Dennis Leach passed away on November 23, 2020 at Arnold, Nebraska, after a lengthy illness.

Dennis was born on June 9, 1949, to Robert and Margaret (Hickenbottom) Leach in the Arnold Hospital.&nbsp; The family lived on a farm between Callaway and Arnold but soon moved to a farm six miles west of Arnold.&nbsp; Dennis attended a rural school until third grade when he went to Arnold Grade School and then graduated from Arnold High in 1967.&nbsp; He then enlisted in the US Army and served three years; Ft. Huachuca AZ; Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam and Patch Barracks near Stuttgart, Germany.

After discharge from the Army, he graduated from the School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE in May 1973 with an Associate Degree in Conservation Civil Engineering.&nbsp;

Dennis and Julie Johnston of Curtis, NE were united in marriage on June 29, 1973 at St. James Catholic Church in Curtis.&nbsp;

From this union two sons were born: &nbsp;Bryan Dean and Scott Michael.&nbsp; The couple made their home in McCook, NE where he worked for Ag Technology Company as an irrigation consultant.&nbsp;

In 1976 they moved to Lincoln, NE where Dennis worked for the Lower Platte South NRD while Julie attended the University of Nebraska.&nbsp;

In 1981 the couple moved to Sherman, TX where Dennis worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers as a government representative overseeing the construction of Lake Ray Roberts and Cooper Lake in Northeast Texas.&nbsp;

The couple was divorced in 1985.&nbsp; In 1991 Dennis was transferred to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX serving in the construction division, again in a civilian status.&nbsp;

In 1993, both sons were out of high school, so Dennis resigned and set out to see the USA.&nbsp;

For the next 15 years he worked summers at various national parks and spent winters working on a retirement cottage near the family farm west of Arnold, NE.

He worked for the National Park Concessionaires in maintenance, porter, or food preparation at Grand Canyon. AZ; Zion, UT; Winter Park, CO; Yellowstone, WY; Tetons, WY; Mt. Rushmore, SD and Glacier National Park, MT.

He backpacked extensively observing wildlife up close in a natural setting and traveling to all 48 states.&nbsp;

From 2008 to 2011 Dennis worked for Rail crew Express, driving a van for UP Railroad in Bill, WY, and living in Douglas Wyoming.

May 2011, he retired to his home west of Arnold to complete the house construction and landscaping.&nbsp;

Dennis enjoyed sculpturing concrete sandcastles, bird baths and planter pots along with landscaping and establishing natural habit for wildlife and people.&nbsp;

Other hobbies were reading and writing, tossing horseshoes, and anything concerning the promotion of soccer, such as coaching, refereeing, or just preaching the merits of the game for our youth.

He is survived by his sons, Bryan (Carrie) of Flower Mound, TX and Scott (Julie) of County Kilkenny, Ireland; brothers David (Lynne), Arnold, NE; and Donald (Pam), Cleveland, OH and sister Deanna Blincow (Randy), of Pittsburg, PA.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Margaret Leach, brother and sister-in-law Dale and Carol Leach and brother Dean Leach.

Ronald LeRoy Light  (1963-2020)

Betty Olsen, age 96, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the Independence House at Northview.

She was born September 13, 1924 at Ragan, Nebraska to Leslie and Ora (Salmon) Aten. Betty grew up on a farm near Ragan and was a 1942 Ragan High School graduate.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Bob Olsen on December 6, 1942 at Ragan in a ceremony following a Sunday morning church service.

Betty and Bob lived on a farm near Ragan until 1946, when they moved to Holdrege, Nebraska, where they lived for 32 years. After graduating from high school, Betty taught school for one year and prided herself in spelling and grammar.&nbsp; They moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1978, where Betty worked at the State Capitol in the Revisor of Statutes Department, eventually being promoted to Administrative Assistant.&nbsp; After her retirement, she moved to Johnson Lake where she and Bob made many friends and enjoyed an active and productive retirement.&nbsp; Shortly after Bob’s death, Betty moved back to Lincoln to be near family and friends.

