Marla Jean Bain (Simmons), age 66, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on September 9, 2024 after a very difficult year of fighting cancer. Born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1957, she was a vibrant spirit who lived her life to the fullest and loved the hardest.&nbsp;

Marla was truly lovely. She was a tad eccentric, incredibly strong and positive, always ready to dance through any pain or difficulties and extend a helping hand to those around her. She loved to take a walk down memory lane and have a photo shoot for any occasion. Known for her role as an incredible mother and "Glamma," her love and spirited nature left a lasting impact on her family and friends.

She leaves behind ex-husband and best friend Patrick Bain, her son Adam McMurtry and his wife Melissa, her daughter Taylor Bain and cherished grandchildren; Paige (10), Hannah (7), and Atlas (2). She is also survived by her brothers, Jimmy (Donna), Stuart (Carolyn), Keith (Jan), and Lou (Michelle) along with numerous nieces &amp; nephews. Marla was preceded in death by her parents, Warren &amp; Phyllis, and Phyllis's 2nd husband, Bill Burton.

A celebration of Marla's life will be held at the Moose Lodge on September 29th at 12 PM. This gathering will honor her memory and the joyful life she shared with all who knew her. Gene J. Roether, born on September 11, 1938, in Dawson County, Nebraska, departed this life on September 10, 2024, in Cozad, Nebraska, just one day shy of his 86th birthday. Gene was a cherished member of the community, known for dedication, kindness, passion for his work and family.

Gene's early life was shaped on the family farm, located 6.5 miles northwest of Eustis, Nebraska. He attended Eustis Public School, where he completed his education, graduating in May 1958. Following his graduation, Gene began his career at Farmers Co-op, dedicating his time and effort to serve the community he loved.

In 1961, Gene entered the armed forces, taking basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado, for 11 weeks. Afterward, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, until his discharge in 1963. Returning home, he rejoined the Farmers Co-op, eventually rising to the position of manager of the Farmers Co-op Elevator on May 1, 1966. Gene managed the elevator for an impressive 40 years, building lasting relationships and earning the respect of his colleagues and community members.

In 1968, Gene met Marlene, the love of his life, and they were united in marriage on August 31 of that year, establishing their first home in Eustis, Nebraska.&nbsp; Together, they created a beautiful life, purchasing an acreage northwest of Eustis in 1978. Although they did not have children, the bond they shared was a source of joy and fulfillment throughout their lives.

Following his retirement, Gene discovered a passion for woodworking, gardening, and raising sweet corn, activities through which he expressed his creativity and love for nature. He often shared the fruits of his labor with family and friends, brightening their lives with the bounty of his gardens.

Gene was the beloved son of George and Freida (Schaaf) Roether, both of whom have preceded him in death, along with his brother Glenn, who tragically passed away by drowning in 1958, and his sister Georgia in 2023.

Gene is survived by his wife Marlene; sisters, Gloria Roether and Glenda (Roger) Neill all of Cozad; his brother and sister-in-law, Duane (Betsy) Onken of Aurora; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched profoundly.

A memorial service honoring Gene will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Bible Church, located at 1721 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Burial will be at 2:00 pm, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.

Larry Dean Jameson was born March 10, 1938, to Ralph and Edith (Ricks) Jameson on the Dismal River Ranch south of Thedford, NE. Larry was the second to youngest of eight siblings. Larry attended K-8th grade at a country school on the Dismal River. He then attended and graduated from Thomas County High School- class of 1955.&nbsp;

After attending a semester at Nebraska State Trade School in Milford studying Diesel Mechanics, Larry was needed back on the family ranch to help his dad.

On September 30th, 1961, Larry married the love of his life, Betty Ann Ewoldt at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Thedford, Nebraska. Larry and Betty established their home out on the Jameson Ranch on the banks of the Dismal River. They had two daughters, Donna Kay and Teresa Lynn.

After 44 years of married life on the Dismal, Larry &amp; Betty moved to BJ Ranch Co on the east side of Highway 83 south of Thedford where they have lived the past 19 years.

Larry has been a member of Bethel Assembly of God church for the past 68 years. During those years he has served on the Deacon Board for several terms with several different pastors. Larry also served as Assistant Sunday School Secretary for many years. Most importantly, Larry loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, soul, and mind. He loved his wife and family deeply. Larry also enjoyed ranching, John Deere tractors, and old cars (especially Ford retractables).

