&nbsp; Our Mom, Donna Faye (Yocum) Dircksen, departed her earthly life May 2, 2023.&nbsp; She was 90 years old.&nbsp; Donna was born in Western Loup County, NE, on her grandparent's farm on April 10, 1933, to Anna Dell (Roblyer) Yocum and Gordon LeRoy Yocum, Sr. Despite growing up during the Great Depression, her childhood was filled with joy and fun, as well as hard work on the farm. Her family consisted of three older siblings (she considered them "bossy"), as well as a beloved younger sister, Ann.&nbsp; She had many cousins in the neighborhood, and they visited and got together as much as possible.&nbsp;&nbsp; There were baseball games, quilting bees, and reunions.&nbsp; Mom talked about riding "Charlie Horse" to school when her brother would let her. One of her jobs was to carry corn cobs to the pigs; another was to milk the cows, which she did as little as possible.&nbsp; She also drove the tractor to plant corn. When Donna was young and foolish, she married a soldier, George Eugene Leibert, from Sargent, NE, who then was shipped overseas, and fought in the Korean Conflict.&nbsp; Donna gave birth to their daughter, Georgia Marie, while George was in Korea.&nbsp; They divorced shortly after George returned from Korea.&nbsp; Little was known of PTSD back then. At that time Donna attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and Kearney State College; she received a teaching certificate, which was awarded at that time without a degree. She started teaching in rural schools in Western Nebraska.&nbsp; She did finally receive her BA from Kearney State College about twenty years later. Since Donna's parents were farming on rented farms and making no money (Donna's teaching salary was supporting the family), they had a farm auction, and moved to North Platte, where Donna met a charming, handsome young man when he fell over her at the skating rink (perhaps she fell over him).&nbsp; Six weeks later, on March 15, 1956, Donna married Lawrence Gulvin Dircksen in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte. Perhaps the best part of Lawrence and Donna's marriage was that Lawrence had three children from a previous marriage, Debbie, Mike, and Steve. Donna and Lawrence then had a large, busy family, to which they later added Patty and LaDonna.&nbsp; Mom taught school while Lawrence worked for the UPRR, as well as other jobs during frequent layoffs. Donna and Lawrence raised their children to be Christians by being an example for them, as well as attending church and sending them to Sunday School.&nbsp;&nbsp; Donna at various times taught Sunday School and Confirmation. Donna and Lawrence were also Luther League (youth group) sponsors. Mom was very active and involved in her children's other activities. She was a cub scout den mother, PTA member, the girls' 4-H leader, and softball coach (Donna taught us how to slide into base.&nbsp; I thought she was too old to be doing such things, but realized later she was about 29 years old at that time).&nbsp;&nbsp; She was our loving peacemaker (we were a handful), and cheerleader.&nbsp; Our parents built a cabin at Lake Maloney; Mom pulled us while we water skied as well as skiing a few times herself.&nbsp; She insisted on the girls (not the boys) doing about twenty laps between docks, which she swam as well. Mom and Dad enjoyed dancing, eating out, camping, lake time, looking after the kids (we turned out OK I guess), and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; When Donna was eighty years old, she was able to enjoy a wonderful Mediterranean Cruise with family members; she tramped across Rome for miles. Donna also did ceramics and was an expert quilter; she hand quilted a quilt for everyone of her children and grandchildren. Up until a week before her death, she was working on a quilt for Church (Lutheran World Relief). Mom was preceded into heaven by her loving husband of 56 years, Lawrence, our sweet sister, Patty Hupfer,&nbsp; beautiful daughter-in-law, Pamela (Diers) Dircksen; her parents; her grandparents, Edward and Ida (Burger) Yocum, and Jacob Henry, Jr., and Pearl (Moninger) Roblyer; In-laws, Fred and Anna (Thompson) Dircksen, siblings Ava Loree Small and husband, Herbert Small, Gertrude Coleman and husband, Elton Coleman, and Gordon LeRoy, Jr., and wife Lola (Green) Yocum.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was also predeceased by several of Lawrence's siblings. Donna is survived by her loving children, Mike Dircksen and Steve Dircksen (Roberta), of Arizona, Deb (Tom) Erickson and Georgia (Larry) Nelms, of North Platte, LaDonna (Terry) Mead, of Norfolk, NE, and son-in-law, Walter Joe of North Platte.&nbsp; She further survived by her beloved younger sister, Ann (Thomas "Mike") McEvoy, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. We take comfort in knowing Mom is now in heaven with Dad and Patty and other loved ones.&nbsp; Rest in peace, Mom, knowing your work is finished on earth. Celebration of Mom's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 West 5th Street, North Platte. Donna Dircksen (1933-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Roger Dean Jones was born in Woodruff, Kansas, January 11, 1930 to parents, Reverend Harrison Morton Jones and Ruby (Achen) Jones.&nbsp; The family lived in Imperial, NE., after Woodruff, Kansas and then Oconto, NE., before moving to Cambridge, NE in 1944. &nbsp;Roger met Dorothy Anne Lockenour in Cambridge and they were married June 12, 1951 in her parents' home, Monte and Jeanie Lockenour, which at that time was the Lockenour Mortuary.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Roger was called by the United States Army to serve his country in November 1951. He came through Cambridge for a visit in May of 1952 before being shipped to Okinawa, Japan where he did work with the United States Army Signal Corp. He returned to Cambridge in October of 1953.&nbsp; At that time, he resumed his job at the Twin Valley Public Power District, where he had started working in May of 1948.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Roger worked 30 years outside repairing lines and 15 years in the office ordering supplies. He retired January 31, 1995, but was called back to help supervise the rebuilding of electric lines after the ice storm of 2007.&nbsp; During his retirement he spent many hours scanning pictures for family and friends and transferring them to flash drives.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Roger is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in May 2010, his parents, two sisters and two nephews.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Neil) Carlson of Axtell, NE; his son, Keith (Christine) Jones of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren:&nbsp; Brandon (Arielle) Carlson of Maryland, Dustin (Melissa) Carlson of Malvern, Iowa, Steven (Christine) Carlson of Lincoln, NE., Cayle (David) Burbach of Avoca, NE., Kyle (Olivia) Jones of Wisconsin; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margie Petersen and several nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The casket will not be open, but family has asked that friends may sign a book on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary from noon to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 10: 30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Cambridge with Rev. Roger Dean Jones (1930-2023)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Dorothy Louise Lindholm Gast, age 94, was born August 10, 1928, in Arnold, Nebraska, to Roy Joseph and Edythe Myrtle (Atkins) Lindholm. She passed away April 27, 2023, in Broken Bow, Nebraska.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;“Dottie,” as she was affectionately known, spent her early childhood with her family; being raised on her paternal grandparents’, Walter and Sophia Lindholm’s, farm in Mill’s Valley. The family then spent many years with her maternal grandparents, Tillman (Tim) and Bertha Atkins, east of Arnold.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Upon graduating from Arnold High School in 1946, Dot moved to Denver, Colorado, and graduated from the Central Business College in 1947. She married Orvel Gast, and prior to starting a family, worked at Poindexter Electric as the credit manager until 1955. She was also employed at Mount Airy Hospital from 1961 to 1963. She was a member of Burns United Methodist Church in Aurora, Colorado.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Dot returned to Arnold in 1976, opening the fabric store The Stitching Post.&nbsp;&nbsp;Later, she and O’Dean Beeken partnered in purchasing Pool’s Department Store. Mrs. Beeken retired soon after and Dot continued the business until her retirement.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Dot’s favorite childhood memories were going fishing with her father, traveling with her sister to visit their Aunt Esther Miller and Uncle George Lindholm, both of Elmwood, her Uncle Alec Lindholm’s family in Oconto, and having hot chocolate with her Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Walter Anderson. She treasured spending time with her Aunt Susie Halstead, Aunt Jakie Babcock, and Uncle Al Atkins.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Dot was a successful businessperson, avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, and loved sharing her gardening skills.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She spent her last years being cared for by the kind staff at Brookstone View in Broken Bow, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Her parents and younger brother, Douglas Lindholm, predeceased her.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Dot is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) R Powell, of Lexington, South Carolina; son, Dr. Kim G. Gast of St Cloud, Minnesota; sister, Janice (Don) Life of York, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

