Kent Hickenbottom, 64, passed away on July 8, 2023, at home.

Prayer service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska.&nbsp;

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2023, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery.&nbsp; The service will be lived streamed at www.govierbrothers.com&nbsp;

Kent Hickenbottom was born on March 16, 1959, in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Larry Allen and Vanetta Joice (Porter) Hickenbottom. Kent was raised and graduated from Broken Bow High School. He went on to college and received his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering.

Kent loved to hang out with his family. He enjoyed anything that was related to his family from vacation to being a jokester, to being in his favorite spot, "The Shed" collecting tools. When going out with family/friends, he enjoyed his margaritas.

Kent married the love of his life, Lanette Vetter on June 11, 2005, in North Dakota. After they were married, they made their home in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Shortly after that, Kent was transferred for his job to Sugar Land, Texas. He retired from Phillips 66 and moved to Dickinson, North Dakota working for Marathon for 5 yrs. In 2021, Kent moved his family to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he went back to work for Phillips 66.

Kent is preceded in death by both grandparents; his father-in-law, Joseph T Vetter; and brother-in-law, John Vetter.

Kent leaves behind, his wife, Lanette of 18 years, his pride and joy; his daughters, Abbie Jo Hickenbottom &amp; Anna Rae Hickenbottom, Stillwater; stepchildren, Brandi Weaver, Lake Charles, Louisiana &amp; Zachary Weaver, Bismarck, North Dakota; his parents, Larry Allen and Vanetta Joice (Porter) Hickenbottom, Broken Bow, Nebraska; mother in law, Geneva Vetter, Bismarck, North Dakota; in laws, Joanne &amp; Kendal Busch, Kathleen Vetter, Bernie &amp; Miles Doll, Bismarck, North Dakota, Tony &amp; Mary Vetter Oaskis, Minnesota, Janet &amp; Bruce Lenertz West Fargo, North Dakota and Josey &amp; Paul Johnson Zap, North Dakota; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Kent Eugene Hickenbottom (1959-2023)

Patrick George Murphy, 79, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away July 10, 2023, at his home in North Platte. He was born on March 20, 1944, to Frank and Catherine (Novicki) Murphy in Columbus, Nebraska.

Pat was one of eight children. Following graduation from Columbus High School in 1962, he attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln, playing football for the Huskers. Pat married Linda Cole on July 26, 1964 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. To this union three children, Jennifer, William and Brian were born. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, both in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and at the US Army Airfield Kitzingen Germany as an Artillery Surveyor. During his time of service, he received the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Award and National Defense Service Medal. Following his discharge, Pat retuned to Columbus and worked at Behlen Manufacturing. In 1969 he joined the Union Pacific Railroad in Grand Island, then transferred to North Platte in 1972. He worked there as a conductor until his retirement in 2006. The family resided in Hershey from 1976 – 1983. Pat was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and supported and impacted many other important causes. One of his greatest achievements was his 40 + years of sobriety which allowed him to mentor and impact countless others through his leadership in AA. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and was a loyal UNK Loper supporter, attending many of their games in the last 25 years.

Patrick George Murphy (1944-2023)

Rosaline “Rose” Vona (Kieborz) Bell age 93 of Broken Bow, NE passed away July 6, 2023, at the Jennie M Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Memorial services will be Friday, July 21, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Rose was born November 16, 1929, in Litchfield, NE to Laura (Zanzig) and Otto Kieborz. Rose was baptized January 5, 1930, at the Lutheran Church in Litchfield, NE by Pastor Daelmke. Rose was confirmed July 13, 1952, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Broken Bow, NE by Pastor R.N. Baur. Rose graduated from Litchfield High School. On August 13, 1946, Rose was united in marriage to Byron Lee Bell.

Rose worked at the Broken Bow Municipal Utilities part time. She organized the Western Welcome Service in 1966 and was the Hostess until 1975. Rose and Lee purchased Bell’s Bow Booterie shoe store and ran it for 26 years. For the first couple years Rose managed the shoe store daily while Lee continued to drive his delivery truck.

Rose was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the Lutheran Ladies organization. She was a long-time member of the Stitch-n-Kitchen Extension Club.

Rose was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother who was proud of her children and their families. She enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes. Rose was a great baker who was always willing to share. She loved flowers and working in the yard. She and Lee enjoyed card games and get togethers with “the gang” over the years. A big highlight of her life was celebrating her 60th Anniversary with Lee and all of their family. Rose and Lee had great times together on camping trips.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband Lee, parents Otto and Laura, two brothers Leonard and Bernard Kieborz

Rose is survived by her four sons Dan (Denise) Bell, Mike (Sally) Bell, Greg (Cindy) Bell, and Brad (Kelly) Bell and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rose Bell (1929-2023)

&nbsp; Janet Ruth Prior, 80, of Imperial, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver (Lakewood), Colorado. Born April 30, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Janet was the second child of Everett and Elizabeth (Williams) Sommer, originally of North Loup and Scotia, Nebraska. Following her birth, her father’s work led to several moves that brought the young family back to Nebraska, where they settled in Lincoln. It was there Janet grew up and graduated from Northeast High School in 1961. She then began her college education, attending her first two years at York University (né College) in York, Nebraska. At York, her campus activities included being a member of and traveling with the A Cappella Chorus. In spring, 1963, she was honored as Miss York College, completed and was awarded the associate of arts degree. In fall 1963, Janet began upper-class studies at Harding University (ne College) in Searcy, Arkansas. She completed the bachelor’s degree in spring 1965, having majored in English and secondary education. She taught high school English in Onawa, Iowa, in 1965-1966. On June 17, 1966, Janet married her York and Harding classmate Merlin Prior at the 56th and Vine Church of Christ in Lincoln. They moved to Imperial, where Merlin worked alongside Merlin’s parents, Wendell and Lila Prior, in the implement business. In fall 1966 Merlin and Janet moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado. There Janet taught in Johnstown High School near Loveland, and Merlin began work toward, and completed, a master’s degree. In 1968 Merlin and Janet moved back to Imperial, again working alongside Merlin’s parents in the implement business and building the farming and ranching operations. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage and two children, Merlin Rex Prior II, and Annette Ruth (Prior) French. City girl turned Nebraska farmer-rancher’s wife, woman of deep faith, fun-loving and compassionate, Janet impacted the lives of many, through her values and shared faith, her love of people and community. Her many talents included teaching Bible classes, a love of music, flowers and gardening, and all things needle art. She taught sewing to 4-H Council and was a member of the local and regional University of Nebraska Extension Board. She made quilts for the high school graduations and marriages of her children and grandchildren; and works of needle art for the extended-family members, all the while maintaining the accounting records for the family business operations. With children grown, Janet in 2009 began the next phase of her life journey as partner-owner of the New Generation Fabrics store, managing the Imperial fabric and gift shop until illness took her to the hospital in late April. Janet is survived by her husband, Merlin, their children, Rex (Amy) Prior, of Imperial; Annette (Jack) French, of Dripping Springs, Texas; four grandchildren, Lauren (Prior) Struckmeyer, of Salina, Kansas; Kendall Prior of Imperial; Meghan French of Austin, Texas; and Ethan French of Dripping Springs, Texas; her sister, Sandra Sheldon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and brother, Richard (Lori) Sommer, of Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, Art Sheldon. Janet R Prior (1943-2023)

