Marjory “Marge” Eloise Rippen, age 94, of North Platte, NE passed away on November 13, 2020. She was born on May 6, 1926 to Oscar W. and Helen (Kaufman) Koertner in Bladen, Nebraska where she attended elementary and graduated from Bladen High School with a teaching certificate.&nbsp; She taught county school for 3 years.

She married Ervin Rippen on June 24, 1945 and lived on the farm in Campbell to this union 3 children were born, Richard Lee, Terry Lynn and Debra Jean. They moved to Brady, NE in 1949 and moved to North Platte, NE in 1958. She worked with Ervin at Ingalls Grain Elevator. After Ervin died, Terry joined Marge in the elevator and they worked together until 1979.

Marge and Terry worked with FGL commodities for a couple of years. Marge then worked at Ramada Inn as a Hostess. She retired in 1991 and traveled with Debbie and granddaughter, Stephanie, for 6 years with softball.&nbsp; Marge was Grandma to the whole team.

She was active in the Eagles Club. She held several offices in the club and was mother of the year. She held Bingo at Linden Court, Linden Manor and the Eagles Club for 20 plus years.

Marge was a member of the First United Methodist Church and called on the home bound and nursing homes as a member of the church group. She was on several bowling leagues. She was also active in the VFW Post Auxiliary 1504.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin in 1977; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Alice Koertner; and brothers-in- law, Alvin Rippen and Lloyd (Elsie) Rippen.

She is survived by her sons, Richard “Dick” (Sue) Rippen of Mound City, MO, Terry (Pam Koss) Rippen of North Platte, NE; daughter, Debbie (Bob) Lewis of North Platte, NE; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Leona Rippen of MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gravesides Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the North Platte City Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Douglas Delp officiating. Book signing with be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, November 16 and 17, 2020 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. &nbsp;CDC Covid19 guidelines will be respected and therefore social distancing and wearing a mask is suggested.

Kevin Joe Bennett (1962-2020)

Lori Marie (Trump) Blakeman, age 55, of Merna, Nebraska went to meet her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 surrounded by her husband Paul and dad Everett.

Lori was born February 1, 1965 at Burwell Community Hospital to Everett and Carol Trump, while living in Ord, Nebraska she belonged to Bethany Lutheran Church and was active in the Church.

Lori went to school in Ord and graduated with the Class of 1983. After graduation she went to Central Community College, after graduation she worked for Mid-Nebraska for several years in Ord, and then Tumbleweed Café in Broken Bow, Nebraska as a cook for a while.

Lori met Paul at a single’s dance in Broken Bow, after dating, on December 11, 1999 she married Paul Blakeman. The couple lived in Merna, NE for a while and then moved to a farm west of Merna. Lori loved to travel, eat out, read a good book, go on cruises (one of her favorite places was the Cayman Islands), send out cards for Birthday, Get Well, Anniversary, and other occasions, she loved to cook, and was very good at it, and shop (Lori had her Holiday shopping all done for this year). Lori was an avid sports fan; her favorite team was New England Patriots with Tom Brady. Lori smiled all the time and tried to keep a positive attitude. Lori was a member of the United Methodist Church in Merna where she was very active and was president of UMW.

Lori is survived by her husband Paul of Merna; her dad Everett Trump of Merna; two brothers Steve (Benita) Trump of Custer, SD, and their children Tyler, Cody and Kally, and Brian (Holly) Trump of Ord and their children Charles, Robert, Anna, and David; mother-in-law Shirley Blakeman; brothers and sisters-in-law John (Deb) Blakeman, Mary (Rodney) Ross, Nancy (Randy) Henry; and other relatives and a host of friends.

Lori was preceded in death by her mother Carol Trump, aunts Mary Burson and Lila Gross, and a uncle Evert Burson.

