Hazel Gimeson, 84, of Grant, NE, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant. Hazel was born May 1, 1937 at Almena Kansas, the third of four children to Elisa F. and Mayme A. (Picraux) Courtain. When Hazel was five, the family moved to Oxford, NE and she lost her mother at age 8, she lost her father at the age 15. Hazel and her sister Beulah spent some time in the Holdrege orphanage and she received her education at Oxford, NE. On July 11, 1954, Hazel married Merle W. Gimeson at Oxford, NE. Their union was blessed with five children, Richard, Joyce, Henry, (Merle) Dewayne, and Christopher. Hazel and Merle resided in Yuma, CO when they celebrated the birth of their first son, the family lived in Orleans, NE when they welcomed their daughter. In 1961 the family moved to Grant, Merle was employed by Jones Construction and Hazel was a working mother. Summers were spent traveling with the whole family to many states including Kansas, Illinois, South Dakota, and Nebraska. Hazel worked at many jobs, occasionally two at time as waitress, housekeeping and a wonderful cook at the Hospital, Crescent Cafe and many years at Perkins County High School. Hazel was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church at Grant and served on the board and was always available to help with Church projects and gatherings and enjoyed the fellowship of pot lucks. Hazel created many beautiful quilts for the Fall Festival raffle at church. Hazel was an excellent seamstress and quilter. She has created many beautiful works of art cherished by her children. Hazel welcomed many friends with open arms and touched many lives with her kindness and love of life and family. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Fred and Herb Courtain. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Merle of Grant; children, Richard (Cherie) Gimeson, of Norton, KS; Joyce Rahn of Ogallala; Henry (Brenda) Gimeson of Windsor, CO; (Merle) Dewayne (Donna) Gimeson of Chadron, NE; Christopher Gimeson of Gothenburg; Sister Beulah (Don) Vahle of Long Island, KS; Grandchildren Joshua, Riley, Zachary, Craig Allan, Vern Dale, Wade, Devon, Logan, August, Victoria and a very special adopted grandchild Samantha. Great-Grandchildren Ravi, Rylee, Callie, Camden, Kennady, and Jake; and many friends and extended family. Sunya Peters-Kash passed away January 11, 2021 in Tampa, Florida.

Born April 28, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois, she was the only child of Neil and Alice Cole.&nbsp; She grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska (1950) where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

In 1950, Sunya and Darrel Peters wed and then moved to Chicago, Illinois for his studies at the University of Chicago Theological Seminary. In 1952, they returned to farm in Dawson County, Nebraska prior to buying their own farm in 1957 near Arnold, Nebraska where they remained until his death in 1995. Sunya lived in Lexington, Nebraska for several years before joining her youngest daughter and husband in Florida in 2016.

Sunya volunteered as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor for many years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and attended Arnold United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Sunya was an advocate of the arts and humanities and enjoyed being a docent for the North Platte Art Study League. Sunya and Darrel hosted numerous Rotary International Exchange students and maintained contact with them through the decades. She enjoyed playing bridge and was quick to make a new group of friends in Tampa who played each week until the pandemic.

Sunya is remembered as having a vibrant personality to match her name, and as an excellent cook and hostess who welcomed happy gatherings around the dining room table.

Sunya was predeceased by a son, David John; as well as her husbands Darrel Peters, Milton Hoffman, and Louis Kash. 

She is survived by daughters Cynthia (John) Timmermier of Kennard, Nebraska, Melanie (Lane) Chesley of Callaway, Nebraska and Stephanie (Charlie) Delp of Tampa, Florida; granddaughter Meredith (Jaycob) O'Hanlon and grandson Dylan Chesley; and great-granddaughter Ever Lillian O'Hanlon.

Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Humanities Nebraska.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 23, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Eddie Mariel, Officiating.

Joyce P. Austin (92) of Ogallala,&nbsp; died Thursday July 15, 2021 at Northern Colorado Medical Center, in Greeley, CO.&nbsp;

She was born December 23, 1928 in Sharon Springs, Kansas to Nathan and Myrtle (Foster) Aumiller, joining their family of nine children.&nbsp;

She attended school in Burlington, Colorado until her family moved to Seibert, Colorado in 1942. There she graduated high school in 1947 and met Robert (Bob) L. Austin. The two were married on February 15, 1948 in Stratton, Colorado.

In 1952, the couple moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado where Bob worked in the lumber business and they lived there for nine years, starting a family with son, Daniel.&nbsp; In 1968 they moved to Paxton, Nebraska where they both worked for Kildare Lumber and welcomed daughter, Pamela. The family moved to Ogallala where Bob managed the yard and Joyce worked as the bookkeeper until they retired in 1989. Joyce was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and its Altar Society.

