The fair offers plenty of events for everyone in the family to enjoy. 4-H started on Monday with most festival events starting on Wednesday. Fan favorites that are back is the rodeo on Thursday, the Keith County Survivor Games on Friday and the Combine Derby on Saturday.&nbsp;

2023 Keith County Fair Schedule

PIERCE, NEB - Springfield edges Ogallala 2-1 in extra innings in day 1 of the 2023 Class B State Tournament. An exciting defensive battle between the two teams. Ogallala will face York in the elimination game tomorrow at 9:30am mountain time/10:30 central time. We will have the game live on air with pregame coverage to begin at 9:20am mountain time/10:20am central time on Flatrock 100.7 and online at&nbsp;<a href="https://flatrock1007.com/2093-2/">flatrock1007.com/2093-2/</a>

Springfield would get on the board first in the bottom half of the 1st inning. Springfields Gage Ryba would get on base with a single up the middle and later scored on the Tucker Riha fielder's choice.&nbsp;

Springfield would keep a 1-0 score till the top half of the 4th. Cleanup hitter and third baseman Jayden Curtis for Ogallala would reach base on an infield single. Curtis would steal 2 bags before left fielder Max Mueller would score Curtis on an infield single. Scored tied at 1-1.

Both teams would make great defensive plays throughout the game. There were times where Ogallala and Springfield would be threatening to score before getting out of jams.

In the bottom half of the 9th, Springfields Carter Grosdideair would reach base on a single. A few batters later, Bryson Banks would step up to the plate. Banks would draw the walk which would bring in Grosdideair to score to eventually win the game 2-1 in 9 innings.

Ian Shaw would get the start for Ogallala in this morning's game. He would go 7 2/3 striking out 2 and only allowing 4 hits. Aydan Halligan would finish the remainder of the game for Ogallala. Ogallala would also finish the game with 7 hits. Caden Rezac went 3-3 with 3 singles. Mueller would finish the game with 2 hits. Colton Knispel and Curtis also had a hit in the game.

Springfield would start Ethan Loffer on the mound and Loffer would throw 8 complete innings striking out 12 batters in his appearance. Keegan Stobbe would finish the game. Hitting wise, Springfield would collect 6 hits in the game. Stobbe went 2-4 with 2 singles.

Ogallala will take on York tomorrow in the elimination round after York fell to Wayne 7-4. Wahoo was victorious over Chadron 7-1. The last game of the day features Pierce and Haswell Const. Post 56. That game is scheduled to start around 7:30pm central time. Due to rain in the area this morning, the first game was delayed by an hour.

OGALLALA, NEB - The community of Ogallala is doing a community wide school supply drive. These donations can help local students be prepared for the upcoming school year. The supplies can be pretty much school related like notebooks, folders, backpacks are just a few examples. It has been asked not to bring pencils or crayons since there is a good amount donated, however they won't turn them away if you wish to donate some. You can take your supplies to the yellow bus at Wolf Auto in Ogallala.&nbsp;

Lincoln, NE – July 28, 2023 – Due to high sales, officials in the states participating in the Mega Millions® Lotto game have increased the estimated jackpot amount for the Friday, July 28 drawing to $940 million or $472.5 million with the cash option selected.

The Western Trails Creative District led by Keith County Area Development (KCAD) was recently named a certified Nebraska Creative District and was awarded a $10,000 Nebraska Arts Council Certification Grant. The Nebraska Creative District Program utilizes the arts as an economic driver to support communities in Nebraska by telling their stories and elevating the value of the arts.

Nebraska Creative Districts must submit a letter of interest, an Eligibility Assessment, and a Strategic Plan as part of the approval process. Goals can include attracting artists and creative enterprises, encouraging business and job development, establishing the district as a tourist destination, preserving and reusing historic buildings, and promoting the district’s cultural and historical heritage. Once certified, a district can apply for a Nebraska Arts Council Development Grant in the maximum amount of $250,000.

