Martha L. (Edelman) Donason, age 86 of Ogallala, died Monday, July 1, 2024, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, NE.

Martha was born July 9, 1937; in her grandparent’s home in rural Thomas County near Seneca, NE. to Leo F. and Josephine M. (Morey) Edelman.

She attended rural school during the first and second grades, moving to Seneca for third grade through Junior High School. She graduated in 1955 after spending her Senior year at Thomas County High School in Thedford, NE. She then attended Chadron State College to receive her teaching certificate and continued taking classes in the summers and off-campus classes to keep her certificate current. From 1955 she taught for 17 ½ years in Sheridan, Dawes, Cherry, Garden, and Grant Counties. She stopped teaching in 1971.

She married Louis Jack Donason on July 1, 1958, at the Cherry County Courthouse in Valentine, NE. Together they lived on various ranches, where Louis worked and she taught in nearby schools. They leased land and began to fulfill Louis’s dream of ranching for himself. Martha became his main hired man and general helper. She was a cook, calving assistant and always worked in the hayfield. Her least favorite jobs were fencing and windmill repair.

She loved her horses and enjoyed calving and tagging her babies. In summer she always had a garden and canned much of her produce. She enjoyed knitting, and crochet and made clothing for her family. In 1983 she discovered craft shows and began selling her handmade items.

In 2004, they purchased a small acreage in Ogallala, NE, and retired there in 2005. Because of Louis's health was poor, they spent most of their time enjoying their home. They did enjoy attending horse sales and an occasional local roping.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Jean (Scott) Ladely, and son, Shane Donason; six grandchildren, Deri Ladely, Kassie (Fletcher) Hodges, Aron (Nancy) Ladely, Dalton, Colton and Morgan Donason; and six great-grandchildren Khain Ladely and Hunter, Blakely, Abbie and Ella Hodges and Sebastion Donason; her brother's and their wives,) John (Suzanne) and Mark (Dori), and Tom Edelman.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Louis Donason; her parents, Leo and Josephine Edelman, a sister Jill Edelman and brother Sidney (Linda) Edelman.

A private family inurnment will take place in the Lavaca cemetery in Irwin, NE.

Dallas Dean Petersen, 82, of Curtis, Nebraska, died June 30, 2024 in Curtis, NE. Dallas was born August 5, 1941 in Farnam, NE.

He was a Member of the Curtis Methodist Church, the Curtis American Legion and the Curtis Honor Guard. He served on the Curtis Airport Authority, the Curtis Telephone Company Board and the Frontier County Extension Board. He was very active with the 4H program and worked as a leader and as the Livestock Superintendent for the fair for several years. He was instrumental in getting the hometown carnival started in Curtis and participated in the Curtis Easter Pageant for many years. He enjoyed working on the farm, spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, working on his Model A and his grandpa Nutt’s '54 Ford pickup.

Survivors include wife, Joyce Petersen of Curtis, NE; daughter, Tonia Petersen Hlavac of Lincoln, NE; son Bert Petersen and wife Deb of Curtis, NE; grandchildren Samatha Scherbarth and husband Kyle of Curtis, Dallas Petersen and wife Kaetlee of Curtis, Rachel Hlavac of Lincoln, Gavin Hlavac of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Natalie Scherbarth, Kaylee Scherbarth, Henry Scherbarth, Gabe Petersen of Curtis; sister, Joan Werkmeister of North Platte, NE.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents Harry Christian Petersen and Winifred Mae Petersen and his brother Delmar Lee Petersen all of Curtis, NE.

Visitation will be held at Curtis Methodist Church, Curtis, Nebraska; Monday, July 8, 2024, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Richard James Richter passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024 at the age of 71. &nbsp;

He was born August 18, 1952 in Huskerville, NE to Robert and Goldie “Irene” Richter. Because of his dad’s career with the Soil Conservation Service, the family lived in several cities while Richard was growing up, among them Broken Bow and Holdrege NE, Torrington, WY and Sioux Falls, SD. Richard graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1970.

