Edward “Ed” Powers, age 75, passed away at his home on December 12, 2023. &nbsp;He was born on March 18, in McCook to Lester and Dorothy (Godwin) Powers. &nbsp;Ed attended school in Trenton, graduating in 1966. &nbsp;Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy, on July 15, 1956. &nbsp;He was trained as a corpsman/medic. &nbsp;He was Honorably Discharged on February 10, 1971.

He returned home working in the oil fields, carpentry, railroad until he bought the Recreation Center in Trenton, renaming it to Ed’s Recreation. Pool hall was his baby! &nbsp;He respected the antique pool tables and expected others to do so. &nbsp;Ed kicked out several who drank or smoked near them or damaged them in any way, including rough housing.

Ed was a member of the VFW, Disabled Vets, and the Eagles Club. He loved archery, black powder hunting, fishing and (not least of all) pool.

Ed married Beverly Delai Cathcart on October 11, 1992, in McCook. He was a friend to all who knew him. &nbsp;He had many pets and treated them like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Dorothy, sister-in-law, Peggy (Davis) Powers.

Ed is survived by his wife, Beverly; siblings: Charlie (Pat) Powers, Carol Barazza, Janet Powers, and Joyce (Doug) Turink; nephews, Ryan Powers, Adam Powers, Dania Barazza, Jason Barazza, Alan Aramayo, Nathan Turink; niece Jordan (Andy) Willer. &nbsp;Ed loved Beverly’s children, David (Gina) Cathcart, Aaron (Heidi) Cathcart, Lora Cathcart Hamil; grandchildren, Gillian, Alyson, Madison Cathcart, Tyler (Hanna) Floro, Faith Lora Wallace; great grandchildren, Harper, Vivian Floro, Jeramiah Wallace and Anica Wallace. Special friends Karl Matson, Mike Kearney, RT, and Billy Joe who worked fervently while he was homebound for the last three years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St James Catholic Church in Trenton with Father Gary Brethour officiating. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery of Trenton. &nbsp;Military Honors will be performed by the Navy Funeral Honors Unit, along with the VFW.

Gerald “Gary” Glass age 80 of Whitman, NE died Sunday, December 10, 2023, at his home in Whitman.

Gerald Lee Glass was born on July 31, 1943, in Omaha, NE to Willard Hicks and Ena Margaret (Call) Glass.&nbsp; Gary lived in the Whitman area most of his life.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gerald Glass Jr., a stepson Wayne Glass, and a sister Gloria.

There will be no services held and Gary’s remains will be buried in the Whitman Cemetery.

Hazel (Hazey) Jean Diehl, 1 day shy of being 8 months old, gained her angel wings on December 10, 2023.

Hazel was welcomed into this world on April 11, 2023 at GPH in North Platte, NE to loving parents Aimee Diehl and Dale Wiezorek.

She brought so much joy and happiness to her family with her many smiles, laughter and her attempts to vocalize with her many forms of communication- including her "fake coughs"/laughs.&nbsp;

Although she hadn't started to crawl she figured out she could just roll to her destination which usually included her mommies lap.

Loved peek-a-boo with Hunter and Sawyer and they loved her to pieces and were so proud to be her big brothers.&nbsp;

She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her mom Aimee, father Dale, brothers Hunter and Sawyer Diehl, Grammy Debbie Diehl and additional siblings Rieley, Hayley and Taylor. Also such special people in her life Paul and Gloria Kugler and "Aunties" Keri Findley and Aspen Golter.

She will be welcomed by those preceding her including her Papa Michael Diehl, great grandparents Harold "Wag" and Jean Wagner and many family members and friends.

Patricia A. Schutz of Elwood passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Elwood Care Center at the age of 95. Pat was born February 5, 1928 in McCook, Nebraska to William and Frances (Benjamin) Whisler. Pat was around six years old when the family moved from McCook to Eustis where she helped her dad manually turn the street lights on every evening and off again each morning. She attended school in Eustis and graduated with the class of 1946. After graduation, she taught school in a rural school south of Eustis for one year.&nbsp;

On February 26, 1948, Pat married Byron Schutz. They lived in Wyoming for a short time, then returned to Nebraska where they farmed in Frontier County. Pat was a farm wife and was busy raising her family. They later moved to Elwood and owned and operated a café and pool hall. Pat worked at Becton Dickinson in Holdrege for several years, then as a clerk at Clarks Grocery Store in Elwood, and at the Elwood Senior Center as a cook assistant and volunteer. She moved to a Senior Living complex for several years, then to the Elwood Care Center in May of 2007, where she had resided since. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron; daughter, Leann; siblings, Marcy, Nadine, Jean and Tom. Survivors include her children, David (Shauna) of Culbertson, Peggy (Bob) of Elkhorn, Randall (Coleen) of Elwood and Daniel (Jennifer) of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Timothea Ann Frost, age 83, of McCook, Nebraska passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Timothea was born on May 4, 1940 in Denver, Colorado to Mr. Williams and Getta B. (Dick) Williams.