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph &amp; Edith Jameson; his brother, Edgar Jameson, his sisters, Shirley Jameson, Betty Neal, Deloris Little, Irene Piester, and Elsie Carr; and his grandson, Zachary Dailey.

Larry is survived by his wife-Betty Ann Jameson of Thedford, his daughters- Donna Kay Higgins (Terry) of Thedford and Teresa Lynn Dailey of Papillion, NE, his grandsons- Jared Jameson Dailey (Jordan) of Mishawaka, IN, and Trevor Dailey of Papillion, NE, his younger sister- Thelma Haynes (Dallas) of Syracuse, NE, as well as, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Dean served our Country from June 1, 1954, and was Honorably Discharged on May 26, 1958. After serving in the Navy, Dean worked as a carpenter in Seattle, WA for a number of years building homes. In 1981, Dean returned to Nebraska doing carpentry work until he retired at the age of 76. Later he moved to the care home, having suffered the last number of years with Dementia &amp; Alzheimer’s.

Dean enjoyed Overton School Sports, Nebraska Football, golf, fishing, and card games.&nbsp;

Dean is survived by son Mike (LaVonda) Hinrichsen of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Dawn Hinrichsen of Kearney, eight grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, sisters Lucy (George) Moore of Overton, Delores Ropers of Sargent, daughter-in-law Merry Favinger of Minden and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lisa Kay Waterman, 55, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Medical Center of Aurora after a three-week battle with cancer.

Lisa was born to Mike and Kathy (Tex) Smithberg on August 23, 1969 in Omaha, Nebraska. After high school, Lisa married Scott Glinn, and together, they had a daughter, Kelli. Later, they divorced, and she married Chad Waterman, and they had two boys together, Seth and Laine.

Lisa always had a love for animals and that gift stayed with her throughout her lifetime. With a love for dogs, she went to work at Cloverleaf Dog Track in Loveland, Colorado, until it was closed. She then moved back to Ogallala and went to work at the Perkins County Veterinary Hospital in 2012 as a dog groomer. Throughout this job, she met many clients who became close friends. In 2023, she decided to start her own business, Bubbles &amp; Biscuits Mobile Pet Salon, which grew rapidly successful. She absolutely loved working with all the dogs. She also had found other passions and adventures in the last couple of years with her best friend, Cody Stickley. They would go antler shed hunting in the spring. They would also go out and find arrowheads, rocks, and other artifacts. She enjoyed polishing the rocks they would find and collect. She has always been an outdoor person, but in the last few years, it has been her place of peace. When she wasn't outside, you could find her inside watching and rooting for her favorite football team, the New Orleans Saints.

She is preceded in death by her father, Mike Smithberg; grandfather, Clarence Tex; grandparents, Mable and Bill Palmer, and Kenny Smithberg.

Lisa Kay Waterman (1969-2024)

Zetta Luetta Oakley, (Annie), age 93, passed away Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at her daughter Rexene’s house in Omaha, Nebraska. She had a great weekend of watching the Cornhuskers win and was surrounded by many family members.

She was born on August 4th, 1931 to parents Ivan Clair Haining and Blanche Bowers at Cheyenne County, Kansas. She attended school at Benkelman, Nebraska.

Zetta married Charles Rex Wonderly on Feb 4, 1948 and they were blessed with 3 children: Sally, Jerry and Rexene. Rex was in the Army and stationed in Germany. In 1955, Zetta and children came back to the United States following their divorce.&nbsp;

Zetta then remarried in August 5, 1956 to Clifford E. Oakley at Trenton, Nebraska. They were blessed with two daughters: Rita and Terri.

Zetta worked as a nurse in Stratton, Nebraska before moving to Red Willow Lake, 13 miles north of McCook, where Cliff worked for Nebraska Game &amp; Parks. She worked for the McCook Police Department as meter maid for several years. She was head of housekeeping at the McCook hospital. She also was a fantastic cook at the Pow Wow Club, cooking delicious steaks for over 13 years. She was a housekeeper for private homes too. She worked at Nebraska Game &amp; Parks, maintaining the camp grounds and facilities at least 11 years. Zetta also worked at Evangelical Free Church organizing many church dinners and events. &nbsp;

Zetta was a member of the “Red Hats Society”, the Eagles Club and a local Doll Club for over 25 years. Her passion was collecting porcelain dolls, teapots and other numerous treasures. She loved spending time with family and friends.

