Arlington, Texas - After going 8-5 over the weekend, the third-ranked Nebraska bowling team finished in fifth place, tallying a 12,372 total pinfall on the weekend with a 209.7 average.&nbsp;

The Cornhuskers matched up with No. 12 Louisiana Tech in one final traditional match. NU started with Desiree Buchert, Haley Swindle, Kayla Starr, Anna Callan and Jillian Martin. Buchert led the way for Nebraska, recording seven strikes and rolling a 250. Martin followed, adding a 217. Swindle rolled a 204 and Starr bowled a 182. Callan added a 165 as the Huskers topped Louisiana Tech, 1,018-894, improving to an overall 6-5 record going into bracket play.&nbsp;

The Big Red took on No. 9 Maryville in their first round best-of-seven baker match in the consolation bracket, the first time this season the Huskers haven’t had a chance to reach the finals in a tournament this season. The two teams previously met on the first day of competition where the Saints took down the Big Red, 1,051-945. In game one, Brenna Hartzler came in for Starr in her first appearance this tournament as NU recorded seven strikes behind Martin’s four as Nebraska topped Maryville, 200-187. Martin hit her seventh consecutive strike of the match as the team recorded five straight at the end of game two to top Maryville, 225-214, going up 2-0. The Huskers substituted Kayla Verstraete for Buchert in game 3 and Verstraete struckout in both her frames as NU bowled a 255 over the Saints’ 200. Verstraete and Hartzler recorded their fourth consecutive strikes respectively in the fourth and the team tallied eight total as the Cornhuskers bowled a clean 235 and took down Maryville in a 4-0 sweep. In the match, Martin recorded 13 total strikes and the team averaged a 228.75, moving to 7-5 overall in the tournament.&nbsp;

In the final match of the tournament, the Huskers faced No. 4 Youngstown State for a chance at fifth place. Nebraska opened the tournament against the Penguins, a matchup where NU won, 1,032-1,010. The Big Red opened the match with a clean game one as the team rolled a 213, but were topped by Youngstown State, 232-213, after two three-strike bursts by the Penguins. In game two, the Cornhuskers bowled a 188 to top Youngstown State, 188-160, bringing the match to 1-1. NU started the third game with three straight strikes and hit three more late in the game to score a 223 to edge out the Penguins, 223-212, despite four strikes to end the game by Youngstown State. Hartzler hit her fifth strike in a row and as a team hit six straight at the end of game four, tallying nine strikes total to top Youngstown State, 256-228, going up 3-1 on the match. Hartzler recorded her sixth consecutive strike and Callan her fifth as the Huskers went on a six strike run in game five. The Cornhuskers led the strike margin 8-7 and edged out the Penguins, 249-235, to take the match, 4-1.&nbsp;

Three Huskers finished in the top 25 for individual performances. Buchert was 13th overall with a total pinfall of 1,324 and a 220.67 average. Martin finished in 16th with a total pinfall of 1,313 and average of 218.83. Starr finished at 22nd with a total pinfall of 1,280 and a 213.33 average.&nbsp;

NU returns to the lanes Feb. 7-9, as the Huskers travel to Lockport, Ill., for the Flyer Classic hosted by Lewis.

Huskers finish Fifth in Texas at Bowling event

Lincoln&nbsp;- Alexis Markowski led Nebraska with 18 points, but No. 12 Ohio State made enough plays down the stretch to outlast the Huskers, 72-66, in front of 9,772 fans at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Markowski, who added six rebounds to move into sole possession of second place on Nebraska's career rebound list at 1,118, converted a three-point play with 3:11 left to pull the Huskers within 65-63. She finished another shot at the rim to keep NU within 68-66 with 1:42 left, but the Buckeyes got the final four points of the game in the final 25 seconds at the free throw line from Madison Greene to seal the win.&nbsp;

Nebraska, which had its five-game overall winning streak and 15-game home winning streak snapped, slipped to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten. Ohio State improved to 19-1 and 8-1 in the conference. All three of NU's Big Ten losses have come at the hands of the top three teams in the league - No. 1 UCLA, No. 4 USC and No. 12 Ohio State.&nbsp;

Callin Hake pumped in 12 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while adding four rebounds and three steals for the Huskers, who led 21-17 after the first quarter and 38-36 at halftime. Freshman Britt Prince pitched in eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals while shutting out Ohio State freshman Jaloni Cambridge, who went just 0-1 from the field in 17 minutes while committing five turnovers. Cambridge entered the game averaging better than 15 points per game.

