&nbsp; BETTY JOAN LARSEN, 92, of Grant, passed away on August 19, 2022, at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Betty was born March 26, 1930, at Madrid, Nebraska, to LeRoy and Clarice (McPheeters) Shuey. She graduated from Grant High School with the class of 1947. On August 7, 1949, Betty married Keith Larsen. The couple made their home on the family farm 10 miles northeast of Grant, where they farmed and raised their children. Betty was a support on the farm in countless ways, from hauling bales to driving the grain truck. In later years, she enjoyed working at the county treasurer's office and, later, Dana F. Cole in Ogallala. Betty loved to get dressed up and was always put together. Her heart was always with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved BINGO, board games, and playing cards. Her family has countless cherished memories made over games of Chase the Ace, Pitch, and Pinochle, among many others. She also loved to dance with her husband whenever she got the chance. Betty was a devoted member of TOPS and the Red Hat Society for many years. She served with her husband on the Fair and Grant rural fire boards for many years; she was an avid volunteer with the Bloodmobile and Perkins County election board. To say Betty was gregarious would be an understatement. She loved to visit and meet new people. If there was someone new at BINGO, Betty served as the unofficial welcoming committee. She was bright-eyed and inquisitive. Betty had a cheery demeanor that she wore on her sleeve, even in the midst of difficult days. On Friday, Betty was enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, BINGO, when God called her to Himself to rejoin her husband, children, and family. &nbsp; Charlotte Mahoney Werts was born May 24, 1928, in Chariton, IA. She peacefully passed away at the age of 94 while residing at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont, NE. Charlotte, the seventh of John and Cora Mahoney's nine children, lived in Chariton throughout most of her childhood and graduated from Chariton High School. On November 10, 1946, Charlotte was united in marriage to Roger Werts.&nbsp; They initially lived in Chariton, later moved to Muscatine, IA, and then resided in Bettendorf, IA.&nbsp; They moved to North Platte, NE, in 1971 and later to Post Falls, ID.&nbsp; Their retirement years were spent in Mesa, AZ, until returning to North Platte to be closer to family. Charlotte was a homemaker for her five children.&nbsp; She served as room mother, den mother and assistant Brownie leader, and was active at Asbury Methodist Church in Bettendorf.&nbsp; Charlotte enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, cake decorating and singing.&nbsp; In retirement, she sang with the Leisure Time Belles. Charlotte loved people and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone. Charlotte Werts (1928-2022)

Kerry Paul Hookstra passed into eternity unexpectedly at Great Plains Regional Hospital in Elk City, Oklahoma, at the age of 74 on August 14, 2022.

He is survived by his wife Renetta Hookstra of Sayre, Oklahoma, and his son Kyle Hookstra of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Hazel Hookstra of Ansley, NE, his brothers Keith Hookstra of Stanton, NE, and Kevin Hookstra of Vici, OK, and his son Kip Hookstra of Portales, NM.

Kerry was born November 5, 1947, in Loup City, NE, to Paul and Hazel Hookstra. He graduated from Ansley High School in 1965 and followed with attending the University of Nebraska and graduated with a teaching degree. Further educational pursuits took him to Platte Valley Bible College, Gordon-Conwell Seminary, Pacific Christian College (Master of Divinity), and Abilene Christian University (Master of Divinity). Though teaching was his initial pursuit, holding teacher positions in Morrill, NE, and Homer, AK, it was as a minister that he spent most of his life. He was ordained as a preacher in January 1977 at the Church at Bryant, Scottsbluff, NE, and retired from full-time ministry in 2017. During that time, he served in independent Christian Churches in Sutton, NE; Carmen, OK; Scott City, KS; Bayard, NE; Wellington, TX; Erick, OK; Downs, KS. In retirement, he also filled the pulpit for multiple churches. Kerry deeply felt that one of the best ways he could show the love of Christ was through his involvement in his local community. He could often be found drinking coffee with friends, actively participating in Lion’s and Rotary Clubs, and visiting neighbors and friends. His love for local school sports teams also was extremely evident and a great source of pride for Kerry. He parlayed this passion into journalistic endeavors writing sports stories in several newspapers for countless games and matches. His articles often gave recaps and summaries for student athletes who otherwise may well have gone unrecognized. Throughout his life, Kerry excelled at making friends, retention of details and names, having a positive outlook on most any situation, and filling a potluck plate.

His life was also marked by his enjoyment of many things, but perhaps most of all he enjoyed the Nebraska Cornhuskers, clearance racks, puns, talking to strangers, moderating academic bowls, and a reason to drive somewhere.

His presence, laugh, and joviality will be greatly missed.

