&nbsp;Ruth Hermance,&nbsp; 96, formerly of Ogallala passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at her home in Portland, Oregon. Ruth Edna Olson was born September 25, 1927, on the family farm in Lancaster County Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was the youngest of the seven children of Oscar and Edna (Drimmie) Olson.&nbsp; She would follow her father in the fields, help with chores, and learned to fish and ride horses from him.&nbsp; From her mother, she learned to garden, bake, and enjoy reading, all of which became life-long passions. Ruth graduated from Raymond, Nebraska High School and attended secretarial school in Lincoln where she met her best friends forever, Shirley, Bessie, and Vi with whom she shared many adventures including trips to Colorado to ski and to New York to see Broadway plays and other productions. In 1952, Ruth married Cliff Hermance and together they raised five children - all graduates of Ogallala High School where Cliff taught and coached and where Ruth was an administrative assistant and para educator.&nbsp; &nbsp;She joined the staff of the Keith County News writing the award-winning “Reflections by Ruth” column, took up photography and contributed pictures to the paper, and became a life member of the Nebraska Press Women and National Federation of Press Women organizations.&nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth loved her newspaper work and advocated for women’s rights in the workforce at a time when the Women’s Rights movement was just beginning. Her children remember her as a caring mother who was always there for them, whether making their clothes when they were young, getting them library cards, attending all of their sports, plays, band, and musical events, making dinners to fit their practice schedules, going to all parent-teacher conferences, and watching them graduate.&nbsp; Every year she always sent birthday cards to each of them, their spouses, their children, and grandchildren and never failed to note an anniversary or special accomplishment with a note, gift, or kind word.&nbsp; They also remember her as a creative person, always sewing, crocheting, knitting, baking, gardening, painting, redecorating, and reciting poetry and book quotes. Ruth enjoyed growing flowers, taking photographs, reading and participating in her book clubs, attending the First United Methodist Church, and being active in Church Circles.&nbsp; She enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren, taking trips across the country and to Europe, and reuniting with family at mini-reunions and events whether at Lake McConaughy, Lincoln, or Colorado, and even in Sweden, the birthplace of her father.

Ruth is survived by her children, Jeff (Katie) Hermance of Atlanta GA; Patti (Robert) Garsha of Portland OR; Judy (Neal) Burnham of Sycamore IL; Suzi of Ogallala, and Douglas (Myrna) of Ensenada, Mexico; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews who will forever remember her with love and respect. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Cliff, her parents, her sisters and brothers, and her granddaughter, Alisa Burnham.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. (MT) in the United Methodist Church in Ogallala with Rev. Curt Magelky officiating. Inurnment will take place Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. (CT) in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska where she will join Cliff, a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Flowers in her memory are welcome.&nbsp; Memorials may be directed to the Keith County Foundation Fund and Ogallala Library general fund.

Ruth E Hermance (1927-2023)

&nbsp; Harry Michael "Mike" Stewart of Sutherland died at Great Plains Health on October 26, 2023, at age 73. He was born March 2, 1950, to Harry "Gene" and Ruth Stewart in Sutherland.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm and attended Sutherland Public School.&nbsp; Mike was quite an athlete; he was active in track, football and basketball.&nbsp; He went to State in each sport and was on two state championship football teams. During his senior year Mike was crowned Homecoming King.&nbsp; After graduating in 1968, he went on to receive his Associates Degree in air conditioning and refrigeration from Mid-Plains Voc-Tech. Mike enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1971 and served close to four years.&nbsp; Following his discharge he returned to Sutherland to farm with his dad.&nbsp; During the off season Mike worked for Bill Goedert at Goedert Electric and this led to him receiving his Class A Journeyman Electrician License.&nbsp; In July 1981, Mike went to work for NPPD at the Gerald Gentleman Station, starting as an electrician helper and later promoted, one step at a time, to Electrician 1.&nbsp; In July 1989, he was promoted to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Foreman, a position he held until retiring.

On May 30, 1980, Mike was united in marriage to Andrea "Andy" Paulman in the garden of Andy's grandmother, Hazel Becker, in Hershey.&nbsp; The couple lived on the family farm, then moved into town.&nbsp; They welcomed three children: Harry Lee "Skeeter", Kristin and Jeffrey, and celebrated 43 years of marriage. Mike was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #208, and during the past couple years he served on the Sutherland Cemetery Board and Sutherland Hospital Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Ruth Stewart; and nephews, Sergey and Sean Gates. Mike is survived by his wife, Andy; children, Harry Lee Stewart (Dakota McConnell) of Paxton, Kristin Givens (Matthew) of Sasebo City, Japan, and Jeffrey Stewart of Omaha; grandchildren, Thaniel Stewart, Jaxson Stewart, Cara Givens, Zariah Stewart, Kerigan Givens, Riley McConnell and Rylan "Bubba" McConnell; his siblings, Tim Stewart (April) of McHenry, IL, and Peggy Gates of Golden, CO; as well as other family.

Timothy Roberts Elson, 68, of North Platte, passed away October 26, 2023 following a short illness. He was born February 16, 1955 to Jon R. and Marilyn L. (Wiggers) Elson.

Tim had a lot of travels in his life, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved riding his motorcycle.

