Leo Eugene “Sonny” Simants, 86, of North Platte, passed away November 2, 2023 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;He was born May 22, 1937 to Albert and Lucille (Konruff) Simants in Tryon.

Sonny attended Whitehorse school and entered the United States Navy at 17 years old. &nbsp;He served on the USS Yorktown in the far East. &nbsp;After being discharged, he returned to North Platte. &nbsp;Sonny married Priscilla Wills, and to this union three children were born, Peggy, Penny, and David. &nbsp;

Sonny worked for a pivot irrigation company, a well drilling company, Union Pacific Railroad, and was a small engine mechanic. &nbsp;He worked at Western Outdoor Equipment and Nebraska Machinery . &nbsp;Sonny married Mary Thompson on March 30, 1978 in North Platte. &nbsp;To this union a son, Charles, was born. &nbsp;Sonny loved hunting and guns, especially hunting deer and turkey. &nbsp;He was a Husker and Raider football fan. &nbsp;His absolute greatest joy was his grandchildren. He was loved by many and always willing to lend a hand to anyone.

Survivors include wife, Mary of North Platte; children, Penny Mueller of Kearney, David Simants of Kearney, Charles (Renessa) Simants of North Platte, Sterling (Grace) Kovanda of Stapleton, Michael (Madge) Kovanda of Stapleton, Angie (Chris) Lewis of North Platte; grandchildren; Nick (Kasia) Gambs, Allison Brogdon, Kylee (Patrick), Kamron, Kingston, Karmen, Karter Simants, Willow Kovanda, Preston Kovanda, Amber (Tony) McIntosh, Joey Gihon, Angie Mayo, Dan Mueller, Matt Mueller, Lyndsey (Lane) Hogeland; good friend, Tony Gove of North Platte; siblings, Shirley Sawyer of McCook, Ted “Butch” (Doris) Simants of North Platte, and Roxanne Smith of Bellevue; numerous great grand-children, nieces and nephews; and his good friend Tony Gove of North Platte.

Isabel “Izzy” Snider, 86, of North Platte, NE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Centennial Park Nursing Home.&nbsp;

Izzy was born on March 12, 1937, in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of John M. and Ana Maria (Ochoa) Ortega. She grew up in Rosemead, CA, and graduated in 1956 from San Gabriel Mission High School, San Gabriel, CA. Soon after, her twin brother, Ernie, introduced her to his new friend Robert Snider from Navy Boot Camp in San Diego, CA. Robert and Izzy were married on June 15, 1957, at San Gabriel Mission. Four sons and one daughter were born to this union. They lived in California until 1973, when they moved to Maywood, NE.&nbsp;

Throughout their marriage, Izzy babysat and cared for many children. She was especially fond of rocking babies to sleep. Izzy was a devoted homemaker, fabulous cook, wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a blessing to her family and many friends. There were never enough presents or hugs and kisses for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish Izzy’s memory are her loving husband of 66 years, Robert A. Snider of North Platte, NE; sons, Larry (Jill) Snider of Etiwanda, CA, Bob (Debbie) Snider II of Granada Hills, CA, and John (Suzzane) Snider of Liberty, TX; daughter Lorraine (Jerry) Mullen of Maywood; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her very special nephew, David John Ortega, and family of Murrietta, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ana Maria Ortega; son, Ronald Snider; and twin brother, Ernest “Ernie” Ortega.&nbsp;

Prayer services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Father Randall Langhorst officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell. Isabel "Izzy" Snider (1937-2023)

Douglas McBeain of North Platte passed away at Great Plains Health on November 2, 2023, at age 73.

Doug was born in Austin, MN, on June 16, 1950, to Marvin and Genevieve McBeain. &nbsp;He grew up in Austin and in Perry, Clarksville and Guttenberg, IA. &nbsp;While in high school Doug worked for his father's service station and later the Ford dealer. &nbsp;After graduating high school he worked several different jobs and was a man of many talents.&nbsp;

In 1969 Doug married Robecca Wedeking. &nbsp;They moved to Colorado in 1973 and later divorced. &nbsp;Doug worked as a welder, later becoming a rancher. &nbsp;He married Judy Hanneman on November 27, 1979, in Denver where they lived until moving to Laramie, WY. &nbsp;Doug continued ranching until he had an accident in March of 1987.

Doug and Judy moved to Garber, IA, in 1992 then to North Platte six years later. &nbsp;Judy died in October 2010. &nbsp;On October 8, 2011, Doug married Tabitha Brewer in Las Vegas. &nbsp;They made their home together in North Platte.&nbsp;

Doug was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. &nbsp;He loved spending time with his family, friends and his beloved dogs, King, Jack and Maggie. &nbsp;Doug also enjoyed tracing his family's ancestry and loved studying and discussing the bible. He never met a stranger and used his disability to inspire others. &nbsp;Doug lived life to the fullest and was a cowboy, through and through.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; his parents; brothers, Duane and Steven; and a great-grandchild.

