It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Colleen Renee Shafer Lembke, 68, on August 21, 2024 at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska.

Colleen was born on July 26, 1956 in Grand Island to Kenneth and Jeannine Kamper Shafer. &nbsp;She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1974. &nbsp;Colleen met the love of her life David Lembke and they were united in marriage on June 21, 1975. &nbsp;To this union their children Jessica, Jeremiah, Jami and Emily were born. &nbsp;They made their home in North Platte and enjoyed the next 49 years together making beautiful memories.

Colleen was employed by the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office as a Child Support Enforcement Case Worker and was recently recognized for 35 years of service. &nbsp;She enjoyed her job and helping others. &nbsp;Colleen was a member of the Nebraska Child Support Enforcement Association holding the title of State President for two terms. &nbsp;She was also a member of the Foster Care Review Board for the past 20 plus years. &nbsp;

Colleen was very involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. &nbsp;Throughout the years she was President of the PTA and enjoyed helping out as a Room Mother. &nbsp;She was a Blue Bird and Campfire Leader. &nbsp;She was a member of AYSO Soccer League and held the title of President. &nbsp;She coached several soccer teams and was always volunteering. &nbsp;She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and held several titles during the past 25 years.

Colleen spent her free time sewing, quilting and enjoying her grandkids various activities while cheering them on. &nbsp;She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Nebraska Cornhusker fan. &nbsp;She loved taking trips with the family and making memories with all of us. &nbsp;She enjoyed visiting with friends and family whether it be over a good cup of coffee or a nice glass of wine. &nbsp;Her grandchildren always loved drinking “coffee klatch’ (German for coffee with gossip) with grandma on the back patio. &nbsp;She was definitely the driving force in her family and made sure we were all together for Christmas as that was her favorite holiday and she enjoyed decorating her house from top to bottom.

Colleen is preceded in death by her parents; in-laws James and Dorothy (Menke) Lembke; brother Steven Shafer; brother-in-law Robert Lembke.

Those left to cherish Colleen’s memory are her loving husband Dave; son Jeremiah (Kari) Lembke of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; daughters Jessica Pankonin and Jami (Eric) Stueben of Grand Island and Emily Lembke of North Platte; brother Ken Shafer of North Platte; sister Ellen Shafer (Neil Speer) of North Platte; grandchildren David Lembke, Gavin Stueben, Jaelyn (Kenneth) Narvaez, Dakota and Kalli Pankonin of Grand Island, Kiah Lembke of North Platte and Madalyn Pankonin of Chandler, Arizona; Ellis Lembke of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and various nieces and nephews.

Colleen was an amazing, beautiful soul and always there when needed offering support, wisdom, strength, courage and love. &nbsp;She cherished each and every one of her family members and friends especially her grandchildren. &nbsp;She had a heart of gold and left a lasting impact on everyone she touched. &nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family as they will be making a contribution to the Critical Care Team at UNMC in memory of Colleen.

She will be forever missed. &nbsp;Until we meet again, we “Love you bunches!”

Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Miller, passed away in Broken Bow, Nebraska on August 20, 2024, at the age of 72.&nbsp;

Larry was born on May 4, 1952, in Broken Bow, Larry dedicated his life to serving his community as a life-long resident. He worked as a foreman at the Broken Bow power plant for 42 years, where his innovative designs and contributions to the plant's hardware and software continue to ensure the smooth operation of electricity and water services for the town. Larry was also a devoted volunteer, serving 25 years as a firefighter and 15 years as an Emergency Medical Technician, always ready to lend a hand in times of need. Larry was deeply committed to fairness and justice, evident in his role as the local Union representative with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), where he tirelessly advocated for the rights of his fellow workers. A member of the Knights of Columbus and a former city council member, Larry won his council seat through a write-in campaign, a testament to the trust and respect he garnered from his community. Larry was very active in the Catholic Church, where his beautiful singing voice was well-known and loved by all.&nbsp;

A loving husband of 46 years, he is survived by his beloved wife, Adele, and their five children: Melissa (Tim), Marcus (Tracy), Andrea (Rob), Kristen (Alex), and Joe (Matt). Larry’s legacy of service, faith, and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.&nbsp;

Larry Miller (1952-2024)

Joanna (“Jo”) Grace Griffith (nee Atkins) was born on May 24, 1939, in Stanton County Nebraska to Walter “Cecile” Atkins and Floyd Steinbaugh Atkins. Her family moved to Schuyler, Nebraska when she was in the fifth grade, and she graduated from Schuyler High School in 1956. She went on to attend Lincoln General School of Nursing and graduated in 1959. On August 27, 1966, she married Bill Griffith, and they made their home on Bill’s family farm south of Cozad. They welcomed two children into the family, son Matthew in 1968 and daughter Suzanne in 1969, and the four of them were a close-knit, loving, and hardworking family.