Hipolito Fabela Jr. of Cozad passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 67. Hipolito was born September 27, 1955 in Muleshoe, Texas to Hipolito Fabela Sr. and Dora Fabela. He worked as an auto mechanic most of his life, which he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cynthia Fabela; and brother, Juan Fabela. Survivors include his daughter, Paulette Favela (William Burgos) and son, Paul Flores (Amber Kouba); grandchildren, Joel Favela, Cynthia Favela, Adrian Favela, Arianna Flores, Mya Flores, Lilah Flores and EJ Flores; sister, Lupe Gongora; brother, Oscar Fabela; significant other, Yuliet Peña; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Gregory J. Rhoadarmer, former Cozad resident, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at his home in Kearney at the age of 53. Greg was born March 7, 1970 at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Floyd Rhoadarmer and Judy (Buss) Rhoadarmer. Memorials are suggested to Kearney Area Animal Shelter. Cremation was chosen.

Ferma L. Scarrow, age 80, of McCook, NE passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Hillcrest Caring Center in McCook.

Ferma was born on November 14, 1942 in Vona, CO to parents Lloyd W. and Virginia L. (Havens) Wilkinson, Sr. She was one of four children. Ferma graduated from high school in Goodland, KS with the Class of 1960.

On October 3, 1964, Ferma married Cecil R. Scarrow in Goodland, KS. The family made their home in Stratton, NE and were the parents of six children. Cecil and Ferma always had a big garden and in the summer would spend time fishing and camping.

While raising their 6 children, she provided daycare to many residents of the community. Later on, they moved to McCook where Ferma worked as a department manager for Walmart until she retired in 2011. She enjoyed attending stock car races with Kevin, country music concerts with Jackie, and Kansas Jayhawk Basketball with Allen. Most of all, she was happiest spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ferma was preceded in death by parents; three children, Jennifer, Julianna and Steven Scarrow; brothers, Larry Wilkinson and Lloyd (Bud) Wilkinson; and a granddaughter, Brittani Daily. Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, Cecil Scarrow of McCook; children, Kevin (Kelly) Scarrow of Shawnee, KS, Jacqueline (Brian) Williams of Lincoln, NE, Allen (Jennifer) Scarrow of Sugar Land, TX; sister Sandy Keister (Bob Evans) of Goodland, KS; sister in law, Cindy Wilkinson of Sharon Springs, KS; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Adam Daily of Lincoln, NE, Larissa Daily and children, Kane and Jax Daily, all of Lincoln, NE, Kylie Scarrow of Sugar Land, TX, Becky (Chad) Plummer and children, Riley and Leah, all of Manhattan, KS, Heather (Alyssa) Williams and children, Easton and Aedion, all of Firestone, CO, and JaLissa (Jase Jackson) Williams of Lincoln, NE.

Ferma L. (Wilkinson) Scarrow (1942-2023)

Jeffrie Arthur Schmidt was born July 23, 1947 in North Platte, NE and departed this life on October 23, 2023 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jeff was the oldest of seven children born to C.J. and Marg (Kraus) Schmidt of North Platte, NE. &nbsp;He graduated in 1965 from St. Patrick High School in North Platte. &nbsp;He attended McCook Junior College and the University of Wyoming. &nbsp;Jeff then enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1969, where he served one tour in Southeast Asia. &nbsp;Jeff was honorably discharged in 1973 at the rank of Sergeant.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After returning home, Jeff worked for his father at C.J. Schmidt Electric, taking over the business after his parents passed. &nbsp;Jeff sold the business to Knobel Refrigeration where he worked for several years, until he retired in December 2022.&nbsp;

Jeff was involved in and held leadership roles with many community organizations including North Platte Day Care Center, Lions Club, Jaycees, Nebraskaland Days Committee including the Cody Cavalry, and the St. Patrick’s School Board. &nbsp;An avid hunter and fisherman he enjoyed Pendleton Whisky, good cigars and spending time with his friends and family. &nbsp;

Jeff is proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers Dan and Kevin, and one sister Mary Jo. &nbsp;He is survived by his daughter Erika, his sister Jennifer, brothers Dave (Jeanne) and Craig (Marilyn), sister-in-laws Jackie and Darla, nieces and nephews Sara (Ryan), Marcus (Kristin), Andy (Marie), Jenny, Carissa (LaMont), Katie, Aly, Ben, Mandie (Josh), Tim, and Jeff.&nbsp;

