David Robert “Bob” Bobinmyer, age 97, of McCook, NE passed away on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook, NE.&nbsp;

David Robert “Bob” Bobinmyer was born on the Bobinmyer Ranch (Homesteaded 1886) South of Culbertson, NE on October 16, 1925 to John E. and Anna B. (Drain) Bobinmyer.&nbsp; He was the 3rd child of six children.&nbsp; He attended country school through the 7th grade.&nbsp; He attended 8th grade through High School at Herndon, KS graduating in 1943.&nbsp; In High School he went out for football and boxed at the McCook Elks Boxing Club and won the 118 lb. class to go on to the Golden Gloves in Omaha in 1942.&nbsp; He continued to box in the Navy.

Bob was drafted in the Navy on January 6, 1945.&nbsp; He was assigned to the LST 596 Asian/Pacific as a motor Machinist 3rd Class.&nbsp; He was discharged in July of 1946.

Bob returned to the family farm in 1946.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Vera Victoria Case on August 10, 1947 at the home of her parents in rural Culbertson, NE.&nbsp; To this union, three children were born: James Edward “Jim”, David Robert J. and Vicki Ann.&nbsp; They made their home on the Bobinmyer Ranch until 1971 moving into McCook.&nbsp;

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially woodworking and gardening.&nbsp; He made an array of different things, and he liked working in his trees and garden.&nbsp; Bob and Vera enjoyed going to dances, watching their grandchildren and attending their many activities.&nbsp;

Bob had been a member of: Election board, school board district 18, original member of the Culbertson Rural Fire Department, UCC church in Herdon, McCook COOP Equity board, Lifetime member of the VFW, Elks 50 years and Eagles 40 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, of 73 years, sons Jim and Dave; his parents John and Anna; brothers June and Doug; sisters Doris Wacker and Norma Strunk.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Vicki Berkley and husband James of Stockton, KS; daughter-in-law Hazel Bobinmyer; Grandchildren, Jonathan Berkley and wife, Nikki of Stockton, KS, Brian Berkley and wife Quincy, of Stockton, KS and Renee Berkley Earl and husband Capt. Levi USMC Yuma, AZ, Jaime Hornecker and husband Heath of Casper, WY, Tyler Bobinmyer and wife Jenna of Culbertson, NE, Cody Bobinmyer and Haley of Gordan, NE; great grandchildren, Henry, Charlotte, Ned, and Margaret Berkley all of Stockton, KS, Alexander Berkley, Stockton, KS, Nadine, Maxine and Porter Earl of Yuma, AZ, Nolan, Emmy, Carson and Jansen Hornecker, Casper, WY.&nbsp; Preston and Parker Bobinmyer, Culbertson, NE and Haizley Bobinmyer, Gordan, NE, and sister Betty Rouselle of McCook, NE.

David Robert "Bob" Bobinmyer (1925-2023)

Charles R. Callihan (Bob) was taken to be with our Lord Jesus on Friday afternoon, August 18, 2023 with his family by his side in North Platte, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. MST on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Oshkosh, Nebraska with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.&nbsp; Military Honors will be rendered at the funeral home.&nbsp; Burial will be held in Hunter, Kansas at a later date.

Memorials in Bob’s name can be made to Adopt-A-Dog in Chappell, Nebraska, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, or to the family for later designation.

Bob was born on November 21, 1937, to Delmas and Georgie (Wheeler) Callihan in Greenup, Kentucky. Bob was the fifth of eight children: Erma, Pauline, Alfreda, Carolyn, Charles, Jenny, James, and Joe.&nbsp;

Bob lived in Ohio most of his youth and enjoyed taking care of his younger siblings and teaching them about everyday life.

When he became a teenager, he joined the Navy to travel the world.&nbsp; He was stationed in Kansas before being transferred to Hawaii where he created flight plans.&nbsp; While in Kanas, he met and married Vera Mae Diers.&nbsp; To this union four children were born: Rebecca Schultz (Les Hazen), Terry Duffield (Tom), Robert Callihan (Denise) and Deb Carlson (late Troy).&nbsp;

During this time Bob owned and operated a milk route and then drove for Rainbow Bread, Bob would bring home a pickup full of bread loaves to feed the chickens and pigs, but the kids would end up having bread wars, hitting each other with the loaves until they would break open and scatter bread all over the driveway.