&nbsp;As an adult, Richard had many jobs and just as many hobbies and friends. He owned and operated a successful lawn care business for many years and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed woodworking, listening to music, expanding his comic book and movie collections and traveling. Richard loved American history, particularly the Native Americans, and could tell story after story about battlefields, conflicts and heroes. He loved a good western movie and was a Nebraska Cornhusker football fan through and through. Richard was happiest with a fishing pole in his hand and his beloved father at his side, on a beautiful lake somewhere.

After Bob passed away in 2010, Richard and his mom lived in South Dakota until Irene’s health forced a move closer to family. Irene passed in 2016 and Richard moved to Sutherland, NE and later Gothenburg with family. He never knew a stranger, had the kindest heart and could see the good in everyone. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

&nbsp;Preceding Richard in death are his parents, Bob and Irene, his grandmother Minnie Dowson, and numerous aunts and uncles.

&nbsp;Richard is survived by his sister and a much loved niece, Carsen, of Palmer AK, his uncle Dean Dowson, as well as cousins Pete and Beth Cullan and family of Gothenburg, Eric and Janet Dowson and family of Great Bend KS, Tom and Meriann Emerson of Whitman, Leo and Judy Porter of Oshkosh and Leslie Moorhead of Gering.

Richard Richter (1952-2024)

Ted Lunn, age 77 of Ogallala, NE passed away peacefully at his home and joined his soulmate and best friend, Rita on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Ted was born in 1947 in Kansas City, KS to Ted and June (Garst) Lunn.

He entered the Navy and this led to meeting his beloved wife, Rita. After they wed, Ted left the Navy and moved to Colorado. They welcomed their first child, a daughter Mandie in 1971, and then their son Ty came along in 1973.

Ted worked on various construction sites and even helped build the Chatfield Dam. Ted and his wife then moved and opened their first carpet store in Thornton, CO. After Rita had her first bout of cancer, they wanted a fresh start and moved to Ogallala in 1984. They opened a small carpet store on the west side of town.

They then bought the Arthur Bay C-store and ran that for many years. As the carpet store grew, they moved to a larger location and incorporated a little thrift area called Mr. Bargain. A few years later after he purchased Central Auto and Diesel they moved to a larger location and started a furniture store as well, working alongside his family.

After the loss of his beloved wife in 2003 he sold the carpet and furniture store along with the auto shop. Retirement didn’t sit well with him and he decided to start Central Lock and Key.

In life, he enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and hanging out with his buddies.

In parting from this earth, he left behind his daughter Mandie (Marc) Block of North Platte, NE, and Son Ty (Tania) Lunn of Ogallala, NE; two grandsons Christopher and Benjamin Knudsen of Sandy, Utah.

In his passing a family reunion has been had with Ted and June Lunn, his parents; brothers Jim and Don Lunn, and best of all his beloved wife, Rita.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Ted A. Lunn (1947-2024)

Our dear mother, Marcia Bieber, sadly passed away on June 30, 2024 at the age of 93. She was the wonderful mother of eight children who was always there when we needed her most, offering support, wisdom, humor, and love in abundance&nbsp;

Marcia Roddy was born November 29, 1930, in North Platte, NE, to Pauline Jeffers Roddy and Vincent Roddy. She lived her entire life in North Platte, the town she loved, with the exception of a brief period in Kansas City when her father was transferred for the Union Pacific Railroad, and the last four years when she resided in Lincoln. A 1948 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, she married Carl Edward Bieber in 1951 in St. Patrick’s Church. They were together 42 years until Carl’s death in 1993. All of their children graduated from St. Patrick’s.&nbsp;

Marcia was involved in several of St. Pat’s organizations and was an active member of the D.A.R., Catholic Daughters of America, and Lincoln County Democrats all her adult life. She valued the regular company of a large circle of women friends. After the last child left home, she enjoyed working with her friends at The Shepherds in downtown North Platte for 22 years.&nbsp;

She loved shopping for clothes, eating out, funny greeting cards, and a house full of family. The back door was always unlocked for anyone to stop by and stay overnight.