Alberte Rimdal also contributed eight points and three assists off the bench for the Big Red, while Jessica Petrie added six points, six rebounds and three assists.

Ohio State took control of the game with a big third quarter from Cotie McMahon. The All-Big Ten forward scored 11 of her 15 points for the game in the period to push the Buckeyes to a 61-55 edge heading to the fourth quarter. McMahon added a game-high 10 rebounds to go with three assists and three steals for the Buckeyes.

Taylor Thierry did the most damage for Ohio State, knocking down a career-high five three-pointers to finish with a game-high 23 points. Thierry went 8-for-10 overall from the field while adding seven rebounds and three steals. Her final three-pointer stopped a 7-0 Husker run late in the fourth to put the Buckeyes back in front 68-64 after Nebraska had cut the lead to 65-64 on a Hake free throw with 2:27 left.

Greene, who sealed the win at the free throw line, was the only other player to finish in double figures with 11 points.

Nebraska electrified the third-largest crowd for a Husker women's basketball game in PBA history by jumping to a 15-9 lead in the first 5:30. Markowski and Hake both scored six points, while freshman Amiah Hargrove added a three-pointer to put the Big Red in front early.&nbsp;

Ohio State answered to take its first lead at 22-21 early in the second quarter, before the Huskers responded with an 8-0 run to grab their biggest lead at 29-22 with 5:32 left in the first half.&nbsp;

The Buckeyes finished the first half with a flurry and appeared to take a 39-38 to halftime on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Greene to end the half. Upon review, Greene was out of bounds on the shot and the points were wiped off the board before the start of the second half.

The two teams opened the third quarter in a possession-for-possession dogfight with Nebraska taking its last lead of the game on Alberte Rimdal's three-pointer with under four minutes left to make it 53-52. Thierry answered with a three of her own with 3:30 left to put the Buckeyes back in front for good. OSU built several eight-point leads over the next seven minutes before Logan Nissley connected on her only three-pointer of the game to start NU's seven-point fourth-quarter run.

Nebraska hits just 37.9 percent (25-66) of its shots from the field, including 9-of-35 threes (.257), while going just 7-of-13 at the free throw line. The Buckeyes answered with 50 percent (27-54) shooting, including 7-of-20 threes (.350). OSU also hit 11-of-16 free throws. The Buckeyes won the rebounding battle, 38-37, but the Huskers pulled down 12 offensive boards compared to just five for Ohio State. Nebraska also won the turnover battle, 16-13, against an Ohio State team that led the conference in turnover margin (+11.4) entering the contest.

The Huskers return to Big Ten road action by traveling to Purdue on Thursday, Jan. 30. Tip-off between the Big Red and the Boilermakers from Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind., is set for 6 p.m. (CT) with a live video stream for B1G+ subscribers. Huskers Fall in Final Minute to No. 12 Buckeyes

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team defeated Maryland in a Big Ten meet on Sunday, 196.325-195.950, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.&nbsp;

The Huskers moved to 2-6 on the season (1-1 Big Ten), while Maryland fell to 2-4 (0-2 Big Ten).&nbsp;

Emma Spence claimed the vault title with a 9.825, as well as the beam title with a 9.900. Whitney Jencks won the bars event with a 9.900 and Lauren Homecillo clinched the floor title in her first time in any event lineup this season with a career-high 9.950.&nbsp;

Spence won the all-around for NU (2-6, 1-1 Big Ten) with a 39.475. McClelland and Jencks both earned a 39.225.&nbsp;

