&nbsp; &nbsp; Rosetta Louise Natasha Evon Ruth Judd was born on June 7, 1993 in Omaha, Nebraska to Garold and Tamera (Jensen) Judd. She was homeschooled and furthered her education at Mid Plains Community College with aspirations to attend a university and major in the arts.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Rosetta was a digital creator with her own YouTube channel. She used her platform to interview many local artists as well as small business owners. She also shared some cooking content and will forever be remembered for her body positivity message and open and kind heart. She was a member of Foster Club and Project Everlast. She loved her dog, Koki with all her heart and will be remembered by her friends and family as a genuine soul and a true friend.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Rosetta passed away on June 20, 2024 at her home in Omaha. She was 31 years old.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Keith Judd (Edna Wallace) and Thomas Jensen (Betty Price) as well as numerous uncles.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include her parents, Garold Judd, Sr. of North Platte and Tamera Judd of Ogallala; brother, Garold Judd, Jr. (fiancé, Rebeca Sorenson) of North Platte, Nebraska; and a large extended family and countless friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Memorial services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook followed services.

Linda Mae Schmidt (1950-2024)

Myron Lamont Bassett, 76, of Ogallala, NE, passed away on July 8, 2024, at his home.

Myron was born on December 1, 1947, in Kimball, SD, the son of Vernon Glen and Virginia May (Ostrander) Bassett.

Myron spent his early years in York, NE, and on August 3, 1968, Myron married Dorisla "Doris" M. Kramer. Though the couple would later divorce, their union was blessed with four children: Tammy, Kevin, William, and Edward.

Myron moved to Ogallala in 1997 to be closer to family. He worked as a welder throughout his career, notably for Zimmatic and TA, before retiring in 2007. He was known for his ornery yet funny demeanor, love for the Huskers, and enjoyment of NASCAR, Coca-Cola, and Eagles. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and lived life to the fullest.

Myron is survived by his children, Tammy Rose of York, Kevin Bassett of McCool Junction, William (Amanda) Bassett of Aurora, and Edward (Tonya) Bassett of Ogallala; his siblings, Robert Myers, Glen Bassett, and Juanita Crago; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Glen Bassett and Virginia May Ostrander.

Interment of cremains will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Albion at a later date.

Donald&nbsp;Deck, Jr., age 75, peacefully passed away July 8, 2024, at his home in North Platte after a long battle with lung disease.

Don, the son of Lavawn and Don Deck, Sr., was born August 23, 1948, at Garden City, KS. &nbsp;The family lived in various states before settling in North Platte. &nbsp;In September of 1966, Don enlisted into the U.S. Army. &nbsp;During his service he did his basic training at Ft. Bliss, TX, then was stationed in Germany before being sent to Vietnam where he served from Febr. 1968 to Febr. 1969 during the TET Offensive. &nbsp;During his three years of active duty, Don received many accommodations including the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars.

Following his honorable discharge, Don returned home and was able to attend North Platte Voc Tech on the G.I. Bill. &nbsp;He was schooled in auto body then went to work for Joe Dye Ford. &nbsp;In 1979 Don hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad and spent 30 years with the railroad working as a fireman/oiler. &nbsp;

On November 14, 2008, Don married Cheryl Garrett in North Platte. &nbsp;He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Nebraska Cornhuskers and after retiring in 2009, he had more time to spend with his family and friends. &nbsp;Don will be greatly missed!

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lavawn Hagedorn; son, Lance Deck; grandson, Rolland Tockey, Jr.; and father-in-law, Roger Musgrave.

Don leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, sister, Janet Carlton, and daughters, Chasity Deck and Audrey Tockey, all of North Platte; stepchildren, Lindsay Madron (Lance) of Omaha, Jennifer Hagen (Jim) of North Platte, Nina Garrett of Hastings and Michael Garrett of Decatur, MI; mother-in-law, Barbara Musgrave of Kearney; 9 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jason Citta for all the care and compassion he has shown to Don the past 20 years.

