Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday afternoon, July 25, 2024 at McCook Christian Church in McCook with Pastor Clark Bates officiating.&nbsp; Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook will follow services.&nbsp; Honoring Norma's wishes, the casket will remain closed.&nbsp; Services will be livestreamed on the McCook Christian Church Facebook page for those that are unable to attend.

Donald D. “Don” Schmidt, 94, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on July 22, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born July 19, 1930 to Charles and Ann Schmidt in Cozad, Nebraska. &nbsp;

Don was raised in Blue Hill, Nebraska. In 1952 he entered the Marines. &nbsp;He served in Korea, where he earned a Purple Heart and the following honors: Unit Korean War Service, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, National Defense United Nations Service Medal. After his discharge in 1954 Don moved to North Platte. &nbsp;He drove a truck most of his life and worked for the State of Nebraska from 1998-2010. &nbsp;Don married Sandra Creech. To this union 4 children were born: Wesley, Rodney, Cynthia and Mark. &nbsp;On May 27, 1963 he married Dorothy Lunkwitz and to this union, 3 children were added: Terry, Joni and Gary. &nbsp;He was a member of the 1st Lutheran Church since 1983. &nbsp;Don enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, playing pool and shuffleboard and enjoyed going gambling in Nevada. &nbsp;He was a member of VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge. &nbsp;Don was an avid Husker fan.

Estela graduated from high school with the class of 1975 in Crystal City, Texas. &nbsp;Then attended college for a year in Fargo, North Dakota before moving to North Platte where she began work for the Social Security Administration. &nbsp;She was united in marriage to Paul Clemmons Jr. in 1981, Amil Horn in 1988, then Pat Irish on March 22, 2007 in Crystal City, Texas. &nbsp;Estella enjoyed traveling and fishing with Pat. &nbsp;She loved her family, especially her grandkids. Putting puzzles together, watching tv, dancing and having a good time were her favorite pastimes. &nbsp;

Harlan Frederick Lueck (1928-2024)

Sandra Lee (Stark) Nye, age 81, passed away on April 8, 2024, at her home at Lake McConaughy.&nbsp; She was born August 27, 1942, in Kearney, Nebraska to Glenn and Maryferne Stark.&nbsp; Sandy graduated from Kearney High School in 1960. She received a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Sandy taught elementary vocal music and junior high instrument music courses in the Ogallala public schools. She was an influential teacher and mentor to many community members throughout her career in education.

Sandy was married to Larry Robb Nye of Ogallala, Nebraska on March 29, 1969.&nbsp; They welcomed a son Shane Patrick Nye in October of 1972.&nbsp;

Her love of music was always present.&nbsp; She sang in the Methodist Church choirs and community choirs of both Chadron and Ogallala. Highlights include directing the Ogallala summer band, performing in weddings, and participating with many other vocal groups from around the area.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sandy was a proud Scouting Den Mother with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorer Post.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking and led a group of AAUW ladies in Gourmet cooking.

Larry and Sandy Nye celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this March.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Maryferne Stark and brother Glen Eric Stark.

Sandy is survived by husband Larry Nye, son Shane Nye and his wife Amanda, grandchildren Kinley and Colton Elliott and Sheyden Nye, sister Deborah Day, and family.

Memorial Services for Sandy Nye will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church at 421 North Spruce, Ogallala, Nebraska.

Sandra "Sandy" L. (Stark) Nye (1942-2024)

Donald J. Tuma, 90, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at his home.

Don was born on October 16, 1933, in Grand Island, Nebraska to John and Blanche (Naperstek) Tuma. Don attended public schools in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1953. Following high school, Don enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War, until he was honorably discharged on February 16, 1956.

