North Platte, Neb.– A 22-point second quarter helps North Platte take down Southeast Community College, 65-50, to open Region IX play on Tuesday night.

Zaily Mazarin capped off a perfect shooting night by going 5-of-5 from the field, while tallying 12 points and two blocks. Madison Cheleen matched her teammate with 12 points by connecting on 4-of-11 from long range.

"It was a great team win tonight,” said head coach Jeff Thurman. “I am proud of our defensive effort and attention to detail tonight.”

North Platte jumped out to a 12-6 lead on a layup by EmmaJo Locks, but Southeast surged back with a 7-1 run over the final 3:14 to tie the game up at 13-13 headed into the second quarter.

Southeast continued their run into the second quarter as they extended their lead to 21-15 with 7:42 to play. North Platte answered by holding the Bobcats scoreless over the next 4:17, while mounting a 16-0 run to take a 31-21 lead on a three by Nariah Golden.

Southeast cut the margin to four inside the final minute, but back-to-back steals from Nariah Golden helped ignite a 4-0 run to extend the margin to 35-27 headed into halftime.

North Platte held Southeast to three points in the opening 7:21 of the third quarter, while stretching their lead to 44-30. Knights continued to maintain a double digit lead the rest of the way to earn the Region IX win.

Knights (11-10) return to Region IX action on Saturday against Central Community College. Tip is set for 2 p.m. inside the Raider Field House in Columbus

Knights Earn Big Win Against Rival Bobcats at Home

North Platte, Neb. – A 50-point second half helped North Platte secure the win over the Bobcats of Southeast Community College on Tuesday night, 88-75.

Trey Summers led the Knights with a team-high 21 points and seven assists, while Mo Diao earned his sixth double-double of the season by finishing the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

"Southeast made some big runs late in the first half, but our guys responded well,” said head coach Jacob Brandl. "I’m super proud with our efforts on the glass tonight.”

The opening moments of the first half featured a back-and-forth battle until the Bobcats offense triggered a 7-0 run. North Platte did not back down as a bucket from Diao ignited a 15-0 rally that pushed the Knights out front. Southeast fought back in the closing minutes to cut the margin to 38-36 headed into the halftime break.

The Bobcats opened the second half with back-to-back buckets to briefly take the lead on a lay in by Chang Deng. The deficit grew to five over the next five minutes, until three-point play from Summers sparked a North Platte 14-0 run.&nbsp;

Knights recorded another run late in the second half to anchor their win, despite Southeast attempting to rally in the closing minutes.

North Platte (12-6) returns to the hardwood on Friday against Lamar Community College. Tip is set for 8 p.m. in Lamar, Colo.

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney head football coach Ryan Held announced today that Ruzell McCoy is the Lopers new linebacker's coach and recruiting coordinator.

He replaces Jesse Ornelas who recently left to become defensive coordinator at NAIA Central Methodist University (Lafayette, Mo.). Ornelas had been with the Lopers the past two years.&nbsp; ​

McCoy spent the 2024 season as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at NAIA Madonna University (Livonia, Mich.). The Crusaders first full football season came just four years ago.

"I'm very excited to have Ruzell McCoy join our staff. I've known Coach McCoy for many years and all the way back to when I recruited him in 2004," said Held. "He has a wide range of experiences from being a head coach, coordinator and position coach.”

An All-American linebacker in his playing days at Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State (Weatherford, Okla.), McCoy has also coached at his alma mater (2019-23), Ellsworth C.C., Iowa (spring 2019), NAIA McPherson College, Kan., Coffeyville C.C., Kan. (2016-17) and Highland C.C., Kan. (2012-13). Held was at coach of the Highland Scotties during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

McCoy served as DC at SWOSU, Ellsworth, McPherson, Coffeyville and Highlands while also working as a defensive line coach (Highland &amp; SWOSU) and linebackers coach (Ellsworth, Coffeyville &amp; Highland). Finally, he was interim head coach at SWOSU during the 2023 season.

"He'll be a great addition to our staff and will help us continue in our quest to build a consistent winning football program," said Held. "We're fired up to have Coach McCoy and his family join our Loper family."

Between 2005-08, the Frederick, Okla., native racked up 238 tackles for the Bulldogs. The total included 44.5 tackles for loss, third most in SWOSU's Division II era. A two-time first-team All-Lone Star Conference (LSC) selection, he also was tabbed the 2008 North Division's Linebacker of the Year. Finally, McCoy was a 2008 first-team Don Hansen Gazette's All-American and SWOSU's Male Athlete of the Year.

