Colleen J. Dolan, 78, of Gibbon went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Mother Hull Home in Kearney, Nebraska

Colleen was born March 19, 1946, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska to Frank and Gladys (Sheldon) Denson; the youngest of 6 children.

She grew up in Overton graduating with the class of 1964. She married Bob Dolan on January 21, 1966, in Overton, Nebraska and were married for 49 years. This union was blessed with 3 children: Christi, Mark, and Chad.

Collie worked at Plectron Corporation in Overton, Superior Engineering in Kearney, Ammunition Depot in Grand Island, and Tri County Hospital in Lexington where she retired. While at Tri County Hospital she was the recipient of the Caring Kind Award.

While in Overton, Collie was a member of the Overton Christian Church for over 50 years where she served as Sunday School Teacher and on the Church board for several years. She was also active on the Overton Housing Authority and Overton School Board. Following retirement Bob and Collie moved to Gibbon. While in Gibbon she was a member and active in the Gibbon United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Christi and husband David Sines of Gibbon; Son Chad and wife Jamie Dolan of Gibbon; granddaughter Kati Snider of Henderson; Grandsons Matthew Dolan of Gibbon, and Mitch Dolan of Gibbon; Sister Joyce Shatters of Kearney; special son Barry and wife Gena Carpenter and their family of Overton; Daughter-In-Law Amy and Lance Guigler of Kearney. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was met at heaven’s gate by husband Bob; Son Mark Dolan; her parents; Brothers Bill and his wife Alice Denson, Ralph and wife Micky Denson; Sisters Mildred and husband Frances William, Mary Sikyta, and Brother-in-Law Russ Shatters.

It was Collie’s wish for cremation. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 23rd, at 10:30 am at the Gibbon United Methodist Church in Gibbon with Chad Dolan and Pastor Jean Mark-Mutwale officiating. A luncheon will be served following the service at the church. Graveside Burial services will be at 2:30 P.M. at the Overton Cemetery in Overton.

Colleen Dolan (1946-2024)

Vernelle M. Schultz, 92, passed away August 14, 2024 in Elkhorn, NE where she had resided since 2017. She was born on August 5, 1932 at her Grandpa and Grandma Brestel’s ranch north of Moorefield, NE, to Harry V. Mercer and Ardath M. (Brestel) Mercer. The family lived in the Moorefield/Brady area and Vernelle attended grade school at the Sleepy Hollow country school. She completed high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis and after completing Normal Teacher Training she taught school at the Sleepy Hollow country school.

Vernelle married Ivan G. Schultz on April 7, 1951 in McCook, NE and this union was blessed with six children, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren during their 53 years of marriage. They bought a farm north of Moorefield where they raised cattle and farmed. Vernelle worked at the Moorefield Central Telephone office and the Post Office while taking care of her family. In 1963, they sold the farm and moved to Curtis after purchasing the Gambles Hardware Store. In 1971, Vernelle went to work at the Medicine Valley High School as the Kitchen Manager until retiring in 1992.

Vernelle was a member of the Curtis United Methodist Church and active in the Methodist Women’s Club and Circle. She was a past member of P.E.O. and belonged to a Bridge club and Pinochle Club. She also enjoyed playing pitch and volunteering at the Senior Center. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. and her kids and grandkids looked forward to her homemade chicken and noodles, Angel Food cakes, and jars of homemade jams and jellies. She always raised a big garden and was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many prom and bridesmaid dresses, baby blankets and quilts. Vernelle never missed a family member or friend’s birthday and always sent a card.

Vernelle moved to Elkhorn, NE in 2017 to be closer to her children. She enjoyed the friendships she developed at Elk Ridge Senior Living and favorite activities included Bingo, playing cards, completing puzzles and watching Husker football and volleyball games. She moved to Brookestone Meadows Care Center in 2023.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, brothers Virgil, Gerald(Elfreide) and Kelly(Evelyn), and sister Eleanor.

Survivors include her children: Teresa(Sid)Porter, Rodney(Jeani)Schultz, Barbara(Mark)Vreeland, Sandra(Terry)Peterson, Michael(Adelheid)Schultz and Patricia(Rik)Weiss.

Grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jessica(Daniel)Nelson and children Connor, Eli and Josie, Reese(Katie)Porter and children Calvin and Maxwell, Justin Schultz, Daniel Schultz, Brooke(Bennett)Williams and children Scottie and Monroe, Lisa(Mike)Treadway and children Michael and Alex, Sean Vreeland, Derek(Ellie)Peterson and children Rory Peterson and Rylee Anderson, Dustin(Kerrie)Peterson and children Carter, Claire, Cate and Cora, Noah and Christian Schultz and Carson, Nolan, Kenny and Tommy Weiss.

