Morris Eugene Taylor, 72, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on August 15, 2022 at his home.&nbsp; Morris was born July 27, 1950 to Melvin E. and Patricia J. (Close) Taylor, in Sterling, Colorado.&nbsp;

Morris moved with his family to S.W. Denver, Colorado when he was 8 years old.&nbsp;&nbsp; He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1969.&nbsp; Then he worked as a cook at a Mexican restaurant called Ramone’s, where he met Kathleen Sue.&nbsp; He was married to Sue on August 19, 1972 in Arvada, Colorado. To this union three children were born: Heather, Meghan and Sean.&nbsp; He met Marie Walker and they shared over 20 years together, living in Denver, Arkansas and Florida. Moe worked at Smurfit Stone Box Plant as a press operator for 38 years.&nbsp; He and his crew held several company records for highest production at the plant. He was very proud of their accomplishments.&nbsp; &nbsp;Moe retired in 2011. &nbsp;He enjoyed going on cruises, enjoyed genealogy, was a history buff (especially WW2), loved to read, but loved his kids above all else.&nbsp; Eating Mexican food and watching cartoons was a favorite pastime, especially “How to Train Your Dragon &amp; Luca.”&nbsp; Moe will always be remembered for his giant personality, boisterous laugh and being the class clown.&nbsp; He always wanted to write a book.&nbsp; He worked hard for his family to show his love.

Moe is survived by his children, Heather (Phillip) Horn, North Platte, Meghan (Justin) Amy, Corry, Pennsylvania, and Sean Taylor, North Platte; grandchildren, Angel Taylor, Lincoln, Nebraska, Kohl Taylor, North Platte, Logan Amy, and Lilly Amy, Corry, Pennsylvania; and special friend Marie Walker, Deltona, Florida; brother, Brian Taylor, Denver, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Patricia Taylor.

Erika Christene Cox was born to Henry and Wilamene Cox on July 11, 1955, and brought home to Calf Creek Ranch north of Mullen.&nbsp; There she joined her siblings Judith, Kay, and A.B.&nbsp; She passed this life on August 14, 2022, at her home in Mullen. She graduated Valentine High School, Valentine, Nebraska, and attended Chadron State College in Chadron where she was a member of Chi Omega fraternity. She had an early career in portrait photography at Brown Harano in North Platte, followed by photography work in Fresno, California.&nbsp; She left that business to become a computer programmer. She programmed for Boulder County, Colorado and for IDS in Denver.&nbsp; She wrote the pay-at -the -pump program for Beacon Oil in Hanford, California.&nbsp; She also wrote the program for Cadillac OnStar emergency and later programmed for Mercantile Bank in St. Louis. She returned to Nebraska to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in English at UNK, Kearney (2004).&nbsp; She was an accomplished writer and Shakespearean scholar. She remained at UNK working on her Master’s until she was needed at home.&nbsp; She cared for her mother during her final illness and remained in Mullen afterward.

She is survived by her sister Judith Brown of Seneca and her children C. J. Alexander, Peter Bentley (Staci) grandsons Jack and Hunter, Erik Bentley, and Elizabeth Russell.&nbsp; Also remaining to mourn her loss is her sister Kay Tarr (Wes) of North Platte, and her children Matthew (Catharina) Wolcott grandson Sam and granddaughter Anna, Charles Wolcott and daughter Devin Wolcott, and daughter Sarah (Scott) Linden of Callaway, and her children Kirsten Edmonds and Zacchaeus Burnside. She is also survived by her brother A. B. Cox and daughter Savanna Hebbert (Brady) of Calf Creek Ranch, Mullen.

Chris was dearly loved and held a special place in the hearts of her nephews and nieces.&nbsp; She was creative, funny, and quite witty.&nbsp; She will be fondly remembered.

A Memorial Service will be held in Mullen on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 10:00 am MT at the St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church with Inurnment at Cedar View Cemetery. Chris Cox (1955-2022)

&nbsp; Charlotte Leigh Wallin was born September 1, 1976, in Central City, Nebraska, to Sharon Fay (Green) and Richard Lloyd Butt. Char grew up in Imperial and graduated from Chase County High School with the class of 1995. Char continued her education at Mid-Plains Community College and received an Associates Degree in Nursing. On July 17, 1999, Char married Steven Dirk Wallin and to this union 3 children were born: Matalie, Mason, and Kadence. Char and Steve first settled 8 miles northwest of Imperial and then a year later moved to their current home on the southwest edge of Imperial. Char began her nursing career at Chase County Hospital in Imperial where she worked as an LPN until 2006 when she was able to follow her real passion as a full-time mom. Char also worked alongside Steve to build their farming operation. She was a member of the Imperial Berean Church, Teammates Mentoring Program and board, 2019 Cattlemen’s’ Ball Committee, and a Cheerleader of everything her children were involved with. Char was a delightful, smiling girl from the time she was born. As she grew, Char was never without friends around. Everyone loved being around Char because she brought light to the room when she walked in. Char always made everyone around her feel welcome and included. Char was always for the underdog and would inspire those around her to think of others first and see the good in everyone. As a young girl, Char loved her gymnastics and synchronized swimming classes. Char loved to dance and in high school was involved in drill team, cheerleading, and softball. As an adult, she was always ready to volunteer a helping hand and was involved in a plethora of activities. Char always loved children and wanted to be a mom. Her husband and children were her life, and she put them before herself. Char was an amazing mother and wife who worked meticulously to organize their family home. Char rarely sat down because she was always doing something for her family and others. She loved being an aunt and attending events for her extended family. Char enjoyed exercising, taking care of her flowers, reading, decorating for holidays, and attending her children’s many events. She especially loved spending time with her family. Char had a talent and an eye for fashion and flipping houses. Her generous spirit for her family and community brought beauty to everyone and everything she touched. Char loved to entertain, and her parties were always full of good food, laughter, and fun. Char loved Jesus and was unafraid to talk about her faith, because she was secure in who she was in Christ. She was beautiful outwardly and inwardly. Char always had the sense of the right thing to do in situations and would forge ahead with strength and courage. Even through difficult times, she remained positive and full of hope, and inspired her family and others to do the same. Char inspired all she met and was close to, to walk with compassion towards others, love unconditionally, and live life full of joy. Char instilled these qualities into her three children who will continue her legacy. Char passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. She was 45 years of age. Sharron K. Vak (1960-2022)

