Ardyce Ann Dickey of Cozad passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe at the age of 84. Ardyce was born on January 28, 1940 in Cozad, Nebraska, to Herman and Martha (Holbein) Hansen. A proud graduate of Cozad High School, Ardyce furthered her education by attending Nebraska Wesleyan and Kearney State College. Ardyce devoted over 35 years of her life to shaping young minds as a second-grade teacher at Central Elementary. Her dedication and passion for teaching left a lasting impact on the many students she had the pleasure of guiding.

Ardyce married Gene Dickey on May 30, 1971, at her parent’s home in Cozad. Family was at the heart of Ardyce's life. She made Sunday dinners, birthday and anniversary celebrations, and holidays especially memorable for her loved ones. The greatest joys in her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her days.

Throughout her life, she remained active in her community, particularly at the Cozad United Methodist Church, where she served in various ways. Ardyce enjoyed working at the Cozad Methodist Thrift Shop, played in the bell choir, sang in the church choir, and loved working with Kids of the Kingdom.

In her personal life, Ardyce found joy in her hobbies. She had a deep love for flowers, particularly snapdragons, and spent many hours tending to her beautiful flower beds and pots. Her favorite color, yellow, was often reflected in the clothes she wore and the flowers she grew, brightening the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Ardyce also loved supporting her local teams, enjoying sports at Cozad High School, as well as cheering passionately for Nebraska football and volleyball. Additionally, Ardyce enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, cherishing the moments spent in their delightful company.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Martha Rae Wright. Ardyce is lovingly survived by her husband Gene of Cozad; daughter Stacy (Chris) Cole of Hastings, MN; grandchildren, Matt Mroczek (fiancé Bri McNelly) and Brooke Hernday and Mackenzie Cole; great grandchildren, Swaisen Mroczek, Alayna and Collin Hernday; and many other extended family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Cremation was chosen with a private family memorial service. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.

Eleanor May (Molzahn) Wagner was born May 19, 1931 to Emil and Carrie (Weiss) Molzahn. She was baptized May 20, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Nebraska by Pastor Fred A. Elze and confirmed on May 20, 1945 by Pastor Herbert J. Schulenburg also at Zion Lutheran Church. She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She attended school at rural District 23, Imperial Grade School and Chase County High School.

Eleanor married Arthur Wagner on February 5, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Walter A. Meyer. Four children blessed this union.

Eleanor taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She belonged to Fireman’s Auxiliary, Garden Club and Senior Saints.

Eleanor cleaned houses and her house was always spotless. She worked at Arnison’s clothing store and Colonial Kitchen.

She enjoyed gardening and crafting with her husband Art. She also enjoyed reading and sewing and sewed clothing for children and grandchildren. In her later years she did a lot of embroidery work.

Eleanor Passed away at Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 21, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Bertha Molzahn and Evelyn McCormick and brothers Herman Molzahn and Edward Molzahn; grandsons Jonathan Wagner and Alan Wagner; and grandson-in-law Nick Ryan.

Jack Ray Bishop, age 87, of Culbertson, NE passed away in North Platte, NE on Saturday, September 21, 2024.&nbsp;

Jack was born in Hayes Center, NE on December 17, 1936, to Malissa Ellen (Bannister) and Leonard Frank Bishop. Jack attended school in Hayes Center and graduated in 1954. He also attended Emily Griffin Trade School in Denver, CO.

On January 23, 1957, Jack joined the United States Army and was Honorably discharged on Dec 31, 1962. While in the Army, Jack received the Good Conduct and Sharpshooter (Carbine) medals and was part of the 249th Engineering Combat Battalion.

Jack married Shirley Ann Wilson on November 29, 1959, in Culbertson, NE. The couple made their home in North Platte and were blessed with three children.&nbsp;

Throughout the years Jack enjoyed being a heavy equipment operator and worked for Missouri Valley Construction and Hayes County throughout the years. His favorite past times included watching football, gardening, playing the lottery and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a past member of the Messiah Baptist Church in Denver, CO.&nbsp;

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John (Rose) Bishop, daughter-in-law Eva Bishop, brother-in-law Fred Hummer.

