Dennis “Beeny” V. Beenblossom passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at his home in Gothenburg at the age of 80. Dennis was born May 5, 1944 in Lexington, Nebraska to Delpha and Florence (Weible) Beenblossom. He married Lila Carr on December 16, 1962 at the Methodist Church in Cozad. Their union was blessed with 3 children: Kandy, Jim and Denise. He worked at the hay mill and Monroe Auto in Cozad. They moved to Kearney and he went to trade school in Kansas City to learn auto body. &nbsp;They moved back to Cozad where Dennis went to work at Ford Garage in Gothenburg for many years. They moved to Gothenburg to raise their family and purchased Top Notch Radiator in 1970. Dennis enjoyed old cars and he and Lila both loved to drag race. They lived at Jeffrey Lake for several years. Dennis loved the lake house and lake life, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Claude Tappan; sister Jackie Meier, brother Thomas Beenblossom, Granddaughter LeAnn Beenblossom, great granddaughters Lilly Jean Romero and Isabel Phelps.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Lila, children Kandy (Tony) Pflaster of Cozad, Jim (Michelle "Moe") Beenblossom of Gothenburg, Denise (Tom) Reichert of Kearney; grandchildren Dusty Romero of North Platte, Lindsey (Mark) Phelps of Callaway, Ozzie (Liz) Romero of Cozad, Adrienne (Ryan) Rahmann of Kearney, Tarina (Kristina Brandon) Beenblossom of Gothenburg, Triteny (Levi) Schmeeckle of Cozad, Tysen (Kelsey) Werner of Cozad, Eli (Lexi Anderson) Werner of Rock Port TX; Great-Grandchildren, Emmett, Brecken, Khayden, Kelseigh, Ozzie Jr "Zie", Maya, Kyndell, Quinn, Otto, Inley, and Winston;&nbsp; brothers Doug and Randy Beenblossom; sister Rhonda and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

The Beenblossom family has requested a Celebration of Life be held in Dennis’s honor as opposed to a traditional funeral service. We request all of Dennis’s loved ones and friends to join us in celebrating his life on Saturday, June 15th, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the commons area at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Carla Bales was called to her heavenly home on Monday, June 3, 2024, in Wahoo, Nebraska. &nbsp;She was born July 17, 1935, to Charles and Selma (Bamesberger) Cruver. Carla was the third child of four girls and attended school in McCook. She married Raymond Doyle on Sept. 6, 1953, at the Peace Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with four children that they raised in McCook. On June 14, 1980, she married Floyd Bales and gained five extra children.

&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Carla sold Tupperware for many years, worked as a legal secretary for Hanson and Hanson, McCook Abstract and taught a few night classes at McCook Community College. She also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels in McCook and in her later years enjoyed the Heritage Senior Center meals, fellowship and was always up for a game of Bridge. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were so loved by her, and you could always count on her to be sitting at a ballgame, dance recital, wrestling match or at the lake and any other activity her loved ones would be participating in. Of course, she always had her bag of yarn or thread and would crochet during any event to add to her craft items she loved to sell. &nbsp;Carla spent the last seven years in Wahoo due to Alzheimer's but her quick wit and smile made her a beloved resident of those that cared for her. She was known as the “Ice Cream Lady” for her love of ice cream and the ability to create the largest ice cream cone. Her family will be forever grateful for the love and care Carla received at South Haven Nursing Home.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Selma Cruver; her sisters, Edith, Irene and Sandy; her husband, Floyd Bales, stepchildren, Randy Bales, Pamela Foight, and Robin Seabrook; and grandchildren, Chantel Doyle, Nicki Bales and Shanna Bales.

Carla Marie Bales (1935-2024)

Gerald L. Meissner, 85, of Wellfleet, NE passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at his home. &nbsp;He was born on July 12, 1938 in Quick, NE the son of Leo and June Meissner.

He married Lynn in Lexington, NE on May 27, 1968. They were blessed with six loving children, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Gerald served the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. &nbsp;He was stationed in Hawaii as an operator. &nbsp;Over his lifetime career, he had several jobs as a switchboard operator and truck driver. &nbsp;His true passion was his family farm in Wellfleet. &nbsp;He will be truly missed by his loved ones and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Kenlyn, Kevin, Lesley, Troy, Ginia, and Susie; grandchildren, Kendrick, Kendahl, Breanna, Austin, Matthew, Madison; 6 great grandchildren; numerous extended family - nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, and wife of 54 years, Lynn.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Gerald’s Life will be held at Thanksgiving, which was the family’s most cherished holiday.