He holds two degrees from SWOSU, a bachelor's in Parks &amp; Recreation and a master's in Sports Management. McCoy and his wife, Sara, have three children in Kynna, Trey and Zella.&nbsp;

UNK is currently going through winter conditioning with spring ball slated to begin on Tuesday, March 25.&nbsp;

UNK Football add Veteran Defensive Coach

Lincoln&nbsp;- Nebraska's Britt Prince captured the first Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award of her career, sharing the honor with Ohio State's Jaloni Cambridge when the conference announced its weekly recognition on Monday, Jan. 20.

Prince, a 5-11 point guard from Omaha, Neb., led the Huskers with a game-high 22 points on a career-high five three-pointers in an 87-84 overtime win at Iowa on Thursday night. The Elkhorn North High School grad added a career-high six steals to go along with seven rebounds and five assists in a tremendous all-around effort to help the Big Red to its first road win in Iowa City since 2018.

Prince's step-back three-pointer with 50 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 75, before her two free throws with 2.8 seconds left in front of 15,000 hostile Hawkeye fans sent the game to overtime.&nbsp;

Prince has been a catalyst in Nebraska's four-game Big Ten winning streak heading into tonight's home game with Wisconsin at Pinnacle Bank Arena. During the streak, Prince is averaging 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals to increase her season averages to 13.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and team bests 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lincoln&nbsp;- Kendall Moriarty came off the bench for a career-high 17 points while Jessica Petrie added a career high of her own with 15 points to lead five Huskers in double figures as Nebraska rolled to a 91-60 women's basketball win over Wisconsin on Monday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers, who extended their Big Ten-best home winning streak to 15 games, stretched their overall winning streak to five with their most lopsided conference win of the season. Nebraska improved to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in the Big Ten with its road losses coming in back-to-back games at No. 1 UCLA and No. 4 USC during the holiday break.

Petrie, a 6-2 power forward from Gold Coast, Australia, sank a career-best 3-for-4 threes, while Moriarty tied her career high with 3-for-4 three-point shooting of her own, as the Huskers tied a Pinnacle Bank Arena record with 16 threes on 32 attempts.

Petrie added seven rebounds and a career-best three assists, while Moriarty pitched in four rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in her best all-around effort of the season.

Big Ten Freshman of the Week added 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists while adding a pair of threes, while Alexis Markowski contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists of her own.&nbsp; Markowski, a 6-3 center from Lincoln, pushed her career rebounding total to 1,112 on the night, surpassing All-American Jordan Hooper (1,110, 2011-14) to become the No. 3 rebounder in Nebraska history.

Freshman Petra Bozan rounded out the five Huskers in double figures with 10 points, as Nebraska put its sixth different group of five Huskers in double-digit scoring this season.

Callin Hake added nine points on 3-of-4 three-point shooting to go with five assists and three steals in another outstanding effort for the Big Red, while senior guard&nbsp;Alberte Rimdal pitched in a career-high eight assists.&nbsp;

The Huskers shot 54.2 percent (32-59) from the field, including 16-of-32 threes (.500), while connecting on 11-of-12 free throws (.917). Nebraska dished out 27 assists on 32 made baskets in an unselfish performance that included a 35-5 edge in bench points for the Big Red.

Nebraska held Wisconsin to 37.9 percent (25-66) shooting from the floor, including 3-of-17 threes (.176). The Huskers outworked the Badgers on the glass, 38-33, and matched UW with 15 turnovers.

Serah Williams led all scorers with 20 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds, and Carter McCray added 14 points and six rebounds inside for the Badgers. Point guard Ronnie Porter was the only other player in double figures with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Nebraska led 18-14 after one quarter, before pushing the lead to 42-26 behind huge second quarters from Prince and Petrie. Prince scored NU's first seven points of the quarter and assisted on a Markowski basket to turn a game tied at 18 to a 27-19 Husker lead with 6:16 left in the half to force a Wisconsin timeout.&nbsp;

OMAHA, Neb. –&nbsp;The&nbsp;Omaha Supernovas (2-2)&nbsp;fell to the San Diego Mojo (2-2) in four sets (25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 22-25) Sunday afternoon at the&nbsp;CHI Health Center&nbsp;in front of&nbsp;12,723,&nbsp;ranking as the&nbsp;second-highest attendance match in U.S. Pro Volleyball history.

