It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of our Mother and Grandmother, Florence Naomi Ruth Belle Stout. She died, Sunday, July 14th, 2024, after a fierce struggle with respiratory issues that were exacerbated by flood waters she was trapped in last year when she lost her home and all belongings. She died peacefully and happy in knowing her family was surrounding her as she drew her last breath.

She was born in Pueblo, Colorado on December 18, 1940, and made her home in Stratton, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by our beloved Dad, Deorman, and brother, Robert, her parents Clyde Reynolds (Ruth) and Oma Long (Joe), and her siblings, Wayne Reynolds, and Lucille Bangert.

She is survived by her children, Ruth Marie (Burl), Betty (Dennis), Thomas (Charla), Clyde (JoDee), Patty, Suzi, and Emmett (Kelli), and 42 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, her siblings, Mike (Pat), Debbie (Robert), and Nancy, and her sweet little dog, Schmidt, who survived the flood with her and who, with great energy and enthusiasm, was her constant companion and delight. Her granddaughter Macey and her little Schmidt were constant sources of support and care over the last year of her life as she healed and rebuilt from the flood.

Ruth worked in nursing for over thirty years, primarily in the ER and as a flight nurse providing professional nursing care in an air transport environment. She was a woman of great faith and many contrasts and interests, who loved the Catholic Church, the Rosary, nursing, learning, sewing, quilting, natural healing, and a spirited conversation.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2024, 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., family receiving from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Rosary, 7:00 p.m. at Adam and Swanson’s Funeral home on 421 West 4th Street, North Platte, NE. Family Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, North Platte, NE. Burial immediately following at Paxton Cemetery in Paxton, Nebraska. Refreshments and Ice Cream Social will be provided in the church Fellowship Hall prior to the service.

Florence Naomi "Ruth" Belle Stout (1940-2024)

Monte G. Kiffin, 84 of Redington Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Oxford, Mississippi.

Monte Kiffin, the small town kid from Lexington, Nebraska went on to become one of the most influential defensive coaches in NFL history. Kiffin began his career in 1966, at the University of Nebraska where they won two National Championships during his time there. He quickly became one of the most respected defensive minds in football history, working with numerous teams but, most notably, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; where he was considered the mastermind of the “Tampa Two” defense that helped lead them to their first Super Bowl championship in 2002. &nbsp;He was inducted into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor in 2021 and &nbsp;just&nbsp;last month, he was awarded the Pro Football Hall of Fame Award of Excellence for his outstanding work in the league.

In high school, Kiffin was one of the best athletes in the state, winning Nebraska Athlete of the Year in 1958. &nbsp;

Monte’s legacy transcends statistics and championships; it lives on in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His enthusiasm and passion was contagious, his genuine kindness made everyone feel special and strangers feel like friends. &nbsp;To his family, not only was he the best father and “Pops” he was their hero, mentor, encourager and unconditional supporter. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Robin, his three children Heidi, Lane and Chris (Angela); eight grandchildren, Preston, Landry, Presley, Knox, Grace, Taylor, Christian, Bella, as well as his sister Ann Murphy,&nbsp;nieces and nephews.

Monte G. Kiffin (1940-2024)

Robert Lewellen Hazlitt died July 16, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE, just 5 days short of his 91st birthday. Robert was born in Sidney, NE to Harry E. and Lillian E. (Carlson) Hazlitt. He completed the 8th grade in Sidney and quit school to help his dad on the farm during the Depression. On April 3, 1953, he married Ann Roelle in Peetz, CO and to this union, four sons were born.&nbsp;

Robert went to work in the oil fields on drilling rigs and while working, he took a home study course on TV and radio repair. He repaired TVs and radios for several years. He then went on to pass his master electrician license and did electrical work in the Sidney area. He later got his GED while teaching electrical wiring at Western Nebraska Technical College (WNTC).&nbsp;

Robert enjoyed playing cards, traveling with Ann including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed going to the lake with kids and grandkids and loved his occasional stop at a casino. Bob and Ann traveled to watch kids and grandkids activities. Bob always had a project in his garage. He restored two Ford Falcons.

After Robert retired, they moved to Selden, KS where they lived for approximately 14 years. They later moved to McCook, NE.&nbsp;

Robert is preceded in death by Ann in 2017; his parents; brothers, Donald Hazlitt, Richard Hazlitt, and Rodney Hazlitt; and sisters, Gladys Belford, Bonita Kobbins, and Vicky Maple.