Bob moved his family to Wellfleet, Nebraska where the kids enjoyed running wild, swimming in the lake and riding horses through the hills.&nbsp; He then drove for Consolidated Freightways, which took him to Chappell, Nebraska where he met Pricilla Kalb whom he was married to for 20 years.&nbsp;

During his time in Chappell, he ran a service station and started a stockcar racetrack where he shined as the announcer.

Bob then moved to Lake McConaughy to pursue a job in construction where he met and married Kathryn Holz.&nbsp; He did many construction jobs at Lake Mac, Ogallala, Chappell, Oshkosh, and the surrounding area.

Bob loved his family immensely and enjoyed telling stories and playing with his grandkids, Will Schultz, Nick Schultz, Lacy Reimer, Sonja Clyncke, TJ Wilkinson, Megan Dehning, Jeremy Callihan, and great grandkids, Paige, Jackson, Harleigh, Sloane, Zach, Ralee, Taylor, Jasmine, Kaylee, Kenley, Ryker, Harper, Brecken.

Bob is preceded in death by his siblings, Erma Wynkoop, Pauline Callihan, Alfreda Ratcliff, Carolyn Johnson, Jenny Brown, Joe Callihan, wife, Vera Callihan, daughter, Rebecca Callihan, grandson, Lucas Schultz and son in law, Troy Carlson.

Charles Robert "Bob" Callihan  (1937-2023)

Donald Russell Jensen, age 76, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on August 18, 2023 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.&nbsp; He was born on January 19, 1947 to Nels and Esther (Philpot) Jensen in Arnold, Nebraska.

Donald was united in marriage to Betty Klauz in 1965.&nbsp; To this union, a son, Daniel Jensen, was born.&nbsp; Don served in the U.S. Army from March 16, 1956 to February 27, 1968.&nbsp; After he returned from the service, he moved to Lexington, Nebraska where he worked at New Holland.&nbsp; Later he moved to Norht Platte, Nebraska where he was employed by Cement Products, Paulson, and then he worked for the City of North Platte where he retired from.

Survivors include his son, Daniel Jensen of Ralston, NE; granddaughter, Sarah Jensen of Ralston, NE; sister, Dorene Smith of North Platte, NE; along with many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Nels and Esther; a sister, Leretta Smith; and a brother, Robert Jensen.

A memorial has been established in his memory. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.&nbsp; Pastor Ryan Alexander will be officiating.&nbsp;

Robert Lee Smith was born on August 11, 1943 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Hugh and Hazel Anderson Smith.&nbsp; Robert stepped out of time into eternity at the age of 79 on July 31, 2023 in North Platte, Nebraska.

Robert grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska and attended school there with 3 brothers and 1 sister.&nbsp; Their home was quite active.&nbsp; Robert's brother, Jim, painted with his dad, Hugh, and Robert joined them together in the painting business.&nbsp; Robert enjoyed fishing with his brothers and being in the outdoors.&nbsp; Robert traveled throughout Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas.&nbsp; Robert was a great conversationalist and was quick to share his experiences in life.&nbsp; Robert later spent much of his life as a butcher for the following grocers:&nbsp; Safe-Way, IGA, Food-Lion, and several others.&nbsp; He returned to painting many&nbsp; years later.&nbsp; He resided in North Platte until his death.

Robert was the last of the 3 brothers and 1 sister, all who preceded him in death:&nbsp; Don Smith, Ralph Smith, Jim Smith and his sister, Shirley Reese/Patterson.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his son, Shawn Smith of Arizona and his daughter, Leann Parish of Winter Haven, Florida.

Robert is survived by his son, Troy Smith of Callaway, Nebraska; a daughter, Crystal Murn of Merna, Nebraska.&nbsp; 

Robert had several nieces and nephews:&nbsp; Gary Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska, Barbara Smith of North Platte, Nebraska, Richard Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, Ronnie Smith (who preceded his uncle in death), Dean Patterson of Wichita, Kansas, Sandi Menzies of Wichita, Kansas, Ruth Dombroski of Louisville, Colorado, Debra Milligan of Keenseburg, Colorado, Ryan Smith of Stockton, Missouri, Steven Smith of Westminster, Colorado, Kelly Smith of Ormond Beach, Florida, Calvin Smith of Cleburne, Texas, and Kevin Smith of Wylie, Texas.

Robert will be laid to rest near his mother, Hazel Anderson Smith, who is interred in the Ogallala Memorial Cemetery in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Robert Lee Smith  (1943-2023)

Steve Albert Mattox of North Platte, NE passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte on August 21, 2023 at the age of 86.

Steve was born to Viola and Mount Mattox, Sr. on April 6, 1937 at Broken Bow, Nebraska, where he grew up.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, Steve enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1955-1957.

