AAA says most states see double-digit pump price drop on the week

The Miss Rodeo Nebraska Association has been closely monitoring the situation with the COVID-19 coronavirus across the state and nation.

On March 15, the CDC released a recommendation that organizers of in-person events, consisting of 50 people or more, cancel or postpone activities throughout the U.S. for eight weeks.

The safety and health of our clinic participants are of the utmost importance to us. At this time, we feel it is in the best interest of everyone to cancel the MRN clinic scheduled for March 28.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-Kids First Preschool in North Platte has announced an extended spring break due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The preschool sent the following message to families:

At that time, we will make a decision as to our plans for the next week. It is not our intention to cause frustration or panic. The North Platte Young Professionals have postponed the Live Event for Big Idea North Platte, which was scheduled to be held at Godfather's Pizza on March 18th. 

Due to recent concerns on slowing the spread of the Coronavirus NPYP has decided to reschedule the event for another date in the future in support of social distancing.

'Big Idea North Platte' event postponed due to coronavirus concerns

LINCOLN –&nbsp;The first community transmitted case of coronavirus disease 2019 was identified in Douglas County yesterday. Today, contact investigations related to cases of COVID-19 in Douglas County also have identified several events and locations in the Omaha area and Sarpy County that could result in potentially high numbers of people exposed in the community and could affect Nebraskans statewide.

People who were at the following locations -&nbsp;<a href="https://www.douglascountyhealth.com/latest-news" target="_blank">https://www.douglascountyhealth.com/latest-news&nbsp;</a>&nbsp;-&nbsp;during the time frames mentioned should self monitor for the development symptoms that include a fever, cough, shortness of breath and in some cases a sore throat.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“We are monitoring the situation for a second community-acquired case, said Dr. Gary Anthone, Chief Medical Officer and Director of Public Health for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). “The number of exposures associated with these events is potentially very high and may be beyond the ability for public health to continue to do complete contact tracing as we have been able to do up until this point.

“We need your help. DHHS is advising Nebraskans to stay home if they're experiencing any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses including fever, cough, shortness of breath and in some cases a sore throat. By staying home you protect those in your community."

Social distancing and taking other actions to slow the spread of COVID-19 is critical. Slowing the spread of the virus will help decrease the potential strain on health care providers and facilities and help ensure care for those who may need it.

As we've already seen in some areas, Nebraskans should continue to expect closures and cancellations in their communities as we work to slow the spread of COVID-19. People experiencing symptoms who are concerned they may have COVID-19 should self-isolate and call ahead to their primary care provider to be screened over the phone. Public health officials, health care providers, and laboratories are working daily to increase Nebraska's capacity to test more people for COVID-19.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Currently, testing supplies are limited and testing is only being done on people who have symptoms.

DENVER (CDPHE)-Due to the extensive spread of COVID-19 in a number of mountain resort communities, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) strongly recommends that anyone who lives in or has visited those communities in the past week minimize their contact with other people, in order to reduce the spread of the virus.&nbsp;

Anyone who has been in Eagle, Summit, Pitkin, or Gunnison counties in the past week should minimize all contact with other people, whether or not they are experiencing symptoms.

If you are experiencing symptoms (cough, fever, and shortness of breath, you must be isolated for at least 7-10 days after the onset of symptoms. It is only safe to leave isolation if your symptoms are improving and you don't have a fever for 72 hours immediately prior to the end of your isolation. Isolation may be longer for individuals who have more severe illness or who work in high-risk occupations like health care.

CDPHE recommends that residents and visitors of the affected communities take the following actions:&nbsp;

It is only safe to leave isolation if your symptoms are improving and you don't have a fever for 72 hours immediately prior to the end of your isolation. Currently, testing supplies are limited. Local, state, and federal partners are working to expand testing supplies and the ability to promptly&nbsp;test people experiencing symptoms.&nbsp;

Due to testing limitations, health care providers and local health departments are screening people to prioritize testing for those who based&nbsp;on symptoms and exposure history have the highest likelihood of having COVID-19 including:

DHHS releases important COVID-19 testing resources for people and providers

After discussions with local public health officials, state representatives, and other regional school partners, Mid-Plains Community College will be cancelling classes Monday, March 16, through Saturday, March 28 in our continued effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the communities within our service area. The initial plan was to hold classes this week and then close March 22-April 4, but continued developments and discussions over the weekend required us to adjust and it is our intent to create as little disruption to the educational process as reasonable. Online classes will continue as scheduled. Faculty and staff will report accordingly as we prepare for remote delivery of courses. Residence halls and food service will remain open during this time for those students that are unable to return home.&nbsp;

Applied tech courses and other courses with required labs will resume on campus on Sunday March 29. There will be some exceptions based on certain programs so students are encouraged to communicate with their instructors about the adjusted expectations and format of their courses moving forward. &nbsp;

Dual credit and early entry students taking courses at one of MPCC’s campuses should check with their college instructors on upcoming changes. McCook Public Schools announce extended spring break

HERSHEY, Neb.-At this point, Hershey Public Schools are still planning to have school this week.&nbsp;

A letter posted on the school's website says they are monitoring the situation and are asking parents to keep students who are not feeling well at home.