Jack is survived by his two sons, Jeff Bishop of Oklahoma City, OK and Gregg and wife Jeanne Bishop of Hayes Center; daughter Shauna and husband David Schutz of Culbertson; as well as his five grandchildren, Jill and husband Torey Hadwiger and their children Maxon, Lincoln and Quinn of Riverdale, NE, Terra and husband Cameron Higgins and their children Kyler, Holden and Cohen of Kearney, NE, Michael and wife Taylor Bishop and son Braxton of Seward, NE, Whitney and husband Ray Ashford and their children Jayden, Riya, Aliya, and Cobyn of Atwood, KS and Brady Stock and Kristy Eder and their children Alliyah, Mason, Conner, and Jase of Culbertson, NE; two sisters Judy Hummer and Janet Lytle of McCook, NE; sister-in-law Sharon Felker of Granby, CO and brother-in-law Darwin Wilson of Palisade, NE. Jack Ray Bishop (1936-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott L Porter, 52, reunited with his dad, Gary, unexpectedly on September 18, 2024. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, and coach/teammate/friend, who will be deeply missed by all.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott was born on March 25, 1972 in Hastings, NE. He graduated from Clay Center High School in 1990 and went on to play football and pursue his Bachelor’s of Science in Education at Wesleyan University. Scott met Tandi (Kramer) in Lincoln, NE in 1996 and they were united in marriage on May 23, 1998. He took his first teaching/coaching position at Silver Creek, NE in 1997, which later consolidated to Twin River. While in Silver Creek, Scott and Tandi started a family with two beautiful girls: Bailee and Shaye. In 2004, Scott and Tandi moved to Blue Hill to continue his career, where they were blessed with two more daughters: Karstyn and Bentlee. In 2015, Scott’s career led him to Cambridge, NE. Scott continued his career at Hitchcock County in 2018, where this would unknowingly be his final field. This is also where he was proud of his new role of becoming a grandpa.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott’s lifelong passion was sports, where he was known for his dedication to offer his guidance and support to the youth. He was a devoted dad. In his free time, he enjoyed following his girls in their activities, coaching young men and women on the field or on the court, spending time with his dear friends and family whether it be playing cornhole, going to the lake, watching football, chasing storms or just sharing stories.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Coach Porter’s greatest accomplishments started in high school where his team was the state champion in 1986. As a high school and college player he received numerous accolades. As a football coach he was a four time state finalist with two state championships with over 90% of his seasons ending in the state playoffs.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Scott is survived by his loving wife, Tandi; children: Bailee, Shaye (Keaton) Soucek, Karstyn, and Bentlee; and his granddaughter, Porter Soucek; parents, Cindy and Duane Pool of Raymond Ne; sister, Lisa (Eric) Bales of Lincoln; in-laws, Chet (Danele) Kramer of Lemoyne, Karma Kramer of Arthur, NE, Margaret Kostman of Arthur, NE, Tara (Brian) Bender of Kearney, NE, Reed (Micki) Kramer of Oshkosh, NE, and Jalen (Jesse) Snyder of Salida, CO, and numerous “favorite” nieces and nephews, aunts/uncles/cousins.

Scott Lee Porter (1972-2024)

Mary Jane Cohn, 97, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Linden Court.

Mary was born on March 20, 1927 in North Platte, NE the daughter of Clarence and Fern (Greeley) Stearns. &nbsp;

Mary grew up and attended school in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. &nbsp;She married Wilbur “Shorty” M. Cohn on October 13, 1946 in Oberlin, KS and together they had 5 children. &nbsp;Mary was a member of the First Christian Church, Moose Club, Eagles Club, Old Timers, RSVP, R&amp;R, and the Shriner’s Auxiliary all in North Platte. &nbsp;She and her husband Shorty did a lot of traveling and camping over the years. &nbsp;She volunteered in recent years with the Thrift Center and Great Plains Health Hospital.

She is survived by her children, Dennis Cohn of Topeka, KS, Larry (Shirley) Cohn of North Platte, Kathy (Steve) Mentzer of North Platte, and Dannie Cohn of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Wendi, Brandon, Alicia, Melissa, Tracy, Cindy, Travis “T.J.”, Jeremy, Amber, Daniel, Nicole, Ashley, and Savannah; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Claire Shields and Shirley Simpson both of Omaha; sister in laws, Jean Stearns of North Platte, and Laurel Cohn of Grand Island; daughter in law, Brenda Cohn of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. &nbsp;Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Mary Jane Cohn (1927-2024)

&nbsp; Regis Swanson, 72, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 18, 2024 in Kearney, Nebraska.

Regis-Heisler-Swanson was born February 25, 1952 in Mauston, WI. She was born to John and Doris Scully.

Regis attended and graduated from the Mauston area high school in 1970. She then moved to Milwaukee, WI, where she attended college for a period of time. Upon leaving Milwaukee she moved to Denver. Over the next several years she obtained her Realtor/Broker License. Regis sold Real Estate in the Denver area, a career she enjoyed because she loved people and helping them.

In 1980 she and her son Kent moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska, and purchased The Bar-W; she operated the bar for the next 10 or 12 years. During that time she made a tremendous amount of friends and became the friend of many more. Upon selling the bar she went to work for "Old West Realty". During her time with Old West Realty she had the opportunity to buy some pasture ground and began to put together her cow herd. Her cows were a great joy to her and she loved them dearly. Regis then bought and operated Gateway Realty of Gothenburg. She operated this until 2021, when she and her husband Doug retired to live on an acreage they had bought about 30 years prior west of Gothenburg.