Timothea graduated from South High in Denver, Colorado in 1958. Timothea worked for AT&amp;T, retiring after 25 years. She then started a new career as a computer programmer. She was also an advisor for The Rainbow Girls. Timothea relocated to McCook in 2009 and&nbsp;was a member of the Catholic faith.

Timothea was proceeded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Jim (Nancy) Mahan of Alma, Nebraska.

Timothea Ann Frost (1940-2023)

Gregory Charles Pfeiffer Frates rode to heaven on Sunday, December 10th from his home surrounded by his Mom Connie, Dad Chuck, sister Jodie, girlfriend Amy, Amy’s mom Cindy, and his best friend Corky Hill. &nbsp;He was 46 years old, born on July 6, 1977, lived in North Platte, NE, and spent the last two years of his life fearlessly fighting against glioblastoma. &nbsp;

Greg attended Brule public schools, and graduated from South Platte High School in May 1996. &nbsp;Two months later he entered boot camp and served our country in the Marine Corps for four years before being honorably discharged. &nbsp;The years to follow Greg eagerly signed up for a variety of “crazy” experiences and schooling. &nbsp;Greg lived a life without limits, and if there was an adventure to be had, he was the first in line. &nbsp;His extreme work ethic was equal to that of his love for life and the adventures it held. &nbsp;He spent a summer working as a hot shot smoke jumper, years following he worked in the coal mines of Colorado and South Dakota, and perhaps the most interesting job took him on multiple trips to the South Pole, Antarctica. &nbsp;There, he was a heavy equipment mechanic and was invited to be a part of the first crew to find a land route from McMurdo Station to the South Pole. While on the excursion he repelled down crevasses, took amazing pictures, and very few showers left them all smelling something ripe upon their arrival to the South Pole. Greg returned to school in Estherville, Iowa to become a certified wind turbine technician where this job took him all over the US and Honduras. &nbsp;He eventually gave up the traveling life of wind turbines to join the mechanic team at NPPD, Gerald Gentleman Station. &nbsp;This relocation also allowed for him to continue his love for helping out on the farm and cattle. He was active in multiple organizations: Masons (fifth generation), Military Honor Guard, VFW, Eagles, The American Legion, ABATE, and the veteran group Yah-Ta-Hay. &nbsp;

Greg’s smile was infectious, and his zest for life almost indescribable. &nbsp;One of the greatest loves of his life was logging thousands of miles on his rigid seat Harley (that had to be at least twenty years old) and a bag of wrenches. &nbsp;Often, he would be heard saying, “let me fix my hair” and ride.

Greg ran with bulls in Spain, climbed Devil’s Tower (finishing the climb with only one shoe), and took any opportunity to visit a museum on his travels. &nbsp;Greg Frates was an amazing human and as many know, and have stated, “He was one of a kind”. &nbsp;Greg loved life and lived it to the fullest. &nbsp;

&nbsp;Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, his sister, Michaelynn, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his father, Charles, his mother, Connie, his sister, Jodie, his girlfriend, Amy Sutherland, his brother from another mother, Courtney Hill, three nephews: Gabe, Orion, Zain; aunts, uncles, cousins, Ride or Die buddies, and his beloved dog, The Duke of Frates.

Gregory Charles Pfeiffer Frates (1977-2023)

&nbsp; Jack Claney, son of the late William and Pearl Claney, was born February 20, 1925. Jack passed away Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. He was 98 years of age.

Jack’s family has a long history in the Imperial community. In the fall of 1916, Jack’s grandfather, Frank, and father, Bill, made a trip from Coggin, Iowa, to Nebraska. They were very impressed with Chase County, Nebraska. In March of 1917, Bill purchased a farm just east of Imperial, Nebraska.

The Bill Claney family and daughters resided in Imperial for a short time while their farm home was being constructed east of Imperial. They moved to the farm home in 1919. Their sons, Jim and Jack, were born in the farm home east of Imperial.

Jack graduated from Chase County High School in 1942. Jack remained on the farm until 1945 when he enlisted in the Army. Jack did basic training at Camp Roberts in California. Upon completion of training, he was shipped to Germany to Central Intelligence school in Oberammergau. Jack served the remainder of his service in Munich with the CIA. Jack was discharged from the Army in March 1947.

Jack returned to farming in Imperial which also included wheat land in eastern Colorado. He commuted between both farms by piloting his own airplane and fondly became known as the “suitcase farmer” which for many years remained his call name.

On August 12, 1950, Jack was united in marriage to Helen Smith Sandman. Helen’s husband, Ralph Sandman Jr., died in 1946 leaving her with her daughter, Sylvia. Jack became the father to Sylvia and raised her as his own. In 1951 the Claneys were blessed with another daughter, Tonda. Jack and Helen lived on the farm east of Imperial for over 40 years.

Jack served as Commander of the Andrew Kinder Post No 4688 Veterans of Foreign Wars and also served on the Chase County Fair Board. Jack was one of a six-man team of Chase and Dundy County wheat growers sent to Washington in 1959 to meet with members of Congress and appear before the committee which was considering proposed wheat legislation. Jack was also a member of the Chase County Stompers and a life member of the Imperial United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed golfing and hunting in his spare time.