 </figure>Jeffrie Arthur Schmidt was born July 23, 1947 in North Platte, NE and departed this life on October 23, 2023 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeff was the oldest of seven children born to C.J. and Marg (Kraus) Schmidt of North Platte, NE. &nbsp;He graduated in 1965 from St. Patrick High School in North Platte. &nbsp;He attended McCook Junior College and the University of Wyoming. &nbsp;Jeff then enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1969, where he served one tour in Southeast Asia. &nbsp;Jeff was honorably discharged in 1973 at the rank of Sergeant.&nbsp;&nbsp;After returning home, Jeff worked for his father at C.J. Schmidt Electric, taking over the business after his parents passed. &nbsp;Jeff sold the business to Knobel Refrigeration where he worked for several years, until he retired in December 2022.&nbsp;Jeff was involved in and held leadership roles with many community organizations including North Platte Day Care Center, Lions Club, Jaycees, Nebraskaland Days Committee including the Cody Cavalry, and the St. Patrick’s School Board. &nbsp;An avid hunter and fisherman he enjoyed Pendleton Whisky, good cigars and spending time with his friends and family. &nbsp;Jeff is proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers Dan and Kevin, and one sister Mary Jo. &nbsp;He is survived by his daughter Erika, his sister Jennifer, brothers Dave (Jeanne) and Craig (Marilyn), sister-in-laws Jackie and Darla, nieces and nephews Sara (Ryan), Marcus (Kristin), Andy (Marie), Jenny, Carissa (LaMont), Katie, Aly, Ben, Mandie (Josh), Tim, and Jeff.&nbsp;A memorial has been established to the North Platte Catholic School Endowment Trust. &nbsp;Services are pending at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home.

Patricia Sampy age 89 of Ansley, NE passed away October 25, 2023, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City, NE.

Patricia Joann (Larsen) Sampy was born on November 28, 1933, in Springview, NE, to Arthur and Edna Larsen.

Pat graduated from Keya Paha County High School in Springview in 1951. Following her high school graduation, she pursued her education at Chadron State Teachers College, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1956. After completing her education, Pat embarked on a teaching career, with positions in Holdrege, Burwell, and Arcadia. In 1972, she continued her educational journey, earning her Master of Science in Education from Chadron State College and subsequently becoming the Guidance Counselor at Ansley Public Schools until her retirement.

On June 2, 1957, Pat and Dale were united in marriage, celebrating 66 wonderful years together. Their union was blessed with two children, Teresa and Steven.

Above all, Pat cherished her family and friends. She was Dale's biggest supporter during his coaching career, and she continued to support Steven, Jeff, and Marcus in their coaching endeavors. Pat was devoted to her children and grandchildren, attending almost every activity they were involved in.

The family she leaves to cherish her memory: Husband Dale Sampy of Ansley, Daughter Teresa (Jeff) Messersmith of Laurel, Son Steven (Linda) Sampy of Eustis and special family friends Dale (Kathy) Scott. Grandchildren: Marcus (Sidney) Messersmith of Hartington, Brittany Sampy of Lincoln, Kristin (David) Frey of Wayne, Trevor Scott of Minneapolis, Trent Scott of LeMars, Great Grandchildren: Quincy, Chaney, Sloane, and Palmer Messersmith, Iris Quiroz, Scarlet and Mavis Frey, Brother-in-law Jerry Steele of Omaha, and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna and brother-in-law Dale Brown, brother Paul Larsen, brother Bud Larsen and sister-in-law Marilyn Larsen, Sister-in-law Mary Steele, Granddaughter Cecile Sampy, and Great Grandson Jason Frey.

Don William Dillon (1952-2023)

&nbsp; Tillie G. Lucas was born November 21, 1931, in Brandon, Colorado, to Joseph and Helen (Kulchar) Sinka. As a young girl she grew up and attended school in the Brandon-Lamar, Colorado area. On May 5, 1950, Tillie married Kenneth R. Lucas in Raton, New Mexico, with their Aunt Mary and Uncle Earl standing up for them. To this union five children were born: Dennis, Richard, Karen, Tena and Dena. The couple made their home north of Lamar, Colorado, where she was busy assisting with the farming, working at Duckwalls, and raising the family. In 1970, they moved to a farm west of Wauneta, Nebraska, and Tillie assisted with the farming and decorated cakes for sale. Tillie and Kenneth moved to Wauneta in 1975, where they owned and operated Kendeta’s Drive Inn. Tillie later cooked at the Wauneta Senior Center and served in custodial duties at the Wauneta U.S. Post Office. She then operated the T and L Catering Service and the R and L Variety Store in Wauneta until retirement.

Tillie was a 4-H Leader, and later a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wauneta. Tillie enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, painting cameo/tri-chem items, and gardening. She especially loved to watch baseball and spend time with her family and friends.

Tillie passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial. Tillie was 91 years of age.

Tillie Gertrude Lucas (1931-2023)

Lyle E. McClellen, 87, of North Platte, NE went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and family.

Lyle was born in North Platte, NE on June 19, 1936, the son of Floyd O. and Opal (Kugler) McClellen. &nbsp;He married Kathryn Grandgenett on December 23, 1957 in Bellevue, NE and together they had eight children.

He grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. &nbsp;Lyle was a veteran of the U.S. Army enlisting on October 11, 1956 in Ft. Campbell, KY, and was honorably discharged on July 17, 1958 at Ft. Campbell, KY. &nbsp;He worked for a short time at Fairmonts Dairy in the production department. &nbsp;He then went on to a 26-year career with the U.S. Postal Service serving as a postal clerk, retiring in 1992.