Jo worked at Cozad Hospital for many years, and served as the Director of Nursing. In that capacity, she did anything and everything from helping laboring mothers bring their newborns into this world, to providing love and comfort to all who needed it. She supervised nurses in training and helped in their words, to “make them good nurses,” and she was loved and respected by colleagues and patients alike. In addition to her nursing career, Jo was indispensable on the family farm, doing anything that needed to be done. She windrowed alfalfa, vaccinated livestock, and walked the pens to identify sick animals that were in need of treatment.

Jo was a woman of strong faith, active in both the Methodist and Presbyterian churches here in Cozad. She served on committees, participated in women’s groups, and volunteered for the annual Harvest Luncheon and Country Store. She was active in a neighborhood club, a well-loved friend, and a gentle soul who always had a smile on her face.

Jo is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bill Griffith of Cozad; son Matthew (Rene) Griffith of Orlando Florida; daughter Suzanne Griffith (Bryan Bell) of Lincoln; granddaughter, Jillian; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and former patients and co-workers, all of whom will miss her dearly. She is predeceased by her parents, grandparents, siblings, and many friends.&nbsp;

Joanna Grace Griffith (1939-2024)

Michelle “Shelly” Lynn Weaver, born July 30, 1969, in Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was 55 years old.&nbsp;

Shelly grew up in Omaha before her family made the move to Cambridge Nebraska, during her middle school years. It was in Cambridge that she met Kenneth Weaver. They were married on August 2, 1987. Together they raised six kids.&nbsp;

As a caring individual, Shelly pursued a career as an EMT after earning her certification in the field. Shelly was committed to her career for several years until her health declined.&nbsp;

Shelly loved spending quality time with her family and was always the first to defend and support her grandkids. You would often find Shelly watching movies, with her favorite being Twister. There was hardly a Saturday that would pass without her being glued to the TV cheering on the Husker football team. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Shelly would attend Cowboy Church wherever she may be and enjoyed horseback riding following the service.

Shelly found joy in the great outdoors. Camping, fishing, and exploring the mountains, particularly Pikes Peak, brought her great happiness. Shelly also had a fondness for wolves and Dream Catchers, each piece reflecting her deep appreciation for nature and its beauty.

Shelly is survived by her parents, Jack Manzer of Omaha, NE and Anita Hansen of McCook, NE; her children, Deatta Weaver (William) of Ogallala, NE, Courtney (AJ) Hettinger of Hastings, NE, Kenneth (Jessika) Weaver Jr. of Cambridge, NE, Mackenzie Weaver of Denver, CO, and Kaden Weaver of Overton, NE; siblings, Jacob (Beth) Manzer, John Daniel Manzer, Henry Hansen, and Anna Hansen; 15 grandchildren, with another one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Weaver; her brother, Baby Jack Manzer; and her sister, Rebel Manzer.&nbsp;

Carrel Gene White, 88, of North Platte, passed away August 19, 2024 at Linden Court. &nbsp;He was born May 10, 1936 to Fay and Hilda (Kruse) White in Gothenburg.

Carrel grew up North of Cozad and Gothenburg. &nbsp;At the age of 10, he moved with his family to Hershey and graduated from Hershey High School. &nbsp;In 1955, Carrel enlisted in the United States Air Force. &nbsp;He was honorably discharged in 1959 after serving in Ohio, Wyoming, New York and in the Pacific. &nbsp;On March 9, 1956 Carrel married Gladys Korbel at Hershey Methodist Church. &nbsp;To this union two sons were born: Michael and David. &nbsp;Carrel went to work for Western Electric in 1960 and traveled with his work across the country until he retired in 1995. &nbsp;He enjoyed camping, boating, and outdoor activities. &nbsp;He was a car enthusiast, especially enjoying Mercurys.

