Gordon Gerald “Jerry” McIntosh, 89, of North Platte, NE died September 16, 2024 at Great Plains Health.

Jerry was born on March 14, 1935 in Grand Island, NE to Reuben and Mildred McIntosh. He attended Grand Island schools in his early years and North Platte High School when his father was transferred with Union Pacific Railroad. Jerry graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1953. He married his high school sweetheart, Dona Walsh, in 1953, and to this union 4 children were born.

Jerry worked as a clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years, was a member of TCU for 43 years and served as local chairman for 19 years. He was also a member of the Eagles Club #2839.

Jerry and Dona enjoyed fishing, driving on country roads, casinos and evenings on the patio.

He is survived by his children, Chris (Punky) Poff of LaCenter, WA, Robert (JoEllen) McIntosh of North Platte, and Kim Sorrells of North Platte; 10&nbsp; grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dona; daughter, Ranelle and grandson, Mike.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation was chosen.

&nbsp; Ruth ‘LaVonne’ Hudson, age 90, died peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Walnut Creek, CA. She was born on July 14, 1934, in Spearman, TX. LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Marta Lucille Hudson, brothers Butch Baker [Irene], Phillip Baker [Diana], and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Russell Baker, mother, Ruth Lucille Baker [Tevebaugh], husband, Donald Byron Hudson, son, Nicholas Byron Hudson, an infant son, and brother, Don Russell Baker [Barbara].

LaVonne graduated from high school in Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1953. After graduation, she attended secretarial school in Denver, CO. On December 29, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald B. Hudson, at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells. As a devoted wife and partner, LaVonne supported Don during veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO by working as a receptionist for an ophthalmologist and cashier at Safeway. After graduation in 1960 Don and LaVonne purchased a veterinary practice [Twin Forks Clinic] in Benkelman, NE, and started their family. LaVonne fielded after hours veterinary calls to Don on the Motorola Radio and shuffled Marta and Nick to 4H Horse Shows, while actively serving the community. In 1977 Don and LaVonne sold the veterinary practice and moved to North Platte, NE, where Don accepted a position as UNL Extension Research Veterinarian.

LaVonne was a classy lady, devoted homemaker, mother, and community member. She was an active member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, Nebraska Cattlewomen, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, Extension Club, Winter Dance Club, North Platte Senior Center, and PEO. When Don pursued his passion for steer roping, LaVonne traveled with him across the country to the PRCA Senior Steer roping events. Reflecting on his cheerleader wife, Don once said that “LaVonne could have fun in a dirt storm”. &nbsp;As a side note, Don had to take ballroom dancing lessons in exchange for steer roping. When Don retired, LaVonne took great pride in the refurbishment of the century old house at Clearview Ranch in Benkelman. On the ranch, there was always a place for cowboys to congregate in LaVonne’s kitchen for a homecooked meal, laughter, conversation, and a pitch card game [which she won]. LaVonne enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing, and entertaining. Her love and compassion for her kittens, Corgi dogs, and Marta’s cow herd were a source of joy in recent years. Throughout her life, she was an avid rodeo fan. She was loved by all who met her and encouraged others always to have a positive attitude.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on September 26, 2024, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM [with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM] at Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home, 421 W 4th Street, North Platte, NE. The funeral will be held on September 27, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 1600 W E Street, North Platte, NE followed by dinner. Ruth "LaVonne" Hudson (1934-2024)

Linda Beth (Hughes) Cox was born in Elwood, NE on August 29, 1942, to Francis Hughes and Dorothy Reynolds Hughes, the oldest of 5 children. Her pharmacist father moved the family to Arnold, NE when he opened the Hughes Drug Store in 1947. Linda graduated from Arnold High School in 1960 as valedictorian. She played volleyball and participated in many school activities. She also worked at the soda fountain at the family drug store and sold tickets at her grandfather Reynold's movie theater.

After high school, she enrolled in nurses training at Clarkston College. She married J Richard Giles in 1963 and moved to his family ranch north of Mullen. This union resulted in 3 children: Mallory, Michael, and Joan. She later divorced in 1977 and moved to Mullen, where she worked at the Mullen Hospital as a nurse's aide and went on the ambulance as an EMT with Lloyd Ginkens as a driver since it was his Chevy station wagon. She went back to school at Mid Plains and received her LPN license. With the LPN degree, she and Joan moved to Mitchell, SD where she was then able to complete her RN degree within 1 year.