Dottie Gast (1928-2023)

Raymond Hanson age 80 of Thedford, NE passed away April 18, 2023, at the Jennie M Melham Memorial Center in Broken Bow, NE.

Raymond was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota. His school years were spent at the Hot Springs grammar school and Hot Spring high school. After high school he married Pat Heirmier. To this union Cindy and Brenda were born.&nbsp; Raymond learned to operate heavy equipment from his dad and uncle. He was well known around the Fall River area building dams and other dirt work for the Conservation Service. Ray also did a short time in California for the Forest Service doing fire control. In 1970 he married Margaret in California and moved back to SD.&nbsp; He and his dad partnered up and did heavy equipment in the Tri-State area.&nbsp; To this union Randy Paul was born Feb 16 ,1972 and passed away on the 17th. In February 1974 Rhonda (Kursave) was born.

Survivors include Rhonda Kursave, James Alexander, Juliet Brafford, John Alexander, sister Patricia (Steve) Koller,&nbsp;Cindy and Brenda and many nieces and nephews and grandkids.

Preceding him in death are his son Randy, his dad Melvin Hanson, his mom Jessie Lookabill, sister JoAnn Barber and sister Helen.

Memorial services will be Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the United Church of Christ in Thedford, NE with Pastor Les Parmenter officiating. Inurnment will be in Hot Springs, SD at a later date. His school years were spent at the Hot Springs grammar school and Hot Spring high school. After high school he married Pat Heirmier. To this union Cindy and Brenda were born.&nbsp; Raymond learned to operate heavy equipment from his dad and uncle. He was well known around the Fall River area building dams and other dirt work for the Conservation Service. Ray also did a short time in California for the Forest Service doing fire control. In 1970 he married Margaret in California and moved back to SD.&nbsp; He and his dad partnered up and did heavy equipment in the Tri-State area.&nbsp; To this union Randy Paul was born Feb 16 ,1972 and passed away on the 17th. In February 1974 Rhonda (Kursave) was born.Survivors include Rhonda Kursave, James Alexander, Juliet Brafford, John Alexander, sister Patricia (Steve) Koller,&nbsp;Cindy and Brenda and many nieces and nephews and grandkids.Preceding him in death are his son Randy, his dad Melvin Hanson, his mom Jessie Lookabill, sister JoAnn Barber and sister Helen.Memorial services will be Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the United Church of Christ in Thedford, NE with Pastor Les Parmenter officiating. Don Hardy, son of Bert and Eva Hardy, was born in Mullen, Nebraska, on January 4, 1941.

