Judy Kay Hazen, age 76, of Omaha, NE (formerly of Merna, NE) passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Life without Judy, her smiles and contagious laughter, will not be the same, but the reassurance that she is free of pain, illness, and restraints brings comfort to those missing her dearly. Judy dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family and her legacy lives on in those she leaves behind – four loving and spirited children – Roxanne Stowers and two granddaughters, Danielle and Alexandra (Lincoln, NE); Melody Hazen (Chicago, IL); Justin (Christin) Hazen and granddaughter, Mary Grace (Aurora, CO); and Melissa (Monte) Goodwin (Omaha, NE); a sister, Donna (Darrel) Sybrant (Broken Bow, NE), and many dear family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Herzel and Evelyn (Smith) Thompson, and brother Charlie (Ruth) Thompson.

James L. Petsch, age 64, of McCook, NE passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, in Kansas City, MO.

James was born November 21, 1957, in McCook, NE to parents Gary and Marian R. (Schuler) Petsch. He was raised in the McCook community and graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1976 and then attended the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. On September 21, 2021, James married Blanche N. Brown of Kansas City, MO. James worked for FedEx for 20 years. In his free time, James enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with friends and family, and watching the Huskers compete. He was especially fond of dogs and was an avid Husker fan.

James was proceeded in death by his parents. Those left to celebrate his life include his children, Trevor (Marta) Petsch of El Paso, TX, Brandon Petsch of Kansas City, MO, Brodie (Tamara) Petsch of Lincoln, NE, Tanner Petsch of Omaha, NE, Tearynn Jones of Kansas City, MO, and Ashkyia Jones of Kansas, MO; brother Dan (Kim) Petsch of Grand Island, NE, and sister Diane Petsch of Dallas, TX; 4 grandchildren Emma, Luca, Owen and Henry Petsch; and a host of extended family members and lifelong friends.

Jacob Andrew Moore, 31, died suddenly at his home on June 11, 2022.&nbsp; 
He was born April 27, 1991, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Monty G. and 
Katherine R. (Furrey) Moore.

Jacob was an intellectual and he pursued everything he became 
interested in with great passion until he was ready to dive into 
something new.&nbsp; He was a gamer and connected with others by streaming on
 an online gaming platform.&nbsp; His most recent pursuit was teaching 
himself to code.&nbsp; As a child, he was an exceptional violinist and had 
rekindled this hobby in recent years.

Jacob had a sweet, sensitive soul and was known for his great hugs.&nbsp; 
He had a vibrant smile.&nbsp; Though most who met Jacob would never know, he 
worked hard to overcome a long-time struggle with his mental health.&nbsp; We
 are thankful that before his death he had the opportunity to overcome 
these issues and had established a life that he could manage despite his
 struggles.&nbsp;

He was uncompromising in his ideas and beliefs.&nbsp; Everyone who knew 
him described him as kind and caring.&nbsp; He loved his family and was 
always a mama’s boy.

Jacob is survived by: parents Monty and Katherine Moore, Hutchinson; 
sister, Jessica Burtin (Stephen), Wichita; nephew, Jackson Burtin, 
Wichita; Anna Patterson (Christian), Germany; nieces, Jaqueline, Mary,

He was preceded in death by: sister, Karissa Lynn Shannon; grandfather, Earl Furrey; and uncle, Kenneth Furrey.

Memorial service will be 11 am Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Emanuel 
Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. The family will 
receive friends from 10 to 11 am at the church prior to the service. A 
private burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later 
date.

