Funeral Services for Virginia Sullivan will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10:30 am MT at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mullen. A Rosary will be held on Friday, September 29th at 7:00 pm at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mullen. The burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Thedford, NE. Aleita Virginia Boren was born December 22, 1933, to Cornelious Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Wyatt) Boren in Halsey, Nebraska. &nbsp;She was the 6th of 8 children. &nbsp;She attended school at the Halsey Schools, graduating in 1952. She was love, light, laughter, and encouragement. Virginia faced so many challenges and never realized how many lives she made better. Virginia passed away at Great Plains Medical Center on September 26th at the age of 89. &nbsp;

Virginia was hardworking from an early age and throughout her life. Her first job was babysitting for two children when she was 9 years old in Bremerton, Washington while parents worked in the shipyards during World War II. At age 12 she went to work washing dishes at the Halsey Cafe and later waited tables. &nbsp;In high school and a couple of years after marriage she worked in the nursery at the Halsey National Forest. &nbsp;Virginia married Don Sullivan in Mullen on June 16th, 1952, and had four children - David, Mary Ann, Donalee and Dennis.&nbsp;

Virginia’s true calling in life was caring for people. &nbsp;She applied for a job at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home when it was being built and started working before the doors were open for residents. &nbsp;Following her divorce, she worked several years as an aide before taking a year to become a Licensed Practical Nurse through the program in Kearney. She balanced kids, college, and every weekend she traveled home to work shifts at the nursing home. &nbsp; Her career at the nursing home was over 47 years and in that time, she also worked at the Mullen Clinic and Mullen Hospital. &nbsp;In her nursing career she was known for the compassion and respect she had for her patients and families.&nbsp;

Virginia loved to garden, work in her yard, crochet, and bake. She was an MHS fan of the year when her grandchildren were in high school. She loved surprising people with an unexpected kindness which could range anywhere from “My, you look beautiful today.” to an anonymous cash donation to someone in need. Her family can attest to her memorable sense of humor. &nbsp;She loved all her family but in most recent years delighted in the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Mary Boren, siblings Jesse and wife Kathy, Robert, Minnie and husband, Ken Troth, Laurella and husband, Jim McHugh, Mary Lea and husband, Alvin Standlea, and sister Bessie, son-in-law, Marv Carlock and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne Lilace Thompson Brown was born April 8, 1938 to Carl and Verda (Williams) Thompson in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; She died at the age of 85 on September 25, 2023 in North Platte after a long battle with Alzheimers. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne grew up in North Platte, Nebraska alongside her sister, Nancy.&nbsp; When the girls were young, they loved to dress the dogs, Twinkle and Blondie, up in doll clothes and pull them around in their wagons.&nbsp; During her early teen years, Loewayne played softball on the Eagle Teeners team and was an avid player.&nbsp; She passed her love of the sport on to her sons. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Adams Jr. High, and North Platte Senior High.&nbsp; On October 28, 1953, she married Billy J. Brown in Ogallala, Nebraska and had four sons: Douglas, Donald, Dwayne, and Darwin.&nbsp; They lived in Marysville, Kansas and Laramie Wyoming, and then moved back to North Platte in 1967. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne was a stay at home mom when the boys were young.&nbsp; Once they were all in school, she went to work for Little Pig Diner at Westfield Shopping Center, then Sears and Roebuck, The Gas Stop, and later, for the North Platte Telegraph in the circulation department. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She loved dogs, gardening (her favorite flowers were petunias and pansies), her Bunco Club, decorating for all the seasons and holidays, and finding treasures at auctions and garage sales. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne was preceded in death by her husband, Billy; and their sons Doug and Darwin; her parents; half-brothers, John "Johnny" and Everett Thompson; brothers-in-law, Richard Ridder and Leonard Brown; and sister-in-law, Carleen Tenpenny. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She is survived by her sons, Donald (Julie) Brown of North Platte, Nebraska and Dwayne (Renae) Brown of Cozad, Nebraska; grandchildren Lindsey (Mike) Richards and Sarah Brown of North Platte, Clayton (Taryn) Brown and Keenan Brown of Kearney, Nebraska, Cory (Laney) Brown of Cottonwood, California, Chelsie Brown and Crysta Brown of Red Bluff, California, Justin (Ashley) Brown and Jessica Brown of Omaha, Nebraska, and Cody Brown of Deer Park, Washington; great-grandchildren Braxton and Adaleigh Richards, Rori, Ridge and Rawlins Brown, Carter and Lacey Brown, McKenzie Banks, Bradyn and Astoria Brown, and Oscar and Owen Holtorf; her sister, Nancy Ridder of Callaway, Nebraska; and other family. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte, Nebraska with Job Vigil officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Memorials are to the North Platte Alzheimer's Support Group. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The memorial book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com or at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.

Loewayne Lilace Thompson Brown  (1938-2023)

Chyrel Diane (Morgan) Cerny passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023 in Callaway, Nebraska at the Good Life Center.&nbsp; Many friends said their final goodbyes over the weekend as we cheered for her beloved Huskers to win.

