Evelyn Marlene Holmes was born in Amelia, NE to Leon and Leone (Bacon) Thompson&nbsp;on February 9, 1936. She passed away peacefully at her home on July 25, 2021. Most people remember her from her time as a Ward Clerk at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska. She graduated as an elementary school teacher from Kearney State Teacher’s College in 1950’s and taught school until she married James J. Holmes from Arcadia, NE on March 28, 1959. They lived on a farm outside if Arcadia for their married life. Jim passed away in 1998. In 2005, Evelyn and her son Dan moved to Broken Bow, NE. Jim and Evelyn adopted Sandra Holmes in January of 1963 and later adopted Jude Holmes in November of 1967 and Daniel Holmes in December of the same year. Evelyn loved her children more than anything in the world. She had a huge heart and along with Jim, they became foster parents in 1985 and took in high school age children for about 3 years. While Evelyn was raising her kids, she also ran the Arcadia Guide. When Jude and Dan were still in school, she went back to school and became a Nurse Aide and began nursing at JMMMC. She held a few jobs over the years, including a secretary, a clerk at Gibson’s in Broken Bow, a dispatcher at the Ord Police Department, a Nurse Aid at Rose Lane in Loup City, but she landed back at JMMMC as a Ward Clerk until she retired in January of 2014. Evelyn was a fantastic cook and was famous for her homemade pizza, cinnamon rolls, pies and kolaches. She was also an avid quilter. She made numerous quilts for many people and until recently, was an active member of Custer’s Last Stitch. Evelyn was a member of the Methodist Church of Broken Bow and went to church regularly until the pandemic in 2020. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Leone Thompson; her husband Jim Holmes; and her sister Shirley Griffiths.

She leaves behind her children, daughter Sandy (David) Dubbs of Loup City, NE, son Jude (Denae) Holmes of Kingwood, TX and son, Dan Holmes of Broken Bow, NE; grandchildren Norman and Joseph Merrill (Sandy’s boys) and LeAire (Jude’s stepdaughter); great grandchildren Elijah and Allison Merrill (Norm’s kids), and one on the way (Joe’s).&nbsp;

Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 10:00 am at the Arcadia United Methodist Church in Arcadia, NE with Pastor Phil Sloat officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcadia Cemetery. 

A visitation will take place on Friday, July 30, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE.

Evelyn Marlene Holmes  (1936-2021)

Dr. Tamara Sue (Hofman) Hlavaty, MD, age 62, formerly of Indianola, Nebraska, and currently of Grand Island, Nebraska passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 surrounded by loved ones at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado following a stroke.

Tammy was born April 30, 1959 in McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of Harvey &amp; Ramona Hofman.&nbsp; She grew up on the family farm newar Indianola, Nebraska and attended a one-room schoolhouse in Ash Creek.&nbsp; She then graduated from Republican Valley High School in 1977.

Beginning at the age of 12, Tammy regularly played the organ during church services at the nearby St. John Lutheran Ash Creek Church and greatly valued her church community.

She continued her education at McCook Community College and was awarded a Regents Scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.&nbsp; She graduated from UNL with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and completed an internship to become a registered dietician.

During her undergraduate college years, Tammy worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and also won the title of Nebraska Wheat Queen in 1981.

In April 1984, she married Todd Hlavaty at St. John Lutheran Church in McCook, Nebraska, and they were married for the next 32 years.&nbsp; Tammy and Todd attended medical school at the University of Arkansas together and both earned MD degrees in 1991.&nbsp; At graduation, Tammy was awarded the Winston K. Shorey Award by her peers for being the most compassionated and humanistic physician in their class.

After earning her MD degree, Tammy did her medical residency in radiology at University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics.&nbsp; While in Iowa, she delivered her first child, Tessa, in 1993 and her second child, Troy, in 1996.

Tammy also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve &amp; National Guard from 1986-1997.

Beginning in late 1996, she worked 17 years for Radiology Services and practiced at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska where she helped establish the first minimally invasive breast biopsy procedures.&nbsp; In the male-dominated field of radiology, Tammy advocated for women and focused much of her work on early detection of breast cancer.

Following her careen in North Platte, she joined Heartland Radiology at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island, Nebraska in 2016 and remained an enthusiastic physician until her passing.