Jacob Andrew Moore

&nbsp;Margaret M. Wrage, 88, formerly of Keystone, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022, surrounded by family in her home at Lincoln.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Margaret was born to Ross and Mary (Stewart) Tryon on May 1, 1934, in Rushville, NE.&nbsp; The family moved to Morrill, NE where Margaret attended school and graduated from Morrill High School in 1952. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She attended Chadron State College, where she was tapped into the Cardinal Key National Honor Society, one of only three women to be so honored.&nbsp; She was also chosen as the Homecoming Queen her sophomore year. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;While at CSC, she met and married the love of her life, Jerry Wrage.&nbsp; They were married in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Morrill, NE on August 22, 1955. &nbsp;Following their wedding they resided in Chadron, NE where Jerry pursed his degree.&nbsp; Margaret was appointed as the City Clerk-Finance Officer for the city offices of Chadron, NE. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Margaret was a wonderful pianist and accompanied students and choirs.&nbsp; She continued her love of music as a piano teacher in later years.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Margaret and Jerry enjoyed their many bridge companions, dinner and cards with friends also a friendly tournament here and there.&nbsp; Their greatest joy was following sports and musical events while their children attended Ogallala Schools. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Margaret did return to CSC to finish her Business Administration degree and received her diploma in 1985.&nbsp; At that time, she accepted a position with Goodall City Library in Ogallala as librarian. &nbsp;Her love of books and reading helped her to inspire others to read as well.&nbsp; The many new friends she made while there and getting to know so many people of the community was so very rewarding to her.&nbsp; She retired from the Library in December 0f 2001. &nbsp; &nbsp; After retirement, Margaret became very involved with the community of Keystone as a member of the Keystone Women’s Library Association and Keystone Key Club.&nbsp; Red Had Society, Alter Society of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Ogallala Regional Arts Council and served on the Board of The Goodall City Library.&nbsp; This was also a time where she could pursue her love of drawing and painting, she created beautiful work.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Margaret and Jerry enjoyed traveling whether by land, sea or air.&nbsp; They had many adventures visiting family and friends, exploring new places and restaurants, always trying new cuisines and searching for the ultimate chocolate. &nbsp;As proud grandparents, the ventures tended to center around their beloved grandchildren.&nbsp; Jessica and Nick drew them across Nebraska, Iowa and beyond for sporting events, musical performances, academic achievements or even just a summer getaway.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Margaret is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Tim Weismann of Waverly, Laurie Wrage and Ken Priesner, of Ogallala, son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Rebecca Wrage of North Platte:&nbsp; grandchildren, Jessica (Weismann) Carr and Jared Carr, Nick Weismann, of Lincoln; a very special great-grandson Waylen Scott Carr; brother and wife, Stewart and Joan Tryon of Lincoln; other relatives and dear friends. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry, and their son, Scott.

Barbara J. (Barb) Hill, 70, of North Platte, passed away June 9, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.&nbsp; She was born August 21, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Dorothy (Mylon) Seals.

Barb grew up in Des Moines and graduated from North High School in 1969.&nbsp; She met Stephen Hill in 1971 at Clark’s Gas Station in Des Moines, when she tried to pay for her gas with a&nbsp; starter check and Stephen accepted her check even when he knew it was against company policy. They were married August 16, 1974 in National City, California where Stephen was stationed.&nbsp; To this union five children were born; Jodie, Stephanie, Nathan, Bonnie and Katie.&nbsp; The couple moved to North Platte in 1987.&nbsp; Barb worked at the Opportunity Center for several years. She retired in the early 2000’s and spent her spare time with her kids and grandkids.&nbsp; Barb enjoyed sewing and cake decorating.&nbsp; She loved to cook, bake and most of all she was known for her lasagna and Pineapple Upside Down Cake.&nbsp; You could find her at garage sales every Saturday morning.&nbsp; She spent several years on the women’s pool league, even won the MVP two years in a row.&nbsp; Barb had an incredible love for Christ and enjoyed listening to worship music. More than anything she loved spending time with her family and attending her grandkids events.&nbsp; She was very loving, always giving her time to others.&nbsp; Many individuals called her “mom” and would to go her for advice.