She was born on February 8, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska and placed for adoption with the Nebraska Children's Home.&nbsp; At four months old, she was legally adopted by Rolland and Naomi Morgan, nee Thomas.&nbsp; She was welcomed into the family by an adopted older brother, Ray.&nbsp; Chyrel attended elementary school in Loup City and Bloomfield.&nbsp; The family moved to Rushville when Chyrel was in the 8th grade.&nbsp; On June 17, 1965, Chyrel married Dell Cerny.&nbsp; They made their home in Gordon, Nebraska.&nbsp; While in Gordon, two daughters, Barbara and Marcia, were born.&nbsp; In 1974, Chyrel and Dell moved to Arnold, Nebraska.&nbsp; Chyrel was proud to live in Custer county where her adoptive family had homesteaded and farmed.&nbsp; She was even more proud to live near the Custer County Farm that her grandparents had managed before her arrival.

Chyrel enjoyed babysitting many local children through the years and loved baking cookies for them.&nbsp; In 1978, Chyrel gave birth to a third daughter, Jo Dee.&nbsp; In 1979, Chyrel and Dell purchased the Triangle Lanes Bowling Alley.&nbsp; Chyrell spent her evenings working at the snack bar and even learned to bowl a decent game.&nbsp; Chyrel loved to drink iced tea and visit with friends.&nbsp; No one had a softer heart than Chyrel.&nbsp; She didn't have a mean bone n her body.&nbsp; Although she probably teased people a littel too much and was pretty outspoken all the time, she loved people.&nbsp; She loved making people smile.&nbsp; Chyrel loved going along for the ride with Dell.&nbsp; They enjoyed camping, traveling on the motorcycle, and driving their classic cars to shows and dinner runs.&nbsp; But mostly, she enjoyed going to see family and friends.&nbsp; Chyrel like to play card games and felt it a great joy when her great grandkids would ask her to play.&nbsp; Chyrel was a part of the Charming Chicks Club in Arnold and a Women's Fireman's Auxiliary in North Platte.&nbsp; She proudly helped serve in duties that were part of Dell's job and appointments throughout her career.

In 1988, Chyrel found a biological sister, Judy Mamot, on her mother's side.&nbsp; In 2021, another sister was found on her father's side.&nbsp; Chyrel crammed a lot of lost years into building a relationship with her sister, Sherlene.&nbsp; She loved hearing how much she looked and acted like her father.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chyrel is preceded in death by her adoptive parents and brother; her birth mother, Dorothy Fleshman Ewers; two baby sisters; her birth father, William D. Bush; a half-brother, William (Billy) Bush, Jr; her youngest daughter, Jo Dee Hastings; and two granddaughters, LynDee and Paiton Hastings.

She is survived by her husband, Dell; sisters Sherlene (Robert) Stolley and Judy Mamot; daughters, Barbara (Michael) Gunther and Marcia (Scott) Gibson; grandchildren, Kayli (PJ) Hamburger, Britanny (Chris) Lehman, Shandell (Derick) Shelton, Tyann (Jacob) Pfisthner, and Jonathan Hastings; as well as nine great grandchildren, hadley, Hendryx, Hayden, Rex, Eirik, Ryatt, Christian, Rogen, and Anders; and three honorary grandchildren, Shayla, Isaac, and Jamie Tickle.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Central time at the Arnold United Methodist Church with Pastor Lana Day and Pastor Bill Williams officiating.&nbsp; The service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

The family requests to wear Husker Red for the service in honor of Chyrel's favorite team.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth Ernestine (Trute) Tripple, age 88, of Gering, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Heritage Estates in Gering.&nbsp; Ruth was born on March 9, 1935 in Yuma, Colorado to Ernest and Frieda (Goeglein) Trute.&nbsp; She was the second of three children.&nbsp; She received her schooling in Yuma, Colorado until they moved to Gering, Nebraska her senior year, and that is where she met her future husband, Don Tripple.&nbsp; She married Don on August 14, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth was a wonderful homemaker and life-long mate and partner to her husband, Don.&nbsp; She was an active farm wife and always there to help in any way needed.&nbsp; She enjoyed raising her vegetable gardens, canning the produce, was an excellent seamstress, and made the wedding dresses for her two daughters and daughter-in-law.&nbsp; One of Ruth's fondest memories was of her and Don raising sheep; she loved lambing season and always had a special touch with animals.&nbsp; Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a good friend to many.&nbsp; Ruth loved her Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for 57 years. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth is survived by her daughter, Nance (David) Sizemore of Colo, Iowa; son, Mike (Annita) Tripple of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and daughter, Connie (Jerry) Harms of Gering, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was blessed with five grandchildren: Kelli (Tyson) Harper, Mindi (Darrell) Woolsey, David Ray Sizemore, Joseph (Bri) Sizemore, and Dillon (Emily) Tripple; and eight great-grandchildren: Luke, Leah and Lacy Harper, Liam, Landon and Easton Woolsey, Julian Sizemore, and Jaxsen Tripple.&nbsp; She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Knapp of North Platte, Nebraska and brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Barbara Trute of Yuma, Colorado; as well as many nieces and nephews. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Don Tripple (2019); her parents, Ernest &amp; Frieda Trute; in-laws, Fred &amp; Mollie Tripple; infant son, Jacob; and brother-in-law, Duane Kanpp. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in the knowledge that Ruth is safe in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.&nbsp; The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heritage Estates and Regional West Hospice for their love and care of Ruth. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A Funeral Service for Ruth will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Mountain time at Faith Lutheran Church in Gering, Nebraska with Reverend Richard Neugebauer officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Memorials may be given to the family for designation at a later date.&nbsp; Fond memories and messages of sympathy may be left for the family at www.geringchapel.com.