Robert is survived by his sons Lonnie (Andrea) Hazlitt of Lake Jackson, TX, Monte (Mary) Hazlitt of McCook, NE, Harry (Tifinae) Hazlitt of Linden, NC, and Robert L. (Georgette) Hazlitt, Jr. of Grass Valley, CA; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Willa Roelle, Trudy Fuller, and Darlene Hazlitt; brother-in-law, Carl Roelle; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to any charity of choice in Robert’s name.&nbsp;

Robert Hazlitt (1933-2024)

Norma Jean (Shunk) Mayer, 86, of Grant, passed away on July 15, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Norma was born on March 5, 1938, in Shelby, NE, to Lester and Miriam (Kruse) Shunk.

Norma grew up in the Rising City and Columbus, Nebraska area and attended schools in Rising City and Columbus. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1955 and subsequently worked in the Platte County Treasurer's office in Columbus.

In September of 1956, Norma moved to Julesburg, Colorado, where she worked as a legal secretary.

Norma married Royston Mayer of Grant on September 1, 1957, and two children, Mikel and Monica, were born to this union.

Norma worked part-time as a legal secretary. When Mikel and Monica started school, she went to work at the K-8 public school in Grant as the school secretary and bookkeeper. Norma retired after 36 years at the school. She took the school census for 53 years and was a Board member of ESU #16 for 16 years.

Norma was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grant. She was a member of Ladies Aid and served on the Church Council.

Norma loved traveling, going to the sports events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and taking long walks.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Royston, parents, grandparents, two sisters, and long-time friend Vince Lee.

She is survived by her children, Mikel (Donna) Mayer and Monica (Kevin) Poppe all of Grant; grandchildren, Molly Mayer, Drew (Caitlin) Mayer, Brad (Shelby) Mayer, Lauren (Jeremy) Klima, Adrianne Poppe; 6 great-grandchildren: Paisley, Callum, Brynn, Wells Mayer, Elle, Isla Klima; brother, Tom (Julee) Shunk; sister Gaylene Thelen, along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Norma Mayer (1938-2024)

Merlon Keith, “Sam” Bedke was born on May 23, 1939, at his family home in Ravenna Nebraska. He was the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Edna Bedke. Sam loved reminiscing about their farm family and the hard work, shenanigans, and love shared. His family loved hearing about the pet crow, and other special creatures on their farm. Fishing the sand pits in Nebraska was especially enjoyable to Sam. He attended Ravenna High School and told many stories of his high school football career and time with friends. He always kept his connection to Ravenna friends, families, and neighbors.

Sam moved to Omaha at the age of 16 and married Ruth Fletcher. Four daughters were born to this union. After a few years, they moved to Blair where Sam gardened, fished, and spent time with family.

Upon moving to Omaha, at 16, Sam apprenticed at Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist, boilermaker welder. He was employed with Union Pacific for his entire career of 45 years. In 1988 he was transferred to North Platte to finish his career. He was a member of the Boilermaker’s Union.

Sam was known for his pranks and humor among his coworkers, friends, and family. He told many stories of his adventures at work, fishing with friends, and pranks among family and friends. His Facebook followers enjoyed hearing about the book he was writing and his how-to-video posts. Both brought smiles to many.

February 19, 1989, he was united in marriage to Cindy Hancock Wiese. You often heard the two of them referring to each other as “partner “or “buddy” in their conversations. With this union, Sam’s family grew, adding two step-daughters and two step-sons with which to share life and love. Sam and Cindy lived in rural North Platte for 35 years. Together they loved the land and many animals in their 80-acre paradise. Enjoying nature and especially his many dogs, held a special place in Sam’s heart. You didn’t need to ask twice to see Sam’s pictures of his Great Danes. This acreage was welcoming to many family members and friends throughout the years.

Sam had a strong will and was known for overcoming obstacles. He returned to school later in life and earned his GED, he gave up smoking, sugar, and alcohol. Sam’s time with an Anonymous fellowship was a major part of his life and support. He grew through friendships developed there. Many deep friendships were formed. 2024 marked Sam’s 50th year in this fellowship.

Sam was always an advocate of taking care of his body and was faithful with physical exercise until his health failed, which was in his 80’s. One of Sam’s repeated quotes was, “You can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself.” He has been a role model to many in many ways.