Lyle was a devout and faithful Catholic and member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte. &nbsp;He was an active life member of the St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus council 1211 since 1957. &nbsp;He volunteered as a boy scout leader, baseball coach, football assistant coach, and was one of the original founders of the local food pantry (25+ years). &nbsp;He and Kathryn were foster parents, loved to travel together especially for six years in Arizona. &nbsp;Lyle was a golf enthusiast, enjoyed casinos, playing in card clubs, woodworking, and was a skilled handyman. &nbsp;Lyle will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Lyle’s memory are his wife of 65 years, Kathryn; children, Deborah (Christopher) Keith of Fountain, CO, Karen (Terry) Waite of North Platte, Catherine Hiatt of Lincoln, Roger (Pamela) McClellen of Charleston, S.C., Larry (Shãna) McClellen of Lincoln, John (Brenda) McClellen of North Platte, Loretta (Ben) Pavelka of North Platte and Michelle (Mark) Pieper of Lincoln; including 70 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Floyd McClellen; in-laws, Maurice and Amanda Grandgenett; brothers, Rich and Gerald (Mary) McClellen; brother and sister in-laws, Maurice Grandgenett, Mike and LaDonna Housh; son-in-law, Gilbert Hiatt; and grandson, Brett McClellen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Kadaprayil as celebrant. &nbsp;Burial with military honors will follow at a later date in Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. Memorial visitation will be from 1-7 pm, with the family receiving friends will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, October 27th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. &nbsp;Rosary prayers be recited at 6:30 pm.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, in his memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or to the Callahan Cancer Center.

Jesus B. Vergara of Cozad passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney at the age of 84. Jesus was born April 9, 1939 in Robstown, Texas in the family home to Eliseo and Angelita (Diaz) Vergara. He was the last of 11 children.

When he was young, he would go armadillo and rabbit hunting to help the family. He also enjoyed fly fishing. Jesus left school in the 8th grade to get a job and help pay bills.

He went wherever he could to find work: cotton picking, construction, oil fields, ship yards, city sanitation, and helping one of his brothers with his gardening business. When he moved to Cozad, he went to work at Tyson Packing Plant in Lexington, also helping with interpretation. His last job was at the Haven House as night supervisor. Checking people in, cooking, getting supplies. Jesus was with Haven House for 17 years.&nbsp;

Survivors include his children from his second marriage, Maria (Sid) Turner, Connie (William) DiAngilo, Angie (Gary) Garcia and Jesus Eliseo Jr.; his wife, Deborah E. Cawthra Vergara and her daughter, Elizabeth (Brad) Fischer, and their 4 children and her son, Johnathan Johnston; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

A family led memorial service for Jesus will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Living Hope Assembly of God Church in Cozad.

Jesus B. Vergara (1939-2023)

Donna Mary Hoing passed away at the age of 69, on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona with her children and sister by her side.

She was born on March 13th, 1954 in Sioux City, Iowa to Martha and Frank Skuodas. She graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1972. On October 21, 1972 she and Rick Popken were married and blessed with 3 children: Rae Terese, Joy and Cody. The eldest child, Rae Terese was stillborn in March 21, 1973.

Donna and Rick followed Rick’s employment with the IBP plant from Iowa to Colorado, then Colorado to Texas, back to Sioux City, Iowa and ended up living at the Overton Golf Course and working in Lexington in 1991. Upon arriving in Lexington, she became a part of the Quality Control Department of IBP (Tyson). She was driven, determined and had a strong work ethic. These qualities led to her becoming a top performer in her position at Tyson. Her demand for excellence and attention to detail in this area extended to her personal life and projects as well. She found much satisfaction in her 20+ years at the plant, earning the nickname Mama Donna with her coworkers. Her marriage to Rick ended in divorce.

Donna then moved to Johnson Lake, Nebraska where she spent much of her time on the deck, near the water and enjoying her time. She was ambitious and loved DIY, renovating her home, and creating a beautiful space in her yard. She always had a project that she was working on and could and would do anything that she set her mind to.

In 2011, Donna moved to Phoenix, Arizona to be near her sister Lucy. They spent their time thrifting, exploring nearby towns like Sedona, Prescott, and Jerome, volunteering at the local food pantry, and dancing whenever they could. They got tattoos in Las Vegas together, enjoyed food from Oktoberfest and Greekfest, and biked as far as 50 miles at times. They had holiday traditions as well. Halloween was especially fun for both of them because they loved dressing up and going out in elaborate costumes (thrifted of course). Christmas was always a movie and Chinese food and Mother’s Day was spent at the historic town on the Apache Trail, Tortilla Flat.

Donna loved her neighborhood of Sun City, because everything you could possibly want or need was nearby and the opportunity to get a great deal at a thrift store or garage sale was never far away. She also worked to remodel her condo with little to no help, installing tile, putting in fixtures, painting and even epoxy coating her garage floor on her own, much to the family’s dismay. She was detail oriented and meticulous, ensuring that everything was done precisely to her standards, literally from floor to ceiling.

She is survived by her children, Joy (Jerrod) Gray of Lexington, and Cody (Brandy) Popken of Lexington; her sisters and brothers, Lucy Connor of Phoenix Arizona, George (Vicki) Skuodas of Lincoln, Vida (Greg) Eden of Lincoln, and Vic Skuodas of Sioux City Iowa; grandchildren, Kamryn Pike, Kinley Popken and Declan Gray; sisters-in-law, Donna Skuodas of Sioux City, Iowa and Olwen Skuodas of Australia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her daughter, Rae Terese; siblings, Leon Skuodas, Birdie Fox, Bruno Skuodas, Alfred Skuodas and Wanda Skuodas.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Donna’s wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in honor of Donna’s love of thrifting and are kindly suggested to the Crossroads Mission in Lexington.

