&nbsp; Patricia A. Thompson of Imperial, NE passed away on Tuesday September 6, 2023 at the Imperial Manor at the age of 88 surrounded by family.&nbsp; Pat, as she was known, was born on July 19, 1935 in Imperial to Delma Leota (Brown) and Raymond Adam Jaeger. She attended Imperial Public Schools from elementary through 12th grade. After graduation, she married Jack Knotwell on her 18th birthday and moved to McCook, NE. To this union were born 2 girls: Gayla Kay and Cindy Rae. After a divorce in 1959, Pat and the 2 girls moved back to Imperial where she worked as a waitress at Babb’s café.

Pat married Jim Thompson on April 2, 1961 at the Methodist Church in Imperial. The following year they had a daughter, Linda Faye. The couple lived in the lone star community before purchasing the farm in the Blanche community.

Pat enjoyed sewing , knitting, gardening, crafts, extension club and card club. She drove the “bus” for country school children which so happened to be her big green impala. After Jim’s death in 1993, Pat purchased the John Splitt home in Imperial in 1995 where she has resided until present. She loved to go camping and gambling with her special friend, Fuzz Harris.

Pat is survived by her daughters, Gayla Mayden, Cindy Hudson &amp; Linda Kearns; Sisters, Delores Befort, Joyce Roesener, Marla (Darty) Schilke; sister-in-laws, Janette (Richard) Carmich, Jan Jaeger, Katie Thompson &amp; Bonnie Thompson; Grandsons, Schad (Jami) Mayden, Cody (Sara) Hudson, Dusty (Jennifer) Hudson and Jessie Demicell; granddaughters, Misty (Deni) Flesch, Chelsa Hudson and Kassy Herbert; Great grandchildren, Taylor (Cheyenne) Mayden, Brendan Mayden, Caysie and Saige Hudson, Lillian Brynn and Dane Hudson and Tristian Herbert; great-great grandson, Jaxon Harvey; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gordon (Bell) Jaeger, sister, Sharon Jaeger, husbands Jack Knotwell and Jim Thompson; in-laws, Richard &amp; Glenn Jr. Thompson, Janice Widger, Rodger Mayden, Robert Hudson, Oliver Befort and Jim Demicell; Son-in-Laws Rodger Mayden, Robert Hudson and Jim Demicell, nieces Jana Prebbeno and Cindy Roesener; nephews, Russell Schilke, Bill Carmen, Kirk Collins and Kent Thompson.

Patricia Annette Thompson (1935-2023)

Sandy Jensen, 71, of Lexington, Nebraska, peacefully passed away on Sunday September 3, 2023 in Omaha at CHI Bergan Mercy.

Sandra Jean (Larson) Jensen was born November 10, 1951 in Gregory, South Dakota to Donald E. Larson and L.Joyce (Larsh) Larson. She grew up on the family farm south of Dallas, South Dakota.&nbsp; She attended country school at the Melrose school from first grade until third grade.

In February of 1961 the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota.

Sandy attended Wilson Elementary School until the family moved to the west side of town in July of 1962.&nbsp; She finished her elementary education at South Canyon Elementary School. Sandy completed her middle school education at West Junior High School.

Sandy began her high school education attending her Sophomore, Junior, and the first term of her Senior year at Rapid City Central High School. The new Stevens High School was completed mid-term, and she finished her senior year at Stevens, graduating magna cum laude in May of 1970.

Sandy loved music and had a beautiful voice, and also played guitar. Her favorite singing moment came when she performed a solo of Ave Maria at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.&nbsp; She was also part of the cast at the Melodrama music show in Rockerville, South Dakota.

Sandy had a big heart and loved helping others, so she decided to attend nursing school at the University of South Dakota School of Nursing in Rapid City, South Dakota, receiving her RN degree and Cap in the Spring of 1975.

After nursing school, she moved to Lexington, Nebraska, where she met Roger Jensen, the love of her life. They were married April 15th, 1978, and made their home in Lexington, Nebraska, where they raised their two children, Amy (Corey) Anderson and Ryan (LaTisha) Jensen, and grandchildren, Brissa and Soren Jensen. Sandy was very proud of her family.

Nursing was her passion, and she loved her employment at Lexington Regional Health Center and Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.

Sandy had an infectious laugh that would light up the room. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Roger of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Corey Anderson of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and LaTisha Jensen of Omaha; grandchildren, Brissa and Soren Jensen of Omaha; sisters, Carol (Keith) Umenthum of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Pamela (Dave) Kunzweiler of Rapid City, South Dakota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and in-laws.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Joyce Larson; her brother, Bradley J. Larson; her grandparents, May (Jernberg) and Perry Larson and Nellie (Ross) Larsh and John Franklin Larsh Sr.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating.

A Memorial Book Signing with the family present will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Inurnment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery west of Lexington.

Carol Carpenter, age 84, of Broken Bow, NE passed away September 4, 2023, at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, NE.

Carol Lorraine Carpenter was born November 4, 1938, in Ansley, NE to Lemuel and Alma (Landes) Parker.

Carol worked as a waitress before going to work at Becton Dickinson for 40 years.

Carol married Carl Speer, Jr and the couple had five children. After her divorce she raised all five children on her own. Later in life she married Cleon “Carp” Carpenter, the love of her life, until his death in 2003.

Carol was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for 40 years. She enjoyed going to Assemblies with friends from church and their bible studies together.

