Michael James Green, of McCook, NE, passed away at his home on June 26, 2023, at the age of 67.

Michael was born in North Platte, NE on March 12, 1956, to parents William and Arline (Kramer) Green. Michael grew up in North Platte, but the family moved to McCook, where he graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1974. Michael stayed in McCook where he was an HVAC technician.

Michael fell in love with Beverly Baxter, and they were married in Palisade, NE on Valentine’s Day in 1981. Together they raised three children: Cassandra, Matthew, and Nicole.

Michael was diagnosed with diabetes when he was seven, but even with this setback in life, it never stopped him from always going out of his way for others and trying to bring a smile to others’ faces. Michael was a history buff, an artist with sheet metal work, and a drummer for local bands. He enjoyed going on drives around town, supporting his grandkids in their events, telling very corny jokes and his family time was very important.

He was an active church goer at the First Congregation Church, permit lifetime member of the McCook Masonic Lodge #135 , and rang the bell for the Salvation Army around Christmas time.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and granddaughter, Serena Green.

Those left to celebrate Michael’s life are his wife, Beverly Green; son, Matthew (Dr. Tiffany) Green of Houston, Texas; daughters, Cassandra (Kenny McMurtrie) Harrison of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Nicole (Chris) Leyba of McCook, NE; brother Bill (Sally) Green of Richland, Washington; sisters, Barbara Lem of Eugene, Oregon, Peggy Mason of California City, California, and Patty (Tom) Howard of Beaverton, Oregon; grandchildren, William, Caleb, Alessandra, Lottie, Weston, Rory, Melody, Theseus, and Elias; and as well as numerous &nbsp;extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the First Congregational Church, McCook, with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDFR), 11902 Brinley Ave, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40243.

Larry John (Lala) Maloof, age 51, passed away on June 26, 2023 in Sutherland, NE.

Larry was born in Salt Lake City, UT on May 15, 1972.&nbsp; Larry grew up in Chesterfield, UT and lived there until 2002. He moved to Imperial, NE for a couple of years, then moved to Champion, NE until his health started to fail in 2018. He resided at Hillcrest Nursing home in McCook, NE for rehab for a couple of years.&nbsp; He then went to Liberty House in North Platte, NE in assisted living. He resided there for a couple of years until his health deteriorated, he then resided at Azria Health in Sutherland for the remainder of his life.&nbsp;

Larry went home to our Lord on June 26, 2023. Larry loved music, fishing, camping and horses. Larry loved his daughter Kimberly Brown and his nephews Troy McDaniel and Cody McDaniel.&nbsp;

Larry is survived by his living sisters Sherlynn (James) Kirk of Palisade, NE, and Rhonda (Lamar) McDaniel of West Valley City, UT; his daughter Kimberly Brown of East Carbon, Utah; his son Nate Timms, of West Valley City, UT; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Larry was proceeded in death by his parents Edward (Larry) and Jeanene Maloof; his brother Troy Maloof; nephew Samuel McDaniel; niece Cheala Bateman; great niece Kyla Martinez; maternal grandparents Ruth Jorgensen and Doyle Sheppard; paternal grandparents Edward Maloof and Shirley Aerts, aunts Doyleen Iverson and Emily Johnson; and cousin Nyssa Rivera.

Jerry L. Chrisp, 81 passed October, 21, 2022, at Linden Court, North Platte Nebraska. He was born June 13, 1941 in Custer County, Nebraska, the son of Carl and Thelma (Glendy) Chrisp.

Jerry attended Broken Bow High school graduating in 1959, where he lettered in band, and was active in 4-H and FFA. He attended Kearney State College receiving his Teaching Degree in Music. Jerry was known for his perfect pitch and played the tuba through his college years.

After graduating, Jerry taught in several schools, including Dix and Callaway, NE, and Sheridan, and Pindale, WY, and also tuned pianos. Jerry enjoyed all of his summer vacations as much as the students, and was known to leave as soon as school was out, to travel with his good friend Ed Howard. They traveled as far west and east as they could go, and also into Mexico and Canada. After ending his teaching career, he returned to help at the family Farm in Broken Bow, later purchasing his own place outside of Sargent, Nebraska where he raised cows and had a dairy quality alfalfa operation. Jerry enjoyed his coffee groups and could strike up conversations wherever he was. After taking up square dancing, he met and married Carol (Benzen) Gordon in 1993, they continued to live in Sargent until moving to North Platte. After his wife’s passing Jerry resided in Hershey, Nebraska.

