Kenneth William VerMaas, Sr., 97, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born on March 1, 1927, in Sumner, Nebraska to Herbert (Slim) and Mary (Castleton) VerMaas. Ken joined the Army after high school graduation and was stationed in Panama. After W.W.II, he farmed near Sumner. He met Lola Wuehler in those years, and they married on March 12, 1952. Lola and Ken left farming behind to work in the Oil Industry. As always, Ken’s innate strength of character and physical ability enabled him to stand out to his superiors. He soon became a pipe fitter and then he and Lola traveled the United States as needed to work available jobs. Ken Jr. was born in Vernal, Utah and Yvonne was born in Sterling, Colorado.

In 1964, Kenneth and Lola decided to return to Nebraska where they worked hard to literally “build” a new profession and life for their family. Ken started VerMaas Construction and soon had a crew of workers helping him build homes in and around Lexington. Ken and Lola’s third child, Scott was born in Lexington in 1970. As usual, his stature and common sense enabled him to be an able leader of this venture. In addition, he and Lola bought the Busy Lunch and a Pool Hall and ran them while maintaining his carpentry business. Meanwhile, Lola was working as a Police Dispatcher. Despite their busy lives, Ken and Lola traveled the United States, first as a family, then as a couple. They drove to Alaska seven times.

Kenneth enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, as well as other sports. He was also a Lion’s Club member and served on the Lexington City Council for two terms. Kenneth was always a sports fan. He loved watching his children participate in various sports and later his grandchildren. In recent years he enjoyed watching great grandchildren compete in Jr. high, high school and college sports. One of the many special memories we all have of Ken were his hard hugs. He loved his family with intensity and enjoyed hearing about all their achievements.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lola and children, Kenneth VerMaas Jr. (Melanie Nieveen Denney), Yvonne (Roger) Nunn, and Scott (Renae Bailey) VerMaas; 6 grandchildren Kenneth VerMaas III (Chellona), Kimberly (Rusty) Sutton, Alanna (Jeff) Crawford, Nathan VerMaas (fiancé Madison Hodge), Caden VerMaas, and Bailey VerMaas. Great Grandchildren include: Madison, Kalli, Abbriel and Camryn Sutton; Kenadi and Delaney VerMaas; and Jax and Maddox Crawford. Sister, Marilyn Ladwig, Brother-in-law Eddie (Karen) Wuehler, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was proceded in death by his parents Herbert and Mary VerMaas, his in-laws Carl and Tillie Wuehler, his daughter in law, Janelle VerMaas, his brothers in law Bill Ladwig, Verlon Wuehler, Jerry Kapustka and Ray Fagot; sisters in law: Connie Wuehler and Mardell Schley; and great grand infants Sylvi Sutton and Lily and Liam Crawford.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the LexChristian Church in Lexington with Nate Lewis, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington following the service.

Kenneth William VerMaas, Sr. (1927-2024)

Ralph G. Casey Jr., aged 81, of Ogallala, NE, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Linden Court in North Platte, NE.

In 1969, Ralph married Charlette Ann Hood, and together they made Ogallala their home, raising their family there. Ralph began working at Cornhusker Glass in 1977 and remained there until his retirement.

He had a passion for camping, enjoyed cruising with his son, and loved socializing with friends. Ralph was known for his creativity, engaging conversations, and above all, his love for all family gatherings.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ray, and Martha Maben; his son, Andy Van Cura; his sisters, Dee Van Cura and Cheryl Terry; his brothers-in-law, Delmar Van Cura, Lionel “Pete” Brown, and Eugene Hood; and his grandson, James Van Cura.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Charlette; his sister, Jayne Brown; his sons, Ralph Casey III of Ogallala and Danny (Luanne) Van Cura of Hayes Center, NE; his daughters, AJ (Clyde) Reimer of Rockville, NE, and Darla (Terry) Walkenhorst of North Platte, NE; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ralph’s absence will be deeply felt by everyone who loved him.

Ralph Casey, Jr. (1943-2024)

Kelly Pflum passed away on August 30, 2024, in Castle Rock, Colorado, at the age of 61. She was born on September 4, 1962, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Lloyd A Pflum Jr. and Donna Ruthe (Roedel) Pflum. Kelly grew up in rural Chase County. She graduated from Chase County High School, laying the foundation for a compassionate career as a Licensed Practical Nurse.&nbsp;

Kelly was deeply committed to her profession working in Nursing Home Care. Her warmth and empathy left a lasting impact on both her patients and their families. The qualities she exemplified not only made her a respected healthcare provider but also a cherished friend to many. Kelly will be remembered not only for her professional contributions but for her deep love for her family and the friendships she nurtured throughout her journey.

Family was the cornerstone of Kelly's life. She loved spending time with her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kelly's love for her family was evident in every gathering and shared memory, which she cherished deeply.

