Charles “Bud” Gottschalk age 81 of Broken Bow passed away on April 24, 2020 at the Brookestone View Care Home in Broken Bow.

Charles “Bud” Edward Gottschalk was born on January 12, 1939 at Hebron, NE to Kenneth and Wilma Jane Hendrickson Gottschalk.&nbsp; Bud attended grade school at Hebron and later graduated from Superior High School in 1957.&nbsp; The family moved to Broken Bow where they purchased the “Jack &amp; Jill” grocery store.&nbsp; They later built a new store in 1964.&nbsp; In addition to working many hours at the grocery store, Bud and Diane enjoyed working on their farm east of Broken Bow, where they not only farmed, but raised and showed Angus Cattle for several years.&nbsp; Bud and Diane retired from the grocery store in 2009.&nbsp;

Bud and Diane have been together since 1979. Then on September 9, 1982 Bud married Diane (Stoeser-Holloway). &nbsp;They spent most of their lives in Broken Bow.&nbsp;

Bud is survived by his wife Diane of Broken Bow, two sons, Gary Gottschalk of Broken Bow and Greg Gottschalk of Grand Island, two step sons, Kirby (Sheri)Holloway of Burwell, and Kyle Holloway of Rapid City, SD, ten grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a brother, KC (Marita) Gottschalk of Broken Bow, and a sister Kay (Gary) Fenton of Broken Bow.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Brad, a brother Dan, and a grandchild Kody Holloway.

BryLee Madelyn Marie Wheeler, left this world before we got to know her. She was welcomed into Heaven and became an angel on Thursday, April 23, 2020, when she was delivered at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

BryLee will forever be in the hearts of her parents and family.

Marilyn Jean Swanson, 80, of North Platte, passed away at Centennial&nbsp; Park Retirement Village on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

Marilyn was born to Delmon and Lucille (Kuiper) Van Zante on March 8, 1940, in Lynnville, Iowa.&nbsp; She grew up and graduated high school in Lynnville-Sully then went to work at Grinnell General Hospital.

On July 16, 1970, in the "Little Brown Church" in Nashua, Iowa, Marilyn was united in marriage to Robert 'Bob' Swanson.&nbsp; The couple lived in Grinnell, Iowa, a few years before moving to North Platte in 1973.&nbsp; Marilyn then went to work as a secretary for Platte Valley Finance for 25 years.&nbsp; She and Bob were married for over 28 years when he passed away.

In 2001, Marilyn met Ken Ladely.&nbsp; They started a business, K &amp; M Improvements, and enjoyed country dancing together. After Ken died in 2009, Marilyn met Rich Gillming five years later and they liked spending their time traveling and camping at the lake.

Marilyn was a member of First United Methodist Church, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion Auxiliary, Eagle's Aeries Auxiliary #2839, and the Women of the Moose Lodge.&nbsp; Marilyn was also a member and Queen of a local Red Hat Society.

She loved sewing, crafts and music and enjoyed participating in craft shows and traveling.&nbsp; Marilyn visited many different countries in Europe and went to England in 2000 for the Boy Scouts International Jamboree.&nbsp; She was even a Nebraska Ambassador of Music with her grandson, Scott, in 2001.&nbsp; Marilyn loved her family and enjoyed her life.

Along with her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by her parents, Delmon and Lucille Van Zante; stepfather, Herb Smith; and brother-in-law, Dwayne Bruinekool.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Kimberlee (Rodney) Ury, of North Platte; grandsons, Robert (Melissa) Ury and Scott (Stacy) Ury; great-grandchildren, Eli, Abigail, Wyatt and Hunter; sister, Marcella Bruinekool (friend, Chet Mathes, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and other family.

Jeanette “Jan” Louise Baker, 80, of North Platte, passed away April 18, 2020,&nbsp;at the Linden Court Care Center in North Platte.

Jeanette Louise Jensen was born on June 26, 1939 in North Platte, Ne. to&nbsp;Ralph and Frances Jensen.