She is also survived by her brother, Bob (MaryAnn) Mercer, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sid and Kathy Schultz and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen. Services will be held at a later date with inurnment at Moorefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Curtis Senior Center, Curtis Community Center or the Methodist Church of Curtis.

Mr. Joseph "Joe" Scano, age 72, of McCook Nebraska passed away at his home in McCook on August 14, 2024.

Joseph was born in Bronx, New York on February 21, 1952 to parents Joseph C. and Joy D. (Emery) Scano.&nbsp;

Joe worked in the medical transport industry until his retirement.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Scano Jr. and by his parents.

He is survived by one brother, Anthony Scano of Haines Falls, New York.

Cathy Lubben, 82, of McCook, NE, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Born on September 30, 1941, at St Catherine’s Hospital in McCook, Cathy was the daughter of the late Floyd and Helen Bailey. Cathy grew up in Palisade, NE and graduated from Palisade High School in 1959.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cathy married her lifelong love, Writer Ray (Raymond Tyler Lubben) in 1960 in Palisade, NE. Together they raised two girls, Sharon and Kathleen. Cathy was a devoted wife and mother and was thankful for every moment of the adventure called life.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She spent her working days as a CPA’s assistant, tax reviewer, bookkeeper and administrative assistant. In her free time, Cathy was an avid reader. She always had a large collection of romance and mystery novels. She used to stock books at Twice Told Tales in Idaho in trade for books of her choice. She also loved gardening (vegetables and flowers alike), playing cards and games with family and friends and watching Nebraska football and volleyball. Go Big Red!

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cathy’s warmth, kindness, quick smile and laughter enriched the lives of many. When life threw challenges her way, she was still a trooper and a positive force in the world. She had a car accident in her 50’s which created a ruptured disc in her back, impacting her for the rest of her life. Through that and other challenges, she kept her&nbsp;warm, positive disposition and always had kind words for friends and strangers. She left a trail of good feelings wherever she went.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cathy is survived by her children, Sharon Holmes of Palisade, NE and Kathleen Brotherton of Austin, TX; her grandchildren Katrina Giles of Austin TX, Eden Brotherton of Austin, TX, Jennifer Holmes Newton and husband Michael of Buffalo, NY, Peter Holmes of York, NE and Matthew Holmes and Kirstin Anderjaska of Lincoln, NE; and her 2 adored great-grandchildren, Wyatt Giles and Donovan Newton. She is also survived by her brothers Jon (Joyce) Bailey, Phil (Sandy) Bailey, sister-in-law’s Connie Bailey and Jan Bailey Hinrichsen.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Helen Bailey and her brothers Tom and Steve Bailey and husband Writer Ray.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen. There will be no ceremony. She and Writer Ray will be united at Ft McPherson, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; In lieu of flowers, Cathy requests that donations be made to the McCook Fire Department’s ambulance squad in her memory, who took great care of her many times.

James Lewis Cooper, 81, of North Platte passed away August 14, 2024 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;He was born November 11, 1942 to Lewis and Florence (Gillette) Cooper in Sioux City, Iowa.

James was raised by his grandparents Ray and Bertha Cooper in North Platte. &nbsp;He worked for Simons for several years and hired on with Union Pacific Railroad in 1969 as a carman, retiring in 2002. &nbsp;James married Carol Janulewicz on April 27, 1963 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

James enjoyed going to auctions, collecting cookie jars and salt and pepper shakers. &nbsp;He also enjoyed going to stockcar races. &nbsp;James raised cattle and liked going to county fairs. &nbsp;He liked watching the western channel and enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Joy was born to Frank Vern and Bertha Jane (Barnes) McCallum on September 16, 1926 at the McCallum Ranch north of Wauneta, NE. &nbsp;She grew up on the ranch, and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1943. &nbsp;

Joy was married to Richard Otis Cowles in 1947. Together they had 2 daughters, Peggy and Cindy. Joy was actively involved in her daughters' activities, including being on the Guardian Council of Job's Daughters. She worked in the bank and in offices as a bookkeeper. In 1972 the family moved to Trenton, NE where she worked in a tax preparation office and later ran a tax preparation business. She was an active member of the Wauneta Methodist Church and Trenton Congregational Church. Joy enjoyed serving on the election board in both communities. Joy was a very good cook and was especially known for her homemade pies and cinnamon rolls. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.&nbsp;

Joy was predeceased by her parents, Vern and Bertha, and her husband of 63 years, "Dick".&nbsp;

Those left to cherish Joy's memory are her daughters Peggy (Rand) Levy of Champion, NE, and Cindy (Tim) Litz of North Platte; grandchildren Jamie (Matt) Nutt, Jordan Warner, Mick (Taylor) Litz, and Angie (Jon) Gamble; great grandchildren Coby Uhlig, Braxton, Breelynn, Kinsley and Stetson Litz; brother Clint (Betty) McCallum of Wauneta, and special friend Mary Hepburn.&nbsp;

Chance Maret, age 27, passed away in Gothenburg Memorial Hospital surrounded by family on August 10, 2024.

