Linda Mae Hazlett, 75, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away April 24, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.&nbsp; She was born January 16, 1947 to Harold and Elsie (Gooder) Hazlett in Norton, Kansas.

Linda graduated from Imperial High School, Imperial, Nebraska.&nbsp; After living in various places, Linda moved to North Platte and worked as a caregiver, nurses’ aide and a housekeeper for many years.&nbsp; She enjoyed rubber stamping, plastic canvas, wood working, puzzle books, gardening, reading books and crocheting.&nbsp; Most of all she loved attending church and her church family.&nbsp; She will be dearly missed by all of those who knew her.

Linda is survived by her sister, Gertrude “Trudy” Hazlett, North Platte; other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Elsie Hazlett; brothers Charles and Eugene Hazlett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Valley Christian Church, North Platte with Phil Olsen officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow the service at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.&nbsp; Visitation will be from noon – 5:00, Thursday, April 28 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp;

Linda Mae Hazlett (1947-2022)

Roberta&nbsp;Crites, resident of Dodge, NE, passed away at Linden Court in North Platte, NE, on April 25, 2022, at the age of 86.

Roberta was born to Stephen and Edith Laner at Los Angeles, CA, on March 23, 1936, and grew up in California and Arizona. She married William H. Payne in Arizona and that is where her children, James, William Jr., Kathy and Sandra, were born. After divorcing, Roberta met and married Robert Crites in March of 1971. The family grew with Bob's children, Stephan, Robert Jr., Barbara and Julia, joining Roberta's children. Roberta and Bob made their home in Layton, UT, following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. In 1986, they moved to Southern California and eventually to Dodge, NE, in 2004. Over the years Roberta had several jobs including office work, quality control for Max Factor, was a taxi driver, and worked in the laundry at a nursing home. She was a small but mighty woman! Roberta was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her family, especially her fur babies (her cats).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Edith Laner; siblings, Faye Crites and John Laner; sons, James Payne, William Payne, Jr. and Robert Crites, Jr.; grandsons, Billy Payne, Robert Crites and Lee Ogg; and great-grandson, Donte Morris

Survivors include her husband, Bob, of Dodge, NE; daughters, Barbara Crites of Sutton, NE, Kathy (Wayne) Ellison of McCloud, OK, Sandra Morris of Layton, UT, and Julia (Mike) Schrader of Lewis, IA; son, Stephan Crites of Dodge, NE; daughters-in-law, Teresa Payne of Farr West, UT, and Sandy Payne of Layton, UT; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, and other family.

Roberta Crites (1936-2022)

Our dear sister, LaVerna M. (Krause) Wescoat was born in rural Keith County on September 18, 1927. She passed away at the Great Plains Health Center in North Platte, NE on July 12, 2021.

