Jeffery Floyd Ross, age 63, of Culbertson, NE passed away at his home in Culbertson on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Jeff was born March 23, 1960 in McCook, NE to parents Robert Floyd and Mary Lou (Ulrich) Ross. He grew up in Culbertson, graduating from Culbertson High School with the Class of 1978. Jeff was confirmed and baptized at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson.

Jeff worked as a Hot Shot fighting forest fires in Montana and also spent time working in the Dallas, TX area before returning to Culbertson in 2001. At that time, he began working for Valley Irrigation while volunteering for the Culbertson Fire Department.

Jeff loved spending time with his friends, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping or enjoying a good BBQ, being together with friends and family was important to Jeff. &nbsp;He was also a huge NASCAR fan and loved Husker Football and the Dallas Cowboys.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to celebrate his life include his son, Kyle Leskiw of Aspen, CO; his aunts and uncles, Heddy Reiners of Hershey, NE, Virginia Mowe of McCook and Raymond (Nancy) Ulrich of Rockledge, FL; as well as numerous extended family members and lifelong friends.

Memorial Services in honor of Jeff are planned for early summer. &nbsp;Information will be announced by Carpenter Breland Funeral Home when it is available.

Elaine (Dode) Boyle 87, of North Platte, passed away Sunday, May 7th&nbsp;surrounded by her loving family. Elaine was born in Central City, NE on October 11th, 1935, to William and Grace E. Hall. She was a high school cheerleader and graduated from NP High School in 1953. She was an active and dedicated member of the First Presbyterian church of North Platte where she served on several committees and assisted with various church events. Elaine’s delicious cookies and apple and pecan bars were always requested favorites for these events.

Elaine began her career with Northwestern Bell at a young age and later retired with over 30 years of service. Elaine was a loyal Huskers fan and loved watching “Her Boys” play. Tom Osbourne personally called to congratulate her on her retirement!

Elaine loved life and lived it to the fullest! She loved music and dancing… and oh could she dance! She loved tea parties and picnics in the park. She loved shopping and lunch with friends. She loved fried chicken and cherry pie. She loved popcorn and cherry Kool-Aid. She loved Crazy 8, Gin Rummy and Solitaire. She loved late-night chats and bubble gum. She loved children and dogs. But…most of all, she loved her kids!

Elaine adored her family and devoted her life to raising her 3 children: Lori Boyle of Boise, Idaho, Mary Jo (Troy) Smith of Forest Grove, Oregon and son, Steven Boyle of Omaha. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother and was so proud of her family!

In addition to her 3 children, she is survived by her 6 grandchildren, Randi (Robert) Pedersen of Boise, Idaho, Jamie (Andy) Pulver of Sherwood, Oregon, Nikki (Johnie) Matthews of Springfield, Oregon, Brandy Jones of Omaha, Daniel Boyle of Omaha, Kaylie Boyle of Honolulu, HI, 9 Great Grandchildren, her sister Willa (Lowell) Fenster and many, many friends. She is preceded in death by her father, William Hall, Mother, Grace E. (Cherry) Hall, and sister Mary Lois (George) Schell.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 23rd&nbsp;at 10:30am at The First Presbyterian Church in North Platte with Graveside Services at North Platte Cemetery immediately following.

Kathryn “Katie” Lynn Lerdall, 49, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on May 13, 2023, at her home in Lexington.

Katie was born on October 12, 1973, in Lexington, Nebraska to Dennis L. and Lila L. (Stoll) Lerdall. She attended Bryan Elementary School and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1994.

Katie was a smiley person who loved to giggle. She could brighten up a room with her laugh. She also loved to sing and listen to music. Katie enjoyed being on the go and would often take herself out for walks around the block and always made it home. You would often find her outside playing with all the neighborhood kids. She was involved in the Special Olympics and loved to race. Katie had quite a sense of humor and loved to play with her sister, Heidi. She would play as Heidi’s personal pony and let her ride on her back, crawl around the room and see how long it would take to buck her off. Katie was also quite sneaky. She was caught a few times hiding M&amp;M’s underneath her bed where she stored them to have as a midnight snack when no one else was around.

Katie is survived by her sister, Heidi (Shawn) Church of Elwood, Nebraska; nieces, Rylee and Jacie Church, of Elwood, Nebraska, aunts and uncles, Don (Marcia) Stoll of Grass Valley, California, Karen Hays of Holdrege, Nebraska, and Terry (Susie) Lerdall of Elwood, Nebraska.

Katie is preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Lila Lerdall; stepfather, Vince Urban and grandparents, Elmer and Margarite Stoll, and Glenn and Dorothy Lerdall.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska.

Katie Lynn Lerdall (1973-2023)

&nbsp; &nbsp; John Kent Nothnagel was born on May 5, 1951 in McCook, Nebraska to Albert Henry and Shirley Lou (McCormick) Nothnagel. &nbsp;He graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1969 and furthered his education at McCook Community College and the University of Nebraska Lincoln.

