Jan&nbsp;George, wife of the late Ken George, passed away September 20, 2024, at age 90. &nbsp;

Jan, the daughter of Elmer and Marguerite Swanson, was born November 8, 1933.&nbsp; She grew up in Omaha where she graduated from Benson High School and later attended nursing school.&nbsp; Jan graduated from Immanuel Nursing School as a Registered Nurse and then worked at Children's Hospital in Omaha.

On September 11, 1954, Jan married Kenneth George in Omaha. &nbsp;The couple lived in Omaha for several years until Ken was transferred to North Platte in 1969 with his job at Northwestern Bell. They had three sons and were married for 63 years when Ken passed away.

Jan loved her family, her pet and companion, Tiffi, and she enjoyed being around people. &nbsp;She participated in many activities at the Senior Center and was involved with Compassionate Friends, PEO, Shrine Auxiliary and the Quilters Guild. &nbsp;She was also employed by North Platte Public Schools and worked in the reading program and media center.

Jan was a woman of faith and a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for Christians of 3 for 25 years and was a member of Ruth Circle. &nbsp;In later years she attended First Presbyterian Church. &nbsp;

Along with her husband, Ken, she was preceded in death by their son, Tim; her parents; brother, Warren Swanson and wife, Marilyn; sister-in-law, Nancy Lewis; and her beloved Tiffi.

Jan is survived by her sons, Steven George of Lakewood, CO, and Gary George (Jim Cox) of Omaha; nieces, Debbie Long (Hal) and Jamie Alley (Mike) and nephew, Russell Swanson (Tammy) and their families; and her cousins Miriam Sward and Elaine Spady (Steve) and family.

Services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. &nbsp;Burial is 1 p.m. in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation is Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and with family present from 4-6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel. &nbsp;In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the North Platte Senior Center. &nbsp;Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. &nbsp;Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

&nbsp; Jeremy Hayden Hartley (Khéya Wichása), the son of Lonnie and Patricia Hartley, was born May 2, 1972.&nbsp; He passed away unexpectedly at Great Plains Health on September 17, 2024, at the age of 52.

Jeremy was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and grew up in North Platte. After high school, he moved to Illinois for a while then returned home and married Kimberly Rudd.&nbsp; They made their home in North Platte and had a daughter, Araya, whom Jeremy raised.&nbsp; The couple later divorced.

Jeremy loved learning new things and was a man of God.&nbsp; He became a member of the Lakota Tribe where he was known as "Turtle Man" and later, studied Hebrew.&nbsp; Jeremy was a volunteer and member of the Hebrew Torah Center in North Platte.&nbsp; He not only studied religion, he practiced his faith and was always kind and helpful to others and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Jeremy Hartley (1972-2024)

On September 19, 2024, Taylor Fecht peacefully passed away at home in North Platte with her family at her side. &nbsp;She was 39 years old.

Taylor, the daughter of Brian and Stephanie Dorr, was born August 19, 1985, in North Platte where she grew up. &nbsp;She graduated from Hershey High School in 2003 then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. &nbsp;Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene then worked as a hygienist for 17 years at Maple Park Dental and Apex Dentistry.&nbsp;

On October 9, 2010, Taylor married Braxton Fecht. &nbsp;They settled in North Platte and welcomed two sons, Henley and Declan. &nbsp;She loved her time with her family and attending the boys' activities brought her great joy.

Taylor was a member of Maria Lutheran Church in Hershey. &nbsp;She was a woman of faith and enjoyed volunteering in different ways at church. &nbsp;In her free time she liked to read and paint with water colors and she loved listening to music and dancing with her boys. &nbsp;Taylor is gone too soon but leaves us with memories that we'll always treasure.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James Ziebell and Duane and Lorraine Dorr.

Taylor leaves behind her loving husband, Braxton, sons, Henley and Declan, and her parents, Brian and Stephanie Dorr, all of North Platte; her siblings, Marguerite Gallegos (Aaron) of Hayes Center, Turner Dorr (Bridgett) of Hershey and Marshall Dorr (Jaydn) of Kearney; her grandmother, Carol Ziebell of Cozad; parents-in-law, Tim Fecht of Gothenburg and Charlene Fecht of Tampa, FL; other family and numerous rowdy crazies that loved her!

Taylor Fecht (1985-2024)

Robert Keith Brennan, known to many as "Bob," was born on November 5, 1951, in Brush, Colorado to John and Anna Mae (Randall) Brennan. Bob passed away on September 17, 2024, in Kearney, Nebraska. Bob's journey was one of relentless dedication and a passion for fishing and hunting that many will remember fondly.

From his formative years in Stratton, where he graduated from Stratton High School in 1970, Bob developed a character molded by hard work and traditional values. In his earlier days, he embraced the rugged life of truck driving and construction. Bob later lent his work ethic to Midlands Construction, though the call of the open road eventually led him back to owning his truck.

