Steven D. Schwartzkopf, 59, of Ogallala, passed away at home on September 30, 2023.

Steve was born on March 14, 1964, in Torrington, WY, to Daniel &amp; Jeanne Schwartzkopf. Steve was the youngest of 3 children. In 1966, the family moved to Ogallala, Nebraska. Steve attended school in Ogallala and graduated with the Class of 1982.

For many years, Steve helped his father out at the local carpet store, Schwartzkopf's Carpets. He participated in a square dancing club with the rest of the family and some friends. Everyone wanted to dance with "little Steve."

In December of 1986, Steve married Leanne VanCura. They welcomed a daughter, Ashly Marie, on April 7, 1987.

Steve worked different jobs over his lifetime. Pizza Hut was the one he kept going back to. Others included ASC, The Fence Post, Sapp Brothers, Runza, and even Walmart for a short time. He wore many "hats"... but "DAD" was probably his favorite.

On September 9, 1999, Steve purchased a local business, Video Depot. He enjoyed visiting with the community whenever they would come in to rent movies. For 17 years, he was a member of the local Barbershop Chorus. He sang with a few different quartets, singing both tenor and baritone. Steve was a member of many bowling leagues from 1982 until 2013. He also coached High School Bowling and helped the athletes bring a few trophies and awards back to Ogallala.

Throughout Steve's Life, many memories were made. He enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, playing catch, camping, skateboarding, bowling, singing, card playing, and more with his family. Steve often would have fun playing fetch with his grand-pups and made sure anyone who rode with him knew what the "windmill" game was, not to mention your duty as a co-pilot if there were any cows nearby. The phrase "I see the tanks" was also a special memory for him and his extended family.

Steve was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William &amp; Emma Schwartzkopf, and his maternal grandparents, Max &amp; Grace Senteney.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Ashly (Nori) Kinoshita, of Sedgwick, CO; Sisters, Sherri Schwartzkopf and Sue Schwartzkopf, of Julesburg, CO; Mother, Jeanne Schwartzkopf, of Torrington, WY; Father, Daniel Schwartzkopf, of Mitchell, NE; "Adopted" Brother, Neil (Marty) Hennek, of Douglas, WY; many aunts, uncles, cousins, along with several other relatives and friends.

Steven D. Schwartzkopf (1964-2023)

Rhonda Sue (House) Christensen of North Platte peacefully passed away at home on September 30, 2023, at age 76.

Rhonda was born November 13, 1946, to Doris and Paul House in North Platte. &nbsp;She was the middle child between Carmen, the oldest, and younger sister Debera. &nbsp;As a child, Rhonda went on many family vacations with her aunts, uncles and cousins. &nbsp;She was very active in Girl Scouts, her family's church, and was an avid swimmer who went on to give lessons and lifeguard.

During high school, Rhonda participated in Key Club, chorus and band. &nbsp;She graduated from North Platte High School then attended North Platte Community College, Union College and Kearney State College where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in social work.

In 1968, Rhonda married Ron Christensen in Kearney while he was attending college. &nbsp;They went on to have two children, Kelly and Shawn, and were married for 53 years when Ron passed away.&nbsp;

Rhonda worked for the State of Nebraska as a social worker and manager for 25 years. &nbsp;When she retired she was awarded the title of Navy Admiral for the State of Nebraska for her service to individuals and families. &nbsp;She then went to work as director of Rape and Domestic Abuse Agency in North Platte and as a case manager for the Nebraska Children's Home Society. &nbsp;She greatly enjoyed working with birth mothers, adoptive families and children.

Rhonda was a member of the Maxwell Ladies Auxiliary and a women's bible study group at the Bethel E Free Church. &nbsp;She also served on the board of directors that created the Homeless Shelter in North Platte. &nbsp;Rhonda greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and watching Nebraska football games.

Along with her husband, Ron, Rhonda was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and Sid Baker; and parents, Doris and Paul House.

Rhonda is survived by her sister, Debera Jensen of Colorado Springs; daughter, children, Kelly (Scott) Gwartney, of Avon, IN; son, Shawn Christensen, of North Platte; grandchildren, Tyler Christensen, Grace (Austin) Riggans, Simone Gwartney, Liam Gwartney and Tanner Christensen; great-grandchildren, Lainey and Brooks Riggans; sister-in-law, Sharon Christensen, of Sutherland; brother-in-law, Dan Christensen, of North Platte; as well as her beloved cousins and their spouses and many other family members.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, at Plainview Cemetery. &nbsp;The guest book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com or at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. &nbsp;Memorials are to the family for later designation.

Harry was born on April 16th, 1954, in Sterling, Colorado to Herman and Rhoda (Pennington) Neiman. Harry attended school in Sterling, Colorado. When he was 17 years old, he joined The United States Navy. After his discharge, he returned to Sterling, where he met his wife, Elaine (Copenhaver).&nbsp;Harry and Elaine moved to Ogallala, Nebraska, where Harry worked for the Ogallala Livestock until he started his own business, Neiman Well Service. Harry retired in 1999.Harry is preceded in death by his parents. Harry is survived by his wife Elaine, one sister, and one brother. There are no services planned at this time. Harry W. Neiman (1954-2023)

Roger Aden, 93, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 1, 2023 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE. &nbsp;

He was born to Arthur and Hanna Aden in Gothenburg on March 22, 1930 along with his twin brother, Rodney. &nbsp;Roger attended school in the Gothenburg area and was drafted in July of 1951. &nbsp;He served his country in Korea until July of 1953.

Roger married Shirley France, his High School Sweetheart on June 17, 1951. &nbsp;After Roger returned from the service they moved to the Aden Farm/Ranch South of Farnam. &nbsp;His love of farming kept him there until 1988 when he and Shirley returned to Gothenburg and retired shortly after that. &nbsp;During his farming career he served a number of years on the Co-Op boards in Farnam and Gothenburg, on the soil Conservation Board of Frontier County, the School Board , and also the Church Council of American Lutheran Church. &nbsp;He enjoyed his church, family, hunting and fishing.&nbsp;

Survivors include children Kent (Sue) Aden of Cozad, Mary Lou (Dennis) Clark of Gothenburg, Matthew Aden of Farnam, and Michael (Joy) Aden of Littleton, CO. 10 grandchildren - Mandy (Doug) Abbott, Ashley (Jay) Fuller, Jamion (Tasia) Aden, Kaitlyn Clark, Joshua (Jessica) Clark, Scott (Audrey) Aden, Jared (Molly) Aden, Derek (Jordan) Aden, Claire (Ben) Rowland, and Luke Aden. 16 great-grandchildren - Rachel, Tyler, Jayleigh, Katie, Addison, Rugor, Rider, Tanner, Kye, Cole, Collyns, Chelsea, Elliott, Mackenzie, Walker, and soon to arrive baby Clark. Brothers Rodney (Arlene) Aden and Keith (Marcy) Aden both of Gothenburg.&nbsp;

James "Jim" Hassett of North Platte passed away at Great Plains Health on September 29, 2023, at the age of 80.