&nbsp;Returning to Mullen, she married Marvin Cox on May 29, 1981, at Hastings Methodist Church where her uncle was pastor at the time. She began working for the Sand Hills Community Health Care Agency where she would provide immunizations and health screenings in a 4-county area for over 15 years. This was her most favorite nursing position. She and Marvin lived on the Cox Ranch northwest of Mullen till they moved to town in 2003. She loved gardening, flowers, and the Sandhills. Learning to be a Rancher's wife was a thrill as she enjoyed cooking for the hay crew and even helping Marvin with C-sections on cows during Easter dinners. As a nurse, she could stitch up the cow pretty good! After funding reductions to the SDHD, she helped establish the Oakwood Assisted Living facility in Valentine and then worked at the Sutherland rest home till she retired.

&nbsp;Linda loved her family very much and enjoyed big family dinners at the holidays. She loved to cook and always made sure there was plenty of food, many items directly from her garden. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life, and she always wanted to know what they were doing. You can guarantee she always had a cookie or two in the jar for when they stopped by. She also always made sure the grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a Christmas ornament from Grandma &amp; Grandpa every year.

&nbsp;Once retired, Linda and Marvin tried to travel a bit each year and went to trapshooting contests in Arizona and Nevada in winter, and during the summer to contests in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota, but in early 2019 she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which is a degenerative disease with no known cure. She continued her active life as long as she could but finally had to enter the Linden Court Care Facility in April 2023.

&nbsp;She passed away on August 26, 2024, with her family close by. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Marvin and their children, Mallory, Donnie (Deb), Jamie, Michael, Joan (Clay), and David as well as grandchildren Zach (Erin), Tristen, Garret, Josh(Katie), Damian, Darien (Maria), DeNae, Savanna, Nathan, Lilly, and Will, as well as 6 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister and several nephews and nieces.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Funeral services will be held on October 3, 2024, at the Mullen Methodist Church. Dinner will be provided at the church with services at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the Mullen Cemetery. Linda Beth Cox (1942-2024)

Roger Nice, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, died August 28, 2024 at his home.

Roger was born April 21, 1941 in Alliance, NE, to Aaron and Eleanor (Stroy) Nice.

Aaron, Eleanor, his brother DeLane and Roger moved shortly after to Broken Bow, Nebraska, where Roger attended Broken Bow schools and graduated in 1959.

After high school he worked doing electronics repair, and also obtained a private pilot's license. In 1964 he married Charlene K. Golden and together they had a daughter, Sheila Marie, in 1965.

He enlisted in the army in 1968 and was sent to Vietnam in 1970-1972. When he returned to Nebraska, Charlene and Roger parted ways and he moved to Fayetteville, NC. In 1973 he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. During his military service he was deployed to Germany for a short time and then returned to Ft. Bragg, where he volunteered in 1978 to go to Ft. Bliss for paratrooper training before returning to Ft. Bragg to finish his military career, where he retired with an honorable discharge. During his army career he received the Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Pro. Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachute Badge, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After his army career he started driving truck for a few different companies before starting his own business, Nice Transport. He drove for himself until his health stopped him from doing so at age 78. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with electronics, home repair, flying, motorcycles, boating, gardening. Roger resided at his home until he passed away on August 28, 2024.

Survivors include daughter, Sheila Marie (Kevin) Brown of Curtis, NE; four grandchildren, Joel (Melynda) Linden, and their children Kenna, Caleb, Kameryn, Cicely (Ben Gitzen), Higginbotham, and their children, Garrett, Maddison, Christopher, Logan Brown, and his children Renesmae, Jaxon, Evangeline Brown, Rylie Jo Henderson.

Roger was preceded in death by parents, Aaron and Eleanor Nice, his brother, DeLane Nice, nephew, Terry Nice.

Graveside Services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm.&nbsp;

Roger Nice (1941-2024)

Donald Dean Chartier was born December 25th, 1931, in Yuma County Colorado to Frank and Bertha Chartier and he passed away in Globe, Arizona while visiting family September 6th 2024. &nbsp;Donald served in the Army during the Korean conflict and since was a member of the American Legion. In 1956 he went to Voc-Tech school in Milford to be a watchmaker. He also drove a truck for many years with CF and had never been in an accident and was a member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters.

 Donald moved to North Platte Nebraska and started his own business called Windbroom in 1981, which was a parking lot cleaning, marking and stripping business. He was very proud of his business working until he was 89 and still wore his Windbroom hat all the time even after retiring. Donald was involved with 4-H and the Lincoln County Fair, he would donate funds for awards, ribbons, and belt buckles and never missed a fair. He also volunteered time and donated funds to the hospital in North Platte, you can find his name on one of the benches there. 