Doug is survived by his wife, Tabitha; his children, Jeremy (Cheryl) McBeain of Pueblo, CO, Joseph (Angel) McBeain of Grand Junction, CO, Joshua (Angela) McBeain of Commerce City, CO, and Tyler (Amy) McBeain of North Platte; sisters, Sherrie (Ralph) Seago of Eagle, CO, and Debbi (Kevin) Shaw of Madison, AL; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and other family.

Doug McBeain (1950-2023)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Donna Rae (Harwager) Story, who left this world on October 31, 2023, at the age of 81. She departed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with an acute illness. &nbsp;

Donna Rae was born on December 15, 1941, in a sod house on a homestead north of Arnold, Nebraska to her parents, Leo and Florence (Whipple) Harwager.&nbsp;

She was raised in Arnold and attended a one-room schoolhouse, Hall School, until the 8th grade before proceeding to the schoolhouse in town to attend high school before graduating in the class of 1959, with her high school sweetheart and her future husband, James (Jim) Edward Story. &nbsp;In the early dating days, Jim wasn’t permitted by her parents to take her out on dates until the milk cows were tended and they often spent their nights at the dance halls across the Sandhills. &nbsp;Donna was a waitress at Archie’s Cafe and kepts books at the Connor Implement growing up in Arnold.

Jim and Donna Rae were wed on January 21, 1961, at the Methodist Church in Arthur, Nebraska. &nbsp;They started their married life as he worked at the Flying A Cattle Company and Smith Farms in Arnold, Nebraska and the couple welcomed five children: &nbsp;Randy, Brian, Kelli, John, and Bob. Donna Rae spent her early days as a homemaker, supportive ranch wife, and mother to many. &nbsp;

In 1969, Jim and Donna moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa where they raised their kids and worked for the Garst Cattle Company. &nbsp;She supported the community by continuing the operations of the local bowling alley, and followed Jim to Delta Junction, Alaska to live for almost a year. Before relocating back to Stapleton, Nebraska in 1999, &nbsp;she became a certified 18-wheel truck driver, alongside her husband, for Lacaeyse Transport based in Grinnell, Iowa for over 15 years. &nbsp;The roadside adventures were a joy for Donna Rae to spend quality time traversing the country with Jim by her side from oceans, mountains, and everywhere in between. All the travels inspired her to often say, “I’ve been everywhere I wanted to go and some places I never knew I needed to see.” &nbsp;Her and Jim’s return home to Nebraska is inspired by her love for the Nebraska Sandhills. &nbsp;In Donna Rae’s words, “Once a Nebraska Sandhill girl, you’re always a Nebraska Sandhills girl.”&nbsp;

Family was Donna Rae’s number one priority and her life centered around them as their world centered around her. &nbsp;She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend to all who met her, leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Throughout her life, Donna Rae was known for her unwavering love, kindness, and generosity. She dedicated herself to her family, making countless sacrifices to ensure their happiness and well-being. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.&nbsp;

Donna Rae was a woman of many talents and interests. She enjoyed traveling, cooking for family, adventures (from exploring caves, riding rollercoasters, parasailing, swimming with sharks, touring the Louvre museum, sailing the Great Ocean Reef, and so much more!), winning at video poker, an avid reader and crossworder, mesmerized by fireworks and Christmas lights, cheering on Nebraska volleyball and football, and watching the annual sandhill crane migration. &nbsp;She especially found joy and cherished each and every holiday season with her husband and family. She shared her knowledge and enthusiasm with those around her, making lasting memories through shared experiences.

The memory of Donna Rae will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her gentle touch, her no-nonsense approach, and her ability to make even the darkest days seem brighter. Her spirit will continue to inspire us to be better, more loving individuals. She is and will always be remembered as an amazing lady.

James "Jim" Hunt (1965-2023)

On March 7, 1928, Adrian Krzycki was born to Vince and Lottie Krzycki on a farm near Farwell, NE. &nbsp;He peacefully passed away at the age of 95 On October 31, 2023, while residing at Centennial Park Retirement Village.

Adrian, or Kris as he preferred, lived in Farwell when he was young. &nbsp;His dad died when he was 2, then he moved to North Platte with his mom when he was 6 and this is where Kris grew up. &nbsp;He attended St. Patrick's Catholic High School and graduated in 1946, then enlisted into the U.S. Navy.

During his service time, Kris saw Japan, Guam and the South Pacific. &nbsp;Following his honorable discharge in 1948 he returned home and went to work for 6th Street Market as a meat cutter; his boss was his future father-in-law.

Kris met the love of his life, Louise Flint, at Joe's Supper Club in North Platte. &nbsp;When they exchanged their vows on November 11, 1950, they became the first couple to get married at the current St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and this year would have been their 75th anniversary.

