NORTH PLATTE - The Salvation Army is gearing up for the holiday season and the Red Kettle Campaign started this past Monday. The Salvation Army is also preparing food box donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a toy drive and so much more.&nbsp;

The Red Kettle campaign is the Salvations Army biggest fundraiser event. The iconic red kettles are seen all around the United States. The Red Kettles started in North Platte this past Monday. Volunteers stand out ringing the bells in front of the kettles. North Platte will be ringing at 8 locations this holiday season. Post Sports Director Paxton Gordon chatted with former Husker volleyball player, current Omaha Supernovas Team Ambassador/Assistant Director of Fan Engagement Kenzie Maloney about the Supernovas and her role with the organization.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Omaha Supernovas are the first ever professional volleyball team in the state of Nebraska and gearing up for their first season in a brand-new professional volleyball league, the Pro Volleyball Federation. The league consists of 8 teams and the league plays a 24-game regular season. Omaha will host 12 matches at the CHI Health Center. The league's first ever match will take place at CHI Health Center on January 24th, 2024, between the Supernovas and the Atlanta Vibe at 7pm.&nbsp;

Maloney is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and spent 4 years when the Nebraska Volleyball team. During her time in Nebraska, she was a two-time national champion with the Huskers. Maloney was a four-year standout at both Libro and Defensive Specialist. She was an AVCA All-America Third Team member after her senior season in 2018.&nbsp;

For the Supernovas, Maloney is the Assistant Director of Fan Engagement for the Supernovas but also one of three Team Ambassadors alongside former Husker, Kenzie Knuckles and former Creighton Bluejay,&nbsp; Jaela Zimmerman. As a Team Ambassador, Maloney puts it&nbsp;hand in hand with her current position of Assistant Director of Fan Engagement. "It's viewed as a fan engagement position, so we (team ambassadors) do a good job of spreading the word of the Pro Volleyball Federation and letting people know what it is, where they can find tickets, where they can get involved," said Kenzie Maloney.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Connection Homeless Shelter in North Platte is getting ready to wrap up the Out of the Box Challenge with the final presentations going on November 16th at Brigham's Taproom. Participants will be bringing their house to the Taproom at 5:00pm and guests can vote on which one is the best. During the evening event, there will be a big specials announcement made.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Mid-Plains United Way's Haven Smith and Lora Ballard from the Nebraska Youth Center. Smith gives us an update of what's going on with Mid-Plains United Way while we learn from Ballard what the Nebraska Youth Center is.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way campaign is officially underway for the 2023-2024 campaign year. The United Way is raising money to help support their partner agencies. The Nebraska Youth Center is one of many partners agencies that works with Mid-Plains United Way.&nbsp;

The Mid-Plains United Way has many upcoming events as we head into the holiday season. The events include:&nbsp;

The Nebraska Youth Center is to provide a safe environment for youths in crisis who can find acceptance in resolving issues. The center provides opportunities for these youth to positively change their behavioral patterns. The Nebraska Youth Center opened up its facility in North Platte in 2011.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath sat down with Axes &amp; Aces owners Lisa Citta and Brian Schimek and discussed the newest family fun/group entertainment attraction that is preparing to open in&nbsp;North Platte.

NORTH PLATTE - Axes &amp; Aces, the newest entertainment attraction coming to North Platte offers a family fun/group entertainment setting for everyone to enjoy. The new attraction will have golf simulators, axe throwing and pickle ball courts. The location also features a bar and will have a kitchen. As of now, the kitchen is not operational as parts to finish the kitchen will be coming in the next couple of weeks.

Axes &amp; Aces has hosted a few private events over the last few weeks with the North Platte Pickleball Club getting the chance to play on the brand new pickleball courts. During Halloween, Axes &amp; Aces hosted the Spooktacular Pickleball event which ended up being a 2-day event with how fast the first night filled up.&nbsp;

Axes &amp; Aces will be showing the Husker/Maryland game today at 11:00am and the bar is fully stocked and ready to go. The owners want to remind guests that there will be no food as the kitchen is still being worked on. Stearn's was in North Platte last Friday for a reception on the opening night of the gallery. Carlini discuses what other gallery's are currently on displayed at the PAC. The 2023 Holiday Passport is quickly approaching and the PAC is one of 20 attractions on this years passport. The PAC also always offers classes.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Annual St. Patrick's Church Christmas Boutique show is going to be held this Saturday, Nov. 11th at the St. Patrick's Church in North Platte. The event runs from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Starting at 11:00 am, a homemade lunch will be served for $5. Lunch will only be served until 1:00pm. There will be live music and door prizes throughout the day. The event is free to attend.&nbsp;

There will be 30 local vendors selling goodies at the St. Patrick's Christmas Boutique show. As of now, there is still room for 3 more vendors. If interested in becoming a vendor at the show, you can call the church at 308-532-0942. North Platte, Neb - This Friday, November 10th, TD Angus at Rishel Ranch will hold a Female only cattle auction at their ranch south of North Platte. According to TD Angus' Trey Wasserburger they will sell over 200 register females, and another 800 plus commercial females.