In her most recent chapter, Tammy enjoyed spending time with her significant other, Mike, in Simi Valley, California and planned to retire there within the next several years.

Tammy was a devout Lutheran and believer in eternal salvation.&nbsp; Her favorite word was "gratitude" and she often expressed her gratitude for people who were there for her in good times and in challenging times.

Tammy greatly enjoyed running and competed in multiple major marathons across the United States including the New York Chicago, and L.A. Marathons.&nbsp; She also enjoyed cooking, new travel adventures, and spending time relaxing along ocean beaches.&nbsp; Her greatest pleasure was spending time with loved ones.&nbsp; Above all, Tammy loved being a mother and will be remembered for exemplifying the unwavering love of her children that all mothers strive for.

With patients and friends, Tammy had a way of making people feel seen, heard and appreciated without needing to say anything.&nbsp; She was a well-educated physician who kept the humbleness of a Nebraska farm girl.&nbsp; During her life, Tammy's presence, wisdom, and warmth were a gift to everyone she touched.

Following Tammy's wishes after her death, she continued to save lives through the gift of organ donation.

Tammy was preceded in death by her grandparents, William &amp; Henrietta Hofman and Reinhold &amp; Margaret Hinz; and her parents, Harvey &amp; Ramona Hofman.

She is survived by her daughter, Tessa Hlavaty (Jared) Thomsen of Portland, Oregon; her son, Troy Hlavaty of North Platte, Nebraska; her significant other, Michael Strombeck of Simi Valley, California; her ex-husband, Todd Hlavaty of North Platte, Nebraska; a brother, Brent (Debra) Horman of Indianola, Nebraska; a sister, Peggy (Cal) Stoltenberg of Norman, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. (CT), Saturday, July 31, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Ash Creek Church, southeast of McCook, Nebraska with Rev. Justin Hildebrand and Rev. Mike Reiners officiating.  Interment will follow services in the Ash Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will take place at St. John's Lutheran Church on Saturday morning prior to services.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn (Bremer) Eddins of Cheyenne, Wyoming died on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Cheyene Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born on December 6, 1942 in Imperial, Nebraska to Duane and Paulene (Edghill) Bremer. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn is survived by her husband, Joseph Eddins' her children, Eric (Meredith) Eddins of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Quinn (Tracy) Eddins of Murrieta, California, and Neil Eddins of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her sister, Scheryl (Jerry) Hunt of Champion, Nebraska; grandchildren, Cole, Sadie, Sawyer, Sutton, Miranda, and Emily; one aunt, Deane Bremer Dixon of McCook, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn graduated from high school in Curtis, Nebraska and then received her nursing licenses in 1965 from Saint Luke's Nursing School in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; While attending St. Luke's, she met her husband of 54 years, Joe Eddins.&nbsp; Joe was stationed at Lowery Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado attending missile launch school.&nbsp; After a brief romance, they got engaged prior to Joe being stationed in Germany.&nbsp; After a 14-month tour in Germany, Joe returned to marry Marilyn at the Methodist Church in Imperial, Nebraska on October 8, 1966. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Their honeymoon was spent traveling to Davis Montham AFB in Tucson, Arizona where Joe was a member of Titan II Launch Crew.&nbsp; Marilyn started her extensive nursing career as a surgical nurse in Tucson.&nbsp; After discharge from the Air Force, the Eddins worked in Colorado for the next 25 years.&nbsp; Marilyn worked in four different hospitals as a surgical, neonatal, nursery and geriatric nurse.&nbsp; After Joe's retirement, they moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where Marilyn worked as a geriatric nurse and retired after 12 years from Cheyenne Health Care Nursing Home, ending a 45-year career as a registered nurse.&nbsp; Marilyn led by example and showed us how to die with dignity.&nbsp; Amen! &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon &amp; Jacoby Funeral Home in Cheyenne, Wyoming. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A local memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial, Nebraska with Pastor Debra Copple officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial, Nebraska

Marilyn Eddins  (1942-2021)

Mr. Timothy W. Matson, age 51, of McCook, NE passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 25, 2021 in McCook.

Tim was born October 24, 1969 in McCook to parents Raymond J. and Charollette L. (Decker) Matson.&nbsp; He was one of four children who grew up in McCook, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1988.

On July 20, 1991, Tim married Lisa (Weiss) Matson in McCook, NE.&nbsp; To this union three children were born.&nbsp; Tim was employed by Parker Hannifin in McCook.

