Roberta Ann (Ruppert) Werkmeister, age 94, of Palisade, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.&nbsp;

Roberta was born January 11, 1930, at Quick, NE to Clifford and Nellie (Boson) Ruppert. She attended grade school at District 101 which was located across the road from her parents’ home. She then attended high school at Curtis, NE where she lived in a dorm during the week and went home on weekends, a 30 plus mile trip!

Growing up, Roberta was her dad’s “boy”: she worked fields, tended cattle, milked cows, and fed hogs and chickens. After graduating high school, she began teaching rural school immediately. She also attended summer school at Kearney State College where she earned her teaching certificate.

Roberta met Raymond Werkmeister when he brought and picked up his twin sisters Arlene and Darlene from the school where she taught. They started dating within 4-5 months. Their common interest was dancing, and dance they did! Hadley Barrett and Polka Dances were readily attended!

Roberta married Raymond on February 16, 1952 at the Quick Methodist Church. To this union five children were born: Shirley, Melody, Roger, Barbara Joy and Terri.

Roberta raised and sold fryer chickens. In her biggest year, she sold 500. The income helped pay the bills along with the cream and eggs she sold. Roberta continued to teach at country schools until 1962 when the couple moved to the farm south of McCook.

In 1967, Raymond and Roberta purchased a farmstead near Palisade, NE. Roberta worked at Ruppert Locker, Butler Beef Acres, as a janitor for McCook District 8 and a substitute teacher in Palisade and later the Librarian.

Roberta worked for Palisade Coop for many years, retiring at the young age of 86.

In her free time, Roberta drove an ensilage truck, cooked meals during harvest and delivered them to the fields, raised sweet corn and chickens to sell, and helped with irrigation. She also enjoyed baking cinnamon rolls and pies, working crossword puzzles, reading and jigsaw puzzles. Roberta crocheted numerous afghans over the years for friends and family to enjoy. She loved a good card game and did whatever it took to win including not even going easy on the little ones.

Roberta was an avid sports fan. She loved to watch and critique every good pitch, catch, swing, and shot or every missed pitch, catch, swing or shot her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren took as they competed. She played softball while in Kearney attending summer school and enjoyed watching college football, volleyball, baseball and basketball. Her favorite pro sports were baseball, basketball and football.

Roberta was a member of the Palisade UMC, Friendly Neighbor Club, a past member of the Palisade Public Library Board, Eve’s Circle, Pioneer Café Volunteer (Monday Night Pizza) and a 4-H Leader for many years.

Roberta is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter, Barbara Joy; son-in-law, Bill Wilson; sister, Norma Sorge; great grand children, Erik Werkmeister, Austin Herbert and Olivia Herbert.

Roberta is survived by son, Roger (Janet) Werkmeister of McCook, NE; daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Ferguson of Palisade, NE, Melody Herbert of Chadron, NE and Terri Wilson of Palisade, NE; brother, Otis Ruppert of McCook, NE; brother-in-law, Roger (Phyllis) Sorge of Loveland, CO; sisters, Viola Greenlee of Columbia, MO and Shirley (Larry) Schlem of Ogallala, NE; sisters-in-law, Lois Bennett, Arlene Werkmeister and Pat Werkmeister. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorials contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in her name to be designated at a later date.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church in Palisade, NE with Rev. Jacob Keega, officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in the Palisade Cemetery.

Roberta Ann Werkmeister (1930-2024)

Manford "Al" Thornton, 68, passed away on July 27, 2024, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Al was born December 5, 1955, at Fort Carson, Colorado to Manford O. and Barbara Ann (Link) Thornton. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before studying Theology, Greek, and Hebrew languages at Grace Bible College and Grace University, respectively.

Al's formal studies spilled into a lifelong commitment to the study of the Scriptures and the noble pursuit of honing exegetics based on careful analysis of the original languages of the biblical texts. Al wrote substantially throughout his life, from short novels to personal translations of the Gospels and epistles. At the time of his passing, Al was even working on a website to promulgate his work, aside from the standard means of publication. A cancer diagnosis would hamper his plans, in addition to his health. However, Al's work will find new life in the hands of his family, who intend to see his work to fruition.

Al was preceded in death by his father, Manford O. Thornton.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Thornton, and his sister, Peggy (Gordon) Hayden, all of Chappell, along with several other relatives and friends.