&nbsp; James Arnold Lenters was born February 4, 1947, in South St. Paul, Minnesota, to Hazel Mary (Irons) and Sam Theodore Lenters. Jim, as he was known, grew up and attended school in Iowa and Colorado. He graduated from Manitou Springs High School in 1965. He continued his education at Colorado State University where he received his degree in 1969. On June 3, 1978, Jim married Bernice Ann Miller and the couple settled in Fort Collins, CO, where they raised their three daughters: Cheryl, Jenni, and Katie. Jim was a longtime employee of Mawson Lumber and Hardware in Fort Collins. In October of 2020, Jim and Bernice moved to Imperial, NE, to be closer to family and enjoy their grandson, James. Jim enjoyed woodworking and screen printing. He especially loved spending time with his family. Jim was always busy with a project and was an amazing handyman. He was a member of Trimble Court Artisans in Fort Collins, CO. Jim passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, at his home in Imperial, surrounded by his family. Jim was 76 years of age. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Hazel and Sam Lenters, sister: Lucy Brenning, and daughter, Cheryl Socolofsky. Survivors include: Wife: Bernice Lenters of Imperial, NE. Jim was a longtime employee of Mawson Lumber and Hardware in Fort Collins. In October of 2020, Jim and Bernice moved to Imperial, NE, to be closer to family and enjoy their grandson, James. Jim enjoyed woodworking and screen printing. He especially loved spending time with his family. Jim was always busy with a project and was an amazing handyman. He was a member of Trimble Court Artisans in Fort Collins, CO. Jim passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, at his home in Imperial, surrounded by his family. Jim was 76 years of age. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Hazel and Sam Lenters, sister: Lucy Brenning, and daughter, Cheryl Socolofsky. Survivors include: Wife: Bernice Lenters of Imperial, NE. Gail D. Goodwin Rippen passed away July 8th, 2023 at Emerald Nursing and Rehab in Cozad, NE. &nbsp; She was born May 20th, 1947 in Hayward, CA to Sylvester Raymond “Buster” and Billie “Bee” (Maehler) Goodwin.&nbsp;

Gail grew up and resided in the California Bay area, graduating from William C. Overfelt High School in 1965. &nbsp;She worked for Credit Bureau Metro in San Jose, CA and later Western Electric in Sunnyvale, CA in Data Processing. &nbsp; On July 28th, 1972 she married Terry L. Rippen and they moved to Nebraska to raise their family. She earned her Certified Dietary Manager Degree and worked at the Senior Center in North Platte, NE for 19 years. In 2001 she moved to Green River, WY, where she worked at Castle Rock Convalescent Center and then Sweetwater County Sheriff Department as the facility cook where she retired from in 2013.

She loved all animals, but especially horses and dogs. She raised horses while living on a friend’s ranch in California and bred Standard Collies in Nebraska. Being the accomplished cook and baker that she was, she enjoyed sharing her delicious creations, especially at Christmas time and baking elaborate birthday cakes for her children. She loved to read, she was never without a book and she loved her roses. She was quite artistic and painted ceramics for all occasions as well as sewing many beautiful pieces, especially for her children when they were young. &nbsp;She also enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, and most recently bird watching. &nbsp;She was strong in her faith and love for her family.&nbsp; Gail returned to Nebraska in 2020 to be near children and resided at Emerald Assisted Living Facility.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Goodwin; and brother-in-law, Steve Minarik

Those left to cherish her memories are daughter, Becky (Alan) Sonneman, of Maxwell, NE; son Ryan (Nikki) Rippen, of North Platte, NE; sister, Gloria Minarik, of The Woodlands, TX; sister-in-law, Cathy Goodwin, of Campbell, CA. Five grandchildren, Gracie, Faith, Rylan, and Hope Rippen; Teegan Sonneman; nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and many friends at Emerald, including special friend Verla Brown.

He attended school in Brule, NE.&nbsp; One of Rodney's great joys while in school was playing sports. He graduated in 1987. After graduation he moved to California for a few years, then returned home and eventually moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where he worked for RB Trim and then moved on to work at Thunderpup as a Construction Superintendent until the time of his death.

Rodney is survived by his loving parents, Lonnie and Cheryl Boring of Brule, Ne; Nephews, Derek Strakose, Georgia and Trevor Crowell of Colorado ; and many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

He is proceeded in death by his Brother James D. Boring; Grandparents, Pauline and Darold&nbsp; Ebert; Glennys and Kenny Maddox; Dixie and Mell Patterson; Donna Taylor; Frances and Neal Warner.

Rodney Lee Boring (1969-2023)

&nbsp; In Loving Memory: Minden “Mindy”&nbsp; Ann Tanner Johnson Washa, of Ogalalla died July 7th, 2023 at her home.