Tim enjoyed watching pro wrestling, shooting pool, hunting and fishing.&nbsp; Working with the animals at the McCook Humane Society was one of his favorite past times.&nbsp; He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; Tim was a member of the American Pool Association and the McCook Eagle’s Club.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents.

Timothy W. Matson  (1969-2021)

Eris Virginia Lee was born on December 28th, 1923 to parents Henry and Mada (Hand) Beck in Omaha Nebraska. Eris was surrounded by family as she peacefully left this earth on July 15, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Eris was spindly in stature and missed school often because she was a sick child. While small in physique, we all know her faith was strong. She learned about the commitment to the Catholic religion from watching her father and the sacrifices he made to get his family to mass which was twenty miles each Sunday. Eris and her mother studied the Catechism and attended confirmation class together. Eris had a soft spot in her heart for little things - babies, cute faces on cats, and the dandelion which was her favorite of all the wildflowers. She lived through the Great Depression that had a lifelong impact on her that instilled the value of "wear it out, use it up and make it do, and do without." Eris would spend her time reading rather than eat or be with people. Eris felt the closest to God when she was alone. Eris married Kenneth Lee on December 31, 1941 at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Elsie, Nebraska. They had a double marriage ceremony with Mary and Ted Heinemann. A promise Kenneth made to Eris along with his vows was that she would never have to work a day in her life for the public. Her extraordinary work ethic was without measure in her home and on the farm. Their early years were full of hardships as they would move around Imperial, Madrid, and Grant in Nebraska from abandoned farmhouse to abandoned farmhouse without running water and wall to wall beds. She never pressured Kenneth and he eventually joined the Catholic Church of his own volition which pleased her greatly and they raised their children unified in faith. Eris formed the habit of going to Sunday mass "as long as they could drag a hind leg." To make sure they never missed a Sunday Mass, they would get up early to get the chores done. After ten years of marriage, and having six children, they finally were able to build a home in Otis, Colorado with running water. During their time in Colorado, they had five more children and continued dry land farming. Dry land farming was a poor man's life so in 1967 they chose to move back to their roots in Grant, Nebraska to pursue irrigated farmland. They remained there until the passing of Kenneth in 2011. Through all the hardships in life, her Catholic faith only grew stronger. Eris' lifelong prayer was, "All for Thee, Most Sacred Heart." She would say this prayer during the labor of each child. She would also claim this truth as she grew older during taking medication, walking with her walker and in effort to take her next breath. Her parting words from this life are these three - "To love deeply, pray always, and stay close to God" "The most important thing in life is to love," and "I would like to be remembered for loving everyone." We know how much Eris celebrated each birth and baptism in her life, be it her own eleven children, twenty- one grandchildren, and all the way through her forty great-grandchildren. Loving her children was her legacy. Eris Virginia Lee  (1923-2021)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Joan Kitt, longtime resident of rural Wauneta, Nebraska passed away on Sunday evening, July 25, 2021 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Joan Thompson Kitt was born September 27, 1932, to Aaron and Fae (Conrad) Thompson in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the sixth of seven children. As an infant, Joan was hospitalized with double pneumonia and her parents were warned she was unlikely to survive. Survive she did, however, going on to live a vibrant life well into her 80’s. Joan passed from this life on July 25, 2021, at the age of 88. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;When Joan was 8 years old, her father died leaving her mother the challenge of raising the large family alone during the Great Depression and WWII years. In 1951 her mother married Duncan Cloud “D.C.” Harvey of Wauneta. When her mother moved west, Joan had remained in Iowa where she lived with her older sisters and attended high school. After completing cosmetology school, a teen-aged Joan moved to Wauneta where she had her own beauty shop. In Wauneta she met the love of her life, Ervin Kitt, an established farmer and rancher from Wauneta’s South Divide. They were married on March 23, 1952. They lived the first year of their marriage in Wauneta while their modern brick house was built on their South Divide farm where they lived from 1953-1989. There they raised their three children: Candy Jo, Denise Fae and Keenan Ervin. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Joan was a dedicated homemaker, known for her cooking, baking, picture-perfect housekeeping and flair for fashion. She was a member of the rural Mt. Zion Methodist Church where she assisted with Bible School and Sunday School. Mt. Zion later merged with Wauneta UMC where Joan was also a devoted member. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Even though she was a city girl, Joan loved farm life, growing a big garden to can and raising chickens. She looked forward to the family vacations they took every year after wheat harvest was finished as well as family time at Enders Lake and Lake McConaughy – especially boating and water skiing. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;After their family was raised, Joan and Ervin enjoyed extensive travels, making trips all across the continental United States as well as Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe. Joan especially cherished her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. She always made sure she had a well-stocked cookie jar! &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In 1989 they moved to a new home they had built along Old Highway 6 north of Wauneta where they could live overlooking their canyon pastures and enjoyed neighboring with their close friends Bob and Berneice Fanning. They enjoyed living along paved roads in their retirement years and made decades of cherished memories at their new home until Ervin’s health began to decline. Ervin died in 2009 at the age of 91. Joan determinedly remained in her rural home for the next 12 years, enjoying the stunning views and battling the deer to keep her trees and flowers thriving. Joan remained active and vital until her health began to decline earlier this year. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; her parents, Aaron and Fae Thompson; her father and mother-in-law, John J. and Mary Kitt; stepfather, D.C. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn Coral Curtis Anderson passed away on July 19, 2021 surrounded by her sons in Dallas, Texas.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marily was born in Blair, Nebraska on September 24, 1933 to Albert George &amp; Mabel Katherine (Larson) Curtis.&nbsp; She moved to Bertrand, Nebraska and later attended high school in Brady, Nebraska.&nbsp; Upon graduating in 1951, she took a job in Omaha, Nebraska working for Mutual of Omaha and modeling in her spare time. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On January 2, 1954, in Brady, Nebraska, Marilyn married the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Leo Anderson.&nbsp; In June of that same year, she joined Chuck in the Philippines where he was serving in the U.S. Navy.&nbsp; After spending 2 years abroad, they returned to North Platte where Chuck began working alongside his father at the Anheuser-Busch distributorship.&nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn took a job at Nielsen Chevrolet and later joined Ed Johanson working for his insurance and real estate business until the birth of their sons.&nbsp; After the boys started school, she joined Chuck in the family business until their retirement. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn was a member of the First Lutheran Church in North Platte; she thoroughly enjoyed many years of pinochle, gardening, walking her dog, reading and was joyfully devoted to her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include her two sons, Charles A. (Kimberly) Anderson of Dallas, Texas and Richard E. Frances Jean Reed, age 86, of Juniata, Nebraska, formally of Grant, Nebraska, passed away on July 17, 2021, at Mary Lanning Health Center in Hastings, Nebraska. Frances was born June 18, 1935, at Ogallala, Nebraska, the sixth of seven children to Floyd A. and Anna C. (Schmeidel) Kuskie. The family resided northwest of Grant, and Frances attended District #43 rural school. She graduated from Perkins County High School with the class of 1953. Frances had worked at Sullivan's Clothing before relocating to Denver, Colorado where she worked at Martin Marietta. On December 18, 1957, Frances married Jack Walker. The couple made their home in Tampa, FL, Eureka Springs, AR, Denver, CO, and Scottsdale, AZ, before settling in Fayetteville, AR, for a time. On April 27, 1978, Frances married Jim Reed. Frances and Jim lived in Missouri and Texas before residing at Springdale, AR, where Frances worked as a custodian at Lee Elementary School for 18 years before retiring. Her husband, Jim, passed away in 1998, and four years later, Frances returned to her roots and moved to Grant, Nebraska. For the past 8 years, she had been making her home in Juniata, Nebraska, where she had lived with her sister before her health required more care. Frances had a fascinating work history, having worked for companies that advanced various missile projects, including the Motorola Sidewinder and a NASA laser beam. Frances had also been part of a team that produced an eye laser used in surgeries. Frances had many hobbies, including cake decorating, painting, and making crafts. She was very active in her church, no matter where she was living. Frances was preceded in death by siblings Florence Kuskie, Chester Kuskie, Bernard Kuskie, and Verla Karsten. Survivors include two sisters: Janice Lair of Juniata, Nebraska and Joan Peterson of Haigler, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Darlene Kuskie of Grant, Nebraska; along with many nieces and nephews and their families; and her stepchildren and their families from the Springdale, AR area. Frances Jean Reed  (1935-2021)

