Marlon Jay Prottsman was born September 20, 1954, at Grant, Nebraska, to Wayne and Eunice (Behrens) Prottsman.&nbsp; He grew up and attended school in the Venango area, graduating from Venango High School in 1972.&nbsp; He continued his education at Mid- Plains Community College in their welding program.&nbsp; Marlon was inducted the US Navy in August of 1973, serving in the Seabees.&nbsp; After his discharge in May of 1976, he returned to the family farm south of Venango assisting his family in the farming operation.&nbsp; Marlon joined the Peace Corp which took him to Swaziland, Africa, where he served for three years.&nbsp; He then returned to Venango and bought the local bar naming it the “Swazi Bar” after his service in Africa, which he owned for ten years.&nbsp; Marlon gained employment with the U.S. Postal Service as mail carrier serving Grant and Venango for over ten years.&nbsp; He really loved his position, driving around the three counties he covered. On February 20, 2003, Marlon married Barbara Kay Jensen, in Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Venango until moving to Imperial, Nebraska, in 2014. Marlon was a man who loved to meet people and to hear their stories.&nbsp; He had the most infectious laugh and smile.&nbsp; He wanted to hear stranger’s stories everywhere he went and made friends usually with a Heineken in his hand.&nbsp; Marlon was the kind of guy that would tell you exactly what he felt, and if you listened to him, he would tell you about his love for the freedom we have in America and how thankful he was for that.&nbsp; He would always listen to you and have a chuckle at the end.&nbsp; He was the type to find joy in life and enjoyed little kids (if they smiled and laughed at him, it would make his day).&nbsp; He found commonality with the tribe he served in Swaziland, during his Peace Corp years.&nbsp; He loved connecting with people and ideas. Rich Broome, age 61, of Sutherland, died unexpectedly at Great Plains Health on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

Rich was born April 15, 1959 and since his dad was in the military, Rich lived in many places including Alaska, Japan and Maryland, and when he was done with school he too joined the military.&nbsp; Rich served in the U.S. Marine Corps. and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in action following the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon.

Following his discharge, Rich moved to Maryland, got married, had kids and sold cars. He later moved to West Virginia and North Carolina where he did landscaping then to New Mexico and eventually Nebraska where he sold cars. Rich settled in Sutherland and just recently started working at Malines Super Foods.

Rich liked fishing, shooting guns, and fireworks. On the 4th of July he liked putting on a show with the brightest and loudest fireworks he could find. Rich was proud of his service to our country and proud to be a Marine! He was also an avid Notre Dame fan who especially enjoyed chiding Nebraska fans about the rivalry.

In the last few years Rich enjoyed spending time with his girlfriend, Susan Seifer. He loved spoiling her and taking care of her, Rich would do anything for her. He also loved his grandkids, they were so special to him.

Rich is survived by his daughters, Ashley Broome (Shaun Ramey), of Sutherland and Caitlin Broome, of West Virginia; his significant other, Susan Seifer, of Sutherland, and her children, Hannah (Ryan) Bruna and Halie Fleecs, of Kearney, and Nathan Fleecs, of Ft. Brag, NC; grandchildren, Liam and Kiera Ramey; a sister and three brothers; as well as other family.

Shirley Jean Junker, age 87, of Indianola, Nebraska passed away peacefully on October 12, 2020 at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte, Nebraska. She was blessed to be able to be with her granddaughter and talk with her family in her final hours.&nbsp;

Shirley was born in Torrington, Wyoming on August 8, 1933 to Walter W.&nbsp; and Rosella Fern Day.&nbsp; Shirley grew up in McCook, Nebraska where her father worked for the railroad.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 1950, Shirley married Willian (Bill) Potts of Indianola and together they raised seven children.&nbsp; They started their family in Cambridge, Nebraska and then moved to Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, and eventually back to Indianola.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In 1996, Shirley married Thomas Junker of Indianola.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shirley enjoyed music and frequently spoke of tap dancing and singing in her youth. She loved to talk about Jesus, her family, and her pets. Shirley regularly attended McCook Christian Church and enjoyed bringing treats to the children.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Fern Day; brother, Harold Day; sister, Elaine Potts;&nbsp;husbands, William (Bill) Potts and Thomas Junker; daughters, Linda Mustion and Diane Nash; and son-in-law, Wesley Nash.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shirley is survived by daughters, Kay (Larry) Brew of Austin, TX, Judy (Randy) Ekx of Kersey, CO, Cindy Schluckebier, of Bartley, NE; sons, Bill Potts of Kersey, CO, Walter (Judy) Potts of Stillwater, MN; and son-in-law, Richard Mustion of Hershey, NE.&nbsp; Shirley is also survived by her grandchildren, Candi (Bill) Burrows, Tim (Renee) Miller, Tonya (David) Nielson, Tiffany (Tyson) Dilka, Chantz (Lindsay) Nash, Jessica (David) McKay, Amanda Snide, Amanda (Michael) Daniels, Sammi Potts, Ashley (Seth) Saf, Sophie Schluckebier and 18 great-grandchildren.