Don attended rural schools in the Thedford area.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don attended high school in Anselmo and Thedford and graduated from Thomas County High School in 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;Following graduation he attended Grand Island School of Business.&nbsp;&nbsp;Following this schooling he worked in Grand Island until he was drafted into the United States Army.

Upon his honorable discharge from the army, he worked for Lewis Brothers in Anselmo until he took a job at the Anselmo Elevator where he worked for twenty years.&nbsp;

Don married Sandra Smets in 1968. Don and Sandra were blessed with two children, H.J. and Allie.&nbsp;

In 1988, Don became a grain inspector for the state of Nebraska—a job he held for 23 years.

Don loved Nebraska Football, and Anselmo-Merna activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a great community supporter. He served on the town board for several years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Don was so proud of the Veterans Wall in Anselmo.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don was especially proud of his military years of service, which included receiving a Quilt of Valor on June 30, 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;He could be found every summer working in his garden, proudly displaying his massive pepper assortment and many rows of tomatoes.&nbsp;&nbsp;During the fall, Don would spend hours canning some of his favorite recipes.&nbsp;&nbsp;You always knew how much he loved you when he gifted you with some of his canned goods, especially his salsa.

Every Christmas Don lit up Anselmo with his beautiful Christmas lights and decorations.&nbsp;&nbsp;He always said his favorite part of decorating for Christmas was seeing the little children’s smiling faces.

Another love of Don’s was 4-H.&nbsp;&nbsp;After his two children were finished with 4-H, he was so happy to share his passion with his grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;After spending the summer coaching his grandchildren, he was always found standing at the gate waiting to congratulate them as they walked out of the show ring.

Don was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.&nbsp;&nbsp;He never put himself first—always looking out for the other person.&nbsp;&nbsp;Animals were a true love of his.&nbsp;&nbsp;He named all of his cows and could tell you a story about each one, but his true love was his faithful reclining napper, Muffy.&nbsp;

Don was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Wayne, Albert, and Frank, and a sister, Minnie Mary Hamilton.&nbsp;

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sandra Hardy, son HJ Hardy and wife Jennifer of Gretna,&nbsp;&nbsp;Nebraska, and&nbsp;&nbsp;daughter Allie Smith and husband Jayme of Brady, Nebraska,&nbsp;&nbsp;granddaughter Lauryn Hardy, grandsons Zachary Smith and Andrew Hardy, sister Reta Teahon of Halsey, Nebraska, and brother Bill Hardy and wife Diann of York, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Don Hardy (1941-2023)

Lynden L. Griese, age 71, of Cozad, NE passed away in Kearney, NE at Good Samaritan Hospital on April 29, 2023. He was born in Hoven, South Dakota on October 1, 1951 to LeRoy and Theresa Griese. They later move to Maxwell, NE and lived on the Pawnee Springs Ranch. In high school he played football, basketball and track. He graduated with the class of 1969.

&nbsp;Lynden married Carolyn Bartruff on February 14, 1975 at the Eustis United Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with two children: Robert LeRoy and Tara Lynn. Lynden went on to work at Hunts Sand and Gravel and Bellamy Grain. He then owned his own truck and later worked for Nebraska Salt and Grain until his retirement. Lynden was the Past Exalted Ruler and longtime member at the Cozad Elks Lodge #2250. He was an avid bowler, played in men’s basketball and slow pitch softball leagues, and enjoyed playing in 3 v. 3 basketball tournaments.

&nbsp;He was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church. Lynden’s most treasured times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, LeRoy and Theresa Griese; his brother, Karl Griese; his sister, Jolene Griese; his father-in-law, Robert Bartruff; his brother-in-law, Reimund Loshonkohl; and a great niece, Haven Wang. Lynden is survived by a son, Bobby (Lea) Griese of Chadron; a daughter, Tara (Rock) Armagost of Cozad; a sister, Linda Twidwell of Rifle, Co; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Bartruff of Eustis; sister-in-laws Jean Loshonkohl of Eustis, Mari (Doug) Banzhaf of Eustis, Janell (Dave) Wetovick of Eustis; grandchildren, Rowen, Jove and Reid Griese, and Ryder and Ryker Armagost; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Lynden L. Griese (1951-2023)

Judith Ann (Raymond) Miller of Cozad, passed away April 26, 2023, at Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living at the age of 87. Judy was born January 27, 1936, in Cozad, to her parents: Robert and Margaret Raymond.

Judy spent her childhood on a farm, walking to her country schoolhouse, feeding the lambs her dad raised and sold. Her favorite subject in school was history and she graduated in 1954 from Cozad High School. Judy completed two years of college at UNL and was always wistful she wasn’t able to finish college. Her Dad called her home to help with the care of her mother, who was often ill.

Judy married Rich Miller in 1956. They welcomed three tow-headed little girls to their family: Anne, Sally, and Julie. Judy relished motherhood and creating&nbsp;a&nbsp;cozy love-filled home on E.13th Street. The family backyard and neighborhood provided countless joys of squealing children and families who remained lifelong treasures. Her hobbies included playing bridge in a few clubs, gardening, and especially sewing everything from Easter dresses for the girls to exquisite quilts. She was active in American Lutheran Church, P.E.O., Cozad Library Board and beloved Quilting Trips to New England, Nova Scotia and Chicago.

