Jim F. Porter age 82 of Broken Bow passed away on July 23, 2024 at the Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow with Pastor Steve Collins officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Jimmy Franklin Porter was born on January 10, 1942, at Arnold, NE to George and Ruby (Swisher) Porter. Jim grew up in Arnold, then moved to the family farm southeast of Arnold. Jim attended school in Arnold and graduated from Arnold High School. Jim’s family were faithful members of the Nazarene Church in Arnold. A story Jim liked to tell about his growing up, they had a dog that was out fixing fence with them one day. His father was digging a posthole and the dog started barking and carrying on. The dog was barking at a rattlesnake that was coiled up and ready to strike his father George.&nbsp;

After graduating from high school, Jim went to work on ranches in the Sandhills of Nebraska.&nbsp;

Jim was married to Roma Giddings on July 3, 1964. They made their home in Broken Bow. Jim worked at Becton-Dickinson in Broken Bow and Monroe’s in Cozad. He later took a job at the Custer School in Broken Bow as the school custodian. Here he was known as “Jiminy Cricket”. He enjoyed the staff, the teachers, and the students. In 2008 Jim had to have valve replacement surgery. Jim retired shortly after that.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vivian Ditch, three brothers Russell Porter, Alfred Porter, and Oscar Porter, and four infant siblings.

Jim is survived by his wife Roma of Broken Bow, daughter Donna Amartey of Broken Bow, son Delbert Porter of Broken Bow, three grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Jo (Larry) Hickenbottom, brother Sherman (Lou) Porter of Broken Bow, and many nieces and nephews.

Neil Mitchell Bokoskie, born on August 20, 1967, passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack on July 23, 2024 in Cheyenne, WY.&nbsp;

Growing up, Neil attended a one-classroom elementary school (Sioux Lookout), later attending Maxwell Public School throughout middle school, and eventually going on to North Platte High School to finish out his secondary education. He graduated class of 1985. While in high school, Neil excelled in the rodeo arena as a bull rider. He won consecutive NHSRA championships two years in a row—1983 and 1984. After graduating, he went on to ride bulls for Fort Scott Community College on a rodeo scholarship, later making his way to Oklahoma State. He had also joined the PRCA and was in the running for rookie of the year. Unfortunately, his riding career was cut short by a shoulder injury.

Neil was a passionate and hardworking man, dedicating over 30 years of his life to his career with Union Pacific maintenance of way—a testament of his commitment to providing for his loved ones. Some of Neil’s proudest accomplishments were bringing his daughters into this world alongside his wife Julie. He appreciated time spent with family, and found happiness in seeing his children grow and succeed.&nbsp;

Neil’s love for the outdoors was unparalleled. He loved hunting, fishing, kayaking, rafting, camping, hiking, and biking. Neil was an adventurer at heart, his outdoor hobbies bringing him immense joy and peace. He could also often be found on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on an evening cruise.&nbsp;

He will be deeply missed by his surviving family: wife, Julie of North Platte; daughters, Kelsey, Shelby, Shaelen, Shanelle; step-sons, Wacey Barrett, Wyatt Barrett, Taylor (Katie) Barrett; grandson, Jayce Daniels; parents Kevin (Elaine) Bokoskie of Valentine; step-father, Patrick Martin of Bryan, TX; sisters, Shelli (Randy) Wingett of Omaha, Lori Rosendahl of Magna, UT; nephew, Brandon Wingett of Omaha; numerous other family and friends.

Neil was preceded in death by biological father, Don Wondercheck; mother, Janice Martin.

Neil’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.

Neil M Bokoskie (1967-2024)

Dorothy Rachel Bricker, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 26, 1935, in Paxton, Nebraska to Wilhelm and Olinda (Heinrich) Langmacher. She attended Paxton Public Schools and graduated from Paxton High School with the class of 1953. She transitioned to Nebraska State Teacher's College at Kearney where she earned her degree in teaching. Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Vance Bricker on October 9, 1955, at the Lutheran Church in Paxton, Nebraska. Six children were blessed to this union: Vance, Alan, Bruce, Laurie, Shelly and Kevin.

