Gary Lee Smith 82, passed away on October 4, 2021. Gary was born March 18, 1939 in Maxwell, NE. Gary's claim of "Now I've done it all" has been fulfilled after a lifetime of abundant experiences. Immediately after graduating high school, he enlisted in the Marines where he operated tanks. After he proudly served his country, his working career began as a surveyor for Lincoln County. After that he dedicated himself to being a rancher north of Mullen, then drove long haul trucks out of Grand Island, and finally retired after working as a carman for the UP railroad in North Platte. His greatest passion from youth was racing motorcycles and he was still traveling to watch races this summer. Gary made many friends during his life and was known for his enjoyment of dancing, party pranks, working hard, his perfectionism, being a jack-of-all trades, and always stepping up to help others.&nbsp; Gary was married three times, first to Patricia McNitt of Maxwell/Mullen, then to Gale Smith of Grand Island, and last to Carol Foust of North Platte. Gary was dedicated to the Smith Family; his greatest love was for his three daughters; his grandchildren were his pride and joy.&nbsp; Gary was preceded in death by his parents Julius Smith and Violet Diehl Smith, and his brother Jack Florendo. He is survived by his daughters Aprill (JJ) Sherman of Coeur d'Alene Idaho, Fawn Smith of Omaha Nebraska, and Kayte (Edgar) Casillas of Grand Island Nebraska; also 7 grandchildren, Adrian, Isaiah, Jackson, Carter, Gabriella, Myles and Viviana; as well as his siblings Geraldine Terry, Douglas Smith and Mary Adams. She graduated from Sumner High School and later married Harold Cool on December 4, 1949. They settled on the Cool family farm, north of Amherst, where she began her first career as farmwife and mother to their four children. Sept. 12, 1971, Bonnie received her LPN license and started a second career as a nurse. Harold and Bonnie lived in various communities throughout Nebraska and Kansas, before settling in Youngstown, AZ. There, Bonnie started her third career providing healthcare and living services to senior citizens. When Harold and Bonnie retired, they decided to settle in Broken Bow where Bonnie continued to volunteer her time and healthcare knowledge to the Prairie Pioneer Center. Bonnie loved crocheting, music, and spending time with family and friends. Willa Mae Kostman Yeutter was born September 16, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Willa's family was blessed for 2 weeks before she went to her heavenly home in her Mommy and Daddy's arms on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska due to complications during delivery.

Willa Mae came into the world weighing a SPECTACULAR 10 lbs. 10 oz. and 22 inches long. She had a head full of beautiful auburn hair, had her Mommy's nose, her Daddy's lips, and looked so much like her big sisters.

During her time here Willa was loved by all her family and all who knew her. She experienced lots of holding, snuggling, hugs and kisses, holding hands, listening to music and lullabies, and being told "I Love You" an infinite amount of times by Mommy, Daddy, big sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family, all the while gathering quite the collection of stuffed animals.

Willa Mae is deeply loved by her Mommy and Daddy, big sisters, Shelby and Amina, grandmother, Tina Meyer, grandparents, Ann and Ed Yeutter, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who were all excited to meet her and were there to support her in her short time here.

She is greeted in Heaven by her grandfather, William Kostman Sr., a maternal uncle and aunt, lots of loving great grandparents, great Aunts, great uncles, and 3 infant cousins who are all anxiously waiting to snuggle and play with Angel toys with her.

Nancy Mardel Dykes, 66 of Oxford, Nebraska, passed away Thursday September 30, 2021 in Bryan West Memorial in Lincoln Nebraska. &nbsp;Graveside Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday October 7, 2021 at Arthur County Cemetery at Arthur, Nebraska with Pastor Chuck Rager officiating. Nancy was born August 21, 1955 to Robert K and Odeth (Huffman) Dykes at Alliance, Nebraska. She lived her first two years in McPherson County on her Huffman Grandparents ranch.&nbsp; Nancy was baptized at the Eclipse Episcopal Church on the Dismal River on May 30, 1956. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Ogallala, Nebraska.&nbsp;In November 1957 the family moved to Baldy Valley in Arthur County, Nebraska. Nancy attended school in Ogallala, Nebraska at the ESU 16 training school,&nbsp; and graduated in 1973. After graduation she worked at Paks until moving to Holdrege, Nebraska in July 1988.&nbsp; Nancy was affiliated with Mosaic at Holdrege where she worked and made many new friends and had many new experiences. In 2014, Nancy moved to a host home with Sherwin and Betty Sweely of Holdrege and later Nancy and the family moved to Oxford, Nebraska. Nancy loved to visit with people and very much enjoyed going with Betty and Sherwin and family to various activities in the area.&nbsp; &nbsp;Nancy was famous for her collection of movies, pencils, pens, little wrenches and screwdrivers. She very much loved to be in the middle of the action and joining in with giving her opinion. Nancy is survived by her sister Eloise Dykes of Ogallala, her nephew Rob (Tina) Dykes of Lincoln Nebraska, three aunts and numerous cousins and a multitude of friends, special friends Betty &amp; Sherwin Sweeley and their extended family. Marvin John Eide, 74, passed away September 29, 2021, in Omaha, Nebraska at UNMC. Marvin was born on December 4, 1946, to Marvin and Peggy (Winker) Eide in Oldham, South Dakota.&nbsp; Marvin graduated from Oldham High School, then attended Dakota State University, Madison, South Dakota, graduating with his bachelor’s degree.&nbsp; On August 19, 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Bickett.&nbsp; To this union 4 children were born, Travis, Laura, Jay and Carrie.&nbsp; Their family lived in Mitchell, South Dakota before moving to North Platte in 1976 when Marvin went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for a few years.&nbsp; Then Marvin worked for Nebraska Public Power District in Sutherland, Nebraska, retiring after 25 years of service.&nbsp; He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, fishing, camping, hunting, was a Husker fan, and was always on his phone playing games.&nbsp; Marvin was a member of the American Legion and attended the Methodist Church. Marvin John Eide (1946-2021)