Chance was born in Cambridge, NE on August 26, 1996, to parents Stacy Maret and Ronda Marsh. He grew up with 5 siblings and graduated from Southwest High School in 2015.&nbsp;

Chance loved writing, playing video games, and listening to music. Chance had a passion for writing, video games, and music. He found joy in the thrill of a good scary movie and the tranquility of camping under the stars. He was a big fan of the Oakland Raiders and going on country drives.&nbsp; Chance was a family man. He made time for those he loved, whether it was walking his dog with his mom, sharing stories with friends, or just being there when someone needed a listening ear. His warmth, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Helen C. Young, age 95 of Kearney, formerly of Ansley, died August 9, 2024, at the Mother Hull Care Home in Kearney.

Helen Carolyn (Cherry) Young was born January 4, 1929, in Pleasanton, NE to Frank and Anna (Supanchick) Cherry. Helen grew up in the Central Nebraska area. Helen was at a dance where she met her future husband, Walter Young. The couple was married on February 15, 1947, in Broken Bow. They were engaged in farming and later owned and operated a grain elevator, Central Feed and Grain, in Ansley and Mason City. Through their business, they received several national honors.

The couple bought their dream home west of Ansley. Helen and Walter enjoyed going to their cabin at Sherman Lake, where she enjoyed fishing. Helen also enjoyed collecting Antique furniture and dishes, canning, sewing, and raising chickens. Helen continued to live west of Ansley but did sell the cabin after Walter’s death in 1993, Helen was a member of the Christian Church in Ansley, where she was a youth group leader and Sunday School teacher.

In 2019, Helen sold her home and moved to Assisted Living in Kearney, then later to Mother Hull where she enjoyed playing Bingo where she liked to win.

Helen is survived by daughters Sandy Rash of Kearney, and Sheri (Craig) Meyer of Arizona, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Norma Cherry of Kearney, and brother-in-law Royce Smith of Oregon.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Anna, husband Walter, three sisters Deloris Smith, Ethel McAlevy, and Clarena Overholser, and two brothers Everett Cherry and Vern Cherry.

Leland “Lee” R. Miller, age 75, of Culbertson, NE passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Lee was born May 3, 1949, in McCook, NE to parents Raymond A. and Alma Katherine (Frick) Miller. He was one of five siblings who attended school in Culbertson, graduating with the Class of 1967. Lee then attended UNL for two years.&nbsp;

Lee enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from May of 1970 to December of 1971.

On December 12, 1975, Lee married Barbara J. (Blume) Miller in McCook. The couple made their home in Culbertson and were blessed with three daughters.&nbsp;

Lee was employed by the Village of Culbertson and in his free time, he enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, golfing, gardening and yardwork, working with his hands and renovating houses. He was a founding member of the Culbertson 4th of July Celebration and a member of the Culbertson Volunteer Fire Department. Lee’s family was his pride and joy. Over the years Lee and Barb enjoyed attending their kids and grandkids many sporting and school events.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers in law, Jerry Kotschwar, Cliff Rigg and Mike Elgert.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Barb Miller of Culbertson, NE; daughters, Lesa (Mike) Tines of Culbertson, NE, Jenny (Jeff) Baker of Pender, NE and Laura Miller of South Sioux City, NE; sisters, Ramona Kotschwar of Culbertson, NE, Kasey Elgert, Jo Bunstock and Deb Gilliland, all of Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren and a host of lifelong friends.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp; Doretta J (McBride) Anderson was born in Imperial, Nebraska on May 30, 1941 to Robert and Lola (Stinnette) McBride. Doretta passed away Monday,&nbsp; August 12, 2024. She was 83 years old.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Doretta attended school in Wauneta, Nebraska and graduated high school with the class of 1958. Doretta then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where she studied business. Doretta married Harold “Peco” Anderson on February 13, 1960. To this union two sons were born, Andrew R. and Hugh L.&nbsp; Doretta was employed by the Village of Wauneta for over 40 years. Peco and Doretta enjoyed spending time together road tripping to various casinos throughout the country. They also enjoyed attending Husker football games. Most of all, they dearly loved attending their grandsons’ events throughout the years. Doretta had passion for reading books, completing sudoku and crossword puzzles, spending time in her garden and volunteering at the Wauneta Senior Center.