Kris and Louise moved to California for a short time before returning home in 1953. &nbsp;From 1958-62 they lived in Scottsbluff and ran a restaurant, then moved to Longmont, CO, where they bought the Black Angus Drive-Inn and operated it from 1962-66. &nbsp;When they returned to North Platte in 1966 they bought Merrick's Ranch House. &nbsp;Kris, Louise, and their children all worked at the restaurant until they sold it in June 1982 to Bob and Jackie Karre and retired.

Kris was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus where he was a Grand Knight. &nbsp;He was also a member of the Eagles, Elks, V.F.W. and American Legion. &nbsp;

He loved to play golf, travel and play cards, every Tuesday was card day. &nbsp;Kris had a strong faith in the Lord. &nbsp;He was a hard worker, a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was one-in-a-million like his wife.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brother, Lavern Krzycki.

Kris leaves behind his children, Carrie Pruckler Rauff (Rich Olver) of Lakewood, CO, John Krzycki (Hilda Wright) of North Platte, Joseph Krzycki (Joni) of Columbus, OH, and Lori (Tim) Jorgensen of North Platte; grandchildren, Kelley Barnard (Steph), Rich Pruckler (JoJo), Jennifer Schlake (David), Jon Krzycki (Nealie), Laura Krzycki, Eric Jorgensen (Amy) and David Jorgensen; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Henry, Riley, Andrew, Liley, Will, Wyatt, Molly, Trevor and Cami; and other family.

On October 31, 2023, Evelyn Pauline Brecken “Granny” at the age of 101-1/2 went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Pauline was born on July 7, 1922, to William Clarence “Prunes” and Lena Leota (Kearns) Pearman in Seneca, Nebraska.

She was married to Bob Evans on December 30, 1939, unto this union three children were born: William Joseph (Jody), Leota Ann, and Betty Pauline.

While raising her children Pauline worked on several ranches, cleaned houses, and was a cook at Bud’s Café.

On July 27, 1952, she married Roy Bradley and moved to a ranch north of Mullen where they lived until they bought the Sandhills Motel and moved into Mullen, NE. After Roy’s death she continued to own and operate the motel.

She was a 4-H Leader, Extension Club President, belonged to Commercial Club, and was on the Town Board. She was a member of The Assembly of God Church in Mullen, NE.

Pauline was married to Wayne Brecken on March 7, 1971. He was in construction and later retired to help her operate the Sandhills Motel. Wayne always told her he was probably the first man to become a husband, father, and grandfather all in one day.

She was Queen of the Hooker County Fair. Also, she was the first woman to be voted “Fan of the Year”. Trying not to miss any more games than she absolutely had to. She had a special relationship with all of the kids and enjoyed each and every one of them.

It was at this time that she became known as “Granny” to the entire town, and some people still don’t know her real name. She loved to visit with anyone and didn’t know a stranger. Her heart was bigger than herself and she would help anyone if she could. Baking, sewing, and making jelly were favorite things of hers. She was known for her sewing of quilts, potholders, etc. At age 93, she made a quilt and raffled it off and gave the proceeds to a wounded warrior.

She helped at the Rustic Café, where Rhonda made her Sou Chef. Visiting with people from all over the country was a favorite thing of hers. At age 94 she was still ready to go tanking or ride a motorcycle. Her motto was: "If the wheels are turning, I’m going", and she did.

The thing that “Granny” enjoyed most was the gathering of her family. Of course, she was the life of the party. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Loved to beat you in a game of cards and hot seat. She was a force to be reckoned with and will be greatly missed.

Survivors are her children Jody (Bea) Evans, Leota (Pat) Donohoe, and Betty (Willard) Boyer. Grandchildren: Will (Kelly) Donohoe, John (Teresa) Donohoe, Gary Evans, Dean (Christi) Boyer, and Starla (Tony) Spurlin. Great grandchildren: Eric (Shauna), Mellissa, Kate (Clint), Emily (Kelsey), Savannah, Tanner (Bailee), and Chance Donohoe, Trey (Courtney), Teran (Mackenzie), Tyan (Jaysa), and Teya Boyer, Jarod (Lexie) and Hunter (Morgan) Spurlin. Great great grandchildren: Hayley and Jenna Donohoe, Carter Donohoe, Collin Donohoe, William Spurlin, Winnie Contrares, Carter and Cole Boyer and Henry Svoboda, and numerous other family members and friends.

Preceding her in death were parents, husbands, Roy Bradley and Wayne Brecken, two stepsons Darwin and Orville Bradley, siblings Eunice Wolfenden, Joan Garner, Woodrow “Bink” Pearman, Alex “Eck” Pearman, Kathleen “Kat” Boyer, Elmer “Neak” Pearman and a beloved grandson Paul Evans.

Lorene "Lorie" O'Neil (1957-2023)

On October 31, 2023, Donna “Perk” Jean Perkins, aged 83, went to be with her family in Heaven where they are surely laughing together and singing hymns. &nbsp;She was born in North Platte on February 27, 1940, to Vern and Liona (Clement) Bennett.