LaVerna was the first child born to Glenn and Matilda (Jantzen) Krause, and the first grandchild born to John and Alma (Witmus) Krause and Franklin and Anna (Willems) Jantzen. Two years later, when the family had moved to Jansen, NE, she became ‘big sister’ to her baby brother, Donald Dean. He was born with Spina Bifida, but LaVerna had fond memories of entertaining him and making him laugh, before he passed away in the Spring of 1931. Perhaps this was the beginning of her life-long honorable reputation of “big sister” and “entertaining fun lover” which she claimed and certainly deserved. LaVerna began her formal education in Grade 1 in Jansen, NE. Shortly after, the family moved west to rural Keith County where she attended a one-room school south of Paxton. Before the family moved to North Platte in 1936, she became a “big sister” two more times, when Vonnie and Phyllis joined the family. With the exception of her junior high years, where she graduated 8th Grade as Salutatorian in Washington, KS, she attended schools in North Platte. She was part of the NPHS class of 1944. Her post-high school education included a year at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City and graduation in 1948 from Faith College, then called Omaha Bible College. When she would come home for visits, she thrilled and entertained us with wild stories of life in the big city (some were true!). In addition, she took a variety of courses from Omaha University and North Platte Community College. Her learning never ended as she had an inquisitive and ever-exploring mind combined with wonderful creative skills. Many of LaVerna’s contributions to her family and others were simply learned without formal training.&nbsp; She kept her family in haircuts and curls. Most of our clothes were skillfully and fashionably created by her. This included her three sisters’ wedding gowns as well as her own. The year 1944 marked the beginning of LaVerna’s working career. She taught at Sunnyhill School, the same school she had attended as a child, south of Paxton. That year she also was privileged to become ‘big sister’ once more when baby Mary Ellen arrived. Other employment was for the Douglas County Superintendent of Schools in Omaha and Radio Station KNBR In North Platte. By now the ‘big city was calling once again.'&nbsp; This time it was Denver. She worked as assistant to the president of Denver Wood, Hallcraft, and Hutchinson Homes. In 1970, she married Howard Wescoat, originally from Stapleton. They resided in Arvada until he was transferred to Omaha by his employer. Here she worked as a transcriber for Douglas County Court Reporter and later as secretary/tour guide for NW Bell. When they moved back to North Platte, she continued with NW Bell until their office closed. LaVerna had a strong faith in God and church was very important to her. Her mother led her to the Lord at the age of nine, and she was baptized along with her father and joined the Berean Church in North Platte in 1940. She used her gifts of teaching and leadership to direct a children’s choir, teach Sunday school, children’s church, direct DVBS, and sing in the choir and small groups.&nbsp; During their stay in Denver, they were active and involved in the Community Baptist Church, and while in Omaha, at Harvey Oaks Baptist Church.&nbsp; Later on, after returning to North Platte, she, along with her husband, sponsored the Berean Church Singles’ Group and directed the church social activities. She was missionary group leader and secretary of the women’s executive board of the Berean Church for a number of years. Other volunteer church positions of leadership were the Young at Heart and Benevolence Committee. She also had a warm spot in her heart for Maranatha Camp, volunteering as part of a Maranatha Camp promotional team travelling throughout Nebraska in the 1950s. In recent years she volunteered at Camp in the Sweet Shop. Outside the church, LaVerna held several positions on the board of the local Christian Women’s Club and Gideon Auxiliary, where she served in local, state, and inter-national leadership roles. She loved travelling and speaking to Gideon's groups throughout the USA. Her love for the artistic and esthetic led her, together with her husband, to grow dahlias, both at home and as a project for the Western Nebraska Research Center.&nbsp; With her gifts of leadership and creativity, she became a National Representative for American Dahlia Society. She was also a member of the Colorado Dahlia Society, the Spade and Hope Garden Club, State President of the Nebraska Flower Show Judges’ Council, and life member of National Garden Club. She also served as a Life Nationally Accredited Flower Show judge. In later years she became a Member Emeritus.&nbsp; She had a knack for arranging flowers and shared many gorgeous bouquets with the church as well as with shut-ins and hospital patients and for various civic events. She was a judge at flower shows, county fairs, dahlia exhibitions, etc. and was a volunteer with RSVP. She was also a very respectable painter in oils. LaVerna loved to keep busy, but always had time for her friends and a good card or dominoes game or a trip to Cody Park for an ice cream. Although she had no children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews (and their children) as if they were her children. They knew and felt that, and as a result she was a favorite aunt to all of them. Even young adults in the church were drawn to her and lovingly called her “Grandma.”

The four Krause sisters were known for their hilarious sister biennial reunions over the past 25 years. It was usually LaVerna who planned the entertainment and made the appropriate costumes for each place (show girls for Las Vegas, Amish girls for Pennsylvania, cowgirls for North Platte, Red Racers in Branson, etc.)

LaVerna is survived by her three sisters: Vonnie (Ward) Childerston of Hagerstown, MD; Phyllis Wiebe of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada; and Mary Ellen (Loren) Miller of Castor, Alberta Canada. Her beloved nieces and nephews: Jim (Carolyn) Childerston and family; Tim (Beth) Childerston; Steve (Carrie) Childerston and family, Jon (Reba) Childerston and family; Joel (Brenda) Wiebe and family, Lori Wiebe, Karis Wiebe and family; Mitch (Angie) Miller and family, Jill (Delvin) Bossert and family, and Steven Miller. She is also survived by Howard’s daughters: Pam and Lisa Wescoat of North Platte, and one sister-in-law, Violet (Bob) Hall of Denver.

Graveside service and inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at North Platte City Cemetery.&nbsp; A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Berean Church. Donations in memory of LaVerna Wescoat may be made to Maranatha Camp, Gideon's, or a charity of your choice.

LaVerna’s daily prayer was ‘Lord, please bless me and make me a blessing.”&nbsp; And He surely did.

LaVerna M. Wescoat  (1927-2021)

William (Bill) Herbert Brunz was born to Eva (Meyer) and William G. Brunz on December 20, 1928, in Scottsbluff, NE. He passed away at the age of 93 on April 25, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children.

