Betty Rosina (Kaufman) McPheeters, age 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska passed away on November 14, 2020 at Cozad, NE.&nbsp; She was born March 28, 1932, the youngest child of John and Rosina Kaufman, at their farm home northwest of Cozad.&nbsp; She graduated from Cozad High School in 1949, having studied teacher training.&nbsp; Betty was a country school teacher at age 17 at Pleasant Valley Rural School southwest of Gothenburg.&nbsp; Here she began to date her future husband, Burton McPheeters, although she went on to teach two more years at two more rural Cozad schools.&nbsp; In the summers, Betty attended college at Kearney State Teachers' College and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she played lead roles in theater productions.&nbsp; After marrying, Betty attended Kansas State College while Burton served in the US Army at Ft. Riley, Kansas.

On August 31, 1952, Betty married Burton Dale McPheeters at the First Presbyterian Church of Cozad.&nbsp; Betty was Burton's beloved creative partnet in all things farm, family, and faith. Their greatest joy was their five children:&nbsp; Marcy Ann, Kay Lynnette, Britt Ira, Scott Bradford, and Julie Rose.

Growing up in Cozad, Betty was devoted to Sunday School and Youth Group.&nbsp; After Marrying, she became a member of Banner United Methodist Church where she served faithfully, often with ideas for more efficient serving of food at monthly covered dish dinners, and youth fundraising soup suppers.&nbsp; At funeral dinners, she was eager to serve families gathered to honor a loved one.&nbsp; Betty also sponsored youth group, taught adult and children's Sunday school, Bible school and missions classes, and served on many boards, including as district officer of UMW.&nbsp; She was enthusiastic about many traditions such as Christmas caroling following the evening Christmas program, and she helped establish several new traditions including a hilltop Easter sunrise service followed by a hot breakfast at the church, and church campout each August.&nbsp; Committed to Bible study, she was a founding member of Banner's Key 1973 Women's Bible Study that met regularly in homes for over 30 years.

In the community, she was a member and officer for the Open Door Club, and the County Line Home Extension Club.&nbsp; She served for decades as a 4-H leader, creating many lessons and demonstrations to pass on her passion and talent for homemaking, cooking, sewing and fashion, as well as presentations and public speaking.&nbsp; She drew caricatures for local advertising campaigns and was a prolific member of the Pony Expressionists Art Club, the Doll Makers, and the Pounce-A-Dears China Painting Club.&nbsp; She has a special interest in the local food bank, and in her later years, Betty served on the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, and as a Team Mates mentor.

She and Burton traveled throughout North America, and to Europe, the Holy Land, China, and Australia.&nbsp; Always creative, Betty toured with artist groups, painting scenes in Vienna and China.&nbsp; Burton and Betty also had a lifestyle of hospitality and frequently and generously shared their table and talents with many, hosting both relatives and foreign students for seasons on end.&nbsp; Until Alzheimer's disease made it impossible in 2010, she made gallons of chicken soup for families in need.&nbsp; Betty continued to enjoy family, friends, food and fashion, giving compliments and encouragement to others through her last decade in memory care at Stone Hearth Estates and skilled care at Emerald Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Betty is survived by her husband, Burton, their five children, 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many special nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Burton and Betty's children are Marcy (Dr. Charles E) Hill of Maitland, FL; Kay (Vernon) Robbins of Grand Island, NE; Britt (Cynthia) McPheeters of Bradenton, FL; Scott (Patricia) McPheeters of Gothenburg; and Julie (Keith) Gamble of Wellesley, MA.

Burton and Betty's grandchildren and great grandchildren are Sean (Megan) Hill and children Samuel, Jedidiah and Geneva of Seattle,WA; Charity (Grey)Leonard and children Ford and Zephyr of Dallas, TX; James (Audrey) Hill of Charlotte NE; Gabriel Robbins of Tustin, CA; Abigail (Hendrik) Stahmer and children Noah and Elizabeth of Hamburg, Germany; Benjamin Robbins of Pasadena,CA; and Sara Robbins of Omaha, NE; John&nbsp; "Jake" Mc Pheeters, Kaitlin (Will) Sparkman, and Margaret "Maggie" McPheeters, all of Birmingham, AL;&nbsp; Clark (Bryn) McPheeters and children Dior, Lux and Crew, Leigh (Ryan) Sukraw and sons Owen and Warren, Kerry (Karlie) McPheeters and son Kallen, and Holly (Caleb) Williams and son Oliver, all of Gothenburg, NE; Liam, Enya, Neev and Finn Gamble of Wellesley, MA.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Rosina Lora (Billeter) and John Henry Kaufman, her special aunt Fredericka "Reka" Billeter, her sibilings Evelyn (William Cogswell, Harold (Hazel "Tootsie") Kaufman, Marguerite (Raymond) Gronewold, Karl (Marjorie) Kaufman, Patricia (Lawrence) Block; her husband Burton's parents Margaret Pearl (Grady) and Ira David McPheeters sisters, Nina (John) Rummell, and Nola (Kenneth) Wahlgren; and an infant son Matthew Kirk McPheeters.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 25,2020, 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th Street, Gothenburg, NE

Visitation will be held Friday, November 27, 2020 at Victory Church located in Gothenburg, NE at 27th Street and Lake Avenue at 10:30 AM - 12:00 noon.&nbsp; There will be a live camera feed so attendees can speak with Burton (who will remain at his Stone Hearth apartment, due to Covid-19 Pandemic constraints) and the out of town children.&nbsp; Also, in the same spirit of care, the funeral service will be held online only, and can be viewed as a live virtual feed at 1:00 PM.&nbsp; &nbsp; Dr. Charles E. Lee R. Misterek of Elwood, Nebraska passed away Monday, November 16, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 85. Lee was born February 18, 1935 to Byron L. and Louise Emilie (Debban) Misterek on the Misterek Farm. He has two older siblings, Dean and Delores. He attended country school and then transferred to Elwood Schools to finish his education. He married Maxine Dreher and to this union he had 5 children, Steve Leroy, charlene Ann (Taun West), Shari Lynn (Jim Lueking), Brenda Mae (John Golter), and Judy Leigh (Rod Stagemeyer).