Beyond her work and family, Kelly loved listening to country music and enjoyed attending concerts whenever possible. Her enthusiasm for life extended to her devotion to Husker Football, even at their worst, she was a committed fan.&nbsp;

Kelly is survived by her sons, Robert J. (Julie) Pflum and Steven A. Kelly Pflum (1962-2024)

On August 28, 2024, Dr. Louis Lamoine Hansen, aged 98, of Sutherland, formerly of Kearney and Omaha, passed away at the Sutherland Care Center. &nbsp;Among the many incredible achievements of his life, writing a 28-page memoir was one. &nbsp;Capturing the brightest memories of his mind, a condensed version of Louis’s memoir follows:

“On Mother’s Day, May 9th, 1926, a son was born to Louis and Sena Hansen on a farm nine miles south of Minden, Nebraska. &nbsp;The fifth of eight children, I was that son weighing 10 and ¾ pounds. &nbsp;I now recount the occurrences which have, in my mind, affected the ebb and flow of my life.

My grade school, Kearney County District 30, was a one-room building heated by wood and a coal burning potbellied stove. &nbsp;All eight grades were in the same room, I was the only student in my grade for all eight years. &nbsp;My first paying job, on the farm, came when I was ten. &nbsp;One of the neighbors gave me twenty-five cents a day to drive a team of horses hitched to a hayrack. &nbsp;

My senior year in high school, I tested and qualified for the Airforce Flight Program. &nbsp;I didn’t have 20/20 vision so I didn’t pass the physical. &nbsp;As a result, I was drafted into the Army and was sent to basic training on November 16, 1944. &nbsp;I served in the 158th Regimental Combat Team (Bushmasters) as a rifleman in WWII in the Philippines and Japan. &nbsp;On May 16, 1947, I mustered out and took a Greyhound bus from Monterey, California to Minden. &nbsp;I worked for my dad as a carpenter and painter the rest of that summer until a friend talked me into going to college with him. &nbsp;I majored in social studies and physical education. &nbsp;Without a doubt, my greatest feat in Lincoln was finding the perfect girl. &nbsp;A good friend of mine set me up for a blind date with Marian Hufman. &nbsp;After a couple of months, I asked Marian to wear my Fraternity pin, and she accepted. &nbsp;I went home for Easter break and bought a ¼ carat keepsake engagement ring. &nbsp;Our first date after Easter, I proposed, and Marian accepted the ring. &nbsp;I graduated from Wesleyan and went home to Minden. &nbsp;Midway through the summer, I accepted a teaching and coaching job in Cedar Bluffs. &nbsp;On July 21, 1951, I married my beautiful Marian, who I can truthfully say is the only girl I have ever loved with the exception of my family. &nbsp;We moved back to Lincoln and I took a job as a door-to-door salesman for Omaha Baking Company. &nbsp;The birth of our first child, Bill, came on December 16, 1952. &nbsp;On December 24, 1954, we experienced the birth of our beautiful daughter, Barbara. &nbsp;We were then blessed with the birth of our third child, Bob, on November 9, 1959. &nbsp;Life doesn’t get any better than the growth of a family. &nbsp;

After 5 years in sales, I was offered a job in York, NE, as a teacher of history and geography and an assistant varsity football and track coach. &nbsp;I became the York school counselor in the fall of 1964. &nbsp;I was then asked to come to Kearney to interview for a position with the newly established Educational Service Unit. &nbsp;I was hired specifically to develop an elementary school guidance and counseling program. &nbsp;After developing the counseling program, I was employed by ESU 10 to be their special education director. &nbsp;At the end of the first year, our administrator decided to retire. &nbsp;I decided I would pursue my doctorate in school administration. &nbsp;I began my service as administrator of ESU 10 in 1971 and then received my doctorate in 1973. &nbsp;I retired on June 30, 1988. &nbsp;I thoroughly enjoyed my chosen profession and my responsibilities at the ESU 10. &nbsp;

I am so proud of our family. &nbsp;I consider all of my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to be very good looking. &nbsp;I guess if you want to have beautiful offspring, you should always marry a smart, beautiful girl. &nbsp;I think I did that.”

Louis lived a long, engaging life, leaving behind an empire of love within his family: his daughter, Barbara Uhrmacher; son, Robert (Darla) Hansen; grandchildren, Shannon (Brian) Rotert, Andrew Uhrmacher, Britnee (Nolan) Cormier, Lauran Hansen, and Louis Dane Hansen; great grandchildren, Drew and Maddyn Rotert, Archer Uhrmacher; sister, Joan (Richard) Nelson; brother-in-law, James Hufman; many nieces, nephews, and other family.

Those that Louis joined upon his passing are his beautiful wife, Marian; son, William “Bill”; son in law, Darrel; parents; brothers, Virgil and Gene; sisters, Shirley, Lucille, Margery, Delores; parents-in-law, Lewis and Virginia; sister-in-law, Nancy.

