June Ann (Carter) Goad, age 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 20, 2021.&nbsp; She passed away peacefully at her home in McCook surrounded by her loving family.&nbsp;&nbsp;June was born in North East, MD on June 5, 1939, to William and Beatrice (Gorrell) Carter.&nbsp;&nbsp;On December 8, 1955, June was united in marriage to the love of her life, Frank W. Goad at St. Mary Ann’s Episcopal Church in North East, MD. After 57 loving years of marriage, Frank preceded her in death on May 13, 2013.&nbsp; June was a devoted wife and loving mother.&nbsp; She was a woman of great faith and a prayer warrior.&nbsp; June was active in her church in Maryland, Delaware and in McCook.&nbsp;&nbsp;She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible school, enjoyed visitation, witnessing and leading others to the Lord as well as many other church activities. June babysat for many young children throughout her lifetime and was known to them all as “Mom-Mom”.&nbsp; She enjoyed working in her flower beds and loved her flowers, plants, and gardening. June loved reading, studying her Bible, and doing jigsaw puzzles.&nbsp; Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; June’s favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas; she loved seeing all the kids at Halloween and even dressed up to pass out the candy.&nbsp; Christmas was her absolute favorite as it celebrated the birth of Jesus. June Ann Goad (1939-2021)

Janice Esther O’Neil was the third daughter born to Bernard and Dorothy O’Neil in Imperial, Nebraska, on December 19, 1939. In her formative years, Jan grew up in Wauneta, Nebraska, and on the family farm located on the north divide. She was an active young lady, and was one of Wauneta’s first lifeguards in the 1950s. Jan was very athletic and loved being active, always trying all sorts of new things. Jan met Tony Cribelli in the fall of 1958 at the Neuman Center on the campus of Northern Colorado University. Tony was one of the very first people she met her freshmen year of school where she double majored in math and music. Music was a common bond between Tony and Jan. Jan went on to win the highly coveted “Cline” award. This award went to the most outstanding member of the University band. She was the first woman to win this trophy. Tony and Jan were one of the first couples married in the newly built St. John’s Catholic Church in Wauneta on June 22, 1962. The diamond necklace that Jan is wearing now was given to her by Tony as a wedding gift the night before the ceremony. This upcoming summer would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Adam Cribelli was born 10 months later in April of 1963, and Laurie was born 11 months after that in March of 1964. The couple made their home on the front range of Colorado where Tony taught music and Jan was primarily a homemaker, but also enjoyed operating a small yarn store and teaching knitting lessons. The family moved to “the family farm” in Wauneta in the summer of 1972. Jan moved back into the same farmhouse she had been raised in. From here, Jan was the glue of the family farm. She did everything. Not only was she the leader of the household, she also served as the farm’s hired hand. Jan raised a garden so the kids could enter produce at the county fair. She scooped corn and pulled calves. The whole family enjoyed monthly pitch parties with the rural neighborhood. Jan taught school for many years with a special passion for helping the kids that struggled in math, but her top priority was always the family and the farm. Jan was famous for meals that she would prepare for the whole crew on branding days as well as dinners that she took to the field during harvest. She had a love for needlecraft and entered several ribbon winning items at the State Fair. The people that she helped through her life is on a list too long to be counted. Her fun attitude was contagious and she never spoke a mean word about anyone. Everyone loved her. As grandkids joined the family, she became renowned for her playtime. As a grandma, she was not afraid of making childhood forts with the boys in the woods as well as leading an old fashioned water fight. Even in her older years, it was common for her to ask her family, “What have you been doing for fun?” While Alzheimer’s disease robbed Jan of some of her memories, it did not take away her spirit. She was always curious on the well-being of her husband, children, grand-children and even great grand-children. Jan was hard on a supply of chocolate and she especially enjoyed a bowl of ice cream! Jan died in Imperial, Nebraska, on October 21, 2021. She passed peacefully with Tony and her children at her side. She had a tremendous amount of love in her heart and was a blessing to us all. Duck never knew a stranger and no matter where he went, he would talk to anyone and everyone even if he didn’t know them. Duck is survived by his wife, Verna; children, Roger and wife, Sarah White of Oshkosh, John White of Oshkosh, Kristine and husband, Nicholas Cyrus of Oshkosh, and Sharla and husband, Connor O’Rourke of Harrisburg; 5 grandchildren, Trae Brown and girlfriend, Rhonda of Chappell, Paeton Brown of Ogallala, Beau and Brock White of Oshkosh, and Hunter Cyrus of Oshkosh; brothers, Jim and wife, Judy White of Lincoln, Buzz and wife, Sylvia White of Lincoln, and Richard and wife Corky White of Bridgeport; sisters, Bonnie Franklin of Bridgeport and June Waltman of Oshkosh; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. George R. Perlinger (1923-2021)

Juan&nbsp;Baeza was born October 10, 2001, at Hastings, Nebraska, and went to heaven on October 23, 2021, following an automobile accident outside of Cozad, Nebraska. He was 20 years old. Juan spent most of his life in Greeley, Colorado, then moved to Wellfleet, Nebraska, in 2015. He attended school and played on the football team at Maywood High School. After graduating, Juan attended Central Community College in Columbus and earned his welding certificate. Juan then returned to Wellfleet to work for Tanner and Bob Lemon. Juan liked going to country music concerts and rodeos and even tried bull riding, which he loved. Juan was a good son, brother, cousin and friend. He especially liked spending quality time with those he loved. Juan was taken much too soon and will forever be loved and missed. He leaves behind his family which includes his mother and stepfather, Aracely and Abel Esparza, of Wellfleet; brother, Santiago Esparza, stepbrothers, Abel and Elias Esparza, and sister, Iris Baeza; his grandparents, Tomas and Carmen Morales Parra; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family and friends. Services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Juan spent most of his life in Greeley, Colorado, then moved to Wellfleet, Nebraska, in 2015. He attended school and played on the football team at Maywood High School. After