Martha Mary (Raycher) Higgins was born in Richland, Pennsylvania on January 18, 1919 to Andrew and Martha (Mock) Raycher. Before she was three years of age they moved to Monarch, Wyoming, then to Story, Wyoming in the Spring of 1927. &nbsp;Times were tough and life was hard but good. Story was a town of between 200 to 300 people, gravel roads, no electricity, Model “T” Fords and a one-room school house. Martha’s memories centered around their grocery store, dance pavilion, water wheel to generate electricity, swimming pool, ice house, motorized ice saw to harvest ice from the swimming pool, hamburger business, soda fountain and numerous other things her father had built. At age 12 her mother died after a long illness. For High School and normal training Martha attended St Agnes Academy in Alliance Ne and graduated in 1936

In the Fall of 1936 Martha moved to the Sandhills of Nebraska and taught school at Eatingers and Brownlee for four years. During this time her good friends from high school, Lois Leta McGuire and Betty Higgins introduced her to Alfred Higgins.

Al and Martha were married on May 19, 1940 and resided on the Higgins Ranch where they raised their six children. Martha was a wonderful cook, but had once proclaimed that “I didn’t know how to boil water when I got married, but thank goodness Thelma taught me everything I needed to know about cooking!” Forty four years later Al &amp; Martha moved into Valentine where she became active in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, the Senior Center, Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club and numerous bridge clubs.

Mrs. Higgins passed away on July 22, 2021 at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, Nebraska. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred; brother John Raycher; grandson Jerry Panzer; and great grandson Ryan Higgins.

She is survived by her children: Maureen Panzer of Omaha, Tom (Lynn) of Valentine, Steve (Maria) of Lincoln, Dave (Lana) of Lincoln, Jerry (Donna) of Valentine, George (Ann) of Albuquerque NM; grandchildren: Jill (Jeb) Livingood, Jon (Jill) Panzer, Fr. Joel Panzer, Chris (PJ) Higgins, Mark (Kathy) Higgins, Jane Higgins, Paul (Jodie) Higgins, Brad (Jenny) Higgins, Debra (Casey) Stengel, Matthew, Nathen and Jeremy Higgins, Erin (Dave) Horn, Jenna (Chris) Keifer, Jake (Crystal) Higgins, Kathryn (Brad) Hisel, Jordon, Alex and Jack Higgins; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren, nephew Brian Raycher and niece Patricia (Jerry) Kreitzer

After 102 years and 6 months, God must have decided her job was done and issued her rest and eternal reward. The classy lady with beauty and intelligence will be missed, but a piece of her heart lies within each of us.

Edward J. Pryce, age 55, died Sunday July 25, 2021, at his home in Berwyn, Nebraska after his battle with ALS.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 29, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, Nebraska with Pastor Dean Millsap officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Janesville Cemetery at Berwyn, Nebraska.&nbsp; 

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. 

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM with the family greeting friends 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary.

Jerry L. Shea, age 71, of Galt, California, passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2019,&nbsp;following a brief illness. He was born January 8, 1948, in Lexington, Nebraska to Earl “Buddy”&nbsp;and Sylvia (Joines) Shea, the second of eight children. He grew up in Oconto, Nebraska and&nbsp;attended Oconto Public Schools through high school, graduating from the University of&nbsp;Nebraska - Kearney.

Jerry married Jolene Hanna on January 21, 1978. After living and working in Arkansas and&nbsp;Kentucky, they moved to Northern California in 1985, where for the majority of his career he&nbsp;worked in the wine industry, retiring in 2014. He was an avid sports fan and golfer throughout.&nbsp;his life as well as a life-long Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.

He is survived by his wife, Jolene; children, Jodie Shea Holdeman (Christopher Smith) of&nbsp;Omaha, NE, Brandon Shea of Lodi, CA, and Brie Shea of Seattle, WA; siblings Robert Shea&nbsp;and special friend Madonna McGovern of Alexandria, VA, Tom Shea of Gothenburg, NE, Jim&nbsp;Shea of Holdrege, NE, Lisa (George) Hendricksen of Cozad, NE, Amy Oxford of Broken Bow,&nbsp;NE, Bill Shea of Fremont, NE, and Sally (Paul) Schumacher of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Simon Mayorquinn-Pardo, age 68, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at his home. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He was born on June 8, 1953 in Pericos, Nayarit, Mexico to Antonio Mayorquinn and Maria De Jesus Pardo.&nbsp; At the age of 18, Simon moved to California where he harvested vegetables for area farmers. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Simon lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Texas and then settled in Lexington, Nebraska in 1994, when he started working at I.B.P. Howard D. Gauger  (1932-2021)

