Chase County Fair in Imperial announces summer concert lineup

At its meeting Tuesday, the North Platte City Council advanced the effort to remodel the Recreation Center and Cody Pool by choosing an architect to lead the project.

Omaha-based RDG Planning &amp; Design was chosen to lead the remodeling and expansion projects.

"RDG brings a wealth of expertise to the project, boasting 30 years of experience in the planning and design of sports and recreational facilities across the region, including facilities in Kearney and Omaha&lt;' the city said in a release Wednesday. "RDG recognizes the integral part that local architects and contractors&nbsp;play, and&nbsp;has assembled a project team with numerous North Platte businesses and connections."

“As the city reviewed the outstanding candidates that proposed to undertake this project, we were committed to making a decision that focused on three criteria,” said Mayor Brandon Kelliher. “First, we wanted to make the wisest use of funds. Next, we wanted to work with a firm who is a leader in sports and recreational facilities. Lastly, we wanted to ensure that our outstanding local businesses were utilized during the design and construction process. RDG has demonstrated that their vision and priorities for the execution of this project align with these criteria.”&nbsp;

RDG is partnering with local architects and contractors on the project team. North Platte Architects, Steele’s Roofing &amp; Construction, T.C. Engineering Inc., and Wayne&nbsp;Dowhower Construction Inc., are all on the project team, in addition to:

• Sampson Construction for cost estimating<br>• Engineering Technologies Inc. for mechanical and electrical engineering<br>• Performance Engineering for structural engineering<br>•Aquatic Design Consultants Inc. for swimming pool consulting

Two of ETI’s engineers assigned to the project are North Platte natives.&nbsp;

The design process will continue through early 2024, with anticipated construction set to begin early in the second quarter of 2024.&nbsp;

The process of accepting bids for the project began in January of 2023, after North Platte voters approved a temporary half-cent sales tax increase in November of 2022. The additional sales tax will go into effect this&nbsp;spring and will help raise $52.5 million to make improvements at the Recreation Center and Cody Pool, as well as relocate the Skate Park.&nbsp;

North Platte, NE - This is the third segment of our 2023 "Meet The Rancher" series from the North Platte Post. We've traveled to Arthur county, Stapleton and in this episode Derek Beck sits down with Trey Wasserburger of TD Angus at Rishel Ranch south of North Platte. Trey and wife Dayna took over the operation at Rishel Ranch five years ago and this year will produce and sell close to 400 angus bulls at the upcoming bull sale on March 17th. 

The two talked about the changing cattle industry and how the beef processing plant "Sustainable Beef", which his family co-founded will impact the region in the coming years.

NORTH PLATTE — Wallace seventh grader Cauy Robinson wants to take over his family ranch someday. He’s off to a good start when it comes to understanding the beef industry. 

Robinson and the 4-H Livestock Judging team he competed for from Scottsbluff county placed second over the weekend at the Kearney Classic. Robinson has also been involved with the Chase County 4-H team in the past, whose team placed 1st at the Kearney Classic over the weekend. Cauy explained how most livestock judging competitions go “almost every contest we go to there's 12 classes with four calves or goats or sheep or hogs in it and you pretty much place it how you like them and then they'll (judges)&nbsp;be questions that you have to answer after the contest . They'll sit you down and they'll ask questions to everybody in the group and then&nbsp;mark your card 1&nbsp;through 4 or you'll have to give a set of reasons to them (judges) of why you placed them that way.”&nbsp;

Robinson was in the Eagle studio’s in North Platte to talk about 4-H Livestock Judging, but what we noticed immediately was Cauy’s passion for not only the livestock judging competition but his eagerness to learn, and also speak up about what he loves about it. 

He was in studio with Caitlyn Jacobson who is the Extension Educator for 4-H in Lincoln, Logan and McPherson counties. Jacobson was also impressed as Robinson spoke. “in 4H, we talk about learn by doing, and this is a great example of a hands on learning experience.” she went on to say “when they (4H’ers) go into a show ring they have a good idea of what kind of animal they have, and how to make improvements. That’s part of the learning aspect&nbsp;of the project. You learn what makes a good steer, what makes a good pig, so when you talk to a judge you can tell him hey yeah you know what;&nbsp;this is what's good about my animal and even in the showmanship you can kind of articulate some of those good qualities about your animal. It’s just a all around good hands-on learning experience and you get to learn, you get to meet a lot of different people along the way."&nbsp;

Robinson agreed, “my family shows cattle, we’re at the barn every day, all year round working them and getting them ready. And livestock judging is also a yearly deal, there’s contests in the summer, and winter.” He went on to say that he thinks judging and showing livestock go hand in hand. “not only do you learn how to talk your calf into the judge if they (judge) have questions, but you learn personally how you like to see cattle, or sheep or goats. You don’t wanna look at cattle from just here, you want to step back and get a good view, which helped me win showman ship at the state fair last year.”&nbsp;

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Rex Hanson of the North 40 Chophouse in North Platte was on Good Morning North Platte this morning to talk about the restaurant's support of the&nbsp;new Student Success and Activity Center at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.

With a donation to the project, patrons can receive gift cards to the North 40 Chophouse. A donations of $500 will receive a $50 gift card, and donations of $1,000 will receive a $200 gift card.

The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture is a small campus with big impact on Nebraska agriculture and the veterinary profession. NCTA is hoping to double the college’s impact for students and the state’s workforce by growing their student enrollment. 

Key to this recruitment plan is the continued beautification and modernization of the campus.

 The Barn will be renovated into the Student Success and Activity Center to provide students a union atmosphere to gather, technology-enabled study rooms, a tutoring center, and an updated kitchen and dining hall that will also serve as a large multipurpose room for hosting events. 

The Student Success and Activity Center will be a central hub on campus and necessary for building community and making memories.

Scotty was joined by Desiree from Brain and Body Balancing to talk about a workshop for kids called the Power of Self-Talk. The workshop will discuss self-talk, both positive and negative and offer tools students can use for life.

North Platte, Ne - From his earliest memories of growning up on a Lincoln County dairy farm, Tyrell Rousey always knew he wanted to be a cattleman. Rousey was heavily involved in livestock judging in college, and after graduating he began internships for local cattlemen, eventually working for&nbsp; Berger’s Herdmasters between North Platte &amp; Stapleton as manager of the program after college. After being with Berger’s Herdmasters program for 15 years, the opportunity to lease the Berger cowherd and ranch was presented and has since transitioned to Rousey SimAngus, LLC.

The Rousey's have tried not to reinvent the wheel, but instead to evolve their heard over the years, according to Tyrell "you know whenever there's a changing of the guard you know there's always a few things that that change for sure but you know we haven't made any any drastic changes. I guess you know the saying goes if ain't broke don't fix it. You know we've got a diverse set of customers and you know.... when talking to them they've been very pleased with what we've provided to them over the years ,but there's some technology and everything evolves. We've moved forward, we've started doing some genomic testing, I guess that that's one step we've made."