The illness that took Jack’s life never overcame his spirit. He passed away with courage and grace, knowing for certain that he will be with us forever, cherished by his family and friends for the love and laughter he brought into our lives.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Helen; daughter Sylvia Polly; parents Bill and Pearl Claney; sisters Lois Foutz and Faye Blevins; and brother Jim Claney.

Survivors include: Daughter: Tonda McGarr and husband Max of Imperial, NE. 3 Grandchildren: Christine Oetjen and husband Tim of Gilbert, AZ, Janette Reed and husband Eddie of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Russell Mann. 3 Great-Grandchildren: Zachary Oetjen of Gilbert, AZ, Brock and Emme Reed of Highlands Ranch, CO. Nephews: Jimmy Claney of Springfield, MO, and Jerry Foutz of Salt Lake City, UT.

Memorial Services for Jack will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, 10:30 a.m. (MT), at the Imperial Methodist Church, with Pastor Brian Loy and Chaplain Tyler Thiessen officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, NE.

A memorial, in Jack’s memory, has been suggested to the Andrew Kinder Post No 4688 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Imperial, NE. (Funds will be used for Mount Hope Cemetery flags)

 </figure>&nbsp; Jack Claney, son of the late William and Pearl Claney, was born February 20, 1925. Jack passed away Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. He was 98 years of age.Jack’s family has a long history in the Imperial community. In the fall of 1916, Jack’s grandfather, Frank, and father, Bill, made a trip from Coggin, Iowa, to Nebraska. They were very impressed with Chase County, Nebraska. In March of 1917, Bill purchased a farm just east of Imperial, Nebraska.The Bill Claney family and daughters resided in Imperial for a short time while their farm home was being constructed east of Imperial. They moved to the farm home in 1919. Their sons, Jim and Jack, were born in the farm home east of Imperial.Jack graduated from Chase County High School in 1942. Jack remained on the farm until 1945 when he enlisted in the Army. Jack did basic training at Camp Roberts in California. Upon completion of training, he was shipped to Germany to Central Intelligence school in Oberammergau. Jack served the remainder of his service in Munich with the CIA. Jack was discharged from the Army in March 1947.Jack returned to farming in Imperial which also included wheat land in eastern Colorado. He commuted between both farms by piloting his own airplane and fondly became known as the “suitcase farmer” which for many years remained his call name.On August 12, 1950, Jack was united in marriage to Helen Smith Sandman. Helen’s husband, Ralph Sandman Jr., died in 1946 leaving her with her daughter, Sylvia. Jack became the father to Sylvia and raised her as his own. In 1951 the Claneys were blessed with another daughter, Tonda. Jack and Helen lived on the farm east of Imperial for over 40 years.Jack served as Commander of the Andrew Kinder Post No 4688 Veterans of Foreign Wars and also served on the Chase County Fair Board. Jack was one of a six-man team of Chase and Dundy County wheat growers sent to Washington in 1959 to meet with members of Congress and appear before the committee which was considering proposed wheat legislation. Jack was also a member of the Chase County Stompers and a life member of the Imperial United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed golfing and hunting in his spare time.Jack was a kind and compassionate man.The illness that took Jack’s life never overcame his spirit. Johnadean Jo Petersen, 70, of North Platte, lost her last life challenge surrounded by her family at her home as she peacefully departed this life. &nbsp;She was born December 12, 1952 to John and Verla (Sharp) Bohac in Kimball, Nebraska.

Johnadean grew up in Kimball and graduated from Kimball High School with the class of 1972. &nbsp;After high school she worked as a secretary and bartender at night. &nbsp;Johnadean met Bruce Petersen and the couple then married on June 25, 1977 in Kimball. &nbsp;The couple moved to North Platte where she held various jobs over the years finally retiring from Cabela’s call center in 2012.

Johnadean was a people person with family being the center of her life, especially her grandkids. &nbsp;She was an avid bowler and president of the Thursday morning coffee league. &nbsp;Her penchant and love for volunteerism often led her husband Bruce into helping as well. She enjoyed ceramics and was Co-President of Washington School PTA. She was active on my committees throughout her years and a dedicated member of the Moose Lodge and Women of the Moose.

&nbsp;Survivors include husband, Bruce of North Platte; children, Katie (Justin) Bringewatt of Kearney, Lindsey (Bob) Lydic of Brady, Nicholas (Ambur) Petersen of North Platte; grandchildren, Josyah, Landon, Hannah, Brenden, Abby, Gunner, Braylee, Jake, Tenley, and Lennon; siblings, Eileen (Butch) Rowley of Kimball, Ed Bohac of Kimball, Tom Bohac of Oregon; sister-in-law Gennie Bohac of Virginia; numerous other family members and many friends.

&nbsp; Christopher Paul Beckius died at Great Plains Health in North Platte on December 8, 2023, at the age of 49.

