The No. 13 Husker Rifle team will continue its season at home against No. 15 UTEP on Sunday, Nov. 2. The match will be held at Big Shots Rifle Range (399 Sun Valley Blvd, Lincoln, NE 68528) and is slated to start at 8 a.m. (central). Attendance is free for fans, and breakfast and signed posters will be provided while supplies last. Against the Horned Frogs, freshman Maddy Moyer had another impressive day, tying the second-highest air rifle score in team history with a mark of 597. The Huskers have captured an impressive season so far in 2024. Junior Emma Rhode currently holds the second highest smallbore score in the nation and in Nebraska history, with a mark of 593 in NU’s win at Memphis in the season opener. Rhode has also recorded six first-place finishes, with three in the smallbore and three in the aggregate. The freshmen have earned their share of achievements as well. Alivia Perkins tied the second-highest air rifle score in team history with a score of 597 on Oct. 12. Maddy Moyer fired a personal best in the smallbore with a score of 587 in the Nebraska’s dual with Memphis and Navy on Oct. 20. As a team, the Huskers posted a season-high mark of 2,373 in the air rifle in their loss at TCU on Nov. 2.

“Coming off a tough loss at TCU last weekend, I’ve been impressed with the way the girls have bounced back this week in practice,” said Coach Richard Clark. “We’ve been pushing hard and have continued to see great things day in and day out. A focused week of practice with the added comfort of getting to host UTEP here at home makes me very excited to watch the girls compete this weekend.”&nbsp;

UTEP enters the match coming off a 4,728-4,681 loss at No. 4 Murray State. Nebraska has faced UTEP 25 times since 2000, and have won 20 of those matches. NU most recently defeated UTEP, 4,702-2,617, on Oct. 12, 2024.&nbsp;

Following the match with UTEP, the Huskers will head to Columbus, Ohio, to face off against No. 9 Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Big Red will then travel to Akron, Ohio, on Sunday, Nov. 17 to take on No. 12 Akron in their final match of the fall.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Huskers host first home match on Sunday

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team swept No. 12 Oregon 25-12, 26-24, 25-18 for its 20th straight in front of an Oregon school-record crowd of 8,566 at Matthew Knight Arena on Thursday night. 

The Huskers (23-1, 13-0 B1G) got 14 kills and 10 digs from Harper Murray, who hit .414 and also had an ace. Taylor Landfair added 13 kills and hit .407, and Merritt Beason and Andi Jackson each tallied six kills. 

Bergen Reilly had 33 assists and nine digs as the Huskers hit .278 for the match. Nebraska was stout defensively once again, holding the Ducks (17-5, 9-4 B1G) to .133 hitting. 

Nebraska had four aces with no errors with Olivia Mauch serving two of them. Oregon had three aces and made six service errors. It was the first time since Sept. 16, 2017 that Nebraska didn't commit a service error. 

NU had the edge in kills (44-37) and digs (52-38), while Oregon had one more block (7-6). 

With her team-leading 14 digs, Lexi Rodriguez claimed sole possession of second place in school history with 1,720 career digs, passing Kayla Banwarth (1,706). Justine Wong-Orantes is the school record holder with 1,890. 

Mimi Colyer had 13 kills to lead the Ducks. 

Set 1: Nebraska took a 4-0 lead, but Oregon fought back to tie the score at 6-6. Back-to-back kills by Murray, two by Landfair and one by Jackson made it 11-6 Big Red. Landfair added three more kills and a block with Allick as the Huskers built an 18-8 advantage. After Oregon scored three in a row, a service error by the Ducks preceded an ace by Mauch, a block by Allick and Beason and a kill by Murray that made it 22-11 Huskers. A kill by Jackson and a solo block by the sophomore middle blocker gave the Huskers a 25-12 win. NU hit .476 in set one and held Oregon to -.031. 

Set 2: Oregon led 8-6 when Murray and Jackson pounded kills, and Murray served an ace for a 10-8 Husker lead. Reilly dumped a kill before Beason tallied another to make it 13-10. But the Ducks ran off three straight points to even the score at 14-14. After a Husker timeout, Murray tooled a block and the Ducks hit long twice to put NU back in front, 17-14. The Ducks rallied to tie the score at 19-19, but Jackson terminated a kill and Allick and Landfair combined for a block and a 21-19 advantage. Landfair ended a long rally with a kill to make it 22-20, but the Ducks came right back to even the score at 22-22 after a kill and a Husker hitting error. After an NU timeout, Landfair posted her eighth kill, but Colyer answered for the Ducks. The Ducks then hit long to give NU set point, 24-23, but a kill by Oregon tied it 24-24. Oregon hit wide to give the Big Red another set point chance, and Murray ended the set at 26-24 with her ninth kill. 