Dorothy dedicated many years teaching pre-school children in Ogallala and Lexington. She worked in the Lexington Public Schools as well, working for the special education department and the library. She retired from Lexington Public Schools once she turned 62. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church. &nbsp;She was known to be a meticulous seamstress, with her specialty being dresses and jackets. Dorothy and Vance spent twenty-two years wintering in Arizona where they made many lifelong friends and enjoyed dancing as well as creating beautiful jewelry out of fixed glass. She enjoyed spending her afternoons outdoors, doing some yard work or maintaining her garden. She also enjoyed baking her favorite cinnamon rolls for her kids and canning garden staples.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish her legacy are her children, Vance Ryan Bricker of Lexington, Alan (Theress) Bricker of Kearney, Bruce (Betty) Bricker of Holdrege, Laurie (Steve) Hamit of Greeley, Colorado, Shelly (Jack) Pietenpol of Lincoln and Kevin (Anita) Bricker of Ashland; grandchildren, Amber Herrington, Kelli Riley, Aspen Workman, Kraig Hamit, Kyle Hamit, Adam Neil, Devin Rausch, Halie Bricker, Chelsie Stowe-Rains, Eli Bricker, Gretchen Bricker, and Sophie Bricker; great-grandchildren, Lane, Lawson, Ledger, Carter, Austin, Lucas, Lainey, Bricker, Cavanaugh, Cora, Ellie and one on the way; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.&nbsp;

Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Bricker, her brother, Don Langmacher and grandson, Adam Neil.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor John Strackbein, officiating. Dorothy Rachel Bricker (1935-2024)

Wanda Jean Evans passed away on July 23, 2024, in McCook, NE at the age of 90.&nbsp;

Jean was born on a farm Northeast of McCook, NE to parents Loyd and Daisy L. (Younger) Blake on September 14, 1933. She graduated from McCook High School in 1951. Jean married Duane M. “Pete” Evans in Kingsland, GA, while he was in the Navy, on October 27, 1951. Together they had three children: Linda, Steve and Pam.&nbsp;

The couple returned to McCook in 1954 and started their own trucking business. Jean drove semi along with Pete for 20 years. Following the sale of the business she went to work for the next 20 and a half years at the Red Willow County Clerk’s Office. Following retirement, she worked part time for the Red Willow County Treasurers Office.&nbsp;

Jean loved to take her chance in gambling with many trips to Blackhawk with friends and playing bingo. She was a member of the Memorial Methodist Church. Jean will be remembered most for being a sports fan and an avid Husker and Bison fan. Before her eyesight diminished, she quilted and crocheted.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Dallas (LaVern) Blake and Marvin Blake; two sisters, Roberta (Burt) Piper and Darlene (Harold) Wagner; and son-in-law, Rodney Koetter.

Those left to celebrate Jean’s life are her children, Linda (Steve) Cole of Curtis, NE, Steve (Christi) Evans of McCook, NE, and Pam (Tammy Merat) Miner of McCook, NE; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Wanda Jean Evans (1933-2024)

Charles “Charlie” B. Schluckebier, 78, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Imperial, NE. He was born on August 15, 1945, in McCook, NE, to Paul D and Rosalie B. (Baxter) Schluckebier. Charlie attended high school in Jackson, MI, graduating with the class of 1964.

On April 27, 1984, Charlie married Evelyn M. Lines in Atwood, KS. They shared 33 happy years together before Evelyn’s passing in 2017. From their union, they were blessed with two children: Dan and Donna. Charlie also had a son, Paul, from a previous marriage.

Charlie enjoyed traveling from Michigan to Nebraska to visit and help on the McClatchy Family Farm. Charlie had a diverse career, as a welder for many years at Miller Manufacturing in Stratton, NE, Shroeder Cattle Company, was as a hired hand for Bob and Alta Keating and later served as a ditch rider for the H&amp;RW Irrigation District until he retired.

Charlie's interests and hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit. He enjoyed catching snakes, shooting prairie dogs, tinkering with old cars, and attending gun shows as an avid gun collector. He was a member of the Palisade Methodist Church, and the Palisade Masonic Lodge. Charlie supported his family's events and was known for helping Evelyn with church activities, such as delivering the church bulletin or food to the housebound. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the swing outside the ditch house, watching the various wildlife.

Charlie will be remembered by many for his adventurous spirit, warm generosity, and his ability to bring a smile to everyone he met.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Schluckebier; son, Paul Schluckebier; daughter, Donna Whitney.