 </figure>Zetta Luetta Oakley, (Annie), age 93, passed away Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at her daughter Rexene’s house in Omaha, Nebraska. She had a great weekend of watching the Cornhuskers win and was surrounded by many family members.She was born on August 4th, 1931 to parents Ivan Clair Haining and Blanche Bowers at Cheyenne County, Kansas. She attended school at Benkelman, Nebraska.Zetta married Charles Rex Wonderly on Feb 4, 1948 and they were blessed with 3 children: Sally, Jerry and Rexene. Rex was in the Army and stationed in Germany. In 1955, Zetta and children came back to the United States following their divorce.&nbsp;Zetta then remarried in August 5, 1956 to Clifford E. Oakley at Trenton, Nebraska. They were blessed with two daughters: Rita and Terri.Zetta worked as a nurse in Stratton, Nebraska before moving to Red Willow Lake, 13 miles north of McCook, where Cliff worked for Nebraska Game &amp; Parks. She worked for the McCook Police Department as meter maid for several years. She was head of housekeeping at the McCook hospital. She also was a fantastic cook at the Pow Wow Club, cooking delicious steaks for over 13 years. She was a housekeeper for private homes too. She worked at Nebraska Game &amp; Parks, maintaining the camp grounds and facilities at least 11 years. Zetta also worked at Evangelical Free Church organizing many church dinners and events. &nbsp;Zetta was a member of the “Red Hats Society”, the Eagles Club and a local Doll Club for over 25 years. Her passion was collecting porcelain dolls, teapots and other numerous treasures. Zetta "Annie" L. Oakley (1931-2024)

Marion “Bud” F. McCarthy, Jr., 80, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital. He was born on September 16, 1943 in Aurora, NE the son of Marion Bud Sr. and Viola Mae (Catlett) McCarthy.

Bud grew up and went to school in Grand Island, NE. &nbsp;He enlisted in the U.S. AirForce and served from 1960-64. &nbsp;He married Ann Marie Newton on June 6, 1965 in Crookston, NE and to this union three daughters were born. &nbsp;Bud worked for Union Pacific Railroad and owned and operated Bud's Lawn Service in North Platte for over 30 years. &nbsp;Bud's family and grandchildren were very special to him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; daughters, Patricia Streweler (Rick) of Arnold; Debra Pascoe of Lincoln; and Barbara Wachner (Trent) of Bellevue; grandchildren, Shawn, Megan, Kristy, Heather, Bryan, April, Joseph, Joshua, Cody, Tristan, Ryan, Amanda, Adam, and Rachel; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; brother, John McCarthy (Deb) of Washington; sisters, Peggy Svoboda, Julie Burkhardt, and Susan Reynek all of Grand Island; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bud Sr and Viola; grandson, Matthew; brothers, Joe, Mike, Will, and Eddie McCarthy; sister, Jeanette; in-laws, Don and Dolly Newton.

Marion "Bud" F. McCarthy, Jr. (1943-2024)

&nbsp; Marlene Jeanne Peregrine, 88, passed away September 6, 2024, in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was born on April 4, 1936, in Gothenburg to Albert and Hazel Hilton.&nbsp; Marlene attended Sutherland High School where she was involved in band and loved reading and music. In her senior year Marlene was presented as Valedictorian and graduated with the Class of 1954.

On October 17, 1954, Marlene married Dale Peregrine of North Platte. To this union 3 children were born: Rhonda, Cynthia and Robbie. In 1965 they moved to Hershey where Marlene and Dale raised their children.

Marlene was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on September 9, 1952, and was a faithful witness for 72 years until her passing.&nbsp; She was associated with the North Platte Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Marlene served as a regular pioneer for a short time and was a diligent student of the Bible.&nbsp; She loved to read and study Bible prophecy and many other passages and enjoyed teaching and sharing the Bible's hope with others.

Marlene also loved music and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She played the piano for the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses meetings for many years.