Doris was born in Sutherland, NE to the proud parents of Lester E and Ruth I Kissinger.&nbsp; She grew up in Rantoul, Illinois with stops in Morocco, Africa, Chelseywood, England, before settling down and graduating from Hershey High School with the class of 1967.&nbsp; Upon graduation she lived in Denver, Colorado where she went to business school.&nbsp; Life then took her to Tyler, Texas where she met Frank Shuhart, they married on October 21, 1976.&nbsp; She then went to work for the city of Tyler until she retired.&nbsp; In 2014 she moved back to North Platte to be closer to her family.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents, a sister Kathy and brother, Rick. Survivors include her daughter Sharilyn Kay-Sweet, Rapid City S.D., brother; Lester E (Shirley) Kissinger of North Platte, along with several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

William 'Bill' E. Froman (1944-2020)

Dean Sprague, age 80, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away at Centennial Park&nbsp;Retirement Village in North Platte on October 11, 2020. Dean was born to Perry and Annie Sprague in Holdrege, Nebraska on June 27, 1940.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Holdrege High School, and later from BusinessManagement Schooling. Dean met the love of his life, Carrie Combs, in Holdrege and they were united in marriage on December 1, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; While living in Kansas City, they had the first two of&nbsp; three children, Scott in Jan. 1961, and Shayne in Dec. 1963. It wasn't until 1971 when Shannon was born. Dean had a varied career, first working for his dad at his gas station and later, his dad's T.V., radio, and electrical repair shop. He would go on to work for companies such as Ronson Lighter Company, Gambles, and&nbsp;several others.&nbsp; Dean moved around during his career to such places as&nbsp;Kansas City, MO, Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, Aurora, CO, and finally, North Platte, NE in 1971, where he made his home for the rest of his life. While in North Platte, Dean worked as a salesman at Sears, and would later install all the chain link fence that Sears sold, which was miles of fencing.&nbsp; He also worked for the North Platte Telegraph as a rural route carrier, was a projectionist at the Fox Movie Theater, and owned and operated Platte Repair, which was in the rear of the Platte Barber Shop on Dewey Street, and later relocated to the 100 block of West 5th Street. He could repair everything that is mostly just thrown away these days, including T.V.'s, radios, blenders, shavers, can openers, lamps, and nearly anything else electrical.&nbsp; Dean later worked as an electrician in the Union Pacific Diesel Shop for 17 years, up until the mid 90's.&nbsp; He also started and operated Professional Heating &amp; A/C with his son, Shayne, from 1995-2000, after which he retired and enjoyed his time&nbsp;with his wife and family. Dean could fix just about anything and built his own house in the early 80's and remodeled several homes aside from that.&nbsp; He was a very kind hearted man that would do anything for anybody, and was always doing something for somebody.&nbsp; He was known for his great sense of humor, tremendous physical strength, and his constant teasing and harassing of just about everyone he came across.&nbsp; While at the railroad, he was infamous for his "bear hugs". He'd get his arm around your neck, pull you in, and plant a kiss on your cheek, and there wasn't much you could do about it because of his strength. In his final years, Dean was infamous for constantly passing out Lifesavers to everyone, he always ensured that his pockets were full of the candy to hand out. Dean was also a man of great faith, and he lived his life accordingly. Always a fair, honest, and just man that stood up for what he believed in and for what was right.&nbsp; He and Carrie took their daughter, Shannon, into their home during her last 6 months on earth after a long back and forth battle with cancer. They loved and cared for her until the day she died in the recliner in their living room in 2013. Neither Dean nor Carrie ever got over the loss of their beloved daughter, but they were grateful to have had that final time with her. Dean and Carrie were very much in love with each other, and if you ever saw them together, that fact was obvious and noticeable. Dean's legacy will be how he treated everybody and instilled in his children to "Treat Others As You Want To Be Treated."&nbsp; He did, indeed, live his own life in that manner.&nbsp; Dean was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Along with his daughter, Shannon, Dean was preceded in death by his father, Perry; mother, Annie; and sister, Doris Nelson. Survivors include his wife, Carrie of North Platte, NE; his sons, Scott (Cheryl) Sprague, of Jerome, ID and&nbsp;Shayne (Jessica) Sprague, of Brady, NE; former but still part of the family,daughter-in-law, Tami Sprague, of Morrison, CO; 8 grandchildren, 15&nbsp;great-grandchildren and other family. Kelly Lynn Boyer, age 57, of North Platte, Nebraska died at home October 12, 2020. Kelly was born to Jimmy and Kay (Trumbull) Boyer on August 19, 1963, at North Platte where he grew up.&nbsp; Following his high school graduation, Kelly joined the U.S. Marine Corp.&nbsp; After receiving a medical discharge, he returned to North Platte and worked in maintenance for Sands Motor Inn.&nbsp; Kelly was later in charge of helping build the Oak Tree Inn then did flooring work, laying carpet, tile and wood.&nbsp; He continued working until he became disabled and had to quit. Kelly was an outdoors man.&nbsp; At the age of 2, he started hunting with his dad and that became a lifelong experience which he loved.&nbsp; Along with hunting, Kelly liked fishing and trapping and always had a dog around.&nbsp; He also liked teaching people how to tile and enjoyed going to rehab. He was preceded in death by his dad, Jim; grandparents, Douglas and Henrietta Trumbull and Gerald and Mildred Boyer; aunt, Pat Barnum; and&nbsp;uncles, Buz and Tim Boyer. Gertrude was born at North Platte, Nebraska to Louis and Bertha (Williams) Bayne&nbsp;on October 13, 1924, and grew up south of Stapleton, Nebraska. After graduating&nbsp;from Stapleton High School, Gertrude attended Kearney Normal School.&nbsp;&nbsp;She taught at several country schools in different communities. On August 8, 1948, Gertrude was united in marriage to Lawrence Harold Stewart at her parents home and the couple made their home on the ranch.&nbsp; Gertrude was a ranch wife all her life. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Gertrude enjoyed sewing&nbsp;and when the kids were young, she made their clothes. She sewed at the&nbsp;church on Tuesdays, making many quilts.&nbsp; She also enjoyed art club, and helping with the Nebraskaland Days Art Show for many years.&nbsp; Gertrude&nbsp;was also active in 4-H as a leader and spent many years helping at the fair. Gertrude had a good, long life and leaves behind her sons, James (Linda) Stewart, of North Platte, Nebraska, Roger (Ronda) Stewart, of Dunning, Nebreaska and Forrest&nbsp;(Cindy) Stewart, of Cody, Nebraska; daughters, Laura Stewart, of North Platte, and&nbsp;Verlaine Stewart, of El Paso, TX; sisters, Norine Stewart, of McCook, Nebraska,&nbsp;Luetta Millheim, of Hickman, Nebraska and Bertha Thomas, of North Platte; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 9 great great-grandchildren, and&nbsp;other family. Gertrude Mae Stewart  (1924-2020)