Marcia was devoted to her mother Pauline Roddy, and visited her daily after she gave up her home in 1998 and moved to Linden Court. She continued to visit residents there until 2019 when she moved to Lincoln to be near most of her children. &nbsp;

She is survived by her eight children: Diane Rawicz in Oakland CA; Mark Bieber (Ronda), Roddy Bieber (Diane), Carol Johnson, Gail Brabec, Steve Bieber (Melisia), all from Lincoln; Cecilia Sanford (Jeff) in Aurora CO, and Karl Bieber (Heather) in Omaha. She loved all her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law for their devotion to their spouses and their children. Marcia enjoyed the company of all 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Her younger sister Frances Bushey lives in Omaha.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her sister Phyllis Haller, also of Omaha.

Marcia Bieber (1930-2024)

Janice Rae (Walton) Beza, 77, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at her home. &nbsp;Janice was born on August 4, 1946 in Sutherland, NE the daughter of Laverne E. and Leona M. (Isaacson) Walton.

Janice graduated from North Platte Senior High School in 1964, with continuing education via night courses at Mid-Plains Community College with an emphasis in business accounting and real estate.

She married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Beza in North Platte on March 7, 1964, and were blessed with the birth of their son Michael in 1970. &nbsp;She was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, LWML Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, and a volunteer for the “Goodfellow Shoe Fund” and North Platte Christian Women’s Club, and a former member of NP Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary.

She spent over 40 years in the workforce, and had the privilege of working at several local businesses before retiring in 2011 from the IRS as a Taxpayer Resolution Representative.

She enjoyed Bible Studies, meeting friends for coffee, cards, board games, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku. &nbsp;She and Dick enjoyed taking dance lessons and dancing. &nbsp;They traveled throughout the U.S. and including overseas to Germany.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Warren “Baldy” Linstrom; sister, Betty Jo Warwick; brother, Jerry Walton; nephew, Jeffrey Walton; her husband’s siblings and family members to include sister-in-law, Karole Bell; great-niece, Wende White, and great-nephew, Bill White.

Janice Rae (Walton) Beza (1946-2024)

&nbsp;Leona Duryea, age 85 of Broken Bow, formerly of Mason City, NE passed away on June 29, 2024, at the Brookestone View Care Home in Broken Bow.&nbsp;

Leona Luise Bradford Duryea, was born February 12, 1939, in McNary, AZ to Andy and Pearl “Richardson” Bradford and was raised in California.

On August 15th, 1958, she married LaVern Albert Duryea in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she worked as a Civil Service contract employee and LaVern was stationed in the Army.

They returned to Nebraska and raised a daughter and 2 sons, owning a small engine mower and welding shop on Green Street, Mason City, and raising gardens and small livestock completed activities on their acreage.

Leona and LaVern also drove the school bus and were members of the Mason City Fire &amp; Rescue squads.

She was a lifelong member of the Ansley Methodist Church.

Leona finished her career as a CNA in Broken Bow for over 30 years in long-term care. Most recently, she has received wonderful care from former co-workers at Brookestone View where great staff provide Angel’s work!

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, husband LaVern; and her two brothers, Wiely and Fred, daughter-in-law Betty Duryea, and numerous in-laws.

&nbsp;She is survived by children, Cynthia (Bryan)Trimble, Matthew (Paula)Duryea, and Andy (Angela) Duryea; 5 grandkids; Katrina, Brooke, Erica, Evah, and Andy Jr.; and lots of great-grandkids.

Dennis Allen, 80, passed away June 28, 2024 in Ogallala with his family at his side.&nbsp;

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Oshkosh. Services will conclude at the funeral home with a gathering of family and friends to follow at the Oshkosh Eagles Club.