Donald loved driving trucks, cooking, baking, and canning. One of the things that Donald treasured was his Rodeo Belt Buckle that he won for bull riding when he was a young man. He also had over 75 clocks running in his house that he bought broken and fixed as a hobby, his beloved watch that he wore he would hand wind every day. 

He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Phyllis Lowe of Crete, NE., Shirley Trembly of Globe, Az., and Dallas Chartier of Benkelman NE. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and eight other siblings, he will be laid to rest beside his mother Bertha in Wray, Colorado at his request.

 There will be a grave side service on September 25th, 2024 at Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado at 2pm.

Don Chartier (1931-2024)

Pamela “Pam” Sue Glodowski, a loving mother, wife, and dedicated guidance counselor passed away in Gothenburg Hospital on September 15, 2024.

Born on July 15, 1960 in Gothenburg, Nebraska, Pam lived her life through the love of family and friends.

As a young girl, she was a dedicated member of a farming family. The youngest child and only girl in a family of boys, "Susie" as her father, Keith, affectionately called her, quickly learned to be rough and tumble but still kept her tender heart. Her love for the land and livestock was highlighted by horseback rides with her brothers and cooking with her mother. Pam was inseparable from her mother and best friend, Lea. They enjoyed countless hours of conversation while walking or working together.&nbsp;

She attended Orafino, NE elementary until 2nd grade, where after she attended school at Farnam, NE until she graduated in 1978. After graduation, she attended Kearney State College in Kearney, NE majoring in business for two years until transferring to NCTA in Curtis, NE in 1980 where she received a degree in Horticulture.

Her love found a match when she met Jim while attending in Spring 1981. The two’s love flourished and they were married on September 10, 1983. Always wanting to be a mother, Pam was excited to gift Jim with their first boy, Kelsey in the spring of 1984. Her motherly tradition continued with two more boys with the birth of Logan in Summer 1989, and Lucas in Spring 1993.

Throughout her years of motherhood, Pam continued to pursue her love of knowledge. She became a guidance counselor at Farnam School in 1992. She earned her Masters degree at the University of Nebraska Kearney in School Counseling in 1996. Pam continued to work at Eustis-Farnam as a counselor until becoming the Middle-School Counselor at Gothenburg Public School in 2009.

Her years in the school system were marked with a positive attitude, laughter, and mindful wisdom, influencing students throughout the years with their warm interactions. Pam inspired a positive spontaneity. Whether through a funny prank, or a well intended scare, it always resulted in hugs and laughter. Pam always encouraged individuals to live life to the fullest every day.

Pam was an avid gardener. Her summers were spent tending to her garden and utilizing the garden produce to cook wonderful meals for her family. She had a great love for the outdoors; whether going for her daily walks, or catching catfish at the Medicine Creek, Pam had a deep-seated connection to the land.

In Spring of 2024, Pam was diagnosed with cancer. Pam, not to be one to give up easily, took on the battle with all her spirit and faith in Christ. She maintained a positive attitude in the face of fear and refused to be broken. During this time, she retired from Gothenburg Public School to be home with her family, always the strongest love of her life. Throughout the year, her family created wonderful memories and beautiful moments with her.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Jim Glodowski, and their sons: Kelsey and his wife Jessica Glodowski of McCook; Logan Glodowski of Kearney and Lucas Glodowski of Farnam; very special grandson Audie Glodowski of McCook; her brothers Mike and his wife Beth Messersmith of Gothenburg and Pat and his wife Sandra Messersmith of Maywood; sister-in-law Teresa Messersmith of Gothenburg; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as friends and former students. Her legacy is carried on in the form of memories, positive attitudes, and a powerful love of life.

Pam is preceded in death by her parents Keith and Leora (Knoll) Messersmith, and her oldest brother, Garold Messersmith.

Pam’s absence will be felt by all whom she touched with her positive energy and love. Her commitment to family, friendship, and community will always serve as a beautiful example of a life lived to the fullest, creating a legacy that will always be remembered by all whom she touched.

Visitation will be held, Friday, September 20, 2024 1:00-7:00 pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Services will be held, Saturday, September 21, 2024, 2:00 pm at Farnam Methodist Church, with Pastor Elmo Hermann officiating.&nbsp;

Interment will follow in the Farnam Cemetery.

Pam Glodowski (1960-2024)

Timothy Patrick McGuire, 67, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home in Lexington.

He was born on January 7, 1957, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Jack and Josephine (Kain) McGuire. He attended Lexington Public Schools and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1975. On August 20, 1977, Tim was united in marriage to Christine Nelson. To this union, Amanda was born. Their marriage would later end in divorce. Tim would find love again and was united in marriage to Lynee Hardesty at the Chapel of the Lake in Johnson Lake. Tim held many careers including working for the Lexington Alfalfa Hay Mill, Sperry New Holland and Tyson Foods where he worked as a supervisor for over 18 years before retiring in 2009.