A memorial service is scheduled for August 27th at 11am at the First Christian Church in Sayre, OK. A graveside service is scheduled for August 31st at 11am at Ansley Cemetery in Ansley, NE. &nbsp; &nbsp; June Ellen McDonald was born on July 12, 1953 in Alma, Nebraska to Orville and Mildred (Schilz) Hazelton.&nbsp; Orville died from the results of an automobile accident when June was very young.&nbsp; Mildred married Jake Heinbigner and June would always consider him to be her dad.&nbsp; June attended school in Culbertson and graduated with the class of 1972.&nbsp; She continued her education at the McCook Beauty Academy and started a long career as a hairstylist and cosmetologist. &nbsp; &nbsp; June met Rick McDonald at a concert in McCook and it was love at first sight.&nbsp; After just a few months they were united in marriage at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson on April 30, 1978.&nbsp; June and Rick would live their entire lives in Culbertson where they would welcome three children: Melissa, Christina, and AJ.&nbsp; June worked for Aphrodite Hair Design in McCook for many years before opening her own salon in Culbertson.&nbsp; Later in life, she worked at Southwest Area Training Center in McCook until failing health forced her to retire. &nbsp; &nbsp; June was a member of the Methodist Church and was active with the Methodist Women.&nbsp; She enjoyed time and activities at the senior center and spent many hours creating beautiful ceramics.&nbsp; June was always quick with a smile and a kind word.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. Her fried chicken dinners were a true treat in the McDonald household.

&nbsp; &nbsp; June passed away early Monday morning, August 22, 2022 at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton.&nbsp; She was 69 years of age.

June McDonald (1953-2022)

Donald Roman Reyes, 81, of Hershey, Nebraska passed away August 21, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.&nbsp; He was born April 13, 1941 to Elias and Nativadad (Roman) Reyes in McCook, Nebraska.

Don grew up in McCook as a young man, but later moved to Hershey, Nebraska on a farm near family.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Tomasita “Tommie” Reyes on April 24, 1961 in Ogallala, Nebraska.&nbsp; The couple lived in Hershey and he worked at TRW in Ogallala, then Kuroki farms and later worked as a foreman at Weitz Construction. Don coached Aztec basketball and also organized the Aztec Basketball Tournament in Hershey.&nbsp; He coached Hershey Baseball in the Babe Ruth League.&nbsp; He was a very good athlete during his school years.&nbsp; Don will always be remembered as the smartest uneducated man the family knew.

Don is survived by his children, Debbie (Dennis) Lindsay, Topeka, Kansas, Donna Fuentes (Jack Meyerhoeffer), Hastings, Nebraska, Derek Reyes, Memphis, Tennessee, Delores (Richard) Chadwick, Sutherland, Nebraska, Victor Reyes, Lincoln, Nebraska, Kelsey Reyes, Pearsell, TX; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; siblings Belinda Potter, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Vicky (Jessie) Martinez, North Platte, Nebraska, Genevieve Reyes Young, North Platte, Nebraska and Mary Allen (Tim) Udell, Plainview, Nebraska; along with many other family members and friends. Wendy Jo (Zirnig) Lowder was born on October 5, 1976, to Joseph and Margy Zirnig in Valentine, NE. and passed away August 21,2022 at home.

Wendy attended District #21 at Norden, NE and then graduated from Keya Paha Co High School in 1995. She then worked at Pine View Good Samaritan for 25 years until it closed. During her childhood days she love to play with the dogs and cats. She even helped feed the bucket calves. One day she decided to help her mom milk cows. And wished she never had learned. She was lots of help unloading corn and bags of feed for the bucket calves.&nbsp; She was a real country girl at heart. She was one of the friendliest people. She talked to everybody even if she didn’t know them. The residents at the nursing home really loved her and she loved them. She had a very big heart. On June 18, 2016, Wendy married James Lowder. They met while they were both working at the nursing home. James and Wendy had no children but every kid they saw adopted them as their Aunt and Uncle. Which they both loved.

Wendy was preceded in death by her brother Wayde, who passed away when he was two years old; Her grandfather Elmer (Calvin) Turner, her grandparents Frank and Orebelle Zirnig; Her mother-in-law Dorothy (Robbins) Lowder; Her favorite uncles, Alfred (Bud) Fisher and Howard Mooney; Her great grandparents Dawsons, Turner, Zirnig and Grooms. Wendy is survived by her husband, James Lowder, her parents Joe and Margy Zirnig, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends.

Jed&nbsp;Weir of North Platte unexpectedly died at Great Plains Health on August 20, 2022, at the age of 46.

Jed was born in North Platte on July 21, 1976, to Gerald 'Jerry' and Carol Weir. He grew up in Hershey where he graduated from Hershey High School in 1995. In 1995 Jed married Lori Sexson and they moved to Kearney where he worked for Coleman Powermate. The couple had two sons, Jacob and Justin, and later divorced. In 2007 he returned to Hershey where he worked as the Meat Manager at Gary's Super Food then for Greenbrier Railroad Service. Jed eventually hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad and was working as a Carman at the time of his death. On May 31, 2016, Jed married Trisha Osman in Bennett, CO, and they made their home together in North Platte. Jed's family grew with Trisha's kids, Nick, Kristian and Adrianna. Jed liked gardening and was a family man who loved his kids, and kids in general. He enjoyed baseball and coached Little League and Legion Baseball. Jed especially loved celebrating the 4th of July with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Carol Weir. She was born June 11, 1929 in North Platte, NE, daughter of Stewart Gamble and Elsie (Peterson) Gamble. She was a member of American Lutheran Church. Delores worked for the Brady bank for 45 years, retiring in 1999. She was a past member of the Lincoln County Fair Board, Brady Boosters Club, Lions Club, Chair of the Brady Centennial, and helped start the Brady Library. Delores enjoyed crocheting many afghans while at Stone Hearth, and enjoyed Husker Volleyball and Football.