Wilber L. Kuenning of Imperial, Nebraska passed away on October 9, 2020 from Coronavirus. He was born February 18, 1922 in Unadilla, Nebraska to Oscar &amp; Myrtle Kuenning. The fifth of 12 children, he was raised by a single mother. He started working for wages at the age of 10, always giving a portion of his earnings to his mother. He married Doris E. Schroeder of Grant, Nebraska on November 22, 1944. He would often tell that he moved to Southwest Nebraska with $35 in his pocket. Wilber &amp; Doris started married life renting a farm from Frank &amp; Bertha Osler at Elsie, Nebraska. In 1953, Wilber &amp; Doris purchased a farm 12 miles north of Imperial, Nebraska still referred to as the “home place.” He &amp; Doris worked hard to manage diversified crops, a feed-lot, &amp; a cow-calf herd. Wilber was proud to be a rancher and a farmer and was proud of what the Sandhills could produce. He thought being a farmer &amp; rancher was the best job in the world! He loved the wide-open spaces and educated himself by being a careful observer of nature. He retired from farming in 1987 when he &amp; Doris moved to a house on Douglas St in Imperial, but continued driving out to the farm every day, spending many hours doing what he loved &amp; often getting himself in trouble with his wife who wanted him to spend more time with her at their home in Imperial! He always knew what was going on at the farm &amp; what everyone was doing. Even when he was in the COVID unit in the Grant hospital, he had a conversation with son Jerry to find out what was going on at the farm. Wilber and Doris moved to an assisted living apartment in the Imperial Parkview Heights in 2006, when Doris needed Alzheimer’s care. Before the COVID quarantine, it was sometimes difficult to find a time to talk with him; if he was in the middle of playing a game of cards, bingo, Yahtzee or another activity, he would seldom answer his phone. He continued to reside in the same assisted living apartment until he tested positive for the Coronavirus in early October and was transported to the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant, Nebraska. He greatly appreciated the care he received from his caregivers at Imperial Heights. Wilber helped build the new United Methodist Churches in both Grant &amp; Imperial. He could donate either money or labor, and because of lean times, he chose to donate his labor. Religion was important in his life, he recently received a 60 year membership pin and this year was recognized as the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church in Imperial. Wilber held several offices of the Lone Star, District #24 school board, including board president the year the school closed &amp; consolidated with Imperial Schools. He served on the boards of the Chase County Soil Conservation Service, testifying to the Nebraska State Legislature the importance of keeping the Upper &amp; Lower Republican Rivers as separate water districts. He was also on the boards of the United Methodist Church, Federal Land Bank &amp; the Rural Fire Dept. Always a promoter of 4-H &amp; FFA, he received the Chase County Friends of 4-H Award and was awarded Honorary Memberships by both the Imperial &amp; Nebraska FFA Chapters. He entered the Nebraska Corn Husking Competition several years &amp; the last year would have been a champion but he entered himself in the wrong age category! Wilber loved the Chase County Fair, and he spent hours attending various events and visiting with acquaintances, young and old. Over the years, he enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren &amp; especially his great grandchildren show livestock. He proudly participated in the Chase County Fair parades 3 different years, driving a restored International Regulator, riding his 3-wheel tricycle, &amp; driving his first new tractor, a restored 1945 Model M, accompanied by his grandchildren and/or great grandchildren. Dancing was another favorite activity of Wilber’s; continuing the family tradition, when the last granddaughter, Kelly, was married in July he was surrounded by the bride, daughters, daughter-in-law, granddaughters &amp; great granddaughters, bringing tears to the eyes of many. He was a member of a neighborhood card club for over 60 years. Family, immediate and extended, were very important to Wilber. He enjoyed his grandchildren &amp; great grandchildren &amp; was quick to tell them how proud he was of them.