Donald Edward Deck, Jr. (1948-2024)

Dale W. Manary, aged 70, of Wallace, passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte on July 8, 2024. &nbsp;Born to James and Pauline (Tucker) Manary in North Platte on February 15, 1954, he was one of four boys.&nbsp;

Dale’s life was spent in and around Midwest Nebraska, attending school and raising his family. &nbsp;He graduated from North Platte High School and immediately began working at Union Pacific Railroad the night of graduation. &nbsp;On August 31, 1979, Dale married Becky Kotschwar at the Methodist Church in Wellfleet, NE. &nbsp;The couple had four children: Ann, Amanda, Christopher, and Amy. &nbsp;Dale was initially hired on as a conductor for UPRR and eventually retired in 2015 as a foreman, a position he took in order to stay close to home for his kids and his grandkids.&nbsp;

Dale was a proud father and an even prouder grandfather. &nbsp;He was ornery, cantankerous and a friend to everyone, as well as a lover of Coca Cola. &nbsp;There was never a shopping trip to the grocery store without Dale stopping to talk to a handful of people along the way. &nbsp;He did things at his own pace, including the drive home; 35 mph was the maximum speed he drove on the back roads because he was a “master of gawking”, at all the beautiful scenery the Midwest has to offer. &nbsp;

Survivors of Dale include his wife of nearly 45 years, Becky of Wallace; four children, Ann (Joe) Aufdengarten of Wauneta, Amanda (Tim) Odell of North Platte, Chris (Randi) Manary of Wallace, Amy (Brett) Widger of Hayes Center; 10 grandchildren, Austin, Laila, Derik, Payge, Caleb, Isaiah, Tristan, Lydia, Emersyn, Payzlee; brother, Rich (Jan) Manary of North Platte; sisters-in-law, Nancy Ruppert of Culbertson and Joan Manary of North Platte; along with many nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob Manary and James Manary; late wife of James, Diane Manary; and his two eldest nephews.

Donna Marie Keithley, 92, life-long resident of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital. Donna was born on June 9, 1932 in North Platte, the daughter of Arthur and Getty (Greeley) Stewart. &nbsp;After the early passing of her mother, she was raised by her stepmother, Pearl (Larsen) Stewart.

Donna grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. &nbsp;She became an apprentice beautician and opened several beauty shops in the North Platte area over her 45-year career as a beautician. &nbsp;She married Gerald Shaner and had two sons, Gary Shaner and Mark Shaner. &nbsp;She later was married to William “Bill” R. Keithley on January 21, 1984 in Las Vegas, NV. &nbsp;Donna was an active volunteer in the community especially with the soup supper. &nbsp;She was also an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. &nbsp;She loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and in her younger years enjoyed outings and spending time with her many friends. &nbsp;She also enjoyed interior decorating and design and was always very welcoming to others in her home, especially during the holidays. &nbsp;She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. &nbsp;

Donna was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Getty; stepmother, Pearl; husband, Bill; son, Gary Shaner; brothers, Lawrence, Chester, and Richard Stewart; sisters, June Gosnell, and Elnora Stewart; stepbrothers, Marion and Sherman Larsen.

Those left to cherish Donna’s memory are her son, Mark Shaner of North Platte; step daughters, Leisa (Donald) Klinge of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kristine Schwager of North Platte; daughter in law, Ulla Lehman Shaner of Germany; grandchildren, Cheyenne Shaner, Cimarron (Tessa) Shaner; step grandchildren, Derek Klinge, Kaitlyn (Kadyn) Moody, Tyler Johnson, Cole Schwager, and Savanna Schwager; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Donna Marie Keithley (1932-2024)

Scott Martin Doty, of Fremont, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 4th, 2024, at the age of 61.

Scott was born November 15, 1962, in Broken Bow, he was the fourth child to Bill and Mary Doty. He was Baptized and Confirmed at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Scott graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1981 and enrolled at Southeast Community College in Milford, NE where he received an Applied Sciences Degree in Electrical Technology in 1982. His hobbies as a young man included playing football, Civil Air Patrol, Husker football, and pestering his older siblings.

In 1982, while living in Pleasant Dale he met the love of his life Lori and married her on April 22, 1983, in Pleasant Dale. Scott and Lori moved to Kansas in 1983 where Scott began his career as an electrician for IBP. While in Kansas they had three children: Ryan, Heather, and Kristin. While in Kansas, Scott spent his time raising his children, camping, and volunteering for the local fire department. Scott and Lori moved to Fremont in 1993 to be closer to their families and enjoyed boating, camping, gardening, chasing hot air balloons, and spending time with family and friends.

In 2011, Scott and Lori acquired a permanent camping spot on the Platte River where their camping friends became family. Scott’s more recent hobbies were camping, geocaching, air boating, feeding his wildlife critters, and spending time with his family. Scott was a big lover of all animals, especially his 3 cats at home, Kai, Peka, and Stumpy.