Survivors include wife, Gladys of North Platte; sons, Michael (Sandy) White of Laporte, CO, David (Terri) White of Pasco, WA; grandchildren, Kelsey White of Manhattan, MT, Shelby (Jordan) Lundstedt of Wellington, CO, Miranda White of Lincoln, Brittany White of Lincoln, Kacy (Ty) Leisy of Alliance, Zach (Kaylie) Anderson of Kennewick, WA, Kaisha White of Pasco, WA, Tyler White of Kennewick, WA; great grandchildren, Tristen, Tayven, Teagen, Treycen, Tayten, Tylen, Tyssen, Shealynn, Aydan, Kaylei, Luke, Tucker; siblings, June Roberts of Ft. Shirley Marie Andrews was born on November 14, 1948, in Dixie, Georgia, to Harry Dees and Annie Dees (Dorminey). She passed away August 19, 2024, in Wauneta, Nebraska. Growing up in Dixie, Georgia, Shirley left home at the age of sixteen but carried the values of her upbringing with her throughout her life. She approached each new chapter with resilience and an open heart, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.&nbsp;

An adventurous spirit, Shirley traveled extensively across the United States, creating cherished memories along the way. In 1971, in a moment that would shape her future, she met Dan Andrews in his brother's backyard in Greeley, Colorado. What began as a platonic relationship blossomed into a deep and loving partnership, culminating in their marriage on June 4, 1976.

Dan and Shirley moved to Hamlet, NE where Dan taught school in Wauneta while Shirley's professional journey was diverse and noteworthy. She held various roles throughout her life, including positions at Hamlet Elevator and Wauneta Care Home. Additionally, she served as a van driver at Imperial Manor and successfully ran her own upholstery business for four to five years, showcasing her adaptability and strong work ethic.

Shirley's love for life extended beyond her professional endeavors. She had a remarkable talent for gardening and yardwork, nurturing a passion for grooming flowers and reviving nearly dead plants purchased from Walmart. Her friends and family often remarked on her extraordinary "green thumb," a testament to her nurturing spirit and dedication to breathing new life into the world around her. She was also a fantastic seamstress going as far as making her dress and the kids' and Dan's outfits for their wedding.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Earl Dees.&nbsp;

Shirley is survived by her husband Dan Andrews, sons Richard Andrews, Derek (Eliza) Andrews, and daughter Deanna Scofield; thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00pm (MT) at the Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet, NE with Pastor Terry Lytle officiating. Inurnment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE.&nbsp;

On August 13, 1973, he was united in marriage to Cathy Biere in Hopper, NE. He attended high school at Hooper High in Hooper, Nebraska and graduated in 1968. Alan enlisted in the United States Airforce and served his country proudly for four years. He worked for Nebraska Public Power at the Gerald Gentleman Station as an Operator and retired from there after 20 plus years. He enjoyed his family, Nebraska football, hiking and riding his bike.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cathy of Gold Canyon, Arizona; two sisters, Diane (Dean) Tickle of Loop City, NE, Gay (Warren) Dose of Uehling, NE; a brother, Steve (Donna) Pipal of Fremont, NE; aunt, Mary (Leon) Bruns of Pender, NE; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Ed and Gladys Pipal; grandparents, Clarence and May Drummond; two brothers, Tony and Kevin Pipal; two nephews, Ryan Dose and Shawn Snover.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland, NE. Alan "Skaz" Kent Pipal (1950-2024)

William “Bill” Witthuhn, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2024. Born to Bill and Maud Witthuhn, Bill was a lifelong resident of Arnold, Nebraska, where he dedicated his life to the family farm and cherished the land and animals – a love he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

&nbsp;Bill graduated from Arnold Public Schools and pursued further studies in Diesel and Auto Mechanics at Mid Plains and Agriculture at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. On July 19, 1975, he married Lois Nansel, with whom he had three beloved children.&nbsp;

&nbsp;He loved a thrill, and this was evident in his weekend drag racing adventures with his “Cowboy Cadillac” in his younger years. Bill was also interested in classic cars and frequently attended car shows as well as finding and tinkering with found “treasures.” He spent many enjoyable days fishing and hunting with close family and friends Vern, Jack, and Barry.

As a result of Bill’s passion for the rural way of living, he spent countless hours leading and supporting his and other’s children in 4-H. His involvement in the program was a testament to his commitment to fostering the growth and development of young people.

An avid reader, Bill had a particular fondness for Western novels and classic movies featuring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He took immense pride in his grandchildren’s achievements, closely following their milestones online when unable to be there in person.

He is survived by his former wife Lois Nansel; children, Olivia (Larry) Prince, Tiffany (Todd) Engleman, and Tyrel Witthuhn; and grandchildren Benjamin (Elizabeth) Engleman, Alexander Engleman, Kearsyn Engleman, Remington Prince, and Ryker Witthuhn. Bill is also survived by his sister Linda Grabenstein and his sister-in-law Gloria Witthuhn and their families.