Chris, the son of Jerome "Jerry" and Sharon Beckius, was born at Long Beach, CA, on June 14, 1974.&nbsp; He grew up in North Platte where he graduated from N.P.H.S. in 1993.&nbsp; He worked at Taco Johns, Highland Dairy and Cement Products, then hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1998.&nbsp; Chris was a member of the United Transportation Union and worked as a Switchman.

In 1997, he married Jackie Clark and they later divorced.&nbsp; He married Terry Mustion in 2011 and they later divorced.

Chris was a giving person.&nbsp; He enjoyed spending time camping, being at the lake, and going to car shows.&nbsp; He loved his cars (especially his 1972 Cutlass), turning a wrench, Christmas, his Christmas lights, and his dogs, but most importantly, Chris loved watching his daughter, Annabelle, do anything.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Heather.

Chris leaves behind his parents, Jerry and Sharon Beckius, brother, Court Beckius, his children, Annabelle Beckius, Tyler Beckius and Nathaniel Beckius, and best friend, Terry Beckius, all of North Platte.

Baby Oliver Lee Axtell, age 3 months, of North Platte, NE, gained his angel wings on Sunday, December 10, 2023. &nbsp;He was the beloved son of Rylan Axtell and Tenesha Lee born on September 11, 2023 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Oliver was the happiest of baby boys, who had a smile that would light up a room. He stole the hearts of every person he came in contact with.&nbsp;

Cindy Thomas, age 66 of Broken Bow, NE passed away December 5, 2023, at her home in Broken Bow, NE.

Cindy Jean Thomas was born on April 30, 1957, in Kearney, NE to Delores Thomas. &nbsp;At the age of five, she was adopted by Delores’s brother LeRoy and Judy Thomas after the passing of her mother, Delores.

She grew up in Kearney and attended school at Kearney High School.

In 1982, her first child Heather Thomas was born. In 1989, her second child Hannah (Thomas) Raker was born. Then they moved to Custer County and a few years later she met the love of her life, Raymond Jensen “Tree”.

In 2004 her first grandchild was born (Tyler Thomas) at that time she knew she had to step up to be a mother figure because her daughter had health issues. Cindy and Tyler had a very special bond throughout the years. Then in 2009, she got her adopted grandson Sawyer Bumgarner, and in her eyes, those two boys could do no wrong. Still to this day, those boys were her everything.

Then in 2012, she got her mini-me, her granddaughter (Payton Raker). In the time they had together, they played lots of card games and colored a lot of pictures together. They argued cause Payton would leave her stuff lying around, but down deep she enjoyed it. Her grandkids and children were her everything. She loved them very much.

Cindy had many jobs throughout the years, but her favorite one was Casey’s where she spent 10 years and made lifelong friends.

Cindy is survived by her two daughters Heather Thomas (Clarence Keezer) of Broken Bow, and Hannah (Keith) Raker of Broken Bow, two grandkids Tyler Thomas and Payton Raker both of Broken Bow, a sister Robin Fry of Kearney, and an uncle and aunt, Lloyd &amp; Anna Taverner of Kearney.

Cindy was preceded by parents Delores Thomas, and LeRoy &amp; Judy Thomas, brothers Marty Thomas and Monty Hite, and a sister Deb Thomas.

Russell L. Wolf of Eustis passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney at the age of 88. Russell was born December 27, 1934 near Eustis, Nebraska to Gottlieb and Viola (Hueftle) Wolf. He graduated from Eustis High School and worked as a painter in the Eustis area. In 1956, he married Carol Boyer at the Christian Church in Cozad. They were blessed with 2 children:&nbsp; Michael and Shelly. Russell and Carol moved to Colorado where he started his own business painting and remodeling. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in nature. He was a past Exalted Ruler at Arvada Elks Lodge #2278, a CAP member and went on many search and rescue missions. Russell spent 8 weeks in Japan to build a school onto a chapel and spent 3 weeks visiting small villages in Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Roger. Survivors include his wife Carol of Eustis; son Michael (Cynthia) Wolf of Eustis and daughter Shelly (Henry) Strickland of Arvada, CO; grandchildren, Jamie (Jason) Peters of AR, Cassandra Wolf of Eustis; great grand children, Grayson, Aria, Katrina, Emily and Miles; brothers, Dennis Wolf and Dean Wolf, both of Eustis; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Russell L. Wolf (1934-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Arda Carola Hidy was born March 7, 1931, to Carl and Zella (Persinger) Hidy on a farm near Trenton, Nebraska. &nbsp;She passed on to her heavenly home on December 7, 2023.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She attended Trenton Public School and graduated with the class of 1948. &nbsp;As a result of Normal Training in high school, Arda taught in Hitchcock County rural schools for 3 years. &nbsp;In order to renew her teaching certificate, Arda attended Anderson College in Indiana, Morningside College in Iowa, McCook Junior College, and Kearney State College while continuing to teach in rural schools for 5 years and then kindergarten and elementary music in Stratton Public School for several years. Arda had a beautiful soprano voice and sang for many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions as a young woman.