Beverly Lane Soller, 89, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 30, 2021 at Gothenburg Health. She was born May 7, 1932 in rural Cozad, NE, daughter of Herman "Dane" and Vivian (Wareham) Nielsen. Bev attended country schools in her earlier years and graduated from Cozad High School. She married Donald Soller on April 13, 1952, and born into this union were two sons, Michael and Patrick. Bev attended the Presbyterian Churches of Cozad and Gothenburg all of her life until the time of her passing. She taught Sunday School for more than fifty years. She was more than a housewife, her family was her greatest joy and she loved them endlessly. Bev could always be found cooking and baking, tending to sick animals around the farm, visiting friends or bringing a homemade treat to a loved one. She quite literally loved everyone she met, and they loved her. Bev was a great crafter, always making brilliant and lovely items from leather, snake skin or other materials. She was an Outdoor Ed Teacher for many years, sharing her craftsmanship with young people. Bev was also an accomplished seamstress who made many pretty things with her sewing abilities. Additionally, she was an American Red Cross Blood Mobile volunteer for more than twenty years. She was born May 7, 1932 in rural Cozad, NE, daughter of Herman "Dane" and Vivian (Wareham) Nielsen. Bev attended country schools in her earlier years and graduated from Cozad High School. She married Donald Soller on April 13, 1952, and born into this union were two sons, Michael and Patrick. Bev attended the Presbyterian Churches of Cozad and Gothenburg all of her life until the time of her passing. She taught Sunday School for more than fifty years. She was more than a housewife, her family was her greatest joy and she loved them endlessly. Bev could always be found cooking and baking, tending to sick animals around the farm, visiting friends or bringing a homemade treat to a loved one. She quite literally loved everyone she met, and they loved her. Bev was a great crafter, always making brilliant and lovely items from leather, snake skin or other materials. She was an Outdoor Ed Teacher for many years, sharing her craftsmanship with young people. Bev was also an accomplished seamstress who made many pretty things with her sewing abilities. Additionally, she was an American Red Cross Blood Mobile volunteer for more than twenty years. An online guest book may be signed at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.govierbrothers.com/">www.govierbrothers.co</a>m &nbsp; &nbsp;Lynn Eldon Estergard passed away at the Callaway District Hospital on September 30, 2021, at the age of 70.&nbsp; Lynn was born in Callaway, Nebraska on October 16, 1950, to Edwin and Daisy (Neth) Estergard.&nbsp; He was the fifth child of six children born to the couple.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm east of Callaway where he enjoyed riding horses, taking care of the farm animals, helping in the fields, and going to grandma’s house on Sundays to play with his cousins.&nbsp; He attended Lodi country school through eighth grade and then attended Callaway High School where he excelled in football and basketball.&nbsp; He graduated from Callaway High School in 1968. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;After high school, Lynn married Beverly Joy Kimball on November 10, 1968.&nbsp; They moved to North Platte, Nebraska where Lynn attended college to study mathematics.&nbsp; Lynn was then employed by Sargent Irrigation and the couple returned to Callaway.&nbsp; Over the next few years, the couple welcomed two daughters, Suzann Lynae in 1971 and Kristin Nichole in 1974.&nbsp; Lynn began working at Progressive Fertilizer until 1977 when the family moved to North Platte while Joy attended nursing school.&nbsp; Lynn managed a tire shop and did custom combining on the weekend until 1979 when they once again returned to their hometown.&nbsp; Lynn began farming for himself and continued to do custom combining for farmers in the area.&nbsp; He eventually purchased a farm in lower Lodi where he lived until his death.&nbsp; Lynn truly loved life on the farm, working with animals and land.&nbsp; He enjoyed mentoring young farmers and felt a handshake was better than a contract.&nbsp; He was proud of the community he grew up in and gave back in his quiet and anonymous way.&nbsp; Over the years, Lynn played on various men’s fast pitch softball teams, served on the Callaway volunteer fire department and was a member of the Callaway Rodeo Association.&nbsp; He was a member of the Callaway United Methodist Church.&nbsp; &nbsp; He was proceeded in death by his parents Edwin and Daisy Estergard and infant sister Debra.&nbsp; He is survived by his daughters Suzann (Steve) Young of Omaha and Kristin (Adam) Bailey of Callaway; six grandchildren Savanna, Ashtin, Easton and Alexia Young and Jocelyn and Addison Bailey.&nbsp; He is also survived by one brother Dale (Shirley) Estergard, three sisters Anita (Marvin) Smith, Carol (Dean) Spangler, and Judy (Allen) Meredith, numerous nieces and nephews, many cousins and long-time special friend Mavis Newton.

