Joan Elaine (Nelson) Mahnken, age 84 of Ogallala, NE passed away, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, NE.

Joan was called Jo and she always had fun telling everyone she didn’t care what she was called; “Jo, Joanne, or whatever” as she would say.

Joan was born in Lewellen, NE to Walter and Dorothy (Evans) Nelson Garner on September 13, 1940, and was very proud that she was born on Friday the 13th. In 1942 the family moved to Otis, CO where she attended school until 1955 then moved to Ogallala, NE with her mother and two brothers and attended Ogallala School. As a teenager she worked as a car hop at Tastee Snack.

Joan was baptized on April 6, 1941, and Confirmed on April 11, 1954, at the Presbyterian church in Otis, CO. She then joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE on December 28, 1961 and later transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church South of Ogallala.

On October 1, 1961, Joan married Walter Mahnken at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala, NE.

In the early 1960s, she worked as a maid at the new Holiday Inn. She was a housewife, a cook, and lunch counter manager at Variety Center for Jon and Pat Davis from 1974 to 1998 where she received the Employee of the Month Award. She also worked at Sixth Street and Sun Mart off and on for 10 years and worked at A&amp;W from 1998-2006. She lived on the farm until 1993 when she moved into Ogallala and was still active on the farm until 2023.

Joan was a Volunteer at the Senior Center and other places, she enjoyed all the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League events being an officer in local, Zone, and District, and attended District and National conventions which she thoroughly enjoyed, and loved attending Church. She had also been a member of the K&amp;P Extension Club, and Blue Bells 4-H club leader.

She enjoyed playing cards, reading, and using her computer - that was her fun time.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; her brother Martin Nelson and her grandparents.

Joan is survived by the family she loved so much; her two daughters Dianne Elaine (Les) Peterson and Sheila Marie Mahnken both of Ogallala, NE.; one brother Bill (Phyllis) Nelson of Lincoln, NE; Grandchildren Leslie Deanne Peterson of Sitka, Alaska, Robert Alan (Marta) Peterson of Hastings, NE, and Joshua Alan Shallow of Iowa. Great- Grandchildren Rory Marie Peterson, Blake Le Ann Peterson, and Alexis Shallow; several nieces and nephews, Rebecca (Dan) Padilla, Vicki Lierhammer, Greg (Laura) Nelson, Eric (Gina) Nelson, Sean (Ashley) Nelson, and great nephews and nieces, and many more family and friends which she enjoyed.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 P.M at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel of Ogallala.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Jon Dickmander officiating.

Internment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory.

Joan Mahnken (1940-2024)

Damian J. Rangel, former Cozad resident, passed away July 24, 2024 in York, Nebraska at the age of 61. Damian was born on September 1, 1962 to Sixto and Lupe Rangel. He was the second youngest of 18 children, spanning three generations.

Damian lived in Cozad, Nebraska. He was a successful athlete at a young age, competing as a Junior Olympian in swimming, as well as being a three-sport athlete in high school. He graduated high school as a multi-letter athlete in football, basketball and track. He received several offers to swim and play basketball in college. Damian took a scholarship to play basketball at Columbus Jr. College in Columbus, Nebraska. After one year he decided to join the Navy. He spent his boot camp in Chicago. He trained as a Hospital Corpsman, and was stationed at Balboa Hospital, and then placed at Camp Pendleton where he played for the Navy Softball team.&nbsp;

Damian was married to his high school sweetheart Kathy Etherton in December of 1984. They moved to San Diego / Oceanside, California where they eventually welcomed their eldest daughter Molly in September of 1988.&nbsp;

The Family eventually moved back to Nebraska where they lived in Lincoln. Damian worked in a chiropractic office and then as a guard at the Lincoln Lancaster Jail. Damian last worked for Union Bank &amp; Trust, he was always so thankful for how they treated him as an employee.&nbsp;

The family continued to grow, and in August of 1992, Amelia was born, then his son Bailey was born in February of 1995.