Jeanette graduated from North Platte High School in 1957. Jeanette attended&nbsp;North Platte School of Commerce and graduated with a secretarial degree.

Jeanette met the love of her life, Earl I Baker, in 1957 and they were married&nbsp;on Feb. 8, 1958, in Julesburg, Colorado. From the blessed union three sons&nbsp;were born, Michael, Mark and Jeffrey.

Jeanette was baptized at First Lutheran Church and later joined the First&nbsp;Christian Church, where she served as a deacon and an Elder.

The family moved for short periods of time to Julesburg and Scottsbluff, and&nbsp;then returned to North Platte. Jeannette was employed at Sears and with Max&nbsp;Beiersdorf Physical Therapist before going to First National Bank where she&nbsp;retired after 25 years. After retirement, Jeanette enjoyed very much working&nbsp;at First Choice Art &amp; Frame with her son Michael and his wife Cinda.

Jeanette was a member of many organizations including Beta Sigma Phi,&nbsp;Elks Club, Eagles Club, Red Hat Ladies Club, Bunco Club and Marsha’s&nbsp;Attic Painters Clubs.

Jeanette loved to paint, do crafts, dance, and travel with her husband. She and&nbsp;Earl enjoyed camping with the family and were members of the Lincoln&nbsp;County Wildlife Club for over 30 years.

Jeanette and Earl were married for 54 years. Earl was the love of her life and&nbsp;best friend. Jeanette was also very close to her sons and their families.

Jeannette was a very caring and vibrant person and everyone she met was her&nbsp;friend. Her family and extended family always came first including sons,&nbsp;grandchildren, nephews, nieces, siblings. Jeanette made everyone feel&nbsp;special.

After retirement Jeanette and Earl went on numerous trips. They would pull&nbsp;their travel trailer south during the winters to Arizona, New Mexico and&nbsp;Mexico, often traveling with their dear friends. Jeanette and Earl spent a lot&nbsp;of time in Branson, Mo. For two winters they stayed in Branson while Earl&nbsp;worked for country singer, Roy Clark as an usher. They loved music and&nbsp;dancing.

Jeanette is survived by her sons, Michael E. (Cinda) Baker and Mark A.&nbsp;Baker, all of North Platte; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren;&nbsp;and 3 great- great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dennis (Gail) and Donald&nbsp;(Faith) both of Lincoln NE and sister, Sheila Kay Freeze (Robert) of North&nbsp;Platte.

Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Frances Jensen;&nbsp;her husband Earl I Baker; their youngest son, Jeffrey Scott; and a great-&nbsp;grandson, Brandon Schulkey.

Jeannette was loved and cherished by many and will be deeply missed.

Mildred was born in Merna, NE on March 3, 1925, to Charles Jefferson and Dorothy Ann (Kaminska) Call.

Mildred graduated from Broken Bow High School. After graduation she worked for Burlington RR,&nbsp;working out of Ashby, NE. She met JD Gier at a dance in Thedford, NE. JD and Mildred were married May&nbsp;28, 1946 in Thedford, where they made their home on a ranch. After the blizzard of 1949, they moved to&nbsp;Wallace, NE. They farmed in Wallace and Hayes Center. Mildred worked in the office at Gibson’s&nbsp;Discount Center for 20 years. They retired on a acreage near Hershey, NE. Mildred was an excellent&nbsp;cook, enjoyed her shopping, gardening, canning, and loved being a ranch/farm wife.

Mildred loved her cats and family, sometimes in that order. She was a Huge Husker Fan.

Survivors include her three children: Barbara (Bruce) Closman, Maxwell, NE, Peggy (Derald) Wolfe and&nbsp;Jack (Mary) Gier all North Platte, NE. Sister-in-Law LaVon Purdum, Valentine, NE; 10 grandchildren; 20&nbsp;great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; special 93-year-old nephew, Richard Ellison, of&nbsp;Chandler, AZ.