Preceding him in death are his parents Bill and Maud Witthuhn, and his brothers Dan Witthuhn and Ken Witthuhn.

A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at a future date in Arnold, Nebraska.

William Witthuhn (1954-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Nola Elaine Troxel-Straub was born January 7, 1943, at home at the Troxel Farm three miles south of Wauneta, NE in Chase County. She departed this life on August 19, 2024, at the age 81 years 7 months and 12 days. Her parents, Charles Orley and Luella May Bush Troxel had three children, Norma Ellen, Neoma Evelyn and Charles Robert, all ready to welcome her to their family.

She started Dist. #31 “Sunny Side School” 3 1/2 miles south of Wauneta, NE. In the fourth grade, because of the consolidating of schools, she attended the grade school in Wauneta and rode the bus to school. Nola Troxel graduated in May 1960 from high school there. Harry Straub had moved to Wauneta and attended high school in 1956 and graduated in May of 1960 also.

In August of 1960 they were married in a ceremony at the Church of Christ on August 14, 1960. They made their home in Wauneta.

Harry left for the U.S. Air Force in 1961. After basic training, Nola Straub joined him in Wichita Falls, TX where their first son, Harry David Jr. was born in 1963.&nbsp;

After they moved back to Nebraska, their second son, Robert Wayne was born in McCook, NE in 1967. The family moved with Harry’s job to Cortez, CO, Kaycee, WY where their oldest son David married Lori Christensen. Robert married Amelia Greaves in McCook, NE.&nbsp;

Nola enjoyed learning to paint, gardening and babysitting the grandchildren that came along in the next few years before they moved to Rock Springs, WY. In Rock Springs, she started college and received her bachelor’s degree in Art. Harry retired in 1999, and they moved to Wauneta, NE to be closer to their brothers and sisters. She continued to enjoy painting with several classes at McCook College and started quilting with a guild. She also enjoyed wood carving. In the spring of 2004, they moved back to the farm where she was born. They both were born in the country and enjoyed the sun rises, sunsets and watching the weather change. She enjoyed her Bible Studies and Church. There is peace in the country and a feeling for nature like no place else. A place to garden and enjoy flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Nola’s grandparents Charles D. Troxel and Phoebe C. Dinnel – Troxel and Catherine E. Winsor – Bush preceded her in death before she was born. Grandfather, Manuel Benton Bush and brother, Charles Robert Troxel died when she was a child. Her parents, Orley and Luella, sisters, Neoma E. Miller and Norma E. Bodeman, two brothers in law Donald R. Miller and Gerold A. Bodeman preceded her in death.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Harry, son, H. David and wife Lori, son, Robert and wife Amy; seven grandchildren: Brianna, Kelsey, Shawn, Kaleb, Bill, Seth and Kaden Straub; and 10 great-grandchildren: Archer, Darcy, Carver, Coren, Emry, Barrett, Madelyn, Nikita, Colt and Oakleigh.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 A.M. (Central Time) at Church of Christ in Stratton, NE with Pastor Randy Hayes officiating. Viewing one hour prior to service. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE at 1:00 P.M. (Mountain Time).&nbsp;

George “Maynard” Barnes, age 80 of Callaway, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, NE.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 23, 2024, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Private family services will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be left at www.govierbrothers.com

Maynard was born April 18, 1944, to Mary Alice (Patterson) and Lyle Kermitt Barnes, Sr. He graduated from Dunning High School in 1962.&nbsp;

On February 25, 1963, he was united in marriage to Elaine Hammond. To that union four children were born: Rhonda, George Jr, Terry, and Lori. He worked as a ranch hand on different place in the Brownlee, Thedford, and Dunning area for several years, including the Zutavern Ranch.

In 1980, he moved to Broken Bow and began working at Arrow Seed. In 1981, he married Linda Nichelson who brought along a daughter, Dawnell.

Maynard worked for Arrow Seed until 1993 when he was forced to retire early because of health reasons.

Maynard and Linda became camp hosts in 2005-2018. In this role, they met many people from all over the United States. He enjoyed being in nature and helping his grandchildren learn about camping and fishing. He loved to joke around with people and his sense of humor kept everyone on their toes.

Maynard is survived by his daughters, Rhonda (Bill) Woods of Ansley, Lori (Jamie) Bonde of Callaway, Dawnell (Shannon Paul) Ford of Wilcox, sons George (Sharron) Barnes of Litchfield, and Terry Barnes of Ansley, sister Lauretta Rice of Dunning, sisters-in-law Patti Barnes of Broken Bow, Jan Barnes of Valentine, and Myrna Nichelson of Chula Vista, CA, brother-in-law Mike Nichelson of Lexington, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents, stepfather Bobby Larsen, wife Linda Barnes, brothers Everett and Lyle, sisters Winnona Love and Marion Copper, and brothers-in-law Don Rice, Bill Copper, and Jerry Nichelson.