Survivors include; niece, Marilyn (Jerry) Jackman of York, NE; nephew, Rodney (Connie) Kemper; Special Great-Niece, Geri (Mark) Bartholomew; Great-Nephew, Chad (Tanya) Jackman; three special Friends, Nancy Sitorius, Lonna Grabenstein; Charlotte Palmer.&nbsp; Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd William Gengenbach, son, William L Gengenbach, her parents, daughter, Nyla Jean Fenster, son-in-law, Steve Fenster, brother, Leonard Gamble, sister, Doris Kemper.

Joan Marie Zimmer of Mason City, NE passed away on August 19 at the age of 79.&nbsp; A beloved mother, wife, sister and teacher to many in the community, Joan will be missed by all.

Joan M Siegel was born on June 22, 1943 in Scottsbluff, NE to Joe and Lucille (VanWinkle) Siegel. She was the oldest of 4 children. She attended elementary school at Litchfield and Sunny Slope District 76 and attended Litchfield High school where she Graduated in 1960. After high school, Joan attended Kearney State College where she received her teaching degree in August of 1968. She started her teaching career at Sunny Slope followed by Clear Creek, Litchfield, Minden and retired from Mason City school in 2005 after 25 years of teaching.

On Feb 17th, 1973, after a long pursuit, James Zimmer and Joan Siegel were united in marriage at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Hazard, NE. After they were married, they lived in Minden for a short time before returning to Mason City.&nbsp; In October of 1976 they moved to the Zimmer family farm where they still reside. To this union they had 3 sons, Mark Zimmer of Mason City, David Zimmer (Sarah) of Mason City, and Lonnie Zimmer (Dayna) of Pleasanton NE. Joan taught school and helped Jim on the farm raising livestock and crops. She enjoyed teaching, traveling, spending time with her family, and sharing her love of educating with her children, grandchildren, and neighbors.

Survivors include her husband Jim of Mason City, children Mark Zimmer of Mason City, David Zimmer (Sarah) of Mason City, and Lonnie Zimmer (Dayna) of Pleasanton NE. Her brother Arnold Siegel of Litchfield, sister Linda Eberle (Donnie) of Hastings, brother David Siegel (Sharon) of Litchfield and 9 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Lucille Siegel.

Joan Marie Zimmer (1943-2022)

Ruby Mae (Schmidt) Booth passed away on August 15th, 2022, at the remarkable age of 101 in Carlyle, IL.&nbsp;

Services will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 2 pm at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Gary Wright officiating. Graveside services to follow at the Broken Bow Cemetery.&nbsp; Condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com.

Ruby was born on June&nbsp;25th, 1921, to Bert and Adeline (Anderson) Schmidt in Anselmo, NE, the oldest of three kids. She grew up on a farm 8 miles northwest of Anselmo. Ruby was a true cowgirl. She worked hard on the family farm and later she started cooking for area threshing crews. On April 14th, 1943, she married Charles Milton Booth of Broken Bow. They initially worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings assembling bombs during WWII and later returned home to Broken Bow. Ruby and Charles were blessed with two children, Deanna Kay &amp; George Milton. Ruby worked at Becton Dickinson for 15 years and retired in 1983. She stayed very active in the church community at First Christian Church. In 2016 she moved to Lincoln to be nearer to her grandchildren &amp; great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Ruby loved music. She had fond memories of&nbsp;attending local dances with polka being one of her favorites. She also loved watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren perform live music and dance. Ruby&nbsp;was known for baking a marvelous sour cream chocolate cake and it was a favorite amongst family and friends. Ruby spent her time creating quilts for her family and crocheted many stocking caps for Inuit tribes in Alaska. Ruby greatly enjoyed the outdoors as fishing and gardening were her popular hobbies. Her favorite places to travel were Rocky Mtn &amp; Yellowstone National Parks.&nbsp;

Those left to mourn are her children Deanna &amp; Garry Wagoner of Gibbon, NE, George Booth &amp; Lisa Boulware of Carlyle, IL, her grandchildren, Abby (Dave) Beatty of Lincoln, NE, Anna Marie Wagoner, Gibbon, NE, Phillip (Jenny) Wagoner, of Lincoln, NE, Elisa Booth of Omaha, NE, and Jennifer (Greg) Stoddart of Chicago, IL, and 7 great grandchildren.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, and siblings, Arlene White &amp; Berten Schmidt.