Mary&nbsp;Creger, age 90, passed away on August 14, 2022, while residing at Senior Living Choices in Curtis.

Mary was the first born child of Lydia and Edward Foster. She was born January 20, 1932, in Colorado Springs, CO, and was later joined by her brothers, Robert and Phillip. Mary graduated from high school in 1950 then the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1954 with her B.A. Degree in Education. Mary met her future husband, David Creger, when he moved in across the street from her as a teenager. They were married in Mary's house on December 26, 1953, and have been married for nearly 69 years. Mary and Dave welcomed their first child, Daniel, while in Colorado Springs but soon moved to a farm near Palisade, CO, where they tried their hand at growing peaches. It was there that Mary gave birth to twins, Timothy and Deborah. Mary was a hard worker, raising three young children while hauling water to the farmhouse, peaches to the packing shed, setting irrigation pipe and tending the garden. Perhaps the saddest day of Mary's life came when her son Daniel drowned at age 10 while saving the life of a neighbor friend who had fallen into a nearby irrigation canal. The family eventually moved into Grand Junction, CO, where Mary began her teaching career in elementary education at Riverside Elementary. The family moved to Berthoud, CO, where Dave earned a teaching degree in vocational agriculture at Colorado State University, and they eventually relocated to Wauneta, NE. Dave taught high school vocational agriculture and Mary taught in the elementary grades. In 1977, Mary and Dave moved to Curtis to take similar teaching jobs, and spent their remaining years until retiring in the late 90's. After retirement Mary continued to stay busy in church, school and community activities. The family wishes Mary to be remembered for her cheerful spirit, her enthusiasm for teaching, and her love of Dave and family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lydia and Edward; brother, Phil; son, Daniel; and daughter, Deborah. She is survived by her husband, Dave of Curtis; son, Tim (Joan) Creger of Lincoln; grandchildren, David (Jessica) Creger, Paul (Emma) Creger, Helen (Mike) Anderson; her brother, Bob; four great-grandchildren; and other family.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Curtis. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Mary Creger (1932-2022)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Dillard H. Gates, Ph.D. of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully Oct. 24, 2021, surrounded by family. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dillard was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Gates, NE where he was raised on a farm homesteaded by his grandfather and great-grandfather. He graduated from Gates High in 1942. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As part of the Greatest Generation, Dillard enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1942 and proudly served his country during WWII. Dillard spent 19 months at a Loran Station on Canton Island in the South Pacific and then returned to Nebraska to marry his high school sweetheart, Anastasia "Ann" (Mohatt) Gates in 1946. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After a stint with the US Geological Survey, Dillard enrolled at Kearney State Teachers College and the following year enrolled in the Agricultural College of the University of Nebraska where he received his Bachelor of Science in Soil Conservation. Wishing to continue his education, Dillard earned his Master of Science Degree in Agronomy in 1953 at the University of Nebraska and Ph.D. in Rangeland Management from Utah State University in 1955. Dillard then accepted a position at the US Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Southern Plains Experimental Range, in Woodward, OK. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dillard and Ann then transferred to Pullman, WA in 1957 to establish an ARS cooperative research program with Washington State University. At this time Dillard received a courtesy appointment to the faculty of WSU and member of the faculty of the WSU Forestry and Range Department. In 1962, Dillard accepted a position with Oregon State University as Range Extension Specialist Associate Professor. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1969, Dillard took leave from OSU and accepted a request from the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) to take a three-month assignment in Baghdad, Iraq to assess the country's livestock and rangeland programs. In 1970, he took a one-year sabbatical leave to help develop a Plan of Management for the 25 million acres of BLM land in California. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Upon returning to OSU, Dillard continued as Rangeland Extension Specialist and became Director of the Rangeland Recourses Program. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dillard resigned from OSU in November 1974 to serve as senior range management specialist with the Agency for International Development (USAID). He was involved with rangeland management and related programs in 17 countries in Africa, plus several in the Middle East and Latin America. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1975, Dillard was installed as President of the Society for Range Management and in 1980, he retired from USAID and returned to OSU to serve as Director of the Yemen Program. Dillard retired from OSU in 1983 but continued to work as an international rangeland management and dryland agricultural consultant serving several missions in the Middle East and more than a dozen in China. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; During his academic and research career he published over 65 papers and articles in various Scientific Journals and Trade Magazines. Dillard retained the honorary title of Professor Emeritus from Oregon State University. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Although Dillard traveled the world, he never forgot his roots as a Nebraska farm boy and Cornhusker. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Following retirement, in 1998, Dillard published "Hay, Hell, Kids &amp; Cattle," an autobiography of his early years growing up on a dryland farm, as one of 16 kids during the drought and depression, and "Then What Happened, Papa?" a continuation autobiography covering his experiences in WWII through adulthood. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dillard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and lived in Vancouver, WA since 1986 following his retirement from Oregon State University. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dillard is survived by his son Howe (LeeAnn) Gates; grandchildren Laura (Eric) Bolek of Santa Barbara, CA, Allison Gates of Buellton, CA, and Gregory Gates of Vancouver, WA; his sister Lee Esterbrook of Berthoud, CO; and his brother Larry Gates of Burwell. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dillard was preceded in death by Ann, his beloved wife of nearly 65 years; and youngest son Charles Gates.