Dr. Louis L Hansen (1926-2024)

It is shared by the family with sorrow that Tina Tyan left us peacefully on August 29, 2024, at Linden Court in North Platte at the Age of 58. &nbsp;

Tina Delores Tyan was born on August 10, 1966, in Sutherland, NE, to Edward and Cleo (Slater) Tyan. &nbsp;

At a young age, Tina lost both of her parents and took on the selfless responsibility of caretaking for her younger siblings. &nbsp;After attending North Platte Public Schools, Tina went on to complete some college and then began working as a self-employed interior painter. &nbsp;She brought two sons into the world: Joshua and Chandler. &nbsp;She was so proud of her boys.&nbsp;

Tina was known to be stubborn but incredibly strong and was always the “mom” to those around her. &nbsp;She loved to read, garden and scrapbook in her spare time. Tina was no stranger to anyone and loved to visit and talk. If you know Tina, you know that she had a story for everything.&nbsp;

Survivors of Tina include her son, Chandler (Danin) Tyan of Edmonds, WA; siblings, Camie (Matthew) Cox of Wauneta, Tim (Tracy) Tyan of Wallace, and Dusty Tyan of Godley, TX; a close niece, Heather (Mitch) Pappas of Godley, TX; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family. Tina is also survived by many friends that she considered to be family.&nbsp;

Those that preceded her in death are her parents; son, Joshua; and brother, Corky.

Tina D Tyan (1966-2024)

Misty Kay McDaniel was born on February 12, 1971, in O’Neill, Nebraska to Connie and Curtis Hood. Later in life, Misty gained a stepmother, Alisha, when Curtis remarried in 1986. The family then moved to Ogallala, where Misty attended school.

&nbsp;Misty and Kevin Davison welcomed a baby girl (Katie) into their lives on November 19th of 1995.&nbsp; It brought her so much joy and happiness to become a mother.

&nbsp;Misty worked at Hoke’s Café as a waitress for many years and later managed the kitchen at the bowling alley in Ogallala. She enjoyed fishing, and cheering on the Huskers, and she almost always solved the Wheel of Fortune puzzles before anyone else.

Later in life, Misty met Rhett Morlang and was able to find true happiness and friendship, although the two would frequently battle each other over rounds of Yahtzee. Misty had recently been able to take a camping trip and use a friend's fifth wheel, which she referred to as “glamping” because all she had known growing up and as an adult was roughing it in the tent, no matter how bad of a storm there was at Lake McConaughy.

Misty was a dear friend and mother-like figure to many, and she will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Katie Davison; Sister, Tina Graham and her daughters Jenette and Paulette, and brother Curtis Hood, half-sister Kendra Schlem (Randy) and their children Logan, Joshua, Kenian, and Heather, half-sister Brandy Rowe and her son Zachary, stepmother for many years, Alisha Siebenthal, aunts Tammi Parker, Mary Skinner, Cathy Casey and her children Ralphy and Darla, best friends Donna Crain and Lori Roberts, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, four-legged companion Buddy, and a grand puppy, Moose.

Preceding her in life, her saving grace and best friend, Rhett Morlang, her father Curtis Eugene Hood Sr, niece Kristina Hood, uncles Charles Skinner and Ralph Casey Sr, and faithful companions Zeus and Titus.

Misty McDaniel (1971-2024)

Edward Allen Oberg, a dedicated farmer and rancher, passed away on August 31, 2024 on his farm, in Farnam, Nebraska. Born on April 20, 1947,&nbsp; Ed's life was marked by a strong commitment to God, his family, community, and land he cherished.

A proud alumnus of Farnam High School, Ed graduated in 1965 before furthering his education at McPherson College, where he earned an Associate’s degree in Business and attended Bethany Nazarene College, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business. On June 18, 1971 he married Laura Wilson.

Throughout his life, Ed was an active member of his church and community. He was a member of the Farnam Nazarene Church and participated in various organizations, including the American Legion, VFW, the local school board, and the Co-op Board. Ed was also a member of the Lions Club, where he contributed positively to community initiatives. His passion for vintage machinery was evident, as he had a special affinity for old tractors.

Ed honorably served his country in the Army, stationed in Baumholder, Germany, for two and a half years and was recognized with a Quilt of Valor, an honor bestowed upon veterans who have exhibited service and sacrifice.

Ed's legacy is sustained by his loving family, which includes his wife, Laura Oberg, and his children: son, Michael (Holli) Oberg of Farnam, Nebraska, and daughter, Sara (CJ) Pfannenstiel of Rush Center, Kansas. He is also survived by three brothers, Roger (Nancy), of Farnam, Dick (Karen) Oberg of Axtell, Nebraska, Jeff (Dynette) Oberg of Farnam, Nebraska, and along with his sister, Louise Jones of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister-in-law Barb Oberg, of Kearney, brothers-in-law, Roger Wilson, of Gothenburg, Gene Wilson, of Newkirk, OK; and Jerry Wilson, and six grandchildren whom he adored, Skyler and Ethan Oberg, Denton, Easton, Paisley and Casen Pfannenstiel.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruby Oberg; his brother, Don Oberg; and several brothers-in-law, including Dave Jones, Dean Wilson, and Gary Wilson, nephew, Chad Oberg, nieces, Allison Oberg, and Amber Wilson.