Betty had eleven brothers and sisters and growing up in a large family prepared her well for raising seven children. She was a strong, hard-working, organized woman, who was an excellent homemaker and seamstress, as well as an outstanding cook.&nbsp; After her children left home and returned to visit, she found great joy in preparing their favorite meals.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing games, cards and working word-search puzzles.

Betty had a strong belief in Jesus Christ and enjoyed reading the Bible and being involved in many Bible study groups.

Her family wished to extend special thanks for the loving care given to Betty at the Independence House at Northview.

Survivors of her immediate family include three sons and four daughters-in-law, Kenneth (Diane) Olsen of Lincoln, Gina (Craig) Olsen of Grand Island, Calvin (Barbara) Olsen of Phoenix, Arizona and Clark (Joyce) Olsen of Bellevue, Washington; three daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Newcomb of Grand Island, Candy (Gary) Fader of San Diego, California and Kristi Olsen of Lincoln.

Additional survivors include 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one sister, Doris Falk of Sun City West, Arizona; one brother, Wayne Aten of Lincoln, and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death her husband, Robert K. “Bob” Olsen, who died on April 2, 2007; her son, Craig Olsen; her parents; five brothers and four sisters; and a grandson, Eric Olsen.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Betty’s wish for cremation. A private family burial will take place at a later date at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Kathleen LeNie (Wells) Wentink, age 90, formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska, died in North Platte, Nebraska on December 1, 2020. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Kathleen was born to William Robert and rose (Hultquist) Wells on October 25, 1930 in Clay County, near Sutton, Nebraska.&nbsp; She attended school at District #9 through the 8th grade, then went on to graduated from Sutton High School in 1947, and from the Lincoln School of Commerce in 1950.&nbsp; She later received her Backelor's Degree from Doan College-Lincoln in 1990. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On april 5, 1950, Kathleen married Gayle Wentink in the Methodist Church at Saronville, NE.&nbsp; The couple lived in Lincoln, Nebraska where Kathleen worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service until retiring&nbsp; in 1992.&nbsp; She then volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital for several years and the Veteran's Hospital for 10 years. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Kathleen attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church and was a member of the Association of Retired Federal Employees.s &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rose Wells; her daughter, Kathy Kujawa; her brother, Burton Wells; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Wells. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include her husband, Gayle, of North Platte, Nebraska; sons Michael (Cathi) Wentink of North Platte, Nebraska and Jerry Wentink of Colorado; grandsons paul (Amanda) Wentink and Eric Wentink, all of Colorado, and Christopher and Nicholas Kujawa of Phoenix, Arizona; her twin brother, Kenneth Wells of Charlottesville, Virginia; as well as two great-granddaughters, a great-grandson, her nephew, niece and many other family members. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating.&nbsp; Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials are to Paws-itive Partners.&nbsp; Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore in North Platte is in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen LeNie Wentink  (1930-2020)

Arlis Jean Decker of North Platte, NE, formerly of Sutherland, NE, passed away November 29, 2020 at the age of 89. Arlis was born January 27, 1931 to Clarence Everett and Iva Faye Wilson in Hayes Center, NE.&nbsp; Arlis attended Hayes Center public schools from kindergarten through her high school graduation. She married Delaware Lewis Decker in Wauneta, NE on December 24, 1950 and their marriage was blessed with two children, Michael Lewis and Debra Jean. They lived in Potter, NE for a short time before moving to Wallace, NE where they raised their children. In 1971, they moved to Sutherland, NE.

