&nbsp; It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Carl Stafford, who peacefully departed this world on October 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Stafford, and sisters Margaret Ruth Fanning, and Vivian Kunkle. Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Gail Stafford, his son, Donald Stafford, his daughter, Lois Stafford-Burchell, and cherished grandchildren Carl, Christian, Conner, Garrett, and Clara and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl Stafford was a loving father who devoted his life to the well-being of his family. His unwavering support and guidance were a source of strength to all who knew him. His love for his wife, Gail, was a shining example of a lifelong partnership filled with warmth and affection.

A veteran of the Korean War, from September 9th, 1953, to September 8th 1955 Carl courageously served his country and defended the values he held dear. After his military service, he returned home to his true calling as a hardworking farmer and rancher. Carl's dedication to the land and the livestock he cared for was unwavering. He toiled in the fields, nurturing the earth, and tending to his animals with a passion that reflected his love for nature.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and a deep connection to the land. Carl's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will endure in the love and memories he leaves behind.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Mountain Time on Saturday, October 21 with viewing one hour prior at Imperial Methodist Church with Reverend Brian Loy officiating.&nbsp;

Mike was very social, and loved having a good time with his friends and family. &nbsp;He had a great appreciation for the people he worked with, too.

Barbara (Barb) Jean Vanarsdall, 78, passed away, October 14, 2023 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;Barb was born on October 31, 1944 in North Platte, the daughter of Wilbert and Ingeborg (Carlson) Godfrey. &nbsp;

She graduated from Hershey High School with the class of 1963. &nbsp;After high school, she married John L. Vanarsdall on November 16, 1963 and lived north of Hershey. &nbsp;Together they built a beautiful life in the country. &nbsp;This union was blessed with four boys: Matthew (Mark), Robert (Scott), Daniel and James. &nbsp;Barb was known for her hard-work and dedication to raising her family. &nbsp;She maintained the family farm while John was away at work. &nbsp;Once the boys grew up, Barb worked outside the household in North Platte at Kmart for 10 years. Upon closing their doors, she later was employed by Hershey Public Schools as a custodian and in the cafeteria. &nbsp;Barb will always be remembered for her beautiful yard, lily pond and garden. &nbsp;She worked non-stop in her yard. &nbsp;If she didn’t have a shovel or a pair of trimmers in her hand, she would be planting flowers or pushing a lawn mower and she would have a smile on her face the entire time. &nbsp;If Barb was not working in her yard she was cooking in her kitchen. &nbsp;There was always room at her table for an unexpected guest. &nbsp;She could whip up a meal to feed an army at any moment. &nbsp;Her family and friends will always remember her for her famous cinnamon rolls and potato salad. &nbsp;In her spare time, she enjoyed time with her family and shopping with her sisters and nieces. &nbsp;Barb could “design-on-a-dime” and turn something old and broke into a masterpiece. &nbsp;She had a unique way of decorating and it always turned out beautiful. &nbsp;She had a heart of gold and never spoke ill of anyone. &nbsp;She always found the good in people.

Barbara "Barb" Jean Vanarsdall (1944-2023)

Virgil Walter Eggleston, (67), of Keystone, Nebraska, passed away on October 12, 2023, in Ogallala, Nebraska.

&nbsp;Virgil, fondly known as Rusty, was born to Russell and Peggy Eggleston on April 13, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois.&nbsp; Shortly after his birth, his family relocated to Federal Heights, Colorado, and later moved to Broomfield, Colorado, and then Lafayette, Colorado prior to settling in Montrose, Colorado.&nbsp; Virgil was a very talented athlete and set a state record in the one-mile run while on his high school track and field team.&nbsp; He also enjoyed playing basketball and football in high school.

Upon graduating from Montrose High School in 1974, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Signal Basic Operator and was stationed in Germany until he was honorably discharged in July 1977.&nbsp; After the Army, Virgil began his career as a food service delivery driver for Westman Commission Company.&nbsp; He later became a long-haul truck driver for Nations Way Transport before moving on to become a Fleet Safety Supervisor with Air Liquide America and Driver Trainer with Trans Service in Denver, Colorado before joining FedEx in Nebraska.&nbsp; He was proud to receive an award for over 4 million miles driven accident-free over the length of his career.

Virgil met his future wife, Susan Darlene Ward in July 1977.&nbsp; The two were wed on December 4, 1978, in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; Of this union three children were born: Erika in February 1982, Angela in September 1985, and Ryan in February 1988.&nbsp; Virgil and Susan raised their family in Thornton, Colorado.&nbsp; Over the years their family had a tradition of spending their summers at Lake McConaughy in Nebraska, where they created wonderful memories with friends.&nbsp; Once their children were grown, Virgil and Susan decided to relocate to Keystone, Nebraska.&nbsp; They finally got their “little piece of paradise” in Keystone.