 Wasserburger said he thinks "it could be the greatest conglomerate of commercial females in the nation this year", with a full sister of Doc Ryan, the $525,000 bull sold from TD Angus at Rishel Ranch, being sold at lot 1 to kick off the day-long sale Friday.&nbsp;

Derek Beck from Eagle Media spoke with Wasserburger in depth about the upcoming sale and also spoke about progress at the Sustainable Beef Plant in North Platte that is currently under construction. LISTEN BELOW.

Some items discussed was the approve the bids for the pickleball and tennis courts at Cody Park, third reading on Ordinance No. 4137 Game of Skills, first reading of Ordinance No. 4148 relating to occupation taxes and so much more.&nbsp;

The fight card features 16 fights with 14 local fighters. McKeeman went 8-3-0 as an amateur fighter and finished off his amateur run winning his last 2 fights. NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way has officially kicked off their 2023-2024 campaign. Mid-Plains United Way helps out many different agencies in the region. The 2023-2024 campaign helps support those agencies throughout the year. With the holidays coming up, there are plenty of events like Operation Christmas Card on Nov. 6th, Veteran's Day Parade Nov. 11th are just a few of many events going on during the holiday season.&nbsp;

Ogallala - The Pryce Gette Silent Auction &amp; Benefit Dinner is going on November 17th at the Crandall Creek Golf Club in Ogallala. The free will donation event will open the doors at 5pm mountain time with Cocktail Hour as dinner will began serving at 6pm mountain. The event will feature a sloppy joe meal, silent auction and raffle tickets.

8-year-old Pryce Gette was injured in a rollover car accident on Oct. 16th and is currently at the Children's Hospital in Denver. The proceeds from the fundraiser event will help cover expense costs on Gette's road to recovery. Post News Director sat down with North Platte native and Doane University Professor Eric Stearns about his opening reception going on tonight at the Prairie Art Center of his latest ceramic work in a show titled Ra•ku.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - Eric Stearns returns to North Platte and tonight at the Prairie Art Center is his opening reception of his latest ceramic work titled Ra•ku. The event goes from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at the PAC and you can chat with Stearns at the event. Check out the latest pieces of art Stearns has done.&nbsp;

Raku is a method of quickly firing ceramic artwork. Eric removes the pieces from the kiln at 1450° F, when they're still red hot. The art is given about a minute or two to cool before placing it in a metal container with a few sheets of newspaper. The paper ignites and smokes then the container is closed.&nbsp;

The reduction atmosphere affects the glaze colors, and the smoke turns unglazed parts of the clay black. The drastic thermal shock also produces cracking in the glaze —known as crazing since it is deliberate. The piece is removed from the container once cool and cleaned up to remove residual soot and ash, revealing the brilliant glazes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Cowboy Christmas Show is gearing up for busy weekend when they welcome over 100 vendors to the D&amp;N Event Center this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 4th and 5th.) On Saturday, the event will run from 9:00am to 6:00pm (central time) and on Sunday from 9:00am - 4:00pm (central time). Admission for the event is to bring in a non-perishable food item for the Food Pantry. Concession will be provided by the Hershey 6th graders as part of a fundraiser for their Florida trip.&nbsp;

The 2023-2024 campaign helps support those agencies throughout the year. Also, Mid-Plains United Way is gearing up to have activities, one example is Christmas wrapping, is coming up.

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Micah Dunn about the upcoming Trunk or Treat event this Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The First United Methodist Church in North Platte will be hosting its annual Trunk or Treat event this Sunday from 4:00pm - 5:30pm in the southwest corner of the church. The event will also include a free will donation hotdog and chili feed. Over 30.000 pieces of candy are expected to be at the event. Door prizes and live music will also be taking place during the event.&nbsp;

Last year, the church did an experiment with a texting service for prizes and that service is back for a 2nd year. You can text TREAT to 308-730-4040 and be entered to win a prize from many local businesses. Texting TREAT to the number will also give you clues for prizes as well. Must be present to win. Guests can text that number now to get entered for prizes, clues will come out Sunday.&nbsp;