NU did not have a fall on any event, and the team notched three career highs and four season highs.&nbsp;

The Huskers opened the night on vault, notching a 48.850 as a team. Spence led the way with a season-high 9.825, and Jencks followed with a 9.800. Isabel Sikon scored a 9.775, and Katie Kuenemann and Sophia McClelland each logged a 9.725. That marked a season high on the event for McClelland. Ayzhia Hall rounded out the rotation with a 9.675.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jencks notched a new career high on bars with a 9.900 to lead NU to a 49.175 total score. Emma Spence scored a 9.850, followed by Emma Simpton (9.825) and Sikon and McClelland both registering a 9.800. Emalee Frost finished the lineup with a 9.700.&nbsp;

Nebraska scored a 48.975 on beam, led by Spence once again with a season-high 9.900. Simpton (9.850) and McClelland (9.825) followed for the Big Red. Jencks (9.775), Sikon (9.625) and Nya Kraus (9.250) rounded out the lineup.&nbsp;

The Big Red concluded the night on floor and scored a 49.325 as a team. Homecillo led Nebraska in her first time competing this season in any event with a career-high 9.950. Spence (9.900) and McClelland (9.875) followed up for Nebraska. Halle Rourke set a season high with a 9.850. Jencks (9.750) and Baechle (9.750) finished the competition.&nbsp;

The Huskers will continue conference play as they will host Iowa on Saturday. The meet is slated to begin at 7 p.m. (CT) at Bob Devaney Sports Center and will be streamed on B1G+.

Cyclists Gear Up for the 43rd Annual Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska

Kearney, Neb. – Senior wing Samantha Moore grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and was one of nine players to score as Nebraska Kearney held off Central Oklahoma, 55-48, Thursday night in Edmond.

The Lopers (14-3, 7-1) win a fifth straight game, hand the Bronchos (4-14, 3-6) a fifth straight loss and take a fifth straight game in the series. This is the only meeting between the two this year.

UNK led from start to finish but had to hang as UCO senior reserve Karly Wadsworth sunk four threes and the Lopers missed five free throws in the fourth quarter. That allowed the ‘Chos to cut a 42-25 deficit to five with 28 seconds left. They could’ve gotten even closer but 6-2 senior Jordyn Turner missed a three and then Moore (Mullen) went 2 for 2 at the line with 20 seconds left. Turner is now 11 of 15 (73%) from the triple line this winter.

“I didn’t think we guarded right in the fourth quarter. Obviously, Wadsworth got hot and did what she’s capable of doing,” said UNK head coach Drew Johnson on the KRVN Radio post-game show. “But our attention to deal in the fourth quarter wasn’t good enough. We didn’t close it the way we needed to.”

UNK held UCO to just 25 points and nine field goals over the first three quarters. However, a 15-point lead entering the fourth could’ve been bigger as the Lopers had 20 turnovers for a second straight game and went 6 of 24 (25%) from behind the arc.

“Twenty turnovers are too many. Nine assists and 20 turnovers … we tried to play finesse around their athleticism instead of ball fake and deliver,” said Johnson. “Disappointed in that because we had a chance to bury them, and we didn’t. But credit to UCO for their run at the end.”

Wadsworth came in shooting only 23% (15 of 67) from downtown but the veteran shooter finally got hot when it mattered most. Freshman reserve Alex Flattery (Sioux City) countered the explosion by hitting two threes of her own to make the score 47-33 and then 50-35.

“She (Alex) was not afraid of the moment and not fazed when the physicality ramped up in the fourth quarter,” said Johnson. “Her minutes were big tonight”

UNK was plus 13 on the glass with Moore leading the way. She had four offensive and 12 defensive caroms with her overall total three shy of tying Shiloh McCool’s record. Next, sophomore reserve post Bailee Sobczak (Rapid City, S.D.) added six more boards with junior point guard Jillian Aschoff (Lincoln Pius) at five.

“Sam’s boards were huge and she’s really rebounding it well this year (7.6 per game). Not sure that was on my bingo card at the start of the year,” said Johnson.

