By NU Athletic CommunicationsMADISON, Wis. - The No. 6 Nebraska volleyball team fell to No. 5 Wisconsin, 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 21-25, in its final Big Ten road match this season on Sunday afternoon at UW Field House.&nbsp; Lexi Sun had 16 kills on .316 hitting to lead the Huskers, who dropped to 23-4 overall and 15-3 in the Big Ten with two matches to go.&nbsp; The Badgers (21-5, 17-1 Big Ten) won their third match in a row against the Huskers and fifth in the last seven meetings. Wisconsin hit .333 and had a 4-0 edge in aces, 8-4 advantage in blocks and 48-44 edge in digs. It was the first time this year that Nebraska was out-dug by its opponent. The Badgers also had 15 more kills than the Huskers, 54-39.&nbsp; The Huskers hit .241 with Nicklin Hames providing 32 assists and seven digs. Lauren Stivrins had eight kills and a pair of blocks. Madi Kubik had five kills and a team-high 15 digs, and Jazz Sweet also had five kills.&nbsp; Molly Haggerty had 16 kills to lead Wisconsin. Dana Rettke added 12 kills and five blocks.&nbsp; The Huskers finish Big Ten Conference play at home next weekend. Nebraska will host Maryland on Friday at 7 p.m. and Ohio State on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the regular-season finale.&nbsp; Set 1: Both teams flashed great defensive plays early in the set, and Nebraska took a 9-7 lead after kills by Stivrins and Sweet. The Badgers scored four points in a row to go up 12-10 after back-to-back kills by Rettke, and Wisconsin led 15-12 at the media timeout. A UW service error and kill by Callie Schwarzenbach cut it to one, 15-14, but the Badgers pushed their lead to four, 19-15, after a block and kill by Danielle Hart and ace by Lauren Barnes. Wisconsin pulled away to take the set, 25-19.&nbsp; Set 2: Sun produced three kills for the Huskers as the teams split the first 10 rallies, 5-5. Wisconsin claimed an 11-8 lead, but the Huskers fought back with a kill by Kubik and two Wisconsin errors that tied the score at 11-11. But two Badger kills and a block by Rettke and Haggerty restored a three-point Badger lead, 14-11. A couple kills by Sweet helped the Huskers trim it to 17-16, but Wisconsin went ahead 20-17 after a kill and an ace, and Nebraska could get no closer than two the rest of the way as Wisconsin claimed the 25-22 win.&nbsp; Set 3: Nebraska rallied from 10-8 down to go up 12-10 after a kill by Stivrins and a stuff block by Stivrins and Hames. But the Huskers' eighth net violation of the match allowed Wisconsin to score three in a row and go back ahead, 13-12. The Badgers made it 16-14 on a solo block by Rettke, but Nebraska drew even at 16-16 after a kill by Sun and a block by Sweet and Schwarzenbach. With the match tied 18-18, Wisconsin scored via a kill and a block to go up 20-18, but Sweet terminated for sideout. But the Badgers scored four of the final five points of the set to win 25-21.&nbsp;

Huskers Fall at No. 5 Wisconsin

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Brittany Bowlen is rejoining the Denver Broncos next month as vice president of strategic initiatives as she continues her quest to succeed her late father as controlling owner of the franchise valued at close to $3 billion. Bowlen, 29, will report to chief commercial officer Mac Freeman and chief financial officer Justin Webster starting Dec. 2. She will oversee aspects of the team's development project at Empower Field at Mile High, collaborate between departments on business analytics, and monitor industry trends, among other duties. Team president and CEO Joe Ellis said in a statement, "Brittany is working toward earning the right to succeed her father, and this is the next step in that process. Given her work experience and depth of knowledge, we're looking forward to Brittany returning to work for the Broncos and adding value across our organization." After earning degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Duke University, she worked at NFL headquarters in New York from 2013-14 and as a business analyst for the Broncos in 2015. She has spent the last year working for McKinsey &amp; Company, a global business consulting firm. Pat Bowlen died in June at age 75 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, two months before his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and five years after stepping away from his daily duties running the team. The team since 2014 has been run by a trio of trustees — Ellis, team counsel Rich Slivka and local lawyer Mary Kelly — who are responsible for determining if one of Pat Bowlen's children will succeed him in running the team. Pat Bowlen's two children from his first marriage are challenging the validity of the trust in district court in Colorado.