Doretta Anderson (1941-2024)

JARED T. SATTERFIELD, 43, of Ogallala, passed away on August 8, 2024.

Jared Satterfield was born in Provo, Utah, on August 16, 1980, to Todd and Jennifer (Gross) Satterfield. He graduated from Sarasota High School in Florida with the Class of 1999.

On July 30, 2005, Jared was united in marriage to Julie Walker. The couple would make their home in Firestone, Colorado, where Jared worked in insulation sales for many years, specializing in new construction projects throughout the Denver area. The Satterfields enjoyed spending weekends at Lake McConaughy, eventually purchasing a home there and moving to Ogallala three years ago.

Jared was known for his quiet, witty demeanor, often marked by his dry, sarcastic humor. He loved speaking in movie quotes, being at the lake, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. Though he was reserved and preferred the background to the spotlight, he was fiercely loyal to his friends. He cherished his family deeply. In 2012, Jared gave his life to Jesus, which was the best thing he ever did.

Jared was preceded in death by his mother, Jennifer Rauchfuss, and his grandmother, Judith Gross.

Survivors include his wife and daughter, Julie and Kate Satterfield of Ogallala; his father, Todd Satterfield; his siblings, Jon Satterfield, Graham (Marty) Satterfield, and Jenee (Josh) Reynolds; his aunt, Julie Becker; his cousin, Jenna Crofts; his best friend and brother of the heart, Jeremy Wilhelm; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, and friends.

The Satterfields enjoyed spending weekends at Lake McConaughy, eventually purchasing a home there and moving to Ogallala three years ago.Jared was known for his quiet, witty demeanor, often marked by his dry, sarcastic humor. He loved speaking in movie quotes, being at the lake, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. Though he was reserved and preferred the background to the spotlight, he was fiercely loyal to his friends. He cherished his family deeply. &nbsp; &nbsp; Sherry Waline (Weber) Cotton, age 88, passed peacefully into heaven surrounded by all her children on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. She was a caring, faithful person loved by all who had the joy of knowing her.

Born on February 24, 1936, in McCook, Nebraska to Walter &amp; Lucille (Wagner) Weber, she spent her youth in McCook attending various primary schools before graduating from McCook High School in 1954.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Sherry married her first husband in the fall of 1954 in McCook, Nebraska and worked at Hestad’s Variety Store, Sears, and was the bookkeeper for McCook Packing Plant. After 11 years this marriage ended.

&nbsp; &nbsp; On November 18, 1965, Sherry married Paul Cotton in McCook and became a loving mother to his three children Dale, Judy and Jane. To this union were born three additional children, David, Patricia, and Sonya. The family lived on a farm south of McCook until moving to Missouri in 1967, settling in Coffey, Missouri in 1971. She was a homemaker who also enjoyed watching several of the neighborhood children. Sherry loved cooking and baking and was well known in the community for her cinnamon rolls. She spent time in many kitchens over the years having owned Cotton’s Café, cooking at the Gallatin Senior Center, Coffey School, McCook Senior Center, and Kinship Pointe. She also enjoyed volunteering and delivered meals on wheels, drove the Handi bus, and made lap blankets for the elderly.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Through the entirety of her life, Sherry was very strong in her faith and lived her life devoted to God. She read her bible every day and attended church every Sunday for as long as she was able.

&nbsp; &nbsp; One of Sherry’s greatest loves was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and traveling with her sister, Jean Elley. Over the years Sherry lived near her family in Missouri, Iowa, and ended up returning to McCook, Nebraska in 2018.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Sherry was preceded in death by her Husband; Parents; Sister, Genevieve Kuck, Sisters-in-law, Lucille Stitt, Juanita Weber, and Henrietta Weber; Brothers-in-law, Bruce Kuck, Glen Stitt, and Bill Elley; Nephews, Tim Elley, Bob Fouts, and Keith Weber.

Sherry W. Cotton (1936-2024)

Janice Jorgenson, 83, of Gothenburg, NE, peacefully passed away at Hilltop Estates, surrounded by her loving family on August 11, 2024. She was born in Holdrege, Nebraska, on September 6, 1940, to her parents Harlan and Velda Welch.