Carol was an avid reader. She always had a book or her bible with her. She loved going for long rides with her husband Carp and stopping to try new restaurants. She liked going fishing with Carp or her grandson Andrew, where they fished, and she sat and read a book. Carol loved to take the kids camping in Colorado.

Carol was a very giving person; if you visited her, she always offered to fix you something to eat. If she had a dollar and you needed it, she gave it. She never spoke ill of anyone. The worse thing anyone ever heard her say was, “I don’t like them much, but I can get along with them.”

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Cleon “Carp”, mother Alma (Landes) Pettis, father Lemuel Parker, three sisters Ruby Reno, Wanda Schmidt, and Bonnie Jean Parker, and three grandsons Zack Speer, Jessie Speer, and Markus Hohenreiter.

Carol is survived by her children Carl Keith (Sherry) Speer of Gibbon, Deborah (Mike) Dodge of North Dakota, Daniel (Jennifer) Speer of Broken Bow, Angie Martinez of Colorado, and William Speer of Broken Bow, 25 grandkids, 38 great grandkids, siblings David Parker, Doris Jones, and Leland “Corky” Parker.

Lee Owen Harris, former Cozad resident, passed away August 29, 2023 at The Willows at Gretna, NE at the age of 82. He was born in Cozad to Bill and Loretta (Bybee), the second of six children, on May 20, 1941.

The Harris family attended the Primitive Baptist Church and moved to a small farm near Darr where Lee attended District #19 rural school. &nbsp;He earned several math and science academic awards. Lee was an outstanding athlete in multiple sports and a proud member of the 1958 Class B State Championship Track Team. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1959. &nbsp;Three months later on August 22, he married his high school sweetheart, Lavonne Grabenstein. &nbsp;To this union they were blessed with two children: Brian and Vicki.

The couple lived in Denver for a short time before returning to Cozad to begin a farm/ranch business of 25 years. &nbsp;Lee was recognized as the Outstanding Young Farmer of Nebraska in 1966. &nbsp;He was active in the American Lutheran Church, serving as head usher and a member of the church council. &nbsp;He was involved with the Dawson County Cattlemen, Nebraska Cattlemen, Dawson County Extension Board, and the 100th Meridian Livestock 4-H Club. He served as the president of the T-Bone Club and secretary for the District #29 council. &nbsp;He was a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge. &nbsp;Also, Lee was an avid tennis player in both singles and doubles competition.

With a move to Lincoln in 1990, Lee and Lavonne embarked on their truck driving career. &nbsp;For nearly 14 years, they travelled cross-country as a team for over a million miles. &nbsp;After Lavonne's untimely death in 2005, Lee stayed busy with travelling, part-time work at Walmart, and attending his grandchildren's school events and family gatherings.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Lavonne; parents; in-laws Walter and Della June Grabenstein; brothers Charles and Dee; brothers-in-law Gary Grabenstein and Rod Light. &nbsp; Survivors are son Brian (Lynn) Harris of Bushnell, FL; daughter Vicki (Derrin) Hansen of Gretna; granddaughter Danica (Jackson) Wilson of Madison, AL; grandson Derek (Mikayla) Harris of Omaha; granddaughter Abby Hansen of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Erica Hansen of Omaha; four great-grandchildren Callen, Cora, and Cienna Wilson, and Jaxdon Harris. Lee's siblings include Orpha (Ron) McVicker of Denver, CO; Jon (Kerri) Harris of Davenport, FL; Rita Light of Bennet. &nbsp;Many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with other dear friends, are left to cherish his memory.

Lee Owen Harris (1941-2023)

Sillas James “Jim” Sillasen, age 93, of Ogallala, NE. formerly of Keystone; died Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at Wel-life Health Care in Ogallala, NE.

Jim was born on July 15, 1930, to Andrew and Mabel (Krab) Sillasen in Sutherland, NE.&nbsp; He was raised on the family ranch east of Keystone, where he continued to live throughout his life.&nbsp; Jim recalled that as a young child, his first job was to feed the cats and the chickens and bring in wood for the cook stove.&nbsp; He was the third generation of the family to manage the ranch and all the employees who were hired to feed cattle and put-up hay.

He met his future wife, Verna McGreer, at a dance in Paxton.&nbsp; They married in Big Springs, NE on June 10, 1951.&nbsp; Jim and Verna had three children: Kathleen (Creighton) Miller, Joanell (Ron) Klug, and Lee (Brenda) Sillasen.&nbsp; They raised their family on the ranch and took in more than one youth who needed a home. Jerry Craghead and Cal Peters were two such young men, who initially came to work on the ranch and then became part of the family.&nbsp;

Jim was always busy on the ranch, from checking the cows in the hills to supervising the work in the hayfield.&nbsp; If one of the kids had too much fun on Friday night, he was sure to have a good job waiting for them on Saturday morning.&nbsp; The kids laughingly recall having to move cattle or clean out a tank, among other things, on many a Saturday morning.&nbsp; Jim was always able to find one of the grandkids a job to help them, as he said, build character.&nbsp; He never knew a stranger and was often found visiting with a friend he had just met.&nbsp; Jim could always be counted on to be at the sale barn in Ogallala.&nbsp; He was there every week to catch up on the latest news at the round table.&nbsp;

In his later years, Jim could often be found on the golf course, playing with his buddy, Cal, and his son-in-law, Creighton.&nbsp; He was well known to be the only golfer with golf spikes on his cowboy boots.&nbsp; He loved horses and rode his whole life until he switched to his trusty Honda Rancher. As a child, he rode his horse four miles, uphill both ways, in the snow, to go to school and return home.