In 1986 their world was rocked by the tragic death of their youngest daughter, Julie. She and Rich healed their hearts by spending time with their grandchildren and by welcoming Patti Silva into their family as their exchange student daughter. Judy taught herself French hand sewing and created an assortment of confectionary-colored dresses for her granddaughters. She and Rich loved teaching their grandsons to play golf. In 1992, they purchased a winter home in St. George, Utah. There they met new treasured friends, golfed and enjoyed the break from the cold Nebraska winters.

Rich passed in 1997, and in 2010 Judy moved to Omaha. She loved city life: shopping, dining out with her family and friends! She adored babysitting for her great grandchildren and spending special dinners and myriad activities with Anne and her family. There she met her dear friends Andrew Rouillard, Brent Thomsen, and Zahraa Meirza. She also loved traveling out to Colorado to visit Sally at her mountain home.

What gave Judy more joy than anything was championing her grandchildren and greats.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nick (Nickie) Konen, children: Charlie and Jude; Aaron (Ely)Konen, children: Oliver, Estella and Elias; Michaela Konen; Katie Knudsen, children: Gabrielle, Kyrie; John (Sara) Knudsen, children: Andi, Eva; Birgitte (Carl) Hays, children: Eli, Ida, Ian and Mary (Jules) Knudsen Dudoit, children: Pono, Malia, Tyson. She loved their spouses as her ‘other grands’.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rich; daughter, Julie; great-grandson, Kai and brother, Bob Raymond.

Judy is survived by her children, Anne Konen, of Omaha, Sally Knudsen of Denver, her son-in-love, Mogens Knudsen; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, her sister, Ellen Boroff, and many nieces and nephews and so many wonderful friends.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on June 4, 2023 beginning with a graveside ceremony at Cozad Cemetery at 1:00 pm, and a party at Mac’s Creek Winery from 2-4:00. Judy Miller (1936-2023)

William N. “Bill” Underwood Jr., 75, of Elwood, Nebraska passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Elwood Care Center.

He was born on April 5, 1948, to William and Doris J. (Read) Underwood, Sr. Bill attended public schools in Eustis, Nebraska and graduated from Eustis High School with the class of 1968. He then went on to further his education at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte for Autobody Mechanics. Following school, Bill enlisted in the United States Army on December 3, 1968. He proudly served in his country during Vietnam where he was promoted to Staff Sargent. Following Vietnam, he was stationed in Germany and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After his father’s death, Bill decided not to reenlist and was honorably discharged on July 28, 1976.

Before leaving for Vietnam, Bill attended a dance at the Lexington National Guard Armory in 1967 where he would later meet his first wife, Darlene Ostendorf. They were united in marriage on November 25, 1968. Three sons were blessed to this union: Michael, Bradley and Jeffrey. The family decided to move back to Gothenburg in 1976 where he began to work at Sperry New Holland in Lexington. Deciding to be closer to work, they moved the family to Lexington. In 1986, Bill and Darlene’s marriage ended in divorce.

Bill found love again and was united in marriage to Cathy Cook-Harris on February 14, 1998, in Lexington. He was graced with two loving stepchildren, Shon and Sebrina. During their time together, they made their home in Lexington, Johnson Lake and Elwood. He worked at Dawson Feeders for over twenty years and spent 10 years working for Wal-Mart in the meat department before retiring.

Bill spent his retirement doing the things he loved the most: fishing, working on model cars, and watching college football. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and rarely ever missed a game. Bill loved being outdoors with his faithful dog, Sissy, cooking up some delicious ribs and enjoying an ice-cold Busch Light. Bill was a former member of the Nifty 50’s Car Club and was quite fond of it. Even through his health issues, Bill was a fighter and loved living life to its fullest.

Bill leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Cathy of Elwood; his three boys, Mike Underwood of Cozad, Brad (Amber) Underwood of Kearney and Jeff Underwood of Cozad; step-children, Sebrina (Michael) Berumen of Aurora, Colorado and Shon (Jan) Harris of Lula, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Kenny (Barb) Underwood of Holdrege, James (Lois) Underwood of Lexington, Rod (Lois) Underwood of Lexington and Jerry Underwood of Wilbur; sisters-in-law, Christy Underwood of Azle, Texas, Elsie Underwood of Lexington, and Virginia (Charles) Wind of Mesa, Arizona; brothers-in-law, Lynn (Joyce) Cook of Elsie and Tom Cook of Mullen; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Arthur, and Edwin; sisters, Ethel and Willa; nephew, Jeramy Underwood, and grandson, Joshua Harris.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the LexChristian Church in Lexington with Pastor Dave Leraaen, officiating.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Interment with Military Honors will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad.