graduating, Juan attended Central Community College in Columbus and earned his welding certificate. Juan then returned to Wellfleet to work for Tanner and Bob Lemon. Juan liked going to country music concerts and rodeos and even tried bull riding, which he loved. Juan was a good son, brother, cousin and friend. He especially liked spending quality time with those he loved. Juan was taken much too soon and will forever be loved and missed. He leaves behind his family which includes his mother and stepfather, Aracely and Abel Esparza, of Wellfleet; brother, Santiago Esparza, stepbrothers, Abel and Elias Esparza, and sister, Iris Baeza; his grandparents, Tomas and Carmen Morales Parra; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family and friends. Services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Celebrant Father Bernard Lorenz. Burial will follow in the Wellfleet Cemetery. William H. “Bill” Negley returned to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 21, 2021. Bill was born June 7, 1939, to Seth and Eva (Hayhurst) Negley in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; He attended North Platte Schools and served in the United States Army stationed in Germany.&nbsp; On his return to North Platte, he held various jobs.&nbsp; He worked for his father in Negley Liquor Store, was a heavy equipment operator for Nebraska Department of Roads, and owned and operated Platte Radiator Service in North Platte.&nbsp; He then hired on at Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman and continued his railroad career by becoming a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; In Alliance he met his wife, Sharon.&nbsp; Bill and Sharon were married in Alliance on June 18, 1977.&nbsp; They relocated their home to North Platte and went into business as Custom Craft Sign Company for 35 years.&nbsp; In later years he expanded his businesses to include Dimensional Products, Wind Dancer Properties, and several partnerships. NebraskalandDays, Buffalo Bill Rodeo, and Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant were a special part of Bill’s life.&nbsp; He began volunteering the use of his sign crane to help install the Winston Rodeo Scoreboard in 1983, served on the NLD Board of Directors for six years, and was an active member of Cody Calvary.&nbsp; Bill was the recipient of the Dale Studley Award in 2013. &nbsp; He was an avid water skier in his younger years and loved boating, camping, hunting, fishing, and watching Nebraska football.&nbsp; Upon retirement from the sign company, Bill and Sharon began traveling in their 5th wheel and wintering in Mesa, Arizona.&nbsp; He always said he was living the best of two lives-being with friends in warm Arizona in the winter and being with friends in warm Nebraska in the summer. Bill had a deep faith in Christ and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Through his life he served on many church boards and committees.&nbsp; He believed in the saving grace and mercy of Christ and looked forward to being at home with his Lord.&nbsp;&nbsp; Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward Negley; special Uncle and Aunt, Fred and Opal Meyer. William "Bill" Negley (1939-2021)

&nbsp; Mayda J. Bartlett began her journey on October 18, 2021 in Pierre, SD surrounded by her beloved family. Mayda Jean Brink was born in Rosebud, SD at the Rosebud Indian Hospital to Fred and Ruth Brink on October 29th, 1952. Mayda was the third of four children from Fred and Ruth. Her siblings are Nordine, Sharon, and Robbyn. She grew up on the family farm by the Big White River in north Mellette County SD. She loved riding her horses, Silver and Lady, and doing riding tricks, which included standing on her horse’s back and racing with her! She attended Okaton school 1st grade through 8th grade. She attended her freshman year at Murdo. She had fond memories of riding on the basket (cable car) to cross the river. Sometimes, the river would be really full, and the bottom of the basket would touch the water. It would go flying across the river, and stop in the middle. Nordine, Sharon and Mayda would have to pull themselves across the rest of the river. They would then climb in the pick up and drive to school in Okaton. She attended her sophomore and junior year at White River, where she met Ted Bartlett. She met him at a dance, when he sat down beside her, while sitting on her skirt. She wasn’t able to move, but didn’t want to say anything! They were married on Jan 19th, 1970. They had 4 children, Tevis, Onna, Collin and Tj Martin. They lived in a variety of places, such as Fort Hood, Texas, where Tevis was born while Ted was stationed there while in the Army. They also spent a year in Germany, while Ted was stationed there in the army, when Tevis was 2 years old. They returned to White River when Ted left the Army. Onna was born and they lived in a white house on the corner of the White River School. Collin was born, and then they moved to their current house in Horse Creek when Collin was 11 months old. Tj Martin was born a day after their 10th anniversary. She lived in Horse Creek until her death. Mayda completed her GED while raising her children. Mayda first started her teaching career in education at the Headstart level in White River as a teacher aide at 19 years of age. She fell in love with kids and teaching and kept on going in the field of education from there! The Follow Through Program in Kindergarten in the White River School District was her next experience and she took classes to become a teacher. As her children grew up, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Black Hills State University in the spring of 1980. She completed most of her classes at Sinte Gleska University in Mission, SD. In the fall of 1982, she continued her education in the Administrative Program at Penn State University at State College, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, Mayda’s first teaching job was 5th grade at Crazy Horse School. Her lifelong love of horses continued and she bought a horse named Foxy with her first teacher’s paycheck! She taught 5th grade for 2 years at Crazy Horse School. After being stranded in a blizzard and having to walk to a house near the road and stay at a stranger’s house overnight, she decided to work closer to home. Mayda then worked at the White River Middle School. She taught 6, 7, &amp; 8 grade, Math, Science and Social Studies. She taught Onna those classes her 8th grade year. Mayda had made the decision to change schools every 2 years to learn more but when she came to Rosebud Elementary, she felt she “came home” and had stayed for 28 years! Although 5th grade was her favorite grade level to teach, her new favorite was 3rd grade. Mayda meshed her love of kids and her love for teaching to create motivating projects to help students learn more and to foster thinking skills. During