In 2016, Jim and Verna moved to assisted living in Columbus, NE to be near their daughter, Joanell, and her family.&nbsp; It was the first time he had lived anywhere but the ranch.&nbsp; In 2017, they returned to Ogallala and moved to Wel-Life Assisted Living.&nbsp; At Wel-Life, he enjoyed keeping the staff on their toes.&nbsp; One incident involved Jim utilizing his golf club to launch a frozen cherry tomato.&nbsp; The tomato soared down the hall into Charlotte’s office and splatted on her desk. Jim had the privilege of cleaning up the mess.

Jim is survived by his children; Kathleen (Creighton) Miller, Joanell (Ron) Klug, and Lee (Brenda) Sillasen; his grandchildren: Andrew (Lynnette) Klug, Angela (Derek) Maursted, Karleen (Chad) Muhle, Darcey (Karl) Saxton, Stacy (Gordon) Decker, Jason (Elizabeth) Sillasen and Erin (Lucas) Sillasen-Banks; thirteen great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, many friends - including all the folks who cared for him at Wel-Life.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister Donna (Herb) Ledbetter, his parents-in-law, Coyle and Clara McGreer, and two brothers-in-law, Wilber (Pat) McGreer and Harold, “Mick” (Virginia) McGreer.&nbsp;

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, Ne.

Services will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel, officiating will be Ron Jay.

Inurnment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery, Ogallala, Ne.

A memorial has been established for the Paxton Volunteer Fire Department.

 </figure>Sillas James “Jim” Sillasen, age 93, of Ogallala, NE. formerly of Keystone; died Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at Wel-life Health Care in Ogallala, NE.Jim was born on July 15, 1930, to Andrew and Mabel (Krab) Sillasen in Sutherland, NE.&nbsp; He was raised on the family ranch east of Keystone, where he continued to live throughout his life.&nbsp; Jim recalled that as a young child, his first job was to feed the cats and the chickens and bring in wood for the cook stove.&nbsp; He was the third generation of the family to manage the ranch and all the employees who were hired to feed cattle and put-up hay.He met his future wife, Verna McGreer, at a dance in Paxton.&nbsp; They married in Big Springs, NE on June 10, 1951.&nbsp; Jim and Verna had three children: Kathleen (Creighton) Miller, Joanell (Ron) Klug, and Lee (Brenda) Sillasen.&nbsp; They raised their family on the ranch and took in more than one youth who needed a home. Sillas James "Jim" Sillasen (1930-2023)

Arlene Ann Colgan, 83, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Bryan Health Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She was born on August 14, 1940, in Lexington, Nebraska to Robert and Alfreda (Christensen) Brown. She graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1958. On June 6, 1959, Arlene was united in marriage to Thomas Colgan at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. The couple would later return to St. Ann's Catholic Church to renew their vows in 2009. Four children were blessed to this union: Kelly, Kirk, Kris, and Kathy.&nbsp;

The family moved to several locations during their lives. In 1972, they moved to Boulder, Colorado where she worked for King Soopers before moving to Broomfield, Colorado in 1973 until 1979. Then they moved to Arvada, Colorado until 1984 when they decided to move to Eagle, Nebraska. This is where they owned their own grocery store: The Eagle Food Mart. In 1992, the family moved to Johnson Lake, Nebraska before finally settling in Elwood, Nebraska in 2006.

Arlene was a remarkable individual known for her dedication as a housemaker and her exceptional skills as a gardener. She nurtured her green thumb through the years, cultivating vibrant and breathtaking gardens that were admired by all who laid eyes upon them. Arlene's gardens not only brought joy to her but also served as an inspiration for others to create their own.&nbsp;Throughout her life, Arlene approached every task with unwavering determination and meticulous attention to detail. As a housemaker, she transformed her house into a warm and inviting home that radiated love and comfort. Her family took solace in the knowledge that they were cared for by someone who poured heart and soul into creating an atmosphere of harmony. Arlene possessed an unwavering faith and would always make time to go to church on Sundays.&nbsp;Arlene Colgan's legacy is one of creativity, love, and resilience.&nbsp;

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Kirk Colgan and girlfriend Elaine Walker of Centennial, Colorado, Kelly (Gary) Bruning of Casa Grande, Arizona, Kristopher Colgan of Lincoln, Nebraska and Katherine Colgan of Elwood, Nebraska; grandchildren, Nicole Bruning of Phoenix, Arizona and&nbsp; Zachary Bruning of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Julia (Ben) Long of Longmont, Colorado; brother, Ron (Dianne) Brown of Lincoln, Nebraska as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Arlene's wish of cremation.