 </figure>Donna Mary Hoing passed away at the age of 69, on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona with her children and sister by her side.She was born on March 13th, 1954 in Sioux City, Iowa to Martha and Frank Skuodas. She graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1972. On October 21, 1972 she and Rick Popken were married and blessed with 3 children: Rae Terese, Joy and Cody. Donna Mary Hoing (1954-2023)

Ramona Joyce (Hudson) Ollendorf, 88 passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023 after a brief stay at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.&nbsp;

She was born south of Cozad, Nebraska on August 28, 1935, the daughter of Guy and Astrid T Hudson. She married Robert (Bob) Charles Ollendorf on August 27, 1955. Ramona is survived by her three daughters, Robin (Robert) Sowder, Fairborn, OH; RoxAnne (Mike) Schroeder, Gothenburg, NE; and Sheri Schwarz, Cozad, NE.

Ramona attended and graduated from Brady High School in 1953 and went on to attend Kearney State College. This allowed her to teach at two of the area rural one room schools, Jeffery Queen and Union School, in the hills for two years. During that time, she met her future husband, Bob, and often joked that she got the best premium because he had worked at a gas station that gave out drink glass premiums with each tank of gas. After a brief courtship, they were married and started their family. Ramona was a homemaker most of the time her daughters were growing up. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Garden Club, Art Club, and a charter member of the Gothenburg Historical Society. She enjoyed sewing, painting, photography, attending auctions, playing Scrabble and especially collecting and reading books of historical significance. Eventually, her love of auctions led to the owning and operating Arjay’s Collectibles. While operating Arjay’s she relished long conversations with the many local people and those passing through town.

Aside from Ramona’s daughters, she is survived by five grandchildren - Stacy (Matthew) Zehringer, Erik (Carolyn) Sowder, Preston Schroeder, Cassy (Jon) Smith, and Kyle (Vanessa) Schwarz and eight great-grandchildren She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Coble (Torrey Kloppenborg) and many nieces and nephews that will also miss her. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Astrid, husband, Bob, brother, Dan Hudson, and grandson, Ryan Schwarz.

Visitation and funeral will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th Street, Gothenburg, NE, Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am with visitation taking place two hours prior to the funeral. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Historical Society, Gothenburg Library Foundation, or donors’ choice.

Margie Ellingson, age 96, of Broken Bow passed away October 24, 2023, at the Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Margie E. Ellingson was born April 8, 1927, to Nordal and Ruby (Geiser) Ellingson near Broken Bow, NE. She attended schools in various communities in Custer County, graduating from Broken Bow High School.

On July 29, 1946, she married Dillard, they made their home in Broken Bow. Margie worked as a secretary for Gerald Thurman and Becton-Dickinson. She was a member of several secretarial organizations.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, several brothers-and sister-in-law, and other family members.

Survivors include son Larry Ellingson, brothers Robert and Harold “Dick” Ellingson, grandson Christopher, great grandson Christian and great granddaughters Alexia, Sadie, and Ashlyn Ellingson, plus many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2:30 pm at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE with Gary Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Margie Ellingson (1927-2023)

Daniel L. Linegar, Sr., age 69, of Hemingford, NE passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at his home.&nbsp;

Dan was born April 24, 1954 in Oberlin, KS to parents Richard and JoAnn (Leonard) Linegar. He was one of seven children. Dan graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1973.

On June 12, 1982, Dan married the love of his life, Cheryl A. (McConville) Linegar at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, NE. They were the proud parents of seven children. Dan worked for BNSF Railroad for 36 years and happily retired to his farm near Hemingford, NE.

Dan enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He cherished the time with his grandchildren by reading many stories, doing chores around the farm, and following their activities.&nbsp; Dan loved horses and owned Pineview Carriage Service with his team of Percherons “Jim and George” for eight years.&nbsp; He had a passion to teach family and friends horsemanship and how to ride.&nbsp; For over 10 years, Dan volunteered for the Equine Therapy Riding Program at East Point Horspice (EPH) and sat on the Board of Directors for the organization.

Dan is survived by his wife, Cheryl Linegar of Hemingford, NE; children, Krea (JP) Biernacki of Gering, NE, Daniel Linegar, Jr. of Alliance, NE, Christopher Matthews of Omaha, NE, Bryan (Malinda) Linegar of Chadron, NE, Jessica (Brian) Brown of Gillette, WY, Joseph (Jill) Linegar of Grand Forks, ND and Thomas (Emily) Linegar of South Beach, OR; siblings, Linda Craig, Rich (Sherry) Linegar, Sue (Scott) Fields, Connie Chandler, Steve (Fran) Linegar and Tim (DeAnn) Davis; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Daniel L. Linegar Sr. (1954-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; George Lee Wurm was born in Herndon, Kansas on August 17, 1940 to Lawrence George and Martha Elizabeth (Schrammel) Wurm. &nbsp;He attended school in Herndon and graduated from Herndon High School on May 21, 1958. &nbsp;George joined the United States Army in October of 1960. &nbsp;He was a member of the Green Berets and was honorably discharged in September of 1964.