Third-year pro&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;continued her dominant start to the season with a match-high 24 points with 22 kills on a .236 hitting percentage while adding 11 digs for her sixth-straight double-double, which dates back to last season. Former Nebraska Cornhusker and USC Trojan&nbsp;Ally Batenhorst&nbsp;contributed 12 kills in her first career pro start while&nbsp;Reagan Cooper&nbsp;added nine kills.

Another Husker alum,&nbsp;Lindsay Krause, excelled off the bench, delivering six kills on an outstanding .750 hitting percentage. Setter&nbsp;Natalia Valentín-Anderson&nbsp;orchestrated the offense with 44 assists and added a match-high 21 digs on the defensive end.&nbsp;Libero Camila Gómez&nbsp;posted nine digs and eight assists.&nbsp;

Kayla Caffey&nbsp;led Supernovas middle blockers with eight kills on a .368 clip while recording one block.&nbsp;Kaitlyn Hord&nbsp;chipped in four kills of her own on a .444 hitting percentage while also adding two more blocks to her PVF-leading 16 stuffs.&nbsp;

The Supernovas finished the match with a .250 hitting percentage, five blocks and one ace.

The Mojo’s victory was powered by six-year veteran Kendra Dahlke, who delivered an impressive 18 kills on a .356 hitting percentage. Middle blocker and Oregon product Ronika Stone followed with nine kills on a .333 hitting percentage, while setter Da-yeong Lee made a significant impact with 46 assists and 14 digs.

Omaha takes a five-day break before traveling to Ohio to take on the Columbus Fury on Friday, January 24 at Nationwide Arena. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CST and will be broadcasted live on the PVF YouTube Channel. It can also be heard on the Supernovas Radio Network.

The Supernovas are back at the&nbsp;CHI Health Center&nbsp;on Friday, January 31 when they face the Fury for the second-straight match with first serve set for 7 p.m. CST in downtown Omaha.&nbsp;

Set 1:&nbsp;The match began with San Diego’s Regan Pittman delivering the opening kill. Nuneviller and Cooper answered with back-to-back kills, helping Omaha take an early lead at 2-1. Cooper followed with her team-leading fifth ace of the season. The Novas extended their advantage to 9-3 thanks to contributions from Nuneviller, Batenhorst, Cooper and a series of errors by San Diego. The Mojo got within three, Batenhorst and Hord went back-to-back with a kill and block to extend the advantage to 14-8. Lee posted a block on a Nuneviller attack before a Jenaisya Moore kill cut the lead to 17-15. Another service error by the Mojo, followed by a Nuneviller tally put the lead back to four at 19-15. Dahlke put away her third kill of the set to make it 22-20, but the Supernovas rallied for a 3-0 run to end the set, capped off by another Nuneviller kill for a 25-20 set win. Her and Cooper ultimately took control, both recording seven kills for the set while the team hit .250 compared to the Mojo’s .243.

Set 2:&nbsp;The set began with a Mojo hitting error, giving the Supernovas an early lead. Pittman followed with a kill of her own for San Diego. The set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading kills. A quick 2-0 burst by a Mojo service error and a Hord block put the Supernovas up 10-8. Dahlke tied the set later at 12 with her fifth kill of the match. Tied at 14, San Diego put together a key 3-0 run thanks to back-to-back kills from Moore and Blackwell with a Batenhorst hitting error. The momentum continued to shift in the Mojo’s favor when Moore delivered two more crucial kills, Stone capitalizing on a slide attack, and a series of Supernovas errors, allowing the Mojo to pull ahead 19-16. Omaha couldn’t recover from the small deficit, as the Mojo ran off with a 5-2 run to secure the set at 25-19.&nbsp;

Nuneviller led Omaha with four kills while the team hit a high clip of .312, but San Diego was unstoppable with five kills from Dahlke and a .500 clip.&nbsp;

Set 3:&nbsp;The Supernovas started the third set with two kills by Batenhorst and one by Nuneviller, giving them an early 3-2 lead. The Mojo quickly answered with kills from Lauren Page and Ronika Stone to reclaim momentum. A series of errors by Omaha allowed San Diego to pull ahead 15-11, forcing the Supernovas to call a timeout. The stoppage didn’t help as the action continued with Stone recording another kill on a slide to complete a 6-1 run. The Mojo continued to extend their lead with another 5-1 run off a Stone kill, two from Dahlke and a kill from Rainelle Jones to go up 22-15. Omaha made an adjustment bringing in Krause late in the set, but San Diego maintained their edge. Stone, who hit an impressive .500 in the set, sealed the victory with a decisive kill, giving the Mojo a 25-22 victory.