Marlene is survived by her children and their spouses: Rhonda and James Sinclair, of North Platte, Cynthia and Louis Carpio of Eaton, CO, and Robbie and Susan Peregrine of Heartwell, NE; and her brother, Dennis (Ann) Hilton of Hershey.&nbsp; She also leaves behind 3 grandchildren and their spouses: Melissa and Michael Murphy, Joel and Heather Sinclair and Jared and Mira Sinclair; as well as 4 great grandchildren: Emma, Jace, Haley and Chelsea; and other family.

Marlene Jeanne Peregrine (1936-2024)

&nbsp; On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Donald Wayne Fleecs peacefully passed away at his home in Sutherland.&nbsp; He was 91 years old.

Don, the son of Charles and Alice (Rourke) Fleecs, was born in Sutherland on February 11, 1933.&nbsp; He attended country school then Sutherland High School, graduating in 1950.&nbsp; Don farmed with his father for three years before being inducted into the U.S. Army.&nbsp; After his honorable discharge in 1955 Don returned home.&nbsp; He continued farming, earned his private pilot's license, and was owner/operator of Fleecs Brothers Trucking with his brother "PeeWee".

On December 29, 1956, Don married&nbsp; Peggy Ann Priel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland.&nbsp; They were blessed with six children and 62 years of marriage.&nbsp; The family lived south of town until 1965 when they built their forever home just west of the church.

He was active in the Sutherland community and the church.&nbsp; Don served on the school board for 15 years, Twin Valley Co-Op for 25 years, and Sutherland Rodeo Committee for 34 years.&nbsp; He also served on the Sutherland Co-Op, fire district, Chamber of Commerce, 4-H Council, Lincoln County Extension Board, American Legion and Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; More notably, Don was District 3 Lincoln County Commissioner from 1993-2002.

Don was a farmer, loving husband, and a good father and grandfather.&nbsp; He and Peggy enjoyed traveling; their most memorable trip was to Italy where they met Pope Francis.&nbsp; After Peggy passed away in 2019 Don anxiously awaited their reunion but in the mean time, he stuck to his routines, was independent and a bit stubborn. 

Don was known to many around town as "Tiger" or "Chief" and could often be seen picking up cans while riding his scooter downtown to mingle with the town folk and tell his stories. Then, as his health declined, he took up residence at The Maples at Centennial in North Platte in 2023 and looked forward to visiting his home on the weekends.&nbsp; Before returning to The Maples, Don would pick flowers from Peggy's garden to give to the girls when he got back.&nbsp; And a passion of Don's was dancing- he was always looking for a dance partner at The Maples.

One of the last pleasures Don had was taking a drive across the new Sutherland bridge the morning of his passing.&nbsp; He was one of a kind and always had a smile!

Along with his beloved Peggy, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Alice Fleecs; parents-in-law, P.E. and Isabell Priel; brother, Jerome "PeeWee" (Norma) Fleecs; brothers-in-law, Tom Hoatson and Bud (Betty) Priel; sister-in-law, Mary Bryant; son-in-law, Stewart Williams; and nephews, Robert Hoatson and Jerre Rome Fleecs.

Don is survived by his children, Diane McConnell of North Platte, Jackie Williams of Kansas City, MO, Pat (Ruth) Fleecs and Joe Fleecs of Sutherland, Liz (Chris) Skov of Hershey and Tina Fleecs of Kansas City, MO; his sister, Kathleen Hoatson of North Platte; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other family.

Services will be on Friday, September 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.&nbsp; Rosary service begins at 10 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with celebrant Father Jonathan Sorensen. Donald Wayne Fleecs (1933-2024)

Jerrold “Jerry” Wayne Thompson, 71, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE. &nbsp;Jerry was born on December 15, 1952 in Grand Island, NE the son of Walter Wayne and Grace (Kamper) Thompson.

Jerry graduated from North Platte high school in 1971 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. &nbsp;He was very proud of his Naval service to our country and served on bases in San Diego, CA and Pearl Harbor, HI. &nbsp;He served on the submarine USS Trout and aboard the USS Ponchatoula in Pearl Harbor. &nbsp;Upon returning to North Platte, NE from his service he attended the diesel mechanic program at Mid-Plains Community College vocational campus. &nbsp;He worked for Mid-Plains in the vehicle maintenance department for over 43 years, retiring in 2021. &nbsp;He was married to Connie Marie Lundvall on March 4, 1978 in Wallace, NE and together they had 2 children. &nbsp;Jerry was commander of the North Platte American Legion from 2002-2003. &nbsp;He was an avid NE Cornhusker fan and volleyball fan and was always very generous to a fault with his family and friends.