Arlene Ann Colgan (1940-2023)

William Brewster Ewing, 94, of West Hills, CA, formerly of Glendale, CA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 10, 2023.&nbsp;

He was the ninth child born to Chatham John and Rachel (Oleson) Ewing of Scotch Plains, New Jersey. After his mother passed in the spring of 1947, he went to live with his oldest sister Rachel and her husband in Connecticut. Bill lived with them until entering the Army in February 1951. During his Army time, he found his wonderful helpmate in Knoxville, TN. On October 16, 1951 he married his sweetheart Alice Berney. Six weeks later, he left to serve in the Army at a hospital in Okinawa, Japan. After serving in Okinawa for 15 months, he was discharged in 1953, and he and Alice settled in Knoxville, TN. Bill then attended the University of Tennessee and received his B.S. in 1956 and M.S. in 1960. Bill and Alice raised five daughters with much love and patience. After college graduation Bill went to work as a TN State Bank Examiner from 1960 until 1965. In 1965 he worked as an Auditor at Fountain City Bank in Knoxville, TN. In December of 1975 he relocated to Glendale, CA with his wife and four daughters. In California he worked for the Federal Reserve as a Bank Examiner. His office was in downtown Los Angeles but Bill traveled the west coast with the Federal Reserve. He retired from banking in 1989.

Throughout his life, Bill loved his family deeply and was devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He prayed faithfully for his family, his country and for all to come to know the Lord as their Savior. He adored his grandchildren &amp; great-grandchildren. He enjoyed eating, traveling, corny jokes &amp; singing hymns. He had a heart for keeping in touch with many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was a very humble, thoughtful &amp; generous man.

He was heartbroken when his wife of 69 years passed away in 2020, and he longed to join her in their eternal heavenly home.

Survivors include five daughters, Cheryl (Keith) Smith of Concord, CA, Brenda (Gary) Widholm of Gothenburg, NE, Elaine (Gary) Gysin of West Hills, CA, Kimberly R Cole of Cumming, GA, Jill (Jimmer) Hanggi of Fullerton, CA; 13- grandchildren; Gena (Stephen) Howarter, Dustin (Lyndsie) Smith, Jordan (Meggie) Widholm, Lauren (Nick) Cushing, Brett and Rachel Gysin, Allison Cole of GA, Ella and Jacob Hanggi of Fullerton, CA, eight great-grandchildren: Abigail, Lexie, Asher and Luke Howarter, Karia and Kortnie Smith, Ellie and Sadie Cushing.

William was preceded in death by spouse, Alice, parents, in-laws, eight brothers and sisters, two great-granddaughters, Hope and Faith Widholm.

William Ewing (1928-2023)

George “Art” Sheldon, 86, of Kearney, Nebraska formerly of Lexington passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society – St. John’s in Kearney.

Art was born on May 16, 1937, in Lisco, Nebraska to Arthur and Nora (Wood) Sheldon. In 1944, at the age of 7, the family to moved to Overton, Nebraska, where he attended public schools and graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1956.

Art was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marilynn Reed on May 25, 1958 in Lexington. Four children were blessed to this union: Deb, Rick, Dan and Dave. The family made their home in Lexington where Art began a long career, over forty years as a massage therapist. Art and Marilyn moved to Kearney in 2019.

Art enjoyed doing mechanical work on his cars and tinkering in the garage. He liked watching old westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Rawhide. Art and Marilyn also enjoyed traveling and he always looked forward to making a trip to Branson.

He was always busy learning new things, being a jokester and enjoyed visiting with people. He loved his job and was very giving and would help others in any way he could.

Survivors include his wife, Marilynn of Kearney; his children, Deb (Bryan) Brummet of Rapid City, South Dakota, Rick (Kim) Sheldon of Kearney, Dan (Terri) Sheldon of Kearney and Dave (Kim) Sheldon of Lexington; grandchildren, Amy (Adrian) Padilla, Aaron Brummet, Brandon Sheldan, Nichole Sheldon, Jeremy (Alisha) Sheldon, Nate (Emily) Sheldon, and Justin (Salene) Sheldon; step-grandchildren, Justen and Shania Gutierrez, Kayla (Taylor) Killion and Cody Moran; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Vincent, and Miranda Padilla, Tony Brummet, Jaxon, Oakley, Dekker Sheldon and Julianne Sheldon; step-great-grandchildren, Karson, Emerson and Thadyn Killion.

George "Art" Sheldon (1937-2023)

Kristi Kay McAuliff, 73, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Jefferson Community Health and Life Gardenside in Fairbury, Nebraska, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 22, 1949, in Kearney, Nebraska, to Eugene and Wanda (Dauel) Unick. Kristi attended Pleasanton Public Schools where she graduated with the class of 1967. On September 14, 1968, Kristi married her high school sweetheart, John McAuliff. Three daughters were blessed to this union: Melissa, Shannon and Misty.

Since John was in the Military, he and Kristi found themselves moving quite often. In October of 1968, they moved to Frankfurt, Germany where John was proudly serving his country. In February of 1970, they relocated to the Pleasanton area then shortly moved to Pleasant Valley that same year. By the end of 1975, the couple moved into Kristi's grandparents' home where they stayed until 1999 when they took to the mountains and spent five years in Golden, Colorado. In 2004, they moved once again to Hanna, Oklahoma before moving to Seminole, Oklahoma in 2009. In 2015, they moved to Lexington, Nebraska.

