Hannah Hageman, age 97, of Cambridge, Nebraska, passed away at the Sarah Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, Nebraska. She was born in Holbrook, NE on May 1, 1923 to Charles and Mary Frances (Neel) Odell. She moved to Cambridge when she was in the third grade.

On July 17, 1940, she married Frances “George” B. Marts in Norton, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union three children were born:&nbsp; Jimmy Lee, Mary Francine, and Robert Allen.&nbsp; She and George farmed north of Bartley, before moving into town in 1959.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on November 9, 1971. She later married Roy Hageman on October 31, 1975, adding Roy’s children to the family:&nbsp; Robert, Sheila, and Jeff. Roy preceded her in death on June 25, 2003.

Hannah worked side by side in Roy’s construction business.&nbsp; Together they built the round houses west of Cambridge. Hannah moved to McCook, NE in 2011 to Highland Park and in 2019 to the Sarah Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.

Hannah loved to cook, make jellies, play cards, embroider, and spend time with family. She bartended and cooked at The Rocket Inn of Indianola, NE.&nbsp; She and her cousin, Eva, would go fishing around the area together, and Hannah, not being bashful, would move right next to whoever was catching fish. She had an infectious smile and laugh. &nbsp;She and Roy traveled throughout the continental United States, making their way to all 50 states in their motor home. The couple took many trips to Europe, seeing sites in Italy, Spain, England, and Ireland.

Hannah was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary; husbands, George and Roy; son, Jimmy Lee; grandson, Christopher; sister, Lottie Rogers; five brothers, George, Frank, Sam, Jim, Harold.

Hannah is survived by her son, Robert and wife, Tina Marts of Bartley; daughter, Frani and husband, Jerry Chambers of McCook; two step-sons, Bob Hageman and wife, Linda Hageman of Colorado, Jeff Hageman of Omaha; step-daughter, Sheila and husband, Kenny Colson of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-children; 4 great great-grandchildren.

Marilyn Louise Lutz  (1936-2020)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Janice Louise DeWester was born July 17, 1944, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Everett and Louise (Hardwick) Stamm and departed this life on November 14, 2020, from her home in Wauneta, Nebraska, at the age of 76. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jan was raised on a farm 12 miles northwest of Benkelman and attended District 36, a one room schoolhouse through the 8th grade. She boarded in town during her high school years and graduated from Benkelman High School in 1962. She went on to attend her first year of college at Colorado State in Greeley, Colorado. She transferred to Chadron State College the following year. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;On December 14, 1963, she married Gary Lynn DeWester. To this union were born Kimberly Lynn (stillborn), Michelle Louise, Teresa Lynn, and Chad Everett. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The couple remained in Chadron until Gary graduated from college. They moved to Ruskin, Nebraska, where they started their family. During their time in Ruskin they made many wonderful friendships that have lasted for years. In 1974 Gary and Jan moved to Wauneta, Nebraska, where she permanently resided. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jan gave her life to Jesus as a young girl attending summer Bible School at the Pleasant Valley Church a couple miles northeast of her home. Later in life she was baptized in the Frenchman river west of Wauneta. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Love for her family was first place to everything she did. She raised her kids to love Jesus and encouraged them to live their faith every day. She was caring, kind and encouraging, always reflecting the light of hope that was within her. In word and deed she honored the Lord, and leaves that legacy to her kids and grandkids. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jan passed away Saturday morning, November 14, 2020, at her home in Wauneta, surrounded by her family. Janice Louise DeWester  (1944-2020)

Merlene Grint&nbsp; (1925-2020),&nbsp;Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great Great Grandmother, she loved life to the fullest.

Merlene Pullian Grint, age 95, passed away November 16, 2020, at the Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Merlene was born August 6, 1925, to Floyd and Sadie (Lundy) Pulliam. She grew up on a farmstead west of Sargent, NE (Cummings Park). She attended grade school at a country school near the Cummings Park area and later attended high school in Sargent and graduated in 1942. After graduation she attended a business college in Grand Island where she later did office work. 

Merlene married Norman Grint in May 1945. They made their home on a farmstead East of Sargent where they started farming and had a few milk cows. While on the farm they had two sons, John Edmond, and Richard Duane. Soon after the boys were born, they moved to town and purchased the Sun Theater owned by John Green. They then bought and opened a clothing store, the Fashion Nook, which after several years burned down. This resulted in closing the theater and moving the clothing store to the theater location, which remained there until they sold in 1984. During the late 70's she bought and moved the florist shop and opened and ran floral/gift shop for 6 years. During their time in town, in 1965, Norman and Merlene had a daughter, JoLynn.

Merlene retired in 1984. She enjoyed her retirement years, following her grandkids through 4H, rodeos, and sporting events. Norman and Merlene wintered in Arizona for 24 years and made life-long friends.

Merlene was a member of United Methodist Women’s Group, American Auxiliary, and card club. She thoroughly enjoyed her morning coffee club visiting with friends.

Merlene was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Sadie Pulliam, brother Reed and wife Virginia, and nephew Ron Pulliam. 