Life for Bob was not only about work; it thrived in the richness of familial bonds and friendships. His beloved wife, Linda Rains, whom he met in high school and the two were later married at St. Joseph Catholic Church on March 11, 1972. Linda stood by him as a partner in every sense of the word. Together they nurtured a family that filled their lives with abundant love and laughter. Bob cherished every moment spent with his children, creating lasting memories that will linger in the hearts of the entire family.

Bob's passions were woven deeply into the fabric of his life. He found joy in the wilderness, hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to share his knowledge and love for nature. His heart soared with pride as he watched his grandchildren grow and shared with him the love of hunting and fishing. As a devoted leader in 4-H, he focused on shooting sports, guiding young minds into the beauty of the great outdoors and securing a sense of safety when it came to handling firearms. His commitment to the community didn’t stop there; he was actively involved in the Stratton Boy Scouts and served dutifully as Chief of the Stratton Volunteer Fire Department for several years, embodying the spirit of service that so many admired.

He had a special bond with his horse, Jack, and his favorite dog, A.J., companions that accompanied him through life's ups and downs. Bob's personality shone brightly with a sense of humor that endeared him to many. His laughter will echo in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him, a reminder of the warmth he brought into their lives.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda; his daughters, Jody (Adam) Parsons and Laci (Tommy) Glatfelter; his son, Clint (Dana); grandchildren, Caleb, Corey, Samantha, Emma, Parker, Ella, Hudson, and Huntley; brothers, Buck, Paul and Frank; and his sisters, Carol Hanes and Mary Brennan. Robert Keith Brennan (1951-2024)

Larry “Chip” Lee Richards, of Hayes Center, NE, passed away surrounded by family on September 17, 2024, at the age of 62, in Grand Island, NE.

Chip was born to parents Laryl L. and Mary Ann (Soncksen) Richards on July 3, 1962. He grew up in Hayes Center with his four sisters on the family farm.

Chip married Starla Messersmith on June 4, 1984, in Oberlin, KS. To this union four children were born. In addition to his lifelong endeavor with farming and ranching, Chip also spent time trucking. He served as a board member for the local COOP and as a deacon in his church. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church throughout his life where he also taught Sunday School. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate Chip’s life are his wife of 40 years, Starla Richards, of Hayes Center, NE; his children, Kip (Andrea) Richards of Hayes Center, NE, Buck (Heather) Richards of Wellfleet, NE, Tanner (Skylar) Hill of Mason City, NE and Weston (Derek) Crawford of Baldwin City, KS; grandchildren, Keenan, Hayley, and Sadie Richards, Ryder, Tucker, and River Richards, and MaryAnn and Chloe Hill; as well as sisters, Marilyn (Jimmie) Howard, Cynthia (Merle) Dake, Theresa (Don) Wymore and JoLynne (Mike) Ruppert; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Larry "Chip" Lee Richards (1962-2024)

&nbsp; Dr. Bernard G. Mullen, “Bernie”, 87, passed peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was born December 14, 1936 in Wewela, South Dakota to George and Margaret (Gierau) Mullen. Bernie had three sisters. Bernie’s family moved to Bloomfield when he was in high school. He worked at the family store, Mullen Market and was active in high school sports. He also would sometimes chaperone his older sisters at dances. Dancing was a life long passion of Bernie’s.

&nbsp; &nbsp; After Bernie graduated from Bloomfield High school, he attended Creighton University and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. On the dance floor in Memphis is where he met his future wife, Nona.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernard graduated with a Doctor of Optometry in 1959. Dr. Mullen completed his Army basic training after graduation and moved to McCook, Nebraska where he started practicing Optometry at McCook Eye Clinic. Bernie was called back to the service and was then honorably discharged from active duty in 1961 after serving at Fort Carson, Colorado. He returned to the Army reserve for the completion of his military obligation.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie convinced his southern sweetheart to move to McCook and Bernie and Nona were married Sept. 29, 1960. They had two children, Brenda and John.

Bernie was a lifetime member of the American Optometric Association. He served as President of the Nebraska organization and was Nebraska Optometrist of the year. He worked with the legislature to pass a bill that enabled optometrists to prescribe eye medications to their patients. He also started a lab, called Delta Enterprises with two other area optometrists. He was active in the National organization, attending conventions, conferences and keeping up on the changes in the field. Dr. Mullen retired from optometry after 43 years in 2002.

&nbsp; &nbsp; In addition to serving the community of McCook as an eye doctor, Bernie was active in his church, and community. He was in Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree and helped work fundraising booths at the church and county fair. He was active in Toastmasters, Kiwanis, the Elks club, the YMCA and on the boards of the golf course, community hospital and the YMCA. He and his buddies were regulars in the stands for McCook High school and College football and basketball.

Bernie was an avid golfer. He enjoyed working out at the Y, skiing in Colorado, dancing with his wife and friends. Bernie and Nona initiated, in memory of their son, The John Mullen Memorial Pro-Am which supported the Community Hospital. The family made the decision to retire the name after 30 years. The tournament is still in existence having recently changed to a one day format.