Those left to celebrate Charlie’s life include his son, Dan (Desi) Schluckebier of Hays, KS; son-in-law and granddaughter, Shane and Evelyn Whitney of Scottsbluff, NE; brothers, Rich (Sharon) Schluckebier of Palisade, NE, and Ken Schluckebier of Jackson, MI; and numerous friends and extended family.

Helen E. Widdifield, 98, of Lewellen, NE, formerly of Colorado, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in North Platte. Helen&nbsp;was born December 30, 1925, to Andrew and Elizabeth (Wiesner) Schaadt, at Akron, Ohio. Helen spent most of her life in Colorado and was blessed with 4 sons. Helen loved to travel and volunteer her time. She frequently visited women's prisons, helping them to cope and move forward. Helen always had a servant's heart and passion for being a guiding light to others in a time of need or struggle.

Helen was also very active in her church, wherever that may have been, she was an integral and contributing member of the congregation. She spent many hours and days volunteering her time at the Salvation Army as well, further demonstrating her desire to do her part in helping the less fortunate, not to mention the frigid cold days where Helen could be found ringing the donation bell, a dedicated advocate for those who could benefit from these donations.

Vivacious, good willed, and welcoming are all words that can be used to describe Helen. She opened her home and heart to many students and folks who were in the process of immigrating the the U.S. from Russia, and even China. She had a strong will and was active throughout her 80's, notably making a trip from Flagstaff, AZ to Denver, CO, completely on her own. Helen will be remembered for being spontaneous, kind-hearted, modest and humble.

Left to cherish her memory are sons Eric (Diana) Hartsough of Colorado and Rex (Mary Ann) Hartsough of Nebraska, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Helen Elizabeth Widdifield (1925-2024)

On Monday, July 22, 2024, Lloyd Eugene Marquardt, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in Holyoke, CO, at the age of 91.

Lloyd grew up in Hastings, NE, graduating from Hastings High School in 1950. After graduating, he found himself working at the Carter Hotel, where he met his wife of 71 years. Lloyd joined the Air Force on May 7, 1952. While on leave, November 1, 1952, he married the love of his life, Joan Joyce Houck, at her parents' home in Hastings, NE. After four years of service, he was discharged on May 6, 1956. From May 7, 1956, to May 6, 1960, he was a part of the Air Force Reserves.

Lloyd was a member of the Venango Community Church, Rocky Mountain Society of Aviculture, and Elks Lodge (in Ft. Collins).

During his lifetime, Lloyd called three locations home: Hastings, NE, where he grew up as a kid; Wellington, CO, where he raised his kids and lived for 44 years; and Venango, NE, where he retired and lived for 22 years.

Passing before Lloyd were his parents, James "Frank" Marquardt and Myrtle Goldie (Smith) Marquardt, five sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Marquardt; his children Cindy Summers, Gloria Zamparelli, James and Debbie Marquardt, and Dennis Marquardt; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was also honored to be the foster parent to 4 teenagers, John, Gary, Becky Summers, and David Clarke.

A memorial has been established in Lloyds's memory for later designation.

Lloyd Eugene Marquardt (1933-2024)

On July 22, 2024, Ali Michelle Crow, loved and cherished daughter, sister, cousin, and friend, left this world at her home in North Platte, at 20 years old. &nbsp;The baby of the family and only girl, she was welcomed into the world by Michael Crow and Mindy Crow on February 6, 2004, in North Platte.&nbsp;

At a young age, Ali found a passion for the sport of gymnastics. &nbsp;Her dedication throughout her childhood took her all over the country to compete and she was even invited to train with a competitive team at the US gymnastics facility. &nbsp;After graduating from North Platte High School with the class of 2022, Ali began working at The House Bar, an environment that her outgoing and spicy personality thrived in. &nbsp;Her colleagues quickly became her family and she possessed an intense amount of love for them and all who she crossed paths with. &nbsp;Ali was the queen of making her dad uncomfortable, always telling him the things he wanted to know and the things he didn’t want to know. &nbsp;She was described as the “Beth Dutton” in their relationship. &nbsp;Regardless of her straightforward personality, Ali was gentle and loyal as well. &nbsp;Every disagreement ended with an “I love you” and she was thought to be a genuine and deeply loving friend. &nbsp;Said with confidence, if you met Ali, you loved Ali. &nbsp;She possessed a talent for fashion; revamping and selling thrift store clothes being a favorite hobby. &nbsp;She owned more Jordan’s than one could imagine and her makeup and skin care collection filled the bathroom counter. &nbsp;Her little black cat, Binx, was her pride and joy.&nbsp;

Those who will continue to carry on her legacy of love are her dad, Mike Crow of North Platte; mom, Mindy Crow of Lincoln; brothers, Tyler Crow of Lincoln, and Jensen Crow of San Antonio; paternal grandparents, Mark and Lorene Crow of Hershey; maternal grandfather, James Johnson of McCook; cousins, Braden, Kailey, and Kassidy; several other family members and a vast amount of friends.