Lynn Eldon Estergard (1950-2021)

Hazel Marie Hagler, age 98, of Arnold, passed away on September 29, 2021, at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, Nebraska. She was born April 28, 1923, to Albert and Esther (Russell) Ferguson. Esther passed away when Hazel was only 5 years of age so her dad moved his little family from North Platte to a farmstead south of Berwyn, Nebraska, to an area known as Happy Hollow. She attended a country school close by her home where her teacher, Zelma Staab, would later marry her dad and become her mother. After finishing eighth grade she moved to Stapleton, Nebraska, to live with her grandparents, Zell and Emma Russell, so she could attend high school. She graduated from Baker Rural High School with the class of 1940 holding a normal training certificate allowing her to become a teacher. Following graduation, she married Duane Samuel Harvey, residing in Stapleton for many years. Her time was spent helping with farm chores, planting and raising a large garden every year and canning vegetables and fruits to have on hand for the winter months. She continued her gardening and canning produce long after her children had families of their own. Her lime pickles and apple butter were always favorites of her grandchildren. When her children were still at home, she decided to put her normal training certificate to work and took up teaching. Her first job was a country school in the Callaway area, all the while attending summer school at Kearney State Teachers College in order to get a teaching degree. She taught school in Eddyville, Gothenburg, Stapleton, Madrid, and Arnold. Hazel felt that college was important and encouraged all of her children to pursue higher education, which they all did. Four of them followed in her footsteps and entered the education field, and one went into the health care field.&nbsp; Hazel retired from teaching when she married Willis B. Hagler of Arnold and lived there the remainder of her life. Hazel and Bill traveled around the United States, visited Europe and cruised through the Panama Canal. She was also an avid bowler and bowled for many years. Her love of bowling also allowed her to travel. She and her team would participate in the women's state bowling tournaments in Nebraska, as well as traveling to the women's national bowling tournaments around the country. She continued to bowl until medical problems forced her to quit.&nbsp; She was a member of the Arnold Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and participated in many of the church activities, helping where she could. She enjoyed going to the Bible studies and the fellowship every week at the Riverside apartments. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and took part in many of the activities in the community. She is preceded in death by her mother, Esther Ferguson, parents, Albert and Zelma Ferguson, siblings Helen Bergman, Richard Ferguson, Jim Ferguson, Claris Ferguson, Bonnie Belle Peterson and Marvin Ferguson, sister-in-law Becky Ferguson, brother-in-law Leonard Peterson, daughter-in-law Monica Harvey, and grandsons Zane Harvey and Jeff Schardt. Hazel Hagler (1923-2021)

Lemoine E. “Andy” Anderson, age 94, of McCook, NE passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Community Hospital in McCook. Andy was born June 22, 1926 in Sutton, NE, the youngest of five children born to Wendell and Cornelia (Leitner) Anderson.&nbsp; He graduated from Sutton High School in 1943 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46.&nbsp; Andy furthered his education at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1950.&nbsp; In November of 1949, Andy married Geraldine Frances (Hermann) at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE. Andy and Geri raised four children, living in Lincoln, Fremont, and Columbus.&nbsp; In 1958, they purchased the Ford, Mercury and Lincoln car dealership in McCook, which they managed for 42 years.&nbsp; Andy was also proud of the farming and ranching operation he ran with his son, Mike, north of Culbertson, NE. Andy and Geri were both community minded and enjoyed their involvement in many different organizations.&nbsp; Andy was a Shriner, a Mason, a member of the McCook Rotary Club, board member of McCook National Bank, Past President of Nebraska New Car Dealers Association and along with Geri, a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.&nbsp; The Anderson Center for Radiation Oncology at McCook’s Community Hospital is named in honor of the Anderson Family. &nbsp; Andy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geri Anderson in 2013; infant son, James; son, Michael Anderson; brother, Jerome Anderson; and his three sisters, Elaine Anderson, Beulah (Milan) Polacek and Deloris Anderson. &nbsp; Those left to celebrate his life include his three daughters, Marcia (David) Buresh of Council Bluffs, IA, Jean (Robert) Warner of Anacortes, WA and Julie Anderson and Jimmy McCarty of Elkhorn, NE; four grandchildren, Brandon (Holly) Anderson and children Michael, Tyler and Makayla, all of Omaha, NE, Megan Harr of Omaha, Joseph (Karlie) Harr and son, Hudson, of Gilbert, AZ and Ryan (Taras) Kulynych of Republic, MO; as well as other extended family members and lifelong friends.&nbsp;

 </figure>Lemoine E. “Andy” Anderson, age 94, of McCook, NE passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Community Hospital in McCook. Andy was born June 22, 1926 in Sutton, NE, the youngest of five children born to Wendell and Cornelia (Leitner) Anderson.&nbsp; He graduated from Sutton High School in 1943 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46.&nbsp; Andy furthered his education at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1950.&nbsp; In November of 1949, Andy married Geraldine Frances (Hermann) at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE. Andy and Geri raised four children, living in Lincoln, Fremont, and Columbus.&nbsp; In 1958, they purchased the Ford, Mercury and Lincoln car dealership in McCook, which they managed for 42 years.&nbsp; Andy was also proud of the farming and ranching operation he ran with his son, Mike, north of Culbertson, NE. Andy and Geri were both community minded and enjoyed their involvement in many different organizations.&nbsp; Andy was a Shriner, a Mason, a member of the McCook Rotary Club, board member of McCook National Bank, Past President of Nebraska New Car Dealers Association and along with Geri, a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.&nbsp; The Anderson Center for Radiation Oncology at McCook’s Community Hospital is named in honor of the Anderson Family. &nbsp; Andy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geri Anderson in 2013; infant son, James; son, Michael Anderson; brother, Jerome Anderson; and his three sisters, Elaine Anderson, Beulah (Milan) Polacek and Deloris Anderson. &nbsp; Those left to celebrate his life include his three daughters, Marcia (David) Buresh of Council Bluffs, IA, Jean (Robert) Warner of Anacortes, WA and Julie Anderson and Jimmy McCarty of Elkhorn, NE; four grandchildren, Brandon (Holly) Anderson and children Michael, Tyler and Makayla, all of Omaha, NE, Megan Harr of Omaha, Joseph (Karlie) Harr and son, Hudson, of Gilbert, AZ and Ryan (Taras) Kulynych of Republic, MO; as well as other extended family members and lifelong friends.&nbsp;A private family burial followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Lemoine "Andy" E. Anderson (1926-2021)