&nbsp; &nbsp; After 43 years in McCook, Bernie and Nona retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. There they enjoyed an active retirement for over 20 years. Bernie golfed almost daily and walked miles a day. He was again active in the community in the computer club, men’s club at church and he and Nona went dancing as often as they could. They enjoyed traveling to see family and friends and spent their winters in South Padre, Texas, walking on the beach and dancing.

Bernie moved to Lincoln, May 2023, after the sudden passing of his wife, Nona. He still enjoyed live music and dancing, walking outside and at the mall. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, long drives, especially around Holmes Lake and the local golf courses. He also enjoyed attending high school football games again with his daughter.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was a true gentleman and always insisted on opening doors for others and having them walk in front of him. He was kind, helpful and quick with a smile. In his younger days he was the perfect host and he and Nona loved to entertain and open their home to friends and family. Even his last year, he enjoyed hosting duties at his daughter’s home. Bernie was always there to help push a friend’s wheelchair and make sure he danced with everyone in the group and do whatever needed to be done. He didn’t walk through his day, he danced.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret; his son, John; his wife, Nona and his sister Martha Peters.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie is survived by his daughter, Brenda Mullen and granddaughter, Kerstin Mullen-Bagby, both of Lincoln; his grandson, Brandon Mullen-Bagby (Melissa Lee) of Silverton, OR and his great-granddaughter Ruby Lee of Silverton, OR. He is also survived by his sisters, Bernadette “Bernie” Skrivan and Marcella Bohart-Wills and brothers-in-law, Bill Skrivan and Jess Wills as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends near and far. We are all better people for having spent time with Bernie, he was always positive and inspirational and will be missed by all who knew him.

Mullen, “Bernie”, 87, passed peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie was born December 14, 1936 in Wewela, South Dakota to George and Margaret (Gierau) Mullen. Bernie had three sisters. Bernie’s family moved to Bloomfield when he was in high school. He worked at the family store, Mullen Market and was active in high school sports. He also would sometimes chaperone his older sisters at dances. Dancing was a life long passion of Bernie’s.&nbsp; &nbsp; After Bernie graduated from Bloomfield High school, he attended Creighton University and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. On the dance floor in Memphis is where he met his future wife, Nona.&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernard graduated with a Doctor of Optometry in 1959. Dr. Mullen completed his Army basic training after graduation and moved to McCook, Nebraska where he started practicing Optometry at McCook Eye Clinic. Bernie was called back to the service and was then honorably discharged from active duty in 1961 after serving at Fort Carson, Colorado. He returned to the Army reserve for the completion of his military obligation.&nbsp; &nbsp; Bernie convinced his southern sweetheart to move to McCook and Bernie and Nona were married Sept. 29, 1960. They had two children, Brenda and John.Bernie was a lifetime member of the American Optometric Association. He served as President of the Nebraska organization and was Nebraska Optometrist of the year. He worked with the legislature to pass a bill that enabled optometrists to prescribe eye medications to their patients. He also started a lab, called Delta Enterprises with two other area optometrists. He was active in the National organization, attending conventions, conferences and keeping up on the changes in the field. Dr. Mullen retired from optometry after 43 years in 2002.&nbsp; &nbsp; In addition to serving the community of McCook as an eye doctor, Bernie was active in his church, and community. He was in Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree and helped work fundraising booths at the church and county fair. Dr. Bernard "Bernie" Mullen (1936-2024)

Carolyn K. (Cotton) Anthony, 85, passed away on September 18, 2024 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. &nbsp;Services will be held 10:00 am Monday, September 23 at First United Methodist Church in North Platte. &nbsp;Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Adams Swanson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery, Tryon, Nebraska, following the service.

Carolyn was born on August 12, 1939 in Alliance, NE to John Robert Cotton and Ora Juanita “Jack” (Bandy) Cotton. &nbsp;She graduated from McPherson County High School in 1956. &nbsp;She was united in marriage to Otis F. Anthony on May 28, 1956 in Julesburg, CO. &nbsp;They made their home in North Platte where Carolyn worked for O’Connor Department Store and then at McDonald State Bank for 18 years. &nbsp;In 1979, she and Otis moved to Angora, NE where she took a job with the Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance. &nbsp;She served as secretary to the division superintendent for 21 years before retiring. &nbsp;The couple returned to North Platte and remained there until Carolyn moved to Kearney in February 2022. &nbsp;She lived at Brookestone Gardens Senior Living Center until her death.

Family was the most important thing to Carolyn. Throughout her life, she treasured the time spent with siblings, children, grandchildren and all her extended family. &nbsp;She enjoyed cooking big family dinners and gatherings of any kind, especially when they involved a chocolate dessert!

She is survived by her children, Kimra (Mark) Schipporeit of Kearney, Mark (Ranee) Anthony of Alliance, grandchildren Jenna Tapia, Brett Schipporeit, Amanda (Jake) Keating, Cody (Katie) Anthony, Morgan (Christopher) Anthony, great grandchildren Robert, Ellie, Skylar, Kenley, Kiya, Jayla and Letti; sister Reva Coulter of Florida, sister-in-law Lois Cotton of Stapleton and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, brother Robert Cotton, brother-in-law William Coulter and her niece Leanna.

