Lowell Eldon “Pete” Pyzer, Sr., age 85, passed away on August 22, 2023, at North Platte Care Center in North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;On March 30, 1938, he was born to Lisle and Erma (Childerson) Pyzer in Tryon, Nebraska.

Pete was raised in the Sandhills of Nebraska, attending McPherson County High School and graduating with the class of 1955, the same year he met Lela Meyer. &nbsp;The couple was wed on December 9, 1956, in North Platte, Nebraska and brought four children into the world: Lowell “Butch” Jr., Lauri Ann, Lynn, and Layne.

The couple lived in Gothenburg, Broken Bow, and North Platte before settling in Tryon in 1971 where they raised their family and spent their lives together. &nbsp;In his younger years, Pete worked for Whitewater Ranch before working as a carpenter for Dowhower Construction and later Correll Construction. &nbsp;Eventually, he became the custodian for McPherson County School. &nbsp;Pete liked to tell everyone he was the “head custodian”, the joke being that he was actually the only custodian. &nbsp;Pete and Lela also owned and operated the Longhorn Motel in Tryon for several years and were both members of the McPherson County Fire and Rescue for over 30 years, Pete holding the “President” title on the rural fire board.

Pete was a social man and no one disliked him. &nbsp;His morals were strong and filled with generosity. &nbsp;Pete, along with his wife, delivered meals to the elderly in the community and even transported several to North Platte for appointments. &nbsp;He was an outstanding carpenter and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time, as well as fishing (even though he wasn’t very good at it). &nbsp;His grandkids learned all the words they shouldn’t say from watching their grandpa watch Husker games, something he enjoyed thoroughly. &nbsp;Pete was strong in his Faith and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tryon where he also helped maintain the lawn and do maintenance work.

Donald Nicholson, 98, departed this life August 21, 2023 at Azria Health in Sutherland, Nebraska. Don was born February 8, 1925 to Amelia (Alma) and Arthur Nicholson, the oldest of 5 children.

Don only had an 8th grade education and served in World War II as a USMC military cook. He married Pauline French on June 26, 1948. To this union 3 boys were born: Danny Leroy, Rocky Lee and Monte Dale. Don was a jack of all trades; from carpenter, plumber, barber and baker. He canned tomatoes, made bread pudding and a mean custard pie! His music and old movies were very important to him. Earlier in Don’s life he had a band with his sons and later played for nursing homes. Some of the instruments he played were: guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and keyboard. Don also worked as a linotype operator at the Telegraph for several years. He started a grocery store business for his brother.&nbsp; Don and Pauline operated a Snow-White in Arnold and later a café in Tryon. Then he was Sheriff for McPherson County for 20 years and pumped septic tanks after retiring.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, wife and a son.

Those left to cherish his memory are his 2 sons, Danny and Rocky; daughters-in-law; and a crew of grandkids and great-grandkids.

Donald Nicholson (1925-2023)

Alfred "Al" Lee Carr, 83, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.

He was born on November 25, 1939, in Platteville, Colorado to Robert and Elizabeth (Stieb) Carr.&nbsp;In his youth, Al attended Hastings Community College in the 1960s where he pursued his passion for Electronics. Al was united in marriage to Carol Rakestraw. Three children were blessed to this union: Tim, Chris and Vickie. The marriage would later end in divorce. In 1966, he began working at Sperry New Holland in Grand Island and later transferred to the Lexington plant until its closure in 1985. Undeterred by change, he relocated to Arizona before settling in Grand Junction. Eventually, he returned to his community in Overton where he joined Orthman's and dedicated himself to maintenance until his retirement due to health issues. On November 29, 1990, Al was united in marriage to Sharon Brand. He welcomed two stepchildren into his life, Steven and Carrie.

One of Al's passions was working on cars and restoring old beauties to their former glory with his wife, Sharon. Exhibiting their labor of love at car shows brought immense satisfaction to them. However, among all the hobbies they enjoyed together, no place filled Al's heart with more happiness than being outside and meticulously mowing the lawn. He constantly extended a helping hand to his neighbors by mowing their yards—an act of kindness that demonstrated just how selfless and caring he truly was.&nbsp;Al's interests were diverse and reflected his vibrant spirit. He took great pleasure in organizing BBQs and attending parades that showcased the lively spirit of the community around him. In the early years of his marriage, Al and Sharon would often take to the dance floor, creating memories filled with laughter and joy. A man of many accomplishments, Al drove Micro Midget race cars—an endeavor that allowed him to embrace his passion for speed and thrilling competition. Alfred Lee Carr (1939-2023)

Sharon Marie (Owings) Booth, 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at her home in Lexington, Nebraska.