Aschoff had a team-high 10 points, her third straight game in double figures. She was 5 of 9 from the field and joined junior reserve Saniya Simmons (Olathe, Kan.) as Lopers with three assists. Finally, Flattery was 3 of 3 from the field to have nine points with Moore at seven.

The Bronchos (10-8, 4-5) improve to 8-3 at home and have won all 10 games by at least 15 points. By contrast, all eight of their losses are by 10 points or less. UNK (6-10, 4-4) falls to 5-23 all-time vs. UCO including a 0-13 mark in 50-year-old Hamilton Fieldhouse. This is the only meeting between the two this year.

Hart, who began his career at Seminole State (Okla.) College, redshirted last season for the 'Chos but entered tonight at a team-best 15.7 points per game. He promptly made 9 of his first 10 shots to have 24 points in just 14 first half minutes. It was a bit of a shootout as UCO shot 60% (19 of 32) in the first half with UNK at 52% (16 of 31). That gave the Lopers a puncher's chance as they were down just 47-39 at the break.

"Hart came out and hit tough shot after tough shot. They weren't wide open shots; they were bumped, they were contested," said UNK head coach Marty Levinson on the KRVN Radio post-game show. "They were ready to play and are a good team. You might know what they are going to do but they still get to it."

A three from redshirt junior guard Ja'Bryant Hill (Duncanville, Texas) made it a 49-44 two minutes into the second half. UNK then got a defensive stop, but a turnover followed and ended the momentum. UCO responded with a 20-10 run over the next nine minutes to put things away.

"They out rebounded us, and they pretty much got to the loose balls. And when you get to the loose balls, you usually do make shots," said Levinson. "You got to take it from them when you're on the road, but they came out and punched us in the nose first."

The Lopers cooled off from the field in the second half (27%) as did UCO (39%). However, the 'Chos won the battle on the glass by nine, took advantage of 18 UNK turnovers and got eight others into the scoring column besides Hart.

To record his seventh game of at least 20 points this winter, Hart was 10 of 15 (4 of 7 threes) from the field and 6 of 6 at the line. He added three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 28 minutes. Hart also had 30 points in a March 2023 win over Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa. Next, Division I transfers Jordan Thompson (13) and Jacobi Seabock (12) combined for 25 points, 12 rebounds and four assists with 6-10 veteran post Luke Haasl at five rebounds, four points, and three blocks.

"In the second half, we wanted to hard hedge (on Hart). Get after him and take him out. They are a good slipping and good rolling team and have athletic bigs. So, it's hard to over hedge," said Levinson. "It bit us because he came off the corner and made good decisions. At the end of the game, we had to chase possessions and stay aggressive."

Four Loper starters reached double digits including Hill (16) and sophomore post Taylor Harrell (12). Hill added three steals with Harrell going 5 of 8 from the field. Off the bench, forward Clayton Moore (Mullen) and DJ Jamerson (Cibolo, Texas) had six points apiece.

Series Notes:&nbsp;This is the fifth match between Omaha and Columbus. The Supernovas won the 2024 season series 3-1, including a 1-1 record at Nationwide Arena. The Fury took down the Supernovas in their first-ever home match in Columbus with a four-set victory on Feb. 21, 2024. The Supernovas went on to win the remaining three matches, including two four-setters on April 4 and May 4, which was followed by an Omaha sweep on May 9.&nbsp;

Hording the Net:&nbsp;Omaha middle Kaitlyn Hord has been one of the premier blockers in the league through the first two weeks of the 2025 season. The former Husker and Nittany Lion leads the PVF in total blocks with 16 while sitting second in blocks per set at 0.94. Hord's seven blocks in the five-set win over the Vibe on opening night set a Supernovas single-match record. Also, she is only one of two players in the PVF to record seven or more blocks in a match this season. The Kentucky native also sits ninth in hitting percentage with a .333 clip through 54 attacks with 21 kills and only three errors.&nbsp;

• After averaging over 12 kills and digs per match last season, Supernovas outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller has raised her game in 2025.