Arlis was a devoted wife and mother and very involved in her family’s life. She faithfully spent time with her husband at the Sutherland Care Center on a daily basis until his death in 2006. Arlis had a lifelong love of music, singing, and dancing. Some of her favorite activities were visiting with friends while enjoying a cup of coffee, putting puzzles together, watching Husker Football, and attending high school basketball games. Arlis was a member of the Presbyterian church in Sutherland. Attending church, studying the bible, and prayer were very important to her. Arlis moved to North Platte, NE in 2012 and resided at Linden Care Center until the time of her death.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Pam) Decker of Omaha, NE and Debra (Ron) Gaedke of North Platte, NE; sisters-and brothers-in-law, Rick &amp; Phyllis Willerton, Linda Decker, Sonya Decker, and Dwayne Decker; grandchildren, Nick (Cara) Decker, Katie (Matt) Jackson, Bekah Decker, Kristen (Jeff) Grimes, Sarah (John) Dorwart, and Amanda (Brandon) Jobe; 14 great grandchildren, Evangeline, Rowynn, Arya, Ryne, Mattison, Kaylie, James, Kyler, Jacob, Joshua, Madelyn, Samantha, Emory, and Meredith; and two great-great grandsons, Ryker and Rayken; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters; a brother; and two great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Arlis was born January 27, 1931 to Clarence Everett and Iva Faye Wilson in Hayes Center, NE.&nbsp; Arlis attended Hayes Center public schools from kindergarten through her high school graduation. She married Delaware Lewis Decker in Wauneta, NE on December 24, 1950 and their marriage was blessed with two children, Michael Lewis and Debra Jean. They lived in Potter, NE for a short time before moving to Wallace, NE where they raised their children. In 1971, they moved to Sutherland, NE.Arlis was a devoted wife and mother and very involved in her family’s life. She faithfully spent time with her husband at the Sutherland Care Center on a daily basis until his death in 2006. Arlis had a lifelong love of music, singing, and dancing. Some of her favorite activities were visiting with friends while enjoying a cup of coffee, putting puzzles together, watching Husker Football, and attending high school basketball games. Arlis was a member of the Presbyterian church in Sutherland. Attending church, studying the bible, and prayer were very important to her. Arlis Jean Decker  (1931-2020)

Marjorie Lou Armstead, age 80, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, formerly of Cozad, Nebraska, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ November 25, 2020.

Marge was born March 18, 1940 in Clay Center, NE. At age 5, the family moved from the farm, growing up in Hastings Neb, and graduating from Hastings Senior High. She lived there until she met the love of her life Bob Armstead. They were married on March 15, 1959. They had moved to Montana for work before returning to Nebraska as the family began to grow. The family settled in Colorado for 7 years until returning to Cozad, Nebraska in 1981.&nbsp;

Wherever she lived, she had a passion for her ladies Bible studies, and the church family. The family gatherings that included her brother and sisters families, nieces and nephews, have been known to be remembered as extraordinary family lore discussions and somewhere in them aunt Margie was involved, she truly loved when the family was together.

Marge was a mom to 6 children with Vonnie Marie preceding her as an infant. She raised 4 boys and a daughter, along with supporting the family with various jobs ranging from a grocery store clerk, milking 250 head at a dairy, and lastly, employed and retired from Monroes in Cozad. Her love for her children and especially her grandchildren was a priority. She took any loving and hugging anytime she could. She is the founding president of the ABC club (Armstead by Choice) with 8 current members that somehow share the same stories. She was always quick with a witty comeback or a sharp correction. Her mind was the sharpest of all her tools, along with her physical strength and toughness.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Surviving relatives include her husband Bob, of 61 years; sister-in-law Bonnie Wendt; children Robert Jr. (wife Terri), Dean (wife Carrie), Ron, Valerie Lepird (husband Rich), and Richard (wife Carolyn). From Arizona to Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and throughout Nebraska, she always longed to see her 12 grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Antonia Wendt, her sister Betty Mihm, brother Jerry Wendt and her baby sister Carol Ann.

A Celebration of life will be held next year as conditions allow for such a gathering for family and friends.