Graveside service will be Monday, November 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Merna Cemetery west of Merna, NE with Pastor Bill Williams officiating. Lori Marie Trump Blakeman  (1965-2020)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Albert Ramos Sr, age 75, of Julesburg, Colorado passed away on November 5, 2020 in Ogallala, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was born on October 7, 1945 to Salvador Joe Arroyo and Virginia Sandoval. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Albert served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles."&nbsp; While in the service, Albert married Julia Reyna.&nbsp; Their union was blessed with two children, Carmen and Albert Jr.&nbsp; Later on, he would be blessed with another child, Angela, with Guadalupe Iturrios. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Albert started working on the Union Pacific Railroad in 1972.&nbsp; He was then remarried in 1974 to Blanca E. Guzman.&nbsp; Their union was blessed with Natalie, Tonya, and Yvette, and they later adopted Jazmin.&nbsp; Albert took great pride in helping many friends and family members secure positions on the railroad.&nbsp; His career spanned over 33 years, and in that time, he was relocated frequently for promotions, from Julesburg, Colorado to San Antonio, Texas.&nbsp; During his time on the railroad, he became the first Hispanic officer (General Road Master) and consistently advocated for minorities throughout his tenure.&nbsp; Albert retired in 2006 and then returned to his hometown of Julesburg, Colorado. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Albert's favorite hobby was fishing, which he enjoyed doing with his family.&nbsp; He also enjoyed music and dancing.&nbsp; He was a hard worker and often helped his family and friends in any way he could.&nbsp; Albert had a great zest for life, and a passion for camaraderie that made him such a joy to be around.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Joe &amp; Virginia; and his siblings Gloria, Irene, Victor, Mike and Angie.&nbsp; His wife Blaca passed away in December 2014. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include his children Carmen Sawasaki (Steve) of Morgan Hill, California, Albert Ramos Jr (Stephanie) of San Jose, California, Angela Smith (Alberto) of Ogallala, Nebraska, Natalie Crowley (Chris) of Sterling, Colorado, Tonya Ramos of Julesburg, Colorado, Yvette Velasquez (Sergio) of Aurora, Colorado, and Jazmin Ramos of Sterling, Colorado.&nbsp; Survivors also include his grandchildren:&nbsp; Melissa Godinez, Sara Sawasaki, Nicole Sawasaki, Sebastian (Molly) Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Savion Smith, Ciara Crowley, and Aaron Crowley; his great-grandchildren: Andrew Montablo, Rory Smith, and Olivia &amp; Sophia Collins; and siblings Daniel, Madeline, Helen, Joe, Sally, Ilene, Meliton, and Rita; as weel as many nieces and nephews. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Albert's memory.&nbsp; Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the United Methodist Church, 520 Maple Street in Julesburg, Colorado from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. MST.&nbsp; Interment will be at the Julesburg Hillside Cemetery from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. MST.&nbsp; Face masks are required for all indoor and outdoor services.&nbsp; Pastor Kerry Johnson will be officiating. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Julesburg, Colorado is in charge of arrangements.

Albert Ramos, Sr  (1945-2020)

Roy Loraine Hutchinson, age 98, of Gothenburg, Nebraska and formerly of Arthur, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday,  November 11, 2020 in Gothenburg.&nbsp; He was born on July 26, 1922 to Richard and Margaret (Jones) Hutchinson in Arthur County, Nebraska.&nbsp; He attended school in Arthur County and McPherson County in Nebraska.

Roy married Evelyn Lemmert in 1943 at Ogallala, Nebraska.&nbsp; He worked for area farmers and ranchers until 1944 when he was drafted into the Army.&nbsp; He served in the Philippines and then with occupational forces in Japan.&nbsp; He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Arthur County where he farmed for Jay Cook and Raymond Goedert.&nbsp; Later he was employed by Meyers Land and Cattle Company and the Jack Kramer Ranch.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 1958, Roy and Evelyn moved to Hyannis, Nebraska and purchased the Hyannis Grocery Store.&nbsp; In 1968, Roy went to work for the Arthur County Road Maintenance.&nbsp; He retired in 1989 and resided in Arthur until he married Alice M. Sheffield Soller in 1994 and moved to North Platte, Nebraska.

Roy was a member of the Arthur Baptist Church, member of the E.J. Yates Legion Post #207 in Arthur, and a life member of the VFW.&nbsp; He volunteered at the Lincoln County Historical Museum and enjoyed square dancing (Cow Town Swingers) and dancing at senior activities.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn, in 1993; three brothers: John, Lee and Marcus; four sisters: Irene Clapp, Margaret Gastineau, Mable Lookart, and Mona Rowley.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday November 14th at 10:00 a.m. MST&nbsp; in the Ogallala Cemetery in Ogallala, Nebraska with the Rev Chuck Rager of the United Methodist of Ogallala officiating. 

Visitation will be Friday, November 13th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm MST at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala, Nebraska.

 </figure>Roy Loraine Hutchinson, age 98, of Gothenburg, Nebraska and formerly of Arthur, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 in Gothenburg.&nbsp; He was born on July 26, 1922 to Richard and Margaret (Jones) Hutchinson in Arthur County, Nebraska.&nbsp; He attended school in Arthur County and McPherson County in Nebraska.Roy married Evelyn Lemmert in 1943 at Ogallala, Nebraska.&nbsp; He worked for area farmers and ranchers until 1944 when he was drafted into the Army.&nbsp; He served in the Philippines and then with occupational forces in Japan.&nbsp; He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Arthur County where he farmed for Jay Cook and Raymond Goedert.&nbsp; Later he was employed by Meyers Land and Cattle Company and the Jack Kramer Ranch.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1958, Roy and Evelyn moved to Hyannis, Nebraska and purchased the Hyannis Grocery Store.&nbsp; In 1968, Roy went to work for the Arthur County Road Maintenance.&nbsp; He retired in 1989 and resided in Arthur until he married Alice M. Sheffield Soller in 1994 and moved to North Platte, Nebraska.Roy was a member of the Arthur Baptist Church, member of the E.J. Yates Legion Post #207 in Arthur, and a life member of the VFW.&nbsp; He volunteered at the Lincoln County Historical Museum and enjoyed square dancing (Cow Town Swingers) and dancing at senior activities.Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn, in 1993; three brothers: John, Lee and Marcus; four sisters: Irene Clapp, Margaret Gastineau, Mable Lookart, and Mona Rowley.Roy is survived by his wife, Alice of Gothenburg, Nebraska; a daughter, Emily I. Roy L. Hutchinson  (1922-2020)

Marilyn Kohl, age 77, of North Platte, Nebraska was born Marilyn Anne Gooden in Chicago, Illinois on January 9th 1943 to her parents William Gooden and Lillian Thompson. The good lord called her home on November 10, 2020.