• Nuneviller currently leads the league in points with 83 through 17 sets. That's made up of 77 kills and six blocks. Plus, she's second in the PVF in points per set with 4.88.&nbsp;

• The Chandler, Arizona native is one of only two players in the league to record a match with 20+ kills and 15+ digs. That was on opening night against Atlanta when she poured in 22 kills and 17 digs while hitting .340.&nbsp;

• The Oregon product has been averaging 19.25 kills and 16.0 digs per match through four contests. Her kill total (77) is first in the PVF while her kills per set (4.53) number is second in the league.&nbsp;

• Nuneviller is fifth in total digs with 64, which is more than five of the eight starting liberos in the PVF. Additionally, her 3.76 digs per set mark is eighth.&nbsp;

The Cooper Curve:&nbsp;Reigning 2024 PVF Rookie of the Year Reagan Cooper has had a solid start to the 2025 season highlighted by her serving game. Cooper has become the best server for the Supernovas recording a team-high five aces and 0.38 per set, which is both third in the league. The second-year pro is on pace to smash her rookie year serving totals when she only had eight aces in 82 sets last year in Columbus. Cooper became the first Supernovas player to put down an ace in three or more consecutive matches since Bethania De&nbsp;La Cruz did so last season. De La Cruz accomplished that feat in seven-straight contests en route to being named the 2024 PVF Server of the Year. The Rowlett, Texas native posted an ace in both the season-opening win over Atlanta and the sweep of Grand Rapids. She followed with two aces against the Thrill last Friday before another ace in the four-set defeat to San Diego on Sunday. Cooper hasn't matched her offensive numbers from last year, but she's still been a big threat with 46 kills and 3.54 kills per set with both stats second on the team.&nbsp;

The former Husker and Nittany Lion leads the PVF in total blocks with 16 while sitting second in blocks per set at 0.94. Hord's seven blocks in the five-set win over the Vibe on opening night set a Supernovas single-match record. Also, she is only one of two players in the PVF to record seven or more blocks in a match this season. The Kentucky native also sits ninth in hitting percentage with a .333 clip through 54 attacks with 21 kills and only three errors.&nbsp;A”Nune"ther Level&nbsp;• After averaging over 12 kills and digs per match last season, Supernovas outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller has raised her game in 2025.• Nuneviller currently leads the league in points with 83 through 17 sets. That's made up of 77 kills and six blocks. Plus, she's second in the PVF in points per set with 4.88.&nbsp;• The Chandler, Arizona native is one of only two players in the league to record a match with 20+ kills and 15+ digs. Additionally, her 3.76 digs per set mark is eighth.&nbsp;The Cooper Curve:&nbsp;Reigning 2024 PVF Rookie of the Year Reagan Cooper has had a solid start to the 2025 season highlighted by her serving game. Cooper has become the best server for the Supernovas recording a team-high five aces and 0.38 per set, which is both third in the league. The second-year pro is on pace to smash her rookie year serving totals when she only had eight aces in 82 sets last year in Columbus. Cooper became the first Supernovas player to put down an ace in three or more consecutive matches since Bethania De&nbsp;La Cruz did so last season. Supernovas Eye Redemption in Matchup Against Fury in Columbus

Head Coach Fred HoibergOn toughness being an issue&nbsp;“I thought we took a huge step in the right direction the last couple of games on the glass and the 50-50 balls, but tonight that was the difference. You have got to get on the ground, you have an opportunity, you can’t just lean over and just try to pick it up with one hand, these guys are too strong, too athletic that we are playing against every night. You have to find a way to get dirty, get grimy and finish off those possessions. We do that and it's a different outcome tonight. We switched up some coverages to force some misses, but we just could not secure the rebound. The biggest thing now. We have to find a way to steal a couple on the road. We have some really good opportunities ahead of us and some very difficult tasks, but we have to stay together. When you're on a streak like we are right now, the human nature is to start questioning and to separate a little bit, but we have to find a way to stay together through this tough time and hopefully get this thing reversed soon. We are going into one of the most difficult places to play in the league on Sunday, a team that is really clicking right now. This USC team is a really talented team. We knew this was going to be a tough game, Muss (Eric Musselman) does a great job, they found a formula we tried to counter with a matchup on the other end and went back-and-forth. They made the plays at the end when they had to.”