Regis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doris Scully, her sister Karen Donavan and her brother Jack Scully.

Regis is survived by her husband Doug of Gothenburg, her son, Kent Heisler (Stacia Darling) of Gothenburg, brother, Tom (Nora) Scully, sister-in-law, Mary Anne Scully, grandson Klay Heisler, granddaughter Kynley Heisler and a life long friend Maureen Mallory of Salt Lake City, UT; also numerous nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.

Celebration Of Life will take place at a later date.

Stanley Eugene Bonde, 84, of Kearney, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society - St. Johns in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born on January 22, 1940, in Callaway, Nebraska to Oscar and Dorothy (Sterner) Bonde. He attended school in Callaway and graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1958. After school, he entered into the Army Reserves where he spent six months on active duty. On August 3, 1962, Stanley was united in marriage to Judy Griffith and two boys were blessed to this union: Frankie and Jamie. Their marriage would later end in divorce. He spent the majority of his life living in Callaway until 2023, when he moved to Kearney.

Stanley enjoyed the simple things in life. He spent many years doing what he loved the most, farming and ranching. When it came time for him to slow down, he still managed the farm with his knowledge of market trends, cattle prices, and connections with those that rented his land. He still drove, stopped at Co-op, Peg Stryker would get him a Mountain Dew, and he would be off to check on land and cattle, and visit with farmers. In his free time, he enjoyed trips to Lake McConaughy, demo derbies, tractor pulls, and going to cattle and bull sales with his son, Frank.

Those left to honor his memory are his sons, Frank (Susie) Bonde of Kearney, and Jamie (Lori) Bonde of Callaway; grandchildren, Dylan (Kailey) Bonde, Tiana Bonde, and Ty Bonde, all of Callaway; great-grandchildren, Carson Bonde, Brooklyn Bonde, Brock Bonde, and Brianna Bonde, all of Callaway; sister, Mercedee (Rod) Clifton of Providence, Rhode Island, as well as extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Bonde, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church in Callaway, with Ken Pitkin, officiating.&nbsp;

Stanley Eugene Bonde (1940-2024)

Leona Marie Loveless, 80, of Gothenburg, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 15, 1944, in Venango, Nebraska, to Edwin and Elnora (Suhr) Steinke. She attended school in Venango and graduated from Venango High School with the class of 1962. She transitioned to community college where she received her Associate degree in Business. On May 25, 1984, she was united in marriage to Carl William Loveless at the Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado. They made their home in Arvada before moving to Lexington, Nebraska in 1995, where she spent many years working in the loans and receivings department at the Homestead Bank before retiring. In 2014, the couple made their home in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Leona loved spending her days outdoors, working on her garden, watching her stargazer lilies bloom, and taking an evening to go fishing. If she wasn't outside, she was meticulously working away on a quilt or playing cards with her friends and family. She enjoyed spending quality time with her children but always held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, making sure they felt her love wherever they were.

Leona was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington for many years until her move to Gothenburg, where she began attending their Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a woman with an unwavering faith which helped her endure and persevere during some of the toughest moments in life. She rarely missed a Sunday service. Over the years, she assisted with teaching Sunday school, managed finances at her local church, as well as being a member of their Bell Choir.

Those left to cherish her memory is her children, Peter (Roxanna) Graham of Omaha, Veronica (Gene) Shepherd of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Patty (Ian) Stewart of Maxwell, Nebraska; grandchildren, Sarah Marie Shepherd, Josephine Nicole Stewart, Trace William Stewart, and Kort James Stewart; sisters, Eileen (Larry) Lacy of Juanita, Nebraska, and Linda (Gary) Newth of Venango, Nebraska, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Sandra Elizabeth Guerra Ceballos (1979-2024)

Carole Kay Curran, age 84, of Hayes Center, Nebraska passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in Wauneta, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Carole was born to parents Don L. and Helen (Swanson) Leffler in Palisade, Nebraska on June 16, 1940. She grew up in Hayes Center where she graduated from high school with the class of 1958.

She raised five kids while working at the Hayes Center Schools as a cook, bus driver, and secretary. Carole will be remembered for supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their events. Throughout her life, she was a member of the Hayes Center Union Congregational United Church of Christ.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate Carole’s life are her children, Dale Curran of Holbrook, NE, Cherri (Steve) Broz of Hayes Center, NE, and Janeen (Bob) Rosno of Hayes Center, NE; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.&nbsp;

Carole Kay Curran (1940-2024)

Jan&nbsp;George, wife of the late Ken George, passed away September 20, 2024, at age 90. &nbsp;

Jan, the daughter of Elmer and Marguerite Swanson, was born November 8, 1933.&nbsp; She grew up in Omaha where she graduated from Benson High School and later attended nursing school.&nbsp; Jan graduated from Immanuel Nursing School as a Registered Nurse and then worked at Children's Hospital in Omaha.