Set 3: Oregon led 6-4 when Kennedi Orr served a 4-0 run to put the Huskers up 8-6. Reilly dumped two kills, and Allick and Landfair each posted one. After Oregon tied the score at 8-8, Landfair earned a sideout kill and Reilly served an ace before an Oregon error made it 11-8. The Ducks came back with a 3-0 run to make it 11-11, but Beason terminated and Mauch served her second ace before Oregon hit wide for a 14-11 Husker edge. After an Oregon timeout, Reilly set Beason for back-to-back kills, and Allick and Beason stuffed a Duck attack for a 17-11 lead. After Oregon got within 17-13, Allick recorded a solo block, and three Murray kills put the Huskers up 22-15. Nebraska finished off a 25-18 win with three kills by Landfair.

Huskers sweep No. 12 Oregon

North Platte, Neb. – Knights women’s basketball fell to McCook Community College, 57-56, at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center on Tuesday night.

It was a tightly contested game from start to finish, North Platte took an early 4-0 lead after a pair of free throws from Zaily Marazin. The Indians went on to outscore the Knights over the final 5:41 of the quarter to take a 14-10 lead into the quarter break.

McCook stretched their lead to 18-10 after a short run to open the second quarter. North Platte slowly chipped away at the deficit as they narrowed the margin to 22-20 with 1:07 to play. McCook would not relinquish their lead in the final minute, as they built a 24-20 advantage headed into the halftime break.

North Platte battled back to retake the lead on a bucket from Jada Thompson with 5:09 to play in the third quarter. The game remained within one possession until McCook built a four-point edge with 6:23 to play in the final quarter.

The margin was pushed to five, but the Knights cut the deficit to one on a three from Marazin with four seconds to play. North Platte would receive one final opportunity to earn the win with a strong inbound play, but the shot was just off the mark clinching the win for the Indians.

North Platte connected on 33.3 percent of their shots from the floor and just 12-of-23 from the free throw line. McCook won the rebounding battle, 40-37, while shooting 32.7 percent from the field.

Knights (2-1) host Eastern Wyoming College for their home opener on Friday. Tip is set for 5 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

Knights fall to McCook in early season rivalry game

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte Community College men's basketball fell in their home opener to Colby Community College, 78-72, on Tuesday night.

"I thought we played hard tonight," said head coach Jacob Brandl. "The season is young, and we will learn from our mistakes and get better."

Sedrick Nari led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Mo Diao finished with 16 points and six rebounds.

North Platte trailed early before a baseline jumper from Alex Harper sparked a 6-0 run to give the black and gold a three-point edge. Colby battled back to retake the lead on a 5-0 run while teams traded baskets for the next nine minutes.

A three by Nari pushed the Knights lead to 22-21, but the Trojans rallied to take a four-point lead with 3:11 remaining in the half. North Platte closed the half on an 11-2 run to take a 35-30 lead into the halftime break.

Colby erased the deficit in the opening minutes of the second half. A mid-range jumper by Diao halted the rally as teams exchanged buckets and the lead for the next ten minutes.

A Trojan transition layup ignited a 7-2 run with just under six minutes to play. A pair of free throws from Nari and a three-point play from Harper knotted the game up at 60-60 with 5:16 remaining. Colby continued to hold the momentum down the stretch, as they held off one final rally in the final minute to clinch the victory.

Knights shot 40.3 percent from the field, including 15-of-19 from the free throw line, while Colby finished the night shooting 39.7 percent from the field, including 51.6 percent from field goal range in the second half.&nbsp;

Knights (1-2) return to the road for the two-day Garden City Classic. North Platte will open with Dodge City Community College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Huskers open season with 87-67 Win

Lincoln&nbsp;- Alexis Markowski set the school career record with her 41st double-double to lead six Huskers scoring in double figures, as the No. 23 Nebraska women's basketball team rolled to an 88-48 season-opening win over Omaha on Monday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Playing in front of 8,106 fans in a noon tip-off at PBA on opening day of the college basketball season, the Huskers got team highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds in just 21 minutes from the three-time All-Big Ten center Markowski. The Lisa Leslie and Naismith Trophy candidate hit 7-of-8 shots from the floor while adding two assists and a block for the Big Red.