Sharon was born on September 27, 1938 in Gothenburg, Nebraska along with her twin sister, Sherrill to Faye (Slack) and Leslie Owings.

Sharon attended Gothenburg High School. She worked various jobs prior to meeting Roger Booth. She was united in marriage to Roger Lee Booth on December 29th, 1957. Four children were blessed to this marriage: Terri, Deb, DeeAnn &amp; Todd. Sharon and Roger lived in Brady, Nebraska for a short time, then in Broken Bow, before settling in Lexington. They raised their children in Lexington and lived on an acreage, near Lexington.

Sharon always worked very hard all her life, working and taking care of her children, she was very involved in her kids’ activities growing up, as well as her grandkids, and great grandchildren.

Sharon had many jobs throughout her life, including BD in Broken Bow, Sperry New Holland in Lexington and Tri County Hospital in material management, which she enjoyed until her retirement in 2009. In 2013, they moved into town where they enjoyed visiting with their neighbors and being closer to the kids/grandkids activities. Sharon enjoyed cooking, ceramics, flower arranging, and many arts and crafts, she did with her children and grandchildren.

Sharon enjoyed her coffee friends, the ladies met almost everyday (at several of the coffee/restaurants in Lexington.) Sharon was very involved with her church, not missing many Sundays. She was a deacon at the church, on the church committee, involved in the Chrisitan Women’s Connection and with the Moving on Bunch.

She lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed being close to her family and friends. She was our rock and was always there to listen to all of us. We will miss her dearly. She was the Best Mom ever!

She was a deacon at the church, on the church committee, involved in the Chrisitan Women’s Connection and with the Moving on Bunch.She lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed being close to her family and friends. Clara Bell Lantz, 95, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Lexington Regional Health Center.

She was born on March 28, 1928, in Cozad, Nebraska to Lynn and Francis (Newhouse) Hemphill. She attended public school in Cozad.&nbsp;

Clara was united in marriage to Victor Houser in 1944 and two children were blessed to this union: Myrna and Roger. The family made their home in Cozad, where Clara focused her efforts on caring for the home and raising her children. She also sold Avon, which she would do for most of her life. She was known as an Avon Lifer! Their marriage would later end in divorce.

On December 26, 1988, Clara was united in marriage to Harold Lantz. They would make their home in Lexington where she would reside until her passing.&nbsp;

Clara loved to play Bingo and gamble. Her favorite color was purple, and she also loved butterflies. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling. Clara was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and past commander.

Survivors include her children, Myrna Nichelson of Chula Vista, California and Roger Houser of Elwood; sister, Kay Naylor of Cozad; six grandchildren, Kim (Scott) Baranek, Scott Slater, Rick (Laurie) Slater, Montie Slater, Mistie Slater and Jami (Cody) Havener; six great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Victor; husband, Harold; son-in-law, Jerry Nichelson; siblings, Wayne Hemphill, Dale Hemphill, Ann Tucker, Pauline Coover, and Doyle Hemphill.

Viola F. Fraizer, age 100, of Big Springs, Nebraska died Friday, August 18, 2023, at Sedgewick County Memorial Nursing Home in Julesburg, Colorado.

Viola was born November 23, 1922, in Morrow County, OH to John and Anna (Davis) Helman.&nbsp; She attended schools in Waldo and Ashley, Ohio.&nbsp; Viola met Floyd Fraizer and they were married on October 18, 1938, at her grandmother’s house in Waldo, OH. Viola and Floyd made their home in Lewisburg, OH where Viola was a homemaker.&nbsp; In 1944, they moved to Ashley, OH while Floyd was in the Service.&nbsp; In 1946, the family moved to Marengo, OH where Floyd and Viola rented a farm.&nbsp; In 1948, they moved to Mount Gilead, OH.&nbsp; In 1959, Viola worked for Power Equipment Co. in Galion.&nbsp; She retired in 1987.&nbsp; In 1992, Viola and Floyd moved to Big Springs where Viola worked for Purty Punkins in Brule, NE for several seasons.&nbsp; In 2019, Viola moved to Northglenn, CO to be close to her daughter.&nbsp; In May of 2023, she moved to Sedgwick County Nursing Home in Julesburg.