Ali Michelle Crow (2004-2024)

Arthur J. Gardner (AJ), 75, of North Platte, NE, completed his earthly journey on Thursday, July 18, 2024, passing of heart failure at his peaceful ranch and returned home to heaven. Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

AJ was born January 21, 1949 to Roy and Carolyn (Wood) Gardner in Aberdeen, SD where he grew up with his two sisters Jamie and Karen. After high school he attended college in Sioux Falls, SD and moved to Omaha in 1970 to work as a security guard for Union Pacific Railroad where he met the one true love of his life Suzanne C. Davis. They married on February 16, 1974 in Omaha, NE; AJ adopted her two beautiful girls, and together had another. That same year, AJ was promoted to North Platte to work as a Special Agent for the Union Pacific Railroad and also specialized in hazardous materials, remaining in North Platte ever since.

His greatest passion in life was to be a cowboy and work in law enforcement; he succeeded in both to the fullest extent. &nbsp;After retiring from the railroad, AJ enjoyed being home on his ranch where he had raised and bred American Paint and Quarter horses for over 40 years. He spent his life loving animals, raising his part Japanese girls, being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, golfing, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his horses and participating in rodeo events as a team roper, bronco rider, and for a short time entertained as a rodeo clown with his daughter and dearest lady friend and went by the name of Apple Jack. He also loved playing the guitar, singing, dancing, spending time with dear friends, neighbors, international visitors, and thoroughly enjoyed having a good time. His big personality made him known and loved by many and he really lived life abundantly with a sincere heart. He encouraged all of his kids to be hardworking, strong-willed, and independent, which was led by example. &nbsp;A sincere humanitarian, AJ was an active member of the community, always a voice for change, and was one of the founding members who helped facilitate the creation of The Connection Homeless Shelter in North Platte.

AJ is survived by his three daughters, Laurie Gardner (James Taylor IV), grandson Jimmy Taylor V, Jaqie Gardner (Jeff Davis), Nicole (Chris) Kolopanis, sister(s), nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Carolyn Gardner.

Charlotte Kay Kellogg, 78, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away at her home on July 22, 2024, in Elwood.

She was born on September 27, 1945, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Leonard and Minnie Layne. She attended public schools in South Dakota. Kay was united in marriage to Larry Hunt on November 18, 1967, in Lindy, Nebraska until his passing on April 11, 2005. She found love again with Hal Kellogg and the two were united in marriage on April 18, 2009, in La Barge, Wyoming until his passing on May 4, 2020. Kay lived in many different states, but her heart was always in Wyoming. She dedicated many years working for the Eagle's Club and held many titles such as manager, bouncer, and bartender.

Kay was a tough, understanding and strong-willed woman. She firmly believed in being who you are, and that family was everything. She was the glue that kept her family strong, always had a listening ear for those who needed it and her house was known as the comfort spot for her grandchildren when things got rough. Kay could be stern, but she could also sweet and caring. She loved to crack a good joke and always made sure to lighten the mood during hard times. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, camping up in the mountains, dancing, and going on a nice cruise around town while listening to her favorite radio stations. Gardening was a great passion for her and always had the best tomato plants and flowers. If she wasn't outside gardening, then she was inside cleaning; her house was always spotless.

Those left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Theresa Fotheringham of Lexington; her grandchildren, Pam of Lexington, Jon and Jenn of Elwood, Matthew of Cozad, and Ashley of Kearney; 11 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and two sisters, Barb (John) Schneider and Janet (Dennis) Mines of Yankton, South Dakota; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Minnie Layne; husbands, Larry Hunt and Hal Kellogg; and siblings, Robert (Monica) Layne, Betty (Robert) Sherman, Shirley (Charles) Broz, Leonard (Vera) Wayne, and Alice (Everett) Bush.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Charlotte Kay Kellogg (1945-2024)