Jerry was predeceased by his father, Walter; stepfather, Rev. H.B. Schutte; brother, Timothy Thompson; and brother-in-law, Robert Butterfield.

Those left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his mother, Grace Schutte of North Platte; son, Christopher W. Thompson (Samantha) of North Platte; daughter, Jenny M. Schweitzer (Tim) of Gothenburg; grandchildren, Michelle Grant-Thompson, Xander Yates, Dominic Thompson, Lorelli Thompson, Tayden, Trey, Kinlee, and Brecken Schweitzer; sister, Barbara Butterfield of North Platte; brother, Rich Thompson (Mardell) of North Platte; sister-in-law, Tracy Thompson of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerrold "Jerry" Wayne Thompson (1952-2024)

Dolores A. Robertson, 94, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska.

She was born on June 1, 1930, in Oxford, Nebraska, to Louis and Emma (Hoehner) Knipschild. She attended a one room country school called Hard Scrabble before attending public school in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1947. In September of 1947, Dolores was united in marriage to Neil Huffman and made their home in Oxford. Three children were blessed to this union: Linda, Nancy and Dale. The marriage would later end in divorce. After her divorce, Dolores moved to Holdrege where she met Norman Robertson. The couple were united in marriage and made their home in Lexington in 1979.

Dolores was a hardworking woman, working during her high school days, waiting tables and cooking, where her talent as an excellent cook blossomed. She later transitioned into roles at a local hospital, school, nursing home, as well as a police dispatcher in Holdrege, all of which reflected her unwavering commitment to caring for those around her.

Away from her dedicated work, Dolores found joy in several hobbies. Dolores enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and loved to go to the casinos and gamble. She was also an enthusiastic viewer of her favorite soap operas. Dolores loved to bowl and was a proud participant in a bowling league, where she formed friendships and shared great moments with her friends. She was a faithful member of the Eagles Club Women's Auxiliary, where she held every position.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Dale Huffman of Lexington, Linda Radtke of Omaha, and Nancy Wolzen of Beatrice; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Arlene Dreher of Gretna, Ardella (Clinton) Olmstead of Arapahoe, Donna Peitzmeier of Lyons, and Maxine Burke of Gretna, as well as extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Robertson, sister Joyce, and brothers-in-law, Vernon Dreher, Jim Peitzmeier, and Gerald Burke.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington with Pastor Robert Litzenberger, officiating. A luncheon will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington following the Graveside Service.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Dolores A Robertson (1930-2024)

Faith Santo Hanzal, 97, of Stapleton, Nebraska, passed away on September 7, 2024 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska. Beloved only daughter of Frank Lee Santo and Cecyle Leila (Hamm) Santo, Faith was born in her grandparent’s sod house west of Stapleton on October 4, 1926. &nbsp;

Riding on horseback to attend a country school in northwest Logan County, Faith completed the 8th grade there, and then for two years she attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis. She then moved to Stapleton, living with the Teichert family, and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1944. &nbsp;Continuing her education at Kearney State Teachers College in Nebraska, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Home Economics in 1950. Faith met her future husband, Joseph Hanzal, in a history class at Kearney. On July 8, 1950, Faith Lee and Joseph A. Hanzal were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Kearney, and from that union were born three daughters: &nbsp;Beverly Jeanette, Amy Elizabeth, and Carla Marie. Faith and Joe both taught school at Hayes Center, Nebraska, for two years and at Gresham, Nebraska for four years. &nbsp;

In 1956, Faith and Joe returned to the family ranch, Santo Land and Cattle Company, in northwest Logan County. The ranch began as a Kinkaid Homestead acquired by her father, and the young Hanzal family answered the calling of stewardship for the Sandhills, wildlife, water, and cattle. Returning to the ranch came naturally to Faith, and for 49 years she and Joe worked tirelessly to improve the ranch and cattle. &nbsp;As a girl, Faith had enthusiastically helped her father with feeding cattle, checking wells, and milking cows. She vividly recalled the 1934 drought, when the ranch received a massive herd of starving cattle from Kansas. Shipped by rail to Gandy, the cattle were driven north to the Sandhills, where the ranch’s abundant water saved the cattle, whose coats were thickly encrusted with dirt. The north side of Faith’s home was black with flies escaping the heat, and she and her mother shooed them with dishcloths, as they prepared the food for the hired help that built fences, moved the cattle, and tended pumpjack engines that ensured constant streams of water. The dusty winds that blew that year deposited new seeds, ultimately improving the ranch’s forage. &nbsp;