Bill’s family moved to Mitchell, NE, where he resided until 1946 when, at the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, for three years and during that time went on maneuvers to Kodiak Island, AK, as a high-speed radio operator. He was honorably discharged having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in November 1949. He was called back to active duty during the Korean conflict in September 1950, and served until October 1951. Bill was active in the American Legion for nearly 70 years. His service to his Country was very important to him and he was a proud Marine.

Bill and Naomi G. Harmon were married on January 13, 1950. To this union three sons were born, Bill, Bob and Tom. Following working in the family blacksmith shop, Bill was hired by Mobil Oil Corporation in 1954 as a maintenance mechanic and the family moved to Milford, NE. As his career progressed with Mobil he was promoted to Senior Field Engineer and worked out of offices in Omaha, NE, Sioux Falls, SD and St. Louis, MO until his retirement in 1985. After retiring to Sutherland, NE, he was active in Community affairs serving on the Village Board (6 years as Chairman) and the Library Board.&nbsp; He spent his retirement years loving his grandchildren, camping, fishing, hunting, spending time at the farm with his Labrador retrievers and Friday nights at Ole’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Esther, brothers George and Victor, and son Tom. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Naomi, his sons Bill (Cindy), Bob (Linda), daughter-in-law Patti, 11 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Clint, a sister Betty, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating.&nbsp; Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Ft. McPherson National Veterans Cemetery in Maxwell.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to either Sutherland American Legion, Sutherland Library or the Sutherland Fire Department.&nbsp; Arrangements have been entrusted to Carpenter Memorial Chapel.&nbsp;

William Herbert Brunz (1928-2022)

Clifford D. Hemenway, 81, of Sumner, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Kearney Regional Health Center.

Clifford was born on December 24, 1940, to Eddie E. Hemenway and LeEtta (Wolf) Hemenway in North Platte, NE. He grew up on the Pawnee Springs Ranch at Maxwell, NE. He graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1960.&nbsp; Clifford was united in marriage to Barbara K. McCauley on June 26, 1960, in Sumner, NE. This union was blessed with 4 children: Dalene, Cynthia, Eddie, and Brandon. Early in his marriage he worked at various farms and ranches in the North Platte area. In the 1970’s, Cliff and his family moved to Sumner, NE, where he owned his own backhoe and trenching business and also worked security for Sperry New Holland. Later, he spent 25 years in maintenance at S-E-M schools where he retired in 2012. During this time he also served on the Sumner Village Board including a stint as mayor, Village Fire Department, Commercial Club, Sumner Saddle Club, and volunteered with the Sumner Rescue Unit as an EMT. During this time he was also the maintenance director for the Village of Sumner. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Loup Valley Sam’s camping club. He kept active traveling and visiting his grandchildren and family in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, South Dakota, and Tennessee.

Cliff is survived by his wife Barbara, of Sumner; daughters, Dalene (Chris) Bricker of Westminster, Colorado and Cyndi (James) Hoyt of Lexington; sons, Ed (Theresa) Hemenway of Sumner and Brandon (Patricia) Hemenway of Henry, Tennessee; grandchildren, Dan (Kathy) Hoyt of Overland Park, Kansas, Aaron (Jennifer) Hoyt of Lexington, Ethan Hemenway of Henry, Tennessee, Caitlain Bricker of Westminster, Colorado, Joshua Bricker of Westminster, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Declan of Lexington; sister, Velma Craig of Cozad; brother, Larry (Carol) Hemenway of Paxton; brother-in-law, Richard (Karen) Torske of Stuart, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.&nbsp;

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and LeEtta Hemenway; and grandson, Austin Hemenway.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Sumner-East Campus with Pastor Ken Hutson, officiating. The Service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at the United Church of Sumner-East Campus. Clifford D. Hemenway (1940-2022)