In his free time, Virgil enjoyed fishing at Lake McConaughy with his wife, children, and grandchildren, elk hunting with his good friends, spending time with his family, poker nights with the guys, and big family barbeques.&nbsp; He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was adored by all who knew him.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Susan D. Eggleston; his children: Erika (Brian McDaniel) Eggleston, Angela (Scott) Young, Ryan (Ruby) Eggleston; his grandchildren: Kaitlyn Young, and Ryan Eggleston Jr.; his sister: Carolyn (Fred) Mueller; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Virgil was preceded in death by his brother, Mother, and Father.

Mike was born on April 7, 1952 in Valentine, Nebraska to Michael and Elaine (Boardman) Higgins in Valentine, NE. He graduated from Thedford High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged.

He married Mary Carlini and to this union two children were born. His biggest joy in his life were his two children: Nikita White and Frankie Higgins; they were his everything. He was incredible ornery and good, not always appropriate, and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed being able to help anyone in any way. And greeted each day with a kind smile.

He is survived by his children, Nikita White, Corpus Christi, TX and Frankie Higgins, Hastings, NE: sister, Tammi Hall, North Platte, NE and brother, Terry Higgins, Thedford, NE; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Elaine Boardman.

Michael "Mike" H Higgins, Jr. (1952-2023)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale Callison Allen was born February 25, 1935 to Jack Albert and Dorothy Leona (Lyle) Allen on the family farm south of Cambridge, Nebraska.&nbsp; He attended grade school at three country schools around Cambridge.&nbsp; Gale attended high school in Cambridge, Edison, and Beaver City, where he graduated in 1952.&nbsp; He joined the United States Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged in January of 1959.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale was united in marriage to Janice Ruth McQuiety on August 16, 1959.&nbsp; To this union a daughter, Janice Elaine and a son, Anthony Gale were born.&nbsp; Gale worked at Robertson’s Chevrolet in Oxford for thirteen years until it closed.&nbsp; He was a mechanic for Robertson’s stockcar number 45.&nbsp; He worked at Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege for thirteen years and was a substitute rural mail carrier while at B-D.&nbsp; Gale became a full-time rural mail carrier in 1985 and retired on February 25, 2000.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale was a member of the Methodist Church in Beaver City and transferred to the Oxford United Methodist Church.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion and had been a Jaycee.&nbsp; Gale served on the volunteer fire department and was an EMT.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale liked to travel; he and Janice visited all fifty states and enjoyed cruising on ships with Tony and Jan and Dale.&nbsp; After retirement, he enjoyed golfing with the 1:00 PM group on weekdays.&nbsp; Late on Sunday afternoons, he would take Janice for a ride in the country to look for wildlife.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale passed away at the Mount Carmel Home in Kearney, Nebraska on Friday, October 13, 2023.&nbsp; He was 88 years of age.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Jimmy Carroll, Gerald Patrick, Robert Jack and wife, Georgia Mae, and Donald Albert and wife, Shirley Ann.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Janice; children, Janice “Jan” Cramer and husband, Dale Glen Cramer of Cambridge and Anthony “Tony” Allen of Oxford; grandsons, Jeremiah Quincy Wehland and Rachel Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona, Ryan Anthony Cramer of Cambridge, and Drew Richard Cramer and wife, Kimberly LiAnne of Cambridge; as well as his great-grandchildren, Irmina Zophia Cramer, Mason Allen, Elisabeth Jean, and Emmett Ward Cramer all of Cambridge.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon, October 17, 2023 from 3-6PM at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, Nebraska.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Funeral services are scheduled for 11AM, Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023 at the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Albert Longe officiating.&nbsp; Graveside services will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge, Nebraska at 2:30 PM on Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2023 with full military honors.