&nbsp; &nbsp; John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty Zwickl at St. James Catholic Church in Curtis, Nebraska on February 7, 1975. &nbsp;John and Betty made McCook their lifelong home where they raised their three children: Lindsey, Nick, and Matt. &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; John started working as a salesman for CT Jewell Company in 1972, working for his father, Albert. &nbsp;In 1988 John purchased the company and ran the business with Betty until 2012 when CT Jewell Co Moved to Omaha. &nbsp;The company later transitioned to Nick’s Distribution where John continued to work with his entire family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; John enjoyed playing pool, cards, and especially golf! &nbsp;Many summers were spent at Red Willow Lake, boating and fishing. &nbsp;The family also made many trips to Lake Tahoe when the children were young. &nbsp;John loved mowing his yard and was a fan of a good cigar. &nbsp;He was an avid supporter of his grandkids and all of their activities; you could quite often find him driving them around on his golf cart! &nbsp;John was a longtime McCook business owner who took great pride in giving back to his community, a passion he passed on to his children. &nbsp;Anyone that knew John knew that he loved his family and friends fiercely!

&nbsp; &nbsp; John passed away Friday morning, May 12, 2023 at his home in McCook. &nbsp;He was 72 years of age.

&nbsp; &nbsp; John was preceded in death by his father, Albert Nothnagel; brothers, Baby Joe Nothnagel, Louis Nothnagel, and Frank Nothnagel; grandparents, Ken McCormick, Paul Nothnagel and Elizabeth Leonard, and George and Lillian Schaal.

John Nothnagel (1951-2023)

Bonnie M. (Crowley) Stoddard, 89, of North Platte, NE passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Premier Estates Assisted Living in North Platte surrounded by her loving family.

Bonnie was born on January 28, 1934 in Polo, Missouri the daughter of Floyd and Lillian (Holman) Crowley.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bonnie grew up in Polo and graduated from Polo High School in 1951.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was united in marriage to Charles A. Stoddard on April 8, 1951 in Kansas, and together they had two daughters.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1956, they moved to Hershey and later to Sutherland.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked as a clerk in K-Mart, the local grocery store in Hershey and telephone office in Hersey for several years.&nbsp;&nbsp;She retired in 2008 after working in management for Days Inn across NE and IA.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bonnie enjoyed attending races with her husband and listening to Gary Phipps and Rascal Martinez music.&nbsp;&nbsp;She loved spending time with her grandchildren and having them build things for her.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Bonnie enjoyed playing BINGO, sewing, shopping, and word search puzzles.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Kathy (Micheal) Thomlison of North Platte, Sheila (Eddie) Bradshaw of North Platte; six grandchildren, Jamie Thomlison, Jodi (Jason) Pflughaupt, Tina (John) Rosenberg, Gina Hatch, Jackie (Ryan) Schroeder, Felicia Clarke, and Delmer Hostetler; 20 great-grandchildren including Annette (Riley) Cochran; eleven great-great grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Stone of FL; two adopted cabbage patch kids, Chris and Mitzy Hayes; and other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Charles; parents in law, Clarence and Ida (Wilhite) Stoddard; brothers, Wayne, Keith, and Jack Crowley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ned Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery near Maxwell.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17th&nbsp;with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Bonnie M. Stoddard (1934-2023)

&nbsp; Eldon L. Brock, Sr., 86, of Lewellen passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023 at the Azria Health Nursing Home in Sutherland. Eldon was born on June 20, 1936 in Burchard to Donald and Sylvina (Kussman) Brock. On February 28, 1953, Eldon was united in marriage to Mary Ann Sommers. Their union was blessed with three children: Eldon Jr., Mark, and Kevin Brock. Eldon began his career at Goodyear Rubber Company in Lincoln and then transitioned to roofing in Lincoln before moving to Denver where he continued his roofing and framing work. Eldon was involved in manufacturing pre-hung door units before working as a superintendent for a home building company. He eventually decided to open his own home building company which he operated for many years. Eldon dedicated over 50 years to his craft before retiring to Lake McConaughy in the mid-1990s, a place where he and his wife had loved visiting since the early 1970s. Throughout the years, Eldon loved boating and fishing on Lake McConaughy. He always had a project he was working on, whether for himself or one of the community projects that belonged to a neighbor. Eldon also had a great love for animals where both he and Mary Ann always had a big heart for the cats and dogs that came into their lives. Eldon was born on June 20, 1936 in Burchard to Donald and Sylvina (Kussman) Brock. On February 28, 1953, Eldon was united in marriage to Mary Ann Sommers. Their union was blessed with three children: Eldon Jr., Mark, and Kevin Brock. Eldon began his career at Goodyear Rubber Company in Lincoln and then transitioned to roofing in Lincoln before moving to Denver where he continued his roofing and framing work. Eldon was involved in manufacturing pre-hung door units before working as a superintendent for a home building company. He eventually decided to open his own home building company which he operated for many years. Eldon L. Brock, Sr. (1936-2023)

Ranold Calvin Fisher ,69, of Tryon passed away May 11, 2023 at his home.

He was born on February 18, 1954 in North Platte to George Calvin and Dorothy Jean(Wiley) Fisher. Jean later married James Doyle and the family moved to Tryon, where they learned to love ranching.

Randy graduated from McPherson County High School in 1972. He married Kathy Arensdorf on March 9, 1974. To this union a daughter, Melissa and son, Chad were born.

Randy joined the Nebraska National Guard in May, 1974. He left for basic training in Fort Polk, LA in October, 1974.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He was transferred to Fort Sill, OK for advanced training. He belonged to the Airborne Rangers Company and qualified expert rating in rifles. He served three years on the Nuclear Weapons team which was rated top team in the US, overseas and stateside. During his time in the Guards, he also qualified as expert in mortar and grenade. As a Guard member he helped locally during blizzards getting hay and feed to ranchers. He also served in Supply and served as armorer for the unit servicing weapons.