Manfred Alton Thornton (1955-2024)

&nbsp; Rex Thomas "Tennessee" Fuller, 79, formerly of North Platte, went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2024, at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.

Rex, the son of Rushell and Mabel (Elliott) Fuller, was born January 11, 1945, in Murray, Kentucky.&nbsp; He grew up in Jasper, Tennessee, then enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and served from 1963 to 1967.&nbsp; Rex's service took him to Atlanta, GA, and Grand Island, Nebraska, and that is where he met his future wife, Gloria Reynolds. 

On August 17, 1968, Rex and Gloria were united in marriage and they made their home in North Platte.&nbsp; Rex hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in August of 1969 and worked until retiring in 2005 as Fireman/Oiler.

After Gloria died in 1998, Rex married Barbara Epping in North Platte. They retired to Paducah where Rex became an active member and deacon at Park Avenue Baptist Church.

Rex enjoyed watching horse racing and never missed a NASCAR race.&nbsp; He also loved being outdoors and could be found fishing, mowing, or taking care of the yard.&nbsp; Rex will be remembered as a proud Air Force veteran!

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fuller; sons, Bill Fuller of North Platte and Thomas (Lori) Fuller of Kearney;&nbsp; stepson, Darren (Israel)Epping-Fuentes;&nbsp; grandchildren, Macy, Chance and Kade Fuller; his brother, Houston Fuller; and several loving nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Along with his first wife, Gloria, Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Rushell and Mabel Fuller; and five siblings, James "Red" Fuller, Clifford Fuller, Calvin "Dolly" Fuller, Melba Gholston and Bobby Joe Fuller.

Rex "Tennessee" Fuller (1945-2024)

Drew A. Fassler, a beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, friend, passed away on July 29, 2024, in McCook, NE. He was born on March 26, 1996, in North Platte, NE.

Drew led a vibrant life filled with diverse experiences and passions. He graduated from McCook High School in 2014 and went on to be a skydiving instructor in Tennessee and Georgia before becoming a skilled Journeyman Electrician at IES Electrical in Holdrege, NE. Drew's adventurous spirit shone through his love for skydiving and spending time hunting coyotes with his father. He also cherished moments at the hunting cabin and bonding over car repairs with his Grandpa Lapp.

In his free time, Drew found joy in the company of his faithful companion Lola, his dog. His hobbies included exploring the skies while skydiving and creating lasting memories with friends and family.

Drew A Fassler (1996-2024)

Erwin Gene Fredde, age 84, of McCook, NE passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Erwin was born November 22, 1940 in Fairbury, NE to parents Albert August and Iva Ione (Henry) Fredde. Erwin grew up in Norton, KS where he attended school, graduating from Norton High School.&nbsp;

Erwin married Bonnie Kay Fredde in 1959. To this union six children were born. On June 29, 1990, Erwin married Patricia (Wakefield) Fredde in McCook.&nbsp;

In Erwin’s younger years, he worked at his dad’s implement mechanic shop. He later opened a sign shop and was also a paint contractor. Shortly after his marriage to his first wife Bonnie, Erwin was a police officer of the City of Norton.&nbsp;

Erwin enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He loved square dancing with Pat as well as riding his motorcycle and going on 5K road trips. The couple also enjoyed camping together. Erwin was a member of the Honda Goldwing Motorcycle Chapter as well as the Chairman of the Republican River Riders. Edwin’s hobbies included auctioneering, gardening and his flower gardens. He loved nature, feeding the squirrels and birds in his backyard. He will also be remembered for his carpentry skills, painting and artistic ability.&nbsp;

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Connie Fredde; infant son, Robert Clay Fredde; and two sisters, Ruth and Evelyn.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate his life include his beloved wife, Pat Fredde of McCook, NE; three daughters, Kathy (Kerry) Nicholson of Larned, KS, Monica Fredde of North Platte, NE and Heather Fredde of McCook, NE; two sons, Mark Fredde of Salina, KS and David Fredde of Larned, KS; two step daughters, Christine (Lukich) Kier of Grand Island, NE and Jennifer Lukich, and partner Jimmy Harris, of Denver, CO; siblings Janet Rojas and Art Fredde, both of Kansas; four grandchildren, Sean (Jennifer) McKenna of Larned, KS, Jason (Chanda) McKenna of Norton, KS, Alexis Nicholson and Seth Fredde, both of Salina, KS: six step grandchildren, Tiffani, Tonia, Emily, Leighton, Hanna and Kamryn; six great grandchildren, Liliana, Alex and Parker McKenna of Larned, KS and Stratten, Axten and Quaten McKenna of Norton, KS; six step great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends.&nbsp;