Jacquelyn Delores Lutz, 88, of Benkelman died with her sons at her side on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, NE. Jackie was born to Douglas and Blanche (Morehouse) McDowell of rural Cheyenne County, KS on Oct 29, 1933. She was united in marriage with Dale Vernon Lutz on May 6, 1951 at St Francis, KS. They were blessed with three children Marty, Nan, and Mickey. The family farmed northwest of Benkelman. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman. Jackie spent her childhood on the family farm on South Fork in Cheyenne County, KS. Riding horses was one of her true joys. She attended country school until high school when she moved to Benkelman. There, she lived in the basement of Morehouse Hospital attending high school during the day while working evenings at the hospital for room and board. Her work at the hospital sparked an interest in nursing. Later she would seek a career in nursing, working at Morehouse Hospital and then, for many years, as a surgical and office nurse for Dr. James Monaghan, Benkelman, NE. Husband, Dale, was the love of her life. Together, they shared a love for their family and farm. Time away from the farm was spent enjoying shared interests in fishing, antiquing, and traveling. Many of their travels led to casinos where Jackie enjoyed the intellectual challenge of gambling. Over the course of many years, she built a sizable and diverse antique collection. Inspired by the beauty and rarity of antique glassware, she became a connoisseur in her own right. Her ability to identify, classify, and value glassware was impressive. Spending time with friends was equally important, especially when it came to playing bridge and celebrating birthdays. Throughout life, Jackie never shied from a challenge. She embraced modern technology and learned to incorporate it into her daily life. She delighted in how it kept her connected to loved ones. Jackie’s character has always been defined by independence, knowledge, and determination. True to character, she valiantly and relentlessly worked to overcome the health challenges of her latter years to continue to live a good quality of life. She leaves family and friends with the words of a clipping found posted in her home that encompasses the philosophy in which she lived her life. “Never give up on hope, never doubt, never tire and never become discouraged. Jacquelyn D Lutz (1933-2022)

Rick Lee Welch was born April 23, 1968, in Omaha, NE, and became the first child of his proud parents, Jack and Karen Welch, by adoption in June 1968. Rick was baptized into the Christian faith at United Methodist Church in Imperial, NE, shortly after his adoption. Rick grew up in Imperial and during his junior high and high school years, he was so proud to make his contribution to athletics as a student manager for boys’ sports. Rick graduated from Chase County High School in 1987 and then moved to McCook, where he worked as a cart pusher for over 30 years at Walmart and more recently, local grocery stores in both Imperial and McCook. Rick had a passion for bowling, belonging to leagues in McCook and Imperial. He also competed in state bowling for Special Olympics and several times attended the National Special Olympics competition. Rick had the ability to make friends wherever he would go, and you could always find him at any sporting event. He had a love for high school sports and was always an avid Longhorn fan. In most recent months, Rick took on the role of helping care for his parents while also working at his favorite hang-out, Kwik Stop. Rick spent his last day, his 54th birthday, doing what he loved – helping cut up a tree. He passed away on April 24, 2022, at his parents’ home in Imperial. Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents: Linus (Jake) and Elda Welch and Clayton and Iva Mae Meyer; cousin: Jim Welch; and aunts and uncles: Ron and Connie Tellier, Jean Welch, Bev Claney, and Dwight Welch. She was born April 10, 1936, to Walt and Leota (Miller) Anthony in North Platte along with siblings Neal Anthony (Dixie), Marilyn Ruiz (Sotero), Jim Anthony (Carolyn), Otis Anthony (Carolyn), Jack Anthony, Elaine Spanjer (Leland), and Dorla Keup (Ivan).&nbsp;

Audrey was united in marriage to Jack Clouse and to this union five children were born, Stanley Clouse of Kearney, RaeAnn (Bob) Lorence of Lincoln, Dana Glaze of Omaha, Randy (Kim) Clouse of Baytown, Texas, and Jason Clouse of North Platte.&nbsp; In addition to her children, survivors include grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walt and Leota Anthony, in-laws Jim and Marion Clouse, her husband Jack Clouse, daughter-in-law Leeann Clouse, grandson Jeremiah Clouse, her brothers Neal, Otis, and Jack and her sisters Marilyn and Dorla.

Audrey loved gardening, canning, camping, cooking, bingo, craft activities, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; She worked as a cook at the Brady Public Schools for twenty years while raising her children and following their activities. She was a Jehovah’s Witness affiliated with the North Platte congregation and enjoyed witnessing about God’s promises as well as going to conventions, quick builds of Kingdom Halls, and associating with her brothers and sisters in her faith.

On April 16, 1977, he wed Luella Meader and to this union four children were born: Jodi, Staci, Kyle and Mike. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;JP worked as a mechanic, opening JP Repair in 1985. He was well known in the area for his mechanic skills. In 2009, he began working for CPI in Cambridge as an operations mechanic and safety officer. A year later, CPI was purchased by Nebraska Corn Processing (NCP) where JP recently worked as maintenance coordinator. He began serving on the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department in 1986, retiring in 2011 after 14 years as the Chief. He was also an influential councilman on the City Council for 15 years that was instrumental in the BIC (Bartley, Indianola, and Cambridge) Water project and ethanol plant project. JP also played a significant role in starting the Furnas County Home Owned Carnival that continues to be a great success story today. In his spare time, you could find him working on mechanic projects, mowing, small farming, and teaching his beloved dogs special tricks. JP was always willing to help anyone in need and will be greatly missed by many.