Damian loved to attend church. He and his family attended Eastridge Presbyterian Church for over a decade. He and Kathy served as youth group sponsors for years.&nbsp;

He was most passionate about coaching basketball. Damian was one of the main organizers of the South Lincoln Swish basketball program. Coaching was undoubtedly one of Damian’s greatest gifts. He understood basketball and was able to inspire athletes to become the best version of themselves in the game.&nbsp;

Damian is survived by his children; Molly Rangel, Amelia Baker (Aaron), and Bailey Rangel; his grandchildren, Quinnley Baker, Presley Baker and Maveryk Baker; siblings, Ysidro Rangel, Jessie Young, Virginia Newman (Mike), Sally Curtice (Steve), Sarah Rangel, Mary Dishman (Terry) and Simon Rangel (Deb); along with many nieces and nephews for whom Damian loved to brag about and support; and his players and coaches for whom he would say “Who are we, one…two…three….SWISH!”&nbsp;

Damian Joseph Rangel (1962-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jean Kirkus was born on February 25, 1932 in Kimball, Nebraska to Lee and Dorthy (Dean) Bradt. Jean attended school in Kimball, graduating from Kimball High School with the class of 1950. She went on to attend and graduate from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jean was united in marriage to Eldo N. Kirkus on June 27, 1954 in Bushnell, Nebraska. They settled in their first home at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Illinois. From 1957-1960 the couple called Omaha, Nebraska their home. They also called Milford, Nebraska home from 1960-1962 and lived Culbertson, Nebraska from 1962-1977. Jean has called McCook, Nebraska home since 1977, making many lifelong friendships and connections.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jean was a member of the McCook Methodist Church. She loved to travel, hoping to travel to all fifty states, she visited forty-nine. Jean attended many Bible studies. She enjoyed following politics and playing her piano and the church organ. She was a talented cook and enjoyed discovering new recipes to share with her family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jean passed away Friday evening, September 20, 2024 at the Highland Park Retirement Community in McCook. She was 92 years of age.

Jean Kirkus (1932-2024)

A quiet man has left this world of pain and turmoil for an exceedingly better one of joy and celebration. Gerald Lee Werner, born November 1, 1926, departed this earthly life on September 23, 2024, in Grant, Nebraska.

He was a man of determined conviction that anything was worth doing correctly, a man of great humor mixed with a little bit of orneriness, and a completely humble man of all things he did throughout his long life. The second-born to Henry J "Hank" and Amanda (Fuchshuber) Werner and baptized in the Christian faith in Seward, NE, the family moved to Grant, NE, when he was five years old, where he graduated from high school. Gerald served in the U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge following WWII. He returned to Grant, where he worked in the family construction business with his father and brother, Omer. Shortly thereafter, he met and married his bride of 73 years, Bernadine Anne "Bernie" Reiselman, on June 1, 1951. To this union one daughter, Shelly Ann was born to give them joy and teach them patience beyond their wildest imagination.

As a civil servant, Gerald obtained a job with the local post office, from which he retired 34 years later. Those lucky enough to have him as their carrier saw him as a true example of the motto, "Neither hail, nor rain, nor sleet, nor snow..." In his free time, he built the house that he and his wife lived in and took great pride in maintaining it. He was involved in the building of Zion Lutheran Church in Grant (the original building and each new one), and he also served as a congregational trustee for many years.

He was an avid sports enthusiast of the local and NU teams, attending all he could until he was unable. He served as bowling league secretary for both the Grant and Ogallala bowling alleys at a time when all stats were done manually. He was also a member and held various offices in the Grant Cemetery Board, Grant Golf Course Board, Nebraska Association of Rural Mail Carriers, and the local American Legion.

Gerald helped friends and family in any way he could, most likely with his carpentry skills and ingenuity of jury-rigging until the correct method of repair could be obtained.