Jim, the son of Joseph and Beulah Hassett, was born in Salem, OR, on April 8, 1943. &nbsp;He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from St. Paul High School then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1960 to 1964. &nbsp;He helped in the building of the U.S.S. Henry B. Wilson and served on it.

Following his discharge, Jim moved to North Platte where he took a job with the city for 5 years. &nbsp;He then operated Kirby Vacuums and had his own real estate company.

On February 14, 1976, Jim married Shannon Egle and to this union Tiffany was born and Ryan was adopted. &nbsp;The couple later divorced.

Jim was a member of the American Legion. &nbsp;He enjoyed trips to Vegas and spending time with his nephew, Kurt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Jack Hassett; and his sister, Gean Witsteaen.

Survivors include his children, David Hassett, Tiffany (Clayton) Manning of North Platte and Ryan (Heather) Hassett of New Jersey; his sisters, Sue (Clyde) Perkins and Jerry Nunnekamp of Oregon; brother, Howard (Deanna) Hassett of Grand Island; his special friend, Michelle Dircksen of North Platte and her family; six grandchildren; and many other family members.

Graveside service with military honors will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 6, at Ft. James "Jim" Hassett (1943-2023)

Stephen (Steve) David Hecox, age 78 and lifelong resident of Gothenburg, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on April 6, 1945 in Grand Island, NE. &nbsp;He was the middle of three children born to Richard and Esther (Davis) Hecox. &nbsp;He was raised and began his educational career in Gothenburg, and graduated from Brady Public School with the class of 1963. &nbsp;&nbsp;

He joined the Army Reserves in North Platte, then transferred to the Hastings Unit when he pursued an education in carpentry at the Community College in Hastings. &nbsp;His Reserve Unit was deployed to Vietnam, where he proudly served from May of 1968 until he was Honorably Discharged in July of 1969. &nbsp;Steve blessed us with many stories of his adventures in Vietnam, and we are thankful he took pictures and videos to enjoy, too. He was honored to serve in the Army and loved to share his love for the USA!

He married Patricia (Patty) Bacon on December 28, 1969 at Banner United Methodist Church. &nbsp;To this union, four children were born: Bryan Keith, Barbra Kaye, Brooke Kathleen, and Brenda Kit. &nbsp;After the “BK’s” got married, Steve was blessed with two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and seven grandchildren. &nbsp;

Steve spent his professional career in construction/carpentry, the hay business, farming, and driving trucks for Nebraska Salt &amp; Grain and Paulsen’s, Inc. &nbsp;Health reasons forced him to retire in 2015. Since then, he enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle and in his Corvettes, and relaxing in the big yellow house south of town.&nbsp;

Steve was a Master Mason, and due to his involvement with this fraternal organization in the 1980s, he was awarded Nebraska’s highest civic honor when the Governor named him Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska; Past Bethel Associate Guardian for Job’s Daughters; Antelope Livestock 4-H leader and council member for Dawson County 4-H; and a member of the following groups: Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department, Order of the Eastern Star, NRA, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Honor Guard. &nbsp;He was a lifelong member of Banner United Methodist Church. &nbsp;

Steve is survived by his children, Bryan (Michelle) Hecox of rural Brady, Barb (Jason) Jones of Omaha, and Brenda (Andy) Cochran of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn &amp; Kamron Hecox, Lauren &amp; Alex Jones, and Braden, Aubree, &amp; Carlyn Cochran; brother Dick (Connie) Hecox of Brighton, CO and sister Penny (Bill) Fattig of rural Gothenburg; many nieces and nephews; the Bacon Family who always included Steve in family events; and lifelong friends, especially those in the Banner Community. &nbsp;

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Brooke, and ex-wife Patty.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Services will be held at Banner Church, October 5, 2023 at 10:30 am with Pastors Janie Freeman and Robert Litzenberger officiating. The family invites you to wear red, white, and blue or military-themed clothing to honor Steve’s military service and love for his country.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial, with military honors, will be in the Peckham Cemetery following the church service.

 </figure>Stephen (Steve) David Hecox, age 78 and lifelong resident of Gothenburg, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on April 6, 1945 in Grand Island, NE. &nbsp;He was the middle of three children born to Richard and Esther (Davis) Hecox. &nbsp;He was raised and began his educational career in Gothenburg, and graduated from Brady Public School with the class of 1963. &nbsp;&nbsp;He joined the Army Reserves in North Platte, then transferred to the Hastings Unit when he pursued an education in carpentry at the Community College in Hastings. &nbsp;His Reserve Unit was deployed to Vietnam, where he proudly served from May of 1968 until he was Honorably Discharged in July of 1969. &nbsp;Steve blessed us with many stories of his adventures in Vietnam, and we are thankful he took pictures and videos to enjoy, too. He was honored to serve in the Army and loved to share his love for the USA!He married Patricia (Patty) Bacon on December 28, 1969 at Banner United Methodist Church. &nbsp;To this union, four children were born: Bryan Keith, Barbra Kaye, Brooke Kathleen, and Brenda Kit. &nbsp;After the “BK’s” got married, Steve was blessed with two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and seven grandchildren. &nbsp;Steve spent his professional career in construction/carpentry, the hay business, farming, and driving trucks for Nebraska Salt &amp; Grain and Paulsen’s, Inc. &nbsp;Health reasons forced him to retire in 2015. Since then, he enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle and in his Corvettes, and relaxing in the big yellow house south of town.&nbsp;Steve was a Master Mason, and due to his involvement with this fraternal organization in the 1980s, he was awarded Nebraska’s highest civic honor when the Governor named him Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska; Past Bethel Associate Guardian for Job’s Daughters; Antelope Livestock 4-H leader and council member for Dawson County 4-H; and a member of the following groups: Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department, Order of the Eastern Star, NRA, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Honor Guard. &nbsp;He was a lifelong member of Banner United Methodist Church. &nbsp;Steve is survived by his children, Bryan (Michelle) Hecox of rural Brady, Barb (Jason) Jones of Omaha, and Brenda (Andy) Cochran of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn &amp; Kamron Hecox, Lauren &amp; Alex Jones, and Braden, Aubree, &amp; Carlyn Cochran; brother Dick (Connie) Hecox of Brighton, CO and sister Penny (Bill) Fattig of rural Gothenburg; many nieces and nephews; the Bacon Family who always included Steve in family events; and lifelong friends, especially those in the Banner Community. &nbsp;Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Brooke, and ex-wife Patty.Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.Services will be held at Banner Church, October 5, 2023 at 10:30 am with Pastors Janie Freeman and Robert Litzenberger officiating. Stephen "Steve" Hecox (1945-2023)