Kristi lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. One of the most remarkable traits that defined Kristi was her willingness to help others. She had an innate desire to make a positive impact on people's lives and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She found immense joy in spoiling her children and grandchildren. Her love for them radiated through every action she took. As a dedicated grandmother, she always went the extra mile to ensure her grandchildren felt cherished and celebrated. One of the ways she showed her affection was through her incredible baking skills. Notably skilled as a baker, Kristi loved baking cookies for her family, and she always made sure to have enough for her neighbors. Kristi possessed an incredible talent when it came to gardening. She had quite the green thumb. She loved spending quality time in her garden, working on her flower beds. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Buffalo as well as being a former member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton.&nbsp;She took pride in the achievements of her children and their journeys in life. A mother with unwavering faith in her children's potential, she supported them wholeheartedly throughout every endeavor they pursued.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, John McAuliff of Lexington, Nebraska; daughters, Shannon (Marcus) White of Lexington, and Misty (Greg) Coats of Purcell, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Dylan (Lauren) White of San Antonio, Texas, Austin (Anne Jirak) White of Hope, Kansas, and Melissa White of Kearney, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Hazel White; sisters, Sues (Paul) Rasmussen of Dannebrog, Nebraska and Beth (Brad) Pankoke of Lincoln;&nbsp; brothers, Ben (Nancy) Unick of Pleasanton, and Tim (Kathy) Unick of Gilbert, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Doris McAuliff of Litchfield, and Glenice McAuliff of Ravenna, Marv and Sandy McAuliff of Ravenna, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Besides her parents, Kristi was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa McAuliff and her brothers-in-law, Doug and Warren McAuliff.

The family is honoring Kristi's wish for cremation.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton, Nebraska with Pastor Victor Rasmussen, officiating.&nbsp;

A Private Graveside Service will be held prior to service.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton, Nebraska.

Kristi Kay McAuliff (1949-2023)

Wauneta Jean Allen Keller was born January 13, 1930, to Clarence and Martha (Farris) Allen at the Ulrich place in Brown County. She was one of eleven children.&nbsp; Wauneta graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1950. She married Phil Keller on February 10, 1950, at Springview, NE. To this union six children were born: Jim, Bob, Bonnie, Valeta, Rosiland, and Rhonda.

Phil and Wauneta owned and operated Keller Electric in Ainsworth, NE. Wauneta was the administrative assistant for the company for many years and was proud of the business’ success. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and encouraged her grandkids to participate as well. She loved playing different games with the grandkids and on occasion might have accused one or two of them of cheating to win. Wauneta enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader and also participated in bowling leagues. It brought her great joy to travel to several state tournaments, bringing home hardware to show off her skills.&nbsp; Music was a big part of Wauneta’s life. She played music with her family and provided entertainment for the community as well. She played on the Long Pine Railroad Half Hour show and also traveled to Norfolk and played on the radio at Tom’s music house with her daughters. She played in bands with her brothers and daughters and traveled all over singing for others. Wauneta was involved in the initial stages of bringing the Country Music Festival to Ainsworth. She was hands on with the planning, organizing, and also as a participant. &nbsp;A favorite pastime of Wauneta was being outside enjoying birds and planting flowers. She loved making banana bread and Rice Krispy bars when the grandkids would come to visit. Her favorite was her “lap partner” Daisy Mae. Daisy brought such joy to her life and never left her side in the end.

Wauneta was preceded in death by her son Jim Keller of North Platte, NE and ten siblings: Isabelle Jacobitz, Marvin (Jack) Allen, James Allen, Evelyn Hill, Dorothy Jones, Wayne Allen, Darlene Oakes, Gene Allen, Lester Allen, and Elmer Allen. And son-in-law Marc Bellin.

Those left to cherish her memory are: Son, Robert (Stacia) Keller of Longmont, CO. Daughters: Bonnie Bellin of Johnstown, CO; Valeta Hallsted of Gilchrest, CO, Rosiland (Ros) (Bruce) Beebout of Kearney, NE; and Rhonda Keller (Russ) of Hershey, NE. Daughter in law Barbara Keller and special family friend Felix Soto as well as Daisy Mae and 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 8 great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

An outside memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the home of her daughter, Rhonda Keller, in Hershey, NE. Following the service, the celebration of Wauneta’s life will continue with many of the things that she enjoyed including food, fellowship, music, karaoke, yard games, etc. Memorials may be made to the family in her name for further designation.

Melra Luft, 82, of North Platte passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Melra was born June 11, 1941, to Raymond and Mabel (Thesanvits) Luft in Grand Island, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm outside of Grand Island. He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1959. After high school he went to Milford and graduated as an auto mechanic.

Melra was married to Caroline Enyeart and to this union four children were born. Returning to Grand Island, Melra started the Cycle Shop. During this time, he was also a truck driver. &nbsp;Later he moved the Cycle Shop to Alliance and worked on the railroad for Burlington Northern. &nbsp;Melra had a special love of motorcycles, flat tracking, Sturgis, and driving truck. He was the past president of the Overland Cycle Club. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles and enjoyed his time at the club in North Platte visiting friends. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.

He is survived by sisters, Nadine Iverson and Delyce Knuth; son, Patrick (Carrie) Luft; daughters, Heidi Luft (special friend-Rick Pickenpaugh), and Carmel (Jeff) Lowry; grandchildren, Iana, Austin, Bailey, Casey, Tate, Tyler, Trevor, Jeffrey, Beth, Chaz, Joseph, Dakota, and Stevie; 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mabel Luft; brother, Loel Luft; son, John Luft; grandson, Joseph Buresh; and special friend, Lana Pryke.