Gerald said he never expected to outlive nearly all of his friends and family, but those of us who are still here will live on with many great memories. May he rest in peace in the Lord's House.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Bernie of Grant; daughter, Shelly (Paul) Shellabarger; 2 grandchildren, Cody (Becky) Shellabarger and Katie (Tyrone) Beasley; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Brown; sister-in-law, Fern Troy, along with many nieces and nephews.

Gerald L. Werner (1926-2024)

Todd Allen Schumer, age 54, of Wallace, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at The Birch in Sutherland.

Todd was born on March 18, 1970, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Leonard and Coleen (LaLonde) Schumer. He graduated from Wallace High School in 1988 and earned an associate's degree in Colorado Springs.

Following his education, Todd moved to Ogallala, where he worked at the Super 8 motel for nearly a decade. He later lived and worked in Denver and Grand Island, holding desk clerk positions at various motels, including the Mainstay Inn. In 2022, Todd returned to Wallace as his health declined, eventually moving to Imperial Manor and then Sutherland.

Todd was a hardworking man who was quiet by nature and preferred the background to the spotlight. Despite his soft-spoken demeanor, when Todd spoke, people listened. He enjoyed collecting Southwest-themed items and playing Bingo. Todd was also a devoted Madonna fan.

Todd was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace, where he had served many Masses, alongside his brother, as a boy.

Todd was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Schumer; grandparents, Norbert and Beatrice Schumer, and Frank and Dixie LaLonde; as well as his aunt, Loretta Weiss, and uncle, LaVern Schumer.

He graduated from Wallace High School in 1988 and earned an associate's degree in Colorado Springs.Following his education, Todd moved to Ogallala, where he worked at the Super 8 motel for nearly a decade. He later lived and worked in Denver and Grand Island, holding desk clerk positions at various motels, including the Mainstay Inn. In 2022, Todd returned to Wallace as his health declined, eventually moving to Imperial Manor and then Sutherland.Todd was a hardworking man who was quiet by nature and preferred the background to the spotlight. Despite his soft-spoken demeanor, when Todd spoke, people listened. He enjoyed collecting Southwest-themed items and playing Bingo. Todd Allen Schumer (1970-2024)

David Blaine Summers, AKA “Goose”, 60, of North Platte, passed away September 21, 2024. &nbsp;He was born February 18, 1964 in Sterling, CO to Asa “Ace” and Josephine “Jo” (Guy) Summers.

David was a father, friend, son, grandson, brother and uncle. &nbsp;He lived a fulfilling life residing in North Platte, NE for 51 years. &nbsp;David also lived other places throughout his life including Lincoln and Nebraska City, NE, Rifle and Glenwood Springs, CO.

David went to Job Corps in 1982 and graduated with a welding and culinary arts degree, following a GED and high school diploma from Chadron, NE. &nbsp;Some of David’s lifetime jobs were logging, welding, fabricator, and cooking in restaurants. &nbsp;He worked for a hunting lodge and was a camp cook out in the middle of New Castle, CO., something that he was very proud of.

David’s favorite things consisted of being in the mountains, cooking, watching movies, fishing, and the outdoors. &nbsp;He loved the outdoors so much he was considered a “mountain man”, according to him. &nbsp;He understood and connected to nature very well.

In David’s younger years, he seemed to live life on the edge and was the life of the party at times. &nbsp;He enjoyed quality alone time but also loved time with family and friends. &nbsp;One thing he loved to do was to teach people, especially young children and youth, wilderness survival tactics and techniques. &nbsp;He loved “living off the land”. &nbsp;David had many qualities about him, he was a man of many words with intelligence and lots of wisdom. &nbsp;You could say he had an old soul. &nbsp;He knew many survival skills when it came to the outdoors. &nbsp;He was passionate about nature and cooking and an excellent cook he was. &nbsp;Anybody could tell you that.