Viola was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Cardington, OH, a member of the Harmony Baptist Church in OH and a 4H leader and a member of the Wayside Garden Club, and a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Ovid, Co.

Survivors are a son Harold (Sandy) Fraizer of Big Springs, NE.&nbsp; A daughter Julia Gessner of Northglenn, CO.&nbsp; One Brother Donald (Betty) Helman of Mount Gilead, OH.

Four Grandchildren, Eighteen Great Grandchildren, and Seven Great- Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Husband Floyd in 2002; Daughter Rosalyn Detwiler, Grandson Harold Gessner, son-in-law Bernie Gessner; and three brothers and four sisters. &nbsp;

Visitation will be Friday, August 25, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel.

Viola Florence Fraizer (1922-2023)

Richard Burnett Fox was born on April 10, 1934 to Lawrence and Mildred (Loy) Fox at Ansley, Nebraska.&nbsp; His father, Lawrence, died in a tree cutting accident when he was 8 months old.&nbsp; Times were hard, but Richard persevered, and all is grateful for those who were there for him, especially his uncles, Clyde Loy and Ralph Fox.&nbsp; When asked if he ever went hungry, Dad said 'oh yes.'&nbsp; He tells the story of skipping the last 2 weeks of school his senior year to work, so he could buy shoes to wear to his graduation.

After graduation, Richard joined the Air Force and served in Japan during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic.&nbsp; After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Custer County, Nebraska to look for work and jobs were scarce.&nbsp; He recalls there were only two jobs listed in the Omaha World Herald classified ads.&nbsp; He eventually found work at Boeing in Seattle, Washington, where he was an airplane mechanic and worked on the first 707!&nbsp; Later he was an inspector and learned to fly.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Richard dated Ann Carstensen and when she pursued him to Seattle, he figured he better get married.&nbsp; (This is Dad's account and cannot be verified.)&nbsp; They were married in Seattle, Washington on June 23, 1957 and were married for 59 years when his wife passed.&nbsp; They were blessed with 6 children born over a span of 18 years.

In 1962, Rich and Ann purchased the Dairy Queen and Ann returned to Broken Bow to run the restaurant.&nbsp; Rich followed later that year.&nbsp; In 1965, the Dairy Queen was sold, and they bought a farm northwest of Berwyn, NE.&nbsp; Rich loved the farm where he raised cattle, quarter horses, and crops.&nbsp; Sale barns were a big part of his life.&nbsp; Buyer #11 was a fixture at the Broken Bow Sale Barn for over 50 years.&nbsp; Rich had an uncanny ability to accurately calculate a sale price (or anything really) in his head faster than anyone could run a calculator.

In April of 1974, a tornado hit the farm and destroyed the home.&nbsp; Rich leased a place a few miles away and continued to farm and ranch and train horses.&nbsp; Tragedy hit in 1976 when their oldest son, Brian, died from injuries sustained in a horse accident.

In 1978, Ann &amp; Rich bought the place west Broken Bow, coninuing to farm and ranch until the last year.&nbsp; He was happiest on the farm and drove himself to the farm for the last time just a few days before he passed.

At supper time, Rich would quiz the children over the state capitals and presidents.&nbsp; He loved to tell jokes and riddles and sing the occasional folk song.&nbsp; A lively game of pitch, pinochle, and other card games with family and friends was a daily occurrence where all learned "one peek is worth two finesses" and Rich usually won!&nbsp; Grandkids were his pride and joy, and he loved going to their activities.&nbsp; He loved Sunday dinners with whoever was around, sitting on the deck watching the grandkids play games, offering them a dollar to run around the house 20 times.

