Lee Roy Campbell, much loved Son, Brother, and Uncle, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 in Ardmore, Oklahoma at the age of 67.&nbsp;

Lee was born August 5, 1953 in Denver, Colorado to Wayne and Ruth (Krovis) Campbell and grew up in Gothenburg, Nebraska with his brother and two sisters.&nbsp; After Graduating from Gothenburg High School, Lee served honorably in the United States Navy from 1972-1975 and attended college in Kearney, Nebraska following his service in the military.&nbsp; &nbsp;Lee was an avid fisherman, history buff, and a voracious reader.&nbsp;

Lee was preceded in death by his father Wayne E. Campbell, his mother Ruth L. Nutter, his brother Jack Campbell, and his sister Peggy Craig.&nbsp;

He is survived by his sister, Geraldine N. Payne; many nieces, nephews and others.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held at 10:00 am-12:00 pm, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE.

Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Grandview&nbsp;Cemetery east of Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Burial will take place in the Grandview&nbsp;Cemetery east of Gothenburg, NE.

Roger Brand  (1942-2021)

Margaret&nbsp;Baker, of Sutherland, Nebraska died at Great Plains Health on Thursday, December 31, 2020, due to complications related to COVID-19.&nbsp; She was 73 years old.

Margaret was born March 28, 1947, to Gale and Ellen Morgan at Sutherland. She grew up on the ranch north of Sutherland and attended country schools until going to high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis where she graduated in 1965.

When she was 14 years old, Margaret started working at the Sutherland Hospital and that experience led her to a career in nursing. Margaret earned her LPN in Omaha then received her RN Degree from Great Bend, Kansas. Margaret went on to work at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney and for the Red Cross.

On December 28, 1973, Margaret was united in marriage to Gene Baker at Imperial. In 1975 the couple moved to a ranch outside of Sutherland where they raised their two children. Gene and Margaret stayed on the ranch for many years until moving into town.

Margaret was a very social and loving person. She was a gracious host and her house was always open. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially at the family ranch. This was a peaceful place for her where many memories were made socializing, fishing, and observing the abundance of wildlife.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gale and Ellen Morgan, and an infant sister.

Margaret leaves behind her husband, Gene, and daughter, Mindy Baker, both of Sutherland, NE; son, Larry (Heather) Baker, of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Alec, Morgan and Brooke Baker, Cole, Cooper, Rylee and Piper Kerner; sister, Marjorie Morgan, of Wisconsin; and other family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte, NE. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte. Judy started working right out of school, she was an amazing seamstress who did everything by hand.&nbsp; She created costumes for different people, decorated cakes, and made porcelain dolls and their clothes.&nbsp; Judy was very creative and artistic! She enjoyed gardening, loved her family, and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.&nbsp; Her life was her art and her faith in God was her special thing. Judy was preceded in death by her dad, Harold Grover; mom, Zatha Gullion; and sister, Kerry Tuma. She is survived by her children, Ty Johansen, Jeff (Christine) Johansen and Elizabeth (Jeff) Mein, all of North Platte, and Patrick (Sue Ellen Dechenne) Peters, of Pooler, GA; her stepdad, Ray Gullion, of North Platte; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryker, Benjamin, Alexander, Margaret and Kaylynn; great-grandson, Braxton; step siblings, Rochelle (Paul) Orwig, of Waco, TX, Michelle (Randy) Tornes, of Frisco, TX, and Greg (Tammy) Gullion, of Weatherford, TX; as well as other family. He loved his guinea pig, turtle and his cat. He participated in bowling, basketball and track and field in Special Olympics. He was 9-0 in bocce ball. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Eugene loved his job at Pizza Hut along with all of his co-workers and customers. He was very laid back and easy to get along with. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include parents, Kenneth and Ruth Dixon; sister, Peggy Dixon (Augie Tarango); many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., January 6, 2021 at Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland, Nebraska.

Eugene Allen Dixon  (1978-2020)

John E. Fox, age 67 of Culbertson, NE passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in Lincoln, NE

John was born April 16, 1953 in Julesburg, CO to Lewis B. and Marjorie Ruth (Smith) Fox.&nbsp; He was one of three children born to this union.&nbsp; John grew up in Big Springs, NE, and graduated from Big Springs High School in 1971.