On September 11, 1954, Jan married Kenneth George in Omaha. &nbsp;The couple lived in Omaha for several years until Ken was transferred to North Platte in 1969 with his job at Northwestern Bell. They had three sons and were married for 63 years when Ken passed away.

Jan loved her family, her pet and companion, Tiffi, and she enjoyed being around people. &nbsp;She participated in many activities at the Senior Center and was involved with Compassionate Friends, PEO, Shrine Auxiliary and the Quilters Guild. &nbsp;She was also employed by North Platte Public Schools and worked in the reading program and media center.

Jan was a woman of faith and a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for Christians of 3 for 25 years and was a member of Ruth Circle. &nbsp;In later years she attended First Presbyterian Church. &nbsp;

Along with her husband, Ken, she was preceded in death by their son, Tim; her parents; brother, Warren Swanson and wife, Marilyn; sister-in-law, Nancy Lewis; and her beloved Tiffi.

Jan is survived by her sons, Steven George of Lakewood, CO, and Gary George (Jim Cox) of Omaha; nieces, Debbie Long (Hal) and Jamie Alley (Mike) and nephew, Russell Swanson (Tammy) and their families; and her cousins Miriam Sward and Elaine Spady (Steve) and family.

 </figure>Jan&nbsp;George, wife of the late Ken George, passed away September 20, 2024, at age 90. &nbsp;Jan, the daughter of Elmer and Marguerite Swanson, was born November 8, 1933.&nbsp; She grew up in Omaha where she graduated from Benson High School and later attended nursing school.&nbsp; Jan graduated from Immanuel Nursing School as a Registered Nurse and then worked at Children's Hospital in Omaha.On September 11, 1954, Jan married Kenneth George in Omaha. &nbsp;The couple lived in Omaha for several years until Ken was transferred to North Platte in 1969 with his job at Northwestern Bell. Jan George (1933-2024)

&nbsp; Jeremy Hayden Hartley (Khéya Wichása), the son of Lonnie and Patricia Hartley, was born May 2, 1972.&nbsp; He passed away unexpectedly at Great Plains Health on September 17, 2024, at the age of 52.

Jeremy was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and grew up in North Platte. After high school, he moved to Illinois for a while then returned home and married Kimberly Rudd.&nbsp; They made their home in North Platte and had a daughter, Araya, whom Jeremy raised.&nbsp; The couple later divorced.

Jeremy loved learning new things and was a man of God.&nbsp; He became a member of the Lakota Tribe where he was known as "Turtle Man" and later, studied Hebrew.&nbsp; Jeremy was a volunteer and member of the Hebrew Torah Center in North Platte.&nbsp; He not only studied religion, he practiced his faith and was always kind and helpful to others and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Jeremy Hartley (1972-2024)

On September 19, 2024, Taylor Fecht peacefully passed away at home in North Platte with her family at her side. &nbsp;She was 39 years old.

Taylor, the daughter of Brian and Stephanie Dorr, was born August 19, 1985, in North Platte where she grew up. &nbsp;She graduated from Hershey High School in 2003 then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. &nbsp;Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene then worked as a hygienist for 17 years at Maple Park Dental and Apex Dentistry.&nbsp;

On October 9, 2010, Taylor married Braxton Fecht. &nbsp;They settled in North Platte and welcomed two sons, Henley and Declan. &nbsp;She loved her time with her family and attending the boys' activities brought her great joy.

Taylor was a member of Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey. &nbsp;She was a woman of faith and enjoyed volunteering in different ways at church. &nbsp;In her free time she liked to read and paint with water colors and she loved listening to music and dancing with her boys. &nbsp;Taylor is gone too soon but leaves us with memories that we'll always treasure.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James Ziebell and Duane and Lorraine Dorr.

Taylor leaves behind her loving husband, Braxton, sons, Henley and Declan, and her parents, Brian and Stephanie Dorr, all of North Platte; her siblings, Marguerite Gallegos (Aaron) of Hayes Center, Turner Dorr (Bridgett) of Hershey and Marshall Dorr (Jaydn) of Kearney; her grandmother, Carol Ziebell of Cozad; parents-in-law, Tim Fecht of Gothenburg and Charlene Fecht of Tampa, FL; other family and numerous rowdy crazies that loved her!