Jerry is survived by, step-children Tim Gordon, Oakland AR, and Polly (Gordon) Dimmitt, Pierre, SD, grandchildren Brenna and Gracie Dimmitt of Pierre, SD, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, and grand nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence Chrisp, sisters, Imogene Regorrah, and June Stone and his wife Carol (Benzen) Chrisp, and numerous members of his coffee crews.

There will be a graveside service on July 8th, 2023 at 10:30 am at Ash Hollow Cemetery, Lewellen Nebraska, officiated by Pastor Park.

Linda Tausan of Ogallala, Nebraska, died February 2, 2023, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, MS.

At the time of her passing, Linda was 78 years old. She was born on August 24, 1944, to Keith DeWayne and Marvel Adell (Sanders) Magnuson in Sutherland, NE. Linda grew up on the George McGinley ranch in Keystone.&nbsp;

She attended District 39 grade school, which was a one-room schoolhouse, and that she not so fondly remembered had an outhouse. She did, however, fondly remember life on the ranch, riding horses, playing in the creek with her sisters and cousins, brandings, and board games with her family during the long winters.

Linda graduated from Ogallala High School in 1961 and then attended Parks Business School in Denver, CO. She could easily take dictation, having mastered shorthand, and could type with amazing speed and accuracy. As a professional secretary, Linda worked for McGinley Lane Law Firm in Ogallala for ten years.&nbsp;

In 1977 the family moved to Sutherland, where Linda worked for NPPD and then as the secretary for Sutherland Public Schools. Her kids loved this job because it meant no more walking to school, especially during the winter. In 1983 Linda and her kids moved to Little Rock, AR, where she worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance until her retirement.

After retirement, Linda moved back to Ogallala, where she helped care for her father until his death. She also joined and became a life member of the Moose Lodge 1624 and Women of the Moose 122. She served as the Treasurer and received the Star Degree for fulfilling those duties for multiple years. She received the College of Regents, having served in all capacities, including Senior Regent and Past Regent. She helped with every fundraiser and loved every minute spent with her friends at what indeed became her special place.

Linda married Kenneth Tausan in November of 1968, and together they had four children, and she got a bonus stepson. Although their marriage ended, they maintained a &nbsp;friendship, and Kenny was able to generally, annoy her until he died in 2020.

Of all things in her life, nothing brought her more joy than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, which lovingly called her Grammy. She spent as much time in Arkansas and Mississippi as she could every year, attending birthdays, graduations, baseball, softball, and soccer games, happy to be cheering on her grandkids and spending time with her own children. In the weeks preceding her death, Linda was surrounded by her family, enjoying life, laughter, and a few cold beers.

Linda is survived by her only sister, Jean Magnuson of Ogallala, and her four children, Gerri (Tommy Joe) Miller of Brookhaven, MS, Jeani Davis of Cabot, AR, K.D. Tausan of England, AR and Crystal (Chad) Moore of Greenbrier, AR and stepson Monty Belsky of Rapid City, SD. Grandchildren Myles Tipton, Madi and Maney Miller, Brandon, Jake and Sawyer Davis, Kourtney and Kennedy Tausan, Hunter McGraw and Tess Gordon, Kinley Moore, Kash Moore, and five great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by very special cousins, Janice Magnuson and Roberta Walker, special niece, and nephew Melanie Meyer and Jeremy Kudrna and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Justin Davis, granddaughter Hannah Davis, and special cousin Barbara Magnuson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 10:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Ogallala, burial of her ashes at the Ogallala Cemetery, followed by a celebration of her life and luncheon at the Moose Lodge.

Linda Tausan (1944-2023)

Todd Ruser, 61, of Kansas City, Missouri, previously of Ogallala, passed away on June 30, 2023, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Born to Kenneth and Shirley (Kramer) Ruser on August 3, 1961, Todd graduated from Ogallala High School before completing his undergraduate studies in Kansas City. However, a hand injury prevented him from becoming a court reporter.

Todd found his niche working as a wine consultant. His roles in private clubs and country clubs led him to Lukas Wine and Spirits, where he flourished, pulling from his breadth of knowledge and attentiveness to nuance.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Todd was recognized for his artistic talents. He was blessed with a beautiful singing voice that he generously shared at weddings and during his younger years as a participant in the Front Street shows. He could also play the piano by ear.