&nbsp;Mary Trosper Zimbleman was born on November 1st, 1939, to Jay and Doris (Meisner) Ruppert, in Quick, Neb., and passed September 28th, 2021, at the age of 29 and a half. (She quit counting after that! &nbsp; &nbsp; Mary attended grade school in Quick. When she entered middle school, she stayed in the dorms at Curtis. &nbsp;While there, she worked to help pay her way until she graduated high school. After high school, she worked as a phone operator until she met and married Gary Trosper on June 1, 1958, in Norton, Kansas. To this union three children were born: Greg, Benny and Sharla. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;They made their home in Cambridge as she worked side by side with her husband doing custom farming and MetalCraft irrigation. She was the best hired man he ever had! In addition, she drove a school bus before and after work and enjoyed being an EMT, teaching CPR, coaching softball, and helping with Scouts in her free time. She was known as “Mom”, not just to her own children, but most of the kids in town. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In 1987 she began traveling with Gary while he worked, settling down in both Arizona and Nevada for a time. After Gary’s death, she moved back to Cambridge where she worked as a CMA at Cambridge Manor. &nbsp;She spent much of her free time on the dance floor with friend and sister-in-law Donna Wier. It was there she met her second husband, Marlin Zimbleman. She and Marlin were married April 26th, 1992, in Cambridge, Neb. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;They made their home in Goodland, Kansas and she worked on the farm alongside Marlin. They enjoyed being active with the Red Cross Disaster Team and were prepared to be called on in a moment’s notice for emergencies across the United States, including Hurricane Katrina, and 9/11 at the Pentagon. They also volunteered for The Shriners and enjoyed relaxing at their trailer near Trenton Lake. &nbsp; &nbsp; After Marlin’s death, she moved to McCook where her full-time job and greatest joy became doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending every sports game, musical and field day. She went from all the kids in town calling her “mom” to calling her “grandma”. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Doris; husbands, Gary and Marlin; siblings: Dale Ruppert, John Ruppert, Homer Ruppert, Bob Ruppert, Ann Rowley; and numerous beloved brother and sisters-in-law and other relations. She is survived by children, Greg and Heidi Trosper, Benny and Corina Trosper, Sharla Trosper; grandchildren, Derrick, Britta, Kaden, Shelby, Haley, Zach, Amber, Hunter; and nine great grandchildren with another on the way, as well as many more family members and friends. She was a strong and feisty woman who made a difference in so many lives and will never be forgotten by anyone who was lucky enough to know her.

Mary M. (Trosper) Zimbleman (1939-2021)

Samantha Dawn Oxford was born October 28, 1998, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Chad and Tara Oxford. As a young girl, Samantha grew up in Imperial and attended Chase County Schools, graduating from Chase County High School in 2019. Samantha enjoyed the Nebraska Special Olympics bowling team, crafting her ladybugs and caterpillars, Sunday drives, dancing and listening to music, reading, riding her bike, walks, riding horses and watching drag racing with dad. Samantha earned the Browning-Hilger Award in 2004 from the Nebraska State Fire School. An award for special children named after a former Fire Chief from Imperial. Samantha especially loved spending time with family and friends. She taught us all kindness, unconditional love and always had a hug to give. Samantha passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was 22 years of age. Samantha was preceded in death by her grandmother Linda Oxford and step-grandfather Kevin Jensen. Beatrice Lenore "Beeb" Kampfe, age 102, a lifelong Brule resident, passed away on October 1, 2021, at Sidney Regional Medical Center-Extended Care. She and Chick moved to Sloan's Assisted Living Sidney in 2016 to be closer to family. Beatrice L. "Beeb" Kuskie was born April 22, 1919 on a farm in Perkins County, Nebraska, the second daughter of Bert &amp; Margaret (Dodge) Kuskie. She attended school in Brule, graduating from Brule High School in 1937. She attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO majoring in Elementary Education. On August 15, 1941, she married her "childhood sweetheart" Harold Richard Kampfe, at her family home in Brule. They recently celebrated their 80th Wedding Anniversary. They were blessed with two children, Sharon Marie and Richard Paul. The couple resided in Brule where they raised their children and lived their entire life. Beeb worked in the family-owned general store (Kampfe's Store) for over 20 yrs. doing the gift and dry goods buying. She also helped manage their farm property in Keith &amp; Perkins Co. Beatrice was baptized and confirmed on July 24, 1942 and took an active part in St. John's Lutheran Church for almost 70 years having taught Jr. High Sunday School, Catechism classes, was a long-time choir member, and held several offices in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She enjoyed making banners for the church with her friend Jean Tjaden. Beeb was also a Charter member of the Brule Lioness' Club. She had many interests including music, reading, travel, watching sports, attending Bible Class, working in the yard, tending her flowers, and playing cards with friends. Family was always important to her. Surviving her are her husband of 80 years, Harold "Chick", daughter Sharon (Don) Habkirk of MI, son Richard (LaVon) Kampfe of Sidney, 6 grandchildren Jon (Karyn) Gendreau of MI, Michael (Terri) Gendreau of GA, Bart &amp; Jeff Gendreau both of OH, Diane (Jeff) Hradecky of CO, Paul (LeAnn) Kampfe of Sidney, 10 great-grandchildren, Jordan (Katie), Emerald, Aeniayh, Gianna, Sarina, &amp; Grant Gendreau, Kylee &amp; Kaden Kampfe, Sabrina Richer-Steele &amp; Isaac Steele, &amp; 4 great-great grandchildren, Bailey, Oliver, Marcie and Halo. Also surviving are numerous nieces &amp; nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, siblings and spouses, Evelyn (Wm.) DARREL MARKUSSEN, of Ogallala, passed away September 28, 2021, at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Darrel was born at Sidney, Nebraska, on May 10, 1954, to Junior and Norma J. (Oliverius) Markussen. He attended school in the Sandhills until the 7th grade before eventually graduating from Lodgepole High School with the class of 1972. After graduation, he joined the US Navy and served ten years. Darrel entered the US Navy for a second time on July 17, 1987, and served until July 16, 1991. His total years of service with the Navy was around fourteen years. Following his discharge, Darrel worked for Ogallala Home Health Care for several years before continuing his work in North Platte. Darrel eventually took a job at the grocery store in Julesburg before working at Sunmart in Ogallala until his health would no longer allow it. Darrel enjoyed woodworking, fishing, attending auctions and garage sales, and playing a good game of cards. Darrel was passionate about his family and always cherished the time they spent together. He was also deeply proud to have served in the Navy. Many of the values he carried later into the rest of his life came from his experience serving his country. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his siblings, Dick (Paula) Markussen of Ogallala, and Denise Nelsen of Lodgepole, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Darrel Gene Markussen (1954-2021)