 </figure>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale Callison Allen was born February 25, 1935 to Jack Albert and Dorothy Leona (Lyle) Allen on the family farm south of Cambridge, Nebraska.&nbsp; He attended grade school at three country schools around Cambridge.&nbsp; Gale attended high school in Cambridge, Edison, and Beaver City, where he graduated in 1952.&nbsp; He joined the United States Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged in January of 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale was united in marriage to Janice Ruth McQuiety on August 16, 1959.&nbsp; To this union a daughter, Janice Elaine and a son, Anthony Gale were born.&nbsp; Gale worked at Robertson’s Chevrolet in Oxford for thirteen years until it closed.&nbsp; He was a mechanic for Robertson’s stockcar number 45.&nbsp; He worked at Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege for thirteen years and was a substitute rural mail carrier while at B-D.&nbsp; Gale became a full-time rural mail carrier in 1985 and retired on February 25, 2000.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale was a member of the Methodist Church in Beaver City and transferred to the Oxford United Methodist Church.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion and had been a Jaycee.&nbsp; Gale served on the volunteer fire department and was an EMT.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale liked to travel; he and Janice visited all fifty states and enjoyed cruising on ships with Tony and Jan and Dale.&nbsp; After retirement, he enjoyed golfing with the 1:00 PM group on weekdays.&nbsp; Late on Sunday afternoons, he would take Janice for a ride in the country to look for wildlife.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gale passed away at the Mount Carmel Home in Kearney, Nebraska on Friday, October 13, 2023.&nbsp; He was 88 years of age.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Jimmy Carroll, Gerald Patrick, Robert Jack and wife, Georgia Mae, and Donald Albert and wife, Shirley Ann.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Janice; children, Janice “Jan” Cramer and husband, Dale Glen Cramer of Cambridge and Anthony “Tony” Allen of Oxford; grandsons, Jeremiah Quincy Wehland and Rachel Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona, Ryan Anthony Cramer of Cambridge, and Drew Richard Cramer and wife, Kimberly LiAnne of Cambridge; as well as his great-grandchildren, Irmina Zophia Cramer, Mason Allen, Elisabeth Jean, and Emmett Ward Cramer all of Cambridge.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon, October 17, 2023 from 3-6PM at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Funeral services are scheduled for 11AM, Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023 at the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Albert Longe officiating.&nbsp; Graveside services will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge, Nebraska at 2:30 PM on Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2023 with full military honors.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Oxford First Aid in Gale's memory.&nbsp; Online condolences may be left at lockenour.com.&nbsp; Arrangements have been entrusted to Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.

Gale C. Allen (1935-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; I, William Rick Johnson, passed away on October 13, 2023, while feeling the warm embrace of all those who loved me.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; I was born to Bill and Jackie Johnson on July 16, 1954. My sister Debbie completed our family four years later. I led an idyllic childhood in McCook and somehow survived a reckless youth.

&nbsp; &nbsp; On August 28, 1986 Karmon Hohl (Felker) and I were married. This union completed my family with a wonderful wife and three children, a daughter and two sons: Dayle Johnson, Aaron Felker and Clint Johnson. We raised our new family on an acreage west of McCook. Love, kids, cats, dogs, horses, and flowers - it really doesn’t get better than that.

&nbsp; &nbsp; I was blessed with five grandchildren. Dayle married Brandon Laird and gave me Brohdy and Ghrey Laird. Aaron married Nen Felker (Sheahan) and gave me Jeremy, Isaiah and Gabriel Goertz. &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; After college I ran my own farm and livestock business for just over 20 years. I then managed farms and sold Real Estate for Farmers National Co. for another two decades until I retired.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; I was preceded in death by my parents, grandparents, many aunts and uncles and several first cousins.

&nbsp; &nbsp; The depth of my life was the unbearable loss of my daughter Dayle on Christmas Eve 2022.

&nbsp; &nbsp; At my mother’s clear direction, I have done the best I could to live according to the teachings of Jesus. So, I told Karmon, if such a place as Heaven exists, I’ll be there waiting for her.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and memorial services will be held at 2:30PM on Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2023 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Tyler Thiessen officiating. &nbsp;

William "Rick" Johnson (1954-2023)

Walter William “Walt” Pepper, aged 64, of North Platte, passed away on October 13, 2023, at his home in North Platte. &nbsp;On May 13, 1959, he was born to William Edward Pepper and Darlene Marie Osborn, the youngest of five and only boy, in San Antonio, TX.

As a child, Walt moved around frequently due to his father’s position in the military. &nbsp;He attended Tri Center High School near Neola, IA. &nbsp;After high school, Walt moved to Florida where he worked on the shrimp boats, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. &nbsp;He then attended a trade school to learn HVAC. &nbsp;He used this knowledge to work for Knobels in North Platte, where he moved to in 2010. &nbsp;Walt was always quiet and reserved, having a few very close friends that he would do anything for. &nbsp;He loved the ocean, hunting, and fishing. &nbsp;Those that knew him well, knew his fun personality, great sense of humor, and witty comebacks.

Survivors of Walt include his siblings, Linda Pace of Altamonte Springs, FL, Su Harper of North Platte, Kathy (Dan) Shea of North Platte, and Alyce Troll of Sioux Center, IA; 6 nieces and nephews; 9 great nieces and nephews; other family.

Those preceding him in death are his parents, William and Darlene.