Taylor Fecht (1985-2024)

Robert Keith Brennan, known to many as "Bob," was born on November 5, 1951, in Brush, Colorado to John and Anna Mae (Randall) Brennan. Bob passed away on September 17, 2024, in Kearney, Nebraska. Bob's journey was one of relentless dedication and a passion for fishing and hunting that many will remember fondly.

From his formative years in Stratton, where he graduated from Stratton High School in 1970, Bob developed a character molded by hard work and traditional values. In his earlier days, he embraced the rugged life of truck driving and construction. Bob later lent his work ethic to Midlands Construction, though the call of the open road eventually led him back to owning his truck.

Life for Bob was not only about work; it thrived in the richness of familial bonds and friendships. His beloved wife, Linda Rains, whom he met in high school and the two were later married at St. Joseph Catholic Church on March 11, 1972. Linda stood by him as a partner in every sense of the word. Together they nurtured a family that filled their lives with abundant love and laughter. Bob cherished every moment spent with his children, creating lasting memories that will linger in the hearts of the entire family.

Bob's passions were woven deeply into the fabric of his life. He found joy in the wilderness, hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to share his knowledge and love for nature. His heart soared with pride as he watched his grandchildren grow and shared with him the love of hunting and fishing. As a devoted leader in 4-H, he focused on shooting sports, guiding young minds into the beauty of the great outdoors and securing a sense of safety when it came to handling firearms. His commitment to the community didn’t stop there; he was actively involved in the Stratton Boy Scouts and served dutifully as Chief of the Stratton Volunteer Fire Department for several years, embodying the spirit of service that so many admired.

He had a special bond with his horse, Jack, and his favorite dog, A.J., companions that accompanied him through life's ups and downs. Bob's personality shone brightly with a sense of humor that endeared him to many. His laughter will echo in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him, a reminder of the warmth he brought into their lives.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda; his daughters, Jody (Adam) Parsons and Laci (Tommy) Glatfelter; his son, Clint (Dana); grandchildren, Caleb, Corey, Samantha, Emma, Parker, Ella, Hudson, and Huntley; brothers, Buck, Paul and Frank; and his sisters, Carol Hanes and Mary Brennan. Robert Keith Brennan (1951-2024)

Larry “Chip” Lee Richards, of Hayes Center, NE, passed away surrounded by family on September 17, 2024, at the age of 62, in Grand Island, NE.

Chip was born to parents Laryl L. and Mary Ann (Soncksen) Richards on July 3, 1962. He grew up in Hayes Center with his four sisters on the family farm.

Chip married Starla Messersmith on June 4, 1984, in Oberlin, KS. To this union four children were born. In addition to his lifelong endeavor with farming and ranching, Chip also spent time trucking. He served as a board member for the local COOP and as a deacon in his church. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church throughout his life where he also taught Sunday School. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate Chip’s life are his wife of 40 years, Starla Richards, of Hayes Center, NE; his children, Kip (Andrea) Richards of Hayes Center, NE, Buck (Heather) Richards of Wellfleet, NE, Tanner (Skylar) Hill of Mason City, NE and Weston (Derek) Crawford of Baldwin City, KS; grandchildren, Keenan, Hayley, and Sadie Richards, Ryder, Tucker, and River Richards, and MaryAnn and Chloe Hill; as well as sisters, Marilyn (Jimmie) Howard, Cynthia (Merle) Dake, Theresa (Don) Wymore and JoLynne (Mike) Ruppert; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Larry "Chip" Lee Richards (1962-2024)

&nbsp; Dr. Bernard G. Mullen, “Bernie”, 87, passed peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was born December 14, 1936 in Wewela, South Dakota to George and Margaret (Gierau) Mullen. Bernie had three sisters. Bernie’s family moved to Bloomfield when he was in high school. He worked at the family store, Mullen Market and was active in high school sports. He also would sometimes chaperone his older sisters at dances. Dancing was a life long passion of Bernie’s.

&nbsp; &nbsp; After Bernie graduated from Bloomfield High school, he attended Creighton University and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. On the dance floor in Memphis is where he met his future wife, Nona.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernard graduated with a Doctor of Optometry in 1959. Dr. Mullen completed his Army basic training after graduation and moved to McCook, Nebraska where he started practicing Optometry at McCook Eye Clinic. Bernie was called back to the service and was then honorably discharged from active duty in 1961 after serving at Fort Carson, Colorado. He returned to the Army reserve for the completion of his military obligation.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie convinced his southern sweetheart to move to McCook and Bernie and Nona were married Sept. 29, 1960. They had two children, Brenda and John.