 </figure>Wilber L. Kuenning of Imperial, Nebraska passed away on October 9, 2020 from Coronavirus. He was born February 18, 1922 in Unadilla, Nebraska to Oscar &amp; Myrtle Kuenning. The fifth of 12 children, he was raised by a single mother. He started working for wages at the age of 10, always giving a portion of his earnings to his mother. He married Doris E. Schroeder of Grant, Nebraska on November 22, 1944. He would often tell that he moved to Southwest Nebraska with $35 in his pocket. Wilber &amp; Doris started married life renting a farm from Frank &amp; Bertha Osler at Elsie, Nebraska. In 1953, Wilber &amp; Doris purchased a farm 12 miles north of Imperial, Nebraska still referred to as the “home place.” He &amp; Doris worked hard to manage diversified crops, a feed-lot, &amp; a cow-calf herd. Wilber was proud to be a rancher and a farmer and was proud of what the Sandhills could produce. He thought being a farmer &amp; rancher was the best job in the world! He loved the wide-open spaces and educated himself by being a careful observer of nature. He retired from farming in 1987 when he &amp; Doris moved to a house on Douglas St in Imperial, but continued driving out to the farm every day, spending many hours doing what he loved &amp; often getting himself in trouble with his wife who wanted him to spend more time with her at their home in Imperial! He always knew what was going on at the farm &amp; what everyone was doing. Even when he was in the COVID unit in the Grant hospital, he had a conversation with son Jerry to find out what was going on at the farm. Wilber and Doris moved to an assisted living apartment in the Imperial Parkview Heights in 2006, when Doris needed Alzheimer’s care. Before the COVID quarantine, it was sometimes difficult to find a time to talk with him; if he was in the middle of playing a game of cards, bingo, Yahtzee or another activity, he would seldom answer his phone. He continued to reside in the same assisted living apartment until he tested positive for the Coronavirus in early October and was transported to the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant, Nebraska. He greatly appreciated the care he received from his caregivers at Imperial Heights. Wilber helped build the new United Methodist Churches in both Grant &amp; Imperial. He could donate either money or labor, and because of lean times, he chose to donate his labor. Religion was important in his life, he recently received a 60 year membership pin and this year was recognized as the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church in Imperial. Wilber held several offices of the Lone Star, District #24 school board, including board president the year the school closed &amp; consolidated with Imperial Schools. He served on the boards of the Chase County Soil Conservation Service, testifying to the Nebraska State Legislature the importance of keeping the Upper &amp; Lower Republican Rivers as separate water districts. He was also on the boards of the United Methodist Church, Federal Land Bank &amp; the Rural Fire Dept. Always a promoter of 4-H &amp; FFA, he received the Chase County Friends of 4-H Award and was awarded Honorary Memberships by both the Imperial &amp; Nebraska FFA Chapters. He entered the Nebraska Corn Husking Competition several years &amp; the last year would have been a champion but he entered himself in the wrong age category! Wilber loved the Chase County Fair, and he spent hours attending various events and visiting with acquaintances, young and old. Over the years, he enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren &amp; especially his great grandchildren show livestock. He proudly participated in the Chase County Fair parades 3 different years, driving a restored International Regulator, riding his 3-wheel tricycle, &amp; driving his first new tractor, a restored 1945 Model M, accompanied by his grandchildren and/or great grandchildren. Dancing was another favorite activity of Wilber’s; continuing the family tradition, when the last granddaughter, Kelly, was married in July he was surrounded by the bride, daughters, daughter-in-law, granddaughters &amp; great granddaughters, bringing tears to the eyes of many. He was a member of a neighborhood card club for over 60 years. Family, immediate and extended, were very important to Wilber. Wilber L. Kuenning  (1922-2020)