Following his discharge, Don moved back to Lexington where he started working for the Pfeifer and Newman Funeral Home. He then reunited with the love of his life, Bonnie Scott. They were united in marriage on September 14, 1957, in Lexington and later made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this union: Don Jr., Cathy and Mike. On June 16, 1958, he embarked on a 15-year career with the Nebraska State Patrol. In 1973, his family moved back to Lexington where Don worked for Big Valley Sales, did construction with Gary Shubert and sons before going out on his own, working as a carpenter, doing construction and working on garage doors.

Don was a hardworking man, who loved being productive, whether it be tinkering around the house or doing chores. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Cathy (Max) Reynolds of Lexington and Mike (Evelyn) Tuma of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Matthew, Rachel and Jacob, many great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; his son, Don Jr., and three brothers, Leonard, Jerome and David.

The family has chosen cremation and there will be no services.

Donald James Tuma Sr. (1933-2024)

Mark&nbsp;Gutz was born June 4, 1960, at Schuyler, NE. &nbsp;He died July 14, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following a long struggle with mental illness.&nbsp;

Mark, the son of Albert and Loverna Gutz, grew up with a very God-centered family in Shelby, NE. &nbsp;After graduating from high school, he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad. &nbsp;Mark started in Maintenance of Way then became an Engineer and Hostler in the yards, and when he went out, it was on the southern route to Morel, NE. His job brought him to North Platte in 1988.

On December 31, 1990, Mark married Lisa Blea. They had three children, Carl, Regis and Nicole, and later divorced when the kids were in high school.&nbsp;

Mark regularly attended New Life Church. &nbsp;He enjoyed gardening, fishing, listening to music and traveling. &nbsp;When Mark's young son Carl died in 1990, his life changed as he began suffering from mental illness.

He is survived by his children, Regis Gutz and Nicole Gutz (Billy Wright), and former wife, Lisa Nelsen (Kelly), all of North Platte; siblings, Gregory Gutz (Alice) of Fremont, Timothy Gutz (Dixie) and Lori Borchers (Terry) of Columbus, and Becky "Little Bro" Rose (John) of New Castle, WY; brother-in-law, Matt Thomas of Genoa; and other family.

Along with his son, Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kimberley Thomas; sister-in-law, Pamela Gutz; and a grandchild.

Mark&nbsp;Gutz was born June 4, 1960, at Schuyler, NE. &nbsp;He died July 14, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following a long struggle with mental illness.&nbsp;Mark, the son of Albert and Loverna Gutz, grew up with a very God-centered family in Shelby, NE. &nbsp;After graduating from high school, he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad. &nbsp;Mark started in Maintenance of Way then became an Engineer and Hostler in the yards, and when he went out, it was on the southern route to Morel, NE. His job brought him to North Platte in 1988.On December 31, 1990, Mark married Lisa Blea. Mark Gutz (1960-2024)

Connie B. Larson, 83, passed away on July 20, 2024 at Gothenburg Health. She was surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.&nbsp;

She was born on June 8, 1941, in Sylva, North Carolina, to William and Evelyn (Bodenstab) Mahaffy. Connie went to school in North Platte until her family moved to Lincoln her junior and senior year, where she graduated from high school in 1959. She also spent a year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. On December 26, 1960 she married Richard Larson in North Platte, NE. They moved to Gothenburg in 1964 where they made their home and raised their family. She worked at Jobman's and Nebraska Salt and Grain during her career.

Connie enjoyed antiquing, spending time with family and friends, attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities, enjoying coffee and lunches with friends, as well as actively participating in volunteer work for the museum, meals on wheels, scouts, and Jaycees. Her church family was very important to her and she was on many committees over the years.&nbsp;

Connie and Dick were named grand marshals of the Harvest Festival Parade in 2019. She will be remembered for her strong spirit and unwavering commitment to both her family and the community.

Connie is survived by her loving husband Richard Leon Larson; children Debbie (Dirk) Rubenthaler, Todd Larson, John Larson; grandchildren Joey Rubenthaler, Kayla Bittner, Cody Larson, Stephanie Bundy, Amanda Jensen, Christopher Larson, Noah Larson; great-grandchildren Kade, Levi, Jack, Aubree Rubenthaler; Brenna and Ella Bittner; Dax Bundy; Evelyn and Charlie Larson; Wesley Jensen. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Julie) Mahaffy; brother-in-law Royce Larson; sister-in-law Barb (Kern) Harshbarger.