On October 17, 1981, Lee married Darlene Schwarz and 4 more children were welcomed into the family. Debra White, Kristi Jo (Scott Hueftle), Mindi (Shawn Area), and Shane (Daphne) Schwarz.

During his lifetime he worked for Bossung Farms, Bellamy Aerial Spraying as a spray pilot, Dawson County Feeders, Sperry New Holland, Vale Locker and Grocery in Vale, Oregon, which was owned by his mother, Louise and her husband, Ike Goforth.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve; wife, Darlene; and brother, Dean; sister-in-law, Etta Misterek; and brother-in-law, Eldon Houlden and mother-in-law, Doris Whiting. 

Lee is surveved by his children; sister, Delores; grandchildren, Jessica Dennis, Destinee Steinke, Trever Golter, Blair Golter, Skyler Golter, Cody Stagemeyer, Shelby Stagemeyer, Misty Bussinger, Steve White, Chris White, Bobby Hueftle, Mason Area and Morgan Area, Noah Schwartz and Thomas Schwartz; and numerous great grandchildren.

Lee was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving as an Elder. An active member of the patriot guards, past member of the Elwood Volunteer Fire Department and Johnson Lake EMS. The Elwood Fair would find him helping the Legion Club. He was always out and about on his motorcycle and socializing with his friends.

Private funeral services were held Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Wolff officiating. Private burial will be at Elwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Berryman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lee R. Misterek  (1935-2020)

Mary “Kathy” Kathleen Schroeder gained her angel wings on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 71 years young at Cozad Community Hospital in Cozad, Nebraska. Kathy was born November 15, 1949 in Santa Ana, California, the only daughter of Herbert and Charlene (Duckworth) Hargett. She was raised in California and through her younger years she was known for her free spirit and large imagination. While growing up in California, three children were born, Eric, Jason, and Tammy. Kathy gave her life to Christ in the mid 70's and was a devout Christian throughout her life. 

In the late 70's Kathy and children moved to Nebraska to be closer to her parents. A short period later Kathy was united in marriage to Randy Schroeder and one child, Molly, was born. 

In 2000, Cozad would become her permanent residence for the rest of her time. Kathy enjoyed many things and the love for her animals was one of her best qualities. From numerous cats and dogs throughout the years she cared for them all. When walking into her home or room you would find tiger/lion print everywhere. She was an avid collector of animal print. You could often find her crafting at the table in her spare time, there was not a thing she couldn’t create. Her home was always seen as comforting with decorations and sense of style inside made you feel right at home. 

Kathy's current residence was at the Emerald Care Nursing Home. She spent the remainder of her days visiting with family members and had a real knack for adult color books. 

Kathy is survived by her 4 children, Eric Dodson Jr. and Jason Dodson both of Cozad, Tammy (Robby) Linden of Kearney and Molly Schroeder of Madrid; 6 grandchildren, Angel, Matt, Amber, Abigail, Easton, and Madison; as well as 8 great grandchildren. 

Kathy was preceded in death by her mother and father Charlene Duckworth and Herbert Hargett; and her husband, Randy Schroeder. 

Thanks is given to the great care received at Cozad Community Hospital as well as a big thank you to Husker Hounds. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family in her name for later designation. 

Cremation was chosen. Graveside services were held Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery in Cozad with Harvey Pierce officiating.

Mary "Kathy" Kathleen Schroeder  (1949-2020)

George Eugene Johnson of Cozad, Nebraska passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 93. George was born September 28, 1927 to Albert and Helma (Holstrom) Johnson, the ninth child of ten. He was born in the sod house on the family farm, south of Brady, Nebraska. After his father passed away, the family moved to Brady. He graduated from Brady High School and enlisted in the US Army on September 26, 1946. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on September 29, 1949. 

On May 17, 1953, George married Dorothy Heller at the American Lutheran Church in Cozad. They raised their three daughters south of Cozad as a farming and ranching family. He enjoyed his crops and the cattle he raised. Never forgetting his childhood roaming the hills of Conroy Canyon with his siblings and helping his father with the farm work. He was a member of the VFW and American Lutheran Church.&nbsp; After Dorothy passed away in February of 2018, George remained on the farm until his death. 

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; six of his sisters; one brother; son-in-laws, John Vance, Gregg Hecox and infant great grandson, Tristan Vance-Lacy. 

Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Ron) Arnold of Papillion, Margaret Vance of Kearney and Norma Hecox of Kearney; grandchildren, Keri (Efrain) Quintanilla of Papillion, Scott (Amy) Arnold of Lincoln, Stacie (Jon) Burnett of Kearney, Kylie Vance of Kearney, and Heather Hecox of Kearney; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Gavin and Nolan Quintanilla of Papillion, Ruby, Eva and Cade Arnold of Lincoln, Uriah Vance-Lacy and Weston Burnett, both of Kearney; brother, Arnold (Ruth) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Ilene Blattner of Cozad; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George Eugene Johnson  (1927-2020)

Wanda A. Maloley, age 90, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 at her home in Lexington.

