NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The Sutherland 86th Annual Rodeo is set to begin July 1st. The four day festivities has events for everyone to enjoy. The rodeo is scheduled for July 3rd and July 4th in Sutherland. 86 years for this four day event brings the community together to have a great time. "It's a great family function as we have all sorts in the whole community of Sutherland that the whole family can come," said Janet Mueller. "Some events are on July 1st and 2nd, but the main things are on the 3rd and the 4th."

This year, the rodeo committee is happy to announce there are over 500 entries between the two events and for folks who are bull riding fans, there are 30 contestants who will be competing. There will also be a rodeo clown who will be performing an act both nights of the rodeo. Before the rodeo start at 7, there will be kid races and later in the evening there will be a calf scramble for both kids and adults.&nbsp;

The rodeo is&nbsp; Monday and Tuesday and tickets are $10 for Adults, Children Ages 6-12 are $5, and lastly kids under 5 get in for free. For a full list of times and events for the four day festivals, check the graphic below.&nbsp;

Paxton Gordon sat down with North Platte Plainsmen owner Chuck Heeman to discuss upcoming events for the Plainsmen.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The North Platte Plainsmen second season is underway here in North Platte. The Plainsmen bring a family fun entertainment to North Platte with high quality baseball featuring college players from all around the United States, fun promotion nights, games for kids, and so much more. Chuck Heeman, owner of the Plainsmen, has been in the baseball business for a long time and knows how to bring family fun entertainment to the town.&nbsp;

For the second season, the Plainsmen have dealt with rain for a good chunk of the first half of the season. "I have never seen the spring rains go so long into June and it's really just thrown our schedule all over the place," said North Platte Plainsmen Owner Chuck Heeman. "It looks like we have some good summer weather coming, so 4th of July weekend is looking to be spectacular." So far this season, the Plainsmen have had a handful of postponements or games delayed/called due to the rain.&nbsp;

The North Platte Plainsmen are gearing to get the second half of their season underway. The team has many events comings that the family can enjoy. The Plainsmen also will be hosting a 4th of July game against the United States Military War Dogs. The War Dogs is a group of veterans who get together during the spring to train for the season and then travel around the United States playing Major, Minor, and Summer Colligate teams. Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol will be working hard to keep Nebraska roadways safe and help motorists in need of an assist.

“Nebraska communities are full of awesome Fourth of July celebrations, and we want everyone to be safe as they travel this weekend,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “If your party involves alcohol, make sure to plan for a sober driver. Make safe decisions and have a great Independence Day.”

AAA is predicting a record number of travelers this weekend, with millions traveling more than 50 miles to reach their destination. NSP urges all motorists to make plans to ensure a sober ride, such as designating a driver, using a rideshare, calling a cab, or taking advantage of programs like AAA’s Tow to Go, which is available all weekend by calling 855-2-TOW-2-GO.

Troopers and dispatchers will be working overtime across the state thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office. The special effort runs from June 30 through July 5.

Between July 10th and July 31st, The North Platte Police Department in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be teaming up with other Law Enforcement agencies to keep drivers and passengers safe, raising awareness of the risks of speeding and reminding drivers to obey speed limits.&nbsp; Additional North Platte Police Officers will be on the streets, with the aim of holding speeding drivers accountable.&nbsp; If Officers see you speeding, you could be pulled over and fined.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to the Traffic and Safety Administration, in 2021 there were 12,330 people killed in speeding related crashes.&nbsp; Speeding can reduce a driver’s ability to negotiate curves or maneuver around obstacles in the roadway.&nbsp; Speeding also cuts down on the driver’s reaction time giving them less time to react to roadway hazards.&nbsp; The North Platte Police Department asks you to obey the speed limits before speeding Catches Up With You.&nbsp;

Gothenburg, NE — A Nebraska-based startup is developing a new fertilizer production facility that will be&nbsp; in Gothenburg. This domestic supply will reduce costs for farmers in the region and produce "zero-carbon"&nbsp; ammonia.&nbsp;

The Meadowlark Project took several years to develop and is at an advanced stage. JWC Gburg, LLC has&nbsp; secured a building site, key engineering and technology contracts, green electricity supply, liquified CO2,&nbsp; and wastewater input sources.&nbsp;

Initial project financing was secured in 2021, with rounds of grant, equity, debt, and tax incentives on the&nbsp; immediate horizon, including participating in the Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri joint “Midcontinent&nbsp; Hydrogen Hub” application to the Department of Energy (DOE).&nbsp;

“The Meadowlark Project builds on Nebraska’s long tradition of innovation in agriculture. This project will&nbsp; more sustainably produce high-quality fertilizer right here in our state, reducing our reliance on foreign&nbsp; imports and transportation delays,” said Governor Jim Pillen. “This plant comes at a critical time for us to&nbsp; add high-paying jobs and lower farmers’ costs in this region of our State.””&nbsp;

The plant will achieve net negative emissions through a zero-carbon production process that utilizes&nbsp; liquified CO2, reduces transportation-generated emissions from current import requirements, and&nbsp; produces emissions-reducing fuel additives as a byproduct.&nbsp;

Cody Thomas, Nebraska State PatrolJUNE 29, 2023 (LINCOLN, NEB.)&nbsp;&nbsp;— Independence Day weekend brings fireworks to the sky and vehicles to the road as many people travel to be with family and friends to celebrate America. Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol will be working hard to keep Nebraska roadways safe and help motorists in need of an assist.“Nebraska communities are full of awesome Fourth of July celebrations, and we want everyone to be safe as they travel this weekend,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “If your party involves alcohol, make sure to plan for a sober driver. Make safe decisions and have a great Independence Day.”AAA is predicting a record number of travelers this weekend, with millions traveling more than 50 miles to reach their destination. NSP urges all motorists to make plans to ensure a sober ride, such as designating a driver, using a rideshare, calling a cab, or taking advantage of programs like AAA’s Tow to Go, which is available all weekend by calling 855-2-TOW-2-GO.Troopers and dispatchers will be working overtime across the state thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office. North Platte— Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol Tech Crimes Unit, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the North Platte Police Department, have arrested two North Platte men after a child exploitation investigation.