Mindy, a resilient and compassionate soul, passed away at the age of 54, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and personal growth.&nbsp; Born in Holladay, Utah, she loved and excelled in sports, especially basketball. She was also an exemplary student. Shortly after graduating from high school, she got married and started a family.&nbsp; She called Salt Lake City home for most of her life before embarking on a new chapter in Nebraska where she married her second husband Terry Washa from Ogallala, NE. Mindy embraced her new home in NE, she fell in love with the fields of beautiful sunflowers and learned to love the country life. The sunrises and sunsets were very different from the mountains which caused here great troubles when it came to directions initially. She embraced Terry’s family and loved his kids and grandkids like her own. From an early age, Mindy faced both immense joy and profound tragedy. She embraced the gift of motherhood and raised four children with unwavering devotion. However, her heart was shattered when her third-born son tragically passed away at just nine months old. The weight of this loss and the challenges it brought shaped her journey. Despite these struggles, she never lost her fierce love for her children, who remained a constant source of light in her life. Life presented Mindy with further trials, as she battled various physical ailments for the last 15 years. Throughout it all, she demonstrated remarkable resilience and the will to overcome adversity. Her journey of personal redemption was a testament to her determination and inner growth. In recent years, Mindy found purpose in her role as a grandmother. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent connecting with them.&nbsp; Believing in the power of healing and second chances, Mindy actively engaged with her AA program. Some of the challenges she faced tested her spirit, but she found solace and strength in the later years by becoming the local area president of AA where she was dedicated to helping others find the same success she had achieved. Her volunteer service touched the lives of those struggling with addiction, offering them hope and encouragement along their own paths to recovery. Today, as we remember Mindy, let us celebrate the strength she possessed in the face of adversity, her unyielding love for her children and grandchildren, and the transformative journey she embarked upon to find peace within herself. &nbsp; Rebecca Ann "Becky" Freeman unexpectedly passed away at the age of 71 due to an automobile accident on July 10, 2023. Becky was born at Spalding, NE, to Robert and Anetta Lee on August 28, 1951, and shared her birthday with her dad, who she adored.&nbsp; She was the oldest of seven siblings and grew up on a farm near Spalding.&nbsp; After graduating high school, Becky lived in the Imperial community until moving to North Platte with her children in 1989. She was an incredible woman and was the proud owner of Becky's Cleaning in North Platte for nearly 30 years.&nbsp; She never met a stranger and was an eternal optimist who would move heaven and earth to help her family. Becky was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a devoted catholic who trusted in God with all her heart.&nbsp; She made the world a brighter place and gave all she had.&nbsp; She will be greatly missed and forever loved. Becky was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jerry Pat Lee. Rebecca "Becky" Freeman (1951-2023)

Elaine Joyce Brown, lovingly known by her family and friends, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born on December 10, 1938, near Seward, NE, to Adolph and Elsie Schulz. Elaine's remarkable life will forever be cherished and remembered.

Elaine accomplished numerous milestones throughout her life. She embarked on a career as the proud owner and operator of an IGA grocery store and later dedicating her time to work in manufacturing, all while balancing her roles as a devoted mother of six children—a testament to her boundless love and unwavering commitment to her family.

Elaine attended country school and high school in Gothenburg, NE.

Elaine will be remembered for her love of tending to her flower gardens, quilting in her large sewing room, romance novels and puzzles. She had a keen eye for colors and home decorating projects, usually constructed from treasures she’d pick up at an auction. &nbsp;She had an infectious Christmas spirit and her Christmas village was always a hit with family and passersby. Her favorite pastime was pulling one-armed bandits, when she and her beloved John would sneak away on day trips to the casino.

Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John W. Brown; her parents, Adolph and Elsie Schulz; brothers Norbert, Virgil, and Milton Schulz; grandson Creighton Hamburger and granddaughters Addison and Scarlett Stumpf. Although their absence is deeply felt, their memory will continue to live on within the hearts of their loved ones.

Left with cherished memories are Elaine's children: Anthony (Monica) Brown of Gothenburg, Nebraska; Maria (Bill) Hamburger of Hastings, Nebraska; Charlotte (Don) Stumpf of Gautier, Mississippi; Patty Jo (Kevin) Bice of Broomfield, Colorado; Paul (Tommie) Brown of Mondamin, Iowa; and Youl (Callie) Brown of Loveland, Colorado. Elaine's sisters, Vera Wolf and Myrna Bratten, also remain as pillars of strength for the family.

Elaine will be remembered and missed by her sixteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on July 14, 2023, at Gothenburg Cemetery in Gothenburg. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m., allowing family and friends to come together to honor and celebrate Elaine's remarkable life.

Elaine Joyce Brown's legacy reaches far beyond her time on earth. Her memory will be carried in the hearts of all who knew her as a caring wife, devoted mother, cherished friend, and beloved family member. She touched the lives of many with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that her love continues to guide and inspire us all.

Elaine Joyce Brown (1938-2023)

&nbsp; Roy Charles Phillips of North Platte passed away at Great Plains Health on July 9, 2023, at the age of 83. Roy was born in Glenrock, WY, to George and Ione Phillips on June 9, 1940.&nbsp; He grew up in Cheyenne where he graduated from Cheyenne Central High School then enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1959 to 1963.&nbsp; He returned home following his discharge and hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad, working in the store department before becoming an electrician.&nbsp; Roy relocated to North Platte with the railroad in 1971 and continued working for 39 years until retiring. On May 15, 1965, Roy married Karen Swearingen in Cheyenne.&nbsp; The couple was blessed with 58 years of marriage and three children, Lorie, Steve and Cory. Roy was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Platte Valley Lodge #32 where he received his 50 year pin, York Rite and Eastern Star Signet Chapter #55 where he also served as Worthy Patron. Roy loved his family and enjoyed fishing and Nebraska football. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Albert Gonsior. Survivors include Roy's wife, Karen; children, Lorie (Marty) Skinner of Ft. Roy C. Phillips (1940-2023)

Charlene J. Holbein, 72, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society – St. John’s in Kearney surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 4, 1951 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to James and Vera (Murray) Houchin. Charlene attended public schools in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1969. She then went on to further her education, taking a correspondence course, receiving her certificate in bookkeeping and accounting.&nbsp;