Waylon Carpenter  (1974-2023)

F. Elizabeth (Statz) Woodside departed this life on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 98. Elizabeth was born to William and Hazel (Adamson) Statz at the family home in Nelson, Nebraska, on August 7, 1925. However, the doctor did not sign the birth certificate until August 10th, which then became her official birthdate. This made for much confusion when asked when her birthday was.

Elizabeth graduated from Nelson High School in 1943. She attended Hastings College and received her teaching certificate. She taught two years at a small country school in the Nelson area, and then moved to Cozad, Nebraska in 1946 to teach sixth grade. Her future father-in-law, Ray Woodside, was the first person to greet her in Cozad. For three of the years she taught in Cozad, she boarded a room at Ray and Martha Woodside’s home. She later taught in North Platte and Scottsbluff, before returning to Cozad to marry Harlan Woodside on June 15, 1952.

Elizabeth was baptized and confirmed at the Nelson Christian Church. Church was always an important facet of Elizabeth’s life. She because a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church (which later became Parkview United Methodist Church) after her marriage. She was active in the life of the church by teaching nursery school for 8 years, serving as lay leader, and serving in different capacities with the United Methodist Women. Elizabeth created banners and bulletin boards displayed and enjoyed by church members.

Family life was important to Elizabeth. Harlan was the love of her life, and this union was blessed with children Patsy, John, Steven, and Susan. She created a loving home and filled her days with her excellent cooking, sewing, gardening, and canning. She loved attending her children’s activities and supporting them.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Her father was killed by lightning when Elizabeth was 12, and her mother was left to raise the children and run the family farm. Elizabeth came by her strength naturally. Elizabeth continued to live in the family home after Harlan’s death until her death. Tragedy struck on September 7, 2023, when daughter Patsy Ann died in her Omaha home.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children John (Lisa) Woodside of Salem, South Carolina; Steven (Joni) Woodside of Columbus, Nebraska; and Susan Woodside (Clay Stonestreet) of Cozad, Nebraska. She is loved and missed by her grandchildren Darren (Jennifer) Woodside of Niceville, Florida; Matthew Pella (fiancé Cidney Hemingway); Chelsey (Brandon) Jacobitz of Holstein, Nebraska; Dustin (Sarah) Woodside of San Antonio, Texas; Zachary Pella of Denver, Colorado; Renae Pella (fiancé Franklin Magana) of Denver, Colorado; and Christina Woodside of Columbus, Nebraska. She was blessed with great grandchildren Grayson and Harlyn Pella, Hope and Hannah Woodside, and Conrad and Reese Woodside; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Elizabeth lived a full life and enjoyed visiting with people. She loved her coffee, cappuccino, and strawberry shakes. Pies were a specialty of hers, which is something she shared with her mother. Family get-togethers were never complete without her delicious potato salad. In these later years, she would say “those were the days, my friend.” She touched many lives through her teaching and church work, and we have been blessed to be a part of her life.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ixcel Lopez, of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away suddenly at the young age of two on September 24, 2023, at The Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was born on March 16, 2021, in Kearney, Nebraska to Leodegario Lopez and Maria Lopez. She was a sweet little girl with a heart full of kindness and brought immense happiness to her family. She would wake up each morning craving ice cream. Showing mom her bright smile, she couldn't resist giving her at least a little bite to start her day. Ixcel had an unyielding love for fruits, especially strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, and grapes. She was such a friendly girl, she loved waving at everyone who would pass by her. One of Ixcel's greatest joys in life was spending time with her cousins, creating fun lasting memories. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Johnny, Johnny and Baby Shark were some of Ixcel's favorite songs. She loved having her mom sing along with her. Ixcel loved taking baths and would often take three or four every day just to get a chance to play in the water. She loved getting to spend quality time with her dad and loved him so much. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ixcel liked to be mischievous at times and would write on the walls of her house and even her grandparents' house! Though it sometimes meant a bit of messiness for her family, they cherished every mark left behind. Stuffed animals and stickers were among Ixcel's favorite toys. Her favorite thing to do was to dance! She could dance for hours to her favorite music. As a big sister to her little brother, Ixcel embraced the role with boundless love and care. She loved being an older sister and liked to play little pranks on her baby brother by hiding his pacifier or sneaking off with his milk bottles. Ixcel Lopez  (2021-2023)

Susan Gayle Allen, 77, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington.

She was born on August 10, 1946, in Lexington, Nebraska to Thomas and Phyllis (Sawin) Strohmyer. She attended rural, city and St. Ann's Catholic school. On October 10, 1962, Susan was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert William Allen at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this union: Tracy, Charlene, and Chad. Robert and Susan dedicated 25 years to fostering 265 children. This included children from the State of Nebraska Wards, the Dawson County Wards, and the Foster Parent of Central Nebraska Wards. Susan began working as a contract provider for the State of Nebraska Childcare Chore and Family Support Services beginning in 1984. She then moved on to working for social services with the State of Nebraska from 1997 until her retirement in 2016.

Susan was an incredibly active member in her community. She was a Boy Scouts mother as well as a member of the VFW Auxiliary 5136. She served on the first State of Nebraska Foster Care Review Board and the first Dawson County Parent Child Center Board. She served on the Lexington Childcare Center Board and the Dawson Gosper County Foster Parent Association. She also helped introduce the Special Olympics in the Lexington Public School system. She received Mother of the Year in 1978 as well as the Area III Special Family Award for the 1988-1989 year. She was an instrumental part in starting the Crisis Line in Lexington and would often spend countless hours answering calls overnight at home while the other volunteers were being trained. Susan was a selfless and incredibly caring person who wanted nothing more than to help her community as best as she could.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robert Tracy (Laura) Allen of Apple Valley, California, and Chad Thomas (Maria) Allen of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; daughter, Charlene (Danny) Hardy of Sulphur, Louisiana; grandchildren, JuliaAnn Grace Allen, Robert Thomas Allen, Courtney Allen, and Abigayle Allen; great-grandson, William Robert Allen.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for Bobby and Norma Regalado, and Chris and Terri Ferral for the wonderful care they have provided during Susan's time of need. Thank you from Tracy, Chad, and Charlene.