She is survived by daughter, Pam (Clark);&nbsp; Diedrich of Brule; son, Nathan Aumiller of Laramie Wyoming, granddaughters Lea (Kucks) of Omaha, Misty&nbsp; (Steve) Cummings of Fort Collins, and Summer Diedrich of Ogallala; one grandson Brian (Michelle) Austin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and five great grandchildren. Her sister Myrtle Murphy of Goodland, Kansas.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, son Daniel in 2018,&nbsp; parents, four brothers and four sisters.&nbsp;

Doris Loree Dykes, age 68, of Axtell, Nebraska, formerly of Ogallala passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Mosaic of the Great Plains in Axtell, Nebraska, surrounded by her loving friends and caregivers. &nbsp; &nbsp;Doris was born September 8, 1952, in North Platte, NE to Robert K. and Odeth I. (Huffman) Dykes, the oldest of their four children.

&nbsp;Doris lived her first 5 years in McPherson County, and in November 1957 the family moved to their new ranch home in Baldey Valley in Arthur County.

On July 1, 1982, Doris moved to the Bethphage Village (now Mosaic of the Great Plains) in Axtell Nebraska for more varied opportunities in her life.

Doris attended ESU#16 school at Ogallala from August 1968 to May 1970. She then worked at PAKS workshop until her move to Axtell.

Doris loved music, cats, square dancing and riding her three-wheeled bicycle. She enjoyed having coffee every morning with her friends and the staff at Mosaic. Doris had a sense of humor that could catch you unaware and had some zinger statements on her view of&nbsp; people and life!&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Doris is survived by her sisters, Nancy Dykes of Oxford, Nebraska, and Eloise Dykes of Ogallala, Nebraska., nephew, Robert V (Tina) Dykes; and a multitude of cousins and friends.

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her grandparents Bird and Ruby Huffman, Elva and Howard Dykes; parents, Robert and Odeth Dykes, brother David Dykes, three nieces, Rachel Jean, Maria Cathleen and Sheena Marie Dykes.

Wilton “Willie” Padgett, 86, of North Platte, passed away July 16, 2021, at Linden Court. He was born on March 9, 1935, to Henry and Juanita (Starling) Padgett in Chiefland, Florida.

Willie graduated from Westminster High School in Denver with the class of 1953. He entered the United States Marines on December 29, 1953, and served stateside. After his discharge in 1956, Willie went back to Denver. He married Vauni Powell and to this union, three children were born, Frederick, Darrin, and Lynette Padgett.

On March 2, 1979, Willie married Margaret (Greivel) Parker at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Julesburg, Colorado. The couple lived in Ogallala and Willie worked as meat market manager at Safeway in Ogallala. He worked at Hatch’s Super Food in Grant and retired in 2016. They moved to North Platte in 2017.

Willie liked to golf and was passionate about his yard and animals, especially his dogs. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed motorcycles and waved and talked to everyone, never knowing a stranger.

Survivors include wife Margaret of North Platte; children, Darrin A. (Tammy) Padgett of Ogallala, Lynette Fowler of Ogallala, James J. (Maryann) Parker IV of North Platte, William “Eric” (Colleen) Parker of Casper, Wyoming; eight grandchildren, Andrew Scott, Nathan Padgett, Morgan (Eric) Enyeart, Haley (Brad) Adkisson, Jacob Parker, Emily (Kris) Boardman, Cherie O’Bryant, Austin Padgett; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Joan Padgett of Denver; several nephews; dog and best friend, Beau.

He was preceded in death by wife Vauni, his parents, Henry and Juanita; step-father, Horace “Pete” Phillips; son, Frederick “Ricky”; brother, Norman; sisters, Dorothy “Dot” and Lenore.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for the excellent care by the Linden Court Staff. Also, for the loving care of Willie by Dr. Eduardo Freitas.

Wilton 'Willie' Padgett (1935-2021)

Miss Kathryn Lynn Eskew, age 72, of Manassas, VA passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Birmingham Green Health Care Center in Manassas, VA.&nbsp; She was born, in McCook, NE on October 3, 1948, and was adopted by Virgil “Bud” Milton and Viela “June” (Fleming) Eskew when she was 3 days old.&nbsp;

Kay’s younger years were spent in Imperial, Nebraska where she went to school through 5th grade (1958) with her best friend, Penny (Hill) Teply.&nbsp; The family moved to Lincoln, NE (1959) when her dad, Bud, became the director of the USDA office.&nbsp; During this time Kay attended school at Lincoln Southeast High School.&nbsp; In 1962 they moved to Washington D.C. where he worked with the Department of Agriculture.&nbsp; Kay was a 1967 graduate of Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA and she attended George Mason College in Virginia.