On June 21, 1975 John married Printha L. (Bobst) Fox in Big Springs.&nbsp; They lived in Big Springs, Curtis, and in the Maywood areas in Nebraska.&nbsp; To this union three children were born.&nbsp;

In 1978, John graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE.&nbsp; Shortly after graduation, his family moved to the Culbertson community.

Over the years, John worked as a farm hand, truck driver, and feed mill worker.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, wood turning, reading, and watching his children play sports.&nbsp; He raised a variety of different animals which included miniature donkeys, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, pheasants, sheep, and goats.&nbsp; John was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Lay Leader.&nbsp; John was a member of the Prairie Statesman Barbershop Quartet, Hitchcock County 4-H Council, and MS Society.&nbsp; John was a bowhunter safety instructor and the Nebraska Representative of the Physically Challenged Bowhunters of America.&nbsp;

John loved to spend time outdoors with family and friends, camping and hunting.&nbsp; The family shares fond memories of their annual trips to Halsey National Forest for the Nebraska Bowhunter Jamboree.&nbsp; John loved his grandchildren dearly.

John is survived by his wife Printha Fox of Culbertson, NE;&nbsp; children Amanda (Tony) White of Paxton, NE, Lewis (Crystal) Fox of Lincoln, NE, and Jeffrey (Brenda) Fox of Bennet, NE;&nbsp; sisters, Judy Knoblock of Grayslake, IL and Connee (Steve) Kruml of Gordon, NE; and seven grandchildren, Isaiah, Micah, Miah, Jeremiah, Nylah, Victoriah, and Karleigh

Rodney Wayne Bowman, age 82, a longtime resident of Trenton, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife, Angie Bowman of Trenton, Nebraska; daughter, Nancy (Kyle) Nichols of Culbertson, Nebraska; daughter, Pamela Magley of Tigard, Oregon; son, Robert (Lily) Bowman of Southern California; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Donna Asher of Ohio.

Allan Dale Woodward  (1934-2020)

James Anthony Graham, age 59, passed away December 30, 2020 at his home. He was born March 7, 1961 to Phyllis and Gary Graham. He grew up in Sutherland, Nebraska and the family moved to North Platte, Nebraska when James started 8th&nbsp;grade. James became “Jim” in school attending in North Platte.

Jim was always an avid sports fan and talented athlete. He competed in baseball, basketball and football throughout his youth. He had an unbelievable memory for sports trivia. Jim was a faithful Oklahoma Sooner fan; his kids followed his dedication to the team.

Jim was a talented singer and often sang at weddings. He could play the piano by ear and enjoyed many family gatherings and singing together. He was in choir and sang in church as well. Many people called him Big Bird after his role in a junior high musical. Jim loved all kinds of music and could “name that tune” in a few notes.

Jim had a big heart and was incredibly funny. Jim was wicked smart and could recall just about anything. He left a lot of memories for his friends and family to share.

Jim graduated from North Platte High School in 1979. He attended Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska until returning to North Platte to work in food service. He lived in several states working a variety of jobs. Jim worked at Butch’s Steakhouse in Hershey, Nebraska for many years.

Jim married Denise Fisher in 1984 and to this union three children were born: Zachariah, Kyleigh and Shawn, and he also gained a daughter Michelle. Jim and Denise divorced in 1990. Denise unexpectedly passed away in 1991. Jim raised the kids in Lincoln, Nebraska and then returned to Hershey, Nebraska for the kids to attend school.

Jim had a unique ability to build genuine, life-long relationships with so many people in the community and in restaurants and bars throughout his career. He taught so many people about resiliency and strength.

Jim is survived by sons, Zach of Gillette, Wyoming and Shawn of North Platte, Nebraska; daughters, KyLeigh and Michelle of North Platte, Nebraska, and Tina Moser of Cheyenne, Wyoming; grandchildren, Denise, Anthony, Adrian, Noah, and Zane; siblings, Jenni (Mike) Benson of Lincoln, Nebraska and John Graham of Exeter, Nebraska; stepmother, LaRae Graham of North Platte, Nebraska. 

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Phyllis Wait and Gary Graham; grandparents, Harry and Millie Graham and Reta and James Cobb. Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard Alfred “Dick” Peters, age 92, of Hyannis, Nebraska passed away December 29, 2020 at Box Butte Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska. He was born April 16, 1928 to John and Lucille (Crouse) Peters in Ashby, Nebraska.

Dick was a lifelong resident of the Ashby and Hyannis area, and at age 17 went into the U.S. Navy and served during WWII.&nbsp; After his discharge he married Marcella “Sally” Paige.&nbsp; To this union three children were born: Rick, Tammy, and Robert.