Richard is survived by five children, nineteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.&nbsp; His children:&nbsp; Terrill Spencer (Gary Koyen) of Louisville, CO, Penny (Gordon) Goodman of Broken Bow, NE, Stuart (Cindy) Fox of Broken Bow, NE, Barry (Jenny) Fox of Broken Bow, NE, and Jaimee (Joel) Bailey of Ansley, NE; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Tashina (James) Golden and children Alexi, Quinn, Beau, Samantha, and Gabe; Nikkia Spencer (fiancé Jason Matulka) and children Brecken and Easton; Trey Spencer, Mitch Spencer, Jacy (Dillon) Thoman; Spencer (Chesany) Goodman and daughter Palmer; Cassidy (Justin) Miller and children Beckett, Madalynn, and Tripp; Kate Fox (fiancé Preston Decker, Emily (Jared) Kahnk, and Brian Fox;&nbsp; Carsten, Austin and Hadyn Fox; and Alyssa, Tycen, Luke, Kiera, Kyler and Hayes Bailey.&nbsp; Rich is also survived by his sisters Vivian Burns, Linda Hinkle, and Joanne (Gale) Millsap; along with many nieces and nephews.

David Robert “Bob” Bobinmyer was born on the Bobinmyer Ranch (Homesteaded 1886) South of Culbertson, NE on October 16, 1925 to John E. and Anna B. (Drain) Bobinmyer.&nbsp; He was the 3rd child of six children.&nbsp; He attended country school through the 7th grade.&nbsp; He attended 8th grade through High School at Herndon, KS graduating in 1943.&nbsp; In High School he went out for football and boxed at the McCook Elks Boxing Club and won the 118 lb. class to go on to the Golden Gloves in Omaha in 1942.&nbsp; He continued to box in the Navy.

Bob was drafted in the Navy on January 6, 1945.&nbsp; He was assigned to the LST 596 Asian/Pacific as a motor Machinist 3rd Class.&nbsp; He was discharged in July of 1946.

Bob returned to the family farm in 1946.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Vera Victoria Case on August 10, 1947 at the home of her parents in rural Culbertson, NE.&nbsp; To this union, three children were born: James Edward “Jim”, David Robert J. and Vicki Ann.&nbsp; They made their home on the Bobinmyer Ranch until 1971 moving into McCook.&nbsp;

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially woodworking and gardening.&nbsp; He made an array of different things, and he liked working in his trees and garden.&nbsp; Bob and Vera enjoyed going to dances, watching their grandchildren and attending their many activities.&nbsp;

Bob had been a member of: Election board, school board district 18, original member of the Culbertson Rural Fire Department, UCC church in Herdon, McCook COOP Equity board, Lifetime member of the VFW, Elks 50 years and Eagles 40 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, of 73 years, sons Jim and Dave; his parents John and Anna; brothers June and Doug; sisters Doris Wacker and Norma Strunk.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Vicki Berkley and husband James of Stockton, KS; daughter-in-law Hazel Bobinmyer; Grandchildren, Jonathan Berkley and wife, Nikki of Stockton, KS, Brian Berkley and wife Quincy, of Stockton, KS and Renee Berkley Earl and husband Capt. David Robert "Bob" Bobinmyer (1925-2023)

Charles R. Callihan (Bob) was taken to be with our Lord Jesus on Friday afternoon, August 18, 2023 with his family by his side in North Platte, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. MST on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Oshkosh, Nebraska with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.&nbsp; Military Honors will be rendered at the funeral home.&nbsp; Burial will be held in Hunter, Kansas at a later date.

Memorials in Bob’s name can be made to Adopt-A-Dog in Chappell, Nebraska, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, or to the family for later designation.

Bob was born on November 21, 1937, to Delmas and Georgie (Wheeler) Callihan in Greenup, Kentucky. Bob was the fifth of eight children: Erma, Pauline, Alfreda, Carolyn, Charles, Jenny, James, and Joe.&nbsp;

Bob lived in Ohio most of his youth and enjoyed taking care of his younger siblings and teaching them about everyday life.

When he became a teenager, he joined the Navy to travel the world.&nbsp; He was stationed in Kansas before being transferred to Hawaii where he created flight plans.&nbsp; While in Kanas, he met and married Vera Mae Diers.&nbsp; To this union four children were born: Rebecca Schultz (Les Hazen), Terry Duffield (Tom), Robert Callihan (Denise) and Deb Carlson (late Troy).&nbsp;

During this time Bob owned and operated a milk route and then drove for Rainbow Bread, Bob would bring home a pickup full of bread loaves to feed the chickens and pigs, but the kids would end up having bread wars, hitting each other with the loaves until they would break open and scatter bread all over the driveway.