Gates, Ph.D. of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully Oct. 24, 2021, surrounded by family. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dillard was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Gates, NE where he was raised on a farm homesteaded by his grandfather and great-grandfather. He graduated from Gates High in 1942. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As part of the Greatest Generation, Dillard enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1942 and proudly served his country during WWII. Dillard spent 19 months at a Loran Station on Canton Island in the South Pacific and then returned to Nebraska to marry his high school sweetheart, Anastasia "Ann" (Mohatt) Gates in 1946. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After a stint with the US Geological Survey, Dillard enrolled at Kearney State Teachers College and the following year enrolled in the Agricultural College of the University of Nebraska where he received his Bachelor of Science in Soil Conservation. Wishing to continue his education, Dillard earned his Master of Science Degree in Agronomy in 1953 at the University of Nebraska and Ph.D. in Rangeland Management from Utah State University in 1955. Dillard Gates (1925-2021)

Danny Lee Flansburg, 72, of Ogallala, NE was called home to his highest mountain top at the right hand of the Lord on Sunday, August 14th, 2022.&nbsp; Danny loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and creatures great and small.&nbsp; Danny loved his hot tub and a cold beverage with a friend.&nbsp; But most of all, Danny loved his family fiercely. Danny was born to parents Alfred (Fritz) Flansburg, Adelia Unabel “Una” (Garber) Flansburg on October 4th, 1949 and was the oldest of four boys.&nbsp; In his early years, he spent as much time as he could on his Grandpa Dan Garber’s ranch near Pierre, South Dakota.&nbsp; He loved horses and rode a horse to the country school there. In third grade, Danny’s parents moved to Denver.&nbsp; He graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1968 where basketball was his sport and he averaged 22 points per game.&nbsp; He later went to Western Wyoming Junior College in Rock Springs, WY on a basketball scholarship. In 1970, he moved back to Denver to work in his Dad’s business, Fritz’s Auto Alignment &amp; Repair, and in 1971 the family moved to Yellowstone National Park as proud owners of the campground called Huckleberry Hot Springs which boasted a natural hot spring Olympic-sized swimming pool.&nbsp; Danny and his family loved this place and formed many good memories of snowmobiling, hunting and working together. In 1975, Danny met the love of his life, Carla (Forsstrom), through mutual friends Mike &amp; Christy O’Hara.&nbsp; They were married in 1976 in Ogallala, NE and lived in Green River, WY for 3 years where Danny worked for Texas Gulf as an electrician.&nbsp; Then, in 1979, they moved back to Ogallala to help Carla’s parents, Dale &amp; Betty Forsstrom, with their business called Pioneer Trails Restaurant.&nbsp; &nbsp;During this time Danny and Carla proudly welcomed their two sons, Darby in 1979 and Dustin in 1981. Also in the early 1980’s, Danny &amp; Carla embarked on several decades of owning &amp; operating businesses together.&nbsp; They started with owning and operating Kingsley Lodge, where Danny thoroughly enjoyed interacting with tourists and promoting Lake McConaughy.&nbsp; They also owned a Sears Catalog Store, Dairy King, and opened Arby’s in Ogallala in 1989 and owned and operated it until 1998 with the whole family chipping in to make it a local favorite.&nbsp; Danny found that he truly enjoyed sales and decided to try selling boats at Big Mac Marine, which led to opening his own boat sales &amp; service shop, Dan’s Marine in 2000 which he ran for 12 years.&nbsp; Danny’s final job before retiring in 2017 was a loader operator at Ogallala Ready Mix, where he said he loved his job “building sandcastles.”&nbsp;&nbsp; Through all of their business adventures, Danny’s strength was always in visiting with customers, telling outrageous stories and building loyal customers through relationships.&nbsp; Though many who knew Danny would have called his tales far-fetched, Danny’s many life experiences found him in some unique situations that offered him the ability to tell true stories, even if they were slightly embellished. Fishing, boating, hunting and playing sports were Danny’s favorite things to do with his sons Darby and Dustin, and it carried right into time spent with his 5 grandchildren doing the exact same things. He enjoyed spoiling his animals with abundant food and creature comforts.&nbsp; Danny was a simple man who took great pleasure in the simple things in life; a cold beverage, a good view and his family nearby made Danny a happy man.&nbsp;