Faith’s childhood also included some remarkable adventures with her mother’s family, including attending the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and viewing the original 1939 screening of The Wizard of Oz at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.

Known for her love of birds and chickens, Faith had a particular affinity for winged creatures. Migrating butterflies would see the beacon of Faith’s flower garden. She and Joe awoke one fall morning to see the cedar tree ablaze with thousands of monarchs. &nbsp;

Faith’s heart radiated with joy and gratitude. &nbsp;She loved her family and remained eager to hear all the news about her grandchildren. She was devoted to her community and dedicated her life to service. &nbsp;She loved to visit, and could usually determine how she might be related or know someone who was connected to you in some way. &nbsp;Faith had a particular gift for gardening and feeding people abundant meals. She remained devoted to her community throughout her life and participated in the Presbyterian Church Lifeboat Mariners, Lone Valley Extension Club, Farm Bureau, Sunshine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nebraska Cattle Women, and VFW Women’s Auxiliary, and was a member of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

Faith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant brother, Greyson Ray, and granddaughter Rachel Denise Johnson.

She is survived by daughters, Beverly (Gregg) Johnson, Amy (Mostafa) Kashi, Carla (David) Hanzal; grandchildren, Holly (Bobby) Graves, Kari (Shawn) Gerber, Michael Johnson, Evan, Ryan and Alex Kashi, and Helena Hanzal Childress; and great-grandchildren, Ryder, River and Rikely Graves.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stapleton Splash Pad Fund, the Logan County 4H Council or the Crane Trust.

&nbsp; Frances Cervantez was born September 4, 1928, to Rosalio and Agripina Sanchez in Chicago, IL.&nbsp; She passed away September 6, 2024, at The Maples at Centennial in North Platte at age 96. 

When she was young the family moved to Mexico where Frances grew up and attended school.&nbsp; She married, became a mother of 2 sons, and then a widow.&nbsp; Frances later married Jesse Cervantez of Hershey, NE, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.&nbsp; The couple raised their family in Hershey and Frances worked in Ogallala at TRW.

After retiring, Frances had more time for her hobbies such as sewing, gardening, and cooking enchiladas and holiday meals. She loved spending time with her family and giving everyone the "benedición" blessing. 

Frances was a woman of faith and will be greatly missed by all. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and sang in the choir, then later became a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, and daughter, Isabell Cervantez; her parents, Rosalio and Agripina Sanchez; brothers, Isidoro and José Sanchez; and sisters, Josefina Espinoza, Maria Godinez and a baby sister. Frances leaves behind her children, John (Rosie) Rodriguez and Lori Cervantez of North Platte and Adolfo "Rudy" (Beatrice) Rodriguez of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Priscilla (Derek) Voss, Stephanie Rodriguez, Monica (Roberto) Rodriguez-Velazquez and Natasha Martinez; great-grandchildren, Shayla, Jocylin, Annika, Lola, Madelyn, Ceven and Camila; her sister, Alvina Olmos of Corpus Christi, TX; and many other family members.

Sue grew up in Omaha and graduated from Benson High School. &nbsp;On April 27, 1973, she married Thomas Edward Ryan in Omaha, NE. &nbsp;She worked hard all her life doing everything from bartending, data entry, medical transcription and even Runza on B &amp; Jeffers late in her life. &nbsp;Her favorite thing though was to spend time with her grandchildren: Sarah, Philip, Chloe, Stephen, Paige, Quinn, Colin, Drew, Carol, Crystal, Tyler and Todd. &nbsp;Sue was active in her faith and a member of Harvest Christian Fellowship in North Platte where she had several close friends and loved ones. &nbsp;She looked forward to spending time with them each week, usually at Bible study or Saturday morning coffee. &nbsp;She was known and loved as “Grandma Sue” by generations of friends, dancers and gymnasts and she wore that as a badge of honor. &nbsp;Her greatest purpose in life was raising the next generation of kids. &nbsp;

Sue Ann Ryan (1944-2024)

Dwain Lee Gunther, aged 85, of Broken Bow, peacefully departed on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center.