Kay chose to stay in Virginia when her parents moved to Denver, CO in 1970. She worked at Peoples Drug Store for a time. Her close friend and companion, Bobby Wyecoff, died in 1985. &nbsp;Kay struggled through the years with seizures and other problems related to Schizophrenia.&nbsp; She eventually moved into Community Residences in Arlington, VA where she had many friends especially in the business community where she brightened everyone’s day with her sense of humor.

Following her time at Community Residences, she was hospitalized and eventually moved to Birmingham Green in 2010. &nbsp;She received great care from the staff on the Cardinal Heights Team and from her guardians, Cheryl and Hillary.

When feeling well, she enjoyed being around people and brought joy to the others around her. Kay loved music, dancing and singing. As a child, she did ballet, and she played the piano up through high school.&nbsp; She talked about how she enjoyed dancing because it made her feel free. Now she is free and can sing and dance to her favorite songs, “You Are My Sunshine” and “Jesus Loves Me”! &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents (her father 1985 and mother in 2011); and cousin, Richard A. Myers (2016); many aunts, uncles.&nbsp;

Survivors include her Virginia family: Guardians Cheryl Johnson and Hillary Rodak and the Birmingham Green Cardinal Heights team and nurse Melba who set up facetime every week; &nbsp;her “Nebraska” cousins: Cheri (Jerry) Beckenhauer of Papillion, NE who facetimed with her weekly, Steven &amp; Billy Myers of Provincetown, MA, Jolene Myers of Lafayette, CO; &nbsp;Bob (Monica) Myers of Madison, WI, Brock (Lori) Myers of Longmont, CO; Lynette (Michael) Holloway, Scott (Michalene) Beckenhauer of Papillion, NE and Lisa (Daniel) Pomajzl of Seward, NE.&nbsp;

Sharon Kay Freeman was born April 28, 1938, in Sargent, NE to Harold &amp; Wave (Harris) Garska. Sharon attended and graduated from Loup County High School. After high school Sharon went on and received her Teachers Certificate. Sharon taught school for over 35 years, and then substitute taught. On August 21, 1986, she was united in marriage to Marvin Freeman, the couple made their home in the Sandhills of Nebraska.

Sharon is survived by daughters Tess (Roger) Sinner of Sargent, Mellissa (Greg) Freeman of Dunning, Stepson; Marvin Freeman of Lockwood, MO, nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, son Mick Welton, stepson William “Billy” Freeman, and her parents Harold and Wave Garska.

Eva Louise Phelps, age 85, of Anselmo, NE passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at her home in Anselmo, NE.

Eva Louise (Howard) Phelps was born on September 11, 1935, to Robert and Gladys (Hammond) Howard in Mullen NE. Eva was the youngest of 5 children. Her siblings were Bruce, Robert (Bob), Betty and Mary. She spent her childhood in the Mullen and Seneca area. Her mother Gladys passed away when she was 6 months old. After a short time of living with her Grandma Hammond, a family friend, Minnie Wells, came into their home as a foster Mom and raised the children.&nbsp; Eva learned to ride horses at a very young age, tend chickens, garden, farm and ranch under Minnie’s teaching. 

In 1950 she married Hugh Thiel and they had three children Bill, Gladys, and Jim. They continued to make their home in the Mullen, Seneca area and later divorced.

After she moved to Custer County, NE, she met Leland Phelps and they married on December 10, 1958. To this union were added four children Ivan, Iris, Irvin, and Irma. They made their home in Anselmo, Ne. Working together she and Leland raised all seven children. Teaching them hard work, faith, family, and integrity. In 1972 Eva went to work outside the home as a nursing assistant/CNA. She worked in several facilities throughout her career, predominately in Custer County. She continued to garden, raise chickens and farm after Leland passed away in April 1984. Eva was known throughout her life to be willing to help those in the nursing home with love and compassion until her retirement in 2008 at the age of 72.

Her faith was a quiet faith. She didn’t talk about it much, she just lived it. She came to know Christ as her personal savior in the 1980s but had always attended the Open Bible Church with the children, helping in Sunday school and encouraging her children’s faith in the Lord.

Eva would have a song, poem or saying for about every situation. Like right now I can hear her say to this gathering, “move over, there is always room for one more.” She loved having her family gather together and visit. She also loved to see us go home so she could rest. This is what happened the night she passed. We had all gathered around her, singing, talking, reading scripture, and letting her know how much she was loved. But after everyone left and she was able to quiet down in her bed she sighed a last sigh and went Home to Glory, safe in the arms of Jesus on July 14, 2021.