Todd was fascinated by architecture and interior design, and he channeled his proficiency into assisting family and friends with their projects.

Todd was known for his deeply giving heart and his thoughtful, compassionate way. His generosity extended beyond his family, as he was always willing to lend an ear or a hand to those in need. Todd had recently been dividing time between Kansas City and Ogallala to be present with his mother, Shirley, in the wake of Ken's recent passing in March.

Todd was preceded in death by his father, Ken Ruser, and three infant brothers, Mark, James, and Steven. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Ruser; his sisters, Candi (Myron) Harms and Dawn (John) Lotshaw; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Todd Ruser (1961-2023)

Janet Arlene Miller Johnson, 81, passed away on July 3, 2023, in Waco, TX.

Janet was born April 18, 1942, to Raymond and Margaret (King) Miller in Lansing, Michigan. She has shared many great memories of growing up with her siblings, and she believed that all experiences in life created her personality.

Janet married John Cox in 1958. After having two children together, Janet and John chose different life paths, and she then married George Johnson in 1962. They lived in Michigan and Nebraska.&nbsp;

Janet proudly returned to get her GED later in life and was in the 3rd graduating LPN program at North Platte Community College. Her nursing career included 42 years of service at Golden Ours in Grant, Nebraska. Janet became a widow in 2014 after 52 years of marriage. &nbsp;

Throughout her life, she enjoyed softball (in her younger years), quilting, gardening, camping, learning about nature, and watching her expanding family grow. She was an avid crossword solver and loved watching Jeopardy. Janet also had a perpetual soft spot for animals, especially cats.&nbsp;

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Richard Miller, and sisters Beverley Kosloski and Shirley Felice.&nbsp;

Survivors include her brother, Edward (June) Miller of Springvale, ME; brother-in-law, Joe Felice of Holt, MI; daughters, Jackie (Rick) Ochsner of Grant, Denise (Russell) Lee of Madrid, Karen (Kenneth Micheal) Malmkar of Waco, TX; sons, Keith (Barb) Cox of North Platte, David (Lisa) Johnson of North Platte/Baton Rouge, LA, and Chris (Maria) Johnson of Venango. Janet was also blessed with her 15 grandchildren, who, in turn, have blessed her with 28 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Her nursing career included 42 years of service at Golden Ours in Grant, Nebraska. Janet became a widow in 2014 after 52 years of marriage. &nbsp;Throughout her life, she enjoyed softball (in her younger years), quilting, gardening, camping, learning about nature, and watching her expanding family grow. She was an avid crossword solver and loved watching Jeopardy. Janet also had a perpetual soft spot for animals, especially cats.&nbsp;Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Richard Miller, and sisters Beverley Kosloski and Shirley Felice.&nbsp;Survivors include her brother, Edward (June) Miller of Springvale, ME; brother-in-law, Joe Felice of Holt, MI; daughters, Jackie (Rick) Ochsner of Grant, Denise (Russell) Lee of Madrid, Karen (Kenneth Micheal) Malmkar of Waco, TX; sons, Keith (Barb) Cox of North Platte, David (Lisa) Johnson of North Platte/Baton Rouge, LA, and Chris (Maria) Johnson of Venango. Janet Arlene Johnson (1942-2023)

&nbsp; Steven Dean Yost of Haigler, Nebraska was born March 23, 1950, to Robert Dean and Arnita Arlene (Himberg) Yost in Benkelman, Nebraska. He passed away peacefully at his home Friday, June 30, 2023. His childhood was filled with "farm chores" with his brother, parents and grandparents. He had a lifelong love of animals and agriculture-which he luckily passed on to his family. He was tenderhearted to all animals, especially the young ones and until he left this earth on Friday, he was still hand feeding cake to his favorite cows. Steve attended Campion Academy in Loveland, Colorado until 1967, when he chose what would become his permanent hometown of Haigler, NE. He attended Haigler Public School in 1967 and from that point on was committed to working on the family farm. In 1968, he married Theresa Marie (Blecha) and from that union came Shelly in 1969 and Tina in 1971. Steve was dedicated to the Haigler community as he served on the Haigler school board and Haigler volunteer fire board for many years as well as serving on the St. Francis Co-Op board. Always one to have multiple irons in the fire, Steve managed Cheyenne County Feeders while feeding his own cattle and caring for cattle pairs on the ranch and farming. He was dedicated to helping other people achieve their goals as he was a stepping stone for Barb Wheaton to achieve her goal of turning the Haigler Café into a thriving business. Steve was well-known to area sale barns and spent recent years as a cattle buyer and cattle feeder. Steve was a passionate race fan and took memorable trips with his grandson to local dirt track and NASCAR races - as well as an annual competition between family members to pick the winner of the NASCAR season (some cheating may have been involved). The highlight of Steve's life was to watch his only grandchild, Trevin graduate college. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Arnita Yost. Survivors include wife of 54 years Terry of Imperial, NE, mother- in-law Jean Blecha of Benkelman, Nebraska, daughters Shelly Yost of Aurora, NE and Tina Martin of Omaha, NE and only grandson Trevin Martin of Omaha, NE. Steven D Yost (1950-2023)