Tim believed that he only needed five things in his life to be happy: his family, his dogs, good food, the College World Series, and playing pool. He took great joy in spending time with his family and keeping up with his children and grandchildren's activities. Tim was an animal lover who never spent much time without a dog in his life, giving extra love to his two dogs, Lucky and Luna. He liked working with his hands and often spent many hours working on different types of projects in his home as well as welding or going outside for some clay shooting.&nbsp;

He was also known to be an exceptional cook. He enjoyed smoking and grilling and was given the nickname "Chef Boyardee" thanks to his famous spaghetti recipe. Tim was a big sports fanatic, who loved watching Husker Football and even played in local bowling leagues, but his favorite had to be the College World Series. He dedicated over 30 years watching with his friends and his wife. Tim was partial to many things in life, but his biggest passion was playing pool. He was a phenomenal player who competed and won many singles, doubles, and masters games at the National APA playoffs in Las Vegas as well as playing in the TAP league, coming in 2nd while playing in Charleston, South Carolina.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Lynee McGuire of Lexington; daughter, Amanda (Arturo) Zamudio of Lexington; stepdaughter, Tracy (Todd) Naylor of Lexington; stepson, Troy (Lincey) McDonald of Orleans, Nebraska; stepdaughter-in-law, Christina McDonald of Juniata, Nebraska; grandchildren, Daven Naylor, Daylen Naylor, Dawson McDonald-Anderson, Quinton McDonald-Anderson, Andrew Zamudio, Anthony Zamudio, Aspyn Zamudio, Jayce McDonald, Parker McDonald, Calliegh McDonald, Ansliegh McDonald, and foster grandchild, Elsa Flores-Raymundo; brothers, John McGuire of Omaha, and William McGuire of Lincoln, as well as extended family and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his stepson, Phillip McDonald, and ex-wife, Christine Mueller.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Burial will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Lexington.

Tim Patrick McGuire (1957-2024)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda Kay Wurm was born on January 29, 1945 in Wilsonville, Nebraska, the only child of Gerald Wayne and Alpha Lee (Bailey) Oliver. Ronda attended school in Red Willow County and graduated from McCook High School.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda was united in marriage to the love of her life, George Wurm, in Denver, Colorado on June 2, 1966. Ronda and George made McCook, Nebraska home where they raised their four daughters and enjoyed 57 blessed years of marriage.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. She was an avid reader and above all will be remembered as a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Ronda passed away on Monday morning, September 16, 2024 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 79 years of age.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Alpha Lee Oliver; grandparents, Orrin and Loretta Bailey; husband, George Wurm; and grandsons, Shannon Pierce and Clayton Pierson.

Sister Shirley Ann Simmons, OSU, 99, died in the 82nd year of her religious life on June 9, 2024, at Nazareth Home-Clifton. A native of Heartwell, Nebraska, she graduated from St. Patrick High School, in North Platte, where she was taught by the Ursulines, then received a scholarship to attend Ursuline College in Louisville. She entered the Ursulines in 1942 at age 17.

Sister Shirley Ann began her 55-year ministry as a teacher in Louisville at St. Boniface parish school in 1944, then later taught at Our Lady of Lourdes parish school and served as principal of St. Elizabeth parish school. She also taught in Cumberland, Maryland and in Omaha and North Platte, Nebraska. She served as principal at three schools in Nebraska: St. Patrick Elementary in Sidney; Blessed Sacrament School in Omaha; and St. Luke School in Ogallala from 1975 until her retirement in 1999. She then served in parish ministry in St. Luke parish until she returned to Louisville in 2012. She volunteered at United Crescent Hill Ministries and in the Ursuline Sisters' archives for several years.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from the former Ursuline College (now Bellarmine University) in Louisville, and a master of arts degree in education from Creighton University, Omaha.

She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Joe Dodson; brother John "Jack" Simmons; and brother and sister-in-law Niles Simmons and Joan Cohen. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as her community of Ursuline Sisters and Associates.

Donald Dean Goad, age 81 of Gothenburg, Nebraska died Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Gothenburg Health in Gothenburg, Nebraska.&nbsp;

“Dean” was born on June 4, 1943 in Wallace, Nebraska the 11th of 12 children to Archie and Marie (Tesar) Goad. He graduated from Wallace High School with the class of 1960. Dean and Linda married in Wellfleet, NE on November 28, 1964. In 1967 they moved to Gothenburg and together, began what would become 55+ years of business in fuel, auto and tire service and cattle production in Gothenburg.