Donna was raised in the Cozad and Gothenburg area and attended North Platte High School, where she met her future husband, Richard Perkins. &nbsp;They were wed on August 17, 1956, in North Platte. &nbsp;The couple had three daughters: Cheryl, Joyce, and Lisa. &nbsp;Donna began a life long profession caring for others, first at Marzloff Nursing Home. &nbsp;She then went on to work at Memorial Hospital as a scrub nurse, aiding in the delivery of many babies. &nbsp;Donna worked at several clinics in the medical records department, before beginning a job as a hostess at the Lincoln Highway Diner, where she worked until her retirement in 2015.

Family was always Donna’s number one priority. &nbsp;She loved her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids fiercely. &nbsp;She enjoyed several different hobbies including bingo, watching cooking shows, and playing cards, specifically poker. &nbsp;Anyone that knew Donna, knew she was dedicated to the Nebraska Huskers and loved to show her patriotic side with the décor outside and insider her home. &nbsp;Donna was always outgoing and friendly and made friends everywhere she went. &nbsp;Several years ago, her residential road needed a name and she offered up “Friendly Lane” and the neighborhood agreed. &nbsp;A special mention to Mary Stoddard, her neighbor and very best friend.

Those that survive Donna include her husband, Richard of 67 years; daughters, Joyce (Sam Trent) Perkins, and Lisa Pierson; grandkids, Kendra Grove, Tammy Titchen, Patricia Broeder, Ricky Titchen, Kortni (Tusten Golter) Pierson, Trent Pierson, Trey Pierson; great grand kids, Isaiah Storonskij, EmmaLee Storonskij, Taila Cochren, Alexis Grove, Cody Titchen; siblings, Robert “Bob” Thrash, and Penny (Gary) Stephens; neighbors and close friends, Larry and Mary Stoddard; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Vern and Liona; parents-in-law, Dell and Margaret Alice Perkins; grandparents, Claude and Fern Clement; daughter, Cheryl Stoller; siblings, Bonnie Federson, Larry Mahone, Jim Thrash, Mark Hamell, and Mick Hamell.

 </figure>On October 31, 2023, Donna “Perk” Jean Perkins, aged 83, went to be with her family in Heaven where they are surely laughing together and singing hymns. &nbsp;She was born in North Platte on February 27, 1940, to Vern and Liona (Clement) Bennett.Donna was raised in the Cozad and Gothenburg area and attended North Platte High School, where she met her future husband, Richard Perkins. &nbsp;They were wed on August 17, 1956, in North Platte. &nbsp;The couple had three daughters: Cheryl, Joyce, and Lisa. &nbsp;Donna began a life long profession caring for others, first at Marzloff Nursing Home. &nbsp;She then went on to work at Memorial Hospital as a scrub nurse, aiding in the delivery of many babies. &nbsp;Donna worked at several clinics in the medical records department, before beginning a job as a hostess at the Lincoln Highway Diner, where she worked until her retirement in 2015.Family was always Donna’s number one priority. &nbsp;She loved her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids fiercely. &nbsp;She enjoyed several different hobbies including bingo, watching cooking shows, and playing cards, specifically poker. &nbsp;Anyone that knew Donna, knew she was dedicated to the Nebraska Huskers and loved to show her patriotic side with the décor outside and insider her home. &nbsp;Donna was always outgoing and friendly and made friends everywhere she went. &nbsp;Several years ago, her residential road needed a name and she offered up “Friendly Lane” and the neighborhood agreed. &nbsp;A special mention to Mary Stoddard, her neighbor and very best friend.Those that survive Donna include her husband, Richard of 67 years; daughters, Joyce (Sam Trent) Perkins, and Lisa Pierson; grandkids, Kendra Grove, Tammy Titchen, Patricia Broeder, Ricky Titchen, Kortni (Tusten Golter) Pierson, Trent Pierson, Trey Pierson; great grand kids, Isaiah Storonskij, EmmaLee Storonskij, Taila Cochren, Alexis Grove, Cody Titchen; siblings, Robert “Bob” Thrash, and Penny (Gary) Stephens; neighbors and close friends, Larry and Mary Stoddard; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.Preceding her in death are her parents, Vern and Liona; parents-in-law, Dell and Margaret Alice Perkins; grandparents, Claude and Fern Clement; daughter, Cheryl Stoller; siblings, Bonnie Federson, Larry Mahone, Jim Thrash, Mark Hamell, and Mick Hamell.Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. &nbsp;Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home with Job Vigil officiating. &nbsp;Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 12 PM to 4 PM at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home. &nbsp;The family has requested that masks be worn during the funeral service. &nbsp;Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leona Wilhmenia Fahnholz, 98, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away October 31, 2023, at Linden Court in North Platte. She was born on June 25, 1925 to Herman and Mary (Weber) Schievelbein in Arapahoe, Nebraska.