Shirley B Dicke was born on September 27, 1928 to Ervin and Marie Ruopp Amman near Naponee, Nebraska. She was the oldest of four children, with two younger sisters and a brother. Shirley departed this world on Thursday, June 6, 2024 peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and family.

&nbsp;As a child growing up in the depression and the WWII years, Shirley knew the value of hard work and practicality. It fostered her lifelong love of gardening, canning, sewing, music, and the joy of simple living. After graduating high school in Naponee, she started work as a bookkeeper in Franklin. It was here she met the love of her life, Leonard, and they were married in 1952 and eventually moved to McCook, Nebraska where they raised their three children. For many years she worked the front desk at TRW.

Life always revolved around extended family and friends: picnics at the lake, legendary family dinners, lots of camping and just crazy fun. She was the wonderful mom, the fun aunt and always a loving grandmother. Her home brimmed full of light, laughter, and love. She was a member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years. Shirley was a Sunday school teacher and also taught piano for many years, instructing all three of her children and several of her grandkids too, instilling in them her love of music.&nbsp;

After Leonard retired, they became intrepid snowbirds for many years heading to Arizona with friends for winters filled with golf and relaxation. They loved their 5th wheel camper and took trips ranging from Canada to Mexico with yearly camping in Colorado with the kids and grandkids.&nbsp;

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Doris, brother Glen, daughter Karen Reiners, son Larry “Hank” Dicke, and her granddaughter Chantal.&nbsp;

Shirley is survived by her husband of 71 years, Leonard of McCook, NE, her daughter Janice (James) Ashby of Lincoln, NE, daughter-in-law Theresa Dicke of McCook, NE, sister Lorene (Rodney) Richter of Naponee, NE, brother-in-law Hank (Val) Dicke of Holdrege, NE along with beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Her laughter, bright smile, and warm embrace will be sorely missed.&nbsp;

Marilyn M. Matson, age 82, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE on June 6, 2024.

Marilyn was born in McCook, NE, on March 1, 1942, to parents Orville and Elsie (Barger) Shull. She attended McCook High School where she graduated with the class of 1960.&nbsp;

Marilyn married Wayne R. Matson in Las Vegas in the year 1981. Marilyn and Wayne were married for 37 years until Wayne’s passing on March 29, 2002.

Throughout her life she worked at Mac’s Drive Inn for 20 plus years and then owned and operated her own cleaning service. Marilyn loved playing Farkel with friends, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Marilyn will be remembered most for helping others and her outgoing personality.

Marilyn is proceeded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Charlie Shull; sisters, Judy Rohr and Vonda Brunswick; and daughters, Debra and Kathy.

She is survived by son, Clifton (Jennifer) Matson of Lincoln, NE; granddaughters, Holli Matson and Brittany Dawn Schlund; grandson, Micheal Kiel; nieces, Carol, Brenda, Karen, and Tracie; nephew, Jerry; best friend, Mary Howard; and many extended family members.&nbsp;

Marilyn M Matson (1942-2024)

Bethel “Beth” Eilene Miller, 100, of Oshkosh passed away early Friday morning, May 31, 2024 at her home on Lost Creek Ranch north of Oshkosh surrounded by her loving family.

Cremation has taken place and there are no formal services planned. Private family service will be held at a later date.

Bethel was born on September 21, 1923 in Davenport, lowa to George &amp; Lora (Potter) Bostwick, where her father was attending medical school. After his graduation they returned to Nebraska. Bethel graduated from North Platte High School and attended Kearney State College. She then married Art B. Miller on February 14, 1943. To this union two sons were born: Ted &amp; Rick. Their marriage lasted almost seventy years until Art's passing on February 4, 2013.

As a young bride she and Art owned and operated a small dairy farm near Maxwell, Nebraska. Bethel helped milk at 4 a.m., cooked on a wood burning stove and had no indoor plumbing. Years later they purchased a motel in Sidney which Bethel managed. &nbsp;Ted &amp; Rick then went to school in Sidney. Art traveled from Maxwell on weekends to be with the family while his cousin took care of the farm in Maxwell. &nbsp;Due to a horse related accident that severely injured Art, they sought an easier life and bought a ranch north of Oshkosh in 1966. They ran a cattle operation and grew corn and alfalfa until Art passed away at age 89.

Bethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. Bethel's passion was gardening. She so enjoyed flowers. Her yard was once featured in a garden magazine, and she won many ribbons at the Garden County Fair for her creative arrangements. She was a charter member of the Garden County Garden Club for over sixty years and hosted their annual Harvest Banquet at the ranch each year. She definitely had a gift of hospitality as she welcomed everyone to her home and provided meals for them no matter the time of day and provided beds if they needed to stay. Bethel was playful and mischievous. She often caught her family off guard by her antics, so they always knew to expect the unexpected when visiting the ranch. &nbsp;She cooked for all the brandings, even the Rocky Mountain Oysters! She was a really good cook! No one could match her cinnamon rolls. She also won ribbons at fair for her baking.

Bethel was actively involved in the community: member of Wesleyan Church teaching Sunday School, youth group activities with hayrides, ladies group and volunteering wherever needed. Bethel remained active until she fractured her hip in 2019. After recovering at Ted's home, she chose to stay at the ranch with her roly-poly walker and golf cart to get around planting her garden and flowers until May of this year. Bethel was a true pioneer woman as her life has been lived in the spirit of early Nebraskans. She was given the honorary title award by Governor Jim Pillen in 2023: ADMIRAL The Great Navy of the STATE OF NEBRASKA.

She is survived by sons Ted (Karen) of Oshkosh, Rick, of Tucumcari, New Mexico, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, brothers, George (Marilyn) and Dick Bostwick and nieces, nephews and cousins.

In eternal life Bethel joins her husband, Art, parents, sisters Lois (Irvin) &amp; Jeannie (Jerry), granddaughter Laura, niece Diny &amp; nephew David.

 </figure>Bethel “Beth” Eilene Miller, 100, of Oshkosh passed away early Friday morning, May 31, 2024 at her home on Lost Creek Ranch north of Oshkosh surrounded by her loving family.Cremation has taken place and there are no formal services planned. After his graduation they returned to Nebraska. Bethel graduated from North Platte High School and attended Kearney State College. She then married Art B. Miller on February 14, 1943. To this union two sons were born: Ted &amp; Rick. Their marriage lasted almost seventy years until Art's passing on February 4, 2013.As a young bride she and Art owned and operated a small dairy farm near Maxwell, Nebraska. Bethel helped milk at 4 a.m., cooked on a wood burning stove and had no indoor plumbing. Years later they purchased a motel in Sidney which Bethel managed. &nbsp;Ted &amp; Rick then went to school in Sidney. Art traveled from Maxwell on weekends to be with the family while his cousin took care of the farm in Maxwell. &nbsp;Due to a horse related accident that severely injured Art, they sought an easier life and bought a ranch north of Oshkosh in 1966. They ran a cattle operation and grew corn and alfalfa until Art passed away at age 89.Bethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. Bethel's passion was gardening. She so enjoyed flowers. Her yard was once featured in a garden magazine, and she won many ribbons at the Garden County Fair for her creative arrangements. She was a charter member of the Garden County Garden Club for over sixty years and hosted their annual Harvest Banquet at the ranch each year. She definitely had a gift of hospitality as she welcomed everyone to her home and provided meals for them no matter the time of day and provided beds if they needed to stay. Bethel was playful and mischievous. She often caught her family off guard by her antics, so they always knew to expect the unexpected when visiting the ranch. &nbsp;She cooked for all the brandings, even the Rocky Mountain Oysters! She was a really good cook! No one could match her cinnamon rolls. She also won ribbons at fair for her baking.Bethel was actively involved in the community: member of Wesleyan Church teaching Sunday School, youth group activities with hayrides, ladies group and volunteering wherever needed. Bethel remained active until she fractured her hip in 2019. After recovering at Ted's home, she chose to stay at the ranch with her roly-poly walker and golf cart to get around planting her garden and flowers until May of this year. Bethel was a true pioneer woman as her life has been lived in the spirit of early Nebraskans. She was given the honorary title award by Governor Jim Pillen in 2023: ADMIRAL The Great Navy of the STATE OF NEBRASKA.She is survived by sons Ted (Karen) of Oshkosh, Rick, of Tucumcari, New Mexico, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, brothers, George (Marilyn) and Dick Bostwick and nieces, nephews and cousins.In eternal life Bethel joins her husband, Art, parents, sisters Lois (Irvin) &amp; Jeannie (Jerry), granddaughter Laura, niece Diny &amp; nephew David.

E W “Smitty” Smith, 93, of North Platte, NE formerly of TX passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital. He was born on July 26, 1930 in Lubbock, TX the son of Ewell and Ideary Smith.