Melra (Mel) L. Luft (1941-2023)

Mary Lois (Smith) Roggow, 92, of North Platte, went to be with Jesus her Lord on Sunday, September 3, 2023. She was surrounded by her children, singing hymns and reading scripture as she entered Heaven.&nbsp;

Mary was born September 18, 1930 to Ross Samuel and Florence (Palser) Smith on a farm near Big Springs, NE. She moved with her family to the Smith Homestead south and west of St Paul, NE at age three. She went to Bunker Hill grade school and completed the 9th grade at St. Paul High School. Mary then attended Southwestern Bible Institute in Waxahachie, TX, receiving her High School diploma in 1949. Mary met her husband, Calvin Roggow in Grand Island and attended Kearney State College for one year before their marriage on June 18, 1950 in Grand Island, NE. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June 2020 shortly before Cal’s death on October 2, 2020. Music was a huge part of her life and she played the piano and organ for church for over 60 years. She was generous with her time and talent and loved to mentor young people in developing a love for music and spiritual growth. She was known for her community Bible studies, and involvement in Christian Women’s Club. She impacted many lives with her Biblical wisdom, kindness and hospitality. Mary loved being a grandma and great-grandma. In later years her grandchildren made the effort to bring their children to visit. Not only did she want to know all about their interests, but even more importantly she diligently prayed for them that they might know Jesus and grow in their relationship with him. She was a true Christ follower and prayer warrior.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin, parents Ross and Florence Smith, her brothers Dean, Bernard (Becky) and Don Smith; and her in-laws, Willie and Ione Roggow.&nbsp;

Mary is survived by her her son Lowell (Cheri) of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Carla (Jay) Wardrobe of Gandy, NE; daughter Beth of North Platte; son Brian (Elaine) of Springfield, MO. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.&nbsp;

We were greatly blessed to have had her in our lives for nearly 93 years, her love and prayers will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Carpenter Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM with pastor Ray Corlew officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. &nbsp;

Mary Lois Roggow (1930-2023)

Robert David Gross, age&nbsp;86, of Holbrook, NE, passed away at the Central&nbsp;Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney NE on September 2, 2023.&nbsp;He was born in Ellis, KS on August 29, 1937, to Marcellus and Bertha Gross.&nbsp;&nbsp;Robert graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture High School in Curtis, NE in 1955.&nbsp;&nbsp;On September 27, 1955, he joined the United States Navy.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served as a Naval Sea Bee in the Atlantic Operations Area. Robert was Honorably Discharged September 26, 1961.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Robert returned home to the family farm north of Holbrook.&nbsp;&nbsp;On August 18, 1969, he was united in marriage to Rosietta Gross at Hays, KS at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Robert David Gross (1937-2023)

Linda&nbsp;Niess, the daughter of Allen and Thelma Lien, was born in Bottineau, ND, on September 5, 1948. &nbsp;She went to be with Jesus on September 3, 2023, just shy of her 75th birthday. &nbsp;She had been in failing health for the past few months, struggling with the aftermath of 5 strokes. &nbsp;Linda was tired and told her husband, John, of her prayer asking Jesus to take her home. &nbsp;John very graciously honored Linda's request. &nbsp;She was calm, resting and very much at peace when she left, allowing John to escort her to the last moment of life.

After graduating in 1966 from Jamestown High School in North Dakota, Linda and John were united in marriage on January 4, 1967, at Medina, ND. &nbsp;Since the justice of the peace also owned the local hardware store, that is where they married. &nbsp;Linda and John lived in many different places including Fargo, ND, and eventually North Platte. &nbsp;She enjoyed traveling with John, country line dancing, and camping.

Linda is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Niess of North Platte; their son, Mick Niess (Dawn) of South Dakota; daughter, Yvonne Niess of Florida; grandsons, Sergio Garcia (Lilly) of Sweden, John Garcia (Mady) of Elko, NV, and Christian Garcia (Sidney) of Bountiful, UT; granddaughter, Perla Duenas of Florida; her brothers, Dale Lien of Ocean Shores, WA, and Ken Lien (Toshi) of Spokane, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Thelma Lien; her brother, Allen Rodney Lien; sister, Lonnie Stone; and granddaughter, Monica Garcia.

At Linda's request cremation was chosen and there will not be a funeral or any other type of service. &nbsp;She and John will make one last road trip to her hometown of Jamestown, ND, where her remains will be laid to rest in the family plot at Highland Home Cemetery.

Linda Niess (1948-2023)

Norma Lucile (Johnson) Smith, 94, passed away from age-related causes at Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska, on August 30, 2023.

Norma was born in Cambridge, Nebraska on May 17, 1929, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1946. On November 9, 1947, she married the love of her life – Robert “Bob” Smith. In May 1949, she and Bob moved to a farmstead southeast of Wilsonville, Nebraska, where they resided until retiring to Cambridge, Nebraska in the fall of 1994.

Norma was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives she touched. Cooking for and entertaining her family and friends gave Norma great joy. It never seemed to be a chore for her to prepare a feast for invited guests and any others who would happen to stop by for a visit. Norma was especially well known for the delicious cinnamon twists she baked – which she shared with others, and often donated to local causes. She also loved to sew, crochet, and embroider bedspreads, blankets, and quilts. Times spent “spoiling” her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were moments she especially cherished.

Norma is survived by her son, Roger (Linette) Smith; daughters, Barbara (Darrel) Muehling, and Virginia (Mark) Johnson; brothers, Paul Johnson, Phillip (Barbara) Johnson, and Bruce Johnson; and sisters, Sharon Bellamy, Sondra Foster, and Judith Zabel; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Grace Johnson; father, Claude Johnson; and stepmother, Ada Johnson; husband, Robert Smith; son, Michael Smith; infant daughter, Brenda Smith; grandson, Trevor Smith; sister, Donna Miller; and brother, Carl Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 620 Penn Street, Cambridge, Nebraska, 69022. Pastor Tim Burke will be officiating. A graveside service and interment at Cambridge cemetery will follow the funeral service. A celebration of Norma’s life will take place in the church fellowship hall, following interment. Arrangements for the day are being handled by Lockenour-Jones Mortuary, Cambridge, Nebraska.