Visitation will be held on September 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, Nebraska, with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Funeral service will take Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 10:30 AM, Farnam Church of the Nazarene, 401 Antelope, Farnam, NE with Pastor Cliff Transmeier and Dynette Oberg officiating.

Burial will follow at the Farnam Cemetery.

Ed Oberg’s absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. His contributions to his family and community serve as a testament to a life well-lived, and he will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched.

Edward Allen Oberg (1947-2024)

Marilyn Mae Carlson, 95, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 1, 2024 at Gothenburg Health in Gothenburg.&nbsp;

Marilyn Mae was born September 29, 1928 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of C.Oscar and Charlotte (Ohlson) Nelson.

&nbsp;She was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church.

The first three grades were at the Tallin School, Custer County. In 1937 the family moved to Gothenburg. Marilyn entered elementary school graduating with the Class of 1946.

On March 5, 1947 Marilyn and Herbert G. Carlson were married at her parents' home. Stanley Allen was born August 18, 1948.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Madeline June Carlson of Gothenburg, NE; several close friends and extended family and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by parents C.Oscar Nelson, and Charlotte Nelson, husband, Herbert Gustaf Carlson, son, Stanley Allen Carlson.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, September 6, 2024, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

Services will be held at Gothenburg Cemetery, September 6, 2024 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating.&nbsp;

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.&nbsp;

Marilyn Carlson (1928-2024)

Sharon J. Neal, 86, lifelong resident of North Platte, NE passed on to her heavenly home on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Linden Court. &nbsp;Sharon was born on December 5, 1937 in North Platte the daughter of Albert Earl and Zelma (Detty) Sexton.

She married Robert A. Neal on July 9, 1962 in CO. Sharon worked alongside her&nbsp;husband as a secretary at Mid-America Dairymen. She and her husband were long-time members of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed visiting the sick and&nbsp;homebound alongside her husband as a Deacon, as well as driving older folks to church. Sharon liked to crochet, cross stitch, solve crossword puzzles, and play pitch. She especially enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Zelma; husband, Robert; brothers, Harold, Robert, and Robertson Sexton.

Those left to cherish Sharon’s memory are her children, Paul L. Payton (Cheryl) of&nbsp;Big Springs, Rhonda Drake (Cameron) of Denver, Mary Szwanek (David) of North Platte, and Leonard Neal (Nemayian) of Aurora; grandchildren, Summer Woodward, Babette Hepperly, Wayne Payton, Leroy Peyton, Rhonda Smith, Lisa Domingus, Alex Domingus, Jr., Fran Cobbs, Jennifer Kelly, Courtnie Braggs, Heather Ogans, and Sam Muthiora; 27 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sister in law, Irene Sexton.

Sharon J Neal (1937-2024)

Joni (Davenport) Claymon, age 62, passed away on August 26, 2024, in Lincoln, NE. Joni was born on October 31, 1961, to James and Sherry (Hircock) Davenport in North Platte, NE. She was a 1980 graduate of Arnold High School where she enjoyed playing volleyball, basketball, and running track.&nbsp;

She lived and worked on the family farm from the time she was born until she was 18 years old. One of Joni’s favorite things growing up was taking care of her horse, Roni. She worked hard to buy Roni all on her own. She enjoyed showing her at 4-H shows and riding her around the farm.

She then attended Kearney State College and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business. After college, Joni moved to Denver and met Mike, and they started their family. Joni and her husband Mike had two sons, Andrew and Brian. Over the years, there were many different pets in the family that she loved dearly including Hank, Jade, Captain, and Glo.

Joni started her own accounting and tax services business that she built up over the years. She loved taking care of her clients and created many lifelong friendships through her work. She retained many of her clients when she moved to Lincoln.

Joni absolutely loved fishing, especially with her dad Jim. When Andrew was born, he also shared their love of fishing, so she had her lifelong fishing partner. They would spend weeks at Merritt Reservoir fishing every summer and even went on a trip to Canada to fish once.

Watching her sons play sports was one of the greatest joys of her life. She also made every effort she could to watch her nieces' and nephew’s sports as well. She loved supporting them and getting to watch them learn and grow. She also loved having them over individually to her house for a weekend full of fun activities just the two of them. Joni made recordings of her reading different children’s books and sent them to her great nieces and nephews for them to listen to and enjoy.

She cared deeply about everyone and never forgot a birthday or anniversary. So much so that she even reminded family members of their own anniversaries.