Following his discharge, he returned home and ranched.&nbsp; On September 20, 1958, Steve married Stella Niles at the Berean Church in Broken Bow.&nbsp; They started a family and lived in various towns around Nebraska before divorcing after 50 years of marriage.

In 1969, Steve attended Central Nebraska Technical School in Hastings, Nebraska, then Central Law Enforcement in Grand Island, Nebraska.&nbsp; He became a Deputy Sheriff and worked in Arnold, Walbach and Litchfield.&nbsp; After serving in law enforcement for many years, Steve was a maintainer operator for Custer County in Nebraska until 1980 when he moved to North Platte and went to work for Buffalo Bill's Scouts Rest Ranch, from which he retired.

Steve served our country with pride and was a man of faith who attended the Broken Bow Berean Church, Cowboy Church, and Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Jr. "Sonny", Cecil, Jack and Lyle Mattox; sisters Ruby Plambeck and Mable Ellingson; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include Steve's children, Dennis Mattox, Geno (Dianna) Mattox and Gloria Mattox Tyan of North Platte, NE, Viola (Gene Jr.) Petersen of Hershey, NE, Tammy Montag of Kearney, NE, Bonny Mattox and Candy (Luke) Hanson of Ansley, NE, and Sue McFee of Council Bluffs, IA, and their mother, Stella Mattox of North Platte, NE; his sisters Hazel Close of Boise, ID and Judy (Ray) Lunkwitz of North Platte, NE; and sister-in-law Madeline Mattox of Tennessee; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren; and other family.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE with Ned Cooper officiating.&nbsp; The guest book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com, or prior to the services at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, NE, which is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

 </figure>Steve Albert Mattox of North Platte, NE passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte on August 21, 2023 at the age of 86.Steve was born to Viola and Mount Mattox, Sr. on April 6, 1937 at Broken Bow, Nebraska, where he grew up.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, Steve enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1955-1957.Following his discharge, he returned home and ranched.&nbsp; On September 20, 1958, Steve married Stella Niles at the Berean Church in Broken Bow.&nbsp; They started a family and lived in various towns around Nebraska before divorcing after 50 years of marriage.In 1969, Steve attended Central Nebraska Technical School in Hastings, Nebraska, then Central Law Enforcement in Grand Island, Nebraska.&nbsp; He became a Deputy Sheriff and worked in Arnold, Walbach and Litchfield.&nbsp; After serving in law enforcement for many years, Steve was a maintainer operator for Custer County in Nebraska until 1980 when he moved to North Platte and went to work for Buffalo Bill's Scouts Rest Ranch, from which he retired.Steve served our country with pride and was a man of faith who attended the Broken Bow Berean Church, Cowboy Church, and Church of Christ.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Jr. "Sonny", Cecil, Jack and Lyle Mattox; sisters Ruby Plambeck and Mable Ellingson; and two grandchildren.Survivors include Steve's children, Dennis Mattox, Geno (Dianna) Mattox and Gloria Mattox Tyan of North Platte, NE, Viola (Gene Jr.) Petersen of Hershey, NE, Tammy Montag of Kearney, NE, Bonny Mattox and Candy (Luke) Hanson of Ansley, NE, and Sue McFee of Council Bluffs, IA, and their mother, Stella Mattox of North Platte, NE; his sisters Hazel Close of Boise, ID and Judy (Ray) Lunkwitz of North Platte, NE; and sister-in-law Madeline Mattox of Tennessee; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren; and other family.Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE with Ned Cooper officiating.&nbsp; The guest book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com, or prior to the services at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte, NE, which is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Carol Louise Mason, 77, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away August 8, 2023, at Tabitha’s Residential Community House after a battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Chappell, Nebraska, to Alvin and Velma (Johnson) Carlson on August 23, 1945. She grew up in Chappell with her sister, Donna (Carlson) Pebley. She attended Chappell Public Schools and graduated from Chappell High School (class of 1963). After a short stint at Midland Lutheran College, Carol went on to school at Kearney State College (class of 1967), graduating with a degree in Elementary Education.

Carol led a very full life. She loved spending time with her family and at her church. She enjoyed books, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, happy movies, pedicures, and Scooter’s cold brew. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved everything about it, especially wreaths, Starbuck’s peppermint mochas, Christmas music, and raucous family games of Apples to Apples. Carol was passionate about anything her grandsons did and made sure to be there for everything she could. From music recitals, band concerts, and talent shows to football, basketball, soccer, and baseball games, if her grandsons were doing it, she was there cheering them on.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her sister.