Margorie Lou Armstead  (1940-2020)

Norman L Hollis of Gothenburg, NE passed away on November 28, 2020 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Norman was born October 7, 1937 to Grover and Gladys (Zink) Hollis in Lane County, Kansas.&nbsp; He grew up and lived in the Healy, KS area until 2004 when he moved to Gothenburg.&nbsp; Norm served his country in the US Army from 1960-1962.&nbsp; He married the love of his life Eileen Iva Bassett on January 22, 1967, of that union a daughter Carolyn was born.&nbsp; After experiencing several miscarriages, Norman and Eileen decided to adopt a baby.&nbsp; In 1975, they adopted a nine month old baby girl named Mary Lee (who was named after him, and they knew that the family was complete.&nbsp; Norman loved his family and cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Norman and Eileen were married for 36 years until she passed away from brain cancer.&nbsp;

Norman worked hard to provide for his family. He suffered a great loss when he lost the love of his life after 36 years off marriage to brain cancer in 2004. He drove a semi truck for 26 years for Dee Jay Snider and Sharp Brothers Seed Company of Healy, KS. He then went to work for a feedlot.&nbsp; Norman enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Norman served in the military from 1960-1962.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary &amp; Jeff Harbur of Gothenburg, NE, Carolyn (Jesse) Edwards of Commerce City, CO; grandchildren Jessica Schaben (Jake Sitorius &amp; Natalie), Hanna Schaben, Ashton, Brett and Brock Harbur of Gothenburg, Kortney Forbes of Sterling, CO, Michelle Forbes, and Corey Forbes, two sisters, Lillian Smith, Sharon Sutton; brother, James Hollis

Norman was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen Iva Hollis, father, Grover Hollis, mother, Gladys Hollis, nephew Harold, niece Tammi and several aunts and uncles.

Norman L. Hollis  (1937-2020)

Bertha F. Ponder, age 102, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

Bertha was born October 15, 1918, at Goehner, Nebraska to William and Cecile (Beggs) Mead.

Bertha grew up in Goehner and Hastings, Nebraska, and finished school in Hastings. She was united in marriage to Raymond Taylor on October 15, 1937 in Clay Center, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two children: Robert and Connie. The couple belonged to a flying club, as they owned their own plane. The couple loved to camp when the children were small. They went to Minnesota every summer fishing and also to Canada. They spent twenty-seven wonderful years together. Raymond preceded her in death in August of 1964. She then married Frank Ponder on August 3, 1966 in Hastings. He also preceded her in death in May of 1988.

Bertha worked for the Red Cross for several years and then worked twenty-two years at the State Hospital in Hastings as a CNA. Following her marriage to Frank, they moved to West Plains, Missouri. Bertha did her own canning for years and enjoyed growing her flowers and fruit trees. Upon the death of Frank, Bertha moved to Lexington to be near her daughter, Connie in 1988.

Bertha was a member of the Methodist Church.

She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening and making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Bertha moved to Shackley Retirement Village and enjoyed baking with her many friends. Bertha loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Robert (Sharlene) Taylor of Litchfield Park, Arizona, one daughter, Connie Kohl and companion Butch Krotz of Lexington, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, twenty-five great-great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her devoted lap cat, Calico.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, six sisters, three brothers and a son-in-law, Neal Kohl.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Parkview Cemetery at Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to the Learning Adventures Child Care Center at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska.