On August 22, 1969 she was united in marriage to Steve Holbein in Cozad at the American Lutheran Church. Three children were blessed to this union: Michelle, Dawn and Chad. They made their home south of Darr, where Charlene focused her efforts on caring for the home and raising their children. She also cleaned homes during this time. The family moved to Lexington in 1976 where Charlene held various jobs over the years. She worked at Karre City Bakery, Sav-A-Lot and would spend the next thirty years working side-by-side with the love of her life, Steve. They had a sweeping business cleaning parking lots and floors. They moved snow in the winter and ran Steve’s Lock and Key, where she took care of the finances.&nbsp;

Charlene enjoyed working on puzzles and crossword puzzles; was a fantastic baker and loved moving snow. She also had a beautiful garden she enjoyed tending and treasured time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Steve of Lexington; her children, Dawn (Sean) Cromer of Kearney and Chad Holbein of Grand Island; six grandchildren, Skylar (Joseph Kappes) Howell of Cozad, Gage Holbein of Nashville, Tennessee, Hunter (Mallory) Holbein of Omaha, Chase Lundgren of Kearney, Chloe Lundgren (Kris Junker) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Chayna Lundgren of Kearney; two great-grandchildren, Raelynn Carlson and Jameson Kappes; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Dan) Sabin of Lexington and Carol Wagner of Gothenburg; brother-in-law, Randy (Lois) Holbein of Gothenburg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle; siblings, Art (Josephine) Houchin, Artith (Derrell) Barnes, Vera “Sis” (Ralph) Kwiatkowski, Raymond Houchin, Joann Baldwin and Danny (Marlene) Houchin; sisters-in-law, Joann Block and Marlys Holbein; brother-in-law, Lorin Wagner and in-laws, Harold and Dorothy Holbein.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Sarah Neben, officiating.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

&nbsp; Tom Anderson, the son of Clarence (Andy) and Janice Anderson was born In Imperial, NE. Tom joined us on July 17th, in “the summer of 69” and left us on December 15, 2022, at his home in Madrid, NE, at the age of 53. Tom attended Imperial Elementary School and graduated from Chase County High School in 1988. Tom joined the US Army Signal Corps in 1991. He served in Okinawa Japan, San Diego, CA, and Ft. Irwin, CA. He was very proud of his service to our Country, as so many of his brothers and father were before him. Tom carried that courage and respect over to his daily life, serving his community, especially the American Legion and Fire Department of Madrid, NE, where he settled in 2012, while building on his dream of owning his own lumber yard and honoring his family’s name. Hanging that name “Anderson Lumber” over the entry of the door that would lead to Tom’s dream of following in his father’s footsteps. Tom leaned into his hugs, and you could tell that every ounce of his giant soul was good-hearted and genuine. His vision was wider than most of our windows allow us to let in. He tried as best as he could to frame his life and love of his business, his beliefs, while staying humble and proud. I’m sure he’s laughing with his brother Billy and Brian by now and Mom and Dad smiling…. making room for him at the table. Joseph Harrison Adams, Gunners Mate Senior Chief, USN, Ret, died July, 2, 2023; at the age of 82 in Mesa, Arizona. The son of Andy and Hilda Adams, he was born in his grandfather's house near York, NE, May 13, 1941, with his Aunt Elsie in attendance. His family moved many times, but he considered Cody, Wyoming, his home and returned to hunt whenever he could.

He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 attending Boot Camp in San Diego, CA; and spent the next almost 27 years "seeing the world." He was a Gunners Mate on 5" 54 guns. He served on the USS Mark AKL 12 out of the Philippines; USS Yorktown CV 10 out of Long Beach, CA; USS Manley DD 940 out of Charleston, SC; USS Joseph Strauss DDG 16 out of Pearl Harbor and Bremerton, WA; and USS Kirk FF 1087 out of Yokosuka, Japan. He also served at many shore stations including Missoula, MT; Great Lakes, IL; Yokosuka, Japan; Seal Beach, CA; San Diego, CA and others. He was in Vietnam on 7 cruises and was awarded the Navy Commendation medal with Combat V, Combat Action Medal, Navy Achievement Metal with Combat V and star, Good Conduct Medal with 4 stars, Vietnamese Honor Medal from the Vietnam Government, and was Sailor of the Year for the USS Strauss and DesRon 33, 1972. He eventually was diagnosed with asbestosis, the result of removing asbestos from ship spaces; and his breathing got progressively worse over the years.

After retirement, he attended school at Mid Plains Community College North Platte, NE. He became an electrician and worked at that trade for the next 20 years. He spent the next years doing beautiful wood work in his shop making bowls, rolling pins, pepper grinders and other intricate pieces. Joe was skilled in car repair, plumbing, hanging dry wall, and was good at almost any job requiring hand skills. When visiting friends and relatives, he was often asked to fix whatever was wrong at the house, and he did it all.

He married Cheryl Shepherd on September 24, 1966, in Madrid, Nebraska. She followed him from base to base and considers that 18 years the best part of her life. After retirement, they lived in North Platte, NE, and finally settled in Mesa, AZ. A highlight of the last 20 years was attending the USS Joseph Strauss reunions where they saw many old friends and met many new ones. He is a member of the Madrid, NE, chapter of The American Legion.

His three daughters were the joys of his life. Whether it was timing at swim meets, teaching them to drive, or supervising sleep overs, he enjoyed it all. And 9 grandchildren and three great granddaughters added to the happiness every day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Richard and Steve and his sisters Nancy and Nita. He is survived by his wife of 55 years; his daughters, Ann (Jason), Michele (Dan), and Rochele; grandchildren Tyler, Skyler, Madison, Jordan, Austin, Warren, Aspin, Zach, and Sailor; one sister-in-law, Colleen; and many relatives and friends. Burial will be in the Madrid, Nebraska, cemetery. Bullock-Long Funeral Home, Grant, NE. is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be donated to the Disabled American Veterans.

