Doris Clemens, age 98, of North Platte, died October 16, 2021 at Linden Court. She was born on June 3, 1923 on a farm in western Kansas to Willard and Ruth (Bates) Broyles.&nbsp; She attended country school through the eighth grade and attended high school in Oberlin, KS. She received her diploma through the American Correspondence School in Chicago.&nbsp; Doris married Virgil “Bud” Clemens on November 6, 1940 at Woodston, KS.&nbsp; They lived on the family farm, south of Wallace, Nebraska until 1981, when they retired and moved to North Platte. They moved back to Wallace in 1983.&nbsp; On October 7, 2004 they returned to North Platte where they resided until Bud’s passing in 2006. Doris lived in Linden Estates until moving to Linden Court in 2017 where she resided until her death. Doris accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the age of 13.&nbsp; She was a faithful follower of her Lord and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.&nbsp; She was a member of the Happy Circle Extension Club, attended Bible studies and Christian Women’s Club. &nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, fancy work, puzzles, games and spending time with her family. Doris is survived by children Marcia Seip, North Platte, Rick Seip, Wallace, Jo Ann (Brian) Gibson of Grand Island; 7 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bud of 65 years; son Vince Clemens; two sisters; one brother.&nbsp; &nbsp; A memorial has been established to Franklin Graham Samaritan’s Purse. Donald (Bink)Vincent McMurtry, 93, of North Platte, passed away on October 13, 2021 at Linden Court.&nbsp; He was born on December 26, 1927 to Francis and Alice (Anderson) McMurtry in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; Donald attended North Platte Catholic Schools and finished at North Platte Public Schools.&nbsp; He entered the United States Navy, serving on Midway Island during WWII.&nbsp; After his discharge he returned to North Platte.&nbsp; Donald married Darlene Veronica Farrell and the couple made their home in North Platte.&nbsp; He made his living as a successful salesman until he purchased Uptown Motel in 1969 and ran it for many years, selling it in the early 80’s.&nbsp; Don was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and loved to travel, golf, play cards, sew, birdwatch and dance. Don would never turn down an opportunity to dance, especially a waltz.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing and hunting and rarely missed his target.&nbsp; He was also very creative and artistic. He built many things throughout his life as a carpenter and craftsman.&nbsp; Don was an excellent storyteller and delighted in telling a good joke as well. He always shared stories of his travels and took great pride in showing what roads he took to get there with his well-used atlas. &nbsp;Don was blessed to spend the last several years of his life with Lucille. Together they made a lifetime of memories. Through their travels, dancing, laughter and all of her great care, he couldn’t have been happier.&nbsp;He was loved and cherished by his family and will be remembered by all who knew him. Gary was born September 1, 1947 to Otis Jay and Alice Lavone (Brasser) Dimmitt, in Ord, Nebraska. Gary grew up in Crofton, Nebraska.&nbsp; He worked on the family farm and a local gas station.&nbsp; On July 4, 1966 he married Ellen Powell in Taylor, Nebraska.&nbsp; They moved to North Platte where Gary worked for Fairmont Dairy, Coca-Cola and then hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad as a carman.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and BBQ with his family.&nbsp; Family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren.&nbsp; Gary is survived by his wife, Ellen of North Platte; children, Thomas Dimmitt, Terri (Marty) Calhoun, Tara Woodcock,&nbsp; and Timothy (Casey) Dimmitt, all of North Platte, Tracey (Robin) Dimmitt, Stapleton; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 5 on the way; along with numerous other family members and friends. &nbsp; James 'Jim' Hornbacher, age 90, of North Platte, passed away at the North Platte Care Center on October 16, 2021. Jim was born to Daniel and Josie (Turner) Hornbacher on August 14, 1931, at Hitchcock, Nebraska.&nbsp; He grew up in Navada, Iowa, and graduated from Oak Park Academy in 1950. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served during the Korean War.