On the frustration of losing“They’re all frustrating, anytime you lose, it’s frustrating as hell. You just keep trying to take steps. We took steps in a lot of things tonight, but again it all comes down to loose balls and toughness.”

Brice WilliamsOn tonight’s mistakes“It showed tonight, it showed in my leadership, it showed up in a lot of ways, and when it comes down to winning time you can’t really have certain mistakes. The mistakes we had they have just been compounding from game to game, and that’s why we’re on a streak. It’s going to take for us to stand up and take control, control the narrative, and be tougher.”

On the defensive struggles“They found something that was working for them. We knew what they were going to do, they out-toughed us. We got the stop on the first shot, and then they got the second shot or third shot, or we compounded it with fouls. It was on us tonight – our toughness for 40 minutes.”

On not meeting the team’s standard&nbsp;

“Like Brice (Williams) said, details. We harp on certain things all week, we always have certain key points we always touch on. We knew they were going to play hard. We knew they were a hard-playing team, but at the end of the day like Brice said, it comes to crunch time. We got (Desmond) Claude to miss the shot, and they came in with a rebound and got fouled or a tip dunk, that just can’t happen. I think these last three games, we’ve lost by three or less. It’s tough that we’re on this losing streak right now. In my eyes, we’re one of the better teams in the Big Ten but as of right now it’s not showing.&nbsp; We’re slacking up on certain things, but at the end of the day, it’s business. This is a game we all sign up for, so we’ve got to figure it out. We’ve got to come together within the group, we can’t separate. We’ve got to make sure that we go into the next day of practice and harp on what we need to figure out.”

“Since I got this job, I have been trying to ask ‘Where's the hardest to play on the road?’ This is certainly one of the first programs that comes up. We felt like for us, we couldn't turn the ball over, we couldn't give up threes. Obviously, our ball club is not the biggest team, but I thought we did a really good job on the boards. It was one of our highest games all year of offensive rebounding and scrapping out loose balls. We took pretty good care of the ball against the team that really loads up on the strong side defensively. We found some matchups that we liked with Rashaun (Agee) as a pick-and-pop five. When you look at the stats, you don't think he's a three-point shooter, but we see everything in practice. That's something that we just can't we can’t afford him to pass up threes because he is a good three-point shooter. But Nebraska plays really hard, very well coached. For whatever reason, we've been really good on the road. I think we're three and one on the road, and we have not been very good at home. Otherwise, we'd be in an unbelievable position for March if we had done what we're supposed to do at home. But we haven't done that in the opposing crowds, even in the game here, we lost in Indiana. We led for most of the game. I think we've led for 75% going into tonight's game, 75% of the available minutes of Big 10 play.”

North Platte, Neb.– A 22-point second quarter helps North Platte take down Southeast Community College, 65-50, to open Region IX play on Tuesday night.

Zaily Mazarin capped off a perfect shooting night by going 5-of-5 from the field, while tallying 12 points and two blocks. Madison Cheleen matched her teammate with 12 points by connecting on 4-of-11 from long range.

"It was a great team win tonight,” said head coach Jeff Thurman. “I am proud of our defensive effort and attention to detail tonight.”

North Platte jumped out to a 12-6 lead on a layup by EmmaJo Locks, but Southeast surged back with a 7-1 run over the final 3:14 to tie the game up at 13-13 headed into the second quarter.

Southeast continued their run into the second quarter as they extended their lead to 21-15 with 7:42 to play. North Platte answered by holding the Bobcats scoreless over the next 4:17, while mounting a 16-0 run to take a 31-21 lead on a three by Nariah Golden.