(Read) Underwood, Sr. Bill attended public schools in Eustis, Nebraska and graduated from Eustis High School with the class of 1968. He then went on to further his education at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte for Autobody Mechanics. Following school, Bill enlisted in the United States Army on December 3, 1968. He proudly served in his country during Vietnam where he was promoted to Staff Sargent. Following Vietnam, he was stationed in Germany and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After his father’s death, Bill decided not to reenlist and was honorably discharged on July 28, 1976.Before leaving for Vietnam, Bill attended a dance at the Lexington National Guard Armory in 1967 where he would later meet his first wife, Darlene Ostendorf. They were united in marriage on November 25, 1968. Three sons were blessed to this union: Michael, Bradley and Jeffrey. The family decided to move back to Gothenburg in 1976 where he began to work at Sperry New Holland in Lexington. Deciding to be closer to work, they moved the family to Lexington. In 1986, Bill and Darlene’s marriage ended in divorce.Bill found love again and was united in marriage to Cathy Cook-Harris on February 14, 1998, in Lexington. He was graced with two loving stepchildren, Shon and Sebrina. During their time together, they made their home in Lexington, Johnson Lake and Elwood. He worked at Dawson Feeders for over twenty years and spent 10 years working for Wal-Mart in the meat department before retiring.Bill spent his retirement doing the things he loved the most: fishing, working on model cars, and watching college football. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and rarely ever missed a game. Bill loved being outdoors with his faithful dog, Sissy, cooking up some delicious ribs and enjoying an ice-cold Busch Light. Bill was a former member of the Nifty 50’s Car Club and was quite fond of it. George M. “Buck” Ripple, age 93, of North Platte, passed away April 29, 2023, at Great Plains Health.&nbsp;&nbsp;Buck was born November 9, 1929 at Tryon, Nebraska to George D. and Nettie M. Winters Ripple.&nbsp;

Buck graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1948.&nbsp;&nbsp;He then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in the car department and then enlisted in the United States Army.&nbsp;&nbsp;After being discharged from the Army he returned to North Platte, served six years in the Army Reserves and resumed work with the Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp;&nbsp;On November 28, 1953, Buck married Patricia Ann Shay in North Platte, they had one daughter, Theresa Susan.&nbsp;&nbsp;Patricia passed away in July of 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;In June of 1958, Buck joined the North Platte Police Department and served as Line Lieutenant from 1962 until his retirement from the department in November 1989.&nbsp;&nbsp;On December 16, 1958, Buck was united in marriage to Sandra Deann Davis in North Platte, where they remained their entire married life.&nbsp;&nbsp;After retiring from the North Platte Police Department, Buck then worked a few months for the Pacific Fruit Express.&nbsp;&nbsp;In April of 1991, he became employed by the United States Marshall Service as a Special Deputy Marshall, stationed at the North Platte office. He retired from this position on November 9, 2014.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a member of the Police Officers Association of Nebraska, American Legion Post #163, and the Elks Lodge.&nbsp;&nbsp;Buck was an avid Huskers fan, never missing a game on TV.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also a classic car enthusiast, especially his Cadillacs.&nbsp;

Buck is survived by his sons, Michael (Carol) Ripple, and Mark Ripple, of North Platte; sister-in-law’s, Sherry (Dennis) Desy, of St. Peters, MO, Karen Stearns and Kathy Davis of North Platte; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; special friend and neighbor, Karla O’Rourke; along with many other family members and friends.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents George and Nettie; both wives, Patricia and Sandra; daughter, Theresa Susan Vieyra; numerous aunts and uncles.

George "Buck" Ripple (1929-2023)

Steven Ray Anderson born on January 6, 1949, son of Gladys and Raymond Anderson passed April 29th, at the Callaway Good Life Center. As a young child he was raised and baptized in the river by the Open Bible Church. Steve grew up in a family-oriented house, they had many family dinners and went on several family vacations - 47 states to be exact. He was an outstanding athlete. He led many high school basketball and football teams to the state tournament and had competition pumping through his blood. Steve graduated from Halsey-Dunning High School and attended college at Chadron State. On June 16th, 1968, Steve was joined in matrimony with Marilyn Seeley at the Halsey 4-H camp. Steve and Marilyn raised two wild boys, Corey Ray and Kevin Tyler. Steve has had many ventures in his life, he was a hard worker; he raised hogs, ran a mobile station, drove a bread truck, and worked for his dear friend Mike Moody as a feed salesman at Harsh Mercantile in Purdum. He had many hobbies including golfing, goose hunting, walleye fishing, and spending time cheering on his five grandchildren in all aspects of their lives. Later in life he enjoyed cruising dirt roads, watching for deer for his grandchildren, and visiting with neighbors. He was a professional at finding the best chicken fried steak and fried chicken around, and at 10 A.M. you could find him in his chair watching The Price is Right.

Steve is survived by his children, Corey (Tiffany Anderson, Kevin (Jody) Anderson, brother Loyd (Kay) Anderson. Five grandchildren, Kale (Gretchen) Anderson, Ridge (Logan) Anderson, Kutter and Grace Anderson. Two great grandchildren Berkley and Baylor Anderson.

Steve was preceded in death by wife, Marilyn, his mother and father, Gladys and Raymond, his brother Billy Ray, and his grandson Riggin.

Steve Anderson (1949-2023)

Larry Lee Hall, age 83, of McCook, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home on April 29, 2023.

He was born on July 6, 1939 to Franklin and Treva (Greenlee) Hall. He grew up on a farm in Frontier County. He graduated from Red Willow High School in 1957 where he drove the school bus for his ride to school. He went to work at Boeing in Wichita. He returned to help with the family farm after his dad suffered a heart attack.

On December 20, 1960, he was united in marriage to Judy Gross at Memorial Methodist Church in McCook. To this union four living children were born: Gregory, Michael, Jeffory and Joanne.

Larry worked several jobs with Missouri Valley. He started out as a cement truck driver but after they found out he could weld and had mechanic skills he worked mainly in the shop. He would work on interstate bridges by welding stringers by the day and help pour concrete at night. He later went to work at Edwards Machine Shop as a machinists and welder. He continued to love farming and would farm on the weekend when Judy inherited the farm ground in Kansas. Larry and Judy enjoyed traveling when they could and some of their adventures included St Louis, Branson, Pacific Ocean and parts of the western US.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Treva; sisters and their spouses Ardis and Billy Callan and Phyllis and Gerald Greenlee; in-laws Vern and Ruth (Fikan) (Gross) Edwards and father-in-law Joe Edwards; great grandchildren Nicholas and Nathan Hall and Lily Froistad; and numerous other angels taken too soon from several generations of his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Judy of McCook of 62 years; sons Greg and Carri, Mike and Dawn, Jeff and daughter Joni and Mack Kivlehen all of McCook; 3 grandchildren and their spouses and 5 great grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be on May 5, 2023 at 2:00 and will take place at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Eleno Moreno-Montemayor, 53, of North Platte, passed away on April 15, 2023, at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; He was born to Damaso Moreno and Maria Montemayor on March 12, 1970 in Wasco, CA.

Eleno attended school in Scottsbluff and Minatare, NE and then in Houston, TX.&nbsp; He worked for Baker’s Dozen, Packer-land Packing Company, Pizza Hut, and Community of Christ Church, all in Gering, NE.&nbsp; In 2013, Eleno moved to North Platte.&nbsp;

He was a fun-loving person, full of joy and laughter. He enjoyed lifting weights, martial arts and football.&nbsp; He was heavily involved in The Salvation Army as well as The Liberty House.&nbsp; Eleno was loved by so many.&nbsp; He was known to have a great work ethic and be very punctual.&nbsp;

Eleno M. Moreno (1970-2023)

Cynthia McGahan peacefully passed away at her home in North Platte on April 27, 2023, at age 79.

Cynthia, the daughter of Marcial and Encarnacion Corral, was born March 13, 1944, in Sorsogon, Philippines, where she was raised. &nbsp;She met Bryan McGahan while he was serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in the Philippines. &nbsp;After their engagement, Bryan brought her back to Virginia, where he was stationed, and they married on June 21, 1972. &nbsp;After a short time they left Virginia and traveled together all over the country as Bryan continued his military service. &nbsp;In 1998 they settled in Bryan's hometown of North Platte. &nbsp;

Cynthia was a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and worked in various communities then was employed by the Opportunity Center in North Platte. &nbsp;She enjoyed taking care of people and also liked to sew and garden. &nbsp;

Cynthia leaves behind her husband, Bryan; daughters, Marie (Chilton) Leedom of Ceresco, Milcy McGahan (Todd Conklin) of Fremont and Emily (John) Jones of Pass Christian, MS; her sisters, Melinda Consipcion, Leticia Copobres, Janet Corral and Claudet Corral, all of the Philippines; &nbsp;9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held. &nbsp;Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Cynthia McGahan peacefully passed away at her home in North Platte on April 27, 2023, at age 79.Cynthia, the daughter of Marcial and Encarnacion Corral, was born March 13, 1944, in Sorsogon, Philippines, where she was raised. &nbsp;She met Bryan McGahan while he was serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in the Philippines. &nbsp;After their engagement, Bryan brought her back to Virginia, where he was stationed, and they married on June 21, 1972. &nbsp;After a short time they left Virginia and traveled together all over the country as Bryan continued his military service. &nbsp;In 1998 they settled in Bryan's hometown of North Platte. &nbsp;Cynthia was a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and worked in various communities then was employed by the Opportunity Center in North Platte. &nbsp;She enjoyed taking care of people and also liked to sew and garden. &nbsp;Cynthia leaves behind her husband, Bryan; daughters, Marie (Chilton) Leedom of Ceresco, Milcy McGahan (Todd Conklin) of Fremont and Emily (John) Jones of Pass Christian, MS; her sisters, Melinda Consipcion, Leticia Copobres, Janet Corral and Claudet Corral, all of the Philippines; &nbsp;9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other family.She was preceded in death by her parents.Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held. &nbsp;Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Glenna (Dorman) Ozanne, 74, of Cozad, Nebraska, died April 28, 2023 at her home in Cozad with her daughters by her side.

Glenna was born on April 19, 1949, in Gothenburg, NE to Ora and Elsie Dorman. She grew up on the family &nbsp;farm north of Gothenburg. Glenna completed her school education from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1967. Following high school, she obtained her CNA and moved to Colorado where she worked taking care of the mentally challenged children and loved every minute of it. Glenna was married to Gary Branham and to this union two daughters were born: Gina and Goni. In 1972, she moved back to Nebraska where she had a daycare and cleaned businesses in Gothenburg. She later worked at Monroe's for several years until the store closed. Glenna cleaned houses for others on the side and loved doing things for others including making meals, baking banana bread, and loved to make and decorate cakes for her family events and birthdays.&nbsp;

She was a woman of simple tastes and interests. Glenna loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She loved being a mom, aunt, and grandma, family was everything to her. She loved attending all of her grandchildren's sporting events.&nbsp;She also enjoyed doing crafts with her beloved grandchildren and often sewed their Halloween costumes for them. A DIY enthusiast at heart, she spent much of her free time watching anything related to these types of shows.

Survivors include two daughters, Goni Branham of Cozad, Gina (James) Spellman of North Platte, her sister Alice (Lawrence) McCain of Gothenburg, grandchildren, Kaylynn Jo (Chance) McMullen, Tyler McMullen, Ian Branham, Cydney Branham, Brianna Valenzuela, &nbsp;Kaytlynn Spellman, and Tye Spellman along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.&nbsp;

Glenna was preceded in death by her father Ora Dorman, mother Elsie Dorman, grandson, Taylor James Spellman, sister Irene Athey and infant sister, Marilyn Dorman.

Glenna was loved by so many and will truly be missed by so many, especially her family.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, May 3, 2023, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Celebration of life services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10:30 am with Rev. David Boyd officiating. &nbsp;

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.&nbsp;

Lois Ann Lepper (1934-2023)

Kay (Hinton) Connery, 73, of North Platte, NE passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.

Kay was born on August 17, 1949 in Valentine, NE the daughter of Howard and Catherine (Doty) Hinton. Kay attended grades K-5 at District 46, and graduated from Cody-Kilgore High School in 1967. She attended Parks Business College in Denver, CO. She was a firm believer in higher education and attended classes and graduated from Mid Plains Community College in North Platte. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cody.

Kay married Gary Connery on July 1, 1967 in Cody, NE, and together they had one daughter, Amy.

After moving to North Platte in 1979 Kay worked in the Lincoln County District Court System, worked for a law firm and for the State of NE. In these places of employment Kay made many lifelong friends. Kay’s family was the most important thing in her life and her greatest source of pride.

Kay was predeceased by her parents Howard and Catherine Hinton, grandmother Lena Hinton, sister Mary Jo Hinton, niece Mary Kay Robertson, in-laws Mac and Lois Connery, and other family members.

Those who survive Kay are husband Gary Connery, daughter Amy (Matt) Harmon, granddaughter Ella Harmon, niece Cathy Campbell, nephews Justin Cowden and Mathew Gere, and cousin Karen Gere.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with Father Lou Nollette officiating. Cake and coffee reception will follow the service in the Carpenter Memorial Chapel reception room. Memorial book signing will be from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3rd at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. MT on Monday, May 8th at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Cody, NE. A meal will follow the graveside service at the Husker Hub in Cody.

Kay Hinton Connery (1949-2023)

Karen Evans, age 74, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of McCook, NE, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln.

Karen was born August 6, 1948 in Omaha, NE to Donald and Lois Mauldine Estes and adopted by parents Albert and Sarah Culton. &nbsp;Karen’s adoptive mother, Sarah, passed away when she was just two years of age and from that time on, Karen was raised by Webster Lee and Florence Ethel (Culton) Phillips. Karen grew up and attended school in McCook, graduating with the Class of 1966. Following high school, Karen attended McCook Beauty Academy earning her cosmetology degree in 1967.&nbsp; Karen was also employed for many years by Interstate Holiday Inn in Grand Island, NE and later worked for Walmart in McCook until her retirement.

In her free time, Karen enjoyed cooking, crocheting, crafting, playing cards and spending time with her dog Maggie and her family, especially her grandkids. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in McCook.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Evans; and a brother, Donnie Fred.

Those left to celebrate her life include her daughters, Michelle (Scott) Martin of McCook and Sara Evans (John Martin) of Lincoln; daughter in law, Kathy Evans of Grand Island; brother, Ron (Karen) Phillips of Washington; sisters, Connie Larson and Frances Elrod, both of Colorado; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

John C. Owens, a farmer from Stockville, Nebraska, passed away on April 26th, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old.&nbsp;

John was born on May 24th, 1942 at his childhood home southeast of Stockville to parents Richard and Willa Marie (Arent) Owens. He attended elementary school in Stockville and completed his later years of education in Curtis. John went on to graduate from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis where he gained a wealth of knowledge about agriculture that would become a meaningful part of his life's work.&nbsp;

On May 18th, 1962, John married the love of his life, Bernita Hinton in McCook, Nebraska. Together they welcomed four children into their lives: Janelle, Kevin, Rocky, and Marci. His devotion to his family was unending and he loved nothing more than spending quality time with them.

John was an accomplished farmer who took great pride in working the land. He raised cattle for many years which added to providing for his family. He also found time to make a positive impact within his community serving on numerous committees over the years including; serving for twelve years on the Maywood Public School Board and twenty-four years as a member of the Frontier County Fair board where he helped ensure the success of the popular event year after year. He was also currently active as a member of the Stockville Village Board of Trustees.

His love for sports began early in life; he played softball and bowled throughout much of his adulthood and had a passion for horseshoes which he often played with friends and family members. John found joy in sharing this enthusiasm for sports with others by organizing and facilitating annual catfish tournaments locally for over thirty years.

Other pastimes John enjoyed included square dancing. He also impressively finished second in a talent show during a senior center fundraiser event called "Dancing With The Stars". These hobbies and interests provided John with some of his fondest memories and the good-natured competition he shared with those around him highlighted his fun-loving personality.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Bernita, their children Janelle (Dean) Weems, Centennial, CO; Kevin (Stacie Strawn) Owens, Curtis, NE; Rocky Owens, Curtis, NE and Marci (Jay) Pike, also of Curtis; along with ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will forever cherish the memories they have made together.&nbsp;

John was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Willa (Arent) Owens as well as siblings Lyle Owens, Patsie (Owens) Wood, Harold Owens and Shirley Owens, a niece, Bonnie Owens, along with nephew, Richard Gardner, his grandparents Thomas and Cora (Gragg) Owens alongside Fred and Elizabeth (Podewitz) Arent. Though he has left this world John's spirit lives on through the legacy he created within his community, family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Monday, May 1, 2023, 4:00 - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:0-6:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Stockville Fairgrounds, May 2, 2023 at 10:30 am. &nbsp;

Interment will follow in the Arbor Cemetery, Stockville, NE.

Esther Marie Seanor, 92, of Gothenburg, NE died April 26, 2023 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE.

She was born September 13, 1930 in Otis, CO, daughter of Aurther and Lodema (Fuller) Gilder.

She attended Cornerstone Bible Church. Besides teaching Esther was an Interpreter for the Deaf, taught Sunday School, MOPS, was an AWANA leader, and a Child Evangelist since 1950.&nbsp;

After graduating from Delta High School, Esther married George Seanor in December 14, 1949. Once she graduated from Mesa State College, the couple moved to Longview, TX; where they were blessed with two sons: Mel and LeRoy. The family moved back to Colorado where Esther continued to teach and spent 14 years at the US Air Force Academy Elementary School. In 1963 she earned her Masters in Deaf Education, later on she also obtained endorsements in Blind Education from UNL. She was hired as a preschool consultant in Gothenburg in 1978, and was able to help in setting up the first preschool for the state. Esther put her teaching experience to good use by teaching classes at UNK, and North Platte Community College. She spent two terms as Commissioner for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, appointed by the Governor. She loved to travel and read. She was a volunteer at Liberty Heights Christian School where she subbed and taught Bible.

Survivors include son, Melvin "Mel" (Mary) Seanor of North Platte, NE; grandson, Scott Seanor and great-grandson, Logan Scott Seanor and step-grandson Dennis (June) Felch.

Esther was preceded in death her husband, George, parents, Aurther and Lodema Gilder, five brothers, Oren, Clare, Elmer, Harold, Robert "Bob" Gilder, sister, Beulah Alexander, son, Leroy Seanor.

Visitation will take place one hour before the service.

Rhett Morlang (1988-2023)

Joanne went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in Mesa, AZ with her son by her side holding her hand.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was 89 years young.

Joanne was born in Mullen, Nebraska to Martin S. and Mildred (Roth) McDuffee.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a twin and had two other siblings. Joanne received her early education in Mullen and Akron, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;She moved to Broken Bow with her family where she graduated from high school in 1951.&nbsp;&nbsp;She studied at the University of Nebraska. On September 3, 1953, she united in marriage to Robert D. Johnson.&nbsp;&nbsp;From that union there were three children. Joanne devoted her life to her children and husband.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed preparing and hosting family dinners.&nbsp;&nbsp;She took great pleasure in entertaining with lots of good food and especially desserts. Friends were always important and welcome to their home as she loved to visit and catch up. Joanne always found time for her active roll in 4-H with her children, nieces, and community. She loved watching the kids learn and be so involved, to include their sports. She never missed a volleyball or football game, ever! She took great pride in keeping herself “Put together” even as a farm wife/farm hand, she always had her lipstick and jewelry on. After raising her three children, she found golfing and real estate in her future. Joanne was a licensed Realtor in Nebraska and then Arizona where she and Bud resided. She loved the southwest and flourished as a Realtor. She cherished acquaintances and made lifelong friends on and off the golf course.

She was a devoted Christian and a member of the United Methodist Church. She raised her children in the presence of God and valued His Word. That faith gave her the strength to endure the loss of her first born child, Dale.

Joanne is proceeded in death by her Parents, Husband Robert Dale Johnson, Son Dale Floyd Johnson, Twin Sister Jeanne Barrett, Brother-in-law Robert Barrett, Sister Maureen Bindewald, Brother-in-law Fred Bindewald, &amp; Brother-in-law James Bridges.

Joanne is survived by her Son Donald L Johnson (Kathy Oneth), Daughter Linda Dickinson, Grandsons Mickey and Jackson Dickinson, Step Grandchildren Russell Oneth (Rachel), Angela Oneth, Great Grandchildren Dakota Oneth (Maria), Jonathan Oneth, Samuel Oneth, and Xavier Oneth. Great Great Grandchildren Melanie and Alaia Oneth, Sister Patricia Bridges and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 1, 2023, at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. Burial will follow at the Broken Bow Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Sunday, April 30th&nbsp;from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Joanne Johnson (1933-2023)

Evelyne White age 87 of Broken Bow, NE passed away April 25, 2023, at the Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Evelyne Mae White was born November 2, 1935, in Dunning, NE to Richard “Dick” and Verna (Honeywell) Duryea. Evelyne grew up in Brewster, NE. She was Valedictorian of her class and played Volleyball and was a Cheerleader. After graduation she attended Kearney’s Teaching School, returning to teach in Brewster for two years, and married Bruce White of Anselmo on August 14, 1955.

Evelyne was preceded in death by her parents Dick and Verna Duryea, brother Robert Duryea, husband Bruce, and son Robert.

Evelyne is survived by daughters Karen (Don) Hutsell of Louisburg, KS, and Patty (Steve) Zeleski of Lincoln, two grandsons Kyle Zeleski of Lincoln, and Drew (Bailey) Zeleski of Marion, IA, one great granddaughter, and sister-in-law Edna Duryea of Houston, TX.