&nbsp; Following his discharge he eventually settled in North Platte where he worked for James E. Simon until retiring in 1995, and was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and Elks Club. On December 27, 1975, Jim married Wanda Bitterman in Cheyenne, WY. Jim never lost his Iowa roots and thought of himself as an old 'Iowa farm boy'.&nbsp; He enjoyed gardening and liked John Deer Tractors so much that his daughter-in-law, Sherry, would call him 'John Deer James'. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Josie; brothers, Daniel and Bill Hornbacher; daughter-in-law, Sherry Hornbacher; and grandson, Jesse Hornbacher. Jim is survived by his wife, Wanda, of North Platte; children, Vanessa (Pat) Kennedy, of Wellsburg, IA, Craig Hornbacher, of Burwick, IA, Michael (Sherry) Hornbacher, of Cheyenne, WY, and James (Julie) Baker, of Stockville; his brother, Vernon Hornbacher; and sisters, Millie Bates, Erma (Lee) Larsons, Joyce Hadley and Jeannie (Gary) Sugg. James Hornbacher (1931-2021)

Patricia (Pat) Ann Finney was born September 1, 1952, to Elmer (Bud) and Margaret (Becker) Kramer at St. Mary's Hospital, in North Platte, Nebraska. She departed this life on October 15, 2021, at the age of 69, after a brief illness. Pat was raised on a farm west of Stapleton and attended Stapleton Public Schools, graduating in 1970. While in high school she served as a State FHA officer. She attended business school in Lincoln. After graduation she worked in accounting at the former McDonald's Clothing Store in North Platte. Pat married the special cowboy in her life, James Russell Finney, on April 29, 1972. They resided on several ranches in the area until finally settling on the Finney Family ranch southeast of &nbsp;Mullen. Pat worked in partnership with her husband in managing the many aspects of ranching. Pat provided meals for small and large groups of ranch hands, helped with feeding, and checking cattle during calving season, and managed all the bookkeeping. Pat loved sharing her joy of &nbsp;ranching with her grandsons. Pat's family were very important to her. Holidays and family gathering were a very special part of Pat's life. She made sure nobody left the table hungry and every grandchild had their own special dessert. Pat was always planning family activities, whether it was scavenger hunts or competitive card games of 21 and 31. The past few years, Pat and Russ began traveling more, which she greatly enjoyed. Pat was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mullen. She was a member of the Alter Society and helped with various events. Pat's faith was always an important part of her life. Pat was a dedicated member of the Art Gray Unit 189 American Legion Auxiliary since 1990. She served as President and Treasurer for several years. Pat is survived by her husband, James Russell Finney of Mullen, sons William (Kaylene) Finney, Cooper, and Bryson, of Lincoln and Scott (Tammy) Finney, Jared and Kyle, of Mullen. Pat is survived by two sisters, Jean Cronin of North Platte, and Kerri (Tim) Miller of Gothenburg, and one brother, William (Kathy) Kramer of Aurora, Colorado. Pat leaves behind two sisters-in-law: Connie Santo of Stapleton, and Helen Ann (Bill) Neumeyer of Mullen; and two brothers-in-law: Dan (Jean) Finney of Gordon and Doug Finney of Seneca. Pat also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends, many of whom she shared ranch life experiences with. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Margaret Kramer, Russ' parents, Robert and Billie Finney, brother John Santo, and niece Corey (Santo) Bergsten. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 10:30 am MT at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mullen with Father Matthew Nash officiating. Interment at the Seneca Cemetery. A visitation will be on October 19, 2021, from Noon to 4:00 pm MT at the Mullen Funeral Home. Rosary will be held that evening at 6:00 pm MT at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Pat is survived by her husband, James Russell Finney of Mullen, sons William (Kaylene) Finney, Cooper, and Bryson, of Lincoln and Scott (Tammy) Finney, Jared and Kyle, of Mullen. Pat is survived by two sisters, Jean Cronin of North Platte, and Kerri (Tim) Miller of Gothenburg, and one brother, William (Kathy) Kramer of Aurora, Colorado. Pat leaves behind two sisters-in-law: Connie Santo of Stapleton, and Helen Ann (Bill) Neumeyer of Mullen; and two brothers-in-law: Dan (Jean) Finney of Gordon and Doug Finney of Seneca. Pat also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends, many of whom she shared ranch life experiences with. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Margaret Kramer, Russ' parents, Robert and Billie Finney, brother John Santo, and niece Corey (Santo) Bergsten. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 10:30 am MT at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mullen with Father Matthew Nash officiating. Interment at the Seneca Cemetery. Patricia Finney (1953-2021)