The Western Trails Creative District plans to develop impactful art projects throughout the district boundaries in Ogallala and will work diligently to leverage grant dollars to help make these projects a reality. This certification process has taken a little over a year and included outreach efforts in the form of business visits and a public input survey. In 2020, the Nebraska State legislature passed a bill to create the Creative Districts program. The program works to promote and support economic development and placemaking opportunities in communities dedicated to growing their arts-related economic sectors.

WESTERN TRAILS CREATIVE DISTRICT IS RECOGNIZED AS AN OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED NEBRASKA CREATIVE DISTRICT

Canon Rath talked with Lorena Beckius about a special presentation going on tonight in Ogallala about Human Trafficking and how folks can be more educated and be aware of human trafficking.&nbsp;

OGALLALA, NEB - The city of Ogallala is holding a special presentation tonight at Memorial Park right by the tennis courts about human trafficking. The event is set to start at 6pm mountain time and will last tell 7:30pm mountain time. The guest speaker will be Nebraska State Trooper Tim Flick.&nbsp;

When the event starts at 6pm, there will be a freedom walk. Once the freedom walk is completed, there will be free hot dogs and that is when Trooper Tim Flick will start the presentation. If you would like to learn more in-depth about the event, check out the podcast above.&nbsp;

OGALLALA, NEB - The Ogallala Adams Bank and Trust senior legion baseball team will begin its 2023 Class B State Tournament run this weekend. Ogallala will be the B6 representative in this years tournament. They defeated Broken Bow twice on Championship Tuesday to advance. They will take on Springfield Post 143 tomorrow morning at 9:30 mountain/10:30 central. We will have the game live on Flatrock 100.7 and online at&nbsp;<a href="https://flatrock1007.com/">https://flatrock1007.com/</a>. Pregame coverage set to begin at 9:20 mountain/10:20 central.

Ogallala was the #2 seed in the B6 tournament this past weekend. They went on to win there first two games before falling to Broken Bow in game three. They responded to the lost with winning the last three games. They outscored their opponents 47-27, averaging about 8 runs a game.

Springfield Post 143 was the #4 seed in the B2 Area tournament. They defeated top seeded Omaha Roncalli 6-0 in the championship game. They are heading to Pierce with a 26-10 record.

Ogallala and Springfield will be the first game of the day. York will take on Wayne at 1:00pm central, Game 3 features Chadron and Wahoo which will be played at 3:30 central, and the last game of the day is Pierce taking on Haswell at 6:00pm central.&nbsp;

Ogallala Baseball 2023 Class B State Tournament run starts Saturday

NEW YORK (AP) — Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles who added high harmonies to such favorites as “Take It Easy” and “The Best of My Love” and stepped out front for the waltz-time ballad “Take It to the Limit,” has died, the band said Thursday.

Meisner died Wednesday night in Los Angeles of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the Eagles said in a statement. He was 77.

The bassist had endured numerous afflictions in recent years and personal tragedy in 2016 when his wife, Lana Rae Meisner, accidentally shot herself and died. Meanwhile, Randy Meisner had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had severe issues with alcohol, according to court records and comments made during a 2015 hearing in which a judge ordered Meisner to receive constant medical care.

Called “the sweetest man in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/music">music</a>&nbsp;business” by former bandmate&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/don-felder">Don Felder</a>, the baby-faced Meisner joined Don Henley,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/8169f05ac21d43dda4b1c1dd8b065e28">Glenn Frey</a>&nbsp;and Bernie Leadon in the early 1970s to form a quintessential Los Angeles band and one of the most popular acts in history.

“Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band,” the Eagles’ statement said. “His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit.’”

Evolving from country rock to hard rock, the Eagles turned out a run of hit singles and albums over the next decade, starting with “Take It Easy” and continuing with “Desperado,” “Hotel California” and “Life In the Fast Lane” among others. Although chastised by many critics as slick and superficial, the Eagles released two of the most popular albums of all time, “Hotel California” and “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975),” which with sales at 38 million the Recording Industry Association of America ranked with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as the No. 1 seller.