Dennis Lee Allen was born in the Oshkosh Hospital on July 4, 1943 to Charles “Murl” and Gladys Alta (Nigh) Allen. He was welcomed home by his parents and older brother Herschell to the family homestead northeast of Oshkosh.&nbsp;

After graduating from Garden County High School in 1961, Dennis moved to California, where he worked at multiple bowling alleys, first as a manual pin setter, then maintenance. It was there that Dennis learned the trade of machining, which he would carry throughout his life. Dennis also became interested in Harley Davidsons and the open road while in California. In 1965, Dennis became a father to Dana Lee, and went on to raise her as a single father for the next decade.&nbsp;

Dennis and Dana returned to Oshkosh and Scottsbluff for a number of years before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the early 70s. It was in Milwaukee that Dennis would meet and marry Betty, combining their families in 1974. Tammy Lee was born to the couple in 1981.

In 1986, Dennis returned to Oshkosh and moved to the homestead Allen Ranch for good. He owned and operated Allen Machine Shop in Oshkosh until 1999. At that time, he joined the Garden County Road Department, where he was the Garden County Road Superintendent until retirement in 2008.&nbsp;

Dennis was known for his love of life and especially his boisterous laugh, which could be recognized in any crowd. Dennis was always creative, and it seemed like he could fix anything. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and restoring several Harleys and classic cars throughout his lifetime. He loved living on the Allen Ranch, knowing that after exploring in his youth, Garden County was his home. Dennis was able to live out the remainder of his life at the ranch he so loved.&nbsp;

Dennis is survived by his wife Betty of Oshkosh; daughters Dana Martinez of Oshkosh and Tammy (Craig) Chamberlin of Kearney; son Mert of North Platte: grandchildren Amanda, Nathan, Jesse, Scott, Trenton, and Madison; 8 great grandchildren; cousin Bill (Lynn) Jameson nephew Pat (Sue) Allen, niece Joanne Allen as well as many other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Herschell, nephew Mike, and son-in-law Ryan.

Delores Leach, 86, of Chappell went to her eternal resting place Friday June 28th 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Delores was born May 6th 1938 to Lillie and Delbert Florom in Leadville, Colorado. She was the first daughter of 9 children. The family later moved to Sacramento, Nebraska where she attended school.

She met the love of her life, Ervin, and married him February 19, 1954. They made their home in Holdrege and had 5 children: Rick, Randy, Rita, Ronda, and Rudy.&nbsp;

In 1966, they moved to Chappell where they purchased the Wayside Café Motel and Conoco station. She became busy being a cook, waitress, dish washer, clerk, and maid.

But the most important aspect of her life was her family.

In 1969, they sold the business and moved to their present home where they lived for 55 years.

Later when the kids were grown, she traveled with Ervin and worked alongside of him for Werner Construction, always returning back to their home in the winter.

Delores is survived by her children, Rita Purcell, Ronda and Mike Ward, and Rudy Leach; daughter in law, Cheri Leach; brother, Danny Florom; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Delores was proceeded in death by her husband Ervin; sons, Rick and Randy; daughter in law, Debbie and son in law, Charlie Purcell.

Rhonda&nbsp;Kramer, age 88, formerly of Wallace, died June 16, 2024, at The Maples at Centennial in North Platte.

Rhonda was born September 12, 1936, to Henry and Hattie (Lair) Van Boening on the family farm 4 miles south of Wallace, Nebraska. She graduated from Wallace Public School in 1953, then attended Bryan Memorial Hospital School in Lincoln where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1957.&nbsp;

Before taking her first job at the Grant Hospital in Grant, Nebraska, she met Arnold Martin Kramer, whom she married November 27, 1957. The couple moved to Kansas City, KS, in 1958 where Rhonda worked at the Veterans Hospital while Arnold attended seminary, and during this time she bore two sons: Jonathan and Michael. &nbsp;From 1961 until 2000, the family lived throughout the northern Great Plains states where they pastored in five American Baptist Churches and three more sons, David, Timothy, and Andrew, were born. Additionally, they served four United Methodist Churches before retiring to Wallace in 2000.