Gordon Gerald “Jerry” McIntosh, 89, of North Platte, NE died September 16, 2024 at Great Plains Health.

Jerry was born on March 14, 1935 in Grand Island, NE to Reuben and Mildred McIntosh. He attended Grand Island schools in his early years and North Platte High School when his father was transferred with Union Pacific Railroad. Jerry graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1953. He married his high school sweetheart, Dona Walsh, in 1953, and to this union 4 children were born.

Jerry worked as a clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years, was a member of TCU for 43 years and served as local chairman for 19 years. He was also a member of the Eagles Club #2839.

Jerry and Dona enjoyed fishing, driving on country roads, casinos and evenings on the patio.

He is survived by his children, Chris (Punky) Poff of LaCenter, WA, Robert (JoEllen) McIntosh of North Platte, and Kim Sorrells of North Platte; 10&nbsp; grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dona; daughter, Ranelle and grandson, Mike.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation was chosen.

Gordon Gerald "Jerry" McIntosh (1935-2024)

&nbsp; Ruth ‘LaVonne’ Hudson, age 90, died peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Walnut Creek, CA. She was born on July 14, 1934, in Spearman, TX. LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Marta Lucille Hudson, brothers Butch Baker [Irene], Phillip Baker [Diana], and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Russell Baker, mother, Ruth Lucille Baker [Tevebaugh], husband, Donald Byron Hudson, son, Nicholas Byron Hudson, an infant son, and brother, Don Russell Baker [Barbara].

LaVonne graduated from high school in Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1953. After graduation, she attended secretarial school in Denver, CO. On December 29, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald B. Hudson, at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells. As a devoted wife and partner, LaVonne supported Don during veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO by working as a receptionist for an ophthalmologist and cashier at Safeway. After graduation in 1960 Don and LaVonne purchased a veterinary practice [Twin Forks Clinic] in Benkelman, NE, and started their family. LaVonne fielded after hours veterinary calls to Don on the Motorola Radio and shuffled Marta and Nick to 4H Horse Shows, while actively serving the community. In 1977 Don and LaVonne sold the veterinary practice and moved to North Platte, NE, where Don accepted a position as UNL Extension Research Veterinarian.

LaVonne was a classy lady, devoted homemaker, mother, and community member. She was an active member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, Nebraska Cattlewomen, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, Extension Club, Winter Dance Club, North Platte Senior Center, and PEO. When Don pursued his passion for steer roping, LaVonne traveled with him across the country to the PRCA Senior Steer roping events. Reflecting on his cheerleader wife, Don once said that “LaVonne could have fun in a dirt storm”. &nbsp;As a side note, Don had to take ballroom dancing lessons in exchange for steer roping. When Don retired, LaVonne took great pride in the refurbishment of the century old house at Clearview Ranch in Benkelman. On the ranch, there was always a place for cowboys to congregate in LaVonne’s kitchen for a homecooked meal, laughter, conversation, and a pitch card game [which she won]. LaVonne enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing, and entertaining. Her love and compassion for her kittens, Corgi dogs, and Marta’s cow herd were a source of joy in recent years. Throughout her life, she was an avid rodeo fan. She was loved by all who met her and encouraged others always to have a positive attitude.

Ruth "LaVonne" Hudson (1934-2024)

Linda Beth (Hughes) Cox was born in Elwood, NE on August 29, 1942, to Francis Hughes and Dorothy Reynolds Hughes, the oldest of 5 children. Her pharmacist father moved the family to Arnold, NE when he opened the Hughes Drug Store in 1947. Linda graduated from Arnold High School in 1960 as valedictorian. She played volleyball and participated in many school activities. She also worked at the soda fountain at the family drug store and sold tickets at her grandfather Reynold's movie theater.

After high school, she enrolled in nurses training at Clarkston College. She married J Richard Giles in 1963 and moved to his family ranch north of Mullen. This union resulted in 3 children: Mallory, Michael, and Joan. She later divorced in 1977 and moved to Mullen, where she worked at the Mullen Hospital as a nurse's aide and went on the ambulance as an EMT with Lloyd Ginkens as a driver since it was his Chevy station wagon. She went back to school at Mid Plains and received her LPN license. With the LPN degree, she and Joan moved to Mitchell, SD where she was then able to complete her RN degree within 1 year.

&nbsp;Returning to Mullen, she married Marvin Cox on May 29, 1981, at Hastings Methodist Church where her uncle was pastor at the time. She began working for the Sand Hills Community Health Care Agency where she would provide immunizations and health screenings in a 4-county area for over 15 years. This was her most favorite nursing position. She and Marvin lived on the Cox Ranch northwest of Mullen till they moved to town in 2003. She loved gardening, flowers, and the Sandhills. Learning to be a Rancher's wife was a thrill as she enjoyed cooking for the hay crew and even helping Marvin with C-sections on cows during Easter dinners. As a nurse, she could stitch up the cow pretty good! After funding reductions to the SDHD, she helped establish the Oakwood Assisted Living facility in Valentine and then worked at the Sutherland rest home till she retired.