Kenneth L. Baker, 65, of North Platte, Nebraska, died September 27, 2023 in North Platte, Nebraska.

Kenneth was born March 3, 1958 in Grand Island, NE, son of Roland Baker and Lavonne (Strong) Baker.&nbsp;

Kenneth grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder. Growing up he would spend summers with his grandparents in Gothenburg and it was in Gothenburg where he met and later married Lois Ostendorf on June 9, 1979, and to this union three daughters were born.

Kenneth worked at several different jobs including an implement parts man, but his heart was in driving truck. He later met and married Mindi Miles on February 9, 2019 and was completely welcomed into her family.&nbsp;After some health issues arose, he had to give up his dream job of driving truck. He then found a new outlet in the Guardians of the Children, and became very involved with this group, Kenneth loved being able to spend time with them. He also loved fishing and was a fisherman with all the great tales.&nbsp;Survivors include wife, Mindi of North Platte, daughters, Lynnette (Brent) Atkinson of Gothenburg, Heather (Nick) Barnes of Gothenburg, and Melissa (Jake) Baal of Cozad, stepson Leighton Miles of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Cole and Cade Atkinson of Gothenburg, Morgan, Hattie, and Rowdy Barnes of Gothenburg, and Ella and Brantley Baal of Cozad, mother, Lavonne of Colby, KS; two sisters, Lynn Baker of Longmont, CO and Jeri (Todd) Jacobs of Dresden, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Kenneth Baker (1958-2023)

Billye Kathryn Lockhart-Deck, age 88, of Trenton, NE passed away on September 28, 2023 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton.

Billye was born on the 1st day of Spring, March 21, 1935 to Verna (Gallentine) and Edgar Lockhart in Norcatur, KS. As a young woman, Billye enjoyed horses and playing the piano, starting a lifelong love of playing music. Billye lost the ability to hear in 1951 following an illness. In 1952, Billye graduated from high school in Lebanon, NE

The union in 1952 to her high school sweetheart, Duane Purcell, produced four children: Debra, Michael, Teresa and Sandra. Billye was so adept at lip reading that she often worked as a waitress in her lifetime.

In 1968, Billye and Ralph Goreham Sr. were wed in McCook, NE. They raised Billye’s children together between Nebraska and New Mexico. “Billye Jo”, as many called her, was always up for a game of crazy cards, Cornhusker football or her beloved Connie Mack World Series Baseball from the back porch swing.

In 1989, Billye married the love of her life, Delbert D. Deck in which she gained three sons: Gary, Marty and John. Billye and Delbert made their home first in Aztec and then in Farmington, New Mexico for many decades, sharing a mutual love and respect of the desert, four corners and native culture. You could often find Delbert dancing Billye through the house or Billye checking the contents of a rock hunting expedition Delbert had returned from.

Many children passed through the doors of 1200 North Carlton in the three decades they ran a daycare, many 2nd generation and a couple 3rd generation. Their love of children was so apparent. Delbert took care of his sweetheart for many years after she showed signs of dementia and Alzheimer’s. He did so until his passing in March 2020. He loved his girl even long after she didn’t know him. Billye returned to Nebraska in 2020.

Billye LOVED her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and many friends, meaning something different to each one of us who held her heart.

Billye was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elwood, Victor and Donald; sisters, Beth Ann, Betty Hare and Betty During; daughter, Retired Master Sargeant Debra Stretch; and grandson, Jason Frye SFC, United States Army.

Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Mike (Jackie) Purcell of Myrtle Beach, SC, Teresa (David) Hartman of Omaha, NE, Sandra (Robert) Scott, Sr. of Trenton, NE, Gary Deck of Farmington, NM, Marty Deck and John Deck, both of Yakima, WA; brother, Harwood “Hoppy” Lockhart of Norton, KS; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Frye, Christy (Shane) Stevens, Teresa (Don) Flesner, Jason (Elizabeth) Hartman, Kyle (Katelyn) Hartman, Nicholas (Anabel) Gatherings, Austin (Nicole) Scott, Robert Scott, Jr. and Trina Plummer; thirty one great grandchildren and a host of friends.

On September 28, 2023, after seven decades of total silence, Billye Jo heard the angels sing!

Billye Kathryn Deck (1935-2023)

Eric Paul VanOverbeke died on September 28, 2023, at the age of 50. He was born and raised in Gothenburg, Nebraska. He graduated from Gothenburg High School and attended Central Community College.

Eric trained as a landscaper and gardener, and was happy when working outside, building landscapes and berms for family and others, and planting trees and shrubs. As a kid, he started collecting Coca-Cola products, and over the past decades amassed a sizable collection that included toy cars, plates and bottles, puzzles, and games. Eric loved playing card games and could be quite competitive, even sometimes creating new rules to win (at least that’s what his brothers thought). Even through multiple illnesses and challenges, he tried to retain a sense of humor (better than most of us ever could). His pride and joy was his daughter, Abby, who brought him great happiness and joy.

Eric is survived by his daughter, Abbygail Elizbeth; his mother, Carol; his brothers, Jon (Jill) and Marc (John Smagner); and a nephew, Thomas Alexander. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis, and his grandparents.

Register Book Signing will be Thursday, October 5, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with the family. Burial will be private.