Linda's passing leaves a void in the lives of her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Betty (Rodie) Thomas; her brother Mark Allen Thomas; her sister Lila Kay Klitzke; as well as both paternal and maternal grandparents. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

Deborah Kay Willson Harvey, born to Maxwell and Larena Willson in North Platte, Nebraska, on February 13, 1951, peacefully passed away in Loveland, Colorado, surrounded by her family. Preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters: Jean Humphrey, Betty Humphrey, and Joanne Grady.

Debbie, as she was fondly known, graduated from North Platte High School and later married Frank Aloi. She is survived by her daughter Robyn Drake, her husband Shawn, and grandchildren Frankie, Max, and Rowan; her son Ryan Aloi, his wife Katherine, and grandchildren Cianna, Mateya, and Solomon; and her son Scott Aloi, his wife Natalie Savage, and their children Merrily, Wellan, and Jones.

In 2006, Debbie found love again with Randy Harvey, and together they enjoyed years of travel and companionship until his passing in 2010. Later reconnecting as friends with Frank Aloi, they bonded over family and shared interests in westerns. In 2020, Debbie relocated to Colorado to be closer to family and found companionship with Jim Craddock, enjoying evening walks, dining out in Loveland, and drives in his Mustang convertible. Jim passed away in September 2022.

Debbie's warm smile and love for her family and friends endeared her to many. She was joyfully present at her eldest granddaughter's wedding in September 2023, cherishing every moment with her loved ones.

Debbie's internment will be held at the North Platte cemetery on Monday, August 12th at 9:30am. Immediately following at 10:30am, a Celebration of Life brunch will take place at the Community Playhouse (Canteen room) at 301 E. 5th St, North Platte, Nebraska.

Jose Manuel Rivas Gonzalez, 55, of Lexington, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Lexington Regional Health Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 21, 1969, in Tepetongo, Zacatecas, to Francisco Rivas and Michaela Gonzalez. When Jose turned seventeen, he moved to Baldwin Park, California where he spent many years working at various restaurants. In 1992, he moved to Lexington, where he dedicated 32 years working for IBP, later known as Tyson Fresh Meats. On January 16, 1993, Jose was united in marriage through the church to the love of his life, Juanita Jimenez in Mexico. The family was blessed with five children: Jose, Gustavo, Stacey, Manuel Alejandro, and Michelle.

Jose was a family man, who loved spending time with his wife and children, traveling to different places. He enjoyed getting dressed up and enjoying his weekends, grilling and listening to Spanish corridos. He was known as a hardworking man who liked to keep his hands busy. If he wasn't at work, he was working on his truck, or tending to his garden. Jose was a devout Catholic, who had a kind and pure heart. His faith helped him endure and persevere during some of the toughest moments in his life. He always made sure he went to church every Sunday and prayed for the health and safety of others. He was an amazing husband and father, who will be greatly missed.

Brenda Jo Rasmussen, 64, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at Great Plains Health, Saturday the 27th of July 2024 in North Platte. &nbsp;She was born in Austin, Texas, on August 14, 1959 to Robert Warren and Linda Negley. &nbsp;

She attended school and grew up in Tuscan, Arizona.&nbsp; Brenda met Francis McDevitt at the age of 28 and they had a daughter Nicole Kaye Rasmussen. &nbsp;She then moved around for a couple years, but North Platte was always home to her. &nbsp;She returned to North Platte in 1997, doing various jobs, however her favorite was doing school lunches. &nbsp;She was well educated and could outsmart many. &nbsp;She was also an adamant Eagles member for many years. &nbsp;Brenda was strong willed, determined, beyond independent, understanding, compassionate, had a great sense of humor, and straight just told it like it was. &nbsp;She was the glue that kept our family together, through the tough times and the good times, all of the holidays together and meals she prepared for them. &nbsp;She was our rock. &nbsp;She enjoyed cooking, baking, spending quality time with loved ones, and playing board games. &nbsp;One of her most favorite things to do was sit outside and enjoy the weather, only if it wasn’t “too cold”, in her famous words.

