Calvin Young (1930-2022)

Larry D. Comer, 84, died January 7, 2022, at a Rapid City, SD hospital. He was born October 25, 1937, in Ogallala, NE, the son of Merle Max and Laura Maude (Rumsey) Comer. Larry graduated from Brule High School, class of 1955. After high school, he went to college at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. During college, he met Sandra Spath at a dance in Ogallala and knew this would be his future wife. They married in Elsie, NE, on November 10, 1957. Larry worked at Brule for Wayne Frates as a hired man. He and Sandra later moved to the farm at Elsie, NE, where they raised their four children. Larry loved farming and working with his neighbors and friends. Larry had served on the school board at Elsie and was also a youth leader for the Methodist Church. Larry &amp; Sandra were married 56 years before Sandra's passing in 2013. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Sandra Segatti and Cheryl Cleaver, and wife Sandra. Surviving are his son, Steve Comer and wife Julie of Rapid City, SD and daughters Susan Diehl and husband Rod of Longview, TX, Tammy Niehaus and husband TJ of Gilbert, AZ and Sarah Weisbrook and husband Mark of Bushnell, NE; ten grandchildren Krista Hadi, Eric Glunz, Matthew Weisbrook, Jaclyn Klinginsmith, Cody Diehl, Beau Diehl, Brad Weisbrook, Ryan Comer, Macy Diehl &amp; Nathan Comer; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jerry Cleaver; and many nieces and nephews. Kenard D. Knoll, 84, of North Platte, passed away February 12, 2022 at Centennial Park Retirement Village.&nbsp; He was born February 11, 1938 to George and Ruby (Kunkel) Knoll in Wellfleet. Kenard graduated from Curtis Ag High School in Curtis, Nebraska.&nbsp; He returned to the family ranch and worked with family.&nbsp; He married Fae Ackles in June of 1958 and to this union two children were born, Gayle and Mark.&nbsp; Kenard lived his entire life in the North Platte area and was a lifelong rancher in his heart and mind.&nbsp; He followed the stock market and had an interest in financial ways.

Marjorie Irene Houchin,96, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died February13, 2022 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born July17, 1925 in Beatrice, NE, daughter of Oswald Camille&nbsp;and Mary (Krivan)&nbsp; Nies. Marjorie grew up in the Lincoln and Beatrice area and attended schools there, graduating from Beatrice High School in 1943. She married Hugh Harlan Houchin on September 9,1943. They were stationed in Norfolk, VA while in the navy, and they made their first home at the Ft Wayne, IN at the Naval Base.&nbsp; After naval discharge, the couple continued to build a lifetime partnership. They moved to Nebraska in 1949. Hugh worked as a telephone lineman, then entered the ministry in 1953. Marj loved being a wife and mother. The couple had four children Hugh Jr., Linda, Joyce, and Todd. They lived in numerous Nebraska communities before settling in Gothenburg in 1969. Hugh and Marj served the Gothenburg United Methodist Church from 1969-1979 and the Lexington,NE and Topeka, KS Evangelical Free Churches. After retirement, Hugh and Marg wintered in south Texas, serving an RV Park church in addition to planting a Mexican Colonia fellowship in Reynosa, Mexico.

Survivors include daughters Linda (Melvin) Adams, Joyce (Bruce) Clark, and Todd (LuAnn) Houchin, 13 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren, special niece Linda Hubbard, along with numerous other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are step-sister Sonny, and half-siblings Butch, Karen, Doug, and Randy. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Harland Houchin, son, Hugh Houchin Jr, sister Norma Jean Nies, special niece Donna Markham, and her parents. Marjorie "Marj" Irene Houchin (1925-2022)

&nbsp; Thomas Snyder Yost of Maxwell, NE, passed away in Omaha following recent health complications on February 12, 2022, at the age of 89. Thomas was born in North Platte on September 21, 1932, the son of Harry and Nellie Snyder Yost.&nbsp; He grew up in the hills south of Maxwell and attended Box Elder Canyon School for eight years, Maxwell Public School for two years then Sutherland High School, which he graduated from in 1950. On October 25, 1953, Tom married Janice Young in Hershey and they lived on the Yost family farm.&nbsp; Tom worked on the farm until being drafted into the U.S. Army in October 1954. Following his honorable discharge in 1955 he returned to the farm to help his dad and continued farming until 1984.&nbsp; Tom then went to work for Lincoln County Department of Roads in the Maintenance Department until retiring in 2012.&nbsp; His retirement years were spent enjoying life and restoring tractors, Farmalls only! Tom was active in 4-H horse shows, was a licensed pilot, and proud member of the NRA.&nbsp; He also took care of the Plainview Cemetery for several years. He was a member of the Maxwell Baptist Church most of his life and attended Riverside Baptist Church in North Platte.&nbsp; Tom loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry; mother and stepfather, Nellie Snyder Yost and Frank Lydic; sons, Stephen and Stanley; and two brothers. Thomas Snyder Yost (1932-2022) 