Jolene Carol LaBore, of Maxwell, NE, formerly of Mullen, NE passed away at her home on July 23, 2024, at the age of 69. Jolene was born to Robert “Bob” Eugene and Betty Joan (Adam) Pearman on May 14, 1955, in North Platte, as the second of three children. &nbsp; &nbsp;

After graduating from Maxwell High School in 1973, Jolene went on to receive her Bachelor of Education from Chadron State College in 1977. Upon this accomplishment, she utilized her degree by teaching elementary students on the Pine Ridge Reservation. In 1980, Jolene met Clarence “Butch” LaBore on a blind date. The couple fell in love and were wed on June 26, 1981, at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte. Jolene had a daughter, Amy (James), from a previous marriage who was around four years old when they met. Throughout their marriage, Jolene and Butch brought three additional children into the world: Trent, Jill, and Lana. The couple resided in Mullen where Jolene spent most of her days running a busy household and caring for her children. Along with being a Mom, she also worked as a substitute teacher and bus driver for the Mullen Public School system, a housekeeper for Sand Hills Golf Club, a seasonal employee at Nebraska National Forest at Halsey, and a CNA at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home. The couple moved to Maxwell in 2016 to be closer to family.&nbsp;

Jolene loved to play the card game, Pitch. With four children who learned to play at a very young age and a husband who was an expert, as well, many a Sunday afternoon in Mullen were spent with a good game of 10-point. Most recently she could be found playing 13-point at the Maxwell Community Center where she would lean into her social and outgoing side. She was a God-fearing and faithful woman. Her children credit her for their spiritual awareness and love of the Lord. She was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Mullen until they moved. She was always punctual, reliable, thoughtful, and kind. Jolene never missed sending a birthday card to her loved ones and she always had time to listen to those who needed it, choosing to see the positives in people. Above all else, she held a special love for God, her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Survivors of Jolene include her husband, Butch of Maxwell; children: Amy (Lloyd) Pemberton of Forest, VA, Trent (Katherine) LaBore of Lakewood, CO, Jill (Robert) Star of Hershey, and Lana (Sean) Farrier of Hershey; her beloved grandkids: Alexander, Wyatt, Vivienne, Quinton, and Brynlee; brother, Doug (Collene) Pearman; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Those that preceded her in death are her parents and sister, Barbara Pearman.

Jolene was born to Robert “Bob” Eugene and Betty Joan (Adam) Pearman on May 14, 1955, in North Platte, as the second of three children. &nbsp; &nbsp;After graduating from Maxwell High School in 1973, Jolene went on to receive her Bachelor of Education from Chadron State College in 1977. Upon this accomplishment, she utilized her degree by teaching elementary students on the Pine Ridge Reservation. In 1980, Jolene met Clarence “Butch” LaBore on a blind date. The couple fell in love and were wed on June 26, 1981, at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte. Jolene had a daughter, Amy (James), from a previous marriage who was around four years old when they met. Throughout their marriage, Jolene and Butch brought three additional children into the world: Trent, Jill, and Lana. Donald D. “Don” Schmidt, 94, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on July 22, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born July 19, 1930 to Charles and Ann Schmidt in Cozad, Nebraska. &nbsp;

Don was raised in Blue Hill, Nebraska. In 1952 he entered the Marines. &nbsp;He served in Korea, where he earned a Purple Heart and the following honors: Unit Korean War Service, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, National Defense United Nations Service Medal. After his discharge in 1954 Don moved to North Platte. &nbsp;He drove a truck most of his life and worked for the State of Nebraska from 1998-2010. &nbsp;Don married Sandra Creech. To this union 4 children were born: Wesley, Rodney, Cynthia and Mark. &nbsp;On May 27, 1963 he married Dorothy Lunkwitz and to this union, 3 children were added: Terry, Joni and Gary. &nbsp;He was a member of the 1st Lutheran Church since 1983. &nbsp;Don enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, playing pool and shuffleboard and enjoyed going gambling in Nevada. &nbsp;He was a member of VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge. &nbsp;Don was an avid Husker fan.