Mary DeLuna-Dailey, 76, of North Platte, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on September 30, 2021, at Heritage Health “Memory Support”, Grand Island, Nebraska, where she has resided for the past 3 years. Mary was born February 25, 1944 to John and Ysabell (Torres) Segura in Morrill, Nebraska, the 9th of 13 children.&nbsp; Mary graduated from Morrill High School in 1962 and attended South Dakota National School of Business where she earned her associates degree.&nbsp; She returned to western Nebraska where she met Henry DeLuna of McGrew, Nebraska and worked at the Scottsbluff Star-Herald.&nbsp; Mary and Henry were married on May 29, 1967 and to this union 2 sons were born, Edward (Tricia) of Panama City, Florida and Anthony (Brooke) of Mission Viejo, California. They had relocated to Marquette, Nebraska, later Omaha, Fremont, Columbus and finally North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; Mary was employed by the North Platte Police Department, being utilized in several departments including as a 911 dispatcher.&nbsp; She continued working for 3 years after the loss of her first husband Henry of 25 years.&nbsp; Mary retired from the North Platte Police Department on February 26, 2010.&nbsp; Even after retirement, Mary continued spoiling the department every Friday with homemade breakfast burritos. &nbsp;She married her long-time friend Edmund Dailey.&nbsp; She joined Edmund, participating in numerous horse shows, joined in the “Single Action Shooting Society”.&nbsp; They traveled different states and enjoyed their trips to Mexico.&nbsp; Edmund and Mary were “Snowbirds” in Arizona for many years.&nbsp; Survivors including her sons, Edward (Tricia) of Panama City, Florida and Anthony (Brooke) of Mission Viejo, California; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cruz Magdaleno, Marcie (Feliipe) Segura of Gering, Nebraska, Anita (Berney) Charo of Denver, Colorado and Carmen Moreno of Grand Island, Nebraska; brothers, Sam (Litta) Segura, Tony (Betty) Segura, Joe Segura all of Kansas City, Kansas. Preceding her in death: parents, John and Ysabell Segura; first husband, Henry DeLuna; 1 year old brother, Jesus; sisters, Gloria and Lydia Segura; brothers, John and Ralph Segura.  </figure>Mary DeLuna-Dailey, 76, of North Platte, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on September 30, 2021, at Heritage Health “Memory Support”, Grand Island, Nebraska, where she has resided for the past 3 years. Mary was born February 25, 1944 to John and Ysabell (Torres) Segura in Morrill, Nebraska, the 9th of 13 children.&nbsp; Mary graduated from Morrill High School in 1962 and attended South Dakota National School of Business where she earned her associates degree.&nbsp; She returned to western Nebraska where she met Henry DeLuna of McGrew, Nebraska and worked at the Scottsbluff Star-Herald.&nbsp; Mary and Henry were married on May 29, 1967 and to this union 2 sons were born, Edward (Tricia) of Panama City, Florida and Anthony (Brooke) of Mission Viejo, California. They had relocated to Marquette, Nebraska, later Omaha, Fremont, Columbus and finally North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; Mary was employed by the North Platte Police Department, being utilized in several departments including as a 911 dispatcher.&nbsp; She continued working for 3 years after the loss of her first husband Henry of 25 years.&nbsp; Mary retired from the North Platte Police Department on February 26, 2010.&nbsp; Even after retirement, Mary continued spoiling the department every Friday with homemade breakfast burritos. &nbsp;She married her long-time friend Edmund Dailey.&nbsp; She joined Edmund, participating in numerous horse shows, joined in the “Single Action Shooting Society”.&nbsp; They traveled different states and enjoyed their trips to Mexico.&nbsp; Edmund and Mary were “Snowbirds” in Arizona for many years.&nbsp; Survivors including her sons, Edward (Tricia) of Panama City, Florida and Anthony (Brooke) of Mission Viejo, California; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cruz Magdaleno, Marcie (Feliipe) Segura of Gering, Nebraska, Anita (Berney) Charo of Denver, Colorado and Carmen Moreno of Grand Island, Nebraska; brothers, Sam (Litta) Segura, Tony (Betty) Segura, Joe Segura all of Kansas City, Kansas. Preceding her in death: parents, John and Ysabell Segura; first husband, Henry DeLuna; 1 year old brother, Jesus; sisters, Gloria and Lydia Segura; brothers, John and Ralph Segura. Nicke&nbsp;Whyte, of North Platte, Nebraska, lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the age of 71. Her life was full of memories that will be treasured by many.&nbsp; There will never be another like Helen 'Nicke' Whyte. She was born May 8, 1950. Her parents, Kenneth and Laura Nickelson, walked out of the hospital in Worland, WY, with a child packed with love, sarcasm, empathy and song (even though sometimes off key).&nbsp; Nicke grew up and married the father of her five children, Casandra, James, Angel, Johnathan and Amber. However, the love of her life, Thomas Whyte, would emerge and marry her on March 31, 1997, while living in Idaho. They settled in North Platte in 1998. Nicke loved working with people. She could make a lifelong friend while returning change. Her constant smile and contagious energy were sought out by many North Platte residence. Her favorite job was being Mom then she was promoted to Grandma and Great-Grandma. Her hobbies included crocheting, puzzles, and bowling. She also enjoyed many computer games and card games. However, her favorite was teaching her family the pastime of singing show tune songs and replying sarcastically to everyday events. Greeting her at the Lord's side include her parents; her twin sisters, Linda Cushing and Lori Cox; brothers-in-law, Butch Cushing and Michael Whyte; and her daughter, Casandra Hedglin. With her unconditional