Scott is survived by his children; son Ryan (Jen) Doty; daughter Kristin Doty; grandsons Grayson and Gavin Doty; brother Pat (Linda) Doty, sister-in-law Susan Doty, brother-in-law Bruce (Marge) Koefoot; brothers and sisters-in-law Jeff (Barb) Ficke, Jerry (Cindy) Ficke, Amanda Forry, Brian (Angel) Ficke, Tracy (Betty) Ficke, Andy Ficke, Angie Ficke, Daniel Ficke and fiancé Danielle, Jordan Ficke, Lynne Ficke, Joni Ficke; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, feline kids, grand pups and grand kitties.

Scott is preceded in death by his wife Lori Doty; daughter Heather Doty; parents William and Mary Doty; sister Julie Koefoot; brother Mark Doty; and nephew Johnny Sullivan.

 </figure>Scott Martin Doty, of Fremont, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 4th, 2024, at the age of 61.Scott was born November 15, 1962, in Broken Bow, he was the fourth child to Bill and Mary Doty. He was Baptized and Confirmed at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Scott graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1981 and enrolled at Southeast Community College in Milford, NE where he received an Applied Sciences Degree in Electrical Technology in 1982. His hobbies as a young man included playing football, Civil Air Patrol, Husker football, and pestering his older siblings.In 1982, while living in Pleasant Dale he met the love of his life Lori and married her on April 22, 1983, in Pleasant Dale. Scott and Lori moved to Kansas in 1983 where Scott began his career as an electrician for IBP. While in Kansas they had three children: Ryan, Heather, and Kristin. While in Kansas, Scott spent his time raising his children, camping, and volunteering for the local fire department. Scott and Lori moved to Fremont in 1993 to be closer to their families and enjoyed boating, camping, gardening, chasing hot air balloons, and spending time with family and friends.In 2011, Scott and Lori acquired a permanent camping spot on the Platte River where their camping friends became family. Scott’s more recent hobbies were camping, geocaching, air boating, feeding his wildlife critters, and spending time with his family. Sylvia D. Betz Schurr of Eustis passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Elwood Care Center at the age of 88. Sylvia was born July 15, 1935 at Eustis, Nebraska to Herman and Erna (Fiene) Hablitzel. She graduated from Eustis High School with the class of 1953. Sylvia married Walter Betz on August 14, 1954 in Raton, New Mexico. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Annette and Joyce.

Sylvia taught country school, owned 3 restaurants, was the bookkeeper for the Eustis Coop Creamery and was an Amway direct distributor. She was instrumental in the start of the Eustis Senior Center and was the director until her retirement.

Sylvia married LaRaye Schurr on July 19, 2014 at Eustis, Nebraska. She gained 3 step children, Sherry, Glenda and Arlo.

Sylvia loved to sew and made many quilts for the whole family, but especially for the babies. She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and word searches. Her most treasured times were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Leonard Archie Spencer, born July 29, 1930 on the ranch west of Ringgold, Nebraska. &nbsp;The son of&nbsp;George Archie Spencer and Delia Edna (Warner) Spencer,&nbsp; he had one sister Ellouise McDaniel. &nbsp;Leonard departed this life on July 6, 2024, in North Platte, Nebraska.

Leonard attended grade school at the Childerston one-room school in McPherson County, Nebraska through the 6th grade. &nbsp;Then he moved to North Platte with his family where he finished his education. &nbsp;He went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad Fruit Express where he worked for 40 years. &nbsp;Leonard married Jennie Marie Rosendahl on February 18, 1949. &nbsp;To this marriage 7 children were born: Katherine Ann Culp, Leonard Dean Spencer, Dennis Lee Spencer, Joan Marie (Harley) Miller, Mary Jane Spencer, Larry Lane Spencer and Susan K. Spencer. &nbsp;Leonard loved to fish, hunt and was an avid gardener and bird watcher.

Christina "Chris" Wikle of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away at Great Plains Health on July 5, 2024, at age 75.

Chris, the daughter of Don and Velma Dancer, was born March 20, 1949, in North Platte where she grew up. &nbsp;In 1964 the family moved to Omaha and Chris went on to graduate from Central High School. &nbsp;

She lived and worked in various states before moving to the Kansas City, Missouri area and going to work for Hallmark. &nbsp;While working, Chris met Shawn Wikle and they married on June 22, 1985, in Independence, Missouri. &nbsp;The couple lived in different places until coming to North Platte in 2020.

Chris was a loving wife, mother, grandma and animal lover. &nbsp;She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Daniel Edwards; and daughter, Apryl Knobbe.

Chris is survived by her husband, Shawn; son, Christopher Knobbe (Jennifer) of Leander, TX; grandkids, Quinn and Ava Knobbe; her brother, Ken Dancer (Linda) of North Platte; and other family.