David carried his heart on his sleeve. &nbsp;If he was down on his luck and you needed help, he would spare his last $2.00 for you. &nbsp;That is the kind of heart he had and the kind of person he was. &nbsp;He was a spiritual man who believed in the Lord as well as his Native heritage. &nbsp;He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

By his side and with him until the very end, his sister, Debra Johnston; survived by two daughters, Amber M. Summers and Falon S. (fiancé Derik Shigley) Summers; four grandchildren, Adrian, Za’Riyah, Miya and Alyssa Wentland; sister, Debra (Dale Middleton) Johnston; nieces, Rachael Burke and Cynthia Johnston; best friends Jeanette and Deb that he knew for 29 years.

David "Goose" B. Summers (1964-2024)

Gaylan Wayne Janssen, 70, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 23, 2024 at Gothenburg Health surrounded by his family.

He was born November 19, 1953 in Gothenburg, NE, son of Wayne and Eileen (Gengenbach) Janssen.

Gaylan attended college in Hastings then moved to Kearney, where he worked in carpentry and construction. He then moved to Lincoln, and worked for Conklin for a period of time doing sales and product application. Following living in Lincoln he moved back to Gothenburg to run the family farm in 1980. Gaylan enjoyed all aspects of the farm and was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Gothenburg community.

Survivors include daughter, Sarah (Mark) DeNunzio of Littleton, CO, father, Wayne Janssen of Gothenburg; granddaughter, Kimsie DeNunzio; two step-grandsons, Nick (Breelle) DeNunzio, Vinny (Irma Mitchel) DeNunzio, two brothers, Gregory (Barb) Janssen of St. Paul, MN, and Kurt Janssen of Gothenburg and nephew Matt Janssen of Munich, Germany.

Gaylan was preceded in death by his mother Eileen, brother Kent and nephew John Janssen.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, September 26, 2024, 1:00-7:00 pm. with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Services will be held, 10:30 am, Friday, September 27, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.&nbsp;

Burial will follow in the American Lutheran Cemetery.

Gaylan Wayne Janssen (1953-2024)

Gary Ray Buehner, 69, passed away at his home in Cozad, Nebraska on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Gary was born on May 10, 1955 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Raymond and Norma (Hueftle) Buehner. He grew up on his family farm, 7 miles west of Eustis, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Eustis. Gary graduated from Eustis Public School in 1973. He continued his education and graduated from Kearney State College, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.

After graduation in 1977, Gary returned to Eustis, a community that he loved. He worked at Farmers State Bank, which later transitioned to First State Bank and Trust, for 32 years. He continued his career at Farmers and Merchants in Kearney, Great Western Bank in Norfolk and Holdrege, and Homestead Bank in Cozad, before retiring in 2023. Gary held many different titles in his banking career, including Branch President, Vice President, Board of Directors, Loan Officer, Senior Vice President, and Market President.

Gary was united in marriage to Laura Gronstal on June 7, 1981 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis. Gary and Laura were blessed with 3 children: Angela Marie, Christopher Sean, and Amanda Jayne. Gary was always so proud of all of them. He was such a patient, supportive, and loving father who will be deeply missed.

Gary was heavily involved in his communities and always believed in giving back. If you ever needed a community key, Gary was the man you needed to find. If you couldn’t find him in the evening, he was probably down at the Fair Grounds mowing or taking care of something there. Gary was involved in the Eustis Lions Club, Eustis Chamber of Commerce, Wurst Tag Committee, Centennial Committee, Eustis Agricultural Society Inc, (formerly known as the Fair Board) in which he was secretary-treasurer for 35 years, St. John’s Lutheran Church Council Member, Eustis/Farnam School Improvement Committee, Kearney First Lutheran Church Pastor Call Committee, Kearney Sertoma Club, Kearney Lions Club, Norfolk Rotary Club, Kearney Chamber of Commerce where he was on the Executive Board, Secretary- Treasurer, and Vice Chairman. In 2011, Gary was honored by being the Grand Marshall at the Nebraska State Fair, and he also received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award.

The number of hours that Gary volunteered in his community and church in his lifetime can never be measured. Gary had many titles throughout his volunteering and career, but his favorite title of all was Grandpa Gary! His Grandchildren that will forever miss him, the Smarties candy that he always seemed to magically have in his front pocket, and the fun they had together are Will, Evie, Lucas, Vivian, Owen, and Von.