Estela graduated from high school with the class of 1975 in Crystal City, Texas. &nbsp;Then attended college for a year in Fargo, North Dakota before moving to North Platte where she began work for the Social Security Administration. &nbsp;She was united in marriage to Paul Clemmons Jr. in 1981, Amil Horn in 1988, then Pat Irish on March 22, 2007 in Crystal City, Texas. &nbsp;Estella enjoyed traveling and fishing with Pat. &nbsp;She loved her family, especially her grandkids. Putting puzzles together, watching tv, dancing and having a good time were her favorite pastimes. &nbsp;

He was born on December 24, 1928, in Holyrood, Kansas to Alfred Theodore and Frieda Mata (Siemsen) Lueck. He attended Holyrood public schools where he graduated.&nbsp;

Sandra Lee (Stark) Nye, age 81, passed away on April 8, 2024, at her home at Lake McConaughy.&nbsp; She was born August 27, 1942, in Kearney, Nebraska to Glenn and Maryferne Stark.&nbsp; Sandy graduated from Kearney High School in 1960. She received a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Sandy taught elementary vocal music and junior high instrument music courses in the Ogallala public schools. She was an influential teacher and mentor to many community members throughout her career in education.

Sandy was married to Larry Robb Nye of Ogallala, Nebraska on March 29, 1969.&nbsp; They welcomed a son Shane Patrick Nye in October of 1972.&nbsp;

Her love of music was always present.&nbsp; She sang in the Methodist Church choirs and community choirs of both Chadron and Ogallala. Highlights include directing the Ogallala summer band, performing in weddings, and participating with many other vocal groups from around the area.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sandy was a proud Scouting Den Mother with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorer Post.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking and led a group of AAUW ladies in Gourmet cooking.

Larry and Sandy Nye celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this March.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Maryferne Stark and brother Glen Eric Stark.

Sandy is survived by husband Larry Nye, son Shane Nye and his wife Amanda, grandchildren Kinley and Colton Elliott and Sheyden Nye, sister Deborah Day, and family.

Sandra "Sandy" L. (Stark) Nye (1942-2024)

Donald J. Tuma, 90, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at his home.

Don was born on October 16, 1933, in Grand Island, Nebraska to John and Blanche (Naperstek) Tuma. Don attended public schools in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1953. Following high school, Don enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean War, until he was honorably discharged on February 16, 1956.

Following his discharge, Don moved back to Lexington where he started working for the Pfeifer and Newman Funeral Home. He then reunited with the love of his life, Bonnie Scott. They were united in marriage on September 14, 1957, in Lexington and later made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this union: Don Jr., Cathy and Mike. On June 16, 1958, he embarked on a 15-year career with the Nebraska State Patrol. In 1973, his family moved back to Lexington where Don worked for Big Valley Sales, did construction with Gary Shubert and sons before going out on his own, working as a carpenter, doing construction and working on garage doors.

Don was a hardworking man, who loved being productive, whether it be tinkering around the house or doing chores. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Cathy (Max) Reynolds of Lexington and Mike (Evelyn) Tuma of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Matthew, Rachel and Jacob, many great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; his son, Don Jr., and three brothers, Leonard, Jerome and David.

The family has chosen cremation and there will be no services.

Donald James Tuma Sr. (1933-2024)

Mark&nbsp;Gutz was born June 4, 1960, at Schuyler, NE. &nbsp;He died July 14, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following a long struggle with mental illness.&nbsp;

Mark, the son of Albert and Loverna Gutz, grew up with a very God-centered family in Shelby, NE. &nbsp;After graduating from high school, he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad. &nbsp;Mark started in Maintenance of Way then became an Engineer and Hostler in the yards, and when he went out, it was on the southern route to Morel, NE. His job brought him to North Platte in 1988.

On December 31, 1990, Mark married Lisa Blea. They had three children, Carl, Regis and Nicole, and later divorced when the kids were in high school.&nbsp;

Mark regularly attended New Life Church. &nbsp;He enjoyed gardening, fishing, listening to music and traveling. &nbsp;When Mark's young son Carl died in 1990, his life changed as he began suffering from mental illness.

He is survived by his children, Regis Gutz and Nicole Gutz (Billy Wright), and former wife, Lisa Nelsen (Kelly), all of North Platte; siblings, Gregory Gutz (Alice) of Fremont, Timothy Gutz (Dixie) and Lori Borchers (Terry) of Columbus, and Becky "Little Bro" Rose (John) of New Castle, WY; brother-in-law, Matt Thomas of Genoa; and other family.

Along with his son, Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kimberley Thomas; sister-in-law, Pamela Gutz; and a grandchild.