She is preceded in death by her parents William and Evelyn Mahaffy, in-laws Leonard and Gladys Larson, great-grandson Levi Rubenthaler; nephew Scott Mahaffy and sister-in-law Lennie Larson.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, July 25, 2024, 4:00 - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Robert Crosby age 81 of Kearney, NE formerly of Merna passed away July 18, 2024, at the Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Kearney, NE.

Robert Alan Crosby was born February 28, 1943, in Norfolk, NE to Lyle and Alice (Eacker) Crosby. Robert grew up on the family farm North of Spalding. Robert attended school at Barlett, graduating from Wheeler Central High School.

July 26, 1967, Robert joined the United States Navy, he was Honorably Discharged November 17, 1969. After the Navy, Robert farmed in the Spalding area for a while before moving to the Merna area, working for Karl Safranek for 17 years, then working for Frank and Lynn Bartak until September of 2001, when Robert had a stroke and retired, working for the Bartak’s part time. In 2019, Robert moved to the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, where he resided until his death.

Robert’s hobbies included driving the back roads and spending time with family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Alice, two brothers Dick Crosby and Jerry Crosby, and a daughter Becky Crosby.

Robert is survived by his children Tina Crosby of Cairo, Brenda Crosby Holtorf of Gladstone, MO, Laura Crosby Goldade of Timberlake, SD, David Crosby of Cairo, and Andy Crosby of Kearney, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Wayne Alben Cook passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Born on January 27, 1982, in Oberlin, KS, to Merlin A. and Vickie L. (Province) Cook, Wayne spent his early years on a farm south of McCook, where he developed a deep love for animals and participated in 4-H. Wayne attended McCook Public Schools and graduated in 2000, later earning an associate’s degree in construction from Mid-Plains Community College.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Wayne married Jenny L. Lukas on July 24, 2004. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared passions, including hunting, fishing, woodworking, and tool collecting. Wayne had a fulfilling career with the State of Nebraska Department of Roads, where he painted roads and managed snow removal, forming close bonds with his coworkers.

&nbsp; &nbsp; In 2017, Wayne joyfully became an uncle to Emmett James Laya and treasured his role in the lives of his nieces and nephews, visiting family in California when he could and spending time with his cousins' children. In 2016, Wayne and Jenny returned to McCook, where Wayne worked for the City of McCook at the solid waste transfer station. He took great pride in his work and was dedicated to building relationships with “family” (everyone!).

&nbsp; &nbsp; Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Merlin Cook; aunt, Brenda Smith; uncles, Harold Cook and Ed Quaduor; grandparents, Bob and Neva Province, Wade and Grace Cook, Louis Parks, Larry Lukas, and Cathy Hilderbrand; and his beloved dogs, Pebbles, Sophie, Samantha, Addie, and Bailey.

Wayne Cook (1982-2024)

Christopher "Chris" Hurley, aged 53, passed away at Great Plains Health on July 13th, 2024. Chris was born on September 1st, 1970, to Thomas and Terry Hurley in Belle Fouche, SD, the 1st of 4 children. He graduated high school in 1989 in Gillette, WY. He worked his favorite job for over 20 years being a Transportation Engineer for the Railroad first at DMNE and later at UPRR. He also went to College at Mid Plains Community College and completed his program in Welding alongside his son, Sean.

In 1990, Chris met his future wife Denise and they married in 1992. They enjoyed their lives and family together for 32 years. Chris was a family man and loved his entire family with everything he had, being the best husband, father, son and brother he could be. Chris was an innate helper and was there to lend a helping hand whenever he could. Some even called his help "Hurley's Hoisting and Hauling Service" which always made him smile.