Markowski's 10th rebound to secure the record-setting double-double came on a hustle play when she dove to the floor near the three-point line and passed the ball ahead while lying on her back to create an uncontested transition layup for teammate Natalie Potts with 6:45 left in the game.

Markowski added an offensive rebound and a putback 45 seconds later to end her day with six minutes left and Nebraska leading 75-36.

Estherville, Iowa – Jada Thompson scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead North Platte to a 55-33 win over Marshalltown Community College on Saturday.

Madison Cheleen added her first double digit performance of her collegiate career, finishing with 12 points to go along with her two rebounds and one steal. Zaily Marazin led the Knights on the glass with 10 rebounds to accompany her four points.

It was a low scoring first quarter despite North Platte jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the opening 1:27. The Knights used an 11-2 run capped off by a three from Dezirae Gonzales to take a 15-2 lead into the quarter break.

Marshalltown went on a 4-0 spurt to open the second quarter, before a 7-0 run extended the margin to 22-6. The Tigers were limited to just five more points for the remaining 6:06 of the quarter, as the Knights carried a 32-11 lead into the halftime break.

A 9-2 run to open the third quarter helped the Knights build a 41-13 lead. North Platte took their largest lead of the game at the 3:40 mark on a runner by EmmaJo Locks, 46-15. Marshalltown closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run to narrow the margin to 49-23 headed into the final frame.

The Tigers outscored the Knights 10-6 in the final quarter, but the large deficit could not be overcome in the final ten minutes.

North Platte (2-0) will travel south to take on McCook Community College on Tuesday. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

Knights defense aids in win over Marshalltown

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Mo Diao notched his first double digit performance of the season, but a 31-3 run in the second half lifted Laramie County Community College to a 77-75 win on Saturday night.

“I am proud of the guys for battling at the end to give us a chance to win the game,” said head coach Jacob Brandl. “Laramie is a well-coached team, and they challenged us in the second half.”

Diao finished with 13 points to accompany his eight rebounds and six blocks, while Alex Harper and Sedrick Nari each notched 12 points, respectively.

Knights pushed their lead to 53-33 after a 10-3 run to open the second half. Laramie County responded to take their first lead of the game on a 31-3 run. A bucket by Justus Michael quieted the run, but the Golden Eagles weren’t done adding to their lead.

The deficit grew to eight before a North Platte 4-0 run cut the margin to 66-62. Laramie County answered by stretching their lead back to eight inside five minutes to play. North Platte made one last surge in the closing stages, but Laramie County held off the rally to complete the come from behind win.

In the opening half, Diao broke open the scoring before the Knights managed to push their lead to 16-6 on a pair of free throws by Michael. The Golden Eagles cut the margin to four twice over the next 6:29, but the Knights continued to hold the momentum.

An 8-2 run capped off by a Dennis Rocha contested runner in the lane pushed the margin back into double digits with 2:58 to play in the half. Knights continued to challenge the defense as they stretched their lead to 43-30 at the halftime break.

Knights (1-1) open the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday against Colby Community College. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

Knights fall in nailbiter to Golden Eagles

Columbus, Neb. – Knights volleyball fell in a tightly contested four set match to Central Community College in the Region IX Championship on Saturday.

Jaelyn Dicke led the way with 14 kills, 13 digs and two assisted blocks. Sydney Spillane totaled 10 kills while finishing the match with a .381 hitting percentage. EmiLee Walnofer posted 29 digs to accompany her five aces, while Aubrey Grant served up 42 set assists in the match.

Central jumped out to an 8-5 lead until a 5-1 run extended the margin midway through the set. Back-to-back kills from Grant and Ella Rotherham halted the run, until the Raiders settled back into their rhythm. The Raiders never relinquished their lead down the stretch to take set one, 25-14.

Looking to even the match, the Knights leapt out to a 7-4 lead on a kill from Nya Lual. A 10-2 rally midway through the set extended the Knights lead to 20-11, forcing Central to take a timeout. North Platte did not let the Raiders climb back into the set as they evened the match with a 25-14 set win.

An 8-2 rally helped the Raiders pull out to a 19-11 lead in the third set. North Platte countered the run with a 7-1 rally to pull back within two on an ace by Grant. Knights and Raiders traded points until a late 3-1 run sealed the set for Central.&nbsp;

Knights took an early lead in the fourth set on back-to-back kills from Zoe Maher and Grant. A 4-0 run pushed the Raiders back out front, 9-7. The set remained tight until a 4-0 run gave the Raiders a 20-16 lead. North Platte would not go down quietly knotting the game up at 23-23, but Central scored the final two points to close out the match.