In 1956, Janice married Richard Dean Arney and they lived in North Platte. They moved to Colorado in 1969 and lived in Lakewood then Thornton for a number of years. Janice returned to North Platte in 1984 and went to work for Shopko and even worked at a store in Grand Island for a short time. She eventually retired in 2017. Janice loved traveling, especially to the Grand Canyon and Black Hills, and being with her family. She also loved animals and enjoyed going to Cody Park to see the animals there. Janice was a great Mom and loving grandmother who will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and their daughter, Dallas; and her parents, William and Alta Saum. Survivors include her sons, Rick (Paula) Arney of North Platte, Jim Arney of Lincoln and Randy (Mya) Arney of Littleton, CO; daughter, Mona (Scott) Feller of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Rodney Daugherty, Brian Hantla, Tara Tilford, Aimee (Justin) Koranda, Tiffany (Dave) Arnold, Leneise Arney and Keigan Arney; four great-grandchildren; and other family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Verna Jean (Neben) Wood was born November 19, 1935, to Martha (Knispel) and Ernest H Neben on the farm west of Eddyville in Dawson County Nebraska. &nbsp;&nbsp; She was baptized as an infant into the Lutheran Church at Buffalo and later Confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Sumner. &nbsp;&nbsp; The early years of Verna's education were spent at rural schools including the Jewell school west of Sumner where the family moved when she was in the second grade. When she started the fourth grade the family moved to a farm northeast of Overton. She finished her education there Graduating with the class of 1953. &nbsp; Verna attended Kearney State Teachers College the summer of 1953 earning her Teaching Certificate.&nbsp; She then went on to teach the next two years at Mount Olive (Burr Oak) school north of Sumner.&nbsp; While teaching there, she met Dean (Bud) Wood. They married September 25, 1955, in Lexington, NE. To this union one daughter, Mala Kim, was born. &nbsp;&nbsp; They ranched in the Cumro community until their retirement in 1991. &nbsp;During this time, Verna was very active in her church playing first the piano and later the organ as well as being involved in the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society. Also, during this time, she provided the accompaniment for the students at the Cumro and Burr Oak rural schools. &nbsp; Verna enjoyed being a very active member in the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 153 Ansley Nebraska where she held several offices. &nbsp; In the fall of 1987 Verna went back to college, graduating with BS degree in Business Administration in 1992. That same year (1987) Verna became a tax preparer with H&amp;R Block in Kearney. That job turned into a 28-year career that she enjoyed immensely.&nbsp; &nbsp; In the winter of 1991, Bud and Verna sold a portion of their ranch and relocated to Kearney. &nbsp; Marvin Don Large was born September 29, 1934 to Everett and Jesse (Rathbun) Large at Hamlet, NE. He grew up with his parents, two sisters Iris (Fanning) and Peggy (Christner) and a brother Richard Leroy northeast of Wauneta. He attended Estelle grade school and Wauneta High School, graduating in 1952. He got his start in agricultural with 4-H and FFA projects, showing calves at the Hayes County Fair and he participate in many livestock judging contests. During high school he participated in football, basketball, track, glee club, chorus, dramatics, and FFA. He received a Nebraska State Farmer award in FFA in 1952. On June 13, 1954, Marvin married his high school sweetheart Arlene F Kennedy at the Blanche Church. After marriage, they lived in a small mobile home at his parents place for nine months before moving back to her home place in the Blanch Community in 1955 and formed a farming and ranching partnership with Arlene’s family, Robert and Ruby Kennedy. When Robert and Ruby retired and moved to Wauneta, Marvin’s family moved into the main farm house where they had room for their family to grow. They were blessed with 5 children: Joey Don, Kevin Eugene, Dean Timothy, Dale Anthony and Regina Marie. They moved to Imperial in 1996 and remained active in ranching until 2011, when he retired. He learned the game of golf and enjoyed many hours on the Imperial Golf course playing with friends and family. Marvin was one of the early farmers in the area to use eco-fallow farming methods, rotational grazing, Artificial Insemination (AI), high tensile fencing methods, and computerized cow records for his beef herd. Marvin began using AI in 1973 to improve the genetics in his beef cow herd. He developed breeding facilities to help him provide better breeding service to his customers. After building the first double stall and single stall barns on the farm with the help of three sons and hired hands, he decided to outsource the construction of the facilities and concentrate on sales and delivery of the barns, making short vacations out of the trips they made. Sales of the barn units became a steady part of Marvin and Arlene’s life and by 2012 sales of the units were in 33 states, Australia, Canada, and Russia. Marvin was an ABS rep for 25 years in SW NE helping local ranchers improve their herds. During the “Applied Reproductive Strategies in Beef Cattle Symposium (ARSBC) in Manhattan, KS on August 29, 2017 he was recognized being the first “Pioneer Award” recipient for making outstanding contributions towards reproductive tools, technology or service that has broadly benefited the U.S. beef industry. He was active in the Blanche Rural School Board, Wauneta Farmers Coop, Chase County Farm Bureau, 4-H Council, a 4-H Club leader, Extension Council member, school redistricting Board, Member and officer of the Upper Republican NRD, Board member and President of the Federal Land Bank, Imperial Community Foundation, Imperial Lions Club, and he was the Financial Chairman for the Building Committee for the new United Methodist Church that was built in 1991. After moving to Imperial, he helped organize and became a Director of the Great Western Cattle Trail representing Western Nebraska. The purpose of the Board was to mark the cattle trails in Nebraska with concrete markers that livestock herds left from being driven from Texas into Nebraska on their way to Ogallala or on to Montana. A current map of the cattle trails that Marvin put together has recently been put on display at the Champion Museum for the public to see. Marvin passed away early Friday morning June 10, 2022, at the Wauneta Care &amp; Therapy Center in Wauneta, NE from complications created from breaking a hip on May 30, 2022.