Susan G Allen (1946-2023)

&nbsp; Joyce Elaine Behrends, daughter of Orval and Ora (Gerdes) Behrends, was born February 20, 1950 in Auburn, Nebraska. She was one of three children born to this union.

Joyce was baptized on March 26, 1950 by Rev. C. H. Goede and was confirmed on March 22, 1964 by Rev. Walter Lentz, both at St. John's Lutheran (Stone) Church near Auburn, Nebraska. She was an organist at this church during her high school and business college years.

She graduated from Johnson Public School in 1968 and from the Lincoln School of Commerce in 1969. A few weeks before her graduation, she was employed by the Lincoln School of Commerce as Secretary to the President and later also assumed the responsibilities of Office Manager.

On July 21, 1973, she was united in marriage to Lynn LeRoy Fortkamp at St. John's Lutheran (Stone) Church. Three sons - Jerel Lynn, Deven Leon, Kelen Leroy - were born to this union.

The couple lived in Curtis, Nebraska for three years. They made their home south of Champion in 1976 and began farming. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and had served as an LYF sponsor, Zeal member, Mid-Week teacher, and Bell Choir member. She had also served on the Chase County Community Hospital Board. She had been employed part-time at the Frontier County Welfare Office, H &amp; R Block, Zion Lutheran Church, and Imperial Lanes.

Spending time with her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, with reading books to her grandchildren the most important. She also enjoyed working with her husband on the farm, gardening, sewing &amp; crafts, and visiting with family &amp; friends.

In 1999 she was diagnosed with IPF, followed by congenital heart failure. Since that time she endured many hospital stays and the rest of her time was spent at home, enjoying visits from family and friends.

Joyce passed away September 25, 2023 at her home, having reached the age of 73 years.

She was preceded in death by her father Orval in 1990, her mother, Ora in 2019, sister, Marilyn Knippelmeyer in 2021, nephew-Godchild Brandon Behrends in 1993.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband Lynn of Champion; son Jerel and wife Mary and children Andrew and Sophie of Imperial; son, Deven of Salina, KS; son Kelen and wife Elizabeth and children Jason, Taylor, and Alex of Imperial; brother Eldon Behrends and wife Susan of Tucson, AZ; brother-in-law Jerry Knippelmeyer of Auburn, NE; nieces DeAnn, Sandi, Darcie, Serina; many Behrends &amp; Gerdes &amp; Fortkamp relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at Liewer Funeral Home on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M. Mountain Time with family receiving friends from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. Mountain Time.

A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. Mountain Time with Pastor Scott Adle officiating.

Joyce Fortkamp (1950-2023)

Loren Larington of McCook, Nebraska passed away September 23, 2023 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was 90 years old.

Loren Wayne Larington was born August 14, 1933 near Cedar Bluffs, in Decatur County, Kansas to DeVere Emery and Doris Irene (McKillip) Larington.&nbsp; He was the third of nine children born to this union.&nbsp; After spending his first years of childhood in the Traer, Kansas area living in a sod house, the family moved to the Box Elder community north of McCook.&nbsp; Loren attended rural Brunt Hills school in Frontier County for his elementary education and graduated from Red Willow High School east of McCook in 1953.&nbsp; In high school, he participated in football and track and as a senior he drove the school bus.

Loren was drafted into the Army of the United States in 1956 serving until 1958.&nbsp; He served in Korea for 13 months as PFC foot soldier squad leader, with his final rank being SP3.&nbsp; He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.&nbsp; Loren then served two years in the Army Reserves reporting to Fort Lewis, Washington.&nbsp;

On January 16, 1960, Loren was united in marriage to Iva Mae Echelberger in McCook.&nbsp; To this union, four children were born:&nbsp; Deborah Kay, David Wayne, Daniel James, and Andrea Irene.

Loren spent his life farming and ranching north of McCook in Frontier County.&nbsp; In later years, he enjoyed driving to town to have a cup of coffee and a good visit with friends.&nbsp; &nbsp;His love for the soil led him to take up gardening in his retirement years.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Nile Lewis Larington and DeVere Emery Larington, Jr.; and sisters Nadene Roeene Frank, Jeannette June Henning, Ardis Mae Roche, and Delores Jane Howell.

Survivors include daughters Deborah (Robert) Rose of Grand Island and Andrea (Mike) Castor of North Platte; sons, David (Maria) Larington of Las Vegas, NV and Daniel (Michelle) Larington of McCook; grandchildren, Tosha Gott of Hastings, Tim (DeEtta) Rose of Central City, Alicia Castor and James Burke North Platte, Sara (Jack) Loomis of Hayes Center, Dane (Abby) Larington of McCook, and James Fonteboa of Las Vegas, NV.&nbsp; Loren is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren Jaiden, Colin, Benicio, Jesse, Ryker, Elliott, Damon, Emily, and Kayla.