She is survived by her loving children, Michelle (Robert) Michl of Lincoln, NE, and Justin (Stacy) Mason of North Platte, NE; grandchildren: Cole (Bailey) Mason; Brady Mason, and Max Reinert; great grandchildren: Jed and Lilah Mason.

Ray Satchell, age 100, of rural Bridgeport went to be with his heavenly father July 27, 2023. Ray was born December 16, 1922 to Harlan and Minnie Satchell at home, delivered by his father, at the homestead where he resided the rest of his life.

Ray raised Hereford cattle, wheat and feed. He began his farm life with a team of horses and what we consider antique tools to raise corn on flat spots through out the hills. It would take him a day of hand picking sixteen acres to fill the wagon with the harvested corn. He could hitch up his team in the dark.

His dad went to the draft board because both his brothers were serving in WWII. He, being the youngest was then delegated to stay home to raise cattle and farm.

He attended country school, then Bridgeport High School graduating in 1940. He served on the fair board, was a longtime Eagles member, enjoyed square dancing, bowling, trips to Alaska, occasional gambling adventures and was a longtime member of the Presbyterian church. He was blessed with good health; running chain saws, fixing fence and climbing windmills into his 90’s.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Lynda (Larry) Sydow, Dotty (John) Erickson, and Diane Contratto; and son Michael (Luann) Satchell; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and many more great-great-grandchildren, many of them carrying on the name Ray; nieces, nephews and special family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, son Duane, daughter Beth, grandson John T, brothers Harry and Chet, and sister Violet.

In keeping with our parents’ wishes, we will have a celebration of life for Ray and Geri together on September 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall at the Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, Nebraska. Private graveside services will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dalton Volunteer Fire and Rescue, First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, or donors’ choice.

Elsie Marie (Knispel) Struempler of Broken Bow, formerly of Oconto, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Brookestone View in Broken Bow at the age of 98. She was born August 23, 1924 to William and Clara (Knoop) Knispel in a sod house on a farm west of Eddyville, Nebraska. Elsie married Herbert Struempler on January 20, 1948 at the Christ Lutheran Church southwest of Oconto.&nbsp;

Together the couple farmed and ranched west of Oconto. They traveled on many bus trips in their retirement. Elsie was active in the Redfern Social Club, and participated in a women’s bowling league for years. She was always up for a card game. Elsie had many talents that included crafting, sewing and cake decorating. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. She had great fun “spooking” her great grandkids and other unsuspecting victims. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herb; siblings, Alfred and Arlene; son in law, Lloyd Eggleston.

At a certain moment a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped.

When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. &nbsp;And don't call this my deathbed. &nbsp;Let it be called the Bed of Life, and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.

Give my sight to a man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman. &nbsp;Give my heart to a person whose own heart has pain.

Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play. &nbsp;Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week.

Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body, and find a way to make a crippled child walk. &nbsp;Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that someday a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her windows.

Cremate me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow. &nbsp;If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses and all my prejudice against my fellow man. &nbsp;Give my sins to the devil. &nbsp;Give my soul to God. &nbsp;

Robert L. “Bob” Hoing, 63, of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Bob was born on May 2, 1960 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Earl Leroy and Janice Marie (Koester) Hoing. Bob attended public schools in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Northwest with the class of 1979. He then went on to further his education at ITC Tech where he earned his certification as a Mechanic. Bob moved to Overton, Nebraska in 2005.

Bob met the love of his life three years ago, Dianne Redwing and was united in marriage on July 28, 2023. They made their home in Overton.

Bob loved racing and being part of the IMCA family. He drove the O9H Stock Car and made many lifelong friends throughout the years in the sport. Bob and Dianne enjoyed traveling and going on long road trips. Attending AA meetings and being a sponsor was also very important to Bob. He was always willing to be a helping hand and had a heart of gold.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne of Overton; his mother, Janice Hoing of Surprise, Arizona; his children, Tiffany (Brad) Brundage of Avondale, Arizona, Crystal (Adam) Troiano of Avondale, Arizona, Amanda (Anthony) Hoing of Gilbert, Arizona and Daniel Hoing of Gilbert, Arizona; &nbsp;two brothers, Greg (Debra) Hoing of Sun City West, Arizona and Steve (Teresa “Teri”) Hoing of Surprise, Arizona; seven grandchildren; his uncle, Bruce Koester; stepchildren, Staci Redwing of David City, Corie (Barb) Redwing of Fremont, Dale (Danae) Mizner II of Geneva, Trinity Mizner of Wahoo, Colton (Brianna Mewes) Mizner of Geneva and Shana (Jim Kubik) Mizner of Prague; his fur buddy, Trixie; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

David Lee Gibson (1958-2023)

Bentley Charles Hinrichs, age 5, gained his angel wings surrounded with love at his home on August 15th, 2023.