Sam is survived by his loving wife Cindy; three daughters, Marlene Bedke, Julie (Monte) Flynn, and Teri (Mark) Otte; one step-son Tim (Stacy) Wiese; two step-daughters, Angie (John) Burrows, and Rebecca (Teak) Colson; Grandsons Heath (Jennifer) Reyzlik, Colin (Miranda) Warrick, and Jared Warrick; Granddaughters Natalie (Justin) Christensen, Jenna (Jan) Hilgendorff, Meredith (John) Rohwer, Morgan (Brandon) Echtenkamp, Maggie (Matt) Thomas, and Amanda (Zach) Edwards; Granddaughters, Maddie Wiese and Cassidy Ratliff; Grandsons Douglas Drake, Lucas Ratliff, Neathen Burrows, Declan Burrows, and Brody Colson; twenty great-grandchildren; one cousin Marge Ruder and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in-law, Harry and Phylis Hancock; two brothers, Ervin and Robert Bedke, four sisters Edith, Lois, Phyllis, and Marlene, and their spouses; daughter Debbie; son-in-law’s, Jim Reyzlik and Rich Warrick; step-son Ted Wiese; and many friends.

Sam entered into eternity on July 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 19th at Bethel Church, North Platte, Nebraska with Pastor Geoff Safford officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon – 8, Thursday July 18th at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home. Family will be receiving friends from 10-11 A.M., Friday July 19th at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home prior to the service.

Merlon "Sam" Keith Bedke (1939-2024)

Donald Anthony Exner passed away July 16. Don was born Jan. 22, 1938 in Edgeley, ND,&nbsp; the third of 11 children born to Bernard and Rose (Schlosser) Exner. As a young child, his family moved to a farm in Jamestown, ND, where he was raised.

Don graduated from St. John’s Academy High School in Jamestown and attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., graduating in 1960.

Don married Sheila Toner in St. Paul, MN, in 1965. He and Sheila raised four children: Mike, Pat, Susie and Brian.

Service to others was core to who he was. Don was on the formation committee of the St. Pat’s Holy Spirit Pantry and on the committee that started the Farmer’s Market. He was Grand Knight of KC’s Council 1211 and was a mentor in the TeamMates Mentoring Program, meeting with the same mentee weekly for 10 years. He and Sheila provided a home for numerous foster children over nearly two decades. He served in the North Dakota, Minnesota, then Iowa National Guards for a total of six years.

Don worked as a store manager for Woolworth, then did construction work, during which he fell off a roof and became disabled. He continued to do as much as he could and maintained a good attitude.

He enjoyed playing cards, puzzling and paint by numbers, but enjoyed nothing more than being a grandfather.

Don is survived by his wife, Sheila; sons Mike (Julie), Patrick (Marilou), Brian; daughter Susie; grandchildren Henry, Dima and Ellie Exner and Sam Van Blaircom; siblings Dalene Happ, Yvonne (Don) Bonderson, Alvin (Tiny), John (Cathy), Rose Ann Fehr, Bernie (Raf) Fornais, Tony (Cheri), Terry (Sharon), Tim (Nancy); and 40 nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by infant son David and angel baby Exner; his parents; and brother Gene.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Adams-Swanson Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. and a funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Donald Anthony Exner (1938-2024)

Today we come together to grieve, to mourn, and to celebrate the life of Susan K. Jones. Susan was born Susan Todd on the 30th of April 1956 to Floyd Walter and Irene (Kragt) Todd in Holland, Michigan. She was the youngest of three sisters, with Bev and Nancy being the older ones.

Susan and her family stayed in Holland throughout her school years. She attended Holland Christian High School where she became prolific at Dutch dancing, known as Klompen. She loved Tulip Time and walking the Mackinac Bridge in the summers.

Susan moved to Alaska in the late '80s.&nbsp; There she did traffic for a local radio station and ended up meeting her husband, James L. Jones. They were married on February 3rd, 1989 in Soldotna, Alaska. Two years to the day, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Allison. Susan gladly stepped into the role of stay-at-home mom.

Susan loved being a mom, she would read to Allison in the hospital constantly, trying to distract her from her numerous medical complications and trying to make her smile. Where Allison went, Susan went.

In 1994, Susan and her family moved to Rodgers, Arkansas where they lived close to family. Then in the beginning of 1998, the family moved to Ogallala. Nebraska. At first, Susan was able to keep being a stay-at-home mom. When things got tight, she started working at Sixth Street grocery store, where she made many friends that would remember her for years to come. From there she became the traffic manager at KOGA radio station in 2001 and worked there for several years before retiring.

Susan was known for being an extremely caring and selfless woman. She was extremely generous and kind-hearted. She wanted the best for people and tried to see the good in everyone, and always had a smile. She was also known for her morbid sense of humor. She loved her family, loved the water, green tree frogs, hedgehogs, and foxes, but most of all, she loved her daughter Allison, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She had a profound faith in the Lord and believed that through Him, all things were possible.

She was the absolute best mom a daughter could ask for, constantly by Allison’s side through every medical procedure and surgery, guiding her through life’s big questions, and encouraging her faith in Jesus.

