The MIAA&nbsp;has released the&nbsp;<a href="https://themiaa.com/sports/football" target="_blank">football preseason coaches and media&nbsp;polls</a>&nbsp;for the upcoming 2023 season.&nbsp; They were released Tuesday morning (July 25) as a part of MIAA Media Day in Kansas City. Note head coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team in the coaches' rankings.&nbsp; Head coach&nbsp;Ryan Held, along with&nbsp;All-American quarterback&nbsp;TJ Davis&nbsp;(Colorado Springs) and two-time&nbsp;All-MIAA&nbsp;end&nbsp;Tell Spies&nbsp;(Mullen), will speak to the media at 10:30 a.m. The press conference is available for free at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.themiaanetwork.com/" target="_blank">www.themiaanetwork.com</a>&nbsp;(UNK is the third team up, behind Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri.) The Lopers are tied for fifth in the coaches' poll and are sixth in the media poll. UNK, along with Central Oklahoma, tallied 57 points in the coaches' poll while picking up 199 on the media rankings. UCO has 208 to rank fifth; the Bronchos host the Lopers on Thursday, Aug. 31, to begin the season. The Blue &amp; Gold went 8-3 last season, tying for third place in the MIAA. McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala moves on to the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament Championship Game after defeating #5 Holdrege 12-4 Monday night in the elimination game. Ogallala will have a rematch with #6 Broken Bow who they lost to 9-4 Sunday afternoon. Ogallala will have to win twice to advance to the state tournament. They will take on Broken Bow tomorrow at 4:30 MST. Ogallala's rematch with Holdrege started off very similar to the first time these two teams played in the first round of districts on Friday. Scoreless two innings for both teams before Holdrege would strike first in the bottom of the third. Holdrege's Matt Janssen would reach on base from a hit by pitch. Beau Jensen also reached base before Keagan Steinke would hit a 2 RBI double to give Holdrege an early l2-0.

Top of the fourth, Ogallala's Ian Shaw would hit a double in the inning. Max Mueller would also hit a double to score Shaw. Next batter, Colton Knispel single would score Mueller to tie the game at 2. Both teams would score a run in the fourth which resulted the score 3-3 after four completed innings.

This post season run, Ogallala has had an explosive inning minus the Broken Bow game and this time it was the top half of the fifth inning. The team would rack in 7 runs to extend there lead 9-2. Caden Rezac's two triples in the fifth was the highlight of the inning. Shaw would also hit a triple in the fifth inning as well.&nbsp;

Things got quiet tell the top half of the 7th when Rezac would send a three run homerun down the right field line to give us the final score of 12-4. Hitting and pitching was a key component for Ogallala in tonight's elimination game.

Getting the start for Ogallala tonight was Aydan Halligan. Halligan would throw 5 innings while striking out three batters. Cole Stokey would toss the 6th inning striking out one while Josh Christensen would finish the 7th inning striking out two batters. As a whole the staff struck out 6 batters and allowed 7 hits.

Holdrege would start Keagan Stienke who would go 4 2/3 striking out 4. Trey Weaver would come in relief but got pulled after 4 batters. Cole Guthrie would finish the game for Holdrege striking out three batters.

Ogallala's hot bats would finish the game with 14 hits. Rezac was 4 for 5 with a single, two triples, and a three run homerun. He was a double shy from the cycle. Shaw went 3 for 4 with a single and two doubles. Mueller was 2 for 5 with a single and a double.&nbsp;

Ogallala and Broken Bow are the last two remaining teams in the&nbsp;B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament. Broken Bow only has to win one while Ogallala will need to win twice. The winner will advance to the 2023 Class B State Championship tournament in Pierce, Nebraska. The tournament is July 29th - August 2nd.

Ogallala Advances to the B6 American Legion Senior's Tournament Championship Game

McCook, Nebr - The #2 Ogallala was defeated by the #6 Broken Bow in the winners bracket 9-4 in day 3 of the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament. For Ogallala they will play Holdrege tomorrow at 5 pm MST in an elimination game.&nbsp;

Broken Bow, who was the visiting team in today's contest would strike first in the top half of the 1st inning on a Brice Chaplin RBI single. Broken Bow almost went up 2-0 in the top of the 1st but Ogallala first basemen Colton Knispel sent a laser home to gun out Broken Bow's Caden Holm. Broken Bow would again add another run in the top half of the 3rd inning extending their lead 2-0.

Ogallala would fight back on their own in the bottom half of the third inning. Ogallala's Ian Shaw hit a double into center field which would score Michael Redden. Aydan Halligan would score as well when Broken Bow pitcher Max Dension balked.

Broken Bow would go on a tear adding 7 runs to their lead while keeping Ogallala off the board. The bottom of the half, Ogallala had a late push that was unfortunately was not enough as they would fall 9-4.