Donald Newell Baker, Sr was born December 19, 1933, in Purdum, NE to Doran and Blanche (White) Baker. Don worked and managed different ranches. Don eventually bought and drove the truck up until he retired at age 78.

On February 24, 1978, he married Donna Hite in Aurora, NE. The couple lived in Brewster for over 20 years. Don enjoyed gardening, fixing things, and always trying to make things better.

Don is survived by his wife Donna of Brewster, children Christine Sittler (Marty Riddle) of Mullen, Donald (Jeanine) Baker, Jr of Brewster, Pamela (Cecil) Coons of Mullen, and Samuel (Sherri) of North Platte, stepchildren William (Tonya) Spiegel of Council Bluffs, IA and Clinton Spiegel of Omaha, eleven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Cathy Clarke (1970-2024)

Joan Beckman Sommer, 87, formerly of Lexington, passed away on July 3, 2024, at Country House in Kearney, Nebraska.

She was born in rural Gosper County to Wesley and Dora (Stubbendieck) Stine. Joan attended Bertrand High School and graduated with the class of 1954.

Joan was united in marriage to Donald Beckman on April 24, 1955, at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield, Nebraska. To this union they welcomed four daughters: Dorinda "Rindy", Diane, Dona, and Deanna "Dee Dee". The couple made their home in Lexington where Joan worked at the Lexington Public Library, Reach Electronics, Home Federal Bank, and for Paul Matson at Sun America.

Joan was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Along with being active in the church, she was a member of Mrs. Jaycees and the Extension Club. Joan's many hobbies included traveling, taking care of her flowers, reading, watching birds, and spending time with her family.

Following Don's passing, Joan traveled, and on her travels she met Delbert Sommer and later the couple married and made their home in Maxwell, Nebraska. After Delbert's passing, Joan moved to Kearney, Nebraska to be closer to her family.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Rindy (Jeff) Zink, Diane (Terry) Wohlers, and Dona (John) McCarter; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren with another on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Burkhead, Judy (Drew) Pierson, and Shari Beyer; brother-in-law, Dennis (Joan) Beckman and sister-in-law, Donna Sundstrom; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Dora Stine, husbands, Donald Beckman and Delbert Sommer, and daughter Deanna Beckman.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington, with Pastor John Strackbein, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Along with being active in the church, she was a member of Mrs. Jaycees and the Extension Club. &nbsp; &nbsp; Oralene Marie (Hall) Winchell, age 80, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 6, 2024, after a short losing battle with cancer. She was born in Mitchell, Nebraska on September 24, 1943, the daughter of Oral and Pansy (Trauernicht) Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ruth Snare; sister-in- law; Judy Hall; brothers- in-law, Ken McMillan and Jesse Crain; nieces, Kelley Crane and Tracy Walker; nephew, Tyler Hall; and numerous aunts uncles, and cousins.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Oralene attended and graduated from Mitchell High School, received her B.A. from Kearney State College, and her master’s degree from Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. On May 5, 1990, she married Jim Winchell in Garden City, Kansas. Oralene and Jim began married life in Aurora, Colorado.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Oralene taught choir, vocal music and band from elementary school to college in Nebraska, Oregon, Colorado, and Kansas. She was the director of the Salem Argonauts Drum and Bugle Corp. She also taught piano and vocal music, in her home. She retaught herself to play organ for Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. She wrote and directed plays and musicals for various charitable organizations. In her spare time, she painted landscapes and greeting cards.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She is survived by her husband, Jim Winchell; her son, Ross (Kristen) Hoffman of Brighton, Colorado; daughter, Ronda Hoffman of Denver. Oralene M. Winchell (1943-2024)

Janice J. Sanftner, of Albert Lea, MN, passed away on March 27, 2024, at home in Minnesota.

Jan was born on May 2, 1947, in Covington, KY, to Joseph and Hazel (Land) Mertes. She grew up in the Air Force, attending different schools nearly every year before marrying Gail Sanftner, whom she met in Colorado. They were wed and blessed with one son, David, who was the light of Jan's life.

Jan was an entrepreneur who excelled in sales all her life. She was a true businesswoman, from owning a Kirby Vacuum franchise to selling Tupperware and even running a ceramic shop. Later in life, she ventured into the world of mortgage brokering.

While operating the Kirby franchise, Jan met Alex Jara, and their friendship eventually blossomed into a long and fulfilling companionship. In 2015, Jan and Alex moved to North Platte, NE, to be near the Jara family. Alex passed away in 2016. Most recently, Jan had been making her home in Minnesota to be closer to her relatives.