&nbsp; &nbsp; On June 2, 1966, George was united in marriage to Ronda Oliver in Denver, Colorado. &nbsp;The couple made McCook their home and soon welcomed their four daughters. &nbsp;George worked as a Master Drywaller in McCook and the surrounding communities for over fifty years.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; George was a proud father and grandfather. &nbsp;He was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church and was a man of strong faith.

&nbsp; &nbsp; George was surrounded by his family when he passed away at his home in McCook on Monday evening, October 23, 2023. &nbsp;He was 83 years of age.

&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Shannon Pierce and Clayton Pierson; brothers, Lawrence and Dale Wurm; and a sister, Wyneman Cox.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Those left to carry on his memory are his wife of 57 years, Ronda of McCook; daughters: Patricia (Bob) Eilenberger of Donna, Texas, Pamela (Jim) Hungerford of Austin, Texas, Kimberly Pinkerton of McCook, and Kelli (Scott) Carlson of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren: Whitney (Isaac) Weyeneth, Chase (Mariah) Pierson, Kinsley (Corban) Giehle, Neal (Kelsey) Pierce, Terri (Logan) Mills, Taylor (Logan) Farrimond, Ciera Carlson, Kaylee Carlson, and Ashlyn Carlson; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Micah, David, Hannah, Hadassah, Sophia, Emma, Maddyn, Declan, Avery, and Teagan; as well as his sisters, Rosa Boehmn and Susan McKain.

 </figure>&nbsp; &nbsp; George Lee Wurm was born in Herndon, Kansas on August 17, 1940 to Lawrence George and Martha Elizabeth (Schrammel) Wurm. &nbsp;He attended school in Herndon and graduated from Herndon High School on May 21, 1958. &nbsp;George joined the United States Army in October of 1960. &nbsp;He was a member of the Green Berets and was honorably discharged in September of 1964.&nbsp; &nbsp; On June 2, 1966, George was united in marriage to Ronda Oliver in Denver, Colorado. &nbsp;The couple made McCook their home and soon welcomed their four daughters. &nbsp;George worked as a Master Drywaller in McCook and the surrounding communities for over fifty years.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; George was a proud father and grandfather. &nbsp;He was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church and was a man of strong faith.&nbsp; &nbsp; George was surrounded by his family when he passed away at his home in McCook on Monday evening, October 23, 2023. &nbsp;He was 83 years of age.&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Shannon Pierce and Clayton Pierson; brothers, Lawrence and Dale Wurm; and a sister, Wyneman Cox.&nbsp; &nbsp; Those left to carry on his memory are his wife of 57 years, Ronda of McCook; daughters: Patricia (Bob) Eilenberger of Donna, Texas, Pamela (Jim) Hungerford of Austin, Texas, Kimberly Pinkerton of McCook, and Kelli (Scott) Carlson of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren: Whitney (Isaac) Weyeneth, Chase (Mariah) Pierson, Kinsley (Corban) Giehle, Neal (Kelsey) Pierce, Terri (Logan) Mills, Taylor (Logan) Farrimond, Ciera Carlson, Kaylee Carlson, and Ashlyn Carlson; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Micah, David, Hannah, Hadassah, Sophia, Emma, Maddyn, Declan, Avery, and Teagan; as well as his sisters, Rosa Boehmn and Susan McKain.&nbsp; &nbsp; Visitation will be held from 2-5PM on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.&nbsp; &nbsp; Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30AM on Monday morning, October 30, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. &nbsp;Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook will follow services.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in George's name. George Lee Wurm (1940-2023)

Ray Lee Balderson was born May 29, 1930, to Lee Ray Balderson and Edith Arillia (Delaney) Balderson and left this life on October 21, 2023. Ray lived all but the last four years of his life within five miles of Benkelman. He attended elementary and high school in Benkelman graduating in 1948. He married Eleanor Maxine Herrick on August 4, 1957. To this union four children were born: Tamara Rae in 1958, Kevin Lee in 1960, Shauna Marie in 1962, and Darren Ray in 1964. He was a life-long member of the United Methodist church. While in high school, Ray joined the United Methodist church choir and continued singing for another 35 years as a soloist and with the men’s quartet for many, many local funerals. It is Ray’s love of music that prompted him to have a celebration of life with lots of singing.

Ray’s love of music was also apparent in how much he loved to dance. Whether this was dancing with Maxine on the country roads while waiting for the irrigation sprinklers to come to the manual stop position or square dancing on Saturday nights or teaching round dancing at the District 66 one-room schoolhouse. He was thrilled to teach his kids and grandkids how to waltz before their first school dances and continued to dance with them at their weddings.

Ray served Benkelman and Dundy County in many volunteer and service roles. He spent nine years on the Dundy County Extension Board with six of those years as the Chairman. He led the Dandy Dundy 4-H clubs specifically those for Beef, Rope Knot Tying, and Electricity. He was a life-long member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 70 years serving as the Grand Master in 1969 and again from 2016 – 2019. He was appointed to the Nebraska Ethanol Authority and Development Board by Governor Ben Nelson from 1992 to 1996. He was a board member and Chairman of the Chase/Dundy County Wheat Growers Association. He was a board member and Vice President of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association. Ray helped organize the Southwest Nebraska Resource Conservation and Development Board and served as its first President.