She is survived by her daughter Allison; sisters Bev Johnson (Bob), Nancy Schaafsma (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Douglas L. Horn, 66, of Curtis, NE, died June 22, 2024 from a motor vehicle accident.&nbsp;

He was born April 28, 1958 in Alma, NE, son of Robert L. and Margaret Sue Horn. Doug attended school in Palisade, NE where he grew up. He went on to get a bachelors degree in English with a minor in film production from the University of Nebraska.&nbsp;

Doug had an ear for music and enjoyed collecting HiFi Audio Equipment. As Doug's interests in the Audio World grew he broke ground with the "Blackbone Studio" This is where you would find Doug doing what Doug loved to do. Listening to music and writing or building and testing some of the finest HiFi equipment out there. Most importantly he loved spending time with his dogs, they were inseparable. Doug was deeply loved and he will be greatly missed.

Doug was preceded in death by wife, Jan Marie Horn, parents, Robert L. and Margaret Sue Horn.

Memorials may be given to the family for later designation.

Charles A. Belden Jr., 82, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died July 13, 2024 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.&nbsp;

He was born March 8, 1942 in Alhambra, CA, son of Charles Sr. and Donella Belden. Chuck spent his early years in Placencia, CA. Following high school, Chuck enlisted in the United States Marines serving his country for four years. Chuck married Kathy Rowan on March 14, 1971.&nbsp;

He was a member of the American Legion for over 30 years. Chuck loved to play pool, would often be found tinkering with old cars or anything else he could get his hands on, he enjoyed collecting antiques, and loved to draw.&nbsp;

Survivors include wife, Kathy Belden of Gothenburg, NE; children, Bruce Lambertus of Gothenburg, NE; Rick Lambertus of Gothenburg, NE; Debbie Cook of Carson City, NV; Lisa Harris of Kingman, AZ; Tami and husband Todd Ekart of Lincoln, NE; James and wife Kristen Belden of Murrieta, CA; Grandchildren Erin Cook, Sean Cook, Tiffany Cook, Lindsay Cook, Jamie Cook, Shayne Larsen, David Harris, Chelsey White, Tyler Harris, Andrew Wilson, Justin Wilson, Kristina Wolf, Alison Ekart, Devynn Belden, Payton Sisler, Landon Sisler, Brooklyn Belden; along with several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.&nbsp;

Charles "Chuck" Belden (1942-2024)

Florice “Flo” Gadway, 86, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Linden Court. Florice was born on August 23, 1937 in Lander, Wyoming, the daughter of James W. and Nina R. (Young) Jolliff. When she was 6 months old, the family moved back to Nebraska.

Flo attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from North Platte High School in 1955. On June 12, 1955 she was united in marriage to Gordon Gadway. Together they lived in several towns following his job with the telephone company. In 1956, Gordon was drafted and following basic training they lived in Long Branch, NJ until he was sent overseas to Korea. Flo moved back to NE with her folks and worked at Montgomery Wards for two years. Following Gordon’s discharge from the service they lived in Sidney, NE. Flo then attended beauty school, took her state boards and received her beauticians license in the state of NE in 1961. She worked as a beautician at the Pawnee Beauty Salon until purchasing the Shangra La Beauty Salon in 1965. In 1982 they moved to Littleton, CO for 4 years, then back to their home at Lake Maloney, and in 2011 into the town of North Platte. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte since 1948. Flo was an active volunteer in the community especially with local nursing homes, American Legion baseball, Telephone Pioneer’s, NE Big Red Football and Volleyball. She was a member and volunteer with the RSVP, Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation, North Platte Community College sports programs, and Golden Games.

Florice was predeceased by her parents, James and Nina; brother in laws, Robert Gadway and Wesley Gadway, and other family.

Those left to cherish Flo’s memory are her husband of 69 years, Gordon; sister, Linda Gadway, nieces, Tracey (Gary) Kracl and family, Vicki (Gary) Wirth and family; brother in laws, Stanley (Marilyn) Gadway, Maynard Gadway; and a nephew, Dean (Kristine) Gadway.