Wanda was born November 25, 1929 in Rachaya El Wadi, Lebanon to George&nbsp;and Najla Maalouli, one of nine children.

She was united in marriage to Faud Nick Maloley on March 25, 1950 in Damascus, Syria. The couple then returned to the United States where they farmed with his family near Lexington.

Wanda was a great cook and shared her creations with everyone she could. Family was of utmost importance to her, always making sure they were well taken care of. She was fond of playing games, enjoying pitch and taking trips to area casinos.

Wanda was a long-time member of the St. George Orthodox Church in Kearney where she was active in the Women’s Society for many years. She also enjoyed her time spent with the Grant Extension Club, and being a proud member of the VFW Auxiliary in Oconto, Nebraska.

Wanda is survived by her son, Jim of Lexington, daughter; Janet and husband David Bendler of Elwood, son-in-law; Greg Awtry of Michigan, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two brothers: Chaffi &nbsp;Maalouli of Rachaya El Wadi, Lebanon and Raja Maalouli of Los Angeles, California, one sister, Josephine Malek of Switzerland, brothers-in-laws; John Maloley of Lexington, Joe (Linda) Maloley of Omaha, sisters-in-law; Victoria Salem of Lexington, Margo Maloley of Omaha, Joyce Spellman of Minden as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A Trisagion Service will be held Friday, November 20, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Visitation will follow from 4-6 p.m. The service will be livestreamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

Wanda A. Maloley  (1929-2020)

Loyd M. Barnes, age 68, of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Loyd was born on January 10, 1952 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Leonard M. and Margaret (Brolyer) Barnes. When Loyd was 4, the family moved to the farm south of Lexington. He received his education from country school K-8 District #31, Elwood Public Schools, graduating from Elwood High School with the class of 1971. During high school, he worked at the Phillips 66 station in Elwood and was active in football. Loyd then spent a semester at Hastings taking classes at the Cntc Trade School.

Following his education, Loyd moved back to Elwood where he worked at the Elevator. He was united in marriage to Teresa Rowell on April 29, 1978 in Bennington, to this union a daughter, Amy was born.&nbsp; Teresa welcomed two sons from Loyd’s previous marriage. They moved to the Lexington area in 1980 where Loyd continued to drive truck before settling in Overton in 1990.

Loyd worked for several area farmers and also drove truck throughout the years for CHS, M.R.K. and W. J. Carpenter Trucking.

Loyd enjoyed spending time with his Coffee Club buddies, which took place at Sapp Brothers in Odessa, Pump and Pantry in Elm Creek or Flatwater in Overton. Loyd took pride in working, spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Gus.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa of Overton; daughter, Amy (Chad Beatty) Barnes of Overton; two sons, David (SanDee) Barnes of Kimball and Martin Barnes of Aurora, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Jared Barnes of Kimball, Zach Barnes of New Mexico, Jenny Dye of Cozad, Jade Barnes of Denver, Colorado, Chandra Barnes of Aurora, Colorado, Britany Swartz of Mitchell, and Bailee Underhill of Chadron; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lynn (Chris) Barnes of Cozad and Carl Honeywell of Portland, Oregon; one sister, Verna Honeywell of Cozad; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Verne Honeywell.

Loyd Martin Barnes  (1952-2020)

Glenn E. Horn, age 91, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born January 23, 1929, at Lomax, Nebraska, to Gerald and Velma (Garringer) Horn. He received his education from Oconto Public Schools until his 11th grade year when his family moved to Lexington and Glenn graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1948. Following his education, Glenn was inducted into the National Guards and served his country for six years as a final rank of Staff Sergeant.

On May 14, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Reddick, to this union five children were born: Jenny, Grant, Suzann, Jerry and Gale. The couple made their home in Lexington where Glenn was employed at Tenneco Monroe in Cozad and also worked at New Holland in Lexington. In 1985, Glenn started working for the Lexington Public Schools. He found his calling as a bus driver and always looked forward to interacting with the students.

Glenn and Betty were devoted members of the Lexington Evangelical Free Church. Glenn served as Vice Chairman at the church, a deacon and the church repairman. He was also a former member of the JayCees in Lexington.

Glenn enjoyed tinkering on small engines, playing pool with his buddies at the Grand Generation Center, and listening to Nebraska and UNK football games. Glenn was also very good at pitching horseshoes.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his children, Grant Horn of Lexington, Suzann and her husband, David “Chip” Burnett of Danvers, Massachusetts and Jerry and his wife, Elaine Horn of Shubert, Nebraska ; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary and wife, Kathy Horn of Elwood and two sisters, Eunice Shepherd of North Platte and Wanda Howell of Cozad; sisters-in-law, Shirley Stombaugh of Kearney and Karen Horn of Gibbon; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Besides his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by wife, Betty in 2004; a son, Gale; a daughter, Jenny; three brothers, Ronald (Jeannie), Dwight and Clifton; two sisters, Beverly (Darrell) Stark and Phyllis (Eldred) Shephard; brothers-in-law, Ike Shephard and Ronald Howell.

Celebration Of Life Graveside Services for Glenn Horn will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lexington with Pastor Rob Pearson, officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lexington with Military Honors provided by the Lexington Veterans Organization in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. Glenn Eugene Horn  (1929-2020)

Julie Ross, age 50, of Fremont, NE passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Julie was born July 13, 1970 in Omaha, NE and was immediately adopted by her loving parents Junior and Nancy Willis of Callaway, NE. Julie grew up on the family ranch north of Callaway. She loved that land and enjoyed helping her dad. Julie enjoyed babysitting and being a life guard and loved being in and near the water her whole life. Julie graduated from Callaway High School in 1989 where she had participated in volleyball, basketball, band, chorus, and cheerleading. Her passions though were both acting and the speech team. She excelled at both and received many awards.