Harold Curtis Joedeman, 86 of Stapleton, NE, passed away at his home on the family farm south of Gandy on July 27, 2024. He was born on January 21,1938, to William and Fern (Tomlinson) Joedeman of Gandy, NE. He graduated from Logan County High School in Gandy in May, 1956. He married Mary Halouska on June 12, 1956. The couple lived on his family farm south of Gandy and have resided there ever since, except for 4 years in Arnold. He began working at the Forrester’s Garage and worked there for 48 years where he achieved Master Mechanic Certification. &nbsp;Harold served in the Army National Guard and Reserve.&nbsp;

He was a founding member of the Gandy Berean Fundamental Church and was a member of the North Baptist church for 20 years and later at the Gandy Community Bible Church. He served as a Deacon at both the Berean and Baptist churches. &nbsp;Harold was known as being very ornery and took pride in working on the farm. He mentored many people throughout the years.

The couple lived on his family farm south of Gandy and have resided there ever since, except for 4 years in Arnold. Harold Curtis Joedeman (1938-2024)

Marilyn Kay Taul of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Linden Court. Marilyn was born at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook, NE on May 22, 1947&nbsp;to Robert and Gladys (Vaughn) Vontz. She was raised on her family farm in Trenton, NE alongside her siblings. In her youth, she attended Trenton High School and graduated in 1965. On March 17, 1968 she married the love of her life, Jerel Keith Taul. To this union were born their children: Scott, Kristi, and Kari.

Marilyn was known by many as a hard worker and active community participant. In addition to fulfilling her duties as a homemaker and helping her&nbsp;husband on the farm, she was a successful Tupperware saleswoman and&nbsp;party host for forty-seven years. She was also an active member of the Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, the North Platte RSVP, and Trenton Band Parents. In her limited free time, she volunteered at 4-H, helped at her children’s school events, and maintained a thriving flower and vegetable garden.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerry Taul; in-laws Clarence and Ella Taul; brother Robert Jr. (Bobby) Vontz; brothers-in-law Don Taul and Don Cole; sisters-in-law Barb Taul, Margret (Harold) Baker, Doris (Wayne) Hovey, Anita (Henry Jr.) Siitzman, and Joyce (Darrel) Troxel; daughters-in-law Dena Taul and Lori Taul; and best friend Annalea Janousek.

Those left to cherish Marilyn’s memory are her son Scott Taul of Edgewood, TX; daughters Kristi (Mike) O’Neal of Red Oak, IA and Kari (Tracy) Olson of North Platte, NE; sisters Mary (David) Bruun and Madelyn (Rich) McKain; Stepmother, Joan Vontz; grandchildren Steven O’Neal, Stacey (Bryan) Hardy, Austin McFarland, Kira&nbsp;Olson, and Cory Olson; great-granddaughter Sophia; and several nieces and nephews.

Inez Joan (Russell) Myers, known to her family and friends as Joan, was born August 22, 1930, at Gates, Nebraska to Arch and Inez (Freeman) Russell. Joan attended the Red Star Elementary School and attended High School in Broken Bow, Nebraska, graduating in May of 1948. After Rex Myers bought Joan’s Box at a Box Supper Auction, their love story began. On December 5, 1948, Rex and Joan married at the Lillian Church of Christ. Joan went to be with her Lord and Rex on July 26, 2024, at the age of 93.

&nbsp;Joan was a homemaker – keeping an immaculate house and liked to bake everything from scratch. She always raised a large garden and spent many hours picking the produce and canning. Joan enjoyed doing handwork – quilting, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Many people were blessed with her masterpieces. One of Joan’s favorite activities was camping with Rex.

&nbsp;Joan was a member of the Lillian Church of Christ, was a Sunday School teacher, VBS Craft teacher, and played the organ for worship services for many years.

&nbsp;Joan is preceded in death by her parents – Arch and Inez Russell; her husband and sweetheart of 67 years, Rex Myers; sister – Helen Merilatt; brother – Howard Russell; brothers-in-law – Dan Merilatt, Bill Bigbee and Ray Flannery; sisters-in-law – Ruth Lea Flannery, Marjorie Russell and Sharon Russell.