Eric VanOverbeke (1973-2023)

Delores Lake, 93, of Oshkosh passed away on September 28, 2023 at Regional West Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 2, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Oshkosh with Father Michael McDonald and Deacon Dixon Powers officiating. Interment will be held at Antelope Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 3:00pm - 5:00 pm Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth’s with a Rosary Service to be held at 5:00 p.m.

Delores Katherine Krajewski was born April 30, 1930 in Brule, Nebraska to Katherine (Lubash) and Ed Krajewski. She joined older brothers Alvin and Alfred (Fritz) and was later joined by a younger sister, Lorene (Leeper) and brother Richard.

Delores grew up on farms and ranches in Keith County, Nebraska. The family moved to the Antelope Valley community north of Oshkosh in 1948 where she met "the boy next door," Dean Lake. She always said she "won the lottery" when she met him. Dean and Delores were married on August 22, 1950 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Oshkosh and recently celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Dean and Delores built a life based on hard work, family, and their faith. She was very proud of her home, her children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her chickens, playing pitch, going to garage sales, gambling trips with her daughter Deb, playing pool with her grandchildren, and taking care of people. &nbsp;&nbsp;Delores and Dean enjoyed many fishing trips to Island Lake and Lake McConaughy.&nbsp; She was a good cook and entered and won the Nebraska Beef Cook-Off one year.

Delores was a very hard-working person and taught her children to be the same. She always thought of others first and enjoyed giving gifts for any occasion. She loved giving her fresh homemade bread to visitors, neighbors and her many nieces and nephews. She was a very loving and kind mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by all.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers Alvin "Curly" Krajewski, Alfred "Fritz" (Rita Schmidt) Kraski, and Richard (Mary Lou) Krajewski, her sister and brother-in-law Lorene and Budd Leeper, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Virgil Ring.

She is survived by her husband, Dean, her four children: Ron (Betsy) Lake of Palisades, Washington, Patricia (Allen) Peters of Minatare, John (Elaine) Lake of Oshkosh, and Deb (Bruce) Conklin of Scottsbluff, Five granddaughters: Lisa Lake of Bothell, Washington, Kathy Peters of Scottsbluff, Shelley (Trevor) Votruba of Gretna, Jenna (Randy) Ross of Lewellen, and Celean (Zach) Eckert of Hastings. Delores Lake (1930-2023)

Gary Dean Leibhart, 82, of North Platte, passed away September 27, 2023 at Great Plains Health surrounded by his family. He was born October 4, 1940 to June and Ilene (Hammans) Leibhart at Callaway, Nebraska where he was raised.

Gary Graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1958. In 1959, Gary hired on at Colorado Southern Railroad as a depot agent in Berthoud, CO and this is where he met his future wife, Josephine Ramos. On April 25, 1960, Gary married Josephine at Longmont, Colorado and was blessed with four children: Gerald, Loretta, Sandra, and Teresa.

Gary hired out at Union Pacific Railroad as a Telegrapher in 1960 and continued working for the railroad as a Train Dispatcher at Harriman Dispatch Center in Omaha. Due to health issues, Gary retired in 1995 with 37 years of service.

Gary loved nothing more than to simply spend time with his children, grandchildren, and most of all his great grandchildren, who could do nothing wrong in his eyes. He loved telling stories, teasing, and going to their sporting events.

Gary also remained close to his classmates and loved attending his class reunions. The memories they have will never be forgotten and neither will their laughter.

Gary enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball and the Huskers play football. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Texas Hold’em with family and friends. He also enjoyed shooting pool and was a member of the Eagles Club #2839.

Gary will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a special place in his heart for all his family and friends.

He was born October 4, 1940 to June and Ilene (Hammans) Leibhart at Callaway, Nebraska where he was raised.Gary Graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1958. In 1959, Gary hired on at Colorado Southern Railroad as a depot agent in Berthoud, CO and this is where he met his future wife, Josephine Ramos. On April 25, 1960, Gary married Josephine at Longmont, Colorado and was blessed with four children: Gerald, Loretta, Sandra, and Teresa.Gary hired out at Union Pacific Railroad as a Telegrapher in 1960 and continued working for the railroad as a Train Dispatcher at Harriman Dispatch Center in Omaha. Due to health issues, Gary retired in 1995 with 37 years of service.Gary loved nothing more than to simply spend time with his children, grandchildren, and most of all his great grandchildren, who could do nothing wrong in his eyes. He loved telling stories, teasing, and going to their sporting events.Gary also remained close to his classmates and loved attending his class reunions. &nbsp; David Ronald "Dave" Bratton, Sr. of North Platte passed away at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg on September 27, 2023, at the age of 80. Dave was born August 11, 1943, to Albert and Cora Bratton at Mulberry, AR.&nbsp; He grew up between Mulberry and Kansas City, KS, and attended Wyndotte High School.&nbsp; He then enlisted into the U.S. Army in March 1961and served until March 1964. Following his discharge, Dave worked various jobs which took him to different states.&nbsp; He returned to Kansas City and hired on with the Union Pacific Fruit Express then was transferred to North Platte in 1983.&nbsp; He worked for the railroad until retirement. Dave was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.&nbsp; He was also active in the Civil Air Patrol in both Kansas City and North Platte.&nbsp; Dave will always be remembered as an avid fan of "beer thirty". He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Daniel and wife, Dee; his brother, Albert; sister, Ijuana and husband Mac Baber; and his son, Albert. &nbsp; Sharon Bennett, 84, of Orlando, Florida, died peacefully in her home in Orlando, Florida on September 13, 2023. She was born February 17, 1939 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Edmond and Dorothy C. Aden. &nbsp;Sharon grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1957. &nbsp;Shortly thereafter she moved to Denver, Colorado and became a flight attendant for Frontier Airlines. &nbsp;In 1962 she returned to Gothenburg where she married and gave birth to Jeffrey Scott and Suzanne Leigh Tinlin. &nbsp;She remained in Gothenburg until 1980.&nbsp; Throughout her life, Sharon was a very talented artist and musician. She was active in the American Lutheran Church her entire life while in Gothenburg, and served as an organist for the church for many years. She also opened and ran three craft businesses in Gothenburg centered around her love for floral design and painting. In 1981 she moved back to Denver where she created, and opened, the Academy of Floral Design. This program was the first of its kind in the nation - a nationally accredited floral design college. She ran this school for 10 years. &nbsp;During the late 1980’s, she met her current husband, Neville Bennett and moved to Florida where she continued to teach various art forms to students in the Orlando area where she resided until her passing. Her classes and art forms included stained glass, pottery and a unique form of painting known as Oriental Brush Painting. Her love for art was only surpassed by her gift for teaching and inspiring the many students that she embraced over her 30 plus years in that endeavor. &nbsp; Sharon is survived by her husband Neville H. Sharon Bennett (1939-2023)