Julie attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1993. Julie married Gene Ross on June 3, 1994. They knew each other their whole lives and were in the same class from pre-school until graduation. They lived briefly in West Point, where she worked for Goldenrod Hills in Wisner focused on their Head Start program, before moving to Fremont in 1995. She went back to school and received a Master of Social Work degree in 1996 from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Julie worked for Options Counseling and then soon went into private practice. She loved the Social Work profession and accumulated a vast library of resources as she strived to be a more effective mental health counselor and enjoyed learning new therapy techniques. She especially enjoyed working with young children. Julie put her career on hold to be a full-time mom for several years but had recently opened her practice up again.

Julie dedicated her life to serving others. Anyone who met her knew she was a loving and compassionate woman. She had a judgement-free mind that accepted everyone. She truly saw the best in every person and loved helping others. She touched the hearts of many people through her actions and kind words. She loved being a mom and focused much time towards her two boys and supported them in any way she could. Julie enjoyed cooking, party/vacation planning, entertaining and always had several craft and home remodel projects going at once.

Julie developed a great love of her Lord and the Catholic Church from her mother. Julie was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway and St. Patrick Catholic Church of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her father Junior Willis and father-in-law, Gary Ross.

Survivors include her loving husband of 26 years, Gene; two sons, Jacob of Fremont and Jackson who is attending Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS; her mother Nancy Willis of Callaway; brother Jeff Willis of Callaway; mother-in-law, Vivian Ross of Callaway; brothers-in-law, Vaughn (Stephanie) Ross of Callaway and Rodney (Mary) Ross of Callaway; 4 nephews and 4 nieces.

Her children rise up and praise her: her husband, too, extols her:

“Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all.”

Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Julie Ross  (1970-2020)

Donna Jeanne Jesch of Stratton, Nebraska, passed away at the Country House in Kearney, Nebraska on November 17, 2020.

Donna wrote her autobiography and we will put a few quotes from that in this obituary. “First of all I was born.&nbsp; That happened in July of 1926.&nbsp; The 18th&nbsp;to be exact.&nbsp; Now isn’t that interesting?&nbsp; OK, so that’s no big deal.&nbsp; How about this!&nbsp; I was born on Daddy’s 33rd&nbsp;birthday.&nbsp; I don’t remember much about that because I was pretty young at that time.”

Donna was born to Clarence and Ora (Miles) Richards on a farm northeast of Stratton.&nbsp; She was the 3rd&nbsp;of 7 sisters.&nbsp; They moved to Stratton at a young age, where they built a new house in 1931. This two-bedroom house was home to a family of 9.&nbsp;

“Yes we were raised during the great depression and I suppose we were poor, but I didn’t know that at the time.&nbsp; Our bathtub was a portable one.&nbsp; It was brought out and placed on the kitchen floor after supper.&nbsp; We girls probably washed in the same water! &nbsp;We were clean enough.”

Donna attended Stratton High School where she graduated in 1943.&nbsp; Bud Jesch and Donna were cast opposite each other in the junior class play.&nbsp; That’s when the spark was lit.&nbsp; Donna and Bud were in the same class and graduated together.

&nbsp;Donna worked at the Farmers Grocery Store during high school and then traveled to Denver after high school where she worked as a secretary for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company.&nbsp; She also worked for the Hitchcock County Attorney in Trenton for ten years after she was married.

On December 28, 1946 she married Eugene “Bud” Jesch at the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; She and Bud raised five children on the farm east of Stratton.&nbsp; In 1978 they built a new home in Stratton and moved to the big city.

Donna enjoyed gardening and baking.&nbsp; She was famous for her pumpkin bars and crescent rolls which she made for every holiday gathering.&nbsp; That tradition is carried on by her grandchildren.&nbsp; She also researched family genealogy and was instrumental in the research and production of the Hitchcock County History Book 1873-1989.&nbsp; Donna was the secretary and treasurer of the Fanshaw Bay Naval Reunions.

Bud and Donna traveled to many cities for the Fanshaw Bay Reunions from the mid 80 until 2019. Donna was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.&nbsp; She was also involved in the St Joseph’s Alter Society, the ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary, the church choir, and other choir productions in Stratton. She sang acapella with her sisters and was always singing around the house to classical music. She had a beautiful voice.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Ora Richards and her father and mother- in -law, August and Eleanor Jesch, husbands-Eugene “Bud”- &nbsp;2 grandsons-Travis Jesch and Patrick Valdez, 3 sisters and their husbands, Shirley and Neal Hudson, Vivian and Richard Pierce, Wilva and Gene Harchelroad and 2 brothers-in-law Bill Carroll and Keith Birks.

Donna is survived by 5 children: Vicki Brown of North Platte,&nbsp; Geoffrey Jesch of North Platte, Douglas (Deb) Jesch of Kearney, Nebraska, Monica (Paul) Valdez of Parker, Colorado, Bradley (Tami Jo) Jesch of Stratton, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 3 sisters: Eula Carroll of Hutchison, Kansas, Dorothy Birks of Hull, Iowa ,and Beverly (Neil) Dailey of Las Cruses, New Mexico, 2 brothers-in-law, Ramon Jesch of Boulder, Colorado and Gilbert Jesch of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and many nieces and nephews.

Donna Jeanne Jesch  (1926-2020)

James M. Timmons, age 67, of Lebanon, Nebraska, passed away November 16, 2020 at his home in Lebanon after a battle with esophageal cancer.  He was born on September 14, 1953 to Glen and Doris (Glenn) Timmons in Imperial, Nebraska.  The family moved to Colorado when Jim was young where he attended school in the Arvada area and graduated from Arvada West High School.

