&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;James Dennis Jobman, age 76, of Gothenburg, Nebraska died on June 29, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hosptial in Kearney, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He was born on February 5, 1944 in Gothenburg, Nebraska, son of Walter Leo and Ada Hope (Wustrack) Jobman.&nbsp; James grew up in the Gothenburg area and graduated from Gothenburg High with the class of 1962.&nbsp; He joined ROTC while enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and was a Distinguished Military Graduate.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army as an officer from 1968-1970 including time served in Korea.&nbsp; After his discharge, he was active in the reserves until December 1973.&nbsp; James married Patricia Johnston on March 22, 1969 at Ft. James Dennis Jobman  (1944 - 2020)

Alice F. Berry, age 93, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away, Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Alice was born on December 11, 1926 to John and Mary (Daubendick) Steinke on a farm in Perkins County.&nbsp; She grew up and attended school in Perkins County.&nbsp;

In 1944 Alice attended Hastings Beauty School, then after getting her cosmetology license, she went to work in Curtis, Nebraska.&nbsp; She went to work for Hazel Kilgore's Beauty Shop in January 1946.&nbsp;

On August 5, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert VandeVoorde at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala.&nbsp; In April 1952 she bought Alice Hackbarth's beauty shop and operated it as Alice's Beauty Shop and Alice's Powder Puff until 1972, when she sold the shop to Judy Schultz. Robert passed away in October 1969.&nbsp;

Alice married John K. Berry in Ogallala in December of 1970. He passed away in December of 1999.&nbsp; Alice and John lived between Ogallala and the ranch at Lemoyne until his health began to fail. She made her home in Ogallala after that.&nbsp;

Alice was active in Ogallala Hairdresser's when she had her shop.&nbsp; She has been a member of St. Luke's Alter Society, being active on the funeral committee.&nbsp; She was also a member of the Nebraska Cattle Women, RSVP, and is a past member of the Nebraska Quarter Horse Association.&nbsp; She also enjoyed volunteering at the Kenfield Gallery.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; and her parents.&nbsp;

Alice is survived by two nephews; Kevin (Hilary) Steinke, of Chicago, IL; Scott (Lia) Steinke, of Washington D.C.; two stepsons; Charles (Alberta) Berry; Gerald (Kathie) Berry, all of Lemoyne; one sister-in-law, Arlene Steinke, of Hickory Hills, IL; three step-grandchildren; Calvin Berry, of Lemoyne; Tammy (John) Rothwell, of Hyannis, NE; Barbara Torres, of Ogallala; nine step-grandchildren; and numerous friends and neighbors she loved so much.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala.

A rosary will be recited, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala.&nbsp;

Meredith Corrine (Furry) Keep, age 83, of Arapahoe, formerly of Elm Creek, passed away on Sunday, June&nbsp;28, 2020 at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center Nursing Home due to multiple myeloma. 

She was born on Good Friday, March 26, 1937 to H. Glen and Harriette Winterton (Pickering) Furry at the Widney Hospital in&nbsp;Lexington, Nebraska.

She lived on a farm east of Lexington until age 9 when the family moved to a farm southeast of Overton, Nebraska&nbsp;in the Williamsburg Community. She attended rural school (Horseshoe Bend) in Dawson and Phelps County and&nbsp;graduated in 1954 from Loomis High School, Loomis, Nebraska. She attended summer school at Kearney State&nbsp;Teachers College for 3 summers and taught rural school for 2 years in Gosper County before entering nurse's&nbsp;training. She graduated from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. As an RN, she had worked&nbsp;at Lincoln General Hospital, Lexington Community Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. The last&nbsp;job lasted 33.5 years until she retired in 1999.

She was married to Charles Burton Keep on November 29, 1959, at Overton.&nbsp; To this union, 4 children were&nbsp;born. They divorced in November of 1999.

Throughout the years, her interests included quilting, gardening, researching family genealogy with her mother&nbsp;and sisters, and frequent DQ and KFC visits. She was a member of the Elm Creek United Methodist Church and&nbsp;Garden Club.

She leaves behind sons, Chuck and wife Becky, of Columbus, Nebraska; Willie and wife Barb, of Elm Creek,&nbsp;Nebraska; daughter Jenny Spaulding and husband Jeff, of Arapahoe, Nebraska. And two special companions:&nbsp;Frank and George. She has 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters, Edie&nbsp;Zetterman of Lexington, Nebraska and Jean Stahla, husband Phil, of Gillette, Wyoming. 

A stillborn son, Jeffrey&nbsp;F. preceded her in death.

Meredith chose cremation and a memorial service will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are&nbsp;suggested to the Elm Creek United Methodist Church, Elm Creek Food Pantry, Kearney Safe Center, Elm Creek&nbsp;Driver's Education or Elm Creek Fire and Rescue for the purchase of a patient sling to get people up off the floor.

Eugene Walter Urbom, 95 years of age, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington, Nebraska.&nbsp; Eugene was born on February 22, 1925 at Atlanta, Nebraska, the youngest of five children born to Adolf Walter and Ethel Bell (Johnston) Urbom.&nbsp; &nbsp;He received his primary education from Graft Rural School and then Mascot Public Schools in Mascot, Nebraska until the 10th&nbsp;grade.&nbsp; Eugene then attended Huntley High School, and graduated with the class of 1943.