He was born on April 5th, 2018, in North Platte, Nebraska to Christopher and Tonya Hinrichs to complete the family of four joining his big sister, Briawna.

Bentley enjoyed life and lit up any room with his handsome, blue eyes (and never-ending long eyelashes), smile and giggles. He blessed his family with an amazing healthcare team and many adventures, including a cross country trip to California for his first ever intensive therapy session in Los Angeles. Bentley became famous through his intensive therapy sessions at Orange County in Iowa and at Munroe-Meyer Institute in Omaha.

He taught everyone he met a whole new understanding of patience and resilience. His progress in life was always steady and slow. His big sister, Briawna, was the biggest and loudest cheerleader when he accomplished a new skill. No matter how hard the challenge, Bentley would always fight and overcome his disabilities to obtain the goal.

Bentley loved everything and anything about the outdoors, especially swimming!

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary Hinrichs and great-grandparents, Maxine and Charles Kelley.

Survivors include his parents, Chris and Tonya Hinrichs; the BEST big sister EVER, Briawna; his grandparents, Doug and Theresa Kelley of North Platte, NE, Maggie House of Lewellen, NE; his great-grandmothers, Darlene Haines of North Platte, NE and LeeAnn Hinrichs of Brule, NE; his aunts and uncles, Jarret (Shanna) Hinrichs of Rowlett, TX, Tamara (Nolan) Clouse and Timothy (Mary Beth) Kelley, all of North Platte, NE, his North Platte cousins, Keeghan, Braeden, Gatlyn and Huxlee; and numerous healthcare providers that became family during Bentley’s PICU roller coaster rides and his therapy sessions!

 </figure>Bentley Charles Hinrichs, age 5, gained his angel wings surrounded with love at his home on August 15th, 2023.He was born on April 5th, 2018, in North Platte, Nebraska to Christopher and Tonya Hinrichs to complete the family of four joining his big sister, Briawna.Bentley enjoyed life and lit up any room with his handsome, blue eyes (and never-ending long eyelashes), smile and giggles. He blessed his family with an amazing healthcare team and many adventures, including a cross country trip to California for his first ever intensive therapy session in Los Angeles. Bentley became famous through his intensive therapy sessions at Orange County in Iowa and at Munroe-Meyer Institute in Omaha.He taught everyone he met a whole new understanding of patience and resilience. His progress in life was always steady and slow. His big sister, Briawna, was the biggest and loudest cheerleader when he accomplished a new skill. Bentley Charles Hinrichs  (2018-2023)

Cindy Callahan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 10, 2023, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.

She was born on June 17, 1960, in Omaha, Nebraska to Jens and Moira (Rushforth) Skovbo. She graduated from Ansley High School with the class of 1979. On January 12, 1980, Cindy married the love of her life, Rory Callahan in Ansley, Nebraska. The family traveled to various locations in Colorado before settling in Overton, Nebraska in 1990. Cindy spent many years working with IBP, which later became Tyson Foods. She transitioned to Walmart, before ultimately choosing to become a devoted stay-at-home mom. Cindy cherished spending time with her family and creating beautiful memories that will be treasured forever. Some of her most joyful moments were spent alongside her grandchildren. Their laughter filled the air whenever they were together. Whether it was camping trips or engaging in playful sessions of cards, Cindy's zest for life truly shone through.&nbsp;Cindy loved spending countless hours coloring on her iPad. The vivid colors and intricate designs brought her peace and happiness.&nbsp;Another source of immense joy for Cindy was her furry companion, Oreo. Her adorable puppy brought happiness into her life and provided unconditional love until the very end. Left to cherish wonderful memories are Cindy's loving husband, Rory Callahan of Overton, Nebraska; children, Josh (Sarah) Callahan of Omaha, Laurie (Brandon) Buhlke of Grand Island, JD (Madison) Callahan of Tampa, Florida, and Shannon (Mitchell) Bidwell of Cozad, Nebraska; her adored grandchildren Stella and Camilla Callahan, Braelyn Buhlke, Eliana and Oliver Callahan; and her grandpup Dexter;&nbsp;siblings Randy (Minnie) Skovbo of Texas and Sharon Straight of Lincoln, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her father-in-law, Jerome Callahan, her in-laws Betty and Moses Ceballos, and her nephew Clinton Straight. Although the pain of their absence lingers, Cindy's legacy will always be a reminder of the love they shared.