Maynard Barnes (1944-2024)

Maryan June (Franzen) Carlson of Cozad entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living at the age of 93.

Maryan was born June 19, 1931 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Meinert and Elizabeth (Aden) Franzen. She was raised in Gothenburg and was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church. She graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1949 and later from Bryan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1952.

She married Glenn Carlson on September 20, 1953, and together they shared 55 wonderful years until Glenn's passing in 2008. Their union was blessed with two children: Jodi and Jon.

For 25 years, Maryan worked as a nurse at Cozad Hospital, where her love for the operating room shone brightly. Her commitment to healthcare did not stop there; she also dedicated 25 years of service to the American Red Cross. In recognition of her hard work and passion for nursing, Maryan was inducted into the Cozad Health Care Hall of Fame in 2007.

A faithful and devoted member of the Lutheran Church in Gothenburg and Cozad, Maryan found joy in her faith as well as in her hobbies. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, where she made lifelong friends. In her later years, she discovered a love for knitting, creating dish rags for family and friends.

Maryan will be remembered for her dedication to her profession, her compassion, and her spirited personality. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work and kindness that will last for generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Norris; husband Glenn; and son Jon. Survivors include her daughters Jodi (Jay) Doran of Belton, TX and Chris Carlson of Reston, VA; daughter in law Valerie (Peter) Matt; siblings Norman Franzen of Omaha and Diane (Dale) Kinnan of Gothenburg; grandchildren Kalen Carlson, Erin Carlson, Sarah (Calder) Rosdail, Andrea (Kyle) Hewitt, all of Omaha, Evan (Amy) Huston of Austin, TX and Jeff (Gerri) Carlson of Colorado Springs, CO; 6 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Nancy L. Finken, 75, of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at her home in Johnson Lake.

She was born on May 7, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Herman and Lenora (Klungseth) Falldin. She attended Prospect High School where she graduated with the class of 1967. Nancy was united in marriage to William F Boston. The couple were blessed with a son, Anthony. The marriage would later end in divorce. Nancy found love again with Gerald "Jerry" Finken. The couple was united in marriage on December 24, 1977. They made their home in Palatine and Cary, Illinois where she continued to work as a cosmetologist. In 2001, the couple relocated to Johnson Lake, Nebraska where Nancy worked at the Lakeshore Marina.

Nancy was a social butterfly who loved being around others and sharing stories. She loved spending time with her friends while she worked at the marina and being at the golf course. In their younger years, Nancy and Jerry loved having horses and going on weekend horseback riding excursions with friends. She has always had a special love for animals and enjoyed the company of dogs the most.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Tony (Ginger) Boston of Crystal Lake, Illinois, sister Shirley Varney of Ham Lake, Minnesota, brother and sister-in-law Dan and Karen Finken of Johnson Lake, as well as extended family and many special friends.

Besides her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Nancy’s wish for cremation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Nancy L. Finken (1949-2024)

Carroll Eugene Greene, passed away on August 12, 2024 in Imperial, Nebraska. He was born on March 17, 1930, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Joseph Greene Sr. and Vera (Bricker) Greene.

Carroll led a fulfilling life as a Farmer and Rancher on the South Divide Line, embodying the values of hard work and dedication. Growing up his family regularly attended the Prairie Rose Country Methodist Church. He was educated at Ashgrove Elementary Country School and later, the halls of Wauneta High School, graduating with the class of 1948. Carroll played in every sport in High School with baseball being his favorite.&nbsp;

During the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, upon being drafted, Carroll served in the Army with distinction. For two years, he honed his skills as a field wireman and communication staff sergeant, demonstrating courage and commitment to his country.

Aside from his military service and agricultural pursuits, Carroll enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his earlier years. His love for sports carried on as an adult, being a big fan of the Nebraska Huskers, rarely missing a game. Carroll met the love of his life Ruth Lorraine Goble at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Denver, CO. The couple married in 1962 and eventually made their home in Imperial, NE. The couple danced together for over 40 years and were especially fond of traveling to the Elks Club in McCook to dance, where Carroll was a longtime member.&nbsp;

One of Carroll's many accomplishments was his membership at Frenchman Valley Coop, a testament to his strong work ethic and community spirit.