Walter "Walt" William Pepper (1959-2023)

On August 2, 2002, in Hastings, NE, Nick and Chantel Tonkinson were blessed with the first addition to their family of boys, Parker James Tonkinson. &nbsp;He came into the world with so many gifts and talents and his parents knew he would do great things. &nbsp;

One of these gifts was the art of storytelling. &nbsp;He loved to crawl up on people’s laps and ask for stories about dragons. &nbsp;Parker would then add his own twists and turns to it. &nbsp;Parker never wanted the dragon stories to end so he continued to ask, “what else?”. &nbsp;He loved movies and as a child, his favorite parts were the “coming soons”. &nbsp; He came up with his own names for things like a statue of a giraffe at his nana’s house he called “Buddy Buck” or his babies and blankets that he carried around everywhere.

Parker was also blessed with his dad’s humor and wittiness; he loved to make people laugh. &nbsp;His silly side carried him through some of his stress and often helped those around him. &nbsp;He could often be found making his younger brothers the butt of his jokes.

He was compassionate and loving. &nbsp;If you had the honor to be in Parker’s inner circle of friends and family, he loved so deeply. &nbsp;He watched out for those he loved and put their needs ahead of his own. &nbsp;Parker felt when people were hurting and wanted to make sure they were okay.

Parker loved the outdoors; he loved to hunt and fish. &nbsp;The annual deer camp in November was something he looked forward to and spent weeks planning with his dad and brothers. &nbsp;He had several trophy deer in his apartment to show off to anyone who came around.

Perhaps his greatest blessing was his talent for music. &nbsp;Parker was drawn to music at an early age. &nbsp;He could often be found in his car seat dancing to “I like the way you move” by Outkast. &nbsp;His love truly developed when he learned to play instruments; first, the trumpet, then the guitar, and self-taught piano. &nbsp;He was most recently learning to compose and put out original instrumentals. &nbsp;Parker earned several awards including superior ratings at All State Music and the Nebraska Young Artist Award given to only forty students in Nebraska.

After graduating from North Platte High School in 2020, this talent led Parker to pursue his dream by auditioning for the Cornhusker marching band of which he was a member for one year. &nbsp;His love of music also led him to some of his most treasured friends.

Parker’s loss will leave a void in so many people’s lives but most of all his three younger brothers: his companion for life, Caleb, 19; his target for all of his “big brother antics”, Blake, 16; and his brother who idolized him in every way, Gabriel, 13; his parents, Nick and Chantel, who will never fill the hole he leaves; his nana and papa, Kay and James Tonkinson, who supported his every adventure and endeavor; his grandma, Carmen Luellman, who spent many evenings telling dragon stories. &nbsp;He leaves behind a number of extended family members, including aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as numerous friends, teachers, and others who impacted his life.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ronald Tierney and Steve Luellman; and his great grandfather, James Ruberson.

Services will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 1 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Jesse Dunn as officiant. &nbsp;Burial will follow in North Platte Cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 12 PM to 7 PM with family present from 5 PM to 7 PM at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home. &nbsp;Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Parker James Tonkinson (2002-2023)

Illa Mae (Cochran) Warner was born in McCook on May 3, 1938, and went home to be with her Lord on Oct. 13, 2023.

She was the youngest child born to Harry and Lillian Mac (Myers) Cochran. Illa grew up in the Curtis area, attending country grade schools and the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis. She married James Shaffer in 1955. To this union, three children were born: Jim, Joni and Jeffrey.

On April 29, 1983, Illa and Leland “Bud” Warner were married. They made their first home in Gering where they were members of Calvary Evangelical Free Church. In 1985, they moved to Imperial to be nearer to Mom Cochran. They moved to North Platte in 1991. Illa worked at Brown's Shoe Fit for 10 years and at Rebecca's Rose Garden for six years.

Illa asked Jesus into her heart as her Savior on July 18, 1982. She was a member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church where she had served on several committees and attended Bible studies. She also enjoyed her flowers, reading and writing poetry. Bud and Illa belonged to a Bible study group, Schroeder's Warriors, that became a small family to them.

One of Illa's joys was entertaining friends with her outstanding cooking. She had a reputation in church for her outstanding cooking.

Preceding Illa in death were her parents; grandson, Matthew Shaffer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lavon (Dean) Woody and Ramona (Ray) Wlaschin: her sister, Margery Cochran; brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Maxine) Cochran; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Evelyn Berry; and in-laws, Clay and Dessa Warner.