&nbsp;Linda loved her family very much and enjoyed big family dinners at the holidays. She loved to cook and always made sure there was plenty of food, many items directly from her garden. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life, and she always wanted to know what they were doing. You can guarantee she always had a cookie or two in the jar for when they stopped by. She also always made sure the grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a Christmas ornament from Grandma &amp; Grandpa every year.

&nbsp;Once retired, Linda and Marvin tried to travel a bit each year and went to trapshooting contests in Arizona and Nevada in winter, and during the summer to contests in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota, but in early 2019 she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which is a degenerative disease with no known cure. She continued her active life as long as she could but finally had to enter the Linden Court Care Facility in April 2023.

&nbsp;She passed away on August 26, 2024, with her family close by.  </figure>Linda Beth (Hughes) Cox was born in Elwood, NE on August 29, 1942, to Francis Hughes and Dorothy Reynolds Hughes, the oldest of 5 children. Her pharmacist father moved the family to Arnold, NE when he opened the Hughes Drug Store in 1947. Linda graduated from Arnold High School in 1960 as valedictorian. She played volleyball and participated in many school activities. She also worked at the soda fountain at the family drug store and sold tickets at her grandfather Reynold's movie theater.After high school, she enrolled in nurses training at Clarkston College. She married J Richard Giles in 1963 and moved to his family ranch north of Mullen. This union resulted in 3 children: Mallory, Michael, and Joan. She later divorced in 1977 and moved to Mullen, where she worked at the Mullen Hospital as a nurse's aide and went on the ambulance as an EMT with Lloyd Ginkens as a driver since it was his Chevy station wagon. She went back to school at Mid Plains and received her LPN license. With the LPN degree, she and Joan moved to Mitchell, SD where she was then able to complete her RN degree within 1 year.&nbsp;Returning to Mullen, she married Marvin Cox on May 29, 1981, at Hastings Methodist Church where her uncle was pastor at the time. She began working for the Sand Hills Community Health Care Agency where she would provide immunizations and health screenings in a 4-county area for over 15 years. This was her most favorite nursing position. She and Marvin lived on the Cox Ranch northwest of Mullen till they moved to town in 2003. She loved gardening, flowers, and the Sandhills. Learning to be a Rancher's wife was a thrill as she enjoyed cooking for the hay crew and even helping Marvin with C-sections on cows during Easter dinners. As a nurse, she could stitch up the cow pretty good! After funding reductions to the SDHD, she helped establish the Oakwood Assisted Living facility in Valentine and then worked at the Sutherland rest home till she retired.&nbsp;Linda loved her family very much and enjoyed big family dinners at the holidays. She loved to cook and always made sure there was plenty of food, many items directly from her garden. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life, and she always wanted to know what they were doing. You can guarantee she always had a cookie or two in the jar for when they stopped by. She also always made sure the grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a Christmas ornament from Grandma &amp; Grandpa every year.&nbsp;Once retired, Linda and Marvin tried to travel a bit each year and went to trapshooting contests in Arizona and Nevada in winter, and during the summer to contests in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota, but in early 2019 she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which is a degenerative disease with no known cure. She continued her active life as long as she could but finally had to enter the Linden Court Care Facility in April 2023.&nbsp;She passed away on August 26, 2024, with her family close by. Linda Beth Cox (1942-2024)

Roger Nice, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, died August 28, 2024 at his home.

Roger was born April 21, 1941 in Alliance, NE, to Aaron and Eleanor (Stroy) Nice.

Aaron, Eleanor, his brother DeLane and Roger moved shortly after to Broken Bow, Nebraska, where Roger attended Broken Bow schools and graduated in 1959.

After high school he worked doing electronics repair, and also obtained a private pilot's license. In 1964 he married Charlene K. Golden and together they had a daughter, Sheila Marie, in 1965.

He enlisted in the army in 1968 and was sent to Vietnam in 1970-1972. When he returned to Nebraska, Charlene and Roger parted ways and he moved to Fayetteville, NC. In 1973 he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. During his military service he was deployed to Germany for a short time and then returned to Ft. Bragg, where he volunteered in 1978 to go to Ft. Bliss for paratrooper training before returning to Ft. Bragg to finish his military career, where he retired with an honorable discharge. During his army career he received the Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Pro. Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachute Badge, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After his army career he started driving truck for a few different companies before starting his own business, Nice Transport. He drove for himself until his health stopped him from doing so at age 78. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with electronics, home repair, flying, motorcycles, boating, gardening. Roger resided at his home until he passed away on August 28, 2024.

Survivors include daughter, Sheila Marie (Kevin) Brown of Curtis, NE; four grandchildren, Joel (Melynda) Linden, and their children Kenna, Caleb, Kameryn, Cicely (Ben Gitzen), Higginbotham, and their children, Garrett, Maddison, Christopher, Logan Brown, and his children Renesmae, Jaxon, Evangeline Brown, Rylie Jo Henderson.