E W grew up around Walnut Springs, Cleburne, and Fort Worth, Texas. &nbsp;He graduated from Mansfield high school and excelled in baseball, football, and track. &nbsp;He started college at John Tarleton in Stephenville, TX and received a basketball scholarship. &nbsp;While in college he met and married Billye Dale Robonoe in 1949 and together they had two children, David and Diana. &nbsp;E W worked for various companies including Texas Electric Service Co. as a lineman, Travelite Trailor Co. in Fort Worth as a carpenter, Convair Aircraft plant as a patternmaker. &nbsp;Later upon moving to Retta, TX he worked as a builder of prototype models and tooling models for injection molds for Loma Corp. of Fort Worth, TX and then for Doskocil Mfg., where he retired. &nbsp;He enjoyed hunting and traveling throughout the U.S. &nbsp;In retirement he enjoyed being a gunsmith, a ham radio operator, and an avid reader of Texas and early U.S. history. &nbsp;He also enjoyed playing autoharp, guitar and harmonica in the band “High Cotton”. They retired to Mountain View, Arkansas. &nbsp;Following the death of his wife of 64 years Billye, he was fortunate to meet Billie Jean Beall. &nbsp;They became loving and close companions moving to North Platte, NE to be closer to her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory are his significant other, Billie Jean Beall of North Platte; daughter, Diana Smith of Austin, TX; stepchildren, Leonard E. (Christine) Beall of North Platte, Michael (Connie) Beall of North Platte, and Patrick Beall of New Mexico; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and many other special friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Billye Dale; son, David Smith; and a granddaughter.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mary Lynn (Graf) Marsh passed peacefully in her sleep on June 2, 2024, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mary was born August 31, 1946 in Loop City, Nebraska to George and Jannetta (Jensen) Graf.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Her parents made their home in Brush, Colorado where Mary, along with her four siblings, attended the local school and helped on the family farm. &nbsp;When Mary was a sophomore, her parents moved the family to Indianola, Nebraska where her mother found work as a schoolteacher and her father worked for the railroad. &nbsp;Shortly after the move, she met the love of her life, Walter “Skip” Marsh. &nbsp;She graduated from Indianola High School in 1964. &nbsp;She then attended Colorado State College of Education at Greeley, Colorado. &nbsp;She Graduated with a degree in teaching in 1967. &nbsp;After graduation, Mary and Skip Marsh were married in the Catholic Church in Brush on June 3, 1967. &nbsp;She and Skip returned to Indianola where Skip farmed and Mary taught kindergarten at Indianola Elementary School. &nbsp;They soon started a family. &nbsp;Mary taught a few years but as her family grew she decided she needed to be at home to raise her children. &nbsp;Mary and Skip raised eight children. They are members of St Catherine's Catholic Church, Mary was an active member of the Altar Society, Mrs. XJC’s and the Red Hat Society. &nbsp;She was a scout leader, 4-H leader, substitute teacher, leader of the CCD program for the children in the church, and kept herself busy with her passions, which were gardening and sewing. &nbsp;In 1995, while her last three children were still at home she and Skip bought the Indianola newspaper and for the next 22 years she was the editor-in-chief of the Indianola News. &nbsp;She loved reading, sewing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. &nbsp;She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. &nbsp; &nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jennetta Graf; son, Joseph; and sister, Linda Muchow.

&nbsp; &nbsp; She is survived by her husband, Walter “Skip” Marsh of Indianola; children: William (Kathy) Marsh of McCook, Nebraska, James (Amanda) Marsh of Pensacola, Florida, Thomas (Monica) Marsh of Odessa, Missouri, Shari (Brian) Smith of Burke, Virginia, Julie (Daniel) Sommer of Omaha, Nebraska, Amy Sweigard of Omaha, Robert (Laura) Marsh of Elmwood, Nebraska and David (Rachna) Marsh of Omaha; 20 grandchildren: Laken and Grant, Kegan and Juliana, Aaron, Jacob, Trinia and Jonny, Kyri, Andrew, Samantha and Nick, Laura, Gheiron and Mya, Jacob, Isabeau, Donny, Bob, Kelly, Brooklyn, Brody, Kourtney, Erik, and Vian; four great-grandchildren: Luna, Mila, Dillon and Cyrus; three brothers: Larry Muchow, Allen (Wen) Graf and Ernest (Ruth) Graf; and one 1 sister, Joan (Ed) Mallon.