Danny is survived by his wife, Carla Flansburg of Ogallala, NE; Sons Darby (Erica) Flansburg of Ogallala, NE, Dustin (Liesel) Flansburg of Falcon, CO; Grandchildren Sadie, Tenlie, Addlie, Gavin and Cason; Brothers Miles (Linda) Flansburg of Parker, CO, Lyle (Kani) Flansburg of Pine Grove, CA and sister-in-law Cathy Flansburg of Rock Springs, WY; Mother-in-law Betty Forsstrom of Ogallala, NE; Sister-in-law Kathy (Gene) Collins of Castle Rock, CO; Brother-in-law Doug (Kristin) Forsstrom and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Danny is preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Una Flansburg; Brother Robert “Bob” Flansburg and father-in-law Dale Forsstrom.

Danny L. Flansburg (1949-2022)

Kurt E. Kline, 69, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, with family at his side.

He was born on May 18, 1953, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Barton and Marian (Nisley) Kline. He attended rural school District #3 through 6th&nbsp;grade. He then attended school in Lexington. As a sophomore in high school, in 1969, through Dawson County 4-H, he was a part of the Nebraska State Champion Livestock Judging Team and competed in the International Exposition in Chicago. He graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1971. After graduation, Kurt decided to take a year to backpack throughout Europe. Then back to Nebraska he went to complete an Ag Business degree at the University of Nebraska, in Lincoln. His first employment was as a loan officer at Production Credit in Kearney. From there he offered to take over the farming operation on the family farm east of Lexington. Kurt farmed for 37 years. When he retired, he continued to manage the farm. He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Lexington where he sometimes sang in the choir. Kurt served on the Central Platte Natural Resources District for several terms and was active in Farm Bureau, holding all offices including President. He spear-headed the Spring Creek Project to control flooding east of Lexington. He received the Ag Service Award from the Lexington Chamber of Commerce in 2014.

Kurt enjoyed repurposing old farm equipment into metal sculptures. He had a vast collection of various sizes and colors of marbles.

Survivors include three brothers, Bart (Linda) Kline of Boise, Idaho, Scott (Diana) Kline of Sun City West, Arizona, and Todd (Ruth) Kline of Hastings Nebraska; two sisters, Christin (Rick) Roffers of Fremont, Nebraska, and Gretchen (Bob) Bricker of Colorado Springs, Colorado; ten nieces and nephews and 17 great nieces and nephews. Kurt was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kurt Eaton Kline (1953-2022)

Richard Alvin Most, age 88, of McCook, NE passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Richard was born March 28, 1934, in Atwood, KS to parents Alvin and Bertha (Siska) Most.

On June 10, 1953, Richard married Patsy A. Pennington in Atwood. The couple was blessed with three daughters.&nbsp;

Richard was a mechanic for Anderson Ford and later owned and operated R &amp; M Automotive in Imperial. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting tractors and model cars. Richard found great comfort and wisdom in the Bible and loved sharing hope from scriptures with others.&nbsp; He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on December 10, 1966, in Hutchinson Kansas.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, parents, and daughter Loretta Burns-Fernandez.

Those left to celebrate his life are daughters, Darla (Glen) Bennett of Las Vegas, NV, Ivana Most of Kingston, PA; and his four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20th at 2:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in McCook.&nbsp; Donations in Richard's memory can be made to the Kingdom Hall as well. Carpenter Breland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Most (1934-2022)