Visitation with be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska.

Cindy Callahan (1960-2023)

Virginia Mae Frates, age 95, of Paxton, Nebraska died Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Anschutz University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.

Virginia, was born on October 14, 1927, in Keith County, Nebraska to Lucy Virginia Williams Seeley and Walter Austin Seeley.&nbsp; She had one older brother, Oriss, who was born in 1924.&nbsp; Virginia and her family homesteaded near Theis Bay on her aunt Anna’s farm.&nbsp; The family lived there until 1931 when they moved to the Fairchild Place and in 1933, they moved to the George Williams ranch 20 miles north of Lewellen, Nebraska.&nbsp; This ranch was owned by Lucy’s father.

&nbsp;Virginia attended Country school until eighth grade and then moved to Oshkosh, Nebraska to attend high school, boarding with a family friend.&nbsp; She was an active high schooler participating as a cheerleader, band majorette, singing in the choir, and solo competitions.&nbsp; She aspired to have a singing career and was spotted by a talent scout at a competition who offered her a singing contract but her father, Walter, vetoed the idea.

&nbsp;Virginia’s older brother, Oriss George Seeley, was drafted into the Army during World War II in roughly 1945 and was killed, shortly after completing his training while fighting in the Philippines and awarded the Purple Heart.&nbsp; This was a terrible loss for Virginia as she and Oriss were the best of friends and was a devastating loss to her parents.

&nbsp;She graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1945 and attended two sessions of summer school to gain her normal schoolteacher training in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; Her first teaching job was at a country school between Oshkosh and Chappell in Nebraska, where she taught kindergarten through eighth grades for one year.&nbsp; Her next teaching position was at Brule, Nebraska teaching third through fifth grades for two years.&nbsp; This is where she met the love of her life, Gerald Ray Frates.

Virginia and Gerald’s grandmother had made friends at the local restaurant, and one evening Grandma Frates invited Virginia to the town basketball game.&nbsp; That night Gerald made a spectacular save of the ball and landed in Virginia’s lap.&nbsp; They started dating and two years later they were married on August 26, 1948, at the Brule Congregational Church. Virginia and Gerald welcomed their first daughter, Cheri Lea, on December 7, 1950.&nbsp; Virginia continued to substitute teach at the Brule school for 12 years.

In 1959 Virginia, Gerald, and Cheri moved to the Seeley ranch and enjoy the life of family ranching and then moved to Paxton, Nebraska in May 1964.&nbsp; On January 22, 1964, Virginia and Gerald welcomed the birth of their second daughter, Beverly Ann.&nbsp; Virginia and Gerald farmed, raised cattle, and continued managing the Seeley ranch until they sold it in 2007.&nbsp; From 1992 to 1994, Virginia worked for Ogallala Counseling, Beverly’s business, as an office manager.&nbsp; After being a housewife and right arm to Gerald all these years Virginia really enjoyed this new phase in her life.&nbsp; Over the years Virginia was a brownie leader, sang soprano solos for various celebrations and occasions, and was in the garden club, auxiliary club, Methodist women’s group, and extension club.&nbsp; She was an avid canner and gardener for years.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed weekly bridge club and Bible study for years.&nbsp; She has been a member of the Methodist Church for over 60 years in Paxton.&nbsp; Virginia was an amazing lady, full of compassion, patience, grace, and humor.&nbsp; Strong in her spirit and determined, she lived a wonderful full life.&nbsp; In the final 16 years of her life, she became a grandmother to two beautiful grandchildren, Savanna KaiDee and Harper Faith who shared hours of joy and laughter with her.&nbsp; Virginia attended almost every event her children and grandchildren were in.&nbsp; Even though her voice became weak in her final year, she still would clap and commend her girls on their performances.

Virginia lived independently on the farm until a week before her passing and enjoyed all the love and care her son-in-law, Chuck Tapia, dedicated to keeping her home and farm immaculately groomed.