There were many family members that made that journey before her. Her dad and mom, Robert, and Gladys; her foster mom, Minnie; siblings Bruce, Bob, Mary, and their spouses; husband Leland and his siblings, and spouses; sons-in-law Ray Sexton and LA Hayes; daughters-in-law Robin Thiel and Julie Phelps; and great grandson Logan Maring.

&nbsp;She is survived by so many more. Her sister Betty French and sister-in-law Cleo Phelps, her children William (Bill) Thiel, Gladys Sexton, Jim (Vicki) Thiel, Ivan (Liz) Phelps, Iris Hayes, Irvin Phelps and Irma (Mark) Eggleston; grandchildren, there are 27; great grandchildren, there are 39 with two more expected this year; and great, great grandchildren, there are two; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends and community members. Her life was well lived.

Renate Fresh passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska at the age of 87. Renate was born April 14, 1934 in Heidelberg, Germany to Wilhelm and Willamina (Leier) Denner. Following graduation, Renate married a U.S. Soldier. The couple moved to the United States of America when she was just 19 years old.&nbsp; Their union was blessed with 6 children. Renate loved every minute of raising her children and spending time with family. She enjoyed card games, playing yahtzee, berry picking and going fishing. 

Renate was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Anita; and infant granddaughter, Stephanie McKinney. 

Survivors include her children, Margot (Sam) Bowser of Washington, Bill (Jeanette) McKinney of Texas, Richard McKinney of Colorado, Dan McKinney of Colorado, Kathy Scott of Cozad, Nebraska and Robert McKinney of Cozad, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Trudy, Margot and Ingrid; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Isabella Kay Sneed, age 18, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away July 9, 2021 at Great Plains Healthin North Platte.&nbsp; Isabella was born July 25, 2002, in North Platte to Scott and Chandra (Starr) Sneed.

She grew up in North Platte and attended North Platte High School.&nbsp; She was the oldest of three daughters.&nbsp; Isabella adored being a big sister to Jillian and Emily and loved them both fiercely.&nbsp; &nbsp;

With her warrior attitude, Isabella ultimately won her battle against Type 1 diabetes.&nbsp; She often referred to herself as a “dia-badass” and was always happy and always trying to make everyone laugh.&nbsp; She loved her “dad jokes” so much, she would tell the same jokes often, even if she was the only one laughing. &nbsp;Isabella was very nostalgic; she loved all kinds of music and movies from before her time. She was a huge fan of Marvel, DC, and Disney movies.&nbsp; Isabella was a talented artist.&nbsp; She loved to draw her own superheroes, write her own books, as well as poetry.&nbsp; Overall, Isabella had a huge heart and so much love for her family.

Isabella is survived by her parents, Scott and Chandra Sneed; sisters, Jillian and Emily Sneed; grandparents, Jamie Sloggett, Mike (Sheila) Sneed; great-grandparents, Nana &amp; Papa Fisher, Nancy Wardyn; uncles, Scotty Sloggett, Tigger Mora, Tony (Rey) Starr; aunts, Amy Sneed, Brittany Steady; cousins, Austin (Kylie Collins) Sneed; best friend, Malaky Johnston; along with numerous honorary aunts and uncles.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Doug McIntosh; great-grandfathers, Johnny Wardyn and Deward McIntosh; great-grandmother, Bonnie Sloggett; and great uncles, Thomas Wardyn and Jerry Sneed.

Isabella Kay Sneed  (2002-2021)

Longtime Lexington, Nebraska resident Leona Jones, age 93, died Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Leona was born Oct. 27, 1927, in Staplehurst, Nebraska, to Hans and Johanna Sorenson.

She leaves a legacy of three children, eight grandchildren and&nbsp;ten great-grandchildren, all of whom she remembered with a card on each of their birthdays and doted on during family gatherings.&nbsp;

Leona and her husband, Lloyd, enjoyed playing golf together in Lexington and in south Texas for years. A stray shot might prompt the comment, “Piffle,” from Leona but nothing stronger.

She was a staunch follower of Nebraska athletics, watching Husker football games from seats in the west stands for decades and attending an occasional away game. During one such game, she and Lloyd made lifelong friends of arch-rival Penn State fans Ron and Annie Moyer after meeting them at a College Station tailgate party.&nbsp; A milestone moment came when she and Lloyd got to see the Huskers beat Florida 63-24 for the national title in 1996,&nbsp;but watching and/or listening to a Nebraska basketball or volleyball victory pleased her just as much - even in the final months of her life.