Leona grew up in Arapahoe and attended Emmanuel grade school. &nbsp; &nbsp;She was united in marriage to Richard Fahnholz on May 4, 1942, in Wilsonville, Nebraska. &nbsp;They lived on a farm until 1949. &nbsp;They moved to North Platte where she worked at the Pawnee Hotel for many years. Richard and Leona started the Fahnholz Septic business and continued to run the business until she was 94 years old. &nbsp;She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. &nbsp;She enjoyed gardening and canning. &nbsp;Leona loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. &nbsp;She had a love for music, especially Christian and polka music.

Leona is survived by her son, Darrell (Kay) Fahnholz, Callaway, Nebraska; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; along with numerous other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Geraldine; son, Kenneth; 2 grandsons, Kevin Fahnholz, Jim Woodcock; 3 infant grand-daughters; 2 brothers, Henry and Norman; 2 sisters, Berdina Evans, Marilyn Schievelbein. &nbsp;

&nbsp; Patrick O. Reckard of North Platte died unexpectedly on October 31,2023, at age 70.

Pat, the son of Robert and Lois Reckard, was born March 2, 1953, in North Platte where he grew up.&nbsp; After graduating from N.P.H.S. in 1972 he attended college in Sterling, CO, for a year.&nbsp; Pat came back to North Platte then moved to Salt Lake City for a short time before returning home.

In 1977 Pat hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad, working as a Fireman/Oiler.&nbsp; He retired from the railroad in 2013.

On May 23, 1981, Pat married Melinda Peal in North Platte where they resided and raised a family.&nbsp; Pat was an avid bowler for many years.&nbsp; He was a past member of the Lincoln County Bass Masters Club and Jaycee's. Pat enjoyed playing cards, watching Westerns, and his favorite teams were the Huskers and Royals Baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Peggy Reckard.

Pat is survived by his wife, Melinda, and sons, Brady Reckard and Kelsey Reckard of North Platte; daughters, Charity Hansen (Bubbi) of Lincoln and Tiffany Hill (Jeremy) of North Platte; grandchildren, Lark and Luka; his sister, Robin Reckard of North Platte; and other family.

Patrick O. Reckard (1953-2023)

DeLoris Ruth Summers died October 25, 2023, at home, in Marquis Assisted Living Center, Tualatin, Oregon. DeLoris was 91 years old. She was born May 26, 1932, and grew up on a farm outside of Bartley, Nebraska.&nbsp; DeLoris was the only child of Louis and Viola (Wall) Schaffert.&nbsp; DeLoris had fun growing up on the farm and liked telling stories such as riding her pony to country school.&nbsp; DeLoris had many cousins and relatives near her farm and life revolved around family and their country Lutheran church.&nbsp; Her grandfather lived with the family when DeLoris was young and kept the little girl occupied.&nbsp; She loved her grandfather very much.&nbsp; WW II, the Great Depression and drought figured strongly in her early life.

DeLoris went to Cambridge high school where she met another student Harold Blaine Summers, her future husband.&nbsp; DeLoris and Harold had a high school romance that started in 1946.&nbsp; They were married on June 15, 1952, in Cambridge, Nebraska. Harold was drafted into the Army one month after they married.&nbsp; They were fortunate he had played football for the University of Nebraska as he went to Germany to play football for the Army (instead of Korea).&nbsp; Harold returned from the Army in 1954.&nbsp; They moved to Crete, Nebraska where Harold graduated from Doane College.&nbsp; DeLoris worked as a bank teller while living in Cambridge and Crete.

Harold and DeLoris moved to Kearney, NE for Harold’s work after college where their son David was born.&nbsp; DeLoris was the Cub Scouts leader and taxicab driver, in her little red VW Bug, for David and his friends.&nbsp; She often tried for the world record of how many squirming 5-year-olds you could stuff in a VW Bug...plus a wiener dog!&nbsp; DeLoris was David’s biggest supporter in sports and loved to go camping in the family’s travel trailer.&nbsp; She also worked in the Lutheran Church office in Kearney for many years. &nbsp;Her church activities also involved playing the piano and organ at church services for many years.&nbsp; &nbsp;Harold worked for Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in Kearney.&nbsp; He moved with the company to Hastings, NE where they lived for four years, and then Lincoln, NE where Harold retired in 1993.&nbsp; Both Harold and DeLoris were rabid Husker fans!&nbsp; They enjoyed attending Husker sporting events.&nbsp; DeLoris also enjoyed researching her Germans from Russia heritage with the US headquarters in Lincoln.&nbsp; DeLoris made friends easily and cherished her friendships.&nbsp; She would stay in touch with friends she developed in each of these cities over her lifetime.