Loren is survived by siblings; Dale Lynn (Terry) Larington of Ogallala and Linda Kay Eppinger of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

Loren W. Larington (1933-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Byron Dale Peters was born in Red Willow County, Nebraska on March 6, 1923 to Ira Ernest and Maggie (Woods) Peters. &nbsp;He attended rural school through the eighth grade and joined his family on the family farm. &nbsp;Byron enlisted in the United States Army on September 30, 1942 and served as a military police officer. &nbsp;Bryon rose to the rank of private first class and received his honorable discharge in December of 1945.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Byron married Shirley Bailey on February 28, 1989 in Oberlin, Kansas. &nbsp;The couple lived in Red Willow County for their entire marriage where Byron worked the family farm and ran a custom hay bailing business. &nbsp;Byron loved to hunt, fish, and shoot all types of guns. &nbsp;These passions led to his memberships in the McCook Gun Club, the American Trapshooting Association, and the Nebraska Trapshooting Association. &nbsp;Byron was also a member of the National Rifle Association. &nbsp;He loved spending time with his grandsons.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Byron passed away at his home in McCook on Friday evening, September 22, 2023. &nbsp;He was 100 years of age.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin and Cloyd Peters; and his sister, Betty Overby.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Shirley Peters of McCook; daughters, Michelle (Patrick) Donovan of McCook and Meloney McVicker of Omaha; grandchildren: Paxton and Beka McVicker of McCook, Alex and Taylor Donovan of Firth, Nebraska, and Jake McVicker of Rapid City, South Dakota; as well as the Apple of His Eye, great-granddaughter, Emery Nova McVicker, also of McCook.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and Byron's family will honor his wishes to be inurned at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. &nbsp;Graveside services will take place at Fort McPherson on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 1PM with full Military Honors.

 </figure>&nbsp; &nbsp; Byron Dale Peters was born in Red Willow County, Nebraska on March 6, 1923 to Ira Ernest and Maggie (Woods) Peters. &nbsp;He attended rural school through the eighth grade and joined his family on the family farm. &nbsp;Byron enlisted in the United States Army on September 30, 1942 and served as a military police officer. &nbsp;Bryon rose to the rank of private first class and received his honorable discharge in December of 1945.&nbsp; &nbsp; Byron married Shirley Bailey on February 28, 1989 in Oberlin, Kansas. &nbsp;The couple lived in Red Willow County for their entire marriage where Byron worked the family farm and ran a custom hay bailing business. &nbsp;Byron loved to hunt, fish, and shoot all types of guns. &nbsp;These passions led to his memberships in the McCook Gun Club, the American Trapshooting Association, and the Nebraska Trapshooting Association. &nbsp;Byron was also a member of the National Rifle Association. &nbsp;He loved spending time with his grandsons.&nbsp; &nbsp; Byron passed away at his home in McCook on Friday evening, September 22, 2023. &nbsp;He was 100 years of age.&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin and Cloyd Peters; and his sister, Betty Overby.&nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Shirley Peters of McCook; daughters, Michelle (Patrick) Donovan of McCook and Meloney McVicker of Omaha; grandchildren: Paxton and Beka McVicker of McCook, Alex and Taylor Donovan of Firth, Nebraska, and Jake McVicker of Rapid City, South Dakota; as well as the Apple of His Eye, great-granddaughter, Emery Nova McVicker, also of McCook.&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and Byron's family will honor his wishes to be inurned at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. &nbsp;Graveside services will take place at Fort McPherson on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 1PM with full Military Honors.&nbsp; &nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the family of Byron Peters for future designation. &nbsp;Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. &nbsp;Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Hallelujah, Hallelujah! &nbsp; Monte R. Rogers was lifted from this earthly world and joined the Lord in His heavenly home on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Monte was born to Clarence and Sylvia (Mitchem) Rogers on July 6, 1927. &nbsp;Monte was one of six children born to this union which included siblings: Gloria, Bud (Clarence Jr.), Ed, Marilyn, and Joanne. &nbsp;The family lived in McCook and then in Kearney for a time while his father recovered from tuberculosis. &nbsp;Monte attended school through the eighth grade in McCook. &nbsp;He was soon drafted into the United States Army in 1945. &nbsp;He served most of his time in Germany where he worked and taught orphan youngsters. &nbsp;His best memory of this time was that he had taught kids “how to play ball!” &nbsp;He also was a driver for the officers at the base.

&nbsp; &nbsp; After his discharge, he returned to the States where he worked at the McCook Ice Plant, then a stint in Gillette, Wyoming in road construction and working in the coal fields. &nbsp;It was when he returned to Nebraska that he worked for the Nebraska Highway Department near Palisade, Nebraska that he met Alberta Shrefler who lived in Palisade. &nbsp;Their romance blossomed and they were married on November 27, 1948. &nbsp;They welcomed two sons soon after, Richard “Dick” and Gary. &nbsp;They resided in the Victory Addition in northwest McCook.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Monte learned the art of painting when he worked for Leo Stevens Painting Company. &nbsp;His brother, Ed, and Monte soon established a partnership, Rogers Brothers Painting and Wallpapering. &nbsp;This company evolved into Monte Rogers and Sons Painting when his two sons joined the business in the 1960s. &nbsp;Monte was always up for new challenges. &nbsp;He began an Air-Lok manufacturing company where he and his son, Dick, custom-built windows and storm doors. &nbsp;He also ventured into patio coverings, roofing, and siding. &nbsp;Monte needed to stay busy, so in his later years, he established a fleet of rentals. &nbsp;Monte worked his entire life until he finally retired in 2013. &nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Monte enjoyed spending time at the lake on his pontoon boats and with his camper. &nbsp;He also enjoyed trips around the United States, including Southa Dakota, Texas, and Hawaii. &nbsp;He was the best gardener, growing ample produce and sharing it with family and friends. &nbsp;Having a nice home and a beautiful yard were important to Monte.