&nbsp; &nbsp; In 1960, Arda married Willard (Bill) Latta in Trenton, Nebraska. To this union, two sons were born: Mark and Casey. Bill and Arda had been married for 47 years when Bill passed away in 2007. Arda stayed on the farm north of Stratton until moving to McCook in 2008. &nbsp;In 2013 she moved to the retirement home now known as Kinship Pointe in McCook. Arda was a long-time member of Community United Methodist Church in Stratton, teaching Sunday School, VBS, and Confirmation class for many years. While in McCook, she attended Memorial United Methodist Church. Prayer life was very important to Arda and she was faithful in her prayers for family and friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; special aunt, Ellen Odell; and sister, Donna Hidy.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include two sons, Mark and wife, Kathy (Goodenberger) of McCook and Casey and wife, Terri Dunn of Holland, Nebraska; grandchildren: Jack and wife, Maggie (Sanders) Latta of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Katie and husband, Christian Farrell of McCook, and Max and Nora Latta of Holland; great-granddaughter, Margo Farrell; and many other family and friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Arda Carola Hidy was born March 7, 1931, to Carl and Zella (Persinger) Hidy on a farm near Trenton, Nebraska. &nbsp;She passed on to her heavenly home on December 7, 2023.&nbsp; &nbsp; She attended Trenton Public School and graduated with the class of 1948. &nbsp;As a result of Normal Training in high school, Arda taught in Hitchcock County rural schools for 3 years. &nbsp;In order to renew her teaching certificate, Arda attended Anderson College in Indiana, Morningside College in Iowa, McCook Junior College, and Kearney State College while continuing to teach in rural schools for 5 years and then kindergarten and elementary music in Stratton Public School for several years. Arda had a beautiful soprano voice and sang for many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions as a young woman.&nbsp; &nbsp; In 1960, Arda married Willard (Bill) Latta in Trenton, Nebraska. To this union, two sons were born: Mark and Casey. Bill and Arda had been married for 47 years when Bill passed away in 2007. Arda stayed on the farm north of Stratton until moving to McCook in 2008. &nbsp;In 2013 she moved to the retirement home now known as Kinship Pointe in McCook. Arda was a long-time member of Community United Methodist Church in Stratton, teaching Sunday School, VBS, and Confirmation class for many years. While in McCook, she attended Memorial United Methodist Church. Marvin Metzer, of McCook, passed away on December 4, 2023 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.&nbsp; He was 96 years of age.

Marvin Metzer (1927-2023)

Rosalee R. “Rosie” Kerk, 90, of Rapid City, SD formerly of Chappell, NE died Friday, December 8, 2023, at The Good Samaritan Society St. Martin Village in Rapid City.

As per her wishes, she was cremated. A private graveside burial in the Lodgepole cemetery will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and plants, a memorial has been established in Rosie’s name to support education and care of special needs children.

Rosalee Rae Kerk was born May 23, 1933, in Trenton, NE to Sydney G. and Golda M. (Williams) Finch. The family moved to Crook, CO and eventually Oshkosh, NE where she graduated from Garden County High School in 1951. She was active in Job’s Daughters and served as Honored Queen for Bethel #46 in Oshkosh. She went on to get her teaching certificate at Kearney State Teacher’s College and was the drum majorette for the marching band. While home on break, she was working at her parents’ drugstore in Lodgepole as a “soda jerk” where she met a young sailor by the name of Willard Kerk.&nbsp; They were married on June 19, 1955, at the Lodgepole Methodist church.

They made their home in Sidney, where Rosie was a Kindergarten teacher, and she gave birth to their three children: Lana, Carter and Andy. The family moved to Lakewood, CO in 1961 and 3 years later, decided to leave the bustle of the city and move back home to be closer to family.

They settled in Chappell, NE in 1963 where her husband was the owner/operator of the Kerk Barber Shop. &nbsp;&nbsp;Rosie tended to the home and children, was troop leader for Girl Scouts and den leader for Cub Scouts. She worked as a teacher’s aide and taught special ed preschoolers in Sidney at Service Unit #13.&nbsp; Rosie attended Chadron State College and in 1981 earned her bachelor’s degree. (She got to experience dorm life and roommates too!)&nbsp; She retired from her teaching job in Sidney in 1998 but continued to volunteer to listen to young children learning to read in the Chappell school system. She LOVED children!

Rosie was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Chappell where she belonged to circle, taught Sunday School, choir, sewed banners, gave the children’s sermon, and helped serve funeral dinners.

Rosie enjoyed sewing and painting while family and friends enjoyed her dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. Rosie served on the advisory board for Home Health/Hospice, served as a hospice and CASA volunteer.

Survivors include her husband, Willard of Rapid City, SD; one daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Chris McCoy of Grand Island, NE; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carter and Colleen Kerk of Rapid City and Andy and Julie Kerk of Hartland, WI; seven grandchildren Nicholas (Crystal) Frederick, Anthony (Melissa) Frederick, Josie (Jacob) Davis, Janna (Tanner) Nelson, Steven Kerk, Sam (Claire) Kerk, Jonah (fiancé-Susie) Kerk and eleven great-grandchildren with the twelfth one on the way, and a host of extended cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Dolores Finch, and 3 beloved pets, Frosty, Pepper and Jazzy.