Harold, DeLoris and DeLoris’ mother, Viola, moved to Tualatin, OR in 1994 to be near their son David and wife Kendra.&nbsp; Harold developed Parkinson’s Disease soon after he retired, so DeLoris was caregiver for both Harold and her mother Viola.&nbsp; DeLoris was a devout Christian and was active in the Living Savior Lutheran Church in Tualatin, OR.&nbsp; For many years, DeLoris led the Amazing Grays, a senior group within the church.&nbsp; DeLoris enjoyed her work with the group very much.

DeLoris is preceded in death by her husband in 2004 after 52 years of marriage.&nbsp; DeLoris is survived by her son David Summers and his wife Kendra (Schwab) who live in Tualatin.

Evelyn Rose Davis, 90, of Farnam, NE passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, NE.&nbsp;

Evelyn was born August 29, 1933 at Farnam, Nebraska to Robert and Freda (Thumm) Zeeh.&nbsp;

She graduated from Farnam High School in 1950. She attended and received her Teaching Certificate from Kearney State Teachers College and taught country school for a short time. &nbsp;Evelyn married C. Kent Davis on October 18, 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. While Kent was serving in the Navy they resided in Norfolk, VA then returned to Farnam. The couple was blessed with 4 children: Gary, Marcia, Karen, Carson. She spent her time as a busy farm wife, mom, and by keeping books for the well repair business they started in 1956. She loved being a grandma!!, gardening, genealogy, reading and watching Husker Volleyball. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards and games. She enjoyed baking, with pretzels being a family favorite. Evelyn volunteered at the Senior Center, belonged to Ladies Auxiliary, HOP Club, U &amp; I Club, Farnam Library board member, and lifelong member at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kent in 1994; infant brother, Kenneth Wayne Zeeh; brother, Bob Zeeh; in-laws, Charley and Elsie Davis; sister-in-law Jeweldine (Orville) &nbsp;Gaibler; brothers-in-law Russ Williams; Glen (Betty) Davis.&nbsp;

Pat was born on July 2, 1936, in Lexington, Nebraska to Marion Menke and Helen (Strauss) Menke. She attended rural grade school at District 16 until she went to town for high school. She was a 1954 graduate of Lexington High School. Pat had many lifelong friends from her school days in Lexington and always looked forward to her honor year class reunions. Pat attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was a member and supporter of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Between her junior and senior years, she attended the Ray-Vogue Art School in Chicago, furthering her education in fashion design. She returned to UNL to obtain her college degree and upon graduation, she was employed by the prominent Miller and Paine department store as a women's clothing buyer. A highlight of her life was traveling by train to Chicago and New York City for buying trips.

During her senior year at UNL, Pat met Doran Post and they were united in marriage on December 2, 1961. Their life together spanned sixty one years. They made their first home in Shelton, Nebraska for one year before moving to Lexington. They had three children: Katy, Mary, and Jeff. Pat took pride in making a beautiful life for her family. She provided scrumptious home cooked meals, packing up many a picnic dinner to take to the farm during the planting and harvesting seasons. The door was always open to the kids‘ friends and there were always baked goods on the kitchen counter to share with anyone who stopped by. Summers were spent at Johnson Lake and the family enjoyed several ski trips and many vacations together through the years.

Pat was an active member of the Lexington community. Pat was employed at Home Federal Savings and Loan for 17 years from 1980 to 1997. She was a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served in various roles throughout the years. &nbsp;She was a member of PEO Chapter AN and was a past president. She also enjoyed the friendships she made by participating in local bridge clubs and investments clubs. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Pat was very proud of the Lexington community. She was elected to serve on the Lexington School Board from 1976 to 1980. Pat was always an avid supporter of Lexington High School sports. If not in attendance, her handheld transistor radio was right beside her tuned to KRVN. She also loved the Huskers and never missed a televised football or volleyball game. Pat and Doran had many friends. They loved dinners out with them and participated in several dance clubs and supper clubs through the years.

Pat relished in being a grandmother to her nine grandchildren more than anything else. She tried to attend as many of their school and sporting events as possible. Oftentimes, Katy's kids would stop by with their friends between school activities and Pat made many trips to Omaha to stay with Mary or Jeff's kids and attend their events. The grandchildren loved their grandmother’s cooking and always looked forward to the family holiday gatherings knowing all their favorites would be served. Each grandchild has a Beanie Baby collection that would rival the most avid collector, courtesy of Pat.

Pat had a warm smile and a genuine interest in everyone she met that made them feel acknowledged and special. She was a picture of grace and elegance. She will be so dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are Katy and Alan Seberger of Lexington, Mary and Scott Lundgren of Omaha, and Jeff and Mimi Post of Omaha; grandchildren Alison and Andy Keirns, Bridget Seberger, Sam Seberger, Collin and Ainsley Lundgren, Camden and Natalie Lundgren, Connor Lundgren, Macy Lundgren, Siena Gleason, Tag Gleason; great grandchildren Lucas Keirns, Delaney Keirns, Lily Keirns, Brynnly Keirns, Brooks Lundgren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gail and Jim Anderson; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kay Denker, brother-in-law Bill Denker, sister-in-law Pat Evans-Austin, brother-in-law Wilbur Evans, and nephew Dan Evans.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating. The Service will be live-streamed via lexpresbyterian.com and click the YouTube link.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Pat Post (1936-2023)

Ruby Mae Schulte, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 5, 1934, in Custer County, Nebraska to Carl and Mary (Norden) Loar.