Fred Roy Egleston was born to Wesley and Mary (Gatton) Egleston on April 4th, 1947 on good Friday in Winner, SD.&nbsp; He went to be with His Lord and Savior February 11, at the CHI St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, NE.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; As the second child of seven Fred spent his whole life on the place homesteaded by his grandfather, Fred B. Egleston.&nbsp; He attended Cody country school and graduated from White River High School in 1965.&nbsp; He also attended SDSU for one year.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Fred and Ardeth met when she was four and he was seven, but Ardeth was more interested it playing paper dolls with his sisters.&nbsp; They reconnected years later, in 1966 at a Christmas program at the same Cody school he attended and were married in 1968.&nbsp; &nbsp; Fred was devoted to his family always putting them before his own needs.&nbsp; They had three children, Angela, Roy and John.&nbsp; Fred was a loving, patient, nurturing husband and dad.&nbsp; He loved to tell stories and was always teaching a life lesson of some sort.&nbsp; He was adamant that his kids were not only raised in the church but taught by example.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Fred was the ultimate Grandpa; he adored his six grandkids.&nbsp;&nbsp; He always had time for a ride to see the cows.&nbsp;&nbsp; In later years, Zoe and Wes gave grandpa a new lease on life.&nbsp;&nbsp; Although his time with them was too short, it was so precious to him.&nbsp; Fred’s passion was the ranch life and all that it entailed.&nbsp; He was humbly proud of his legacy and that he was part of preserving the land.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He loved the cattle and never tired of coaxing a reluctant calf to nurse.&nbsp; He worked fervently to improve the herd and meet high standards he set for himself.&nbsp; He was never interested in “cutting back” or taking life a little easier.&nbsp; He always said he was content where he was and with what he was doing. Fred was always very community minded and began serving on the Cody Township board in 1968 and continued to the present.&nbsp; &nbsp;He was on the what was known as the Conservation District Board several years and was part of stared the yearly Rancher’s Workshops.&nbsp; He served on the White River School Board for 18 years. &nbsp;During his years on the board, he only missed one regular meeting.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He also held a seat on the Country Pride Board several years.&nbsp; He was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church and was a trustee for many years.&nbsp; Fred was a 32nd&nbsp;Degree Mason and member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he was the Worthy Patron.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He was invigorated by the challenges of the offices he held always looking at the big picture to take a proactive approach.&nbsp;&nbsp; Fred was a quiet, reflective man who was quick to listen and diplomatic when he spoke with wisdom.&nbsp; &nbsp;He never spoke ill of anyone, and offered support and encouragement at every opportunity.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He leaves his wife of 53 years, Ardeth, daughter, Angela (Tom) Buesing, sons Roy, and John (Sharon) and five grandchildren; Cydney Krogman, Justin and Destiny Egleston, and Zoe and Wesley Egleston.&nbsp; Six sisters: Naomi (Doug) Krogman, Mary (Tony) Perkins, Ruth (Jerry) Krough, Martha Forman, Winifred (Harley)Parson and Louise (Don) Loban.&nbsp; A host of nieces and nephews and cousins.&nbsp; A special cousin Dick Jans. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Mary, a grandson, Lane Krogman, and a brother-in-law Bob Forman.&nbsp; Brothers and Sister-in-Law Alan and Emma Johnson and John Johnson.&nbsp;

Fred was always very community minded and began serving on the Cody Township board in 1968 and continued to the present.&nbsp; &nbsp;He was on the what was known as the Conservation District Board several years and was part of stared the yearly Rancher’s Workshops.&nbsp; He served on the White River School Board for 18 years. &nbsp;During his years on the board, he only missed one regular meeting.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He also held a seat on the Country Pride Board several years.&nbsp; He was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church and was a trustee for many years.&nbsp; Fred was a 32nd&nbsp;Degree Mason and member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he was the Worthy Patron.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He was invigorated by the challenges of the offices he held always looking at the big picture to take a proactive approach.&nbsp;&nbsp; Fred was a quiet, reflective man who was quick to listen and diplomatic when he spoke with wisdom.&nbsp; &nbsp;He never spoke ill of anyone, and offered support and encouragement at every opportunity.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He leaves his wife of 53 years, Ardeth, daughter, Angela (Tom) Buesing, sons Roy, and John (Sharon) and five grandchildren; Cydney Krogman, Justin and Destiny Egleston, and Zoe and Wesley Egleston.&nbsp; Six sisters: Naomi (Doug) Krogman, Mary (Tony) Perkins, Ruth (Jerry) Krough, Martha Forman, Winifred (Harley)Parson and Louise (Don) Loban.&nbsp; A host of nieces and nephews and cousins.&nbsp; A special cousin Dick Jans. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Mary, a grandson, Lane Krogman, and a brother-in-law Bob Forman.&nbsp; Brothers and Sister-in-Law Alan and Emma Johnson and John Johnson.&nbsp;Funeral service for Fred Egleston age 74 of White River, SD will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 1:00 PM&nbsp;&nbsp; at the White River Event Center in White River, SD.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the White River Cemetery.&nbsp; A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16th&nbsp;at &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;6:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in White River.&nbsp; Mr. Egleston passed away on February 11th, 2022 in Grand Island, NE.