She frequently attended Nebraska women’s volleyball games with her dad, sister Jacque, and special friend Joyce. When she couldn’t attend the games, she enjoyed providing others with the opportunity to go instead.

In memory and honor of her son Andrew, Joni put on the Andrew Claymon Memorial Fishing Tournament almost every year since 2011. Through this, she was able to put smiles on countless children’s faces throughout the years and helped many families create memories to last a lifetime.

Joni was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sherry Davenport; her grandparents, Darrel and Freda (Bowers) Hircock, Orville and Mary Davenport, and grandmother Lola (Bean) Davenport; son Andrew Claymon, brothers Jimmy and Michael Davenport, and sister JoDee Kimball.

Left to cherish the memories she gave us are her son, Brian Claymon; her siblings, Julie (Randy) Bailar; Jeani Davenport, Dan Davenport, Jennifer (Jeff) Drey, and Jacque (Ryan) Porter; Aunts Marlene Flodman, Lavilla Estabrooks, and Deanna Morgan as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

 </figure>Joni (Davenport) Claymon, age 62, passed away on August 26, 2024, in Lincoln, NE. Joni was born on October 31, 1961, to James and Sherry (Hircock) Davenport in North Platte, NE. She was a 1980 graduate of Arnold High School where she enjoyed playing volleyball, basketball, and running track.&nbsp;She lived and worked on the family farm from the time she was born until she was 18 years old. One of Joni’s favorite things growing up was taking care of her horse, Roni. She worked hard to buy Roni all on her own. She enjoyed showing her at 4-H shows and riding her around the farm.She then attended Kearney State College and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business. After college, Joni moved to Denver and met Mike, and they started their family. Joni and her husband Mike had two sons, Andrew and Brian. Over the years, there were many different pets in the family that she loved dearly including Hank, Jade, Captain, and Glo.Joni started her own accounting and tax services business that she built up over the years. She loved taking care of her clients and created many lifelong friendships through her work. She retained many of her clients when she moved to Lincoln.Joni absolutely loved fishing, especially with her dad Jim. When Andrew was born, he also shared their love of fishing, so she had her lifelong fishing partner. They would spend weeks at Merritt Reservoir fishing every summer and even went on a trip to Canada to fish once.Watching her sons play sports was one of the greatest joys of her life. She also made every effort she could to watch her nieces' and nephew’s sports as well. She loved supporting them and getting to watch them learn and grow. She also loved having them over individually to her house for a weekend full of fun activities just the two of them. Joni made recordings of her reading different children’s books and sent them to her great nieces and nephews for them to listen to and enjoy.She cared deeply about everyone and never forgot a birthday or anniversary. So much so that she even reminded family members of their own anniversaries.She frequently attended Nebraska women’s volleyball games with her dad, sister Jacque, and special friend Joyce. When she couldn’t attend the games, she enjoyed providing others with the opportunity to go instead.In memory and honor of her son Andrew, Joni put on the Andrew Claymon Memorial Fishing Tournament almost every year since 2011. Joni Claymon (1961-2024)

Bonnie J. Bonczynski, 84, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born September 9, 1939, the only child to Leslie L. and Mattie (Dudden) Jay in Denver, Colorado. Bonnie attended schools in Western Nebraska and graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1957.

Bonnie was united in marriage to Leonard F. Bonczynski on December 28, 1957 in Bridgeport, Nebraska. After 62 years of marriage, Leonard preceded Bonnie in death in 2019. Following their marriage, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they both attended school and then moved to Chino, California. Bonnie was active in horse shows and saddle clubs while in California. They moved to Lexington in 1968 and were owners of Len’s Liquor for 37 years before retiring in 2005.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington.

Bonnie is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leonard.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating.

Inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway following the meal at the church.

James “Jim” &nbsp;Aufrecht was born &nbsp;on April 11, 1944 in Denver CO, his parents were John and Nina (Slabaugh) Aufrecht. Jim passed away at Great Plains Health on August 27, 2024, at the age of 80.

Growing up, Jim lived in Cozad until his sophomore year of high school when he then transferred to North Platte High School and graduated with the class of 1963. &nbsp;In 1964, Jim married Cheri Miller at the Baptist Church in North Platte; the couple would have three sons together: Troy, Ron, and Curt. After graduating high school, Jim attended Parks Business School where he received a degree in computer programming and also worked as a photographer for Governor Love in Denver. &nbsp;In 1967, the couple moved to North Platte and Jim began a 40-year career at Brown-Harano Studio. &nbsp;He also worked briefly for Murphy Tractor and then at Carhart Lumber, where he never officially quit working but was instead, simply “taking some time off”.