Survivors include sons John and Sheri Grint (Chadron), Dick and Coleen Grint (Sargent), daughter JoLynn and Brian Jones (Mason City), 12 grandchildren, 26 Great grandchildren, and one Great great grandchild.

Memorial service will be at a later date.

Merlene Grint  (1925-2020)

Edward J Schulte II, age 54 of Ansley, Nebraska left his earthly body November 15, 2020 at Broken Bow, NE. Ed was born February 11, 1966 in Grand Island, NE to Edward J. and Bernice (Holland) Schulte. He resided in Hastings and Grand Island, NE until the age of 6 when his family moved to Ansley, NE where he attended school and lived the rest of his adult life. His first job was at the Calamus Dam. On April 15, 1989 he married Kimberly Thompson. Edward brought one son, Louis Keezer, to the marriage &amp; Kimberly brought one son, Joshua Thompson. Together they had 2 children. Son, Joel Edward and daughter, Brittney Bernice.

Throughout his life he has worked for Art Anderson Hay Company, Sargent Pipe Company and went on to own his own appliance business in Ansley. His most rewarding position was being a truck driver during most of his married life. He made a lot of lifelong relationships being out on the road. Every time he and Kimberly traveled, they had to eat at truck stops and he would never go without stopping at “Shoemaker’s” in Lincoln, NE. The last 3 years he worked for Trotter’s Fertilizer in Ansley.

He loved hunting, trapping, and fishing and so wanted to go with his grandson, Jaxon this year. He was a well-known jokester and enjoyed his daily pranks with the ladies at “Custer’s Last Stop” in Ansley. He spooked ever so easy which made it so much more fun. Ed found a new passion for knife smithing. Ed enjoyed talking and learning about making knives. He was always the one to know just how to push Kim’s buttons and although he always had to get the “win” she loved him dearly for it. She even jokes that his passing in the early morning hours was so he would “win” one last time.

He was a wonderful, husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind to mourn him, wife Kimberly of Ansley, NE, sons Joshua and Kinley Thompson of Windsor, CO, Louis and Lisa Keezer of Oshkosh, NE,&nbsp; Joel Schulte and his fiancée Melissa Johnstone of Ansley, NE, and daughter, Brittney and Megan Cassidy of Kearney, NE. Grandchildren Alyssa, Landon, Selena, Jaxon, Charlie, David, and Cylas.

Ed had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and wanted everyone to have the same Blessed Assurance he had. He was not afraid to talk to anyone about his faith and pray with you at any time. Now he is dancing with God on his own cloud and we will be together again someday. Forever in Christ!

Graveside service will be Friday, November 20, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Ansley Cemetery Ansley, NE with J.J. White officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 19th&nbsp;from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm with family greeting 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE. He was a well-known jokester and enjoyed his daily pranks with the ladies at “Custer’s Last Stop” in Ansley. He spooked ever so easy which made it so much more fun. Ed found a new passion for knife smithing. Ed enjoyed talking and learning about making knives. He was always the one to know just how to push Kim’s buttons and although he always had to get the “win” she loved him dearly for it. She even jokes that his passing in the early morning hours was so he would “win” one last time.He was a wonderful, husband, father, and grandfather. Edward J. Schulte, II  (1966-2020)

On Saturday, November 14, 2020, Robert (Bob) Ray Schall of Broken Bow, NE passed away on his birthday, at the age of 84.&nbsp; Bob was born November 14, 1936 in Mason City, NE. to Jim and Olive (Crosley) Schall. He was the sixth child out of nine children. &nbsp;Bob graduated from Mason City High School in 1954 and joined the army in 1955 serving for two years active duty.

Bob was self-employed as a contractor for most of his life.&nbsp; He owned and operated a carpet and flooring store in Broken Bow, NE. for five years. Bob was well known in the Broken Bow area for his carpentry skills and has worked in many homes throughout the region.&nbsp; Bob loved to work and had a hard time saying no to people needing something done. He was still working the month before he passed away.

Bob was well known as a good-natured practical joker and many people in the area, and Bob himself, have been on the receiving end of those funnier moments in his life. He loved to fish and spent a lot of time at local lakes, and lake Michigan, fishing for salmon. He was a lifelong Husker fan and rarely missed a game. Bob was very interested in politics as a rare Nebraska Democrat and enjoyed lively conversations at the Tumbleweed Café.&nbsp; As an animal lover, he and Sandy rescued several dogs over the years.

Bob married and moved to Broken Bow in 1964 and had three children Tammy, Jackie, &amp; Sandy.&nbsp;

Bob married Sandy Sittler on September 1, 1979 and adopted her son Jeff. After three girls, he was excited to welcome a son into his life. &nbsp;Bob was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 41 years.

Family and friends could always count on Bob and his gentle kindness. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always had a joke or game for the kids.&nbsp; Bob was known to the grandkids as a very active grandpa who water skied into his seventies and loved to mischievously challenge them to board and card games.&nbsp;

Bob is survived by his wife Sandy of Broken Bow, four children Tammy (Casey) Turnbull of Knoxville, IA., Jackie (Doug) Caldwell of Overland Park, KS., Sandy Rapp of Overland Park, KS. &amp; Jeff (Holly) Schall of Trophy Club, TX.&nbsp; &nbsp;He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Nathan, Nicole, Natasha, Molly, Jake, Sam, Beck, Carsen, Stella and eleven great grandchildren.