Bob moved his family to Wellfleet, Nebraska where the kids enjoyed running wild, swimming in the lake and riding horses through the hills.&nbsp; He then drove for Consolidated Freightways, which took him to Chappell, Nebraska where he met Pricilla Kalb whom he was married to for 20 years.&nbsp;

During his time in Chappell, he ran a service station and started a stockcar racetrack where he shined as the announcer.

Bob then moved to Lake McConaughy to pursue a job in construction where he met and married Kathryn Holz.&nbsp; He did many construction jobs at Lake Mac, Ogallala, Chappell, Oshkosh, and the surrounding area.

Bob loved his family immensely and enjoyed telling stories and playing with his grandkids, Will Schultz, Nick Schultz, Lacy Reimer, Sonja Clyncke, TJ Wilkinson, Megan Dehning, Jeremy Callihan, and great grandkids, Paige, Jackson, Harleigh, Sloane, Zach, Ralee, Taylor, Jasmine, Kaylee, Kenley, Ryker, Harper, Brecken.

Bob is preceded in death by his siblings, Erma Wynkoop, Pauline Callihan, Alfreda Ratcliff, Carolyn Johnson, Jenny Brown, Joe Callihan, wife, Vera Callihan, daughter, Rebecca Callihan, grandson, Lucas Schultz and son in law, Troy Carlson.

Charles Robert "Bob" Callihan  (1937-2023)

Donald Russell Jensen, age 76, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on August 18, 2023 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.&nbsp; He was born on January 19, 1947 to Nels and Esther (Philpot) Jensen in Arnold, Nebraska.

Donald was united in marriage to Betty Klauz in 1965.&nbsp; To this union, a son, Daniel Jensen, was born.&nbsp; Don served in the U.S. Army from March 16, 1956 to February 27, 1968.&nbsp; After he returned from the service, he moved to Lexington, Nebraska where he worked at New Holland.&nbsp; Later he moved to Norht Platte, Nebraska where he was employed by Cement Products, Paulson, and then he worked for the City of North Platte where he retired from.

Survivors include his son, Daniel Jensen of Ralston, NE; granddaughter, Sarah Jensen of Ralston, NE; sister, Dorene Smith of North Platte, NE; along with many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Nels and Esther; a sister, Leretta Smith; and a brother, Robert Jensen.

A memorial has been established in his memory. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.&nbsp; Pastor Ryan Alexander will be officiating.&nbsp;

Robert Lee Smith was born on August 11, 1943 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Hugh and Hazel Anderson Smith.&nbsp; Robert stepped out of time into eternity at the age of 79 on July 31, 2023 in North Platte, Nebraska.

Robert grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska and attended school there with 3 brothers and 1 sister.&nbsp; Their home was quite active.&nbsp; Robert's brother, Jim, painted with his dad, Hugh, and Robert joined them together in the painting business.&nbsp; Robert enjoyed fishing with his brothers and being in the outdoors.&nbsp; Robert traveled throughout Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas.&nbsp; Robert was a great conversationalist and was quick to share his experiences in life.&nbsp; Robert later spent much of his life as a butcher for the following grocers:&nbsp; Safe-Way, IGA, Food-Lion, and several others.&nbsp; He returned to painting many&nbsp; years later.&nbsp; He resided in North Platte until his death.

Robert was the last of the 3 brothers and 1 sister, all who preceded him in death:&nbsp; Don Smith, Ralph Smith, Jim Smith and his sister, Shirley Reese/Patterson.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his son, Shawn Smith of Arizona and his daughter, Leann Parish of Winter Haven, Florida.

Robert is survived by his son, Troy Smith of Callaway, Nebraska; a daughter, Crystal Murn of Merna, Nebraska.&nbsp; 

Robert had several nieces and nephews:&nbsp; Gary Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska, Barbara Smith of North Platte, Nebraska, Richard Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, Ronnie Smith (who preceded his uncle in death), Dean Patterson of Wichita, Kansas, Sandi Menzies of Wichita, Kansas, Ruth Dombroski of Louisville, Colorado, Debra Milligan of Keenseburg, Colorado, Ryan Smith of Stockton, Missouri, Steven Smith of Westminster, Colorado, Kelly Smith of Ormond Beach, Florida, Calvin Smith of Cleburne, Texas, and Kevin Smith of Wylie, Texas.

Robert will be laid to rest near his mother, Hazel Anderson Smith, who is interred in the Ogallala Memorial Cemetery in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Robert Lee Smith  (1943-2023)

Steve Albert Mattox of North Platte, NE passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte on August 21, 2023 at the age of 86.