Randy was a 4-H leader and introduced shooting sports to many young people in McPherson County sharing his love of guns and shooting.

Randy loved his family and was very proud of their accomplishments. He attended events if he could and cheered them on at the event or from his recliner at home whether it was volleyball, football, basketball, track, baseball, speech, dance, soccer, music, or aikido. He was proud of the accomplishments they made in school and their careers.

Randy loved his ranching and cows. Branding was his favorite time of year. When he lost the land lease, he sold his cattle and purchased the Ironhorse Steakhouse. He was a good cook. His prime rib was “delish”. He loved to sit and visit with his customers until it got late and then it was time for them to leave, and as many know, there was never a shortage of stories (or perhaps tall tales) to be told. Randy was a member of a mountain man rendezvous group. He attended rendezvous in Chadron, Gordon, Valentine and South Dakota. He loved shooting his flintlock rifle. He also loved hunting and fishing.&nbsp;&nbsp;He rode his motorcycle for a time with the American Veterans Motorcycle Club until he was no longer able.&nbsp;&nbsp;In his “retired” years he was bus driver for McPherson County Schools.

Randy was a member of the American Legion Art Gray Post 189 in Tryon for 44 years. He served as Commander for a time.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Fisher, mother Jean Doyle, stepfather James Doyle and mother-in-law Shirley Arensdorf.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy, daughter, Melissa (Corey)Wacker, son, Chad (Julie) Fisher, grandchildren, Adrian Wacker, Chandler (Ethan) Smith, Brooklynn Fisher and Jackson Fisher. He is also survived by his brother, Kent (Kathleen) Fisher, sisters, Shannon Fisher and Hannah (Matt) Burch, brothers-in-law, Gary (Pam) Arensdorf, John (Lucy) Arensdorf, sister-in-law, Dee (Russ) Temple, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

Ranold "Randy" C Fisher (1954-2023)

&nbsp; Kevin Daniel Lee, 35, of rural Elsie, NE, died May 10, 2023. Kevin was a graduate of the Perkins County Class of 2006. He attended Southeast Community College in Beatrice, where he graduated with an Associates Degree in Livestock Management in 2009. While at Southeast in Beatrice, Kevin met many lifelong friends with whom he stayed in contact over the years. Kevin quickly put his degree to work by returning back to the family farm South of Elsie. Kevin loved farming and livestock. He had an incredible passion for the land and loved working beside his Dad, grandfather, and great-uncles. Kevin was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie and the Perkins County Fairboard. He worked many dances and events, as well as helping wherever he could during the Fair. Kevin loved horses, his herd of cattle, his purple semi, welding projects, sour patch kids, shorts, hunting, golfing, tinkering with things, and his friends. He was an incredibly responsible and hardworking individual. He was always willing to help anyone with any need. He took great pride in helping and working hard. Kevin was greeted in Heaven by his brother, Jared; grandma, Patsy Lee; and grandparents, Raymond and Carolyn Hazzard. Kevin will be forever missed by his parents, Daniel and Patti Lee of Elsie; sister, Courtney and brother-in-law Stetson of Gordon; Brothers, Tyler of Omaha and Adam of Casper, WY; Grandpa, Vince Lee of Elsie; Niece and Nephew, Tenley and Jensen of Gordon, as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Vincent “Chente” Ornelas passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2023 in Brownsville, Texas. He was 76.

Vince was born December 4, 1946, to Fernando and Mary (Briseno) Ornelas. He loved life, his friends, doing DIY projects, being a handyman, giving advice (wanted or not), a good joke (the dirtier the better), Mexican food, especially tacos, nachos, and Dos Equis, and having coffee with his friends. My dad had the best laugh!!

Vince was preceded in death by his son, Vincent "Bunch" Ornelas, Jr. his mother and father, and his sister, Juantia.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Monica (Garry Dodge) Hunt, his granddaughters: Abby, Jessy, Molly, and Afia Hunt, his great grand-children: Kaiden, Teddy, Lee, and Elliana, and niece: Tricia Barajas, his sister: Bessie and her children, his beloved dog, Cinco and Alta.

A celebration of life will be held on May 20, 2023, at the American Legion Hall, 2020 East 4th Street, North Platte, NE at 2pm.

Andrea Olson, 67, of Gothenburg, NE, died May 11, 2023 at her home in rural Gothenburg, NE. &nbsp;

She was born on July 25th, 1955, to her parents Harry and Bertha Pieper in Jordan, MN.&nbsp;

Andrea was a talented musician who played the flute and Oboe. She graduated from Jordan High School. Her expertise in music was honoured when she received the John Phillips Sousa award during her senior year of high school. Andrea went on to pursue a career in education and received a master's degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls after starting at the University of Minnesota.

Andrea enjoyed watching sports games including Gophers Football and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. She also had an outgoing personality that could draw people out of their shells -- she cherished meeting new individuals especially because she valued family so much.

Andrea is survived by special friend Joe Herndon, of Gothenburg, NE; stepson Greg Olson of Jackson, MN; sister Carol (Chuck) Ormston; brother Ken (Mary) Pieper; brother-in-law Don Hartmann; two sister-in-laws Kathy Pieper and Diane Pieper; nieces, Laura Walker, Jill Hartmann, Jane Strobel, Karie Lipinski, Kris Bonner, Katie Melby, Michelle Syvertson, Heidi Jensen, Alyssa Clay; nephews, Bruce Hartmann, Eric Hartmann and Mark Pieper, Luke Hessing, along with many great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death are her spouse, Mark Olson, her sister Jeannie, two brothers, Harry Pieper Jr., and Keith Pieper, brother-in-law Terry Menk, nephew, Brian "Tiger" Pieper, and great-niece Ashley Strobel.