In 2010 her fourth son, Timothy Lee, died an untimely death and she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In 2015 Rhonda moved into full care nursing in Grant. Her third son, David Alan, succumbed to colon cancer in 2019.

When she was 10 years old, her older sister Bonnie Ruth died. &nbsp;Since Rhonda had no other sisters or daughters, almost everywhere she went, she gained friends that seemed to her as sisters or daughters. There was Phyllis and Elva from nursing training, Edna Smith and Pam Evelyth from Union Center, Janet Kocher and Hazel Wyss from Onega, Bev from Big Springs, Katie Shirm and Susie Hodges from Ravenna, Janet Kilgore of Wallace, and Kathy Peterson of Grant. &nbsp;Each of these women became lifelong spiritual sisters.

All her life, Rhonda was a woman of family and faith. &nbsp;She began attending worship services with her family at a country school east of the farm, then in the Wallace United Methodist Church. In the churches where Arnold pastored, Rhonda helped by teaching Sunday school, playing the piano, and leading Bible studies. &nbsp;Rhonda spent her entire life dedicated to others and loved being a mom and a pastor's wife.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold M. Kramer; sons, Jonathan Kramer (Miriam), Michael Kramer and Andrew Kramer (Becky); grandchildren, Nathan Kramer, Laura De Leon Fabian (Kevyn), Kyle Kramer, Henry Kramer, Isaac Kramer, Jenna Kramer and Adam Kramer; great-grandchildren, Leo De Leon Fabian and Thomas De Leon; step grandchildren, Jessi de Quevedo (Juan) &nbsp;and Paola Pineda; and step great-grandchildren, Alejandro Funes, Diego Funes, Elizabeth Quevedo, Zoe Quevedo and Juan Miguel Quevedo.

Christine Marie Bourquin died Wednesday, June 26th at her home in Maywood, NE.

Graduated from Alliance High School in 1982. Moving to Colby, KS Christine was united in marriage Richard Beatson September 1983. They then moved to Lead, South Dakota for a short time where their family grew with the arrival of Mo Kasson. Upon moving from South Dakota to Colorado Christine attended AIMS Community College in Greely Co. Christine would later graduate with a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Nebraska – Kearney. Christine was divorced in 1988, eventually moving to Holdrege, NE where she resided until after Mo graduated high school. In June of 2011 Christine was united in marriage to Kurt Lewien in Kearney, NE. While living in Kearney she worked at Richard Young Hospital where she had a passion for helping clients to better their situation and move on to better things. Changes at Richard Young lead to Christine going back to school to complete the degree started at Aims. Upon graduation from UNK, Christine took a position with the Department of Health and Human Services office in North Platte, NE which led to her moving to Maywood NE. At the time of her passing she was delivering medications for pharmacies, with her base of operations in North Platte, NE.

&nbsp;While driving she loved to listen to audio books to help pass the time. Christine was also an avid “Trekkie” often using the Vulcan phrase “Live long and prosper.” In addition to the Star Trek franchise, she loved anything involving space including writings from Issac Asimov, and The Star Wars movies. If she wasn’t playing a Star Trek game or watching a series, she loved to read, passing on both those loves to Mo. She often seemed to collect cats everywhere she went, usually feeding at least one or two strays in addition to those she adopted. She also loved many dogs throughout her life. Christine was a fun, smart, and spirited woman.

Christine was preceded in death by infant sister Sonya, father-Freddie A Bourquin, grandparents Dorothy and Fred Bourquin, grandparents Mabel and Walter Weckwerth.&nbsp;

Survived by child Mo (Megan) Kasson, mother-Reta Bourquin, brother Tom (Sheryl) Bourquin, niece Sarah Bourquin. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close family and friends.