Jim was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in North Platte, spending several years serving on the church board. Jim was also a member of the Eagles, and was a past member of Kiwanis. He also spent many years as a scout leader. &nbsp;Jim was mostly known for his photography, taking thousands of wedding, senior, and school photos throughout Nebraska. &nbsp;Jim was also able to serve as an Honorary photographer for President Ronald Reagan when he visited North Platte. He never failed to remember a name and made connections with multiple generations of many families. &nbsp;Jim loved to work on cars, and was an expert at fixing anything. Jim was a clock and oil lamp collector, often finding his next collection piece at one of the many auctions he attended. &nbsp;He was always ornery, always pushing buttons, but was always loyal, especially to his grandkids whom he loved to take on long drives. &nbsp;

Survivors of Jim include his wife, Cheri Aufrecht of North Platte; sons and their spouses, Troy (Barbara) Aufrecht of Colombia, MO, Ron (Deann) Aufrecht of McCook, Curt (Christy) Aufrecht of North Platte; grandkids, Jessi (Matt), Kaylie (Rob), Kirt, Jayde (Jeff), Maddie, Brendan (fiancé - Avory), Kaylee, Brogan, Brayden, Isaac (Emmely), Bryce; great grandkids, Freya and Isaac; siblings, Dave (Carmen) Aufrecht of Kearney, Karen Ward of Cozad, Steve (Jill) Archer, Sharon (Bill) Ladd, Karen (Kevin) Archer; many nieces, nephews, and other family.

James "Jim" N Aufrecht (1944-2024)

Peg Peterson-Keller was born May 10, 1933, in Corsica, South Dakota, to William A. and Myrtle (Thompson) Bos. Peg passed away on August 26, 2024.

Peg spent the first ten years of life in South Dakota, then LeMars, Iowa for a period of 2-3 years. At the age of 13, she and the family moved to Minden, NE. Peg graduated from Minden High School and attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. She was a graduate of the American Medical Record Association School for Medical Record Technicians (Correspondence), thereby earning accreditation as a Medical Record Technician.

She married Homer Macklin in May of 1953. The couple were divorced. On December 27, 1958, she married George R. Peterson. George and Peg spent their entire married life in Broken Bow, Nebraska, raising two sons, Scott and Brad, and one daughter, Tracey. George passed away in February of 2005.

While in Minden, Peg worked as a bank teller, and later worked as a legal secretary in Minden, Kearney, and Broken Bow. She worked as the Director of Medical Records and Quality Assurance Coordinator at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center for 25 years, retiring in 1995. During this time, she was an active member of the Nebraska Medical Record Association and the American Medical Record Association, and held several regional and state offices, including serving as a delegate for the National Medical Record Association at their Annual Convention in Atlanta, GA. In 1994, Peg was honored by the Nebraska Medical Record Association when she received the Distinguished Member Award at their Annual Meeting.

On August 7, 2005, Peg married Neal Keller. Neal and Peg lived in Broken Bow where they enjoyed their time together with family and friends, as well as some travel. Neal passed away in December of 2007.

Peg enjoyed bridge and golf. She also enjoyed walking, reading, entertaining, and loved spending time with family and friends.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church all her life, serving on various committees and boards. She also enjoyed meeting weekly for several years with her Bible Study Groups.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, George and Neal, and her brothers Jerry and Don.

Peg is survived by her sons Scott of Omaha, NE, Brad of Auburn, AL., daughter Tracey Johnson of Denver, CO, former daughter-in-law Debra Peterson of Omaha, NE, daughter-in-law Tracy Richard of Auburn, AL, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Bertilson of Superior, WI, six nieces, two nephews, three step-granddaughters, and many special friends.

Peg Keller (1933-2024)

Eugene A. Schwarz, 79, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 16, 2024, at his home as the result of a house fire.

He was born on June 6th, 1945, to Frank and Dorothy (Woodside) Schwarz of Smithfield, Nebraska. “Gene” was the ninth child of ten born to Frank and Dorothy. When Gene was young the family moved to Lexington. Gene graduated from St. Anns High School in 1963 and completed his education at the Grand Island School of Business. On August 14th, 1965, Gene was united in marriage to Virginia “Ginny” Carbaugh at the St. Anns Catholic Church in Lexington. The couple had five children, Paul, Kim, Jeff, Becky and Bradley. The couple would later divorce.&nbsp;

Gene managed his own accounting business with his brother Keith for several years, then went to work for his brothers Raymond, Mike and Kenny at Schwarz Brothers Construction and Masonry. For several years Gene played the drums in the band Mel Uphoff and the Country Lads with his brothers, Keith and Kenny. After construction, Gene went to work at the First National Bank of Elm Creek, managing the insurance agency. He moved his family from Overton to Elm Creek. In 1984 he began his own insurance agency in Elm Creek and later that year moved his family back to Lexington. He then went to work for Carey Masonry in Ft. Collins, Colorado and moved his family there. During his later years, Gene maintained his accounting business and worked odd jobs including security in the Ft. Collins area. On January 5th, 1996, Gene was united in marriage to Nancy Whitaker in Ft. Collins and lovingly accepted her two children, Lindsay and Matthew, into his life.&nbsp;