Leona enjoyed playing bridge and other card games. A competitive streak came out at times during those games and her famous homemade ice cream and ever-ready cookies or sweets followed an evening of cards with family or friends.&nbsp;

Leona didn’t enjoy baseball, but sat through countless games in Lexington at the fairgrounds with her baseball-loving husband. She also attended many, many high school athletic events and probably would have done so regardless of whether her children and grandchildren were playing.

Leona and Lloyd enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in south Texas, escaping the Nebraska winters. Leona made a trip to Washington a decade ago as well as a road trip from Lexington to New Mexico and Texas to visit grandchildren. She and Lloyd loved to dance and often made friends at dances held in Nebraska.

Instead of growing more set in her ways as she aged, Leona was open-minded about new-fangled gadgets pushed on her by family -&nbsp; microwave ovens, TiVos, DVRs, laptop computers, Facebook and the like. That open-mindedness extended to people. She was a non-judgmental and giving woman who enjoyed many friends.&nbsp;

Leona served as a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Lexington, NE for over 60 years and donated time to various community organizations such as the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. &nbsp; &nbsp;She was a member and leader in the Eastern Star organization for years and she and Lloyd were instrumental &nbsp;in bringing the HOST program to Lexington Public Schools from their time in Texas. She will be greatly missed and forever admired by family, friends and those who knew her for her strong spirit and giving heart.&nbsp;

Leona is survived by two sons, Mark (Patty) of Lincoln, NE and Scott (Starla) of Hobbs, N.M.; a daughter, Sheila (Kent) Bader of Richland, WA; grandchildren Megan Gilbertson of Lincoln, NE, Michala Christianson of Denton, TX, Erin Manken of Central City, NE, Zach Jones of Lexington, NE, Kelly Vaselli of Albuquerque, N.M., Shawna Jones of Gibraltar, NE, Sydney Thomas of Madison, WI, and Cecily Bader of Richland, WA; and&nbsp;ten great-grandchildren.

Leona is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; one brother, Leo; and two sisters, Sally and Irene.

Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at Reynolds Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska with the Reverend Anne Gahn, officiating. The service will be live streamed on the Reynolds Love Facebook page.

Inurnment will be in the First United Methodist Church Columbarium in Lexington, Nebraska.

Leona J. Jones  (1927-2021)

Nellie Anne (Olson) Catterson, age 82, of North Platte, NE passed away on July 13, 2021. She was born on October 31, 1938 to Carl and Clarice (Gordon) Olson in Emmons, MN.&nbsp; At an early age the family moved to Dresden, KS and then to Wellfleet, NE where she attended school through the 8th grade. She then attended high school in North Platte living and working for room and board, graduating in 1957. Upon graduation she attended Kearney State College earning a two-year teaching degree. She began her teaching career in Grant, NE teaching the 6th grade. After teaching in Grant for 3 years during which she took summer classes, she returned to Kearney State, earning her Bachelors Degree in Education. She was then hired to teach at Jefferson Elementary in North Platte, NE.

It was at this time she was to meet and marry her husband of 56 ½ years, James Catterson. Between raising a family and teaching, she taught a total of 30 years at Jefferson and McDonald Elementary, retiring from education in 1998. After retirement, Nellie enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends to different places in the U.S. and other countries. She greatly enjoyed her volunteer work with MOPS and The Bridge of Hope and working with young children. She and her husband also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for a few years as well. Nellie was a people person and never knew a stranger. If she didn’t know someone, she would introduce herself and start up a conversation. Nellie was an active member of the local DOES Chapter and then joined the Ogallala Chapter and drove after the North Platte Chapter folded. She was also a member of Chapter GO of the PEO organization and United Methodist Women.

Nellie was preceded in death by her father, Carl Olson; mother, Clarice Olson Arnold; step-father Rex Arnold; and her sister Ladonna Cook.

She is survived by her husband, James; son, Darin (Michelle) Catterson of Bellevue, NE; daughter, Kimberly Angel of Lochbuie, CO and son, Gregg (Robin) Catterson of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Chauntel Fries, Tiffany Fries, Katelyn Angel, Gabrielle Catterson, Regan Catterson, Daniel Catterson, Nick Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Kaydan Fries, Brycen Fries, Mason Fries, James Lane Catterson, Deliah Rhodes and LeAnna Rhodes; sisters, Carol (Jim) Eshelman, Helen (Gary) McConnell; brothers, Raymond (Phyllis) Olson, David Olson; sister-in-law Gwendolyn Catterson and many nieces and nephews.