Broken Bow almost went up 2-0 in the top of the 1st but Ogallala first basemen Colton Knispel sent a laser home to gun out Broken Bow's Caden Holm. Broken Bow would again add another run in the top half of the 3rd inning extending their lead 2-0.Ogallala would fight back on their own in the bottom half of the third inning. Ogallala's Ian Shaw hit a double into center field which would score Michael Redden. Aydan Halligan would score as well when Broken Bow pitcher Max Dension balked.Broken Bow would go on a tear adding 7 runs to their lead while keeping Ogallala off the board. Broken Bow Defeats Ogallala 9-4 at B6 Area Seniors District Tournament Day 3

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala defeated #3 McCook 13-8 after a back-and-forth battle Saturday at the Jaycee Complex in McCook for day 2 of the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament. Ogallala will take on Broken Bow Sunday afternoon in the winners' bracket at 12 pm MST.&nbsp;

It was a very similar start to game 2 for Ogallala as both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings. Ogallala who was the visiting team in today's contest would plate 6 runs in the top half of the third inning. Ogallala's Caden Rezac would start the top of the third with a stand up triple and would later come around to score the first points of the game. McCook pitcher Brady Graham struggled in the third, walking two batters and hitting two batters. He would later be replaced by Quentin Terry.&nbsp;

McCook would cut the lead in half after they would score three in the bottom of the fourth. Ogallala couldn't add run insurance in the top of the fifth while McCook would eventually tie the game at 7 after the fifth.

Ogallala would add insurance in the top of the sixth when they would again add another 6 runs. Ogallala's Ian Shaw started the inning getting hit by a pitch before stealing two bags. Jayden Curtis hit a hard hit down the third base line to score Shaw and helped get the momentum rolling.

Ogallala would add one more in the seventh for good measures as they would defeat McCook 13-8. In the game, Ogallala would throw 4 pitchers on the mound. Colton Knispel would get the start and throw three innings striking out 3 batters. Also getting appearances was Aydan Halligan, Cole Stokey, and Caden Rezac where Rezac would finish the game. The Ogallala pitching staff would combine to strike out 8 batters. McCook threw 4 pitchers as well on the mound.&nbsp;

Earlier in the day #1 Minden was eliminated by Holdrege 4-2. Broken Bow defeated Gothenburg 11-3 which also eliminated Gothenburg from the tournament. Ogallala will take on Broken Bow in the winner's bracket for the first game of the day with a 12 pm MST start. McCook and Holdrege will battle it out in the loser's bracket with their game set to begin at 4:00 pm central time.

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala beat #5 Holdrege 8-0 in 5 innings in the opening round of the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament Friday afternoon.&nbsp; Ogallala will play McCook Saturday at 4pm Mountain Time. Dominating pitching performance from Ogallala's Ian Shaw as he struck out all 9 batters he faced. Caden Rezac would come in relief for Shaw in the top of the 4th and would finish his day with 5 strikeouts. As a whole, the Ogallala pitching staff would strike out 14 batters and only giving up 1 hit in the entire contest.

Slow start for both teams as it was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the third before Jayden Curtis would get a single which got the bats rolling for Ogallala. 4 straight singles, walks, and errors committed by Holdrege would help contribute to 7 runs in the bottom half of the third inning.

Holdrege Farm Bureau hung on for the 4th inning, but Rezac would knock Curtis's home in the bottom half of the 5th to push the lead to 8 and eventually call the game to mercy rule where Ogallala was victorous 8-0.

Earlier in the day Broken Bow defeated top seeded Minden 15-0, Broken Bow will play Gothenburg who lost to McCook 12-4 in 5 innings at 2pm Central Time in McCook on Saturday afternoon. The 11 am elimination game will feature Minden taking on Holdrege.

Ogallala Seniors B6 American Legion Tournament Begins Today

GRAND ISLAND, Neb - The North Platte FNBO Seniors baseball team was eliminated Tuesday afternoon by Hastings Five Points Bank 8-3. Hastings will play Kearney Runza Wednesday for the district title and a trip to state.

The Nebraska soccer team added a talented in-state player to a roster that includes six newcomers, when Head Coach John Walker announced the addition of Lincoln native Alexa Gobel for the 2023 season.

“Nebraska is a competitive school academically and athletically,” Gobel said. “After meeting with the coaches and players, I knew it would be a great fit for me. Growing up around the Big Ten and now being able to play in it is a dream come true. I can’t wait to be a Husker.”

Gobel, a recent Lincoln Southwest graduate, was a mainstay in the goal for the Silver Hawks. She tallied 10 shutouts and 61 saves during her senior season and was also a two-time Super State Second-Team honoree and a 2023 member of the Girls Class A All-State team. Additionally, she is a three-time All-Conference and two-time All-City selection. Gobel helped lead LSW to a runner-up finish in 2023, a third-place showing in 2022 and a fifth-place finish in 2021. Gobel also played volleyball and basketball in high school and chose Nebraska over playing volleyball at the University of Albany.

Academically, Gobel is a National Honor Society member, three-time both Academic All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete and has been named to the Honor Roll with High Distinction four times.

On the club side, Gobel played for Kenan Sahuric at 402 DA and helped her team to six-straight State Cup Championships.