Dale Dean Bailey of Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the CHI St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, NE with his wife, five nephews and five nieces at his side. Dale was born on the home place in Hayes County, NE on July 27, 1931, to Ervin and Millie (Bussard) Bailey.&nbsp; Dale attended Elementary School District #63 in Hayes County where he received his Elementary School Diploma. Dale enlisted in the United States Army on February 1952 and was Honorably Discharged on February 25, 1954. On September 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Beverly Smith at North Platte, NE.&nbsp; The couple enjoyed 67 years of marriage.| Dale worked for many years as a mechanic for Boulder Motorways in Colorado until 1977.&nbsp; Dale and Bev purchased a gas station and repair shop called the D &amp; B Service in Culbertson. Dale loved camping, hunting, fishing, woodworking and especially time with family. Dale served on the Board of Housing Authority for 17 years.&nbsp; He was an instructor for Hunter Safety. Dale was a member of the American Legion Post #59.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Millie; sisters: Geraldine Mowry, Annabelle Ebert, infant Fern, Lola Mae (Roland) Wilke; brothers: Edward, Melvin, Edgar and Marlin. Dale was born on the home place in Hayes County, NE on July 27, 1931, to Ervin and Millie (Bussard) Bailey.&nbsp; Dale attended Elementary School District #63 in Hayes County where he received his Elementary School Diploma. Dale enlisted in the United States Army on February 1952 and was Honorably Discharged on February 25, 1954. On September 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Beverly Smith at North Platte, NE.&nbsp; The couple enjoyed 67 years of marriage.| Dale worked for many years as a mechanic for Boulder Motorways in Colorado until 1977.&nbsp; Dale and Bev purchased a gas station and repair shop called the D &amp; B Service in Culbertson. &nbsp; Marles Yvonne Rowley was born Dec. 3, 1938 in Imperial, Nebraska to Clyde and Beulah (Einspahr) Purdy. The oldest of four children, she grew up and attended school in Wauneta, Nebraska. On September 11, 1954, she married Melvin K. Rowley in Holyoke, Colorado. They were blessed with 6 children. They resided in Chase County, Nebraska until 1984. While living in Nebraska, she worked for the Chase County Sheriff’s office and Chase County Hospital. In 1984, Melvin and Marles moved to Kansas. Marles worked several jobs and continued her education by getting her GED and attending classes at Colby Community College. Marles then moved on to continue her love of cooking, by managing restaurants in Grainfield and Herndon, Kansas as well as Wauneta, Nebraska. She was well known for her fried chicken, chicken fried steaks, dinner rolls and pies, but none of them measured up to her cinnamon rolls; in fact, when she was summoned for grandma duty, there was an unwritten rule that she had to bring her mixer to make cinnamon rolls. While living in Colby, Kansas she took pastoral classes, which she used to support others in their spiritual walk. After retirement in 2011, Marles moved to Grove, Oklahoma with her daughter Jodie until 2013. She then moved to Ogallala, Nebraska with her daughter Tammi until 2015, when they moved to Spring Hill, Florida, residing there until the time of her death. Marles also loved to sew for her family and friends. She would spend hours sewing wedding dresses for the bride, bridesmaids, flower girl, prom dresses, and school clothes. At the beginning of the Covid pandemic, Marles saw the need for masks and sewed hundreds of masks that she donated to an elementary school and family. She also had a talent for baking, decorating cakes and quilting for family and friends. Marles also had a love for long drives in the country, gardening, canning, watching birds outside her window, and listening to Christian music. Marles was called to her heavenly home on August 10, 2022 at age 83. Marles Y Rowley (1938-2022)

&nbsp;Gary E. Talich, 76, of Grant, passed away August 12, 2022, at his home. Gary was born in Sidney, NE, on June 25, 1946, to Lloyd and Geraldine (Cruise) Talich. He grew up on a farm north of Sidney and attended school at District #77 and Sidney Jr. High and High School, graduating in 1964. He was active in 4-H, Order of DeMolay, sports, and band. Gary went on to graduate from The University of Wyoming in 1968 with a degree in Agronomy. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Benzel, in 1966, and they were blessed with two children: Renee and Lance. They celebrated 56 years together. Upon graduation from UW, Gary took a job with Del Monte Foods in Burley, ID. In order to be nearer to family, an employment change brought Gary and Sharon back to McCook, NE, in 1976, where Gary worked for NC+ Hybrids. The family moved to Grant in 1983, where friends helped to fulfill Gary's long-time goal of being a farmer. When Mother Nature decided he was no longer going to be a farmer; Gary relied on his education and experience and went on to work as a sales agronomist for Wendell's Fertilizer, Cenex, and Grant Coop. In 2001, Gary was offered the position of Fertilizer Plant Manager for Ag Valley Coop, and they moved to Curtis, NE. In 2006, they returned to Grant, where Gary was Branch Manager for Frenchman Valley Coop, retiring in 2015. Gary loved the outdoors; his favorite time was being with his wife, children, and grandchildren while camping on the beach. Gary spent many hours on the water fishing, boating, and water skiing and was always available to teach kids how to ski. He got great pleasure in tending his crops and, in later years, his lawn and garden. Gary liked to work with his hands and liked carpentry. In his life, he put an addition on their house in McCook, did finish work on a new home, and remodeled a good share of their house in Grant. Gary was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, serving on many committees. He served on the Perkins County High School Board and the Grant Schools Board. He was a member of the Grant Lions Club and a Master Mason. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Suzanne (Talich) Solano. Survivors include his wife, Sharon, daughter, Renee (Sam) Seiler of Grant, son Lance (Shannon) Talich of Holyoke, CO, grandchildren, Austin and Aryn Seiler, Brandon and Mackenzie Talich, brother Larry (Wanda) of Sidney, along with many other relatives and friends. Leon James Harbur, 2 months, of Gothenburg, NE, went to be with Jesus on August 10, 2022 in Gothenburg, NE

Leon was born June 17, 2022 at Great Plains Health, in North Platte, NE son of Tanner Harbur and Jessie Craig. Leon was attracted to the colors pink, red and purple, this was the reason that Tanner's hair was purple! He always wanted to hold onto his parent's cross necklaces while he cuddled next to them. "Heat Waves" was the song which his parents sang to him the first week of his life. Leon was such a strong, perfect little boy, always excited to game with dad. Leon was a blessing to everyone and was loved by all as soon as they laid their eyes on him.&nbsp;