those years, she had fond memories of her haunted reading centers, where she had her students create a space within the classroom where each group read a book to the K-1 grade, 2-3 grade and 4-5 grade classes. Mayda loved to dress as a witch, with green face paint! She had the witch cackle down pat! Her students also loved cooking with Mayda, as they would double and triple recipes for sugar cookies and Indian tacos to practice their math skills. She also took them on field trips to the Black Hills to learn how to put up tipis, and learn about their Native culture. Another fun project was to write their own autobiographies. Throughout the years, Mayda taught 5th grade, 4th and 5th grade combination class, and eventually ended her teaching career teaching 3rd grade. She has had a lot of students throughout the years, which included teaching Tevis in Headstart, Onna in 8th grade, and her grandchildren, Shalita, Tavish, Tiara, and Nile, at Rosebud Elementary. Once she retired, she was able to teach her great grandson Jaxon for his 1st grade year. Along with teaching, Mayda had a passion for horses. She grew up on them, and passed on her love of horses to her kids. Upon returning from Penn State, she bought her 1st horse, Foxy. That was the start of her herd of horses. She has had many fun horses along the way, and had a passion for watching her kids rodeo, and then watching her grandchildren rodeo. She loved traveling to the different rodeos, which took her to Iowa for Jr high and High School Rodeos, Gallup, New Mexico for Jr High School Nationals, Wyoming for High School Nationals and College Rodeos, Colorado for Little Britches Nationals, and Oklahoma for Little Britches Nationals, throughout the years. Her current herd has 14 horses. Each one of them has a special relationship with Mayda. Mayda was an avid reader. She would read anything non-fiction that she could get her hands on. She loved to learn new things, and reading would teach her new things. She loved to learn new ways of healing herself and others. She believed in natural, traditional and alternative medicine. She often shared her healing touch with family friends and especially her horses. Her nickname is the Horse Doctor! Once she retired, Mayda combined her passion for teaching and love of horses through educating kids to ride and care for horses at the Sinte Gleska University Ranch. She was still working there upon her death. Mayda was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruth Brink, Sister Wilma Schowalter, Brother Clifford Brink, and son Tj Martin Eliot Bartlett. Mayda Bartlett (1952-2021)

Harry Kenneth Johnston was born January 14, 1952 in Arnold, NE to Harry and Naomi (Dishman) Johnston.&nbsp; He was the oldest of three children.&nbsp; Known by Ken or Kenny, he attended grade school at Hawley Flats District #3, and graduated from Brewster High School in 1970.&nbsp; When Ken was young, he enjoyed fixing fence with his father, playing with toy trucks, fixing cars, and taking care of his vehicles.&nbsp; &nbsp;MaLinda Sue (Zimmerman) Johnston was born in Broken Bow, NE to Dale and DeLilah (Saner) Zimmerman on January 4, 1955.&nbsp; She was born 6 minutes after arriving at the hospital.&nbsp; Known by Sue, she was the second of five children. Sue attended grade school at Hoosier Valley near Anselmo, NE until 3rd grade, and finished at Halsey-Dunning Elementary.&nbsp; In her younger years, she enjoyed playing outside, riding horses, and helping in the hayfield sweeping hay at the ranch outside of Dunning, NE. She graduated from Sandhills High School in 1973.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, Ken worked at Bowen’s Mobil Station in Dunning, NE, and Dan Norris’ machine shop in Brewster, NE.&nbsp; Ken and Sue began dating in June 1972, while Sue was still in high school.&nbsp; After graduation, Sue worked as a seamstress in Grand Island for a short time. Ken &amp; Sue were united in marriage on October 28, 1973 at the Seventh-day Adventist church in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; The couple resided in Ainsworth, NE after getting married and Ken worked for Dude Daniels Manufacturing, driving a semi, and Sue made curlers and provided in-home daycare.&nbsp; They lived there until 1979, when they moved their family to Brewster, NE and opened Johnston Repair, providing general mechanic work, welding, and feed, for the next 42 years. Ken took automotive courses, and received his Master Automotive Technician certificate in 1981. Ken was able to fix most anything, and was an excellent welder. He was known for building/welding many things including buildings, auto-gates, front steps, metal windmills, and signs. He was extremely involved in the community including being the fire chief, ambulance driver, on the cemetery board, and was the village clerk.&nbsp; Sue worked at the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey in the tree nursery.&nbsp; Her 27-year career with Sandhills Public Schools began as the janitor at the Brewster Elementary.&nbsp; After completing her culinary courses, she became the cook in Brewster, and continued on to Halsey, and then became the head cook at Dunning.&nbsp; During the summer months she cooked at the Nebraska State 4-H camp.&nbsp; After retiring, she helped her husband with their business, Johnston Repair.&nbsp; Sue was active in the church, and volunteered at the ‘Community Connection’ thrift store.&nbsp; Ken and Sue were both proud of their community, and were awarded the Community Service Award in 2002 and 2015. Ken and Sue were loved by their six grandchildren, who remember Papa J with M&amp;Ms and a soda pop at his shop, and Ma J as always having a cookie and cinnamon roll at her home.&nbsp; Sue passed away on October 16th of 2021, and Ken passed away on October 18th of 2021 and both will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Ken and Sue are survived by their four children - Tessia Johnston (Duke Finck) of Rapid City, SD, Trisha (Marty) Christensen of Mead, NE, Wyatt (Yolanda) Johnston of Brandon, SD, and Teri Johnston of Omaha, NE. Their grandchildren - Mason, Micah, and Kathryn Christensen, and Harley, Penelope, and Sutton Johnston.&nbsp; Survivors also include Ken’s siblings - Karen Fay and Kay (Dan) Schenck, and Sue’s siblings - Belinda (Tim) Tibbs, Dail Anne (Ricky) Helzer, Leon (Debbie) Zimmerman, and Lynn (Janet) Zimmerman.&nbsp; They were preceded in death by Ken’s infant brother Kody, Ken’s parents Harry &amp; Naomi Johnston, Sue’s parents Dale &amp; DeLilah Zimmerman, and brother-in-law Max Fay. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 28th from 4:30-6:30 pm at Govier Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; Funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 29th, at 10:30 am at Sandhills High School in Dunning, NE.&nbsp; Burial will follow funeral at Brewster Cemetery in Brewster, NE.