Jim met Laurie in 1993 and the two would spend the rest of his life together.  They were married at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Golden, Colorado.  Jim, Laurie, and daughter, Nicole made their home in Arvada where he worked hard to support his family.  Jim’s father taught him to camp, hunt, and fish which Jim was passing on to Nicole and grandson Jaxon.  Teaching Jaxon became his greatest pleasure.  Jim looked forward to the yearly hunting trip to share the fellowship of his friends and enjoy the outdoors.  He also took a lot of pleasure in being an Arvada Reservoir ranger like his father was.  He was always quick to volunteer his help for his game warden friend, Mike.  On one occasion they saved an eagle that was hit by a car.

Jim’s father also passed on his love of baseball.  Jim loved to watch, play, and for a couple of years Jim coached a softball team.  Jim was proud of that team and referred to them as "his girls". 

Jim enjoyed motorcycles, riding with the annual MDA Run to Sturgis for five years.  He and Laurie retired to Lebanon in 2016 where they started restoring a house built around 1880.  Jim was a strong man of few words and deep feelings. He liked people, loved his family deeply, and respected the people he called friends.  His strong feelings of love extended to animals.

Survivors include his wife, Laurie of Lebanon; daughter, Nicole Fox and grandson, Jaxon Fox of North Glenn, Colorado; sister, Kathy Berkowitz of Denver, Colorado; sister, Alice (Roger) Cain of Loveland, Colorado; brother-in-law, Mike Murray of Lebanon; and sisters-in-law, Jill (Kip) Funk of Arvada, Colorado and Jana Kelly of Federal Heights, Colorado

Cremation was chosen and a celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.  Jim's ashes are to be spread on the mountain where his parent’s ashes were spread, on the land of his hunting area by friend, Denny, and at Trappers Lake by friend, Mike. James M. "Jim" Timmons  (1953-2020)

Albert Cuellar, age 82, a longtime resident of McCook, Nebraska passed away November 13, 2020 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was born February 22, 1938 to Macedonio and Tranquilina (Luevano) Cuellar in McCook.&nbsp; &nbsp;He attended McCook Schools and graduated from McCook High School in 1956.&nbsp; &nbsp;Albert graduated from McCook Junior College (MCC) in 1958 and from Kearney State College (UNK) in 1962.&nbsp; He taught for two years in country school south of Trenton and south of McCook. &nbsp;After graduating from Kearney, he taught for three years at Culbertson Public Schools and 11 years at Elm Creek Public School before returning to McCook to teach at McCook Junior High for 22 years.

In his 38 years of teaching, Albert taught European History, American History, World Geography, Math, Art, Language Arts, and Spanish.&nbsp; He sponsored the Junior Class, Senior Class, Student Council (22 years), Pep Club, National Honor Society, and the Annual Staff.&nbsp; Albert also coached Volleyball for 22 years, helped with the Boy Scouts, kept stats for football, scored and timed for basketball, and worked track meets.

Cuellar was president of the Elm Creek-Overton Education Association and the McCook Education Association for five years. &nbsp;He was also negotiator for the MEA, attended national conventions for MEA and the Student Council.&nbsp; In 1980, he was appointed by Governor J. James Exon as a Commissioner to the Mexican American Commission. &nbsp;He served as the assistant editor for the Bison Alumni Newsletter since 1995 and as President of the McCook Educational Foundation Inc. since 1999.

In his retirement, he was active with the Bison Alumni Newsletter, and the McCook Educational Foundation. &nbsp;He used the YMCA as often as possible. &nbsp;Albert loved to travel, going to Europe, Mexico, and his favorite city, Las Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Pete, Joe, Manuel, and John; sisters: Josephine, Margaret, Veda, and Delores.

He is survived by brothers, Frank of Omaha, NE and Richard of Nehalem, OR; and sister, Juanita Bittner of Harvey IL.

Albert Cuellar  (1938-2020)

Anita Catherine was born at her home in Bartley, NE on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1934 to Pearl (Rayer) and Melvin Sides. She was welcomed to this world by sister, Mildred; brother, Eldon and extended family who had planned to attend the Thanksgiving holiday at Pearl and Melvin’s. Her 6:20 a.m. birth welcomed the guests with the greatest gift of all - a new family member. According to Anita’s records, the meal went off without a hitch, with a tiny, unannounced, additional guest who crashed the party. &nbsp;

Anita’s lifelong dream was to be a mom and a teacher.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her dream of being a teacher was cultivated at a young age when she was often called in from her senior classes to teach the junior high students when they needed a substitute.&nbsp; This dream was modified when she met her future husband of 54 years, William (Bill) Martin Conroy, during her first year of college. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The couple met in Indianola and Bill admitted to creating reasons to go to Indianola in hopes of “accidental” meetings. He was her first “real” date. Playing cards with friends and going to movies in McCook were their favorite things to do together. Anita said she was “hooked” right away.&nbsp; And it must have been mutual. Bill and Anita met in February, were engaged in March and married June 2, 1953. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Anita’s legacy as a wife was her unwavering support of her husband over the years. Farm wife, Conroy and Sons Machine Shop, and ABC Log Furniture were Bill’s dreams that Anita cultivated with him.&nbsp; Bill was the first to give credit to Anita as she worked tirelessly in front of and behind the scenes so his dreams might be realized. Farming, businesses, caregiver to the end. A more loyal partner could not be found. &nbsp;