Janeice "Birdie" Carol Jumps (1936-2023)

Theodore Joseph Mesmer, “Joe,” was born in Sutherland, Nebraska in 1934. When his mother passed in 1941, his father married his second grade teacher Anne Ulrichson who continued to raise the family. One of his favorite childhood memories was being with his Uncle Hans Schmalzried who was a projectionist for both the North Platte Keith Theatre and the Paramount Theatre. He would be in the projection booth and help Uncle Hans change the reels. In so doing, he watched many, many hours of movies. He graduated North Platte High School in 1952 and attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he graduated with a bachelor’s in business management. He was also the president of the SAE Fraternity. It was at college he met and married Clare Hinman Mesmer in 1956, also from North Platte. &nbsp;They moved back home, where he managed two laundromats and four full service gas stations. He also was a member of the National Guard. In 1964, Joe attended training in Memphis and returned to North Platte to manage the new North Platte Holiday Inn. On May 10th, 1965, the North Platte Holiday Inn opened serving travelers from US Highways 83, 30, and the newly finished I-80. His spirit flowed through the hotel; guests were cared for and safe, as were his employees. Along with being a successful Innkeeper, he also was a NebraskaLand Days Board Member from 1974-1978 and hosted many artists and events at the hotel and out at his family boat house at Lake Maloney. In 1979, Joe was given the opportunity to partly own and become the Innkeeper at the Gallup, New Mexico Holiday Inn. He led his family on many educational adventures throughout the Southwest. In 1983, the family moved to Taos, New Mexico, as he became the on-site Manager at the Holiday Inn of Taos. It was here the family built a home in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. He loved Pot Creek and unwinding with the trout stream just below the house. He took the family to Hawaii and flew over a volcano and ate fresh pineapple, and to New Orleans where he introduced the family to Jazz at Preservation Hall in 1984. He piloted his family’s boat through Lake Powell at its fullest capacity. He proudly took Clare to other cities like Chicago, San Antonio, San Francisco, and Cancun.&nbsp;

His next adventure in life was more difficult, but he persevered. The family moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1985. He was a realtor of HUD homes and adjusted to the Arizona dry heat very well. When life seemed heavy, he was comforted by bicycling and loving the family’s two Miniature Schnauzers. He was their caretaker from beginning to end. Somewhat stubborn, he attempted his first and last “Century Ride” on his bike, in August, during the day. He rode 25 miles east, and 25 miles back. He then rode the same 25 miles east again and completed 24 miles back. However, on the final mile- mile 99-as he stopped at a 7-11, his tire exploded and Clare picked him up.&nbsp;

He cheered on his family as best he could: his first grandchild, Megan, arrived in 1989, and a new sparkle entered his smile. His second grandchild Zander arrived in 2005 and became his snack and cartoon-watching buddy. In 2008, he welcomed Nastia as his third grandchild and was proud of her becoming a United States citizen. He drove the family every Christmas back to Nebraska and no one could best his road trip abilities. He always got the family safely to and from their destinations, and helped all passengers become well aware of the AM radio static becoming clearer as they neared Denver. Road trips were also punctuated by him spotting wildlife and pointing it out to everyone in the car. Most importantly, however, he would be the first to say he could not have done all of this without the help of his wife, right down to her pouring his coffee from his Stanley Thermos as he drove. Very few people have mastered, “Jenga in a Station Wagon” as well as Joe Mesmer did.&nbsp;

There was not a dog or Menards bucket he didn’t like, and it can be argued that his lawn was the loveliest on the west side of town. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, a chili-cheeseburger with a thick slice of onion, an apple fritter from Caseys, and Clare’s unmatched cooking. He befriended many a stray cat and dog along his way, including an orange tabby cat in Mesa who welcomed him home to the condo complex when he’d pull up. He was also the Sutherland Care Center’s cat-favorite, especially since both enjoyed a good nap and the heater being on 80. &nbsp;

He is now missed and will continue to be missed by Clare, his wife of 67 years; Fred (Pam) Mesmer, his brother; Elizabeth (Boone) Dailey, John (Natalia) Mesmer, and Helen-Ann Mesmer, his children; Megan(Brittney), Zander, and Anastasia Barmina (Arman), his grandchildren; and an abundance of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother-Elizabeth, father-Fred, Step-Mother-Anne, his in-laws York and Helen Hinman, sister-Marie Dunham and infant Theodore Joseph.&nbsp;

 </figure>Theodore Joseph Mesmer, “Joe,” was born in Sutherland, Nebraska in 1934. When his mother passed in 1941, his father married his second grade teacher Anne Ulrichson who continued to raise the family. One of his favorite childhood memories was being with his Uncle Hans Schmalzried who was a projectionist for both the North Platte Keith Theatre and the Paramount Theatre. He would be in the projection booth and help Uncle Hans change the reels. In so doing, he watched many, many hours of movies. He graduated North Platte High School in 1952 and attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he graduated with a bachelor’s in business management. He was also the president of the SAE Fraternity. It was at college he met and married Clare Hinman Mesmer in 1956, also from North Platte. &nbsp;They moved back home, where he managed two laundromats and four full service gas stations. He also was a member of the National Guard. In 1964, Joe attended training in Memphis and returned to North Platte to manage the new North Platte Holiday Inn. On May 10th, 1965, the North Platte Holiday Inn opened serving travelers from US Highways 83, 30, and the newly finished I-80. His spirit flowed through the hotel; guests were cared for and safe, as were his employees. Along with being a successful Innkeeper, he also was a NebraskaLand Days Board Member from 1974-1978 and hosted many artists and events at the hotel and out at his family boat house at Lake Maloney. Theodore Joseph "Joe" Mesmer (1934-2023)

Kent Rundback, 84, of Ogallala, passed away on July 4, 2023, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant.

Kent was born on October 14, 1938, in Paxton, Nebraska, to Carl and Mary (McClain) Rundback. Growing up and working on the family ranch and after attending a one-room grade school in southwest McPherson County, Valley Rang, he graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1957.

On August 31, 1960, Kent married Orla Mae Melgaard in North Platte. Not long after their nuptials, Kent was drafted into the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, Kent returned home, where he and Orla made a home on the family ranch north of Paxton. There they lived and raised their two children, Roy and Brenda.