 </figure>Harry Kenneth Johnston was born January 14, 1952 in Arnold, NE to Harry and Naomi (Dishman) Johnston.&nbsp; He was the oldest of three children.&nbsp; Known by Ken or Kenny, he attended grade school at Hawley Flats District #3, and graduated from Brewster High School in 1970.&nbsp; When Ken was young, he enjoyed fixing fence with his father, playing with toy trucks, fixing cars, and taking care of his vehicles.&nbsp; &nbsp;MaLinda Sue (Zimmerman) Johnston was born in Broken Bow, NE to Dale and DeLilah (Saner) Zimmerman on January 4, 1955.&nbsp; She was born 6 minutes after arriving at the hospital.&nbsp; Known by Sue, she was the second of five children. Sue attended grade school at Hoosier Valley near Anselmo, NE until 3rd grade, and finished at Halsey-Dunning Elementary.&nbsp; In her younger years, she enjoyed playing outside, riding horses, and helping in the hayfield sweeping hay at the ranch outside of Dunning, NE. She graduated from Sandhills High School in 1973.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, Ken worked at Bowen’s Mobil Station in Dunning, NE, and Dan Norris’ machine shop in Brewster, NE.&nbsp; Ken and Sue began dating in June 1972, while Sue was still in high school.&nbsp; After graduation, Sue worked as a seamstress in Grand Island for a short time. Ken &amp; Sue were united in marriage on October 28, 1973 at the Seventh-day Adventist church in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; The couple resided in Ainsworth, NE after getting married and Ken worked for Dude Daniels Manufacturing, driving a semi, and Sue made curlers and provided in-home daycare.&nbsp; They lived there until 1979, when they moved their family to Brewster, NE and opened Johnston Repair, providing general mechanic work, welding, and feed, for the next 42 years. Ken took automotive courses, and received his Master Automotive Technician certificate in 1981. Ken was able to fix most anything, and was an excellent welder. He was known for building/welding many things including buildings, auto-gates, front steps, metal windmills, and signs. He was extremely involved in the community including being the fire chief, ambulance driver, on the cemetery board, and was the village clerk.&nbsp; Sue worked at the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey in the tree nursery.&nbsp; Her 27-year career with Sandhills Public Schools began as the janitor at the Brewster Elementary.&nbsp; After completing her culinary courses, she became the cook in Brewster, and continued on to Halsey, and then became the head cook at Dunning.&nbsp; During the summer months she cooked at the Nebraska State 4-H camp.&nbsp; After retiring, she helped her husband with their business, Johnston Repair.&nbsp; Sue was active in the church, and volunteered at the ‘Community Connection’ thrift store.&nbsp; Ken and Sue were both proud of their community, and were awarded the Community Service Award in 2002 and 2015. Harry "Ken" (1952-2021) and MaLinda "Sue" Johnston (1955-2021)

Arthur L. Schwarze, 76, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Lexington Regional Health Center. Arthur was born on November 8, 1944, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, to Herman &amp; Alice (Paronto) Schwarze. He attended public schools in Kekoskee and Mayville and graduated from Mayville High School with the class of 1963.&nbsp; Following high school, Arthur enlisted in the United States Navy for four years and also attended college classes. He was a field representative for various ag equipment companies.&nbsp; On August 13, 1966, he was united in marriage to Jean Feucht at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville, Wisconsin. They made their home in Mayville and three sons were blessed to this union: Benjamin, Thomas and Paul.&nbsp; They moved to various places in the Midwest where Arthur sold farm equipment.&nbsp; In 2005, they moved to Lexington, Nebraska where he worked for Kuhn/Knight Equipment. After retiring, Arthur had no trouble keeping himself busy. Arthur had many hobbies during his time living in Lexington. His main interest was working on electronics.&nbsp; He also liked reading, wrenching, and carpentry.&nbsp; If it was broken, he could usually fix it.&nbsp; Arthur was also a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington and was past Grand Knight of The Knights Of Columbus. He was proud to be an American, was a patriot and a God-loving man. He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Jean of Lexington; his three sons; Benjamin (Avigail) Schwarze of Savoy, Illinois, Thomas (Amber) Schwarze of Madison, Wisconsin and Paul Schwarze of Lincoln; one brother, David Schwarze of Tomah, Wisconsin, a sister-in-law Rhoda Schwarze of Tucson, Arizona; brother-in-law, Alex (Kuan) Feucht of Glendale, California and sister-in-law, Geri (Tim) Feucht- Bachhuber of Mayville, Wisconsin; of as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Ralph &amp; Herman and one sister, Eunice. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Jose Chavez, officiating. Warren "Keith" Stotts was born May 8, 1959, to Warren W &amp; Vi Stotts in Martin, SD. He was the third of five children. They lived in Cody, Ne during his childhood years where he worked on the family ranch &amp; attended Cody-Kilgore Unified Schools. They later moved to Valentine where Keith attended &amp; graduated from Valentine Rural High School. He attended school for diesel mechanic for 1 year. He was married to Deanna Allard for 14 years. Two children were born into that union, Kelli &amp; Mike. Throughout the years, Keith worked several jobs from Road Construction to auto/diesel mechanics. His favorite job however was as an over-the-road truck driver, as an owner/operator. Keith &amp; his mom briefly owned the Diamond X Bar in Valentine, NE. He enjoyed boating, fishing, racing and watching Husker football. In the last few years, he made a home in Altus, OK with his daughter Kelli and her family. Keith passed away in Altus, OK, on Oct 15, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Warren and Vi Stotts. Keith is survived by his children Kelli (Bryant) Kruckenberg of Altus, Ok., Mike (Maisie) Stotts of Valentine, Ne. Grandchildren Timothy Petersen, Katherine Petersen, Allison Petersen, Collin Stotts. Merita Fern Larson, age 94, of McCook, NE passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte, NE. Merita was born October 9, 1927 in Hamlet to Edward M. and Ethel (Stratton) Holmes, the youngest of three siblings.&nbsp; She attended school in Wauneta, NE, and graduated from high school in 1945. Merita grew up on the family homestead near Hamlet, Nebraska and fondly remembered using a rope bridge and playing on the banks of the Frenchman with her brother and sister. Merita married Victor Larson on June 18, 1945 in Atwood, Kansas.&nbsp; The couple became the proud parents of three sons:&nbsp; Larry, Jerry and Vic.&nbsp; Merita later married Robert Kindervag on June 12, 1982 in McCook. In 1970, at the age of 43, after being a stay-at-home Mom, she knew she needed to work outside the home.&nbsp; She sought and accepted a position at St. Catherine Hospital in the Accounting Office.&nbsp; With no formal training or experience in accounting, this was truly a gift from God. &nbsp;&nbsp;Merita retired from McCook Community Hospital in 1992.&nbsp; Merita enjoyed working in the yard and tending to her flowers, plants and trees.&nbsp; She was very fond of cats. She had many different cats in her home during her life, and fed many strays on her back doorstep.&nbsp; Merita was a member of the First Congregational Church. Merita was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother, Arland Holmes; sister, Lavina LaSalle; and her daughter in law, Cindy Larson.&nbsp; Those left to celebrate her life include her sons, Larry (Kathy) Larson of Wichita, KS, Jerry Larson of McCook and Vic (Sharon) Larson of Eustis, NE; six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Merita Fern Larson (1927-2021)