Following his education, Eugene enlisted into the United States Army in October of 1948 and served until his honorable discharge in December of 1949, serving during Peacetime.&nbsp; He then served in the Army National Guard until 1961.

On February 4, 1951, Eugene was united in marriage to Mildred Grace Newton at Axtell, Nebraska and to this union four children were born: Louis, Yvonne, Brian and Audrey.&nbsp; Throughout the years, the family made their home in Holdrege, and Cozad, where Eugene worked as: &nbsp;a mechanic, a sales representative, and then the store manager at Big A (American Parts Company) in Red Cloud, Nebraska and Lexington.&nbsp; The couple then settled and enjoyed retirement in Overton.&nbsp; During their retirement years, they enjoyed road trips to photograph each United Methodist Church in the conference. &nbsp;In 2018, he was preceded in death by Mildred.

&nbsp;Eugene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington.&nbsp; He enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in his garden, especially his tomato plants.

&nbsp;Besides his wife and his parents; he was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his brother, James Urbom and his wife, Elaine; three sisters: Arlene Wehland and her husband, Roy; Blanche Renken and her husband, Hilbert; and Faye Peterson and her husband, Willard; two brothers-in-law: Frank Schultz and his wife, Nova; and Bob Newton and his wife, Cecilia; three sisters-in-law: Mary Harvey and her husband, Bill; and Catherine Cornell and her husband, Lee; step-sister-in-law, Madge Johnson and her husband, Burdette; and two step-brothers-in-law, Roy Jackson and his wife, Violet; and Elgin Jackson and his wife, Arlene.

Eugene leaves to celebrate his life; his four children: Louis Urbom of Overton; Yvonne Tuton and her husband, David of Hope Mills, North Carolina; Brian Urbom and his wife, Carole of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Audrey Riebschlager and her husband, Ben of Overton; five grandsons: Cory, Christopher, and Kevin Tuton; Andrew Urbom; and Wyatt Riebschlager; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is honoring his wish for cremation.&nbsp;

Eugene Walter Urbom (1925-2020)

Anne Boyd Bennett, 78 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at the CHI Health - Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; Anne was born July 5, 1941, at Yonkers, New York, the only child to Harry and Elizabeth (Boyd) Bernsohn.&nbsp; She received her primary education from Yonkers, New York Public Schools and then graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers with the class of 1959.&nbsp; Anne then pursued higher education attending the Berkeley Secretarial School in Manhattan, New York.&nbsp; She was then employed by Sky Chefs in Manhattan, where she met the love of her life, Vincent Bennett.

The couple were united in marriage on June 15, 1963, at Yonkers and to this union three daughters were born:&nbsp; Stephanie Anne, Christine Anne, and Patricia Anne.&nbsp; The family made their home in Manalapan, New Jersey for the next 38 years.&nbsp; Anne focused her efforts on raising the girls, and caring for their home.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Anne was baptized in the First Methodist Church in Yonkers, and in New Jersey the couple were members of the St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church.&nbsp; In 2006, following retirement the couple relocated to Holdrege to be near family.&nbsp; While in Holdrege, the couple were members of the Bethel Lutheran Church, and most recently were faithful members of the Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Anne leaves to celebrate her life; her husband of 57 years, Vincent Bennett of Holdrege; three daughters: &nbsp;Stephanie Hemmer and her husband, Steven of Ord, Nebraska; Christine Thorne and her husband, Christopher of Robbinsville, New Jersey; and Patricia Terech and her husband, John Terech II of Palm City, Florida; four grandchildren:&nbsp; John Terech III; Joseph Terech; Lindsay Grace Terech; and Brianne Noel Thorne; three step-grandchildren:&nbsp; Daniel, Thomas, and Johnathan Hemmer; and a host of other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, per guidelines by the CDC for social distancing and number of people in the facility at one time.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Anne B. Bennett (1941-2020)

Jimmy Leon (Jim) Henry, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Holdrege Memorial Homes.&nbsp; Jim was born on September 15, 1936 in Hamilton, Missouri.&nbsp; He was the eldest of two children, of LaVern and Lena Mae Henry.&nbsp; Jim received his education from Hamilton Public Schools and graduated from Penney High School, in Hamilton, Missouri with the class of 1954.

On August 8, 1970 Jim was united in marriage to Betty Hocquell Ellis. The couple made their home in Holdrege, Nebraska.

Jim spent his life in Nebraska working first as a farmer with his friend and mentor, Ward Bryan, at the Busy B Ranch in Holdrege.&nbsp; Following his retirement at the farm Jim became the manager of Bosselman Oil in Holdrege.

Jim enjoyed many simple things—a Sunday drive to look at crops and farm implements, reading the paper, watching a ball game on television, and napping in his recliner, doing all of these things wearing his signature pin-striped bib overalls.&nbsp; Jim was an avid collector of knives and loved tinkering at his work bench making his own knives and home-made scrapers to share with friends.&nbsp; He could put an edge on a knife like no other.&nbsp; Much of the time Jim was a silent observer but liked to “stir the pot” and had a hardy, contagious laugh.