Anita’s dream of being a mom was realized when her six children, Geri, Steve, Marty, Jim, Lisa and Mari Jo were born over a seven-year time span.&nbsp; She loved her kids and embraced the challenges of six kids under the age of seven with a farmer husband. In her words, “We had a lot of very special memories. Some good. A few bad. But life treated us well in so many ways with healthy kids and very few accidents and illnesses.” Bill and Anita raised their six kids on a farm near Bartley for 16 years before moving to the Republican Valley area. Their final home together was in McCook where they lived out their remaining years together until Bill’s death in 2007.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Anita’s dream of being a mom was magnified when 32 grandchildren and great grandchildren joined the family over the years. &nbsp;

And maybe, just maybe, her dream of being a teacher snuck itself right in the middle of being a mom. It just looked a little different.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Anita was the best at sending cards for every occasion. A sentiment her children did not take for granted, (but they also did not carry on from her legacy). Anita was also the best at commemorating important events through the scrapbooks she kept and handed down.&nbsp;

Anita loved her family. &nbsp;Her final message to her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids?&nbsp; “Keep up the good work. Have faith, love and help others.”&nbsp;

And her greatest life accomplishments in her words, “I was married for 54 years and I took care of Dad for his last few years. My kids are all good, decent citizens and family people. That’s the best a mom can hope for.”&nbsp;

Wife of a farmer, Mother of six, “I became a mom and I hope I was a good one. I wanted to be.”&nbsp;

Anita’s dream, “To be a teacher and a mom.” was certainly accomplished over the years. It just looked a little different than she envisioned.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was a teacher with a better title. That title was Mom.&nbsp; Well done, Anita. &nbsp;Your dreams have served you well.&nbsp;

Anita was a member of St. Catherine’s Alter Society, St. Patrick’s Church, Extension Club, Republican Valley Mother’s Club, a poll worker and active member of her Indianola High School Alumni Association for many years. &nbsp;

According to Anita’s records, the meal went off without a hitch, with a tiny, unannounced, additional guest who crashed the party. &nbsp;Anita’s lifelong dream was to be a mom and a teacher.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her dream of being a teacher was cultivated at a young age when she was often called in from her senior classes to teach the junior high students when they needed a substitute.&nbsp; This dream was modified when she met her future husband of 54 years, William (Bill) Martin Conroy, during her first year of college. &nbsp;&nbsp;The couple met in Indianola and Bill admitted to creating reasons to go to Indianola in hopes of “accidental” meetings. He was her first “real” date. Playing cards with friends and going to movies in McCook were their favorite things to do together. Anita said she was “hooked” right away.&nbsp; And it must have been mutual. Bill and Anita met in February, were engaged in March and married June 2, 1953. &nbsp;&nbsp;Anita’s legacy as a wife was her unwavering support of her husband over the years. Farm wife, Conroy and Sons Machine Shop, and ABC Log Furniture were Bill’s dreams that Anita cultivated with him.&nbsp; Bill was the first to give credit to Anita as she worked tirelessly in front of and behind the scenes so his dreams might be realized. Farming, businesses, caregiver to the end. A more loyal partner could not be found. &nbsp;Anita’s dream of being a mom was realized when her six children, Geri, Steve, Marty, Jim, Lisa and Mari Jo were born over a seven-year time span.&nbsp; She loved her kids and embraced the challenges of six kids under the age of seven with a farmer husband. In her words, “We had a lot of very special memories. Some good. A few bad. But life treated us well in so many ways with healthy kids and very few accidents and illnesses.” Bill and Anita raised their six kids on a farm near Bartley for 16 years before moving to the Republican Valley area. Their final home together was in McCook where they lived out their remaining years together until Bill’s death in 2007.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Anita’s dream of being a mom was magnified when 32 grandchildren and great grandchildren joined the family over the years. &nbsp;And maybe, just maybe, her dream of being a teacher snuck itself right in the middle of being a mom. It just looked a little different.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Anita was the best at sending cards for every occasion. A sentiment her children did not take for granted, (but they also did not carry on from her legacy). Anita was also the best at commemorating important events through the scrapbooks she kept and handed down.&nbsp;Anita loved her family. &nbsp;Her final message to her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids?&nbsp; “Keep up the good work. Have faith, love and help others.”&nbsp;And her greatest life accomplishments in her words, “I was married for 54 years and I took care of Dad for his last few years. My kids are all good, decent citizens and family people. That’s the best a mom can hope for.”&nbsp;Wife of a farmer, Mother of six, “I became a mom and I hope I was a good one. I wanted to be.”&nbsp;Grandma and great grandma to many.&nbsp;Anita’s dream, “To be a teacher and a mom.” was certainly accomplished over the years. It just looked a little different than she envisioned.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was a teacher with a better title. That title was Mom.&nbsp; Well done, Anita. &nbsp;Your dreams have served you well.&nbsp;Anita was a member of St. Catherine’s Alter Society, St. Patrick’s Church, Extension Club, Republican Valley Mother’s Club, a poll worker and active member of her Indianola High School Alumni Association for many years. &nbsp;Anita is survived by her six children: Geri and Bob Burns of McCook, Steve and Sharon Conroy of Indianola, Marty and Joyce Conroy of McCook, Jim and Kim Conroy of Papillion, Lisa and Craig Hendricks of Omaha, and Mari Jo and Sean Mulligan of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Sides of Indianola. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Thomas and Melvin Sides; brother Eldon Sides of Indianola, sister and brother-in-law Millie and Andy Waselus and great grand-daughter Briella Faith Quaduor. &nbsp;

Anita Catherine (Sides) Conroy  (1934-2020)

Larry “Woody” Wood, age 80, a longtime resident of McCook, Nebraska passed away November 12, 2020 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was born in Indianola, Nebraska on October 3, 1940, the second born child to Dean L. and Georgia M. (Seals) Wood.&nbsp; Larry attended grade school at North Star in Frontier County and also in Stockville, Nebraska.&nbsp; He attended Stockville High School for two years before attending Bartley High School in Bartley, Nebraska where he graduated with the class of 1959.