James Leroy Rayer, age 85, of McCook, Nebraska passed away at the Hillcrest Care Center of McCook on Sunday, July 11, 2021. He was born at home in Bartley, Nebraska April 19, 1936, to Maurice W. and Elsie (Colling) Rayer. Jim attended and graduated from Indianola High School in 1953. He continued his education at Kearney State Teachers College in 1957 and received his Bachelor of Science Education. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from July 1959 till he was Honorably Discharged on April 1965.

Jim taught in the towns Sutherland, Wood River, Clarks, Bennington, and Gothenburg in Nebraska before retiring in 1978. He worked for a short time for Perry Grain before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska. In Lincoln, he worked for Nordan Labs until 2008. Jim returned to southwest Nebraska to be close to family. He was a lifelong bachelor, but loved to be around his nephews, nieces, and great-nieces and nephews. He was a devout catholic man and enjoyed coyote hunting in his early years. More recently, he enjoyed reading, playing all types of card games (Pitch, Pinochle, Rummy), and Bingo. Jim liked to watch Philadelphia Phillies baseball and the Huskers.He was a member of the Indianola Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Elsie; brother, Maurice “Joe” Rayer; and a great-nephew, Isaac Cornwell.

Jim is survived by his sister, Mary and husband, Albert Hayes, of Bartley, Nebraska; brother, Richard “Dick” and wife, Jane Rayer, of Indianola, Nebraska; ten nieces and nephew; ten great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Anne Rayer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She graduated from the Mid Plains Community College LPN program in 1988. Jody loved being a nurse. Wherever she worked, her patients became family to her. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was united in marriage to Gary Grabowski on December 23, 1995, in Chappell, NE. To this union two sons were born: Ben and Sam.&nbsp; Her boys were her priority. She was proudly at every game, had mandatory Sunday family dinner, and enjoyed every moment spent with them. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She enjoyed all sports, cooking, and baking. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Shane Tucker Weller, age 24, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his home after a lengthy battle with Type I Diabetes. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Born on September 24, 1996 in Julesburg, Colorado, he was the son of E. Shane Craighead and Brenda (Russell) Smith.&nbsp; On January 26, 2009, at the age of 7, he was welcomed into the home of his adopted parents, Dan and Becky Weller. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Shane worked at various fast-food restaurants in North Platte.&nbsp; He enjoyed mechanics and was a hard worker.&nbsp; He was getting ready to volunteer at Great Plains Hospital at the time of his passing.&nbsp; Shane was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and loved the Lord.&nbsp; He received Jesus as Savior at Harvest Baptist Church in Ft. Cheryl A. Long, age 70, of Chappell, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2021 at her home.

Cheryl loved her family and friends.&nbsp; Cheryl would help anyone if she could, no questions asked.&nbsp; She loved watching her football.&nbsp; The Denver Broncos and Nebraska Cornhuskers would have priority over any other game.&nbsp; She was also an avid pool player playing for many years in the American Pool Association league.&nbsp; She also enjoyed her time at the lake with friends.

Cheryl is survived by her 2 children, Ron (Stacy) Rosenbach from Florida and Sheila (Troy) Weber from Texas; 5 grandkids, Jordan, Jake, and Audrey Rosenbach from Florida and Renee Holovacko and Breanna Weber from Colorado;&nbsp; 3 great grandkids, Shylee Dalstrom, Rhilye Holovacko and Jaxon Rincon from Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;Cheryl is also survived by her siblings, Mary (Gary) Jeppson of Nebraska, Mike (Deb) Wright of Georgia, Mark (Regina) Wright of Colorado, Doris (Rodger) Martin of Kansas, Kenny (Rayleen) Wright of Kansas and Les (Linda) Wright of Kansas; along with many nieces and nephews.

Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Lillian Wright; her sister, Peggy Wagner; her sister, Donna Calvin; and her nephew, Rory Jeppson.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Charles Sherman Fisher, age 59, of Broken Bow, Nebraska passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 10:30 am at the Berean Bible City Campus located at 604 South H Street Broken Bow, NE with Pastor Tyce Jensen officiating. Burial will be at the Broken Bow Cemetery with Military Honors.

Charles Sherman Fisher was born on April 17, 1962 in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; Shortly after his birth, his parents, Gail Fisher &amp; Marilyn (Griffith) Fisher moved to a home outside of Sargent, Nebraska.&nbsp; The family lived there until Charles had completed kindergarten.&nbsp; At that time, the family moved to Hyannis, Nebraska where Charles lived until he graduated from high school.