He was born in Cambridge on December 15, 1955, to John R. and Beulah (Mousel) Trumble. JP attended Cambridge Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1973. Verna M. Miller, 96, of North Platte, NE passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Great Plains Health Hospital.

She was born on July 15, 1925 in Dickens, NE the daughter of Maurice and Verna (Demilt) Fitch. Verna graduated from North Platte High School in 1943 with a teacher certificate, and went on to teach in Ash Grove country school.&nbsp; She married Melvin A. Miller on October 27, 1945 in Oberlin, KS and together they had three children.&nbsp; She then worked alongside her husband on the family farm until his passing in 2009.&nbsp; Verna enjoyed volunteering and could be seen every Monday at the Thrift Center.&nbsp; She was a member of the Sunshine Extension Club for over 70 years.&nbsp; She was a member of First Lutheran Church, and attended Parkview Nazarene Church along with her son and family.&nbsp; Verna loved her family and especially enjoyed time with all of her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Verna’s memory are her children, Cheryll D. Wright (Jack) of Conway, AR, Rodney M. Miller (Debbie) of North Platte, and Gary A. Verna Maurine Miller (1925-2022)

&nbsp; Nancy Elaine Bauer was born February 17, 1947 in Maniyunk, PA to Lillian M. and Webster W. Little. She started her life playing in the waters of the Delaware and Atlantic Ocean. She loved water and the sun and enjoyed them as much as possible. Her true loves were her dogs, any and all, they ended up at her house. She welcomed all strays into her home, whether they were canine, feline, swine or human, she welcomed any and all. She was a hard worker and her hobby was her yard and trees, and of course her lilac bushes. Not much luck with the willow, though. She moved to Colorado in 1976 with her first husband, Ed Miller, where she lived until her now spouse, Richard, came and swept her off her feet and they eventually moved to Utah before finally settling in Kilgore, NE in 1992. There is where she had many friends from the Lakota tribe who she loved so dearly. She embraced their culture, attending ceremonies, pow wows and sweats. Nancy also had a wild side. She was funny and had a contagious laugh. Her biggest asset was her heart. She loved hard and helped everyone. She was a special person and had a very special life. Anyone who met her was sure to love her without a doubt. Nancy passed away at her home in Kilgore on February 17, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Betty O’Donnell and Sandy Iatarola; brother Alfred Hackett; son Michael Miller, Sr; infant son Mark Miller; and great grandson JJ Fay; parents-in-law Frank and Dolly Bauer; and siblings Frank, Albert, Harry, Leu, Johnny, Alfred and Tammy. On April 16th, 2022, Kelle’s battle with a complicated heart surgery came to an end. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Kelle is the oldest of four children: Barnie Sherman of Whitney NE, Kody (Sonia) Sherman of Morrill, NE, and Bill (Cindy) Sherman of Yuma, AZ. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;With a stint of grade school in Arthur, Seneca, ID, and a couple years in Nevada, Kelle’s traveling education was topped off with her sophomore through senior year at Mullen. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Seneca was always home, so wherever Glen’s teaching or construction occupation took his family, they could always go back to Seneca. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On August 31,1968 Kelle married Melvin McIntosh for a 46-year marriage to which one son was born in 1969. Kelle was a stay-at-home mom until 1977. In the fall of ’77 Kelle began her career in the school lunch program which turned in to a 45-year occupation. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In the spring of 2015, Kelle took on more dishes to clean, working in the kitchen at Sandhills Golf Course. She never liked the 3:30 AM wake ups, but always enjoyed the drive to work and home with the ladies. Each spring since being hired Kelle would be to excited to get her phone call to come back and work in the kitchen. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Like every other grandparent in the Sandhills, Kelle spent endless hours chasing grandkids in their sporting events, even a few nieces and nephews.&nbsp; If it be a high school rodeo or Vegas, she never got tired of talking about coming home from Pinnacle Bank Arena victorious. She is so proud of you, Brode Shane. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Always looking for something to bet on. May it be March Madness, 27’s at Red’s, or Cleopatras at Rosebud. Kelle was always ready to throw a twenty down or a hundred. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;If it be April Fools or her genius use of duct tape. Kelle could leave you border-line kicking rocks in a parking lot. Ya, that crazy old lady, she is my mom.

Gary C. White (1954-2022)

Freddie Manuel Ramirez was born in Granada Hills, California on March 25, 1987. Freddie was 35 years old and sadly passed away in Kearney, Nebraska on the night of Friday April 15, 2022.