Donald Scott Howard, 55, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on Monday June 3, 2024 in North Platte. He was born on August 10, 1968 in North Platte, the son of Jack D. and Doris Kae (Geis) Howard.&nbsp;

Scott graduated from North Platte High School and attended college in Colby, KS. He worked for over 30 years as an engineer with the Union Pacific Railroad. Scott enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting and fishing.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Doris Howard of North Platte; son Brandon (Amanda) Howard of North Platte; grandson, Huxton; Sister, Jamie Scholtz of North Platte; and many beloved relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Donald Scott Howard (1968-2024)

&nbsp; Rodney Ray Longmore, 70, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, Nebraska.

He was born on July 9, 1953, in Sutherland, Nebraska, to Clarence Lewis and Ruby May (Matson) Longmore. His family moved to Elsie, Nebraska, where he graduated from High School. After high school, Rodney moved to Cozad, where he began his career working for Tenneco-Monroe. He dedicated over 30 years to the company before ultimately retiring. On August 31, 1974, Rodney was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy Ballenger in Overton, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this union: April, Donna, and Tony. They made their home in Cozad for many years until 2019, when Rodney moved to Callaway, Nebraska.

Rodney enjoyed spending his time outdoors where he could go fishing and spend many hours tending to his garden. If he wasn't outside, you could find him at home, working on his cross stitch, reading mystery and true crime novels, watching westerns or his favorite show, Wheel of Fortune. Everyone knew not to bother Rodney once Wheel of Fortune was on. He loved to joke around with his family, and enjoyed making people laugh and smile.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, April (Matt) Dinges of Cozad, Donna (Jermey) Siemering of Cozad, and Tony (Robin) Longmore of Grand Island; grandchildren, Christopher (Alexis) Dinges, Jasper Dinges, Caden Dinges, Karly (Dakota) Pooschke, Trestian (Tori) Siemering, Taylore (Makayla) Siemering, Austin Longmore, Zachary Longmore, and Hannah Kubik; great-grandchildren, Harry, Harper, Braylynn and Oakley, as well as extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Longmore, and sister, Wanda Ballenger.

Philip Ewert (1936-2024)

Connie Lou (Loghry) Dye, 84, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Linden Court.

Connie was born on January 4, 1940 to Max and Nellie (Pulley) Loghry in Maywood, NE. &nbsp;She was raised on a farm south of Curtis and attended grade school at District 91 in Frontier County. &nbsp;She attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, graduating with the class of 1957.

After graduation, Connie came to North Platte to attend the School of Commerce. &nbsp;Connie met Dallis Dye at a Hadley Barrett dance in Sutherland, NE, and they were married on April 24, 1960, in Curtis. &nbsp;Two children, Rodney and Nancy, were born to this union. &nbsp;They made their home in North Platte except for living in McCook from 1963 to 1969.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband Dallis in 2013, her parents, a sister Leona and husband Ivan Boone, her in laws Orley and Edith (Baxter) Dye, a sister-in-law Carolyn Dye, and a great granddaughter Leyha Bartels.

Connie is survived by a son, Rod (Crystal) Dye of North Platte; daughter, Nancy (Terry) McNew of North Platte; six grandchildren, Sara (Kyle) Baker of North Platte, Jennifer (Troy) Bayne of Hershey, Melissa (Shane) Blackburn of North Platte, Josh (Jane) Dye of Sutherland, Nicholas (Catie) McNew, and Brandi (Justin) Erickson both of North Platte; eleven great grandchildren, three great-great grandsons; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Maywood Cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 10th at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. &nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>Connie Lou (Loghry) Dye, 84, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Linden Court.Connie was born on January 4, 1940 to Max and Nellie (Pulley) Loghry in Maywood, NE. &nbsp;She was raised on a farm south of Curtis and attended grade school at District 91 in Frontier County. &nbsp;She attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, graduating with the class of 1957.After graduation, Connie came to North Platte to attend the School of Commerce. &nbsp;Connie met Dallis Dye at a Hadley Barrett dance in Sutherland, NE, and they were married on April 24, 1960, in Curtis. &nbsp;Two children, Rodney and Nancy, were born to this union. &nbsp;They made their home in North Platte except for living in McCook from 1963 to 1969.Connie worked for Dr. C. &nbsp; Johnnyette K Boyd, a beloved wife, daughter, mother, and friend, passed away on May 30, 2024, in Loup City, NE, at the age of 83. She was born in Vidalia, GA on December 17, 1940, to parents John and Bertha (Colson) Knies. She was a devoted wife to Larry N. Jake Harrison VanHorn Sr., born March 13, 1971, died on June 2, 2024, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado, after a long battle with diabetes.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home in Chappell with Pastor Martin Fleming officiating.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Jake grew up in Western Montana and loved to be outside. He rodeoed in high school and played football and wrestled. He was a true and loyal friend with a goofy sense of humor about him. He went to horseshoeing school in Montana and worked on ranches. Being a cowboy was his true calling. He loved working with horses and cattle. He moved to Grand Island, Nebraska, to work in a feedlot, thinking the weather would be warmer. He did not realize what humidity was. After that, he thought he should have kept going south!