&nbsp;Joyce Elaine Bernard died September 26th, 2023. She had celebrated her 29th birthday 59 times!! She was the first of four children born to Merle (Bus) and Alta (Von Stade) Dart of Enders, NE on December 26th, 1934. She was later joined by three brothers, Gerald, Keith and Ron. Joyce graduated from Chase County High School in 1952 and married the love of her life, Jess Bernard, on August 10, 1952. They lived for a short time in North Platte before returning to the family farm south of Imperial, NE. In 1956 they welcomed the birth of Janet Elizabeth.

Joyce and Jess were inseparable, working on the farm together and doing fun things with their friends. Special friends were Burdette and Lucille Bauerle, Richard and Jeannie Johnson, Ray and Doris Baldwin, Bernard and Sandra Nelson and Don and Pau- line Grosbach.

Joyce didn’t know a stranger, and took special delight in welcoming new people to town. She loved hosting friends in her home. She was a master seamstress, cook and artist. She and Jess remodeled two homes, improving each. Joyce was in charge of the planning, Jess in the execution!

&nbsp;In their later years, as health started to fail, they moved to North Platte, where Jess died in 2020. Joyce continued living in her cottage at Linden Estates and made many new and dear friends there, especially Judi, Phyllis, Kathy, Joan, Virginia and Sandy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bus and Alta Dart, brothers Keith Dart and Gerald Dart, sister-in-law Eula Hill Dart and nephew Jerry Dart. She especially grieved the loss of her husband, Jess.

&nbsp;She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Dr Janet and Rob Evans, and Ashli and Jayden Maris; Grandsons and granddaughters Jason Evans, David and Sarah Bernard-Stevens, Matt and Shayda Bernard-Stevens, Kobe, Braxtyn, Gavyn and Anna Maris, great granddaughter Armina and beloved grand dog Charlie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Glenda Dart, brother and wife Ron and Connie Dart; and beloved nephews and wives John and Shelley Dart, Mike and Melissa Dart, Kevin and Janice Dart and Monte and Jennifer Dart and special niece Janet Schowalter.

The family would like to thank all her dear friends and neighbors, and the staff at the Lindens for doing everything possible to enrich her life. In keeping with her lifelong mission of hospitality, memorials will be given to Hope Esperanza, a foundation based in North Platte whose mission is to welcome new folks to our area, and help them in getting settled.

Joyce Elaine Bernard (1934-2023)

Virginia Sullivan age 89 of Mullen, passed away September 26, 2023, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.

Funeral Services for Virginia Sullivan will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10:30 am MT at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mullen. A Rosary will be held on Friday, September 29th at 7:00 pm at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mullen. The burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Thedford, NE. Aleita Virginia Boren was born December 22, 1933, to Cornelious Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Wyatt) Boren in Halsey, Nebraska. &nbsp;She was the 6th of 8 children. &nbsp;She attended school at the Halsey Schools, graduating in 1952. She was love, light, laughter, and encouragement. Virginia faced so many challenges and never realized how many lives she made better. Virginia passed away at Great Plains Medical Center on September 26th at the age of 89. &nbsp;

Virginia was hardworking from an early age and throughout her life. Her first job was babysitting for two children when she was 9 years old in Bremerton, Washington while parents worked in the shipyards during World War II. At age 12 she went to work washing dishes at the Halsey Cafe and later waited tables. &nbsp;In high school and a couple of years after marriage she worked in the nursery at the Halsey National Forest. &nbsp;Virginia married Don Sullivan in Mullen on June 16th, 1952, and had four children - David, Mary Ann, Donalee and Dennis.&nbsp;

Virginia’s true calling in life was caring for people. &nbsp;She applied for a job at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home when it was being built and started working before the doors were open for residents. &nbsp;Following her divorce, she worked several years as an aide before taking a year to become a Licensed Practical Nurse through the program in Kearney. She balanced kids, college, and every weekend she traveled home to work shifts at the nursing home. &nbsp; Her career at the nursing home was over 47 years and in that time, she also worked at the Mullen Clinic and Mullen Hospital. &nbsp;In her nursing career she was known for the compassion and respect she had for her patients and families.&nbsp;

Virginia loved to garden, work in her yard, crochet, and bake. She was an MHS fan of the year when her grandchildren were in high school. She loved surprising people with an unexpected kindness which could range anywhere from “My, you look beautiful today.” to an anonymous cash donation to someone in need. Her family can attest to her memorable sense of humor. &nbsp;She loved all her family but in most recent years delighted in the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Mary Boren, siblings Jesse and wife Kathy, Robert, Minnie and husband, Ken Troth, Laurella and husband, Jim McHugh, Mary Lea and husband, Alvin Standlea, and sister Bessie, son-in-law, Marv Carlock and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