Roger was preceded in death by parents, Aaron and Eleanor Nice, his brother, DeLane Nice, nephew, Terry Nice.

Graveside Services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm.&nbsp;

Donald Dean Chartier was born December 25th, 1931, in Yuma County Colorado to Frank and Bertha Chartier and he passed away in Globe, Arizona while visiting family September 6th 2024. &nbsp;Donald served in the Army during the Korean conflict and since was a member of the American Legion. In 1956 he went to Voc-Tech school in Milford to be a watchmaker. He also drove a truck for many years with CF and had never been in an accident and was a member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters.

 Donald moved to North Platte Nebraska and started his own business called Windbroom in 1981, which was a parking lot cleaning, marking and stripping business. He was very proud of his business working until he was 89 and still wore his Windbroom hat all the time even after retiring. Donald was involved with 4-H and the Lincoln County Fair, he would donate funds for awards, ribbons, and belt buckles and never missed a fair. He also volunteered time and donated funds to the hospital in North Platte, you can find his name on one of the benches there. 

Donald loved driving trucks, cooking, baking, and canning. One of the things that Donald treasured was his Rodeo Belt Buckle that he won for bull riding when he was a young man. He also had over 75 clocks running in his house that he bought broken and fixed as a hobby, his beloved watch that he wore he would hand wind every day. 

He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Phyllis Lowe of Crete, NE., Shirley Trembly of Globe, Az., and Dallas Chartier of Benkelman NE. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and eight other siblings, he will be laid to rest beside his mother Bertha in Wray, Colorado at his request.

 There will be a grave side service on September 25th, 2024 at Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado at 2pm.

Don Chartier (1931-2024)

Pamela “Pam” Sue Glodowski, a loving mother, wife, and dedicated guidance counselor passed away in Gothenburg Hospital on September 15, 2024.

Born on July 15, 1960 in Gothenburg, Nebraska, Pam lived her life through the love of family and friends.

As a young girl, she was a dedicated member of a farming family. The youngest child and only girl in a family of boys, "Susie" as her father, Keith, affectionately called her, quickly learned to be rough and tumble but still kept her tender heart. Her love for the land and livestock was highlighted by horseback rides with her brothers and cooking with her mother. Pam was inseparable from her mother and best friend, Lea. They enjoyed countless hours of conversation while walking or working together.&nbsp;

She attended Orafino, NE elementary until 2nd grade, where after she attended school at Farnam, NE until she graduated in 1978. After graduation, she attended Kearney State College in Kearney, NE majoring in business for two years until transferring to NCTA in Curtis, NE in 1980 where she received a degree in Horticulture.

Her love found a match when she met Jim while attending in Spring 1981. The two’s love flourished and they were married on September 10, 1983. Always wanting to be a mother, Pam was excited to gift Jim with their first boy, Kelsey in the spring of 1984. Her motherly tradition continued with two more boys with the birth of Logan in Summer 1989, and Lucas in Spring 1993.

Throughout her years of motherhood, Pam continued to pursue her love of knowledge. She became a guidance counselor at Farnam School in 1992. She earned her Masters degree at the University of Nebraska Kearney in School Counseling in 1996. Pam continued to work at Eustis-Farnam as a counselor until becoming the Middle-School Counselor at Gothenburg Public School in 2009.

Her years in the school system were marked with a positive attitude, laughter, and mindful wisdom, influencing students throughout the years with their warm interactions. Pam inspired a positive spontaneity. Whether through a funny prank, or a well intended scare, it always resulted in hugs and laughter. Pam always encouraged individuals to live life to the fullest every day.

Pam was an avid gardener. Her summers were spent tending to her garden and utilizing the garden produce to cook wonderful meals for her family. She had a great love for the outdoors; whether going for her daily walks, or catching catfish at the Medicine Creek, Pam had a deep-seated connection to the land.

In Spring of 2024, Pam was diagnosed with cancer. Pam, not to be one to give up easily, took on the battle with all her spirit and faith in Christ. She maintained a positive attitude in the face of fear and refused to be broken. During this time, she retired from Gothenburg Public School to be home with her family, always the strongest love of her life. Throughout the year, her family created wonderful memories and beautiful moments with her.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Jim Glodowski, and their sons: Kelsey and his wife Jessica Glodowski of McCook; Logan Glodowski of Kearney and Lucas Glodowski of Farnam; very special grandson Audie Glodowski of McCook; her brothers Mike and his wife Beth Messersmith of Gothenburg and Pat and his wife Sandra Messersmith of Maywood; sister-in-law Teresa Messersmith of Gothenburg; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as friends and former students. Her legacy is carried on in the form of memories, positive attitudes, and a powerful love of life.

Pam is preceded in death by her parents Keith and Leora (Knoll) Messersmith, and her oldest brother, Garold Messersmith.

Pam’s absence will be felt by all whom she touched with her positive energy and love. Her commitment to family, friendship, and community will always serve as a beautiful example of a life lived to the fullest, creating a legacy that will always be remembered by all whom she touched.