&nbsp;ANDREW "ANDY" BROWN, 64, of Grant, passed away at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant. Andy was born September 5, 1957, at Atwood, Kansas, to Anthon and Mary (Eby) Brown. He graduated from Herndon High School with the class of 1976. Andy worked at the hose plant in McCook for a time before relocating to Fort Morgan, Colorado, where he worked at a packing plant. In 1986, Andy moved to Imperial, where he went to work as a farm and ranch hand for Ernest Martin. On September 11, 1994, Andy was united in marriage to Carol Sines, and the couple continued to make their home in Imperial. Most recently, the couple moved to Grant to be closer to family. Andy loved to fish whenever he got the chance. In his younger days, he also enjoyed hunting and playing golf. Once his grandchildren were born, they added a new dimension to his life that he greatly cherished. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, step-son, Alan Wagner, brother Tim Brown, and a nephew, Anthony Brown. Survivors include his wife, Carol Brown of Grant; children, Heath (Renee) Brown of McCook, Teresa (Tim) Ledford of Grant, Sheena (Daniel) Smith of Grant, Crystal Wagner of Imperial, Kayla (Tom) Prosser of Grant; as well as 16 grandchildren. Clyde Frederick Lockwood passed away June 9, 2022. He was born to George and Isabelle (McIntyre) Lockwood on March 4, 1920, in Port Huron, MI. During WWII, he served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942-1946, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Clyde married Kathleen Terrell (deceased Mar 18, 1969) on Nov 6, 1943, in Oberlin, KS. On Oct 5, 1971, he married Mary Ann Jezl Greenwood in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended electronics schools in Louisville, KY, and Oklahoma City, OK, and was an electronics technician employed by the Federal Aviation Administration in North Platte, NE, from which he retired in 1981. For 42 years, he was a member of American Legion Post 163 in North Platte, NE, and was a member and past president of the local chapter of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). In his free time, Clyde enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Over the years, he handcrafted many beautiful items which he gave to his children and grandchildren. Family, above all else, was most important to him, and everything he did was to provide for them. He was also a great friend to those who knew him – he welcomed all. His was a life well-lived in service to his family and others.

Wendie McKinley, 55, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away June 12, 2022 at her home in North Platte.&nbsp; She was born July 15, 1966 to Wilfred and Virginia (Lee) McKinley in Gallup, New Mexico.

Wendie grew up in Gallup and graduated from Tohatchi, New Mexico, High School in 1985.&nbsp; She met Edwin Estrada in New Mexico, and to this union Hannah and Edwin were born.&nbsp; She lived in Utah for a brief time.&nbsp; In 2013, she moved to North Platte.&nbsp;&nbsp; Wendie worked at various hotels as a housekeeper for several years.&nbsp; She prayed every morning, enjoyed cooking and especially making her Navajo tacos, and everyone loved her fried bread.&nbsp; She was very social, loved get-togethers with family and friends.&nbsp; If she could not be with them in person, she was talking to them over the internet.&nbsp; She was very active with in her Coyote Cannon Community and was a part of their monthly meetings.&nbsp; Wendie loved to travel and listen to music, especially Native American Church music and rock and roll.&nbsp; She was very loveable&nbsp; and treated everyone the same.&nbsp; Anyone that met her took a liking to her instantly.&nbsp; As a child, she played football and favored the Dallas Cowboys as an adult.