An online guest book may be signed at www.govierbrothers.com. &nbsp;Aleita Virginia Boren was born December 22, 1933, to Cornelious Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Wyatt) Boren in Halsey, Nebraska. &nbsp;She was the 6th of 8 children. &nbsp;She attended school at the Halsey Schools, graduating in 1952. She was love, light, laughter, and encouragement. Virginia faced so many challenges and never realized how many lives she made better. Virginia passed away at Great Plains Medical Center on September 26th at the age of 89. &nbsp;Virginia was hardworking from an early age and throughout her life. Her first job was babysitting for two children when she was 9 years old in Bremerton, Washington while parents worked in the shipyards during World War II. At age 12 she went to work washing dishes at the Halsey Cafe and later waited tables. &nbsp;In high school and a couple of years after marriage she worked in the nursery at the Halsey National Forest. &nbsp;Virginia married Don Sullivan in Mullen on June 16th, 1952, and had four children - David, Mary Ann, Donalee and Dennis.&nbsp;Virginia’s true calling in life was caring for people. &nbsp;She applied for a job at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home when it was being built and started working before the doors were open for residents. &nbsp;Following her divorce, she worked several years as an aide before taking a year to become a Licensed Practical Nurse through the program in Kearney. She balanced kids, college, and every weekend she traveled home to work shifts at the nursing home. &nbsp; Her career at the nursing home was over 47 years and in that time, she also worked at the Mullen Clinic and Mullen Hospital. &nbsp;In her nursing career she was known for the compassion and respect she had for her patients and families.&nbsp;Virginia loved to garden, work in her yard, crochet, and bake. She was an MHS fan of the year when her grandchildren were in high school. She loved surprising people with an unexpected kindness which could range anywhere from “My, you look beautiful today.” to an anonymous cash donation to someone in need. Her family can attest to her memorable sense of humor. &nbsp;She loved all her family but in most recent years delighted in the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Mary Boren, siblings Jesse and wife Kathy, Robert, Minnie and husband, Ken Troth, Laurella and husband, Jim McHugh, Mary Lea and husband, Alvin Standlea, and sister Bessie, son-in-law, Marv Carlock and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;Left to share memories of her are children and families - David and Catherine Sullivan, Alana, Patrick, Melissa, Kaylen, Carter, and Calvin, Donalee and Bill Barner, Trevor and Kaylee Barner, Roarke and Ramsey, Cami and Eddie O’Brien, John and Sully, Mary Ann Carlock, and Dennis and Denise Sullivan and Brodie. &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne Lilace Thompson Brown was born April 8, 1938 to Carl and Verda (Williams) Thompson in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; She died at the age of 85 on September 25, 2023 in North Platte after a long battle with Alzheimers. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne grew up in North Platte, Nebraska alongside her sister, Nancy.&nbsp; When the girls were young, they loved to dress the dogs, Twinkle and Blondie, up in doll clothes and pull them around in their wagons.&nbsp; During her early teen years, Loewayne played softball on the Eagle Teeners team and was an avid player.&nbsp; She passed her love of the sport on to her sons. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Loewayne attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Adams Jr. High, and North Platte Senior High.&nbsp; On October 28, 1953, she married Billy J. Loewayne Lilace Thompson Brown  (1938-2023)

Chyrel Diane (Morgan) Cerny passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023 in Callaway, Nebraska at the Good Life Center.&nbsp; Many friends said their final goodbyes over the weekend as we cheered for her beloved Huskers to win.

She was born on February 8, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska and placed for adoption with the Nebraska Children's Home.&nbsp; At four months old, she was legally adopted by Rolland and Naomi Morgan, nee Thomas.&nbsp; She was welcomed into the family by an adopted older brother, Ray.&nbsp; Chyrel attended elementary school in Loup City and Bloomfield.&nbsp; The family moved to Rushville when Chyrel was in the 8th grade.&nbsp; On June 17, 1965, Chyrel married Dell Cerny.&nbsp; They made their home in Gordon, Nebraska.&nbsp; While in Gordon, two daughters, Barbara and Marcia, were born.&nbsp; In 1974, Chyrel and Dell moved to Arnold, Nebraska.&nbsp; Chyrel was proud to live in Custer county where her adoptive family had homesteaded and farmed.&nbsp; She was even more proud to live near the Custer County Farm that her grandparents had managed before her arrival.

Chyrel enjoyed babysitting many local children through the years and loved baking cookies for them.&nbsp; In 1978, Chyrel gave birth to a third daughter, Jo Dee.&nbsp; In 1979, Chyrel and Dell purchased the Triangle Lanes Bowling Alley.&nbsp; Chyrell spent her evenings working at the snack bar and even learned to bowl a decent game.&nbsp; Chyrel loved to drink iced tea and visit with friends.&nbsp; No one had a softer heart than Chyrel.&nbsp; She didn't have a mean bone n her body.&nbsp; Although she probably teased people a littel too much and was pretty outspoken all the time, she loved people.&nbsp; She loved making people smile.&nbsp; Chyrel loved going along for the ride with Dell.&nbsp; They enjoyed camping, traveling on the motorcycle, and driving their classic cars to shows and dinner runs.&nbsp; But mostly, she enjoyed going to see family and friends.&nbsp; Chyrel like to play card games and felt it a great joy when her great grandkids would ask her to play.&nbsp; Chyrel was a part of the Charming Chicks Club in Arnold and a Women's Fireman's Auxiliary in North Platte.&nbsp; She proudly helped serve in duties that were part of Dell's job and appointments throughout her career.

In 1988, Chyrel found a biological sister, Judy Mamot, on her mother's side.&nbsp; In 2021, another sister was found on her father's side.&nbsp; Chyrel crammed a lot of lost years into building a relationship with her sister, Sherlene.&nbsp; She loved hearing how much she looked and acted like her father.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Chyrel is preceded in death by her adoptive parents and brother; her birth mother, Dorothy Fleshman Ewers; two baby sisters; her birth father, William D. Bush; a half-brother, William (Billy) Bush, Jr; her youngest daughter, Jo Dee Hastings; and two granddaughters, LynDee and Paiton Hastings.

She is survived by her husband, Dell; sisters Sherlene (Robert) Stolley and Judy Mamot; daughters, Barbara (Michael) Gunther and Marcia (Scott) Gibson; grandchildren, Kayli (PJ) Hamburger, Britanny (Chris) Lehman, Shandell (Derick) Shelton, Tyann (Jacob) Pfisthner, and Jonathan Hastings; as well as nine great grandchildren, hadley, Hendryx, Hayden, Rex, Eirik, Ryatt, Christian, Rogen, and Anders; and three honorary grandchildren, Shayla, Isaac, and Jamie Tickle.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Central time at the Arnold United Methodist Church with Pastor Lana Day and Pastor Bill Williams officiating.&nbsp; The service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

The family requests to wear Husker Red for the service in honor of Chyrel's favorite team.