Carroll is survived by his loving daughter, Lori Ann Greene, who will cherish his memory forever. He is also survived by his grandsons, Sean Loeffler and Joshua Loeffler; great granddaughters Nia Marie Loeffler and Alani Lucia Loeffler, soon to arrive in November, great grandson Oliver; nieces, nephews and cousins. Their lives have been touched by his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love.

In his passing, Carroll is reunited with his wife, Ruth; his parents; his brothers Joseph Greene Jr. (Gloria), Glenard (Colleen) Greene; his sister, Virginia (George) King, and his niece Sylvia Large.&nbsp;

Carroll Eugene Greene's legacy as a devoted family man, a skilled farmer, and a proud serviceman will endure through the generations.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 6, 2024 at Imperial Methodist Church with Reverend Brian Loy Officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Carroll Eugene Greene (1930-2024)

Bonnie Rae (Marshall) Myers, age 95, of Callaway, died August 18, 2024 at the Callaway Good Life Center.

Bonnie was born October 15, 1928 in Eddyville, Nebraska, to Marion R. and Nellie Viola Lamb Marshall. She attended school at Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School. She then went on to continue her education at Kearney State College for teaching and taught grades 1-4 and all eight grades in music for 2 years in Eddyville.

She married the love of her life, Robert Myers, on August 7, 1949 in Eddyville. She and Bob were partners in any job they chose to do, no matter where it was. You rarely saw one without the other. Bob passed away in 2018. Four children were blessed to this marriage: Mike, Pat, Rob, and Connie.&nbsp;

Bonnie was a member of the United Methodist church in Callaway. She spent many years being a part of United Methodist Women and serving in the church in various roles. Bonnie loved being busy – she cooked for the school when the kids were growing up, later for the hospital, Good Samaritan Home and was the church secretary for a time. She held several jobs but one she felt so blessed by was working with Hospice, one of her gifts was caring for others when they were not well. Bonnie loved to cook and bake, it was very common to walk in her home and smell fresh bread baking. In recent years, she was not able to do the things she dearly loved but she could still tell you a recipe favorite or how to knead the bread to make it soft and perfect and she was good at teaching others how it was done. Her family was her life and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and especially by her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.&nbsp;

Bonnie Rae Myers (1928-2024)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Juana Davila Rivas, on August 18, 2024, at the age of 92.

Juana was born on June 19, 1932, in Nacimiento, Coahuila, Mexico, to her parents Tomasa and Francisco. She grew up with her three brothers, Clemente, Ignacio, and Ernesto, and her five sisters, Tomasa, Marina, Francisca, Rosaura, and Manuela. The family eventually settled in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. As a child, Juana enjoyed helping her mother in the kitchen and fondly recalled making mud pies with her siblings.

As a young woman, she worked as a maid, where she met her future husband, Luis, who was employed as a gardener by the same family. They fell in love and married in October 1951 and started their family, having 12 children—6 boys and 6 girls. In November 1966, they moved to Texas and then ultimately settled in Ogallala, Nebraska. Ogallala became their forever home, and it was the perfect town to raise their beautiful family.

Eventually, after separating from her husband in 1977, Juana was left to raise her family all on her own. Despite the challenges of single motherhood, her strength and determination never wavered. She continued to work hard, securing a job at the Keith County Courthouse, where she worked for 20 years. Through her perseverance, she purchased a home at 500 E J Street, a place that became a cherished destination for all of her family. It will forever be part of the family, filled with the memories and love she created with her loved ones.

Known for her kindness and open heart, Juana helped raise many of her grandchildren, and her home was always open to everyone, family or not. She treated her grandchildren as if they were her own, and she cherished the summers they spent with her. She kept everyone happily fed with her freshly homemade flour tortillas and classic homemade meals—atole, eggs and beans, goulash, and Arroz con pollo. These staple dishes of hers will be greatly missed, but her cherished recipes will carry on through her family.