Phyllis Jeannine Reynolds, age 84, of McCook, passed away Tuesday evening, October 19, 2021 at Community Hospital in McCook.&nbsp; Jeannine was born on December 5, 1936 in Oberlin, Kansas to Marion and Lee Ora (Lawver) Mockry.&nbsp; She grew up on the Mockry Farm in Decatur County, Kansas and attended school in Cedar Bluffs and McCook. &nbsp; &nbsp; Jeannine married Stanley Reynolds on June 13, 1954 at the Assembly of God Church in McCook.&nbsp; Stan and Jeannine made McCook their home and to this union four children were born: Lyn, Carli, Debbie, and Paul.&nbsp; Jeannine was a devoted wife and mother.&nbsp; She took great pride in her family and supported each of them in their various activities and accomplishments.&nbsp; After raising her children, she went on to work at DeGroff’s Department store for six years in the fabric department.&nbsp; &nbsp; Jeannine could do amazing things with fabric and her needle and thread.&nbsp; She was an outstanding seamstress, producing countless works of love for her children’s and grandchildren’s special days.&nbsp; Her skilled hands created everyday clothing for her young family as well as many bridesmaid dresses and wedding gowns. &nbsp; &nbsp; Jeannine was a woman of faith.&nbsp; She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in McCook for all of her adult life.&nbsp; She was active in the congregation; it would be impossible to guess how many bible studies she took part in.&nbsp; In addition to being a Sunday School teacher, Jeannine was also a gifted musician and played the piano for the church for many years. &nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lee Mockry; and her grandson, Landen Reimer. &nbsp; &nbsp; Left to carry on her memory are her husband of 67 years, Stanley Reynolds of McCook; son, Lyn (Marcia) Reynolds of Cedar Bluffs, Kansas; daughter, Carli (Leonard) Reimer of Highlandville, Missouri; daughter, Debbie (Gregg) Thee of St. Cloud, Florida; son, Paul (Kristine) Reynolds of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren: Lyndsi, Grant, Amber, Larissa, Stephen, Shane, and Sarah; 12 great-grandchildren; and her niece, Ronda (Jeremy) Pinkerman of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. &nbsp; &nbsp; Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.&nbsp; The family will be present to greet friends from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. &nbsp; &nbsp; Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Assembly of God Church in McCook.&nbsp; Interment will follow services in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. &nbsp; &nbsp; Memorials may be given to the family of Jeannine Reynolds for future designation.&nbsp; Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.&nbsp; Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

 </figure>Phyllis Jeannine Reynolds, age 84, of McCook, passed away Tuesday evening, October 19, 2021 at Community Hospital in McCook.&nbsp; Jeannine was born on December 5, 1936 in Oberlin, Kansas to Marion and Lee Ora (Lawver) Mockry.&nbsp; She grew up on the Mockry Farm in Decatur County, Kansas and attended school in Cedar Bluffs and McCook. &nbsp; &nbsp; Jeannine married Stanley Reynolds on June 13, 1954 at the Assembly of God Church in McCook.&nbsp; Stan and Jeannine made McCook their home and to this union four children were born: Lyn, Carli, Debbie, and Paul.&nbsp; Jeannine was a devoted wife and mother.&nbsp; She took great pride in her family and supported each of them in their various activities and accomplishments.&nbsp; After raising her children, she went on to work at DeGroff’s Department store for six years in the fabric department.&nbsp; &nbsp; Jeannine could do amazing things with fabric and her needle and thread.&nbsp; She was an outstanding seamstress, producing countless works of love for her children’s and grandchildren’s special days.&nbsp; Her skilled hands created everyday clothing for her young family as well as many bridesmaid dresses and wedding gowns. &nbsp; &nbsp; Jeannine was a woman of faith.&nbsp; She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in McCook for all of her adult life.&nbsp; She was active in the congregation; it would be impossible to guess how many bible studies she took part in.&nbsp; In addition to being a Sunday School teacher, Jeannine was also a gifted musician and played the piano for the church for many years. &nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lee Mockry; and her grandson, Landen Reimer. &nbsp; &nbsp; Left to carry on her memory are her husband of 67 years, Stanley Reynolds of McCook; son, Lyn (Marcia) Reynolds of Cedar Bluffs, Kansas; daughter, Carli (Leonard) Reimer of Highlandville, Missouri; daughter, Debbie (Gregg) Thee of St. Cloud, Florida; son, Paul (Kristine) Reynolds of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren: Lyndsi, Grant, Amber, Larissa, Stephen, Shane, and Sarah; 12 great-grandchildren; and her niece, Ronda (Jeremy) Pinkerman of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. &nbsp; &nbsp; Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.&nbsp; The family will be present to greet friends from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. &nbsp; &nbsp; Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Assembly of God Church in McCook.&nbsp; Interment will follow services in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook. &nbsp; &nbsp; Memorials may be given to the family of Jeannine Reynolds for future designation.&nbsp; Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.&nbsp; Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

He was a simple man that found great fulfillment in his work and was deeply patriotic. He made lasting friendships that he valued, many of which came from his days in the service. Clayton lived life with a frugality that was often characteristic of his generation, but he did splurge on cars. Though he was a man of agriculture and the outdoors, Clayton's favorite Mustangs were of the Ford variety. Clayton was preceded in death by his; wife Mary Jean; an infant son; daughter, Cathy; brother, Earl Sparks; a great-grandchild. Bernie Spencer, age 96, of Hyannis, NE passed away October 17, 2021, at the Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport, NE. Bernard Richard Spencer was born September 24, 1925, north of Hyannis to Albertus “Bert” and Mary (McKinney) Spencer. He attended school in Alliance and Broadwater. Bernie was drafted into the Army in 1942 and was Honorable Discharged August 5, 1947. After returning home he worked for Everett Eldred in Lisco, NE. One pasture had 88 windmills, one for each 640 acres. He used a wagon with four horses, and one lead saddle horse to distribute salt. It took several days to make the circle. They furnished good Morgan horses which he broke for both saddle and work horses. After his first year there, he was promoted to manager of the ranch. Bernie then went to work for Rush Creek Land and Livestock Company for the next 52 years, managing one of their ranches until he retired in 2002. Bernie was united in marriage to Francis Ellen Roby in 1952 at Scottsbluff, NE. To this union three children were born Debra, Katrina, and Bernard Tracy. Bernie was as honest as any man known, and was appreciated as a good neighbor, and community member. He was a real traditional cowboy. He worked mostly with horses and livestock his entire life. In 2019, Bernie was inducted in to the Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame. &nbsp;Bernie was Honored with a Military Quilt of Valor. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and leather work along the way. Bernie is survived by his wife Frances of Hyannis; children Deb (Mark) Jasnoch of Lewellen, Katrina (Roscoe) Haase of Valentine, and Trace (Lisa) Spencer of Dixon, SD; seven grandchildren: B.J. (Shana) Merrihew, K.C. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Glenn Edward Berndt, age 92, of Culbertson, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021. He was born in southern Red Willow County on January 2, 1929 on the family farm, just north of Cedar Bluffs, KS. He lived there until his family relocated to Brush, Colorado in 1939. The family returned to the McCook area in 1944. Glenn attended high school in McCook his junior year, then transferred to Culbertson High School when his family purchased a farm north of Culbertson. Glenn graduated from Culbertson High School in 1946. He enjoyed sports while in high school, playing basketball and running track. He qualified for the state track meet in the 4x100 relay in 1946. He also played baseball for the Culbertson team after graduating.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Glenn was preparing to attend the military academy in 1947, but his father became ill, so Glenn remained at home to take over operating the family farm. On February 14, 1954, Glenn was united in marriage to Norma Jean Wagner in Culbertson. The couple celebrated 67 years of marriage.&nbsp; Glenn and his family farmed and ranched north of Culbertson in Hitchcock and Hayes County.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Glenn enjoyed raising cattle and horses, as well as being a big Rodeo fan.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Glenn’s love for horses, in part, came from his father who raised and bought horses for the United States Army before and just after W.W.I.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Glenn raised mostly crossbred cattle, experimenting with exotic breeds. In the 1970’s and early 1980’s Glenn raised a few calves that went on to win both local and out-of-state livestock shows.&nbsp;&nbsp;After retirement from the farm in 1985, Glenn worked at Wheelers in McCook managing the Ag Department. He later drove a delivery truck for two different local ag chemical companies.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Glenn loved to visit with friends and family when he had the opportunity.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;No matter the topic of conversation, Glenn had a gift of always having a thought or story or joke come to mind to add to the chat. Glenn E. Berndt (1929-2021)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ila Ann Widger, age 91, of Wauneta, NE passed away at Wauneta Care and Therapy on Saturday, September 11, 2021.&nbsp; She was born on the family homestead in Washington County, near Herman, NE, on August 21, 1930, to Elmer and Edna (Matthews) Thone. Ila attended Thone Country School District 21 for 8 years and graduated from Blair High School in 1947. In 1951, she graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with degrees in Vocational Education, Clothing and Textiles, and Food and Nutrition.&nbsp; At that time, Ila became the youngest teacher in the state of Nebraska. Marge (Garey) Hanna, Ila's best friend, and Ila pooled their money after graduating from college and spent the summer touring Europe on bicycles. She taught Home Economics and Art for over 20 years in the Wauneta and Hayes Center Schools. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;After moving to Wauneta to teach Home Economics, Ila met the love of her life, C. Orville Widger. They were married on December 27, 1953, in the Blair Methodist Church.&nbsp; Their union produced three sons, Mark, Dan, and Sam.&nbsp; Ila and Orville were married for 59 years. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ila was active in the Wauneta Methodist Church as a member for 65+ years: president of WSCS, taught Sunday school, was a 4-H leader, enjoyed target shooting, and a Den Mother for each of her sons in Troop #1 of the local Cub Scouts. After retiring from teaching, she became an avid quilter, helping to sew over 1000 charity quilts, plus hundreds of quilts and quilted wall hangings for family and friends. She had a lot of other interests as well, knitting, crocheting, woodworking, pretty much any type of crafts, and loved spending time at their cabin in Colorado. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Preceding her in death were her parents, Elmer Sr. and Edna Thone; her in-laws, Carl and Eva Widger; her husband, Orville (2013); her brother and his wife, Elmer Jr. and Gwen Thone; her brother and his wife, Dr. James and Leona Thone; son, Mark (2020); and granddaughter Emily (2014). &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ila is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carrie Widger-Ward (Chuck) of Omaha, NE; son, Dan (Deb) of Wahoo, NE; son, Sam (Michelle) of Kearney, NE; nine grandchildren: Sarah (Bryant) Travis, Alicia (Brian) Dieter, Matthew Widger, Amy (Cody) Widger, Adam (Megan) Stone, Keri (Justin) Rahn, Zach Widger, Megan Widger, Hannah Widger; and ten great grandchildren: Cami and Ali and Mark Dieter, Emily and Rozlin Kumpula, Koltar and Erika and Carly Rahn, Zelda and Coraline Stone. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Memorials were requested by Ila to go to the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, the Wauneta Fire Department, the Wauneta Library, the Wauneta Senior Center, or the Nebraska MADD Chapter. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ila chose cremation and services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta, NE on October 23, 2021, at 11:00am (MT), with Rev. After retiring from teaching, she became an avid quilter, helping to sew over 1000 charity quilts, plus hundreds of quilts and quilted wall hangings for family and friends. She had a lot of other interests as well, knitting, crocheting, woodworking, pretty much any type of crafts, and loved spending time at their cabin in Colorado. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Preceding her in death were her parents, Elmer Sr. and Edna Thone; her in-laws, Carl and Eva Widger; her husband, Orville (2013); her brother and his wife, Elmer Jr. and Gwen Thone; her brother and his wife, Dr. James and Leona Thone; son, Mark (2020); and granddaughter Emily (2014). &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ila is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carrie Widger-Ward (Chuck) of Omaha, NE; son, Dan (Deb) of Wahoo, NE; son, Sam (Michelle) of Kearney, NE; nine grandchildren: Sarah (Bryant) Travis, Alicia (Brian) Dieter, Matthew Widger, Amy (Cody) Widger, Adam (Megan) Stone, Keri (Justin) Rahn, Zach Widger, Megan Widger, Hannah Widger; and ten great grandchildren: Cami and Ali and Mark Dieter, Emily and Rozlin Kumpula, Koltar and Erika and Carly Rahn, Zelda and Coraline Stone. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Memorials were requested by Ila to go to the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, the Wauneta Fire Department, the Wauneta Library, the Wauneta Senior Center, or the Nebraska MADD Chapter. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ila chose cremation and services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta, NE on October 23, 2021, at 11:00am (MT), with Rev. Marylin Bethene Amsberry, 85, died October 17, 2021, at Kinship Point Northridge in Kearney, Nebraska. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Marylin was a lifetime resident of Custer County, born March 9, 1936, near Ansley, Nebraska, to Delbert and Fern (Perry) Stahl. Marylin was much younger than her siblings. She had two brothers – Gerald (Jeanette) and Norwin (Joanne) Stahl, and one sister – Zola (Melton) Adams. Marylin graduated from Ansley High School in 1954. She married Jim Amsberry on June 20, 1954. Marylin and Jim lived in Wyoming, Florida, and California while Jim served in the Air Force. In 1956, they purchased farm ground and returned to Ansley with $200 in their bank account, to join Jim’s father, Rollie, in the family farming operation. The couple made their home in Ansley and raised three sons and a daughter in this community. Marylin was a wonderful cook and loved to share her baked goods with her family and her community. She shared her life story with her grandchildren recently in the form of a cookbook. She tells of raising chickens and sewing for others, but cake decorating was what she really enjoyed. She made wedding cakes for 27 years and birthday cakes for everyone in the family for many years after that. Besides cakes, Marylin was famous for her cinnamon rolls, pies, and noodles. In addition to being a great cook, Marylin loved to quilt. She made all her children Cathedral Window quilts, each grandchild a denim quilt, and every great-grandchild a specially crafted Christmas stocking. Marylin loved to cook and sew, she also raised a garden and loved to grow flowers. She&nbsp;spent years serving her community in various activities as a school board member, community club member, church member, and avid Ansley sports fan. Marylin and Jim had four children – Rollie “Skip” (Kathy), Gary (Shelly), Rod (Kara), and Janell (Jeff) Stunkel. She had 11 grandchildren – Rachel (Shane) Hrasky, Jessica (Chris) Christensen, Rebecca (Jared) Hixson, Megan (Alex) Steckler, Brooke (Brad) Greisen, Kaitlin (Jonathan) Hoffee, Garett (Kathryn) Amsberry, Wade Amsberry, Grady (Courtney) Stunkel, Paige Stunkel, and Karlee Stunkel. Steve enjoyed fishing as well as collecting antiques and art.&nbsp; He was a very caring person, always willing to lend a helping hand to others.&nbsp; Steve moved from Sterling, Colorado to North Platte in 2014.&nbsp; Steve was proceeded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Marsha Kirk; and a nephew. Stephen Palecek (1955-2021)

Burnetta “Bea” Silvester was born on Dec. 12, 1932 in rural Champion, NE to Frank and Hattie (Bevans) Silvester. She was the 11th child of 12 children, seven boys and five girls. Bea passed away at the Chase County Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021 at 8:15 pm. The doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital took wonderful care of Bea until the end. Bea experienced farm life of a large family growing up. She played softball, and later coached several years of softball teams at “Wagon Wheel” park, west of Champion, including young girls, junior high and adult women. Bea graduated in 1952 from Chase County High School. After taking “normal training” during her junior and senior years, she taught 2 years at District 25, known as the Crete School, which was 1st through 8th grade. One of her students, who was in the 7th-8th grade, Jerry Goddard, was a lifetime friend and fellow quilter. Bea married Don Bauerle on May 15, 1954 at the Crete Church. Don and Bea had five children, David, Debra, Dirk, Dorothea and Darice. Bea worked alongside Don on the farm, helping with irrigation. The family raised chickens, ducks, geese, Ginny hens, turkeys, chinchillas, sheep, and milk cows. The large garden helped feed the family and produce was also sold to others. Bea was very active in her children’s activities, watching sports games, helping with plays and musicals, attending band and choir concerts and speech contests. Bea served on the Imperial Senior Center Board for over 30 years, helping with fundraising activities, including Sunday Buffets. Bea helped teach 4-H sewing and started the 4-H cake decorating club. She also taught adult sewing and cake decorating classes. Later when the children were older, Bea started quilting on her own after taking a “quilt in a day” class and later taught many quilt classes. She taught many adults and youth to quilt, including her daughters and granddaughters. She has taught classes in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas and has given many “trunk show” presentations. She judged quilts at county fairs for several years. She displayed quilts at the Imperial Senior Center, Imperial Heights, Champion Museum, and Crossroads Wesleyan Church. She also entered her quilts at quilt shows at the Chase County Fair, Nebraska Land Days, Threads Across Nebraska, and Nebraska State Fair. Bea was active in the Nebraska State Quilt Guild, teaching classes during the annual convention and serving as district rep. She received the “Golden Thread Award” in 1994 and served as president in 2008. In 2016, she made 15 patriotic quilts and presented them to veterans or veteran families in the Crossroads Wesleyan Church family. She also makes quilts for high school graduates and babies from the church. For Christmas 2020, Bea made lap-sized quilts for all of her immediate family, giving them out during the family Christmas Eve supper. She continued to make quilts even to her last days at home. Bea was the last surviving sibling in her family for the last several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lee, Glen, Frank, Bill, JB, Mark and Jack and sisters, Helen, Bertha, Daisy (Dee) and Emma (Tiny); and her beloved husband, Don, who passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2021. Surviving to remember and celebrate her life, are Bea’s children, David and Jayne Bauerle of Champion, NE; Debra Bauerle of Imperial, NE; Dirk Bauerle and Dawn Weber of Imperial; Dorothea (Bauerle) Quiring of Henderson, NE; and Darice (Bauerle) and Greg Cecil of Lincoln, NE. Burnetta V Bauerle (1932-2021)