Jan's love for playing cards and gambling was a testament to her adventurous spirit, making many memorable gambling trips "up the hill" with her lifelong friend, Judy Dumler. While living in Minnesota, she always looked forward to playing Pokeno with her sister and their friends, a game that brought them joy and laughter. Her creative spirit was always at work throughout her life, most recently in her newest hobby of creating beautiful diamond art paintings.

Jan is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Christine Sanftner; her five grandchildren: Orion Sanftner and his fiancée Jasmyn Wright, Isaiah Sanftner, Noah Sanftner, Josiah Sanftner, and Emma Sanftner, all of Idaho; a sister, Bev Loos; many nieces and nephews-special among whom were Brian and his wife, Jennifer Loos, and Brandi and her husband, Tim Dirkes, all of Minnesota-along with many other relatives and friends and her loving dog, Annie.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Gail Sanftner in 2000 and Alex Jara in 2016; and a brother, Steven Mertes.

Glenn Smith (1935-2024)

Jesse Rios, 68 Years, of Gothenburg, died July 4, 2024 at his home in Gothenburg.&nbsp;

He was born August 31, 1955 in Georgetown, TX, son of Julian and Consuello (Escobar) Rios.

Jesse was one of 14 children and lived in Texas and Nebraska growing up. He met Karla Bice in 1978 at a graduation party and they married in 1979 in Lexington, Nebraska. To this union two children were born: Zachary in February 1983 and Vanessa on her dad's birthday August 31, 1984. He received his GED in Lexington in 1983. They lived in Lexington until 1984 when they moved to Colorado after Vanessa was born. The kids were raised in the Denver metro area until they moved back to Gothenburg in 2001. Jesse helped with Boy Scouts and helped coach both soccer and basketball for Zac and Vanessa. He enjoyed golf until he injured his hand in a work accident while working at the City of Lexington. Jesse also worked at the Darr Packing Plant and Cornland Dressed Beef before he was hired at Dawson County Roads Department and learned to operate heavy equipment. In Colorado, he worked at a wholesale pharmaceutical company where he had the opportunity to receive tickets to many Denver Nuggets basketball games. He also worked at Anheuser Busch before settling in at the City of Greenwood Village to drive heavy equipment again. He returned his family to Gothenburg and worked at Lincoln County Roads in 2001. He started working at the City of Lexington in 2005. He continued driving heavy equipment and was responsible for maintenance and supervising the city cemeteries. Jesse was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2021 and was treated until December 2023 when he retired from the city.&nbsp;

Jesse LOVED watching his granddaughters grow and participate in ALL activities and sports. He spent many weekends attending their events and games in the same manner he did with Zac and Vanessa. Jesse loved sports, and anything related to the Nebraska Cornhuskers-except baseball and said many times he'd rather watch golf than baseball! Jesse always had a smile on his face (which sometimes got him in trouble)! He loved to tease his family and children.

Survivors include wife, Karla Sue Rios of Gothenburg; daughter, Vanessa Holbein of Gothenburg; three granddaughters, Taysia Holbein, Audrey Holbein and Charisma Lenz; four brothers, Raymond Rios of Wahoo, Joe (Herminia) Rios of Kearney, Julian Jr. Rios of Fremont, and Gabriel Rios of Kearney; seven sisters, Herlinda "Linda" Reyes of Ft. Collins, CO; Guadalupe "Lupe" (Don) Jones of West Palm Beach, FL; Irene (Richard) Kacprzicki of Pensacola, FL; Mercedes "Mercy" (Refugio) Bueno of Lexington, Margarita "Margie" (Larry) Cain of Texarkana, TX; and Maria Rios of Lexington; sisters-in-law Maryann Rios of Prague and Cindy Soller of Gothenburg; three brothers-in-law David Bice of Eustis, Kevin (Patty) Bice of Broomfield, CO; and Ron (Zeth) Bice of Tampa, FL; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Jesse Rios (1955-2024)

Also known as Dr. Don Cain or “Doc” and “Donnie” to his Wife &amp; Burwell friends &amp; family.

Dr. Donald V. Cain, Jr. 64 of Broken Bow, NE departed this physical life July 1, 2024, at his home with his loving wife &amp; helpmate holding his hand.