Robert Ray "Bob" Schall  (1936-2020)

Phyllis Lorene Pressler, age&nbsp; 92, of Fort Worth, Texas, originally from North Platte, Nebraska, passed away November 14, 2020.

She was born on September 16, 1928 to Phillip and Eunice Helzer in Cairo, NE where she attended elementary school and graduated from Cairo High School. She married Roy Pressler on June 26, 1949 and lived in Hordville, NE, Gibbon, NE, Gothenburg, NE, North Platte, NE, and recently in Fort Worth, TX to be closer to her family. To this union three children were born, Robert, Rex and Dale.

She worked as a stenographer in Kearney, NE, a manager of a Tire and Battery store in Grand Island and as a manager of Lots to Love in the North Platte Mall after her boys graduated from High school. She was active in DAR serving as an officer, and RSVP in North Platte. She was a 50 year member of First United Methodist Church. She and Roy enjoyed traveling, they visiting all 50 states, China, Russia, Europe, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul; sister, Irene; brother-in-law, Alfred Woodburn; sister-in-law, Leota Helzer; father-in-law, William Pressler; mother-in-law, Goldie Pressler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dorsey and Opal Gay, Elwin and Lucille Ferrisand Arnold and Ruby Shultz.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Pressler; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Jean Pressler; sons, Robert and LouAnn Pressler of Fort Worth, TX, Rex and Cindy Pressler of Glendale, AZ, and Dale Susan Pressler of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday Nov.20, 2020 with Reverend Dr. Douglas Delp officiating at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Family Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska.&nbsp; Visitation will be Thursday November 19, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

Delbert T. Greeley, age 89, of North Platte, NE passed away November 17, 2020 at home. He was born on January 20, 1931 at North Platte to William Ted Greeley and Orpha E. (Powell) and grew up in North Platte.

He entered the United States Navy on May 31, 1949 and was honorably discharged on June 2, 1950.

Delbert was united in marriage to Dorothy Pebley on October 13, 1950.

He was a member of The North Platte Baptist Church, VFW, Eagles Club, American Legion and Moose Lodge.

Delbert is survived by grandsons, Joshua Greeley, Todd Roberts, James Evan, Shawn Scott and Cody Scott; granddaughters, Dawn Marie Briesch, Heather (Greg) Smolik, Dezarae Greeley; daughters-in-law, Linda Greeley and Kathy Greeley; son in law, Michael Scott; sister-in law, Sarah “Ginny” Harold ; several great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephew and cousins.

Patricia L. Harris, age 63, of rural Cozad, Nebraska died Sunday November 15th 2020, in Lincoln Nebraska.

Perch was born February 4th, 1957 in Gothenburg Nebr. to Tony and Bernice (Rasmussen) Gronewold.&nbsp; She grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1975. She then attended Kearney State College.

On May 19th, 1979 she married James Harris on her family farm north of Gothenburg. The couple first lived near Brady, Nebraska. Then in 1985 moved to their home south of Gothenburg, where it took her several years before she was able to claim to be a "Southsider".

She was a lifelong member of the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. Perch was a member of the Getaways Extension Club for 35 years. Perch had a knack for gardening and raising flowers and had many gardens as well as a love for house plants. She was always surrounded by dogs and cats her entire life and had many special ones but none like Gus. Perch had been employed at Pete's Lounge, Ribbons and Roses Floral, and her last job was as a truck dispatcher for the Nebraska Salt and Grain Co.

Surviving relatives include her husband of 41 years, James, of rural Cozad; daughter Barrie and husband Adam Kuhn of Lincoln, NE; sister Carol and husband Ron Hudson of Shelton, NE; brother Loren Gronewold and wife Carol of Sedona, Az., brother-in-law Mike Ripp of Kearney, NE; and brother-in-law Carol Kinnaman of Bloomington, lI.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Karma Ripp and Karen Kinnaman.

Services will be held at American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, November 20, 2020 at 10:30 am with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Zella Mae was born on April 1, 1930 to William and Margaret (Fox)Wilson near Moorefield, NE.&nbsp; Zella Mae grew up on the family farm south of Moorefield and attended Boston Ridge Country School near the family farm until 8th grade.

She resided on the family farm&nbsp; in Moorefield, NE.&nbsp; &nbsp;She married Kenneth E. Sanders on March 3, 1948 in North Platte, NE. Zella Mae and Kenneth lived on the family farm until they moved to Gothenburg, NE. &nbsp; Zella Mae loved the outdoors and working by Kenneth's side through the years.&nbsp; She loved her flowers and always attending to them.&nbsp; Zella Mae loved her Bible studies through the years. Walking was always one of her favorite past times. She and Kenneth loved to travel and enjoyed going square dancing. She was very involved in her church, worked with the children at Awanas as long as health would let her and MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) was always a favorite of hers.