He is survived by his wife Linda (Cooper) Goad, daughter Kimberly Goad of Gothenburg, son Ross (Cynthia) Goad of Gothenburg, three grand children Alexandra Goad, Michael (Shilo) Goad, and Jonathan Goad, two great-grand children, Kaiser &amp; Arianna, two brothers, Ronald Goad and Warren Goad both of Salem, OR; two sisters Loretta Alberty of Bakersfield, CA and Phyllis Coppersmith of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Marie and Archie Goad, brothers Robert Goad, Joseph Goad, David Goad, Gerald Goad and infant brother Harley and sisters Eula Gibbs and Dorothy Collins.

Cynthia Anne Loving was born December 5, 1961, in Gary, IN.&nbsp; She passed away peacefully in Grand Island, NE, on September 15, 2024, as she was surrounded by family and friends. &nbsp;She was 62 years old.

Known by many as Annie, she was also known to those who loved her as giving, eccentric and one of a kind. &nbsp;She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and her beloved dog, Bella. &nbsp;Annie was also known for her creative flair, often seen crafting beautiful bracelets. &nbsp;A fan of WWE wrestling, Walker Texas Ranger and Dr. Quinn, she enjoyed watching her shows during the evenings. You could also find Annie jamming out to her favorite R&amp;B music, she had a very eclectic taste in music, hobbies and everything she did. &nbsp;Her commitment to her friendships was profound, always ready to lend a helping hand or couch whenever needed.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, George Sr. and Ruth; and siblings George Jr. and Johnnie Loving and Bonnie Murphy.

&nbsp;Arlene was born on June 29, 1934, in Valley County to Hans Andrew and Cora Anne (Greenland) Schmidt. She grew up and received her education in Arcadia and graduated from high school there. Arlene was united in marriage to Richard Franzen on May 31, 1952, and to this union five children were born: Penny, Frank, Peggy, Randy and Patty. The couple made their home in the Broken Bow, North Loup/Scotia and Arcadia areas until moving to Broken Bow in April of 1965. She began her long career at B.D. in 1965 until retiring in 1997.

&nbsp;Arlene enjoyed reading, card games, attending grandchildren’s activities and baking for her family.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She was a member of the United Methodist Church, D.O.E.S. and V.F.W. Auxiliary in Broken Bow.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Arlene is survived by her children, Randy (Dian) Franzen of Broken Bow and Patty (Marc) Harpham of McCook; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Al Schmidt along with many nieces and nephews.

Arlene Franzen (1934-2024)

Lanny Emanuel Weverka, 86, of Sargent, Nebraska peacefully passed away Friday, September 13th at home, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

&nbsp;Lanny and his wife, Janie, began their journey in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where they owned and operated Ski View Lodge. They later moved to Denver, where Lanny worked as a supervisor for General Finance. His career took them to Oklahoma City before they returned to Sargent to raise their family.

&nbsp;Lanny had many passions throughout his life. He cherished his beautiful wife of 61 years, reveled in polka music, and enjoyed breeding quarter horses. He loved long family trips to Branson, Missouri, playing the accordion, and rodeoing with his son. He loved sports and was a devoted fan of any activity his grandchildren were involved in. Lanny always enjoyed a good drink with friends and a competitive card game of 99 with his family. His cattle, which he always promised he would purchase for “one more year”, held a special place in his heart. Above all, his family was his greatest joy.

&nbsp;Lanny is survived by his wife Janie, daughter Lana Anderson and husband Jim, son Mike Weverka and wife Karen, daughter Julie Vanderheiden and husband Randy, grandchildren Chelsea Beck and husband Brandon, Michaela Weverka and Andy McNeil, Emma Anderson and Raymond Forstater, Jayden Vanderheiden, Savannah Jacobsen and husband Andrew, Mitchell Anderson and Leighanne Wetta, Mya Weverka, great granddaughter Hazelle Jacobsen, nephew Jeff Hoppes, sister Vikki Hoppes and husband Joe, nephews Shawn Hoppes, brother-in-law Bruce Young and Frannie Harper and a host of family and friends.

Lanny Weverka (1938-2024)

Emily E. Kelley, age 98, of Sargent, was born on March 21, 1926, to Martin and Emma (Polak) Weverka. She was born at home on the farm and was named Baby Weverka on her birth certificate. Emily was the youngest of five siblings: Julius, Emanuel, and twins William and Wilma.