Joan Myers (1930-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey Alan Brunkhorst was born in Imperial, Nebraska on January 10, 1948 to Ansel and Delpha Brunkhorst. Mickey departed this life on July 26, 2024 at the age of 76. Mickey attended school in Wauneta, Nebraska and graduated high school with the class of 1966. Mickey then attended Parks School of Business in Denver, Colorado. Mickey married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Stute on October 15, 1967. To this union two children were born: Kelly and Kimberly.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey enlisted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey and Gwen moved from Colorado back to Wauneta to farm and raise their family. Mickey enjoyed farming and ranching. Mickey was an active member Redeemer Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 304.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mickey was proceeded in death by his parents, infant brothers, Woodrow and Loren and step-father, Floyd Nordhausen.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He leaves to mourn his wife of 56 years, Gwen; son, Kelly (Carey); daughter, Kimberly (Brandon) Kuykendall; brother, Lynn (Rhonda) Brunkhorst; and step-mother, Sandra Brunkhorst; grandchildren: Seth (Emma) Brunkhorst, Alex Brunkhorst, Christien Kuykendall and Jaelyn Kuykendall; great-grandchildren Elliot and Charlie Brunkhorst and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mickey Alan Brunkhorst (1948-2024)

Virginia O. (Woods) Hixon of Grant, NE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Imperial Nursing Home in Imperial, NE, at the age of 101 years. Virginia was born on January 13, 1923, to Guy and Mary Edith (Leetch) Woods in Blue Hill, NE.&nbsp; Virginia was the middle of five children. The family later moved to the Imperial, NE area. She graduated from the Imperial High School.

She met Lloyd Vernon Hixon, the love of her life, in Imperial. Lloyd Vernon (Vern) and Virginia were married on August 27,1940. In this marriage, they were blessed with two children - Shirley (Hixon) Clayton and Lloyd Dean Hixon. Vern and Virginia were involved with farming and cattle for a number of years in the Grant area. Vern and Virginia moved to Grant in 1974. It was then that she worked in the kitchen at the Perkins County Hospital for 20 years. She was also very active in 4-H, the New Life Fellowship Church and an extension club called the Texas Trail.

Virginia was a loving, caring, and faithful woman, and she deeply loved her family. Virginia believed in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as she was a strong Christian woman. She always had a way of finding the good things, even in the hardest of situations. She was always so positive and polite. She loved children and did not know a stranger. Not only was she a wonderful grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to her family, but she was also considered a grandmother to a lot of people who knew her. She also loved animals, especially her beloved dogs Tiger and Daisy. She loved being outdoors, whether it be mowing her lawn, planting flowers, or just enjoying sitting on her porch swing. Virginia was an amazing woman who will be greatly missed.

Virginia is survived by her grandchildren Nilla Claymon of Amherst, Colorado; Jeana Hixon of Payson, Arizona; Daren (Liz) Claymon of Lincoln, NE; and Matt (Heidi) Hixon of Loveland, Colorado. Great-grandchildren Lacey and Beau Taylor, Dietrich and Audrey Hitt, and Hayden (Wes Salyards) and Drake Hixon. Niece Isla (Dwayne) Powell of Central City, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.

She was warmly greeted in Heaven by her loving husband of 52 years, Vern; her children Lloyd (Sandie) and Shirley (Delvin); one grandson (Darryl); her parents; her siblings Harold (Evelyn), Ester (Lyle), Betty Jean (Chuck), and Eryle; and many other relatives.

A celebration of life for Virginia will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 10 am at the New Life Fellowship Church in Grant with Pastor John Goodell officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial to the Grant Awanas Club has been established and will be greatly appreciated by the family.

Jim F. Porter age 82 of Broken Bow passed away on July 23, 2024 at the Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow with Pastor Steve Collins officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Jimmy Franklin Porter was born on January 10, 1942, at Arnold, NE to George and Ruby (Swisher) Porter. Jim grew up in Arnold, then moved to the family farm southeast of Arnold. Jim attended school in Arnold and graduated from Arnold High School. Jim’s family were faithful members of the Nazarene Church in Arnold. A story Jim liked to tell about his growing up, they had a dog that was out fixing fence with them one day. His father was digging a posthole and the dog started barking and carrying on. The dog was barking at a rattlesnake that was coiled up and ready to strike his father George.&nbsp;

After graduating from high school, Jim went to work on ranches in the Sandhills of Nebraska.&nbsp;

Jim was married to Roma Giddings on July 3, 1964. They made their home in Broken Bow. Jim worked at Becton-Dickinson in Broken Bow and Monroe’s in Cozad. He later took a job at the Custer School in Broken Bow as the school custodian. Here he was known as “Jiminy Cricket”. He enjoyed the staff, the teachers, and the students. In 2008 Jim had to have valve replacement surgery. Jim retired shortly after that.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vivian Ditch, three brothers Russell Porter, Alfred Porter, and Oscar Porter, and four infant siblings.