Kent had called McPherson County his home for over 70 years and was deeply ingrained in the ranching life and community. He was a regular presence at the sale barn and rarely missed a sale.

Though Kent was deeply committed to his passion of ranching and love for nature, those who knew him understood that his family and faith always came first in his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and relished the opportunity for a good joke or to pull a prank, qualities he passed down to his children and grandchildren. And as many knew, he had a heart for visiting.

A memorial has been established in Kent's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jason Rundback; and his brother, Morton Rundback.

A memorial service will be held on July 20, 2023 at 1:30 pm at New Hope Church in Ogallala, with Pastor Don Larreau officiating. Family interment of cremains will take place earlier in the Arthur Cemetery at 9:30 am.

Thomas Carlton Grimm (2004-2023)

Chase Corbett Hahn, 21, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died July 3, 2023 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN.

He was born December 14, 2001 in Kearney, NE, son of Corbett and Christine (Meis) Hahn.

When Chase was born, it was quickly discovered that he had a serious medical issue and was soon diagnosed with a heart defect. He was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Omaha when he was just a few hours old. &nbsp;After just a couple of days, doctors performed open heart surgery to repair his heart. Unfortunately, the good news was short lived as it was later discovered that Chase had a defect in his lungs and was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension. &nbsp;Chase's illness led him to spend many days in the hospital and endure different procedures. With every new advance in medicine, Chase was right there to give it a try. &nbsp;With no other treatment options available, it was suggested that Chase look at lung transplant surgery. After several evaluations at various transplant centers, Vanderbilt University in Nashville agreed to do his procedure although Chase was considered to be a complicated case due to his prior surgeries. Unfortunately, the transplant developed complications and ultimately his new lungs failed. Although Chase struggled due to his illness, he pushed through it to enjoy life to the fullest. &nbsp;Chase enjoyed spending time playing video games online with friends and watching NBA basketball. He was a big fan of Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. Chase's greatest joy was playing cards with his family, especially his Grandma Carol and Grandpa Gary. &nbsp;Chase's love of cards and his competitive nature led him to join his dad's weekly poker group and he immediately became one of the guys. When he was asked about gambling at poker, Chase replied "it's not gambling if you know you're gonna win". &nbsp;Chase also had a love of trivia especially anything about the NBA and movies. &nbsp;Chase would often challenge his cousins to name a movie and he would tell them the year it came out. &nbsp; He could also name every NBA champion for the last fifty years in order by year. &nbsp;When the local theater began holding trivia nights, he did not hesitate when asked to play on the team with his dad and friends. Chase's quick wit, gift of gab, and caring nature gave him the uncanny ability to connect with people of all ages.

Chase Hahn (2001-2023)

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 10:30 am at the United Church of Christ in Thedford, NE with Pastor Les Parmenter officiating. A light lunch will follow, and burial will then be at the Brownlee Cemetery at Brownlee, NE. A visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:00 to service time at the United Church of Christ. Alice Faye Smith, 80, of Brownlee, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. She was a devoted wife, caring mother, and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.&nbsp;

Alice was born on June 29, 1943, to parents Edward Mathauser and Maggie Mathauser (Shubert) in Dunning, NE, where she grew up with her brother and sisters. Alice married Charles Smith of Brownlee, NE, on November 25, 1960, in Dunning and the couple lived for a time in Brownlee and Merna, NE, eventually settling in Brownlee, where Charles worked for the Cherry County Road Department. &nbsp;The couple had three children: Mavis, Bev, and Steve, and Alice stayed busy in her role as wife and mother.&nbsp;

Alice was very hardworking and loved her family, always taking care of them and their home. She enjoyed cooking and baking and had a special knack for experimenting with new recipes and perfecting techniques. &nbsp;She also liked reading, fishing, sewing, playing cards and games, and had a soft spot for animals. She spent a lot of time with her children, taking them fishing on the weekends and packing picnic lunches, reading to them, and welcoming pet turtles and caterpillars into her home as well. &nbsp;

She looked forward to the fourth of July each year when family would come to visit, relish good food, and catch up on life. &nbsp;She was active with the Brownlee Canasta Club, participating in card games and other activities. She was also a skilled quilter, and canned and preserved some of the tastiest food around. Later on, Alice worked as Officer in Charge for the Brownlee Post office until its closing in 1989.&nbsp;

As her family grew, she had fun spending time with sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. &nbsp;Though really very fond of them, she was good at giving her sons-in-law a hard time. She cherished her grandchildren and took on many activities with them; giving haircuts, dressing up for Halloween, showing them games, and ‘trying’ to teach them to cook. She never really said no to them, always complying with any appeal for a pen, a crayon, a bag for collecting rocks, or ‘something to do’.&nbsp;

Being the accomplished cook, baker, and candy maker that she was, she continued sharing her delicious creations in the kitchen. She could take on any recipe and just as easily discount any that weren’t up to her standard; she knew what she was doing. Though at times a woman of few words, Alice always had something to say about food – a new recipe she’d heard about or a ‘tip’ for improvement. &nbsp;Her kitchen never lacked some delicious snack, and her cinnamon rolls were a family favorite – always a first request on visits, to which Alice never said no. &nbsp;

She was sharp-witted, often ready with a quick comeback or joke. She had a strong personality and a strong will- if she wanted it done, it got done; and if she didn’t want it done, it didn’t. &nbsp;She loved to read, especially romance and mystery books, and she poured through them, knowing all the best authors to share with her grandkids. She adored her kitties, taking pictures, sending birthday cards, and saving stories, news, pictures, and recipes to share with her loved ones. She was thoughtful in her own quiet ways and gave the best goodbye hugs. She will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