She was loved immensely, will be sorely missed, and never forgotten.&nbsp;

Ruby Mae Booth (1921-2022)

Stanley John Spahn, age 90, lifetime resident of McCook, NE passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Stanley was born October 25, 1931 in McCook to parents Nick and Mary (Brenning) Spahn. He was one of five siblings who grew up in McCook, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1950.&nbsp; Following high school, Stanley enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country as staff sergeant and air police until his Honorable Discharge in 1954. On May 12, 1956, Stanley married the love of his life, Shirley Ann (Landi) Spahn in McCook. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Teresa and Beverly.&nbsp; Over the years, Stanley worked as a police officer for 17 years with the McCook Police Department.&nbsp; Then following, he was employed at Dayco until retirement at which time he became a part time security guard at Dayco.&nbsp; He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and watching Husker football and baseball.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Elmer, Edward and infant brother, Raymond; and his sister, Ruth Spahn.  </figure>Stanley John Spahn, age 90, lifetime resident of McCook, NE passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Community Hospital in McCook.Stanley was born October 25, 1931 in McCook to parents Nick and Mary (Brenning) Spahn. He was one of five siblings who grew up in McCook, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1950.&nbsp; Following high school, Stanley enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country as staff sergeant and air police until his Honorable Discharge in 1954. On May 12, 1956, Stanley married the love of his life, Shirley Ann (Landi) Spahn in McCook. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Teresa and Beverly.&nbsp; Over the years, Stanley worked as a police officer for 17 years with the McCook Police Department.&nbsp; Then following, he was employed at Dayco until retirement at which time he became a part time security guard at Dayco.&nbsp; He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and watching Husker football and baseball.Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Elmer, Edward and infant brother, Raymond; and his sister, Ruth Spahn. Dixie Jane Lorentz (1933-2022)

Tina&nbsp;Bettelyoun of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, unexpectedly passed away at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City on August 15, 2022, at the age of 54.

Tina was born March 1, 1968, in North Platte, Nebraska, to John and Barb (Doucet) VanPelt. The family lived in North Platte when Tina was young then moved to Paxton where Tina grew up and graduated from high school in 1986. On August 11, 1995, Tina married Lynx Bettelyoun in Hot Springs, South Dakota. They lived in Paxton then Oglala, South Dakota where she raised four girls: Aspen, Talon, Sadan and Arrow. Tina enjoyed cooking and was able to make countless family recipes without having them written down. Her favorite dish to make was Gumbo, taught to her by her mother and passed down to her own daughters. Growing up, Tina loved to participate in 4-H, showing Hereford steers at the Keith County Fair. After high school, Tina enjoyed participating in both 8 and 9 ball pool leagues. Throughout Tina's life she loved to attend her children's sports games, especially the volleyball matches. Even after her children stopped playing sports, Tina continued supporting South Dakota State University's Jackrabbits and the Oklahoma Sooners. Of all things that she enjoyed in life, Tina loved being with her kids and husband the most.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Barb VanPelt; and grandparents, Joe, Sr. and Ardis Doucet and Wilmer and Agnes VanPelt. Tina is survived by her husband of 27 years, Lynx Bettelyoun; children, Aspen Bettelyoun, Talon Bettelyoun, Sadan (Jacob) Bettelyoun-Buysse and Arrow Bettelyoun; granddaughter, Ammay Hughes; her father, John VanPelt; sisters, Gina (Bob) Ferguson, Cortney VanPelt, and Raelyn (Jeff) Daly; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

Fred attended elementary school in North Platte and Kearney and graduated from North Platte High School in 1960. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He and Carol Evans were married in 1962 and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on September 23rd. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Fred went to work for Sears in North Platte and transferred to several cities while in management positions with Sears. The family lived in Lincoln and Grand Island, Nebraska; Enid, OK; Garden City, KS; Fayetteville, AR; Nevada, MO; Minot, ND; and Appleton, WI, before retiring in 1993 and relocating to Springdale, Arkansas. Daniel D Johnson “Danny” age 69 of Broken Bow, Nebraska passed away August 18th, 2022, in Broken Bow. Dan was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska in 1952. He graduated from Ansley, NE in 1970. He then pursued his career working for Custer Public Power starting in 1973 and retired in 2015.

Dan was married to Lynne for 43 beautiful years and had 2 children and 7 grandchildren. Dan enjoyed spending time at the lake and was always eager to help friends and family with projects that needed his attention to detail. &nbsp;Grandkids favorite saying. “If Papa can’t fix it no one can fix it”.

Dan is survived by his wife Lynne, a brother Butch, sister Sandy, sons Eric (Angie) Johnson, their children Isabel, Kaleb and Aiden, and Robbie (Tami) Johnson, and their children Savannah, Toby, Kaleigh, and Taylor, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dan was proceeded in death by his parents Ernest and Lillian Johnson and a sister Erlene Brink.

Dan Johnson (1952-2022)

Aldon L. Unruh, 84, of Callaway, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at CHI Health St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska.

He was born on January 30, 1938 in Enid, Oklahoma, to Alpha J. and Almeda Rose (Johnson) Unruh. He was born again on April 22, 1946 to Jesus Christ, Son of God. Aldon graduated from Oklahoma Bible Academy with the class of 1956 in Enid, Oklahoma. He then went on to further his education at Grace College of the Bible where he met the love of his life, Lavon Uhlig.