Jim is survived by his wife Roma of Broken Bow, daughter Donna Amartey of Broken Bow, son Delbert Porter of Broken Bow, three grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Jo (Larry) Hickenbottom, brother Sherman (Lou) Porter of Broken Bow, and many nieces and nephews.

Neil Mitchell Bokoskie, born on August 20, 1967, passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack on July 23, 2024 in Cheyenne, WY.&nbsp;

Growing up, Neil attended a one-classroom elementary school (Sioux Lookout), later attending Maxwell Public School throughout middle school, and eventually going on to North Platte High School to finish out his secondary education. He graduated class of 1985. While in high school, Neil excelled in the rodeo arena as a bull rider. He won consecutive NHSRA championships two years in a row—1983 and 1984. After graduating, he went on to ride bulls for Fort Scott Community College on a rodeo scholarship, later making his way to Oklahoma State. He had also joined the PRCA and was in the running for rookie of the year. Unfortunately, his riding career was cut short by a shoulder injury.

Neil was a passionate and hardworking man, dedicating over 30 years of his life to his career with Union Pacific maintenance of way—a testament of his commitment to providing for his loved ones. Some of Neil’s proudest accomplishments were bringing his daughters into this world alongside his wife Julie. He appreciated time spent with family, and found happiness in seeing his children grow and succeed.&nbsp;

Neil’s love for the outdoors was unparalleled. He loved hunting, fishing, kayaking, rafting, camping, hiking, and biking. Neil was an adventurer at heart, his outdoor hobbies bringing him immense joy and peace. He could also often be found on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on an evening cruise.&nbsp;

He will be deeply missed by his surviving family: wife, Julie of North Platte; daughters, Kelsey, Shelby, Shaelen, Shanelle; step-sons, Wacey Barrett, Wyatt Barrett, Taylor (Katie) Barrett; grandson, Jayce Daniels; parents Kevin (Elaine) Bokoskie of Valentine; step-father, Patrick Martin of Bryan, TX; sisters, Shelli (Randy) Wingett of Omaha, Lori Rosendahl of Magna, UT; nephew, Brandon Wingett of Omaha; numerous other family and friends.

Neil was preceded in death by biological father, Don Wondercheck; mother, Janice Martin.

Neil M Bokoskie (1967-2024)

Dorothy Rachel Bricker, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 26, 1935, in Paxton, Nebraska to Wilhelm and Olinda (Heinrich) Langmacher. She attended Paxton Public Schools and graduated from Paxton High School with the class of 1953. She transitioned to Nebraska State Teacher's College at Kearney where she earned her degree in teaching. Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Vance Bricker on October 9, 1955, at the Lutheran Church in Paxton, Nebraska. Six children were blessed to this union: Vance, Alan, Bruce, Laurie, Shelly and Kevin.

Dorothy dedicated many years teaching pre-school children in Ogallala and Lexington. She worked in the Lexington Public Schools as well, working for the special education department and the library. She retired from Lexington Public Schools once she turned 62. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church. &nbsp;She was known to be a meticulous seamstress, with her specialty being dresses and jackets. Dorothy and Vance spent twenty-two years wintering in Arizona where they made many lifelong friends and enjoyed dancing as well as creating beautiful jewelry out of fixed glass. She enjoyed spending her afternoons outdoors, doing some yard work or maintaining her garden. She also enjoyed baking her favorite cinnamon rolls for her kids and canning garden staples.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish her legacy are her children, Vance Ryan Bricker of Lexington, Alan (Theress) Bricker of Kearney, Bruce (Betty) Bricker of Holdrege, Laurie (Steve) Hamit of Greeley, Colorado, Shelly (Jack) Pietenpol of Lincoln and Kevin (Anita) Bricker of Ashland; grandchildren, Amber Herrington, Kelli Riley, Aspen Workman, Kraig Hamit, Kyle Hamit, Adam Neil, Devin Rausch, Halie Bricker, Chelsie Stowe-Rains, Eli Bricker, Gretchen Bricker, and Sophie Bricker; great-grandchildren, Lane, Lawson, Ledger, Carter, Austin, Lucas, Lainey, Bricker, Cavanaugh, Cora, Ellie and one on the way; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.&nbsp;

Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Bricker, her brother, Don Langmacher and grandson, Adam Neil.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor John Strackbein, officiating. Dorothy Rachel Bricker (1935-2024)

Wanda Jean Evans passed away on July 23, 2024, in McCook, NE at the age of 90.&nbsp;

Jean was born on a farm Northeast of McCook, NE to parents Loyd and Daisy L. (Younger) Blake on September 14, 1933. She graduated from McCook High School in 1951. Jean married Duane M. “Pete” Evans in Kingsland, GA, while he was in the Navy, on October 27, 1951. Together they had three children: Linda, Steve and Pam.&nbsp;

The couple returned to McCook in 1954 and started their own trucking business. Jean drove semi along with Pete for 20 years. Following the sale of the business she went to work for the next 20 and a half years at the Red Willow County Clerk’s Office. Following retirement, she worked part time for the Red Willow County Treasurers Office.&nbsp;

Jean loved to take her chance in gambling with many trips to Blackhawk with friends and playing bingo. She was a member of the Memorial Methodist Church. Jean will be remembered most for being a sports fan and an avid Husker and Bison fan. Before her eyesight diminished, she quilted and crocheted.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Dallas (LaVern) Blake and Marvin Blake; two sisters, Roberta (Burt) Piper and Darlene (Harold) Wagner; and son-in-law, Rodney Koetter.

Those left to celebrate Jean’s life are her children, Linda (Steve) Cole of Curtis, NE, Steve (Christi) Evans of McCook, NE, and Pam (Tammy Merat) Miner of McCook, NE; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Charles “Charlie” B. Schluckebier, 78, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Imperial, NE. He was born on August 15, 1945, in McCook, NE, to Paul D and Rosalie B. (Baxter) Schluckebier. Charlie attended high school in Jackson, MI, graduating with the class of 1964.

On April 27, 1984, Charlie married Evelyn M. Lines in Atwood, KS. They shared 33 happy years together before Evelyn’s passing in 2017. From their union, they were blessed with two children: Dan and Donna. Charlie also had a son, Paul, from a previous marriage.

Charlie enjoyed traveling from Michigan to Nebraska to visit and help on the McClatchy Family Farm. Charlie had a diverse career, as a welder for many years at Miller Manufacturing in Stratton, NE, Shroeder Cattle Company, was as a hired hand for Bob and Alta Keating and later served as a ditch rider for the H&amp;RW Irrigation District until he retired.

Charlie's interests and hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit. He enjoyed catching snakes, shooting prairie dogs, tinkering with old cars, and attending gun shows as an avid gun collector. He was a member of the Palisade Methodist Church, and the Palisade Masonic Lodge. Charlie supported his family's events and was known for helping Evelyn with church activities, such as delivering the church bulletin or food to the housebound. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the swing outside the ditch house, watching the various wildlife.

Charlie will be remembered by many for his adventurous spirit, warm generosity, and his ability to bring a smile to everyone he met.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Schluckebier; son, Paul Schluckebier; daughter, Donna Whitney.

Those left to celebrate Charlie’s life include his son, Dan (Desi) Schluckebier of Hays, KS; son-in-law and granddaughter, Shane and Evelyn Whitney of Scottsbluff, NE; brothers, Rich (Sharon) Schluckebier of Palisade, NE, and Ken Schluckebier of Jackson, MI; and numerous friends and extended family.

Due to Charlie’s wishes, there will be no service. His ashes, along with those of Evelyn, will be scattered according to their request. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the swing outside the ditch house, watching the various wildlife.Charlie will be remembered by many for his adventurous spirit, warm generosity, and his ability to bring a smile to everyone he met.He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Schluckebier; son, Paul Schluckebier; daughter, Donna Whitney.Those left to celebrate Charlie’s life include his son, Dan (Desi) Schluckebier of Hays, KS; son-in-law and granddaughter, Shane and Evelyn Whitney of Scottsbluff, NE; brothers, Rich (Sharon) Schluckebier of Palisade, NE, and Ken Schluckebier of Jackson, MI; and numerous friends and extended family.Due to Charlie’s wishes, there will be no service. His ashes, along with those of Evelyn, will be scattered according to their request. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Charlie’s name can be sent to Pioneer Community Federal Credit Union P.O. Box 117, Palisade, NE 69040, OR can be mailed to Danny Schluckebier family.