Her kind soul will be greatly missed but also fondly remembered by those who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church, Cozad at 11:00 am with Rev. Jill Boyd officiating.

Interment will follow in the Moorefield cemetery.

Andrea Olson (1955-2023)

Earlene (Ruff) Kuhl, 100, of North Platte, NE formerly of Valentine, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Linden Court.

Earlene was born on December 16, 1922 in North Bend, NE the daughter of Earl and Lula (Settles) Ruff.&nbsp;&nbsp;She grew up in Keya Paha County, attending rural school and graduated with her Bachelors in teaching degree from Chadron State College in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;She began her teaching career in 1940 and was a teacher and librarian in several rural schools and in Valentine for over 50 years, retiring in 1990.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Fred Kuhl on July 22, 1943 in Valentine and together they had a daughter, Connee.&nbsp;&nbsp;Earlene lived in Valentine for most of her life until moving to North Platte in 1999.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Presbyterian Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her grandson, Chris (Suzanne) Sedlmajer of Rochester, MN; granddaughter, Amy (Rob) Smith of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Keifer, Zack, Jarrett, Caleb, Jack, and Lyndee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and daughter, Connee; sisters, Clara Maddox, Betty Cearfoss, and Vera Owens.

A private family graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.&nbsp;&nbsp;Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

 </figure>Earlene (Ruff) Kuhl, 100, of North Platte, NE formerly of Valentine, NE passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Linden Court.Earlene was born on December 16, 1922 in North Bend, NE the daughter of Earl and Lula (Settles) Ruff.&nbsp;&nbsp;She grew up in Keya Paha County, attending rural school and graduated with her Bachelors in teaching degree from Chadron State College in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;She began her teaching career in 1940 and was a teacher and librarian in several rural schools and in Valentine for over 50 years, retiring in 1990.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Fred Kuhl on July 22, 1943 in Valentine and together they had a daughter, Connee.&nbsp;&nbsp;Earlene lived in Valentine for most of her life until moving to North Platte in 1999.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Presbyterian Church.Those left to cherish her memory are her grandson, Chris (Suzanne) Sedlmajer of Rochester, MN; granddaughter, Amy (Rob) Smith of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Keifer, Zack, Jarrett, Caleb, Jack, and Lyndee.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and daughter, Connee; sisters, Clara Maddox, Betty Cearfoss, and Vera Owens.A private family graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.&nbsp;&nbsp;Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.&nbsp;

Loren Alton Mooney, age 39, passed away at his home in Nipomo, California.&nbsp; He was born at Long Beach Memorial Hospital to Rockie and Susan (Locklair) Mooney on March 28, 1984.&nbsp; Loren attended Lampton Elementary, Glazier Elementary, Los Alisos Middle School and graduated from El Camino High School in La Mirada, the class of 2002.&nbsp; He participated in Little League, soccer, and Boy Scouts of America Troop 911 and 533.&nbsp; Loren became an Eagle Scout in February 2002.&nbsp; He was employed at In-n-Out Burger and a movie theatre in Long Beach. In Nipomo, he worked with his stepbrother, Jaime, installing flooring, as well as landscaping, also a bead and jewelry store and on military bases.&nbsp;

Loren spent summers with his grandparents, Leola and Nic Mooney in Holbrook, Nebraska.&nbsp; Chris Kruger and he worked for Clark Andrews pulling weeds and at that time, he got an old lawn mower, that didn’t run, from Bob Johnson.&nbsp; Loren finally got it running and rode it in the Holbrook Days Parade with Chris Kruger and his brother, Nicholas.&nbsp; They came in second place, receiving a blue ribbon and some cash.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Locklair and Nic Mooney.&nbsp;

Loren is survived by his mother, Susan (Jim) Jewel of Nipomo, CA; father, Rockie Mooney; two brothers, Daniel and Nickolas Mooney; grandmother, Leola Mooney all of Norwalk, CA; stepbrother, Jamie (Alejandra) Jewel; and nephew, JC Jewel, each of Nipomo, CA; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe, NE on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Becky Saddler officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery. Loren Alton Mooney (1984-2023)

Adam Steve Rodriguez, 58, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.

He was born on December 5, 1964, in Tempo, Texas to Anastacio Rodriguez and Estella Martinez. Adam and his family spent many years traveling to different states before making their way to Nebraska in the '80s. Once in Nebraska, they lived in Madrid, Lexington and Cozad before making his home in Holdrege.

Adam adored spending time outdoors, working in his garden. He also loved being on his boat, going fishing and spending hours in the sun getting a tan. When he wasn’t outside, he would be in his shop, showing his nephews how to properly fix up a car. Adam was known to be a great storyteller and enjoyed spending time with his family, going on camping trips and telling them stories of the past. He also enjoyed his coffee and cheering on his Dallas Cowboys.

Those left to honor his memory are his daughters, Ruth Esmeralda Moran and Jami Griselda Moran, both of Lexington; four grandchildren; brother, Anastacio Rodriguez Jr of Holdrege; sisters, Angelita (Angel Figueroa) Rodriguez of Holdrege, Rosie (Ramon) Rodriguez of Lexington, and Lynn Rodriguez of Omaha; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Adam is preceded in death by his brother, Nick Rodriguez, and sisters, Beatrice Rodriguez and Barbara Rodriguez.