Dick worked for Burlington Railroad for 10 years. He owned Dick’s Repair shop in Hyannis. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.

Dick married Sharon Henderson in 1974 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple continued to live in Hyannis.

Dick was an avid antique collector and antique car collector. He organized trail rides at the Windmill County Days for a number of years.

Survivors include three children, Rick (Risa) Peters of North Platte, Nebraska,&nbsp; Tammy DeVoogd of Alliance, Nebraska, and Robert (Melody) Peters of Alliance, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; step-children, Joyce, Jean, Jana, Clark; his horse, Divit; and several other family members and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a grandson, Waylon; his brother, Pete Peters; his sister, Sue; and a nephew, Steven.

Freda Irene Fiehler  (1933-2020)

Wesley William Esslinger, age 92, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Lexington Regional Health Center.

He was born on February 16, 1928 southwest of Elwood, Nebraska to Julius and Leona (Holst) Esslinger. Wesley received his education from Arapahoe Public Schools, graduating from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1945.

Wesley worked on the family farm until 1957, when he moved to Lexington, Nebraska and that’s where he met the love of his life on the street corner downtown, Marcella M. “Sally” Naprstek. They were united in marriage on August 30, 1959, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington and the couple were blessed with four children: Sharon, Sandra, Rick and Sherry. They made their home in Lexington, where Wesley worked at Dawson County Motors. He then went on to Delp &amp; Chandler Ford Garage before going back to Dawson County Motors and then went to Crozier Ford. Before retiring he spent the next thirteen years working for Nebraska Public Power.

Wesley’s love of racing was an understatement. If it had a motor and tires, he could tell you anything about it. He enjoyed going to the Dawson County Speedway throughout the years and every February Wes and Sally would make a trip to the Daytona 500. They enjoyed this experience and made this trip for thirty five years. His expertise in mechanic work helped lead to his love of cars and working on them. Wes was a jack of all trades. You would be in Wesley’s good gracious when it came to vehicles unless you brought up CHEVY. He also enjoyed planting his flower and vegetable garden. Visiting and spending time with his friends and family were also very valuable to him. Wes never knew a stranger and could tell a good story.

Wes was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington and was always active in church activities.

Survivors include his children, Sandie (Bob) Anderson of Lexington, Nebraska, Rick (Jill) Esslinger of Cozad, Nebraska, and Sherry (Shane) Area of Overton, Nebraska; ten grandchildren, Katie Rhodig, Lynn Forster, Korey Forster, Seth Area, Brett Area, Andrew Area, Amanda Area, Samantha Area, Steven Area and Mica Esslinger; fifteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally, daughter, Sharon Forster; sister, Rogene Tvrdy; as well as cousins and extended family.

The family would like to extend special gratitude to Vesta Liehs, Karen &amp; Steve Latter, Diana Underwood, Trudy Svoboda and the elves, Char Barron and Elaine Peck.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Ohlmann and Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating. The service will be live-streamed via the Trinity Lutheran Church Website. Face coverings will be required.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Interment will be in Elwood Cemetery east of Elwood, Nebraska.

Wesley William Esslinger  (1928-2020)

Diane Gohl, age 70, of McCook, Nebraska was surrounded by her family when she passed away Tuesday evening, December 29, 2020 at her home in McCook.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Gohl of McCook, Nebraska; father, Lowell (Barb) Gehring of Kearney, Nebraska; mother, Elaine Gehring of East Union, Iowa; daughter, Kimberly (Randy) Perlis of Aurora, Colorado; son, Nick (Julie) Fox of Elizabeth, Colorado; step-daughter, Brenda (Ryan) Khoury of Omaha, Nebraska; step-son, Neil (Sarah) Gohl of McCook, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; sister, Carolyn (Jon) Chapman of Elgin, Iowa; brother, Roger (Sandy) Gehring of Strasburg, Colorado; sister, Denise (Fritz) Walch of Postville, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Tom (Vickie) Gohl of Hayes Center, Nebraska and Rick (Bobbie) Gohl of Culbertson, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Patty Gohl of Hayes Center, Nebraska; as well as nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Norma was born February 27, 1931 in Sargent, Nebraska to Rudolf and Ellen (Kamarad) Lorenzen.&nbsp; She attended and graduated from Sargent High School.&nbsp; Following graduation Norma moved to Broken Bow and worked as a nurse’s aide at Dr. Carothers Hospital where she would meet her future husband Earl Yantzie while he was visiting a patient.