He did not end up going south, though. Nor did he travel back north. He stayed in Central Nebraska. There he met good friends and eventually moved out to Western Nebraska where, in 2001, he met Patsy Baker. Later, on September 5, 2004, Jake and Patsy were married. &nbsp;Together, they moved to Gillette, Wyoming, where their daughter, Bailey, was born. Not long after that, they moved back to Ogallala, Nabraska.

Jake worked at some different jobs until health issues got in the way. He then started his own leather shop. This was a dream of his since long before he and Patsy met. He ran his own business with the help of family for 10 years. Jake and Patsy welcomed their son, Jack Jr., during this time.

Jake was forced to close his shop as his diabetes worsened.

He enjoyed hunting, working with leather, and hanging out with family. He loved his kids, and wanted to show them all the things in life that he could. He wanted them to learn all the lessons the easy way, instead of the hard way - how he had learned them.

Jake is preceded in death by his father, Jack Harrison VanHorn; stepfather, Jerry Gasho; grandparents, James and Gladys VanHorn, Chester and Rose Gasho, Charles Keith, and Ada Moore; and his nephew, Bryer Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy VanHorn; his kids, Bailey and Jack VanHorn; his mother, Linda Gasho; sister-in-law, Lisa (Gabe) Wilson; nieces, Brianna and Annlyn Wilson; nephew, Truman (Caroline) Wilson; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jack "Jake" Harrison Van Horn Sr. (1971-2024)

&nbsp; Donna Folkers, 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, passed away at Country House memory care unit in Grand Island on June 4, 2024.

Donna was born on August 31, 1935 and was the daughter of Jasper and Doris Hudson of Lexington, Nebraska. Donna and her three sisters lived in and attended school in Lexington during the beginning years of her life, until she met her late husband, Dwaine Folkers. On August 15, 1953 Donna married Dwaine, while stationed in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Following their marriage, they moved to the family farm where they began building their life and family together.

From their marriage they were blessed with four children, Doug, Scott, Craig, Penny. When they were school age, Donna decided to embark on her career in Cosmetology. After successfully completing cosmetology school and receiving her license in North Platte, Donna opened her own salon in the back of the LaGrace Clothing store in Gothenburg. After a few years of being in business, Donna had her own shop built, Donna's Beauty Salon, which was the go to place to get your hair done! After 30 years in the business Donna sold her building and business.

Donna enjoyed plants and flowers, she could grow anything. Donna played the piano and organ by ear, and loved to go on rides and dance. Donna at one time served on the kitchen committee and also quilted at the American Lutheran Church.

Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Dwaine, son Craig, parents and parents in-law.

Donna is survived by her children, Doug (Marcia) Folkers of Littleton, CO; Scott (Christy) Folkers of Omaha, NE; daughter, Penny Thorman of Gothenburg, NE; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and six great great-grandchildren, her sisters Marilyn, Jackie and Karen.

Starla Nadine Sherman Jackson was born January 24, 1969, in Valentine, NE to Hugh Loren and Roberta Jean (Lawlis) Sherman. Being the last born from a family of nine, Starla was blessed with creativity and a strong work ethic. She attended college at Colby Community College in Colby, KS, and studied for a degree in veterinary tech. However, she married before finishing her degree.

Starla was a person with a very generous heart and loved all things animals, especially horses. Horses were always a part of her life whether she was riding or caring for them. Her consideration for others was evident in her baking and cooking skills, and then giving away to others. Other interests and hobbies she loved were quilting, crafting, and reading books. She always had a large and beautiful garden that she used for giving away produce and canning many jars for later use. Starla had a very creative heart and at one time wrote short articles of interest for the Fence Post magazine.

Her love for horses and cattle was evident as she mostly worked for feedlots wherever her home was established.

Starla is survived by daughter Jamie (Will) Huston from Torrington, WY, sons Brett Menuey of Washington, and Rowdy Jackson of Litchfield, two grandchildren Danielle and Montgomery Huston, siblings Frances Vasa of Arthur, Myra Boje of Hampton, Neva Sherman of Minnesota, and Sally Ruelas of Wisconsin, sisters-in-laws Helen Sherman of Valentine and Jane Sherman of Valentine.