William (Bill) Kenneth Holen, 73, of Cozad passed away Oct. 14, 2021 at home after being placed on hospice care for a short time. He was born June 4, 1948, in Kearney, Nebraska to the late Kenneth William &amp; Lucille Ann (Miller) Holen. &nbsp;He attended grade school in Bertrand through the third grade.&nbsp; Then moved to Lexington with his family, where he graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1966. At the age of fifteen, after telling his parents he was going to the movie in Lexington, he went to Plainville, Kansas to ride his first bull. Needless to say, his mother was waiting at the door for him when he arrived home about 4 hours after the movie was over.&nbsp; Thus began the next ten years of rodeo.&nbsp; His highest accolade was to win the Tri State Championship for bull riding, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. On May 17, 1969, Bill married Nancy L. Rouse at United Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado. He enjoyed traveling and visited most of the 50 states and Vancouver, Canada with friends, Lee and Karen Shafer and Bruce and Patty Bader, with whom they crisscrossed the country.&nbsp; Over 45 of those years Bill enjoyed getting their families together for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners at their home, sometimes with as many as 40 attending.&nbsp; He loved playing nickel dime quarter poker with his family at Harry and Sook’s at Johnson Lake. Growing up in land locked Nebraska, Bill was all about rodeo, and meat and potatoes.&nbsp; After marriage he learned to salt water fish and crab on the James River and Chesapeake Bay in Virginia.&nbsp; The seafood never replaced beef but the saltwater fish, blue crab, oysters &amp; clams all ran second place.&nbsp; He loved spending time at the family cottage in Virginia, &nbsp;getting to know Nancy’s family and making lifelong friends there, too.&nbsp; Last but not least, he loved Nebraska Football and Volleyball. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lucille Holen, brother-in-law, Jerry Bryan, nephew, David Bryan and in-laws Harry &amp; Marion (Sook) Rouse. William "Bill" Kenneth Holen (1948-2021)

Helen “Dollie”&nbsp;J.&nbsp;Bussard-Miller, age 84, of McCook, went to be with Jesus, on October 13, 2021, from her home in McCook.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was&nbsp;born in Boise, ID on December 21, 1936 to Fredrick and Freda (Smith) Ulrich.&nbsp;&nbsp;On January 17, 1952, Dollie&nbsp;was united in marriage to Raymond “Ray” Shannon Bussard to this union eight children were born: Cheri, Marie, Jerry, Cherri, Terry, Carri, Cathy,&nbsp;Leslie,&nbsp;and Cindi.&nbsp;Raymond preceded her in death on June 25, 1992. Dollie was employed at Hillcrest Nursing Home in environmental services.&nbsp; She did housekeeping for several families and worked at the Electric Hose and Rubber Plant in the seventies. Dollie&nbsp;had a passion for playing cards and belonged to several card clubs, the Merlin Victory Club, K T Club,&nbsp;and the Friday Night Eagle’s Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of the First Congregational Church and served her church in many&nbsp;capacities.&nbsp; She was served as a deacon, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was an active participant in Bible Study groups and the Women’s Fellowship. Dollie was a Prayer Warrior, praying for many people in the church and the Community.&nbsp; She&nbsp;and the family would travel to Wyoming to visit family and&nbsp;loved&nbsp;to camp at the lake.&nbsp;She enjoyed watching the many squirrels in her yard.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dollie had an open&nbsp;invitation&nbsp;that the coffee&nbsp;was&nbsp;always&nbsp;on,&nbsp;and the door was&nbsp;open.&nbsp;Her biggest joy was spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; infant daughter, Cheri; son, Terry (Mary) Bussard; sister, Judy Lang; and son-in-law, Randy Bales. Dollie J. Brussard-Miller (1936-2021)