Janice's journey of life was filled with profound experiences and meaningful connections. She attended District 29, south of Cozad, and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1958. Janice embarked on her professional career at Paulsen Building and Supply after high school. Janice's most important and rewarding job was being a full time mother and farm wife. When her children got older she transitioned to working at Parker Hannifin.

On March 5, 1961, at Cozad Parkview Methodist Church, Janice exchanged vows with the love of her life, Gary Jorgenson; their union was blessed with five children: Robert, Barbara, Bradly, Brent and Bryce. Janice's devotion to her family was immeasurable, and her legacy will forever live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She cherished the relationships she cultivated throughout her life, including her involvement with the Etna/New Hope and Rock Island Extension Clubs, and her active participation in the DORCUS Society in New Hope community, and at Cornerstone Bible church, where she shared her musical talents by playing the organ for many years.

Janice is survived by her husband Gary, children, Robert (Jill), Bradly (Elizabeth), Brent (Carie), Bryce (Becky), 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two more on the way, two brothers, Jerry Welch, and Joe (Rose) Welch, two brothers-in-law, Charles (Cindy) Jorgenson and Neil (Suzie) Jorgenson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice was proceeded in death by her parents, Harlan and Velda Welch, and her daughter Barbara Nelson, sister-in-law Pat Welch and brother-in-law Richard (Molly) Jorgenson.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 1:00-7:00-pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.&nbsp;

Janice Jorgenson (1940-2024)

Marjorie M. (Smith) Schneider, 89, of Callaway, NE died peacefully August 10, 2024 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, NE surrounded by her family. Marjorie was born July 8, 1935 in Kearney, NE to James and Bessie (Vangreen) Smith of rural Callaway. She was named for Marjorie (Stryker) Edgington, a country school teacher who had boarded with her parents. Marjorie attended Sand Valley Country School through 8th grade across the road from the farm where she lived since age eight, west of Callaway. She then attended Callaway High School where she graduated in 1952 as Valedictorian. Having taken normal teacher training during high school, Marjorie taught at a country school west of Callaway for a year after graduating in order to save money to go to college. She then attended Kearney State College to become a teacher. Marjorie filled in for a teacher on maternity leave in January 1955 in Cozad. She taught 1st grade at Cozad for a year and a half. She had planned to take a teaching job in Minden, but met the love of her life, Alex W. Schneider of Cozad. They were married August 11, 1956 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway. Marjorie taught 4th grade in Cozad for another year before she and Alex moved home to Marjorie’s family farm west of Callaway.&nbsp;

After Marjorie’s father passed away in 1956, Marjorie and Alex farmed and ranched and raised their three children on the same homestead where Marjorie was raised. Marjorie returned to Kearney State College and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1969. She taught 5th grade at Callaway from 1969 to 1996. Marjorie was a substitute teacher at Callaway Elementary School for several years after she retired. Marjorie was also a voracious reader. She read scripture daily and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Marjorie devoted her life to loving her family and helping people at school, at church and in the community of Callaway.

In 1986, Alex and Marjorie received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award from Knights of AK-SAR-BEN honoring the Edward Smith Homestead, whose family owned the same farm for 100 years, thus contributing a century of loyal service to the development of Nebraska agriculture.

Marjorie and Alex enjoyed fishing and socializing with their friends at Van’s Lakeview at Lake McConaughy until 2019. Marjorie received Master Angler awards for catching a qualifying white bass in 1995 and walleye in 1999. Alex and Marjorie also enjoyed traveling across the United States as well as to Mexico, El Salvador, Rome and Germany. Marjorie was famous for baking cookies and zucchini bread for friends and family. She also canned vegetables from their enormous garden.&nbsp;

&nbsp;After her husband Alex passed away Marjorie moved to Park Ridge Assisted Living in Grant, NE to be closer to her daughters. She enjoyed getting cards, letters, phone calls and visits from friends and family. She liked to watch Husker Volleyball and Let’s Make A Deal on TV. Marjorie was a lifetime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Callaway American Legion Auxiliary Post 59.

Survivors include her son, Alex James (Jackie) Schneider of Lincoln: daughters Sheri (Jack) Chittenden of Paxton and Connie Holz of Ogallala; sister, Jody Farmer of Sidney; grandchildren Jon (Kelsey) Chittenden of Yutan, Leanne (Jeremy) Orlowski of Lincoln, Jessica (Matt) Deaver of Grant and Alex (Addison) Schneider of Lincoln; eight great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Alex, her parents, her infant siblings Terrence and Mary Smith, and her son-in-law Denton Holz.