Marilyn was a 1961 graduate of North Platte High School. She married Richard Christner and had 3 daughters Trudy, Kim, and Lynn. She separated from that marriage and later remarried Wilbur Jay Kohl and they welcomed a son Curt Kohl.&nbsp;

Marilyn spent many years as a homemaker but later in her life started working. She has worked as a cashier and waitress in many truck stops and gas stations. She has moved around and lived in a few different states but has always called North Platte her home.&nbsp;

Marilyn had many hobbies, some of her favorites being league bowling, shuffle board and cards. She could also be found watching old western movies especially ones with John Wayne, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends including a dear friend Anita McMurry.

She will be missed by many and has left an everlasting impression on everyone.&nbsp;

Marilyn is survived by her children, Trudy Christner of North Platte, Nebraska, Kimberly (Troy) Maurer of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Lynn (Randy) Whitney of Little Elm, Texas, and Curt Kohl of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren, Teresa (Josh) Scott of North Platte, Nebraska, Tabatha (Chad) Larson of North Platte, Nebraska, Travis (Sheryl) Hopkins-Shiery of North Platte, Nebraska, Jeremy, Chase, Tiffani, and Zachary Maurer, Victoria and Annebel Whitney, Della Jenkins, Jenasis Ream-Kohl, and Jaxson Ream-Kohl; great-grandchildren, Jada Mae, Connor, and Noah, Crede, Slade, Jennifer, Quentone, Joseph, Kaylee, Damien, Robert, and Lance; and a great-great grandson, Liam.

Marilyn Anne Kohl  (1943-2020)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Gloria D. Loyd Wilson, age 69 of North Platte, Nebraska went home to our Lord and Savior on November 8, 2020. Gloria was born May 3, 1951 in Yakima, Washington to Dale and Gloria (Mitchell) Garton. Throughout her childhood she lived in California, Kansas and Colorado. Spending most of her life in Colorado. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; In 1968, she married her first husband and to this union were born their son, Matthew, and their daughter, Angela. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she became a single mom with two young children. Determined to give her children the best life possible she worked tirelessly as a hair designer. Managing several salons and eventually becoming self-employed. She constantly sacrificed to provide her children with everything they needed in a loving and caring home.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was a wonderful listener and her kind heart and gift of conversation caused strangers in all walks of life to open up to her and become treasured and lifelong friends. She was an amazing cook, always looking for a new recipe to try out as well as tried and true family favorites. Somehow she always seemed to “make too much” so she could share with those she loved and those in need. Her generous heart was felt by many throughout her lifetime even if it meant she went without because “God will provide” and he always did. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; In 1991, she married Donny Wilson and together they enjoyed camping, fishing and attending mountain man rendezvous. Gloria enjoyed God’s creation and spending time outdoors, especially in the Rocky Mountains. She loved target practice and was an excellent shot. She loved music of all kinds, especially when she could crank up the bass. She loved all animals and spoiled all her pets. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In 2012, she retired and her and Donny moved to Stapleton, Nebraska to enjoy the benefits of small rural living that enabled her to be close to her daughter, “favorite son-in-law” and some of her grandchildren, while still being close to the rest of her family and friends in Colorado. She enjoyed living in the little village. She never ceased to tell her friends and family how much she loved them and how thankful she was for each of them. And she never wasted and opportunity to brag on her children and grandchildren. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Due to health concerns, she moved to North Platte, Nebraska in 2019. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, spoiling her dog, Stubbie, watching her favorite shows, playing games to keep her mind strong, searching scripture and finding joy in the simple things. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Her personal relationship with Jesus brought her so much peace and comfort over the last few years of her life. She used every opportunity to share her love for Jesus and all He had done for her to everyone she came in contact with. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Gloria will be missed immensely and is survived by her son, Matthew (Rachel) Loyd of Arvada, Colorado and her grandchildren, Colton, Cooper and Mackenzie; her daughter, Angela (Travis) Victory of North Platte, Nebraska and her grandchildren, Becca (Chase) Smith, Joel, Jordan, Abby, Charity and Rachel. Eda Ruth Dillon Ridgway, age 73, of Akron, Iowa passed away November 7, 2020 at her home, with her loving husband, Leo by her side.

Eda was born in North Platte, Nebraska to Charles and Mary (Gormly) Dillon on January 7, 1947.

She graduated from Maywood High School in Maywood, Nebraska in 1964 and attended McCook Community College in McCook, Nebraska for a while to further her education. She married the love of her life, Leo Ridgway on June 17, 2016.