Wendie is survived by her children, Hannah McKinley and Edwin Estrada Jr.; grandchildren, Ty McKinley, Ethan Thomas, Audrick Thomas and Daniel Thomas; brothers, Ivan McKinley and Varian McKinley; uncles, Lorenzo James and Herman James; aunt, Margie Jarvison; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born September 2, 1975 in Atkinson, NE, daughter of David Keehn and Carol Weber Hellbusch. Jenny was born in Atkinson and later, while living in Hastings, she attended Adams Central High School.&nbsp; She lived in numerous places including Hastings and Missouri before settling in Gothenburg. &nbsp;Jenny worked for the City of Gothenburg.&nbsp; She loved being a mom and grandma and taking care of everyone.&nbsp; She had a real liking to pigs.&nbsp; She also loved her dogs, her job and everything else.

Loren was born in Grand Island, NE to Wilma and Delbert (Short) Sweley on June 21,1946.&nbsp; He lived in Litchfield, NE and North Platte, NE before returning to Grand Island to graduate from Grand Island Senior High in 1964.&nbsp; After high school, he was hired on to the UPRR and was later drafted into the Navy where he served his country and earned a Purple Heart.&nbsp; He married Teresa Brockelsby on Oct 13, 1979 and they raised 5 children together.&nbsp; Loren enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his lawn.&nbsp; He loved making cotton candy for local school fun nights and spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; He enjoyed carpentry, home improvement projects, and was the family Mr. Fix It.&nbsp; After 49 years at UPRR, in his retirement he also enjoyed collecting, restoring, and showing classic cars.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilma and Delbert Sweley, and his beloved sisters Carol Jean Windhorst, and Jenni Jo Sweley. He is survived by his wife Teresa; children, Jennie (Mauricio) Cabrera, Robyn (Robert) Kopcznski, Sam (Sarah) Sweley, CJ (Brandon) Morrison, Abby (Thad) Gallegos and his grandchildren Aaron, Hannah, Kolton, Reagan and Miles.&nbsp; He is also survived by his siblings, Larry (Margaret) Sweley, Cindy (Mitch) Hensley, his brother-in-law Dan Windhorst, many nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of close friends.

Stanley C. Kemper, 90, life-long resident of North Platte, NE passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at North Platte Care Center surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 13, 1931 in North Platte the son of the late Curtis and Thelma (Hite) Kemper. Stanley was a graduate of North Platte High School class of 1949.&nbsp; He married Doris Mae Gamble on February 4, 1951 in North Platte and to that union 2 children were born.&nbsp; He was a live-long farmer in the North Platte area.&nbsp; He enjoyed square dancing with his wife Doris, and visits to Cody Park for ice cream.&nbsp; Stanley also loved watching football, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Stanley C. Kemper (1931-2022)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ketra Vlasin, age 26, of McCook, passed away at the Community Hospital in McCook on June 8, 2022 due to a motor vehicle accident . She was born in North Platte, NE on October 5, 1995, to Mark and Natalie (Elliott) Vlasin. He attended school in Hitchcock County graduating from Trenton High School in 2012.&nbsp; She then attended beauty school North Platte for 2 years. Ketra began working for Renalle’s Classic Hair Design air Designin McCook.&nbsp; She was currently employed at Subway. &nbsp; &nbsp; Ketra was active and enjoyed in art, choir, cheerleading, music and wrestling in high school. She enjoyed time spent at the lake at the family cabin with her kids. She attended youth group at the Church of God in Trenton.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Preceding her in death were grandparents: Robert Elliott; George (Betty) Vlasin; Kathleen (Gordon) Cameron. &nbsp; &nbsp; She is survived by her 3 children: Maizie, Zaiylor, and Zander all at home; mother: Natalie (Rob) Maaske of Culbertson, father: Mark (Kimberley) Vlasin of McCook, sisters: Constance Vlasin of Culbertson; Cali Vlasin of McCook; grandparents: Janice Elliott of Culbertson: Keith (Barbara) Maaske of Arapahoe, NE.