Set 4:&nbsp;Lauren Page began the set with a kill, carrying the Mojo’s momentum from the previous sets. Batenhorst quickly responded with a kill to tie the score at deuces. San Diego extended its lead to 7-4 with a pair of kills from Dahlke. Nuneviller answered with two kills of her own to keep Omaha within striking distance, but another kill by Dahlke forced the Supernovas to call a timeout with the score at 15-11. Despite a late push by Omaha, with Nuneviller, Caffey and Krause each contributing two kills, the Supernovas couldn’t fully recover from the early deficit. The Mojo held their ground and closed out the set with a 25-22 victory, securing the match.

Kearney, Neb. –&nbsp;The fifth-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team fell to NAIA power Grand View, 27-12, Thursday night in Des Moines.

The top-ranked Vikings, who’ve won 12 of the last 13 NAIA national titles, move to 9-0 in the dual season while UNK falls to 7-5.

The Lopers were more than short-handed as starters&nbsp;Zach Ourada&nbsp;(125 lbs.),&nbsp;Trenton Munoz&nbsp;(165 lbs.) and&nbsp;Jackson Kinsella&nbsp;(197 lbs.) were out due to either injury or illness. All three should return to action soon. Ourada is ranked No. 1 in his class, Kinsella is third with Munoz having spent time in the 165-pound top 15.

At heavyweight, top-ranked&nbsp;Crew Howard&nbsp;(Clarinda, Ia.) bested top-ranked Greg Hagan, 5-2. To avenge a loss to Hagan last year, Howard used an escapes and takedown in third period. Next, North Carolina twins&nbsp;Jacobi&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jacari Deal&nbsp;won at 174 and 184 pounds. Jacari is now 4-0 after getting two takedowns, 7-2, with Jacobi, UNK’s former starter at 184 pounds, getting past top-ranked Alex Reynolds in sudden victory, 4-1. Both wrestlers record an escape in regulation before Deal’s winning takedown.

UNK’s other win also came by a 4-1 score in overtime as junior&nbsp;Hector Serratos&nbsp;(Wichita) got past second-ranked Jackson Cockrell. At the next weight, redshirt sophomore&nbsp;Joseph Airola&nbsp;(Ward, Colo.) wasn’t as fortunate as he lost by just a 1-0 score to top-ranked Carson Taylor. UNK Wrestling: Short Handed Lopers Fall at Grand View, 27-12

Kearney, Neb. – Redshirt junior point guard Jillian Aschoff scored 19 points and senior wing Samantha Moore had her second straight double double to help lift Nebraska Kearney over Northwest Missouri State, <a href="https://lopers.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2024-25/northwest-missouri/boxscore/7999">71-64</a>, Thursday night at the Health &amp; Sports Center.

The Lopers (12-3, 5-1) sweep the season series from the Bearcats (9-8, 2-5) to now lead the all-time series, 18-9.

UNK trailed 30-26 at the break but used a big third quarter, 26-15, to move ahead. They shot 73% (8 of 11) in the first 10 minutes of the second half but couldn’t pull away as they sunk just 8 of 13 free throws.

“In the third quarter we created more flow in transition. We fouled them a few too many times in the quarter but we really created an up and down pace which is to our advantage,” said UNK head coach Drew Johnson. “We were able to drive it on a broken floor. When the floor is set, Northwest is one of the best defensive teams in the country. When it’s broken, you have some advantages you can try and take.”

Northwest hung around thanks to the heroics of fifth-year senior guard Molly Hartnett who went for 28 points, six assists and six rebounds. Down nine late in the third quarter, the ‘Cats trimmed the deficit to two midway through the fourth and then to three on two other occasions. However, the Lopers had a response each time, sinking six of their last eight free throws and getting two paint buckets from veteran post Kia Wilson (St. George, Kan.).