Led by singer-songwriters Henley and Frey, the Eagles were initially branded as “mellow” and “easy listening.” But by their third album, the 1974 release “On the Border,” they had added a rock guitarist, Felder, and were turning away from country and bluegrass.

Leadon, an old-fashioned bluegrass picker, was unhappy with the new sound and left after the 1975 album “One of These Nights.” (He was replaced by another rock guitarist, Joe Walsh.) Meisner stayed on through the 1976 release of “Hotel California,” the band’s most acclaimed record, but was gone soon after. His departure, ironically, was touched off by the song he cowrote and was best known for, “Take It to the Limit.”

A shy Nebraskan torn between fame and family life, Meisner had been ill and homesick during the “Hotel California” tour (his first marriage was breaking up) and was reluctant to have the spotlight for “Take It to the Limit,” a showcase for his nasally tenor. His objections during a Knoxville, Tennessee, concert in the summer of 1977 so angered Frey that the two argued backstage and Meisner left soon after. His replacement, Timothy B. Schmit, remained with the group over the following decades, along with Henley, Walsh and Frey, who died in 2016.

As a solo artist, Meisner never approached the success of the Eagles, but did have hits with “Hearts On Fire” and “Deep Inside My Heart” and played on records by Walsh, James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg among others. Meanwhile, the Eagles ended a 14-year hiatus in 1994 and toured with Schmit even though Meisner had played on all but one of their earlier studio albums. He did join group members past and present in 1998 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed “Take It Easy” and “Hotel California.” For a decade, he was part of World Classic Rockers, a touring act that at various times included Donovan, Spencer Davis and Denny Laine.

Meisner was married twice, the first time when he was still in his teens, and had three kids.

The son of sharecroppers and grandson of a classical violinist, Meisner was playing in local bands as a teenager and by the end of the 1960s had moved to California and joined a country rock group, Poco, along with Richie Furay and Jimmy Messina. But he would remember being angered that Furay wouldn’t let him listen to the studio mix of their first album and left the group before it came out: His successor was Timothy B. Schmit.

Meisner backed Ricky Nelson, played on Taylor’s “Sweet Baby James” album and befriended Henley and Frey when all were performing in Linda Ronstadt’s band. With Ronstadt’s blessing, they formed the Eagles, were signed up by David Geffen for his Asylum Records label and released their self-titled debut album in 1972.

Frey and Henley sang lead most of the time, but Meisner was the key behind “Take It the Limit.” It appeared on the “One of These Nights” album from 1975 and became a top 5 single, a weary, plaintive song later covered by Etta James and as a duet by Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.

“The purpose of the whole Eagles thing to me was that combination and the chemistry that made all the harmonies just sound perfect,” Meisner told the music web site www.lobstergottalent.com in 2015. “The funny thing is after we made those albums I never listened to them and it is only when someone comes over or I am at somebody’s house and it gets played in the background that is when I’ll tell myself, ‘Damn, these records are good.’”

BRULE, NEB - The 99th annual Brule Day is Saturday, August 5th in Brule. The day is filled of fun activities for families to enjoy. The first even of the day is the start of the 5k Walk/Run that starts between 7:15am - 7:30am mountain time. Registration will begin at 6:45am for the event.

During the late morning, the judging for the parade will begin at 10:00am mountain time and the parade will begin at 10:30am. Throughout the rest of they day, there will be plenty of events for kids to enjoy. For a full schedule of events and times, check the graphic below.

Annual Keith County Fair Parade Sunday

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala defeated #6 Broken Bow in walk off fashion in game one 4-3, then dominated Broken Bow in game two 17-8 to advance to the 2023 Class B State Tournament this weekend in Pierce, Nebraska. The tournament begins July 29th and runs through August 2nd.&nbsp;

It was a pitchers/defensive dual between both teams. Ogallala's Caden Rezac who got the start game 1 started the game with a strike out but ended up walking the next four batters which gave Broken Bow an early 1-0 but after a mound visit from Ogallala Head Coach Ty Benson, Rezac went on to strike out the top half of the side.&nbsp;

Starting on the mound for Broken Bow was Central Methodist commit Gavin Goodner. First pitch he threw, Rezac sent flying down the right field line for a solo shot homerun to tie the game at 1. Both pitchers only allowed 1 run through three innings.