Virginia will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Frates-McMahon; granddaughters, Savanna and Harper McMahon of Paxton, Nebraska, and son-in-law, Chuck Tapia, of Lakewood, Colorado;&nbsp; three nephews, Stan and the late Jan Spencer of Peru, Indiana; Randy and Leslie Spencer of Pheonix, Arizona and Kelly and KeliAn Frates of Dalhart, Texas; and numerous grand nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; daughter Cheri; parents Walter and Lucy Seeley; brother Oris Seeley; in-laws Ray and Lila Frates; and one nephew Tim Frates.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. MST amd held at The Paxton United Methodist Church with Pastors Mark Baldwin of The Paxton United Methodist Church and Michael Loy of The Faith Global Methodist Church of Ogallala.

Visitation will be Friday, August 18th,2023 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 p.m. MST at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established in Virginia’s memory for the Nebraska Children’s Home Society in Omaha, Nebraska.

Internment will be in the Paxton Cemetery.

Virginia Mae (Seeley) Frates  (1927-2023)

Funeral Services for Chad Eugene Lurz will be held August 19, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Ainsworth, NE with a luncheon to follow. He will be buried at a later time at the Richland Harmony Cemetery in Valentine, NE. 

Chad passed away October 20, 2022, in Omaha, NE after a brief battle with cancer.&nbsp; Chad Eugene Lurz was born April 26, 1967 in Lexington, NE to James Albert Lurz and Gladyce (Thornton) Lurz. They lived in several different small towns but settled in Ainsworth, Ne and called it their hometown. Chad attended high school there and graduated with the Class of 1985 at the Ainsworth High School. He was an active FFA member and enjoyed range judging.

Chad worked several jobs for farmers and ranchers in the area but a severe injury eventually determined his need for an inside job so he began working in his family's restaurant, The Depot, and he worked there for the final 15 years of his employment career. Chad enjoyed the company of the community and everyone that came into the restaurant. The customers and employees were more like family to Chad. He always made sure you got fed and treated right.

Chad helped maintain the fountain at the Ainsworth City Park for over 20 years since it was redone and converted back from a flower planter into a fountain. This brought a lot of compliments to the town. Its been a beautiful area now at the park for tourists and community members. He spent many hours in the summer filling, repairing and cleaning the fountain but he was very proud of his work and the beauty of it when it was done.

Chad spent hours fishing with his family and friends. There was never a stranger when it came to fishing. Everybody was welcome to come fishing with him. He just didn’t always show you his favorite or secret fishing holes with the best fishing. Whether it was fishing in the summer or ice fishing it just didn’t matter. He just loved to fish. It resulted in hours of cleaning fish afterwards but it didn’t matter to him. He would spend time teaching friends and his nieces and nephews how to filet a fish too.

Chad got interested in hobbies like woodworking and smoking meat as he got older. He made benches and different things out of wood for friends and family. He made benches that had glow in the dark designs on them for fund raising events and for families that had lost family members. He made other things to but he’s mostly known for those benches. The impact his gifts made to a grieving family was overwhelmingly loving at the time of their loss. He was such a loving and caring person. He began making bacon and if you were someone that was lucky enough to have had some of his bacon, you will definitely never find the same in a grocery store! His was awesome!

Chad was an avid arrow head collector. He spent weekends with his nephews and nieces taking them hunting for them. They collected arrowheads and other artifacts over the years. He taught the kids to use bow and arrows and how to shoot guns safely. He was an avid part of their growing up.

He is survived by his sister, Laura (Robert) Cordes of Hettinger, ND; James (Barbara) Lurz of St Paul, NE, and Michael Lurz of Ainsworth, NE; along with nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Gladyce (Thornton) Lurz of Ainsworth, NE; and grandparents Henry and Frances (Ward) Lurz and Virgil and Ruth (Brown) Thornton.

Nancy R. Vasquez, age 77, of Sutherland, NE passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at her daughter Angie’s home in North Platte, NE.

Nancy was born on May 31, 1946 in Ogallala, NE, the daughter of William and Frances (Hackbarth) Clifton. She grew up in the Ogallala area and attended grade school there. She married Catalino Vasquez in 1972 in Colorado.

Nancy worked as the director of the Senior Center in Sutherland, NE for several years. She loved listening to Elvis Presley music, arts and crafts, and decorating for the holidays. She enjoyed spending time outside in the summer gardening, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Nancy was always willing to help others and was a two-time survivor of breast cancer.

Those left to cherish Nancy’s memory are her husband of 51 years, Catalino; daughter, Angie Lalanne of North Platte, NE; sons, Larry Vasquez of Stapleton, NE, and Rodney (Suzy) Vasquez of Washington; brother, Robert (Jean) Raney of Overton, NE; and 21 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, David Joseph Vasquez; son-in-law, Chuck Lalanne; daughter-in-law, Cindy Vasquez; and sisters, Karen Richards and Donna Waters.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, NE with Pastor Teresa Morland officiating. The memorial book will be available to sign on Monday, August 21st from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.