Suzy was born September 10, 1966 in McCook to parents Ronald G. and Colleen Mary (O’Brien) Hart.&nbsp; Suzy grew up in Indianola, NE and attended school at Republican Valley.&nbsp; She was one of four siblings born to this union. &nbsp;

Suzy married Rick Sundell in Cheyenne, WY in September of 1987.&nbsp; She later remarried Sam Mueller on April 12, 2008 in McCook where the couple made their home and Suzy worked as a caregiver for Elder Care. Over the years, Suzy lived in Indianola, Cheyenne, Hawaii and McCook. She was a member of the Church of Christ in McCook and enjoyed crafts, spending time with family, cooking, sports, Nebraska Football, golf and social gatherings. &nbsp;

Suzy was preceded in death by her parents; and her father and mother in law, Raymond &amp; Erma Mueller.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, Sam Mueller of McCook; son, Derrick Sundell of Omaha, NE; daughters, Crystal West of McCook and Katrina Mueller of Lincoln, NE; brother, Scott (Heidi) Hart of North Platte, NE; sisters, Sheila Wymer of Omaha and Stephanie (Gary) Rodgers of Arcade, NY; two grandchildren, Trinity Williams and Thedrick Harpman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.&nbsp;

Marvin L. Frank, age 92, of McCook, Nebraska died peacefully at his home in McCook on Saturday, November 28, 2020. He was born September 11, 1928 to Jesse and Gladys (Turpin) Frank in Bartley, Nebraska. He grew up on the farm near Bartley and graduated from Bartley High School in 1946.

Marvin married Elaine L. Smith in Cambridge, Nebraska on March 4, 1950 and to this union four children were born. He joined the United States Army in 1950 and served in the 1st Calvary Division in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Marvin returned to Bartley to work the family farm until being employed by CB&amp;Q Railroad in the maintenance of way department for 39 years.

He enjoyed fishing, Nebraska football, being outdoors working in his yard, and the company of his children and grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Harry E. Sr, and Opal Smith; brother, Marion (June) Frank and Gene (Vera) Frank; sisters, Marlene (Byron) Foster and Donna Mae Frank; and daughter-in-law, Tara.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine of McCook; brother, William (Evelyn) Frank of Carpenter, Wyoming; daughter, Diane (Steve) Marr of McCook; sons: Dennis Frank of Greeley, Colorado; Doug (Linda) Frank of McCook; and Scott (Jodi) Frank of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marvin L. Frank  (1928-2020)

James D. (Jim) McFarland died in his home on November 27, 2020 in Omaha, NE due to complications following pancreatic cancer. He was 73 years of age.

Jim was born on October 4, 1947 in North Platte, NE to Dale and Dorothy Jean McFarland.&nbsp; Jim grew up in North Platte and was an All-Conference football and basketball player while attending North Platte High School.&nbsp; He went on to play football for the University of Nebraska; receiving All Big 8 and All-American recognition.&nbsp; Jim graduated from UNL with a BS in Sociology in 1970.&nbsp;

Jim was the first walk-on from Nebraska drafted into the National Football League, playing five years for the St. Louis Cardinals and one year for the Miami Dolphins.&nbsp;

After returning to Nebraska to teach and coach in 1976-1977, Jim McFarland’s aspirations to become a lawyer led him to Cornell Law School in Ithaca, NY.&nbsp; Upon graduating in 1980, he went into private practice law in Lincoln, Nebraska for over 35 years, focusing on labor law and serving as a judge of the Nebraska Commission of Industrial Relations from 1993-98.&nbsp; Jim also served as a state senator for Nebraska’s 28th&nbsp;district from 1986-1991.&nbsp;

Throughout his life, Jim continued his activism and connection to football.&nbsp; In 1999, he was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.&nbsp; He served on the Former NFL Player Board of Directors for six years and as one of two former players elected to the NFLPA Executive Committee that negotiated the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFLPA and the NFL owners.&nbsp; Jim was also one of 30 former player advisors on the Football Players Heath Study at Harvard Medical School.

In 2017, Jim retired his law practice and moved to Omaha, Nebraska.&nbsp; There, he obtained his Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Creighton University.

Jim enjoyed playing chess, bike riding and reading and was always active in the community by lending his time and talents to organizations such as Toastmaster’s International.