Left to mourn Illa's passing are her husband, Bud: daughter, Joni (Mike) Sigwing of Gering; sons, Jim (Roz) Shaffer of Paxton and Jeff (Jenny) Shaffer of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Amy Mae (Nick) Pullens, Ashley (Tony) Reed, Amber (Andre) Dowdell, Jamey Shaffer, Nick Shaffer, Jennifer Shaffer, Joshua (Chris) Shaffer, Alicia (Luke) Peterson and Alex Shaffer; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Drew, Ellie, Emma, Avaya Mae, Quincy, Kiara, Knox and DiCaprio; and great-great-grandchild, Andi McNeff; her sister, Ruby (Keith) Sailors; many nieces, nephews and friends; step-children, Scott (Teri) Warner of Hawaii, Dixie (David) Scharf of Lincoln, Jeff (Michelle) Warner of Independence, Missouri, and Valerie Rexus of Gering; step-grandchildren, Ryan (Kenette) Scharf, Brooks Scharf, Baillie (Jeff) Reisberg, Lindsey (Brian) Ellis, Cole (Stephanie) Coplen and Katy Warner; step-great-grandchildren, Will, Kate, Jackson, Jacob, Hunter, Aubrey, Libby, Harper, Reagan, Bently, Teagan and Dillon.

Illa Mae (Cochran) Warner (1938-2023)

&nbsp; Gary D. Marrs of Sutherland passed away at age 85 on October 15, 2023,in Sutherland.

Gary was born July 10, 1938, to James and Mable (Cotton) Marrs in Wallace.&nbsp; When he was 10, the family moved to Sutherland and that is where he attended Sutherland Public School, graduating in 1956.

After high school, Gary went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and worked until 1961 when he took a job with Natural Gas Distributing Company, relocating to Ogallala in 1972.&nbsp; In 1984, Gary moved back to Sutherland and retired from the Gas Company.&nbsp; In 1997, he went to work for Hi-Line Coop fertilizer plant until 2003.&nbsp; In 2007, Gary decided to help out a local farmer with harvest until finally retiring in 2021 as his health started to deteriorate.

On April 3, 1959, Gary married Patsy A. Morris in Sutherland and the couple had three daughters.

Gary was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, served as a volunteer for the Ogallala and Sutherland Fire Departments, and was on the search and rescue SCUBA team for many years.

Gary enjoyed camping, fishing and working in his garden.&nbsp; In the last few years he loved seeing the Union Pacific Big Boy and the 844 steam engines in North Platte.&nbsp; His great-grandsons, Remington and Colton, shared the love of trains with him. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen; brother, Dennis; and grandson, Tyler Andersen.

Gary is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patsy; their daughters, Cindy Condreay, Deborah (Colin) Andersen and Janette (James) Dicke; five grandchildren, Heather Daves, Cletus and Cody Stickley, Tiara Obertance and Austin Dicke; nine great-grandchildren, Courtney, Keaton, Bryce and Tristen Stickley, Allie Maynor, Colton Obertance, Deziray Scammell, Remington and Kairi Dicke; as well as other family.

Cremation was chosen and graveside service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, November 4, in Riverview Cemetery at Sutherland. Judith Brown was born January 13, 1946, to Henry Cox and Wilamene Ericksen Cox of Mullen, Nebraska. She was the eldest of the siblings Kay Tarr, AB Cox, &amp; Erika Christene Cox, and Lou Fornander. She spent her formative years at Calf Creek Ranch in Cherry County.

She was married twice, to Russell Jones of Laramie, Wyoming and later to Don Brown of New Mexico. She had four children: CJ Alexander (son Ezra), Peter Bentley, (wife Staci Porter, children Jack Bentley and Hunter Bentley) and Erik Bentley (daughter Briona), and Elizabeth Russell.

A larger portion of her life was spent in the Tower District of Fresno, California where she worked as a paralegal and noted astrologist.

She retired to her beloved Sandhills where she lived in Seneca until her passing October 12, 2023.

Susan Wood age 52 passed away October 12, 2023, at her home in Mason City, NE.

Susan Rae Crowe Wood was born January 16, 1971, in San Angelo, Texas to Donald Ray and Mary Sue (Weathersby) Crowe. Susan grew up in Texas and Kentucky. Susan was united in marriage to Ervin E. Murphy in September of 1986, to this union two sons Micheal and Charles Murphy were born. The couple later divorced. Married Emmit “Butch” Steel in November of 1993. Later divorcing. In December 1998, Susan married Gene Wood. To this union a daughter Megan Wood was born. The couple later on divorced.

Susan was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for 16 ½ years working at numerous Nursing Homes until the end of 1998, when she became a full-time housewife and mother until 2000. Susan and husband Gene started Lashwood Heating and Air where she was the bookkeeper and secretary. She enjoyed her family and friends. Susan was baptized April 28, 2019. Susan later worked at the Prairie Pioneer Center, which she enjoyed until her illness. Susan’s grandchildren were her blessings.