Steven Lee Weaver, age 30, of McCook, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 8, 2020 in rural Indianola, Nebraska.

Steven was born October 12, 1989 in Cambridge, Nebraska to parents Kenneth L&nbsp;&nbsp;Weaver, Sr. and Michelle “Shelly” (Manzer) Adams.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was one of six children.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On May 18, 2012, Steven married Tai-Lynn M. (Rae) Weaver.&nbsp;&nbsp;Steven became a step father to son Nicklas Thomas and together with Tai, he was blessed with two daughters, Evylynn and Mia.

Steven had recently begun a tree removal service, KW and Son’s Tree Service, with his father, Ken. In his free time, Steven enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his jeep.&nbsp;&nbsp;He had a love of travel which included hill climbing in the mountains.&nbsp;&nbsp;Steven attended the Red Willow Cowboy Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Steven was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Tai Weaver and children, Nicklas Thomas and Evylynn and Mia Weaver, all of McCook; father, Kenneth Weaver, Sr. of Overton, NE; mother, Shelly Adams of McCook; brothers, Kenneth (Jess) Weaver, Jr of Cambridge, NE and Kaden Weaver of Overton; sisters, Deatta Weaver of Ogallala, NE, Courtney (AJ) Hettinger of Hastings, NE and Mackenzie Weaver of Denver, CO; maternal grandparents, Jack Manzer of Omaha, NE and Anita Hansen of McCook; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and extended family members.

He was born on September 3, 1938 to Jacob and Reka (Burken) Eyten in Hastings, Nebraska.

Don was united in marriage to Leona Burch on May 24, 1959 in North Platte, Nebraska. To this union, a daughter, Christine, was born.&nbsp; The couple lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and returned to North Platte four years ago.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Don is survived by his wife, Leona; daughter, Christine (Vern) Boone; grandchildren, Tracy Helvie, Hastings, NE, Melissa (Dan) Shults of North Platte, NE, Floyd Helvie Jr. (Kimberly) of North Platte, NE: six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Angelia Hagan of North Platte, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister-in-law’s, Gerhard and Jannie Eyten , Raymond and Joyce Eyten and sister, Margie Eyten.

Lydia Sisneros  (1930-2020)

James Edward Kaspari, age 83, of Sutherland, Nebraska passed away October 6, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska.

He was born in York, Nebraska on July 16, 1937 to Louis Vincent and Helen Marie Kaspari. He attended country school and St. Joseph High School. After graduation he worked with his dad on their farm and in 1955 began employment with Geis Irrigation in Nebraska and Kansas.

Jim was drafted into the Army in 1961 and after basic training; he attended Fort Holabird Intelligence School in Baltimore and later served in the 702nd Intelligence Corps, 3rd&nbsp;Army until his discharge in 1963.

He returned to his employment with Geis and worked in sales and management at several of their locations for 30 years. Jim’s last employment before he retired in 2013 was with Titan Industries as operations manager at their Paxton, Nebraska location where he worked for 21 years.

In 1994, Jim married Pearl Brady. They made their home in Sutherland.

He is survived by his wife Pearl of Sutherland; 2 sisters, Rita Owens of McPherson, KS and Dorothy (Steve) Ulrey of Houston, TX; Jim’s closest nephew, Jeff Owens of Denver, CO; and numerous nephew’s and nieces.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bernard; and brother in law, Johnny Owens.

Burial of ashes will be 9:00 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2020 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska with Full Military Honors. Memorial Services will be 11:00a.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Doug Lee officiating. A book signing will be on Thursday, October 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

James Edward 'Jim' Kaspari  (1937-2020)

George Deertz, Jr., age 87, of North Platte, Nebraska died at Great Plains Health in North Platte on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

George was born to George, Sr. and Mary Deertz on December 19, 1932, at Dupree, South Dakota. The family later moved to Nebraska where George graduated from Grand Island High School in 1950.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in ‘56, George returned to Nebraska and moved to North Platte in 1957. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 33 years until retiring in 1984.