Ruby was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Schulte on February 18, 1952, in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Five children were blessed to this union: Michael, Joyce, Wanda, Linda, and Cindy. The couple made their home in Lexington and Grand Island until moving to Kearney in 1956. They moved to Thousand Oaks, California, for two years, but returned to Lexington in 1971.

Ruby was a devout member of many organizations. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Lexington and taught Sunday school for many years. &nbsp;Ruby attended a bible study group every week and devoted her time to the Prayer Connection. She was the president of the Navy Mother's Club, a part of the Tri County Hospital Auxiliary and Christian Women's Club as well as a Lexington Public School mentor. Ruby was quite the social butterfly, and she never knew a stranger.

Sports were a big deal to Ruby. She loved watching her favorite sports teams including the Huskers, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and especially the Kansas City Royals. She also loved watching her grandchildren play on their sports teams. Her family was one of the most important things to her, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael (Katy) Schulte of Lexington, Joyce Knickelbein of Lexington, Wanda (Jerry) Fisher of Cozad, Linda (Jerry) Halouska of North Platte, and Cindy (Mike) Lanini of Lincoln; brother, Angus Cameron of Arizona; sisters, Darlene Welch of North Platte, and Loretta Sickler of Arizona; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and many, many friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Schulte, her sister, Betty Saldivar, and great-granddaughter, Faith.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God in Lexington, with Pastor Rex Adams, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Lexington.

James grew up in Omaha and worked as a mechanic for many years. &nbsp;He moved to Hershey and worked as a mechanic in various places. &nbsp;He owned his own shop, Rivera’s Auto Repair. &nbsp;James will be remembered as very giving with his mechanical skills. &nbsp;He was always joking and laughing and was fun to be around. &nbsp;James enjoyed life and didn’t take things too seriously.

James Aurelio Rivera (1954-2023)

&nbsp; At 1:57 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, Michael LeRoy Bellew passed away at Bryan West Medical Hospice in Lincoln.&nbsp; He was 63 years old.

Mike was born January 26, 1960, to Russell and Marilyn Bellew in North Platte.&nbsp; He attended North Platte High School where he played football and was on the track team, triple jump was his favorite event.&nbsp; After graduating in 1978, Mike hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; He was a Fireman/Oiler then became an engineer in 1988.&nbsp; He worked until retiring in January 2020.

Mike was married and had three children, Ryan, Chelsie and Tanner, then met the love of his life, Pam Oelke.&nbsp; After they married on December 29,2005, he gained another child, Devin Oelke.&nbsp; Family, especially his children, grandchildren and granddogs, were the center of Mike's life.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge where he was president for many years and a Gold Coat, and the Eagle's Lodge where he directed the State Eagle's Pool Tournament in North Platte for three years.&nbsp; Mike liked playing pool and played with his favorite pool stick, "Grandpa".

His favorite hobby (before and after retiring) was fishing, especially with his best buddy, Brian Marquette.&nbsp; He enjoyed camping, Comstock Rock, golfing at Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, watching Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott, listening to Bob Seger, and the annual 4th of July parties in Lincoln at his home "The Magic House".&nbsp; Husker football games were #1 to Mike and he loved watching from the Skybox in Lincoln.

Mike gives a special thanks to his friends, Dennis and Connie Dailey. He had a great life and leaves us all with many great memories. Mike will certainly be missed!

Vernon “Vern” D. Esch, age 82, of Indianola, NE passed away at Community Hospital in McCook, NE on October 27, 2023. He was born in McCook, on April 15, 1941 to Walter and Rose (Breitling) Esch. Vern was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church (Ash Creek), rural McCook, where he was a lifetime member. He very much enjoyed gospel music and sang in the church choir for over 60 years. He attended parochial school through the 8th grade at Ash Creek, then attended Red Willow High School, graduating in 1959.

On April 15, 1962 (yes, his birthday), he was united in marriage to Sara Doyle at St. John Lutheran Church (Ash Creek). Vern and Sara started their married life on a farm in the Ash Creek community. In March of 1969, they moved into their newly built home just north of Red Willow, where Vern started his new endeavor; Vern’s Welding Shop. In 1980, Vern got back into the world of farming, taking over the Doyle family farm upon the retirement of his father-in-law, Robert (Bob) Doyle.