Gary is survived by his children and their spouses; Angela and Patrick McKee of Montgomery, TX, Chris and Lindsey Buehner of Lincoln, NE, and Amanda and Andy Barner of Lincoln, NE; their mother, Laura Buehner; his mother, Norma Buehner Lauer and her husband, Roland Lauer of Cozad, NE; sisters Sharon (Roger) Bryant of Curtis and Barb (Dave) Margritz of Lexington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews that will miss their fun Uncle Gary or “Uncle Geezer” as he was fondly called.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Raymond Buehner, his brother Gerald Buehner, father and mother-in-law, Harold and Edith Gronstal, and nephews, Patrick Blake and Bryant Keller.

Gary Ray Buehner (1955-2024)

Ardyce Ann Dickey of Cozad passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe at the age of 84. Ardyce was born on January 28, 1940 in Cozad, Nebraska, to Herman and Martha (Holbein) Hansen. A proud graduate of Cozad High School, Ardyce furthered her education by attending Nebraska Wesleyan and Kearney State College. Ardyce devoted over 35 years of her life to shaping young minds as a second-grade teacher at Central Elementary. Her dedication and passion for teaching left a lasting impact on the many students she had the pleasure of guiding.

Ardyce married Gene Dickey on May 30, 1971, at her parent’s home in Cozad. Family was at the heart of Ardyce's life. She made Sunday dinners, birthday and anniversary celebrations, and holidays especially memorable for her loved ones. The greatest joys in her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her days.

Throughout her life, she remained active in her community, particularly at the Cozad United Methodist Church, where she served in various ways. Ardyce enjoyed working at the Cozad Methodist Thrift Shop, played in the bell choir, sang in the church choir, and loved working with Kids of the Kingdom.

In her personal life, Ardyce found joy in her hobbies. She had a deep love for flowers, particularly snapdragons, and spent many hours tending to her beautiful flower beds and pots. Her favorite color, yellow, was often reflected in the clothes she wore and the flowers she grew, brightening the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Ardyce also loved supporting her local teams, enjoying sports at Cozad High School, as well as cheering passionately for Nebraska football and volleyball. Additionally, Ardyce enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, cherishing the moments spent in their delightful company.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Martha Rae Wright. Ardyce is lovingly survived by her husband Gene of Cozad; daughter Stacy (Chris) Cole of Hastings, MN; grandchildren, Matt Mroczek (fiancé Bri McNelly) and Brooke Hernday and Mackenzie Cole; great grandchildren, Swaisen Mroczek, Alayna and Collin Hernday; and many other extended family and friends.

Ardyce Ann Dickey (1940-2024)

Eleanor May (Molzahn) Wagner was born May 19, 1931 to Emil and Carrie (Weiss) Molzahn. She was baptized May 20, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Nebraska by Pastor Fred A. Elze and confirmed on May 20, 1945 by Pastor Herbert J. Schulenburg also at Zion Lutheran Church. She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She attended school at rural District 23, Imperial Grade School and Chase County High School.

Eleanor married Arthur Wagner on February 5, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Walter A. Meyer. Four children blessed this union.

Eleanor taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She belonged to Fireman’s Auxiliary, Garden Club and Senior Saints.

Eleanor cleaned houses and her house was always spotless. She worked at Arnison’s clothing store and Colonial Kitchen.

She enjoyed gardening and crafting with her husband Art. She also enjoyed reading and sewing and sewed clothing for children and grandchildren. In her later years she did a lot of embroidery work.

Eleanor Passed away at Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 21, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Bertha Molzahn and Evelyn McCormick and brothers Herman Molzahn and Edward Molzahn; grandsons Jonathan Wagner and Alan Wagner; and grandson-in-law Nick Ryan.