George was married and blessed with three children, Neil, Keven and Laurie. His second marriage was to Opal Brue in 1986. They were together for nearly 30 years when she died.

George was a member of Masonic Lodge #33 in Grand Island and Platte Valley Lodge #32 AF&amp;AM in North Platte.

He is survived by his children, Neil (Brenda) Deertz, of North Platte and Keven (Heather) Deertz, of San Diego, CA; sister, Theodora (Leo) Oltman, of Belleville, KS; grandsons, David and Ryan Deertz; and other family.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; daughter, Laurie Deertz; parents, George, Sr. and Mary; brother, Duane; and sister, Coleen Smith.

Graveside service with military honors will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.  </figure>George Deertz, Jr., age 87, of North Platte, Nebraska died at Great Plains Health in North Platte on Sunday, October 11, 2020.George was born to George, Sr. and Mary Deertz on December 19, 1932, at Dupree, South Dakota. The family later moved to Nebraska where George graduated from Grand Island High School in 1950.He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in ‘56, George returned to Nebraska and moved to North Platte in 1957. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 33 years until retiring in 1984.George was married and blessed with three children, Neil, Keven and Laurie. His second marriage was to Opal Brue in 1986. They were together for nearly 30 years when she died.George was a member of Masonic Lodge #33 in Grand Island and Platte Valley Lodge #32 AF&amp;AM in North Platte.He is survived by his children, Neil (Brenda) Deertz, of North Platte and Keven (Heather) Deertz, of San Diego, CA; sister, Theodora (Leo) Oltman, of Belleville, KS; grandsons, David and Ryan Deertz; and other family.George was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; daughter, Laurie Deertz; parents, George, Sr. and Mary; brother, Duane; and sister, Coleen Smith.Graveside service with military honors will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. George Deertz, Jr.  (1932-2020)

Marilyn Mae Gugelman of Stockville, Nebraska passed away from cancer on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, Nebraska. &nbsp;She was 88 years young.

Marilyn was born on July 29, 1932 to Clarence and Grace (Wilson) Woodring.&nbsp; Marilyn, along with her older siblings, Marvin and Merna, was raised on a farm north of Stockville on the edge of the Medicine Creek.&nbsp; They rode the family horse to school and had a great time on the banks of the creek if it wasn’t flooding.&nbsp; Then they had several close calls.

Marilyn graduated in 1949 at the age of 16 from Stockville High School.&nbsp; She then attended Kearney Normal Summer School and Marilyn began her teaching career at a country grade school near where her current farm home is, at the ripe old age of 18.

Marilyn married Donald Dale Gugelman at the Stockville Courthouse on May 24th, 1953. They moved to the Gottlieb Gugelman farmstead and began their lifelong journey of farming and loving and raising all kinds of different animals and poultry. They soon started their family of human children and continued for 18 years until they had a houseful of five.&nbsp; They were very concerned and caring of all children, so some holidays they would have many extra children in the house.&nbsp; Marilyn just stretched the table out and added more plates.

Marilyn was a jack of all trades, and did a lot of the home repair, driving tractors, doctoring animals and children or whatever needed doing.&nbsp; She especially loved her big gardens, flowers and trees.&nbsp; She nursed many birds and wild animals back to health.&nbsp; Marilyn devoted most of her time to her home and family, but still had time to teach a couple years after she had children and worked briefly at the Stockville Courthouse.

Marilyn spent all her life volunteering.&nbsp; She was a member of the Stockville Congregational Church and Fellowship Group, Bible Study, Stockville Women’s Club, Hobby Club, and Friendship Circle Card Club.&nbsp; In her younger years she was very active in 4-H as a leader and 4-H judge at the county fair.&nbsp; She spent each year planning her exhibits for the fair so there would be lots of crafts, canning and gardening exhibits for people to see. Her baby quilts even made it in 2020 in spite of her health and Covid-19.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Gugelman; her much loved older sister, Merna Schleeman; and her grandson-in-law, Rob Brown; as well as her older brother, Marvin Woodring, passed away two hours after Marilyn did.

Surviving Marilyn are her daughters, Cheryl and husband Tim Teel, Deb and husband Mark Shirley, Teresa and husband Tracy Gardner; sons, Marty and wife Christy Gugelman and Steven Gugelman.&nbsp; He grandchildren include Tiffany and Jay Waldron, Laura and Alex Pollack, Casey and Jamie Gugelman, Josh Shirley, Kendra and Zach Robinson, Brett and Megan Teel, Jordan Gardner and Sierra Kurth, Colyn, Noah, and Brodee Gugelman, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her passing will leave a huge hole in her family and community.&nbsp;

Marilyn Mae Gugelman  (1932-2020)

Vernon F. Meyerott, 96, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Johnson Lake, Nebraska,&nbsp; passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Millard, Nebraska.