Ralph Henry Ballard, 88, of Ogallala, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, NE. He was born on August 22, 1933 to Harold and Hulda (Faller) Ballard in Albany, NE. He would attend School District 83 before moving on to graduate from Gordon High School as part of the Class of 1950. Following school, Ralph joined Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where he worked out of Rapid City, South Dakota in the Chadron and Black Hills areas until he was drafted into the Armed Forces, serving our country for the next two years. Following his service, he returned to work for Northwestern Bell. In January of 1957, he would move to North Platte, NE and soon after would marry Helen Cotant in Rapid City, SD on May 20, 1957. The couple would move to Ogallala, NE in August of 1957, remaining there the rest of their lives. Their marriage resulted in 3 daughters, Colleen and twins Eileen and Christine, and later many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Ralph would continue to work for Northwestern Bell in the Ogallala area as an installer repairman until retiring at the age of 51 on Nov 30, 1984 after over 33 years of service to the company. After retirement Ralph was always busy working around the house or taking time to enjoy his retirement. Ralph enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling throughout his life, spending much time doing both with his family. He also enjoyed catching the occasional nature and sports programs, especially his Husker football. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Helen, of over 60 years in May 2021; his parents Harold and Hulda; his brothers Melvin and Howard Ballard and sisters Loraine and Irene; and great-great granddaughter Hadley. Charlotte Lee Nowlin,&nbsp;age 98, of North Platte, passed away at Linden Court on October 16, 2021. Charlotte was born to Walter and Florence Powers on April 6, 1923, in Boone County, near Beaver, Iowa. She graduated as Valedictorian of Beaver High School Class of 1941, then attended business college in Grand Island. On August 2, 1942, Charlotte was united in marriage to Dean Nowlin at Grand Island. The couple later moved to North Platte in '48. Charlotte worked at Fairmont Foods, then for the Telegraph. She retired from the newspaper in 1982 after working there for 26 years. Charlotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and volunteered with RSVP. She was a member of M &amp; K Kiwanis Club and was lieutenant governor, past secretary and past president for District #24, and a member of Signet Chapter #55 Order of Eastern Star where she also served as Worthy Matron. Charlotte enjoyed sewing, cross stitching and quilting with a group at church. She also liked to do scrapbooking and traveling when she could. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, and their son, William Nowlin; her parents, Walter and Florence Powers; brothers, Joe and James Powers; and grandsons, Eric Ridgway and William Nowlin II. &nbsp; William "Bill" Palu of North Platte passed away October 11, 2021, in North Platte. Bill was born November 12, 1948, at Julesburg, Colorado, to Clarence Joseph and June Ellen (Benson) Palu. He graduated from Wheatland High School. In 1969, Bill entered the US Navy, where he worked as a mechanic. Following his discharge from the Navy, Bill returned to Perkins County, where he farmed all his life. The Palu farm, which spanned three generations, was a source of pride for Bill. The outdoors was always a sanctuary for him, and he spent countless hours gardening when he wasn't working in the dirt in other ways. Bill had a quiet demeanor but was always willing to help others. A nice clean vehicle was a source of enjoyment for Bill, and he was meticulous in the way he cared for his things. The skills that he learned as a Navy mechanic served him well in maintaining and fixing vehicles and machinery. Bill was also a man of faith and made it a point to be at Mass and take time for prayer in his life. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Clarence Gary Palu. &nbsp; Earl Ault, age 87, formerly of Brady, Nebraska, died October 12, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte. Earl was born at Brady on August 10, 1934, the son of Carl and Ruby Ault.&nbsp; He grew up in Nebraska and worked for various farmers until retiring.&nbsp; He loved fishing and being outdoors. In 1956, Earl took a home course and received a Certificate of Achievement from the Game Warden Forest Ranger and Fish Hatchery Man Course, and was proud of this achievement.&nbsp; Earl will always be remembered for being an avid storyteller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruby Ault; and brother, Larry and wife, Yvonne Ault. Survivors include his niece, Ashley and husband, Travis McMurphy, of North Platte; great-niece and nephew, Meriah and Conner; as well as other family and his friends. hospital in Grand Island, NE.&nbsp; She was 36
years old.