The 2024 season comes to an end with the Knights posting a 14-24 overall record.

Knights season ends in Region IX Championship

North Platte Community College started its season out with a bang by defeating Eastern Wyoming College 62-59. Head Coach Jacob Brandl highlighted the keys that led to the Knight's first victory of the season.&nbsp;

"Our youth showed out tonight. We did a ton of things really well and then would turn around and have really bad stretches." Coach Brandl described, "Our guys battled and played hard though, It's tough to win college basketball games and even harder to win on the road."

Freshman Dennis Rocha finished with a team-high 18 points and collected 9 rebounds. Jaxson Brandl also finished with 13 points off the bench in the victory.

"Guys stepped up and made plays when they needed to. Jaxson Brandl gave us a big spark in the first half, and Dennis was so good and tough on both ends," Brandl said.

It's a quick turnaround for the Knights as they will be on the road and battle against Laramie County Community College tomororw at 7 PM.

"We need to have a short memory and get our minds ready for a tough LCCC group. We have to find a way to stop turning the ball over because we left so many points on the board. I trust our guys, and I'm proud of the fight that this young group showed."

Knight's collect their first win of the season against Eastern Wyoming

The Supernovas open their season in a battle of league juggernauts, taking on the Atlanta Vibe on Friday, January 10 at the&nbsp;CHI Health Center.&nbsp;That evening will also be&nbsp;Banner Night&nbsp;in celebration of Omaha’s historic first Professional Volleyball Championship, captured in thrilling fashion on May 18 with a sweep of the Grand Rapids Rise.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A key focus in building the 2025 schedule was prioritizing weekend matches to allow fans better opportunities to see the Supernovas in action. Of the 14 home matches, eight will take place on the weekend, featuring three Saturday showdowns and five Sunday matchups. Additionally, four matches are scheduled for Fridays, while two will take place on Thursdays. All starting times are central and are subject to change.&nbsp;

Following the Supernovas home opener against the Vibe, Omaha hits the road for a rematch of the 2024 PVF Championship on Jan. 12 against the Grand Rapids Rise in Michigan. After a quick trip to face the Vegas Thrill on Jan. 17, Omaha returns home for a Sunday showdown against the San Diego Mojo on Jan. 19, who the Supernovas beat in the Champiosnhp Semifinal last season in the franchise’s first-ever reverse sweep. January ends with a road and home exchange with the Fury on Jan. 24 and Jan. 31.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Omaha opens February with the first of two three-match road trips, featuring stops against the Orlando Valkyries, League’s newest franchise, the Indy Ignite, and Atlanta. The Supernovas return home for another Sunday battle against the Mojo on Feb. 16 before heading out to San Diego looking for their first win in Viajas Arena on Feb. 20. The month ends with the Valkyries coming to CHI on Feb. 27 as Orlando looks to earn its first win over the Supernovas, finishing 0-4 against Omaha in 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Former Supernova&nbsp;Sydney Hilley&nbsp;visits Omaha as a member of the Indy Ignite for the first time on March 2. Afterwards, the Supernovas embark on another three-game road trip against Columbus, Indy and Orlando before returning for a four-match home stand. Omaha ends March with a string of matches which starts with the Ignite again on March 22. A trio of reunions follow, as former Supernovas’&nbsp;Kendall White&nbsp;and&nbsp;Allison Mayfield&nbsp;return with Vegas on March 28, and Paige Briggs-Romine of Grand Rapids come to town on March 30.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Supernovas wrap up its extended home stay with Orlando on April 5. A five-day break allows Omaha to rest before heading out to the west coast for a pair of matches against San Diego and Vegas. The home schedule ends with four consecutive matches at CHI starting with Grand Rapids on April 17, Atlanta on April 19 and Columbus on April 25. The Supernovas home schedule comes to an end on Sunday, April 27 against the Thrill.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Omaha finishes the regular season on the road with the Rise on May 2 and a showdown with the Vibe on May 4.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After the regular season, the top four squads will compete for the Pro Volleyball Federation Championship on Friday, May 9 and Sunday, May 11 at a location to be announced.