Mary "Nadean" Stoney passed away in Cozad, Nebraska on June 27, 2023 at the age of 92.

Nadean was born on September 20, 1930 to parents William and Mamie (Fiala) Jennings.&nbsp; She graduated Decatur County High School with the Class of 1948.&nbsp; That same year, she married the love of her life, Edward Harold Stoney, on September 30th.&nbsp; They made their home in Oberlin, Kansas, and then later in Indianola, Nebraska where they fed America by farming.&nbsp; Together, Edward and Nadean were blessed with their seven children:&nbsp; Jerry, Jane, Joyce, Janet, Julie, Jody, and an infant daughter that passed, Edna Jean.

After Edward's passing in 1994, Nadean moved into her mother's house in Oberlin, Kansas.&nbsp; She worked a TRW and then later, enjoyed cooking at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

Nadean created beautiful work with her sewing and quilting skills.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening and loved dancing, especially Polka.&nbsp; She was a devoted member of the St. Catherine's Church, and was a past president of the Alter Society.&nbsp; She was a member of the American Sacred Heart of Oberlin, Kansas, Royal Neighbors, and Widowers &amp; Friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; infant daughter, Edna Jean; two brothers, Lawrence and James Jennings; a son, Jerry Stoney; and daughter-in-law, Waunita Stoney.

Those left to celebrate Nadean's life are her daughters, Jan (Pete) Jareske of Cozad, NE, Joyce Honeyman of McCook, NE, Janet (Kevin) Myers of Arvada, CO, Julie (Allen) Miles of North Platte, NE, and Jody Skidmore of Aurora, NE; sister, Better Carlton of Keno, OR; and 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the St. CAtherine's Catholic Church in Indianola, Nebraska.&nbsp; Burial was in the St. Catholic church Cemetery.

Mary "Nadean" Stoney  (1930-2023)

Robert L. "Bob" Pinion of Hershey, Nebraska peacefully passed away at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska on July 2, 2023 at the age of 82.

Bob was born on October 5, 1940 to Lloyd and Lillie (Sexton) Pinion at North Platte, NE.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm northeast of Hershey and attended country school in the Nichols community, then went to Hershey High School, graduating in 1958.

On June 5, 1960, Bob was united in marriage to Patricia Marie White at the Hershey Methodist church.&nbsp; They made their home on the White family farm south of Hershey, NE where they farmed and ranched with Pat's father and brother, DeWitt and Rodger White.&nbsp; The couple welcomed three sons and just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Bob was active in the Hershey community.&nbsp; He drove a school bus for many years, helped with 4-H, and served on various boards for the telephone company, rural fire district, ESU 16, and Hershey Public Schools.&nbsp; He was a charter member of the Hershey Lions Club and lifetime member of Hershey Methodist Church.

Bob enjoyed many activates which included reading, watching Westerns on TV, raising pugs, and he was a Husker fan.&nbsp; He loved farming, his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Bob especially enjoyed supporting his sons and grandkids in their sporting activities throughout high school and college.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Tom Pinion.

Survivors include Bob's wife, Pat; sons Kyle (Teri) of Kearney, Nebraska, Tal (Kelly) of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Casey (Kimberly) of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren Aaron (Erin) Pinion, Jena (Grant) Schroll, Brooke Pinion, Jake (Macy) Pinion, Dylan Pinion, and Cameron Pinion; great-grandchildren Ivy, Elliott, Eden, paisley, Miles and Decker; his sister, Ellen (Randy) Heil of North Platte, Nebraska; and other family.

Memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. CST on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Hershey United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte, Nebraska.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Patricia Elaine Waters, 84 years of age, of Windsor, Colorado, previously of Fort Collins, Colorado, died on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the Dundy County Hsopital in Benkelman, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was born on August 18, 1938 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Willard Zahl and Eula (Linderman) Zahl.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Patricia was raised in the Nebraska Sandhills of Rock &amp; Keya Paha Counties and, in 1956, graduated from Rock County High School in Bassett, Nebraska where where received Teachers Normal Training.&nbsp; At age 18, she taught school in rural one-room schools, then taught at the elementary school in Newport, Nebraska.&nbsp; Patricia studied at Chadron State College, Wayne State College and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.&nbsp; In the late 1960's, she began working for Poudre R1 School District in Fort Collins as the Assistant Media Coordinator.&nbsp; After approximately 30 years, Patricia retired early from Poudre R-1 and became a succesful realtor in Fort Collins and Windsor, Colorado. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Patricia married Raymond Fredrick Waters in Fort Collins, Colorodo.&nbsp; Mr. Waters passed away in 1985. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Also preceding her in death were her parents, her sister, Carol Haight, and brother-in-law, Merlyn Haight. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Patricia is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Scott) Fraser of Windsor, Colorodo; grandson, Zachary Taylor and Elijah Fraser; great-granddaughter, Cassidy Taylor; and brother, Bill (Linda) Zahl of Stratton, Nebraska; neices, Tami (Brad) Knuth, Marci (Aaron) Sis, and Kelsi (Aaron) Rogers; nephews, Merlyn W. Judy Jones  (1947-2023)

Lola Gene Leitner, age 92, passed away on June 29, 2023 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born on October 17, 1930 in Yoder, Wyoming to Winnett (Pete) and Vera (Evans) Jones.

Lola grew up in the Grant and McCook areas and attended schools there. She married Barrnett (Barney) Leitner on November 17, 1946 in Oberlin, Kansas. They were blessed with three sons, Royce, Laney and Dennis. They lived on a farm in rural McCook for 60 plus years. Lola enjoyed sewing, painting, ceramics, macrame and reading. She also had a great love for animals. Barney and Lola traveled and enjoyed riding their motorcycles. In later years they enjoyed camping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Karol, Everett and Owen, and sister Vera Belle Scott.

She is survived by sons Royce (wife Vicky) of Oberlin, KS, Laney (wife Judy) of Lincoln, NE, and Dennis (wife Linda) of North Platte, NE; nine grandchildren, Alissa McDonald, Ryan, Roland, Chris, and Lyn Leitner, Mandy Ballinger, DeLynna Schilz, Matthew Leitner, Andrea Glenn; great-grandchildren, Albany Ireland, Nicholas and Ezra McDonald, Grady, Rhianna, Brevan, Isaac, Caroline, Violet, Ainsley, Graci, Olivia, Mallory and Bailey Leitner, Karley Schilz, Brooklyn, Sydney, Cheyenne, Madison and Michael Leitner, Amberlynn, Bentley and Kylie Glenn; sister, Karen Stevenson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Marie Elizabeth Ritterbush Jones was born on February 26, 1937 in Hay Springs, NE to Harold Ritterbush and Bernice (Wood) Ritterbush.&nbsp; The famly moved to Chadron, NE and later to the Gates area before moving to Broken Bow, NE where she graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1955.&nbsp; Marie married Darrell Lee Jones on February 27, 1956 at the First Christian Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Hubbell, Jr. officiating.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Broken Bow.&nbsp; Three children were born to this union:&nbsp; Rick, Jodeen, and Randy.

Marie enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and sewing clothes for her family.&nbsp; She made many beautiful blankets and doilies.&nbsp; She was known to have won the Powder Puff Derby at the Stock Car Races; and Darrell and Marie loved to dance, even winning the dance contest at the local bar.&nbsp; They loved playing cards with their friends, especially Pinochle, and going bowling.&nbsp; Marie was an avid bowler and she participated in the City and State Tournaments for 53 years.

Marie worked as a cashier at Safeway for many years and when the stored closed in Broken Bow, she went to work at the Grocery kart.&nbsp; After retiring, Marie worked at the City Café part time.&nbsp; Marie's greatest joy when she retired were her family, playing cards with the girls, and her word search puzzles.