Todd M. Fritz, 57, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2022 at his home. Born on March 24, 1965 in Cambridge, NE he was the son of Martin L. and Sundae M. (Mues) Fritz. Todd graduated from Bartley Public School and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1983-87. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist, retiring in 2022. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was in the process of restoring a vintage motorcycle. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Todd’s memory are his daughter, Paula Fritz of North Platte; son, Ben Fritz of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Ava and Jaiden; sisters, Marla (Shane) Messersmith of McCook, and Tracy Moon of North Platte; nieces and nephews, Colin, Kylie, and Karsen Messersmith, Nathan, and Jessica Moon. Todd was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Dennis Fritz.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Patricia Louise Vinton was born February 2, 1934, in Hyannis, Nebraska to Willard and Frances (Motl) Vinton.&nbsp; The oldest of five children, Pat grew up on the family ranch south of Whitman.&nbsp; Like many Sandhillers born during early ranch establishment, she and her siblings worked long days with their parents harvesting and feeding hay with draft horses, caring for cattle, tending enormous gardens, milking cows, raising chickens, and building and fixing fence.&nbsp; They lived in a small, primitive house until Pat was 15, when she helped dig out the basement for the new house using horses, or often, just a shovel.&nbsp; The children attended primary school on horseback two miles down the valley.&nbsp; Pat went on to high school at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance where she boarded during the school year.&nbsp; She earned her teaching certificate from Chadron State College, and commenced her career of over four decades of teaching in various rural schools from Tryon to Bingham.&nbsp; “Miss Vinton” or “Miss Pat,” as she was fondly known, was very strict, but also generous and kind, with unwavering dedication to her students.&nbsp; During the summers, she helped mow and put up hay on the home ranch using a dump rake.&nbsp; Her attention to not leaving any scatterings behind, ever, set the bar impossibly high for anyone who would dare substitute for her in the hayfield.&nbsp; Pat also spent many summers haying for Leonard Boyer, whom she held in the highest of regard.&nbsp; Another of her talents was spinal adjustments, which she learned at a school in New Mexico in the sixties and provided for many grateful patients over the years.&nbsp; Her generosity extended to providing her family with eggs, cookies, mini loaves of poppy seed bread, fudge, canned tomatoes and pickles; and later, smuggling the snacks and drinks from the assisted living facility out to her visitors.&nbsp; Pat loved to give things to people but loathed to receive gifts, she refused to use the dishwasher, she secretly loved to dance, she took great care of her car, and she loved Chinese food and the Lawrence Welk show.&nbsp; She was not afraid to tell a person what she thought, she was fiercely independent, and strong as an ox.&nbsp; The most important thing to her was her Catholic faith, so she said her prayers and rosary daily and never missed mass. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Pat is survived by her sister Rosalie (John) Jarboe of Waco, TX; her brother Bill (Eithe) Vinton of Mullen; brother-in-law Dan Sahli of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews in Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Scotland, and England.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Geri Haire and Mary Sahli; her brother-in-law Jon Haire; and her niece Karen Haire.

Anna Elizabeth Montey, age 72, of McCook, NE passed away at her home in McCook on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Anna was born November 7, 1949, in McCook to parents Anton August and Catherine Anna (Colling) Blume.&nbsp; She was one of seven children who grew up in McCook, attending school and graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1968.&nbsp; Anna went on to attend Kearney State College in Kearney, NE, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in education with a minor in early childhood education.&nbsp;

On August 3, 1974, Anna married the love of her life, Jerry Dean Montey at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad, NE.&nbsp; The couple was blessed with six children: Tera, Kristin, Brett, Brian, Sara and Kelli.&nbsp; Anna began her teaching career in Cozad before returning to McCook.&nbsp; Anna was a lifelong teacher, retiring in 2016 after twenty-eight years plus of teaching. Aside from her students, Anna loved reading, making rosaries and spending time with her family and grandchildren, attending their activities and sporting events. She was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Our Lady of Fatima Circle, St. Patrick’s Altar Society, women’s bible study and a CCD Teacher.&nbsp;

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Darmon (Eileen) Montey; and her brother-in-law, Doug Montey.

&nbsp; Mr. Delbert Ridenour, age 67, of Culbertson, NE passed away at his home in Culbertson on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. Delbert was born March 27, 1955, in Cabool, Missouri to parents John and Eloise (Blagdon) Ridenour. He attended Cabool High School and grew up in the area until moving to Texas in his 20's. In 1982, Delbert married Nancy (Smotherman) Ridenour in Odessa, TX. Together they moved to Nebraska in the late 80's to raise their children: Bryan, John, Justin, Alicia, and Twila. Delbert was a truck driver and shop manager/mechanic in his lifetime. In early 2000s, he raced little pickups, and Delbert’s racing name was Silver Bullet. He may not have won every race, but he always came out with a smile on his face. Delbert was a member of Trenton Golf Club, found comfort in fishing, and enjoyed having a beer or moonshine with his friends and family. Delbert is survived by his wife Nancy (Smotherman) Ridenour; his children Bryan Smotherman of Culbertson, NE, John (Candy) Madera of Beatrice, NE, Justin Bright of Culbertson, NE, Twila (Mike) MacFarland of LaPine, Oregon, and Alicia (James) Hegwood; brother in laws Eddie Smotherman of Pueblo, CO and Robert Smotherman (Janice) of Tularosa, NM; sister Velora (Ted) Zapp of Culbertson, NE; and special niece Heather (Kenny) Adams of Palisade, NE. David Allen Werner, age 70, of Palisade, NE passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at his home in Palisade.