Chelsea was born February 15, 1985 in Central City, NE to
Randy M and Connie F. (Green) Paul.&nbsp; She
spent her young life in North Platte, NE and, for a while, in Central City,
NE.&nbsp; She played softball in the NP
Dynamics and Bandits teams.&nbsp; She also
played basketball and, with her team, won a first-place tournament medal.&nbsp; Chelsea was baptized and confirmed at the
First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte.

As Chelsea grew up, she lived in North Platte, Omaha, Grand
Island, and Lincoln, among others.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Chelsea worked at various places including Denny’s, Quick Stop, and the Central
City Mall.&nbsp; 

Chelsea struggled with addiction for many years but, above
all, she loved and cherished her two children.&nbsp;
They were the light of her life. Chelsea was a funny, caring person and
would do anything for the ones she loved. &nbsp;She was also very stubborn and could be very
exasperating! She lived her life the way she wanted.&nbsp; Chelsea traveled extensively and managed to
cross the nation and visit almost every state. Chelsea will continue to be dearly
loved and missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children; daughter Jaquious King, son
Martin Gonzales; Dad Randy (Brenda) Paul; mother Connie Poloncic, Central City;
beloved grandmother Ina Carstens, Burwell; sister Amber (Brandon) Hain, Central

Chelsea Marie Paul (1985-2021)

Nancy Lee (Childers) Wallingford was born on February 5, 1933 in Eaglesham, Alberta Canada to Albert Lee and Daisy Rose (Barnes) Childers. She was the youngest of 14 children. She often told stories of her childhood and how she used to walk 2 miles to her local country school. She spoke of how rugged the school year could be at times especially during winter in Northern Alberta.&nbsp; The school was heated by wood, but the coat room was not and often, come lunchtime their food was frozen solid. But she added “that we didn’t know any differently, that’s just the way it was.” There were not many amenities in the 1930s and early 1940s.&nbsp; She attended high school but she decided to pursue work opportunities rather than finish. She worked in a dime store in Grand Prairie for a time and then decided to try her hand at picking fruit in an orchard near Vancouver. It was when she opted to go with her older sister Betty to the United States to visit their brother Bob in Nebraska that her life changed dramatically. She was working as a nanny for a family south of Cody when she noticed a handsome man driving his convertible to town on Saturday nights. She finally met him and they hit it off immediately! After a 6 month engagement she married the love of her life, Raymond Wallingford, on June 7, 1953. To that union, two sons were born, Terry in March, 1954 and Randy in January, 1957. They settled on a family-owned cattle ranch south of Cody and raised their family. She would often reflect that these were some of the happiest times of her life when we were all together on the ranch. After their sons moved away, they sold the ranch, bought a home in Sedona, Arizona and lived there a few years. Their love of travel caught up with them and they sold their home and bought an RV. They spent the next few years traveling around the western U.S. and Canada visiting relatives. After her husband passed she sold the RV and moved to Gordon, Nebraska to be near her sister Betty and her family. She worked at the JefCo Inn and spoke of the fun and friendships she had. It was only after her sister Betty passed that she decided it was time to be closer to her son, Randy. He helped her to move to Lenox, Massachusetts where she lived in an apartment complex until the time of her passing.&nbsp; She made several good friends over the years, enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and oh yes, she always looked forward to a gambling trip where most of the time, the slot machines were outmatched by her! She peacefully passed on October 12, 2021 at Mt. Carmel Care Center in Lenox, Massachusetts with her son Randy and his wife Susan by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond and her son Terry, her 7 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by her sister Bertha Wunsch of Grand Prairie Canada, son Randy (Susan) Wallingford of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, 4 Grandchildren, Mandy Wallingford, Terry Wallingford, Raymond Wallingford, Nancy Zelasney, and 13 great grandchildren. She was blessed with 3 additional Grandchildren when Randy and Susan wed in April 1996, Christen Clark, Scott Clark and Lauren Clark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Funeral service for Nancy Wallingford, will be held on Monday, October 18 at 2 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, Nebraska. Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery.&nbsp; Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of service arrangements.