Chris held close his faith that he would be resurrected with perfect health on a paradise earth, based on John 5: 28, 29.

He was preceded in death by his father Tom and his brother Anthony.

Chris is survived by his wife Denise; daughter Ciara; son Sean; mother Terry; brother Matthew; sister Michelle; nephews Isaiah and Jameson, and nieces Erica and Emmalee.

Polly is survived by her children, Mark (Carol) Gutherless of North Platte, Randall Gutherless of Waco, TX, Mary (Bill) Elliott of North Platte, Jo (Andy) Shipshock of Thornton, CO; grandchildren, Tyson Gutherless of Broomfield, CO, Spencer (Angelo) Vieyra of North Platte, Marcus Gutherless of Kearney, Hunter (Raquel), Hayden, Jackson and Patrick Shipshock of Thornton, CO; great grandsons, Kross William and Graham Franklin Vieyra of North Platte.

Marilyn "Polly" Kay Foust (1934-2024)

Johny Joe Foster, 80, of Kearney, Nebraska, died July 20, 2024 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp;

Johny was born Johnny Wilson in North Platte, Nebraska to John Daniel and May Elizabeth (Sukraw) Wilson on October 8, 1943. He spent most of his childhood in and around the North Platte area. Johny graduated from North Platte High School in 1962. John Daniel was killed in a car wreck when Johnny was about 6 years old. In 1949, May married Frank Foster, bringing along three little boys: Johny, Raymond, and Ivan.

Johny spent from 1965 to 2003 working for the UP Railroad out of North Platte. He was drafted into the army in February of 1967 and was sent to Vietnam. He spent many months in the jungle where he earned a purple heart. He came home with many issues from being exposed to agent orange.

Johny married Phyllis Scofield/Brown in Cheyenne, WY on February 14, 1991. They resided there until moving back to Nebraska in 1997. They lived overlooking Lake McConaughy and in Ogallala until 2012 when they moved to Johnstown, CO for 10 years, then back to Nebraska in 2022. They remained in Kearney, Nebraska until his death.

Johny's favorite thing to do was ride his motorcycles and travel. After he retired, he and Phyllis enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their motor home. They were fortunate enough to travel to almost all of the states in the United States, visiting Canada and Mexico also. In his later years he enjoyed collecting guns and spending time at the gun range.

Johny is survived by his wife of 33 years Phyllis, three children: Robin, Rebecca, Steven; three step children: Kendra (Mike) Anderson, Kevin(Shelia) Brown, Greg (Zhonette) Brown; one brother, Raymond (Cheryl) Foster; many grandchildren great grandchildren, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, his parents, one brother, Ivan, and one niece, Kim Foster.

Celebration of Life will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, August 9, 2024 at 10:00 am.&nbsp;

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.

He spent most of his childhood in and around the North Platte area. Johny graduated from North Platte High School in 1962. John Daniel was killed in a car wreck when Johnny was about 6 years old. In 1949, May married Frank Foster, bringing along three little boys: Johny, Raymond, and Ivan.Johny spent from 1965 to 2003 working for the UP Railroad out of North Platte. He was drafted into the army in February of 1967 and was sent to Vietnam. He spent many months in the jungle where he earned a purple heart. He came home with many issues from being exposed to agent orange.Johny married Phyllis Scofield/Brown in Cheyenne, WY on February 14, 1991. They resided there until moving back to Nebraska in 1997. They lived overlooking Lake McConaughy and in Ogallala until 2012 when they moved to Johnstown, CO for 10 years, then back to Nebraska in 2022. Arlene Birney, age 91 of Broken Bow, NE passed away July 19, 2024, at the Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Phyllis Arlene (North) Birney was born October 3, 1932, along with her twin brother Robert Arlo North. They were the first of 10 kids born to Sears and Olive (Dowling) North.

Arlene graduated from Dow City High School and went on to graduate from Nursing School.