One of his favorite things was having coffee with his friends.&nbsp; Without fail, at 4:00 p.m. on any weekday you could find him and his pals having coffee at the Cozy, the Zephyr, or Country Cookin'.&nbsp; He valued those friendships until the end.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Westhoff; and his brother, Larry Henry.

Jim leaves to celebrate his life: his wife, Betty Henry of Kearney, Nebraska; his daughter, Genella Fernow and her husband Rod, of Fingal, North Dakota; his daughter, Kelly Drennan of Jefferson City, Missouri; his son, Lake Ellis and his wife Libby, of Brandon, Mississippi; and his daughter, Kim Spencer of Leander, Texas. His brother, Larry’s children were also an important part of his life—Brian Henry, Stephanie Cook, and Brent Henry and his wife Susan, all of Missouri.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandchildren to whom he taught many life lessons: Chris, Brock, Patrick, Ricky, Jimmy, Brooke, Tanner, Hunter, Aaron, Skyler, and Brady.&nbsp; Jim also had many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Jessica G. Eidem, 41 of Kearney passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jessica was born July 11, 1978 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Martin and Bonnie (Knight) Mueller.&nbsp; She was raised in Ogallala and attended St. Luke’s Catholic Elementary School and later Ogallala High School, graduating with the class of 1996.&nbsp; Jessica was the class valedictorian, a standout member of the girls’ golf team, a thespian, and a member of the band.&nbsp; &nbsp;She enjoyed waitressing, played piano at Ogallala’s famed Front Street Crystal Palace Review, and was a photographer’s assistant.&nbsp; After graduation, she attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney (UNK) where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education.&nbsp; She delivered flowers for Kearney Floral when not in class.&nbsp; On June 10, 2000, Jessica was united in marriage to Nathan Eidem at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala.&nbsp; She began her career at Horizon Middle School in Kearney, teaching 7th grade science until 2003. During this time, she earned her master’s degree from UNK.&nbsp; The couple moved to Washington, D.C. and Carbondale, Illinois to continue their education, and Albany, Oregon where Jessica taught in Mt. Angel and was the girls High School Golf Coach.&nbsp; In 2008, they moved back to Kearney where she worked at Sunrise Middle School, before returning to her previous 7th grade science position at Horizon Middle School.&nbsp; Jessica loved to learn and enjoyed the challenge of sharing that knowledge with her students.&nbsp; She was a natural teacher. Their beautiful daughter, Julia, was born on July 20, 2009. Her birth was harrowing for the new mother, as she battled pre-eclampsia.&nbsp; The two enjoyed their girls’ weekends together.&nbsp; A handsome son, Isaac, came into their world on February 4, 2012.&nbsp; His birth followed a storm that dumped 10” of snow on Kearney, adding some extra excitement to the event.&nbsp; The two loved to read together.&nbsp; The family traveled extensively throughout the U.S. on many long road trips.&nbsp; She loved her children very much and put them at the top of her priority list every day of their lives.&nbsp; She was an accomplished teacher, but her passion was her family.&nbsp; Her biggest wish was for society to put child-rearing at the top of its priority list. Jessica had an unwavering faith and was an active member of Kearney First Lutheran Church.&nbsp; She taught confirmation classes, helped with VBS, mission outreach and played the keyboard in the praise band.&nbsp; She loved to golf, play piano, go on walks, travel, attend concerts and spend time with her family. Jessica loved to laugh and was one of the kindest people wherever she went.&nbsp; Her beautiful smile could light up a room.&nbsp; She was well loved by her family, friends, co-workers, and students.&nbsp; Although Jess met a tragic end while walking with Nate, it is somewhat poetic that it happened at the same school she loved so well. Johnson, 97 of Kearney passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Mother Hull Home in Kearney.&nbsp; Lillian was born July 28, 1922 in Bloomington, Nebraska to John and Katie (Dorn) Fritson.&nbsp; She was raised in Bloomington and was a 1940 graduate of Bloomington High School.&nbsp; On October 31, 1948, Lillian was united in marriage to Edsel Johnson at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden.&nbsp; To this union two children were blessed; Kay and Kim.&nbsp; The couple made their home on a farm four miles east of Minden where they farmed and raised cows, chickens, sheep and lambs.&nbsp; Lillian was no stranger to hard work as she helped with many tasks on the farm.&nbsp; She later worked at the Minden Hospital for several years.&nbsp; Edsel and Lillian moved to Kearney in 1990 where they were members of Zion Lutheran Church and School. Lillian was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden and was very active as a Sunday school teacher and was a charter member of the Ruth Society.&nbsp; She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, DAV Auxiliary and TOPS.&nbsp; Lillian enjoyed tending to the chickens, her garden and flowers. Jose F. Acosta, 65, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born October 3, 1954 in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico to Francisco and Evangelina (Moreno) Acosta.

Jose was united in marriage to Bessy Garcia on October 4, 2005 in Lexington.&nbsp; Two children were blessed to this union: Francisco and Genesis.

He lived in California before settling in Lexington.&nbsp; Jose worked at Tyson Fresh Meats for twenty years in processing.