Herbert "Shorty" T. Magana, 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 12, 2020 at Gothenburg Health in Gothenburg, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born July 16, 1931 in Maple Park, IL, son of Emigdio Tututi-Cruz and Hermina Nieves.

He was united in marriage to Molly Martinez on April 25, 1956 in Lexington, to this union four children were born: Juanita, Rick, Sylvia, Herbert Jr. and then later adopted sons Frank and Jesse Magana. Special granddaughter Jessica Rodriguez that he and Molly raised since the age of 2 months old, she was the primary care taker. A special thank you to his daughter in law that helped him by being a provider for transport for dialysis, Laurae Magana.

Shorty worked at Mann Hay Company and Island Dehy.

He enjoyed fishing, dancing, and spending time with all of his family and friends.

Survivors include wife, Molly Magana of Gothenburg, NE;&nbsp; three daughters, Juanita (Marco) Valenzuela of Columbus, Sylvia (Gary) Risman of Cimarron, KS, Carmen(Felix)Tututi Vitela of Mexico, four sons, Rick (Hedi) Magana .of Grand Island, NE, Herbert (Janice) Magana Jr. of Gothenburg, NE, Frank (Laurae) Magana of Lexington, NE, Jesse (Annette) Magana of Gothenburg, NE; Granddaughter Jessica Rodríguez (Jay, 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Herbert "Shorty" T. Magana (1931-2020)

Edgar Lynn Oxford, 72, passed away April 20, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska after a long illness.

Ed was born January 15, 1948 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Laurence and Marjorie Oxford.

Ed attended grade school at Myers School (Dist. 278, a mile east of where he grew up on the Devine Ranch, east of Pressey Park. He graduated from Oconto High School in 1966. He went to work for Sargent Irrigation right out of high school and worked there a few years before going to work for Gilbert Horn. While working for Gilbert, he met Vicki Arnold, and after a short courtship, they were married at the Burr Oak Church, July 22, 1972. &nbsp;To this union, 2 boys were born, Riley Jo and Cody Lynn. It was love at first sight for both of them. Ed married his best friend and lifelong companion. They never went anywhere without each other.

Ed and Vicki moved to Sargent in the summer of 1973 to work on the Rogers River Ranch west of Sargent. The family lived in the Sargent area until 2004, moving for a short time back closer to home in 1978. But Sargent had become our “home” and we missed it and moved back a year later. Ed worked several jobs throughout his life in Sargent, including Coop, Sargent Sale Barn, and City of Sargent. Ed found his true passion was entrepreneurship. He started and ran Ed’s Greenhouse, and then Little Log Company, and later Logs and More for many years. He and his helpers made thousands of birdhouses and sold them all over the United States and some out of the country. Ed created the original log birdhouse! He was proud of selling 1,000 log birdhouses on QVC in person on national T.V. in less than 8 minutes. As trends changed, Ed noticed it was the food vendors making the sales at the many craft shows we participated in, so he decided to turn our camper into our first food trailer, and Redneck Catering was born! We moved to Broken Bow in 2004 to be closer to his work. Ed ran Ed’s Redneck Catering until his health was getting worse two years ago. Because of his failing health, we moved to Kearney in February of this year.

Ed was a happy, upbeat, friendly guy. He loved people. He loved and was so proud of his boys and their families. He never felt sorry for himself and never blamed anybody for anything. Something he had to keep teaching his wife! Ed was very giving and would share anything he had or give it to you if you needed it. Ed had a relationship with God and was baptized April 21, 1984.

Ed is survived by his wife, Vicki and two sons, Riley (Melissa) of Comstock and Cody (Steffanie) of Sargent. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Rowdy, Shaylee, Rusty, and Tristian. He is also survived by his brother Paul (Earla) of Burwell, sister Ferrall (Gary) of Grand Island, and brother Clayton of Oconto. Also, brother-in-law Garey Arnold from Kearney and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Rodger and Twila Nichols of Sumner.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Marjorie Oxford and in-laws, Jerk and Jean Arnold. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Dean and Rollie Jay.