Charles Edward Stoner was born February 6, 1933 in Cherry Co. to Rollie Edward &amp; Mary Ann (Hoffman) Stoner. &nbsp;Charlie Stoner met Millie at a Quonset dance in Kilgore, NE. In 1953 they married and started his army tour. In 1957 they moved home and started ranching and started their family. Where five boys were born, Randy, Dale, infant son, Jerry and Mark. In July of 1957 they moved 40 miles south of Nenzel to the Taylor Ranch. In 1968 they moved back to Kilgore and expanded the Stoner Ranch. He also started his trucking business, hauling cattle.&nbsp; Charlie loved breaking horse and adopting wild mustangs and also broke them to ride.&nbsp; In his later year he enjoyed watching westerns, rodeos &amp; fox news.&nbsp; Charlie’s grandchildren and great grandchildren brought a lot of joy to his life.&nbsp; He was also interest in what they were doing.&nbsp;

Joseph Allen Spotanski (1952-2022)

Paul Sweeney, formerly of Cozad, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 91. Paul was born March 2, 1930 at Lexington, Nebraska to Bradley and Verna Sweeney. He was the 7th&nbsp;of 8 children. He attended a one-room school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Cozad High School, Cozad, Nebraska in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January 1949, where he served as a Photo Interpreter and spent 2 and ½ years in Japan. He was Honorably discharged in October 1952. In 1953 he entered employment in the U.S. Postal Service at the Cozad Post Office and served as a Letter Carrier until June 1979 and then transferred to the Scottsdale Arizona Post Office where he retired in 1985. He then was employed part time at a housing complex in Scottsdale, Arizona until his retirement in 2007.

Paul was married to LaDonna Carpenter, February 28, 1954 and raised their four children: Bill, Brian, Valorie and Brad.

Paul was baptized into Christ at the Cozad Church of Christ and later joined the Scottsdale Christian Church, and since has been a faithful member of the West Olive Church of Christ, Peoria, Arizona.

His parents, brothers Ray, Howard, Bill, Harold, and Ernie, his sisters Alene and Helen, and his wife LaDonna preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Bill (Sherene), Son Brian (Kathy), Daughter Valorie (Mike), Son Brad, twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Sweeney as well as many nieces and nephews.

Committal of Ashes will be at Cozad Cemetery at 10am on March 26, 2022, followed at 11 am by a Memorial Service at the Cozad Christian Church, 821 Ave F, Cozad, Nebraska.

Mabel Emma Meyer, 97, of Littleton, CO, formerly of Paxton and Ogallala, passed away on February 10, 2022 at the Libby Bortz Assisted Living Center in Littleton. She was born on July 18, 1924 to Phillip and Lillian (Kaeser) Boos in Sheboygan, WI. She attended school and graduated from high school in Sheboygan. On August 7, 1943 she married Darrold John Meyer at Sheboygan where they made their home. To this union four daughters were born; Catherine, Janet, Mary and Debbra. Mabel and Darrold lived in Sheboygan until 1953, when they moved to Denver, Colorado. The couple lived in Denver until 1973, when they moved to Paxton, NE. In 2006, she moved to Ogallala and then in 2010 back to Colorado to be near family. Mabel was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking, canning, baking and entering baking competition, reading and playing bingo. She loved being with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darrold J.Meyer in 2006 ; a brother, Harvey Boos; a sister, Helen Meyer; and a grand-daughter, Tammy Brown. Mabel is survived by her four daughters, Catherine (Gordon) Larson of Columbus, IN, Janet Lee (Richard) Huffman of Lakewood, CO, Mary (John) Byers of Fort Collins, CO, Debbra (Mark) Fry of Denver, CO; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Mabel E. Meyer (1924-2022)

&nbsp; Michael (Mike) Gene Leikam, also known as "Sidecar", passed away in Ogallala NE, on Thursday Feb. 3rd, 2022, at the age of 67. Michael was born on April 24, 1954 in Oberlin KS, to Fern and Ralph Leikam. &nbsp; &nbsp;Mike married Lori Watts in 1984, and out of that union came their daughter Marcia on September 8,1980. In 1989 he met Colleen Powers and her three children who he spent the rest of his life with. On April 29,1992 Mike welcomed his second daughter, Cassandra to the family. In 2010 Mike was diagnosed with bladder cancer, the beginning of COPD and Emphysema while he was working at Ogallala Ready Mix (ORM). He continued working until he could no longer climb in and out of his truck due to his breathing in 2016. Then in 2020 his health really took a turn for the worse and Mike was sent home for end of life care, where Mike fought long and hard for two years until his battle came to an end on February 3rd. Mike enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, reading, and watching all the old westerns on TV. He loved the outdoors, especially if he knew he could bring home something to his kids or grandkids. Mike was famous for bringing home all kinds of creatures, fossils, and rocks. Mike loved his dogs, reptiles, spiders and countless other bugs. After 2016 when Mike spent time at home he found a love for small hobbies such as wood burning, folding dollar bills, collecting, breeding and raising bugs. He loved riding motorcycles with his buddies in the Two-Wheel Posse from the old Sip and Sizzle bar. One of the family's favorite memories is when Mike would take the kids around to stores to buy Christmas gifts for all the other kids. After the toys were purchased, Mike and all his other motorcycle buddies would then deliver the toys to all the kids. &nbsp; Survivors are his spouse; Colleen Powers of Ogallala, NE, and his children; Marcia (Preston) Case of Venango, NE, Cassandra (Michael) Fresquez of Ogallala, NE, Steven (Lisa) Ballard of Ogallala, NE, Tonya Powers of Omaha, NE, Amanda (Craig) Canning of Ogallala, NE; he has 20 grandkids and seven great grandkids with one on the way; and his step mom, Gloria Leikam. &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents Fern and Ralph Leikam; Ralph and Helen Ballard, who treated Mike as one of their own; and one great-granddaughter Hadley Hegberg. &nbsp; The family has chosen cremation. A celebration of life will be held in Michael’s honor on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 11:00am - 2:00pm in the small building next to the exhibit hall at the Keith County fairgrounds.