Susan was preceded in death by grandparents Charlie &amp; Rossie Crowe, Jimmie L. Hill and Charlie Weathersby, grandson Grayson Murphy, and brothers Christopher Donald Crowe and Sonny Dale Crowe.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Dolores Kay was born on May 29, 1938 to Cliff and Cleo (Hoskins) Matson in Culbertson, Nebraska. &nbsp;She grew up in Culbertson helping at the family café and attending and graduating high school from Culbertson schools.

&nbsp; &nbsp; On November 16, 1958, Dolores was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Christner. &nbsp;The couple moved to the family farm in Hayes County where Dolores helped with the everyday farm life and raised their four children: Mike, Jamie, Kelly, and Terri.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Dolores always kept two large gardens on the farm and spent countless hours canning and putting up vegetables. &nbsp;She also enjoyed cake decorating and golf. &nbsp;Dolores was at her happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Cliff and Cleo; grandson, Austin Wright; brothers, LeRoy and Wayne Matson; brother-in-law, Vernon Christner; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Vyonna Fowler.

Dolores Christner (1938-2023)

On October 3, 2023 David Brooks went home to be with the Lord. He passed peacefully in his sleep at Ativo Memory Care in Yuma, AZ. He has happily been reunited with his wife Annie, son Shane, and daughter Jo Shannon. David was born January 16, 1945 in Cozad, Nebraska to Alvin “Pete” and Violet (Etherton) Brooks. He married the love of his life Annie (Barnette) Brooks on September 16, 1966. They were happily married for 55 years.

David served 23 years in the U.S. Navy and served with the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam as a hospital Corpsman in 1968-1969. After retiring in 1988, David worked for the Yuma County as Director of the Yuma County Public Health Department for 16 years.

David was a man of few words unless you mentioned Dodger Baseball or his favorite Nebraska Cornhuskers. Golf was his favorite pastime on and off the links. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter Becky Vilums, son-in-law Mark, grandson Luke, and granddaughter Lydia; his brother Douglas (Kyla) Brooks of Kearney and sister Connie (Rod) Donner of Cozad/Yuma, Az and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services will be held Monday, October 16, 2023 at noon at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bellarmee Milosi officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.&nbsp;

David Dean Brooks (1945-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; James M. "Jim" Ross, age 85, passed away on October 6, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim was born in Oberlin, KS. His parents were Porter, Jr. and Mabel M. (Wudtke) Ross. &nbsp; Jim was raised in rural McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1956. He then joined the Air Force in 1957. He spent one year in Alaska on the Aleutian Islands as a radar operator. &nbsp;He was honorably discharged in 1960. &nbsp;He then married Bonnie Burton on August 4, 1961. &nbsp;They lived on his parent’s farm for 11 years, raising hogs. &nbsp;They purchased their farm from the Goltl family and raised hogs for 50 years at which time they retired due to Jim’s declining health.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim was employed at the sale barn and B&amp;B Service Station. &nbsp;He did landscaping and raised hogs. &nbsp;He was a member of National Rifle Association and Pheasants Forever. &nbsp;Jim enjoyed leather tooling, woodworking, hunting and fishing. &nbsp;He loved spending time with family and friends, motorcycling, riding snowmobiles, and of course camping with his RV.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Porter Ross, Jr.; grandparents, Gus and Teresa Wudtke; his in-laws, Mabel M. (McBrien) Burton and Orville E. Burton.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie; son, Mike (Bonnie) of Conifer, CO; and his two daughters, Tonia of Rockport, TX and Billie Jo (Todd) Hueftle of McCook; extended family: Kevin Hayes, Matt (Lauren) Banda, Ben Propp, and Heath Hamilton; five grandchildren: Mikayla, Lisa, Tasha, Silver and Zach; 11 grandchildren: Selah, Arrowlinn, Haven, Briella, Cali, Blake, Sophia, Dylan, Dawn, Cameron and Molly; as well as one great-great-granddaughter, Alani Jade.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim chose cremation. There will not be a visitation. &nbsp;Memorial services are scheduled for 2PM on Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2023 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Joe Samson, Jr. officiating. &nbsp;Military Honors will be provided by the Offutt AFB Honor Guard. &nbsp;A private family inurnment will take place in the Evangelical Cemetery outside Herndon, Kansas at a later date.