Marjorie Marie Schneider (1935-2024)

Frederick ‘Fred’ Dean Morrison, age 84, of O’Neill, died Sunday, August 11, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Fred was born on April 27, 1940 in Arnold, Nebraska to George E. and Dorothy M. (Booker) Morrison.

Fred grew up and attended schools in Callaway; Arnold; Lawton, Oklahoma; and Kimball. He graduated from Callaway High School. On July 12, 1958, he married Marilyn Spangler in Callaway. Fred enjoyed all sports and played football, basketball and ran track. Fred started his working career with the Jorgeson Well Company in Callaway, he also worked on an oil rig. In 1963, he started working for the Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas company in Sargent. His time with the gas company took him and his family to Broken Bow, Ainsworth, Randolph and O’Neill. He retired from the gas company in 1998 as regional manager.&nbsp;

Fred was a member of the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad serving several years as the Fire Chief. Fred enjoyed playing golf in the summer and bowling in the winter. After retirement, he enjoyed model railroading and his grandkids fondly remember him as Grandpa Choo-Choo.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; children, Keith (Alicia) Morrison of Nebraska City, Daniel (Debbie) Morrison of Bassett, Glen (Marcy) Morrison of Omaha, and Dale (Kristin) Morrison of Randolph; 13 grandchildren; 14 (plus one on the way) great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert (Pam) Morrison of Loveland, Colorado.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna (Jerald) Cantrell; great granddaughters, Ember and Estel (Grant and Carly Morrison’s daughters).

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Callaway Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Karla Sheffy, officiating.

Fred was born on April 27, 1940 in Arnold, Nebraska to George E. and Dorothy M. (Booker) Morrison.Fred grew up and attended schools in Callaway; Arnold; Lawton, Oklahoma; and Kimball. He graduated from Callaway High School. On July 12, 1958, he married Marilyn Spangler in Callaway. Fred enjoyed all sports and played football, basketball and ran track. Fred started his working career with the Jorgeson Well Company in Callaway, he also worked on an oil rig. In 1963, he started working for the Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas company in Sargent. His time with the gas company took him and his family to Broken Bow, Ainsworth, Randolph and O’Neill. He retired from the gas company in 1998 as regional manager.&nbsp;Fred was a member of the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad serving several years as the Fire Chief. Fred enjoyed playing golf in the summer and bowling in the winter. After retirement, he enjoyed model railroading and his grandkids fondly remember him as Grandpa Choo-Choo.Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; children, Keith (Alicia) Morrison of Nebraska City, Daniel (Debbie) Morrison of Bassett, Glen (Marcy) Morrison of Omaha, and Dale (Kristin) Morrison of Randolph; 13 grandchildren; 14 (plus one on the way) great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert (Pam) Morrison of Loveland, Colorado.Fred was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna (Jerald) Cantrell; great granddaughters, Ember and Estel (Grant and Carly Morrison’s daughters).His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Callaway Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Karla Sheffy, officiating.Memorials are being established with various local fire departments.Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway is assisting the family with arrangements. Frederick "Fred" Dean Morrison (1940-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Kenneth L. "Ken" Dugger passed away unexpectedly at his home in McCook, NE on August 7, 2024 at the age of 77. He was born September 29, 1946 in McCook to Jack Dugger and Geri (Dolan) Dugger. He spent his youth in Cambridge, NE, and later obtained his higher education in Stoneham, CO.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ken entered the United States Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a proud Veteran, serving in an Army field artillery unit during Vietnam.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ken married Carol Wilson on September 26, 1968 in McCook. The young couple soon moved to Greeley, CO where Ken opened two Texaco service stations with his Dad. Later, the family moved to Forest Grove, OR where Ken worked as a mechanic for Hamby Chevrolet until the family returned to McCook in 1983. Ken then worked for Klein's Motor &amp; Electric, before moving to Parker Hannifin until his retirement in 2008.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ken was a lifetime member of the VFW, Men's Bowling Association, past member of the McCook Elk's Lodge, and past president of the Forest Grove Youth Baseball and Junior Baseball Association. He loved hunting, and later loved fishing, boating, and camping with his family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ken leaves behind his wife of nearly 56 years, Carol (Wilson) Dugger. He is survived by his son, Kenneth L. Dugger, Jr. and wife, Christy; his daughter, Stacey Dugger Samples and husband, Chris; and five grandchildren: Seth, Adam, Miranda and her husband, Garrick, Ellie, and Elijah. He also had the joy of knowing his two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Mackenzie. Ken's sister, Joann Taylor and husband, Richard; brother-in-law, Richard Wilson and wife, Jean; sister-in-law, Betty Leibrandt; sister-in-law, Julee Wilson; special friends, Terry and Jana Sides and Dick and Claudia Stanton; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his brother, Robert Dugger and his wife, Sharon; and niece Kimberly Dugger Wayman.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ken's life was marked by his commitment to his family, his country, and his community, and he will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday morning, August 13, 2024 at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating.&nbsp; Burial with full military honors in the St. Catherine Cemetery in Indianola will follow services.