Visitation will be held, Friday, September 20, 2024 1:00-7:00 pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Services will be held, Saturday, September 21, 2024, 2:00 pm at Farnam Methodist Church, with Pastor Elmo Hermann officiating.&nbsp;

Interment will follow in the Farnam Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Farnam Fire Department or to the family for a scholarship to be established in Pam's memory.

Pam Glodowski (1960-2024)

Timothy Patrick McGuire, 67, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home in Lexington.

He was born on January 7, 1957, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Jack and Josephine (Kain) McGuire. He attended Lexington Public Schools and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1975. On August 20, 1977, Tim was united in marriage to Christine Nelson. To this union, Amanda was born. Their marriage would later end in divorce. Tim would find love again and was united in marriage to Lynee Hardesty at the Chapel of the Lake in Johnson Lake. Tim held many careers including working for the Lexington Alfalfa Hay Mill, Sperry New Holland and Tyson Foods where he worked as a supervisor for over 18 years before retiring in 2009.

Tim believed that he only needed five things in his life to be happy: his family, his dogs, good food, the College World Series, and playing pool. He took great joy in spending time with his family and keeping up with his children and grandchildren's activities. Tim was an animal lover who never spent much time without a dog in his life, giving extra love to his two dogs, Lucky and Luna. He liked working with his hands and often spent many hours working on different types of projects in his home as well as welding or going outside for some clay shooting.&nbsp;

He was also known to be an exceptional cook. He enjoyed smoking and grilling and was given the nickname "Chef Boyardee" thanks to his famous spaghetti recipe. Tim was a big sports fanatic, who loved watching Husker Football and even played in local bowling leagues, but his favorite had to be the College World Series. He dedicated over 30 years watching with his friends and his wife. Tim was partial to many things in life, but his biggest passion was playing pool. He was a phenomenal player who competed and won many singles, doubles, and masters games at the National APA playoffs in Las Vegas as well as playing in the TAP league, coming in 2nd while playing in Charleston, South Carolina.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Lynee McGuire of Lexington; daughter, Amanda (Arturo) Zamudio of Lexington; stepdaughter, Tracy (Todd) Naylor of Lexington; stepson, Troy (Lincey) McDonald of Orleans, Nebraska; stepdaughter-in-law, Christina McDonald of Juniata, Nebraska; grandchildren, Daven Naylor, Daylen Naylor, Dawson McDonald-Anderson, Quinton McDonald-Anderson, Andrew Zamudio, Anthony Zamudio, Aspyn Zamudio, Jayce McDonald, Parker McDonald, Calliegh McDonald, Ansliegh McDonald, and foster grandchild, Elsa Flores-Raymundo; brothers, John McGuire of Omaha, and William McGuire of Lincoln, as well as extended family and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his stepson, Phillip McDonald, and ex-wife, Christine Mueller.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Burial will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Lexington.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda Kay Wurm was born on January 29, 1945 in Wilsonville, Nebraska, the only child of Gerald Wayne and Alpha Lee (Bailey) Oliver. Ronda attended school in Red Willow County and graduated from McCook High School.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda was united in marriage to the love of her life, George Wurm, in Denver, Colorado on June 2, 1966. Ronda and George made McCook, Nebraska home where they raised their four daughters and enjoyed 57 blessed years of marriage.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. She was an avid reader and above all will be remembered as a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda passed away on Monday morning, September 16, 2024 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 79 years of age.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Alpha Lee Oliver; grandparents, Orrin and Loretta Bailey; husband, George Wurm; and grandsons, Shannon Pierce and Clayton Pierson.

Ronda Kay Wurm (1945-2024)

Sister Shirley Ann Simmons, OSU, 99, died in the 82nd year of her religious life on June 9, 2024, at Nazareth Home-Clifton. A native of Heartwell, Nebraska, she graduated from St. Patrick High School, in North Platte, where she was taught by the Ursulines, then received a scholarship to attend Ursuline College in Louisville. She entered the Ursulines in 1942 at age 17.

Sister Shirley Ann began her 55-year ministry as a teacher in Louisville at St. Boniface parish school in 1944, then later taught at Our Lady of Lourdes parish school and served as principal of St. Elizabeth parish school. She also taught in Cumberland, Maryland and in Omaha and North Platte, Nebraska. She served as principal at three schools in Nebraska: St. Patrick Elementary in Sidney; Blessed Sacrament School in Omaha; and St. Luke School in Ogallala from 1975 until her retirement in 1999. She then served in parish ministry in St. Luke parish until she returned to Louisville in 2012. She volunteered at United Crescent Hill Ministries and in the Ursuline Sisters' archives for several years.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from the former Ursuline College (now Bellarmine University) in Louisville, and a master of arts degree in education from Creighton University, Omaha.

Sister Shirley Ann is the daughter of the late Niles and Ella Porterfield Simmons. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Joe Dodson; brother John "Jack" Simmons; and brother and sister-in-law Niles Simmons and Joan Cohen. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as her community of Ursuline Sisters and Associates.