Eda worked various jobs but the one she enjoyed the most was when she was an over-the-road trucker.&nbsp; She was able to visit all the continental states and even went into Canada.&nbsp;&nbsp; She enjoyed working in her “big” garden when her health allowed, and spending time with her special granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Everett Winters; her son’s father, Kenneth Worth; husband, Virgil Schmidt; and her grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, Leo; son, Thom (Angie) Worth of Wellfleet, NE; two special granddaughters, Charlee Grace and Kady Rose; step-daughter, Christina (Kendall0) Verhage of Gretna, NE; 13 step-grandchildren; and 6 step-great-grandchildren.

Patty Quemè, age 50, of North Platte, NE passed away on November 8, 2020 at Great Plains Health.

She was born on March 10, 1970 at Quetzaltenango, Guatemala to Jose Luis Piedrasanta and Clara Reyes. Patty grew up in Quetzaltenango and in 1991 she graduated as a secretary and office clerk. She studied at San Carlos University of Guatemala where she graduated as a social worker in 1996. Patty served actively at Iglesia Palabra en Accion in Quetzaltenango.

Patty was united in marriage to German Quemè, February of 2013 at the Lincoln County Court House, where the couple has been living in North Platte, NE until the present day. They had the privilege of being Pastors at Dios es Amor Church. She served some time teaching bible study for children. Patty also served the North Platte community by giving out boxed food weekly. She worked for Menards and Walmart for a few years.

She is survived by her husband, German Quemè; mother, Clara Reyes; sister, Olga Marina Reyes; brother, Jose Luis Piedrasanta; and nieces and nephews, Christian, Pavel, Claudia and Alejandra; brother in law, Nery; and sister in law, Carmen, Veronica, Lety and Olga; and nieces and nephews of her husband.

Patty was preceded in death by her father, Jose Luis Piedrasanta; and sisters in law, Guadalupe and Rosa.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Lead Pastor Santos Ordoñes officiating. She will be taken home to Guatemala for burial.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on November 12, 2020 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, 1616 West B St., North Platte, NE 69101.

Patty Quemè (1970-2020)

Lifelong Wallace, Kansas, resident Shirley Rose Bussen, 84, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Shirley was born on April 24, 1936, to Celestine Leiker and Virginia Rumbach in a sod house east of Wallace, KS. She was the fourth of five children; Gloria, Roger, Elizabeth (Betty), and Celestine (Junior). She attended Wallace Grade School and graduated from Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs.&nbsp;

On August 31, 1954, she married Raymond Theodore Bussen and moved to the farm east of Wallace until her death.&nbsp; Together, they raised six children. Thomas (Tom), their natural born, and five adopted, Brian, Rhonda, Julie, Joseph (Joe), and Celeste. &nbsp;

Shirley was very strong in her faith and was an active member of St Peter’s Catholic Church and Alter Society in Wallace and later of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Alter Society of Sharon Springs.&nbsp; She was especially devoted to Jesus’ Blessed Mother Mary.&nbsp; Many a Rosary was prayed at the Bussen farm for special intentions, family, and friends.&nbsp; Rosaries were especially prayed during bad weather and on family vacations during long car rides.&nbsp;

Shirley’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest blessings.&nbsp; She treasured spending time with each and every one of them making all feel as if they were her favorite.&nbsp; Shirley welcomed everyone to the Bussen farm and at mealtimes the table was set with homecooked food and was surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; Shirley enjoyed all her nieces and nephews that spent extra time at the farm during summers, harvest, and holidays and welcomed her children’s friends as if they were here own family.&nbsp; Many lived there for extended periods of time.&nbsp; Shirley enjoyed having family reunions and neighborhood gatherings at the farm, creating great feasts of food and making fond, happy memories for many.&nbsp; Everyone left with a full stomach and a warm heart.&nbsp;

Immediate family preceding her in death is her oldest son Tom, sister Gloria Jones, and brother Roger Leiker. &nbsp;

Shirley is survived by her husband Raymond of the farm at Wallace, sister Elizabeth Colson (Leo) of North Platte, NE, brother Junior Leiker (Dolly) of Atwood, KS,&nbsp; Tom’s wife Deanna Bussen of Wallace, son Brian Bussen of Denver, CO, daughter Rhonda and husband Greg Winkler of Haven, KS, daughter Julie Bussen of Baltimore MD, son Joe and wife Suzanne Bussen of Great Bend, KS, and daughter Celeste and husband Mike Rains of Oakley, KS.&nbsp; She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Shirley leaves a legacy as a faith filled woman of God, devoted wife, loving mother, grandma and great grandma. &nbsp; Her arms, kitchen, and home were always open.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10:30 AM MT at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs with Father David Michael officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Fort Wallace Cemetery, Wallace, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2020, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT with a combined Vigil and Parish Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM all at the Church in Sharon Springs.

Barbara&nbsp;Johansen, age 71, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away in her sleep at Dignity First Health at Home in El Paso, Texas, where she was currently residing, on September 8, 2020.

Barbara was born January 3, 1949, in North Platte, Nebraska, the youngest of 14 children born to Arthur and Bernice Staples. Barb grew up in North Platte and after high school she went on to become an RN.&nbsp; Her nursing career lasted 37 years, mainly working night shifts in the ER.