A private Graveside Memorial service and burial will be Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Broken Bow Township Cemetery with Travis Schauda officiating. Memerials can be made to the family for a later designation. A register book can be signed Friday, April 24, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Edgar Lynn Oxford (1948-2020

Ina Jean Blauhorn Giles, 92, died April 19, 2020 in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; Ina Jean&nbsp;Blauhorn was born October 7, 1927 on a farm near Palmer, NE to William andAnna Otto Blauhorn.&nbsp; She attended a rural K-8 school and graduated from Archer High School.&nbsp; During Ina Jean’s youth she was a member of the country church, Zion Evangelical Church later becoming the United Methodist Church, where her Godly principles were formed guiding her throughout life.&nbsp; After high school Ina Jean moved to Grand Island, NE and worked in Hesteds Department Store as a clerk and office secretary.&nbsp; 

While living in Grand Island she met Charles R. Giles of Elsmere, NE at a dance.&nbsp; People bragged that they were good dancing partners and the courtship began.&nbsp; Ina Jean and Charles married in the Archer Evangelical United Brethren Church on March 12, 1950.&nbsp; They made their life-long home in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; 

Four children were born to this union, Gene R. Giles, wife Jane, of Alliance, NE, Jimmy R. Giles, deceased, Randall D. Giles, San Diego CA, and Sally J. Giles, Denver, CO.&nbsp; Ina Jean was a loving grandmother and great grandmother to Nicholas G. Giles, wife Michelle and children Kaitlyn, twins Karter and Khloe of Lincoln, NE, Lucas G. Giles, wife Natalie and son Lucas Jr. of Summerset, South Dakota, and Zachary Eskridge, wife Ashlei and son Jack of Austin, Texas.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Ina Jean dedicated her life to God, family and community.&nbsp; She truly was a domestic goddess driving kids to and from school, sewing, gardening, canning and always home cooked meals.&nbsp; She would send her kids/grandkids greeting cards and packages of goodies.&nbsp; The home was continually decorated for every season and every holiday.&nbsp; Ina Jean enjoyed music and loved to sing, playing the radio all day long.&nbsp; She never missed phone calls to her children including the very day of her passing.

Ina Jean was a member of the Broken Bow United Methodist Church, receiving her 75-year member recognition pin in 2017.&nbsp; She was also a long-time member of a women’s church circle.&nbsp; She participated in the Samaritan’s Christmas Shoebox gift giving and served the local community by gathering donations for the Red Cross, Food Pantry and making calls for the bloodmobile drive.

A great joy of Ina Jean’s was being a member of several bridge clubs as well as having friends over for coffee and conversation.&nbsp; She was devoted to the annual Thomson Addition neighborhood picnic, attended numerous local events over the years including the One Box Pheasant Hunt house parties and women’s events being recognized as the oldest woman attendee in 2017 at the age of 90.

Ina Jean is survived by three children, grandsons and great grandchildren, as well as brother Orville Blauhorn and wife Barbara of Palmer, NE and sister Edna Blauhorn Shull of Central City, NE and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn Jean Ramsdell age 46 of Broken Bow passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the CHI Good Samaritan Health in Kearney, NE.

Carolyn was born April 4, 1974 in St. Paul, NE to Albert and Ellen (Janssen) Roach.

Carolyn is survived by her biological children Dusty Neaterous, Nicole (Alex) Burnett, Ashley McNeff (significant other Devin O’Brien, Nicholas McNeff, grandchildren Olivia Burnett and Tyson Burnett, brothers Gary Roach, Jeff (Anna) Roach, Mike Roach, and four nephews.

Carolyn Jean Ramsdell (1974-2020

Angenette (Hammond) Adams-Denesia, age 95, passed away on April 11, 2020 at Brookestone View in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; She was born January 26, 1925, near Mason City, NE to Bill and Agnes (Davitt) Hammond.&nbsp; She attended a one room country school, known as Gifford School, for 8 years; attended Berwyn High School; then transferred and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1943.&nbsp; Later, in the Cadet Nurse Corps, she attended Lincoln General Hospital, which was affiliated with the University of Nebraska.