Christine M. Bourquin (1964-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lee Wayne Ralston, age 76 passed, away on June 27, 2024 peacefully at North Platte Care Center surrounded by family and loved ones.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lee was born to George and Francis (Murray) Ralston on June 21, 1948 in Curtis, Nebraska. He was the third of six children and grew up in Stockville and received his education at Curtis from where he graduated in 1966. After graduating, Lee joined the Nebraska National Guard where he served for 10 years.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lee married Donna in 1968, where they had a daughter. Later, Lee and Donna divorced. Lee then married Deborah (Baumfalk) Ralston in November 1984. After living in McCook, they then moved to North Platte where Lee worked at Farmers Mutual of Nebraska. Lee worked there for 35 years before retiring.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lee and Deb were married for 39 years, before his passing in June.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lee enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, golfing, riding motorcycles, and was an amateur radio operator. After retiring, Lee and Deb traveled south to Arizona during the winter months for many years. They also spent many summers camping at Hart Ranch Resort in South Dakota.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lee is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alice Hinton; and brother, John Ralston.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; He is survived by his wife Deborah; his daughter, Becky (Michael) Beckman of Thompson Falls, MT; step-children, Dennis (Angie) Baumfalk and Jill Richardson of North Platte, NE; five grandchildren: Chelcie Baumfalk of Edmond, OK, Corbin Baumfalk of Stillwater, OK, Jordan Richardson of North Platte, Madison Derr of Kearney, NE, and Makenzie Derr of Kearney; two great-grandchildren, Taylar and Jett of North Platte; he is also survived by his siblings, Connie (Jim) Stark of North Platte. Kenneth (Kathy) Ralston of McCook and Linda Monte of North Platte; brother-in- law, Jack Hinton of Colorado; and sister-in-law, Janie Ralston of Maywood, NE; as well as a host of extended nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Shirley was born June 16, 1938, in Summit, IL, in an apartment over a bakery to Albert and Blanche (McKirdy) Adamcky. She attended St. Bernard's School through the eighth grade, her family moved to Lyons, IL, where she graduated from Morton High School in 1958. Shirley enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958 and was honorably discharged in September 1960. She married her husband of 33 years, Karl E. Blauvelt in 1960; they had five children in their union: Edwin, William Katherine, Leslie, and Karl Jr.&nbsp; The family made their home in Aurora, CO while Karl was still in the United States Air Force. Shirley then moved to Lincoln, NE where she worked for Super Saver Grocery store for 20 years before retiring at 65.&nbsp; Shirley and her family moved to Arthur, NE in 2000, where she enjoyed camping, reading, and gardening.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her husband Karl; Son Karl Jr. and her brothers, Albert, William, and Donald.&nbsp;Shirley is survived by her 2 sons, Edwin and William Blauvelt of Arthur, NE; Daughters Leslie Blauvelt of Arthur, NE, and Katherine Blauvelt of North Carolina; Grandchildren, Kenny, Chris, EJ, Fathe, Felicia, Autumn, and Shawn; 7 Great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Jeffrey LeRoy Houchin, 48, of North Platte, NE passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at his home from ALS Lou Gehrig disease. Jeff was born on February 1, 1976 in North Platte, NE, the son of Dallas P. and Linda (Castor) Houchin.

Jeff graduated from Soroco High School in Oak Creek, CO class of 1994 and attended automotive classes at Mid Plains community college in North Platte.&nbsp; He started painting with his dad and worked as a painter alongside his brothers at Precision Painting.&nbsp; He enjoyed race cars, fishing, and playing pool. He was a member of the Eagles Club, APA, and played in several area pool leagues.&nbsp; Jeff will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Dallas; brother, Jerry; and niece, Ryleigh.

Those left to cherish Jeff’s memory are his fiancée, Amy Minor; mother, Linda; sons, Nate and Austin Houchin; brothers, Terry (Nikki) Houchin of North Platte, and Bud (Gladys) Welch of Alliance; sisters, Tammy (Brian) Betts of CO, and Terri Lynn (Jamie) Jones of North Platte; nieces and nephews, Dallas Houchin, Tony and William Meyers, Cortney (Brandon) Enger, Tyler (Kylee) Enger, and Kayla Houchin; great-nieces and great-nephews, Brantley, Adelyn, Paya, and Kayden.&nbsp; Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Mary Jane Houchin, 97, of Eddyville, Nebraska, passed away on June 24, 2024, at the Callaway District Hospital in Callaway.