Michael G. Leikam (1954-2022)

William James “Bill” Milleson, age 80, of North Platte, died February 11, 2022 at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; He was born on May 29, 1941 in North Platte to Glenn and Hazel (Hunter) Milleson.&nbsp; Bill graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1959 and has enjoyed the class luncheons through the years.&nbsp; After high school, Bill took a job as an over the road truck driver.&nbsp; He entered the US Army in 1964 and served in Vietnam.&nbsp; After his discharge in 1966, he returned to North Platte where he owed the Standard Oil bulk delivery service.&nbsp; He married Paula Huff, and to this union two sons were born, Randy and Brian.&nbsp; In 1975, they moved to Arizona.&nbsp; Bill returned to North Platte where he began selling cars for Watsons.&nbsp; Bill married Colleen Empfield on April 2, 1984 in Golden, CO.&nbsp; They resided in North Platte until moving to Kearney to be the General Manager at the Watson dealership there.&nbsp; Bill moved back to North Platte where he worked for the Bob Spady dealership for many years, even selling a few cars the last couple years for Janssens Auto.&nbsp; He was well known in the car business and had many loyal customers through the years. Bill was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, riding and selling all different brands through the years.&nbsp; He was active with the Legion Riders, Patriot Guard, and other riding groups in North Platte.&nbsp; He enjoyed dancing with Colleen at the Country, and his Class of 59’ lunches and coffee with his friends.&nbsp; Bill was known to never know a stranger, and was said that he became the light in whatever room he entered.&nbsp; He was very patriotic and was proud of his service and country.&nbsp; His family was the center of his life and took much pride in his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: daughters, Kylie (Dan) Ilten of Phillips, NE, Kellie (Matt) Harring of Lincoln; sons, Josh (Jennifer) Empfield of North Platte, Randy (Sarah) Milleson of Alliance, and Brian Milleson of North Platte; grandchildren, Kynzlie, Ty, Luke, and Liev; a sister, Bette James of Hoxie, KS; and a brother, Larry (Sharon) Milleson of San Diego, CA; and several other family members and many friends.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Colleen.&nbsp; A memorial has been established to the North Platte Legion Riders and online condolences can be made at adamsswanson.com.

 </figure>William James “Bill” Milleson, age 80, of North Platte, died February 11, 2022 at Great Plains Health.&nbsp; He was born on May 29, 1941 in North Platte to Glenn and Hazel (Hunter) Milleson.&nbsp; Bill graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1959 and has enjoyed the class luncheons through the years.&nbsp; After high school, Bill took a job as an over the road truck driver.&nbsp; He entered the US Army in 1964 and served in Vietnam.&nbsp; After his discharge in 1966, he returned to North Platte where he owed the Standard Oil bulk delivery service.&nbsp; He married Paula Huff, and to this union two sons were born, Randy and Brian.&nbsp; In 1975, they moved to Arizona.&nbsp; Bill returned to North Platte where he began selling cars for Watsons.&nbsp; Bill married Colleen Empfield on April 2, 1984 in Golden, CO.&nbsp; They resided in North Platte until moving to Kearney to be the General Manager at the Watson dealership there.&nbsp; Bill moved back to North Platte where he worked for the Bob Spady dealership for many years, even selling a few cars the last couple years for Janssens Auto.&nbsp; He was well known in the car business and had many loyal customers through the years. Kathren Ann (Trosper) Muehlenkamp, 76, of North Platte, Nebraska, died February 12, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at Great Plains Health in North Platte.&nbsp;&nbsp; Kathren was born August 19, 1945 in Hastings to Chester and Claribelle Mitchell. Kathy married Raymond McDowell and to this union they were blessed with four daughters. Later they divorced and she married Paul Trosper and she added two step-children to the family. After Paul passed away she married Henry (Hank) Muehlenkamp and to this marriage she gained four step-children. Throughout her life she worked at Grandpa’s Steakhouse.&nbsp; She later moved to Cozad where she worked at Monroe’s. When she married Paul, Kathy and the girls moved to Gothenburg. After Paul passed away Kathy married Henry and moved to North Platte where she resided. She loved her family and really enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved going on trike rides with Hank and going to Cody Park for Ice Cream. Camping and doing all kinds of crafts were also on her long list of things she loved to do.