In the bottom half of the 4th, Ogallala's Jayden Curtis started the inning off with a single. Next batter Max Mueller would walk to first. Goodner would battle back to strike out the next two batters. With two outs and Curtis at third, Mueller at second, Michael Redden was at the plate. Goodner, who thought he struck out Redden, was called for a balk by the third base umpire which scored Curtis to give a 2-1.

Ogallala would add one more run in the bottom of the 6th to expand their lead 3-1. In the top of the 7th, Broken Bow third baseman Hagan Campbell started the inning off with a double. Next batter, Eli Coble would reach first on a walk. Brice Chaplin would hit a double to centerfield which brought in two runs tying the game at 3. A hard-hit ground ball to Curtis was fielded and the throw was in time for out #3.

Cole Stokey would lead off the bottom of the 7th with a single. Coming to the plate later in the inning was cleanup hitter Curtis who would send a deep ball to centerfield which scored the game winning run where Ogallala won game one 4-3.

Rezac would throw 5 2/3 innings striking out 14. He didn't allow a hit. Colton Knispel would come in relief to finish the game. Knispel struck out 1 in his appearance. Ogallala would combine for 6 hits in the game.

Broken Bow's Caden Holm who is heading into his sophomore year of college and a member of the Hastings College Bronco baseball team would get his 2nd appearance against Ogallala. Aydan Halligan would get a single off Holm and later score in the top half of the inning where Holm walked him in. Ogallala would take a 1-0 heading to the bottom half of the 1st.

Colton Knispel would start the 2nd game for Ogallala after he had thrown 29 pitches to stay under the pitch count previously. Broken Bow catcher Max Dension which reach base after sending a double to left center field. Next batter Brice Chaplin would hit a 2-run homerun to left field to give Broken Bow a 2-1.

Ogallala would remain scoreless after the top half of the 2nd while Broken Bow would add 3 runs in the bottom half. This postseason, Ogallala has had games where they would explode in an inning. In the top half of the 3rd, Ogallala would score 8 runs. Only 3 hits in the inning, however Holm who would walk 6 batters and was pulled from the game. Chaplin would come in relief but could not get things rolling and would give up a single to Stokey and walk 2 batters as well. Ogallala regained the lead 9-4.&nbsp;

Broken Bow would slowly chip away at Ogallala's lead as they would add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to make it 9-6. However, Ogallala would add 4 more runs in the top of the 5th. Then, they would add 4 more runs in the top of the 6th to make the score 17-6. Despite a late run from Broken Bow, who would add 2 more in the bottom of the 6th, the game was called due to mercy rule and Ogallala wins game two 17-8.

Ogallala is the 2023 B6 American Legion Senior District Tournament champion and earned a bid to the 2023 Class B State Tournament. Ogallala will take on Springfield Post 143 in the first found at 9:30 mountain time. Pregame coverage will begin at 9:20 mountain time.&nbsp;

A hard-hit ground ball to Curtis was fielded and the throw was in time for out #3.</p><p>Cole Stokey would lead off the bottom of the 7th with a single. Coming to the plate later in the inning was cleanup hitter Curtis who would send a deep ball to centerfield which scored the game winning run where Ogallala won game one 4-3.</p><p>Rezac would throw 5 2/3 innings striking out 14. He didn't allow a hit. Colton Knispel would come in relief to finish the game. Knispel struck out 1 in his appearance. Ogallala would combine for 6 hits in the game.</p><figure>