Jim’s faith in God guided him and, in addition to being active in his church community, he lived a life dedicated to service of others.&nbsp; He was involved in the Prison Fellowship Ministry and was most recently a member of St. John’s Catholic Parish on the Creighton University campus in Omaha.&nbsp;

Jim is survived by his wife, Kim McFarland of Omaha, NE; son, Douglas McFarland and his wife Cindy Walth of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Jamie McFarland and her husband Sam Akinrinade of New York, NY; granddaughters, Della and Nova Akinrinade; two brothers, Bob McFarland and his wife Roselyn, and Mark McFarland and his wife Marcia; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

James D. 'Jim' McFarland  (1947-2020)

Joy Marie Steel of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 in North Platte. She was born December 20, 1933, in Sutherland, Nebraska to Simon &amp; Wilda (Chase) Binegar.

She attended school in Sutherland for nine and a half years. The family then moved to North Platte where she attended North Platte Senior High and graduated in 1951. On February 17, 1951, she married Wesley E. Steel in Ogallala, Nebraska.&nbsp; They lived on the Steel Ranch, northeast of North Platte, for 59 years until Wesley’s passing, where they raised their five children.

Joy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, &amp; friend.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with her family &amp; friends. She loved to dance and play cards. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking. She was a member of the Hall School Mothers’ Club, a 4-H Club leader, a timer for the Lake Maloney saddle club, a member of a bowling league &amp; and active in the DAR &amp; Christian Women’s Club.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Mark) McVey of Haigler, NE, Patricia Correll of Mitchell, NE, Eddie (Susan) Steel of North Platte, NE, and Sherri Britton of Lewellen, NE; grandchildren, Brian (Terra) McVey of&nbsp; Metamora, Illinois, Clay (Kellyn) McVey of Haigler, NE, A.J. Leo Carl Walz, age 84 of Stapleton, Nebraska died on November 27, 2020, at his home. Leo was born October 14, 1936, in North Platte, Nebraska to Carl and Regina (Becker) Walz. He graduated from Stapleton High School in 1954.

On April 20, 1960, he married Veda Charlene Deterding in Stapleton. They enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three children:&nbsp; Jeana, Denise and Rex.

Leo trucked for twelve years starting in 1958, hauling numerous loads of livestock and supplies, making friends wherever he went.

Leo and Charlene made their home ten miles south of Stapleton farming and ranching. He loved tending the land and raising cattle, along with attending grandchildren’s events.

They moved into Stapleton in 2001, but Leo's heart never left the farm and he continued going out to work up until a couple of months ago when diagnosed with lung cancer.

Leo was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Stapleton and his Catholic faith was the center point of his life including daily Mass.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vincent and Virgil, and In-Laws c.c. (Felix) and Marie Deterding.

Leo is survived by his wife, Charlene; daughter Jeana (Rex) Hanna and son Rex (Kristie) Walz all of Stapleton, and daughter Denise (Tony) Smith of North Platte, NE; nine grandchildren: Tenille (Jeff) Boyd, Derek (Todd Lewandowski, Jr.) Hanna, Sawyer (Alecia) Hanna, Trevor Hanna, Toby (Dani) Smith, Tasha Smith, Jon (Molly) Walz, Todd (Lyndi) Walz and Luke (Molly) Walz. He also had nine great-grandchildren.

Pamela&nbsp;Skinner, of North Platte, Nebraska died at Great Plains Health on November 26, 2020, at the age of 56.

Pam was born in North Platte to Larry and Dorothy (Bauer) Stoner on June 5, 1964. She grew up in Hershey, Nebraska where she graduated from high school in 1982. Pam earned her Nursing Degree from Kearney State College then went to work at Linden Manor, which later became Linden Court, until retiring. She loved what she did and Linden Court became her life.

After the death of her husband, Steve Campbell, Pam married Jon Skinner on September 24, 2004, at the Linden Court Chapel. When she wasn't working, Pam enjoyed swimming, cooking and baking and had a love for Pomeranian dogs.