Don was born August 9th, 1959, in Burwell, Nebraska to Jeanne L. (Chaffin) &amp; Donald V. Cain, Sr. Don was a 5th generation Cattleman &amp; Nebraskan and was very proud of that; he had one younger brother Randall “Randy”. He lived in Burwell until he went off to college to become a successful Veterinarian. He was very active as a youth in 4-H showing cattle and horses. His family owned and was active racing quarter horses. Some of Don’s favorite memories were the times he spent at his grandparent’s (Chaffin) ranch where they raised Hereford cattle, and where his love for Herefords and cattle began. Don bought his first cow around age 9 and his first bull when he was 15. In high school he played sports, was on the drama and speech team, and loved to sing; Don excelled in all he did. Like most teenage boys he loved his car, a gold Cougar XR7. In the summers he worked with his Uncle Paul Cain doing carpentry and painting.&nbsp;

&nbsp;After high school, he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln; was a Farmhouse fraternity brother and part of the Innocents Society. Dr. Cain graduated with his B.S. in Agricultural Honors, Chemistry &amp; Biology. He then continued his education at Kansas State University and received his Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine, as well as his M.S. in Pathology.

During his career, he held USDA National Veterinarian Accreditation in Nebraska, Kentucky, Iowa, Ohio, Montana and licensing in South Dakota and Kansas. He was active in the Nebraska Livestock Emergency Disaster Response System and was an “Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska”.

Dr. Cain was an active board member of ICON (Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska), and recently appointed to USDA Cattlemen’s Beef Board. He put 100%+ into everything he did. He wasn’t afraid of hard work or to fight for what was right. He participated several times at the Governor’s Ag Conference, as well as testified in the Nebraska Legislature for the rights of cattlemen, landowners, and taxpayers, where he won several cases at the Nebraska Supreme court.

Don was not afraid of hard work and long hours, as that was pretty much his everyday routine; he worked harder and longer than anyone who worked for him; because he believed in hard work and “Get-R-Done”. He was passionate about all he did, and it showed; the Lord blessed Don with a brilliant mind, memory, strength &amp; stamina.&nbsp;

To name a few of his accomplishments: Veterinarian licensed in 7 states, Surgeon specialized in bull reproductive surgery, Pathologist &amp; Diagnostician excelling in cattle health &amp; developing 9 autogenous cattle vaccines. He was an Entrepreneur &amp; Innovator, developed Performance Cattle Scanning &amp; Cain USA Beef. He was a Visionary &amp; Land Preservationist, developing his irrigated native range cattle ranch, a Cattleman/Rancher with over 50 years of quality cattle genetics &amp; traits in their uniform Hereford, Red Angus, F1 cross cattle herd, and recently added American Wagyu beef as part of Don &amp; Maureen’s All-Natural Beef company providing Premium Beef for the USA &amp; Internationally. Don was truly talented and blessed with many gifts.&nbsp;

First and foremost, Don loved his God and Lord &amp; Savior Jesus Christ, and was baptized and raised in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He continued this relationship and membership throughout his whole life, with a membership at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna, Nebraska.

Second, Donnie met “the love of his life” Maureen (Kennedy) Cain January 9th, 2010, and were joined in holy matrimony July 14th, 2012, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Sonora, California; then it was “Wagons East”, as Donnie said, to begin their married life in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Donnie &amp; Maureen were matched on E-harmony; he a large animal Veterinarian and Pathologist and Maureen a Registered Nurse; and, yes, she loved cows too! In fact, their first date was an emergency cow call in a pasture for a prolapsed uterus. Maureen jumped right in, and the rest was history as his “Helpmate” in all aspects of his life and career. It was a perfect match, a match made in heaven; they completed each other’s sentences and thoughts as if they had been married for 50 years. Donnie said Maureen was his other ½ neuron and his one true love. Maureen was Donnie’s “helpmate” and biggest encourager, and Donnie was the love of her life and vowed to be with him always (Ruth 1:16-17).

Third, Don adored his 2 children Nathan &amp; Jentry Cain, and loved his stepdaughter Heather Sparks as his own; family was very important to him. Donnie made lots of memories with his children and Jentry worked with him at the Vet clinic, and everyone, at different times, helped with the cattle and the ranch.

Besides his love of God, his wife, their children &amp; their cows; Don loved working on his cattle records – the herd’s genetics and knew most all of his cows by their number and Dams &amp; Sires. He loved horses and definitely fishing! He enjoyed music, singing, history, antiques, restoring his &amp; Maureen’s “Castle”, and spending quiet and fun times with his wife creating memories and “sparkles”.

Donnie loved everything Czech, especially his Kolachi, which he helped his “Pearl” (Maureen) master the old family recipe. He loved the accordion and had started learning to play. He loved to dance - Country, Waltzing, and boy could he Polka! Donnie swept Maureen off her feet and won her heart. Almost every time they danced in public, there would inevitably be someone who would come up to them and tell him “We love to watch you two dance”.