With potential weather coming this weekend, the church does have a backup plan of moving the event inside. That decision will be made Sunday. If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the podcast above.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Amy Sabatka and Jackie Curtis about the upcoming play Steel Magnolias in early November. Sabatka and Curtis are actresses in the play.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Community Playhouse in conjunction with the North Platte Community College Theatre Department will present "Steel Magnolias" on Nov. 10th-12th and Nov. 17th-19th at the Fox Theatre in North Platte. Showtimes are 7:30pm on Friday's and Saturday's while Sunday's will be 2pm.&nbsp;

The show "Steel Magnolias" is a comedy-drama about a group of Southern women who bond over life's triumphs and tragedies. The play premiered off Broadway in 1987 and was subsequently adapted into a movie starring Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, and Darly Hannah in 1989. The North Platte rendition will focus on the Broadway adaptation, not the movie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The unique twist the North Platte rendition is that the play has a double cast which means there are two actors for every role. Cast members will only perform in 3 out of the 6 shows, bringing a different perspective to every show.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For ticket prices, adults are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. High school students with a school ID can get tickets for $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. Lastly MPCC students, staff, and faculty just need to show their ID to get into the show for free.&nbsp;

Tickets will go on sale a week before the performance. NORTH PLATTE - The Prairie Arts Center always has many new and exciting exhibits/gallery's, classes and so much more going on. The Sheldon Exhibit, which is a traveling exhibit will be at the PAC tell the end of the month, also a Halloween exhibit, a special gallery will be set up for North Platte native Eric Sterns that will be open in early November and concerts.&nbsp;

Post News Director chatted with Brenda Hansen and Mardel Manary who are with the North Platte Opportunity Center. The trio chatted about the sensory that the NPOC has and also the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant that the NPOC received.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Opportunity Center serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and is dedicated to making an impact on these individual lives. The NPOC also helps individuals with their community living, and with jobs and so much more.&nbsp;

The NPOC also has a sensory side to help with individuals who struggle with sensory overload. "Sensory overload can be volume, it could be too many people, it can be a lot of different ways but it's a place for them to come decompress and unwind," said Brenda Hansen. "It's a very calming environment." Hansen has been working with the sensory side at the NPOC for almost 10 years.&nbsp;

The NPOC was recently granted the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant from the Lexington Community Foundation. "We are very excited that the Lexington Community Foundation granted us the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant and we are going to use that as part of our program over at the sensory side and we are getting some speech generated devices," said Mardel Manary. "We have&nbsp; 7 individuals who are nonverbal so it will help them communicate."&nbsp;

The NPOC also helps individuals with their community living, and with jobs and so much more.&nbsp;</p><p>The NPOC also has a sensory side to help with individuals who struggle with sensory overload. "Sensory overload can be volume, it could be too many people, it can be a lot of different ways but it's a place for them to come decompress and unwind," said Brenda Hansen. "It's a very calming environment." Hansen has been working with the sensory side at the NPOC for almost 10 years.&nbsp;</p><p>The NPOC was recently granted the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant from the Lexington Community Foundation. "We are very excited that the Lexington Community Foundation granted us the Sara Rickertsen Special Needs Grant and we are going to use that as part of our program over at the sensory side and we are getting some speech generated devices," said Mardel Manary. NORTH PLATTE - The Village of Sutherland is hosting an Economic Development Open House &amp; Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24th from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the Village of Sutherland Office. The event is open to the public and is a great time to learn about the economic program but also voice their concerns and ideas for growth for the community. It's also an opportunity to learn about the 3 Sutherland Economic Development Programs: Business Development Loan and Grant, Property Improvement Program Loan and Grant (Commercial and Residential) and Digital Marketing Grant.&nbsp;

The residents of Sutherland voted for LB840 in May of 2022 which is a collection of 1.5% sales tax. "It's an opportunity for businesses and citizens of Sutherland to learn about our economic development program and its brand new," said Muriel Clark. "We began collecting those funds in January of 2023, so we got about 6, 7 months of those collections coming into our coffers, and we are just wanting to let people know the funds we have and what is available to do with those funds."&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - The Kwik Stop Youth Basketball League for 3rd-6th graders registration is officially open. The deadline to register is November 12th. It's $50 to register for the league. You can register at the Rec Center or Sports Shoppe and you can also register individually or by team. Games begin in December and ran tell January. Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with 4-H'er McKenna Lundvall and 4-H Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Fashion Revue and Clothing Project.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. Some kids may not like showing animals as 4-H offers many other categories to participate in. One is the fashion revue.&nbsp;

The 4-H Fashion Revue is how a person can present himself/herself through clothing, grooming, facial expression and body movement is a form of communication. The goal is to help develop an understanding of personal presentation in public situations with regard to clothing, accessories and grooming. Sewing is an area that can be tough for many at first. "I did tie-dye in the beginning because I really didn't know how to sew and progressively you get more skills in sewing," said 4-H'er McKenna Lundvall.&nbsp;