Kathy is survived by her husband Henry Muehlenkamp of North Platte NE, Daughters Kay (Mike) Christensen of Kearney NE, Kelli (Charlie) Burkey of Lexington, NE, Tammy Garcia of Kearney NE, and Terri (Dave) Wilder of Elwood NE. Marcellene "Marcy" L. Johnson, age 78, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte from complications of COVID.&nbsp; She was born on March 14, 1943 in North Platte, Nebraska, daughter of Theodore "Ted" Maassen and Wilhemina "Mina" (Hagge) Maassen.

Marcy graduated from Hershey High School in Hershey, Nebraska in 1961.&nbsp; She married her high school sweetheart, Gene Johnson, on January 6, 1962 in North Platte.&nbsp; Marcy did daycare for the Jim and Diane Ostermeyer children while raising her own two children.&nbsp; As a busy mom, she helped with 4-H and sporting events for her two kids, Brenda and Mitch.&nbsp; Later in life, she was the right-hand help to Gene in managing 6th Dimension Apartment Complex, and also worked for a time at the North Platte Pawn Shop.&nbsp; She was a life-long member of Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and playing cards.&nbsp; Above all, she loved her family fiercely, especially her grandkids, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Gene; daughter, Brenda (Theron) Jackson of Firestone, Colorado; son, Mitch (Dana Dee) Johnson of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren, Kaylee (Travis) Dietz, Austin (Becca) Jackson, and Jeron Johnson; great-grandson, Hunter Alan Jackson; brother, Bill (Judy) Maassen of Hershey, Nebraska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don (Joan) Johnson of Hershey, Nebraska and Peggy Chaney of Lincoln, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ted and Mina Maassen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nick and Ellen Johnson; infant sister, Sondra Maassen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Lyle) White, Lyle (Janet) Johnson, and Bill Chaney.

Blakeman, age 80, went home to be with the Lord and her one and only love, Ted, on Thursday, February 10, 2022. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Shirley was born to Ernest and Irene Mason on June 9, 1941, in North Platte and grew up with six siblings.&nbsp; As a teenager, Shirley worked downtown at The Tom-Tom Coffee Shop and Hoover's Jewelry Store. When she was 19 years old, she met the love of her life, Theodore E. Blakeman.&nbsp; &nbsp;They dated a few months before he was deployed overseas, but&nbsp;their love continued through love letters.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On May 20, 1962, Shirley and Ted were united in marriage at the First Lutheran Church in North Platte. In this union she was blessed with two beautiful, young daughters, Carrie and Jenny, and together, Shirley and Ted had three more children, Ted, Jr., Sheri and Troy. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;After raising five beautiful children Shirley went back to work. She worked for many years in the clothing department at Herberger's but had to retire early to care for her husband who was terminally ill. Along with caring for Ted, Shirley volunteered as a Foster Grandparent and worked at Buffalo Elementary, Hall School and Our Redeemer Lutheran School. She was affectionately known as "Grandma B" and loved what she did! &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Shirley was baptized a member of the Berean Church and all throughout her life, she had a strong faith in God that rippled throughout her entire family. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Blakeman, Sr.; her parents, Ernest and Irene Mason; brother, Bob Mason; in-laws, Ira and&nbsp;Donna Blakeman; son-in-law, Ernie Naranjo; and great-grandson, T.J. Shirley J. Blakeman  (1941-2022)

Cecil Lincoln Simon, age 90 of North Platte, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his three daughters and other family members who helped with his loving care.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cecil was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.&nbsp; He truly loved and cared about his family.&nbsp; And was loved by them, in return.&nbsp; He will truly be missed by his family and those who knew him well.

Cecil was born at home, February 12, 1931 in Scottsbluff, NE to Edward C. Simon and Grace May (Roberts) Simon.&nbsp; He grew up in the Scottsbluff area working with his father in the house moving business; Edward Simon and Sons.&nbsp; Their business was scattered across Nebraska, Wyoming and other states. He worked for his father until he joined the Army in 1949. Cecil served in the military branch of the US Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War.&nbsp; He was based in Baltimore, Maryland. Private E-1 After returning home he met his lovely wife, Dorothy Jean (Leider) Simon, and they were married April 17, 1955.&nbsp; Cecil was asked by his older brother to join him in his construction company endeavors in 1957.&nbsp; Cecil accepted the offer and they moved to North Platte, NE with two of their daughters and one on the way.&nbsp; Cecil became one of the Vice-Executives of the James E. Simon Construction Co which expanded to several states.&nbsp; His favorite aspect of working for Simon's was running heavy equipment and teaching personnel how to do things right the first time.&nbsp; He was a hard worker and felt everyone should do the same. If you had a mechanical problem he was the guy to call.&nbsp; Cecil had an amazing talent of designing equipment and gadgets and making them work.&nbsp; He often spoke about the employees of the James E. Simon Construction Co and how much he appreciated their loyalty and hard work. Of all of Cecil's talents, not only did he play a good game of golf, but he wrote poetry and was a great storyteller about his life experiences.&nbsp; It was always a joy to sit and listen to him talk about his younger days.&nbsp; There was always a learning lesson to follow each story.&nbsp; After he retired in 1995 he enjoyed golfing everyday and caring for his lake home.&nbsp; He also enjoyed meeting the gang at the coffee place where his usual friends showed up to talk about the latest things going on in North Platte or he told one of his stories.&nbsp; Cecil was very partial to his little brother, Eddie, who had Down Syndrome.&nbsp; They had a very special relationship.&nbsp; Cecil would take him wherever he went.&nbsp; They always went for coffee with the gang, maybe a quick stop at the Fort Cody Souvenir Shop or took Eddie to drive the golf cart.&nbsp; So many fond memories of these two together.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cecil was preceded in death by his wife (Dorothy), both parents, his brothers; Jim, Kenneth and wife (Rita), Robert and wife (Inge), John "J.B", and Eddie.&nbsp; His oldest sister Esther and husband Ralph Johnston.&nbsp; Brother-in-law, Robert Lofing (Edna May) and Audrey Simon.&nbsp; Also, nephews: Stephen Simon, Greg Simon, Rick Simon and Howard (Howie) Simon.&nbsp;&nbsp; Cecil is survived by his 3 daughters; Christine J. Simon, Vickie G. Hardenbergh (Vance) and Jennifer A.  </figure>Cecil Lincoln Simon, age 90 of North Platte, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his three daughters and other family members who helped with his loving care.&nbsp;&nbsp;Cecil was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.&nbsp; He truly loved and cared about his family.&nbsp; And was loved by them, in return.&nbsp; He will truly be missed by his family and those who knew him well.Cecil was born at home, February 12, 1931 in Scottsbluff, NE to Edward C. Simon and Grace May (Roberts) Simon.&nbsp; He grew up in the Scottsbluff area working with his father in the house moving business; Edward Simon and Sons.&nbsp; Their business was scattered across Nebraska, Wyoming and other states. He worked for his father until he joined the Army in 1949. Cecil served in the military branch of the US Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War.&nbsp; He was based in Baltimore, Maryland. Cecil Simon (1931-2022)