He was born on December 8, 1923 in Coleridge, Nebraska to John and Theresa (Laufer) Meyerott. Vernon received his education from Coleridge Public Schools, graduating from Coleridge High School with the class of 1941.

Following his education, Vernon was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country during WWII with the Infantry Division from 1943 to 1946.&nbsp; He engaged in the Battle of the Bulge Conflict, earning two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.&nbsp; Vernon was honorably discharged in 1946.&nbsp; He was also honored in 2019 with a Quilt of Valor.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Beuck in 1947 and was blessed with his only son, Alan. Evelyn passed away in 1988.

While living at Johnson Lake near Lexington, Nebraska, Vernon owned and operated Meyerott Refrigeration. He served as a District Commander of the VFW, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and an active member of Hope Lutheran Church at Smithfield, Nebraska.

He was united in marriage to LaVonne (Orr) in 2006 and they made their home in Seward, Nebraska. After a stroke with declining health, he’s resided at Good Samaritan Society in Millard since 2017, until his death.

Vernon his survived by his wife, LaVonne of Seward, Nebraska; his son, Alan (Karen) Meyerott of Gretna, Nebrasak;&nbsp; and four adult step-children, Ron Orr, Retha (Orr) Saathoff, Lori (Orr) Blum and Mary (Orr) Hetrick.

He was preceded in death by his previous wives, Evelyn (Beuck), Doreen (Wilke) and Ruby (Linder), five brothers and one sister; a step-daughter and his only grandchild, Scott Meyerott.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield, Nebraska with Pastor Daniel Landin, officiating. The service will be livestreamed via the Hope Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield.

Vernon F. Meyerott  (1923-2020)

Vicki Ann Sentelle, age 53, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at CHI Good Health Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Vicki was born December 27, 1966 in Takoma Park, Maryland to Judith and William Sentelle. In 1976 the family moved to Elwood, Nebraska where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1984. After graduation she attended McCook Community College where she earned an Associates Degree in Journalism. The family moved to Lexington, Nebraska in 1985.

She was employed by Reach Electronics, Walmart, Plum Creek Medical and then returned to Walmart where she worked for the last twenty years.

Vicki loved sports, especially the Washington Redskins, playing pool, softball, gaming, photography and most of all being with family. She was especially proud of her daughter, Morgan and everything she has achieved in Music.

Vicki donated her organs and tissue to Live On Nebraska to help others that are in need.

Survivors include her mother, Judy Sentelle of Lexington; daughter, Morgan Sentelle and wife Kelsey Krieger of Holdrege, Nebraska; two brothers: Jerry (Lee) Sentelle of Kearney, Nebraska and Greg (Heather) Sentelle of Lexington, Nebraska; one sister, Debbie Sentelle of Lexington, Nebraska; and grandmother Ruth Sentelle. Vicki Ann Sentelle  (1966-2020)

Esther Ann Einspahr was born June 13, 1929, at Wauneta, Nebraska, to Otis J. and Clara M. (Ditton) Knotwell.&nbsp; As a youngster, Esther was baptized on April 5, 1942, at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta. She grew up and attended school in Wauneta, graduating from Wauneta High School in 1946. On August 20, 1950, Esther married Rodney D. Einspahr, at St Paul Lutheran Church of rural Wauneta, Nebraska. She was also confirmed at St Paul’s on January 30, 1951.&nbsp;&nbsp;The couple settled and farmed on the south divide until 1977, when they moved into Wauneta to make their home. Esther moved into the Imperial Heights in the winter of 2010 and later to the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in 2016. Esther not only was a homemaker and assisted on the farm, but was employed at Enders State Bank in Enders, Nebraska and Imperial, Nebraska for 30 years. She was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church, participating in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the St Paul Choir, the Ladies Aid Group, and taught Sunday school and sponsored the St. Paul’s Walther League with Rodney. Esther was also a member of the Nebraska Chapter of the National Financial Women’s Organization. She enjoyed reading, visiting with neighbors and friends, playing golf, crocheting, and quilting. Esther was involved in sewing and instructing the craft with the local 4-H group. She especially loved to watch her grandchildren participate in sporting, musicals, or drama events. Esther passed away Saturday evening, October 3, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; Esther was 91 years of age. Gordon William McLeod of Thedford, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at his home on the ranch.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas County Fairgrounds Building in Thedford, NE.&nbsp; An online guest book may be signed at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.govierbrothers.com/">www.govierbrothers.com</a>&nbsp;for words of encouragement or remembrance.