Angenette married Russell Adams, Jr. in 1945.&nbsp; Six children were born to this union:&nbsp; Dwayne, Cheryl, Jerry, Bill, Lawrence and Leslie.&nbsp; The family all worked on a farm east of Broken Bow milking cows, farming, and feeding cattle.&nbsp; They also owned and operated the Dairy Queen during the years.&nbsp; Angenette &amp; Russell formed Adams Land &amp; Cattle Company (ALCC) into a corporation on April 23, 1973.&nbsp; She was very proud of the company she helped build.

Angenette loved her family dearly and crocheted afghans for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; She enjoyed attending activities involving her grandkids and great grandkids over the years.&nbsp;

Angenette was a faithful church member and also very active in the community.&nbsp; She belonged to many organizations, such as, Extension Club, Catholic Altar Society, Catholic Daughters (charter member, Stephens' Ministries, Eucharistic Minister, American Legion Auxiliary, the Hospice program and was a charter member of the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byways.

In 1995, Angenette married Don Denesia and together they traveled the world.&nbsp; They especially enjoyed many adventuresome trips in their RV, “Precious.”

Angenette is survived by her husband, Don Denesia and four children;&nbsp; daughter, Cheryl Jarchow from Nolensville, TN; three sons,&nbsp; Jerry Adams (Linda, Bill Adams (Connie) of Broken Bow, and Lawrence Adams (Marilyn) of Lincoln; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Ann Adams, of San Antonio, TX.&nbsp; Also, she was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren (and one on the way).&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers Earl Hammond (Beverly) of Biloxi, MS, Larry Hammond (Marlis) of Carmel, IN and Bill Hammond, of Omaha, NE, sister-in-law, Joan Hammond, of Dallas, TX and brother-in-law, Bruce Evans, of Naples, FL.

She was proceeded in death, by her first husband, Russell Adams, Jr. in 1990, sons, Leslie and Dwayne, her parents, brothers, Leonard, Jack, Bob and Marvin and sister, Alnetta.

Graveside services with immediate family will be held on April 15, 2020.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Catholic Altar Society or Hospice.

Mass and Celebration of Angenette’s life will be at a later date when travel is permitted.

 </figure>Angenette (Hammond) Adams-Denesia, age 95, passed away on April 11, 2020 at Brookestone View in Broken Bow, NE.&nbsp; She was born January 26, 1925, near Mason City, NE to Bill and Agnes (Davitt) Hammond.&nbsp; She attended a one room country school, known as Gifford School, for 8 years; attended Berwyn High School; then transferred and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1943.&nbsp; Later, in the Cadet Nurse Corps, she attended Lincoln General Hospital, which was affiliated with the University of Nebraska.Angenette married Russell Adams, Jr. in 1945.&nbsp; Six children were born to this union:&nbsp; Dwayne, Cheryl, Jerry, Bill, Lawrence and Leslie.&nbsp; The family all worked on a farm east of Broken Bow milking cows, farming, and feeding cattle.&nbsp; They also owned and operated the Dairy Queen during the years.&nbsp; Angenette &amp; Russell formed Adams Land &amp; Cattle Company (ALCC) into a corporation on April 23, 1973.&nbsp; She was very proud of the company she helped build.Angenette loved her family dearly and crocheted afghans for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; She enjoyed attending activities involving her grandkids and great grandkids over the years.&nbsp;Angenette was a faithful church member and also very active in the community.&nbsp; She belonged to many organizations, such as, Extension Club, Catholic Altar Society, Catholic Daughters (charter member, Stephens' Ministries, Eucharistic Minister, American Legion Auxiliary, the Hospice program and was a charter member of the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byways.In 1995, Angenette married Don Denesia and together they traveled the world.&nbsp; They especially enjoyed many adventuresome trips in their RV, “Precious.”Angenette is survived by her husband, Don Denesia and four children;&nbsp; daughter, Cheryl Jarchow from Nolensville, TN; three sons,&nbsp; Jerry Adams (Linda, Bill Adams (Connie) of Broken Bow, and Lawrence Adams (Marilyn) of Lincoln; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Ann Adams, of San Antonio, TX.&nbsp; Also, she was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren (and one on the way).&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers Earl Hammond (Beverly) of Biloxi, MS, Larry Hammond (Marlis) of Carmel, IN and Bill Hammond, of Omaha, NE, sister-in-law, Joan Hammond, of Dallas, TX and brother-in-law, Bruce Evans, of Naples, FL.She was proceeded in death, by her first husband, Russell Adams, Jr. in 1990, sons, Leslie and Dwayne, her parents, brothers, Leonard, Jack, Bob and Marvin and sister, Alnetta.Graveside services with immediate family will be held on April 15, 2020.&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Catholic Altar Society or Hospice.Mass and Celebration of Angenette’s life will be at a later date when travel is permitted.Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Melvin Sappenfield, 81, of North Platte, Nebraska died at the North Platte Care Center on Saturday, April 18, 2020.