&nbsp; Monte belonged to the McCook Art Guild and was a gifted painter. &nbsp;He enjoyed being there and sharing his talents with others. &nbsp;Music was also a passion for Monte. &nbsp;He was a self-learned and accomplished musician that included the guitar, steel guitar, harmonica, violin, and singing vocals. &nbsp;In his later years, he travelled to the area retirement homes and nursing homes, performing gospel music for the residents. &nbsp;Many times, he had a band, and they would travel with him. &nbsp;The smiles he brought to the others were priceless. &nbsp;He attended music festivals in the area, often as a participant. &nbsp;Later, Monte added another dimension to his life; he developed an interest in golf and enjoyed a good round with anyone that wanted to play.

&nbsp; &nbsp; The love of the lord was most prevalent in Monte’s entire life. &nbsp;He grew up in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and served as an Elder, Deacon, and Conference Board Member. &nbsp;Sabbath was most important to Monte, and he observed it fully. &nbsp;His belief in the Lord never wavered and he demonstrated it daily in his life. &nbsp;Monte always had a ready smile and an ear for listening. &nbsp;He enjoyed humor. &nbsp;He definitely could hold his end of the conversation. &nbsp;Monte enjoyed being a Husband, Dad, and Grandpa in his family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; After Alberta’s passing in 2000, Monte later met and married Marlene Snyder on January 5, 2002.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alberta; and siblings, Gloria, Bud, Ed, and Marilyn.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Monte leaves behind his wife, Marlene; and his two sons, Richard (Peggy) of McCook and Gary (Kathy) of Kearney; his grandchildren: Shostal (Brandi) of Grand Island, Nicholas of McCook, Matthew (Sara) of Denver, Colorado, and Lisa (James) O’Brien of Newman Grove, Nebraska; his great-grandchildren include: Kade, Jace, and Duke Rogers, still at home in Denver, and Kenzie, James, Lukas, and Madeline O’Brien, still at home in Newman Grove; he is also survived by his sister Joanne Patrick of Manderson, Wyoming. &nbsp;Monte also has a host of nephews and nieces, cousins, and dear friends that will miss him also.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 10AM-5PM and Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

John Havens, of McCook, passed away early Sunday morning, September 24, 2023 at his home just outside of McCook.&nbsp; He was 75 years of age.

John A. Havens (1948-2023)

&nbsp; Janice was born and raised in Benkelman, Nebraska, by her parents, Raymond and Dorothy “Dot” Benge along with her sisters, Joyce Morris and Dorothy Benge.

Loving mother to her two sons, Trent and Kirt Jorgenson, loving grandmother to Kirt’s daughter Sofia Jorgenson.

Janice cherished her time growing up in Benkelman. When she wasn’t spending her free time visiting cousins, aunts and uncles on the family farm, she dedicated her time to studies and was head majorette at Benkelman High School.

Loving Aunt of Joyce and Tom Morris’ daughters Shauna Zornes and Sharla Allen. Great-Aunt of Shauna and Ron Lockwood’s son and daughters, Sam, Jessie, and Amy Lockwood. Sharla and Jim Allen’s son and daughter, Andrew and Natalie Allen. Great-Great- Aunt of Shauna and Ron Lockwood’s son and daughters are grandchildren; Boone Lockwood, Lylee and Ronni Willoughby; Owen and Della Schaffarzick. Cousins; Frank “Butch”, Dee and Bob Stamm, Ron Clark and Jerry Calkins.

A graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Janice ventured to California in 1965 and never looked back, setting in to raise her two sons Trent and Kirt in Sunnyvale California. There she began a long and distinguished career in the Santa Clara Department of Social Services. Janice worked as a social worker and advanced to supervisor, and bureau Chief Administrator, her passion was her work and traveling with her special friends and her family.

Family and friends are gathering Saturday, September 30th, 2023, 1:00 P.M. (MT) at the Benkelman Cemetery to honor her and bring her to her final resting place next to her parents.

Stella Rose McConnell was surrounded by her family when she passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at her home in McCook.&nbsp; She was six years old.

Stella Rose McConnell (2017-2023) 

Dale Ray Cook, 92, of North Platte, NE passed away and went home to the Lord on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Cozad Community Hospital.

Dale was born on February 21, 1931 in Timber Canyon, Scott City, Kansas, the son of Floyd and Murttis (Farr) Cook.