During Vern’s retirement years, he spent countless hours making rocking horses which he gave away to many families throughout the region. We are uncertain of the total number that he made, but we know it was more than 250. He also spent countless hours building farm equipment to Pedal Tractor scale.

Sports and youth played a major role in Vern’s life. He pitched fastpitch softball for numerous years, playing softball into his 50’s. He was a proud high school supporter, attending hundreds of football, volleyball, basketball, track and field, baseball, and softball games over the years. Vern’s enthusiasm for sports and kids led him and Sara to establish Red Willow Diamonds, two youth baseball/softball fields that are used for practice by area travel teams, in 2011. Vern thoroughly enjoyed seeing kids and teams practice their skills at the fields.

In 2008, Vern’s 1958/1959 Red Willow Zephyrs High School sports teams in football, basketball, and track &amp; field were inducted into the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame, Each of these teams won state championships during that school year. Vern was quite proud of this achievement.

Vern was a member of the Nebraska National Guard from 1959-1965, where his primary duty was a cook. Even though Vern often bragged about his cooking duties, his family never actually witnessed those skills being put to use!

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher, parents, Walter and Rose, stepmother, Emma, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Emma Mae Doyle, brother, Harold, sister-in-law, Melva, and sister Dorothy.

Vern is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara: sons Brian (Mary) Esch of McCook, Darren (Tyler) Esch of Indianola, and Gene (Leigh Ann) Esch of West Simsbury, CT; grandchildren: Marisa (Trevor) Hoins, Brady Esch, Hailey (Ryan) Steider, Hannah (Kasey) Taylor, Mackenzie (Skyler) Kalinski, Helana &amp; Archer Esch, Devon &amp; Whitney Davis; great grandchildren: Aiden &amp; Emma Steider, Kaysen Taylor, Jaxx, Gracelynn, &amp; Beauden Kalinski, and baby Hoins in early 2024.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Family will be present to greet friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church (Ash Creek), rural McCook with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials contributions in lieu of flowers may be given in Vern’s name to be designated for youth programs.

Vernon D. Esch (1941-2023)

Donna Elaine Lanckriet, 85, longtime Ogallala resident, passed away at the Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, Nebraska, on October 26, 2023.

Born on March 16, 1938, in Hemingford, Nebraska, Donna was the daughter of Lloyd and Lela (Bowser) Appleyard. She graduated from Hemingford High School and continued her education at Chadron State College, where she earned a degree in Science.

Before completing her college degree, Donna devoted 11 years to teaching in rural schools east of Hemingford. Donna then moved to Ogallala, where she served as a first-grade teacher from the fall of 1969 until her retirement in 1998.

In 1973, Donna married Clarence 'Jerry' Lanckriet.

An avid nature enthusiast, Donna enjoyed gardening and birdwatching, with a particular fondness for Cardinals. A longtime member of the Catholic Church, she also served on various committees for the Ogallala Education Association.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry; and her brother, Gene Appleyard. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Bonnie Appleyard of Alliance, Nebraska. Also, nieces and nephews: Debbie &amp; Randy Dorenbach, Brenda &amp; Mario Flores, Cheri &amp; JC Gasseling, Pam &amp; Jared Letcher, and Cory Appleyard &amp; Cristy Finley. Along with numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

Donna Lanckriet (1938-2023)

John Pepper, 85, of Ogallala, a beloved father, companion, grandfather, son, and brother, went to his eternal home on October 26, 2023. Known for his gift of gab and a knack for buying and selling just about anything, John's multifaceted talents made him a jack of all trades.

Born on December 14, 1937, in Denver, Colorado, John was adopted at the tender age of two weeks by Clifford and Nora Pepper. He grew up on a farm in Karval, Colorado. On June 15, 1958, he married Carol Pepper, and though they would later divorce, their union was blessed with three children: Tammy Febry in 1959, Ricky Pepper in 1960, and Dalene Berger in 1961. The family eventually moved to Nebraska, where John began his TV business in Ogallala after working for Stickneys. He also worked as a maintenance man at Indian Hills Manor.

For over 20 years, John found companionship and love with Edna Bates. The couple had a unique bond, often sharing simple joys like holding hands and caring for their cats.

John loved to hunt and fish whenever he got the chance. He loved Edna and his family, with a special place in his heart for his cats.

John is survived by his loving companion, Edna Bates; his children, Tammy, Ricky, and Dalene (Vincent); stepdaughter Susan (Steve); and half-brother James Coffman. His grandchildren include Chris (Deserae) Martin, Krista (Tyler) Nord, Jason Febry, and Lorie Sellers (Steve). He leaves behind many great and great-great-grandchildren, as well as a biological half-first cousin, Judith Kietzman, whom he found later in life.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Nora and Clifford Pepper; his biological parents, Harley Coffman and Mildred Wietzel; son-in-law, Patrick Febry; half-sisters, Nadene Scott and Katie Nosbisch; stepson Gary Bates; and step-grandson Mark Berger.