Chyrel Diane Cerny  (1947-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth Ernestine (Trute) Tripple, age 88, of Gering, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Heritage Estates in Gering.&nbsp; Ruth was born on March 9, 1935 in Yuma, Colorado to Ernest and Frieda (Goeglein) Trute.&nbsp; She was the second of three children.&nbsp; She received her schooling in Yuma, Colorado until they moved to Gering, Nebraska her senior year, and that is where she met her future husband, Don Tripple.&nbsp; She married Don on August 14, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth was a wonderful homemaker and life-long mate and partner to her husband, Don.&nbsp; She was an active farm wife and always there to help in any way needed.&nbsp; She enjoyed raising her vegetable gardens, canning the produce, was an excellent seamstress, and made the wedding dresses for her two daughters and daughter-in-law.&nbsp; One of Ruth's fondest memories was of her and Don raising sheep; she loved lambing season and always had a special touch with animals.&nbsp; Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a good friend to many.&nbsp; Ruth loved her Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for 57 years. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth is survived by her daughter, Nance (David) Sizemore of Colo, Iowa; son, Mike (Annita) Tripple of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and daughter, Connie (Jerry) Harms of Gering, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was blessed with five grandchildren: Kelli (Tyson) Harper, Mindi (Darrell) Woolsey, David Ray Sizemore, Joseph (Bri) Sizemore, and Dillon (Emily) Tripple; and eight great-grandchildren: Luke, Leah and Lacy Harper, Liam, Landon and Easton Woolsey, Julian Sizemore, and Jaxsen Tripple.&nbsp; She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Knapp of North Platte, Nebraska and brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Barbara Trute of Yuma, Colorado; as well as many nieces and nephews. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Don Tripple (2019); her parents, Ernest &amp; Frieda Trute; in-laws, Fred &amp; Mollie Tripple; infant son, Jacob; and brother-in-law, Duane Kanpp. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in the knowledge that Ruth is safe in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.&nbsp; The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heritage Estates and Regional West Hospice for their love and care of Ruth. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A Funeral Service for Ruth will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Mountain time at Faith Lutheran Church in Gering, Nebraska with Reverend Richard Neugebauer officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Memorials may be given to the family for designation at a later date.&nbsp; Fond memories and messages of sympathy may be left for the family at www.geringchapel.com.

Waylon Carpenter  (1974-2023)

F. Elizabeth (Statz) Woodside departed this life on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 98. Elizabeth was born to William and Hazel (Adamson) Statz at the family home in Nelson, Nebraska, on August 7, 1925. However, the doctor did not sign the birth certificate until August 10th, which then became her official birthdate. This made for much confusion when asked when her birthday was.

Elizabeth graduated from Nelson High School in 1943. She attended Hastings College and received her teaching certificate. She taught two years at a small country school in the Nelson area, and then moved to Cozad, Nebraska in 1946 to teach sixth grade. Her future father-in-law, Ray Woodside, was the first person to greet her in Cozad. For three of the years she taught in Cozad, she boarded a room at Ray and Martha Woodside’s home. She later taught in North Platte and Scottsbluff, before returning to Cozad to marry Harlan Woodside on June 15, 1952.

Elizabeth was baptized and confirmed at the Nelson Christian Church. Church was always an important facet of Elizabeth’s life. She because a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church (which later became Parkview United Methodist Church) after her marriage. She was active in the life of the church by teaching nursery school for 8 years, serving as lay leader, and serving in different capacities with the United Methodist Women. Elizabeth created banners and bulletin boards displayed and enjoyed by church members.

Family life was important to Elizabeth. Harlan was the love of her life, and this union was blessed with children Patsy, John, Steven, and Susan. She created a loving home and filled her days with her excellent cooking, sewing, gardening, and canning. She loved attending her children’s activities and supporting them.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Her father was killed by lightning when Elizabeth was 12, and her mother was left to raise the children and run the family farm. Elizabeth came by her strength naturally. Elizabeth continued to live in the family home after Harlan’s death until her death. Tragedy struck on September 7, 2023, when daughter Patsy Ann died in her Omaha home.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children John (Lisa) Woodside of Salem, South Carolina; Steven (Joni) Woodside of Columbus, Nebraska; and Susan Woodside (Clay Stonestreet) of Cozad, Nebraska. She is loved and missed by her grandchildren Darren (Jennifer) Woodside of Niceville, Florida; Matthew Pella (fiancé Cidney Hemingway); Chelsey (Brandon) Jacobitz of Holstein, Nebraska; Dustin (Sarah) Woodside of San Antonio, Texas; Zachary Pella of Denver, Colorado; Renae Pella (fiancé Franklin Magana) of Denver, Colorado; and Christina Woodside of Columbus, Nebraska. She was blessed with great grandchildren Grayson and Harlyn Pella, Hope and Hannah Woodside, and Conrad and Reese Woodside; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Elizabeth lived a full life and enjoyed visiting with people. She loved her coffee, cappuccino, and strawberry shakes. Pies were a specialty of hers, which is something she shared with her mother. Family get-togethers were never complete without her delicious potato salad. In these later years, she would say “those were the days, my friend.” She touched many lives through her teaching and church work, and we have been blessed to be a part of her life.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ixcel Lopez, of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away suddenly at the young age of two on September 24, 2023, at The Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was born on March 16, 2021, in Kearney, Nebraska to Leodegario Lopez and Maria Lopez. She was a sweet little girl with a heart full of kindness and brought immense happiness to her family. She would wake up each morning craving ice cream. Showing mom her bright smile, she couldn't resist giving her at least a little bite to start her day. Ixcel had an unyielding love for fruits, especially strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, and grapes. She was such a friendly girl, she loved waving at everyone who would pass by her. One of Ixcel's greatest joys in life was spending time with her cousins, creating fun lasting memories. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Johnny, Johnny and Baby Shark were some of Ixcel's favorite songs. She loved having her mom sing along with her. Ixcel loved taking baths and would often take three or four every day just to get a chance to play in the water. She loved getting to spend quality time with her dad and loved him so much. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Ixcel liked to be mischievous at times and would write on the walls of her house and even her grandparents' house! Though it sometimes meant a bit of messiness for her family, they cherished every mark left behind. Stuffed animals and stickers were among Ixcel's favorite toys. Her favorite thing to do was to dance! She could dance for hours to her favorite music. As a big sister to her little brother, Ixcel embraced the role with boundless love and care. She loved being an older sister and liked to play little pranks on her baby brother by hiding his pacifier or sneaking off with his milk bottles. Ixcel Lopez  (2021-2023)

Susan Gayle Allen, 77, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington.