Jose was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the Los Angeles Lakers and Santos Laguna soccer team.&nbsp; He enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Bessy of Lexington; his children, Francisco and Genesis of Lexington, Veronica Acosta of California and Sandra Acosta of Mexico; two brothers, Victor (Maria Elena) Acosta of Mexico and Juan Alberto (Luz) Acosta of Mexico; six sisters, Teresa Acosta of Mexico, Martha Estrada of California, Esther Acosta of California, Laura Acosta of Mexico, Patricia Acosta of Mexico and Virginia Acosta of Mexico; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eva and Lili; and a nephew, Marco Estrada.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Santos Ordonez, officiating. The funeral service will be streamed live on the Reynolds Love Facebook page.

Jose F. Acosta (1954-2020)

Steven M. York, 72, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at CHI Health Creighton Medical Center-Bergan Mercy.

Steve was born May 31, 1948 to Eweldean and Barbara (Mann) York in Richmond, Indiana.&nbsp; He attended school in Richmond, Ohio before transferring to Twin Valley South High School in West Alexandria, Ohio graduating with the class of 1966.&nbsp; On August 22, 1967, he enlisted in the United States Army.&nbsp; Steve did his basic training at Fort Benning in Georgia, his AIT training at Fort Polk in Louisiana and NCO at Fort Riley in Kansas.&nbsp; Steve spent twenty one months in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on March 17, 1970.

Steve was united in marriage to Judy Ketring on December 23, 1967 in Eaton, Ohio.&nbsp; Two boys were blessed to this union: Michael and Shawn.&nbsp; His family lived in Denver, Colorado, before moving to Lexington in 1984 where they have resided here ever since.

He worked the majority of his life in maintenance, working for Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Holiday Inn Hotels and Tyson in Lexington.&nbsp; Before retiring, Steve was a truck driver for fifteen years.

His hobbies included working on radio air control airplanes, model trains, hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors.&nbsp; Steve took great pride in his yard and working in his rose garden.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Judy of Lexington; his two sons, Michael (Stacey) York of Kearney and Shawn (Laura) York of Ravenna; three grandchildren, Dylan and Ryan of Kearney and Alyssa Dewey of Grand Island; two brothers, Samuel (Gina) York and Rick (Laura) York of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Sheila Hobbs (Greg Vanover) of West Chester, Ohio and Dena (Rick) Shepherd of Brookville, Ohio; his dog, Beau; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Steve’s wish for cremation.&nbsp; Burial will be held at a later date.

&nbsp; Glenda Aurelia Loeffler was born May 5, 1930, in Wauneta, Nebraska, to George Edward and Wilma Rowena (Waidley) Rowley.&nbsp; Glenda grew up and attended school in Imperial, Nebraska, where she graduated with the class of 1948 from Chase County High School. On December 24, 1947, Glenda married Frank Olen Loeffler in Grant, Nebraska.&nbsp; The couple settled in Imperial and Glenda was employed at Ben Franklin, Skeel’s Jack &amp; Jill and the Imperial Manor, retiring at the age of 76. Glenda enjoyed reading, painting by numbers, bingo and crossword puzzles, she especially loved all family activities.&nbsp; Glenda was a member of the Imperial Berean Church. Glenda passed away Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2020, at the Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte, NE. She was 90 years of age. Eugene F. “Blue” Decker, 70 of Grand Island formerly of Lexington passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at his home in Grand Island.

Eugene was born August 31, 1949 in rural Lone Rock, Iowa to Clinton and Stella Lucille (Gordon) Decker.

Gene attended schools in Algona, Iowa and graduated high school in 1968 at Lu Verne, Iowa.&nbsp; He began work for IBP in 1968 on their construction crew in Dakota City, Nebraska.&nbsp; Gene enlisted in the United States Army reserves in 1969 and served seven years earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.&nbsp; Gene was united in marriage to Susan Marie Gamble on September 26, 1970, the couple would have celebrated their fifty year anniversary this September.&nbsp; To this union one son, Chris was born.

Gene retired in April of 2015 at the Lexington, Nebraska Tyson Beef Plant.&nbsp; He then worked for the City Of Lexington mowing the cemeteries.&nbsp; On June 1, 2017 the couple moved to Grand Island to be closer to their son Chris and daughter-in-law April.&nbsp; After moving to Grand Island Gene mowed parks and the hike and bike trail for one year.

Gene enjoyed bowling, golf and hunting trips with his son, Chris.&nbsp; The family enjoyed a trip to northern Canada to hunt bear and fish in 2018.&nbsp; Gene was a longtime fan of the Chicago Cubs.&nbsp; Gene also had the opportunity to work with his son, Chris on Gene’s 1963 Impala.&nbsp; He loved spending time with his family and playing with the granddogs.

Survivors include; Gene’s wife Susan of Grand Island, son Christopher and wife April of Grand Island, brothers-in-law: Don and wife Cheryl Gamble of Sioux City, Iowa, Bruce and wife Lori Gamble of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Scott and wife Diane Gamble of Delano, Minnesota, sister-in-law, Donna Decker of Houston, Texas, eight nephews, three nieces, six great nephews, four great nieces and his granddog, Bear.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: LeRoy and Wayne, sister; Lucille Fox, nephews: Lon Fox, Jerry Rieck, Gene’s father and mother-in-law Del and Helen Gamble, sister-in-law Barbara Brown and a granddog, Daisy.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating.&nbsp; The service will be streamed live on the Reynolds Love Facebook page.

There will be a book signing from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Inurnment with military honors will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa at 2:00 p.m.