After graduating, Larry moved to McCook, Nebraska where he went to work for State Side Standard Service, K. Don Coburn.&nbsp; He worked at the gas station in McCook for six years.&nbsp; On October 29, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to Mary Ann Beneda at the First Baptist Church in McCook and on September 4, 1962 they welcomed their only child, Penney Ann Wood.&nbsp; In December of 1965, Woody went to work for McCook Public Power District Rea as a lineman.&nbsp; He worked for the &nbsp;district for 29 ½ years before taking a buyout on May 1, 1994 when he retired.

Larry was a member of the National Rifle Association for years.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, wood working, and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1986; father in 1989; daughter, Penney Ann in 1992; and a brother-in-law, Bill Weiss in 2019.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of McCook; sister Connie Weiss of McCook; brother-in-law, Owen Beneda and wife, Lois Jane of McCook; two nephews; one niece; and many friends.

Larry "Woody" Wood  (1940-2020)

Hannah Hageman, age 97, of Cambridge, Nebraska, passed away at the Sarah Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, Nebraska. She was born in Holbrook, NE on May 1, 1923 to Charles and Mary Frances (Neel) Odell. She moved to Cambridge when she was in the third grade.

On July 17, 1940, she married Frances “George” B. Marts in Norton, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union three children were born:&nbsp; Jimmy Lee, Mary Francine, and Robert Allen.&nbsp; She and George farmed north of Bartley, before moving into town in 1959.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on November 9, 1971. She later married Roy Hageman on October 31, 1975, adding Roy’s children to the family:&nbsp; Robert, Sheila, and Jeff. Roy preceded her in death on June 25, 2003.

Hannah worked side by side in Roy’s construction business.&nbsp; Together they built the round houses west of Cambridge. Hannah moved to McCook, NE in 2011 to Highland Park and in 2019 to the Sarah Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.

Hannah loved to cook, make jellies, play cards, embroider, and spend time with family. She bartended and cooked at The Rocket Inn of Indianola, NE.&nbsp; She and her cousin, Eva, would go fishing around the area together, and Hannah, not being bashful, would move right next to whoever was catching fish. She had an infectious smile and laugh. &nbsp;She and Roy traveled throughout the continental United States, making their way to all 50 states in their motor home. The couple took many trips to Europe, seeing sites in Italy, Spain, England, and Ireland.

Hannah was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary; husbands, George and Roy; son, Jimmy Lee; grandson, Christopher; sister, Lottie Rogers; five brothers, George, Frank, Sam, Jim, Harold.

Hannah is survived by her son, Robert and wife, Tina Marts of Bartley; daughter, Frani and husband, Jerry Chambers of McCook; two step-sons, Bob Hageman and wife, Linda Hageman of Colorado, Jeff Hageman of Omaha; step-daughter, Sheila and husband, Kenny Colson of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-children; 4 great great-grandchildren.

Marilyn Louise Lutz  (1936-2020)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Janice Louise DeWester was born July 17, 1944, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Everett and Louise (Hardwick) Stamm and departed this life on November 14, 2020, from her home in Wauneta, Nebraska, at the age of 76. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jan was raised on a farm 12 miles northwest of Benkelman and attended District 36, a one room schoolhouse through the 8th grade. She boarded in town during her high school years and graduated from Benkelman High School in 1962. She went on to attend her first year of college at Colorado State in Greeley, Colorado. She transferred to Chadron State College the following year. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On December 14, 1963, she married Gary Lynn DeWester. To this union were born Kimberly Lynn (stillborn), Michelle Louise, Teresa Lynn, and Chad Everett. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The couple remained in Chadron until Gary graduated from college. They moved to Ruskin, Nebraska, where they started their family. During their time in Ruskin they made many wonderful friendships that have lasted for years. In 1974 Gary and Jan moved to Wauneta, Nebraska, where she permanently resided. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jan gave her life to Jesus as a young girl attending summer Bible School at the Pleasant Valley Church a couple miles northeast of her home. Later in life she was baptized in the Frenchman river west of Wauneta. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Love for her family was first place to everything she did. She raised her kids to love Jesus and encouraged them to live their faith every day. She was caring, kind and encouraging, always reflecting the light of hope that was within her. In word and deed she honored the Lord, and leaves that legacy to her kids and grandkids. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jan passed away Saturday morning, November 14, 2020, at her home in Wauneta, surrounded by her family. Janice Louise DeWester  (1944-2020)

Merlene Grint&nbsp; (1925-2020),&nbsp;Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great Great Grandmother, she loved life to the fullest.

Merlene Pullian Grint, age 95, passed away November 16, 2020, at the Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Merlene was born August 6, 1925, to Floyd and Sadie (Lundy) Pulliam. She grew up on a farmstead west of Sargent, NE (Cummings Park). She attended grade school at a country school near the Cummings Park area and later attended high school in Sargent and graduated in 1942. After graduation she attended a business college in Grand Island where she later did office work. 

Merlene married Norman Grint in May 1945. They made their home on a farmstead East of Sargent where they started farming and had a few milk cows. While on the farm they had two sons, John Edmond, and Richard Duane. Soon after the boys were born, they moved to town and purchased the Sun Theater owned by John Green. They then bought and opened a clothing store, the Fashion Nook, which after several years burned down. This resulted in closing the theater and moving the clothing store to the theater location, which remained there until they sold in 1984. During the late 70's she bought and moved the florist shop and opened and ran floral/gift shop for 6 years. During their time in town, in 1965, Norman and Merlene had a daughter, JoLynn.