Gordon William McLeod was born June 16,1948 to Phil and Barbara (McLean) McLeod.&nbsp; Gordon attended two elementary schools, Cherry County #31 at Hanna’s and #105 at Sears. He attended Valentine High School in Valentine, Nebraska for the first two years, then graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE in 1966.&nbsp; In the fall of 1966, he enrolled in Northeast Community College at Norfolk, NE on a basketball scholarship.&nbsp; In June of 1968 he enlisted in the Army.&nbsp; He served as a radio operator and was stationed in Germany.&nbsp; In November of 1969 he received an honorable discharge after his father suffered a heart attack.&nbsp; Gordon returned home to help manage the family ranch.

In May of 1976 Gordon entered the Hazelton Alcoholism Treatment Program in Center City, Minnesota.&nbsp; This experience changed his life and set him on a path of recovery “one day at a time”.&nbsp; On June 26,1982 Gordon married Diane Rogers, and to this union five children were born. 

Gordon is survived by his wife, Diane, and children:&nbsp; Michelle (Brandon) Olstad, Nicole (Bret) Huber, Michael (Brittany) McLeod, Matthew, and Luke McLeod; his grandchildren:&nbsp; Gabrielle, Titus, and Amaris Olstad; Jack. Aspen, Sage, Cannon, and Archer Huber; Carter Anderson, Malechi, Isabelle, and Liam McLeod.

William “Bill” James Gumb, age 90 of Sargent, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at his home in Sargent.

Bill was born September 11, 1930 in Holt County, Nebraska to Clarence William and Daisy Mildred (Palmer) Gumb.

He married Darlene Hughes, the love of his life, on May 6, 1949 in Burwell, Nebraska. To this union four children were born: Steve, Dianne, Mona, and Billy.&nbsp; Bill and Darlene worked at many ranches in the Sandhills.&nbsp;

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his son Steve; parents Clarence and Daisy Gumb; in-laws Emmett and Mona Hughes; grandsons, Ryan Peterson and Jarrod Holmes; one brother and four sisters.

Bill is survived by daughters Dianne Patterson of Missouri, Mona (Neil) Davidson of Milburn, Nebraska, and his son Billy (Debbie) Gumb of Sargent; grandchildren Stephanie Carpenter, Tyler (Christie) Gumb, Michelle (Jeff) Barnhill, Dusty (Angie) Gumb, Friday (Paul Bracher, David Holmes, Jacy (Joe) Mahar, Justin (Amy) Patterson, Jake (Natalie) Patterson, Amber (Jason) Lamb, Steven Gumb, Heath (Kristi) Gumb, Trace Gumb, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.

William "Bill" James Gumb  (1930-2020)

Rodney D. Kostman of Cozad, Nebraska passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 72. Rod was born August 28, 1948 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Emil and Mae (Houchin) Kostman. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1966 and started work&nbsp;that very day&nbsp;at Monroe Auto&nbsp;and was employed there&nbsp;until the plant closed. When he was younger, Rod would go to work with his father on Joe Allen's farm to harvest, swath and put up hay. He also helped take Allen's Belgian horses to the State Fair.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rod lived in Eustis, Nebraska for a short time before moving to Cozad. 

On September 3, 1982 he married Jacqueline Stott. 

Rod enjoyed hunting, walking canals, camping and anything to do with guns and hunting. He loved spending time camping and vacationing with his family. Rod was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and had a special place in his heart for his dogs.&nbsp;

Rod was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bernita Royer, Virginia Buss; niece, Judy Rhodearmer; nephew, Jon Buss; and granddaughter, Ava. 

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Kostman of Cozad; children, Brian (Melanie)&nbsp;Tate&nbsp;of Kennard, NE, Kellie (Mark)&nbsp;Stutterheim&nbsp;of Eustis, LaNona (Mark) Oberg of Gothenburg, NE, Jeremy (Jennifer) Rinehart of Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren, Brittany Ostergard, Connor Tate, Huntyr Stutterheim, Logan Tate, Amaya Snell, Morton Oberg, Marin Oberg, Kinley Oberg, Jackson Rinehart and Jonah Rinehart; and 1 great grandchild, Blakelyee Peterson.

Memorials are suggested to the family with designation to Cozad Gun Club, Central Plains Hospice or Wild Turkey Federation. 

Visitation with family present will be Friday, October 16, 2020 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad, Nebraska with Rosary at 7 pm.&nbsp; &nbsp;Services will be Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Mike Pampara as celebrant.