Donnie was taken from this earth far too early, but God knew that it was time to join Him in heaven, believing that each of our days were ordained before we were formed in our Mother’s womb (Psalm 139). Little did we know his time would come so soon. He is survived by his wife Maureen (Kennedy) Cain; his children Nathan R. Cain of Lincoln, NE, Jentry D. Cain of Berwyn, NE, Heather R. Sparks of Austin, TX; his father Donald V. Cain Sr. of Burwell, NE; his brother Randall L. Cain of Hebron, NE. He was preceded in death by his mother Jeanne L. (Chaffin) Cain.&nbsp;

Cain, Jr. 64 of Broken Bow, NE departed this physical life July 1, 2024, at his home with his loving wife &amp; helpmate holding his hand.Don was born August 9th, 1959, in Burwell, Nebraska to Jeanne L. (Chaffin) &amp; Donald V. Cain, Sr. Don was a 5th generation Cattleman &amp; Nebraskan and was very proud of that; he had one younger brother Randall “Randy”. He lived in Burwell until he went off to college to become a successful Veterinarian. He was very active as a youth in 4-H showing cattle and horses. His family owned and was active racing quarter horses. Some of Don’s favorite memories were the times he spent at his grandparent’s (Chaffin) ranch where they raised Hereford cattle, and where his love for Herefords and cattle began. Don bought his first cow around age 9 and his first bull when he was 15. In high school he played sports, was on the drama and speech team, and loved to sing; Don excelled in all he did. Like most teenage boys he loved his car, a gold Cougar XR7. In the summers he worked with his Uncle Paul Cain doing carpentry and painting.&nbsp;&nbsp;After high school, he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln; was a Farmhouse fraternity brother and part of the Innocents Society. Dr. Cain graduated with his B.S. in Agricultural Honors, Chemistry &amp; Biology. He then continued his education at Kansas State University and received his Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine, as well as his M.S. in Pathology.During his career, he held USDA National Veterinarian Accreditation in Nebraska, Kentucky, Iowa, Ohio, Montana and licensing in South Dakota and Kansas. He was active in the Nebraska Livestock Emergency Disaster Response System and was an “Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska”.Dr. Cain was an active board member of ICON (Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska), and recently appointed to USDA Cattlemen’s Beef Board. He put 100%+ into everything he did. He wasn’t afraid of hard work or to fight for what was right. He participated several times at the Governor’s Ag Conference, as well as testified in the Nebraska Legislature for the rights of cattlemen, landowners, and taxpayers, where he won several cases at the Nebraska Supreme court.Don was not afraid of hard work and long hours, as that was pretty much his everyday routine; he worked harder and longer than anyone who worked for him; because he believed in hard work and “Get-R-Done”. He was passionate about all he did, and it showed; the Lord blessed Don with a brilliant mind, memory, strength &amp; stamina.&nbsp;To name a few of his accomplishments: Veterinarian licensed in 7 states, Surgeon specialized in bull reproductive surgery, Pathologist &amp; Diagnostician excelling in cattle health &amp; developing 9 autogenous cattle vaccines. Dr. Donald V. Cain, Jr (1959-2024)

Raymond W. Geiger, 89, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. He was born December 7, 1934 in Eustis, Nebraska to Robert and Martha (Kleinknecht) Geiger.

&nbsp;Raymond’s family moved from Eustis to rural Cozad in 1938, where they established themselves for years to come among the many “South Siders” who called the area south of the Platte River home. It is here that Raymond’s love for agriculture began to blossom.

Following his graduation from Cozad High School in 1952, Raymond furthered his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He graduated in May of 1956 with degrees in accounting and business administration. During his time at UNL, Raymond was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He also served in the Army ROTC where he achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Raymond’s work career began in June of 1956 with Bendix Aviation as a traveling internal corporate auditor. Eventually, he was promoted to senior auditor. Raymond enjoyed roughly four years with Bendix and made many memories and lifelong friends along the way. Following his stint at Bendix, Raymond’s career moves included chief accountant with Central Packing Company of Kansas City, MO, traveling auditor with Interstate Finance Company and treasurer of the commercial trucking firm Colorado Cartage Company in Denver, CO. Prior to his time at Colorado Cartage, the foundation was being laid for Raymond to put his growing, but yet untested, business savvy to use.

In the early 1960’s, Raymond was given the opportunity to own and manage a couple of satellite franchise H &amp; R Block tax offices in Roswell and Carlsbad, NM. He lept at the chance and immersed himself in outfitting the office locations and hiring and training staff for tax preparation and office management. Raymond made Roswell his home for a short time and was blessed with the likes of Oma Ruth O’Rear and Frank Shelton who assisted in keeping both locations running smoothly.