Rosalee "Rosie" Kerk (1933-2023)

Larry George Long, passed away at Centennial Park Retirement Village at the age of 83, on December 5, 2023. The son of George and Wilma (Wilson) Long, he was born on August 30, 1940, in North Platte.

Larry grew up with three things running through his veins: horses, ranching, and rodeo. From a very young age, he was riding horses, and by his teenage years, he was competing as a calf roper, steer wrestler, and team roper. Larry graduated from North Platte High School in 1958 and continued working with his dad on the ranch. On October 2, 1960, he was wed to Mary Ann Gordon and the couple had a son, Doug.

Larry was involved in the Nebraska State Rodeo Association, serving as association president for two terms. In the early 1970’s, he became a member of the Rodeo Cowboys Association, known today as the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association. Larry also competed at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo several times. After his rodeo career ended in the 90’s, he became a member of the committee. In 1996, Larry was selected as the Trail Boss Award winner for the Buffalo Bill Rodeo; the same award that his dad and great-uncle had received 22 years earlier.

With an extensive history and passion for rodeo, Larry’s greatest achievement was his family. He loved his wife, son, and grandchildren immensely and was proud of the family he had helped to create.

Those left to cherish Larry’s memory include his son, Doug (Bonnie) Long of North Platte; granddaughter, Amanda Miller; great grandson, Christopher Miller; other family and friends.

Along with his wife, Mary Ann, Larry is preceded in death by his parents.

Robert “Baby Joe” Bone, 79 of Ogallala, NE died Wednesday, October 15, 2023, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.

Robert was born June 30, 1944, in Pleasant Hill, AR to Powell and Lois (Winfree) Bone. As a young child, the family moved to Yuma, AZ and he attended Yuma public schools and graduated from Yuma High School in 1962.

Robert met Barbara Parsons and they were married in 1967 in Yuma, AZ, where Robert worked for Greyhound.&nbsp; In 1988, Robert and Barbara divorced.

Robert continued working for Greyhound until his retirement in 2006. Robert traveled until settling down in Ogallala, NE.

Robert is preceded in death by both his parents, two brothers, and a sister.

Robert is survived by two sons; Chris Bone of Ogallala, NE, and Robert (Annie) Bone of Longmont, CO; two daughters; Seana Blankenfeld of Ogallala, NE, and Melani Bone of Brule, NE; one brother Don (Mona) Bone of Tucson, AZ; four granddaughters; Amanda (Tommy) Turnure of Ogallala, NE, Kaitlyn (Talon) Richardson of Ogallala, NE, Olivia (Conner) Stevens of Roscoe, NE and Alyssa Bone of Longmont, CO; three grandsons; Shawn Bone of Ogallala, NE, Kyle Blankenfeld of California and Ryan Blankenfeld; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert J Bone (1944-2023)

Dean Lake, 93, of Oshkosh passed away early Tuesday morning, December 5, 2023 in Scottsbluff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Oshkosh with Father Michael McDonald and Deacon Dixon Powers officiating. Interment will be held at Antelope Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Dean Robert Lake was born April 8, 1930 in Oshkosh to Irene Roberta (Pebley) and Harold Robert Lake, the oldest of three children.&nbsp; He was a proud older brother to Betty and Dallas.&nbsp; A younger brother, Martin, died in infancy.

Dean attended Antelope Valley School and the Hutchinson School north of Oshkosh and graduated from Garden County High School in 1947.&nbsp; As a boy, he loved to hunt and explore with his cousin Charlie Lake, his brother Dallas and many friends.&nbsp; He was always a favorite among his classmates and he kept in touch with all of them as often as he could.&nbsp;

Dean married Delores Krajewski in 1950 and they enjoyed over 72 years together on the farm before both moving to the Garden County Nursing Home in December of 2022.&nbsp; They farmed together, raised children together, attended church together, and fished together.&nbsp; They were always together and wouldn’t have had it any other way.

&nbsp;Dean and Delores at first rented land from his grandparents, Jules and Marie Lake then bought the farm/ranch where they lived.&nbsp; During his lifetime, he raised cattle, hogs, corn, wheat, alfalfa, millet, oats, cane, and harvested prairie hay.&nbsp; Like all great farmers, he kept very busy.

Dean was involved in many organizations including St. Elizabeth Parish Council, NRD Board, FSA Board, Hutchinson School Board, and wore out three cars traveling to National Farmer’s Organization meetings.

Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Martin, his parents, his wife, Delores, his sister Betty and husband Virgil Ring, his in laws, Fritz Kraski, Rita Kraski Schmidt, Alvin Krajewski, Rich and Mary Lou Krajewski, Budd and Lorene Leeper and many close friends and family.