Kenneth L. Dugger, Sr. (1946-2024)

On August 10, 2024, Dean Arthur Henrickson passed away at Linden Court in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born the only son of four children to Arthur and Edna (Deavers) Henrickson in Kimball, NE, on July 31, 1948.

In 1966, Dean graduated from Kimball County High School and went on to pursue and earn his Bachelor’s in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. &nbsp;After this huge accomplishment, he went to work in the mines as a mining engineer in Edgemont, SD. It was here that he met Debbie Gray; the couple married and had two children, Abigail and Eric. &nbsp;The family returned to Kimball where Dean worked for his dad’s business, Western Office Supplies. &nbsp;They then made their home in Hershey, NE and Dean worked as a salesman for Xerox. The couple decided to pursue different paths and separated. &nbsp;In 2015, Dean retired from Twin Rivers Testing &amp; Environmental where he tested local construction materials. &nbsp;

Dean was known as a talker; in fact, if at any point, you happened to walk past him, he probably had a joke or story to tell you. &nbsp;As most are, he could also be stubborn and could be described as a carbon copy of his dad. &nbsp;Dean played the trombone in the Summer Band and with the Sandhills Symphony. &nbsp;He was a member of the Gideon’s, a club he thoroughly enjoyed participating in, and he was a proud attendee of Sunrise Rotary. &nbsp;Being an outdoorsman, he had lifelong hobbies that included camping and fishing trips. &nbsp;He was a lover of the mountains and always kept a pristine yard.

Dean is survived by his children, Abby (Frederick) Holliday of Custer, SD, and Eric (Monica) Henrickson of Cozad; grandchildren, Anthony, Alex, Taylor, Faith, and Aaron; sisters, Joyce Zimmerman of Minden, IA, Nancy (Peter) Salter of Phoenix, AZ, and Kathy (Ralph) Anderson of Minitare, NE; close companions, Barb Minard, James Hassett, and the Dan Ewald family; other family and friends.

Dean Arthur Henrickson (1948-2024)

Sunbeam Pauline Swanson, formerly of Arnold, Nebraska, passed away in her sleep on July 29, 2024, in her independent living apartment in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 20 days.&nbsp;

Sunbeam was born on February 9, 1933, in her parents' home in Elim Valley south of Arnold, Nebraska, to Harry and Lettie Oman. When she was a little girl, Sunbeam's parents bought nearby farmland and built a home on the edge of Tallin Table. Sunbeam attended the Tallin country school, graduated from Arnold High School in 1950, attended Grace College of the Bible for the next school year, and taught at the Tallin country school for the following school year.&nbsp;

On June 4, 1952, Sunbeam married Don Swanson (Don died on June 1, 2024 — 3 days short of their 72nd wedding anniversary). To this union 2 children were born, Pauline and Donald Lee. They made their home north of Cozad until Don was drafted into the Army and sent to Germany. Sunbeam and the children joined him there for 17 months. When Don was discharged from the Army, they moved back to their home north of Cozad. Then, in 1959 they built a new home south of Arnold, where they lived for the next 60 years.&nbsp;

Sunbeam received Christ as her personal Savior as a young girl. She attended the Tallin Church and as a teenager was part of the young peoples singing group known as the Crusaders. As she became an adult, she taught children's and young people's Sunday School classes. She and Don attended the Morning Star Church while living north of Cozad and then Tallin Church after moving to south of Arnold. Sunbeam was the organist at Tallin Church for 50 years.&nbsp;

Sunbeam was busy as a mother and homemaker. In 1975, Sunbeam started a business out of their home installing window treatments in homes and in businesses like banks, nursing homes and hospitals. Sunbeam continued that business for 38 years. Don was busy with his cattle and farming but took the time to help Sunbeam with her window treatment business.&nbsp;

Nothing gave Don and Sunbeam more joy than their family. Pauline married Duane Norman, and Donald Lee married Marilyn Landis. They blessed Don and Sunbeam with 5 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Their family always found the time to be together. Each one was very special to Don and Sunbeam.&nbsp;

Besides seeing family and getting together with friends, Don and Sunbeam enjoyed traveling. Over their married life, they took 19 tours in the United States and overseas. Their last tour was to Israel, which they always said was the best tour they took. It was so meaningful to walk where Jesus walked and to be baptized in the Jordon where Jesus was baptized.&nbsp;