It was when she opted to go with her older sister Betty to the United States to visit their brother Bob in Nebraska that her life changed dramatically. She was working as a nanny for a family south of Cody when she noticed a handsome man driving his convertible to town on Saturday nights. She finally met him and they hit it off immediately! After a 6 month engagement she married the love of her life, Raymond Wallingford, on June 7, 1953. To that union, two sons were born, Terry in March, 1954 and Randy in January, 1957. They settled on a family-owned cattle ranch south of Cody and raised their family. She would often reflect that these were some of the happiest times of her life when we were all together on the ranch. After their sons moved away, they sold the ranch, bought a home in Sedona, Arizona and lived there a few years. Their love of travel caught up with them and they sold their home and bought an RV. They spent the next few years traveling around the western U.S. and Canada visiting relatives. After her husband passed she sold the RV and moved to Gordon, Nebraska to be near her sister Betty and her family. She worked at the JefCo Inn and spoke of the fun and friendships she had. It was only after her sister Betty passed that she decided it was time to be closer to her son, Randy. He helped her to move to Lenox, Massachusetts where she lived in an apartment complex until the time of her passing.&nbsp; She made several good friends over the years, enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and oh yes, she always looked forward to a gambling trip where most of the time, the slot machines were outmatched by her! She peacefully passed on October 12, 2021 at Mt. Carmel Care Center in Lenox, Massachusetts with her son Randy and his wife Susan by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond and her son Terry, her 7 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by her sister Bertha Wunsch of Grand Prairie Canada, son Randy (Susan) Wallingford of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, 4 Grandchildren, Mandy Wallingford, Terry Wallingford, Raymond Wallingford, Nancy Zelasney, and 13 great grandchildren. She was blessed with 3 additional Grandchildren when Randy and Susan wed in April 1996, Christen Clark, Scott Clark and Lauren Clark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Funeral service for Nancy Wallingford, will be held on Monday, October 18 at 2 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, Nebraska. Burial followed at Mt. Kent L. Cole, 79, of Callaway, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Callaway District Hospital. He was born on September 24, 1942 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Iver and Irene (Uhlig) Cole. Kent attended public schools in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1961. Kent embraced the large family and loved them as his own. The family made their home in Gothenburg, before moving to Alliance, in 1993 and in 2013, moved to Callaway, to be closer to family. Kent had many hobbies which included puzzles, Sudoku, watching the Cornhuskers and was an avid Rodeo fan. He loved his family and being entertained by his grandchildren. He was a member of the Callaway Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Callaway. Elke I. Peterson, 60, of Grant, passed away October 11, 2021, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant. Elke was born September 27, 1961, at Frankfurt, Germany, to Lindol Swofford and Ingeborg Swofford. January 1963, they moved to Colorado with brother Mark Swofford and sister Liane Clark. She graduated from high school in Aurora, CO in 1979. She went on to receive master's degrees in Gerontology and Administration from UNC. Subsequently, she worked in Arizona at various nursing homes. She loved working with the elderly. When she lived in Lewistown, MT she became a certified CODER for the Mental Health facility, volunteered at a Christian Book Store and helped on the Charlie Russell Choo Choo. On August 21, 2016, Elke married Jonathan Peterson, and the two would make their home in Grant, Nebraska. Elke worked at Perkins County Hospital, Country Supply and the Perkins County Christian School before taking a position