Elze and confirmed on May 20, 1945 by Pastor Herbert J. Schulenburg also at Zion Lutheran Church. She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church.She attended school at rural District 23, Imperial Grade School and Chase County High School.Eleanor married Arthur Wagner on February 5, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Walter A. Meyer. Four children blessed this union.Eleanor taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She belonged to Fireman’s Auxiliary, Garden Club and Senior Saints.Eleanor cleaned houses and her house was always spotless. She worked at Arnison’s clothing store and Colonial Kitchen.She enjoyed gardening and crafting with her husband Art. She also enjoyed reading and sewing and sewed clothing for children and grandchildren. Eleanor May Wagner (1931-2024)

Jack Ray Bishop, age 87, of Culbertson, NE passed away in North Platte, NE on Saturday, September 21, 2024.&nbsp;

Jack was born in Hayes Center, NE on December 17, 1936, to Malissa Ellen (Bannister) and Leonard Frank Bishop. Jack attended school in Hayes Center and graduated in 1954. He also attended Emily Griffin Trade School in Denver, CO.

On January 23, 1957, Jack joined the United States Army and was Honorably discharged on Dec 31, 1962. While in the Army, Jack received the Good Conduct and Sharpshooter (Carbine) medals and was part of the 249th Engineering Combat Battalion.

Jack married Shirley Ann Wilson on November 29, 1959, in Culbertson, NE. The couple made their home in North Platte and were blessed with three children.&nbsp;

Throughout the years Jack enjoyed being a heavy equipment operator and worked for Missouri Valley Construction and Hayes County throughout the years. His favorite past times included watching football, gardening, playing the lottery and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a past member of the Messiah Baptist Church in Denver, CO.&nbsp;

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John (Rose) Bishop, daughter-in-law Eva Bishop, brother-in-law Fred Hummer.

Jack is survived by his two sons, Jeff Bishop of Oklahoma City, OK and Gregg and wife Jeanne Bishop of Hayes Center; daughter Shauna and husband David Schutz of Culbertson; as well as his five grandchildren, Jill and husband Torey Hadwiger and their children Maxon, Lincoln and Quinn of Riverdale, NE, Terra and husband Cameron Higgins and their children Kyler, Holden and Cohen of Kearney, NE, Michael and wife Taylor Bishop and son Braxton of Seward, NE, Whitney and husband Ray Ashford and their children Jayden, Riya, Aliya, and Cobyn of Atwood, KS and Brady Stock and Kristy Eder and their children Alliyah, Mason, Conner, and Jase of Culbertson, NE; two sisters Judy Hummer and Janet Lytle of McCook, NE; sister-in-law Sharon Felker of Granby, CO and brother-in-law Darwin Wilson of Palisade, NE. &nbsp; &nbsp; Scott L Porter, 52, reunited with his dad, Gary, unexpectedly on September 18, 2024. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, and coach/teammate/friend, who will be deeply missed by all.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott was born on March 25, 1972 in Hastings, NE. He graduated from Clay Center High School in 1990 and went on to play football and pursue his Bachelor’s of Science in Education at Wesleyan University. Scott met Tandi (Kramer) in Lincoln, NE in 1996 and they were united in marriage on May 23, 1998. He took his first teaching/coaching position at Silver Creek, NE in 1997, which later consolidated to Twin River. While in Silver Creek, Scott and Tandi started a family with two beautiful girls: Bailee and Shaye. In 2004, Scott and Tandi moved to Blue Hill to continue his career, where they were blessed with two more daughters: Karstyn and Bentlee. In 2015, Scott’s career led him to Cambridge, NE. Scott continued his career at Hitchcock County in 2018, where this would unknowingly be his final field. This is also where he was proud of his new role of becoming a grandpa.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Scott’s lifelong passion was sports, where he was known for his dedication to offer his guidance and support to the youth. He was a devoted dad. In his free time, he enjoyed following his girls in their activities, coaching young men and women on the field or on the court, spending time with his dear friends and family whether it be playing cornhole, going to the lake, watching football, chasing storms or just sharing stories.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Coach Porter’s greatest accomplishments started in high school where his team was the state champion in 1986. As a high school and college player he received numerous accolades. As a football coach he was a four time state finalist with two state championships with over 90% of his seasons ending in the state playoffs.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Scott is survived by his loving wife, Tandi; children: Bailee, Shaye (Keaton) Soucek, Karstyn, and Bentlee; and his granddaughter, Porter Soucek; parents, Cindy and Duane Pool of Raymond Ne; sister, Lisa (Eric) Bales of Lincoln; in-laws, Chet (Danele) Kramer of Lemoyne, Karma Kramer of Arthur, NE, Margaret Kostman of Arthur, NE, Tara (Brian) Bender of Kearney, NE, Reed (Micki) Kramer of Oshkosh, NE, and Jalen (Jesse) Snyder of Salida, CO, and numerous “favorite” nieces and nephews, aunts/uncles/cousins.