Melvin was born at Leoti, Kansas to Pearl and Ruth Sappenfield on May 13, 1938. He grew up in Leoti and Atwood, Kansas, then graduated from Atwood High School. Melvin joined the U.S. Navy in 1956 then returned home following his discharge to help take care of his dad.

On November 11, 1962, Melvin married LaVonne McClelland in Kansas where they lived. Eight years later they moved to North Platte and later divorced. Melvin later met Joleen Shaw, of Gothenburg, Nebraska and they became good friends. They were together until she passed away in 2013.

Melvin worked for Lystads Pest Control (which later became Eco Lab) until retiring in 2001. In retirement he became a fisherman and camper and liked to golf. He was a member of Indian Meadows Golf Course and a Past Master Mason in Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Ruth; and brother, Merle Sappenfield.

Melvin is survived by his sons, Michael (Gina) Sappenfield, of North Platte, and Jarett Sappenfield, of Hutchinson, Kansas; three&nbsp; grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other family.

Barbara Jean VanPelt, age 72, of Paxton, died at the North Platte Care Center on Saturday, April 18, 2020.



Barb was born to Joseph Curtis, Sr. and Ardis LaVonne (Eakins) Doucet on&nbsp;August 18, 1947, at Sutherland.&nbsp; The family lived in Sarben until Barb&nbsp;was six, then moved to North Platte where she graduated from North&nbsp;Platte High School in 1965.

After high school Barb worked at TRW, Memorial Hospital, Perlinger's&nbsp;Upholstery, the Elk's Club in Ogallala, Garnet's Cheetah Cafe, Ole's and&nbsp;Hehnkes Grocery Store. Over the years she worked as a nurse's aide,&nbsp;waitress, and butcher, and was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Paxton.&nbsp; Barb was also a Vacation Bible School teacher and&nbsp;4-H Leader, but her favorite job was being a mom.

On February 10, 1973, Barb married John Dean VanPelt at North Platte.&nbsp; They made their home in Paxton and raised four girls, Tina, Gina and&nbsp;twins, Raelyn and Cortney.

Barb enjoyed cooking and could make the best meals from her head even&nbsp;though she had many cook books, and when the kids were younger, she&nbsp;enjoyed watching them play sports.&nbsp; Her hobbies included making&nbsp;ceramics, leather belts and crocheting.&nbsp; She also liked playing pool and&nbsp;of course, "Happy Hour" at the local tavern.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe, Sr. and Ardis Doucet;&nbsp;brothers, Joe, Jr., Jack and a baby brother; in-laws, Wilmer and Agnes&nbsp;VanPelt; sister-in-law, Karen and husband, Al Priester; brother-in-law,&nbsp;Lyle Ecker; nephew, Jeff Ecker; and niece, Shelley Ecker.