Dean is survived by his four children: Ron (Betsy) Lake of Palisades, Washington, Patricia (Allen) Peters of Minatare, John (Elaine) Lake of Oshkosh, and Debra (Bruce) Conklin of Scottsbluff; Five granddaughters: Lisa Lake of Bothell, Washington, Kathy Peters of Scottsbluff, Shelley {Trevor} Votruba of Gretna, Jenna (Randy) Ross of Lewellen, and Celean {Zach} Eckert of Hastings. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Austin, Aubrey, and Autumn Votruba, Brynlee, Bryson and Bryleigh Ross, and Weston Eckert.

 </figure>Dean Lake, 93, of Oshkosh passed away early Tuesday morning, December 5, 2023 in Scottsbluff.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Oshkosh with Father Michael McDonald and Deacon Dixon Powers officiating. Interment will be held at Antelope Valley Cemetery.Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.The funeral service will be streamed live via the Holechek-Bondegard Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/hbfunerals) and available to watch after the service.Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Lake family.Memorials in Dean’s name can be made to the family for later designation.Dean Robert Lake was born April 8, 1930 in Oshkosh to Irene Roberta (Pebley) and Harold Robert Lake, the oldest of three children.&nbsp; He was a proud older brother to Betty and Dallas.&nbsp; A younger brother, Martin, died in infancy.Dean attended Antelope Valley School and the Hutchinson School north of Oshkosh and graduated from Garden County High School in 1947.&nbsp; As a boy, he loved to hunt and explore with his cousin Charlie Lake, his brother Dallas and many friends.&nbsp; He was always a favorite among his classmates and he kept in touch with all of them as often as he could.&nbsp;Dean married Delores Krajewski in 1950 and they enjoyed over 72 years together on the farm before both moving to the Garden County Nursing Home in December of 2022.&nbsp; They farmed together, raised children together, attended church together, and fished together.&nbsp; They were always together and wouldn’t have had it any other way.&nbsp;Dean and Delores at first rented land from his grandparents, Jules and Marie Lake then bought the farm/ranch where they lived.&nbsp; During his lifetime, he raised cattle, hogs, corn, wheat, alfalfa, millet, oats, cane, and harvested prairie hay.&nbsp; Like all great farmers, he kept very busy.Dean was involved in many organizations including St. Elizabeth Parish Council, NRD Board, FSA Board, Hutchinson School Board, and wore out three cars traveling to National Farmer’s Organization meetings.Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Martin, his parents, his wife, Delores, his sister Betty and husband Virgil Ring, his in laws, Fritz Kraski, Rita Kraski Schmidt, Alvin Krajewski, Rich and Mary Lou Krajewski, Budd and Lorene Leeper and many close friends and family.Dean is survived by his four children: Ron (Betsy) Lake of Palisades, Washington, Patricia (Allen) Peters of Minatare, John (Elaine) Lake of Oshkosh, and Debra (Bruce) Conklin of Scottsbluff; Five granddaughters: Lisa Lake of Bothell, Washington, Kathy Peters of Scottsbluff, Shelley {Trevor} Votruba of Gretna, Jenna (Randy) Ross of Lewellen, and Celean {Zach} Eckert of Hastings. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Austin, Aubrey, and Autumn Votruba, Brynlee, Bryson and Bryleigh Ross, and Weston Eckert.

Donald Eichner (1936-2023)

Nicole “Nikki” Jo Knepp, 49, of North Platte, NE passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Great Plains Health Hospital.

Nikki was born on March 17, 1974 in Sidney, NE the daughter of Jacquelin Ora Wilson (Williams). &nbsp;

Nikki loved the Christmas holidays and especially spending time with her family. &nbsp;She was a member of the Moose and Eagles auxiliary and enjoyed playing pool and camping over the years. &nbsp;She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Nikki’s memory are her husband, Jonathan Dean Knepp; son, William Dennis Butrick; daughter, Alexis Rose Knepp all of North Platte; brothers, Frank Lee Fries and Richard Fries both of North Platte; uncle and aunt, Steve and Bonnie Pursley of North Platte; special niece and great nephews, Chauntel Fries and Kaydan, Brycen, and Mason Fries; special friend, Jennifer Houchin; as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and relatives.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her dear mother, Jacquelin with whom she will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery near Hershey.

A celebration of Nikki’s life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 1-6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1600 W E St, North Platte in the coffee fellowship room. &nbsp;Family and guests are asked to enter the church through the Northwest doors off the parking lot. &nbsp;Private burial of her cremains will be held at Riverside Cemetery near Hershey. &nbsp;Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte has been entrusted with the arrangements. &nbsp;

Nicole "Nikki" Knepp (1974-2023)

Carla J. Minnema passed away at the Grand Island Regional Hospital on November 30, 2023,&nbsp;in Grand Island,&nbsp;NE at age 58.&nbsp;

Carla Jean Minnema was born on August 12, 1965,&nbsp;to Harley Linn and Della Cudaback in Superior Nebraska. She lived some of her childhood in Callaway where most of her relatives come from. The other part of her childhood was spent in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Carla decided to leave home at the early age&nbsp;of 16 to figure out her future. She got her GED later in life and ended up in California where she met her husband,&nbsp;Wesley Minnema. They were married on June 8, 1984,&nbsp;in Michigan. The union of their marriage brought them three daughters: Lora, Jaimie, and Jackie. The family eventually moved back to Nebraska and lived in various places, but Custer County was their home for most of their life.