Starla was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Roberta Sherman, husband Jerry Jackson, son Taylor Finley, and brothers Gary, Blaine, Galen, and Frank Sherman.

The early afternoon of June 3, 2024 our Mom, Jean Budd Cissell, took the narrow path home. We know that while those who knew her grieve their loss, she is rejoicing to finally be in the presence of our Lord. Mom's life was a full one, and her heart was always open to those in need. Her laugh was filled with joy, her hugs were pure love, and her talks were spot on, enveloped in grace. Her never budging faith allowed our family to see how a Christian's life should be. Through the loss of a child, her family, her husband, and a very long illness, she fixed her eyes on the positives in everything. The world lost a great lady, but our Lord is smiling as Mom is now in his arms. We will miss you Mom. Jim, Tina, Jerry and Joe.

Paul J. Streit, 65, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska.

Paul was born on February 19, 1959, in Lexington, Nebraska to Melvin J. and Marilyn (Prasch) Streit. He grew up on the farm north of Lexington and attended school in Lexington. Paul was a 1977 graduate of St. Ann’s High School.

The farm was his life. Paul was a quiet and simple man but loved working on the farm.

He enjoyed watching basketball and going with his buddies to the University of Nebraska-Kearney games.&nbsp;

Paul was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where he ushered for many years.

Survivors include his brothers, David (Scott Button) Streit of Rehoboth, Delaware, John (James Wilkin) Streit of Longmont, Colorado and Steve (Karallyn) Streit of Ashville, North Carolina; nephews, Cody (Savannah) Streit of Papillion and Levi (Megan) Streit of Kearney; niece, Chelsea Streit of Cairo; as well as extended family and friends.

Yuniesky Diaz Gomez, 38, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the Lexington Regional Health Center.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 1-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Following the visitation, cremation took place and burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.

Lavonne Rae Baker, formerly of Callaway, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Citizen's Medical Center in Colby, Kansas at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 14 days.&nbsp;

She was born on April 17, 1937, in Callaway, Nebraska to Billie Dale and Vera M (Lange) Strong. Lavonne attended school in Callaway, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1954. On October 17, 1955 she married Roland (Ronnie) Baker. They lived in Grand Island &amp; Gothenburg, Nebraska until they moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1965. &nbsp;They enjoyed dancing and Colorado Buffalo Football for many years. &nbsp;In 2020, she moved to Kansas where her youngest daughter lives. Lavonne always had a smile and was spunky and friendly to everyone she met. Lavonne is deeply missed but no longer in pain. &nbsp;We love you Mom, Grandma (Granny) until we meet again.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, twin sister, Lynnette and sister, Lois J Smith as well as her sons, Dale R Baker and Kenneth L Baker.&nbsp;

Graveside Services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway, Nebraska on July 6, 2024, at 11:00 am.&nbsp;

Lavonne Ray Baker (1937-2024)

Lynn Eugene Meyer passed away on June 4, 2024, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska, at the age of 84. Lynn was born on May 1st, 1940, at home on the ranch to parents Clifton Meyer and Fern Grunden Meyer in Maxwell, Nebraska. He grew up in the village of Maxwell, working on the ranch. During high school, Lynn met the love of his life at a dance in Sutherland, Nebraska. After graduating from the Maxwell High School in 1958, he attended the Barnes School of Commerce in Denver, Co, but a love for both a girl and a way of life brought him back to Maxwell.

Linda Samuelson and Lynn were married August 13th, 1961, the day after Linda turned 19. Lynn returned to the life that he loved on the family ranch riding and working horses. Together on the ranch, the family raised feeder calves and started raising registered Belgian draft horses in 1961. With two mares and one stud, a passion was started that would last a lifetime.

Lynn and Linda had three children: D’Nae, Casey, and Shana. Lynn was devoted to his family, friends, and way of life. His big personality and strong voice made him known to many, but most notably appreciated by all. He was a lifelong steward of the land, animals, and of men. He encouraged all of the kids he claimed as his own to be hardworking and strong-willed. He loved driving and showing his horses, working on the ranch, playing cards, and reminiscing about old times while team penning, calf roping, or coon hunting.