Mary was born on March 20, 1927 in North Platte, NE the daughter of Clarence and Fern (Greeley) Stearns. &nbsp;

Mary grew up and attended school in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School. &nbsp;She married Wilbur “Shorty” M. Cohn on October 13, 1946 in Oberlin, KS and together they had 5 children. &nbsp;Mary was a member of the First Christian Church, Moose Club, Eagles Club, Old Timers, RSVP, R&amp;R, and the Shriner’s Auxiliary all in North Platte. &nbsp;She and her husband Shorty did a lot of traveling and camping over the years. &nbsp;She volunteered in recent years with the Thrift Center and Great Plains Health Hospital.

She is survived by her children, Dennis Cohn of Topeka, KS, Larry (Shirley) Cohn of North Platte, Kathy (Steve) Mentzer of North Platte, and Dannie Cohn of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Wendi, Brandon, Alicia, Melissa, Tracy, Cindy, Travis “T.J.”, Jeremy, Amber, Daniel, Nicole, Ashley, and Savannah; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Claire Shields and Shirley Simpson both of Omaha; sister in laws, Jean Stearns of North Platte, and Laurel Cohn of Grand Island; daughter in law, Brenda Cohn of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane Cohn (1927-2024)

&nbsp; Regis Swanson, 72, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 18, 2024 in Kearney, Nebraska.

Regis-Heisler-Swanson was born February 25, 1952 in Mauston, WI. She was born to John and Doris Scully.

Regis attended and graduated from the Mauston area high school in 1970. She then moved to Milwaukee, WI, where she attended college for a period of time. Upon leaving Milwaukee she moved to Denver. Over the next several years she obtained her Realtor/Broker License. Regis sold Real Estate in the Denver area, a career she enjoyed because she loved people and helping them.

In 1980 she and her son Kent moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska, and purchased The Bar-W; she operated the bar for the next 10 or 12 years. During that time she made a tremendous amount of friends and became the friend of many more. Upon selling the bar she went to work for "Old West Realty". During her time with Old West Realty she had the opportunity to buy some pasture ground and began to put together her cow herd. Her cows were a great joy to her and she loved them dearly. Regis then bought and operated Gateway Realty of Gothenburg. She operated this until 2021, when she and her husband Doug retired to live on an acreage they had bought about 30 years prior west of Gothenburg.

Regis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doris Scully, her sister Karen Donavan and her brother Jack Scully.

Regis is survived by her husband Doug of Gothenburg, her son, Kent Heisler (Stacia Darling) of Gothenburg, brother, Tom (Nora) Scully, sister-in-law, Mary Anne Scully, grandson Klay Heisler, granddaughter Kynley Heisler and a life long friend Maureen Mallory of Salt Lake City, UT; also numerous nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.

Celebration Of Life will take place at a later date.