She was born on August 10, 1946, in Lexington, Nebraska to Thomas and Phyllis (Sawin) Strohmyer. She attended rural, city and St. Ann's Catholic school. On October 10, 1962, Susan was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert William Allen at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this union: Tracy, Charlene, and Chad. Robert and Susan dedicated 25 years to fostering 265 children. This included children from the State of Nebraska Wards, the Dawson County Wards, and the Foster Parent of Central Nebraska Wards. Susan began working as a contract provider for the State of Nebraska Childcare Chore and Family Support Services beginning in 1984. She then moved on to working for social services with the State of Nebraska from 1997 until her retirement in 2016.

Susan was an incredibly active member in her community. She was a Boy Scouts mother as well as a member of the VFW Auxiliary 5136. She served on the first State of Nebraska Foster Care Review Board and the first Dawson County Parent Child Center Board. She served on the Lexington Childcare Center Board and the Dawson Gosper County Foster Parent Association. She also helped introduce the Special Olympics in the Lexington Public School system. She received Mother of the Year in 1978 as well as the Area III Special Family Award for the 1988-1989 year. She was an instrumental part in starting the Crisis Line in Lexington and would often spend countless hours answering calls overnight at home while the other volunteers were being trained. Susan was a selfless and incredibly caring person who wanted nothing more than to help her community as best as she could.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robert Tracy (Laura) Allen of Apple Valley, California, and Chad Thomas (Maria) Allen of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; daughter, Charlene (Danny) Hardy of Sulphur, Louisiana; grandchildren, JuliaAnn Grace Allen, Robert Thomas Allen, Courtney Allen, and Abigayle Allen; great-grandson, William Robert Allen.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for Bobby and Norma Regalado, and Chris and Terri Ferral for the wonderful care they have provided during Susan's time of need. Thank you from Tracy, Chad, and Charlene.

Besides her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Allen and her grandsons, Taylor Dane and Riley Thomas.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Susan's wish for cremation.

She attended rural, city and St. Ann's Catholic school. On October 10, 1962, Susan was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert William Allen at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this union: Tracy, Charlene, and Chad. Robert and Susan dedicated 25 years to fostering 265 children. This included children from the State of Nebraska Wards, the Dawson County Wards, and the Foster Parent of Central Nebraska Wards. Susan began working as a contract provider for the State of Nebraska Childcare Chore and Family Support Services beginning in 1984. She then moved on to working for social services with the State of Nebraska from 1997 until her retirement in 2016.Susan was an incredibly active member in her community. She was a Boy Scouts mother as well as a member of the VFW Auxiliary 5136. She served on the first State of Nebraska Foster Care Review Board and the first Dawson County Parent Child Center Board. She served on the Lexington Childcare Center Board and the Dawson Gosper County Foster Parent Association. She also helped introduce the Special Olympics in the Lexington Public School system. She received Mother of the Year in 1978 as well as the Area III Special Family Award for the 1988-1989 year. She was an instrumental part in starting the Crisis Line in Lexington and would often spend countless hours answering calls overnight at home while the other volunteers were being trained. Susan was a selfless and incredibly caring person who wanted nothing more than to help her community as best as she could.Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robert Tracy (Laura) Allen of Apple Valley, California, and Chad Thomas (Maria) Allen of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; daughter, Charlene (Danny) Hardy of Sulphur, Louisiana; grandchildren, JuliaAnn Grace Allen, Robert Thomas Allen, Courtney Allen, and Abigayle Allen; great-grandson, William Robert Allen.We would like to express our sincere gratitude for Bobby and Norma Regalado, and Chris and Terri Ferral for the wonderful care they have provided during Susan's time of need. &nbsp; Joyce Elaine Behrends, daughter of Orval and Ora (Gerdes) Behrends, was born February 20, 1950 in Auburn, Nebraska. She was one of three children born to this union.

 </figure>&nbsp; Joyce Elaine Behrends, daughter of Orval and Ora (Gerdes) Behrends, was born February 20, 1950 in Auburn, Nebraska. She was one of three children born to this union.Joyce was baptized on March 26, 1950 by Rev. C. H. Goede and was confirmed on March 22, 1964 by Rev. Walter Lentz, both at St. John's Lutheran (Stone) Church near Auburn, Nebraska. She was an organist at this church during her high school and business college years.She graduated from Johnson Public School in 1968 and from the Lincoln School of Commerce in 1969. A few weeks before her graduation, she was employed by the Lincoln School of Commerce as Secretary to the President and later also assumed the responsibilities of Office Manager.On July 21, 1973, she was united in marriage to Lynn LeRoy Fortkamp at St. John's Lutheran (Stone) Church. Three sons - Jerel Lynn, Deven Leon, Kelen Leroy - were born to this union.The couple lived in Curtis, Nebraska for three years. They made their home south of Champion in 1976 and began farming. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and had served as an LYF sponsor, Zeal member, Mid-Week teacher, and Bell Choir member. She had also served on the Chase County Community Hospital Board. She had been employed part-time at the Frontier County Welfare Office, H &amp; R Block, Zion Lutheran Church, and Imperial Lanes.Spending time with her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, with reading books to her grandchildren the most important. She also enjoyed working with her husband on the farm, gardening, sewing &amp; crafts, and visiting with family &amp; friends.In 1999 she was diagnosed with IPF, followed by congenital heart failure. Since that time she endured many hospital stays and the rest of her time was spent at home, enjoying visits from family and friends.Joyce passed away September 25, 2023 at her home, having reached the age of 73 years.She was preceded in death by her father Orval in 1990, her mother, Ora in 2019, sister, Marilyn Knippelmeyer in 2021, nephew-Godchild Brandon Behrends in 1993.Those left to mourn her passing are her husband Lynn of Champion; son Jerel and wife Mary and children Andrew and Sophie of Imperial; son, Deven of Salina, KS; son Kelen and wife Elizabeth and children Jason, Taylor, and Alex of Imperial; brother Eldon Behrends and wife Susan of Tucson, AZ; brother-in-law Jerry Knippelmeyer of Auburn, NE; nieces DeAnn, Sandi, Darcie, Serina; many Behrends &amp; Gerdes &amp; Fortkamp relatives and friends.Confirmation Verse: Isaiah 41:10Visitation will be held at Liewer Funeral Home on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M.