Eugene F. 'Blue' Decker (1949-2020)

Fred V. Smith, 94, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 in Callaway surrounded by family.

He was born in Kearney, Nebraska, on June 14, 1926 to Earl and Merle Smith.&nbsp; Fred has many great stories about growing up in Kearney.&nbsp; As an interesting side note, his saddest was the death of his baby brother from drowning.&nbsp; The funeral was held in the home as the family was quarantined with measles.&nbsp; History has a way of repeating.&nbsp; He had many special memories of summers spent on Murphy Table with his grandparents planting tree strips, watering hogs, and sneaking away to go skinny dipping in the river.&nbsp; They built dams for erosion control in the surrounding canyons.&nbsp; Farming with his grandparents and uncles during the summer was where he developed his lifelong love for farming.

While attending high school he enrolled in the Trades and Industry Course working for Penny’s selling shoes.&nbsp; He got paid a pittance by today’s standards.&nbsp; He graduated from Longfellow High School in Kearney in May 1943 and accompanied his sister Mary to California for her wedding.&nbsp; One of his favorite stories was that he was a bridesmaid, groomsman, and congregation.&nbsp; Fred worked for Consolidated Aircraft.&nbsp; He and Mary returned to Kearney when her husband was sent overseas with the Marines.&nbsp; He held various jobs mixing cement and in the motor pool before joining the Navy in October of 1944.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged in July of 1946.&nbsp; He met Lorraine at the Buffalo County fair dance.

He married Lorraine Elizabeth Wiegand on February 18, 1947 and resided in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; He worked for the Spillway Power Plant from 1947-1950 when the opportunity to farm Murphy Table came up.&nbsp; The family lived there until 1955 when they bought their current farm on the southeast edge of Callaway.&nbsp; Fred soon took a job with the post office and worked there until he retired and farmed during his “spare” time and continued to farm well into his nineties.

Fred and Lorraine raised four children.&nbsp; Three of which, today, reside in Callaway and the fourth is shortly retiring and moving on the home farm.

Fred is survived by his children, James (Terri) Smith, Mary Smith, Karen (Smith) Leach and Leon (Tami) Smith; Eight grandchildren, Mike (Karmen) Smith, Mark (Brenda) Smith, Jill (Rich) Kumke, Chris Leach, Nancy (James) Healey, Lance (Kristen) Smith, Brandon (Ashley) Smith and Leigh Anne Smith; Twelve great-grandchildren, Hayden and Caleb Smith, Brady and Myka Smith, Alyssa, Lyndsey, and Benjamin Kumke, Keon and Kaylee Smith, Brooklyn, Charlee, and Andi Smith; Sister, Mary Cooley; Two brothers, Royce Smith and Larry (Lois) Smith; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include, Delbert (Norita) Wiegand, Lucille (Al) Candy, Leonard (Virginia) Wiegand and sister-in-law, Della Wiegand; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and family friends.

Smith, 94, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 in Callaway surrounded by family.He was born in Kearney, Nebraska, on June 14, 1926 to Earl and Merle Smith.&nbsp; Fred has many great stories about growing up in Kearney.&nbsp; As an interesting side note, his saddest was the death of his baby brother from drowning.&nbsp; The funeral was held in the home as the family was quarantined with measles.&nbsp; History has a way of repeating.&nbsp; He had many special memories of summers spent on Murphy Table with his grandparents planting tree strips, watering hogs, and sneaking away to go skinny dipping in the river.&nbsp; They built dams for erosion control in the surrounding canyons.&nbsp; Farming with his grandparents and uncles during the summer was where he developed his lifelong love for farming.While attending high school he enrolled in the Trades and Industry Course working for Penny’s selling shoes.&nbsp; He got paid a pittance by today’s standards.&nbsp; He graduated from Longfellow High School in Kearney in May 1943 and accompanied his sister Mary to California for her wedding.&nbsp; One of his favorite stories was that he was a bridesmaid, groomsman, and congregation.&nbsp; Fred worked for Consolidated Aircraft.&nbsp; He and Mary returned to Kearney when her husband was sent overseas with the Marines.&nbsp; He held various jobs mixing cement and in the motor pool before joining the Navy in October of 1944.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged in July of 1946.&nbsp; He met Lorraine at the Buffalo County fair dance.He married Lorraine Elizabeth Wiegand on February 18, 1947 and resided in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; He worked for the Spillway Power Plant from 1947-1950 when the opportunity to farm Murphy Table came up.&nbsp; The family lived there until 1955 when they bought their current farm on the southeast edge of Callaway.&nbsp; Fred soon took a job with the post office and worked there until he retired and farmed during his “spare” time and continued to farm well into his nineties.Fred and Lorraine raised four children.&nbsp; Three of which, today, reside in Callaway and the fourth is shortly retiring and moving on the home farm.Fred is survived by his children, James (Terri) Smith, Mary Smith, Karen (Smith) Leach and Leon (Tami) Smith; Eight grandchildren, Mike (Karmen) Smith, Mark (Brenda) Smith, Jill (Rich) Kumke, Chris Leach, Nancy (James) Healey, Lance (Kristen) Smith, Brandon (Ashley) Smith and Leigh Anne Smith; Twelve great-grandchildren, Hayden and Caleb Smith, Brady and Myka Smith, Alyssa, Lyndsey, and Benjamin Kumke, Keon and Kaylee Smith, Brooklyn, Charlee, and Andi Smith; Sister, Mary Cooley; Two brothers, Royce Smith and Larry (Lois) Smith; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include, Delbert (Norita) Wiegand, Lucille (Al) Candy, Leonard (Virginia) Wiegand and sister-in-law, Della Wiegand; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and family friends.Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Merle Smith of Callaway; wife, Lorraine in 2019; brother, Kent Earl, brother-in-law, Kenneth Cooley, and sister-in-law, Delores Smith; Sisters-in-law, Verna (Jerry) Simpson, and Joan (Frank) Starr; brothers-in-law, Dietrich “Dick” (Margie) Wiegand, Aloysious Wiegand, and other beloved family members along with numerous friends.Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway with Doug Boldt, officiating. Roy Alfred Loshonkohl, age 84, of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away June 27, 2020, at Kearney, Nebraska, at KRMC.&nbsp; Roy was born March 14, 1936, in Exeter, Nebraska, to Alfred and Verdie (Dyer) Loshonkohl.&nbsp; The family later moved to Lincoln before settling in Cozad, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Roy served in Heilbronn, Germany, for the U.S. Army where he met the loves of his life, Lore, Reimund, and Monika.&nbsp; He served one year and eleven months before bringing the trio to Cozad, Nebraska, in September of 1961.&nbsp; The couple celebrated two weddings, one in Germany before leaving Europe, and another one on September 25, 1961, in Cozad, NE.&nbsp; From this union, three more children were born, Michelle, Marianne, and Alfred.&nbsp;