Twila Mary Brynoff, of North Platte, Nebraska peacefully passed away at her home&nbsp;on July 25, 2021, at the age of 88. Twila was born September 13, 1932, to Jesse and Esther Wilkinson in Vona, Colorado.&nbsp; She was the little blue-eyed girl who was added to the brood of three big brothers and grew up tough, being able to do anything the boys could.&nbsp; When Twila was three years old, the family moved to Victor, CO, where her dad worked in a gold mine but since her mom couldn't handle the altitude, they moved to Nebraska.&nbsp; They first lived in Stratton where Twila started school then the family moved to a farm near Max while she was in 8th grade.&nbsp; By the time she was in the 11th grade, Twila met the best looking guy at school, Fonce Brynoff, and they were engaged by her senior year. Twila and Fonce were married in April 1950.&nbsp; They were blessed with three children, Cindy, Bill and Ron, and 71 years of marriage.&nbsp; The Brynoffs lived in California for a while then came back to Nebraska and eventually made their home in North Platte. Over the years, Twila was involved in a lot of different jobs around town and volunteered her time whenever she could.&nbsp; She worked at Lyons IGA, the Ryan Motel, Dr. Zeigler's office, Craft State Office Building and Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; Twila spent many years volunteering at the Thrift Center, RSVP, Central Labor Council, and as a swim instructor and played and coached softball. Twila and Fonce enjoyed traveling to Europe, Alaska, Mexico and many other places.&nbsp; They also spent a lot of time volunteering together at Lincoln School where Twila was also on the PTA. Twila was well known for her amazing apple pies.&nbsp; She loved spending time in the flower and vegetable gardens, but most importantly, Twila loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law; her son, Bill; and her loving husband, Fonce. Twila Mary Brynoff  (1932-2021)

David&nbsp;James, age 83, of North Platte, died at Great Plains Health on July 25, 2021.

David was born on a farm just east of Hershey on September 6, 1937, to Guy and Mabel James. David was raised in North Platte and attended North Platte High School, graduating with the Class of '56.

David hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1957 and worked in many locations until 1970 when his job brought him back to North Platte with the opening of the new diesel shop. He continued working for the railroad until retiring as an Electrician.

David was an active member of IBEW, Eagles Aries #2839 and the Cornhusker Corvette Club.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra James; parents, Guy and Mabel James; brothers, Albert and Joe James; sister, Margaret Williams; and nephew, Ron Williams.

He is survived by his children, Richard (Bonnie) Hulse, of North Platte, Julianne (Rick) Kaiser, of Everett, WA, and David James, of Lincoln; grandkids, Jared Hulse, Rhianna (Jacob) Bowrey, Mariah Kaiser and Dane Kaiser; special friend, Nancy Maciejewski; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation was chosen and there will be no services. David will be placed in the Columbarium at the North Platte Cemetery. Barbara Andrews (1935-2021)

Peggy Jean Aden, 78, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died July 23, 2021 at her sons home in Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was born December 15, 1942 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Royal and Jean Atkinson.

Peggy married Donald Johnson in February of 1962 and they later divorced. She married Lyle Aden on October 26, 1985 at Banner United Methodist Church, Gothenburg.&nbsp;

She was a member of the Banner United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday school, Bible Study and served on many church boards during that time. Peggy was also a proud leader of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Peggy worked as a nurses aide at the Gothenburg Hospital and long term. Lyle and Peggy operated a child care program in their home for 22 years and had many children in and out of their home. Peggy also did numerous flower arrangements for weddings with the help of Lyle.&nbsp;

Peggy enjoyed camping with Lyle and one of their favorite camping trips they did was the yearly church camp out that they kept going for a number of years. Peggy always enjoyed making pancakes for everyone on Sunday morning.&nbsp;

Survivors include sons, Mike (Marci) Johnson of Gothenburg, NE, David (John) Johnson of Renton, WA, step daughter, Brenda Hayes; two step sons, Kelly Aden, Joel (Kim) Aden; brother, Dee (Joanne) Atkinson of Gothenburg, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.&nbsp;