                    </figure><p><b>Game 2 Recap</b></p><p>Broken Bow's Caden Holm who is heading into his sophomore year of college and a member of the Hastings College Bronco baseball team would get his 2nd appearance against Ogallala. Aydan Halligan would get a single off Holm and later score in the top half of the inning where Holm walked him in. Ogallala would take a 1-0 heading to the bottom half of the 1st.</p><p>Colton Knispel would start the 2nd game for Ogallala after he had thrown 29 pitches to stay under the pitch count previously. Broken Bow catcher Max Dension which reach base after sending a double to left center field. Next batter Brice Chaplin would hit a 2-run homerun to left field to give Broken Bow a 2-1.</p><p>Ogallala would remain scoreless after the top half of the 2nd while Broken Bow would add 3 runs in the bottom half. This postseason, Ogallala has had games where they would explode in an inning. In the top half of the 3rd, Ogallala would score 8 runs. Only 3 hits in the inning, however Holm who would walk 6 batters and was pulled from the game. Chaplin would come in relief but could not get things rolling and would give up a single to Stokey and walk 2 batters as well. Ogallala regained the lead 9-4.&nbsp;</p><p>Broken Bow would slowly chip away at Ogallala's lead as they would add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to make it 9-6. However, Ogallala would add 4 more runs in the top of the 5th. Then, they would add 4 more runs in the top of the 6th to make the score 17-6. Despite a late run from Broken Bow, who would add 2 more in the bottom of the 6th, the game was called due to mercy rule and Ogallala wins game two 17-8.</p><p>Ogallala is the 2023 B6 American Legion Senior District Tournament champion and earned a bid to the 2023 Class B State Tournament. Ogallala will take on Springfield Post 143 in the first found at 9:30 mountain time. Pregame coverage will begin at 9:20 mountain time.&nbsp;

Ogallala City Council Meeting Tonight's Agenda

McCook, Nebr - #2 Ogallala moves on to the B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament Championship Game after defeating #5 Holdrege 12-4 Monday night in the elimination game. Ogallala will have a rematch with #6 Broken Bow who they lost to 9-4 Sunday afternoon. Ogallala will have to win twice to advance to the state tournament. They will take on Broken Bow tomorrow at 4:30 MST. Ogallala's rematch with Holdrege started off very similar to the first time these two teams played in the first round of districts on Friday. Scoreless two innings for both teams before Holdrege would strike first in the bottom of the third. Holdrege's Matt Janssen would reach on base from a hit by pitch. Beau Jensen also reached base before Keagan Steinke would hit a 2 RBI double to give Holdrege an early l2-0.

Top of the fourth, Ogallala's Ian Shaw would hit a double in the inning. Max Mueller would also hit a double to score Shaw. Next batter, Colton Knispel single would score Mueller to tie the game at 2. Both teams would score a run in the fourth which resulted the score 3-3 after four completed innings.

This post season run, Ogallala has had an explosive inning minus the Broken Bow game and this time it was the top half of the fifth inning. The team would rack in 7 runs to extend there lead 9-2. Caden Rezac's two triples in the fifth was the highlight of the inning. Shaw would also hit a triple in the fifth inning as well.&nbsp;

Things got quiet tell the top half of the 7th when Rezac would send a three run homerun down the right field line to give us the final score of 12-4. Hitting and pitching was a key component for Ogallala in tonight's elimination game.

Getting the start for Ogallala tonight was Aydan Halligan. Halligan would throw 5 innings while striking out three batters. Cole Stokey would toss the 6th inning striking out one while Josh Christensen would finish the 7th inning striking out two batters. As a whole the staff struck out 6 batters and allowed 7 hits.

Holdrege would start Keagan Stienke who would go 4 2/3 striking out 4. Trey Weaver would come in relief but got pulled after 4 batters. Cole Guthrie would finish the game for Holdrege striking out three batters.

Ogallala's hot bats would finish the game with 14 hits. Rezac was 4 for 5 with a single, two triples, and a three run homerun. He was a double shy from the cycle. Shaw went 3 for 4 with a single and two doubles. Mueller was 2 for 5 with a single and a double.&nbsp;

Ogallala and Broken Bow are the last two remaining teams in the&nbsp;B6 American Legion Seniors Tournament. Broken Bow only has to win one while Ogallala will need to win twice. The winner will advance to the 2023 Class B State Championship tournament in Pierce, Nebraska. The tournament is July 29th - August 2nd.