Norma (Johnson) Smith (1929-2023)

September 3, 2023 – the day one of the good guys left us. He was a nice, kind, hard-working gentleman.&nbsp;

Norman Beans, 93, of Cozad, Nebraska has passed away. He was born on September 13, 1929 to Guy and Cora (Fouts) Beans in Denver, Colorado. He was the fifth of six children. When Norm was four years old his family moved to a farm near Lexington, Nebraska. Norm graduated from Lexington High School in 1948 and continued farming with the family.&nbsp;

Norm genuinely loved meeting people and getting to know them. Fortunately, he met a young woman named Marilyn Morris at a dance which not only led to a lifelong friendship, but a sixty-seven-year marriage! In the fall of 1957, while living in Cozad, they welcomed their son, Patrick Eugene. The young family moved to a farm near Sumner, Nebraska for a few years, and then found their way back to Cozad, where Norm worked at Monroe Auto in the Tool and Die department. In 1961, they welcomed their daughter, Joan Marie, and the family of four enjoyed and appreciated their community, surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp;

Norm was a man with many interests and talents. Among them … he was a founding member of the Goldenrod Car Club which recently celebrated their 50th anniversary; a charter member of the Elks and a 22-year member of the Cozad Fire department, where he was honored as Fireman of the Year three times. Norm loved sports and was on the Wolves baseball team and coached Little League baseball. He was part of a 4-H livestock judging team, an interest which he passed on to his son. Over the years Norm developed a passion for collecting old cars and going to car shows. It brought him much joy.

Perhaps the thing that stood out the most about Norm was his love for and commitment to his family. Norm was an accomplished ice skater, snow skier, and trampoline jumper. He shared his enthusiasm with his family and patiently taught them the skills needed so they could enjoy family outings and trips for many years.&nbsp;

Norm taught us the importance of being friendly and courteous to all. He never passed up a cup of hot coffee, slice of homemade pie with a scoop of ice cream and some good conversation, usually related to classic cars! &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Wilma and Leonard May, Guy Jr and Arlene, Floyd, Richard and LaVon and Alan. Survived by his wife Marilyn; children and their spouses, Pat and Ellen, and Joan; grandchildren, Winston and Emily Beans, Beau Beans and fiancé Kelcie Vanek, Hannah Vadakin, Jacob Vadakin and significant other Toni Jones; great granddaughter, Sophia Jane Beans; sister-in-laws, Pat Beans, Marge Reed and Lillian Morris. There are also many nieces, nephews, and their families who will cherish memories of outings with Uncle Norm. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorials are suggested to Cozad Fire and Rescue or Cozad United Methodist Church. Services will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Bellarmee Milosi officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Norman Eugene Beans (1929-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; Helena Theresa (Simon) Janousek passed away on September 4, 2023, at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Nebraska, surrounded by her family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Helena was born May 30, 1974, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Kay and Jaynee (Shadley) Simon. &nbsp;Her early childhood was spent in St. Charles, Missouri. &nbsp;At the age of 10, she moved to Trenton, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; January of 1993, she and Troy Horinek had a son, Devin Michael. Helena would later meet the love of her life, Leslie Janousek. &nbsp;They married on April 17, 1999. &nbsp;Their son, Zachary Phillip was born February 2000.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Helena enjoyed watching her boys participate in their various sporting events, but she also supported local athletes of all ages and sports. &nbsp;Whenever she was able, she attended her nieces’ and nephew’s activities with a favorite being her annual dance recital trip. &nbsp;She enjoyed many types of crafting but in recent years she took up crocheting and could often be found working on a blanket for one of her friends or family. &nbsp;Other favorite activities included: &nbsp;gardening, reality tv, racing (local and NASCAR), eating at the Olive Garden, caring for her fur babies and gambling (she was always up for a trip to the casino usually with her Mom). &nbsp;She looked forward to any opportunity to spend time with family but especially loved bike rides with her husband. &nbsp;Her greatest joy was her boys. &nbsp;Whether it was following Zach’s Navy career or seeing Devin start his own business, she was extremely proud of them.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Helena was preceded in death by grandmothers, Donna and Phyllis; grandfathers, Glen and Eldon; mother-in-law Annalea; and uncles Doug and Marcy.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include husband, Les; sons, Devin &amp; Zach; acquired son, Colton; grandfather, Ollie; parents, Jaynee and Jerry and Kay and Sarah; father-in-law, Phillip; sister, Angel (Rodney); brother-in-law, Lance (Kristi); nieces and nephew: Chloe (Vic), Hanna (Jovi), Martina and Tyson; &nbsp;aunts and uncles: David (Lisa), Traci (Mike), Stewart (Pam), Sherie, Donna (Richard), Laurie (Danny); and the Janousek aunts &amp; uncles by marriage; cousins and many dear friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and a rosary will be recited at 4PM on Sunday afternoon, September 10, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton, Nebraska. &nbsp;Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Monday morning, September 11, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton with Father Gary Brethour celebrating. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow services in St. James Cemetery in Trenton.&nbsp;