On December 24, 1950, Norma and Earl R. Yantzie were married in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; The couple moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Norma worked at the Kellogg Cereal Factory.&nbsp; In 1952, Pat, the first of their three children were born.&nbsp; The couple returned to central Nebraska, moving to Arnold, Nebraska for a short while.

Norma accepted Christ after moving back to Arnold.&nbsp; She was a member of the Mennonite Church until its closing, at which she then attended the Church of God.

In 1954, her family moved back to Broken Bow where the next two children would be born, Mike in 1955 and Cheryl in 1958.

After all, three children were in school, Norma went to work at Broken Bow Floral.&nbsp; Through the rest of her live she would continue share beautiful arrangements, ensuring the church was seasonally decorated, corsages and bouquets for her children and grandchildren’s events and even hundreds of May baskets constructed each year.

Norma would share her love of cooking with thousands of people over the years.&nbsp; As the head cook for Broken Bow Schools for 33 years until her retirement, many students will remember the kindness and love that was served along with their meal.&nbsp; Norma’s personal kitchen was always open whenever you might need a friendly chat or home cooked meal.&nbsp; You only needed to “call in your potato”, but drop-ins were always welcome too.

Norma was never one to sit still and her embroidery was always close to her chair.&nbsp; She loved attending her grandchildren’s events and after retirement was a regular volunteer at the Community Connection.

She is survived by her three children Pat (Tom) Hamilton of Ennis, Montana, Mike Yantzie and special friend Sheila Peters of Taylor, Nebraska, and Cheryl (Mike) Moody of Purdum, Nebraska; sister Erma Jean Kroeger of Grand Island, Nebraska; sister-in-law Marian Birnie of Broken Bow, Nebraska, sister-in-law Lue Yantzie of Kansas; her grandchildren: Shannon Hamilton, Lacy Wood, Mindy Dorsey, Melissa Wells, Lacy Johnson, Jeff Pflaster, Jared Pflaster, Hollie Moody, and Jack Moody; 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Carol L. Kneeland of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2020.&nbsp;

Carol was born in Denver, Colorado to parents Lavern and Bonnie (King) Schroeder on November 7, 1950.&nbsp; She went to school in Columbus, Nebraska and graduated in 1969.&nbsp; Shortly after, she married the love of her life Bryce “Arch” Kneeland on November 10, 1969.&nbsp; She had four children: Lisa, Bryce “Archie,” Jeremy, and Aubrey.&nbsp;

Carol was a homemaker until her children were out of school, then she worked several jobs outside of the home.&nbsp; She volunteered her time with the Ravenna City Council, Boy Scouts of America, and Jaycees.&nbsp; She thoroughly enjoyed fishing, traveling, and camping, with her family and was a master angler.&nbsp;

She was an animal lover, enjoyed reading, gardening, watching Husker football and spending time with her family and four grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Bryce Kneeland Sr., and father, Lavern Schroeder.&nbsp;

Carol is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bryce “Arch” Kneeland; daughter Lisa Jenison and husband Jay, grandchildren Cody and Cassidy; son Bryce “Archie” Kneeland and wife Lynn; son Jeremy Kneeland and wife Sunni, grandchildren Carter and Makenna; son Aubrey Kneeland; mother-in-law Myrl Kneeland; mother Bonnie Schroeder; sister Connie Cronin; and brother Steve Schroeder.

Carol will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.

There will be no funeral services, but a celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Daniel Lawrence Sullivan, age 59, of Broken Bow, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at his home in Broken Bow.&nbsp; He was born on April 3, 1961. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Cremation was chosen. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Daniel is survived by his sons, Steffan Sullivan of Ericson, Nebraska and Dustin Sullivan of Caldwell, Idaho; a grandson, Max of Ericson, Nebraska; his mother, Helen, of Idaho; and a sister Sharon Forrery of Idaho.

Daniel Lawrence Sullivan  (1961-2020)

Dorothy Helen Ingram of Cozad, Nebraska passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020 at Emerald Care Center in Cozad at the age of 100.&nbsp; Dorothy was born on September 27, 1920 in Cozad, Nebraska to Raymond and Hattie Scott.&nbsp; She grew up in Cozad and lived their all her life.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She met the love of her life, Leo, who she called "Beetle" in their younger years, in Cozad.&nbsp; They were married on July 4, 1939.&nbsp; Dorothy was a stay-at-home mother to her sons while Leo worked as the office manager of the Hay Mill in Cozad.&nbsp; They were married 66 years before Leo's passing.