Dale grew up and attended school in the Scott City, Kansas area where he rode his horse “Trigger” back and forth to school every day. &nbsp;He used to say that he taught his horse multiplication tables on those rides. &nbsp;He graduated from Scott Community High School in 1949. &nbsp;He then went to work at Boeing Corporation in Wichita, KS, and then, wishing to see the world, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951. &nbsp;He traveled around the world twice during his time in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955. &nbsp;Following his service in the Navy, he returned to Scott City, later moving to Garden City, Kansas and working at Milhoun’s for 11 years and then with Burtis Motor Company for 30 years, retiring in 1996. &nbsp; Dale married Jeane (O’Rourke) at 1st Baptist Church in North Platte on January 4, 1997. &nbsp;When Dale asked Jeane to marry him, she had three questions: &nbsp;what are your hobbies (of course his answer was Harley’s), toilet paper roll over or under, and where do you squeeze the toothpaste tube from, the bottom or in the middle? His great love was his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which he and Jeane rode all over the country. &nbsp;They traveled from coast to coast in their 5th wheel with toy box trailer for easy transport of the Harley. &nbsp;Dale collected all things Harley-Davidson and had an extensive museum quality collection over the years. &nbsp;He enjoyed working in his woodshop on various projects and was meticulously clean and organized. &nbsp;He always organized his week into a different chore or duties to perform each day and maintained one of the nicest lawns in the neighborhood. &nbsp;He loved eagles, was a life-long Kansas City Chiefs fan, and was known by all as a classy and dignified gentleman. &nbsp;Dale loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Dale’s memory are his wife of 26 years, Jeane; children, Katherine (Scott) Sperry of Garden City, KS, Calvin (Pam) Cook of Salina, KS, Jacqueline (Daryl) Black of Winside, NE, Judy (Randy) Nichelson of North Platte, John (Krystal) Mecomber of Hastings, Jacqueline (Bryan) Yenni of North Platte, Jeffrey (Lee Ann) Mecomber of Colorado City, CO, and Janet (Mike) Gaudreault of Gering, NE; daughter-in-law, Jane Mecomber of North Platte; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne (Robert) Black of Goodyear, AZ; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph Mecomber; and brothers and sister-in-law, Royce (Lola) Cook and Derald Cook.

Burial will follow with military honors at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 28th at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Dale Ray Cook (1931-2023)

William Ervin Essman, 81, Thedford, Nebraska passed away Friday, September 15, 2023 in North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;He was born August 14,1942 in Fairbury, NE to Ervin and Celia Essman. &nbsp;He was the fourth of five children.

Bill grew up on a farm south of Swanton, Nebraska, where he helped his father with the farm work. During summers when he was old enough, he attended church camp.

While attending Swanton high school, he enjoyed participating in football, basketball and track. He was chosen by the Swanton Legion to attend Boys State in 1959. Bill graduated as Salutatorian from Swanton High School in 1960. He went on to play football at Fairbury Jr College in Fairbury, Nebraska. &nbsp;While there he met his future wife, Marilyn Mergen.

After Fairbury Jr. College, he went to Peru State College, then transferred to Wayne State College. &nbsp;Bill graduated from Wayne State College with a B.A. in Industrial Arts in December of 1967. &nbsp;In January of 1968, he began his teaching career. &nbsp;His first high school teaching job was in Edgewood, IA. While at Edgewood, he was an assistant football coach. His teaching career took the family to Bellevue, IA in 1970, to Stillman Valley, Illinois in 1973 and finally to Thedford, NE in 1979.

Bill and Marilyn were married on August 31,1963. Shortly after they married, they moved to Wayne Nebraska to attend Wayne State College so they could both complete their college education. Their older son, Jeff, was born while they were attending college at Wayne. Their younger son, Kevin, was born shortly after they moved to Edgewood, IA. Bill loved to watch both sons as they participated in football, basketball and track.

He taught Industrial Arts in each of the schools and continued helping coach football until they moved to Thedford. Bill retired from teaching in May 2003. At that time, he also retired from driving the school bus, which he had done at each school where he had taught.

Bill was a member of NEA, NSEA, the Masons, Scottish Rite, the Shrine and the Order of Eastern Star. He was a 50+ year member of both the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and Cribbage, attending sporting events of his sons and grandchildren and recycling metal and appliances at the Thedford disposal site.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn, their sons, Jeff Essman and Kevin Essman, his grandchildren Logan (Taylor) Simmerman, Kenny Essman, his granddaughter Myah Essman, his great grandson Barrett Simmerman, his sister Lucille (John) Martin, his sister-in-law Meredyth Cline, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his 3 older sisters Donna, Arla Berggren and Twila Pedersen, brothers-in-law Dean Berggren and LaVern Pedersen and 2 nephews.

An informal Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 2 P.M. at the Thomas County Fairground building. William "Bill" Ervin Essman (1942-2023)

Virgil Zellaha, 88, of Lewellen, Nebraska, passed away September 20, 2023, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska.

Virgil was born July 10, 1935, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Raymond and Beatrice (Hagadorn) Zellaha. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School before entering the U.S. Army, where he served 18 months in the Korean War.

On October 6, 1956, Virgil married Janice Marie Christofferson in Milford, Iowa. The two were blessed with three daughters: Cynthia, Marcy, and Sandra. The couple made their home at Spirit Lake, Iowa, before moving to Hartley, Iowa, and later Denver, Colorado, in the early 1960s. Virgil worked at Central Cycle and Marine in retail before going to work with his longtime friend, Kenny Hoyer, at Kenny's Marine. Virgil enjoyed success in the retail boat industry, in a career that spanned over 25 years.

Virgil and Jan moved to Lake McConaughy in Nebraska in the late 1980s and cherished the richness of retirement and a slower pace of life.

Virgil had a genuine love for the outdoors, which was something he shared with his daughter Sandra and grandsons Ryan, CJ, and Ryker. He loved to hunt, boat, fish, and dance. Virgil was also an outstanding skier, whether on snow or water. He also had an appreciation for cars and kept his with meticulous care.

Virgil was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Zellaha, and mother, Beatrice Zellaha; wife, Janice; along with a brother, Richard Zellaha.