&nbsp;Dwain Lee Gunther was born on March 19, 1939, to Cyrus and Eunice (Sevier) Gunther. In 1948, the family moved to the Ash Creek Community southwest of Broken Bow. Dwain attended Broken Bow High School and graduated in 1956. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958 and, after his service, returned to Broken Bow. On October 6, 1958, he married Emma Lou (Patrick) Gunther at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Dwain worked as a butcher at the Packing Plant for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and exploring the countryside.

&nbsp;Dwain is survived by his son Randell (Erin) of Chandler, AZ; daughter Tammy Mattox of Broken Bow; son Brad (Margie) of Panama Pacifico, Panama; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lou, his parents, brother Donald, sister Deloris Hendricks, and two infant sons, Ronald and Dennis.

Laura Renee Morey, 34, of Hershey, NE passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at home. &nbsp;She was born on December 18, 1989 at Great Plains Regional in North Platte, NE.

She is survived by her sons, Tucker DuBray and Kingston Edwards; parents, Tim A. Morey, of Hershey and Renee Sellers Lehmkuhl (Mark) of Lincoln; siblings, Daniel Lehmkuhl of Nashville, TN, Rachel Lehmkuhl of Alliance, Lisa (Jesse) Dawes of Dorchester, and David Lehmkuhl of Anaheim, CA; nephews Troy and Shane; and an aunt and cousins. &nbsp;

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Lois Buchholz, Stanley and Devona Sellers; and sister, Rebecca Lehmkuhl.&nbsp;

Kristi spent her entire life in Broken Bow living her dream of being a mom and grandma. She was a published writer and wrote many poems for her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, writing, hunting, fishing, trapping, and camping. She was an outdoors girl. She loved her family and spending time with all of them making memories brought her such joy. She was known for making everyone feel welcome and safe. She was a good listener and was nonjudgmental. She was loyal and a friend to all.

Kristi attended Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska, transferring to Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, Nebraska graduating with a certification in electronics technician.&nbsp;

Kristi is survived by her pride and joy, daughter Britainy Jones (fiancé Colby), and grandchildren Isaiah, Oliver, Sophie, Zoey, and Daxter, all of Ansley, NE. Donald and Shirley Jones, father and stepmother, of Ansley, NE. Siblings, Carla (Bud) Clark of Broken Bow, NE, Casey (Korrena) Jones of Ansley, NE, and Joshua (Shawna) Jones of Broken Bow, NE. She has many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. Kristi will be missed so very much.

Willard Kuhlman, 96, of Gothenburg, Nebraska passed away at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg on September 5, 2024.

Willard was born to Henry and Bessie (Shostrom) Kuhlman on a farm northeast of Gothenburg on January 16, 1928. He attended country school, and then went on to Gothenburg High School where he graduated in 1945. He served honorably in the Korean War from 1951 through 1952.

Willard married Della (Franzen) in 1954. Willard had began farming with his father, and he continued farming the Friesenborg place one mile east of Gothenburg after Della’s father passed away, and he and Della located there after their marriage. He continued to farm after Della’s passing in 1995. He married Marjorie (Malm) in 1999, and continued to farm until he decided it was no longer fun, and he retired in 2001.

Willard served on the School Board of Valley School for many years. He was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church where he often sang, taught Sunday School, and served on various committees. He was also a faithful member of The Gideon's International where he held various officer positions. Willard had a beautiful voice, and sang at many events and weddings throughout his lifetime. In his younger years he enjoyed pitching horseshoes, and won a Championship in Cozad. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with his children and grandchildren, and looked forward to working the daily newspaper puzzles. He also enjoyed following sports throughout his life, particularly Husker sports, and baseball.