Bernie was a lifetime member of the American Optometric Association. He served as President of the Nebraska organization and was Nebraska Optometrist of the year. He worked with the legislature to pass a bill that enabled optometrists to prescribe eye medications to their patients. He also started a lab, called Delta Enterprises with two other area optometrists. He was active in the National organization, attending conventions, conferences and keeping up on the changes in the field. Dr. Mullen retired from optometry after 43 years in 2002.

&nbsp; &nbsp; In addition to serving the community of McCook as an eye doctor, Bernie was active in his church, and community. He was in Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree and helped work fundraising booths at the church and county fair. He was active in Toastmasters, Kiwanis, the Elks club, the YMCA and on the boards of the golf course, community hospital and the YMCA. He and his buddies were regulars in the stands for McCook High school and College football and basketball.

Bernie was an avid golfer. He enjoyed working out at the Y, skiing in Colorado, dancing with his wife and friends. Bernie and Nona initiated, in memory of their son, The John Mullen Memorial Pro-Am which supported the Community Hospital. The family made the decision to retire the name after 30 years. The tournament is still in existence having recently changed to a one day format.

&nbsp; &nbsp; After 43 years in McCook, Bernie and Nona retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. There they enjoyed an active retirement for over 20 years. Bernie golfed almost daily and walked miles a day. He was again active in the community in the computer club, men’s club at church and he and Nona went dancing as often as they could. They enjoyed traveling to see family and friends and spent their winters in South Padre, Texas, walking on the beach and dancing.

Bernie moved to Lincoln, May 2023, after the sudden passing of his wife, Nona. He still enjoyed live music and dancing, walking outside and at the mall. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, long drives, especially around Holmes Lake and the local golf courses. He also enjoyed attending high school football games again with his daughter.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was a true gentleman and always insisted on opening doors for others and having them walk in front of him. He was kind, helpful and quick with a smile. In his younger days he was the perfect host and he and Nona loved to entertain and open their home to friends and family. Even his last year, he enjoyed hosting duties at his daughter’s home. Bernie was always there to help push a friend’s wheelchair and make sure he danced with everyone in the group and do whatever needed to be done. He didn’t walk through his day, he danced.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret; his son, John; his wife, Nona and his sister Martha Peters.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie is survived by his daughter, Brenda Mullen and granddaughter, Kerstin Mullen-Bagby, both of Lincoln; his grandson, Brandon Mullen-Bagby (Melissa Lee) of Silverton, OR and his great-granddaughter Ruby Lee of Silverton, OR. He is also survived by his sisters, Bernadette “Bernie” Skrivan and Marcella Bohart-Wills and brothers-in-law, Bill Skrivan and Jess Wills as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends near and far. We are all better people for having spent time with Bernie, he was always positive and inspirational and will be missed by all who knew him.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 am Saturday Sept. 21, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 7900 Trendwood Drive, Lincoln NE. Rosary to be held at 10:00, prior to the funeral. Graveside service and burial of ashes will be at Calvary Cemetery in McCook at a future date.&nbsp;

Mullen, “Bernie”, 87, passed peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was born December 14, 1936 in Wewela, South Dakota to George and Margaret (Gierau) Mullen. Bernie had three sisters. Bernie’s family moved to Bloomfield when he was in high school. He worked at the family store, Mullen Market and was active in high school sports. He also would sometimes chaperone his older sisters at dances. Dancing was a life long passion of Bernie’s.&nbsp; &nbsp; After Bernie graduated from Bloomfield High school, he attended Creighton University and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. On the dance floor in Memphis is where he met his future wife, Nona.&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernard graduated with a Doctor of Optometry in 1959. Dr. Mullen completed his Army basic training after graduation and moved to McCook, Nebraska where he started practicing Optometry at McCook Eye Clinic. Bernie was called back to the service and was then honorably discharged from active duty in 1961 after serving at Fort Carson, Colorado. He returned to the Army reserve for the completion of his military obligation.&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie convinced his southern sweetheart to move to McCook and Bernie and Nona were married Sept. 29, 1960. They had two children, Brenda and John.Bernie was a lifetime member of the American Optometric Association. He served as President of the Nebraska organization and was Nebraska Optometrist of the year. He worked with the legislature to pass a bill that enabled optometrists to prescribe eye medications to their patients. He also started a lab, called Delta Enterprises with two other area optometrists. He was active in the National organization, attending conventions, conferences and keeping up on the changes in the field. Dr. Mullen retired from optometry after 43 years in 2002.&nbsp; &nbsp; In addition to serving the community of McCook as an eye doctor, Bernie was active in his church, and community. He was in Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree and helped work fundraising booths at the church and county fair. He was active in Toastmasters, Kiwanis, the Elks club, the YMCA and on the boards of the golf course, community hospital and the YMCA. He and his buddies were regulars in the stands for McCook High school and College football and basketball.Bernie was an avid golfer. He enjoyed working out at the Y, skiing in Colorado, dancing with his wife and friends. Bernie and Nona initiated, in memory of their son, The John Mullen Memorial Pro-Am which supported the Community Hospital. The family made the decision to retire the name after 30 years. The tournament is still in existence having recently changed to a one day format.&nbsp; &nbsp; After 43 years in McCook, Bernie and Nona retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. There they enjoyed an active retirement for over 20 years. Bernie golfed almost daily and walked miles a day. He was again active in the community in the computer club, men’s club at church and he and Nona went dancing as often as they could. They enjoyed traveling to see family and friends and spent their winters in South Padre, Texas, walking on the beach and dancing.Bernie moved to Lincoln, May 2023, after the sudden passing of his wife, Nona. He still enjoyed live music and dancing, walking outside and at the mall. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, long drives, especially around Holmes Lake and the local golf courses. He also enjoyed attending high school football games again with his daughter.&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was a true gentleman and always insisted on opening doors for others and having them walk in front of him. He was kind, helpful and quick with a smile. In his younger days he was the perfect host and he and Nona loved to entertain and open their home to friends and family. Even his last year, he enjoyed hosting duties at his daughter’s home. Bernie was always there to help push a friend’s wheelchair and make sure he danced with everyone in the group and do whatever needed to be done. Dr. Bernard "Bernie" Mullen (1936-2024)