 </figure>&nbsp; &nbsp; James M. "Jim" Ross, age 85, passed away on October 6, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim was born in Oberlin, KS. His parents were Porter, Jr. and Mabel M. (Wudtke) Ross. &nbsp; Jim was raised in rural McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1956. He then joined the Air Force in 1957. He spent one year in Alaska on the Aleutian Islands as a radar operator. &nbsp;He was honorably discharged in 1960. &nbsp;He then married Bonnie Burton on August 4, 1961. &nbsp;They lived on his parent’s farm for 11 years, raising hogs. &nbsp;They purchased their farm from the Goltl family and raised hogs for 50 years at which time they retired due to Jim’s declining health.&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim was employed at the sale barn and B&amp;B Service Station. &nbsp;He did landscaping and raised hogs. &nbsp;He was a member of National Rifle Association and Pheasants Forever. &nbsp;Jim enjoyed leather tooling, woodworking, hunting and fishing. &nbsp;He loved spending time with family and friends, motorcycling, riding snowmobiles, and of course camping with his RV.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Porter Ross, Jr.; grandparents, Gus and Teresa Wudtke; his in-laws, Mabel M. (McBrien) Burton and Orville E. Burton.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie; son, Mike (Bonnie) of Conifer, CO; and his two daughters, Tonia of Rockport, TX and Billie Jo (Todd) Hueftle of McCook; extended family: Kevin Hayes, Matt (Lauren) Banda, Ben Propp, and Heath Hamilton; five grandchildren: Mikayla, Lisa, Tasha, Silver and Zach; 11 grandchildren: Selah, Arrowlinn, Haven, Briella, Cali, Blake, Sophia, Dylan, Dawn, Cameron and Molly; as well as one great-great-granddaughter, Alani Jade.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Jim chose cremation. There will not be a visitation. &nbsp;Memorial services are scheduled for 2PM on Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2023 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Joe Samson, Jr. officiating. &nbsp;Military Honors will be provided by the Offutt AFB Honor Guard. &nbsp;A private family inurnment will take place in the Evangelical Cemetery outside Herndon, Kansas at a later date.&nbsp; &nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the McCook Humane Society in Jim's name. &nbsp; Vicky Fine, 78, of Enders, passed away October 7, 2023 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Vicky Eden Dunbar was born on August 16, 1945 to LD and Inez Dunbar in Loup City, Nebraska. She attended Loup County High School, graduating in 1964. Vicky graduated from the Kearney State College in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. On April 5, 1969, Vicky married Loran Fine. They were blessed with three children: Brent, Jeff, and Sheri. The family eventually settled near Enders, with Vicky teaching at Chase County Schools. In 2009, Vicky retired after more than 33 years of teaching. She enjoyed sewing and genealogy and she preserved extensive family history and stories. Vicky was preceded in death by her parents, LD and Inez Dunbar; and sisters Carol Webster and Evelyn Peterson. Survivors include her husband, Loran Fine of Enders; children, Brent (Bethaney) Fine of Ogallala, Jeff Fine of Enders, Sheri (Iverson) Bokich of Twin Falls, ID; siblings Betty (Larry) Fogelman of Alda, Curt (Jeanne) Dunbar of Taylor; grandchildren, Alec Barbee of Ogallala, Ciera (Derek) Andre of North Platte, Dakota Fine of Gering, Kabriel Fine of Ogallala, Austin Bokich and Gavin Bokich of Twin Falls, ID; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

On October 6, 2023, Carlos Carreras died as the result of a auto accident in Arthur County, NE. &nbsp;He was 34 years old.

Carlos, the son of Julie and Michael Carreras, was born in Garden City, KS, on April 9, 1989. &nbsp;As an infant the family returned to North Platte where Carlos grew up. &nbsp;He was active in Boy Scouts and was the top popcorn seller for several years. &nbsp;

Carlos graduated from North Platte High School, then worked various jobs before going to work for Contractor Services, a job he'd been doing for the past 8 years.

Carlos was independent and appreciated his Native American heritage. &nbsp;He was liked by everyone and like his father, he liked to play pool. &nbsp;Carlos especially loved his daughters, Lily and Luna, and would do anything for them. &nbsp;He has been taken from us all too soon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Julie and Dana Lyon of Kentucky; daughters, Lily and Luna, grandmother, Mary Carreras, and his friend, Daniel Small, all of North Platte; as well as other family and friends.

Harold "Dean" Jensen, 88, of Cozad, NE, died October 10, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. &nbsp;

Harold "Dean" Jensen (1935-2023)

Kent Craig Peterson, 90, of Gothenburg went on to his Heavenly Home on October 8, 2023. Kent was born on the family farm, 12 miles north of Brady, NE, in Wild Horse Valley, to Ernest and Susie (Craig) Peterson.&nbsp;

He attended Spannuth Country School, through the 8th grade and then went on to Brady High School, where he &nbsp;graduated in 1952, with a class of 7 students. &nbsp;The summer before high school, Kent accepted the Lord as his Savior. &nbsp;Even though he was reluctant, he felt it was God's plan that he attend high school. While in high school, he started a hay baling business after purchasing an Allis-Chalmers baler. &nbsp;

Kent married Marian Rodine on September 18, 1954, at the Evangelical Free Church in Gothenburg. They moved to Wild Horse Valley and lived in the Johnson House, 3/4 mile east of the Peterson Homestead, where Tamera was born in 1957. &nbsp;Later, they were blessed with three additional children: Joni, Craig and Brent. In 1958, they moved to the family farm, when Ernest and Susie moved to Brady.