During that time she made a tremendous amount of friends and became the friend of many more. Upon selling the bar she went to work for "Old West Realty". During her time with Old West Realty she had the opportunity to buy some pasture ground and began to put together her cow herd. Her cows were a great joy to her and she loved them dearly. Regis then bought and operated Gateway Realty of Gothenburg. Regis Swanson (1952-2024)

Stanley Eugene Bonde, 84, of Kearney, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society - St. Johns in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born on January 22, 1940, in Callaway, Nebraska to Oscar and Dorothy (Sterner) Bonde. He attended school in Callaway and graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1958. After school, he entered into the Army Reserves where he spent six months on active duty. On August 3, 1962, Stanley was united in marriage to Judy Griffith and two boys were blessed to this union: Frankie and Jamie. Their marriage would later end in divorce. He spent the majority of his life living in Callaway until 2023, when he moved to Kearney.

Stanley enjoyed the simple things in life. He spent many years doing what he loved the most, farming and ranching. When it came time for him to slow down, he still managed the farm with his knowledge of market trends, cattle prices, and connections with those that rented his land. He still drove, stopped at Co-op, Peg Stryker would get him a Mountain Dew, and he would be off to check on land and cattle, and visit with farmers. In his free time, he enjoyed trips to Lake McConaughy, demo derbies, tractor pulls, and going to cattle and bull sales with his son, Frank.

Those left to honor his memory are his sons, Frank (Susie) Bonde of Kearney, and Jamie (Lori) Bonde of Callaway; grandchildren, Dylan (Kailey) Bonde, Tiana Bonde, and Ty Bonde, all of Callaway; great-grandchildren, Carson Bonde, Brooklyn Bonde, Brock Bonde, and Brianna Bonde, all of Callaway; sister, Mercedee (Rod) Clifton of Providence, Rhode Island, as well as extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Bonde, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church in Callaway, with Ken Pitkin, officiating.&nbsp;

Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway, following the service.

Stanley Eugene Bonde (1940-2024)

Leona Marie Loveless, 80, of Gothenburg, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 15, 1944, in Venango, Nebraska, to Edwin and Elnora (Suhr) Steinke. She attended school in Venango and graduated from Venango High School with the class of 1962. She transitioned to community college where she received her Associate degree in Business. On May 25, 1984, she was united in marriage to Carl William Loveless at the Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado. They made their home in Arvada before moving to Lexington, Nebraska in 1995, where she spent many years working in the loans and receivings department at the Homestead Bank before retiring. In 2014, the couple made their home in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Leona loved spending her days outdoors, working on her garden, watching her stargazer lilies bloom, and taking an evening to go fishing. If she wasn't outside, she was meticulously working away on a quilt or playing cards with her friends and family. She enjoyed spending quality time with her children but always held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, making sure they felt her love wherever they were.

Leona was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington for many years until her move to Gothenburg, where she began attending their Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a woman with an unwavering faith which helped her endure and persevere during some of the toughest moments in life. She rarely missed a Sunday service. Over the years, she assisted with teaching Sunday school, managed finances at her local church, as well as being a member of their Bell Choir.

Those left to cherish her memory is her children, Peter (Roxanna) Graham of Omaha, Veronica (Gene) Shepherd of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Patty (Ian) Stewart of Maxwell, Nebraska; grandchildren, Sarah Marie Shepherd, Josephine Nicole Stewart, Trace William Stewart, and Kort James Stewart; sisters, Eileen (Larry) Lacy of Juanita, Nebraska, and Linda (Gary) Newth of Venango, Nebraska, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Loveless.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Jeff Cottingham officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gothenburg.

Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. MDT in Venango Cemetery in Venango, Nebraska, following the service.

Carole Kay Curran, age 84, of Hayes Center, Nebraska passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in Wauneta, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Carole was born to parents Don L. and Helen (Swanson) Leffler in Palisade, Nebraska on June 16, 1940. She grew up in Hayes Center where she graduated from high school with the class of 1958.

She raised five kids while working at the Hayes Center Schools as a cook, bus driver, and secretary. Carole will be remembered for supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their events. Throughout her life, she was a member of the Hayes Center Union Congregational United Church of Christ.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate Carole’s life are her children, Dale Curran of Holbrook, NE, Cherri (Steve) Broz of Hayes Center, NE, and Janeen (Bob) Rosno of Hayes Center, NE; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.&nbsp;