Aldon was united in marriage to Lavon on November 24, 1960 in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Two children were blessed to this union: Warren and Shannon. The family made their home in Lincoln for over forty years. Aldon was a self-employed framing contractor and trim carpenter. He was also a Project Manager for Sampson Construction. Aldon and Lavon moved back to Callaway, Nebraska and settled in 1995 where Aldon was still employed by Sampson Construction. Aldon had a love for music. He sang in a quartet in high school and college where he made lifelong friends. Aldon was a master craftsman and gifted at his trade. He also enjoyed being outdoors and fishing. His family, church, and faith were always an important part of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Lavon of Callaway; his children, Warren (Jennifer) Unruh of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Shannon (Kevin) Valentine of Lincoln; sister, Carolyn Unruh of Lahoma, Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law, Charlyn (Paul) Glover of Spencer, Iowa, Marcy (Keith) Aden of Gothenburg and Audrey (Bob) Busboom of Denton; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Aldon was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Lila (Leonard) Uhlig.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Berean Bible Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Larry DeMoss, officiating. Aldon L. Unruh (1938-2022)

Gary Dean Essells, age 77, passed away at his home in Hutchinson, Kansas, on 
August 17, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on May 26, 1945, the 
youngest child of Warren and Emma (Jaeschke) Essells.&nbsp; He grew up in 
Wausau, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin.&nbsp; Gary served 
in the United States army from 1968-70.

Gary was united in marriage to Connie Jo Ary in March 1972.&nbsp; He 
worked for KSKU radio and KTPS television.&nbsp; In 1976, the family moved to
 North Platte, Nebraska, where he worked as a communications specialist for 
the Union Pacific Railroad’s Baily Yards and as chief engineer for 
KELN/KOOQ radio.&nbsp; Both he and Connie volunteered countless hours to 
Nebraskaland Days, the official Nebraska state celebration.&nbsp; In 2000, 
they received the prestigious Dale Studley Award.&nbsp; They also were host 
parents for 24 years to more than 100 North Platte Community College 
basketball players.

In 2006, Gary and Connie retired and returned to Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
stayed active in many local nonprofit groups until his passing.&nbsp; These 
include Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library, Central Kansas 
Corvette Association, Reno County Amateur Radio Association, and Central
 Kansas Model Railroaders.&nbsp; For several years he also operated excursion
 trains for the Abilene &amp; Smoky Valley Railroad.

Gary is survived by his daughter Gina Long of Hutchinson, Kansas, son Tim 
Long of Clayton, Ohio; and grandsons Andrew Ysac of Hutchinson, Kansas and Noah 
Long of MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, his parents, a brother Warren Essells and sister Majorie Colcord.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held on 
Wednesday August 24, 2022, at 10 am at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson, Kansas with 
Pastor Wayne DeWindt officiating. Gary will be escorted to his final 
resting place by the Central Kansas Corvette Association.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in his 
honor to the Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library through Elliott 
Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS&nbsp; 67501.

August 17, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on May 26, 1945, the 
youngest child of Warren and Emma (Jaeschke) Essells.&nbsp; He grew up in 
Wausau, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin.&nbsp; Gary served 
in the United States army from 1968-70.Gary was united in marriage to Connie Jo Ary in March 1972.&nbsp; He 
worked for KSKU radio and KTPS television.&nbsp; In 1976, the family moved to
 North Platte, Nebraska, where he worked as a communications specialist for 
the Union Pacific Railroad’s Baily Yards and as chief engineer for 
KELN/KOOQ radio.&nbsp; Both he and Connie volunteered countless hours to 
Nebraskaland Days, the official Nebraska state celebration.&nbsp; In 2000, 
they received the prestigious Dale Studley Award.&nbsp; They also were host 
parents for 24 years to more than 100 North Platte Community College 
basketball players.In 2006, Gary and Connie retired and returned to Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
stayed active in many local nonprofit groups until his passing.&nbsp; These 
include Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library, Central Kansas 
Corvette Association, Reno County Amateur Radio Association, and Central
 Kansas Model Railroaders.&nbsp; For several years he also operated excursion
 trains for the Abilene &amp; Smoky Valley Railroad.Gary is survived by his daughter Gina Long of Hutchinson, Kansas, son Tim 
Long of Clayton, Ohio; and grandsons Andrew Ysac of Hutchinson, Kansas and Noah 
Long of MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, his parents, a brother Warren Essells and sister Majorie Colcord.Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held on 
Wednesday August 24, 2022, at 10 am at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson, Kansas with 
Pastor Wayne DeWindt officiating. Gary will be escorted to his final 
resting place by the Central Kansas Corvette Association.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in his

She loved being a mom and especially a softball mom.