Following graduation, Charles enrolled at Mid Plains Community College to study diesel mechanics.&nbsp; At the same time, Charles enlisted in the Army National Guard.&nbsp; He proudly served in the Guard for 12 years.&nbsp; After completing his program of study at Mid Plains, Charles worked for several years as a mechanic.&nbsp; During that time he discovered that his true passion was driving trucks and that became his primary occupation for the majority of his career.&nbsp; Charles had an entrepreneurial spirit and tried his hand at several different business ventures.

Charles married his loving wife, Pam Spangler in 1987.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Lexington, Nebraska for a number of years before they ultimately moved to Broken Bow, Nebraska.&nbsp; The couple raised two children - Carlene &amp; Anna.&nbsp; Charles was very devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren.

Besides the love he had for his family, Charles also had a real passion for guns, old trucks, and the old west.&nbsp; He took a great deal of pride in being from Hyannis and felt that growing up there had been a unique opportunity.&nbsp; Charles had a great sense of humor, he knew no strangers and was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Gary Lee Korus, age 70, of McCook, Nebraska passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Kearney Reginal Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born in Omaha to Clement T. and Frances (Gaston) Korus on February 7, 1951.&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended and graduated from Bennington High School in 1969. He attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and was on the wrestling team.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1981 he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves.

Gary was united in marriage to Gayl Gilliam on June 6, 1981, in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Dallas, Cody, and Clayton.&nbsp;&nbsp;The couple celebrated 40 years of marriage this year.&nbsp;&nbsp;He worked on the family farm until 1984 when they moved to Alzada, MT, where he worked as a ranch hand.&nbsp;&nbsp;They moved back to McCook, NE in 1985 where he was a grain elevator manager for Seaboard Grain Company and retired as a grain elevator manager for Farmers Coop in Trenton, NE.

Gary treasured family time, family vacations, attending all of each child’s sporting events. &nbsp;He helped coach his boys’ sports teams: wrestling, flag football, baseball, soccer and cheering on his daughter in softball, basketball, and tennis. He liked to be outdoors, fishing, camping, and hiking.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gary loved to travel and see the countryside and the mountains. The family traveled to many graduations of his son from various military service schools in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and San Diego, as well as to visit his daughter in New Orleans, Florida, and California. Gary was a member of the American Legion, United Methodist Church, and served on the District 41 School Board.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Frances; and his sister, Jean Wiese.&nbsp;

Gary is survived by his wife, Gayl of McCook, NE; daughter, Cody and husband Tim Schenck of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Dallas and wife, Ashley Korus of Blair, NE and Clayton of Clarksville, TN; and four grandchildren: Keaton, Carter, Marley, and Quinnley.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be held&nbsp;on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Garden Prairie Methodist Church of McCook, NE at 10:30 A.M.&nbsp; A private family inurnment will take place at a future date.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>Gary Lee Korus, age 70, of McCook, Nebraska passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Kearney Reginal Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born in Omaha to Clement T. and Frances (Gaston) Korus on February 7, 1951.&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended and graduated from Bennington High School in 1969. He attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and was on the wrestling team.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1981 he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves.Gary was united in marriage to Gayl Gilliam on June 6, 1981, in Omaha, Nebraska. Gary Lee Korus  (1951-2021)

Bruce Allen Anderson, age 65, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 12, 2021, with his wife and family by his side. A special thank you to our nurse, Jamie Tucker, for going above and beyond for our family and to the rest of the AseraCare Hospice Staff.

Bruce was born on November 19, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Raymond and Delores (Oberman) Anderson. He attended public schools in Sioux City, Iowa. Following High School, Bruce enlisted in the United States Navy from 1974 until being honorably discharged in 1978. He served on the Destroyer USS Buchanan and Air Craft Carrier, The USS Coral Sea and also served in Hawaii and Vietnam.

In 1976 Bruce met the love of his life, Audra, and her daughter, Laurie, which he claimed as his own. They were married on January 20, 1978, in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple moved to Grand Island, where Bruce worked as a diesel mechanic at Speedway and managed Mr. Lube and many townhomes. They then made their home at Johnson Lake, Nebraska, where he started working at Orthman’s Manufacturing. They lived at the Lake for 14 years and then bought a home in Lexington, Nebraska. He worked at Orthman’s for 31 years and eventually worked his way up to supervisor.

He was an avid lover of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved target shooting and was also a member of the Grand Island Archery Club for many years.