Adam Steve Rodriguez (1964-2023)

&nbsp; Rene Diaz Sr. of Julesburg, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 10, 2023, at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Rene was born in Julesburg, Colorado, to Trinidad and Ester (Arellano) Diaz. He spent his early years working with his father and brothers on the McGinley farm before his family eventually purchased their own farm, situated in the northeast portion of Sedgwick County, Colorado, halfway between Big Springs and Julesburg. Rene attended Oakwood School in Texas and, later, the Julesburg High School after they relocated back to Colorado. On January 8, 1950, Rene married the love of his life, Simona Navarro, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. Their union was blessed with six children. The couple lived and raised their family on the farm. Rene eventually retired at the age of 84 after spending the better part of a century working in agriculture. Rene was a man of strong character, known for his unwavering optimism, honesty, and generosity. He was a true embodiment of hard work and dedication to his family and farm. Rene's spirit was infectious, always finding ways to share or make others laugh. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, a fisherman, and a man who held his family as his number one priority, with farming coming in a close second. His heart belonged to his grandchildren, and he was a wealth of wisdom with a talent for building anything that his family or farm needed. Rene was preceded in death by his two brothers, Salvador Diaz and James Diaz, and five sisters, Elvira Diaz, Bertha Hernandez, Josephine Blea, Dora Jimenez, and Delia Jiminez. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Simona of Julesburg; children, Rene Diaz Jr. of Piedmont, SD, Ricardo "Richard" Diaz of North Platte, Ramon "Raymond" (Jane) Diaz of Ogallala, Ruben (Karen) Diaz of North Platte, Simona M. Joyce Frederick Anthony, 84, of North Platte, passed away May 10, 2023 at Great Plains Health. He was born December 14, 1938 to Joseph and Alma (Osterthun) Anthony in Wilber, NE.

JF was born and raised in Wilber and graduated from Wilber High School with the class of 1957. After high school, he moved to North Platte and worked for the seining crew at Nebraska Game and Parks. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961.

On August 30, 1964 JF was married to Laura Havens and to this union, three boys were born, Mark, Steve, and Dan. He continued to work for Nebraska Game and Parks for over 40 years and retired in 2000. He worked for the fishery division. JF loved woodworking, fishing and going to garage sales. He liked to tease people and loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include children, Mark (Kristy) Anthony of North Platte, Steve Anthony of Firth, NE, Dan (Jennifer) Anthony of Maxwell; grandchildren, Bryar (Karen) Anthony, Tyler Anthony, Ryley (Andrea) Lavene, Quaid Anthony, Keaton Anthony, Jake Anthony, Paige Anthony; great granddaughter, Charlie; brothers, Vern Anthony, Gary (Jan) Anthony, Gale (Adele) Anthony; sisters-in-law, Donna and Bobbie; numerous other family members and friends.

Joyce Frederick Anthony (1938-2023)

&nbsp;&nbsp; W. Owen Elmer passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in Kearney, Nebraska; he was surrounded by his family. Owen was born on June 13, 1938 at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook, Nebraska to Willard P and Arlene L (Welborn) Elmer. He graduated from Indianola Public Schools and attended UNL until returning to Indianola to help with the family business, Indianola Oil Company.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Owen met Donna Hoyt and after one date they knew they would make a lifetime commitment. They were married on November 1, 1958. Together they welcomed four children. Owen and Donna worked towards bettering their community. Owen, working with employees, educators, and local farmers, made innovations to many farming practices. This forward thinking helped create significant advancements in conservation. His love of flying and people led him to transporting many children to Shriners hospitals all over the country. He also served the area on the Indianola City Council and as a Nebraska State Legislator from 1988-2000.

&nbsp; &nbsp; After retiring from the legislature, he continued his love of engineering with his woodworking projects that he made for his true joy - his family. Owen and Donna loved traveling to all parts of the world. They escaped to Casa Grande, Arizona the last fifteen winters. They enjoyed meeting lots of people as Owen could strike up a conversation with anyone.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Owen represents a life well lived.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Owen is survived by his wife, Donna (Hoyt) Elmer; children: Crinda (Rick) McConville of Indianola, Lewis (Lavenda) Elmer of Briggs, TX, Jeana (Bryan) Kruger of Holbrook, and Sharma (Rob) Dunder of Longmont, CO; “adopted” daughter, Monica (Rafa) Matamoros Panero of Madrid, Spain; along with 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Owen was preceded in death by his parents as well as one grandson, Christopher Kruger.

Willard "Owen" Elmer (1938-2023)

Joseph Ray Lunsford, 75, of Brule, NE passed away Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, NE after a year long battle with lung cancer.

Joe was born on December 27th, 1947 to Luther and Rosa Belle (Wilson) Lunsford at the Clinton Indian Hospital in Clinton, Oklahoma. As a young man, he followed the rodeo circuit, riding bulls. In 1977, he won the PRC bull riding event at Madison Square Garden with a score of 92. Joe moved to Nebraska in the 90's and lived in the Brule/Big Springs area, where he worked for various farmers and ranchers until he retired.

Joseph Ray Lunsford (1947-2023)

Throughout her almost 71 years, Darlene Dainton (Beberniss) was a beacon of care for her family and loved ones. Growing up on a farm as a child, she developed a love for animals and a passion for the outdoors. She was fiercely independent, determined to ensure her family was cared for, and learned the value of hard work.