Merlene retired in 1984. She enjoyed her retirement years, following her grandkids through 4H, rodeos, and sporting events. Norman and Merlene wintered in Arizona for 24 years and made life-long friends.

Merlene was a member of United Methodist Women’s Group, American Auxiliary, and card club. She thoroughly enjoyed her morning coffee club visiting with friends.

Merlene was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Sadie Pulliam, brother Reed and wife Virginia, and nephew Ron Pulliam. 

Survivors include sons John and Sheri Grint (Chadron), Dick and Coleen Grint (Sargent), daughter JoLynn and Brian Jones (Mason City), 12 grandchildren, 26 Great grandchildren, and one Great great grandchild.

Memorial service will be at a later date.

Merlene Grint  (1925-2020)

Edward J Schulte II, age 54 of Ansley, Nebraska left his earthly body November 15, 2020 at Broken Bow, NE. Ed was born February 11, 1966 in Grand Island, NE to Edward J. and Bernice (Holland) Schulte. He resided in Hastings and Grand Island, NE until the age of 6 when his family moved to Ansley, NE where he attended school and lived the rest of his adult life. His first job was at the Calamus Dam. On April 15, 1989 he married Kimberly Thompson. Edward brought one son, Louis Keezer, to the marriage &amp; Kimberly brought one son, Joshua Thompson. Together they had 2 children. Son, Joel Edward and daughter, Brittney Bernice.

Throughout his life he has worked for Art Anderson Hay Company, Sargent Pipe Company and went on to own his own appliance business in Ansley. His most rewarding position was being a truck driver during most of his married life. He made a lot of lifelong relationships being out on the road. Every time he and Kimberly traveled, they had to eat at truck stops and he would never go without stopping at “Shoemaker’s” in Lincoln, NE. The last 3 years he worked for Trotter’s Fertilizer in Ansley.

He loved hunting, trapping, and fishing and so wanted to go with his grandson, Jaxon this year. He was a well-known jokester and enjoyed his daily pranks with the ladies at “Custer’s Last Stop” in Ansley. He spooked ever so easy which made it so much more fun. Ed found a new passion for knife smithing. Ed enjoyed talking and learning about making knives. He was always the one to know just how to push Kim’s buttons and although he always had to get the “win” she loved him dearly for it. She even jokes that his passing in the early morning hours was so he would “win” one last time.

He was a wonderful, husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind to mourn him, wife Kimberly of Ansley, NE, sons Joshua and Kinley Thompson of Windsor, CO, Louis and Lisa Keezer of Oshkosh, NE,&nbsp; Joel Schulte and his fiancée Melissa Johnstone of Ansley, NE, and daughter, Brittney and Megan Cassidy of Kearney, NE. Grandchildren Alyssa, Landon, Selena, Jaxon, Charlie, David, and Cylas.

Ed had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and wanted everyone to have the same Blessed Assurance he had. He was not afraid to talk to anyone about his faith and pray with you at any time. Now he is dancing with God on his own cloud and we will be together again someday. Forever in Christ!

Graveside service will be Friday, November 20, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Ansley Cemetery Ansley, NE with J.J. White officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 19th&nbsp;from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm with family greeting 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE. Edward J. Schulte, II  (1966-2020)

On Saturday, November 14, 2020, Robert (Bob) Ray Schall of Broken Bow, NE passed away on his birthday, at the age of 84.&nbsp; Bob was born November 14, 1936 in Mason City, NE. to Jim and Olive (Crosley) Schall. He was the sixth child out of nine children. &nbsp;Bob graduated from Mason City High School in 1954 and joined the army in 1955 serving for two years active duty.

Bob was self-employed as a contractor for most of his life.&nbsp; He owned and operated a carpet and flooring store in Broken Bow, NE. for five years. Bob was well known in the Broken Bow area for his carpentry skills and has worked in many homes throughout the region.&nbsp; Bob loved to work and had a hard time saying no to people needing something done. He was still working the month before he passed away.

Bob was well known as a good-natured practical joker and many people in the area, and Bob himself, have been on the receiving end of those funnier moments in his life. He loved to fish and spent a lot of time at local lakes, and lake Michigan, fishing for salmon. He was a lifelong Husker fan and rarely missed a game. Bob was very interested in politics as a rare Nebraska Democrat and enjoyed lively conversations at the Tumbleweed Café.&nbsp; As an animal lover, he and Sandy rescued several dogs over the years.

Bob married and moved to Broken Bow in 1964 and had three children Tammy, Jackie, &amp; Sandy.&nbsp;

Bob married Sandy Sittler on September 1, 1979 and adopted her son Jeff. After three girls, he was excited to welcome a son into his life. &nbsp;Bob was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 41 years.

Family and friends could always count on Bob and his gentle kindness. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always had a joke or game for the kids.&nbsp; Bob was known to the grandkids as a very active grandpa who water skied into his seventies and loved to mischievously challenge them to board and card games.&nbsp;

Bob is survived by his wife Sandy of Broken Bow, four children Tammy (Casey) Turnbull of Knoxville, IA., Jackie (Doug) Caldwell of Overland Park, KS., Sandy Rapp of Overland Park, KS. &amp; Jeff (Holly) Schall of Trophy Club, TX.&nbsp; &nbsp;He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Nathan, Nicole, Natasha, Molly, Jake, Sam, Beck, Carsen, Stella and eleven great grandchildren.