Freddie is the child of Jorge and Griselda Ramirez.&nbsp; He was also the brother of Jorge Jr Ramirez. Freddie was united in marriage with Ana Ramirez on June 5, 2010, and blessed with four children: Esmeralda - 15, Evelyn - 14, Samuel - 5, and Emma Ramirez - 3. Freddie graduated from central community college in Hastings Nebraska with an Associate Degree in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration. He was employed in Maverick Refrigeration out of Omaha Nebraska. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and frog hunting. He always enjoyed spending time with his kids in activities he loved. Freddie was preceded by death with his mother, Griselda Ramirez.

Freddie is leaving behind a big family and is beloved by many. Freddie was a brother, father, uncle, cousin, husband. He is now at peace and will always be in our hearts.

Freddie was united in marriage with Ana Ramirez on June 5, 2010, and blessed with four children: Esmeralda - 15, Evelyn - 14, Samuel - 5, and Emma Ramirez - 3. Freddie graduated from central community college in Hastings Nebraska with an Associate Degree in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration. He was employed in Maverick Refrigeration out of Omaha Nebraska. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and frog hunting. He always enjoyed spending time with his kids in activities he loved. Freddie was preceded by death with his mother, Griselda Ramirez.Freddie is leaving behind a big family and is beloved by many. Freddie was a brother, father, uncle, cousin, husband. Freddie Manuel Ramirez (1987-2022)

James "Jim" Edward Reiners, age 87, lifelong resident of rural Indianola, NE passed away on April 21, 2022 at Brookestone Gardens in Kearney, NE.

Jim was born on April 9, 1935, to Edward and Caroline (Hofman) Reiners.&nbsp; He was the beloved older brother to his four sisters. Jim attended St. John’s Parochial School before attending McCook High School. He was an active member of the FFA where he broadened his love for farming. He was the Nebraska state champion of the Road-E-O driving contest and placed 10th overall in the nation in Washington DC.&nbsp; Following graduation in 1953, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Upon returning home, Jim met and married the love of his life, Wendy Pickett at St. John's Lutheran Church on December 8, 1957.&nbsp; They made their home on the family farm outside of Indianola. The couple was blessed with and raised six wonderful children. Jim was selected as “Father of the Year” in 1977. Jim was a devout Christian and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was the Sunday School Superintendent, played the organ, sang in the choir, served on the Lutheran Laymen's League and served in various other facets of the church.&nbsp; Jim was a lifelong farmer. In fact, Jim and Wendy were awarded the Nebraska Pioneer&nbsp;Farm Award for long and meritorious service to agriculture exemplified by continued ownership within the family of the same Nebraska farm for over 100 years. He made over 700 miles of terraces and was awarded the Middle Republican NRD 2000 Conservation Award from Farm Credit Services of America. He raised numerous crops throughout the years. As his farming career slowed down, you could find Jim driving the ranger in the pasture to check water tanks and enjoying the view from his porch swing. Outside of farming, Jim enjoyed numerous card games with family and friends. He was a skilled carpenter, and added onto his family home. Jim had the kindest heart and was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Wendy of Indianola; sons, Michael (Charlene) of Grand Island; Douglas (Ruth Ann) of Frederick, CO; Rick (Friday) of Indianola, Greg (Hayden) of McCook; and Kevin (Irene) of Lincoln; daughter, Jackie (Don) Liess of Kearney; sisters, Norma (Don) Klein of McCook; Carolyn (Pete) Keith of Penokee, KS; Sandra (Mike) Haskins of Lawson, MO; and Evelyn Reiners of Kearney; 21 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.&nbsp; Jim was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with the family greeting friends. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marvin Riley, age 78, of Indianola, NE, passed away at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

He was born on August 13, 1943, to Gilbert and Vonnie (Duncan) Riley in Pawhuska, OK. The family moved to Nebraska where Marvin graduated from McCook High School in 1962.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In 1967, Marvin married Ruth Klinzeman and to this union two sons were born, Brent and Brice. On November 23, 1984, he married Shirley Allen in Indianola. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Marvin was employed at McCook Pack, hauling to New York, also, working for Parker Hannifin for over 30 years in the warehouse. After he retired, he drove a truck for Ryan Peters and Morgan Mud. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. He and Shirley belonged to the Good Sam Club and enjoyed traveling, visiting family and winter trips to Arizona. &nbsp;