Arlene was united in marriage to Clemet Birney on August 19, 1956, and was blessed with four children: Robert Edward, Sharon Louise, Glen Clemet, and Bonnie Jean.

Arlene is survived by her son Robert (Susan) Birney of Washington State, daughter Sharon Hansen of Broken Bow, and daughter Bonnie (Kevin) Wright of Broken Bow, daughter-in-law Peggy Birney of Broken Bow, sister Shirley Garrett of Dow City, IA, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Clemet, son Glen, siblings Arlo, Don, Olive Mae, Jim, John, Glenn, La Nora, and Mary Lou, granddaughter Heather, and great-grandson Taten.

Arlene Birney (1932-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie Gene Spady, aged 73, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, in Omaha, Neb. He was born on Jan. 25, 1951, to Harold and Donna Spady, in Imperial, Neb. He graduated from Chase County High School in 1969 and married Teri Smith in 1973. They made their home and raised their four sons in Imperial. They recently moved to McCook, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp;An accomplished carpenter by trade, Lennie’s skill and passion for his work were evident in every project he undertook. His hands shaped wood into beautiful creations, reflecting his meticulous nature and commitment to excellence as evidenced by the many homes he touched in some way throughout Chase County.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Beyond his trade, Lennie’s dedication to his family was evident throughout the years. He shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Teri, building three homes and completely remodeling another while creating many cherished memories over all those years. Lennie was a proud father and grandfather enjoying taking his boys hunting and fishing in their younger years, coaching baseball, and then making memories teaching his grandsons to drive and following their love of sports.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie’s life was also deeply rooted in his faith. He had a profound love for the Bible, drawing strength and guidance from its teachings throughout his life.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lennie was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Donna, brothers-in-law Gary Greeley and Steve Smith, and son Adam, whose memory he cherished deeply.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Lennie is survived by his wife, Teri, sons Troy, Nick (Leah), and Jon (Amber), daughter-in-law Lynn, siblings Garry (Sharon), Dawanna Greeley, Dwight, Kyle (Dana), grandchildren Mason (Danae), Tyler, Trevor, Trea, Toby, and Daisy, mother-in-law Rosie Molzahn, brothers-in-law Mike (Ann) Smith, Dick (Susie) Smith, sister-in-law Peggy Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Lennie Spady’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, craftsmanship, and faith.

Leroy H. Cooper, 72, of North Platte, NE passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.&nbsp; Leroy was born on June 5, 1952 to Raymond and Leora (Paul) Cooper in Cheyenne, WY.

Leroy graduated high school and proceeded to marry Sandy Sneed early on in his life. To this union were born his sons Robert and Rodney Cooper who remained his pride and joy until his passing.

Leroy spent much of his younger years traveling, exploring nature wherever he roamed. The twists and turns of life took him from the scenic mountains and beaches of California to the bountiful marshes of Florida. During his travels, he continued his hobbies of fishing and hunting, picking up his beloved Irish Setter dogs Jigger and Willie along the way. He loved his dogs and spent many an evening enjoying the outdoors with them. Leroy also worked for Union Pacific as a track grinder for many years, ensuring the safe travels of many conductors and materials.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters who died in infancy, brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Betty Cooper, brother-in-law Daniel Bunce, and nephew Joseph Bunce.

Leroy is survived by his two sons Robert (Michelle) Cooper of Arnold, MO, and Rodney of Arnold, MO; sisters Linda Bunce of Centennial, CO, and Laurie Keefer of North Platte; brother Richard Cooper of North Platte; three grandsons, three granddaughters, seven nephews, four nieces, two great grandchildren, and numerous great nephews and nieces.

Charles "Chuck" W. Green, age 89, passed away surrounded by loved ones in McCook, NE, on July 16, 2024.