Dorothy had been active in the Cozad United Methodist Church and Women's Circle.&nbsp; One of her favorite things to do was to talk on the phone with her friends and family, catching up.&nbsp; Saturday nights were always reserved for a dinner out at the Elk's Club for her &amp; Leo.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; two sons, Jimmy and Tom Ingram; two brothers, Jack and Bob Scott; and a grandson, Patrick Ingram.

She is survivied by her sons Doug (Mary) Ingram of Cozad, Nebraska and Richard (Carol) Ingram of South Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Ingram of Katy, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; A memorial service for Dorothy, along with her son, Thomas, who passed away on December 22, 2020 in Katy, Texas, will be held at a later date.

Ethel Mae Jones, age 94 of Elwood, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Elwood Care Center.

She was born February 22, 1926 in Plainview, Nebraska to James W. and Adeline (Homolka) Butts. She graduated from Chambers High school with the class 0f 1944. She was united in marriage to Leon E. “Jack” Jones on October 13, 1945 in Chambers, Jack preceded her in death on November 1, 2012. To this union four children were born: Sharon, Larry, Vickey and Brad. The family moved to Lexington in 1951. The family moved around in Nebraska settling back to Lexington in 1966.

Ethel worked at the Green Valley Motel in Lexington for several years, cleaning rooms. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Lexington.

She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, card playing, dancing and she and Jack were well known in Lexington for their decorations they put outside of their home for the different holidays. Ethel loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son; Brad and wife Bernadette of Kearney, daughter; Vickey and husband Frank Koehn of Johnson Lake, brother; James and wife Mary Lou Butts, of O’Neill, bother-in-law; Bob and wife Neva Jones of O’Neill, sisters-in-law; Earleen and husband Tom Moroney of Grand Island, Shirley Noble of South Sioux City, ten grandchildren and seven-teen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter; Sharon Nelson, son; Larry Jones, Granddaughter, Stacey Nelson, brother; Orin Butts, sisters; Mary Lou Bly, Mardell Heorle and son-in-law Harley Nelson.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington, NE with Pastor Michael Boling, officiating.

Ethel Mae Jones  (1926-2020)

Artie R. Johnson, age 96, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at UPH Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Artie was born on December 2, 1924 in Vernon, Alabama to Artie and Emma Johnson.

He enjoyed learning and continued his thirst for knowledge throughout his life as evidenced by his completion of studies in technology, electricity and general education. He also enjoyed politically motivated conversations as he took great pleasure in explaining the ways of the world as he saw it. His sharp wit and great sense of humor were gifts he used to make others laugh.

In 1950 he was employed as a grain elevator operator for O’Connor, Burns &amp; Skinner in Lexington, Nebraska. From this came a treasured kinship with Dennis O’Connor, Jr. that lasted a lifetime. He farmed with his father and brothers in Lexington, worked as a chauffeur in Kansas City, Missouri and he was a truck driver in Denver, Colorado. He retired from the USPS in the 90’s where he worked for several years as a supervisor/trainer in Denver, Colorado.

In 1950 he was drafted for service in the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He earned the Korean Service Medal w/5 bronze Stars-2 overseas bars, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Following the death of his younger brother in Commerce City, Colorado, Artie moved back to Lexington to live out his life on Road 755. He did so successfully until April 2020 when his health deteriorated, and he was unable to live independently.

He was moved to Iowa in June 2020 to live with family and he passed away on December 24, 2020 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa in a peaceful, supportive and loving environment.

Although Artie did not marry, he is survived and loved by nieces and nephews, Edrick Roberts, Etheleen Wright, Judy Graham, Orlando (Michele) Johnson and Emma Byrd, Waterloo, Iowa; Jayne Estell, Omaha, Nebraska; Henry (Minnie) Washington, Jr., Grand Island, Nebraska; Jackie (John) Thomas, Atlanta, Georgia; Chantrice (Bryan) McGhee, Columbus, Nebraska; Daphne Johnson, Des Moines, Iowa; Lisa Hutchins, Phoenix, Arizona. Plus, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Artie Johnson and Emma (Walker) Johnson of Lexington, Nebraska and six siblings, Roland Johnson, Commerce City, Colorado; Luther Johnson, Ethel Williams, Effie Coley, Waterloo, Iowa; Ramona Johnson, Los Angeles, California; and Flora LaJoy Washington, Grand Island, Nebraska. He was the fourth of seven children.