Glenda E. Thomas of Cozad passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Emerald Care and Rehab at the age of 68. Glenda was born May 16, 1953 in Lexington, Nebraska to Keith and Violet (Martin) Eggleston. She graduated from Oconto High School. Following graduation, Glenda married Dean Thomas in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with two children, Bradley and Kimberly. Glenda worked as a CNA and dietary aid in various care homes in the Oconto area. She had a fondness for animals, especially her dogs and horses. Glenda's most treasured times were spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and remembered with love. 

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her children, Brad (Shawna) Thomas of Sumner and Kim (Micky) Linder of Cozad; grandchildren, Kisha Thomas of Cozad, Riggin Flies of Sumner and&nbsp; Riata Thomas of Sumner; brother, Dennis (Connie) Eggleston of Oconto; nephews, Jayson (Dani) Eggleston of Oconto and Clint (Tess Linner)&nbsp; Eggleston of Oconto; and many other relatives and extended family.

Memorials are suggested to the family in her name for later designation. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel. Glenda Evelyn Thomas (1953-2022)

Leola Helen Alberts, age 96, longtime resident of Palisade, NE passed away on February 9, 2022 at Brookestone Garden in Kearney, NE. Leola was born August 3, 1925 in McCook, NE to parents Edward J and Anna (Alhert) Wittwer.&nbsp; She was one of five siblings who grew up in southwest Nebraska, graduating from Hayes County High School in 1943. Following high school, Leola began teaching elementary school at a country school in Hayes County. On June 18, 1946, Leola married Elmer August Alberts in Culbertson, NE.&nbsp; Leola enjoyed her new role as homemaker and together with Elmer, raised four children on a farm five mile northeast of Palisade, NE.&nbsp; In 1989, Leola and Elmer moved to Palisade, where Leola resided until moving to Kearney.&nbsp; Leola was baptized in the Blackwood Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade.&nbsp; She later attended, and was also a member of, the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Culbertson.&nbsp;

Leola was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Alberts; son, Kirwin Alberts; brother, Art Wittwer; two sisters, Arletta Hunkins and Gladys Brandt; and twin sister, Leona Lawson.&nbsp; Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Byron (Debbie) Alberts of Palisade, Janice (Gary) Sines of Jefferson City, MO and Sherry (Wayne) Larson of Lincoln, NE; eleven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Services will be held February 14th at 10:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson, with visitation the previous evening at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will be immediately following the service.

George L. Baker, age 72, of Culbertson, NE passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE. Following high school, George enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country from October 14, 1969 to August 10, 1984.&nbsp; He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded a defense service medal, combat infantry badge, parachute badge, Vietnam service medal, republic of Vietnam campaign medal, and the Vietnam cross of gallantry with palm.&nbsp; While stationed in Italy for five years he also received the following awards, Army commendation medal, Army service ribbon, and overseas service ribbon. On July 9, 1977, George married the love of his life, Janet (Howell) Baker in Colorado Springs, CO.&nbsp; Together they raised three children.&nbsp;&nbsp; George enjoyed drag racing and raced on the Army Team while in the service.&nbsp; He loved old cars and owned several Corvettes.&nbsp; His love of speed earned him several speeding tickets over the years.&nbsp; He was an Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed collecting and selling gold, riding horses, studying history and reading.&nbsp; George lived in Italy for five years and in his spare time he restored furniture and dabbled in interior design.&nbsp; He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.&nbsp;&nbsp;