Zella Mae Sanders  (1930-2020)

John Lawrence Linsley, age 76, of North Platte, Nebraska died November 17, 2020 at Centennial Park in North Platte. He had 9 brothers and sisters.

John graduated from East High in Sioux City, Iowa, with the class of 1962. Attended Morningside College following graduation majoring in chemistry. Enlisted in the United States Navy at age 19, following the footsteps of his father. John served in England, the North Sea and stateside. He worked as a clerk at a grocery store and gas station. He lived in San Diego before moving to Omaha. He moved to North Platte in 2007 where he settled in and has lived since.

Survivors include his many friends and caregivers at the Liberty House.

He had 9 brothers and sisters.John graduated from East High in Sioux City, Iowa, with the class of 1962. Attended Morningside College following graduation majoring in chemistry. Enlisted in the United States Navy at age 19, following the footsteps of his father. John served in England, the North Sea and stateside. He worked as a clerk at a grocery store and gas station. He lived in San Diego before moving to Omaha. John Lawrence Linsley  (1944-2020)

Bryce Daniel Wood, age 20, of North Platte, Nebraska died November 12, 2020 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. He was born in North Platte, on February 11, 2000 to Adrian Wood and Jessica Lynn Wood.

Bryce lived and worked in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 2018.

Bryce had an unparalleled passion for the outdoors. Most often he could be found hunting or at the inlet fishing. Bryce was known for having a “magic hook”, no fish was safe from him. He enjoyed playing pinball and the Big Buck Hunter games. He has a contagious smile and was loved by everyone he met. Bryce has a large family that loved him and he will be deeply missed.

Bryce Daniel Wood  (2000-2020)

Mildred Evelyn Baxter, age 101, of Palisade, NE passed away at her home in Palisade on November 16, 2020.

Mildred was born October 10, 1919 in Hickman, NE to parents Guy and Lillie (Wissell) Birt.&nbsp; She was one of four children born to this union.&nbsp; Mildred attended school in Hickman, graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1937.&nbsp; She then went on to attend the University of Nebraska where she obtained her teaching certificate.

Mildred married the love of her life, Viron Baxter, on June 2, 1942 in Hickman. The couple made their home in Palisade, Viron’s hometown, where Mildred taught elementary school before becoming the proud parents of four children; Judith Ann was born in 1944 while Viron was in Italy during WWII, Barbara Jean was born in 1946, Patricia Louise in 1951 and David Eugene in 1954.&nbsp; Mildred also worked at the Frenchman Valley Bank, retiring in 1986.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Mildred’s earliest childhood memories included losing her mother at the age of three and her twin brother a short time before, walking a mile and a half to school each day, milking cows and picking cherries and mulberries.&nbsp;

Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palisade.&nbsp; She loved to sing and direct the choir and sang many solos in various events over the years.&nbsp; She was active in Eastern Star as well as other masonic organizations and community clubs, which included Girl Scouts and Club Scouts. Mildred will be remembered as a fantastic baker. She decorated many birthday cakes over the years and baked delicious pies with the best crusts.&nbsp; Mildred was a certified EMT, she sewed lots of clothes for her kids over the years, she loved to travel, read books, listen to audio books and most of all, she loved spending time with her family.&nbsp;

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; step mothers, Emma Birt in 1945 and Florence Birt in 1988; her husband, Viron Baxter in 2015; twin brother, Milton Birt; and her two sisters, Eileen Birt and Myra Williams.

Those left to celebrate her life include her children, David (Debi) Baxter of Driggs, ID, Judith (Darrel) Wissmann of Bertrand, NE, Barbara (Jon) Reilly of Omaha, NE and Patricia (Gerald) Post of Palisade; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mildren Evelyn Baxter  (1919-2020)

Ervin Eugene Gerver, age 85, passed away on November 16, 2020 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE with his family by his side.

Ervin Eugene (Gene) Gerver was born in St. Francis, KS on June 7, 1935 to Ervin and Dorothy (Toohey) Gerver. During his youth, the family lived in Kansas, Colorado and settled in McCook, NE where Gene graduated in 1954.

Gene married Voleta (Joan) Randolph on December 5, 1955.&nbsp; They raised four children:&nbsp; Kathy, Theresa (Pete), Sandra (Sandy) and William (Bill). McCook was home but Gene’s love of driving took the family to many places such as Yellowstone, Black Hills, the Denver Zoo and Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. They also visited family on these trips.

Gene belonged to the McCook Jaycees and the Elks. He also helped with the Girl Scouts by setting up the campgrounds before the week-long camp started for the troops around the area. He gladly served as a softball coach for his girls. On Gene’s 45th birthday he received a unique gift, a grandson, Matthew Tiller.

Gene worked many jobs. Trucking and mechanic work were his favorites.&nbsp; Anytime he could drive would make him happy. At age 63, Gene retired from Consolidated Motor Freight and began his new career at home. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping out wherever he was needed, and&nbsp;traveling with Joan in search for information on their ancestry. They traveled to Del Rio, TX for the winter for 15 years.&nbsp; They resided in their 5th wheel camper at the same campground where they made even more friends.

When Gene’s health started to fail, they quit going and enjoyed playing cards with whoever would show up and play with them.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, JoAnn and Clara Ruth.