&nbsp;Darlene was born on May 16, 1952, in Grand Island, NE, as the fourth child of Marvin and Margaret Beberniss (Iseberg). She graduated from Doniphan High School and earned her nursing certificate from St. Francis Nursing Program. In her many years of work, the role of wife, mother, and grandmother gave her the greatest joy. In August of 1994, she was united in marriage to her loving and devoted husband, Lanny Dainton, and together they traveled throughout the United States and the world sharing a mutual passion for all of the beauty of God's earth. Of her many hobbies, it was her animals, camping, and hoping to land that next big fish that brought her pleasure. Her faith that only strengthened with time led her to a lay ministry which included holding bible study at the York Women's Correction Center.

&nbsp;On May 9, with her husband, children, and grandchildren by her side, Darlene set foot in the kingdom of heaven on the fast track toward the rank of a guardian angel. Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are husband Lanny of 28 years, daughters Pam Freese (Donovan) and Jeni Crouch, sons Doug Kuskie (Tara) and Jonathan Crouch (Tommy), stepchildren Lisa Babka (Todd) and Jerry Dainton (Shirley), as well as 8 grandkids, 3 great-grandkids, brothers Russ Beberniss (Kathy) and Roger Beberniss (Brenda), and sister Sherry Larson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darlene Dainton (1952-2023)

Eleanor M. Dewey, age 95, passed peacefully at the home of her son surrounded by family on February 5th, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;Eleanor Kelly was born Aug 1, 1927, west of Stapleton, Nebraska on her grandparents (Miles and Fanny Haddock Brothers) farm, to Clarence and Pearl Brothers Kelly. She was the youngest of 4 children. Her father, Clarence, died on Oct 22, 1934.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1935, she along with her mother and siblings moved into Stapleton.&nbsp;&nbsp;On April 13, 1937, her brother Miles died.&nbsp;

Eleanor attended Stapleton High School graduating in 1946.&nbsp;&nbsp;She met Duane Thomas, a cowboy, at the Stapleton Rodeo.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married on June 17, 1946, in Kearney, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;Eleanor and Duane lived on the Thomas Family Ranch on the banks of the Dismal River from 1946 to 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;They had two children: Dennis and Lynn.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1959, they moved to Palisade, Colorado where they operated a peach orchard for 1 year.&nbsp;&nbsp;They then moved to a ranch near Mack, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1962, they moved to Ansley, NE where they purchased a motel, gas station and drive in, the D&amp;E.&nbsp;&nbsp;On July 19, 1976, she was devastated by the death of her husband, Duane.&nbsp;

Following Duane’s death, she continued to run the motel.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Vern Dewey on Dec 16, 1978.&nbsp;&nbsp;They continued at the motel until 1986 when they moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

They traveled around the country in their RV seeing most of the United States. They traveled to Nebraska each summer to visit their sons until her health deteriorated and she was no longer able to travel in 2013.

Eleanor was a member of the Ansley United Methodist church from 1962 until she moved in 1986.&nbsp;&nbsp;She taught Sunday School, was a member of the UMW and was a faithful follower.&nbsp;&nbsp;She became a member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City.

Eleanor resided in care facilities from 2013 until 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;Vern passed in August 2016. She moved to her son, Lynn’s, home in Castle Rock Colorado in November of 2022 where she resided until her death.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husbands, Duane Thomas and Vern Dewey, her son, Dennis Thomas, her parents, her brothers, Miles and Albert, and sister, Mildred.

She is survived by her son, Lynn and daughter-in-law, Angela Thomas of Castle Rock, Colorado, two grandsons, Brian Thomas and wife Kristina Rodgers of McCook, Nebraska, and Caeden Thomas and partner Sol Thomas of Castle Rock, Colorado, great granddaughter, Serenity Thomas, sister-in-law Patti Sells, her dear friends, Janice and Bill Dewey of Lake Havasu City, AZ, along with nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.

Graveside services will be held at the Broken Bow Township Cemetery, Broken Bow, Nebraska on May 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm.

Eleanor Dewey (1927-2023)

Hugh J. B. Rath, 91 of Lexington passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.

Hugh was born January 24, 1932, in Lewellen, Nebraska, to Clarence E. Bills and Ada M. (Johnson) and was later adopted by Floyd and Doris Rath.

He graduated from Bayard High school in 1949. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War.&nbsp; &nbsp;He trained to be a radio operator and worked as an MP before being discharged in 1952.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1953, he became a police officer in Fairfax County, VA.&nbsp;&nbsp;He then returned to his hometown of Bayard in 1960. There, he served as police chief for two years. In 1962, he moved to Lexington and became police chief, later stepping down to work as assistant chief from 1965 until 1974. In 1974, he moved to Kearney and became the communications technician for the city. In 1993, he became the 911 supervisor for the combined City of Kearney Police Department and the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 2014.