Ray and Maxine made their living on the farm which was homesteaded by his grandfather in 1895 and additional acreages purchased over the years. He took pride in raising certified seed wheat, corn, alfalfa, and purebred Charolais cattle. Ray also enjoyed delivering flowers for Flower Magic, the floral business that Maxine ran for almost 25 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed being a member of the Elra Gun Club where his team won several trophies. His most satisfying hobby was refurbishing his John Deere tractor collection and giving rides to family members big and small on the coveted Model 40 Crawler tractor. In their later years, Ray and Maxine enjoyed helping look after their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many memories were made taking the kids camping, boating, and teaching them to fish. In 2010, Ray was selected as a finalist for Nebraska Father of the Year. His family loved him dearly.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Tamara, nephew, Jim, brother-in-law, Ronnie, and sister-in-law, Rea. Ray is survived by Maxine, his wife of 66 years, children Kevin (Diane), Shauna, Darren (Melinda), nine grandkids, twelve great grandkids, brother Frank (Betty), brother-in-law, Roger (Jackie), sisters-in-law Patsy (Tom), and Joyce (Don), nephews and nieces, his farming neighbors, and his new neighbors at the Landing.

Visitation will be held Thursday October 26, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Benkelman memorial chapel. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 27 10:30 A.M at United Methodist Church in Benkelman with Reverend Art Williams officiating. Interment to follow at the Benkelman Cemetery. &nbsp; &nbsp; LaVon May Seybold, age 79, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away at the Mount Carmel Home in Kearney, Nebraska on October 18, 2023. &nbsp;She was born on October 2, 1944 in Sutherland, Nebraska to Floyd and LaVon Houser. &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; LaVon married Leo Seybold on September 16, 1962. &nbsp;They spent the early years of their marriage in Paxton, Nebraska where they had their five children. &nbsp;The couple later moved to Wellington, Colorado in 1979. &nbsp;When they decided to retire in 1997, they purchased a small acreage outside of Overton, Nebraska.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Lavon enjoyed a multitude of activities, ceramics, gardening, and raising animals just to name a few.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; parents, Floyd and Lavon; her twin brother, LaVern; and grandson, Bruce.

Darlyne (Hazen) Lindly, born October 28, 1938, in Milburn, Nebraska, left this world on October 16, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was a remarkable woman with a heart as vast as the Nebraska prairies she called home.&nbsp;

Darlyne's journey through life was an inspiring one. She began her education in Sargent, Nebraska, and her senior year saw her move and graduate from Merna High School in 1956. Following her high school years, she pursued her passion for beauty and attended Cosmetology School in Grand Island, where she honed her skills and embarked on a career that would touch the lives of many.&nbsp;

Darlyne's career as a cosmetologist took her to various salons in Ord, Valentine, and Broken Bow. She had an innate talent for making people feel their best, inside, and out. Her warm and welcoming nature was not limited to her professional life; it extended to her personal life as well.&nbsp;

It was while working at Becton-Dickinson in Broken Bow that Darlyne's life took a momentous turn. It was here that she crossed paths with Robert "Bob" Lindly, and the two hearts were united in matrimony on October 14, 1972, and made their home in Anselmo. Their union brought two precious daughters into the world, Brenda and Jennifer, and their family became the center of Darlyne's world.&nbsp;

Through the years, Darlyne wore many hats. She was a dedicated and loving mother and farmer's wife, always there for her daughters and her beloved Bob. Whether she was attending her girls' activities or preparing lunch for Bob and his team, her love knew no bounds. She had an open heart and a welcoming home, where everyone was embraced as a part of her extended family.&nbsp;

In 2016, Darlyne and Bob made the decision to move to Omaha, wanting to be closer to their daughters and grandsons; they were her world! &nbsp;This move marked a new chapter in their lives, and Darlyne continued to radiate warmth and friendship. She formed new bonds and cherished the precious moments spent with her grandsons, and they with her. This time was a treasure for all those lucky enough to be a part of her life.&nbsp;

In 2018, Darlyne faced the heart-wrenching loss of her husband, Robert. His passing was a profound moment of grief, and Darlyne continued to carry his memory in her heart.&nbsp;

Darlyne's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of generosity and unwavering love and support for her family and friends will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate to have her touch their lives.&nbsp;

As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we remember the indelible mark she left on the world. Darlyne's spirit will forever be a beacon of love, kindness, and the power of family bonds. May she rest in eternal peace.&nbsp;

Throughout her life Darlyne was a member of the United Methodist Church of Anselmo. She was also involved in many clubs and activities including but not limited to United Methodist Women, Eastern Star and The Rebekahs.&nbsp;

Larry graduated high school in Texas. After graduation he entered the US Army, serving in Korea on the 38th Parallel. &nbsp;After his discharge, he returned to Mankato, Kansas working as a meat inspector. &nbsp; He moved to Arkansas City, Kansas and then to Lexington, Nebraska to be a meat inspector at the IBP plant, where he retired. &nbsp; Larry enjoyed fishing and hunting. &nbsp;He always enjoyed meeting new people and he never knew a stranger. &nbsp;Larry loved his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. &nbsp;He had a special love for his dog Gator and classic rock and roll music. &nbsp;