Gene is survived by his wife Joan; his four children; Kathy Gerver, Theresa (Jim) Tiller, Sandy (Pat) Wesch and Bill (Toni) Gerver; his grandchildren; Brock (Stephanie) Malcolm, Bryce Malcolm, Brendon (girlfriend Shayla) Malcolm, Matthew (Daisy) Tiller, Deana (Bryan) McWhorter, Bret (Maggie) Tiller, Chelsey (Lee) Benes, Marie Wesch, Danni (Walter) Pedersen, Scott (Tristen) Wesch, Chance Gerver and Nick Gerver; thirteen great grandsons and four great granddaughters; his sister, Alice O’Dea of Scott City, KS; aunt Vola Fenner of Goodland, KS and many cousins and friends.

Ervin Eugene "Gene" Gerver  (1935-2020)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was into life full time and for the long run.&nbsp; He was born on September 29, 1927 to Isabel (Bennison) and Max Hoffmeister at Imperial, Nebraska, the oldest of three, growing up with sisters Mary (Hillberry) and Ruth (Piva).&nbsp; He attended grade and high school in Imperial, graduating from Chase County High School in 1946.&nbsp; while in high school, he was active in many school activities as well as football and basketball. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He joined the service in 1946, taking basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps, rising to the rank of Tech Fourth Class (E4) in 2 years.&nbsp; He was a soldier in the American Occupational Forces in Japan.&nbsp; The boat that he was on to take home from San Francisco to Japan had to turn back before they left the harbor because it was taking on water, twice.&nbsp; While underway, he noticed there were very few lifeboats for a lot of people.&nbsp; He never cared to go out on the water after that.&nbsp; His troop transport ship docked at Honolulu Harbor, but he did not get to go ashore other than standing guard at the gangplank.&nbsp; His boat stopped at Okinawa and the soldiers on board had to march around the island.&nbsp; It kept them out of mischief.&nbsp; While marching, he saw no standing tree or structure that was not destroyed.&nbsp; Upon arriving in occupied Japan, he was transported through Hiroshima, which he described as a wasteland, and looked just like the films.&nbsp; He served at Nagasaki, the second bomb site.&nbsp; While in Japan he was in a motor pool, often handling the paperwork.&nbsp; Whoever needed to check out a vehicle usually was judged by need by what was on their shoulder or the top or on the side.&nbsp; He once helped unload a supply boat in Incheon Harbor.&nbsp; He never understood how America landed there in the night in the Korean War a few years later.&nbsp; In the service he acquired a lot of mechanical training.&nbsp; His trust in mechanical war was gauged by this often said phrase "expect a 50% failure rate at the point of attack."&nbsp; He never complained about taxes after serving, seeing how taxes helped improve bad situations.&nbsp; He hated the devastation that was visited upon the country of Japan, experiencing great empathy for their people.&nbsp; One of the stories he told his children was that he could get his boots polished for the metal pop bottle caps, and that the Japanese people worked hard for very little.&nbsp; After serving, he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max became engaged to Gladys Bussell at the Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado on his way home from Japan.&nbsp; they married August 17, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Imperial, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max managed the family registered purebred Angus herd, one of the oldest herds in Nebraska, lasting over 97 consecutive years, first founded by his grandfather, Dr. Fred Hoffmeister.&nbsp; He and his father showed cattle many years at the Western Stock Show and took state champion bull at Ak-Sar-Ben.&nbsp; He was instrumental in creating the Southwestern Nebraska Angus Association, which helped the smaller ranchers to have a way to sell their animals.&nbsp; He was that association's president and sales manager for more than 25 years.&nbsp; He also was sales manager for several other Registered Angus Association sanctioned sales.&nbsp; He and Gladys attended the National Angus Association in Chicago, Illinois where he was voting delegate for Nebraska in 1962.&nbsp; At the Chase County Fair, he was active in supporting the Angus breed and helping with overall cattle husbandry. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was active in many civic activities.&nbsp; He was in Jaycees, a community improvement organization, and was elected to president in 1960.&nbsp; From that be became active in Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years helping many young men in that organization.&nbsp; He was active planning meetings, camping trips, outings, and other activities, helping those boys to become better citizens.&nbsp; While doing these activities, he took classes to improve himself to better serve the community.&nbsp; He also served on the Methodist Board and the Imperial School Board. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;No one would question that he wasn't a true Democrat.&nbsp; He always let them know. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was a great caretaker of animals and the land.&nbsp; He appreciated what God gave us.&nbsp; He helped people who needed help, often kids with their calves during showings.&nbsp; He believed in giving people a second chances.&nbsp; He worked hard to help the animals under his care.&nbsp; He had a blind calf, Pet, that he guided by placing his hand on the backbone above the hips.&nbsp; He was a good steward to his land, following practices that preserved and improved the land that he owned.&nbsp; He lived by the Boy Scout motto of always leaving a place better than you found it. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max passed away on Friday afternoon, November 13, 2020 at the Wauneta Care and therapy Center in Wauneta, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was 93 years of age. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was predeceased by his parents, Max and Isabel (Bennison) Hoffmeister;  </figure>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was into life full time and for the long run.&nbsp; He was born on September 29, 1927 to Isabel (Bennison) and Max Hoffmeister at Imperial, Nebraska, the oldest of three, growing up with sisters Mary (Hillberry) and Ruth (Piva).&nbsp; He attended grade and high school in Imperial, graduating from Chase County High School in 1946.&nbsp; while in high school, he was active in many school activities as well as football and basketball. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He joined the service in 1946, taking basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps, rising to the rank of Tech Fourth Class (E4) in 2 years.&nbsp; He was a soldier in the American Occupational Forces in Japan.&nbsp; The boat that he was on to take home from San Francisco to Japan had to turn back before they left the harbor because it was taking on water, twice.&nbsp; While underway, he noticed there were very few lifeboats for a lot of people.&nbsp; He never cared to go out on the water after that.&nbsp; His troop transport ship docked at Honolulu Harbor, but he did not get to go ashore other than standing guard at the gangplank.&nbsp; His boat stopped at Okinawa and the soldiers on board had to march around the island.&nbsp; It kept them out of mischief.&nbsp; While marching, he saw no standing tree or structure that was not destroyed.&nbsp; Upon arriving in occupied Japan, he was transported through Hiroshima, which he described as a wasteland, and looked just like the films.&nbsp; He served at Nagasaki, the second bomb site.&nbsp; While in Japan he was in a motor pool, often handling the paperwork.&nbsp; Whoever needed to check out a vehicle usually was judged by need by what was on their shoulder or the top or on the side.&nbsp; He once helped unload a supply boat in Incheon Harbor.&nbsp; He never understood how America landed there in the night in the Korean War a few years later.&nbsp; In the service he acquired a lot of mechanical training.&nbsp; His trust in mechanical war was gauged by this often said phrase "expect a 50% failure rate at the point of attack."&nbsp; He never complained about taxes after serving, seeing how taxes helped improve bad situations.&nbsp; He hated the devastation that was visited upon the country of Japan, experiencing great empathy for their people.&nbsp; One of the stories he told his children was that he could get his boots polished for the metal pop bottle caps, and that the Japanese people worked hard for very little.&nbsp; After serving, he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max became engaged to Gladys Bussell at the Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado on his way home from Japan.&nbsp; they married August 17, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Imperial, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max managed the family registered purebred Angus herd, one of the oldest herds in Nebraska, lasting over 97 consecutive years, first founded by his grandfather, Dr. Fred Hoffmeister.&nbsp; He and his father showed cattle many years at the Western Stock Show and took state champion bull at Ak-Sar-Ben.&nbsp; He was instrumental in creating the Southwestern Nebraska Angus Association, which helped the smaller ranchers to have a way to sell their animals.&nbsp; He was that association's president and sales manager for more than 25 years.&nbsp; He also was sales manager for several other Registered Angus Association sanctioned sales.&nbsp; He and Gladys attended the National Angus Association in Chicago, Illinois where he was voting delegate for Nebraska in 1962.&nbsp; At the Chase County Fair, he was active in supporting the Angus breed and helping with overall cattle husbandry. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was active in many civic activities.&nbsp; He was in Jaycees, a community improvement organization, and was elected to president in 1960.&nbsp; From that be became active in Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years helping many young men in that organization.&nbsp; He was active planning meetings, camping trips, outings, and other activities, helping those boys to become better citizens.&nbsp; While doing these activities, he took classes to improve himself to better serve the community.&nbsp; He also served on the Methodist Board and the Imperial School Board. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;No one would question that he wasn't a true Democrat.&nbsp; He always let them know. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was a great caretaker of animals and the land.&nbsp; He appreciated what God gave us.&nbsp; He helped people who needed help, often kids with their calves during showings.&nbsp; He believed in giving people a second chances.&nbsp; He worked hard to help the animals under his care.&nbsp; He had a blind calf, Pet, that he guided by placing his hand on the backbone above the hips.&nbsp; He was a good steward to his land, following practices that preserved and improved the land that he owned.&nbsp; He lived by the Boy Scout motto of always leaving a place better than you found it. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max passed away on Friday afternoon, November 13, 2020 at the Wauneta Care and therapy Center in Wauneta, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was 93 years of age. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Max was predeceased by his parents, Max and Isabel (Bennison) Hoffmeister; Jerry Whitson, age 79, of North Platte, NE passed away on November 13, 2020 at North Platte Care Center.

He was born on May 26, 1941 to Woodrow and Margaret Whitson in Hollis, OK and grew up in Texas and graduated from Dodson High School in 1960 and moved to NE and worked for several car dealers as a mechanic. Jerry owned Whitson Auto Repair and he retired in 2000.

He was united in marriage on October 19, 1970 to Sandi McConnell: and to this union 1 daughter and 4 sons were born.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Woody Whitson.