Aschoff (Lincoln Pius) reached her team-best point total by making 8 of 10 free throws and sinking five shots. She also had five rebounds and three assists with Moore (Mullen) at 11 rebounds and 18 points. She went 3 for 3 from deep with two of the shots helping UNK claw its way back into things.

“Those two threes Samantha hit were deep; it was 20-12 and we needed them,” said Johnson. “When she plays like that, with a chip on her shoulder, she’s a hard guard.”

Six others were between two and nine points including junior reserve point guard Saniya Simmons (Olathe, Kan.) and sophomore reserve post Bailee Sobczak (Rapid City, S.D.). The 5-2 Simmons blocked a late three-point attempt by Northwest with Sobczak having eight boards and eight points.

“Rotating out and getting that block was fantastic and I thought Saniya played well tonight. She played a bunch of minutes and was dynamic defensively against Emporia State (last Saturday night) and we’re going to need her a ton this season,” said Johnson.

Besides Hartnett, Northwest got 13 points from junior Emree Zars and 10 points from graduate guard Caely Kesten. She was one of three ‘Cats to foul out late. UNK finished 19 of 28 at the line and was plus 11 on the glass with NW having just six turnovers.

Aschoff & Moore help the Lopers down the 'Cats, 71-64

Kearney, Neb. – Three players scored in double figures and Nebraska Kearney took advantage of a rare five-point possession to get past Northwest Missouri State, <a href="https://lopers.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2024-25/northwest-missouri/boxscore/8018">74-69</a>, Thursday night at the Health &amp; Sports Center.

UNK (6-8, 4-2) wins a fourth straight game for the first time since 2019-20 and takes the season series from the Bearcats (4-12, 2-5). Prior to this year, the Lopers had beaten ‘Cats just once since joining the conference.

The close game trend continues for the Blue &amp; Gold as they are now 4-5 in games decided by eight points or less. They lost their first five such contests but have turned the tables in the New Year.

It seemed UNK might run away with things as they held a 14-point lead at the end of the first half and at the start of the second half, 38-24. However, the ‘Cats sunk six second half threes and were better on the glass after the break to not only trim that deficit but also move ahead. Senior Byron Alexander recorded a putback bucket with 2:38 left to make it 66-61.

On a night where UNK was just 10 of 18 at the line, senior Chase Thompson (Omaha Westside) sunk two freebies to make it a one possession game. After getting a stop, redshirt junior Kendrick Gilbert (St. Louis) saw his baseline shot blocked out of bounds. However, Northwest was called for a technical foul and that turned the tide.

“The kid just let his emotions get away and said something he probably shouldn’t have said. It did end up going our way,” said UNK head coach Marty Levinson. “Chase made both free throws and then the elevator play worked perfectly.”

Thompson hit the two technical shots and then sunk a triple with 1:30 remaining to put UNK ahead for good, 68-66. Northwest missed the second of two free throws 10 seconds later and then the Lopers made all three shots in took in the final 1:01. Northwest, meanwhile, made two freebies but missed their last two shots.

“We haven’t quit against anybody, so I didn’t expect us to lay down (after getting behind). Maybe it’s about the wins we have had recently. It’s given them a little bit more confidence that ‘hey, we’ve been in these moments, and we’ll make this thing go our way,” said Levinson.

Thompson went for a game-high 21 points by going 7 of 11 (3 of 4 threes) from the field with guards Ja’Bryant Hill (17) and Allen Taylor (16) combining for 33 points. Hill (Duncanville, Texas) also hit seven shots with Taylor (Rogers, Ark.) having 12 first half points. He also had six rebounds and three assists with Hill at four steals.

UNK shot 48% and was plus three on the glass with Northwest having 21 second chance points off 12 o-boards. The Lopers overcame that by having a 14-point advantage in the paint.

“Our whole plan was to stomp them when we came out of the locker room and put them away,” said Levinson. “But they came out and everything just went their way. That’s when your character has to matter, and you have to power through it.”

Also, post Taylor Harrell (Huntsville, Texas) had 11 rebounds, eight points and two blocks with wing DJ Jamerson (Cibolo, Texas) at four points and a block. UNK had a season-best seven swats.

Northwest got 16 points from both senior Luke Moustakas and Wahoo freshman Marcus Glock; the pair combined to go 7 of 14 from behind the arc. Alexander came on strong and tallied 11 boards, seven points and three assists.