She walked to a country school until she later attended Sargent Public School and graduated in 1944. She then moved to Omaha to live with her sister, Wilma, and attend beauty school. Emily loved to dance. In fact, at a dance hall in Omaha, she met her husband Richard William Kelley. They were married on October 8, 1949, at St. Bridgette’s Catholic Church in Omaha. In 1954, they moved back to Sargent to farm and raise their children. Emily loved to bake and was known for her homemade kolaches and sauerkraut.&nbsp;

After Richard passed in 1994, Emily stayed on the farm staying busy with her plants, garden, and love of going to auctions. In 2022, she went to live with her daughter, Annette Sierks. Emily passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, in Brewster.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Martin J. Weverka and Emma E. (Polak) Weverka, her husband, Richard W. Kelley, her son Martin J. Kelley, her daughter, Maureen E. (Kelley) Sartain, and her grandson, Russell W. Kelley.

Left to cherish Emily’s memories are her children, Richard W. Kelley (Shirley) of Broken Bow, Sharon Sherbeck (Ed) of Taylor, Annette Sierks (Tim) of Brewster, and Marilyn Grant (Todd) of Ansley, 17 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren.

Lois J. Gregory, formerly of Cozad, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege at the age of 85. Lois was born October 22, 1938 in Exeter, Nebraska to Alfred “Fritz” and Verde (Dyer) Loshonkohl. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1956. On July 15, 1956, Lois was united in marriage to Chuck Gregory in Cozad, Nebraska. They lived in Lexington for a few months and then moved to Clinton, Missouri where they owned and operated a gas station. In 1960, they moved back to Cozad where she worked many years at JC Penney and Hunts Dry Cleaners, where she retired in 1991. Lois enjoyed mowing the yard. Chuck purchased a riding mower and we all could hear her, trying to stop and yelling WHOA as she went across the road into the neighbors alfalfa field. In 1987, they moved to Johnson Lake, where she cleaned houses, and back to Cozad in 2002. In 2009, they sold their home and travelled full time, fulfilling their dream in their camper. Lois loved traveling in their camper which took them from coast to coast, east, west, north and south, including Canada and Alaska. She loved spending time at several lakes with a fishing pole in her hand. Lois and Chuck loved to fish. While the kids were young, they spent many weekends camping at the local lakes, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and Lois even learned how to ski. There were many family vacations together. She was never good at reading a map. She had to turn around in the seat backwards to keep them going in the right direction. After retirement, they spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona and Weslaco, Texas, spending their summers in Nebraska and traveling. Lois loved playing cards, games and entering shuffleboard court tournaments during the winters. They loved their life camping and traveling until her health would no longer allow them to. In 2018, they moved to Holdrege, Nebraska and the last 3 ½ years were spent at Holdrege Memorial Homes.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jean Hagemen; siblings, Helen (Dallas) Clevenger, Betty (Leonard) Collicott and Roy (Lore) Loshonkohl; mother-in-law, Mary Lyons; father-in-law, Ora Gregory; 5 brother-in-laws and 1 sister-in-law.

On September 12, 2024, Athena Rose Brinker, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 6 years. &nbsp;She was welcomed into the world on March 31, 2018, in North Platte, by her doting mother, Autumn Brinker. &nbsp;

Athena faced what seemed like an endless list of physical and mental setbacks but her fighting spirit always shone through. &nbsp;Unable to physically speak, she developed her own method of communicating. &nbsp;Athena was a cuddler from the day she was born; she loved to nuzzle her face into your chest. &nbsp;She appeared most content when being read to or listening to music, especially music from the “Frozen” soundtrack. &nbsp;Athena attended preschool at Osgood Elementary and kindergarten at Washington Elementary. &nbsp;

Athena touched the hearts of everyone that knew her and she will forever be remembered. &nbsp;Family that remains to celebrate the life she lived include her mother, Autumn Brinker and fiancé, Brandon Basnett; brother, Ashton Basnett; grandparents, Chad Brinker of North Platte, Travis Anderson of North Platte; paternal great grandparents, Bill &amp; Deb Brinker of North Platte; maternal great grandparents, David and Susan Machacek.

Athena was preceded in death by her grandmother, Pam Anderson.

Robert Thomas White, age 70, of Lemoyne, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Ogallala Community Hospital in Ogallala, Nebraska from complications of COPD.&nbsp;

He is survived by his daughter, Aimee (Rohan) Willson, and grandson Devin of Florida; his son, Ryan White of Oregon; brother George (Diane) White of Georgia; sister Beverly (Billy) O'Donnell of Texas and significant other Janan Lockman of Lemoyne, Nebraska.