Charles was born on January 6, 1935, to parents William and Minnie (Ferwerda) Green in McHenry, IL. Charles graduated from high school in 1953 and went to Cornell University on a wrestling scholarship. He graduated with his bachelors in 1957.&nbsp;

He married the love of his life Mary Susan Crady in Denver, CO in 1965, and from this union, Heather and Brendan were born. Charles was a wrestling coach and teacher in Cheyenne Wells, CO for many years before he moved to McCook, NE in 2002. In McCook, he worked in the Physical Plant Department at McCook Community College.&nbsp;

Charles will be remembered for being a hard worker, a kind heart, a great sense of humor, and family oriented. Charles and Mary would follow the kids and grandchildren to support them in their activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brother, Jim Green.

Judy Catt (1943-2024)

Gerald “Jerry” Smith, age 76, of Palisade NE, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at his home near Florence, AZ, with family by his side, after a long battle with cancer.&nbsp;

Jerry was born February 21, 1948, to parents Ralph E. and Gladys E. Smith at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook NE. He was one of three sons who grew up in Palisade, attending and graduating from Palisade High School in 1966. Following graduation, he attended McCook Community College for two years.&nbsp;

On June 8, 1968, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Jenene K. Phares, in the Palisade United Methodist Church. Together, they moved, with their young son, Jeffrey, to Kearney NE, where they both attended Kearney State College. Jerry graduated in 1971, with a bachelor's degree in business administration. While in Kearney, he worked for various area Pizza Hut restaurants and was eventually offered a manager’s position in Grand Island, NE where he helped build and manage a new location there.&nbsp;

In the fall of 1973, Jerry moved his family to his parents’ farm northeast of Palisade where he, in addition to farming, raised cattle. Several years later, he served on the Board of Directors of AmFirst Bank of Hayes Center.&nbsp;

In January of 1977, son, Matthew, was born. From an early age, Jerry instilled in both his sons a strong work ethic, a love of farming the land, along with an enjoyment of hunting, fishing, camping and golf.&nbsp;

In 2009, Jerry and Jenene began traveling to Arizona for the winters, later retiring there enjoying many activities such as hiking, playing pickleball and bocce ball, and traveling to many locations including touring the great state of Arizona in their red Corvette. Jerry liked socializing with other retirees and expressing his love and support of the Cornhusker football and volleyball programs as well as sharing his passion for farming.&nbsp;

Special loved ones in his life were his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their school and sporting events.&nbsp;

Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents, one brother; Charles, sisters-in-law Minnie Smith and Nicole Smith.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate his life include his loving wife, Jenene, of Florence, AZ, sons Jeffrey Smith of Palisade NE and Matthew (Jamie) Smith of Chandler AZ; one brother, Donald Smith, of Sarasota FL; four grandchildren including Samual Smith and Madison Smith of Palisade NE and Jackson Smith and Kate Smith of Chandler AZ two sisters-in-law, DeAnna Schutte of Ravenna NE and Judy Malone of Scobey MT, as well as several nieces and nephews, many friends and his faithful dog, Maggie.&nbsp;

Gerald "Jerry" Alan Smith (1948-2024)

Karen Troyer, aged 79, a beloved figure of North Platte, Nebraska, sadly left our world on July 16th, 2024, after a life lived richly in service and kindness. &nbsp;On February 27th, 1945, she was born to Clifford and Margaret (Waugh) McNeel in Los Angeles, CA.

Karen married Dan Troyer on October 6, 1963, just a few months upon graduating high school. &nbsp;They were blessed with two sons, Brad and Kyle. &nbsp;The couple lived in North Platte as they raised their children and worked at several places, a memorable one being the Sale Barn, where Karen thoroughly enjoyed the people she became familiar with and enjoyed working around.