love, Nicke leaves behind her husband; four children, James (Marie) Shafer, Angel (Lisa) Cantu, Johnathan (Nicole) Shafer and Amber Mergele; two sisters, Connie (Keith) Heinrich and Lisa (Pat) McDonald; brother-in-law, Rick Cox; sisters-in-law, Mary Hescock, Midge (Jack) Pollack and Deb (Randy) Jess; as well as 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 21 nieces and nephews, and countless friends and loved ones. He was proud to be from Nebraska. He is our hero and a giant in our eyes. He disciplined us, loved us, and supported us. He was not a man who straddled the fence in any of his dealings. We believe we had the best dad God could have ever given us. He departed this life on September 28th, 2021, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha NE after complications from the China virus. He is survived by the mother of his children, Sally Slingsby, Grayson, KY, his children David (Michelle), Arvada CO, Amy Young, Lawrenceburg, TN, Robert (Dawn), Cantonment, FL, Sheila (Jeremy) Witter, Grayson, KY, grandchildren Elliott (Ashley), Zachary and Kathryn Young, TN, Ansley Slingsby, FL, Gilbert, Amos, Isaac, and Melvin Witter, KY and great granddaughter, Avery Young, TN. She was united in marriage to Donald Hite on May 27, 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple was blessed with three children: Debra, Gary and Vicki. The couple moved around the Dawson County area before making Cozad their home for the last thirty years. Sharon retired from Monroe Auto in Cozad in 2006. She was a “power shopper,” enjoyed family meals and playing games, especially Wheel Of Fortune. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was the time she cherished the most. Sharon is survived by her husband, Don of Cozad, one son, Gary Williams of Kearney, two daughters; Debra (Erin Handgen) Williams of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Vicki Gates of Denver, Colorado, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one brother; Kenneth (Susan) Blodgett of Elbert, Colorado, one sister, Jackie Robirds of Delta, Colorado as well as a sister-in-law Paula Blodgett of Lexington. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Marvin, Jr. and Ronald. Doyle Francis "Frank" Kripal, 83, of Chappell passed away Wednesday morning, September 29, 2021, at the Regional West Garden County Nursing Home with his wife by his side. A rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2021, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chappell.&nbsp; A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am.&nbsp; Father Bryan Ernest and Deacon Dixon Powers will officiate. Services will be streamed live and available to watch after the service on the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Homes Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hbfunerals). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. In the fall of 1961, he enrolled in the college at Scottsbluff and that is where he met his future wife.&nbsp; He often said that he had to thank the East Germans for bringing them together.&nbsp; Noni had been attending school in London and had planned on going to school in Munich, Germany that fall.&nbsp; However, on August 19, 1961, the East Germans began construction of the Berlin Wall.&nbsp; Noni’s father, an officer in the Air Force who had flown with the Allies in the Berlin Airlift in 1949, announced that she would NOT be attending school in Germany that fall.&nbsp; Within days she found herself on a MATS flight headed back stateside to live with her aunt and attend school in Scottsbluff.&nbsp; Although from diverse backgrounds, she a “military brat” who had bounced from base to base, and he who had grown up surrounded by an extended family in Lodgepole, they were surprised to learn that they shared one thing in common—their Catholic faith.&nbsp; They were married December 28, 1963 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Custer, South Dakota. They lived in Chadron, Nebraska while attending college.&nbsp; Upon graduation in 1964, they moved to Lodgepole, and Francis joined his father Anton “Tony” in his business, Kripal Chevrolet Company.&nbsp; In 1966,&nbsp; Chevy approached Tony about moving his franchise to Chappell to take over the Brune Motor franchise there.&nbsp; After the move to Chappell, they added the Buick line to their inventory and established “Kripal Motor Company” Francis and his family moved to Chappell where they have lived for 55 years. Francis was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed helping to co-sponsor to CYO youth group on their spring break ski trips to Snowy Range and Silvercreek.&nbsp; When the Chappell Junior Jaycees organized, he served as the first president. In 1989, Francis was honored to be appointed to the board of trustees on the Buckley Trust.&nbsp; He enjoyed being part of the group that helped bring projects and services to the area communities. Francis was a big fan of Nebraska sports, big band music, purple flowers, Lake Mac, and all things Chevrolet—especially Corvairs!&nbsp; He had many fond memories of his customers and missed the people he encountered during his years in the dealership. Although he faced many challenges these last few years, he was especially thankful for the arrival of Regional West Medical Services here in the Chappell community, the safe return of his grandson, Josh, from Iraq, and the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Estelle. He is survived by his wife Winona (Noni) and three children: daughter, Kim and husband, Tracy Freeseman of Estelline, SD, sons, Paul of Scottsdale, AZ and Mark and wife, Lori of North Platte; 5 grandchildren, Josh Freeseman, Laura Carlson, Raegan Kripal, Olivia Kripal and Dalton Kripal; and one great-granddaughter, Estelle Calson. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Irene Kripal, and one sister, Joan Carita Thompson.