Robert Thomas White (1954-2024)

Rick Nielsen, age 59 of Randolph, NE passed away September 9, 2024, at the Colonial Manor in Randolph, NE.

Rick was born to Kenneth and Aletha Imogene “Jean” (McNulty) Nielsen on November 28, 1964, at the Broken Bow Community Hospital in Broken Bow, NE. Ken and Jean divorced in 1967, Ken married Olive (Mills) Turner in 1968, blending their families.

Rick attended elementary, middle, and high school in Broken Bow until he sustained a massive brain stem injury in an automobile accident. He later obtained his GED.

As a teenager, Rick enjoyed playing sports, especially football. He also enjoyed fishing and other outdoor activities.

As an adult Rick lived in several structured housing units until January 2000, when he moved to Village Northwest in Sheldon, IA. He enjoyed a full life at Village Northwest. He moved to Colonial Manor in Randolph, NE in July of 2024.

Rick was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, stepsister Toni M. Turner, and grandparents.

Rick is survived by Olive Nielsen, Joseph Turner, Terri Oehm, Scott (Mary Ann) Nielsen, Jean Burnett, sisters, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, guardian and friend Stephanie B. Schmidt, and friends of Village Northwest and Colonial Manor.

Rick Nielsen (1964-2024)

Ronn Franklin Castle passed away 8/30/2024 at his residence in Lakewood, Colorado. Ronn was born in Chappell, Nebraska in 1939 to Wilmer and Maureen Castle. The Castle family lived two miles south of Chappell. They were a strong part of the Chappell farming community, raising wheat, corn, and livestock.

Ronn was a life-long member of the Chappell Methodist Church. His absence is dearly felt by many who loved him. Ronn was an excellent student with a deep love for athletics, starting with his position as high school quarterback and point guard for three years. His senior year, the basketball team was undefeated until the last game of the season. An all-around athlete, Ronn won the John Statler Athlete of The Year Award in 1958. He would spend spring and summer running track, pitching for the Junior Legion and “Town Team,” and playing both golf and tennis. With his quiet good nature, he was a leader on and off the field, and elected as the Homecoming King for Chappell High School his senior year. Ronn took his competitive athletic talents to Hastings College and then joined the Huskers at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. During the summer months from school, Ronn returned to Chappell to work with his father and Uncle “Bud” on their farms. He loved golfing and playing tennis with his Chappell and Denver buddies throughout his life.

Ronn graduated from Denver University with a degree in Business and Finance. He then joined the banking industry in Denver working for American National. After his banking career, he became an Investment and Financial Planning Advisor. He was with American Express prior to joining LPL Financial in 1997 where he remained an active financial planner. Ronn was well respected in the industry and enjoyed helping his clients achieve their financial goals.

He is survived by his two step daughters Teela Craik and Dana Green (David) of Greeley Co., grandchildren Ashleigh Titus (Cajun) Greeley Co., Brandi Sosa Denver Co., and Austin Green (Alyssa) Gardendale Tx., great grandchildren Thailar, Akira, Leo, Aydn, Lelia and Taylor, sister Connie Goddard and nephews Chris and Luke. He also remained close to his “Chappell Cousins,” Linda and Gary Smith, Jim Castle, Larry and Joyce Castle, and Glenda (Gary pre-deceased) Castle.

Ronn Castle (1939-2024)

Rick&nbsp;Blake of Sutherland passed away at Great Plains Heath on September 11, 2024, at age 66.

Rick, the son of Dareld and Joyce Blake, was born in Stratton on April 22, 1958. &nbsp;The family lived in Strasburg, CO, before moving to Nebraska where they lived in Huntley, then Sutherland. &nbsp;While in high school, Rick was quite the athlete! &nbsp;He played football and was on the track and field team where he threw shot put and discus. &nbsp;Rick earned several awards in football and held school records in shot and discus.

After graduating from Sutherland High School in 1976, Rick went on to Chadron State College with athletic scholarships in football and track and field. &nbsp;He later went to work for Brown &amp; Root Company, Bob Spady's in North Platte, then hired on at the Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland where he made sure everyone had reliable, affordable and efficient energy. &nbsp;Because of his dedication and years on the job, Rick eventually earned the title "The Legend". &nbsp;He worked for Nebraska Public Power District for 27 years until retiring. &nbsp;

Rick was a member of the N.R.A. and Platte River Sportsman Club and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. &nbsp;He enjoyed making bows and arrows from scratch, building guns and loading bullets. &nbsp;He also liked reading books by Louis LaMour and C.S. Lewis. &nbsp;Rick was a great husband, father and grandfather who loved being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dareld and Joyce Blake; niece, Missy Blake; and nephew, Jon Lemmerman.