Kent was a father, farmer, rancher, entrepreneur, negotiator and of course a story teller. He was a man of many firsts in the Wild Horse Valley and was not afraid to think outside of the box. In the early 1970’s, when I-80 was opened, he built a fast food restaurant called “Kent’s Drive Inn" known for his soft serve twist ice cream cones. Next door he built the first self-service gas station in the area where gas prices started at 33.9 cents a gallon. He also built a full service repair shop for customers along the Brady interchange. &nbsp;During the summer, after farming all day, he would run the drive inn with the help of Tamera and Craig flipping burgers.

Around 1975, he wished to expand his farmland for crops. He put in two center pivots south of the homestead, which was quite hilly. He was the talk of the Wild Horse Valley as his neighbors watched him moving dirt and removing trees with his Caterpillar bulldozer.

He organized a Men's Brotherhood Group for local men in the area. They would meet once a month at the Svea Dal Church, where he was also a member on the Church Board, Sunday School Superintendent, a Deacon and on the Cemetery Board.

He enjoyed old cars and had quite the collection over the years. &nbsp;One of his favorite cars was his 1948 Chrysler Convertible, which was featured in the movie, “Dear Eleanor”, that was filmed in Colorado in 2013. &nbsp;He and Marian even made a cameo appearance in the movie.

In 1998, Kent and Marian moved to the family cabin at Jeffrey Lake. While living there, Kent continued to add on and renovate the cabin, in his spare time. They made many wonderful memories, with family and friends, during the time they lived there

Kent had a stroke in 2007, which left him paralyzed on his left side. It didn’t seem to slow him down much. They were able to spend a couple winters in Surprise, AZ, where they enjoyed the warm weather and being close to their Arizona family. Kent enjoyed playing shuffleboard and Marian enjoyed water aerobics.&nbsp;

In 2016, they moved to a new duplex in Gothenburg. This worked out well for them in their golden years. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. &nbsp;They faithfully kept their covenant with each other and the Lord Jesus Christ, as the center of their marriage. As a couple, Kent and Marian enjoyed collecting antiques and traveling. Some of their fondest trips were taking a cruise, going to Hawaii twice, as well as visiting their children and grandchildren in Delaware, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and Arizona.

Kent is survived by his daughter Tamera (Rocky) Herrick of St Johns, AZ, two sons, Craig (Kathy) Peterson of Berthoud, CO and Brent Peterson (friend Joyce) of Brady; &nbsp;Eight grandchildren, Tanner, Colby and Drew Herrick of AZ, Kacee (Moore) Herrick, MI, Payton and Collin Peterson of CO, Shanell Peterson of TX, &nbsp;Madalyn Peterson of AZ and 12 great grandchildren, and many more nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian, his daughter Joni Kay, his parents Ernest and Susie Peterson, his sisters Lavonne Peterson (Reichert) and Betheen Peterson (Melcher) and his in-laws Theodore and Nora Rodine.&nbsp;

The family is requesting all memorials for Kent to be sent to Svea Dal Church, Brady, NE. &nbsp;

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Brady Community Center on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Kent Peterson (1933-2023)

Carol&nbsp;Carreras, the daughter of Margaret and Carl Carreras, was born July 13, 1960, at Sioux City, Iowa. &nbsp; She died October 6, 2023, at Great Plains Health in North Platte at the age of 63.

Carol grew up in Hershey and North Platte and attended North Platte High School. &nbsp;She later moved to California for a while then returned to North Platte. &nbsp;Over the years Carol worked various jobs until her health declined.

She enjoyed watching Nebraska football and the Kansas City Chiefs. &nbsp;Carol especially cared about her family and she loved cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Carl, and her brother, Michael Carreras.

Survivors include her daughter, MaryAnn Dixon; stepmother, Mary Carreras; her brother, John (Sharen) Carreras of Berthoud, CO; as well as four grandchildren and other family.

Coby G. Davenport, 64, of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.

He was born on June 19, 1959, in Kearney, Nebraska. He is the son of Baldy and Larriet (Gehle) Davenport. On August 30, 1980, Coby and Cindy Steinback were married and blessed with two children: Paige and Cooper. Coby followed the "family tradition" of trucking for most of his life. He owned and operated Foote Oil in Overton for several years and ultimately navigated back to trucking.