Clara “Joyce” McNeal, dearly loved mother, grandmother and friend to all she met, 86, of North Platte was called to rest in peace to be with her beloved husband and her Lord Savior on April 13, 2020 at&nbsp;Centennial Park Retirement Village after a long life.

Joyce was born in Denver, CO on November 10, 1933 to Clifford and Helen Seaton. She attended school&nbsp;in Wellfleet and North Platte. She married Russell Boyd Wood and to this union four daughters were&nbsp;born, Cathy, Clare, Connie and Carol. Joyce worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a nurse’s aide, was a&nbsp;hostess at several restaurants and was a caregiver to the Kuroki’s, Mr. &amp; Mrs. Adams, and Mr. Farrell.&nbsp;On December 8, 1990 she married Stanley Bernard McNeal at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in&nbsp;North Platte where Joyce was a member for many years.

Joyce was a one of a kind, beautiful soul. She was witty, funny, and kind beyond measure, always&nbsp;putting everyone and everything before herself. She never had it easy raising four daughters on her&nbsp;own, but always kept her “true grit”. Joyce had a special charm about her, and her friends and family&nbsp;would agree. She loved all her girls, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren more than anything. She&nbsp;never knew a stranger and was very loving and kind to everyone. She woke up extra early to enjoy her&nbsp;morning coffee, she enjoyed playing cards and the whole family loved the card game, Cad. Joyce was&nbsp;very outspoken and social.

We all loved her and will miss her dearly. A special “thank you” to the staff at Centennial Park as well as&nbsp;all the friends that touched her life over the years.

John was born December 20, 1957, to Manuel, Jr. and Delphia (Bowen)&nbsp;Vargas at North Platte where he grew up.&nbsp; After his schooling, John went&nbsp;to work at the Holiday Inn (which later became Quality Inn) and worked&nbsp;there until retiring in 2018.

John married Sue Anderson, they had five children and later divorced.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2006 he met Brenda Wilson and they have been together ever since.

John enjoyed listening to country music, watching TV and relaxing at&nbsp;home.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Delphia; son,&nbsp;Michael Vargas; and sister, Connie Vargas.

John leaves behind his companion, Brenda Wilson, of North Platte;&nbsp;children, Steven Vargas, Phillip (Clarissa) Vargas and Ricky Vargas, all&nbsp;of North Platte, and Angie (Justin) Thompson, of Ansley; brother, Tony&nbsp;Vargas, of Topeka, KS; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild; his&nbsp;nephew; and other family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; and brother, David.

Gauge&nbsp; Soller, 16, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 6, 2020 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gauge Patrick Soller was born on December 17, 2003, to his loving mother Katy, and less-than-enthusiastic older brother, Shaddix, at Great Plains in North Platte, NE.

Gauge attended Gothenburg High grudgingly, as school was not his favorite subject. As a sophomore there, he enjoyed participating in FFA, wrestling (when he was not being pinned, trap shooting and baseball.

At a young age, Gauge learned to “Cowboy Up” and was happily partnered&nbsp; with his Papa Pat in caring for their growing cattle herd. It was Gauge’s dream to attend the University of Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture at Curtis, and major in Agriculture Management. The goal was for Gauge to take over the operation for his Papa so his grandfather could retire.

The favored grandchild of his great-grandmother Bev, (or so Gauge would say, he was always quick to do anything asked by his best girl.

Gauge was a member of the Crossing Fellowship and gave his heart to Jesus at Maranatha Bible Camp a few years ago.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Gauge’s best times were with his beautiful Bridget by his side and any of his many cohorts, in his beloved pickup Pearl, somewhere in the outdoors. Many times Gauge would have with him, his oldest cousin Kayvin, teaching him the ropes and reigns of life. Every friend of Gauge’s was a best friend, but Kayvin and Gauge were very close indeed.

Gauge never knew a stranger. Whether he met you at a trap shoot, a wrestling meet, or you were his favorite neighbor across the alley, you were a friend for life.Gauge’s best friends, however, were two of the original three, Momma and Shad. Though the family had been through so much, they were able to make it through every adversity because they had one another.