Marie is survived by her children, Rick (Deanna) Jones of Broken Bow, NE, Jodeen (Anthony) Dennis of Berwyn, NE, and Randy (Jeri) Jones of Broken Bow, NE; six grandchildren Mike, Amber, Jeromy, Teresa, Zach, and Jenna; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruby Poirer of Arizona; sisters-in-law Glenda Ritterbush of Wyoming and Dottie Winbolt of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law Don Jones of Ansley, NE; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her parents, Harold and Bernice; two great-grandsons Evan Cunningham; and Elijah Jones; two brothers, Doug Ritterbush and Wayne Ritterbush; in-laws Lawrence and Beatrice Jones; sister and brother-in-law, Darlen and Loren Wolsleben; sister-in-law, Marge Jones; brother-in-law, Swede Winbolt, nephews Danny Clifford, Doug Clifford, Dennis Wolsleben, and Doug Jones; and a niece, Candy Jones.

LaVern Frank Ehlers, age 88, of North Platte, Nebraska died July 1, 2023 at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte. &nbsp;He was born on January 7, 1935 in Moorefield, Nebraska to William and Rosa (Gygax) Ehlers. In his early years, he attended Moorefield Bethel School. &nbsp;He later worked on the family farm and for neighbor farms before moving to Curtis, Nebraska where he worked as a plumber.

In Curtis, he also worked at Watkins Products. &nbsp;LaVern then moved to North Platte, where he worked for the State of Nebraska for 5 years. &nbsp;He then hired out on the Union Pacific and worked for 25 ½ years, retiring in 2000. &nbsp;He then went to work for Wal-Mart and stayed on for three years. &nbsp;LaVern married Thelma Mora on November 1, 1975 in North Platte. &nbsp;He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Machinist's Union.

Survivors include his wife Thelma of North Platte; a sister, Linda (Wenzel) Kahler of North Platte; and several other family members and friends. &nbsp;

Rodney Dale Weitzel, age 66 of North Platte, NE passed away on June 29, 2023 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. He was born to Harold and Charlotte Gress Weitzel on August 4, 1956 in North Platte, NE

He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1974. He hired on the Union Pacific Railroad starting on the steel gang in Grand Island, NE working his way up to conductor. &nbsp;He married Debra Smith on August 21, 1976 in Grand Island, NE. The couple moved to North Platte in 1982 when he transferred with UPRR. &nbsp;He happily retired in 2016.

Rodney was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; he loved lawn and car maintenance and tinkering around and being busy. He spent much time volunteering at the church in his retirement, and he loved to travel, especially to the beach.&nbsp;

Rodney will be remembered as family centered, and loved to follow his grandchildren’s activities and spent much time with them.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; grandson, Daniel Wiezorek; and&nbsp;granddaughter, Alexis Wiezorek.

James “Jim” “J.P.” Paul Manary, age 82, of North Platte, Nebraska died June 30, 2023 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. &nbsp;He was born on September 7, 1940 in North Platte to James A. and Pauline L. (Tucker) Manary. &nbsp;Jim graduated from North Platte High School in 1958. &nbsp;After graduation he worked as a surveyor and at Hoppe Lumber.

Jim married Diana Thompson in 1958 and to this union two sons were born, Monty and Kevin. &nbsp;He hired out with the Union Pacific and retired from there as a conductor. &nbsp;On February 17, 2001, Jim married Joan Lamphear in North Platte. &nbsp;Jim lived on a ranch north of North Platte and had always ranched but became more involved after his retirement from the railroad. &nbsp;He enjoyed the ranch life and spent much time at the sale barn, and tending to his cattle. &nbsp;He will be remembered for the love of his dogs, Corkie and Spot.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Joan of North Platte, NE; siblings, Rich (Jan) Manary of North Platte, NE and Dale (Becky) Manary of Wallace, NE; step-children, Donald White, Sherry (Sam) Baker, and Alan White, all of North Platte; step grandchildren, Josh Zwickl of North Platte, Crystal Cassell of Florida, Nathan Zwickl of North Platte, and Lance (Kortney) Zwickl of Wellfleet; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. &nbsp;

James Paul 'Jim' Manary  (1940-2023)

On June 30, 2023, at the age of 74, Sandra Kay "Sandee" Berggren peacefully passed away surrounded by her family.