Providing for his family through his work was very important to Roy.&nbsp; He worked for a land leveling company and for several local farmers throughout the years.

Roy is survived by his wife, Lore, of nearly 59 years, and his dog Fritz, of Cozad, Nebraska, daughter-in-law Jean (Reimund), Loshonkohl, Monika (Verl) Jurjens, and Michelle (Kim) Lehmann all of Eustis, Nebraska. His grandchildren, Ryan (Helen) Jurjens, Mike (Jill) Loshonkohl, Lindsey (Dallas) Farr, Kristen (Greg) Richey, Shelby (John) Uhrich, Jennifer (Simson) Wang, Jessika (Cody) Klingelhoefer, Jeff (Katie) Loshonkohl and 23 great-grandchildren, Emilee, Rylee, Josie, Luke, Jake, Kohl, Mark, Camden, Averie, Brynn, Cale, Shelby, Haydn, Blayklee, Maddyn, Cashtyn, Creighton Conrad, Cori, Trevor, Tyson, Kiptyn, and Rhett, and his sisters, Betty Collicott of Cozad, Nebraska, and Lois (Chuck) Gregory of Holdrege, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Waiting for Roy at Heaven’s gate were his parents, children Reimund, Marianne, and Alfred Loshonkohl, great-granddaughter Gentry Farr, and sister, Helen Clevenger.

Roy will be greatly missed by many relatives and friends, and great friend, Pastor Greg Boller.&nbsp;

As stated by a granddaughter, Roy was a man of character and often an ornery one.&nbsp; His jovial laugh was like none other.&nbsp; He had a signature grin to go along with that laugh.&nbsp; Roy has the ability to shoot the bull no matter what the social outing was.&nbsp; His hair was never longer than an eighth of an inch.&nbsp; He could tinker for hours or build something from his own blueprint.&nbsp; Roy loved deviled eggs and popcorn with milk, and he could put down the Busch Light if the day was just right.&nbsp; He knew everything there was to know about anything.&nbsp; He loved his family fiercely and created a wonderful legacy.&nbsp;

It is the family’s hope that Roy will be remembered for his contagious smile and his roaring laugh.&nbsp;

Roy Alfred Loshonkohl (1936-2020)

JoAnne&nbsp; Harms, age 88, of Brule, NE, passed away, Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at The Indian Hills Manor in Ogallalla, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; JoAnne was born December 18, 1931 in Brule, NE to Joseph and Lois Anne (Mong) Smolcyzyk. She was baptized at St. Luke's Rectory on December 21, 1931&nbsp; &nbsp; JoAnne attended elementary school at District #22. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School in Sidney, NE from the seventh grade through the first semester of ninth grade. JoAnne then attended Ogallala High School for a year and a half before moving to Tucson, AZ. She graduated from High School in Tucson in 1950. &nbsp; In 1954 she graduated from the University of Nebraska Colllege of Nursing in Omaha with a Registered Nurse Certificate. JoAnne was employed at the Ogallala Medical Clinic and at Perkins County Hospital.

On August 1, 1956 JoAnne was united in marriage to Milan L. Harms. The couple resided in Brule and in 1961 moved to the family farm north and west of Brule. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on December 31, 1968 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Brule by the Rev. E.L. Feyerherm and was a member there ever since.&nbsp;

The Harms moved into Brule in 1982 and then returned to the farm in 1995. Milan Passed away in April 1997 and she retired from farming in 2000.&nbsp;

JoAnne enjoyed being a homemaker and helping on the farm. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, cooking and traveling. She was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for many years. &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband, Milan; and her parents; and 1 sister, Mary Nowak.