Rick leaves behind his wife, Shari; their children, Ashley Johnson (Joe) of Sutherland, Justina Blake (Nick Eyten) of North Platte, Zachary Blake (Ali) of Sutherland and Preston Blake of Cozad; grandchildren, Dean and Jordan (Zach's kids) and Josephine and Nash (Justina's kids); his brothers, Randy Blake (Linda) of North Platte and Brad Blake (Angie) of Marquette and their three daughters; as well as other family.

Rick Blake (1958-2024)

Maurice L. Andre, age 83, of Arnold Nebraska, peacefully passed away September 10th, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born on January 18th, 1941, to Verl and Esther (Kelly) Andre in Arnold, Nebraska.

Maurice attended school at Arnold and graduated with the class of 1960.

He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Anderson on April 8th, 1961, in Arnold Nebraska. To this union, seven children were born: Eugene, Richard, Norman, Michael, Colleen, Jolleen, and Roger.&nbsp;

Maurice was always a hard worker and typically had at least two jobs. Following graduation, he worked in the newspaper business in several different towns. Maurice returned to Arnold and worked for Arnold Public Schools for 39 years and connected with many of the kids from kindergarten through their high school days. Also, while working at the school, he had a regular bus route and took kids to many of their activities. Maurice also had his own autobody shop where he worked nights and weekends. After retiring from the school, Maurice continued with his autobody shop and drove many miles hauling corn from the fields to the elevator.&nbsp;

At age 44, he started his initial fight with cancer. After many years of being cancer-free, he had a cancer infected kidney removed. He also fought cancer in different organs and even in his bones. After a courageous battle, he eventually succumbed to this horrible disease.&nbsp;

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Verl and Esther Andre, brothers, Myron and Keith Andre, brothers-in-law Edward Anderson and Gail Woodward, and great-grandchild Mack Wyckoff.

Left to cherish the memories he gave us are his wife, Mary; seven children: Eugene (Chris) Andre of Arnold, NE; Richard (Bev) Andre of Ogallala, NE; Norman Andre of Aurora, CO; Michael (Anne) Andre of Elkhorn, NE; Colleen (Dave) Reinhard of Hastings, NE; Jolleen (Dan) Trumbull of Callaway, NE; and Roger (Angie) Andre of Alma, NE. After a courageous battle, he eventually succumbed to this horrible disease.&nbsp;Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Verl and Esther Andre, brothers, Myron and Keith Andre, brothers-in-law Edward Anderson and Gail Woodward, and great-grandchild Mack Wyckoff.Left to cherish the memories he gave us are his wife, Mary; seven children: Eugene (Chris) Andre of Arnold, NE; Richard (Bev) Andre of Ogallala, NE; Norman Andre of Aurora, CO; Michael (Anne) Andre of Elkhorn, NE; Colleen (Dave) Reinhard of Hastings, NE; Jolleen (Dan) Trumbull of Callaway, NE; and Roger (Angie) Andre of Alma, NE. Sister JoAnne Woodward of Loveland, CO. 15 Grandchildren: DJ (Vanessa) Andre, Jami (Nick) Hupfer, Robert Forrester, Derek (Ciera) Andre, Olivia (Breydon) Andre, Jeremy Andre, Trenton Andre, Devon Andre, Zach Reinhard, Emma Reinhard, Kelsey (Rusty) Wyckoff, Brittany Trumbull, Natalie (Quincy) Trumbull, Haleigh Andre, and Dylan Andre. Nine great-grandchildren: Noah, Theodore, Watson, Jace, Jada, Easton, Hudson, Rylee, and Rayden.

Lucita A. Goodnight, 100, of North Platte, passed away September 10, 2024 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;She was born October 29, 1923 to Catalino and Josephine (Perez) Vasquez in Garden City, Kansas the first of nine siblings.

Goodnight, 100, of North Platte, passed away September 10, 2024 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;She was born October 29, 1923 to Catalino and Josephine (Perez) Vasquez in Garden City, Kansas the first of nine siblings.Lucita spent her childhood years living in Sutherland. &nbsp;She married Paul Goodnight and they lived in various places in Nebraska and Colorado. &nbsp;On her 100th birthday, her friend took her to see the Elvis show in North Platte and they sang Happy Birthday to her. &nbsp;Lucita was very proud of her family heritage and the founding of the Goodnight Trail.Lucita is survived by brothers, Cat Vasquez of Sutherland, Vern Vasquez of Cheyenne; numerous other family members and friends.Preceding her in death are parents, Catalino and Josephine; husband, Paul.Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. &nbsp;Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.