Survivors include his children, three daughters, Cynthia (Brian) Cook of Castle Rock, CO, Marcy Starner (Vincent Caward) of Indianapolis, IN, and Sandra (Robin) Ball-George of Lochbuie, CO; six grandchildren, Ryan, Linsey, Ryker, C.J., Chadd, and Madison; five great-grandchildren, Colton, Aubree, and Jackson, Casen, Bradley; a brother, Dennis Zellaha of Milford, IA; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Richard Edson, 89, of Gothenburg, NE, surrounded by family, went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 21, 2023 in Gothenburg, NE.

He was born on the family farm April 8, 1934 north of Gothenburg, NE, son of Chris and Esther Edson.

He was a member over the years of both the Evangelical Free Church and United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Richard met the love of his life, Pauline Miller, on a blind date at a youth group gathering hot dog roast in the Miller family canyons. Richard attended country school District 89 until he was needed at home to work on the family farm, as was common during the Great Depression. After Pauline graduated, Richard and Pauline traveled to Julesburg, CO and were married on April 13, 1954. To this union, seven children were born.

Richard started his trucking career by first hauling hay and cottonseed cake in the local area, then cattle to the Omaha Stock Yards.&nbsp;Always looking for a new adventure, over his lifetime he hauled irrigation pipe, sod, swinging and processed meat, produce, liquid feed and fertilizer, processed livestock feed and all varieties of grain.Another adventure Richard participated in since he had the truck and moving expenses were high, was assisting with the moving of several different Pastors that came and went from the Evangelical Free Church in Gothenburg.&nbsp;

Richard "Dick" Edson (1934-2023)

Jean Ann Krajewski, 78, of Ogallala, passed away September 21, 2023, at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora, CO.

Jean was born June 30, 1945, at Central City, Nebraska, to Russell F. &amp; Mae M. (Reeb) Lindgren. The family moved to Sidney before relocating to Ogallala when Jean was a Junior in high school.

Jean graduated from Ogallala High School in 1963 and then married Bernard James "Jim" Vasa Jr. in 1964. Their union was blessed with a son, Jamie; however, Jim died in a tragic farming accident five months before the birth of Jamie.

After the death of her husband, Jean spent a brief season of life on the East Coast, where she welcomed a daughter into the world, Carolyn, a name that means "strong" and "brave."

Jean would later return to Ogallala, where she worked at Hoke's Cafe. And on February 10, 1968, Jean married Jerry Krajewski, and their union was blessed with three children: Justin, Jody, and Jason. She spent many years working at Sixth Street Food Store and Good Air in Ogallala, where she made many, many lifelong friends.

Jean continued to work as the family grew and was highly active at St. Luke's Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Society, held Bible studies, and was very engaged in Magnificat over the years. Jean had a keen sense of fashion and was ever classy in her dress. She also loved to travel and enjoyed trips to such places as Italy, Sweden, China, Canada, and Mexico, to name a few.

To speak of Jean meant also to witness to her great joy. She was a kindred spirit, reliably finding the laughter in situations. She could also be counted on for good sarcastic humor. Jean loved to have fun, and her attitude was light and had a way of illuminating the overcast moments.

Jean loved Jesus, and HE accompanied her through all the hills and valleys that life would bring, growing her faith along the way. She praised HIM in good times and hard times, and HE, of course, was ever faithful.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Bernard James "Jim" Vasa Jr.; granddaughter, Marcella Grace Cook; brother, Russell Forrest Lindgren; and brother-in-law, Otis Williamson.

Jean Krajewski (1945-2023)

Karla K. Franzen, 69, of North Platte, NE passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Great Plains Health Hospital surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Karla was born on August 21, 1954 in Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming, the daughter of Leslie Harnish, Jr. and Barbara A. (Turman).

Karla graduated from North Platte High School in 1972 and was married in that same year to Ronald R. Franzen. &nbsp;Together they had 3 daughters and raised their family in North Platte. &nbsp;Karla worked for 12 years as a bartender at the Platte Bar and for several years at Cabela's in the call center, retiring in 2013. &nbsp;She loved camping and fishing along with her family, and spending time at the Lake during the summers as often as possible. &nbsp;Karla loved spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Karla’s memory are her husband of 51 years, Ron; daughters, Lesley J. Okamoto (David) of Lincoln, Shelli M. Franzen of North Platte, and Kelly R. Franzen (Nathan Heessel) of Maxwell; grandchildren, Terrel R. Koch (Skyla Guilliatt) of Lincoln, Gracey M. Moore (Aaron) of North Platte, Avri A. Nolan-Franzen of North Platte, and Julianna R. Moore of Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Kadence R. Koch, Addie M. Koch, Sam J. Moore, and Lila S. Moore; brother, Leslie Kirk Harnish (Janet) of Cheyenne, WY; several nieces and nephews including special niece and her family, Susan L. She was preceded in death by her parents, and beloved sister, Karri A. McCaslin.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ned Cooper officiating. &nbsp;Memorial book signing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

On September 20, 2023, at the age of 43, Candy Jo (Jochum) Sailor passed away at her home in Maywood, Nebraska.&nbsp; 

Candy, the daughter of Paul and Dixie Jochum, was born in North Platte on June 22, 1980.&nbsp; She grew up in Sutherland where she graduated from Sutherland High School in 1998.

Candy married Rocky Sailor in 2004 and from this union two beautiful kids were born.&nbsp; She loved being a mother and was active in their lives, whether it was 4-H, FFA or various school activities.&nbsp;