JoAnne is survived by 1 son; Brad (April) Harms, of Brule; 4 daughters; Patty (Errol) Nordhausen, of Ogallala; Jean (Jerry) Armstrong, of Holyoke, CO; Amy (Kevin) Madden, of Potter, NE; Faye (John) Copeland, of Big Piney, WY; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Richard (Lee Ann) Smolczyk, of Liberty, MO.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Visitation will be held, Monday, June 29, 2020 from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala.&nbsp;

JoAnne Harms (1931-2020)

Timothy Lee Callahan, 60, of Brady, NE, passed away, Monday, June 29, 2020, at Great Plains Health. He was born January 25, 1960, to Patrick and Lelia (Kern) Callahan, in Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp; Tim graduated from Brady High School with the class of 1978. After graduation he entered the United States Marines in 1980, serving in Korea, Japan and the Philippines.&nbsp; After his honorable discharge he resided in California then moved back to Brady in January of 1988.&nbsp; Tim married Jeralyn Holling on July 14, 1990 in Omaha.&nbsp; The couple lived in Brady where Tim ranched on the family place and has continued up until present.&nbsp; For the past 18 years he’s worked for the NE Department of Roads/Transportation as an IT analyst.

He enjoyed playing poker at the Hitching Post and cards on Sunday’s in North Platte, he also enjoyed following his children’s activities.&nbsp; Training horses, was a way that Tim excelled showing his patience and was known as an animal whisperer, always having a way with many sorts of animals.&nbsp; He was also very technical and mechanical and will always be remembered as a bargain shopper.

Survivors include his two children; son, Ethan Callahan, Lincoln, NE., daughter, Tara Callahan, Seward, NE; children’s mother, Jeralyn Callahan, North Platte; siblings; Barbara Callahan, Bellevue, NE as well as several nieces and nephews, including Joe Callahan of Kearney, NE. Patrick Cooper and Britney Cooper, both of Omaha, NE.; and many friends. 

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Callahan; sister Susan Cooper and nephew William Callahan.

Bob grew up in the Dickens/Hershey area of Nebraska and graduated from Hershey High School in 1961.&nbsp; He entered the U.S. Marine corp and served in Okinawa.&nbsp; He married Merlee Hemenway on August 11, 1964 in St. Francis, Kansas and after his discharge, they returned to Hershey where he worked at a gas station.

He moved to Golden, Colorado where he worked at Coors, bought a welding shop in Eddyville, worked for NPPD and owned a pivot company, Sandhills Service, which he was still operating.

Bob was a very respected man and helped out many of his customers night and day.&nbsp; He was a member of Maria Lutheran Church, Hershey American Legion, and past member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Golden, Colorado.&nbsp; He loved elk hunting and four wheeling through the mountains in his Toyota's.&nbsp; He welcomed family and friends into his home throughout the years.

Survivors include his wife, Merlee, of Dickens, Nebraska; six children, Nick (Faylene) Husdon of Dickens, Chad (LeAnn Amwig) Hudson of Hreshey, Nebraska, Kathy (Bill) Kelin of Battle Creek, Nebraska, Wade (Shannon) Hudson of Dickens, Laura (fiance Jimmy Knutson) Legg of North Platte, Nebraska, and River Hudson of Dickens; grandchildren, Ashlee (Moses) Hallsted of North Platte, Sierra (Justin McCurdy) Schumm of Hastings, Nebraska, Laynie Hudson of Tomball, Texas, Samantha (Brandon) Childress of Cleveland, Texas, Katrina Hudson of Cleveland, Texas, Josh Wilson of Cleveland, Texas, Cassandra Vencil of Battle Creek, Nebraska, Travis (Shelby) Kelin of Bellwood, Nebraska, Nate (Amanda) Klein of Bellwood, Tyler Klein of Schuyler, Nebraska, Reagan Hudson of Dickens, Rylan Hudson of Dickens, Hoyt Dancer of Dickens, and Easton Dancer of Dickens; great grandchildren, Brelee, Miles, Auria, Liberty, Rayna, Dominick, Harley, Barrett, and Brooks; brother, Louis Garnett (Barb) Hudson of Hershey, Nebraska; sisters, Denise Paul of Spring, Texas and Mary Tucker of Bullhead, Arizona; and numerous other family members and friends.

Diane Marie Hall, 54, of Stapleton, died Friday, June 26, 2020 at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; She was born October 27, 1965 to Harold and Catherine (Fahnholz) Fischer at Hastings, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; Diane lived her childhood years in Keystone and Paxton, NE.&nbsp; She graduated from Paxton High School with the class of 1985.&nbsp; Then moved to Scottsbluff and attended Western NE Community College.&nbsp; She married David Felipe Caudillo in June of 1986.&nbsp; To this union 3 children were born, Brittany, Nicole and Valerie.&nbsp; The family lived in Scottsbluff, moved to Grant, NE then to Darr, NE to be closer to her parents.&nbsp; Diane was married and had a daughter Cassandra in Kearney, NE.&nbsp; On May, 1, 2010 Diane married Wayne Hall in North Platte, as she welcomed a son Joe to her family.&nbsp;Diane and Wayne lived in North Platte until they moved to Stapleton in 2012.&nbsp;

Diane was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend.&nbsp; She loved her grandbabies dearly.&nbsp; She will be remembered by her contagious laugh, smile on her face and she never knew a stranger.&nbsp; Any room would light up when Diane walked in.&nbsp; She volunteered at the Stapleton Public Library.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Norene (McConnell) Carr; her husband, Eugene; infant daughter, Tira Houghtelling; son, Rory Houghtelling and son-in-law, Bill Pew.