Being a grandma was especially important to Karen and she loved spending as much time with her grandkids as possible. &nbsp;She was a lifetime member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte. &nbsp;Karen was a 50 plus member of the Velvet Spurs Riding Club, which celebrated their 55th anniversary just last year. &nbsp;She also became a member of the Buffalo Bill Rodeo Queen Committee in 1985, where she found her passion for pageants and rodeo queens. &nbsp;After the Miss Rodeo Nebraska title was moved to North Platte, Karen immediately joined the Association. &nbsp;Upon joining the Association 33 years ago, she has participated in nearly every volunteer opportunity; she chaired the pageant committee, served as assistant director, aided with sponsorships, chaperoned dozens of young ladies, and helped wherever she was needed. &nbsp;Karen dedicated 28 years to the Miss Rodeo America Inc. and the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, serving on multiple committees over the years. &nbsp;Karen was a member of The Troop, which is a group of her high school classmates, a Teammates mentor, and an elementary school class aid. &nbsp;She was a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness and has left an incredible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. &nbsp;

Those that precede Karen in death include her parents; her son, Brad; and her brother, Kim. &nbsp;Karen was the last surviving member of the “Four Golden Girls”; the three preceding her being Mardee Swanson, Sharon Halligan, and Betty Priel.

Karen will be a guiding star for all who knew her and she is leaving a legacy through her husband of 60 years, Dan Troyer; her son, Kyle Troyer; sister, Kelly (Vern) Ehlers; grandkids, JD (fiancé, Cassie) Troyer, Landon (Taylor) Troyer, Lacey (Andrew) Dalton, Ryce Troyer, Calie Troyer; great granddaughters, Bradleigh Troyer, Logan Dalton, Collins Dalton; daughters-in-law, Jacque (Steve) Stadler of Minden, Yvette Troyer of Hershey; several other family members and a vast amount of friends. &nbsp;

Karen Troyer (1945-2024)

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of our Mother and Grandmother, Florence Naomi Ruth Belle Stout. She died, Sunday, July 14th, 2024, after a fierce struggle with respiratory issues that were exacerbated by flood waters she was trapped in last year when she lost her home and all belongings. She died peacefully and happy in knowing her family was surrounding her as she drew her last breath.

She was born in Pueblo, Colorado on December 18, 1940, and made her home in Stratton, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by our beloved Dad, Deorman, and brother, Robert, her parents Clyde Reynolds (Ruth) and Oma Long (Joe), and her siblings, Wayne Reynolds, and Lucille Bangert.

She is survived by her children, Ruth Marie (Burl), Betty (Dennis), Thomas (Charla), Clyde (JoDee), Patty, Suzi, and Emmett (Kelli), and 42 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, her siblings, Mike (Pat), Debbie (Robert), and Nancy, and her sweet little dog, Schmidt, who survived the flood with her and who, with great energy and enthusiasm, was her constant companion and delight. Her granddaughter Macey and her little Schmidt were constant sources of support and care over the last year of her life as she healed and rebuilt from the flood.

Ruth worked in nursing for over thirty years, primarily in the ER and as a flight nurse providing professional nursing care in an air transport environment. She was a woman of great faith and many contrasts and interests, who loved the Catholic Church, the Rosary, nursing, learning, sewing, quilting, natural healing, and a spirited conversation.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2024, 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., family receiving from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Rosary, 7:00 p.m. at Adam and Swanson’s Funeral home on 421 West 4th Street, North Platte, NE. Family Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, North Platte, NE. Burial immediately following at Paxton Cemetery in Paxton, Nebraska. Monte G. Kiffin, 84 of Redington Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Oxford, Mississippi.

Monte Kiffin, the small town kid from Lexington, Nebraska went on to become one of the most influential defensive coaches in NFL history. Kiffin began his career in 1966, at the University of Nebraska where they won two National Championships during his time there. He quickly became one of the most respected defensive minds in football history, working with numerous teams but, most notably, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; where he was considered the mastermind of the “Tampa Two” defense that helped lead them to their first Super Bowl championship in 2002. &nbsp;He was inducted into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor in 2021 and &nbsp;just&nbsp;last month, he was awarded the Pro Football Hall of Fame Award of Excellence for his outstanding work in the league.