Alice is predeceased by father, Ed Mathauser, mother Maggie Shubert, brother Robert Mathauser, and sisters Margaret Palmer, Dora Sheets, and Dorothy Sprackling, and two infant brothers. She was a devoted wife, caring mother, and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.&nbsp;Alice was born on June 29, 1943, to parents Edward Mathauser and Maggie Mathauser (Shubert) in Dunning, NE, where she grew up with her brother and sisters. Alice married Charles Smith of Brownlee, NE, on November 25, 1960, in Dunning and the couple lived for a time in Brownlee and Merna, NE, eventually settling in Brownlee, where Charles worked for the Cherry County Road Department. &nbsp;The couple had three children: Mavis, Bev, and Steve, and Alice stayed busy in her role as wife and mother.&nbsp;Alice was very hardworking and loved her family, always taking care of them and their home. She enjoyed cooking and baking and had a special knack for experimenting with new recipes and perfecting techniques. &nbsp;She also liked reading, fishing, sewing, playing cards and games, and had a soft spot for animals. She spent a lot of time with her children, taking them fishing on the weekends and packing picnic lunches, reading to them, and welcoming pet turtles and caterpillars into her home as well. &nbsp;She looked forward to the fourth of July each year when family would come to visit, relish good food, and catch up on life. &nbsp;She was active with the Brownlee Canasta Club, participating in card games and other activities. She was also a skilled quilter, and canned and preserved some of the tastiest food around. Later on, Alice worked as Officer in Charge for the Brownlee Post office until its closing in 1989.&nbsp;As her family grew, she had fun spending time with sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. &nbsp;Though really very fond of them, she was good at giving her sons-in-law a hard time. She cherished her grandchildren and took on many activities with them; giving haircuts, dressing up for Halloween, showing them games, and ‘trying’ to teach them to cook. She never really said no to them, always complying with any appeal for a pen, a crayon, a bag for collecting rocks, or ‘something to do’.&nbsp;Being the accomplished cook, baker, and candy maker that she was, she continued sharing her delicious creations in the kitchen. She could take on any recipe and just as easily discount any that weren’t up to her standard; she knew what she was doing. Daniel “Dan” E. Haines of Culbertson, NE passed away at McCook Community Hospital on July 5, 2023, at the age of 71.

Dan was born in Benkelman, NE on April 22, 1952, to parents Hubert and Helen (Ellis) Haines. He grew up in Benkelman where he graduated high school with the Class of 1971. Throughout his life, Dan was a truck driver and drove thousands of miles, ensuring freight was delivered on time for many families and companies.

In 1972, Dan served his country by joining the Navy and was medically discharged in 1973. Dan’s service to this great country was appreciated by all.

Dan was united in marriage with Linda Housley on November 24, 1984, in McCook, NE. Together, they raised their sons Daniel and Kyler. One hobby Dan enjoyed for leisure was golfing.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; and three infants, Jeffrey, Kerri, and Kody.

Those left to celebrate Dan’s life is his wife, Linda Haines; sons, Daniel (Misty) Haines of Oklahoma, and Kyler (Amy) Haines of Highlands Ranch, CO; brother, Kenneth (Francie) Haines of Benkelman, NE; sister, Linda (Ron) Sorensen of Bellevue, NE; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Troy D. Whited, 55, of Lincoln, NE passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at York General Hospital. &nbsp;He was born on November 24, 1967 in North Platte, NE the son of Don Whited and Donna (Neal) Campbell. &nbsp;&nbsp; Troy grew up in Tryon and went to school there until the 1st grade when the family moved to North Platte. &nbsp;He attended grade school and junior high in North Platte and then returned to Tryon graduating from McPherson County High School in 1986. &nbsp;While in school he participated in football, basketball, high school rodeo, and horse shows. &nbsp;Troy’s great love was roping and riding horses as well as buying and selling horses. &nbsp;He was always very supportive of his sons Rio and Tee in their education, rodeo and roping. He provided good horses for them to ride and always attended all their high school and collegiate rodeos as well as countless team ropings. He was a member of the United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC), Mid States Rodeo Association and the Nebraska State Rodeo Association. Troy loved spending time with his family and friends. Most of all Troy was proud and loved his sons more than anything in the world. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Geneva Neal, paternal grandparents, Earl and Blanche Whited; stepfather, Larry Campbell; uncle, Gary Whited.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish Troy’s memory are his sons Rio and Tee Whited of Wallace; mother, Donna Campbell of North Platte; father, Don (Sandy) Whited of Cortland; life partner, Lori Jaixen of Lincoln; brother, Brad Whited of North Platte; uncles, Orval (Judy) Whited and Gary (Gerry) Neal; step-siblings, Chad Morgan, Tanya Norrid, Dan and Mike Campbell; as well as many cousins, extended family and rodeo friends.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, North Platte with Pastors Mike Evans and Scott Mathis officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the North&nbsp;Platte Cemetery.&nbsp;

Troy D. Whited (1967-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Jerry Dean Kautz, age 79, of Culbertson, NE passed away at the Hillcrest Care Center on Monday, July 3, 2023, after a 2-year long battle with cancer. He was born in Culbertson on December 30, 1943 to Joseph and Minnie Violet (Cole) Kautz. Jerry attended school in Culbertson, graduating from Culbertson High School in 1962, he later attended McCook Community College and Kearney State College. Jerry served his country in the United States Army National Guard from June 1968 until his honorable discharge February 5, 1975.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Jerry returned to the family farm in Culbertson after the army. On February 13, 1968, he was united in marriage to Nancy Herman. To this union, four children were born: Monica, Levi, Christopher, and Justin. He continued to farm and ranch in Culbertson. He still had cattle from the blood line established by his family in the 1880’s. He also raised a herd of buffalo. Jerry was a classic car enthusiast and had a 1967 Mustang, a 1968 Corvette and a pair of 1955 Chevys. He passed his love and passion for cars onto his sons. Jerry also loved motorcycles, one of which he gave Nancy a ride on when they first met, and the rest is history.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Jerry was very appreciative of his granddaughter, Gabriel Pearson and great grandchildren, Luke Dean (named after Jerry) and Addison for staying and helping during his last stage of life.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Kautz (2021); sister-in-law, Julie Mockery; and his parents, Joseph and Minnie Violet Kautz.