Carla went to college in 2003 at Mid-Plains Community College and became an LPN. She graduated in the 99th&nbsp;percentile of her class. She worked in a lot of different nursing homes, but her greatest&nbsp;passion was&nbsp;working with individuals with disabilities. She always had a unique way&nbsp;of helping them. She was loved by so many people,&nbsp;and she gave love to&nbsp;so many people especially through her love of food. Her favorite pastimes have always been&nbsp;feeding people, listening to music, fishing with her grandkids, spending time with her daughters, and other relatives. She will be missed by everyone that met her.

Carla is survived by her daughters; Lora (Kevin) Burton, Jaimie Minnema and grandkids&nbsp;Allen and Aubrey, Jackie Minnema and grandkids Tia and Logan. brothers Forest (Monica) Linn, Monte Linn, and Larry Linn, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carla was proceeded in death by her grandparents, parents, husband Wesley Minnema, and sisters Elizabeth Phelps and Carol Ross.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held in Broken Bow, NE on December 15, 2023,&nbsp;at the Church of Jesus&nbsp;Christ of Latter-Day&nbsp;Saints at 2:00 p.m.&nbsp;

Phyllis Jean Hauptmeier, 84, of Kearney (formerly of Overton) died peacefully at her home on December 2, 2023, surrounded by family.

 </figure>Phyllis Jean Hauptmeier, 84, of Kearney (formerly of Overton) died peacefully at her home on December 2, 2023, surrounded by family.Phyllis was born on May 5, 1939, in Creston, Iowa, to Elmer and Beatrice (Wycoff-Abbott) Hetland. She attended Creston Public Schools and graduated in 1957. She then went on to attend Creston Junior College, graduating in 1959. She finished her bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1961.On June 11, 1961 (three days after graduating from college) Phyllis married the love of her life, Larry Hauptmeier. Four children were blessed to this marriage: Becky, Tyler, Sara, and Beth. Over the years, they took in and cared for many children they considered “bonus children,” including Linda (Henry) Wade.Their marriage began in Ames, Iowa, where Phyllis taught First Grade for three years and helped put Larry through veterinary school. After Larry graduated, they moved to Overton where Phyllis supported and assisted him in opening and operating the Overton Veterinary Clinic.&nbsp; She also was a substitute teacher in many area schools until she was 79 years old.Throughout her life, Phyllis served as a leader in every organization she was a part of. Phyllis was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, where she was active in many church organizations and functions. She was also very involved in many activities and organizations in her community of Overton. Some of her many clubs and associations include Overton School Board member and officer, PEO, extension club, bible study, Crossways leader, church altar guild and the Lutheran’s Women Missionary League (LWML). She was the director and a teacher at Trinity Lutheran Little Lamb Preschool. Phyllis was also a member and past president of the Auxiliary of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).One of the great passions of Phyllis’ life was teaching and learning. From her degree in education to her years as a teacher and substitute teacher to serving as a bible study leader, Phyllis always wanted to share knowledge with others.Phyllis enjoyed entertaining and getting together with her wonderful friends from church and her community. She was always prepared and had an extra plate set at the table for spontaneous guests. Her other hobbies included reading, playing cards, sewing, cooking, traveling and genealogy. Phyllis and Larry traveled to all fifty states and six of the seven the continents; tracing her roots and visiting family in Norway was her favorite. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Phyllis was an exceptional mother, grandmother, and wife. She set a wonderful example of being a Faithful servant of the Lord, an active and caring member of her community, and a compassionate woman whose door was always open to those in need. Best of all, she was a model example of a family matriarch. She showed us how important spending time together creates lasting cohesiveness as a family.Phyllis left many to cherish her memory: her husband of 62 years, Larry, sister Rosalind (Bob) Mulvany of Pleasanton, CA, daughters Becky (Jeff) Marshall of Elm Creek, Sara Theoharis of Hastings, Beth (Kirk) MacGregor of Grangeville, ID, son Tyler (Melissa) Hauptmeier of Doniphan, grandchildren Lacy (Adam) Brown, Hannah (Blake) Hild, Leah (Gavin) Kenney, Tasia, Nikos, and Demetri Theoharis, Keely and Max MacGregor, and great-grandchildren Marshall, Jaxon, Lily, Zeke, and William Brown, Weston and Adelynn Hild, and Brielle, Raelynn, and Reid Kenney and many nieces and nephews.Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Fred and Martha Hauptmeier, brothers-in-law, Arlynn and Willard Hauptmeier, and sisters-in-law Marylyn Carlson and Darlene Hauptmeier, nephew Rod Hauptmeier and niece Terry Ricchio.Funeral Services will be on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating.