Steve was born to Viola and Mount Mattox, Sr. on April 6, 1937 at Broken Bow, Nebraska, where he grew up.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, Steve enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1955-1957.

Following his discharge, he returned home and ranched.&nbsp; On September 20, 1958, Steve married Stella Niles at the Berean Church in Broken Bow.&nbsp; They started a family and lived in various towns around Nebraska before divorcing after 50 years of marriage.

In 1969, Steve attended Central Nebraska Technical School in Hastings, Nebraska, then Central Law Enforcement in Grand Island, Nebraska.&nbsp; He became a Deputy Sheriff and worked in Arnold, Walbach and Litchfield.&nbsp; After serving in law enforcement for many years, Steve was a maintainer operator for Custer County in Nebraska until 1980 when he moved to North Platte and went to work for Buffalo Bill's Scouts Rest Ranch, from which he retired.

Steve served our country with pride and was a man of faith who attended the Broken Bow Berean Church, Cowboy Church, and Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Jr. "Sonny", Cecil, Jack and Lyle Mattox; sisters Ruby Plambeck and Mable Ellingson; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include Steve's children, Dennis Mattox, Geno (Dianna) Mattox and Gloria Mattox Tyan of North Platte, NE, Viola (Gene Jr.) Petersen of Hershey, NE, Tammy Montag of Kearney, NE, Bonny Mattox and Candy (Luke) Hanson of Ansley, NE, and Sue McFee of Council Bluffs, IA, and their mother, Stella Mattox of North Platte, NE; his sisters Hazel Close of Boise, ID and Judy (Ray) Lunkwitz of North Platte, NE; and sister-in-law Madeline Mattox of Tennessee; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren; and other family.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE with Ned Cooper officiating.&nbsp; The guest book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com, or prior to the services at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, NE, which is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

 </figure>Steve Albert Mattox of North Platte, NE passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte on August 21, 2023 at the age of 86.Steve was born to Viola and Mount Mattox, Sr. on April 6, 1937 at Broken Bow, Nebraska, where he grew up.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, Steve enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1955-1957.Following his discharge, he returned home and ranched.&nbsp; On September 20, 1958, Steve married Stella Niles at the Berean Church in Broken Bow.&nbsp; They started a family and lived in various towns around Nebraska before divorcing after 50 years of marriage.In 1969, Steve attended Central Nebraska Technical School in Hastings, Nebraska, then Central Law Enforcement in Grand Island, Nebraska.&nbsp; He became a Deputy Sheriff and worked in Arnold, Walbach and Litchfield.&nbsp; After serving in law enforcement for many years, Steve was a maintainer operator for Custer County in Nebraska until 1980 when he moved to North Platte and went to work for Buffalo Bill's Scouts Rest Ranch, from which he retired.Steve served our country with pride and was a man of faith who attended the Broken Bow Berean Church, Cowboy Church, and Church of Christ.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Jr. "Sonny", Cecil, Jack and Lyle Mattox; sisters Ruby Plambeck and Mable Ellingson; and two grandchildren.Survivors include Steve's children, Dennis Mattox, Geno (Dianna) Mattox and Gloria Mattox Tyan of North Platte, NE, Viola (Gene Jr.) Petersen of Hershey, NE, Tammy Montag of Kearney, NE, Bonny Mattox and Candy (Luke) Hanson of Ansley, NE, and Sue McFee of Council Bluffs, IA, and their mother, Stella Mattox of North Platte, NE; his sisters Hazel Close of Boise, ID and Judy (Ray) Lunkwitz of North Platte, NE; and sister-in-law Madeline Mattox of Tennessee; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren; and other family.Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE with Ned Cooper officiating.&nbsp; The guest book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com, or prior to the services at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, NE, which is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Carol Louise Mason, 77, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away August 8, 2023, at Tabitha’s Residential Community House after a battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Chappell, Nebraska, to Alvin and Velma (Johnson) Carlson on August 23, 1945. She grew up in Chappell with her sister, Donna (Carlson) Pebley. She attended Chappell Public Schools and graduated from Chappell High School (class of 1963). After a short stint at Midland Lutheran College, Carol went on to school at Kearney State College (class of 1967), graduating with a degree in Elementary Education.