She was born in North Platte, NE on October 5, 1995, to Mark and Natalie (Elliott) Vlasin. He attended school in Hitchcock County graduating from Trenton High School in 2012.&nbsp; She then attended beauty school North Platte for 2 years. Ketra began working for Renalle’s Classic Hair Design air Designin McCook.&nbsp; She was currently employed at Subway. &nbsp; &nbsp; Ketra was active and enjoyed in art, choir, cheerleading, music and wrestling in high school. She enjoyed time spent at the lake at the family cabin with her kids. She attended youth group at the Church of God in Trenton.&nbsp; &nbsp; Preceding her in death were grandparents: Robert Elliott; George (Betty) Vlasin; Kathleen (Gordon) Cameron. &nbsp; &nbsp; She is survived by her 3 children: Maizie, Zaiylor, and Zander all at home; mother: Natalie (Rob) Maaske of Culbertson, father: Mark (Kimberley) Vlasin of McCook, sisters: Constance Vlasin of Culbertson; Cali Vlasin of McCook; grandparents: Janice Elliott of Culbertson: Keith (Barbara) Maaske of Arapahoe, NE.&nbsp; &nbsp; The family chose cremation and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Anthony Albert Casillas, 37, of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away June 1, 2022 at JFK Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born on November 2, 1984 to Salbador Sanchez and Cammi Casillas in North Platte.

Anthony grew up in Lexington, Nebraska and met Claudia Hormachea in high school.&nbsp; They married in 2010 and moved to Florida to explore and find their forever home.&nbsp; Anthony had four children, Kaylee, Angelo, Omar, and Sadie.&nbsp; Anthony was a great provider and loved his children most of all. Anthony worked at various production and manufacturing jobs.&nbsp; He was most proud of his job at Tropical as a Rail Planner at the Port in West Palm Beach, FL working there since 2004.&nbsp; Anthony loved making music, he made beats for different artists.&nbsp; He loved to fish.&nbsp; He will be remembered as an outstanding father and a wonderful friend.&nbsp; Everything was always positive with Anthony and anyone that met him loved him.&nbsp; He had a lot of faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Anthony A. Casillas (1984-2022)

On June 9, 2022, Virginia Bailey peacefully passed away with her family by her side while residing at the North Platte Care Center. She was 89 years old.

Virginia was born to Thomas and Stella Koenig on April 25, 1933. She grew up in Maxwell and graduated from Maxwell High School with the Class of 1951. On November 21, 1951, Virginia was united in marriage to Donald Bailey in North Platte where they made their first of many homes. The couple was blessed with four children and 60 years together when Don passed away in 2011. Virginia enjoyed being at home with her family which gave her the time to cook (especially her chicken and noodles) and bake. She loved sweets and enjoyed going to coffee clubs, traveling with her family, listening to Blue Grass music and attending Blue Grass Festivals when she could. Virginia also looked forward to spending time with her sisters and enjoyed being with her church. Virginia was a wonderful, loving, Christian woman.

She leaves behind her children, Linda (Bobby) Brueggeman of Ogallala, Mary Lou (Kim) Nikkel of Weatherford, OK, Mark (Kandi) Bailey of North Platte, and Brad (Lorinda) Bailey of Hastings; her sister, Donna Kittle of North Platte; sisters-in-law, Lucille Koenig of Gothenburg, Jeanne Max of Brady, Janice Bailey of Phoenix, AZ, and Carolyn Bailey of Manhattan, KS; as well as 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and many other family. Along with her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Stella Koenig; sister, Patty Mentzer; brother, Bob Koenig; brothers-in-law, Delbert Mentzer, Dean Kittle, Earl Max, and Marvin, Russell and Orrin Bailey; sister-in-law, Leona Bailey; and her grandson, Garrett Bailey.

Gary Edward Lehl, 84, of North Platte, passed away June 8, 2022 at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; He was born on April 25, 1938 to Hank and Beaulla (Schrotberger) Lehl in Paxton.