Carolyn K. (Cotton) Anthony, 85, passed away on September 18, 2024 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. &nbsp;Services will be held 10:00 am Monday, September 23 at First United Methodist Church in North Platte. &nbsp;Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Adams Swanson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery, Tryon, Nebraska, following the service.

Carolyn was born on August 12, 1939 in Alliance, NE to John Robert Cotton and Ora Juanita “Jack” (Bandy) Cotton. &nbsp;She graduated from McPherson County High School in 1956. &nbsp;She was united in marriage to Otis F. Anthony on May 28, 1956 in Julesburg, CO. &nbsp;They made their home in North Platte where Carolyn worked for O’Connor Department Store and then at McDonald State Bank for 18 years. &nbsp;In 1979, she and Otis moved to Angora, NE where she took a job with the Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance. &nbsp;She served as secretary to the division superintendent for 21 years before retiring. &nbsp;The couple returned to North Platte and remained there until Carolyn moved to Kearney in February 2022. &nbsp;She lived at Brookestone Gardens Senior Living Center until her death.

Family was the most important thing to Carolyn. Throughout her life, she treasured the time spent with siblings, children, grandchildren and all her extended family. &nbsp;She enjoyed cooking big family dinners and gatherings of any kind, especially when they involved a chocolate dessert!

She is survived by her children, Kimra (Mark) Schipporeit of Kearney, Mark (Ranee) Anthony of Alliance, grandchildren Jenna Tapia, Brett Schipporeit, Amanda (Jake) Keating, Cody (Katie) Anthony, Morgan (Christopher) Anthony, great grandchildren Robert, Ellie, Skylar, Kenley, Kiya, Jayla and Letti; sister Reva Coulter of Florida, sister-in-law Lois Cotton of Stapleton and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, brother Robert Cotton, brother-in-law William Coulter and her niece Leanna.

Gordon Gerald “Jerry” McIntosh, 89, of North Platte, NE died September 16, 2024 at Great Plains Health.

Jerry was born on March 14, 1935 in Grand Island, NE to Reuben and Mildred McIntosh. He attended Grand Island schools in his early years and North Platte High School when his father was transferred with Union Pacific Railroad. Jerry graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1953. He married his high school sweetheart, Dona Walsh, in 1953, and to this union 4 children were born.

Jerry worked as a clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years, was a member of TCU for 43 years and served as local chairman for 19 years. He was also a member of the Eagles Club #2839.

Jerry and Dona enjoyed fishing, driving on country roads, casinos and evenings on the patio.

He is survived by his children, Chris (Punky) Poff of LaCenter, WA, Robert (JoEllen) McIntosh of North Platte, and Kim Sorrells of North Platte; 10&nbsp; grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dona; daughter, Ranelle and grandson, Mike.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation was chosen.

Gordon Gerald "Jerry" McIntosh (1935-2024)

&nbsp; Ruth ‘LaVonne’ Hudson, age 90, died peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Walnut Creek, CA. She was born on July 14, 1934, in Spearman, TX. LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Marta Lucille Hudson, brothers Butch Baker [Irene], Phillip Baker [Diana], and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Russell Baker, mother, Ruth Lucille Baker [Tevebaugh], husband, Donald Byron Hudson, son, Nicholas Byron Hudson, an infant son, and brother, Don Russell Baker [Barbara].