On January 6, 1973, Barb married Glenn Johansen and a blended family was created. They made a home together on Vine Street in North Platte, and her door was always open to anyone needing her medical advice, a home cooked meal, or just to visit; she always enjoyed the company.

Barb was a Godly woman who loved the Lord and her family. She strived to set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will continue to lead them all for the rest of their lives. Barb’s love for her family extended to planning monthly lunches with her siblings and family reunions. She will forever be remembered for her loving and generous heart.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Willis and Betty Johansen; brothers, Keith and Wallace ‘Wally’ Staples; sisters, Elsie Jacoby, Doris Motsinger, Geraldine Gilbert and Norma Gale.

John Paul Morris  (1941-2020)

Larry D. Messersmith, of Maywood, Nebraska passed away November 8, 2020 in North Platte, Nebraska. Larry was born April 29, 1942 in Hayes County, Nebraska to Lewis Ivan and Annabel (Kugler) Messersmith.&nbsp; He was living in Maywood, NE at time of death.

He graduated high school at Hayes Center High School.&nbsp; He served in the US Army from June 1961 to June 1964 in the 1st Infantry Division and was a Vietnam Veteran.&nbsp; Larry married Janice Ann Berry at Oberlin, KS on August 3, 1963.&nbsp; To this union was born four children: Danny Ray, Brad Lee , Van Duane , and one daughter Vicky Dee.

He was baptized into Maywood Christian Church on August 20, 2003.&nbsp; Larry was a certified Babe Ruth Baseball Manager and a decorated Military Veteran.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion Post 272 at Maywood, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Dorance and unborn infant child in 1965 and a son Danny Messersmith.

Survivors include his wife Janice;&nbsp; 2 sons;&nbsp; Brad and Van,&nbsp; daughter Vicky and Gaylen Huntley; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and&nbsp; extended family&nbsp; numerous nieces and nephews,&nbsp; friends;&nbsp; Mary Jones of Idaho;&nbsp; Eric and Tami Ludeman of Colorado;&nbsp; John and Rachel Miller of Culbertson, NE.&nbsp; &nbsp;He will be missed by numerous family and friends as he's&nbsp; laid to rest in Maywood Nebraska Cemetery with Military Honors.

Visitation will be held, Thursday, November 12, 2020; 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Maywood Christian Church.

Paul E. Cunningham of Cozad, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Emerald Care &amp; Rehab at the age of 85. Paul was born June 21, 1935 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Loren and Edith Cunningham. At the age of 5, his family moved and settled on a farm east of Cozad. He attended school in Cozad, where he met Patricia Geiken. 

After graduating, Paul and Patricia were married on June 13, 1954 at EUB/Parkview Methodist Church. Their union was blessed with three children, Kathy, David and Doug. After working a year on the farm, Paul enlisted in the US Navy. It was during his time in the service that he would find his interest in electronics and electrical maintenance. Following his discharge from the Navy, Paul returned to Cozad and worked at Darr Packing and Monroe Auto Equipment in the electrical maintenance departments. During this time, he obtained his state electrical license. In 1975, Paul started his own electrical business, Rural Electric. He would continue in this business until his retirement in 2010. 

After the passing of his wife, Paul continued living east of Cozad until 2019 when he moved to Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living and then to Emerald Care &amp; Rehab in 2020. Paul was a life long member of Parkview Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School and held various positions on several committees. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; parents, Loren and Edith Cunningham; his in-laws, Wayne and Rena Geiken; and his brother-in-law Roger Geiken and his wife Carrie. 

Survivors include his children, Kathy (Randy) Jacob of Cozad, NE, David (Lori) Cunningham of Rock Springs, WY and Doug (Ellen) Cunningham of Lexington, NE; sister in law, Beverly Jackson and her husband Elmer of Albuquerque, NM; 5 grandchildren, Jared (Malinda) Jacob, Heath (Keller Niemann) Jacob, Elizabeth (Jay) Mins, Stephanie (Marty) Coble and Matthew (Katlin) Cunningham; 7 great grandchildren, Raegan Jacob, Ethan and Liam Mins, Lilly and Harper Coble, and Ava and Jaxon Cunningham.

Memorials are suggested to the family in his name for later designation. Cremation was chosen. There will be no book signing. A private graveside memorial service will be held November 19, 2020 at Grand View Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia May (Gillen) Hein gained her angel wings on November 9, 2020.&nbsp; She was born on May 20, 1930 in McCook, Nebraska to Frank and Marie (Lebsack) Gillen.&nbsp; She was the youngest of four children having two older brothers and one older sister.&nbsp;

She was raised in McCook, NE where she attended McCook schools and met her husband of 71 years, Don Hein.&nbsp; She and Don were united in marriage on August 12, 1949 and to this union four daughters joined them.&nbsp; Early in their marriage, she worked along side her aunt at the Gazette and then worked for 1st&nbsp;National Bank.&nbsp; Virginia and Don are members of the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; She loved the holidays and celebrating them with much detail.&nbsp; She would cook and throw a party for her family and friends.&nbsp; She loved her outdoor flowers, playing cards, her dogs, fishing, hunting, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Doris Leblanc; brothers, Clarence Gillen and Francis Gillen.