Carol led a very full life. She loved spending time with her family and at her church. She enjoyed books, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, happy movies, pedicures, and Scooter’s cold brew. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved everything about it, especially wreaths, Starbuck’s peppermint mochas, Christmas music, and raucous family games of Apples to Apples. Carol was passionate about anything her grandsons did and made sure to be there for everything she could. From music recitals, band concerts, and talent shows to football, basketball, soccer, and baseball games, if her grandsons were doing it, she was there cheering them on.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her sister.

She is survived by her loving children, Michelle (Robert) Michl of Lincoln, NE, and Justin (Stacy) Mason of North Platte, NE; grandchildren: Cole (Bailey) Mason; Brady Mason, and Max Reinert; great grandchildren: Jed and Lilah Mason.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service and a celebration of life, which will be held at First Lutheran Church on Tuesday, September 12th at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations can be made to Family Service Lincoln, Alzheimer’s Association, or First Lutheran Church.

Ray Satchell, age 100, of rural Bridgeport went to be with his heavenly father July 27, 2023. Ray was born December 16, 1922 to Harlan and Minnie Satchell at home, delivered by his father, at the homestead where he resided the rest of his life.

Ray raised Hereford cattle, wheat and feed. He began his farm life with a team of horses and what we consider antique tools to raise corn on flat spots through out the hills. It would take him a day of hand picking sixteen acres to fill the wagon with the harvested corn. He could hitch up his team in the dark.

His dad went to the draft board because both his brothers were serving in WWII. He, being the youngest was then delegated to stay home to raise cattle and farm.

He attended country school, then Bridgeport High School graduating in 1940. He served on the fair board, was a longtime Eagles member, enjoyed square dancing, bowling, trips to Alaska, occasional gambling adventures and was a longtime member of the Presbyterian church. He was blessed with good health; running chain saws, fixing fence and climbing windmills into his 90’s.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Lynda (Larry) Sydow, Dotty (John) Erickson, and Diane Contratto; and son Michael (Luann) Satchell; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and many more great-great-grandchildren, many of them carrying on the name Ray; nieces, nephews and special family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, son Duane, daughter Beth, grandson John T, brothers Harry and Chet, and sister Violet.

In keeping with our parents’ wishes, we will have a celebration of life for Ray and Geri together on September 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall at the Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, Nebraska. Private graveside services will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dalton Volunteer Fire and Rescue, First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, or donors’ choice.

Elsie Marie (Knispel) Struempler of Broken Bow, formerly of Oconto, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Brookestone View in Broken Bow at the age of 98. She was born August 23, 1924 to William and Clara (Knoop) Knispel in a sod house on a farm west of Eddyville, Nebraska. Elsie married Herbert Struempler on January 20, 1948 at the Christ Lutheran Church southwest of Oconto.&nbsp;

Together the couple farmed and ranched west of Oconto. They traveled on many bus trips in their retirement. Elsie was active in the Redfern Social Club, and participated in a women’s bowling league for years. She was always up for a card game. Elsie had many talents that included crafting, sewing and cake decorating. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. She had great fun “spooking” her great grandkids and other unsuspecting victims. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herb; siblings, Alfred and Arlene; son in law, Lloyd Eggleston.

Survivors include her children, Maynard (Judy) Struempler of Oconto, Sandra Eggleston of Broken Bow, and Diane (Harold) Kettelhake of Elk Creek; brother, LaVerne “Bud” Knispel; grandchildren, Cody (Tonia) Eggleston, Justin (Karisa) Eggleston, Marty (Lisa) Eggleston, Marla (Curtis) Stallbaumer, Rachel (Travis) Kleensang, Layne (Rebecca) Kettelhake; great grandchildren, Shelby (Bradley) McArthur, Bryce (Shealyn) Eggleston, Isaac (Gracie) Stallbaumer, Owen, Abby and Emma Stallbaumer, Allison (Noah) Eivins, Lauren and Connor Kleensang, Korbynn and Kacynn Kettelhake; great great grandchildren, Ross and Kell McArthur; sisters in law, Elsie Cyriacks, Bonnie Struempler and Adele Chandler; brother in law, Ronald Struempler; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The day will come when my body will lie upon a white sheet neatly tucked under four corners of a mattress located in a hospital busily occupied with the living and the dying.

At a certain moment a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped.