David was born October 11, 1951 in Carroll, IA to parents Arthur William and Rose Margaret (Anderson) Werner.&nbsp; He was one of five children. David attended school in Salt Lake City, UT, graduating from high school in 1969. Following high school, David enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1973. David married Judy (Conley) Werner and was a father to three children: William, Sheryl Anne and Kristi.&nbsp; He enjoyed racing, both watching and participating. He never missed a televised NASCAR race. &nbsp;Over the years he worked as a truck driver and was a mechanic. David’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Pete; and two sisters. Those left to celebrate his life include his children, William and wife Brook Werner of Palisade, Sheryl Anne Werner and Kristi and husband Kia Brookshier, both of Oregon; ex wife, Judy Werner of Palisade; sister, Barbara (Joe) Claus of Alice, TX; and grandchildren, Noah, Severine, Mackenzie, Kelton, Michael, McKenna, Kianna.&nbsp;

Sandra (Sandy) Stencel passed away on August 10, 2022 at the age of 82 in Spofford, New Hampshire with her family surrounding her.&nbsp;

Sandy was born to Oliver and Elna Kibben in Sterling, Colorado on September 5, 1939. She grew up on a ranch near New Raymer, Colorado, graduated valedictorian of her high school class, and attended Colorado State University. In 1958, Sandy married Everett Stencel. They lived in Ft. Collins, Colorado while Everett finished veterinary school. After Everett graduated in 1963,the couple moved to Curtis, NE to establish a veterinary practice and eventually farm the Kibben family farm. Following Everett’s death in 1989, Sandy purchased the Curtis Flower Shop and continued her involvement in numerous organizations and activities. As a talented artist, Sandy was known for her animal art on almost any paintable surface. She was active in 4-H, Scouts, the Congregational Church,Curtis Easter Pageant, Medicine Creek Economic Development Board and Chamber of Commerce,Medicine Valley Foundation and School Board, Chapter CG PEO, TeamMates, Star Theater Board, and many other activities over the years. Sandy took great pride in being an active member of the community and was awarded the Citizen of the Year for Curtis in 2012. After living in Curtis for over 50 years, Sandy moved to Spoffod, NH to be with her companion Dr. Clyde Johnson. Together, Sandy and Clyde shared a love of cooking, reading, traveling, enjoying nature, and visiting family and friends allover the country and spending winters in Florida.

Sandy is survived by her sons Mark (Margy) of Valentine, NE; David (Kathleen) of Lincoln, NE; Brian (Tammy) of Beaverton, OR; and daughter Linda (Kirk) Hartman of Lincoln, NE; companion Dr. Clyde Johnson; and sister Janet Kohl of Berthoud, CO, along with numerous grandchildren.&nbsp; She is proceeded in death by her husband Everett, and her sister Carol Unruh of Kenai, Alaska.

Interment will be at the Curtis Cemetery in the fall.&nbsp; A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held in Spofford, NH on September 10, in Curtis in mid-October, and South Venice Florida at a date to be determined. Memorials can be sent to any of Sandy’s favorite interests including the music ministry at Swanzey N.H. Congregational Church, the Venice, FL Presbyterian Church, Curtis Community Foundation, or any charity of your choice where you can make a difference in the lives of others.

She was active in 4-H, Scouts, the Congregational Church,Curtis Easter Pageant, Medicine Creek Economic Development Board and Chamber of Commerce,Medicine Valley Foundation and School Board, Chapter CG PEO, TeamMates, Star Theater Board, and many other activities over the years. Sandy took great pride in being an active member of the community and was awarded the Citizen of the Year for Curtis in 2012. After living in Curtis for over 50 years, Sandy moved to Spoffod, NH to be with her companion Dr. Clyde Johnson. Together, Sandy and Clyde shared a love of cooking, reading, traveling, enjoying nature, and visiting family and friends allover the country and spending winters in Florida.Sandy is survived by her sons Mark (Margy) of Valentine, NE; David (Kathleen) of Lincoln, NE; Brian (Tammy) of Beaverton, OR; and daughter Linda (Kirk) Hartman of Lincoln, NE; companion Dr. Clyde Johnson; and sister Janet Kohl of Berthoud, CO, along with numerous grandchildren.&nbsp; She is proceeded in death by her husband Everett, and her sister Carol Unruh of Kenai, Alaska.Interment will be at the Curtis Cemetery in the fall.&nbsp; A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held in Spofford, NH on September 10, in Curtis in mid-October, and South Venice Florida at a date to be determined. Rodney Lynn Scott, 84, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Linden Court surrounded by his family. Rodney was born on January 17, 1938 in Max, NE the son of Frederick and Margaret (Crow) Scott. Rodney graduated from Max High School in 1955. He was married to Betty Brown on October 9, 1955. They lived in Borger, Texas, for four years, where Steven Lee was born on Dec. 3, 1956, and Kent Wayne on July 17, 1959. Rod was a construction laborer until 1956 when he became an apprentice bricklayer which became his life work. The family moved back to Nebraska in November 1959 and lived in Max and Kearney before moving to North Platte in 1961. There, Lynne Marie was born Oct. 27, 1962, and Karen Sue on April 29, 1964, who passed shortly after birth. In 1961, Rod and Jack McClellen formed Scott-McClellen Masonry. Rod laid bricks at the Veterans Memorial and helped on the mural as well, retiring in 2009. Rod loved his family and friends foremost. He enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles since 1953 and was a HOG member and treasurer of the local club for 5 years. He became an avid woodcarver in his retirement years and was a lifelong member of the NRA. Rod was a 60-year member of the First United Methodist Church, and placed his faith in God, as a very important part of his daily life.