Mark Gutz (1960-2024)

Connie B. Larson, 83, passed away on July 20, 2024 at Gothenburg Health. She was surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.&nbsp;

She was born on June 8, 1941, in Sylva, North Carolina, to William and Evelyn (Bodenstab) Mahaffy. Connie went to school in North Platte until her family moved to Lincoln her junior and senior year, where she graduated from high school in 1959. She also spent a year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. On December 26, 1960 she married Richard Larson in North Platte, NE. They moved to Gothenburg in 1964 where they made their home and raised their family. She worked at Jobman's and Nebraska Salt and Grain during her career.

Connie enjoyed antiquing, spending time with family and friends, attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities, enjoying coffee and lunches with friends, as well as actively participating in volunteer work for the museum, meals on wheels, scouts, and Jaycees. Her church family was very important to her and she was on many committees over the years.&nbsp;

Connie and Dick were named grand marshals of the Harvest Festival Parade in 2019. She will be remembered for her strong spirit and unwavering commitment to both her family and the community.

Connie is survived by her loving husband Richard Leon Larson; children Debbie (Dirk) Rubenthaler, Todd Larson, John Larson; grandchildren Joey Rubenthaler, Kayla Bittner, Cody Larson, Stephanie Bundy, Amanda Jensen, Christopher Larson, Noah Larson; great-grandchildren Kade, Levi, Jack, Aubree Rubenthaler; Brenna and Ella Bittner; Dax Bundy; Evelyn and Charlie Larson; Wesley Jensen. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Julie) Mahaffy; brother-in-law Royce Larson; sister-in-law Barb (Kern) Harshbarger.

She is preceded in death by her parents William and Evelyn Mahaffy, in-laws Leonard and Gladys Larson, great-grandson Levi Rubenthaler; nephew Scott Mahaffy and sister-in-law Lennie Larson.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, July 25, 2024, 4:00 - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Celebration of Life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Gothenburg, NE, Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Grace Gichuru officiating.&nbsp;

Robert Crosby age 81 of Kearney, NE formerly of Merna passed away July 18, 2024, at the Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Kearney, NE.

Robert Alan Crosby was born February 28, 1943, in Norfolk, NE to Lyle and Alice (Eacker) Crosby. Robert grew up on the family farm North of Spalding. Robert attended school at Barlett, graduating from Wheeler Central High School.

July 26, 1967, Robert joined the United States Navy, he was Honorably Discharged November 17, 1969. After the Navy, Robert farmed in the Spalding area for a while before moving to the Merna area, working for Karl Safranek for 17 years, then working for Frank and Lynn Bartak until September of 2001, when Robert had a stroke and retired, working for the Bartak’s part time. In 2019, Robert moved to the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, where he resided until his death.

Robert’s hobbies included driving the back roads and spending time with family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Alice, two brothers Dick Crosby and Jerry Crosby, and a daughter Becky Crosby.

Robert is survived by his children Tina Crosby of Cairo, Brenda Crosby Holtorf of Gladstone, MO, Laura Crosby Goldade of Timberlake, SD, David Crosby of Cairo, and Andy Crosby of Kearney, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert Crosby (1943-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Wayne Alben Cook passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Born on January 27, 1982, in Oberlin, KS, to Merlin A. and Vickie L. (Province) Cook, Wayne spent his early years on a farm south of McCook, where he developed a deep love for animals and participated in 4-H. Wayne attended McCook Public Schools and graduated in 2000, later earning an associate’s degree in construction from Mid-Plains Community College.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Wayne married Jenny L. Lukas on July 24, 2004. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared passions, including hunting, fishing, woodworking, and tool collecting. Wayne had a fulfilling career with the State of Nebraska Department of Roads, where he painted roads and managed snow removal, forming close bonds with his coworkers.

&nbsp; &nbsp; In 2017, Wayne joyfully became an uncle to Emmett James Laya and treasured his role in the lives of his nieces and nephews, visiting family in California when he could and spending time with his cousins' children. In 2016, Wayne and Jenny returned to McCook, where Wayne worked for the City of McCook at the solid waste transfer station. He took great pride in his work and was dedicated to building relationships with “family” (everyone!).

&nbsp; &nbsp; Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Merlin Cook; aunt, Brenda Smith; uncles, Harold Cook and Ed Quaduor; grandparents, Bob and Neva Province, Wade and Grace Cook, Louis Parks, Larry Lukas, and Cathy Hilderbrand; and his beloved dogs, Pebbles, Sophie, Samantha, Addie, and Bailey.