Jerry Dean Kautz (1943-2023)

Mary Ann (Shirley) Norgaard passed away at the Senior Living Choices Assisted Living Facility in Curtis, Nebraska on Monday, July 3, 2023 at the age of 91 with her family at her side.

Mary Ann was born January 2, 1932 at their rural home near Stockville, Nebraska to Thomas Clarence and Isabell Irene (Wagner) Shirley where she was the youngest of 6 children. During her childhood she lived in several locations in Frontier County, Nebraska. She attended high school at U.N.S.A in Curtis, Nebraska graduating in 1949 with Normal Training. Following graduation, Mary Ann taught at a rural schoolhouse west of Maywood. She was united in marriage to Arlo Ray Norgaard June 8, 1952. They made their home on the Norgaard farm west of Maywood, Nebraska. Three children were born to this union: Vana, Vernon and Vicky.

Mary Ann enjoyed helping Arlo on the farm, caring for the family, gardening and playing the piano. She spent many hours preserving the bounties from her garden for her family to enjoy; Mary Ann had a fabulous green thumb and was the envy of many. In 1991, Mary Ann and Arlo moved to town where she continued to garden and raise beautiful roses. She lost the love of her life, Arlo, in 2007. She continued to live at home and care for her family, especially her grandchildren. &nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her parents, Isabell and Thomas, husband Arlo, sister Margaret (Jerry) Boner, bothers Thomas (Jean), William (Vera), James, and Robert. &nbsp;

Those left to celebrate her life include her children; Vana LaVonne (Max) Hejtmanek, Orleans, Nebraska; Vernon Ray (Brandi) Norgaard, Maywood, Nebraska; Vicky Ann (Neil) Hendricks, Oconto, Nebraska. Grandchildren, Amanda Terrell (Jason), Jacqueline Broeker (Matt), Daniel Hejtmanek (Megan), Clinton Norgaard, Melody Jensen (Cash), Jennifer Flood (Jim), Sarah Plonkey (Kent), Clayton Hendricks (McKenzie), Trisha Vest (Dan). 16 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, Sister-in-law Jean Shirley.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Harry was born on May 29, 1925 in Sutherland, NE to Harry Lee Sr. and Velma Joyce (Purdy) Coleman.&nbsp; He grew up north of Paxton in the Sandhills and would continue to venture up to the original homestead in later years.&nbsp; He attended school in the Sandhills District 56 up to 6th grade, Sandhills District 50 for 7th and 8th, then Shelby, NE for 9th grade, and finally graduated from Sutherland High School in 1942. &nbsp;As one who grew up in those hills, he could vividly recall many stories of his long horse rides to school, whose homestead was just over the next hill or where exactly he first kissed his bride-to-be, Freida Mearle Miller.&nbsp; She was the love of his life, and they were married at the Glen Echo Baptist Church on June 19, 1949 amidst a lovely display of fragrant wild roses. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Harry's first job was with Crow Motors in Paxton where he learned auto mechanics.&nbsp; He also managed the Paxton Motel with Freida from 1955 to 1972.&nbsp; In 1948, he was hired as a laborer with the Nebraska Public Power District.&nbsp; He would later hold the titles of Truck Driver, CAT operator and in 1965 became a dragline operator which he maintained for the next 35 years until his retirement on March 1, 2000.&nbsp; Being in the dragline was a true joy to him as he could operate it with dexterity and true expertise.&nbsp; According to Harry, nothing was as peaceful as picking up rocks and smoothing them out on the banks of the NPPD irrigation canal.&nbsp; Harry was honored by NPPD after 52 years of service, retiring at the age of 75. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; As a resident of Paxton, Harry was involved in community affairs, including sitting on the Paxton Town Board.&nbsp; He became a Christian at a tent revival and was a lifelong member of the Paxton Methodist Church where he taught adult Sunday School for many years.&nbsp; He also sat on the Paxton Consolidated School Board for a total of 8 years.&nbsp; His pride and joy were his Paxton home and property.&nbsp; His house was originally occupied by his grandfather, Francis Coleman.&nbsp; He loved taking care of the lawn, burning firewood in the wood stove, and the smell and beauty of the blue spruce trees that he had originally planted.&nbsp; He also took great pride in his cars and the fact that he never once received a traffic violation!&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Harry's other pride and joy was his family.&nbsp; He never missed a sporting event or concert that one of his three boys participated in, including football, basketball and baseball.&nbsp; He also took his family on annual camping vacations every summer, traveling by car to almost every state.&nbsp; His favorite spots were the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks.&nbsp;The family had many adventures, including climbing to the top of Long’s Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park, hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, camping overnight, and hiking out the next day.&nbsp; These adventures were recorded with the over 10,000 35mm slide pictures that Harry took while on vacation - he was known to always have a camera on hand!

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Harry saw an amazing amount of progress in his 97 years and was never afraid to embrace the newest technology, being it stereo records, compact discs, laptops, smart TVs, Amazon Alexa or smart phones.&nbsp; He loved listening to old time country music, especially Eddie Arnold and the Sons of the Pioneers.&nbsp; He could solve any mechanical problem and always had just the right tool to fix anything.&nbsp; Most of all, Harry will be missed as an upstanding man, full of integrity and honesty.&nbsp; His love of God, Country and Family have been passed down for 3 generations and will continue to be carried on by those that loved him most.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include his three sons, Randy (Norma) Coleman of Lincoln, NE, Dirk (Gloria) Coleman of Oveido, FL, and Terry (Cindy) Coleman of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren, Andrea Coleman, Allison (Jeff) Aernie, Arica (Travis) Worsham; Philip (Casey) Coleman, Marshall (Pam) Coleman, and Felicia (Lamar) Coleman; Angela Coleman, Alicia (Geovany) Quezada, eight great-grandchildren;&nbsp;a sister, Virginia Crook of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister-in-law, Frances Stevens of Paxton, NE; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life for Harry L. Coleman, Jr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. MDT on July 15, 2023, at the Paxton United Methodist Church in Paxton, NE. Inurnment will be held immediately following at the Paxton Cemetery with lunch provided at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Paxton Methodist Church or the Paxton Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are being handled by Adams &amp; Swanson Funeral Home.