He is survived by his wife Sandi; daughter, Melissa (Craig) Malsbury of North Platte, NE; sons, Rob (Tina Arguello) Whitson of North Platte, NE, Darren (Phillip Patton) Whitson of Tulsa, OK, Don (Dennise) Whitson of Lincoln, NE and Larry (Tracy) Whitson of North Platte, NE; sister, Alice Kay (Paul) Burch of Amarillo, TX; and brother, Ken Whitson of Oklahoma City, OK; and grandchildren, Reed Wagner of Lincoln, NE, Season Malsbury (George Gipe) of Kearney, NE, Ashley (Bo) Young of North Platte and Arlana (Cameron) Walther of North Platte.

Vicki Diane Tobiasson Ogier, age 67, of Wallace, NE passed away on November 14, 2020 at home.

She was born on September 28, 1953 in North Platte, NE to Danny and Mary (McHarness) Tobiasson and grew up south of North Platte, NE.

Vicki was united in marriage to Clarence Ogier on December 26, 1981 at Centennial, Wyoming after which the couple made their home in Wallace, Nebraska.

She was a member of the Wallace Rural Fire and Rescue Auxiliary and The Creek Crew.

Vicki was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and many loved animals throughout the years.

She is survived by son, Kenny (Tiffany) Ogier; grandchildren, Nathan Ogier and Shelby Ogier; sister, Janie (Lee) Sedlacek; brother, Tom (Lori) Tobiasson her beloved dog “Codie”; and numerous other family members and friends.

Graveside Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2020 at Morningview Cemetery in Wallace, NE with Chaplain Brenda Lee officiating. Ronald C. Beisner, Sr., age 81, of North Platte, Nebraska died unexpectedly on November 16, 2020, while at Faith Regional Health in Norfolk. Ron was born March 18, 1939, to Clyne and Hilda (Haskins) Beisner in North Platte where he resided all his life.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in 1957 then worked for Fairmont Dairy and Frito Lay before starting his career with Municipal Light and Water, which lasted until he retired as Supervisor of the Service Department.&nbsp; Back in the days, Ron was also the projectionist at the Fox Theater and Pawnee Drive-in. On November 17, 1957, Ron married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Leonhardt, in Sutherland, Nebraska and they made their home in North Platte.&nbsp; They raised three children and enjoyed 61 years together until Sharon's death last year. Ron was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eagles Aeries #2839 and the Flatlander Car Club.&nbsp; He liked building clocks, his old cars and being around his buddies.&nbsp; Ron especially loved his wife, she was his world, and they enjoyed traveling together. He leaves behind his children, Ron, Jr. (Kathy) Beisner and Lisa McNeel, of North Platte, Nebraska and Rick, Sr. (Sally) Beisner, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 10&nbsp;grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jeri (Gary) Funk, of Sutherland; brothers-in-law, Doug (Debbie) Leonhardt, of Lake Havasu, AZ and Donnie (Tammy) Leonhardt, of Azle, TX; as well as other family. Sharon Kay Minshull  (1942-2020)

Harlan&nbsp;Herrick, age 94, of North Platte, Nebraska died at Linden Court in North Platte on November 15, 2020.

Harlan was born to J. Lee and Mae Herrick on April 8, 1926, in Morefield, Nebraska, where he grew up. Harlan attended school in Stockville, Nebraska and after graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Army. He honorably served our country from 1944-46 then returned to Stockville and got married.

On December 6, 1947, Harlan married Shirley Floro and they made their home in Curtis, Nebraska before moving to North Platte, Nebraska in '56. The couple raised eight children and were married for over 60 years when Shirley passed away.

Over the years Harlan had a variety of jobs. He worked as a policeman, was a conductor on the Union Pacific Railroad, did fueler brush sales, worked for Old Home Bread, did construction and eventually opened Jerry's Donuts. Harlan also got his broker's license and sold real estate, working for Robert's Realty and Gateway Realty, then retired in 2011.

Harlan was an active member of the Berean Church. He enjoyed playing pool and helping the kids with their remodeling projects. Harlan was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Along with his wife, Shirley, Harlan was preceded in death by their daughter, Lori Dougherty; his parents, Lee and Mae; brothers, Art, Wilbur and Vincent Herrick; great-grandson, Michael Abbott; and great great-granddaughters, Lily and Jasmine Merksick.

Harlan leaves behind his children, Harlan Herrick, Daniel (Jacque) Herrick, Randy Herrick, Deborah (Robert) Bostwick and Cindy (Perry) Hall, all of North Platte, Nebraska, Donna (Mike) Coleman, of Hershey, Nebraska, and Sharon (David) Christensen, of Papillion, Nebraska; brothers, Lynn (Donna) Herrick, of Brady, Nebraska, and Ted Herrick and Norman (Betty) Herrick, of North Platte, Nebraska; as well as 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and other family.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the Berean Church in North Platte. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore, in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.