Sandee was born on August 24, 1948 to Ben and Clara Lee in North Platte, Nebraska.&nbsp; She grew up in North Platte where she was a life-long member of First Christian Church.&nbsp; Sandee graduated from North Platte High School with the Class of 1966, then attended business school.

On July 31, 1970, Sandee was united in marriage to Russell Berggren in Lakewood, Colorado, where they lived until returning to North Platte the following year.&nbsp;

Sandee worked various jobs over the years, beginning as a desk clerk at the old Pawnee Hotel, then in food service at Buffalo Elementary and Madison Junior High Schools, and later was a cashier for Shopko until they closed.&nbsp; But her favorite thing was being a mom and homemaker.&nbsp; Along with her family, Sandee loved animals and flowers and enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Ben Lee; and sister-in-law, Beth Lee.

Sandee leaves behind her husband, Russ, and their children, Christopher (Amy) Berggren, Kelli (Todd) Smith, and Jenifer (Chris) Foust, all of North Platte, NE; siblings Bruce Lee of Middletown, MA and Karen Killham of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Justin, Madilyn, Alex, Clare, Raven, Ransley, Reece, and Riley; great-grandchildren, Parker and Grant; her aunt, Dorothy Miller of LaVista, NE; and many extended family members.

Sandra Kay "Sandee" Berggren  (1948-2023)

Bernard Spencer Mccarron was a man of faith, honored to share his faith, and one who deeply loved family and friends. He and his wife Trish were members of the Berean Bible Church in Broken Bow, NE.

He was born August 8, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to Bernard and Louise Spencer Mccarron. Growing up in Avondale, Maryland, he graduated from Northwestern Senior High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, in 1964. He joined the army and served his country from Jan. 19, 1966 - Jan. 16, 1970, spending two years in Ethiopia working in heavy transportation, then the Ambulance Corp with Chaplains' services, at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Having a love of driving, Spencer started a truck brokerage Company in Maryland -Mikelly Enterprises - named after his two oldest children. The company is still in business today and is managed by his daughter Shannon.

Spencer relocated to Las Vegas to facilitate logistics for International Trade Shows with TWI. He met Trish in 1998 prior to moving to Las Vegas and they were married on July 9, 2000, at Little Chapel of the West in Las Vegas. While working in the trade show industry he was able to pursue their deep love of travel. He was blessed to be able to travel the world many times over. Spencer was at home no matter where in the world he was. From Paris to London to Dubai he made friends and was always eager to share his faith over a cold Guinness or a hot cup of coffee. Spencer had a love of good wine and sharing great food with friends.

The relationship he had with his children and grandchildren were of the utmost importance to him. He was always supportive no matter the circumstances. He went above and beyond to be a good example of a father. He filled their childhoods with boating trips, flights in his airplane, cheers from the sidelines and unwavering support and love. No matter where in the world he was, he made sure to answer the phone.

Spencer's family includes his loving wife of 23 years Trish Mccarron. Four children from a previous marriage to Karen Jean Armes; Michael Spencer Mccarron (wife Cristen), Kelly Jean O'Donnell, Shannon Lee Remson and Katelyn Louise Mccarron; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and his sister Patricia Purks.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Brendon Mccarron, his great grandson Elias Sage O'Donnell, and his parents, Bernard F and Louise Spencer Mccarron.

Spencer was laid to rest July 3, 2023, at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska, with military honors, Pastor Larry DeMoss officiating. A celebration of life is planned for July 29, 2023, at Lighthouse Church in Glen Burnie, MD at 11am. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Kenneth J Smith (1944-2023)

Theodore Franklin “Ted” Dowhower, 66 of North Platte, passed away June 27, 2023 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;He was born February 3, 1957 to Franklin and Eleanor (Flint) Dowhower in North Platte.

Ted attended and then graduated from North Platte High School in 1975. &nbsp;He hired on with Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist and retired on February 3, 2017. &nbsp;He married Brenda Bradley on December 21, 1974 in Arvada, CO. &nbsp;They moved South of Tryon where he loved to be, close to his family’s homestead.