Gary grew up in Grant and graduated from Grant High School.&nbsp; He lived in various places before settling in North Platte.&nbsp; Gary married Sue Carol Hughes on April 15, 1958 in Raton, N.M. and to this union, two sons were born, Doug and Marty.&nbsp; Carol was the center of his life and Gary adored her in every aspect. Gary worked for Ideal Truck Lines as a driver for several years.&nbsp; He retired in 1994.&nbsp; After Carol passed away in 2008, Gary filled his spare time visiting with his many friends and visiting his son in Colorado.&nbsp; He loved going to the Lincoln Highway Diner every morning for coffee and doughnuts.&nbsp; He was known to pick on people and play jokes.&nbsp; Gary had a huge heart and loved animals, especially his dog Coco.&nbsp; Gary was known for feeding all of the stray cats in his neighborhood.&nbsp; He was an avid Husker fan and loved Husker football.

Gary is survived by his son, Marty (Lisa) Lehl of Frederick, CO; sister, Loris Porter of Amarillo, TX; brother, Mike (Adreinne) Lehl of Blair, NE; grandchildren, Chelsey Lehl, Zarek Lehl, Tyler Lehl, Jaiden Rose Lehl; cousins, Ken and MaryAnn Schroeder. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents, Hank and Beaulla; son, Doug Lehl; infant grandson, Zachery; brother, Alvin Lehl; special friend Sharon Thompson.

William “Bill” Stevens, 71, of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, in his home.

William was born on September 9, 1950, in Kearney, Nebraska to Warren and Betty June (Livingston) Stevens. William lived his whole life on the home place north of Overton. He would soon meet Roberta Schutt and was united in marriage on September 12, 1980 and were together for 41 years. They were so in love and happy to have found each other. Three sons were blessed to this union: Robert, William “Billy” Jr, and John. William was a proud rancher. He was particularly proud of his black angus cow herd. William, his wife Roberta, and son Robert spent their days raising cattle, hogs, sheep and goats. For one summer, he found joy in playing on a softball team for Tub’s Pub in Sumner. William was exceptionally proud of his three sons and their accomplishments. Robert went on to become a rancher, Billy became an electrician, and John became a farmer and mechanic. He will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Roberta (Schutt) Stevens of Overton; sons, Robert Stevens of Overton, William “Billy” Stevens Jr of Kearney and John (Candace Neff) Stevens of Bertrand; sisters, Julie Ceballos of Lexington, Rose Stevens of Kearney, Janice (Paul) Mick of Hampton, Sandra (Kenny) Eckhoff of Hooper, and Kathy Phillipson of Franklin; brother, Mark (Joan) Stevens of Axtell; aunts, Francis Stevens of Paxton and Verna Livingston of Kearney; sisters-in-law, Diane Wempen of Overton and Debra Anderson of Kearney; brothers-in-law, Eugene Wempen of Overton, Robert Schutt of Shelton and Kim Schutt of Shelton as well as extended family, Martha and Greg Carr and their children, Matt, Derek, Brooke &amp; Faith all of Minden, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Wayne L Messinger (1928-2022)