Lynn traveled the United States showing horses, judging various fairs, stock shows, and being ring steward and announcer at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. He was always on the go either to a farm or horse sale or running errands in North Platte. Throughout his life, Lynn served on the Maxwell Rural Fire Board for over 40 years, was a founding member of the Nebraska Draft Horse Association and continued his membership for over 55 years, and was a member and served a term as president of the Lincoln County Cattlemens Association. Among his many accomplishments in life, Lynn was awarded the Dale Studley Award for his dedicated service to the NebraskaLand Days Rodeo.

&nbsp;Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Fern; his sister, Joyce Sommer; his brother, Larry Meyer; and his grandson, Jacob Daniel Meyer. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Casey (Lori) Meyer; his daughters, D’Nae Meyer and Shana (Wade) Simpson; his grandchildren, Kylee (Seth) Taylor, Sarah (Christopher) Borden, Tallyn (Nolan) Hammond, Jett Simpson, and Jack Meyer; and his great-grandchildren Creed Borden and Caius Borden; among many other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maxwell First Baptist Church or the Maxwell Public School Foundation. Cremation was chosen, and a service will be held at the Maxwell Baptist Church on Friday, June 7th, at 2:00 PM. Lynn E. Meyer (1940-2024)

John Scott Gibson, age 79, Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on May 31, 2024, at the Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

John was born on March 1, 1945, to John and Dorothy (Kelley) Gibson in Scottsbluff, NE. John attended school in McCook, NE.&nbsp;

On June 17, 1963, John joined the Marine Corps and proudly served our country until 1966, serving two terms in Vietnam.&nbsp;

On August 23, 1965, John married Collen L. Fisher.&nbsp; To this union their daughter, Shelley, was born.

John married Judy Ann Gebauer on August 9, 1974, together they raised their two sons Rick and Curtis in Fort Morgan, CO, where John resided until Judy’s death in 2021.&nbsp;

John entered the oil field business shortly after returning from Vietnam working his way up from entry level field work to ownership of oil field related businesses, and eventually participating in oil wells and mineral ownership.

John enjoyed traveling to various places but even more so when he was able to take family and friends alongside. Mexico will forever have a special place in the hearts of John’s family and friends.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, racing cars, collecting and hunting arrowheads, and collecting guns and coins.&nbsp;

John will always be remembered for his generosity. He had a very big heart and was always willing to help those in need. From serving in the military, donating to multiple charities, to helping his friends and family.&nbsp;

John was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; and his wife, Judy.

Survivors include his children, Shelly (Terry) Hoffmaster of McCook, NE, Rick (Therese) Gibson of Brush, CO, and Curtis Gibson of Mineral Wells, TX; brother, Jerry (Pam) Gibson of Manteca, CA; grandchildren, Candice Martin, Michell (Brandon) Hughes, Amber (Nate) Priddy, Katie Hoffmaster (Matt), Kelsey Plank, and Tyler Gibson; great-grandchildren, Payton, Asher, Jolie, Harlow, Cannon, Emersyn, Hayden, Malina, Gianna, Audrianna, and Grajeda; and lots of extended family and lifelong friends.&nbsp;

John S. Gibson (1945-2024)

Margaret “Marge” Lynn (Lehl) Thomas was born on September 26, 1944 in Lincoln to John and Emma Lehl. She attended Southeast High School, graduating in 1962. Then she attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. After graduating in 1966, she married Sam Thomas in Lincoln. They were married for 57 years. She later earned advanced degrees from Chadron College and University of Nebraska at Kearney. She and Sam had three sons: Brian, Kevin and Eric.

Marge spent 23 years teaching. She led a gifted education program for the North Platte Public Schools. She also taught gifted classes as well as High School English. Later she taught disadvantaged students at the Learning Center in North Platte. She loved every minute of teaching and every student she ever had in class.&nbsp;

Her health forced her to retire in 2007. She spent many years volunteering after that. She was a member of the North Platte Chamber Hostesses and member for many years of the Foster Care Review Board. She was also a past president and chaplain of her PEO Chapter AK, and a member of the North Platte Playhouse Guild.

She loved spending time with her four grandchildren: Eli, Camden, Vincent and Kennedy. She also loved the Nebraska Huskers and attended every home game for many years. When she had spare time, she played Bridge. She and Sam were in a couples duplicate Bridge group for over 40 years with most of the same members: Bob &amp; Julie, Ron &amp; Lois, Betty &amp; Gene, and Gil &amp; Lynn (and later Jackie).

She is survived by her devoted husband Sam, sons Brian (Tricia) of Ohio, Kevin (Lori) of Lincoln, Eric of Callaway, grandchildren Eli, Camden, Vincent and Kennedy, and brother-in-law Pat (Penny) Thomas of Lincoln.