Martha Rae "Marty" Wright (1941-2022)

Delores Catherine (Kate) McConville, age 81, formerly of Indianola, NE passed away on August 14, 2022 in San Diego, CA.&nbsp;

Kate was born into an Irish Catholic Farm Family on November 20, 1940 in Frontier County to parents Joseph Leo and Mary Catherine (Sweetman) McConville.&nbsp; She was one of eight siblings who grew up on a farm near Indianola and Stockville, NE.&nbsp;

Kate graduated from the 8th Grade at District 27 in Frontier County.&nbsp; She attended high school at St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis, MO, graduating in 1958. Kate earned her MSN in Nursing from George Washington University in Washington, DC.&nbsp; Kate then began her teaching career at Washington University in St. Louis, MO.&nbsp; After moving to California, she worked for many years in psychiatric nursing care. By the end of her career, Kate had worked for over forty years in the nursing profession.&nbsp;

Kate loved all things Irish.&nbsp; She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Club and for many years was a member of the Sisters of The Most Precious Blood where she served as a nun, Sister John Michele. Kate enjoyed volunteering at the food pantry, Father Joe’s Homeless Shelter and the Santa Sophia Food Shelter in San Diego.&nbsp; She had an extensive collection of angel statues as well as her music cd collection.&nbsp;

Kate will always live on as a quiet woman of strength and love.&nbsp; Even though she lived with many health issues, Kate had a happy smile, a warm heart, a strong will, high intelligence, humor and faith.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Leo, Harold, John Eldon and Richard Dale; and her two sisters, Rita who died in infancy and Ruth Metz.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate her life include her brother, Charles (Jane) McConville of Indianola; brother-in law, George Metz of San Diego, CA; sisters-in-law Pat McConville of McCook, NE and Janelle McConville of Minden, NE; and her many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, August 23rd at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with burial to follow at the church's cemetery.&nbsp; Donations can be made to St Catherine's at 815 D St, Indianola, NE 69034

Michael Lee “Mike” Hiatt, 60, of North Platte, passed away August 16, 2022 as a result of a motor vehicle accident north of North Platte.&nbsp; He was born on July 5, 1962 to Leonard and Opal Hiatt in North Platte.

Mike graduated from Hershey High School.&nbsp; He worked with his father in the construction business and later traveled with a fiber optics company all over the country.&nbsp; Mike hired on Union Pacific Railroad in 1989 and was currently an engineer. Mike married Marsha Kelley on August 23, 1991 in North Platte.&nbsp; He enjoyed stock car races, fishing and hunting.&nbsp; He was devoted to his family and his easy-going attitude made him easy to be around.&nbsp;

Michael "Mike" Lee Hiatt (1962-2022)

&nbsp; KARON BENNETT, 82, a longtime Grant resident, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Banner Health Sterling Regional Medical Center in Sterling, Colorado. She was born Karon Marie Bradley, on January 25, 1940, at Deweese, Nebraska. On April 25, 1968, Karon married Robert "Bob" Bennett. By Karon's own account: "I met Bob, the love of my life, in November of 1961. My one-year-old son and I had just moved to Grant, and Bob was the "telephone man" who installed our telephone. I felt such a connection to him but had no idea where it would lead. Over the next seven years, we got to know each other very well and were married at the Grant Methodist Church on April 5, 1968. Bob was the most honest and loyal person I'd ever met. He insisted on adopting my son, Randall "Randy," and after we were married for six months and after the adoption, Bob always treated Randy as his own. In the 48 years, Bob and I were married, Bob never raised his voice to me. He accepted me as I was and was faithful and loving to me all of his life. He had a somewhat calming effect on me which made me love him even more." The couple raised their family and lived their entire married lives in Grant. Most recently, Karon had been making her home at Holyoke, CO. At the age of 16, Karon entered the field of medicine. She spent her entire life working in medicine and was quite passionate about her vocation. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. Karon would prepare all of the food and enjoyed sharing the special meal with family and friends. Her son Randy has many cherished memories of Thanksgiving dinners over the years, as Karon was always in her element. Karon spent years baking and decorating cakes for weddings, and holidays, along with any and all special occasions. Karon even spent time frosting and decorating a Styrofoam cake for a special client that gave it out as a gag gift. Karon was known as the "Queen of Wrap" by those closest to her. She had a penchant for wrapping all of the gifts she gave with great care and attention to detail. She was so good at wrapping gifts that often, people might enlist Karon to do freelance work. Karon shared her husband's love for cats, which was something that they also passed along to Randy. Over the last several years, Karon's great passion was nursing infant kittens until they were able to be relocated to Fern's Felines Rescue &amp; Sanctuary in Garden County, NE. Karon was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Bennett, her sister, Jeanniene "Nean" Hunter, and the last cat the family shared, Bubba. Survivors include her son, Randy Bennett of Lincoln, NE; her dearest and closest friend, Virginia Serowski-Taylor of Venango; dear friend, Connie Peaster of Grant; her two favorite doctors, Dr. Clifford Colglazier and Dr. James Schiefen. Karon Bennett (1940-2022)