Betty Marie (Myer) Smith, 90, died June 1, 2022, at the Mount St. Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born July 12, 1931, in Julesburg, Colorado. The family moved to Imperial, Nebraska in 1940 where she attended Imperial Grade School and graduated from Chase County High School on May 18, 1949. Betty received a teaching certificate from McCook Jr. College 1949-1950. She taught for one year then attended Hastings Beauty Academy and became a licensed cosmetologist in February 1952. Betty married Harry Pershing Smith October 3, 1954, in Denver, Colorado. After her marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper, a secretary at the elementary school, then spent 14 years as a caseworker in the Chase County Public Assistance office prior to moving to Howard, Colorado in 1981. After retirement, Harry and Betty enjoyed some special years in Colorado and then moved back to Champion, NE. They enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. Betty had one child, Tonie Marie, from an earlier marriage and Harry had one son, Dan J. Smith, from a previous marriage. Together, Harry and Betty had daughter Jodie Ann. Betty worked hard all her life. She loved her family and enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, and painting. Betty won the Annie Oakley Pistol Shoot Championship three years in a row beginning at age 25 in Greeley, Colorado. Betty was preceded in death by parents Edward Antone Myer and Hazel Wilma Myer, brother Dean Edward Myer, and husband Harry Pershing Smith. Survivors include stepson Dan J. Smith (Tina), daughter Tonie Marie Best (Steve), daughter Jodie Ann Smith, two granddaughters, three grandsons, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 2:30 pm at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home, 203 E Sackett Ave., Salida, CO. Interment will be held Tuesday morning, June 14, 2022, 10:00 A.M. at the Crete Cemetery, Champion, Nebraska, with the family present.  </figure>Betty Marie (Myer) Smith, 90, died June 1, 2022, at the Mount St. Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born July 12, 1931, in Julesburg, Colorado. The family moved to Imperial, Nebraska in 1940 where she attended Imperial Grade School and graduated from Chase County High School on May 18, 1949. Betty received a teaching certificate from McCook Jr. College 1949-1950. She taught for one year then attended Hastings Beauty Academy and became a licensed cosmetologist in February 1952. Betty married Harry Pershing Smith October 3, 1954, in Denver, Colorado. After her marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper, a secretary at the elementary school, then spent 14 years as a caseworker in the Chase County Public Assistance office prior to moving to Howard, Colorado in 1981. After retirement, Harry and Betty enjoyed some special years in Colorado and then moved back to Champion, NE. They enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. Betty had one child, Tonie Marie, from an earlier marriage and Harry had one son, Dan J. Smith, from a previous marriage. Together, Harry and Betty had daughter Jodie Ann. Betty worked hard all her life. She loved her family and enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, and painting. Betty won the Annie Oakley Pistol Shoot Championship three years in a row beginning at age 25 in Greeley, Colorado. Betty was preceded in death by parents Edward Antone Myer and Hazel Wilma Myer, brother Dean Edward Myer, and husband Harry Pershing Smith. Survivors include stepson Dan J. Smith (Tina), daughter Tonie Marie Best (Steve), daughter Jodie Ann Smith, two granddaughters, three grandsons, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 2:30 pm at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home, 203 E Sackett Ave., Salida, CO. Interment will be held Tuesday morning, June 14, 2022, 10:00 A.M. at the Crete Cemetery, Champion, Nebraska, with the family present. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe sent to Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center, 7550 Assisi Heights, Colorado Springs, CO 80919. Liewer Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.

Robert H. Stern, 88 of Lexington passed away Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Cozad Community Hospital.

Robert was born January 25, 1934 near Sykeston, North Dakota to Henry and Lydia (Heimbuck) Stern. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 12, 1954 and served his country until being honorably discharged on July 30, 1956. Robert spent most of his working years being a Meat Grader in various states before moving to Lexington where he worked at Cornland Dressed Beef, IBP and then Tyson, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed gardening, wood working, attending auctions but most of all traveling with his long-time companion Twila Botsford.

Robert is survived by his companion, Twila Botsford of Lexington, son, Robert Kipp Stern of Sterling, Colorado, two daughters: Raleigh Stern of Billings, Montana and Kerry (John) VanDusen of Fort Collins, Colorado, one sister, Mary Lou Mutchler of Billings, Montana as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren other relatives and many friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and four sisters.

John C. Johnson, 100, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

He was born on April 3, 1922, in Cozad, Nebraska to John and Anna E. (Johnson) Johnson.&nbsp; John attended public schools in Cozad and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1939. John was inducted into the United States Army on November 14, 1942, at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, and served during WWII.&nbsp; He was a Staff Sergeant with the Air Corp and was also an MP with the military police.&nbsp; On November 1, 1945, John was honorably discharged and moved back home. Following the war, he returned to Cozad and was united in marriage to Lola B. Applegate. The couple were married on January 20, 1946, at the Church of Christ in Cozad. They had two children, Monte in 1955, and Rebecca in 1964. When they were first married, they lived on the Johnson place east of Cozad and in 1964, bought the farm northeast of Lexington. John spent most of his life doing what he loved, which was farming. He enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it was focusing his time on projects around the farm or working on his beloved garden and doing yard work. When he wasn’t busy working outside, he enjoyed spending quality time at the Grand Generation Center and was an avid pool player. John attended the Cozad Church of Christ where he was a former member of the church board. Eventually, he became a regular member of the LexChristian Church. John will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family.

He is survived by his son, Monte Johnson of Cozad and his daughter, Rebecca (Jeff) Ouellette of Lexington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lola; two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Cozad with Pastor David Haines and Pastor Dave Leraaen officiating. The Service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial with military honors will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad. Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ in Cozad or LexChristian Church in Lexington.