Ted enjoyed woodworking, fishing, pickle ball, and travelling to Yuma, AZ where they wintered the last six years. &nbsp;He helped many people with mechanical repairs in McPherson County and liked to overhaul tractors. &nbsp;Ted was an excellent carpenter and loved to build.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda of North Platte; mother, Eleanor “Jean” Dowhower of North Platte; children, Dirk (Serena) Dowhower of North Platte, Tim (Ashley) Dowhower of Lincoln, Wendi Thompson of North Platte; grandchildren, Layne Dowhower, Franklin (Morgan) Dowhower, Nathan Dowhower, Kadence Dowhower, Calvin (Rose Hackbarth) Dowhower, Sierra (Curtis Tagwerker) Dowhower, Emma Dowhower, Molly Carson, Ronni (Miklo Yanes) Dowhower, Shyann Gilbert, Teddy (Reagan Hudson) Gilbert, Jonathan Gilbert; great grandchildren, Isabella, Franklin, Mia; siblings, Lucy (Jeff) Maxwell of Lemoyne, Thomas (Debra) Dowhower of North Platte, Susie Empfield of North Platte, Jeffrey Dowhower of North Platte; numerous other family members and many friends.

Bonnie Kay Goodnight, born December 17, 1938 in Julesberg, Colorado, passed into the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by her children on June 20 in Colorado Springs. The only child born to Ruby Newlin(Sisson) and Melvin(Jack) Newlin, she attended a country school on the south table near Oshkosh, Nebraska. She graduated from Garden County High School in 1956 and received an Associates degree from A&amp;M/Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Co. While at CSU, she pledged the Kappa Delta sorority where wonderful friends and memories were made and in 1957 was voted CSU’s Homecoming Queen.&nbsp; She married Mert VanNewkirk in 1959 and had two children: Shari VanNewkirk (Hall) and Scott VanNewkirk. In 1983, she married Earle (Bud) Goodnight in Fort Collins, Co. Bonnie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Bunco, golf, and traveling with friends and family. A farm girl at heart having grown up on a wheat farm, was a spectacular cook and animal lover. She cherished her beloved pets, both her own and those inherited from her children. She lived her last 2 years at Liberty Heights Skilled Nursing &amp; Rehabilitation where she made special friendships with residents and staff. They took such great care of our mother, and we are forever grateful.&nbsp; Mom/Nama will live forever in our hearts and is survived by daughter Shari and son Scott (Heidi), grandchildren Jordan (Cassie) Hall, Jillian (Yeison) Sotelo, Jayce Hall, Jenson (Emma) Hall, Tanner VanNewkirk and Brynn VanNewkirk. She lived her last 2 years at Liberty Heights Skilled Nursing &amp; Rehabilitation where she made special friendships with residents and staff. They took such great care of our mother, and we are forever grateful.&nbsp; Mom/Nama will live forever in our hearts and is survived by daughter Shari and son Scott (Heidi), grandchildren Jordan (Cassie) Hall, Jillian (Yeison) Sotelo, Jayce Hall, Jenson (Emma) Hall, Tanner VanNewkirk and Brynn VanNewkirk. Marian Cochennet 89, of Amarillo was called home on Sunday June 25th, 2023 to be with her Lord and Savior.&nbsp;

Marian was born in Steubenville, Ohio on September 22nd, 1933. She proudly served in the Air Force from October 1951 to October 1955 as a Radio Operator during the Korean War. After leaving the service, she married Charles Cochennet and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1956. &nbsp;Marian was a housewife and also worked for the Lincoln credit bureau for several years between 1961 and 1967. After Chuck retired in 1990, they moved to North Platte, Nebraska to “escape the big city”. Marian also worked for a bakery in North Platte for several years. Chuck passed away in 2013 and she moved to Amarillo and was taken care of by family in 2015 until her passing. &nbsp;

She is survived by her sons: Steve and wife Joann of Amarillo; Greg and wife Susy of Lincoln; Glen and Ana of Omaha, grandchildren: Ryan, Colby, Sara, Madison, and Chloe, as well as four great-grandchildren: Everly, Asher, Bentley, and Baylor. &nbsp;

Marian is preceded in death by her parents: Michael and Mary Bezak, husband: Charles Cochennet, siblings: Robert, Gerald, Michael, Jack, and Sarah. &nbsp;Marian will be sorely missed but the family takes great comfort knowing she is in the arms of Jesus and reunited with her loved ones who proceeded her. &nbsp;

Funeral Service will be held celebrating her life at Memorial Park funeral home in Amarillo, Texas on Friday June 30, 2023. &nbsp;Her burial with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska with Father Vidya Sagar Arikotla officiating. &nbsp;Memorials can be made to the Humane Society in her name. &nbsp;Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte is assisting the family with local arrangements.