He was very proud of working as a projectionist for the Bayard movie theater and the Majestic Theater and Drive-in, both in Lexington.&nbsp; His spare time was spent fishing and painting watercolor pictures.&nbsp; He loved living at the lake and watching the birds, especially during eagle migration.&nbsp; Later, he cooed songs with the many doves around while he sat outside at the apartment.&nbsp; You couldn't buy corn without him wanting to husk it. The worms didn't bother him at all and he could eat corn for every meal!&nbsp; Playing the harmonica put smiles on many faces.&nbsp; He loved his dogs and those of others and they adored him, fighting over a favorite spot on his lap!&nbsp; His love for fellow man, especially his family, was so deep!&nbsp; His grandkids and their kids gave him delight, as did all kids.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hugh was united in marriage to Doloris Kraigbaum on January 1, 1950, and after her death united in marriage to Eilene M. Wehr on October 29, 2005.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Eilene of Lexington, sons: Steve (Linda) of Elwood, NE, and Mike (Amanda) of Whitney, NE, step-sons: Dave Snyder (Linda) of Fort Collins, CO, and Doug Wehr of Kearney, NE step-daughter, Terri Casper of Lexington, NE, grandchildren:&nbsp; Greg Smith, Amanda Holida, Matt Smith, Nathan Rath, Christopher Rath, Mary Catherine Rath, Brianna Rath, Jeremy Rath, Jennifer Rath,&nbsp;Hunter Rath,&nbsp;Sydney Rath and Abigail Rath, twenty great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, fifteen step-great grandchildren, and one half-brother Curtis (Sharon) Edler of Chappell, NE.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Doloris, son, Ronald, daughters: Deborah Smith and Beverly Dyke, son-in-law, Everett Dyke,&nbsp;step son-in-law Craig Casper, brother Leland Rath, and&nbsp;one half-brother, Clifford Bills.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, May 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Jose Chavez, officiating.

Inurnment with military honors will be at the Kearney Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Hugh J Rath (1932-2023)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona B. Mullen, 87, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice in Tupelo, Mississippi after a sudden decline.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona was born August 6, 1935 in Buckhorn, Mississippi to Earlie and Ludie Swanson. She was one of 20 siblings. She graduated from Randolph High School and was an early fan of Elvis Presley who performed at her high school. After graduating Nona moved to Memphis, Tenn. She and some girlfriends took dance lessons at Arthur Murray for fun and to meet men. Nona met Bernard “Bernie” Mullen and during their courtship they danced in many places in Memphis, with a favorite being the rooftop of the Peabody Hotel.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona married the love of her life, Dr. Bernard “Bernie” Mullen, September 29, 1960 at St. Patrick’s in McCook. Nona and Bernie’s love of dancing continued throughout life; 42 years in McCook, 20 years in Hot Springs Village Arkansas, winters in South Padre Island, Texas and the last nine months in Mississippi. The last time Nona danced was a night out, March 11th, 2023 with Bernie and family, before her decline.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona was a community organizer and always busy, she spearheaded many fundraising activities in McCook. From swim team soup supper tickets to making sure that Heritage Hills golf course was built. Nona and her husband initiated in the memory of their son the John Mullen Memorial Pro-Am to benefit Community Hospital in 1988 and after 30 years requested that the name be retired and it is now known as The Community Hospital Pro-Am. Nona was honored by the Nebraska Optometric Association in 1992 with the Presidential Award for her work to advance optometry. Nona was a championship golfer having learned the game after the birth of her first child. She was also a lifelong basketball player including competing in the National Senior Games until she was 85.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona was preceded in death by her parents, Earlie and Ludie; son, John Mullen, (09/18/1986) and by five brothers: Marlin, Curtis, L.V., Earnie, Richard and seven sisters: Estmer, Vera, Frances, Kathleen, Faye, Leuvenia, and Norma.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona is survived by her husband, Bernie Mullen, Lincoln, NE; her daughter, Brenda Mullen, Lincoln, NE; her granddaughter, Kerstin Mullen-Bagby of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Brandon Mullen-Bagby (Melissa Lee), of Silverton, Oregon; her great-granddaughter, Ruby Lee of Silverton Oregon; three brothers, Rayburn, Jimmy and Larry; and four sisters, Dorothy, Linda, Glenda and Marilyn of Mississippi. Nona was a one of a kind woman and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The last time Nona danced was a night out, March 11th, 2023 with Bernie and family, before her decline.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona was a community organizer and always busy, she spearheaded many fundraising activities in McCook. From swim team soup supper tickets to making sure that Heritage Hills golf course was built. Nona and her husband initiated in the memory of their son the John Mullen Memorial Pro-Am to benefit Community Hospital in 1988 and after 30 years requested that the name be retired and it is now known as The Community Hospital Pro-Am. Nona was honored by the Nebraska Optometric Association in 1992 with the Presidential Award for her work to advance optometry. Nona was a championship golfer having learned the game after the birth of her first child. She was also a lifelong basketball player including competing in the National Senior Games until she was 85.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona was preceded in death by her parents, Earlie and Ludie; son, John Mullen, (09/18/1986) and by five brothers: Marlin, Curtis, L.V., Earnie, Richard and seven sisters: Estmer, Vera, Frances, Kathleen, Faye, Leuvenia, and Norma.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nona is survived by her husband, Bernie Mullen, Lincoln, NE; her daughter, Brenda Mullen, Lincoln, NE; her granddaughter, Kerstin Mullen-Bagby of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Brandon Mullen-Bagby (Melissa Lee), of Silverton, Oregon; her great-granddaughter, Ruby Lee of Silverton Oregon; three brothers, Rayburn, Jimmy and Larry; and four sisters, Dorothy, Linda, Glenda and Marilyn of Mississippi. Nona was a one of a kind woman and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A private graveside service was held at Calvary Cemetery in McCook, Nebraska. &nbsp; With deepest sorrow, we announce the death of Richard (Rick) LeeRoy Schneider of Greeley, CO. He was born on August 12, 1946, in Benkelman, NE to Ivan Schneider and Donna Schneider (Sharp). And passed away on April 3, 2023, in Yuma, AZ at the age of 76. Rick at a young age chose a profession versus education to provide for his family. His businesses were successful for over 40 years. He was married for 48 years to Arlene (Pettey) with whom he had three boys: Alan, Justin, and Ivan. Because of his upbringing, Rick has passed on his hard workmanship and knowledge to his kids and grandkids who have all been successful in their lives. One of Rick’s greatest interests was to drive around “picking” and adventure; always looking for the next project to work on. His personality was unique. He showed his love for others by being strict, helpful and giving. What our family personally loved and will miss the most is his laugh and ornery grin. In his latest years, he has done what he loved. Running equipment on job sites, restoring cars, and drag racing his '56 Ford! Rick was preceded in death by his parents and oldest sister Connie. His memory will be kept alive by his family: Sons- Alan, Justin, and Ivan; siblings- Marshall, Barry, Tina, and Julie; and many nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. &nbsp; Christopher J. Hageman, 61, of Ogallala, passed away on April 29, 2023, at his home south of Ogallala. Chris was born September 28, 1961, at Ogallala, Nebraska to Lester Ray and Maria Alberta (Spoeneman) Hageman. Chris graduated from Ogallala High School, assisted on the family farm, and was an excellent mechanic. Later he established a career as a truck driver, hauling loads both locally and on routes that covered most of the country. Recently, Chris had been working at TA in Ogallala. He was a hardworking and dedicated employee known for his reliability and commitment to his work. Chris is survived by his son, Andrew Hageman of New Hampshire, and daughter, Aimee Hageman of Grant; as well as his siblings, Pat Valentine, Robert Hageman, Diane Sandall, Pamela Cassell, and Cheri Kneifel. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Ray and Maria Alberta (Spoeneman) Hageman; as well as a brother, Howard Ray. Paula&nbsp;Campbell peacefully passed away surrounded by family at her home in North Platte on May 9, 2023, at the age of 74.