Donald Dean Goad, age 81 of Gothenburg, Nebraska died Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Gothenburg Health in Gothenburg, Nebraska.&nbsp;

“Dean” was born on June 4, 1943 in Wallace, Nebraska the 11th of 12 children to Archie and Marie (Tesar) Goad. He graduated from Wallace High School with the class of 1960. Dean and Linda married in Wellfleet, NE on November 28, 1964. In 1967 they moved to Gothenburg and together, began what would become 55+ years of business in fuel, auto and tire service and cattle production in Gothenburg.

He is survived by his wife Linda (Cooper) Goad, daughter Kimberly Goad of Gothenburg, son Ross (Cynthia) Goad of Gothenburg, three grand children Alexandra Goad, Michael (Shilo) Goad, and Jonathan Goad, two great-grand children, Kaiser &amp; Arianna, two brothers, Ronald Goad and Warren Goad both of Salem, OR; two sisters Loretta Alberty of Bakersfield, CA and Phyllis Coppersmith of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Marie and Archie Goad, brothers Robert Goad, Joseph Goad, David Goad, Gerald Goad and infant brother Harley and sisters Eula Gibbs and Dorothy Collins.

Cynthia Anne Loving was born December 5, 1961, in Gary, IN.&nbsp; She passed away peacefully in Grand Island, NE, on September 15, 2024, as she was surrounded by family and friends. &nbsp;She was 62 years old.

Known by many as Annie, she was also known to those who loved her as giving, eccentric and one of a kind. &nbsp;She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and her beloved dog, Bella. &nbsp;Annie was also known for her creative flair, often seen crafting beautiful bracelets. &nbsp;A fan of WWE wrestling, Walker Texas Ranger and Dr. Quinn, she enjoyed watching her shows during the evenings. You could also find Annie jamming out to her favorite R&amp;B music, she had a very eclectic taste in music, hobbies and everything she did. &nbsp;Her commitment to her friendships was profound, always ready to lend a helping hand or couch whenever needed.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, George Sr. and Ruth; and siblings George Jr. and Johnnie Loving and Bonnie Murphy.

Arlene Franzen, 90, of Broken Bow passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

&nbsp;Arlene was born on June 29, 1934, in Valley County to Hans Andrew and Cora Anne (Greenland) Schmidt. She grew up and received her education in Arcadia and graduated from high school there. Arlene was united in marriage to Richard Franzen on May 31, 1952, and to this union five children were born: Penny, Frank, Peggy, Randy and Patty. The couple made their home in the Broken Bow, North Loup/Scotia and Arcadia areas until moving to Broken Bow in April of 1965. She began her long career at B.D. in 1965 until retiring in 1997.

&nbsp;Arlene enjoyed reading, card games, attending grandchildren’s activities and baking for her family.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She was a member of the United Methodist Church, D.O.E.S. and V.F.W. Auxiliary in Broken Bow.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Arlene is survived by her children, Randy (Dian) Franzen of Broken Bow and Patty (Marc) Harpham of McCook; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Al Schmidt along with many nieces and nephews.

Arlene Franzen (1934-2024)

Lanny Emanuel Weverka, 86, of Sargent, Nebraska peacefully passed away Friday, September 13th at home, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

&nbsp;Lanny and his wife, Janie, began their journey in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where they owned and operated Ski View Lodge. They later moved to Denver, where Lanny worked as a supervisor for General Finance. His career took them to Oklahoma City before they returned to Sargent to raise their family.

&nbsp;Lanny had many passions throughout his life. He cherished his beautiful wife of 61 years, reveled in polka music, and enjoyed breeding quarter horses. He loved long family trips to Branson, Missouri, playing the accordion, and rodeoing with his son. He loved sports and was a devoted fan of any activity his grandchildren were involved in. Lanny always enjoyed a good drink with friends and a competitive card game of 99 with his family. His cattle, which he always promised he would purchase for “one more year”, held a special place in his heart. Above all, his family was his greatest joy.

Above all, his family was his greatest joy.&nbsp;Lanny is survived by his wife Janie, daughter Lana Anderson and husband Jim, son Mike Weverka and wife Karen, daughter Julie Vanderheiden and husband Randy, grandchildren Chelsea Beck and husband Brandon, Michaela Weverka and Andy McNeil, Emma Anderson and Raymond Forstater, Jayden Vanderheiden, Savannah Jacobsen and husband Andrew, Mitchell Anderson and Leighanne Wetta, Mya Weverka, great granddaughter Hazelle Jacobsen, nephew Jeff Hoppes, sister Vikki Hoppes and husband Joe, nephews Shawn Hoppes, brother-in-law Bruce Young and Frannie Harper and a host of family and friends.&nbsp;Lanny is preceded in death by his father Emanuel Weverka, mother Lydia and husband Leonard Shively, father and mother-in-law Omer and Maxine Johnson, sister Kay Hoppes and brother-in-law Mick Karmazin, sister-in-law Gaylene Young, and grandson Jamison “JJ” Vanderheiden.&nbsp;Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 20th, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent, Nebraska with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be at the West Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to AseraCare Hospice and West Union Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19th from 5:30-7:00 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent, with Rosary to follow at 7:00 P.M.