Virginia is survived by her beloved husband, Don; four daughters: Patricia (Michael) Cornish, Rebecca (Gale) Loop, Barbara (Jay) Emory, and Lesa (William) Clifford; sister-in-law, Betty Gillen; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia May Hein  (1930-2020)

Roberta Spilinek of McCook, NE died peacefully on November 9, 2020 in Lincoln, NE. She was 84 years old. She was born December 13, 1935 to Robert and Frances (Polanski) Schmidt in Spalding, NE. She lived with her four siblings on a farm until she was the age of six when the family moved to St. Paul, NE.&nbsp; She attended and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1953.

Roberta met Gerald Spilinek at a county fair in 1953. They dated until he proposed to her on Christmas Eve, 1954. She and Gerald were married June 21, 1955 in St. Paul, NE. Together, they had five children: four sons and one daughter.

Roberta, Gerald and their family lived on a farm outside Elba, NE from the time they were married, then moved to Lincoln, NE before 1963 when they moved to McCook, NE. Roberta worked in the engineering lab at TRW production for seven years before her and Gerald bought an A&amp;W drive-in with John and Florence Unger. They co-owned the drive-in for 12 years. Roberta then took on the position of Dietary Manager at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She loved her job and the residents, working there for 17 years before retiring in 1999. After retiring, her and Gerald spent a lot of their time traveling, taking cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean as well as spending time with their grandchildren.

Roberta was one of the sweetest people you would ever meet. She made everyone feel so welcome in her home and was always worried about others’ needs over her own. Anyone that knew Roberta knew she was an amazing cook. She loved to cook and bake and was notorious for asking if everyone had enough to eat. Her infamous potato dumplings were always a cherished family tradition.

Roberta was strong in her Catholic faith and was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. She loved to read, crochet and sew in her spare time. She made beautiful blankets and towels for all her family and friends. Roberta also enjoyed playing BINGO every Monday night at the Knight’s of Columbus Hall, especially when she won.

Roberta always said her family was what gave her life meaning. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She was incredibly involved in their lives and never let a birthday or special event pass without a hand-written card. She was so loved and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Frances Schmidt, siblings, Mike Schmidt, Leonard Schmidt, Angela Arehart, Rosella Arehart, Mary Josephine Schmidt; husband, Gerald Spilinek; daughter, Karen Spilinek; and son, Wayne Spilinek.

Roberta is survived by &nbsp;3 sons: Gerald Jr. “Jerry” and Cindy Spilinek (Wichita, KS), Anton “Tony” and Bev Spilinek (McCook, NE), Tom Spilinek (Wichita, KS); daughter-in-law Mia Spilinek (Douglas, WY): ten grandchildren: Mary and Corey Kruse (Lincoln, NE), Kayla and Derek Brooks (Omaha, NE), Jonathon Spilinek (Lincoln NE), Sterling Spilinek (Glennallen, AK), Stone Spilinek (Douglas, WY), Saylor Spilinek (Laramie, WY), Kaitlyn and Corey Ash (Ravenna, NE), Abagayle Spilinek (Raleigh, NC), Melisa Spilinek (Lincoln, NE) and Gerald III “Morgan” Spilinek (Wichita, KS) and six great-grandchildren: Carter, Cole and Claire Kruse, Darin Brooks, and Rylee and Emersyn Ash.

Visitation will be at Herman-Jones Funeral Home in McCook, Nebraska on Sunday, November 15 from 2-5 pm. Roberta’s family will be having a private service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hillcrest Nursing Home in Roberta’s name.

James Michael Edward Fisher, age 57, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on November 5, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.&nbsp; He was born to Richard and Betty (Price) Fisher on January 24, 1963 in McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp; James grew up and attended school in McCook where he also graduated from high school.

James married Juanita Jane Morrow on September 5, 1987 at the park in Curtis, Nebraska.&nbsp; The two of them made homes in McCook &amp; Curtis in Nebraska, and Salina, Kansas where James worked for several companies before health issues forced him to retire.&nbsp; Juanita preceded James in death in 2008.

James met Michelle Irwin in 2015 and the two made a life together in North Platte, NE.&nbsp; James was happiest when fishing, working on cars, or when surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; He was extremely loyal to those he loved and was always quick with a smile and some sort of a smart remark.&nbsp; You always knew James cared about you if he was picking on you.&nbsp; He was extremely proud of his sons Andrew and Jeremy and will be remembered fondly by the family he was connected to by blood as well as the family that he chose over the years.

James was preceded in death by his wife Juanita; mother, Betty Jensen; father, Richard Fisher; maternal grandparents, John and Thelma Price; brother, Galen C. Fisher; and brother, Thomas Jensen Jr.