When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. &nbsp;And don't call this my deathbed. &nbsp;Let it be called the Bed of Life, and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.

Give my sight to a man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman. &nbsp;Give my heart to a person whose own heart has pain.

Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play. &nbsp;Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week.

Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body, and find a way to make a crippled child walk. &nbsp;Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that someday a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her windows.

Cremate me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow. &nbsp;If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses and all my prejudice against my fellow man. &nbsp;Give my sins to the devil. &nbsp;Give my soul to God. &nbsp;

Robert L. “Bob” Hoing, 63, of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Bob was born on May 2, 1960 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Earl Leroy and Janice Marie (Koester) Hoing. Bob attended public schools in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Northwest with the class of 1979. He then went on to further his education at ITC Tech where he earned his certification as a Mechanic. Bob moved to Overton, Nebraska in 2005.

Bob met the love of his life three years ago, Dianne Redwing and was united in marriage on July 28, 2023. They made their home in Overton.

Bob loved racing and being part of the IMCA family. He drove the O9H Stock Car and made many lifelong friends throughout the years in the sport. Bob and Dianne enjoyed traveling and going on long road trips. Attending AA meetings and being a sponsor was also very important to Bob. He was always willing to be a helping hand and had a heart of gold.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne of Overton; his mother, Janice Hoing of Surprise, Arizona; his children, Tiffany (Brad) Brundage of Avondale, Arizona, Crystal (Adam) Troiano of Avondale, Arizona, Amanda (Anthony) Hoing of Gilbert, Arizona and Daniel Hoing of Gilbert, Arizona; &nbsp;two brothers, Greg (Debra) Hoing of Sun City West, Arizona and Steve (Teresa “Teri”) Hoing of Surprise, Arizona; seven grandchildren; his uncle, Bruce Koester; stepchildren, Staci Redwing of David City, Corie (Barb) Redwing of Fremont, Dale (Danae) Mizner II of Geneva, Trinity Mizner of Wahoo, Colton (Brianna Mewes) Mizner of Geneva and Shana (Jim Kubik) Mizner of Prague; his fur buddy, Trixie; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bentley Charles Hinrichs, age 5, gained his angel wings surrounded with love at his home on August 15th, 2023.

He was born on April 5th, 2018, in North Platte, Nebraska to Christopher and Tonya Hinrichs to complete the family of four joining his big sister, Briawna.

He blessed his family with an amazing healthcare team and many adventures, including a cross country trip to California for his first ever intensive therapy session in Los Angeles. Bentley became famous through his intensive therapy sessions at Orange County in Iowa and at Munroe-Meyer Institute in Omaha.He taught everyone he met a whole new understanding of patience and resilience. His progress in life was always steady and slow. His big sister, Briawna, was the biggest and loudest cheerleader when he accomplished a new skill. No matter how hard the challenge, Bentley would always fight and overcome his disabilities to obtain the goal.Bentley loved everything and anything about the outdoors, especially swimming!He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary Hinrichs and great-grandparents, Maxine and Charles Kelley.Survivors include his parents, Chris and Tonya Hinrichs; the BEST big sister EVER, Briawna; his grandparents, Doug and Theresa Kelley of North Platte, NE, Maggie House of Lewellen, NE; his great-grandmothers, Darlene Haines of North Platte, NE and LeeAnn Hinrichs of Brule, NE; his aunts and uncles, Jarret (Shanna) Hinrichs of Rowlett, TX, Tamara (Nolan) Clouse and Timothy (Mary Beth) Kelley, all of North Platte, NE, his North Platte cousins, Keeghan, Braeden, Gatlyn and Huxlee; and numerous healthcare providers that became family during Bentley’s PICU roller coaster rides and his therapy sessions!Visitation will be Friday, August 18th from noon to 7 pm with family present from 5 to 7 pm at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, NE.To honor Bentley, a celebration of life with food, fun and refreshments will be on Friday, August 25th from 4 to 7 pm at Occasions with all family and friends welcome. Please feel free to wear casual clothes to celebrate Bentley’s life because he would want everyone ready to have fun and enjoy the party.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at First National Bank to donate, in his honor, to two of Bentley’s favorite therapy organizations, Kearney Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program and Munroe-Meyer Institute, to assist other families with providing the much-needed therapy for their loved ones.Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home of North Platte, NE is assisting the family with arrangements.