The Supernovas reloaded its roster in the offseason to defend their title, bringing back 2024 team captain and All-PVF First Team member&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller, superstar setter&nbsp;Natalia Valentín-Anderson&nbsp;and homegrown rookie&nbsp;Sophie Davis.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Omaha also signed a trio of former Nebraska Volleyball middle blockers, which include&nbsp;Kaitlyn Hord, and&nbsp;NCAA National Champions&nbsp;Briana Holman&nbsp;and&nbsp;Kayla Caffey. Plus, former Creighton libero&nbsp;Allison Whitten&nbsp;signed with the franchise.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Defending Champion Omaha Supernovas announce 2025 Schedule, Home Opener Set for January 10 at CHI Health Center 

The No. 10 Nebraska rifle team will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to face off against No. 6 TCU this Saturday, Nov. 2. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. (central).The Huskers enter the match at 5-2 on the season after a strong weekend in Maryland two weeks ago. NU topped No. 11 Ole Miss, 4,705-4,694, No. 12 Memphis, 4,697-4,691 and split a pair of matches against No. 13 Navy. Freshman Maddy Moyer had an impressive day on Oct. 20, taking second place overall with an aggregate score of 1,180, and setting a personal best in the smallbore with a mark of 587.&nbsp;

“We’ve continued to see some really great things from individuals the last couple of weeks,” said Coach Richard Clark. “I’ve been very impressed with the way our team has continued to grow and learn from each match this year. It’s a matter of time before we hit our stride and I think this weekend will be a great opportunity for us to do so.”&nbsp;

TCU, which won the NCAA Championship in 2024, comes into the match with a 3-1 record, having posted wins against Navy, VMI, and UTEP. The Horned Frogs took a loss against No. 2 Georgia Southern. Nebraska is coming off a 202-94 victory over Iowa State when the Huskers captured 13 individual titles.&nbsp;Gena Jorgenson led the Huskers with individual victories in the 1,650 (16:48.14) and 500 (4:59.39) freestyles, along with a win in the 200 backstroke (2:02.65). The All-American from Aberdeen, S.D., owns is undefeated with nine individual wins this season. Her performance in the victory over Iowa State earned her Big Ten Swimmer-of-the-Week honors (Oct. 30). &nbsp;Maisie Gilford (50 and 100 freestyles) and Beatrix Tanko (200 freestyle and 100 butterfly) each clinched two individual victories against the Cyclones. &nbsp;Senior Maia Hall swept the breaststroke events, winning both the 100 (1:03.68) and 200 (2:18.57) breaststrokes against Iowa State, while freshman Marissa Laurin claimed her first collegiate victory in the 200 individual medley (2:06.17).In the diving well, sophomore Abby Baxter captured victories in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Huskers Ranked No. 23 in WBCA Preseason Top 25

The Nebraska swim and dive team will take on Iowa State in the Big Red's annual Pink Out dual meet at the Devaney Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. (CT).&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Huskers plan to get back on the winning track against the Cyclones after dropping a 170-130 decision at Iowa (Oct. 18).

Against the Hawkeyes, Husker All-American Gena Jorgensen captured three individual titles, while Abby Baxter captured the victory on the one-meter board.&nbsp;

Jorgenson, a junior from Aberdeen, S.D., swam her way to wins in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:06.98) and 500 free (4:55.64). She added another victory in the 200 backstroke (4:55.64).&nbsp;

Newcomer Maisie Gilford stood out for the Huskers, contributing a pair of individual runner-up finishes in the 50 freestyle (23.98) and 100 free (52.16). The junior from England also was a part of two second-place relays.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Maia Hall, a senior from Whitby, England, contributed second-place finishes in the 100 (1:03.62) and 200 (2:17.57) breaststrokes. Hall also added a third-place performance in the 200 IM (2:07.39). &nbsp;

In the diving well the Huskers had a strong all-around showing. Baxter scored 305.10 to take the title on the one-meter board. Kelsey Clairmont finished fifth. On the three-meter, sophomore&nbsp;Antonina Harned&nbsp;earned a runner-up finish (315.53), while Baxter took third and&nbsp;Nettie Knapton&nbsp;finished fifth. &nbsp;

Last Meeting with Iowa StateLast season, the Huskers powered past the Cyclones, 167-132 victory. Jorgenson led the Huskers by capturing two titles in the 1,000 (10:15.79) and 500 (4:59.84) freestyles. Nebraska native JoJo Randby contributed an individual title in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.65). Abby Baxter and Antonina Harned took first and second place in both the one-meter and three-meter dives, respectively.&nbsp;&nbsp;