She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Stoner, and her husband, Jon, of North Platte; children, Steven (Erica) Campbell, of Maryland, and Desa Campbell and Frank (Alyssa) Campbell, of North Platte; grandchildren, Nickola, Harper, Lillyana and Luna Campbell and Gabriella Dvorak; her brother, Larry (Diana) Stoner, of North Platte; sisters, Linda (Michael) Faling, of California, Deb (Warren) Smith, of North Platte, Peggy (Robert) DeCent, of Sutherland, and Deanna (Raymond) Just, of Texas; father-in-law, Robert Campbell; as well as other family.

Sheila was formerly employed at the local grocery store and as a care provider. She has also lived in Lincoln, Cozad, and Farnam in Nebraska.

Survivors include sister, Jennie Irmer of Lincoln, NE; nieces, Angela Irmer, Lisa Irmer, Shannon Irmer, of Lincoln, NE, nephew Joshua (Kayli) Irmer, Lincoln, NE&nbsp; uncle, Richard (Ardith) Weber of Cozad, NE, Wilma (Clarence) Putnam, all of Cozad; uncle Kenneth L. Brown, and five great nieces and ten great nephews, and many cousins.

Sheila was preceded in death by her father; Donzel Dewaine Flynn, mother Mildred Lucille Flynn, and brother, Douglas D Flynn, grandfather, John R Flynn, grandmother, Jenny Flynn, grandfather, Leonard Brown, grandmother, Hazel Brown and many cousins.

Graveside Services will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, November30, 2020 at the Farnam Cemetery, Farnam, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Robert Joseph Hrnchir

John Edward Santo, age 76, of Stapleton, Nebraska passed away November 25, 2020 at Hillcrest Firethorn in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born on March 7, 1944 at Stapleton to John E. and Margaret Becker Santo. He grew up on the family farm outside of Stapleton, Nebraska and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1962.&nbsp; He then entered the U.S. Navy and was aboard the USS Wasp.

He was united in marriage to Connie Lynn Bradford on April, 11 1970 in Boston, Massachusetts and then moved back to Stapleton, NE where they lived their lives on the family farm until 2005 when they moved to town.

John was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He loved gardening and enjoyed giving away his produce and had “Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch.” He was known at the UPRR as “The Mayor of The Garfield Table.” John especially loved playing Santa Claus for children.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and daughters, Corey Bergsten and Kimberly Santo.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie; son, John (Kathryn) Santo; daughter, Bobbi Jo (Randy) Brening; son-in-law, Lamar Bergsten; grandchildren, Lacey Carson, and Libby Bergsten; brother, William (Kathy) Kramer; sisters, Jean Cronin, Patricia (Russ) Finney, Kerri (Tim) Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be 10:00a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, Nebraska with The Reverend Joshua Brown celebrating. Burial will follow at Saint John’s Catholic Cemetery in Stapleton; NE. Visitation will be from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Monday, November 30 with Rosary following at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

John Edward Santo  (1944-2020)

Ilene (Johnson) Blattner, age 90, of Cozad, Nebraska died at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad on November 25, 2020.

Ilene was one of 10 children born to Albert and Hilma Johnson. She was born on September 22, 1930, south of Brady, Nebraska. When she was 4, the family moved into town and she went on to graduate from Brady High School in 1948.

Ilene taught country school then went to Chicago where she got a job with United Airlines. Her work with the airline included making reservations and answering phones. She enjoyed what she did and was later transferred to Denver.

While in Denver she met Donald Blattner and the two were married on June 1, 1958, in Gothenburg, Nebraska. They lived in Denver where they built their home then later moved to Cozad to be closer to Ilene's family.