Sunbeam was preceded in death by her husband, Don Swanson, her parents, Harry and Lettie Oman, her father- and mother-in-law, Carl and Ruth Swanson, and brother-in-law, Russell Brodhead. Sunbeam's survivors include: daughter Pauline Norman (Duane), son Donald Lee Swanson (Marilyn), grandchildren Janelle Weitzenkamp (Jon), Jonathan Norman (Desirae), Jamie Watson (David), Justin Swanson (Mandy), Grant Showalter-Swanson (Connor), 16 great-grandchildren, and sister Frances Brodhead.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 5200 R Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Sunbeam Swanson (1933-2024)

Karen Eileen Davison of Lincoln, NE passed away at home on Monday, July 29, 2024. Karen was born on April 28, 1956, to John and Barbara (McGahan) Olivigni in Oxford, NE. The family eventually moved to Lewellen, NE where she attended public schools and graduated from LRHS in May 1974.

In June, 1972, Karen met her future husband, Larry Davison, at a cattle branding located near Oshkosh, NE. Larry joined the Army in March 1973. Karen and Larry were married in Ogallala, NE on June 15, 1974. They made their first home together at Ft. Bliss Texas (El Paso) until January 1975. Larry received orders to report to Camp Humphreys, South Korea in December 1974 and Karen went with him and they stayed in Korea for 14 months.

They returned to Ogallala in 1976 and later moved to North Platte. On January 22, 1981, they welcomed their daughter Alyssa Ann Davison into this world.&nbsp;Shortly after, they moved to Ft. Sill, OK so Larry could attend more military&nbsp;training. After the training they moved back to North Platte until the spring of&nbsp;1982, when Karen, Larry and Alyssa moved to Chadron NE to attend college. Karen and Larry both graduated from CSC in December, 1985. Karen graduated with summa cum laude honors.

While Larry was attending another military school at Ft. Sill, OK, in 1986, Karen got a job with the Social Security Administration in Lawton, OK. Eventually, she applied and was hired by SSA in Lincoln, NE and they moved to Lincoln in 1987. In 2011, Karen retired from SSA and went to work for a local law firm until Larry retired and they moved to Clermont, FL. It was always her dream to live by the ocean and that is what she did for three years. Eventually they moved back to Lincoln to be with family, friends and doctors in 2023.

Karen enjoyed traveling, gardening, attending concerts, with Bon Jovi being at the top of the list. She and Larry attended two Bon Jovi concerts during the same weekend a few years ago. Karen and Larry loved Disney World and visited as often as they could. Karen was especially proud of the medal she earned for completing the Walt Disney World half-marathon. She also liked visiting Sunken Gardens in Lincoln, reading, spending time at the beach with her two sisters each&nbsp;year, playing board and card games and was a skilled Mahjongg player, playing online and in local groups in Florida and Nebraska. She also was a member of a local bible study group in Lincoln. She was an avid supporter of the Hearts United for Animals in Auburn, NE. Karen liked dogs and absolutely loved her Pomeranian, Riley!

Karen is proceeded in death by her parents, father-in-law Clarence Davison, brother-in-law Don Davison, and sister-in-law Pearl Davison.

Those she left behind are her husband Larry, daughter Alyssa and fiancé Mathew Kister, Riley (Pomeranian), sisters Lisa Olivigni, Lorna (Steve) Triplett, brother Fran (Lynne) Olivigni, mother-in-law Doris Imogene Davison, and brothers-in-law Rod Davison, Steve (Kay) Davison, Kevin Davison, Kent (Jeannine) Davison, and Monte (Shawna) Davison, many nieces and nephews, and many good friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Carpenter Memorial Chapel on 10:00 am August 16, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Karen liked dogs and absolutely loved her Pomeranian, Riley!Karen is proceeded in death by her parents, father-in-law Clarence Davison, brother-in-law Don Davison, and sister-in-law Pearl Davison.Those she left behind are her husband Larry, daughter Alyssa and fiancé Mathew Kister, Riley (Pomeranian), sisters Lisa Olivigni, Lorna (Steve) Triplett, brother Fran (Lynne) Olivigni, mother-in-law Doris Imogene Davison, and brothers-in-law Rod Davison, Steve (Kay) Davison, Kevin Davison, Kent (Jeannine) Davison, and Monte (Shawna) Davison, many nieces and nephews, and many good friends.A Memorial Service will be held at Carpenter Memorial Chapel on 10:00 am August 16, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating.