Florice Gadway (1937-2024)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin Lawson was born October 3, 1948 in Cambridge, Nebraska to Frank E. and May E. (Phillips) Lawson. He passed away peacefully Sunday July 14, 2024 at Tri Valley Health System surrounded by loved ones.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He attended Bartley High School, graduating in 1966. He then attended and graduated from McCook Community College. He married Virginia Cochran in 1968 in Denver, Colorado. To this union, two daughters were born: Lynnette Rae and Teresa Jo. They resided in Denver for one year where he was the bookkeeper for The Record Stockman newspaper. In 1970, they moved to Wauneta, Nebraska where he was employed by the Wauneta Co-op. He was a loan officer for the Wauneta Falls Bank before going to work for Frenchman Valley Co-op, where he was a sales rep for the feed department for 35 years.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin was very active in the community. He coached several baseball teams and his daughter’s softball teams. He was a member of the JC’s, served on the city council, Methodist Church Board and Bronco Boosters. He and Virginia spent many years helping with the high school rodeo in Imperial, Nebraska. In 2015, they moved to Champion, Nebraska and in 2022 to Cambridge, Nebraska to be closer to family. He enjoyed golfing, but his fondest memories were the rodeo, particularly team roping. He shared those memories with many close friends and family.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin was a people person and would visit with anyone. He especially enjoyed telling people about his children and grandchildren. He, Virginia, and Teresa traveled many miles following Lynnette’s volleyball games and high school rodeos, and later to their grandchildren’s activities in Colorado.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; daughters, Lynnette Arambula and husband, Hector, and Teresa; grandson, James, and granddaughter, Erika; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jay) Alberts and Deb (Rod) Horst; brother-in-law, Edward (Teri) Cochran; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and May and brother, Dennis.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Trinity Community Church in Cambridge with Pastors Tim Burke and George Probasco providing words of comfort.&nbsp; Burial in the Bartley Cemetery will follow services.

They resided in Denver for one year where he was the bookkeeper for The Record Stockman newspaper. In 1970, they moved to Wauneta, Nebraska where he was employed by the Wauneta Co-op. He was a loan officer for the Wauneta Falls Bank before going to work for Frenchman Valley Co-op, where he was a sales rep for the feed department for 35 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin was very active in the community. He coached several baseball teams and his daughter’s softball teams. He was a member of the JC’s, served on the city council, Methodist Church Board and Bronco Boosters. He and Virginia spent many years helping with the high school rodeo in Imperial, Nebraska. In 2015, they moved to Champion, Nebraska and in 2022 to Cambridge, Nebraska to be closer to family. He enjoyed golfing, but his fondest memories were the rodeo, particularly team roping. He shared those memories with many close friends and family.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin was a people person and would visit with anyone. He especially enjoyed telling people about his children and grandchildren. He, Virginia, and Teresa traveled many miles following Lynnette’s volleyball games and high school rodeos, and later to their grandchildren’s activities in Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Delvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; daughters, Lynnette Arambula and husband, Hector, and Teresa; grandson, James, and granddaughter, Erika; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jay) Alberts and Deb (Rod) Horst; brother-in-law, Edward (Teri) Cochran; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and May and brother, Dennis.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Trinity Community Church in Cambridge with Pastors Tim Burke and George Probasco providing words of comfort.&nbsp; Burial in the Bartley Cemetery will follow services.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the Tri Valley Medical Foundation.&nbsp; Online condolences may be left at lockenour.com.&nbsp; Arrangements have been entrusted to Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.