Tuesday, NSP performed a search warrant at the residence of 2017 West 5th&nbsp;Street, in North Platte. The search of the residence involved a child exploitation investigation.

The residents, Christopher L. Rader-Schmidt, 54, and Brandon K. Rader-Schmidt, 19, were both arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography.&nbsp; Both men were lodged in Lincoln County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.

In total, 10 businesses were checked. All of the businesses refused to sell alcohol to a minor for a 100% compliance rate. All of the businesses checked the minor’s ID.

The businesses included convenience stores, grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, liquor stores, and bars. This project was supported in whole or part by grant #93.959 under the SAMHSA Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, Region II Human Services, and the Nebraska DHHS Division of Behavioral Health.

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – NebraskaLand Day’s 2023 has officially come to a conclusion after this past Saturday’s Jason Aldean concert. For NebraskaLand Day’s, attendance was up for both the Historic Buffalo Bill Rodeo and the Viaero Wireless Sumer Jam Concert Series. The Buffalo Bill Rodeo took place from June 14th – June 17th and the Viaero Wireless Summer Jam Concert Series was June 24th and June 25th. NebraskaLand Day’s Executive Director David Fudge reported that the rodeo attendance was up 11% from 2022 while the concerts attendance was up 20% from 2022 with folks coming from all over the region. &nbsp;

Severe thunderstorm watch issued for area until 10pm tonight

On June 26th&nbsp;2023 at 4:54 pm, officers responded to the 300 block of South Bailey St for reports of a victim with a gun shot wound. Once on scene, officers made contact with a 32 year old male who was identified as the victim. During the investigation, officers learned that the shooting occurred in the 200 block of North McCabe and that the victim had driven himself to the South Bailey area. Officers also learned that 39 year old Ross Rivera was the other party involved in the shooting.

Officers then responded to the residence in the 200 block of North McCabe and utilized their Patrol Units PA system to contact the resident. The individual that exited the home was not Rivera. A search warrant was obtained and a search of the building was conducted. During the search, officers located two holes next to the front door. Officers also found a 40 caliber handgun along with two spent cartridges but did not locate Rivera. Officers were able to contact Rivera later that day and took him into custody without issue. Rivera was initially incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center on the charge of Possession of a Weapon by a Prohibited Person. The charges of 2nd&nbsp;Degree Assault and Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony were added the next day.

JUNE 26, 2023 (GRAND ISLAND, NEB.)&nbsp;&nbsp;— 42 high school students got the chance to train like a trooper last week at the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy. The cadets were all part of the 53rd&nbsp;Junior Law Academy, which gives high school seniors-to-be a glimpse of what it takes to be a Nebraska State Trooper.

"Junior Law is a great opportunity for high school juniors considering a career in law enforcement to experience part of the training our recruits go through,” said Captain Andy Ecklund, Commander of the NSP Training Academy. “The cadets worked hard last week and showed that they have what it takes to make a difference. Most of these cadets will go on to serve others in their careers and we’d love to see them again in a few years ready to join the Nebraska State Patrol.”

Last week, 26 boys and 16 girls graduated from the 53rd&nbsp;Junior Law Academy. Several of the cadets received awards for their excellent performances during the week.

Several current Nebraska State Troopers are graduates of Junior Law.

Applications for the 54th&nbsp;Junior Law Academy, scheduled for June 2024, will be made available in the coming months at the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.nebraskalegion.net/Programs/JRLaw.html" target="_blank">American Legion website</a>. The academy is open to boys and girls who are preparing for their senior year of high school.

NORTH PLATTE, NEB – Union Pacific announced over the weekend they have sold out of tickets to take a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride in the cab of Big Boy NO. 4014. The fundraiser is being put on by the Union Pacific Railroad Museum. &nbsp;

Union Pacific originally was auctioning off a ticket to the winner with the highest bid but was forced to change due to the bidder having “manipulated” the auction process in a statement released by Union Pacific. Union Pacific instead sold two tickets at $9,500 a piece that went on sale Friday at 5 p.m. and they sold out very quickly.&nbsp;

The once in a lifetime experience&nbsp;will take place from Pine Bluffs, Wyoming to Cheyenne, Wyoming on July 3rd. The train ride will take about an hour to complete. All proceeds are going towards the Union Pacific Railroad Museum.&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, NEB - The North Platte Student Council is hosting a 2 Man Golf Scramble July 7th at the Rivers Edge Golf Course with the proceeds going to the Royal Family Kids Camp. "This year, our proceeds are going to the Royal Family Kids Camp and this Royal Family Kids Camp is a program that serves elementary school aged foster children in the North Platte and surrounding area," said NPHS Student Council President Gracie Persinger.

The event cost $40 which includes a meal and golf. The meal includes a cheeseburger, chips, and a drink. The meal will be served from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. with the golf scramble to begin at 5 p.m. central time.