He loved spending time with his grandsons, Tyler and Nathan. He enjoyed teaching them how to hunt and fish. They were his whole world. He had a fantastic personality, and anyone who knew him loved being around him. He was a hard worker and the best husband and provider anyone could ever ask for.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Audra of Lexington, NE; daughter, Laurie (John) Richardson of Grand Island, NE; two grandsons, Nathan Bush and Tyler (Shayla) Bush all of Grand Island, NE; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Braydon and Taylor; brothers, Gary (Billy) Worster of Beatrice, NE, Terry (Martha) Anderson of Portland, Oregon, and Kevin (Kelly) Anderson of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Sherry Schellenberg of Scribner, Zena (Randy) vonHagel of Hawarden, Iowa, Linda Sanow of Le Mars, Iowa, Laurie (Mark) Baird of Portland, Oregon, Susan (Dan) Bellanger of Portland, Oregon, and Alicia Arens of La Mars, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Deannie Hudson of Holdrege, NE and Carla Anderson of Jefferson, South Dakota; nieces, Cheyenne (Jordan) Wiedel of Holdrege, NE, Savannah Beck and special friend, Ryan of McCook, NE, Stormie Hudson of Holdrege, NE, Brandi Coufal and her children, Dylynn and Kelsey Coufal, Tenleigh and fiancé Axel (Kearney) all of Grand Island, NE; nephews, Jaxon Hudson of Holdrege, NE and Jamie (Amy) Bodfield and their children, Ethan and Evan Bodfield of Castle Rock, Colorado; as well as extended family and many friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Worster and step-father, Grandville “Shorty” Worster; father, Raymond Anderson; father-in-law, Paul Bodfield, Sr., mother and father-in-law, Dan (Audrey) Peppler; brothers, Raymond Anderson and Dwight Anderson; brothers-in-law, Paul “Buster” Bodfield, Robbie Bodfield and Mike Bodfield; Glenn Schellenberg and Pete Sanow; nephews, Robbie “Bub” Bodfield and Blue Bodfield.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. The casket will be closed.

Interment with Full Military Honors will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Michael Robert White, age 67, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on June 26, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; He was born on November 10, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska to Robert James White and Evelyn Lenore Wisely.&nbsp; Michael grew up in Arizona and resided there until the early 1980's, then he moved to Grand Island, Nebraska.&nbsp; He lived in Grand Island when the devastating tornados ripped through the city.&nbsp; He helped with the city cleanup after the devastation.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In 1983, he moved to North Platte, Nebraska working for detox and as a custodian at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Tomahawk Truck Stop.&nbsp; Michael married Shirley Lunkwitz in 1985 at the First Lutheran Church.&nbsp; To this union a son, Robert, was born in 1986.&nbsp; They moved to Pennsylvania in 2004 and worked as a floor tech for Wal-Mart until 2011.&nbsp; Then they moved back to North Platte in late 2011 to help take care of his mother-in-law. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Michael enjoyed fishing, loved to drink coffee, attend car shows, and would sometimes enjoy tinkering on old cars. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include his wife, Shirley White; son, Robert (Elizabeth Junkin) White of North Platte, Nebraska; grandson, Octavyus Junkin of North Platte, Nebraska; Brandi Tomlinson of North Platte; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert &amp; Evelyn; and his Grandmother Wisely. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Services are pending. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Dunn Rutz, age 97, of Arnold, Nebraska passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at the Brookestone View of Broken Bow.

An online guest book may be signed at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.govierbrothers.com/">www.govierbrothers.com</a>.&nbsp;Helen was born August 16, 1923, in Edmonton Alberta, Canada to Edwin and Emma (Gladem) Burrell.&nbsp; At the age of 2, Helen’s family moved to Omaha, Nebraska.&nbsp; Her mother died when she was 2 and her father died when she was 12.&nbsp; After she graduated from High School Helen moved to California to live with an aunt.&nbsp; Helen loved California.&nbsp; She spent several years there before returning to Omaha.&nbsp; Helen met Joe “Bud” Dunn.&nbsp; To this union 2 children were born.&nbsp; The family moved to Arnold, Nebraska where Bud had grown up.&nbsp; Helen’s 8-year-old stepson Joseph E. joined the family.&nbsp; Bud died in 1973.On August 7, 1977, Helen married Willie Rutz, and they made their home in Gothenburg, Nebraska.&nbsp; Willie died in 1989.&nbsp; Helen returned to Arnold, Nebraska and lived at the Riverview Apartments for twelve and a half years before moving to the Brookstone View in Broken Bow, Nebraska.&nbsp;Helen is survived by her daughter Diane (Mo) Sanford of Arnold, NE; brother Ed (Barbara) Burrell of Stoddard, WI; sister-in-law Carrol Burrell of Omaha, NE, grandchildren; Hether Dunn (Mike Wonsiewicz), Caitlyn (T.J.)