She was born on March 22, 1927, to James B. Kile and Amelia C. Kile (Specht). She grew up in Eddyville, Nebraska and graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1945. She married Daniel W. Houchin on November 22, 1948. She devoted her life to raising her children and embracing the farming and ranching lifestyle in the Eddyville area.

Mary Jane is survived by her children, Steven Houchin and Debora (Dennis) McLaughlin; grandchildren, Michael and Jill Houchin, Tricia Houchin and Tyson Christensen, Matthew Houchin and Kristin Houchin, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James B. Kile and Amelia C. Kile and her husband, Daniel Houchin.

A memorial book signing will take place on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at the Eddyville Community Center in Eddyville.

Mary Jane Houchin (1927-2024)

Glenn L Hoppes, Age 82 of Lewellen, NE passed away at his home on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

&nbsp;A family graveside service will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney,

&nbsp;Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Hoppes family.

Glenn was born August 14, 1941 to Marvin and Vera Hoppes in Decatur, Kansas. Glenn was known to work in the oilfield most of his life until he retired and moved to Lake McConaughy and then worked at Ace Hardware in Ogallala NE as a small engine repairman.

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and many other family, friends and companions Gar and Storm.

Survivors include his good friend Ellen Barnes and dog, Scruffy.

Glenn Hoppes (1941-2024)

Willard M Kerk (92 1/2), formerly of Chappell, Nebraska, died Thursday, June 20th on his half birthday, at Good Samaritan Village, Serenity Place in Rapid City, South Dakota.

&nbsp;Date of memorial service and burial are pending and will be published on the funeral home website. Inurnment of ashes will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery north of Lodgepole, Nebraska.

Willard was born on the family farm, southwest of Lodgepole on December 20, 1931, to Victoria (Jenik) and Howard Kerk. He was the second to the last of 8 children to join the family. He grew up and received his education in Lodgepole and graduated in May of 1950.

Willard completed barber school in Omaha, Nebraska and worked as a barber in Kimball, prior to joining the US Navy, serving from 1951 to 1955. He cut the hair of many naval seaman during his four years of service and if you asked him what he did during the Korean Conflict he’d say, “I fought the war of hair from behind my barber chair”. His service ship was the USS Henrico.&nbsp;

Willard met a soda jerk at Finches Drug Store in Lodgepole by the name of Rosalee Finch and married her at the Lodgepole Methodist Church on June 19, 1955. Then Willard and Rosie settled in Sidney, Nebraska where they worked and soon had three children: Lana, Carter and Andy.

In 1961, they moved to Denver, Colorado for 3 years before deciding the big city wasn’t where they wanted to raise their family. They moved to Chappell in 1963 where Willard bought his own barber shop and where he cut hair for the rest of his 66 years as a barber.

Rosie and Willard were married for 68 years, before her passing this past December.&nbsp;

Willard loved this country and the American flag. He was a member of the Chappell VFW, the American Legion, and served as the Deuel County Veteran’s Service Officer during several of those years. He felt a strong responsibility to make sure veterans were properly honored for their service.

Willard also loved to sing. He was a charter member of the Fort Sidney Colonels (Rosie later joined too). If it was your birthday, you may have been blessed with a LOUD rendition of “Happy Birthday” by Willard…..he was still doing that this week!

He was an active member of the Chappell United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He also served 12 years on the Chappell school board and several years on the Boy Scout Council.&nbsp;

He started “jogging” in the 1970’s and continued his daily jogs until the last 4-5 years when his health declined. Willard ran in several fun runs, 5K’s, torch runs and marathons.

Always needing to keep busy, his biggest project in the 1990’s was when he tore down an old farmhouse west of Chappell and salvaged every piece, transported it to their property at Lake McConaughy, then built a two-story cabin with attached garage over the next 3-4 years himself (with Rosie’s expert help).