Delvin Lawson (1948-2024)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale Wayne Wolfe was the second of two sons born to Howard “Roscoe” Wolfe and Avis (Scott) Wolfe.&nbsp; He was born on October 9, 1939 at home northeast of Wilsonville, Nebraska in the same house built by his great-uncle, Asa Wolfe and where his mother had been born.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale attended country school, often carrying his rifle in hopes of shooting a rabbit for the family table on his walk from school.&nbsp; They later transferred to town school.&nbsp; In his high school years, he played football, completed numerous projects in 4-H and was a member of the saddle club.&nbsp; He and his family often assisted in moving cattle on horseback, harvested crops, and bucked bales for neighbors.&nbsp; He also pulled too many pranks to list here.&nbsp; Gale graduated Salutatorian with a black eye in a class of three; the Valedictorian also had a black eye.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale spent his senior summer digging grain bin footings in Minnesota.&nbsp; That fall, his parents dropped him off in Kansas City with six months paid tuition, six months paid YMCA and meals, and $200.&nbsp; Gale worked full time while going to trade school for diesel mechanics, even wrapping Christmas presents at a department store and building ovens in a factory.&nbsp; He saved enough money to buy a car and move out of the YMCA.&nbsp; Gale was very proud to say he never had to ask others for monetary assistance, even when he was down to half a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After trade school, Gale moved to Denver.&nbsp; There he worked for Ringsby, Old Dominion Truck Line, and the University of Denver.&nbsp; He worked on or helped invent digital clocks (the numerals falling forward as the time changed); bar codes; film readers, which evolved into scanners for bar codes, aviation antennae; and was on several Air Force government contracts.&nbsp; His family can’t tell you what he did, but Gale has been to Hawaii nine times, has been on the bridge of a submarine when crash diving, and dined at a ship captain’s personal table.&nbsp; He was given the rank of major but was never in the service.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; It was in Denver that he met Mary Reed Culver from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.&nbsp; They were married on December 27, 1968.&nbsp; Together they decided to move back to Wilsonville.&nbsp; There Gale farmed with his dad and Mary worked as an LPN at the Cambridge Hospital.&nbsp; At one time, they had 200 head of sows, 200 head of cows, and farmed wheat, corn, milo, and alfalfa.&nbsp; Times were tough in the late 1970’s.&nbsp; Because he knew there wasn’t money to see the dentist for a bad tooth, Gale went out to his shop and pulled it himself.&nbsp; It was also during this time that he lost his thumb in a wood cutting accident.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale and Mary had four children: Christine Orpha Wolfe-Yeager, Paul Wayne Wolfe, Rebecca Lynn Lemman-Cochran, and Sarah Grace Brown.&nbsp; Gale and his wife moved to Cambridge in 1980 and eventually bought a place one mile west of Cambridge.&nbsp; Gale often worked in McCook during this time for various companies.&nbsp; He would often put in a full day in McCook, come home and rest while supper was cooking, then go work in his private shop earning money until two or three in the morning then get up at six to go to work again.&nbsp; He did this to support his family.&nbsp; Gale once said that he could build anything you can pay for.&nbsp; His customer once said, if Gale builds it, it will never break.&nbsp; You can’t move it, but it will never break.&nbsp; And if he can’t build it, it couldn’t be built.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale was a born again Christian and was involved in Rotary, the Lions Club where he was a district governor, Walk to Emma, and collected supplies to fill Christmas boxes for operation Christmas Child.&nbsp; He was an active member of the Arapahoe Methodist Church, but also attended church in Elwood.&nbsp; He loved good music, having numerous boxes of records and season tickets at Minden Opera House and others.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale was plagued for many years with COPD, chronic heart fatigue, and emphysema from years of welding and smoking.&nbsp; Gale’s mind was clear and he was able to make all of his own decisions while his body and lungs failed.&nbsp; Gale entered into Heaven at 6:20 PM on July 12, 2024.&nbsp; He joined his father, Roscoe; mother, Avis; brother, Arlen Wolfe; wife, Mary; and daughter, Christine.

Gale W. Wolfe (1939-2024)

John F. Schuchardt, 75, of Bayville, New Jersey died July 12, 2024 after battling dementia for several years.

John was born January 26, 1949 in McCook, Nebraska to LeRoy and Rosemary Schuchardt. He attended Cozad Public Schools graduating in 1967.

Following graduation, John attended St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colorado and Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska. On June 25, 1994, John married Marion Weitner in Bloomfield, New Jersey. They remained in New Jersey until his death.

After attending college, John worked for his father, LeRoy Schuchardt in the carpet/flooring business in Cozad, Nebraska. He then worked for Palma, Inc. as a floor mechanic until he retired. John also served as a volunteer fireman and EMT in Cozad, Nebraska for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Rosemary Schuchardt, nephew Andrew Wallace and many other loved ones.

John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marion; daughter, Michelle (Chris) Pasquinelly of North Platte, Nebraska; Siblings Jim (Roxanne) Schuchardt of Omaha, Nebraska, Joe Schuchardt, and Janelle (Wes) Mathews of Gering, Nebraska. Stepchildren, Stanley (Maria) Zbikowski of Rockway, New Jersey; Tracy (Curt) Dybus of Bayville, New Jersey; Christopher (Jenna) Zbikowski of Levettown, Pennsylvania and numerous grandchildren.

&nbsp;&nbsp; On June 18, 1947, Barbara Kay was born to Vencle and Ellen (Bergan) Janousek on the farm southwest of Trenton, known at that time as the Kelley Farm. She passed from this life on June 30, 2024 at the nursing home in Sutherland.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She began her formal education at District #60, a two room country school, south of Stratton. When the family moved into Trenton in 1956, she continued studying at the Trenton Public Schools.

&nbsp; &nbsp; On May 30, 1968, she married James Kleinschmidt in Atwood, Kansas. Two daughters, Ronda and Tracy, joined this union. They resided in Atwood for a number of years. She loved to cook and share her talent with others. For many years, she was known for her delicious peanut brittle which she made and sold during the holiday season. She also liked the outdoors and raised a bountiful vegetable garden, along with flowers. Being a single woman, she moved out to the Denver area where she met and married Vincent Keyworth on August 3, 1992. After Vince’s death, she moved back to Trenton. On September 2, 2011 she married David Lykins.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Vince and Dave and a sister, Cecilia Brown. Left to mourn her are her daughters, Ronda &nbsp;(Shellie) Janousek of Portland, OR &nbsp;and Tracy (Steve) Sramek of Trenton; grandchildren, Eric Kleinschmidt, Megan Carter, Garret and Kloe Sramek, and Jenevieve Janousek; and two great grandchildren, Stella and Rallo. Myrtle "Mert" Darlene Pollat (1927-2024)