at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. Elke's life journey was such a compelling one for those that got to know her well. She experienced God's grace and goodness in such a radical way that it transformed her life. Elke was joyful and had a servant's heart. She had a way of drawing people in and had a keen sense for the wounds of others. In a special way, Elke gave of herself at the Perkins County Food Bank, which she was instrumental in running. Elke was fluent in German, Spanish, and English, which allowed her to foster a special connection and friendship with the Christian community in Imperial. For Elke, faith in Jesus made all the difference. To encounter the Lord meant true forgiveness, the reality of being unmoored from the shame and fear that comes with our struggle with sinfulness. Sure of the things she hoped for, and certain of what she couldn't see, the veil was lifted on Monday to reveal the cause for her joy and deepest longings. She was preceded in death by her father, Lindol Swofford. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Pollat; brother, Mike Wilson; and brother-in-law, Bill White. Lloyd Alvin Oman, 91, of Brady, NE, died October 10, 2021 at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp; Lloyd was born July 13, 1930 in Arnold, NE, to Alvin "Jack" and Elsie (Waltermire) Oman. He graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in 1947.&nbsp; Following high school he went to work for his father as a farm hand until enlisting in the Army in 1951.&nbsp; He served his country from 1951-1954 serving in Korea and earning the Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendent.&nbsp; Following his Honorable discharge from the Army, Lloyd returned to Wild Horse Valley where he farmed until his health would no longer allow him.&nbsp; He loved farming and talking to other farmers and neighbors over a cup of coffee, whether at the house or at the coffee shop.&nbsp; Lloyd enjoyed working on motors, especially GM motors and loved GMC vehicles.&nbsp; He loved dogs and always had at least one to keep him company.&nbsp; Lloyd always enjoyed a big bowl of ice cream any chance he had.&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include brother, Harlen Oman of Hartly, DE; sister, Shirley Synovec of DeWitt; nephew, Blaine Almstrum of Tempe, AZ; two nieces, Vicki Almstrum of Stockholm, and Vangi Shilko of Young, AZ; and friend, Justin (Andrea) Carlson of Gothenburg. As an avid street rodder &amp; member of the National Street Rod Association, he could be seen restoring vintage automobiles, rain or shine. Charles was an antiquarian when it came to gas pumps or signage, pedal cars, tire repair kits, or oil cans; and always welcomed neighboring kids &amp; adults to stop by and see his lifetime collection of antiques. He enjoyed fishing &amp; hunting with friends, traveling with his wife to car shows all around, and spending time with his daughter and grandkids. Angelina se fue dejando orgullosamente su legado a sus hijos y nietos de ser una persona muy alegre y sonriente. Disfrutaba estar cerca de su familia; bailando, juagando baraja, y echendose unos tragos con todos llenando de buena vibra a todo lugar al que llegaba. Ella fue una gran madre, una gran esposa, y mas que nada siempre fue hija de Dios. La familia era lo mas importante para ella y cada oportunidad que ella tenia compartia tiempo con sus nietos. La gastronomia era una de sus grandes paciones y con ella demostraba su amor hacia nosotros. Amaba viajar y asi visitar a toda la familia que le habria las puertas de su casa; y los deleitaba con su don en la cocina. Siempre la vamos a llevar en nuestros corazones y recuerden que esto no es un adios si no un hasta luego. Gracias a toda la familia por abrirme las puertas de su casa. James “Jim” Robert Garrett, age 86, of Hayes Center, NE passed away at his home in Hayes Center on Friday, October 8, 2021. Jim was born June 13, 1935 in Hayes Center to parents Lester H. and Lanola A. (Plunkett) Garrett.&nbsp; Jim grew up in Hayes Center where he also attended school, graduating from Hayes Center High School. Jim married Dorothy Mae (Chambers) Garrett on January 14, 1954 in Hayes Center.&nbsp; To this union five children were born.