Tax season lasted only part of the year and the H &amp; R Block offices were closed during the off-season. While the offices were closed they required only limited management. Raymond occupied those times by helping out with his father Robert’s farm enterprise in Cozad. The old adage “you can take the boy off the farm, but you can never take the farm out of the boy” rang true with ‘ol Ray. While at home in Cozad during the summer and fall of 1964, another gem of an opportunity presented itself. He was offered the opportunity to rent his first farm from Olga Sheldon. He eagerly accepted. In the fall of 1966, he purchased his first two quarters of ground northwest of Elwood, NE. These quarters consisted of 2/3 dryland farm ground and 1/3 pasture. Soon after, two wells were drilled on the dryland farms and irrigation practices were incorporated. Working on a shoestring budget and operating with old equipment pulled from his father’s windbreak, Raymond said in his own words at the time, “Then I was a farmer, alternating between farming and the tax business.” Passion, insight, experience and a calculating mind propelled Raymond into a successful farmer and businessman, a status he enjoyed well into his late 80s. He was once referred to by an admiring family member as “a farmer with a tractor steering wheel in one hand and the Wall Street Journal in the other.”

Raymond’s success in life wasn’t solely measured by a balance sheet. On June 1st, 1968, he married Carolyn Waters Gealy, at which time he became a step-father to her young sons, Steve and Mark Gealy. The couple welcomed a son of their own, Jon Geiger, in late 1969. Raymond served as a role model and inspiration to all three boys and their families to the very end of his life. Carolyn passed away in July, 1988.

On August 25th, 1990, Raymond married Judith Roberts (Monaghan). The couple enjoyed over 33 wonderful years together through which Ray experienced some of the happiest times of his life. It was during these years that Raymond modified his day-to-day involvement with his farm operation to make room for “the good life”. He pursued his passion of sailing. He raced his Santana 23 sailboat in various regattas and crewed various yachts from the mainland US to the Caribbean Islands. In addition to racing his sailboat, Raymond fed his competitive spirit by playing tennis alongside friends in the Cozad and Lexington areas. He was also a member of the Goldenrod Car Club. He took time to capture his parents’ journey to America from Germany, along with his family’s story in his written work “Voyage to the American Dream: The Long and Challenging Journey of Robert and Martha Geiger”. Travel was another of Raymond’s passions. He and Judith visited many destinations both home and abroad, including Germany, Ireland, England, Scotland, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico. Judith was there with Raymond in his final moments as he sailed off into a glorious and peaceful sunset.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Otto and Edwin, a sister Rose Ann Paslay and her husband Michael Paslay, and brother-in-law Pat Monaghan.

Raymond is survived by his wife Judith, son Jon (Julie) Geiger of Cozad, grandson Landry Geiger of Lincoln, brother Robert (Colleen) Geiger, Jr of Thurman, Iowa, sister-in-law Marlene Geiger of Cozad, sister-in-law Trudy Geiger of Cozad, stepson Steve (Kathy) Gealy of Lincoln, stepson Mark Gealy (Diane Wolter) of Fargo, North Dakota, stepdaughter Debra (Ty) Noyes of Lincoln, stepdaughter Lisa (Matt) Hunke of Cozad, stepson J.P. (Jenna) Roberts of Johnson Lake, several nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Services will be held Monday, July 8, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jill Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.

William Darwin Hanlon, a skilled Millwright and Carpenter, passed away on June 27,2024, in Imperial, Nebraska. Born on February 10, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to William and Vivian (Sheeley) Hanlon, William's journey was one of dedication and craftsmanship.

William grew up and attended school in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High in Sioux Falls.&nbsp;

He proudly served in the Navy and received an Honorable Medical Discharge during his time of service. Apart from his military service, William's talents and passion for woodworking shone through in his career as a Millwright and Carpenter, where he left a lasting impact with his meticulous work.

Outside of work, William found joy in creating birdhouses and honing his woodworking skills. His love for these hobbies showcased his creativity and attention to detail. William also enjoyed being a member of the Free Mason MO, Moose Lodge and American Legion organizations.

William will be dearly missed by his surviving family and friends including his sons, James Hanlon, Wade Hanlon, daughter Sally Miles, ex-wife Carol Hanlon, brother, Dave Hanlon (Pat Borovsaky) and girlfriend, Joyce Groves; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

William was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gwen Connley and sister-in-law, Heddy Hanlon.