Willard is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brothers and sisters: Dallas, Pauline, Bernice, John, Barbara, Rosanna and Warren, and his faithful running buddies, Frosty, Pepper and Jazzy.&nbsp;

He is survived by his children Lana (Chris) McCoy of Grand Island NE, Dr. Carter (Colleen) Kerk, of Rapid City SD, Andy (Julie) Kerk of Pewaukee WI, 7 grandchildren Nicholas (Crystal) Frederick, Anthony (Melissa) Frederick, Dr. Josie (Jacob) Davis, Janna (Dr. Tanner) Nelson, Dr. Sam (Claire) Kerk, Jonah (Susie) Kerk, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended cousins and friends.

 </figure>Willard M Kerk (92 1/2), formerly of Chappell, Nebraska, died Thursday, June 20th on his half birthday, at Good Samaritan Village, Serenity Place in Rapid City, South Dakota.&nbsp;Date of memorial service and burial are pending and will be published on the funeral home website. Inurnment of ashes will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery north of Lodgepole, Nebraska.Willard was born on the family farm, southwest of Lodgepole on December 20, 1931, to Victoria (Jenik) and Howard Kerk. He was the second to the last of 8 children to join the family. He grew up and received his education in Lodgepole and graduated in May of 1950.Willard completed barber school in Omaha, Nebraska and worked as a barber in Kimball, prior to joining the US Navy, serving from 1951 to 1955. He cut the hair of many naval seaman during his four years of service and if you asked him what he did during the Korean Conflict he’d say, “I fought the war of hair from behind my barber chair”. His service ship was the USS Henrico.&nbsp;Willard met a soda jerk at Finches Drug Store in Lodgepole by the name of Rosalee Finch and married her at the Lodgepole Methodist Church on June 19, 1955. Then Willard and Rosie settled in Sidney, Nebraska where they worked and soon had three children: Lana, Carter and Andy.In 1961, they moved to Denver, Colorado for 3 years before deciding the big city wasn’t where they wanted to raise their family. They moved to Chappell in 1963 where Willard bought his own barber shop and where he cut hair for the rest of his 66 years as a barber.Rosie and Willard were married for 68 years, before her passing this past December.&nbsp;Willard loved this country and the American flag. He was a member of the Chappell VFW, the American Legion, and served as the Deuel County Veteran’s Service Officer during several of those years. He felt a strong responsibility to make sure veterans were properly honored for their service.Willard also loved to sing. He was a charter member of the Fort Sidney Colonels (Rosie later joined too). Willard Kerk (1931-2024)

Jan Kemp, 68, of North Platte, NE, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at home surrounded by her loved ones.&nbsp;

Jan was born Jan Lynette Pease on July 6, 1955, in North Platte, to James Richard Pease and Charlotte Jean (Freiberg) Pease. She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1973. On February 11, 1982, Jan married Kenneth Duane Kemp. When the kids were growing up, they enjoyed spending their time at the cabin at Mill Isle Boat Club with family and friends. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Sixth Street Food Store, SunMart, Jefferson School, FNBO, and retired from Lincoln County Courthouse DMV in 2018. After retirement, Jan enjoyed spending her days with her grandkids and watching her great-grandson Moxyn.&nbsp;

Jan is survived by her husband, Kenneth Kemp; their 4 kids, DaNeal (Tyler) Hughes, Jake (Rhiannon) Kemp, Karmen Mashburn, and Meghan Kemp; 9 grandchildren, Gage (Jessica) Headley, Connor (Madison) Rankin, Mekennah (Dylan) Petersen, Jaya Busby, Ellie Rankin, Joslyn Yarbrough, Kamden Kemp, Teigan Kemp, and Kambree Kemp; great- grandchild, Moxyn Petersen; her sister, Carroll (Tom) McMurtry; and several nieces, nephews, and other family. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jean Pease.&nbsp;