&nbsp; The family made their home in Hayes Center where Jim farmed and together with Dorothy, owned and operated Garrett Sand and Gravel in Palisade, NE.&nbsp; Jim enjoyed hunting, especially elk, and shooting coyotes from his airplane.&nbsp; He also enjoyed fishing.&nbsp; He and Dorothy took great pride in working on their lawn.&nbsp; Jim was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he was also baptized.&nbsp; Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Garrett in 2012; two daughters, Lanola Ann, who died in infancy, and Debra Spickelmier; son, Lester James “Bud” Garrett; and two great grandsons, William Rich and Cole Fredrick. Those left to celebrate his life include his children, Jerry Garrett and husband, Albert Joyce, of Grand Island, NE, Brenda Yeager and husband, Chuck, of Hayes Center; son in law, Merle Spickelmier of Hemingford, NE; daughter in law, Cathy Garrett of North Platte, NE; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Garry Ray Ketler was born September 6, 1946 in Benkelman, Nebraska to Anne (Seitz) Ketler and Daune Ketler. He graduated from Benkelman High School in 1964 alongside his twin brother, Larry Lee. Later in life, Garry married Peggy Crosier in St. Francis, Kansas on January 23, 1983. The couple enjoyed more than 38 years of marriage. Garry held many different jobs over the years, but became interested in healthcare and went to school in North Platte, Nebraska to become a medical lab technologist. Garry worked in many different locales as a laboratory technician, but most memorable was his time at Tsali, New Mexico, serving the Hopi and Navajo. He loved telling stories about his Native American friends. They respected Garry and honored him as one of their own. He was proud to be known as “Bad Penny.” Garry retired in 2012 and once again made Benkelman his home. Garry loved music, especially Country/Western music. He played the guitar and sang with friends and family for many decades. He was also known as a trickster and a jokester. He loved making people laugh and would finish a conversation by cracking a joke. Garry and Larry joined the Army right after graduating from high school in 1964. They served together, travelling the world, from Europe to Alaska. Garry passed away Friday evening October 8, 2021, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial, NE. He was 75 years of age. Garry is preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol, and twin brother Larry Lee and his wife, Marta. Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of Rainbow Fountain Park, Benkelman; sister Launa Wiese and husband Rod of Benkelman; step-children Helen McSwain (Neal) of Benkelman; Robert Swigert of Benkelman and Tammy Showers of Council Bluffs, Iowa; several grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sandra M Wallace, 73, of North Platte, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Linden Court in North Platte. &nbsp;She was born on January 4, 1948 to Edward Gustav&nbsp;and Tana Glendora (Edelman) Brennemann at Alliance, NE. Sandy was the eldest of three children. Sandy graduated from Hyannis High School in 1966 and then went on to Patricia Stevens Career College in Denver, Co.&nbsp; In the Fall of 1973, Sandy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a Maintenance Technician and was stationed at Laughlin Air Base in Del Rio, Texas.&nbsp; After six years of active duty, Sandy made a change to Civil Service as an Air Craft Scheduler for flight maintenance until her retirement on October 31, 2008, with the exception&nbsp; of a couple of years in the 80's when they returned to Hyannis to manage the Sandhills Tack Shop.&nbsp; Then returning to Del Rio, Texas until August of 2014 at which time she moved back to Nebraska and settled in North Platte to be closer to family.&nbsp; It was in Del Rio that Sandy met her husband of 30 plus years, James R Wallace. Sandy and James were united in marriage on December 26, 1976 in Hyannis, Ne. Sandy will be remembered as always having a book she was reading, a puzzle she was putting together and an avid sports fan, especially baseball. She was also the best procrastinator you may ever meet.&nbsp; Her parents, as well as her husband, Jim Wallace, preceded her in death.