Hershey Public Schools is monitoring the developing information related to the spread of COVID-19 (commonly referred to as the coronavirus).&nbsp; To date, we are aware of COVID-19 cases in Nebraska and the multiple school districts that have closed across the state.&nbsp;

Hershey Public Schools has policies and procedures in place and we are confident that we are prepared to respond to any outbreak of communicable disease that may occur. We will also be working with the West Central District Health Department and the Nebraska Department of Education on this situation. Lexington Public School closed until further notice

OMAHA-Two new cases of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, have been confirmed in Douglas County residents, including one that was announced Saturday, March 14, as being under investigation. The Douglas County Health Department has continued an extensive contact investigation and determined there also are additional public exposures.

One of these individuals, a woman in her 40s, traveled and was exposed to an earlier confirmed case. The other person, a woman in her 30s, was involved in the Special Olympics basketball tournament in Fremont at the end of February.

The additional public exposures occurred during the following times.

Monday, March 2 at Walmart on 120th Street from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m.

Tuesday, March 3 at Walmart on 180th and Wright form 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

· Walmart on 120th Street from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

· The bus from Barrett’s Barleycorn Pub and Grill at 4322 Leavenworth to the Creighton basketball game against Georgetown.

· The Creighton-Georgetown basketball game at CHI Health Center.

· Patty McGown’s, 45th and Center after the game from 9:30 to 11:30.

· Walmart at 168th and West Maple from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Thursday, March 5, the Walmart at 11350 Wickersham Blvd. in Gretna from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

DCHD epidemiologists will continue contact investigations with everyone who is a confirmed COVID-19 case. The county now has 16 confirmed cases including one traveler, but not including anyone brought to Nebraska Medicine’s Quarantine or Biocontainment Units.

DCHD’s information line remains open to anyone with general questions about COVID-19. That number, (402) 444-3400, is answered weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Any person who has questions outside those hours is asked to call the United Way’s 2-1-1 Resource Hotline.

Douglas County epidemiologists are assisting Virginia with the Public Health investigation of a business traveler from that state who was in Omaha on business to determine if any action is needed.

North Platte Catholic Schools officials have now announced they will be temporarily closing their schools.

At this time, the West Central District has NO confirmed cases of the virus however in response to community health and safety concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, the decision has been made to close the North Platte Catholic Schools for the next week (March 16th - March 20th). This includes all scheduled school and non-school events, practices, and competitions.

The announcement was made to staff and families through the following email:

As we have mentioned, the COVID-19 virus is an ever-changing conversation and invokes a great deal of discussion and collaboration with our federal, state, and local health officials.&nbsp; At this time, the West Central District has NO confirmed cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19); however, testing for the virus is ongoing.

We would like to provide you with a timeline of events that have occurred over the past few days.

10:00 a.m. – Conference Call with Governor Ricketts and State Health Officials

1:30 p.m. – Conference Call with Nebraska Department of Education

2:30 p.m. – In person meeting with West Central District Health Department (WCDHD, local emergency departments, and Great Plains Health

4:15 p.m. – Press conference with the task force

7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. – District Directors and Executive Staff Planned strategies for educational engagement during a closure.

2:00 p.m. – Principals, Directors, Executive Staff, and WCDHD met in person for a conference call with the Nebraska Department of Education, State Health Officials, and Governor Ricketts

Our primary concern at this time is preventative and precautionary measures.&nbsp; We will continue to encourage our families to practice social distancing and proper hygiene and hand-washing.&nbsp; With this being said, NPPSD will implement an extended break for the balance of the week of March 16.&nbsp; All NPPSD schools are closed the week of March 16, 2020, with plans to reopen on Monday, March 23, 2020.&nbsp; During this time, staff and the community will not have access to any academic building.&nbsp; This decision will extend our school year to May 27, 2020, for students (more information will follow as it becomes available).

We do realize surrounding schools are closed for two full weeks.&nbsp; Please note they are combining this with a pre-planned spring break.