Fred A. Clang, Jr., 92, of North Platte, NE, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 surrounded by his family at home. &nbsp;He was born on March 21, 1932 on a farm near Milburn in Blaine County, Nebraska, the son of Fred A. Clang, Sr. and Ellen (Tyson) Clang. &nbsp;Fred grew up on the farm before the family moved to Anselmo, where he graduated from Anselmo High School in 1950. &nbsp;

He married Laura M. Murry on October 27, 1951 in Broken Bow and to this union five children were born: Marjorie, Shirley, Gary, Debbie, and Shaney. &nbsp;The family lived in Broken Bow, and then moved to North Platte in 1968. &nbsp;Prior to 1953, he worked at the Halsey State Forest, as well as a farm laborer, bricklayer, and apprentice plasterer. &nbsp;From 1953-1968, he worked several jobs in Broken Bow, including Cemetery Sexton, Farm Laborer, Lineman for the Municipal Utilities Company, and Assistant Foreman at Becton-Dickinson &amp; Co. &nbsp;He graduated from Mid-Plains Voc Tech with an associate degree in Refrigeration-Air Conditioning in June 1970. &nbsp;From 1968-1973, he worked for several refrigeration companies in North Platte, before opening his own company, Fred’s Refrigeration, which he ran from 1973-1980. &nbsp;After closing his company, he continued working in refrigeration in North Platte until his retirement in 1994. &nbsp;Fred served his country as a member of the NE Army National Guard, and was a member of the Eagles Club, North Platte Coin Club, and Flatlander Car Club. &nbsp;Fred enjoyed many things from working on clocks and pocket watches to luthiering and playing musical instruments to restoring old vehicles. &nbsp;He built his first violin at the age of 14 and completely restored a 1929 Nash and a 1926 Model T Roadster Pickup, as well as a Cessna airplane, which he used for service calls in his refrigeration business.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ellen Clang; wife of 70 years, Laura May Clang; daughter, Marjorie McConnell; son, Gary Clang, Sr., son in law, Jim Moody; grandson, Eric Small; great-grandson, Michael Turner; brother, Nels Clang; and sister, Wanda Seevers.

He is survived by his daughters, Shirley (Steven) Zlomke of Hastings, Debbie Moody of Ord, Shaney Clang and fiancée Brenda Artz of North Platte; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 1 great-greatgrandchild; brother, Don Clang of CO; sisters, Vera Veith of North Platte, and Clara Connely of York; son-in-law, Anirban Banerjee of Aurora, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ned Cooper officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, July 19th from 1 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.&nbsp;

Clang, Jr., 92, of North Platte, NE, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 surrounded by his family at home. &nbsp;He was born on March 21, 1932 on a farm near Milburn in Blaine County, Nebraska, the son of Fred A. Clang, Sr. and Ellen (Tyson) Clang. &nbsp;Fred grew up on the farm before the family moved to Anselmo, where he graduated from Anselmo High School in 1950. &nbsp;He married Laura M. Fred A. Clang, Jr. (1932-2024)

Spencer Randal Oaks, 19, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Lexington.

He was born on May 18, 2005, in Lexington, Nebraska to Tatum Fagot. He attended Lexington Public Schools and graduated from Lexington Senior High School with the class of 2023. After graduation, Spencer began working at Tyson in the maintenance department with their 1+2 program, so he could attend classes at Central Community College while receiving hands-on training.&nbsp;

Spencer was a big car fanatic. He had purchased a run-down Chevy Cavalier, and with his extensive knowledge of car machinery, was able to get it running and in great condition. He was known to be a reserved kid, but his personality shined when he was with his family and friends, especially with his brothers.

Those left to honor his memory is his mother, Tatum Fagot of Omaha; grandfather, Randal Fagot of Lexington; siblings, Jackson Oaks of Lexington, Ian Oaks of Kearney, and Lily Oaks of Lexington; aunts and uncles, Susan (Tom) Schmitt of Gothenburg, Michael (Teresa) Buckley of East Moline, Illinois, Kelly (Matt) Rich of Kearney, Brooke (David Ruiz) Lloyd of Lexington, and Jared (Keri) Fagot of Lexington, as well as many cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Candace Fagot, and cousin, Katelynn Koubek.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington, Nebraska, with Father Jose Chavez, officiating. The service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

Stuart B McConnell (1941-2024)

Howard Schrader, age 60, of Paxton, NE passed away Thursday, July 11th, 2024 in Lodgepole, NE while working on the job site.