Ilene eventually went back to school to be a teacher. She received her B.A. in Education from Denver University and her Master's Degree from Kearney State College and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. Her teaching career took her to Douglas, WY, Salem, MO, Ft. Collins, CO, and Big Springs. She taught the upper grades in elementary schools then became a principal before retiring and returning to Nebraska. Ilene enjoyed teaching so much she became a substitute teacher in the Cozad and Lexington areas and taught piano lessons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and his son, Martin Blattner; her parents, Albert and Hilma Johnson; brothers, Stanley and George Johnson; and sisters, Mabelle Krekeler, Louise Davis, Amy Johnson, Violet Williams, Alice Liljestrand and Helen Trusty.

Survivors include her brother, Arnold (Ruth) Johnson, of Colorado Springs; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

In keeping with Ilene's wishes, she will be buried in the Morrison Cemetery, outside of Denver, Colorado. Cards of condolence may be sent to her niece, Elaine Dobson, PO Box 104, Cozad, NE 69130.

Janet was born in Mason City, NE on September 9, 1934 and later moved to Douglas, WY before her parents purchased the ranch south of Valentine, NE in 1942 where she&amp; Bob live today. Janet attended a one room country school and entered High School as a freshman in Valentine, NE.&nbsp; After graduation, she attended Loretta Heights College in Denver, CO and did her intern work for Medical Technology at Glockner Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO.

Janet &amp; Bob lived under the Dam at Ogallala, NE as the four boys grew up and she taught school at Arthur, NE and Rosco, NE earning education classes through Kearney, NE and Chadron, NE. From there she earned her Bachelor Degree.Janet married Bob Grabher in March of 1974.&nbsp; In 197 they moved to her parent's ranch south of Valentine, NE where they have lived for 46 years.

Bob &amp; Janet have four sons, Dean (Cindy) who lives on the ranch and as she and Bob have retired, they are proud to pass the ranch on to Dean.&nbsp; Dick (Mary) who lives in Phoenix, AZ and loves the hot weather where he trains horses. Don (Melissa) is a banker in Dessmit, SD and Dan (Jennifer) lives in Valentine, NE and works for Land O Lakes Purina. They have 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The grandkids range from college students to bankers, attorneys, UNL employees, nurses, etc. Still trying to interest someone into being a doctor but several are still in college so. . . maybe!

Janet had taught for 40 years with several breaks in between. She also managed the Visitor Center at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge for 7 years.

They have an annual Charolais Bull Sale and have commercial cattle on the ranch. They do a lot of Embryo Transfer work on the ranch and in the past have shown our cattle in multiple states. This has been a highlight in their lives ranging to conventions, showing cattle, and delivering bulls. They always tried to stop off at Branson, MO, the Kansas City Arch or someplace on the way home. Many good friendships have been established all over the US with their Charolais friends.

Jane &amp; Bob have Husker season tickets so they spend a lot of their time following games and went to Green Bay, WI to watch a Packers game. They have a 36 foot Montana Mountaineer 5th wheel and have traveled in almost every state. Lots of diesel and lots of fun. A great way to see the USA. Some of their trips have been to Alaska and Canada, up and down the full East and West Coasts, twice to Washington, DC, Gettysburg, Nashville, Memphis and Vicksburg, Grand Canyon, the Tetons, Yellowstone and the Black Hills, balloon festivals in Albuquerque, the National Cemetery in Vicksburg and then to see Andersonville and everything in between.

Every morning when Janet looks out her window, she sees deer, geese, turkeys, pheasants, ducks, cows etc. and she is glad to live in the great state of Nebraska and in beautiful Cherry County, Nebraska.&nbsp; 

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Graydon and Gladys Holm Anderson and 1 sister, Joyce Buvk.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; and 4 sons, Dean, Dick, Don and Dan.

Graveside service for Janet Grabher age 86 of Valentine will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28th&nbsp;at 2:00 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine.&nbsp; Visitation will be on Friday, at 3 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines.&nbsp; Mrs. Grabher passed away on Nov. 21 in Valentine.&nbsp; Memorials may be made to the Sandhills Prairie Refuge Association or the Valentine Berean Bible Church.