On July 23, 1967, Glen married Shirley Catherine Kauffman at the Benkleman Trinity Baptist Church in Benkleman, Nebraska.&nbsp; They made their home on the family farm and raised two children.&nbsp; In 1987 the Lemon family was honored as a "Family That Farmed For 100 Years" by Aksarben. Along with farming, Glen loved gardening and planting trees and enjoyed bowling on a team. He was a member of Max Methodist Church and a past member of Ash Grove Cemetery Board. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Jessie; brother, Earl Lemon;&nbsp; sisters, Dorothy Humphrey, Opal Humphrey and Hope Morris; and daughter-in-law, Verna Lemon. Jim Rubenthaler, 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died November 10, 2020 at his home in Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Jimmy (Jim) Lee Rubenthaler of Gothenburg passed away peacefully at his home on November 10, 2020, surrounded by his daughters.

Jim was born on May 5, 1932, to Ted and Signe (Helberg) Rubenthaler. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1950.&nbsp; On June 20th, 1954, Jim married his beautiful wife of 62 years, Marilyn.&nbsp; They were married at Svea Dal Covenant Church north of Brady.&nbsp; During their marriage, they raised four children on the family farm, which has been in the family for over 100 years. Over the years, Jim enjoyed attending as many of the activities of his children and grandchildren that he could.&nbsp; Jim was a devoted steward of the land.&nbsp; As a lifelong farmer, he cared for the land to ensure that it would be fertile and healthy for future generations.&nbsp; Jim’s true love and calling was cattle ranching and cattle feeding. He always said that he farmed so that he could feed his cattle! Jim loved going to sale barns to buy cattle to fill his feedlot, he was always buyer number 11. He made many good friends over the years while he was buying cattle! Jim took pride in buying “junk cattle” and turning them into beautiful fats.

Jim was an active member of Svea Covenant Church until his death. He served as a deacon, a board member, and chairman of the church. He enjoyed giving of his time as a school board member and 4-H Leader in the Wild Horse Valley Community.&nbsp; Jim also spent over 20 years on the Coop Board of Directors, many of those years as the Director and during that time he and Marilyn enjoyed many trips with the board. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Twin Platte Natural Resource District for over 20 years, serving as Chairman during many of those years.

Jim was a long time member of the Lincoln County Fair Board and continued to support the 4-Hers up until his death.&nbsp; He also sold Dekalb Seed Corn for many years, which earned him and Marilyn trips to Hawaii and Mexico. In his later years, he enjoyed being part of the Gideons and handing out Bibles at the schools in the area.&nbsp; Jim enjoyed his Donut Shop friends so much and hardly ever missed a morning with them. For the last nine years, he was a devoted member of the Runza Ice Cream Club with his granddaughter Lizzie, they met every time there was an early-out from school!

Jim was an avid baseball fan, playing it in his younger years, and as he aged, he attended games and watched endless hours of college and Major League match-ups. Jim loved to collect tractors, especially John Deere, his collection was definitely museum-worthy. Bowling was another activity that he enjoyed. He had a blast bowling for the church league for many years and loved taking his grandchildren bowling and on many other adventures! Upon his retirement, he took up craft-welding. His creations have been given to many people in the area, as well as throughout the state. Jim had such a fantastic and contagious laugh, he will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his children, Marcia Rubenthaler of Brady, Robin Hines (Ron) of North Platte, Matt Rubenthaler of Lincoln, Gretchen David (Troy) of Brady, and his other “daughter”, Karen Krocker of Brady. His grandchildren, Allison (Brandon), Brooke, Derek, Trevor, and Lizzie, his great-grandchildren, Gemmia and Beckham and and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation for Jim will be held at the Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, Nebraska, on Sunday, November 15th, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with family present from 1:00 to 3:00. Due to COVID, a small funeral service for family and close friends will be held at the Cornerstone Bible Church, 1721 Lake Ave., Gothenburg, Nebraska on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.&nbsp;

Jimmy (Jim) Lee Rubenthaler (1932-2020)

Larry L Lehmkuhler, age 71, of the Stop Table area in Callaway, NE passed away Monday, November 9, 2020 at his home.

Larry was born April 2, 1949 in Gothenburg, NE to Lloyd L. and Bernelda L (Nelson) Lehmkuhler. Larry attended the Mackley Country School thru the 8th&nbsp;grade and graduated from Arnold High School in Arnold, NE. On June 15, 1968 Larry married Gloria J Whipple at the Morning Star United Methodist Church, and spent all of their 52 years of marriage living in the Arnold/Callaway community.

During High School Larry worked at Central Implement, after graduation he attended the John Deere certification course in Omaha, NE, on completion, he continued to work for Central Implement for another year. Larry worked as a farmhand for the first 13 years of his marriage. He then drove a truck for Halstead Trucking.&nbsp; He loved it and if he could have packed his family up to go with him, he would have never stopped. He then worked as a Road Maintainer operator for Custer County for 30 years. He retired in 2016 (for a few months), but that was short lived, as he returned to help out temporarily. He finished out his working years driving truck for Progressive Fertilizer for fun, which he realized quickly it cut into his fishing time. Aside from Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Uncle, the most rewarding “job” was all the years of being a Leader for the 4-H Shooting Club and took great pride in teaching the Hunter Safety Course for many years, teaching youngsters, which included&nbsp; most all his grandkids, nieces and nephews&nbsp; to safely enjoy hunting the great outdoors. Larry enjoyed spending time with his wife. They kept busy traveling to all parts of the state and farther to attend kids and grandkids events. He loved the great outdoors fishing and hunting with his family and friends. If you knew Larry, you knew he didn't know a stranger!! So, a quick trip to town was never quick!!