LaVonne graduated from high school in Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1953. After graduation, she attended secretarial school in Denver, CO. On December 29, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald B. Hudson, at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells. As a devoted wife and partner, LaVonne supported Don during veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO by working as a receptionist for an ophthalmologist and cashier at Safeway. After graduation in 1960 Don and LaVonne purchased a veterinary practice [Twin Forks Clinic] in Benkelman, NE, and started their family. LaVonne fielded after hours veterinary calls to Don on the Motorola Radio and shuffled Marta and Nick to 4H Horse Shows, while actively serving the community. In 1977 Don and LaVonne sold the veterinary practice and moved to North Platte, NE, where Don accepted a position as UNL Extension Research Veterinarian.

LaVonne was a classy lady, devoted homemaker, mother, and community member. She was an active member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, Nebraska Cattlewomen, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, Extension Club, Winter Dance Club, North Platte Senior Center, and PEO. When Don pursued his passion for steer roping, LaVonne traveled with him across the country to the PRCA Senior Steer roping events. Reflecting on his cheerleader wife, Don once said that “LaVonne could have fun in a dirt storm”. &nbsp;As a side note, Don had to take ballroom dancing lessons in exchange for steer roping. When Don retired, LaVonne took great pride in the refurbishment of the century old house at Clearview Ranch in Benkelman. On the ranch, there was always a place for cowboys to congregate in LaVonne’s kitchen for a homecooked meal, laughter, conversation, and a pitch card game [which she won]. LaVonne enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing, and entertaining. Her love and compassion for her kittens, Corgi dogs, and Marta’s cow herd were a source of joy in recent years. Throughout her life, she was an avid rodeo fan. She was loved by all who met her and encouraged others always to have a positive attitude.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on September 26, 2024, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM [with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM] at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home, 421 W 4th Street, North Platte, NE. Ruth "LaVonne" Hudson (1934-2024)

Linda Beth (Hughes) Cox was born in Elwood, NE on August 29, 1942, to Francis Hughes and Dorothy Reynolds Hughes, the oldest of 5 children. Her pharmacist father moved the family to Arnold, NE when he opened the Hughes Drug Store in 1947. Linda graduated from Arnold High School in 1960 as valedictorian. She played volleyball and participated in many school activities. She also worked at the soda fountain at the family drug store and sold tickets at her grandfather Reynold's movie theater.

She later divorced in 1977 and moved to Mullen, where she worked at the Mullen Hospital as a nurse's aide and went on the ambulance as an EMT with Lloyd Ginkens as a driver since it was his Chevy station wagon. She went back to school at Mid Plains and received her LPN license. With the LPN degree, she and Joan moved to Mitchell, SD where she was then able to complete her RN degree within 1 year.&nbsp;Returning to Mullen, she married Marvin Cox on May 29, 1981, at Hastings Methodist Church where her uncle was pastor at the time. She began working for the Sand Hills Community Health Care Agency where she would provide immunizations and health screenings in a 4-county area for over 15 years. This was her most favorite nursing position. She and Marvin lived on the Cox Ranch northwest of Mullen till they moved to town in 2003. She loved gardening, flowers, and the Sandhills. Learning to be a Rancher's wife was a thrill as she enjoyed cooking for the hay crew and even helping Marvin with C-sections on cows during Easter dinners. As a nurse, she could stitch up the cow pretty good! After funding reductions to the SDHD, she helped establish the Oakwood Assisted Living facility in Valentine and then worked at the Sutherland rest home till she retired.&nbsp;Linda loved her family very much and enjoyed big family dinners at the holidays. She loved to cook and always made sure there was plenty of food, many items directly from her garden. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life, and she always wanted to know what they were doing. You can guarantee she always had a cookie or two in the jar for when they stopped by. She also always made sure the grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a Christmas ornament from Grandma &amp; Grandpa every year.&nbsp;Once retired, Linda and Marvin tried to travel a bit each year and went to trapshooting contests in Arizona and Nevada in winter, and during the summer to contests in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota, but in early 2019 she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which is a degenerative disease with no known cure. She continued her active life as long as she could but finally had to enter the Linden Court Care Facility in April 2023.&nbsp;She passed away on August 26, 2024, with her family close by. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Marvin and their children, Mallory, Donnie (Deb), Jamie, Michael, Joan (Clay), and David as well as grandchildren Zach (Erin), Tristen, Garret, Josh(Katie), Damian, Darien (Maria), DeNae, Savanna, Nathan, Lilly, and Will, as well as 6 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister and several nephews and nieces.&nbsp;&nbsp;Funeral services will be held on October 3, 2024, at the Mullen Methodist Church. Dinner will be provided at the church with services at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the Mullen Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to: Dry Valley Church or the ALS Association or P.O.