Berdine A. Norlander, age 87, of Booneville, MS passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at her home. 

Funeral services are set for Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 3 pm at Magnolia Funeral Home - East in Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 1pm-3pm at Magnolia Funeral Home -East. 

Following services in Mississippi, Mrs. Norlander will be taken to Maywood, Nebraska for interment in Maywood Cemetery. 

She was born April 21, 1936 in Imperial, Nebraska to the late Glen Carr and Velma Bussard Carr. Berdine was a homemaker and of the Christian faith. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed painting, quilting, crocheting, watching her hummingbirds and working in her flower garden. Berdine was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class at Tate Baptist Church where she made lots of friends and loved going to all their activities. She also attended Church of the Crossroads with her daughter.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish Mrs. Norlander's memories include her daughter, Judy Hewson Sims; sons, Bruce Hewson (Marina); Alan Hewson and Keven Scott Hewson; stepdaughters, Diane Soli (George) and Nancy Smith (Danny); stepson, Steve Norlander (Laurie); 16 grandchildren; 20+ great grandchildren; brother, Virgil Carr; sisters, Naomi Pinger, Ruth Ann Shelton (Jack) and Audrey Marten (Les); other relatives and a host of friends.&nbsp;

Delores A. Moore  (1935-2023)

John Pierce Gamet, age 88, of Ogallala, NE passed away on August 12, 2023, at his home in Ogallala.

John was born on April 20, 1935, in Kankakee, Illinois, to Dr. Joseph H. Gamet and Margaret Elizabeth Gamet. John's youth was marked by numerous moves to Army Air Force bases during WWII, where his father served in military hospitals. At the war's end, he moved with his family to Evanston, Illinois, and later to Janesville, Wisconsin, settling in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1949.

John graduated from Price High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1953. He started college at Iowa State, then moved to Greeley, Colorado where he met his future wife, Kay Franken. They graduated together from the University of Northern Colorado in 1959.

John and Kay were married in St. Luke's Catholic Church in 1959, settling in Ogallala, NE where he worked for Goodall Electric, later TRW. In 1983, TRW transferred John to Libertyville, Illinois. When TRW restructured, John found a new passion working as an industrial rehabilitation specialist at Lake Forest Hospital until his retirement. John and his wife returned to Keith County in 1999, purchasing a farm and establishing a vineyard with sons Stephen and Patrick, eventually opening a winery in Paxton.

John was devoted to his community, especially to those with developmental and physical challenges. He served on various boards and was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Quad-County Support Services in 1973. His community involvement extended to the Ogallala Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, Planning Commission, Regional Arts Council, Hospital Board, Yacht Club, and St. Luke's Knight's of Columbus, becoming a 4th Degree Knight. He actively participated in faith study groups within his church.

John's love for nature, birds, and sunsets was well known. He crafted stained glass windows, many displayed in buildings around the community. He had a deep affection for his children, grandchildren, faith, and church. John's legacy of community service, love for family, craftsmanship, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Joseph H. and Margaret Gamet; sisters, Joanne Olshan and Mary Louise Loerwald.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kay, of Ogallala, NE; three children, Stephen, Paige, and Patrick Gamet; sister, Betsy Rhomberg; five grandchildren, Mikayla Deines, Meredith Gamet, Leanne Miller, Jack and Katherine Harich.

Chris Michael Roy "C. Roy", age 60, of Lincoln, NE passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, NE from MDS (a form of Leukemia).

Chris was born on July 8, 1963 and went to high school at North Platte High in North Platte, NE.&nbsp; He was born to Frank Roy and Annette Chavis, but Bob Chavis helped to raise him and was his dad for most of his life.&nbsp; C. Roy was an avid North Platte High School Bulldog Football fan.&nbsp; C. Roy worked at Nusource Holdings, Inc as a Field Service Technician.&nbsp; He had started a career with Nebraska Cellular in 1991 where he met many life-long friends, some he called his daughters.&nbsp; He continued with the merged companies for over 20 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

C. Roy loved music, playing guitars and repairing and restoring musical instruments, radios and speakers.&nbsp; He restored many antiques, especially with a connection back to his home or where he grew up.&nbsp; Anyone who met C. Roy was amazed by his intelligence and ability to fix anything.&nbsp; His interests expanded across many different trades, yet there was nothing he couldn't figure out and master.

Those left to cherish C.