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Aden, mother, Jean Atkinson, father, Royal Atkinson, and brother-in-law, Don Knauss.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Tuesday, July 27, 2021, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

She married Lyle Aden on October 26, 1985 at Banner United Methodist Church, Gothenburg.&nbsp;She was a member of the Banner United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday school, Bible Study and served on many church boards during that time. Peggy was also a proud leader of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Peggy worked as a nurses aide at the Gothenburg Hospital and long term. Lyle and Peggy operated a child care program in their home for 22 years and had many children in and out of their home. Peggy also did numerous flower arrangements for weddings with the help of Lyle.&nbsp;Peggy enjoyed camping with Lyle and one of their favorite camping trips they did was the yearly church camp out that they kept going for a number of years. Peggy Jean Aden (1942-2021)

Avery Grace Mendiola, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly as the result of a tragic accident at Johnson Lake at the young age of 3.

Avery was born on August 29, 2017, to parents Anthony and Maria (Garcia) Mendiola, in North Platte, Nebraska. Her family lived in North Platte until 2019, when they moved to Lexington to be closer to family.

Avery was sassy, with her infectious smile and contagious laugh. She was active, outgoing and always ready for any adventure with her family and friends. She loved going to the park, picking flowers, water painting, and singing. Her favorite song was “Sunflower” by Post Malone. Her favorite colors were pink and purple. She loved hearts, cats and anything Unicorn.

Avery was looking forward to turning four and couldn’t wait to attend school. She loved spending time with her family, especially her siblings and cousins. Avery was a Daddy’s girl, and showed those around her what it truly looks like to live and love to the fullest.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sandra Jane “Sandy” Dawson, 77 years of age, of Oxford, died on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; Sandra was born on August 9, 1943, in Oxford, the fourth of six children, born to Earl “Bill” and Grace (Bowen) Land.&nbsp; She received her education from Oxford Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1961.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On April 21, 1962, she was united in marriage to Gary Dawson at the old First Baptist Church in Oxford.&nbsp; Sandy worked at the Oxford Café prior to being blessed with five children: Raymond, Jerry, Jane, Jody, and Earl. The family made their home in Oxford, where Sandra focused on raising her children.&nbsp; In later years, Sandy worked for the State of Nebraska, helping others, and then she worked as an Avon Saleswomen, following in her mother’s footsteps.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sandra was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, and the First Baptist Church in Oxford, often times helping operate the sound board, and serving on the Christian Education Board, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and was involved with the Christmas Cantata. &nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She enjoyed the time spent with the Hustler Extension Club and the Ladies Auxiliary in Oxford.&nbsp; But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and attending their school and extracurricular activities.&nbsp; Most recently, she enjoyed experimenting with new recipes.

Sandra J. Dawson (1943-2021)

William “Bill” Franklin Coulter, age 74, of North Platte, NE passed away July 22, 2021 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE. He was born on January 18, 1947 to Gilbert and Ardella (Kennedy) Coulter in Broken Bow, NE.

Bill attended high school at Mount St. Francis Seminary for three years and graduated from Kearney Catholic High School with the class of 1965. He received a bachelor’s degree in Theology from Benedictine College in Atchinson, KS. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy from 1969-1973 as a signalman. After his discharge, he worked for vocational rehabilitation services in North Platte from 1974-1978 as a rehabilitation counselor.

At his job, Bill met his future wife Reva Cotton and they were married on June 24, 1978 in North Platte. The couple lived in North Platte and he hired on the Union Pacific Railroad in the Fruit Express department and retired in 2008.

Bill loved auctions, John Deere tractors, gardening and was a collector of many things. He loved to go camping and spend time with family. He had a love of music and sang at church with his daughter Leanna. Bill loved all genres, from classical to rock and enjoyed collecting records.

Survivors include wife Reva of North Platte; daughter, Rebecca (fiancé Jason Bennett) Coulter of West Palm Beach, FL; twin brother, Robert (Mary) Coulter of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Ed Terlaje of Guam; sisters-in law, Carolyn Anthony of North Platte and Lois Cotton of Stapleton; several other family members and many friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Leanna; sister, Shirley Terlaje; brothers, Claris and Father Larry Coulter.