Helena would later meet the love of her life, Leslie Janousek. &nbsp;They married on April 17, 1999. &nbsp;Their son, Zachary Phillip was born February 2000.&nbsp; &nbsp; Helena enjoyed watching her boys participate in their various sporting events, but she also supported local athletes of all ages and sports. &nbsp;Whenever she was able, she attended her nieces’ and nephew’s activities with a favorite being her annual dance recital trip. &nbsp;She enjoyed many types of crafting but in recent years she took up crocheting and could often be found working on a blanket for one of her friends or family. &nbsp;Other favorite activities included: &nbsp;gardening, reality tv, racing (local and NASCAR), eating at the Olive Garden, caring for her fur babies and gambling (she was always up for a trip to the casino usually with her Mom). &nbsp;She looked forward to any opportunity to spend time with family but especially loved bike rides with her husband. &nbsp;Her greatest joy was her boys. &nbsp;Whether it was following Zach’s Navy career or seeing Devin start his own business, she was extremely proud of them.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Helena was preceded in death by grandmothers, Donna and Phyllis; grandfathers, Glen and Eldon; mother-in-law Annalea; and uncles Doug and Marcy.&nbsp; &nbsp; Survivors include husband, Les; sons, Devin &amp; Zach; acquired son, Colton; grandfather, Ollie; parents, Jaynee and Jerry and Kay and Sarah; father-in-law, Phillip; sister, Angel (Rodney); brother-in-law, Lance (Kristi); nieces and nephew: Chloe (Vic), Hanna (Jovi), Martina and Tyson; &nbsp;aunts and uncles: David (Lisa), Traci (Mike), Stewart (Pam), Sherie, Donna (Richard), Laurie (Danny); and the Janousek aunts &amp; uncles by marriage; cousins and many dear friends.&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and a rosary will be recited at 4PM on Sunday afternoon, September 10, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton, Nebraska. &nbsp;Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Monday morning, September 11, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton with Father Gary Brethour celebrating. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow services in St. James Cemetery in Trenton.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, Dundy County Hospital or McCook Community Hospital Home Healthcare &amp; Hospice. Helena Janousek (1974-2023)

Mildred Lois (Millie) Stagemeyer passed away September 1, 2023, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska at the age of ninety-three.

Millie was born on June 28, 1930, one of three children, born to Ludwig and Anna (Thumm) Rieker in Frontier County, Nebraska. She was baptized on July 7, 1930, and confirmed on April 4, 1944, at St. John Lutheran Church in Eustis, Nebraska. She graduated from Eustis High School in 1948 and began teaching at a rural country school in Frontier County.

Millie married Donald Stagemeyer on July 30, 1950. To this union were born three children: &nbsp;Sharon, Douglas, and Rodney.

Millie served as the Gosper County Deputy Treasurer for several years and as the school Secretary at Elwood Public Schools for 24 years.

As a lifelong member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Elwood, Millie taught Sunday School and Midweek School. She served as an officer for the LWML and for Lutheran Brotherhood and was a coordinator for Thrivent fundraisers.

Millie enjoyed her family, her grandchildren and her many great-grandchildren, playing bridge and other card games. She enjoyed numerous tours around the United States and to Europe with friends and her cousin Evelyn Davis. Millie was an avid gardener and spent many hours caring for her beautiful flowers and faithfully feeding her birds.

After retirement, Millie loved baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and German pretzels to share with residents of the Elwood Care Center, visitors to the Senior Center, neighbors, family, and friends.

Millie suffered a stroke in March 2022 and after her release from the hospital, she made her home at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska. Millie moved to the Elwood Care Center in April 2023 where she lived until present.

Millie is survived by her children; Sharon (Brad) Fong of Woodbury, MN, Doug (Julie) Stagemeyer of Ashland, NE, Rodney (Judy) Stagemeyer of North Platte, NE, 8 grandchildren; Erica Ross, Derek Fong, Matthew (Suzanna) Stagemeyer, Nathan (Amanda) Fong, Pamela Haschke, Ryan (Courtney) Stagemeyer, Cody (Miranda) Stagemeyer and Shelby Stagemeyer, 15 great-grandchildren, her sister; Anita Fagot and her brother; Raymond Rieker, one sister-in-law; Shirley Stagemeyer and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Millie was preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister-in-law; Virginia Rieker, two brothers-in-law; Paul Fagot and Owen Stagemeyer.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Millie’s memory to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour Ministries. Mildred’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood with Pastor Aaron Witt officiating. Private burial will be at Elwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

&nbsp; Longtime Wellfleet/Maywood resident, Kurt Lee Remus passed away at Great Plains Health on September 3, 2023, at age 82.

Kurt was born to Walter and Dortha Remus on the family ranch near Wellfleet on June 25, 1941.&nbsp; He grew up on the farm northeast of Wellfleet and graduated high school from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis.

Kurt farmed and ranched his whole life.&nbsp; He was a director on the Maywood Co-op's Board of Directors from 1986 – 1991.&nbsp; He served as the board's vice chairman from 1991 – 1999 and became chairman of the board in 2000.&nbsp; In 2000, Kurt was an integral part in leading the vote to merge Maywood Co-op and Ag Valley Co-op; the merger became effective October 1, 2000.&nbsp; Kurt retired from the Board of Directors in 2001 after the successful merger between the two Co-ops.