David J. Zeigler, 51, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at his home.

Born on January 28, 1971 in Sutherland, NE he was the son of Gordon and Phyllis (Kuehl) Zeigler.

David graduated from North Platte High School in 1990 and worked for over thirty years as a cook at Roger’s Fine Food Restaurant until its closing. He loved cooking and could always be found in the kitchen. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, RC cars, and his pet dogs and cats. He also enjoyed doing small engine repairs and loved the 4th of July holiday. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish David’s memory are his sisters, Christy (Randy) Cauffman and Dixie (Russ) Dahlgren both of North Platte; brother, Lee Zeigler of North Platte; nieces and nephews, Erin Zeigler, Megan Dahlgren, Joshua Cauffman, Makenzie Dahlgren, Andrew Cauffman; great-nephew, Cooper Kelley.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Patrick Bryan Grossman was born on March 29, 1974 in Wichita, Kansas to Jim Grossman, Sr. and Karen Grossman.&nbsp; He graduated from high school and entered directly into the workforce.&nbsp; Pat held many jobs, but he was happiest when he was working with his hands.&nbsp; From a young age, he enjoyed figuring out how things worked, and this translated into his career as a mechanic.&nbsp; He was a trusted employee of Larry Lashley for many years, and he was able to get almost anything up and running again. &nbsp; &nbsp; When not working, Patrick enjoyed fishing and a good drive to clear his head.&nbsp; He loved all animals, especially his dogs.&nbsp; He had a green thumb and enjoyed keeping a clean and organized home.&nbsp; Patrick will be most remembered for his warm heart and his willingness to drop everything to help a friend. &nbsp; &nbsp; Patrick passed away due to motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. He was 48 years of age. &nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his son, Brice and his Grossman and Wilson grandparents. &nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include his father, Jim Grossman, Sr of Kansas; mother, Karen Kuhlmann of Kansas; children: Jacob, Lilly, Hayden, Malachi, and Jeremiah; brother, Jim Grossman, Jr.; sister, Kristie Patterson; as well as three step-brothers and one step-sister.

&nbsp; Michael Robert Sorensen was born September 26, 1967, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Bonnie Kay (Bloom) and Robert Orville Sorensen. Mike grew up in Wheatland, Wyoming, and graduated from Wheatland High School with the class of 1986. He continued his education at Chadron State College where he excelled in football and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education in 1993 and later a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Doane College in 2006. On July 31, 1993, Mike married Nancy Ruth Schnell in Las Vegas, NV, and to this union two children were born: Bethany and Isaac. As teachers, Mike and Nancy lived in several communities in Wyoming and Nebraska including Big Piney, Ansley, Alliance, Leigh, Imperial, Grand Island, Grant and most recently Wauneta. Mike began his career in education at Big Piney High School in Wyoming as a teacher and a coach. The family moved to Nebraska in 1997 where Mike continued teaching and coaching at Alliance High School along with Ansley High School and Leigh Community High School. In 2006, Mike joined the staff at Chase County Schools in Imperial as the 7-12 Principal and coach where he was employed for 9 years. Mike would later become the Athletic Director at Grand Island Northwest Schools before moving back to the Grant/Imperial area to teach at Chase County again for 2 more years. Recently, Mike had started his first year at Wauneta-Palisade High School as the 7-12 Principal, Athletic Director, Transportation Director, and Head Boys’ Basketball Coach. Mike was a member of the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals and NCSA – Nebraska Council of School Administrators. Mike enjoyed lifting weights, fishing, reading, playing video games, watching sporting events, laughing and taking a nap. He especially loved spending time with his family. Mike passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial, NE. He was 54 years of age. Donald " Don" Lehl age 78, of Brule died Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant.&nbsp;

Don was born July 31, 1944, in North Platte, NE to Edward and Pauline (Brehm)&nbsp; Lehl. He grew up in Ogallala and attended Ogallala High School.&nbsp; He married Judy Griffiths on Dec. 26, 1964, in Brule at St. John's Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Don had many jobs including working at Safeway, Sixth Street,&nbsp; Culligan Water, and&nbsp; R and D construction with his father-in-law. Don went to work for Kiewit Construction while they were building the Hydro plant at Lake McConaughy.&nbsp; In 1986,&nbsp; he went to work for the Keith County Court House for&nbsp; 25 years and retired from there in 2011. He was a 20-year member of the Brule Lion's Club and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Brule. He lived in Ogallala and Brule all his life. Don enjoyed car shows, demolition derby, collected marbles and miniature cars.&nbsp; Don enjoyed spending time with his kids and Grandkids.