Suvivors include: son, Rady Houghtelling of Kalispell, Montana; daughter, Teresa (Ron) Mihm of Brule, Nebraska; daughter, Tammie Pew of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, Gary (Judy) Carr of Holdrege, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren and many loved and cherished great-grandchildren.

Devona Houghtelling (1932-2020)

Gerald Laverne Jobman, 81, of Omaha, Nebraska (formerly of Gothenburg), passed away on June 26, 2020 at the Hospice House in Omaha, NE.&nbsp; 

He was born August 25, 1938 at Gothenburg to Arthur William and Lucille Virginia (Geiken) Jobman.&nbsp; Gerald grew up on the family farm 9 miles northeast of Gothenburg and lived over 60 years on this farm.&nbsp; The farm has been in the family for over 100 years.&nbsp; He graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1956 and loved attending his class reunions and visiting with classmates.&nbsp;

In February 1957, he joined the United States Army Reserves and was discharged in March 1961.&nbsp; On December 26, 1965, Gerald married Sheila Cooper at Lexington, Nebraska and they became the parents of two children: Tregg Robert and Tracy Kay.&nbsp;

 </figure>Gerald Laverne Jobman, 81, of Omaha, Nebraska (formerly of Gothenburg), passed away on June 26, 2020 at the Hospice House in Omaha, NE.&nbsp; He was born August 25, 1938 at Gothenburg to Arthur William and Lucille Virginia (Geiken) Jobman.&nbsp; Gerald grew up on the family farm 9 miles northeast of Gothenburg and lived over 60 years on this farm.&nbsp; The farm has been in the family for over 100 years.&nbsp; He graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1956 and loved attending his class reunions and visiting with classmates.&nbsp;In February 1957, he joined the United States Army Reserves and was discharged in March 1961.&nbsp; On December 26, 1965, Gerald married Sheila Cooper at Lexington, Nebraska and they became the parents of two children: Tregg Robert and Tracy Kay.&nbsp;Gerald loved farming and taking care of the cattle.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed the cattle each spring as the new baby calves were born.&nbsp; In fact, each baby calf got a welcome kiss on its head as he tagged it.&nbsp; He retired from farming in 2000, but still loved to see the crops grow and mature each year as the farmer heart remained within him, even after moving into Gothenburg in 1995 and then to Omaha in 2016.&nbsp;He belonged to the Gothenburg Lion’s Club for 37 years, and then joined the Elkhorn Lion’s Club after he moved to Omaha.&nbsp; He worked on many of the projects and fund-raisers for the Lion’s.&nbsp; Gerald was a member of the Gothenburg United Methodist church for 50 years where he was head usher for many years and also had taught Sunday school for several years.&nbsp; He served as an Assistant Scout Master to the Gothenburg Boy Scouts in Troop 177 for several years, going on camping events with them, helping with their meetings and their many projects.&nbsp; Gerald helped the Gothenburg Senior Center by delivering Meals on Wheels, and also took many Hilltop Estates’ patients to doctor appointments.&nbsp; In addition, he served on the Gothenburg Cemetery Board for several years.&nbsp;Gerald loved attending sporting events and following the Gothenburg teams and also UNL football.&nbsp; Gerald held season tickets to UNL football for over 50 years and really enjoyed attending as many of their home games as he could.&nbsp; After retirement, he kept busy by visiting with friends each day in the various coffee shops in Gothenburg sometimes stopping by four different ones in a day.&nbsp; He also enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles every day.&nbsp; Gerald truly enjoyed collecting toy tractors, combines, and trucks which he did for many years.&nbsp; After moving to Omaha, he sold the majority of his collection of toys at a toy auction but kept about 75 or so for his own enjoyment.He was preceded in death by his parents Art and Lucille Jobman; his grandparents Andrew and Minnie Jobman and George and Estella Geiken; his in-laws Alan and Florence Cooper; brother-in-law Gary Cooper; aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.Survivors include his wife Sheila of Omaha; his son Tregg (Vicki) Jobman of Omaha and his daughter Tracy (Rocky) D’Andrea of Dover, New Hampshire; nine grandchildren: Christy, Dan, Tim, Karissa, Savannah, and Cassie Jobman; Nick Lahowetz; Nick and Tony D’Andrea, as well as two great-granddaughters, Ava and Thea Jobman; brother Ron (Sandy) Jobman of Gothenburg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Linda (Cooper) Varilek of Lamar, Nebraska; many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation: Monday, July 6, 2020, 12:00 PM-2:00 PM, First United Methodist Church, Gothenburg, NE.Funeral: 2:00 PM, Monday, July 6, 2020, First United Methodist Church, 1401 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp; Masks are not required but appreciated.&nbsp;Burial will take place in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE.Memorials may be directed to&nbsp;the Gothenburg Lions, the Gothenburg Senior Center, and the First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg.&nbsp;