William 'Bill' Coulter (1947-2021)

James Louis “Jim” Richter, 74, of Sutherland, passed away July 21, 2021 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. He was born on March 13, 1947 to George and Mary “Eileen” (Strong) Richter in Ogallala.

Jim grew up in Roscoe on the family farm. He attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Roscoe throughout grade school. Jim graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1965. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1966.

Jim met Kathryn French in high school and they were married on September 17, 1966. They were married for 38 years and to this union three sons were born, James, Michael and Andrew.

After his discharge, they moved to North Platte and he worked at Sears from 1970-1995. He met many people throughout his career there. They moved to a small farm west of Sutherland in 1972 and he resided there until his passing. After leaving Sears he went to work in sales for Karls. He then chose a different career path and went to work for Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor from 1998-2014.

In his younger years, Jim enjoyed raising cattle and working on the farm. In 1978 he was a baseball coach for his sons and they were Tri County Pony League baseball champions. He earned trap shooting awards in the 70’s. He loved his Ford 861 diesel tractor and would drive it as often as he could.

Survivors include three sons, James (Kim) Richter, Michael Richter, and Andrew Richter all of North Platte; grandchildren, Katrina (Cheyenne) Stewart of Georgia, Sean Richter of Sidney, Nathaniel Richter of Sutherland, Zachary (Johnna) Richter of Gothenburg, Alexander Richter of North Platte, Joseph Richter of North Platte; great grandchildren, Archer Stewart of Georgia, Zedric Richter of Gothenburg; brother, David Richter of Ogallala; sister, Linda Boeckemhauer; many other family members and friends.

James 'Jim' Richter (1947-2021)

Gilbert R. Hiatt, age 62 of North Platte, NE passed away on July 22, 2021, at his home. He was born on November 24, 1958, to Irving and Vivian (Cooper) Hiatt in North Platte, NE. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1977. On June 21, 1980, Gilbert married the love of his life Cathy McClellen. Through their 41 years together they were blessed with four children: Jeremiah, Michael, Jordan, and Maegan.

After graduation, Gilbert spent many years working with his family at Hiatt construction. In 1984 he decided to make a change and drove a truck for Pepsi. Several years later he was hired by Miller Brewing Co. and in 1993 he hired on at the Union Pacific Railroad and worked as an engineer until retiring in 2017.

Gilbert had a love for sports. He had a competitive spirit and enjoyed playing, watching, refereeing, and coaching his kids. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting &amp; fishing and the many stories that came with them. He also loved and took pride in his many outdoor and indoor projects including transforming two houses into homes on his acreage on Platte Valley Road.

Gilbert was a family man. His actions spoke highly on what he lived for. He was so proud watching his children grow up to become adults and achieving their goals and dreams. He also was blessed with 10 grandkids. They are each unique and have a special place in Papa’s heart. He enjoyed listening and watching all of them have fun. Ten at once was sometimes a handful, but he always encouraged there was room for more!

He is survived by his wife, Cathy; three sons, Jeremiah (Alexis) of Lincoln, NE, Michael (Brittany) of Miamisburg, Ohio, Jordan (Tara) of North Platte, NE; daughter Maegan of Lincoln, NE; his ten Grandchildren, Lily, Brody, Mason, Scarlett, Ivy, Paisley, Lulu, Jaxon, Violet, Malcolm and Arko (Grand Dog); Father, Irving P. Hiatt, his siblings, Irv (Renae) of North Platte, Vern of North Platte, Laura (Lyle) Miller of North Platte, Judy (Tim) Nowak of Menasha, WI; Mother and Father in-law Kay and Lyle McClellen of North Platte; Brother and sister in-laws, Deb (Christopher) Keith of Fountain, CO, Karen (Terry) Waite of North Platte, Roger (Pam) Mcclellen of Charleston, SC, Larry (Shana) McClellen of Lincoln, NE, John (Brenda) McClellen, Loretta (Ben) Pavelka of North Platte, Michelle (Mark) Pieper of Lincoln, NE; numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.&nbsp;

Gilbert was preceded in death by his Mother Vivian Hiatt, his grandparents Gilbert W. and Ida Hiatt, Ray Cooper and wife, Angel Baby Hiatt, nephew Brett McClellen, and many other special family members that were near and dear to his heart.&nbsp;

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with The Reverend Joshua Brown Celebrating. Burial will follow at the North Platte City Cemetery. Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Memorial book signing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