Southeast cut the margin to four inside the final minute, but back-to-back steals from Nariah Golden helped ignite a 4-0 run to extend the margin to 35-27 headed into halftime.

North Platte held Southeast to three points in the opening 7:21 of the third quarter, while stretching their lead to 44-30. Knights continued to maintain a double digit lead the rest of the way to earn the Region IX win.

Knights (11-10) return to Region IX action on Saturday against Central Community College. Tip is set for 2 p.m. inside the Raider Field House in Columbus

Knights Earn Big Win Against Rival Bobcats at Home

North Platte, Neb. – A 50-point second half helped North Platte secure the win over the Bobcats of Southeast Community College on Tuesday night, 88-75.

Trey Summers led the Knights with a team-high 21 points and seven assists, while Mo Diao earned his sixth double-double of the season by finishing the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

"Southeast made some big runs late in the first half, but our guys responded well,” said head coach Jacob Brandl. "I’m super proud with our efforts on the glass tonight.”

The opening moments of the first half featured a back-and-forth battle until the Bobcats offense triggered a 7-0 run. North Platte did not back down as a bucket from Diao ignited a 15-0 rally that pushed the Knights out front. Southeast fought back in the closing minutes to cut the margin to 38-36 headed into the halftime break.

The Bobcats opened the second half with back-to-back buckets to briefly take the lead on a lay in by Chang Deng. The deficit grew to five over the next five minutes, until three-point play from Summers sparked a North Platte 14-0 run.&nbsp;

Knights recorded another run late in the second half to anchor their win, despite Southeast attempting to rally in the closing minutes.

North Platte (12-6) returns to the hardwood on Friday against Lamar Community College. Tip is set for 8 p.m. in Lamar, Colo.

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney head football coach Ryan Held announced today that Ruzell McCoy is the Lopers new linebacker's coach and recruiting coordinator.

Story by UNK Athletic CommunicationsKearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney head football coach Ryan Held announced today that Ruzell McCoy is the Lopers new linebacker's coach and recruiting coordinator.He replaces Jesse Ornelas who recently left to become defensive coordinator at NAIA Central Methodist University (Lafayette, Mo.). Ornelas had been with the Lopers the past two years.&nbsp; ​McCoy spent the 2024 season as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at NAIA Madonna University (Livonia, Mich.). The Crusaders first full football season came just four years ago."I'm very excited to have Ruzell McCoy join our staff. I've known Coach McCoy for many years and all the way back to when I recruited him in 2004," said Held. "He has a wide range of experiences from being a head coach, coordinator and position coach.”An All-American linebacker in his playing days at Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State (Weatherford, Okla.), McCoy has also coached at his alma mater (2019-23), Ellsworth C.C., Iowa (spring 2019), NAIA McPherson College, Kan., Coffeyville C.C., Kan. (2016-17) and Highland C.C., Kan. (2012-13). Held was at coach of the Highland Scotties during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.McCoy served as DC at SWOSU, Ellsworth, McPherson, Coffeyville and Highlands while also working as a defensive line coach (Highland &amp; SWOSU) and linebackers coach (Ellsworth, Coffeyville &amp; Highland). Finally, he was interim head coach at SWOSU during the 2023 season."He'll be a great addition to our staff and will help us continue in our quest to build a consistent winning football program," said Held. "We're fired up to have Coach McCoy and his family join our Loper family."Between 2005-08, the Frederick, Okla., native racked up 238 tackles for the Bulldogs. The total included 44.5 tackles for loss, third most in SWOSU's Division II era. A two-time first-team All-Lone Star Conference (LSC) selection, he also was tabbed the 2008 North Division's Linebacker of the Year. Finally, McCoy was a 2008 first-team Don Hansen Gazette's All-American and SWOSU's Male Athlete of the Year.He holds two degrees from SWOSU, a bachelor's in Parks &amp; Recreation and a master's in Sports Management. McCoy and his wife, Sara, have three children in Kynna, Trey and Zella.&nbsp;UNK is currently going through winter conditioning with spring ball slated to begin on Tuesday, March 25.&nbsp;