MILDRED KELEMAN, 59, of Grant, NE, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant. Millie was born in Germany to Melvin Earl and Beatrice (Machholz) Jahnke. She attended school in California. As a girl, Millie moved between California and Hawaii, where she lived with her sister, Dee. In 1988, Millie married William Keleman, and their union would be blessed with a son, Geoffrey. Millie had worked at a bakery and at Safeway in the Deli department while in California. Life would take her to Grant in 2001, where she worked at Subway and Dollar General. She also had worked at Denny's and Arby's in Ogallala for a time. Millie was down-to-earth and caring. She had a joyful temperament that was easy to appreciate. Millie loved camping and playing cards, especially Euchre. She always had a special place in her life for animals, particularly her five cats and dog, Penny. A kind and welcoming heart with a humble demeanor, Millie will be missed by those who knew her. Mildred Keleman (1962-2021)

Bill Sullivan, 94, passed away September 28, 2021. He was a lifelong resident of Wallace, Nebraska, until he moved to retirement living in Imperial in 2020. He lived his life in the warm community of a small town, where he took joy in knowing others and being known very well. He was born November 7, 1926, at his grandparents' farm near Elsie, Nebraska, at the beginning of the Great Depression. His parents were Edward F. and Genevieve (Priest) Sullivan. Bill was raised on his parents' farm south of Wallace and attended a one-room schoolhouse until the age of 12, when he started high school in Hayes Center as a weekday boarding student, which was commonly done in the area in those days. He graduated from high school in 1943. During World War II, he completed training as a radar specialist, and was sworn into the Navy on September 2, 1945 - the very day that the war ended. In 1950, he graduated from the Boyle Business School in Omaha and later worked for several Omaha companies. He was a member of Omaha's WOW-TV Chorus, where he met his future wife, Mary Alyce Fenton. They married in 1955 and lived in Omaha until they moved to Wallace in 1958. Bill and Mary Alyce were married for 51 years and raised five children, who will remain forever grateful for the loving home that they made. The foundation of Bill's life was his faith in God, and he built his life on it. He had a special love for scripture, participating in many Bible study courses over the years. He encouraged his children's growth in faith by caring for his wife and children with great love, and by explaining the faith with examples found in nature and everyday experiences. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace and was very active in parish life for more than 60 years, serving as a council member, catechism teacher and a choir director for many years. His faith also gave him reverence for the land; guidance as a father, and strength for hard work, the cattle market and Nebraska weather. Bill took great pride in being a cattleman; he was an avid student of current research, quickly adopting new methods for rangeland and cattle management and enjoyed documenting the positive results. He knew and loved every inch of his ranch. Music was also a major theme of Bill's life; he and his wife both loved music and sang in the community's Christmas cantatas. They also sang for weddings, anniversaries and funerals in the area for decades. True to his Irish blood, Bill also prized a fine joke, a great story and a well-turned phrase. As part of an area coalition, Bill worked for years to secure the present location of U.S. Hwy 25 - a critical improvement to the rural region's transportation needs. He made presentations to the State Dept. of Transportation, commercial associations and state legislators. The coalition's efforts met with success, and at long last, U.S. Hwy 25 (connecting I-80 and I-25 in Kansas) was completed in 1977. Bill had a network of friends all over the U.S.; each received a Christmas card and letter from him every year. Without fail, the letter always included a section called "The Farm Report," identified by many as their favorite part. Photography was a lifelong hobby of Bill's that began with a wedding day gift - a camera from his wife. He went on to become a photographer of considerable skill, creating thousands of images that captured his family, friends, ranch life and the canyon pastureland that he loved so well. Bill is survived by his children: Mary Therese Carey (husband Doug) of Lincoln, Lori Beals of Lincoln, Kathy Sullivan of Scottsbluff; Bill Sullivan (wife Marianne) of Imperial; and Noreen Placek (husband Bob) of Alliance; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Donna Sullivan of North Platte; nieces; nephews; and a host of other beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alyce; parents Ed and Genevieve Sullivan; brother John L. Sullivan; and son-in-law Doug Beals. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. (Central) on October 4, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace with Fr. Thomas Bush officiating. William L. 'Bill' Sullivan (1926-2021) 