Juana is survived by her 15 children: Adela (Jose), Luis (Laura), San Juana, Maria Dolores-Lola (Edmundo), Julieta-Julie, Maria Elena-Nena, Rosendo-Randy, Guillermo-Memo, Gabriel (Sandy), Eugenio, Romeo (Kim), Cesar (Sarah), Genaro (Amanda), Toby (Cheri) and Diana-Nani. She leaves behind 41 grandchildren, including Lorena, Marisa (Jorge), Martin (Neva), Jeremy (Renee), Eric, Sarah, Nasencio (Alexa), Jesus, Sergio, Bianca, Lessette (Mauricio), Ezequiel, Edmundo Jr. (Ana), Ariana (Tim), Sasha(Hector), Luis (Endi), Emilio, Michael, Jasmin (Eddie), Juan, Abel, Caesare, Shandelle (Jeremy), Nicholas (Vanessa), Karissa (Andrew), Vanessa (Carlos), Nathan, (Shelia Jimenez) Mother of Emilio, Acacia, Cisco. (Donna Jayne)-Mother of Nathaniel, Chayenne. Isaiah, Gabrielle, Carlee (Micha), Mateo, Savannah (Nick), Isabella, Marine (Liz), Yracema, and Ivan (Reyna). She was also blessed with 70 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Juana was preceded in death by her husband, Luis; her parents, Tomasa and Francisco; her eight siblings; her son-in-law, Jose Cabada; and her daughter-in-law, Kim Rivas. A devout Catholic, Juana was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala, Nebraska. She was the backbone of her family, always putting them first and finding joy in seeing them together.

Though her family mourns the loss of Juana, they find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering. In her final days, she shared how proud she was of each and every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, totaling 129 descendants. Her family is eternally grateful for the strong legacy she leaves behind.

Visitation will be in The Draucker Funeral Home Chapel, Ogallala, Nebraska on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Rosary and wake service will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Fr. Suresh Bandha as Celebrant.

Juana will be laid to rest at the Ogallala Cemetery in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Juana Rivas (1932-2024)

&nbsp; Thomas Holt Chesshir (Tom), 82, passed away at Tri Valley Health System in Cambridge, Nebraska on August 17, 2024.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tom was born July 9, 1942 in Howard County, Arkansas to Thomas and Beatrice (Wise) Chesshir. Thomas graduated from Nashville High School in Nashville, Arkansas in 1960. He went on to attend Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas and Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas and graduated with a degree in Agriculture from East Texas University in 1967.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; During the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Tom spent time teaching and coaching basketball at both Greiner Jr. High and Thomas Jefferson High School in the Dallas, Texas area. He eventually went to work for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Nashville, Arkansas where he retired in 2015. Thomas also served in the Marine Reserves.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On December 27, 1978 he was united in marriage to Shirley J. Hawkins in Texarkana, Texas. To this union, Tom and Shirley welcomed daughter, Chrissy. The couple lived in Texarkana, Texas, various places in Arkansas and Demopolis, Alabama before eventually moving to Nashville, Arkansas where they lived from 1996 to 2010. The Chesshir’s called Texarkana, Arkansas home from 2010-2020 and made their final move to Cambridge, Nebraska in September of 2020.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tom had a heart for sports and enjoyed playing minor league baseball for the Nashville Cubs in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. He loved wood-working and spent any spare time he had tinkering and making furniture in his shop or garage. Tom was also a faithful member of the McCook Church of Christ.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice (Wise) and Thomas Chesshir; and his sisters, Lillian Preston and Joyce Kaye Chesshir.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tom is survived by his wife, Shirley Chesshir; his two daughters, Chrissy (Alvin) Tucker of Cambridge and Tammy (Kevin) Dirickson of Texarkana, Arkansas; grandchildren: Erin (David) Walker, Alyssa, Alexis, and Scotland Tucker; great-grandchildren; Trent and Kynleigh Walker; and brother, Wendell (Mena) Chesshir of North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Thomas Chesshir (1942-2024)

Dorothy A. Glenn, 94, of Lincoln (formerly of Lexington), passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, surrounded by family.

Dorothy Hatch was born on a farm near Cozad, Nebraska to B. L. (Benny Lee) and Mabel (Griffith) Hatch. She was raised and attended schools in the Lexington area. She was married to Joseph Glenn in 1951 in Smithfield. They were blessed with six daughters and four sons, raising them in Lexington, Fremont, and Shelton. Dorothy lived in Lexington until 2023, when she moved to Lincoln to be closer to family.&nbsp;

Dorothy was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington. She enjoyed volunteering at the Lexington Regional Hospital Gift Shop. She loved to attend country dances, challenge herself with trivia and puzzle books, crochet, craft and maintain family connections. Dorothy was a wonderful mother, always there when she was needed, offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. A friend to many, she left behind a legacy of kindness and strength.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Carol Dreier, of Sioux Falls, SD, brother Virgil Hatch, of Alliance, her children, daughter Jolene (David) Cozad, of Arlington, TX, son Eugene Glenn, of Kapaa, Hawaii, daughter Peggy Lawhead, of Davey, daughter Virginia (Mark) Hamilton, of Weeping Water, son David (Jan) Glenn, of Omaha, son Dale (Julie) Glenn, of Springfield, daughter Cathy Glenn (Steve Ems) of Lincoln, daughter Diane Glenn, of Ansley, daughter Carol (Al) Kruger, of Hastings, and son Steve (Lori) Glenn, of Shelton. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

&nbsp;Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wilford and Verl, and husband Joe.