Johnson, age 96, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at UPH Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.Artie was born on December 2, 1924 in Vernon, Alabama to Artie and Emma Johnson.He enjoyed learning and continued his thirst for knowledge throughout his life as evidenced by his completion of studies in technology, electricity and general education. He also enjoyed politically motivated conversations as he took great pleasure in explaining the ways of the world as he saw it. His sharp wit and great sense of humor were gifts he used to make others laugh.In 1950 he was employed as a grain elevator operator for O’Connor, Burns &amp; Skinner in Lexington, Nebraska. From this came a treasured kinship with Dennis O’Connor, Jr. that lasted a lifetime. He farmed with his father and brothers in Lexington, worked as a chauffeur in Kansas City, Missouri and he was a truck driver in Denver, Colorado. He retired from the USPS in the 90’s where he worked for several years as a supervisor/trainer in Denver, Colorado.In 1950 he was drafted for service in the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He earned the Korean Service Medal w/5 bronze Stars-2 overseas bars, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.Following the death of his younger brother in Commerce City, Colorado, Artie moved back to Lexington to live out his life on Road 755. Artie R. Johnson  (1924-2020)

Virgil V. VanCleave, Sr., age 74, of McCook, NE passed away on December 25, 2020 at Hillcrest Caring Center in McCook.

Virgil was born September 15, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO to parents Virgil V. and Alberta V. (Davis) VanCleave.&nbsp; He was one of five siblings.&nbsp; Virgil moved to McCook in 1986.

Virgil enjoyed watching baseball and wrestling, playing pool and fishing. He loved old western movies and the tv show “Days of Our Lives”. Virgil was the bass player in a country music band and loved dancing to 50’s and 60’s music. While living in Missouri, he was a member of a CB Radio Club. Spending time with family was very special to Virgil.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles VanCleave; two sisters, Sheila Fisher and Rita Hahn; and lifelong friend, Donald Shyock.

Those left to celebrate his life include his son, Virgil (Bobbie) VanCleave, Jr. of Red Cloud, NE; daughters, Kim (Mark) Carpenter of St. Joseph, MO, Christina (Jason) Carter of North Platte, NE and Melissa Dawn (VanCleave) Brown of Florida; sister, Wanda (Henry) Moline of McCook; and a host of extended family members and friends.&nbsp;

Don R. “Papa” Stratton, age 79, of North Platte, Nebraska died December 25, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. He was born September 12, 1941 to Cecil and Mary (Welty) Stratton. He grew up in the Addison, New York area, and married Mary Reagan. To this union 3 daughters were born: Elizabeth, Theresa and Mitzi. Later he met Betty Mell in Colorado, and they were wed December 18, 1976 at the Mell house in Lincoln County, Nebraska. As a couple they lived on the family place in rural Lincoln County. Don and Betty had a custom hay business, he was a silver smith, making many custom buckles and wooden toys. Family was the center of his life, being called “Papa” by everyone. He had a likeable personality and made friends easy.

He is survived by his wife; Betty of North Platte, Nebraska; 2 children, Elizabeth “Liz” (Robin) Carr of Addison, New York, Jodi (Travers) Richardson of Hershey, Nebraska; son-in-law; Joe Gush of New York; grandchildren; Michael Carr of New York, Daniel (Melanie) Carr of North Carolina, Rebecca (J.P.) James "Jay" Nickerson, age 55, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on December 26, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. He was born to Ivan Nickerson and Marlene Blanchard of North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp;James spent his life in North Platte.

He was united in marriage to Diane Lundy on January 17, 1992. The couple lived in Maxwell and North Platte, NE.

Jay was involved in 4-H and high School sports with his children and enjoyed camping, boating, and outdoor sports with his family and friends and loved “Rock n Roll”.

He is preceded in death by his father; Ivan (Ike) Nickerson, and step father, Bruce Blanchard; and grandparents; Vern and Veda Nickerson.

Jay is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Nicole and Dustin from North Platte, NE; mother, Marlene Blanchard; step mother, Mary Nickerson; brother, Layne (Janeen) Nickerson; and nephew, Bryson Nickerson.