Ronald Frederick William Janicke, known as Buddy to longtime friends, was born August 13, 1937, in Lawrence, KS to Milton William and Fayetta Ville (Windhorst) Janicke. He was the second of three children, and their only son. Because his parents were both school teachers, the family moved frequently. Prior to his parents moving to Parks, NE, where Ron graduated from high school in 1955, the family had lived in Bellevue, Giltner, and Brule, Nebraska, among others. Upon graduation, he attended Hastings College, his dream of becoming an Aeronautical Engineer cut short, when after one semester, he chose to join the United States Navy in January of 1956. His hopes were to see the world, but he was instead stationed at Boca Chica Naval Air Station in Key West, Florida, working in the air control tower. Here he was able to explore the world of the oceans, avidly pursuing his love of snorkeling and SCUBA diving. He returned to Dundy County, Nebraska and began working with his brother-in-law north of Benkelman. He married Lois Jean Snow on September 26, 1965. To this union were born three children. Ron and Lois purchased a farm south of Max, NE in 1969, where he resided until his death. The farm needed a well for irrigation and together Ron and Lois drilled that first one by hand. It wasn’t long until word had gotten around about that hand drilled well, and others needed water too. Ron built a drilling rig to begin his new venture. Waterhole, as he was known on the CB radio, eventually bought a drilling rig and soon established Janicke Drilling. He is responsible for many of the wells in the area still in existence today. He spent his retirement by continuing to farm and raise alfalfa until 2009. Like any good father, Ronald enjoyed the things that his children participated in. Julia was a track athlete when she was younger but gravitated to music and drama, which he loved. He loved watching and attending Clayton’s sports from baseball to football to motorcycles until Clayton quit racing. Together with Lois, he also loved chasing Kathryn around the country as she participated in track meets where she had excelled at a young age, through college, and beyond. His love for the children continued as he then continued attending events for his grandchildren whenever possible. Ron will be remembered by many as the man who blew things up as he cleared the land with dynamite. He was the man who could break pliers with one hand just by squeezing the handles together. He loved to hunt and made sure the deer and wild turkeys had habitat at the river. Hunters have come and gone over the years, but to Ron, they were more like extended family members. Rarely was anyone turned away. Ronald was proud of his military career and was a member of the American Legion where he served several terms as the Legion Commander. His patriotism is seen every time the flags fly at the Benkelman cemetery, as he made many of the flag poles. He made the pole where the flag flies every day at the Dundy County Courthouse. Atop that particular flag pole at the courthouse is a drill bit he had once used while drilling. He was appointed as an Admiral of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska, an honor bestowed upon him after undertaking the project of building the first all weather track for Dundy County High School. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 27, 2021 at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 2 weeks. Preceding him in death were his parents Milton and Fayetta as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his three children, daughter Julia (Julie Faye) Hesseltine of Halsey, NE, son Clayton Ronald and Lori Janicke of Bird City KS, and daughter Kathryn Dee and Kendall Black of Hildreth, NE; eleven grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with another on the way including: Chauncy and Amy Hesseltine (Ea Ray, Mea Jo, Rowdy and Ryder), Cord and Kylee Hesseltine (Adaline and baby boy due in November), Clancy Hesseltine, Caitlyn Hesseltine, Colt Hesseltine, Walker Janicke, Devon and Yazmin Janicke (Eli and Daniel), Jordan Janicke, Emmett Black, Zebediah Black and Lizzy Black. He is also survived by his older sisters Mary (Jim) Baney and Jane (Evart) Barton as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday morning, October 1, 2021, 10:30 A.M. (Mountain Time) at the Janicke River Farm south of Max, Nebraska, with Rev. Jeffrey Powell officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Nebraska, with full military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon, 3:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 27, 2021 at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 2 weeks. Preceding him in death were his parents Milton and Fayetta as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his three children, daughter Julia (Julie Faye) Hesseltine of Halsey, NE, son Clayton Ronald and Lori Janicke of Bird City KS, and daughter Kathryn Dee and Kendall Black of Hildreth, NE; eleven grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with another on the way including: Chauncy and Amy Hesseltine (Ea Ray, Mea Jo, Rowdy and Ryder), Cord and Kylee Hesseltine (Adaline and baby boy due in November), Clancy Hesseltine, Caitlyn Hesseltine, Colt Hesseltine, Walker Janicke, Devon and Yazmin Janicke (Eli and Daniel), Jordan Janicke, Emmett Black, Zebediah Black and Lizzy Black. He is also survived by his older sisters Mary (Jim) Baney and Jane (Evart) Barton as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday morning, October 1, 2021, 10:30 A.M. (Mountain Time) at the Janicke River Farm south of Max, Nebraska, with Rev. Jeffrey Powell officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Nebraska, with full military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon, 3:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. (Mountain Time) at the Benkelman Memorial Chapel, Benkelman, Nebraska, with the family present. Ronald’s casket will not be open for public visitation at services on Friday. A memorial has been suggested in Ronald’s memory, to the Janicke family, for a future designation.