&nbsp;A service will be held Thursday, September 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington, with Pastor Nathan Rhea officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Highland Cemetery in Bertrand.

Dorothy Ann Glenn (1930-2024)

Mark Edward Armstrong, age 71 of Big Springs, Nebraska passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024, with his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstrong by his side.

Mark Armstrong was born on July 20, 1953, in Grant, NE to Allen and Arlene (Donahue) Armstrong of Big Springs, Nebraska. Mark graduated high school in 1971 in Grant, Nebraska. Mark then married his sweetheart Michelle (Soper) Armstrong on September 8, 1979, and have been married for 45 years. Together Mark and Michelle enjoyed raising their family together.

Mark enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking trips to Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Texas. He loved fishing in Estes Park, Colorado, and Wyoming.

Mark lived in Brule, Nebraska, Whitman, Nebraska, and Big Springs. In his adventures in his lifetime, Mark enjoyed his ranch life, raising cattle and having his roping horses. Mark was involved in team roping in which he won several jackpots.

He held offices involved in the American Quarter Horse Association. Mark also loved doing the wild horse races and riding cows at the local fairs. Mark also served on the Junior Board at the elevator and 4-H in Deuel County.

Mark enjoyed going on trail rides on horseback with his children. He loved dancing at rodeos it was one of the highlights of life that brought him so much joy, he even once danced at the Elks Lodge in Westminster, Colorado. If there was a rodeo dance, you would more than likely find Mark kicking up his boots.

Over the years Mark worked for Garth Ogier, of Whitman, Nebraska, Duanne Hoover of Brule, Nebraska, Max Soper of Big Springs, Nebraska; as a self-employed farmer for a time, HS&amp;S of Brule, Nebraska and; Darrell and Brian Armstrong of Brule.

Mark fought prostate cancer and bone cancer for five years traveling to North Platte, Nebraska, Fort Collins, Colorado, Seattle, Washington and Blaine, Washington for treatments. When Mark wasn’t traveling for treatments, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mark is survived by his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstong; his children, Kandace (Alex) Footman of Blaine, Washington, Dixie (Tim) Chilzer of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and Chase (Emma) Armstrong of Sidney, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Zander, Savii, Mark, and Riggs; three siblings, Beverly (Jerry) Baker of Northglenn, Colorado, Connie (Jack) Barker of Knoxville, Tennessee and Roger (Elaine) Armstrong of Berthoud, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark also served on the Junior Board at the elevator and 4-H in Deuel County.Mark enjoyed going on trail rides on horseback with his children. He loved dancing at rodeos it was one of the highlights of life that brought him so much joy, he even once danced at the Elks Lodge in Westminster, Colorado. If there was a rodeo dance, you would more than likely find Mark kicking up his boots.Over the years Mark worked for Garth Ogier, of Whitman, Nebraska, Duanne Hoover of Brule, Nebraska, Max Soper of Big Springs, Nebraska; as a self-employed farmer for a time, HS&amp;S of Brule, Nebraska and; Darrell and Brian Armstrong of Brule.Mark fought prostate cancer and bone cancer for five years traveling to North Platte, Nebraska, Fort Collins, Colorado, Seattle, Washington and Blaine, Washington for treatments. When Mark wasn’t traveling for treatments, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren.Mark is survived by his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstong; his children, Kandace (Alex) Footman of Blaine, Washington, Dixie (Tim) Chilzer of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and Chase (Emma) Armstrong of Sidney, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Zander, Savii, Mark, and Riggs; three siblings, Beverly (Jerry) Baker of Northglenn, Colorado, Connie (Jack) Barker of Knoxville, Tennessee and Roger (Elaine) Armstrong of Berthoud, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Arlene Armstrong; his grandparents and infant sister Gloria Armstrong.A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. in The Assembly of God Church with Chaplain Robin Storer and Pastor Jared Mitchell officiating in Big Springs, Nebraska.Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery, Big Springs, Nebraska.A memorial has been established for The Big Springs Fire Department.Online condolences may be left at www.drauckerfh.comServices will be live-streamed from www.drauckerfh.comDraucker Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements