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The NFL’s indefinite suspension of Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett has been upheld by an appeals officer. Garrett is banned for the final six regular-season games and playoffs for smashing Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph over the head with a helmet last week. Former player James Thrash felt the discipline for Garrett was warranted. A 2017 No. 1 overall draft pick, Garrett made the case for his suspension being reduced on Tuesday in New York to Thrash, jointly appointed by the league and NFLPA to hear player appeals. The loss of Garrett is a significant setback to the Browns, who are trying to end a postseason drought dating to 2002. Thrash also reduced the suspension for Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey from three games to two for punching and kicking Garrett following the shocking assault on Rudolph. The Browns visit the Steelers on Dec. 1.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — John Sherman has been approved as the new controlling owner of the Kansas City Royals, and his group plans to close its deal to purchase the last-place team from David Glass and his family next week. Major League Baseball owners voted unanimously Thursday to approve the deal, which was announced Aug. 30 and was expected to be worth about $1 billion. Sherman and his local co-investors will become only the third owners since Ewing Kauffman founded the club ahead of the 1969 season. Sherman, 64, has lived in Kansas City for more than four decades, even after he bought a non-controlling interest in the Cleveland Indians. He founded, built and then sold a series of energy companies. “He had a three-year indoctrination with the Indians. The Indians are regarded to be a very well-run and obviously very competitive on the field organization,” baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said. “I think the opportunity to function inside a quality major league organization gives John a unique opportunity to take over in Kansas City, not miss a step.” Kansas City went 59-103, its second straight 100-loss season. Ned Yost, who led the Royals to their second World Series title in 2015, retired as manager and was replaced by Mike Matheny.

By NU Athletic Communications Nebraska outside hitter Madi Kubik was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.&nbsp; Kubik averaged 4.38 kills per set and 2.25 digs per set in wins over Michigan State and Iowa last week and was honored with her second career Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor. The West Des Moines, Iowa native had 19 kills and tied her career high with 16 digs in the five-set win over Iowa on Saturday. She recorded 16 kills on .306 hitting in a sweep at Michigan State last Wednesday.&nbsp; Kubik and the Huskers face No. 7 Minnesota in Minneapolis on Friday at 8 p.m. and No. 5 Wisconsin in Madison on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

After championing the Region IX Tournament in Beatrice, Neb. on their way to Districts, the Knights were the recipients of several regional awards.&nbsp;Named to the All Region Team were NPCC’s Bailey Chintala, Erica Hopping, Gabby Menghini and Sydney Mullin. Chintala, Hopping, Menghini and Mullin were further honored in being named to the All Region Tournament Team, as well. By NU Athletic Communications LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 6 Nebraska volleyball team survived an upset bid by Iowa, defeating the Hawkeyes 3-2 before a crowd of 8,425 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.&nbsp; The Huskers took the first set, 25-20, but surrendered deuce sets to Iowa in sets two and three, 23-25 and 25-27. With their backs against the wall, the Huskers responded by never trailing in a 25-18 set four win and a 15-6 set five win.&nbsp; Madi Kubik led the Huskers (22-3, 14-2 Big Ten) with 19 kills and 16 digs. Jazz Sweet tied her career high with 18 kills and hit .417, and Lauren Stivrins was sharp as well with 15 kills on .542 hitting. Callie Schwarzenbach tied her career high with nine kills and contributed a team-high five blocks. Lexi Sun tallied eight kills and 16 digs.&nbsp; Nebraska hit .263 and held Iowa to a .171 percentage, including .132 and .045 marks in the final two sets. In the decisive fifth set, the Huskers had nine kills and no errors for a .600 hitting percentage.&nbsp; Nicklin Hames had 55 assists and 12 digs, while Kenzie Knuckles had a match-high 22 digs. Megan Miller chipped in 13 digs.&nbsp; Nebraska had 10 more digs (86-76) and 17 more kills (74-57). Iowa had a 5-2 edge in aces, while NU had a slight edge in blocks, 9.0 to 8.0. Stivrins had three kills for the Huskers in that stretch. Iowa responded with four straight points to reclaim a 10-9 lead and force a Husker timeout. Back-to-back kills by Kubik restored a 14-13 NU lead. After Iowa went back in front, Stivrins posted her 10th kill, and Schwarzenbach and Hames combined for NU's sixth block of the night to make it 18-17 Huskers. But the Huskers' sixth net violation of the match and their 19th attacking error aided Iowa in going back in front, 21-19. Two aces in a row by Buzzerio made it set point for the Hawkeyes, 24-20. Kubik produced a pair of kills and Knuckles served an ace to keep the set alive, and Stivrins won a joust at the net to force a 24-24 tie. After Iowa used its second timeout, Stivrins pounded a kill to give Nebraska set point at 25-24. A service error leveled the score again at 25-25, and Iowa scored the final two points of the set on kills by Hughes to take a 2-1 lead in the match.&nbsp; Set 4: Nebraska opened the must-win set with three kills, one by Schwarzenbach and two by Sweet. A block by Hames and Stivrins made it 5-1, and back-to-back kills by Sun helped NU go up by six, 10-4. Iowa took a timeout after the Huskers went up 13-5, and Sweet came up with three kills for the Huskers to keep NU up by eight, 18-10. Kubik's 17th kill made it 19-10, but Iowa scored the next four points to slice NU's lead to 19-14. Sweet and Kubik came up with big kills for the Huskers, and NU regained an eight-point lead at 23-15 before going on to force a fifth set with a 25-18 win. Set 5: Schwarzenbach posted a pair of blocks - one with Sweet and one with Sun - to begin the set. Sweet then terminated her 15th kill of the night for a 3-0 Husker start. After Iowa cut it to 4-3, Sweet crushed consecutive kills, one after an acrobatic dig by Knuckles, and Stivrins added another to make it 7-3 Huskers. Sweet's 18th kill sparked a 4-0 spurt that put NU ahead 11-4, which came on Kubik's 19th kill. The Huskers finished off the victory with a 15-6 win on a kill by Stivrins.&nbsp;

By Tessa Burford The North Platte Community College Knights Women’s Basketball Team started strong in their first round of the Hesston College Classic in Hesston, Kan. by maintaining a steady lead against their opponent and host, Hesston College, ultimately winning 86-51. NPCC’s Jalyn Reagans and Catie Whitehead both grabbed seven rebounds and put up seven points. Isa Valenzuela posted 12 points, Emily Joseph scored 16 points and Ashley Hassett scored 19 points for the Knights. “Tonight, we came out and played our style of basketball. Defending in the half court, creating turnovers and pushing the ball. This was a nice win for us to get off our three-game skid,” said NPCC head coach Jeff Thurman. The Knights resume play in the Hesston College Classic Saturday at 12 p.m. against Bethel College JV. “Now the key for the weekend is to mimic what we did tonight and come out tomorrow with a strong defensive effort,” said Thurman. By NU Athletic Communications Lincoln, Nebraska – Today, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green and Athletic Director Bill Moos announced a two-year extension of the contract for Husker Football Coach Scott Frost.&nbsp;&nbsp;In a joint statement they announced, "Two years ago, we had the tremendous opportunity to bring Scott Frost home to Nebraska to lead our football program into the future.&nbsp;We are even more committed to that decision today.&nbsp;&nbsp;"Coach Frost has shown tremendous leadership in beginning to rebuild our football program.&nbsp;We appreciate that a change of this nature will not happen overnight.&nbsp;We are committed to Scott and the direction he is taking this program.&nbsp;&nbsp;"Scott is the right coach at the right time for this program.&nbsp;We are excited for the heights to which he will take Nebraska football and the tremendous impact he will have in the development of our student athletes."&nbsp;The original terms of Frost's contact will remain intact, with an extension from December 31, 2024, to December 31, 2026.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland police say they are not investigating Browns player Myles Garrett for striking a Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback in the head with a helmet.Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said Friday that police hadn’t received a complaint from Mason Rudolph. And a city spokeswoman says the prosecutor can’t comment because Rudolph hasn’t filed a complaint. Rudolph’s agent, Tim Younger, tells media outlets that no legal options “have been removed from the table.” Rudolph called Garrett’s actions “pretty cowardly.” Garrett&nbsp;pulled off Rudolph’s helmet&nbsp;during a melee at the end of Thursday night’s game in Cleveland and used it to strike him on the head. Garrett is the NFL’s No. 1 overall pick in 2017 and was ejected from the game. The NFL on Friday&nbsp;suspended Garrett&nbsp;indefinitely.

By NU Athletic Communications EAST LANSING, Mich.&nbsp;-&nbsp;The No. 6 Nebraska volleyball team posted its first-ever sweep at Michigan State's Jenison Field House with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-23 win over the Spartans on Wednesday night.&nbsp; The Huskers (21-3, 13-2 Big Ten) swept the Spartans for the first time in 10 matches, dating back to Nov. 15, 2013.&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21146" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Madi Kubik</a>&nbsp;had 16 kills and hit .306 to lead the Big Red, which hit .296 and held Michigan State to .196 hitting for the match.&nbsp; <a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21151" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Lexi Sun</a>&nbsp;added nine kills and nine digs, while&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21149" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Lauren Stivrins</a>&nbsp;had seven kills on .667 hitting, and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21152" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Jazz Sweet</a>&nbsp;added five kills. <a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21144" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Nicklin Hames</a>&nbsp;had 34 assists, 13 digs and a season-high four kills.&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21148" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Callie Schwarzenbach</a>&nbsp;chipped in five kills on .444 hitting and a match-high six blocks.&nbsp; Libero&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21145" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Kenzie Knuckles</a>&nbsp;had a team-best 13 digs.&nbsp; Nebraska held advantages in most of the major statistical categories, including kills (46-37, digs (51-42) and blocks (7-3). Aces were even at three apiece, though the Huskers committed two fewer errors than Michigan State.&nbsp; The Huskers are back at the Devaney Center on Saturday to host Iowa at 7 p.m. The match will be televised on NET, streamed on FoxSports and can be heard on the Husker Sports Network.&nbsp; Set 1:&nbsp;The teams traded points throughout the beginning of the set, and Michigan State was the first team to score consecutive points when a kill and a block put the Spartans up 9-8. Kubik's fourth kill and a Spartan hitting error made it 10-9 Huskers, but MSU answered with a 4-0 run to take a 13-10 lead and force a Husker timeout. The Spartans led 15-11, but a pair of errors and a kill by Hames helped NU get within 16-14. Kills by Sun and Kubik, and a block by Schwarzenbach and Sweet put the Huskers back on top, 19-18. The run continued with two more MSU hitting errors and a kill by Sweet, and the Huskers led 22-18 after the 7-0 run served by Sun. An ace by Knuckles and kills by Kubik and Stivrins closed out the set, 25-20.&nbsp; Set 2:&nbsp;Nebraska built a 7-4 lead with seven kills, three of which came from Kubik. After Michigan State got within 8-7, Sun terminated a kill before Schwarzenbach stuffed an attack on her own, and then the duo combined for back-to-back blocks as the Huskers took a 13-7 lead. They each tacked on another kill before teaming up for a block that made it 20-12, and two more kills each by Sun and Stivrins and one by Kubik helped the Huskers finish a 25-18 win. NU hit .353 in set two and held Michigan State to .093 hitting.&nbsp; Set 3:&nbsp;A 4-1 Husker run broke a 3-3 tie and gave NU a 7-4 edge. Sweet started it with a kill, and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=21147" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(228, 28, 56);">Megan Miller</a>&nbsp;served an ace. Nebraska led 11-8 after a Schwarzenbach kill, but Michigan State went on an 8-2 run to take a 16-13 lead. Stivrins sided out for the Huskers, and Kubik followed with her 13th kill to cut it to 16-15. After Emma Monks terminated for Michigan State, Kubik and Stivrins answered with kills to tie the score at 17-17, and Sun and Kubik recorded three straight kills for a 20-18 lead. MSU came back to tie the set at 23-23, but a service error gave Nebraska match point, and NU won 25-23 after a Spartan attacking error.&nbsp;

Huskers Post Rare Sweep at Michigan State

The North Platte Community College Knights Women’s Basketball Team played Colby Community College in Colby, Kan. and ended the game with a final score of NPCC 50-68 Colby CC.&nbsp;NPCC’s Jalyn Reagans grabbed six rebounds, Emily Joseph scored 11 points, while Ashley Hassett grabbed five rebounds and put up 21 points.&nbsp;“Our effort and energy were there tonight but we just could not put it in the hoop. Giving credit to Colby, we had some good looks that just did not fall tonight, but we will get back into the gym tomorrow and get back to work,” said NPCC head coach Jeff Thurman.&nbsp;The Knights, currently 2-4 on overall season record, next play in the Hesston College Classic in Hesston, Kan. NPCC’s first game of the tournament is against host Hesston College at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15. On Saturday, the Knights will play against Bethel College JV at 12 p.m. The North Platte Community College Knights Men’s Basketball Team hosted Garden City Community College, ultimately posting a final score of Garden City 86-79 NPCC. Tampa Bay prospect Jake Cronenworth put the U.S. ahead to stay in the first inning, Angels draft pick Jo Adell homered and the Americans beat Japan 4-3 Tuesday night at the Tokyo Dome for their first win in the super round of an Olympic baseball qualifying tournament. Clayton Richard, released by Toronto in September, got the win despite allowing two runs in 2 2/3 innings. Brandon Dickson, a former St. Louis pitcher who has spent seven seasons with Orix in Japan's Pacific League, struck out two in a perfect ninth for the save. Seattle's Penn Murfee started with three hitless innings. In Tuesday's other games at the Premier12 tournament, Mexico beat Australia 3-0 and Taiwan defeated South Korea 7-0. Mexico leads with a 3-0 record, followed by Japan and South Korea (both 2-1, the U.S. and Taiwan (both 1-2) and Australia (0-3). Fleck have agreed on a contract extension through the 2026 season. The deal, pending final approval by the Board of Regents, will pay the 38-year-old Fleck $4.6 million in 2020. That's more than a 25% raise from his current contract. The new deal also includes a $10 million buyout owed to the university if Fleck were to leave before Dec. 31, 2020. The Gophers are 8-0 this season, on a 10-game winning streak that's tied for the third-longest in the FBS. COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Jalen Smith had 16 points and 11 rebounds, Darryl Morsell scored 15 and No. 7 Maryland launched a season of high hopes by defeating Holy Cross 95-71. Story by NU Communications Nebraska freshman libero&nbsp;Kenzie Knuckles&nbsp;was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced.&nbsp; Knuckles averaged 5.00 digs per set in No. 8 Nebraska's wins against Rutgers and No. 7 Penn State over the weekend. She posted a career-high 24 digs in the five-set win over the Nittany Lions, as the Huskers held Penn State to a .166 hitting percentage, its lowest mark in a Big Ten match this season. Knuckles also had 16 digs against Rutgers, as NU held the Scarlet Knights to a .099 hitting percentage.&nbsp; The Yorktown, Indiana native picked up her first career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor. Earlier this season she was honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