Amy Jo Kenney Weiss Bonner-Monasmith was born November 29, 1933, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Jay and Helen (Lidmilla) Kenney. At the age of seven, Amy was adopted by George and Goldie (Sitzman) Weiss. Amy grew up on the family farm near Imperial, Nebraska, and graduated from Chase County High School in 1951. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On June 1, 1951, Amy married Richard Bonner and the couple first settled in Imperial. They later moved to Sidney, Nebraska, where Amy worked at the Sidney Telegraph Newspaper. In 1991, Amy married Donald Monasmith and the couple made Imperial their home. After Amy moved back to Imperial, she was employed at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home and she also worked numerous part-time jobs. Amy was a member of the Imperial Lions Club. She enjoyed collecting turtles and working on puzzles. Amy especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Amy passed away Friday morning, April 22, 2022, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial. She was 88 years of age. Amy Bonner-Monasmith (1933-2022)

Rocky Lyn Stewart 67, of Sutherland, Nebraska passed away at home on April 20th, 2022.

Rocky was born May 22nd, 1954 to Carl William and Erma Gene Velma (Adams) Stewart in Holyoke, Colorado. He went to kindergarten in Grant, Nebraska. Then moved to O’Neill, Nebraska where he attended school and graduated in 1972 from O’Neill High school. Rocky joined the United States Marines September 28th, 1972 he was a rifleman and was discharged September 27th, 1978 with a good conduct medal. He was in the Honor Guard in Washington DC from 1973 to 1975. Rocky then went on to working for the Texas Department of Corrections from 1975 to 1982. He then went to work for Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte, Nebraska in 2004 until 2021 when he retired as a Train Conductor. On December 9th, 2010 Rocky married Jackie Moran. He had many hobbies and one was his love for riding Harley’s; he also loved fishing, hunting, camping and anything outdoors. He loved cooking, music, and just spending time with family and friends, some who were lucky enough to give him the nickname Creampuff.

Rocky is survived by his mother Erma Gene, his wife Jackie Stewart; three daughters, Colleen (Mike) Cornelius and their children Maggie and Macy; Amanda Carol Harlemen and her daughters, Shelbie and Faith Harlemen,&nbsp;Alexandria (Justin) Jaster&nbsp;; Cheyenne (Katie) and their son Archer Stewart; one son Joshua and his children, Jayden and Cashton Stewart; Stepsons, Dan(Heather) Piersol and their Children Jack and Laura Piersol ; Corey( Sarah) Piersol and their children, Kori and Lincoln Piersol and Jayden, Jerrica and Jaleigh Curtis; Brandon(Robin) Piersol; and their children Alyssia, and Gary Piersol; two brothers, Ron (Teresa) Stewart; Rodney(Barbara) Stewart; Two Brother in law’s Vernon Moran; Ron (Vickie) Moran; Sister in law Tammy (Dick) Simonson. Rocky Stewart (1954-2022)

Thomas&nbsp;Starling of North Platte, passed away at Great Plains Health on April 21, 2022. He was 68 years old.

Tom was born to Everett and Dorothy Starling at Wichita, KS, on June 30, 1953. He grew up and went to school in Kansas City, KS, then enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his discharge, Tom returned to Kansas where he worked for Boeing in Wichita before hiring on with the Union Pacific Railroad in Kansas City. The railroad transferred him to North Platte in 1988 and Tom worked until retiring in 2016. On October 17, 1997, Tom married Coniss Schick Young in Craig, NE, and they made their home in North Platte. Tom was a member of the Eagles Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Dorothy, and brothers, Everett and Martin Starling. Survivors include his wife, Coniss; children, Thomas (Corinne) Starling and Matthew (Maggie) Starling of Omaha and Rachel Starling of De Soto, KS; stepchildren, Dustin Young (Jamie Thomas) of Bondurant, IA, Heather (Mark) Rhoden of Lincoln and Lindsey Young of North Platte; his sister, Rita Barker of Denver, CO; brothers John Starling of Kansas City, KS, and Daniel Starling of Overland Park, KS; and 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other family.