Howard was born on April 9, 1964, in North Platte, NE to Robert Schrader and Jeri Shearman.

Howard Schrader is survived by his mother Jeri Shearman, and two sons Cortney Schrader and Kbob Schrader and his daughter Taren Schrader, and his 8 grandkids who meant the world to him, and his brother Ty Shearman.

Howard is preceded in death by his wife Jenene Schrader, his father Bob Schrader, his sister Arlene Songster, and mother-in-law Lois Lunkwitz.

Howard met his beloved wife, his honey baby doll, Jenene Schrader at Gibson's in North Platte where he was riding a 10-cent horse carousel in 1981. Howard was 17 and Jenene was 15. They got married on January 19, 1983, in North Platte. They had their first son Cortney in 1983, their daughter Taren in 1985, and their youngest son Kbob in 1986. They traveled numerous miles&nbsp;as a family traveling to rodeos. Howard was an electrician for over 40 years.

Howard will always be known to be one of the greatest bull riders. Howard was the 4-time state champion bull rider in Nebraska in 1990, 1993, 1994, and 1998. Howard will forever be remembered&nbsp;by his famous saying “Ride Skinny Man Ride.”

Howard's love for his kids and grandkids was one of a kind. Traveling to rodeos with his son Kbob is something Howard was so proud of, one of his favorite stories was the two of them getting hauled off in an ambulance at the same rodeo. He enjoyed taking his grandkids hunting and&nbsp;fishing. Howard and Jenene traveled to different countries. Howard was inseparable from his wife Jenene. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting. Howard watched every Nebraska football game and you could find him sitting right in front of the television every game. His love for hot food, chili especially, got him the win twice at the hot chili contest in North Platte.

Howard was the nicest guy and couldn’t go anywhere without him talking someone's ear off and calling them Sir or Ma'am. He always started off by saying “To make a long story short” but instead, it was a short story long.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel with the family greeting friends.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10:00 am Central Daylight Time at the Sutherland Rodeo Arena with Pastors Mark Baldwin Of Paxton United Methodist Church and Ira McKillip officiating.

Interment will be in the Paxton Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Sutherland Rodeo Committee.

Howard Schrader (1964-2024)

Pauline Teresa Aden, of North Platte, passed away on March 23, 2024, at Great Plains Health, in the company of her devoted children, at the age of 83. &nbsp;The oldest of five, she was born on July 15, 1940 to Patrick and Lorena (Smith) Leech, Sr. in Maxwell, NE.

Pauline attended school at St. Patrick’s Catholic School, graduating in 1958. &nbsp;She is remembered as always being polished and poised - and in her younger years, traveling in high heels with a hat box in hand. &nbsp;Upon graduating from high school, she went on to attend Barnes Business College in Denver where she received an Associate’s degree in Business. She coupled her degree with meticulous attention to detail in her work as a stenographer, notary public, bookkeeper, and office manager for various businesses in North Platte and Kansas City, including Cohagen Transfer, Schad Wilkinson, and Threshold Realty among others. &nbsp; &nbsp;

In March of 1961, Pauline married Gary Bargell and the couple was blessed with three children: Jon, Dana, and Jennifer. &nbsp;The young family lived in various towns across Kansas and Nebraska before landing in North Platte. &nbsp;After the couple parted ways, Pauline moved to Kansas City in 1985 where she advanced in her career. &nbsp;In 2005 after being away for twenty years, fate brought Pauline and Ron Aden together and she moved back to North Platte where the couple married on September 3, 2005, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. &nbsp;Upon entering into this union, she lovingly welcomed four new stepchildren along with several grandchildren. &nbsp;

Pauline was the proud holder of several titles including, “Tupperware queen” and “word puzzler deluxe”. &nbsp;As the titles imply, she owned every piece of Tupperware invented and loved doing all sorts of puzzles in her spare time. &nbsp;Pauline also enjoyed a good sporting event, especially when the Huskers were involved. She lovingly was the family “master card-sender” and “glitter glue” who kept up with family and friends sending personalized cards she printed to make sure all felt her love and caring. &nbsp;Her recipes were a big part of her life; she was known for her famous wedding mint recipe and volunteered to make them for countless weddings through the years. &nbsp;A woman strong in her Faith, she was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte for many years. &nbsp;Pauline always welcomed friends and family into her home, to share memories and laughter over a cup of coffee or tea. &nbsp;Perhaps her most treasured hobby was spending time with and supporting her grandkids, making memories, and watching them grow. &nbsp;Red Grandma will be sorely missed.