Paula was born to Donald and Barbara Switzer on September 15, 1948, at North Platte where she grew up. &nbsp;After graduating from N.P.H.S. in 1966, Paula attended business school in Denver then &nbsp;worked at a Navajo Indian Hospital Clinic in Monument Valley, UT. &nbsp;She returned to North Platte where she earned her Associates of Arts Degree from Mid Plains Community College and worked as a secretary for the Nebraska State Patrol, criminal division.

On January 14, 1974, Paula married Doug Campbell in Cheyenne, WY. &nbsp;The couple lived in Idaho, Longmont, CO, back to Idaho, then Colorado Springs before returning to North Platte in 1985. &nbsp;Paula then worked for John Gale, Dr. Claussen and Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. &nbsp;Paula loved horses, tulips, and her family. &nbsp;She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Survivors include her husband, Doug, and daughters, Teresa (Brent) Wilderman of Bennington and Mollie Tuttle (David Magiera) of Culpeper, VA.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Odean Colonial Chapel then burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C &amp; Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. &nbsp;Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. &nbsp;Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Paula Campbell (1948-2023)

Wesley Dean Neben, 79, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington.

He was born on November 3, 1943, in Sumner, Nebraska to Ernest and Martha (Knispel) Neben. He attended Overton Public Schools and graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1962. Right after high school, Wes began working for Foote Oil gas station in Overton.

On March 8, 1974, Wes was united in marriage to Ramona Huber in Kansas. They made their home in Lexington, Nebraska where Wes would spend the next 30 years as a salesman for Midway Supply. After Midway closed, he spent the next 10 years working at Tenneco Monroe Plant making powder metal parts before retiring.

Wes had many passions in life. One was for the outdoors. He loved spending afternoons in the sun, maintaining his lawn and garden. He would spend many weekends with his family boating, doing some fishing and camping. When he wasn’t outside, he would spend his time in his shop focusing on his woodworking and remodeling or sitting at home, watching his favorite sports team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Wes believed that family was incredibly important, especially when it came to his grandchildren. He also had a gift for helping others. He began attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and once he was able to, he started reaching out and helping others who were in the program as a mentor. During his younger years, Wes was a big fan of golfing and hunting.

Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Ramona Neben of Lexington; son, Wade (Jackie) Neben of Lexington; daughter, Roxanne (Bo Havens) Kracl of Fremont; eight grandchildren, Caleb, Caden, Cooper and Jaxson Neben all of Lexington, Colby (Jess) Angst of Lincoln, Riley (Jamie) McCoy, Kaitlyn (Jake) Weinrich, Blake (Nina) Kracl all of Fremont; four great-grandchildren, Rooney, Joanie, Colt and Willliam; brothers, Stan (Claudine) Neben and Richard “Dick” Neben, both of Kearney; sisters, Karen Good of Polson, Montana, Joan (Gaylord) Longmore of Callaway, Nebraska, Gail Neben of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Ellen Priel of Overton; sisters-in-law, Kathy Brauer of North Platte, Shelly (Capri Chapman) Enyeart of Palm Springs, California and Lana (Mike) Nicolen of Holdrege; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Besides his parents, Wes was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette Ulmer and Verna Wood; brothers-in-law, Bud Wood, Tom Priel, Lawrence Good, Clem Thorlakson, and Vance Ulmer; and sister-in-law, Debbie Huber-Smith.