Ila Mae "Ike" Davenport passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living in Cozad at the age of 94 years and 10 months.&nbsp; Ike was born January 31, 1927, at the family farmstead in Guide Rock, Nebraska. She graduated from Guide Rock High School and attended the University of Nebraska, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She returned to Guide Rock to teach before uniting in marriage to Gerald Davenport on August 22, 1948.&nbsp; Their marriage was blessed with three children, Dan, Randy and Kathy. Upon moving to Cozad in the late 50's, Ike began her extended career teaching 5th grade at East Elementary for 29 years. While being a Mother of 3, a wife, and teaching full time, she enrolled in evening and weekend classes to graduate from Kearney State College with a teaching degree in the mid 60's.&nbsp; Ike was a caring, dedicated and passionate teacher. Her students will fondly remember that she made learning fun; activities like painting a large map of the U.S. on the playground to learn all the states and capitals or setting up her son's plastic soldiers game to learn about the battlefields of the civil war. At the end of each school year, her 5th grade students would write down predictions for their future.&nbsp; Prior to their high school graduation, she would take these predictions to the high school and meet with the students to laugh and enjoy their 5th grade predictions. You could rarely go anywhere in Cozad without one of her former students stopping her to say hello and reminiscing about their time in her class.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ike was always a big supporter of education. She helped train student teachers in her classroom. She was especially proud that every one of her kids and grandkids graduated from college, including some with graduate degrees. Each month the grandkids were in college she mailed them $25 for spending money, but they had to call or write and thank her before she would send the next month’s check. Ike and Red were long time contributors to the Wilson Public Library, receiving the "Make Your Mark on Cozad" award in 2017. Ike enjoyed golf, tennis, playing cards, crafting and traveling.&nbsp; Red and Ike traveled throughout the world, visiting every continent but one. Christmas was one of her favorite times as she decorated the house with her extensive Santa collection. The fireplace mantle was covered with Christmas stockings she hand-made for each of her kids and their spouses, as well as all her grandkids. Ike was a dedicated wife, Mother, Grandmother, and friend. No matter how busy life was, she attended every school activity and sporting event her kids and grandkids were involved in, no matter how far away it might be. She will be fondly remembered by her children's friends and parents as they were always one big happy family. She was known for cutting the Cozad baseball team’s hair before they were allowed to play in the regional baseball tournament and much to her son's dismay, she even cut the hair of an opposing player so he was allowed to play!!&nbsp; Her kids and grandchildren will cherish the many photo albums and personal scrapbooks she made for them. Ike enjoyed working at the Church Thrift Shop with her many wonderful friends. She was a faithful member of the Red Hats' Society, United Methodist Church, and treasured her sisters in PEO.&nbsp; Ike and Red spent their winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona, for over 20 years.&nbsp; It allowed her to practice her golf so she could come back in the spring and beat everyone on the golf course, especially during the Ohmstede reunion "Maggie Open" golf tournament. Ike enjoyed her life at Meadowlark Pointe.&nbsp; The staff and friends she made were so wonderful, especially those that would stop and play cards with her! On special occasions, she would share her "valued" chocolate with staff and friends! Ike was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald "Red" Davenport, brothers Ward (Verna), Lewie (Mary) Don (Evelyn), sisters Eloise (Art) Snick (Bud); sister-in-law Irene (Virgil) Norwood and brother-in-law Charles Paulger.&nbsp; She is survived by her children, Dan Davenport, Moscow, Idaho; Randy (Leah) Davenport, Cave Creek, Arizona; Kathy (Al) Nelson, Crofton, Nebraska; brothers Daryl (Roz) Ohmstede, Hardin, Montana; Roger (Sandy) Ohmstede, Southlake, Texas; sister-in-law Mary Ann Paulger, Fremont, Nebraska; 9 treasured grandchildren, Kimberly, Kristina, Nathan, Katie, Alex, KC, Dustin, Brock and Brooke; and numerous treasured nieces and nephews. Her presence will be missed and memories of her treasured. Ike's wishes were to be cremated.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church. &nbsp;The family encourages everyone to buy a book to donate to the school in honor their favorite teacher.  </figure>Ila Mae "Ike" Davenport passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living in Cozad at the age of 94 years and 10 months.&nbsp; Ike was born January 31, 1927, at the family farmstead in Guide Rock, Nebraska. She graduated from Guide Rock High School and attended the University of Nebraska, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She returned to Guide Rock to teach before uniting in marriage to Gerald Davenport on August 22, 1948.&nbsp; Their marriage was blessed with three children, Dan, Randy and Kathy. Upon moving to Cozad in the late 50's, Ike began her extended career teaching 5th grade at East Elementary for 29 years. While being a Mother of 3, a wife, and teaching full time, she enrolled in evening and weekend classes to graduate from Kearney State College with a teaching degree in the mid 60's.&nbsp; Ike was a caring, dedicated and passionate teacher. Her students will fondly remember that she made learning fun; activities like painting a large map of the U.S. on the playground to learn all the states and capitals or setting up her son's plastic soldiers game to learn about the battlefields of the civil war. At the end of each school year, her 5th grade students would write down predictions for their future.&nbsp; Prior to their high school graduation, she would take these predictions to the high school and meet with the students to laugh and enjoy their 5th grade predictions. You could rarely go anywhere in Cozad without one of her former students stopping her to say hello and reminiscing about their time in her class.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ike was always a big supporter of education. She helped train student teachers in her classroom. She was especially proud that every one of her kids and grandkids graduated from college, including some with graduate degrees. Each month the grandkids were in college she mailed them $25 for spending money, but they had to call or write and thank her before she would send the next month’s check. Ike and Red were long time contributors to the Wilson Public Library, receiving the "Make Your Mark on Cozad" award in 2017. Ike enjoyed golf, tennis, playing cards, crafting and traveling.&nbsp; Red and Ike traveled throughout the world, visiting every continent but one. Christmas was one of her favorite times as she decorated the house with her extensive Santa collection. The fireplace mantle was covered with Christmas stockings she hand-made for each of her kids and their spouses, as well as all her grandkids. Ike was a dedicated wife, Mother, Grandmother, and friend. No matter how busy life was, she attended every school activity and sporting event her kids and grandkids were involved in, no matter how far away it might be. She will be fondly remembered by her children's friends and parents as they were always one big happy family. She was known for cutting the Cozad baseball team’s hair before they were allowed to play in the regional baseball tournament and much to her son's dismay, she even cut the hair of an opposing player so he was allowed to play!!&nbsp; Her kids and grandchildren will cherish the many photo albums and personal scrapbooks she made for them. Ike enjoyed working at the Church Thrift Shop with her many wonderful friends. She was a faithful member of the Red Hats' Society, United Methodist Church, and treasured her sisters in PEO.&nbsp; Ike and Red spent their winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona, for over 20 years.&nbsp; It allowed her to practice her golf so she could come back in the spring and beat everyone on the golf course, especially during the Ohmstede reunion "Maggie Open" golf tournament. Ike enjoyed her life at Meadowlark Pointe.&nbsp; The staff and friends she made were so wonderful, especially those that would stop and play cards with her! On special occasions, she would share her "valued" chocolate with staff and friends! Lillian&nbsp;Johnson passed away at the age of 101, on August 14, 2022, at Linden Court in North Platte.