Willard loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The time spent with his family was very precious to him. He especially looked forward to the times when the whole family gathered every year for Fourth of July and Christmas celebrations. Willard’s love for his family is surpassed only by his love of The Lord.  He loved reading and studying the Bible, and teaching others about the scriptures.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie, son Kirk (Loretta), Andover, KS, daughter Marsha Herlevi, Sterling Heights, MI, and son Phil (Bertha) Kuhlman, Gothenburg. Five Grandchildren:  Andrew (fiancé, Olivia) Kuhlman, Boston, MA, Anna (Josiah) Erdmann, Grand Island, Morgan Herlevi, Lansing, MI, Victoria (Jeremy) Kilway, Westminster, CO, Charlie and AJ GrabbingBear, Lincoln, and two (soon to be three) great-grandchildren Aspen and Ava Kilway, and his sister, Joan (Kuhlman) Johnson, Aurora, CO. Willard was also a grandpa to Samantha Stevens, Christopher and Jacob Shaffner, Jasmine Vargas and Aiden Moncivais.

Willard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Della, brother Brian, and son-in-law Michael Herlevi.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024,&nbsp; Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE, with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.&nbsp;

Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 2:30 pm.

Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Willard Kuhlman (1928-2024)

Pamela Ann Slack, 81, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 5, 2024 in Kearney, NE.

Pamela Ann Nelson Slack was born June 20, 1943 in Callaway, NE to Elvin A and Eleanor D Helberg Nelson.&nbsp;

In 1947, the family moved to Tallin Table and Pam attended Tallin School until the 3rd grade. In 1952, the family moved to Gothenburg. Pam graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1961.&nbsp;

During high school, Pam worked at Powers Bakery where she met her future husband, Ray Slack. Ray and Pam were married on August 6, 1961. A son Elvin joined the family on March 14, 1963.

During her senior year of high school she started working for First State Bank. She and Ray also owned and operated the Gothenburg Bakery from 1963 to 1970. Pam semi-retired from First State Bank in June of 2013. She continued to work part time over the next few years.&nbsp;

She was very active in the community; serving on the Gothenburg Planning and Zoning (served as the chair for numerous years), Chamber of Commerce - including president for a year, Gothenburg Public School Foundation (treasure), Pony Express Foundation (treasure), and Financial Women International (serving as group president, state president and on the national board.) She was very active serving her Lord at the Evangelical Free Church on various committees. She also served on the Gothenburg Senior Center Board and the Historical Museum Board.&nbsp;

The loves of her life were her husband, son and granddaughter Sadie. Ray passed away in August of 2014. She loved to travel and after retirement she went often to see Elvin and Sadie. She loved her bank family where she worked for over 48 years. They were a second family to her and were always there to support her thru the years.

She is survived by her son Elvin of Cozad; granddaughter Sadie Slack of Nashville; Sadie's mother Sarah Vaughn-Rohrbough of Nashville; niece Lori (Lee) Mattingly of Gig Harborm, WA; Lincoln Nelson of CO; and special friends, Aaron, Sara, Caleb, Luke and Titus Coleman.&nbsp;

Preceding her death were her parents, husband and brother Rand E. Nelson.

Services will be held at Cornerstone Bible Church, September 20, 2024 at 10:00 am with Pastor Scott Newman and Ann Sukraw-Lutz officiating.&nbsp;

Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Senior Center, Cornerstone Bible Church, Gothenburg Historical Museum.

Cole Wayne Welliver, 70, of Ogallala, formerly of Lexington, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, Nebraska.

He was born on April 16, 1954, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Vernon "Doc" and Elleanor "Ellie" (Dodge) Welliver. He attended school in Lexington and graduated from St. Ann's High School with the class of 1972. Cole lived in Lexington his entire life until 2021, when he moved to Ogallala.&nbsp;

Cole was an avid sports fanatic, with his favorite teams being the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the New York Yankees. If he wasn't watching sports, he was watching some of his favorite old cartoons. Cole loved going to the local bowling alley, where he spent over 18 years as scorekeeper for the bowling leagues.&nbsp;

Survivors include his niece, Samantha (Shad) Mann of Brady, Nebraska; nephew, Travis (Chrystal) Welliver of Valentine, Nebraska; great niece and nephews, Trevor Mann of Brady, Nebraska, Mariah Welliver of Lead, South Dakota, and Andrew Philbrick of Valentine, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Phyllis Welliver of Lead, South Dakota; special friends, Larry and Tish Daugherty of Lexington, and his Bowling Alley buddies.

Besides his parents, Cole was preceded in death by his brother, Craig Welliver.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