He was 68 years old.Tom was born to Everett and Dorothy Starling at Wichita, KS, on June 30, 1953. He grew up and went to school in Kansas City, KS, then enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his discharge, Tom returned to Kansas where he worked for Boeing in Wichita before hiring on with the Union Pacific Railroad in Kansas City. The railroad transferred him to North Platte in 1988 and Tom worked until retiring in 2016. On October 17, 1997, Tom married Coniss Schick Young in Craig, NE, and they made their home in North Platte. Tom was a member of the Eagles Club.He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Dorothy, and brothers, Everett and Martin Starling. Survivors include his wife, Coniss; children, Thomas (Corinne) Starling and Matthew (Maggie) Starling of Omaha and Rachel Starling of De Soto, KS; stepchildren, Dustin Young (Jamie Thomas) of Bondurant, IA, Heather (Mark) Rhoden of Lincoln and Lindsey Young of North Platte; his sister, Rita Barker of Denver, CO; brothers John Starling of Kansas City, KS, and Daniel Starling of Overland Park, KS; and 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other family.In keeping with Tom's wishes, cremation was chosen and service will be held in Kansas at a later date. Thomas Starling (1953-2022)

Michael Ray Mullen, 62, of North Platte, NE passed away after a valiant fight with heart disease for the past 12 years and cancer on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at his home.&nbsp; He was born on December 6, 1959 in McCook, NE son of Cecil Ray and Sharron Kay (White) Mullen.

Michael graduated from Maywood High School and worked as a fireman on the Union Pacific Railroad for many years.

Those left to cherish Michael’s memory are his companion, Gregg A. Robertson of North Platte; sister, Diane Dykes (George) of Vydalia, GA; brothers, Jerry Kent Mullen (Loraine) of Maywood, Jim Mullen of McCook, and Dave Mullen (Sherie) of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents.

Jon Edward Brown 64, of Lexington passed away Thursday, April 12, 2022 at his home in Lexington. Jon was born September 8, 1957 in Riverside, California to Lloyd and Dorothy (Hultman) Brown. He graduated from Buena High School, in Sierra Vista, Arizona in 1975 and then entered the US Army. After his honorable discharge he worked for the VA for many years in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1998, he moved to Lexington where he was employed at Tri County Hospital and also worked at Walmart. He was an avid reader and was very talented and loved to design objects.&nbsp; He had a passion for electronics, science fiction and learning.&nbsp; He was a member of the Society of Creative Anachronisms.

Jon is survived by three brothers: David and wife Amy Willard of Colorado Springs, CO., Ernest Brown of Kearney and Martin and wife Louise Brown of Eagle River, Alaska, two sisters: Ida Mackey of Yuma, Arizona and Vicki and husband Scott Hanna of Kearney as well as a half-sister, Katherine Robison of Sioux City, Iowa.&nbsp; &nbsp;He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jon is preceded in death by his parents.

Inurnment will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors. Grady Ryan Simants, 14, of North Platte, NE passed away to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Grady was born on April 18, 2008 in North Platte, the first born son of Jodi Rief Simants and Bill Simants.&nbsp; He attended McDonald Elementary School, Madison Middle School and was currently enrolled in the 7th grade at Adams Middle School in North Platte.&nbsp; Grady was a lifelong fan of the firefighting and police professions and especially loved firetrucks.&nbsp; He was recently made an honorary member of the North Platte Fire Department.&nbsp; He was also a fan like most boys his age of the Incredible Hulk and trains.&nbsp; Grady was a proud Cub Scout who received his “Arrow of Light” badge on February 18, 2020.&nbsp; He loved sports along with his Dad and brother, and was the #1 fan of the Omaha’s Finest softball team.&nbsp; Grady lived life to the fullest and ran his race with great strength, bravery and perseverance.

Violet T. Blume, age 96, longtime resident of Indianola, NE passed away on Wednesday,20, 2022 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Violet was born December 10, 1925 in McCook to parents Rex and Gladys (Cook) Cross.&nbsp; She was one of four children born to this union.&nbsp; Violet attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1942. She went on to attend McCook Community College for one year.&nbsp; On April 8, 1944, Violet married the love of her life, Harold A. Blume in Oberlin, KS. The couple was blessed with four children.&nbsp; The family made their home in Indianola, NE. Violet was a 70+ year member of the Indianola Methodist Church where she served with the United Methodist Church Women as well as on the church board.&nbsp; In her spare time, Violet enjoyed gardening and was active in several pinochle card clubs. &nbsp;She will be remembered for always telling those she loved, “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Blume; brothers, Richard and Donald Cross; sister, Virginia (Dave) Cynova and infant sister Mary; daughters, Thelma (Jerrell) Pickett and Pauline Jones; as well as two grandchildren, Tammy Pickett and Jesse Randolph.&nbsp; Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Kenneth (Bosa) Blume of Vrlika, Croatia and Nancy (Larry) Randolph of Indianola, NE; sisters in law, Noreen Cross of Palmetta, Florida, Alice Hansen of Cambridge, NE and Janie McConville of Indianola; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.&nbsp;