Lillian, the daughter of Edward and Agnes Isackson, was born January 20, 1921, in Wild Horse Valley, north of Brady. She attended Spannath School then graduated from Brady High School in 1938. In 1934, Lillian won the Lincoln County Spelling Contest and earned a trip to the Chicago World's Fair. On April 9, 1940, Lillian was united in marriage to Earl Johnson at Oberlin, KS. They made their home in North Platte where they raised their children, Sherry and Mark. Lillian was an auxiliary member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Eagles. She worked as a rural school teacher, dental assistant for Dr. Roger Van Cleave, and was a desk clerk at the Ramada Inn, from which she retired. Lillian then enjoyed being a volunteer with R.S.V.P. and was recognized for 20 years of volunteer work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents, Edward and Agnes Isackson; brother-in-law, Kenneth Davis; and grandsons, Troy and Todd Van Nortwick. Lillian is survived by her children, Mark Johnson, of Ft. Collins, CO, and Sherry Van Nortwick, of Bennington; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Ian; her sister, Darlene Davis, of North Platte; niece, Kathlene (Thomas) Sullivan; nephews, Kent (Maggie) Davis and Keith (Syrena) Davis; as well as other family.

Charlie John Duffield, age 89, of McCook, NE died unexpectedly at his home in McCook on Monday, August 15, 2022.

Charlie was born April 22, 1933 in Padroni, CO to parents Alva G. and Margaret G. (Dickinson) Duffield.&nbsp; He was one of five sons born to this union.&nbsp; Charlie graduated high school in 1951 in Chappell, Nebraska.&nbsp; He then attended business college in Chillicothe, MO.&nbsp; Charlie enlisted on April 14, 1953 to proudly serve his country in the United States Army, he was honorably discharged on March 30, 1955. Charlie married Mary (Reichman) Duffield on April 1, 1956 in Chappell.&nbsp; The couple was blessed with three children: Milton, Gregg and Janella.&nbsp; The family made McCook their home in 1960.&nbsp; Charlie worked as a district court reporter for over thirty years, retiring in 1998.&nbsp; He enjoyed creating stained glass and making wooden bowls, camping, playing the piano and square dancing with Mary.&nbsp; Charlie was a member of the local VFW Post # 1652 and Masonic Lodge #135 as well as the Memorial United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; and three of his brothers, Lendyl, William and Duane. Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Mary; sons, Milton Duffield of Springfield, MO and Gregg Duffield of Kearney, NE; daughter, Janella (Karl) Clark of Akron, IA; brother, Harold Duffield of Oceanside, CA; four grandchildren, Tiffani Owsley, Lindsay Rasco, Justine Frease and Jacqui Satterwhite; and six great grandchildren, Dylon Rasco, Kyler Owsley, Shayln Owsley, Kolton Owsley, Alice Lucero and Jackson Satterwhite.&nbsp;