George was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Francis Stigall, Jane Smith and Linda Young; as well as his brother, Buddy Baker. Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Janet Baker of Culbertson; son, George (Heather) Baker, Jr. of Stokesdale, NC; two daughters, Kimberly (Mike) Gessell of Claremore, OK and Adriann (Spencer) Smith of McCook; two brothers, John (Shirley) Baker and Glen (Angel) Baker, all of Kernersville, NC; sister, Brenda Lane of King, NC; ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of extended family members.&nbsp;&nbsp;

George L. Baker (1949-2022)

Rosalyn Rae Erickson, age 87, of McCook, NE passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE. Rosie was born January 23, 1935 in Bonetrail, ND to parents Adolph and Helen (Fougner) Nelson.&nbsp; She was one of nine children who grew up on a farm near Baudette, MN, living first in a two-story log cabin and later moving into a more modern house.&nbsp; She helped work the farm milking cows and separating the cream to sell, salting pork and canning goods for sale to the grocery, working the potato fields to buy clothing, sheering sheep, picking berries, harvesting hazelnuts and more.&nbsp; Rosie attended a one-room country school for eight years and then attended and graduated from Lake of the Woods High School in 1952, after which she moved to Minneapolis, MN and enrolled in Northwestern Bible College. Perhaps the most significant moment in Rosie’s life took place on January 1, 1954 when she attended a Billy Graham crusade at the Minneapolis City Auditorium.&nbsp; There an invitation was extended to believe in and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.&nbsp; Rosie responded by giving her heart and life to Christ. Rosie married the love of her life, Rev. Harold Allen Erickson on June 26, 1959 at the Powderhorn Park Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN.&nbsp; The two entered into ministry shortly thereafter serving Minnesota churches in Round Prairie, LaPorte, Detroit Lakes, Fosston, &nbsp;Brainerd and Cushing.&nbsp; Their ministry also extended to Christian camping at Camp Joy, Camp Lebanon, and Camp Jim, all in Minnesota.&nbsp; Rosie also shared in and led many ministries over the years including Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School, Good News Clubs, Sunday School, Youth Camp Outs and Bible Studies. To the union of Rosie and Harold four children were born: Mark, Marla, Marshall and Marcy Jo.&nbsp; The couple was also blessed with numerous foster children over the years, inviting into their home and raising 18 boys and girls. Throughout her life Rosie was employed in many different capacities:&nbsp; Honeywell (stenographer), Fosston Community Hospital (bookkeeper) and Lutheran Social Services (support staff for developmentally disabled) to name a few.

Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Erickson; three sisters, Bernadine Saline, Ardella Saline and Donna McWilliams; and three brothers, Jasper Nelson, Harvey Nelson and a brother who died in infancy. Those left to celebrate Rosie’s life include her children, Mark (Rosanne) Erickson of Lengby, MN, Marla (Tommy) Hardcastle of Lucas, KY, Marshall (Teresa) Erickson of McCook, NE, Marcy Jo (John) Fenske of Owatonna, MN and Edward (Tomi) Marotske of Dumfries, VA; brother, LaVerne Nelson of Escondido, CA; sister, Janice Sadler of Sterling, AK; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends.&nbsp;

In lieu of memorial contributions to any specific cause, you may send a gift in Rosie’s name to a Christian ministry of your choosing: charity, local church, world mission, missionary, summer camp, crisis center, food pantry, relief organization. Perhaps the most significant moment in Rosie’s life took place on January 1, 1954 when she attended a Billy Graham crusade at the Minneapolis City Auditorium.&nbsp; There an invitation was extended to believe in and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.&nbsp; Rosie responded by giving her heart and life to Christ. Rosie married the love of her life, Rev. Harold Allen Erickson on June 26, 1959 at the Powderhorn Park Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN.&nbsp; The two entered into ministry shortly thereafter serving Minnesota churches in Round Prairie, LaPorte, Detroit Lakes, Fosston, &nbsp;Brainerd and Cushing.&nbsp; Their ministry also extended to Christian camping at Camp Joy, Camp Lebanon, and Camp Jim, all in Minnesota.&nbsp; Rosie also shared in and led many ministries over the years including Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School, Good News Clubs, Sunday School, Youth Camp Outs and Bible Studies. To the union of Rosie and Harold four children were born: Mark, Marla, Marshall and Marcy Jo.&nbsp; The couple was also blessed with numerous foster children over the years, inviting into their home and raising 18 boys and girls. Throughout her life Rosie was employed in many different capacities:&nbsp; Honeywell (stenographer), Fosston Community Hospital (bookkeeper) and Lutheran Social Services (support staff for developmentally disabled) to name a few.Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Erickson; three sisters, Bernadine Saline, Ardella Saline and Donna McWilliams; and three brothers, Jasper Nelson, Harvey Nelson and a brother who died in infancy. Those left to celebrate Rosie’s life include her children, Mark (Rosanne) Erickson of Lengby, MN, Marla (Tommy) Hardcastle of Lucas, KY, Marshall (Teresa) Erickson of McCook, NE, Marcy Jo (John) Fenske of Owatonna, MN and Edward (Tomi) Marotske of Dumfries, VA; brother, LaVerne Nelson of Escondido, CA; sister, Janice Sadler of Sterling, AK; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends.&nbsp;In lieu of memorial contributions to any specific cause, you may send a gift in Rosie’s name to a Christian ministry of your choosing: charity, local church, world mission, missionary, summer camp, crisis center, food pantry, relief organization. Donald O'Neil, longtime resident of rural Wauneta, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Perkins County Community Hospital, Grant, Nebraska. Don was 77 years of age. Pamela Sue Ridlen was born May 9, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Larry M. and Hertha (Ahrendsen) Holien. Pam grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and graduated from William J. Palmer High School in 1972. That summer, while attended one of the many rodeos, she met her soon to be husband. On November 17, 1972, Pam was united in marriage to David M. Ridlen, in Colorado Springs. In the spring of 1973, the couple moved to Imperial, Nebraska. Pam worked at John Deere, D&amp;G Liquors, Laker’s Delight, the Imperial Manor, Dundy County Sheriff’s Office and the Chase County Sheriff’s Office. Pam was also well-known cake decorator. For 47 years, she brought smiles, tears, and laughs, to many with her unmatched frosting and crazy candles. Pam was a 37-year member of the Imperial EMS Department and received many awards during her time there. She was also a member of the Community Players for several years while enjoying co-ed softball games at Enders, especially the snowball games. Pam loved her music: Alabama, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Alan Jackson. She enjoyed car racing, bowling, and rodeo. She especially enjoyed working with her sister, Pat, on the Imperial EMS Haunted House for many years. Pam loved her family and gave all her support to whatever they were involved in, but most of all, she loved her cats. Pam was known for her loving disposition, warm heart, and the long blonde reddish hair that never faded. Pam passed away Tuesday evening, February 8, 2022, at the Haxtun Hospital, Haxtun, Colorado. Pam was 67 years of age. Pamela S. Ridlen (1954-2022)