Lopers Win Another Close One, Sweep Season Series from Northwest

Iowa City&nbsp;- Freshman Britt Prince scored a game-high 22 points, including huge plays down the stretch in regulation to lead Nebraska in a total team effort on its way to an 87-84 overtime victory over Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday night.

Playing in front of nearly 15,000 fans and a Big Ten Network audience, Prince not only pumped in 22 points, she added seven rebounds, five assists and a career-high six steals to lead the Cornhuskers to their first win at Carver-Hawkeye since 2018.&nbsp; Nebraska improved to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten, while Iowa slipped to 12-6 and 2-5 in the conference.

In a rematch of the 2024 Big Ten Championship Game, which also went to overtime in a Husker loss at the Target Center in Minneapolis, senior center Alexis Markowski pitched in 19 points and seven rebounds despite being strapped by foul trouble for most of the game. Markowski fouled out early in the overtime period, but young posts Jessica Petrie and Amiah Hargrove stepped up with huge plays.

Petrie, a sophomore from Gold Coast, Australia, who was coming off the best game of her career with 12 points and nine rebounds in a road win at Rutgers on Sunday, added 13 points and six rebounds, including five points in the final four minutes of regulation. Her biggest shot came on a three-pointer with 2:14 left in regulation to pull Nebraska within 72-70 after the Huskers trailed by 11 points with six minutes left.

Petrie added two critical free throws with 2:02 left in overtime to give Nebraska an 85-78 lead, but her biggest play of the night game with an offensive rebound after a Kendall Moriarty free throw miss. Petrie kicked the rebound out to Prince who found Logan Nissley. The sophomore from Bismarck, N.D., was fouled and hit two free throws with 9.9 seconds left to seal the victory.

Nissley, who finished with 13 points and five assists, pulled Nebraska off the deck when the Huskers trailed 64-53 with six minutes left in regulation. She started a massive Husker rally with a three-pointer from the corner in front of the Big Red bench, then added another three-pointer 38 seconds later off a scrappy, smart play by Prince to suddenly put the Huskers within striking distance at 64-59.

Markowski and Petrie capped a 10-0 Big Red run to draw within 64-63 with four minutes left.

In addition to double-figure efforts from Prince, Markowski, Petrie and Nissley, freshman forward Amiah Hargrove notched her first career double-double with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Hargrove also hit a pair of big threes early in the game, including NU's fourth consecutive three-pointer as part of a 16-2 Husker surge that turned a 17-10 deficit into a 26-19 first-quarter lead. Her second three gave NU a 34-28 edge with 3:29 left in the first half.

Alberte Rimdal also played a major role in Nebraska's success with nine points off the bench, while Moriarty may have had the play of the game with her remarkable defensive rebound of a missed Iowa three on the baseline, after she dove on the floor into the Iowa cheerleaders at the opposite end.

Nebraska led 26-19 after one quarter and maintained a one-point halftime lead (38-37) after going up 10 points at 31-21 early in the second quarter. Iowa claimed a 56-51 lead heading to the final period and pushed the lead to 64-53 before the Husker rally to send the game to overtime.&nbsp;

For the game, Nebraska hit 45.2 percent (28-62) of its shots, including an outstanding 43.3 percent (13-30) from long range. The Huskers were also an outstanding 18-for-22 at the free throw line, including 8-for-8 in regulation before converting 10-of-14 free throws in overtime. Nebraska won without hitting an OT field goal.

The Hawkeyes hit 44.1 percent (30-68) from the field, including 8-of-27 threes (.296), but just 16-of-29 free throws (.552) on their home court. Iowa outworked Nebraska on the glass, 42-38, and won the turnover battle, 16-13.

Hannah Stuelke led six Hawkeyes in double figures with 16 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while Sydney Affolter added a double-double of her own with 10 points and 13 boards. Lucy Olsen and Aaliyah Guyton both contributed 14 points, while Kylie Feuerback contributed 13 points. Addison O'Grady added 10 points off the bench for the Hawkeyes.

Record Rumble:&nbsp;A pair of franchise records fell in the opening weekend for the Supernovas, who saw two newcomers sketch their names in the record book.&nbsp;Newly signed&nbsp;libero&nbsp;Camila Gómez&nbsp;broke a single-match record for digs, posting 31 digs (6.20 D/S), plus five assists in the thrilling five-set win over Atlanta.