Alvin LeRoy Einspahr was born October 28, 1933, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Susie (Herbert) and Theodore Einspahr. Alvin attended Wauneta Public Schools and began working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a pipe-fitter. On June 11, 1953, Alvin married Kaye Frances Trotter in Oberlin, Kansas, and to this union three children were born: Alvin Lee, Connie and Michael. The family lived in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas as Alvin continued to work for the Union Pacific, retiring after 30 years. Alvin was a talented wood-worker and carver, enjoyed fishing and hunting, camping and traveling, westerns and country music. He was a lifelong Husker fan, traveling to various Husker bowl games. Alvin especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Alvin was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Imperial, Nebraska. He loved his Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Alvin passed away October 15, 2021, at the Imperial Manor, Imperial, Nebraska. He was 87 years of age. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.  </figure>Alvin LeRoy Einspahr was born October 28, 1933, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Susie (Herbert) and Theodore Einspahr. Alvin attended Wauneta Public Schools and began working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a pipe-fitter. On June 11, 1953, Alvin married Kaye Frances Trotter in Oberlin, Kansas, and to this union three children were born: Alvin Lee, Connie and Michael. The family lived in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas as Alvin continued to work for the Union Pacific, retiring after 30 years. Alvin was a talented wood-worker and carver, enjoyed fishing and hunting, camping and traveling, westerns and country music. He was a lifelong Husker fan, traveling to various Husker bowl games. Alvin especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Alvin was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Imperial, Nebraska. He loved his Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Alvin passed away October 15, 2021, at the Imperial Manor, Imperial, Nebraska. He was 87 years of age. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. Survivors include: Wife: Kaye of Lincoln, KS. Son: Alvin Lee Einspahr of North Platte, NE. Daughter: Connie (Gerald) Huehl of Lincoln, KS. Son: Mike (Teri) Einspahr of Sutherland, NE. Alvin L Einspahr (1933-2021)

Michael Murl Allen, 69, of Oshkosh passed away early Sunday morning, October 17, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Michael and his twin were born March 13, 1952, in Oshkosh to Hershel Murl and Shirlie Hope (Zoucha) Allen.&nbsp; The family moved to California in 1953 returning to the area in 1967, however during a lot of the summer years they returned to work on the family farms and ranches.&nbsp; He graduated from Garden County High School in 1970.&nbsp; After high school he joined the Navy.&nbsp; He was stationed in California and after his discharge he once again came home.&nbsp; On a trip through Colorado, he met his future wife, Joanne Beals, and they were married shortly after on July 30, 1977.&nbsp; They lived in Iowa and welcomed a baby girl, Sarah in 1980. In 1984, Mike and Joanne moved back to Oshkosh and were joined by son, Matthew in 1985 and daughter, Hannah in 1987. The year of 1985 also brought Mine &amp; Mike’s to Oshkosh.&nbsp; They owned and operated the bar for almost 23 years.&nbsp; After closing the bar, Mike started carpentry work. Mike loved baseball.&nbsp; Whether playing or watching, he was interested. &nbsp;For years he was a Federation Wrestling coach.&nbsp; Mike also enjoyed motorcycles, hunting, fishing, but what he enjoyed most was being a grandpa.&nbsp; Mike never knew a stranger and had a way of always befriending and helping out kids. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Sarah and husband, Stephen Otero of Crested Butte, CO, Matthew and wife, Hallie Allen of Oshkosh, and Hannah and husband, Dustin Riese; 9 grandchildren (his baseball team), Sophia and Dustin Otero, Kadren, Emma, Leah, and Myles Allen, Sabastian, Sawyer, Remington Riese; brother, Patrick and wife, Susan Allen of Oshkosh; mother-in-law, Sue Beals of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a large extended family and many lifelong friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, niece, April Zoucha Tafoya, and father-in-law, Howard Beals. Funeral Services for Loretta J. Kauffman, 81, of Grant, Nebraska, formerly of Kalona, will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at East Union Mennonite Church. Loretta Joan (Miller) Kauffman passed away at Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Nebraska on October 15, 2021. Loretta was born on February 23, 1940, to Sam T. and Mary Miller in Kalona, Iowa. She attended Prairie Dale School, Kalona Elementary, and Hillcrest Academy (formerly known as Iowa Mennonite School). After graduating from IMS, she chose to be a secretary at Home Gas Company in Wellman for six years. She was united in marriage to John J. Kauffman of Iowa City on March 28, 1964. She then became a farmer's wife and continued to do bookkeeping for the farm until 2020. Loretta enjoyed volunteering at the MCC Crowded Closet in Iowa City. She was a sales associate at Olive Branch Bookstore for 10 years, assisting many customers. She worked at Steindler Orthopedic for nine years. Her retirement in 2008 allowed her to care for John in their home following his stroke in March 2009. Loretta was baptized and became a member of East Union Mennonite Church at the age of 12. She was an active member and spent many hours teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and serving on various committees. She enjoyed demonstrating her Christian faith in serving and working with people. Loretta had fond memories of attending Handel's Messiah, and later participated in community performances over the years. She volunteered for many activities at Hills Elementary and IMS, where her children attended. Loretta's hobbies included reading, putting hundreds of puzzles together, gardening, shopping for treasures at flea markets and thrift stores, needlework, music, traveling, camping, hosting MCC international trainees, entertaining, and cooking for large groups. In June 2020, Loretta made the move from Iowa City, Iowa to Grant, Nebraska to be closer to family. Loretta's faith never wavered as she looked forward to worshipping her Lord and Savior while being reunited with John. Psalm 23 brought special comfort during the long days in her battle with cancer. Survivors include four daughters: Karleen (Dean) Uitermark of Stanhope, IA; Marina (Gene) Davis of Pryor, MT; LaDonna (Steve) Abbott of Jones, OK; and Jonette (Troy) Kemling of Grant, NE; three siblings: Cletus (Dorothy) Miller of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Darlene Logan of Kalona, IA, and Delores Miller of Kalona, IA; 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Charles Lambert Anderson was born April 24, 1930, at Palmer, Nebraska, to Oliver and Martha (Jaeger) Anderson. Charles attended District #23 in Chase County for eight years and then went on to work on the family farm. Charles was inducted into the U.S. Army on September 15, 1951, and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged on June 18, 1953, and returned to Chase County to work on the family farm. On August 25, 1954, Charles was united in marriage to Marilyn McNeil at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Garber in Imperial, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Peggy, Betty and Ronald. They made their home on the family farm near Imperial. Charles was a lifetime farmer and working in the fields was his life’s work and hobby. Charles passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the Imperial Manor, Imperial, Nebraska. He was 91 years of age. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; parents Oliver and Martha; sister Leola; brother Bryce; son-in-law Steve Smith; and brother-in-law Lee Ridlen.