Gene enjoyed following his children’s many sporting events and was a huge fan and supporter of the Elm Creek Buffalos while they lived there. He was also a member of the Elm Creek Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. Gene also served on the Elm Creek Village Board for several years. When the family moved back to Lexington, he did his best to follow his children’s sporting events and transitioned into a big Minuteman fan for his children. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed traveling back to Nebraska to watch bull ridings and rodeos. He was always asking for pictures and videos of different bulls and his favorite was a bull named Pappy. He joked that the bull was named after him. Gene was known for his huge smile, his pranks and his joke telling. His large, wonderful laugh and strong bear hugs will truly be missed.&nbsp;

Gene was proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Schwarz, wife Nancy, his in-laws James and Wanda Carbaugh, brothers Harry, Carl, Robert, Raymond and Keith and sister Alice Wenburg. Sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Lucy, Helen, Darlene, Sandra, and Shelby. Brother-in-law Floyd Wenburg.&nbsp;

Gene is survived by his sons, Paul (Billie) Schwarz, Jeff Schwarz, and Bradley Schwarz and daughters Kim Ellis and Becky Titus, his stepchildren Lindsay (Preston) Peterson and Matthew (Heather) Grippen. His brothers Mike Schwarz and Kenny (Shirley) Schwarz sister Martha (Wally) Hubbard, sisters-in-law Judi and Cindy. Grandchildren Zachary (Stacey) Schwarz, Anastacia (Omar) Moreno, Jeffrey Schwarz, RJ (Amary) Ellis, Sadie (Jordan) Ley, Cody (Bridget) Ellis, Nina Titus, Levi Ellis, Sayde Titus, Fiona Titus, Caleb (Kaylee) Schwarz, Raylinn Ellis, Isabelle Schwarz, and Gunnar Titus. Step Grandchildren Valerie (Robert) Carmody, Melissa (Aaron) Galvan, Vanessa (Zachary) Larimore, Chianne Rodriguez, and Clay (Courteney) Trejo and 23 great grandchildren, and numerous beloved nephews and nieces.&nbsp;

He was always asking for pictures and videos of different bulls and his favorite was a bull named Pappy. He joked that the bull was named after him. Gene was known for his huge smile, his pranks and his joke telling. His large, wonderful laugh and strong bear hugs will truly be missed.&nbsp;Gene was proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Schwarz, wife Nancy, his in-laws James and Wanda Carbaugh, brothers Harry, Carl, Robert, Raymond and Keith and sister Alice Wenburg. Sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Lucy, Helen, Darlene, Sandra, and Shelby. Brother-in-law Floyd Wenburg.&nbsp;Gene is survived by his sons, Paul (Billie) Schwarz, Jeff Schwarz, and Bradley Schwarz and daughters Kim Ellis and Becky Titus, his stepchildren Lindsay (Preston) Peterson and Matthew (Heather) Grippen. His brothers Mike Schwarz and Kenny (Shirley) Schwarz sister Martha (Wally) Hubbard, sisters-in-law Judi and Cindy. Eugene A. Schwarz (1945-2024)

Ralph Dunaway, 54, of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney.

He was born on September 26, 1969, in Walnut Grove, California to Richard "Dick" and Florence "Judy" (French) Dunaway. Ralph attended public school in California and graduated from Galt High School in Galt, California. He made a living driving cross country for multiple trucking companies and would always make a stop in Snyder, Nebraska to visit his sweetheart, Teresa. The two were united in marriage in 2018 in Lexington, Nebraska, but they had shared 20 wonderful years by each other's side before then. The couple made their home in Cozad in 2008.

In Ralph's younger years, he was an avid Star Wars fan and collected each of the action figures, which he still has displayed in his home to this day. In his early years, you could always find him at a skate park or riding around town on his skateboard. That was up until he turned 16, then you could hear him coming from a mile away, blasting his favorite '80s music in his pride and joy at the time, a green "slug bug". He enjoyed playing video games on his computer and watching the Raiders play. Ralph was known to make a mean steak dinner, and if he saw a recipe on tv, he knew he could make it better and Teresa was happy to test out his recipes. During the summers, the couple would ride around town on their fat tire scooters and enjoy the breeze.

Those left to honor his memory is his beloved wife, Teresa Dunaway of Cozad; daughter, Samantha Grant; sisters, Terri (Bruce) Wilkerson of Scribner, Nebraska and Sandra (Chris) Wardman of North Bend, Nebraska; in-laws, Pam (Ron) Stryker of Eddyville, Linda (Bob) Kroon of Longmont, Colorado, and Charles Moore of Grand Island, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Michael Koenig, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Ralph Dunaway (1969-2024)

&nbsp;On Saturday morning August 17, 2024, during Betty’s last days of her stay in the Perkins County Hospital, Elizabeth Joyce (Fhuere) Frederick, age 89 a resident of Imperial, NE, took up her citizenship in heaven and is now seated in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3).&nbsp;

&nbsp;Betty was born November 19, 1934 in North Platte, NE to Louis S. and Thelma R. (Wells) Fhuere. Betty was the second child and only daughter in her family of five children. Betty lived her childhood in North Platte and then on November 25, 1951 Betty was united in marriage to John A. Frederick of North Platte. The newlyweds made their first home in North Platte. While living there God gave them three daughters: Rogene Katherine, Frances (Fran) Elizabeth, and Jacqueline Patricia. The family then moved to Papillion, NE where God gave them a son, Stewart Paul Nelson and later a foster daughter Heidi Jo.