WILLIAM RICHARD KLINE, 70, of Grant, NE, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the Imperial Manor in Imperial, NE. Rich was born on January 13, 1952, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Merwyn and Angela Anne (Sandahl) Kline. Rich and his family moved often in his early youth, spending time in St Joseph, MO, West Des Moines, IA, Kansas City MO, St. Louis, MO and Wakefield, NE where he attended and graduated from high school. Many of his formative memories involved his brothers, cousins and friends in rural Wakefield and playing sports as a Wakefield Trojan. After high school, while attending UNL, Rich received an appointment to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, from which he graduated on June 4, 1975. Shortly after graduating, Rich married the girl he'd loved since the beginning of high school, Mary E. Peterson. Rich successfully completed Army Ranger school and spent time serving his country throughout America and Europe. Rich and Mary were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer, born in Stuttgart, Germany, and later Tiffany, born at Fort Riley, Kansas. Rich moved to Papillion and worked in the early 1980s as an Army recruiter and ROTC instructor at Creighton University. He made Papillion-LaVista his community of great friends. He enjoyed supporting kids from all area sports and activities. Following his discharge from active duty, Rich continued his line of service with the Veterans Administration. He worked for the VA from 1992 until retirement. Until the day he died, he loved serving and talking to veterans. In the past ten years, he's enjoyed western Nebraska. Rich had many talents. He was a gifted athlete; starring in year-round sports, his favorite being baseball. He played at Army and later for Omaha teams, playing for nearly thirty years throughout the metro and in Midwest tournaments; finally giving up the grand game when his health (cancer and eventually a brain tumor) forced him to become a spectator. He loved the game and the brotherhood. Rich was also gifted with an engaging personality, which allowed him to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds. Perhaps a testament to this uncanny ability was the variety of nicknames he garnered from his many social circles; some knew him only as Duda, Captain, Hound-Dog, Cochise, and Papa Rich; others knew him as all of the above. He had an endearing way about him that was authentic, and he made people feel like they mattered. He was steady, forgiving, and sometimes positive to a fault. His quick wit and one-liners were a hallmark, some of which you would miss if you were not paying attention. He loved competition, friends, road trips, and telling stories. He didn't know a stranger and thrived on the unexpected. All of these things did not compare to the love he had for his family. He couldn't wait to car pool his kids, grandkids and their friends not just in Omaha or Nebraska but across many states. Automobiles were a passion and he enjoyed driving them, often test driving the latest models. Dealers were impressed with his knowledge and would invite him to take her for a spin. Rich beat the odds with many health challenges. Rich's life changed dramatically when his qualities of physical and cognitive strength began to diminish. But his loving heart and vibrant spirit were strong to the end. Rich leaves a beautiful legacy of love and memories that light up the dark moments of grief like the stadium lights on a twilight ball field; as if to invite everyone to keep playing ball. William was preceded in death by daughter, Jennifer E. Welch; parents, and stepfather, Robert Busby. Survivors include daughter, Tiffany Long and her son, Magnus Long of Grant; son-in-law, Dan Welch; grandchildren, Johanna "JoJo" Epp, Madeline Epp, Kennedy "Kate" Epp, Wyatt Welch, and Barrett Welch of Elkhorn; siblings, Kim (Debra) Kline of Papillion, Jono (Joni) Kline of Omaha, stepbrothers Mike (Lou) Busby of Alaska and Kirk (LuJuan) Busby of Colorado; along with many nieces, nephews, beloved cousins, other relatives, and friends.