Gauge is survived by his loving mother, Katy Soller of Gothenburg; father, Joshua (Melissa) Trevino of Weslaco, TX; siblings, Shaddix, Faith, Kayla, Julie, Joshua Jr., John and JJ; his beloved future life partner, Bridget Mceachern; grandmother, Cindy Soller; grandfather, Pat Soller; and great-grandparents Donald and Beverly Soller; Aunt, Anny Soller, Uncle, Dustin Schneider and many other extended family and friends.

Gauge was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Ron Bice, cousin Zachary Rios and special companion, his pup, Muffy.

Benjamin Franklin Milleson, Jr. was born on January 7, 1931 at his grandparent’s home in Thedford.&nbsp; When he was 3 years old, his family moved to Elsmere.&nbsp; Junior attended Thedford high school while staying with his grandparents.&nbsp; He graduated in 1948.&nbsp; Junior met his sweetheart Marlene Saner at a dance in Halsey.&nbsp; He worked for his brother-in-law and sister, Gene and Dana Ruth Fink, until he was drafted to serve in the Army in 1952.&nbsp;

Junior completed basic training in Fort Riley, Kansas.&nbsp; He hitchhiked home after basic training to see Marlene before being deployed to Korea.&nbsp; He was flown from North Platte to San Francisco, and then on to Japan.&nbsp; From there, he was transported to Korea via boat.&nbsp; He began his service as a mechanic, and then worked in artillery for the remainder of his tour.&nbsp; During his time in the Army, he was promoted from Private to Sergeant.&nbsp; Junior returned home from Korea in 1954, where he continued to work for the Fink family.&nbsp; On occasional weekends he would travel to Denver to visit Marlene, as she took a job there while he was away. Marlene eventually moved home, and they were married on June 12, 1955.&nbsp; Junior worked alongside his in-laws Vesta and Dorothy Saner for 10 years before purchasing the ranch he called home in 1961.&nbsp; During their marriage, Junior and Marlene welcomed four children into their lives: Lishia, Byron, Vonda, and Ryan.&nbsp; Their second child, Byron, died in an accident at the age of 6.&nbsp; The loss of Byron was a tragedy never forgotten by Junior.&nbsp;

One of Junior’s first loves was flying. He began flying lessons prior to deploying to Korea. He earned his license after returning home. At the time, he earned his license faster than any other pilot in Broken Bow, with only 34 hours of flight time. He purchased his first airplane for $625 in 1958. He wrecked his second plane after having it for less than a month after running out of gas midflight due to a broken fuel gauge. Even after selling his last plane, he never lost his love of aviation by continuing to enjoy air shows with friends.

Junior enjoyed the trip he and Marlene took to Alaska in 2009, stating he wished they had gone sooner so they could have gone back a second time. Junior and Marlene begin spending winters in Yuma, AZ, where they made many friends and enjoyed the warm weather.

In addition to ranching his entire life and trucking for years, his hobbies included hunting, golfing, playing cards, watching rodeo, and college football.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Junior had a fiery temper, and yet was the most kind, compassionate, and loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family. He was most proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed following their endeavors. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Junior passed away on April 11, 2020 at Brookstone View in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his son Bryon, parents Frank and Lola Milleson, sister Dana Ruth and husband Gene Fink, sister Jeanette and husband Bob Edelman, and brother-in-law Dwight and wife Phyllis Saner.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Marlene, daughters Lishia (Dennis) of Alta Vista, Iowa; Vonda (Todd) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and son Ryan (Michelle) of Dunning, Nebraska; his grandchildren Heather (Lyle, Brandon (Jennie, Jace, Britt, Chantelle (Allen, Ty (fiancé Shelby) and Shaylee; and great grandchildren Tayten, Morgan, Braden, Tragen, Aspen, Timber, and Tinlee.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to the Brewster Fire Department in Junior’s honor.

The funeral service will be Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE with Pastor Mark Sievering officiating. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery with Military Honors at Purdum, NE.