&nbsp;Betty was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker, active in raising her children. Betty was a master working with needle and thread. Betty made the majority of the families clothing and taught her daughter to be thread artists also. Betty enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet, various types of embroidery and quilting.

&nbsp;Bey realized because she was a sinner she was separated from God and her good deeds could not please God enough to outweigh her sin. The earnings of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Betty also learned that Jesus the Perfect Lamb of God shed His blood on the cross in payment for and the forgiveness of her sin. Betty put her trust in this truth of forgiveness. One of Betty’s favorite Bible verses is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."&nbsp;

&nbsp;One of Betty’s favorite activities was being a part of the ministry of The Gideon's International. For 48 years Betty was a member of the Auxiliary. Betty was a prayer warrior and zealous about distributing scriptures and telling people how they too could know the forgiveness she received from God.

&nbsp;In January of 1975, Jack and Betty moved to Grant, NE where Jack and Betty purchased a motel and trailer park, then the Dairy Queen in Ogallala, NE, raised ostriches and eventually retired in Imperial, NE. Betty was a caring, loving, praying, and giving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Her family has been greatly blessed by her influence and love.

&nbsp;Preceding her in death are her parents, Louis and Thelma; father and mother in-law, John and Margaret Frederick; brothers: Alison and wife, Ann; Orville and wife Verlaine; David, and brothers and sisters in-law: Lawrence Frederick and wife, Ernita; Douglas Frederick; James Frederick and wife, Helen; Ruth Luree Swedberg and husband, Melvin; Jack Stone.

&nbsp;Survivors include Betty’s husband: John; brother, Thomas Cheney and wife, Sandy; sisters in-law: Marilyn Cheney, Marianne Frederick and Gloria Stone; children: Rogene Margritz; Francis and husband, Glenn; Jacqueline and husband, Tim; Stewart and wife, Gayleen; Heidi Roberts and husband, Steve; Scott and Nichole Welsh, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

&nbsp;The celebration of Betty taking up her full citizenship in heaven will be held at the Imperial Berean Church in Imperial, NE Saturday morning at 11:00am MDT September 21, 2024.&nbsp;

Elizabeth Frederick (1934-2024)

Owen Max Foster, age 15, of Big Springs, NE passed on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO as a result of a tragic auto accident on May 18, 2024. Owen was born March 15, 2009, at Julesburg, CO to Kendall and Jennifer (Loomis) Foster.

He attended South Platte Schools and had just finished his Freshman year of high school. While he hated the schoolwork, he loved the social aspect and being around teachers and friends. In school, Owen was involved in football, basketball, track, Knight vision and FFA.

Owen enjoyed spending his Wednesday evenings at the Assembly of God church learning God’s word while participating in the Royal Rangers Youth group. He also attended pow-wows at Lexington where his teams often won the obstacle course race.

He was also highly involved in the Pride of the Plains 4-H Club and loved showing his animals. He has taken many static projects over the seven years he was enrolled in 4-H. He has shown lambs, goats, pigs and beef at fairs. The beef had become his favorites and he had set a goal to win a buckle with a steer out of his own herd.&nbsp; He was also involved with the South Platte Shooters 4-H Trap Team and participated in many trap shoots including the Cornhusker State Trap Shoot at Doniphan. He was also a member of the Deuel County Shooters where he participated in hunting skills, BB gun, air rifle, pistol and archery.

Outside of his busy schedule, he loved to ride motorcycles and four wheelers, go hunting and fishing with friends and family, welding, working on his pickup, riding horses and raising his own cattle. He had a profound love of music and could always be found listening to it. Mostly, Owen loved spending time talking to people, friends, family, and anyone that would take interest in his stories.

Owen is survived by his parents, Kendall and Jen Foster, brother Kris Kopetzky and fiancé Megan Orth, grandparents Greg and Deb Foster and Diana Loomis, great-grandmother Mary Krems, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Raymond Loomis, great grandparents Max Krems, Evelyn and Charles Foster, Samuel and Maude Loomis and Elmer and Helen Mundt.

A Celebration of Life will be held, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. in South Platte High School Auditorium with Pastor Todd Lanman officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery in Big Springs, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established in Owen’s name.

Owen, your kind heart, ornery smirk, big smiles, contagious laugh, and those beautiful blue eyes will forever be missed by all.