The couple raised eight children and were married for over 60 years when Shirley passed away.Over the years Harlan had a variety of jobs. He worked as a policeman, was a conductor on the Union Pacific Railroad, did fueler brush sales, worked for Old Home Bread, did construction and eventually opened Jerry's Donuts. Harlan also got his broker's license and sold real estate, working for Robert's Realty and Gateway Realty, then retired in 2011.Harlan was an active member of the Berean Church. He enjoyed playing pool and helping the kids with their remodeling projects. Harlan was a loving husband, father and grandfather.Along with his wife, Shirley, Harlan was preceded in death by their daughter, Lori Dougherty; his parents, Lee and Mae; brothers, Art, Wilbur and Vincent Herrick; great-grandson, Michael Abbott; and great great-granddaughters, Lily and Jasmine Merksick.Harlan leaves behind his children, Harlan Herrick, Daniel (Jacque) Herrick, Randy Herrick, Deborah (Robert) Bostwick and Cindy (Perry) Hall, all of North Platte, Nebraska, Donna (Mike) Coleman, of Hershey, Nebraska, and Sharon (David) Christensen, of Papillion, Nebraska; brothers, Lynn (Donna) Herrick, of Brady, Nebraska, and Ted Herrick and Norman (Betty) Herrick, of North Platte, Nebraska; as well as 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and other family.Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the Berean Church in North Platte. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska. Harlan Herrick  (1926-2020)

Joseph Kuklis of Cozad, Nebraska passed away November 13, 2020 at Emerald Care and Rehab at the age of 97. Joe was born July 8, 1923 in St Paul, Nebraska to Josef and Terezia (Houska) Kuklis. While attending high school, Joe worked at Hamburger Meat Market where he delivered meat orders on his bicycle. Joe graduated from St Paul High School with the class of 1941. After graduation Joe continued working at the meat market until he was drafted into the Army in March of 1943. He was deployed to Europe where he earned the rank of Private First Class (PFC) and served with Company C of the 7th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division, until he was honorably discharged in March of 1946. When he returned to St Paul he worked for Anderson Lockers. He met the love of his life Sylvia Nagorski, and they were married on August 16, 1949 at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church. To this union, eight children were born.&nbsp; In 1953 they moved to Loup City, Nebraska where Joe worked in the meat department of the grocery store. In 1965 the family moved to Cozad when Joe was recruited to work at F&amp;S Sausage, where he was a meat cutter for 10 years. Joe worked as a painter at Tenneco Automotive where he retired after 15 years.

 Joe was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church for 55 years where he was a member of the choir.&nbsp; Joe belonged to and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, Post 77. He was a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 890. Joe and Sylvia enjoyed going on bus tours and attending their grandchildren's activities. Joe never met a stranger and was well-known for striking up a friendly conversation everywhere he went. A favorite piece of advice for him to share was "never take a wooden nickel." Joe enjoyed working outdoors on his yard and garden, watching western movies, listening to polka music and cheering on the Huskers. 

Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Helen, his parents, his wife, daughter, Cecelia Williams, son-in-law, David Barela, son, Gerald Kuklis and infant son, Thomas Kevin. 

Joe is survived by and will be greatly missed by his children, Michael Kuklis (Michael Daudier) of Lake Worth Beach, FL, Ramona (Phillip) Griffith of Carbondale, CO, Dan (Janna) Kuklis of Grand Island, NE, LaDonna Barela (Russ Besmer) of Cozad, NE, Jeff (Stacy) Kuklis of Milford, NE, and son-in-law, Dennis Williams of Arizona; grandchildren Stace (Laura) Williams, Darcy (Dave) Pastian, Hilary (Tim) Myers, Damion (Stacy) Williams, Ceslie Kuklis, Joelie Kuklis, Caleb (Laura) Griffith, Claire (Justin) Erickson, Casey (Leah) Griffith, Allison (Ryan) Sloan, Jon Kuklis, Isaac Barela, Morgan Kuklis, Carter Kuklis and Karlee Kuklis, and great-grandchildren Sean, Brandon, Sara, Addie, Davey, Matthew, Benjamin, Shay, Peri, Rilyn and Tyce; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Joe will be remembered for the deep love he held for his family and church and the kindness he showed to others. He was a good man.

William "Bill" Watkins, age 81, of Arnold, Nebraska died on November 12, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp; Bill was born on October 16, 1939.

Clara J. Hamilton  (1935-2020)

Florene R. Burton, age 93, of McCook, Nebraska passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

Florene was born on September 26, 1927 in Beatrice, NE to parents Fred and Tina Brandt. She was one of four siblings. &nbsp;Florene attended elementary school in Beatrice before her family moved to Hastings, NE where she graduated from Hastings High School with the Class of 1945.&nbsp; Following high school, Florene attended Hastings College, Colorado College and the University of Virginia receiving both a bachelors degree and a masters degree in early childhood education.&nbsp;

Florene taught in Hastings and Colorado Springs until she retired after 43 years in the classroom.&nbsp; Florene moved to McCook in 2001 and continued to be an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teaching sorority. She was also a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McCook where she participated in women’s groups at the local and state levels.

Florene was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother in law, Dale (Winifred) Workman; and her brother and sister in law, Delbert (Sherrie) Brandt.&nbsp;

Florene is survived by one son, Douglas Burton of Dutch John, UT; brother and sister in law, Don (Marilyn) Brandt of McCook; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.&nbsp;

Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 6 to 8PM on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, McCook, with Pastor Thalia Woodworth officiating.

Burial will held at 3PM on Monday, November 23 at the Evergreen Cemetery&nbsp;in Beatrice, NE.