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Bernelda, and infant daughter Tami.

Larry is survived by his wife Gloria of Callaway, daughters Tina Lehmkuhler of Arnold, and Lee (Dan) Clark of Perry, KS, son John (Mandi) Lehmkuhler of Lexington, eight grandkids &amp; spouses, two great grandkids, brothers Mike (Ann) Lehmkuhler of Arnold, Dwaine (Carol) Lehmkuhler of Arnold, Jim (Karen) Lehmkuhler of Arnold, His in-laws Melvin (Karen) Whipple of Windsor, CO, Linda (Paul) Dietz of Lincoln, Reita (Charley) Lloyd of Callaway, and Patty (Ken) Phiffer of North Platte, NE and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Funeral service will be Friday, November 13, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Morning Star United Methodist Church with Pastor Shanon Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Arnold Cemetery in Arnold, NE. Memorials are suggested to The Larry Lehmkuhler Memorial Fund for Youth Shooting Sports.

William 'Bill' LeRoy Miller (1943-2020)

Gail Reed, age 85, of Cozad, Nebraska, died November 9, 2020 at Emerald Care Nursing Home in Cozad.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was born the daughter of William and Adelaide Jensen Christiansen on December 24, 1934. She was born in the same house she lived most of her life in.&nbsp;&nbsp;In her early stages of her life, she was riding horseback helping in the field.&nbsp; She was always ready to drive cattle, ride and herd the cattle in the cornfield or on the drive to the pasture.&nbsp; When the Cozad Horse Club was formed, she and her Dad rode in it along with a lot of farmers and any one that wanted to. She was the last living member of the club. They performed in a lot of different arenas.

She attended school at District 13 riding a horse when it was nice outside.&nbsp; One horse always loved to rub its halter off just as she knew school was out.&nbsp; We followed her home carrying the bridle. Noreen Benjamin was her best country friend.&nbsp; She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1952.

On January 20, 1952 she married the love of her life, John&nbsp; "Jack" Walter Reed in Lexington, Nebraska. They lived one year in Lexington, moving to a farm in Gothenburg, Nebraska the second year.&nbsp; When it came time to put up hay, Jack told her Dad we will have to hire someone to sweep.&nbsp; Dad smiled and pointed at Gail, and said she had been&nbsp;doing it for several years. Jack was shocked he didn't know that she could do a lot of things in the field.&nbsp; In February of 1954, they moved to the home place where they lived and raised their family and horses. Jack was involved with 4-H, so they all worked on showing calves and sheep judging.&nbsp; They raised 6 children, Marcia, John, Debra, Terri, Kim and Doug.&nbsp; The children were all involved early on: they milked cows, selling cream and milk to different people in town.&nbsp; Getting up at four o'clock in the morning to milk before going to work or getting the children off to school or sitting with a sow, pigging in the winter at three o'clock in the morning, or checking cows when calving.

Gail worked at the Dixie Inn,&nbsp; from there to Valley Vending then to Monroes for 25 years. She and Jack loved their time together working and growing a big garden to sell vegetables and baked goods in at the Farmers Market in Lexington, Gothenburg and Cozad. Gail loved her chickens, selling eggs to a lot of folks, at first, they started out with fryers later just eggs.&nbsp; She loved her chickens but her health shut that off.&nbsp; She had a lot of names, "Egg Lady", "Jelly Lady", "Pie Lady" and "Towel Lady".&nbsp; Her favorite past time was crocheting, or making jelly keeping on hand seventeen kinds.&nbsp; She loved her African violets and all flowers in her sun room.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was a member of St.Johns Lutheran Church.

Survivors include children Marcia Pedersen of&nbsp; Plattsmouth, NE, John (Shelly) Reed of Cozad, NE, Debra ( Dennis) Meredith of Gothenburg, NE, Terri Hergenrader (Jim McAdams) of Lincoln, NE, Kim (Todd) Morse of Omaha, NE, Doug (Kim) Reed of&nbsp; Seward, NE; fifteen Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild ,her sister, Wilma Quelle of Beatrice, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.&nbsp;

Gail was preceded in death by&nbsp; her husband John (Jack); her parents and parents-in-law; son-in-law, Roger Pedersen; grandson Ryan Reed; great-grandson, Wyatt Meredith; brothers, Earl and Alvin Christiansen; sister, Helga Anderson and her husband Durl; brother-in-law, Wilbur Quelle; and sister-in-law, Mollie Christiansen.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November&nbsp; 13, 2020, from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Private Family Service will take place at St. Johns Lutheran Church.

Public Graveside Services will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Cozad, Nebrasa.&nbsp;

Memorials may be given to the family to be used later for 4-H trophies.