Larrie worked at Monroe Auto right out of high school and farmed for one year, before going to work at Paulsen, Inc. where he retired after 56 years of faithful employment. Larrie enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family. He loved spending time with family and adored his grandchildren. Larrie could fix anything and was a skilled welder. He once built a duck blind that family referred to as “the bomb shelter”. He was preceded in death by his parents; and in laws, Lloyd and Jennie Rhinehart. Survivors include his wife, Janice of Cozad; children, Brenda (Farren) Stombaugh of Cozad, Phyllis Johnson of Cozad, Rick (Stacie) Johnson of North Platte, Jennifer (Jason) Schneider of Cozad, and Lacey (Allen) Anderson of Cozad; sister, Sharon (Larry) Call of Omaha; grandchildren, Jonathan (Cassy) Smith, Heather (Mark Neville) Smith, Christopher Smith, Jessica Tolle, Taryn Stombaugh, Trey (Alex) Stombaugh, Kim (Josh) Zwickl, Dillon (Crystal) Johnson, Samantha (Connor) Smith, Alyssa Klint) Gill, Gracie Schneider, Jayden Anderson, and Landen Anderson; 14 great grandchildren, and 3 more on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He graduated from UNSA in Curtis with the class of 1960. He married Janice Rhinehart on June 18, 1963. Their union was blessed with 5 children: Brenda, Phyllis, Rick, Jennifer and Lacey. Larrie E. Johnson (1943-2023)

On October 20, 2023, Donna Mae Myers, aged 85, passed away at Linden Court in North Platte, NE. &nbsp;She was born to Milton and Erma (Jobbins) Singley, the second of four children, in Dundy County at home.

Donna was raised in Dundy County and attended Parks High School in Parks, NE, graduating in 1957. &nbsp;As a young teen, she met Albert “Bud” Myers, and they were later married after high school. &nbsp;Three children were brought into the world from this union: Betty, Larry, and Judy. &nbsp;Donna spent her days at home raising the kids while her husband ranched. &nbsp;She was a phenomenal cook and baker and often cooked meals for ranchers. &nbsp;She was especially known for her delicious apple pies. &nbsp;Later, she began working for Stapleton Schools doing janitorial work. &nbsp;

The outdoors was where Donna loved to be. &nbsp;She was a member of the Nebraska Horse Association and loved going on trail rides with her horses, Roanie, Cricket, and Lady. &nbsp;Donna enjoyed coloring and doing puzzles, jigsaw, and word search puzzles. &nbsp;When there happened to be a rodeo on TV she always knew when and where, it was her favorite TV entertainment. &nbsp;She was very independent and opinionated. &nbsp;Donna was hard to crack but once you did, her love poured out. &nbsp;She was outgoing and typically made a friend wherever she went. &nbsp;

Those left to carry on Donna’s spirit include her children, Betty (Dave) Boyda of North Platte, Larry (Debbie) Myers of Stapleton, and Judy Layher of Stapleton; grandchildren, Tanya (Tyler) Redden of Imperial, Melissa (Freddie Leon) Salisbury of North Platte, Christina Rice of Houston, TX, John (Nikki) Rice of Ames, IA, Kayla (Frank) Kramer of Stapleton, Teejay (Chelsey Myers of Stapleton, Brad (Naomi) Layher of Stapleton, Jerry Layher of Alliance, and Stacy (David) Kraye of Mullen; 16 great grandkids; 6 great great grandkids; brother, Bob (Sharry) Singley; sister, Dorothy Singley; sister-in-law, Charlotte Myers; numerous other family members and friends.

Jody Rae Ryan, age 70, of North Platte, died October 20, 2023 at her home. &nbsp;She was born on January 10, 1953 in North Platte, to Tom and Bonnie (Baker) Anderson.

Jody graduated from North Platte high school with the class of 1971. &nbsp;She moved to Utah after graduation. &nbsp;After returning to North Platte, Jody attended Mid Plains Community College. &nbsp;She began working at Valley Vending and worked there for many years. &nbsp;Jody then worked for Great Plains Health, and retired from that career in December 2016. &nbsp;In 1990, Jody married Larry Gipe in Estes Park, CO.

Her family was the center of her life. &nbsp;Jody was a longtime foster parent, and had many children under her care through the years. &nbsp;Jody loved to travel, especially going with Larry to Sturgis every year on the motorcycle. &nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, Larry of North Platte; 11 children, Eric (Kim) Ryan of North Platte, Brandi Wright of Lisco, NE, Justin Gipe of Scottsbluff, Sylvia Smith of North Platte, Tyler Gipe of Benkleman, Crystal (Brett) Gartrell of Dickens, Jessica Lamb of Charlotte, NC, Tina (Kent) Kuchera of Bassett, George (Season) Gipe of Kearney, Dayton Gipe of North Platte, and Holly Gipe of North Platte; a favorite son-in-law, Tracy Rotter of Oshkosh; 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; and a brother, Vernon “ Sparky” (Cynthia) Ryan of Ft.
